Tom Bombadil is the Master. No one has ever caught old Tom walking in the forest, wading in the water, leaping on the hill-tops under light and shadow. He has no fear. Tom Bombadil is master.

Old Tom Bombadil | Bear McCreary, Composer
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together! Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather, Light on the budding leaf, dew on the feather, Wind on the open hill, bells on the heather. Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than clear water. Reed by the living pool, fair River-Daughter. Spring time and summer time, and spring again after. Wind on the waterfall, and the leaf's laughter. Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow; Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. Reeds by the shady pool, lilies on the water. Old Tom Bombadil and the River-Daughter! Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than clear water. Reed by the living pool, fair River-Daughter. Spring time and summer time, and spring again after. Wind on the waterfall, and the leaf's laughter. Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than clear water. Reed by the living pool, fair River-Daughter. Spring time and summer time, and spring again after. Wind on the waterfall, and the leaf's laughter. Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow...

14th November 2023 Writings

Excerpt from: Changes in the Archipelago
“Not yet?” Snotlout asked.
“We haven’t had a closer look yet,” Astrid responded.
“Then why are we wasting time?” Snotlout asked.
“We’re not,” Hiccup said. “I wanted to round up everyone.”
“Right…”
Soon all of them were flying out to the ship.
“If is from Miklagard, we can totally take it,” Snotlout declared.
“No, we can’t,” Fishlegs objected.
“It would be foolhardy.”

Excerpt from: Lady Me’s Quandry
“Not Britain, nor the 20th or 21st Centuries,” she said to the TARDIS as she set a random course.
The TARDIS gave a sound as if she agreed with her. She then set the ship in motion.
It didn’t take long for them to arrive somewhere. “Let’s see,” Lady Me murmured as she switched on the Scanner.
Indeed, it wasn’t Britain, nor the 20th or 21st Centuries. “Faroe Islands, 19th Century,” she mused. It wasn’t very far off at all. She suspected that if she tried again, it would still be somewhere in Western Europe in the later part of the Second Millennium. Therefore she emerged from the ship into the dimly lit streets of Torshavn. Nothing looked to be out of the ordinary. ‘But then at this time I was already hiding out on the Street.’
Something soon happened.

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn
“Right…” Quinn considered. She also considered just quitting the Fashion Club and telling Sandi to leave. What Daria had said in Freemont about them solving crime together flashed through her mind. ‘Not yet, give her a chance.’ She breathed deeply, and pulled down the turtleneck, showing her, along with Stacy and Tiffany, the zit.
“Oh, I see,” Sandi said.
“So, I had to hide it,” Quinn said.
“Of course,” Sandi said.
“Quinn, I'm so happy you're still one of us,” Stacy said.
“Gosh, Stacy, what did you think?” Quinn asked.
“Really,” Tiffany added.
“Quinn's right, Stacy. Just because she was acting completely weird and not confiding in her dearest, most loyal friends is no reason to decide she'd finally given up her sad charade and revealed herself as a two-faced, little…” Sandi trailed off as Quinn gave an intense glare.
‘How long?’ Quinn wondered, again.
“Meeting ended,” Sandi said.
“6:57. The shortest yet,” Stacy responded.
Unknown to Quinn and the others, Daria had overheard Stacy saying ‘I'm so happy you're still one of us,’ as she had walked by. Therefore she called Jane about her suspicion.
“Come on, not even aliens would give the planet to the Fashion Club. You're getting paranoid,” Jane responded.
“I'm not talking about aliens. But there's something out there. Something stupid.”
“You get rattled too easily,” Jane responded, then changed her tone. “By the way, can you come over here right now? I'm really scared.”
“I see. And to what do I owe this mood swing?” Daria asked.
“It's Trent's song. You gotta listen and tell me if it's getting more cheerful.”
“Now who's paranoid?”
“Come on, I'll order a pizza. And don’t tell your mother where you’re going, I don’t want her getting all motherly.”
“Right away.”

Excerpt from: In the House of Tom Bombadil
“We heard news of you, and heard that you were wandering. We guessed that you’d come ere long down to the water: all paths lead that way, down to Withywindle. Old grey Willow-man, he’s a mighty singer; and it’s hard for little folk to escape his cunning mazes. But Tom had an errand there, that he dared not hinder.” He then sang a song of his errand and of how he had met Goldberry long ago.
Tom had fallen silent, but Frodo couldn’t resist asking one more question. “Tell us, Master, about the Willow-man. What is he? I have never heard of him before.”
“No, don’t!” Merry and Pippin said together.
“That is right,” Tom said. “Now is the time for resting. Some things are ill to hear while the world is in shadow. Sleep until the morning light, rest on the pillow!”

