i got this a while ago and debated answering, but i do like rambling and have time tonight. i will not go into specifics because i do not intentionally seek out omegaverse content; my experiences with it are from being in fandom and spec bio spaces where someone just starts talking about it, or every once in a while i read it by accident (i am not actually good about reading tags). i am aware that not everyone follows the same rules and i don't need anyone coming into my askbox to explain how their personal version doesn't do the following things i'm about to say. one reason i know more about omegaverse than i want to is the strange phenomenon of people thinking that a person can be "converted" if only they understood it more....! so: yes, i support any hypothetical fans on my blog writing and enjoying whatever version of omegaverse they want, but no, i do not want you explaining it to me.

anyway, i guess we should first talk about the biological definitions of sex and gender.

sex can be defined multiple ways by biologists depending on what they're trying to study. the one i use for animals & plants is the evolutionary definition, which is based on gametes-- basically, are you set up to make small gametes (male) or big gametes (female)? this is called anisogamy (two different sized gametes within a species) and it's shockingly universal in plants and animals, which is why it's my preferred definition. (although note that gametes size and morphology can vary a ton between species and even between individuals-- the only constant is that within a species, sperm are smaller than ova.) the resulting traits that go along with sex (physical traits, chromosomes, etc) are NOT universal, but i'll talk about some patterns.

note that there ARE isogamous organisms-- such as fungi or algae-- which do not have differently sized gametes. usually instead of sorting them by "sex," they're sorted by "mating type"

also important to know-- lots and lots of plants and animals make both types of gametes. the technical biological term for this is hermaphroditism, but if you're reading this for spec bio reasons i highly urge you NOT to use this term for humans/near-humans. that is because it's unfortunately also a pejorative/dehumanizing term for intersex people (and biologically inaccurate to them). i've seen people use "dualsex" but another scientific term would be "monoecious" (although i have never seen this used outside of plant scientists lmao). technically "bisexual" also works but you can imagine this could be confusing and someone who's never read an old scientific paper might yell at you

okay. so now we've defined sex. what is gender? i am by no means an expert in this, but most people will define it as some sort of social role. for some people it is very personal and definitions are individual. i am only including this paragraph because there was briefly a trend amongst biologists to define "animal gender" as social roles animals play when interacting with each other. i don't personally like this because it often ends up tying the concept of gender to genetics or underlying biological traits. i prefer the more historical term alternative reproductive tactics (ARTs), which refers to when there's multiple strategies/phenotypes/"genders" within a single sex of a species. for example, side-blotched lizards have three different male phenotypes which all exhibit different behaviors with different advantages/disadvantages in terms of procreation.

so, biologically, omegaverse is a mating system where both sexes (that's male/female) experience ARTs (that's the alpha/omega/beta), and mating occurs in a disassortative way. Disassortative mating means that individuals are more likely to mate with (and are perhaps are more likely to successfully produce offspring with) other individuals that are "different" from them in some way. for example, white throated sparrows have two morphs per sex. both "tan" males and females invest energy into parental care, and "white" males and females invest energy into acquiring multiple mates, which white females even using brood parasitism (leaving eggs in a nest that's not hers). tan males mate with white females, and tan females mate with white males (i know there's been studies where two of the same mate with each other and the outcome is less good, but i forget what it is just now lol).

one puzzling part of the omegaverse is that by the definitions i see most often (where humans are born male/female and then develop "secondary dynamics" later), alpha males/omega males shouldn't be able to have children. Sperm do not have enough physical "stuff" to make a baby, even if you ignore genetic imprinting and other mechanisms that prevent people's own gametes from fusing. I don't like mpreg on the grounds that i just don't like stories about pregnancy in general, but I get confused when people go in depth about the biological set ups of their AU and then just don't go into what sex even is? Like, if it were just magic or completely handwaved, sure, fine. But why delve into biology and then get basic things wrong? Like, does your world just have mating types? Are some people dualsex? Are your males actually not males? If any of these things, why are the genital configurations they way they are? I will accept "because I think it's hot/fun/whatever" as an answer, but please be honest that that IS the answer. A lot of time people try harder and harder to explain biology and just get nonsensical. Which, again, that's fine for having fun, there's nothing wrong with it or enjoying reading it-- but it will bother me.

