st. louis days 4 & 8: fashion through the decades, an ldpdl fashion (speculative) retrospective pt 3
1990s-early 2000s - louis would love the minimalist calvin klein era as well as the raf simons 2000 collection which is lot of nerdy looking sweaters. i think he'd really get in on the pared down look of a simple top tucked into the waist of a pair of light washed jeans. for a night out, he'd throw on the classic leather jacket and maybe a cute little hat. it was also was the era of grunge/intentional disarray, which pairs nicely with louis's depressive episodes where he just wears the same ratty sweater every day and layers clothing without much thought to texture or pattern. also like i know he said he doesn't kill people anymore after the year 2000 but armand would totally be into the raf simon's virginia creeper collection cause its perfect for a night of hunting.

There were some things that she just wasn’t going to fully understand because she wasn’t a vampire. It was too difficult to really explain how it had felt for Daniel to connect with Louis the way they had, how it felt to touch another’s mind body and soul, how it was to experience intimacy in a way that only two vampires could. It had been so intense and everything had changed in that moment.
It was hard to explain the way it felt to be a vampire, how certain parts of being mortal and certain parts of being a vampire just didn’t match up. There was as Rashid once said ‘a biological imperative’ inside them that conflicted with human morality. And morality was not such a simple thing, rules agreed upon, expectations, where one saw evil another beauty… Daniel knew he would have committed atrocities too if it wasn’t for Mina. She kept him from fucking up too badly, kept him on the right track like a moral compass, kept him from murdering people and murdering Rashid which he would most definitely regret forever.
It wasn’t so easy though. What would happen if Mina didn’t let him feed on her when he was out of control? What would happen if he didn’t have her but instead had someone like Lestat who would encourage him to murder people? Daniel and Louis understood each other on so many levels. They both had a similar darkness inside them. He was lucky to have Mina in his life instead of Louis having Lestat and Armand.
“I’ve finished the book,” he told her. “It’s going to be published. Do you know the Talamasca freaks had input for me? They told me to leave out certain things and include other things. Fucking assholes.”
That didn’t fully answer her question though. “I want to go back to hunting. It is who I am. I’m ready. I might need a break again one day, but for now I’m ready to get back to it. I’m excited for it. Even with the creepers watching us.”
“So, you want to interview vampires, so you?”

What the fuck is up with Armand Treshi: a theory
Armand Treshi is confirmed to be working with Ira Wendagoth (Nightmare King) and Vali Dertrana on some sort of program to create more werewolves. Ira is also known to animate furniture and to work with glowing blue crystals; said crystals are not confirmed to be brumestone but are suspected to be. The subjects of the werewolf program are implied to be the Paragon's Call, and we know for a fact Ratanish is deeply involved to the point that he openly threatened Ashton for wearing the mask.
Armand is also tied to at least one person who has some sort of ability to command shade creepers (Emoth Kade, who is employed by his family's gold guild - yes, the same gold guild that has a bounty on Cyrus's head, and yes, Cyrus is actively working with Emoth Kade). Dugger's connections to Treshi are unconfirmed, but he was previously a carpenter; it's quite possible he had guild ties as well. Emoth and Dugger also both have ties to the Hubatt Corsairs.
House Treshi's stonemasonry guild was also tied to the mimic wall outside the Dreamscape Theater.
People have been pushing for the Paragon's Call to step in and have been urging the Chandei Quorum to authorize it to deal with the Hubatt Corsairs and general lawlessness.
Eshteross suspects Armand Treshi of being a member of the Quorum. My theory is that one of the two following scenarios is true:
Armand is not a member of the Quorum, but rather, another member of his house is. Armand is setting up his relative to take the fall for a conspiracy against Jrusar (hence the clear ties to House Treshi) so that he can "unmask" that relative and then sweep in with his strong ties to the Paragon's Call and take their place on the Quorum (which, depending on how the Quorum actually functions, is potentially a risky move).
Alternately, Armand is on the Quorum and is planning what is effectively a military coup of the Quorum, and hoping no one is able to pin the problems on House Treshi specifically.
The shade creeper abilities also come from something Ira was able to "facilitate", much as he did the lycanthropy.
Emoth's theft at the party could be for Armand to help gather intel or just resources (it's not clear what was being stolen, but it was being stolen from drawers, which makes me think of documents); it could also just be a side hustle for her.
Either way Cyrus is DEEPLY fucked; he's going to be the fall guy for the Treshi gold guild twice over.
The Hubatt Corsairs connection is interesting. My hunch is that either Armand approached Dugger (especially if Dugger had ties to a guild of his) and then used that or other, not yet revealed ocnnections, to plant Lady Emoth, as a member of a lesser house, with the Corsairs, presenting her to the Corsairs as a woman on the inside. I think the Corsairs themselves are, like Cyrus, getting played.
I'm not sure what Armand's ring does, and frankly that could be anything - a communication device, something that permits him to command something, or even just a red herring. I think it will be really interesting to see what the party finds with the tracking ring, though, as well as what they determine the original ring can do.
Finally: I'm not sure the House Lumas murders are related; some of that is just a pure narrative hunch (ties up everything far too neatly, in my mind) and the Zephrah connection, plus the fact that the twins are described as non-political and also have ties to Imogen's backstory makes me think this is a separate thread.

this Gretchen-Lestat accidental child AU I found on an old late 90s/early 00s VC fan fiction archive with no search system had such an interesting premise until...
the rushed pacing never unfucked itself,  there was little interaction scenes or building scenes, very little actual background to the OC himself (which sucked because SO MUCH PROMISE and how are you supposed to respond to an OC without building blocks?), and there was no questioning Gretchen’s honesty about his father because Gretchen was “driven mad” after Lestat left and, later, after the OC had miraculously jumped on a plane to the US with the money Lestat had buried under a tree within a couple of paragraphs, immediately jumped to the conclusion upon seeing someone read “The Vampire Lestat” at a cafe that the Lestat mentioned had to be his father (?).
And then Armand just appeared at Louis’ mousuleum where OC was being a creeper to ask, “Do you believe it now?”. Which is a) frankly bizarre because why the TITS would Armand care about any of Lestat’s offspring considering neither like each other very much unless Armand wanted to fuck shit up, and b) why is Armand in New Orleans to begin with? That’s not what he’s about, son, New Orleans isn’t his hunting grounds.
Gosh darn, why am I salty about an almost likely sixteen year old fanfiction? What is this? What does it matter, they did their best.
