I’m not someone that particularly cares about a ship being canon or not, in fact I would rather the media I consume have no romance at all (giving my blog confusing yes I know)
But there is something about the canon ties between Shanks and Mihawk that drives me feral with need to see what their whole deal is.
Because like there are so many little inconsequential details that when taking separately seem pathetic and weak. But then put together it feels like it paints the picture of a larger undeniable connection and understanding between two wildly different men.
The fact that their main color is both red (Mihawk’s is a more wine dark red than Shanks’ bright red and a little more “subtle” given that Shanks is literally called red hair) but even then their main symbols, their identifying features, are red! Mihawk’s eyes and Shanks hair (yes while I love the gold and think that’s better I cannot ignore the fact that Oda consistently colors in Mihawk’s eyes red even though the gold is infinitely more popular)
They have the same birthday, are practically the same height, both with the promises to our two main protagonists to meet them at the top with a parting “gift”, both serve as a mentor to the protagonist (mihawk literally thought zoro how to kill him 😭), both with the bird(ish) iconography.
The fact that Mihawk, Mihawk! A man whose introduction was that he didn’t care much about anything and caused destruction on a whim, cares enough about what Shanks thinks to mentally apologize before trying to kill luffy (what the fuck).
The fact that whitebeard felt the need to reference his duel with Mihawk in his conversation with Shanks, despite not really being very relevant to the conversation and the fact that this is the first we’ve seen shanks in years and it is brought up in the same context as his relationship with Buggy (an already established relationship) reveals his relationship to Roger seems to point to the fact that this duel between Mihawk and Shanks is an important relationship to shanks. It couldn’t just be to show strength because he was about to clash with whitebeard the strongest man. It’s also hard to notice that those two relationships didn’t end particularly well for shanks.
Also the fact that it was Mihawk out of every character , Mihawk that brought luffy’s bounty to Shanks. Something he obviously knew would mean a lot to him. I used to think the scene was just there to show us how big a deal Shanks actually is like look at that fun childish alcoholic gang inspired our main hero? He’s actually a super big deal and he used to spar with the strongest character by far we had seen at that point (it wasn’t even close) and they fought on equal footing. It added a new layer of mystery to Shanks.
But it’s also the fact that even now with Mihawk’s bounty Shanks was mentioned and he’s the only one who this was mentioned for. Crocodile is just for his df and intelligence and they don’t mention that he literally tried and almost succeeded in subjugating a country and he was beat by luffy “or smoker given how many marines actually know the truth” even buggy who was literally Shanks’ sworn brother under the pirate king doesn’t get a mention like that. But Shanks and this duel is so integral to Mihawk’s character that it’s mentioned along with the only other long lasting fact we know about him and that is that he is the World’s Strongest Swordsman. Isn’t that fucking insane.
And like I feel insane scrapping all these details together as proof of something because they are all (besides the duel) the barest bones of a connection but god it is actually driving me insane.
And I’m not saying Mishanks is going to become canon or that it should or that I even particularly want it too. What I do want is to see how deeply these two are connected. What are these red strings of fate tying them to each other. Why can’t apparently ten years of little contact sever it? I swear to god if it’s actually nothing much I will lose my fucking mind. If nothing ever comes of all of this I will actually go insane. How can some people look at this and not see foreshadowing!?!?!!
#me being dragged a way in a straight jacket#I’m not insane you’re insane!#Is this what you want Oda?!? Is this what you desired?!?#I’m obsessed with the slutty insanely powerful middle aged swordsmen#is this what you want from me?!?!#no but seriously for how much they talk about the duel to the fact that it’s one of the o my things we know for certain about Mihawk#we definetly need a rematch#the way whitebeard talk about it makes it seem like it was less a bunch of friendly little duels#and more one big duel that shook the world#or maybe a mix of both#it’s so prevalent that it’s literally part of Mihawk’s little after episode bio thing#and emphasis on not resolved#I don’t know what to tell you Oda but those middle aged men need to fight#I don’t make the rules#throwing thoughts to the void#one piece#dracule mihawk#hawkeye mihawk#op#mishanks#akagami no shanks#red hair shanks#can you tell I’m having trouble sleeping?#akataka#mihawk x shanks#one piece theory#one piece thoughts#shipping#Oda not mention that Shanks and Mihawk knew each other/used to fight#challenge impossible

Honestly I wonder if anyone’s ever read Chilchuck’s “I cheated on her” admission as an implicit reference to prioritizing alcohol over his marriage and feeling guilty abt it.