im sure someone is already opening their bookmarks to send me an example where one of my suggestions happens. don't do that. i know different people do different things and probably there's examples of at least a few of the above. i know this because people keep sending me things i don't want to see, and often times they're still wrong. don't be that guy

my biggest gripe re:biology in omegaverse, like many people, is with the bioessentialism in sex/ARTs/"gender" that omegaverse aus tend to hang on their invented mating system. like, obviously, the aspects where heats/ruts/whatever make people so horny they have to fuck or end up in extreme pain is already dubcon because it's basically just rebranded sex pollen, and it gets worse when writers choose to also include biological mechanisms where one individual can "force" or compel another one, especially when it occurs along sex-specific lines. and like, don't get me wrong-- i like some dubcon tropes. i do not have an issue with people enjoying what they enjoy in fictional scenarios. what bothers me is the shocking frequency with which i will run into people preaching their "moral omegaverse" and then they literally just describe slightly more complicated dubcon. this isn't just an omegaverse fan issue-- people do this with all sort of other tropes and AUs too-- but it is a pattern and it's annoying.

and! here's the thing that extra gets my goat. a reason why a lot of people (not everyone ofc) like sex pollen and other biology-compulsion based dubcon tropes is that the fact that it's "biology" feels like it should free the involved characters of responsibility for their actions. but this is not how human behavior works, and it's literally not how biology works. animals have coercive sex all the time, but evolution does not actually favor this. it is not evolutionarily advantageous to be at the whim of your alpha a male. female mate choice is incredibly important to evolution, and if coercive sex is happening, then something is simultaneously also evolving to re-establish mate choice. that's how you get things like weird shaped penises to match weird shaped vaginas, or females being able to selectively kick out sperm.

also the world is filled with interesting mating strategies and it makes me sad that people want to "explore" it and then just stick to made-up quasi-wolf dynamics. :( where are the anglerfish dynamics. the whiptail lizard dynamics. the dynamics based on whatever that frog is that can only mate with a different species of frog. why aren't so many people at least googling how seahorses work, and also why do so many people spend so long describing alt biology for how they're getting (insert man here) pregnant only to get the very definition of sex wrong. even if i were into omegaverse, i think i would leave the most unhinged mean comments............

on the technical side of things, maybe armand is intersex. he was often described as being beautiful like a girl! he couldve been born with a boys body but as he got older and hit puberty, perhaps he had a hormone disorder he didn't know about/coupled with sexual trauma/being turned he never really got to go through a full hrt puberty.

i know armand slept with numerous vampires in his coven, but he DOES have a tendency to not fuck human beings. maybe vampires CAN get pregnant, but they need a living counter part to make it work. immortal children are banned under vampire law, so i can see why female vampires aren't having children of their own (for fear of their child/them dying/the child being unable to progress physically or mentally) but wouldn't it just be like armand to be pregnant and not know until it's too late to do anything with?

INTERSEX ARMAND!! YES!! The vampires of the vampire chronicles have always defied gender in its social ways but to have it completely blur binaries of biological sex is so so good, they already have so many differences to their biology and anatomy its not too much of a stretch.

And you’re right, armand is always described as being very androgynous, and bringing that along with his limited memories of his youth and the trauma that he went through, he could very well be intersex and not even realise it, though lack of memory or some other factor. I love exploration of Armand’s gender identity a lot due to his lack of self identity in general, I’ve considered genderfluid armand before and even transgender armand (t4t devils minion… real) but intersex is a new concept to me that’s super fascinating.

On logistics of vampire specific pregnancy, i also agree that one participant must be a living human, i doubt that vampires can get one another pregnant (both being dead things, as well as the law to not create vampire children). I think male vampires who do sleep with human women (cough cough, lestat) would be able to get them pregnant, and that human men can get vampires pregnant too. Someone has to be alive to create life in this scenario.

Who knows if these pregnancies would be entirely viable without specific requirements. Would the fetus need blood in-utero if half-vampire?? or is the baby just human as its created with living dna regardless? how does the vampire reproductive system work?? if their hearts still pump blood and their lungs still breathe, and their brains are still alive, their reproductive system may still be functioning even if other processes shut down? Iirc the VC universe later established that vampirism is kind of like a ghost-alien parasite infecting a dead human body but keeping some parts of it living. maybe this does include reproduction, I think all grounds of logic went out when we first got to aliens.

In the tv-show universe (in which im basing this crazy au), the vampires can have sex (though they could not in the books), so this implies a working reproductive system.

Anyway yeah! I think intersex Armand COULD be getting pregnant here. Admittedly I’m not super familiar with intersex people and how this would work but I’d love to learn more and it’s definitely a way of getting mpreg to work here. I think im too scared to commit to omegaverse so this is a very fun dynamic and solution.