Spotify LotR audiobook thoughts 2/?
The sheer absurdity of Tom Bombadil’s whole character never quite struck me until listening to it on audiobook.
*pitch meeting voice*
“So then they meet this guy named TOM BOMBADIL”
“Oh yeah? What’s his deal?”
“Oh he’s fricken NUTS sir! He sings nonsense and shows up just in time to keep Merry and Pippin from getting eaten by the evil sentient tree. Then he invites the Hobbits to his house and they find out that he’s an ageless being who isn’t affected by the Ring at ALL!”
“Oh wowwowwowwow. Wow. So do they ask him to join their quest? I mean, he must turn into a pretty important character if he can control the Ring.”
“Oh no, they leave him after two chapters and never talk to him again.”
“... What?”

“A shadow came out of dark places far away, and the bones were stirred in the mounds. Barrow-wights walked in the hollow places with a clink of rings on cold fingers, and gold chains in the wind. Stone rings grinned out of the ground like broken teeth in the moonlight.”

Ok, I ain't even started yet, but I can share a title:
"In the House of Tom Bombadil: Mr. Zuckerburg Comes for a Visit"
Hopefully it'll be the first of a series of comical short stories. We'll see. Keep an eye out but don't hold yer breath cause Bombadil ain't exactly a believer in deadlines 😄

In many respects I think THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is the most cohesive of the Peter Jackson movies. It cuts or rearranges a lot, but generally in ways that are at least defensible, and a couple of its changes are significant improvements. For instance, it streamlines the clumsy bit of business of Frodo putting on the Ring in the Prancing Pony, which in the book is awkwardly handled, and having Aragorn actually witness and bless Frodo's departure at the end sidesteps a lot of the indecision that follows in Book Three (where Aragorn spends many pages agonizing over whether to follow the orcs to save Merry and Pippin or to try to find Frodo, which is wearying because the reader already knows where Frodo and Sam have gone). The movie also picks up the pace to useful effect.
However, the script does introduce a couple of avoidable story flaws:
Having Bilbo visibly aged when Frodo sees him again introduces a plot hole: If age catches up with a Ring-bearer fairly quickly once they no longer possess the Ring, one would expect Gollum (who is over 500 years old) to have crumbled to dust long ago!
It really does not make clear that the Elves are concerned that the destruction of the One Ring will cause the Three to fail, leading to the end of Rivendell and Lothlórien. This might have been dispensable were it not for the fact that the movie version of Galadriel is much more antagonistic to Frodo than she is in the book for precisely that reason (she still refers to his arrival as "the footsteps of doom"). People who aren't familiar with the books are often confused by why Galadriel seems so mean, which even in the Extended Edition relies too much on familiarity with the novel. This wouldn't have needed much to make it clearer, but it needed something.
The fact that Merry and Pippin are Frodo's cousins gets lost (it's mentioned only in passing in the Prancing Pony scene, where it's easily missed), which often leaves new viewers wondering why these two idiots are tagging along. If it were up to me, I'd have Bilbo mention it in his party speech; I think for most viewers, simply stating more clearly, "These are Frodo's younger cousins," would do wonders to clarify their relationship. (Ironically, if the movie had retained the "conspiracy" subplot — where Merry and Pippin actually know about the Ring thanks to Sam and come up with a plan to help Frodo in a reasonably sensible way — this would be less of an issue, since it would be clear that they are his good friends. However, the first movie consistently presents them as obnoxious silly asses, so one might reasonably wonder why Frodo is putting up with them even before they're all running for their lives!)

"I Am No Weather Master!" - Tom Bombadil Commission - by Pedro Morán
Tom Bombadil commission for a private client. Although he is not my favorite character from The Lord of the Rings, I love the idea of the funny man in the woods who hides incredible powers and could be any powerful entity, from a hero of yore to a god in disguise. I really enjoyed painting him and the forest background.

"Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields...and eating the first of the strawberries with cream."
It was a desperate question. His mouth was so dry, and his tongue felt swollen, and the air itself tasted of ash, until he could hardly recall anything but this parched and blasted hell himself. But he took another shaky breath, and asked it anyway.
"Do you remember the taste of strawberries?"

been a rough health week. so much so that I didn't turn my computer on for 6 days. I did however become reacquainted with The Fellowship of the Ring (book). I read The Hobbit and the first two of the trilogy back when I was a flight attendant in 2019, but the last few of chapters in The Two Towers sucked and put me off of finishing the series as a whole. Can't even remember if I finished the last pages of the second book.
That's all to say I'm having a great time reading them now. Like genuinely excited to wake up so I can continue to read what happens next.