Ohh… "I cheated on her" as a half-truth because something ended up taking priority over their marriage, because emotionally he was elsewhere… "I cheated on her" because after having all the time in the world to think about it now that he’s alone, he realizes that that might have been how she felt, and that’s how it felt like to him too.
Love that. I def think he’s ironically someone who deflects guilt a lot, in a similar way that he compulsively goes "You’re wrong! I don’t care about you guys at all! I’m an asshole!" he flees emotions by making the problem something else that’s fake, a burden easier to bear, he’s so used to being seen for what he’s not after all. I went into it a bit in one of my fics and in a couple meta posts, but when it comes to his wife he was very much like an ostrich with his head in the sand, seeing her fall into a bad mood on the outing before she left him but dismissing it as something "sudden" that’s not worth thinking deeper about. Overdrinking is a problem for future Chil. I think he did a lot of "You want me to drink less and you’re afraid for my health? Get over it lol" and "I should be less strict with the girls and raise my voice less? My father was a strict drunk and look at me, I turned out functional and great! The girls are literally fine and love me" and "Oh? My drinking is affecting our family? No it’s not smh smh get off my back"< Drunk a significant portion of the time he spends at home since he’s off-work and somewhere he can relax. Type of guy to always dismiss any issues that might exists because he prefers ignoring them as if they’ll go away. All his problem solving energy is spent during work and the issue is with his family he already likes things as they are, they’re his comfort zone and change is scary, he doesn’t want the change, even if it’d be better. He doesn’t want to change, his unhealthy habits are guilty pleasures he wishes people didn’t try to make him feel guilty for
BUT POINT IS he struggles with guilt and like. Letting it be a feeling that he gets sometimes, so it’s all bottled up and festers and gets twisted into frustration or such like how his worry usually does. I like this take, wether it’s something he’s already thought a lot about or it’s something he’s repressed that came suddenly pouring out of him like blood out of a wound, now that he’s putting it into words with someone for maybe the first time.
It’s interesting how he didn’t refuse going up to the bicorn, I’m sure part of him wanted to see if it would like him, like the virtue test it is. Would a monster that loves despicable men be magnetized to him? Would it confirm his fears?
#Dungeon meshi#chilchuck tims#meta#ask#Spoilers#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#Bicorn episode early season 2 guys let’s GOOOOOOO#I do think he feels sleazy. Like even as he enjoys pretty women as eyecandy he feels pangs of guilt and sadness and longing for his ex wife#The “SHUT UP DON’T bring her up now!!” during succubus is smth I interpret in that way.#Either to not ruin the moment or bc of raging guilt that his succubus isn’t her gdbd. But also can u blame a guy the mere memory#of her brings up a lot of bitterness and emotional turmoil and aughh he feels like he’s failed his life and he’s a fuck up and aughh#fumi rambles#He’s someone who just wants to feel good dammit. He’s so stressed he just wants to relax. He just wants to feel like his family isn’t flawe#He doesn’t have the energy to put into fixing it. He doesn’t know if he could handle it. And ofc all of this is happening on a subconscious#level. Bc emotional repression is his middle name#He needs to work to provide for his family but for their relationships and emotional needs he needs to work less.#There’s no winning. one thing about me is when i was 12 or 13 i DID in fact go on itunes to buy dr who music and what i legitimately did was pick out several individual tracks SPECIFICALLY because they were leitmotifs. so i have literally just always been this way
#like literally went through and basically picked out one for each companion and then a couple others#including this is gallifrey and together or not at all lmfao#the former of which is probably the most useful to have in my arsenal of Leitmotifs I Know Like The Back Of My Hand because it has a LOT of#different parts that could be pulled in individually as a reference which can make it way less obvious#(which they did when we first get the master & 10 together but ofc i caught it right away last time i watched that episode because of how#well i know the whole entire track)#there were a couple other things i bought that werent leitmotifs i just liked them#and i question past me's choice to NOT buy the bad wolf theme (????? whats wrong with you) but yeah i absolutely did do this#i was SUCH a Normal Middle Schooler lmaooooooo#ari opinion hour#this is actually so fuckin funny

What's that deketed scene???? 👀
Klaus at the AA meeting.