On to the other parts of this ask as I have gone on a bit, Armand does seem the type to neglect his own wellbeing to the point he doesn’t realise he’s pregnant until months along when there is little to be done, but I also think he wouldn’t want anything to be done. He might not have very good experience or track record with children or kid-vampires (see claudia), but he would love the evidence of love from daniel. It’s a part of daniel and a part of him, I think he’d be obsessed with that, that they can bring something that is alive and good and both of them to the world.

am34: to me in my beautiful world am34 is an omega BUT not in a standard way... he's transgender but re: a/b/o designation not gender. like a/b/o is essentially just a second sex class (there exist in the a/b/o universe 6 "sexes" (not accounting for intersex people in the normal way/intersex people in the a/b/o way): alpha male, alpha female, beta male, beta female, omega male, omega female) and auston is transitioning/has transitioned from alpha to omega. in my mind this works basically the exact same way transitioning does irl, but with different hormones, because obviously a/b/o hormones are diff from m/f hormones!) anyway he would smell similar but different pre- and post-transition: sharp, hot and chemical, like jet fuel and citric acid. eating grapefruit at the airport. it gets sweeter as his transition goes on. lemon slushy by a construction site. they're putting tar on the sidewalk.

A huge section of the population but they also don't entirely tend to get filtered out of or into the nhl... alphas exist in the nhl at similar or higher rates to the genpop, and omegas at similar or slightly lower rates. if alphas and omegas are each 10-15% of the population (combined 20-30%) that means that there's usually ~4-6 alphas + omegas combined on any given nhl team, give or take a few because percentages don't usually work that way. leafs have 5 alphas (mitch, willy, max, benny, dewar) and 3 omegas (am34, jt, kniesy). kniesy is one of those handful of people who is randomly like super educated about a/b/o biology etc etc. like dude paid attention in sex ed class??? i guess??? he smells a little bit like cheap tequila and a Lot bit like breakfast food, scrambled eggs and that very specific diner toast smell and those maple breakfast sausages. don't forget your orange juice!!

In this Omegaverse AU, is there any ideas you have about their biology that is uncommon in or highly distinct from other omegaverse universes?

Yeah, I think I have some interesting things going on in my worldbuilding! Now, I don't read all that much omegaverse, so I'm sure that all of these details show up SOMEWHERE out there in the wide world of omegaverse fic. But the specific combination of factors seems fairly unique.

So here are the biggest takeaways from my take on omegaverse:

Alphas and omegas are characterized by seasonal periods of high fertility and libido (rut and heat respectively), with low fertility and libido outside of that mating season. Betas, meanwhile, work pretty much like real-world humans do.

Additionally, alpha females and omega males are biological hermaphrodites--that is, they produce both eggs and sperm. (Side note: don't call real-life intersex people hermaphrodites. It's offensive. Also biologically inaccurate.)

Seasonality

Alphas and omegas have a mating season that occurs in late summer. It's during this time that alphas go into rut and omegas go into heat.

Omegas have two or three heats during mating season that last… let's say a few days each. If they don't get pregnant during their first heat of the season, they can go into heat again a few weeks later. Omegas usually ovulate more than one egg at a time during heat, meaning they're prone to multiples--specifically, fraternal twins, triplets, etc.

However, outside of mating season, alphas don't go into rut and omegas don't go into heat. In fact, their sex drives are low-to-nonexistent outside of mating season.

Betas, in contrast, are like real-world humans. They ovulate monthly and can get pregnant any time of the year. Because they're fertile year-round, it's actually betas who have the stereotype of being horndogs who are down to fuck anytime, anywhere.

Presumably omegaverse humans evolved this way because these two reproductive strategies have advantages under different conditions. Alphas and omegas have the advantage of having very obvious periods of high fertility, and their offspring tend to be born in the spring when resources are plentiful. Meanwhile, betas have the advantage of being able to reproduce any time of year, rather than being limited to a short mating season. I don't know under which circumstances each of those would be useful though, so I'll leave that as a question for omegaverse biologists to study.

I imagine that this seasonality would have some huge impacts on the culture that I haven't fully thought through. Certainly almost every culture has some sort of summer holiday around mating season. Spring birthdays are also significantly more common than birthdays any other time of the year. Probably tons and tons of other things too, I don't know.

Also. Historically, mating season is in the summer. However, in this day and age of indoor living, it's not unheard of for people's estrous cycles to get desynced from the seasons. This is especially true for night workers and people with irregular sleep schedules. This means that it's possible, for example, for an omega to go into heat wildly out of season and get knocked up with twins who get born in December. You know, to give a totally random example that surely has no bearing on anything that happened in the backstory of this AU…

Side note: Omegas have estrous cycles rather than menstrual cycles, meaning they don't menstruate. They just reabsorb the uterine lining if they don't get pregnant. Actually, I'm toying with the idea of saying that all humans have estrous cycles in this setting; it's just that it's way less obvious when betas and alphas go into estrus. Not sure, I'll have to think that one through.

Who can get whom pregnant?