It just kinda speaks to me? The years of trying to understand himself, his power, his potential, the years of losses, the years of drugs and alcohol and addiction, and old traumas and new traumas. S1 he wanted to be taken seriously by others, and now he's like "fuck it, I'm taking myself seriously." He laying everything out on the table. He is choosing to get the help, he doesn't need to be here, he wasn't forced here, he wants to be here. He is choosing to
But it was the right call to cut it, if I'm being serious.
Beyond it being cut for pacing/time, I do not think it works with the ending given. The intended effect of the ending is already lost as is, but adding this scene back would've made it more confusing. I'm inclined to believe that it wasn't written for the ending, but idk.
If I'm being really honest, this doesn't even work with this season. This moment thematically should be placed at the end of season 2 or so.
The structure of the arc S1 was Klaus hitting his low point with a small peak at the end, s2 has more peaks but the lower lows, with s3 being where he began to rise. The natural ending of this arc should have been another low point or two before Klaus hitting his high point, with us seeing his fully realized potential. But. Nah. Oh well.
So, not this exact scene or this exact season arc, but this sort of moment would have hit harder and better in season 2.
Also, Klaus has known powerlessness for a while now. Like, I get what they were trying to do. It's supposed to be him feeling it/understanding it fully. And yes, powerlessness is a theme of his arc. But uhh yeah, he has known powerlessness for a while now. Again, this is part of why this would've fit better if done a bit earlier in the show.
I know I said this was the best written scene of season 4, but the bar isn't exactly very high. It is a scene that is written well, I enjoy what it's trying to do. It has nice moments, and above all, it's character focused. God, remember when that was the norm in this show? Characters' actions affected the plot rather than the other way around.
#also AA person Stephanie here had more personality in 3 minutes than Jennifer did in 5 episode huh what who said that okay byeeee#maybe it's because there's less stakes with this character needing to be likable or something? idk I love her#also it feels funny to say this belongs in s2 when an unrealized s2 re-write I have going would have him being buried alive teehee#because me and dolly (who came up with it) have wanted that for yearsssss#and then it happened and it was just okay and a middling adaptation of my favorite part of volume 3#spoilers for a fic that doesnt exist i guess#klaus hargeeves#apocalypse-ask

I (probably) have hyposmia (extremely weak/flakey sense of smell) and I'm always happy when Jackson finds a way to bring up the fact that Gregor has anosmia (no sense of smell)
Ep 193, Gregor comments that he's self-conscious about possibly smelling bad, because he can't check himself. He turns down a flower hes been told has a bad smell, and asks Ashe to check that he smells okay
I had to pause the video because that's something I worry about every day!! Down to "avoiding things I've been told smell bad because I won't be able to tell if the smell gets on me," which is a massive concern of mine! Asking friends/family to double check you smell okay!! I do that!!!!!
I don't know if Jackson himself has a smelling disorder, did some research, or just thought about how not having a sense of smell would impact Gregor. Either way, I love how it's been handled so far. It feels really cool :]
#wolfy speaks#thrilling intent#i dont really know any other characters with smelling disorders#and i was fully ready for it to just be a goof#but like. thats not something I think most people would consider really spur of the moment#gregor cant smell -> he cant smell check himself -> he would probably be worried about his smell -> he would avoid bad smelling things#that all seems like a lot to piece together about your character in the middle of rp#idk maybe gregor himself Spoke to jackson in that moment. whos to say#in MY eyes it makes me think oh shit Jackson actually. thought about what not having a sense of smell would entail#this isnt just a goof this is An Aspect Of Gregor's Character#anyways. i really really like this bit of the episode. its less than 5 seconds of dialogue but im going same hat rn#2k24 rewatch#ep 193

Because I’ve decided to be somewhat annoyingly optimistic about Tech coming back eventually, I kind of wanted to explain the hypothetical framework through which I’ve been looking at the all of this wiiiiiiiiiith…

…a crappy diagram. (I’m sorry about my handwriting. I usually write in cursive, so it’s usually smaller and even worse).
Now, this is simplified, there are plenty more arcs, plots, and subplots than this, but I sort of picked out the main three that we seem to be dealing with from the beginning of The Clone Wars season seven onwards.
First we’ve got Rex’s arc, where after an endless string of losses and disappointments from previous seasons, he begins putting his foot down and trying to take something back and help his fellow clones, first within the GAR when he insists on rescuing Echo, and then later on in The Bad Batch as we see him gradually form a small band of clones and other allies (people like the Martez sisters and Riyo Chuchi) with the end goal of freeing as many clones as he can. This seems to be an ongoing plot, given that Rex’s work as well as the setup with the senate continues into season three of TBB but receives neither climax nor resolution as we narrow the focus towards Omega.
And, of course, alongside the Rex arc is what I’m calling the clone agency arc, introduced (or perhaps re-introduced) via Echo and his captivity by the Techno Union in the beginning of season seven of TCW, continuing through the end of TCW and into TBB with Order 66, Crosshair’s time under the chip and with the empire (his story far has given us a great look into the life of clones subject to order 66 and imperial service), the clone retirement bill, and the CXs. It, too, reaches neither climax nor conclusion and seems to be ongoing. Furthermore, Rex’s arc seems to be dependent on the clone agency arc (though you could argue it the other way), and many of the loose threads from the end of TBB tie into it as well.
Next, at the beginning of “Aftermath,” we’ve got the clone force 99 family arc as well as the individual bad batcher arcs, none of which reach a resolution. (The bad batch characters are all introduced in the bad batch arc of season seven, but I’d argue that with a few possible exceptions, they don’t really begin their arcs until the start of TBB. They’re not the focus in season seven and are there largely to facilitate Rex’s arc, so what we get for them is a lot of set up and establishing baselines).
I’ve argued before that each of the batcher’s character development goes only so far as it needs to go in order to facilitate Omega’s arc ending by the final episode; after that, they don’t conclude, they slow down, get put on the backburner, and come with period reminders of what those arcs were doing. Hunter gets very close to resolution in his development, since he’s the most tied at the hip to Omega’s arc and most of his character arc has to do with her, but the others are all completely open-ended. The family arc likewise remains open-ended—not necessarily because Tech’s not there and they remain separated, but because the separation and brokenness of the family is never dealt with and left wanting a conclusion despite the fact there was ample opportunity to reach it if necessary.
And last, we’ve got Omega’s childhood arc and the Hunter/Omega relationship arc. These, closely tied together, are the only major arcs that conclude by the end of TBB. And here’s the interesting thing; they’re not actually the first arcs introduced in the show.
Omega is the POV character, but she’s not actually introduced until the second act, I would argue she doesn’t become the POV character until the hyperspace scene at the end of “Aftermath,” and her arc proper doesn’t really begin until “Cut and Run” when we introduce the idea of Omega choosing where she wants to be and the, “You all have a purpose—so what’s hers?” “It doesn’t matter, she’s just a kid,” exchange. Other arcs including her start earlierI would argue that Crosshair’s arc with her starts in the brig scene, for example—but her arc doesn’t quite kick off until a little later.
Basically, the way I’m looking at this is as a series of nested arcs. A storytelling nesting doll, basically, where the major arc that was introduced the latest and has the smallest scale is also the only one to reach a resolution by the end of TBB show while the others imply a larger, ongoing story.
It’s not that the two larger major arcs stop when the Omega arc is introduced, either. They keep being told alongside, largely through Omega’s point of view with occasional zoom-outs to a wider frame, and limited to what we need to see at present either for future set up or before zooming back in and, in the case of much of the third season of TBB (last four episodes in particular) focusing in on Omega’s arc and that resolution before, hypothetically, broadening to a larger focus again. It’s also not that Omega can’t show up now that her arc is concluded, either. She can! In fact, she should, for multiple reasons. She just wouldn’t be the focus anymore and would probably show up in a more limited capacity.
And it’s not that these nested arcs are even separate. They might start and conclude at different points, but they are told alongside each other because they’re tied together. They weave in and out of each other and push each other along. They’re relevant to one another and, I think, pieces of a larger clone story that’s not quite over.
Because here’s the thing: There’s a lot of stuff in both TCW season seven and TBB that we don’t really need unless it was there for setup. The only part of season seven that was entirely necessary for closing out the clone war and that part of Ahsoka’s story was the Siege of Mandalore arc with maybe, *maybe* one additional episode to explain what she’s been doing. I love the bad batch arc, but we didn’t need it…unless the purpose was to set up arcs for the batch and also tie the batch’s and Echo’s stories to Rex’s and the clone agency arc. We don’t need the Martez sisters episodes…unless we need to introduce the Martez sisters, who also meet the batch and are also working with Rex once we get to TBB (and are presumably still working with him from time to time, since we haven’t heard otherwise). Likewise, the list of things in TBB that aren’t strictly necessary from a storytelling perspective if all we were doing the whole time was telling Omega’s story is extensive…unless the larger story with those larger nested arcs isn’t done.
#clones#anyway here’s some thoughts#I think what we might be looking at is a sort of loose clone trilogy#and that TBB and whatever might be next#were loosely sketched out in broad strokes alongside the development of season seven#not that it was conceived of as a loose trilogy exactly maybe a Duology#and then developed into one later on#with TBB as the dark moody middle chapter that barely has a beginning#and doesn’t really have an ending#and therefore doesn’t stand on its own#except for Omega’s story which is the only thing keeping it from being a total dirge#seriously imagine TBB without Omega#I mean okay first of all it’s a lot less interesting because you remove a major point of conflict#second of all oh good lord is it depressing#anyway I’m sorry I’m rambling#also sorry the post is rambly too#all of this has just been percolating in my head for six months#and I have a hard time explaining it because I know it’s a different framework than the fandom typically uses#also it’s totally hypothetical!#I’m just theorizing based on what I get when I break things down#also to be totally clear I am not expecting Tech clarification at celebration either#do I want it yes do I think Tech is alive YEAH#BUT I’m also aware that Lucasfilm loooooves its secrets#and I can see the merits of waiting until he shows up in an episode to address it#even though in this specific case I think the best thing to do#would have been to just tell everyone he was alive but not coming back as of the end of season three *two years ago*#make everyone’s lives easier cast and crew included#though I understand why no studio on earth old let them do that#anyway here’s some structural analysis where I badly explain my thought process

is there any magical girl anime still out there that doesn't have any fanservice? Shows like Precure, Cardcaptor Sakura or Madoka?
And if there isn't, are there at least any shows where the fanservice isn't with elementary school girls?
#watching prisma illya for the first time because im getting back into fate in general and#??????????????????????#i watch and love symphogear! same for nanoha! i have a not insignificant tolerance of fanservice#but there is a limit to how much of it i can take especially in pg13 and prisma illya keeps breaking past it! at least once per episode!#which is a shame because i enjoy the story and music and animation!! the more 'mundane' setting!! but then EVERYTHING ELSE is fanservice#character wakes up: fantasizes over kissing brother#character gets up after getting hit in a battle: gotta make sure the butt is detailed and in frame#downtime scene: detailed animation of characters 'innocently' sharing ice cream with the 'appropiate' sound and expression#attempt at humor: hey guys. innuendos am i right. elementary school kids talk like this.#(other attempt at humor is the rin luvia rivalry which i am indifferent to even in main fate setting)#more of illya channeling archer and curbstomping saber alter and less of [vague gesture at s2e2] chloe wtf also whoever wrote that scene wt#tbf s2e2 chloe has been the worst offender by far up to this point which in the middle of all of the rest is kind of impressive in a bad wa#sorry about the vent i just needed to get that out of my system#also the question in the post is meant seriously. if anyone knows any i am absolutely open to recommendations.#when a jo speaks