Here's a general overview. Obviously, this is very simplified; just like in real life, there are all sorts of possible intersex conditions, and people in any of these categories can be trans on either axis (male-female and alpha-beta-omega).

Alpha male: can impregnate others, unable to get pregnant

Alpha female: can impregnate others, can get pregnant

Beta male: can impregnate others, unable to get pregnant

Beta female: unable to impregnate others, can get pregnant

Omega male: can impregnate others, can get pregnant

Omega female: unable to impregnate others, can get pregnant

However, the specifics of how likely any of these categories are to impregnate or get pregnant varies. So let's get into the details.

Alphas

Both male and female alphas have penises and produce sperm. They produce high volumes of sperm when in rut, low volumes outside of rut. Alpha penises tend to be larger than beta and omega penises, and only alphas have the characteristic knot.

In addition to the penises, alpha females also have vaginas and uteruses and produce eggs. This means they're theoretically able to become pregnant. However, several factors stand in the way:

Rut hormones suppress ovulation, meaning that during the time when their sex drives are highest, they're unable to become pregnant.

Ovulation is "hidden" like it is in betas (and real-world humans)--that is, you can't tell just by looking that an alpha female is ovulating. Possibly they also tend to have irregular ovulation cycles, or ovulate less frequently than betas do.

Alphas tend to have smaller and narrower pelvises, making carrying a pregnancy notoriously difficult for alphas. Miscarriages are common.

It's not uncommon for alpha females to be outright infertile, egg-wise.

Betas

Betas are pretty much laid out like real-world humans. (Aside from the possibility that they technically have estrous cycles rather than menstrual cycles, as mentioned above.) Males produce average volumes of sperm. Females ovulate roughly once a month.

Omegas

Both male and female omegas have uteruses and produce eggs. They often ovulate more than one egg at a time while in heat, meaning they're prone to multiples. They don't ovulate outside of heat. They tend to have wider hips to accommodate the larger pregnancies.

Omega males additionally have penises and produce sperm. They're kind of the opposite of alpha females--their sperm production is suppressed while in heat, and really, they don't produce very high volumes of sperm any time of year. They're theoretically capable of getting others pregnant, but since their sperm quality is low and they can only do it during the times of year when their libidos are low, it's uncommon.

Also, omega males possibly have internal testes. I'm undecided on that one.

All told, for an omega male to get an alpha female (or an alpha FTM) pregnant would require both participants to be VERY determined. Not impossible, though. Not impossible………. Surely this isn't relevant to this story though. Surely.

omegaverse has such a fascinating set of assumptions by the people who consume it and specifically posit it as queer friendly because obviously the first question is queer friendly for who, and in what way? And the answer is almost always friendly for cis people, in a way that approaches gender from a cis perspective— I’ve read some/a lot omegaverse, depending on your definition of a lot, and it often ends up regurgitating the same structures of gendered oppression and bioessentialism that people who write omegaverse argue they are breaking away from. There’s a lot I find interesting about how omegaverse as a kink trope (and one whose origins are founded on junk science to begin with) Does end up exploring gender, but not in the way that its authors argue: the amount of fics that use he/him pronouns for an omega character (lol) but then always refer to said character as a wife/queen/etc., the burgeoning proliferation of omegaverse where someone’s status as an alpha or omega ends up confirming their sex (ie when I once say someone say “the brilliant idea that all omegas have pussies,” pardon the language) leading to a blurring of gender and sex where transness is ultimately unable to exist in any meaningful way (I say this as in: omegaverse in these cases often posits a world where there IS gender-related strife, but also one where the facets that determine gender are both immutable and never questioned, but never need to be), but the fantasy of something “transgressive” and yet familiar remains the main drawing point— your favorite yaoi can now have missionary sex with a pregnancy fantasy! There is also the fact that I’ve seen people often argue that omegaverse exists as a way for (cis) women to depict misogyny and oppression familiar to them in an environment that does not harm them, because now the oppression is targeted on lithe twinks, and I’m sure that’s, to an extent, true? But not to a meaningful extent, when the vast majority of omegaverse fic is porn and when it refuses to interrogate the aspects of the societies depicted that allow it to BE both escapism and exploration. I realize you did not .. like… ask for this essay in your inbox but it’s a topic I find super interesting as someone who is interested in fanfiction trends and also analysis of those trends. Haha

also fully agreed with what you said abt bioessentialism and transgressiveness. omegaverse is also Massively intersexist and relies a LOT on the supposed transgressiveness of bodies with both penises and vaginas in order to sell its fantasy. there's a lot of fetishization of nonstandard bodies wrapped up in there! and of course all held together with the idea that an omega body and an alpha body must exist in certain ways, and interact sexually in certain ways.

imo, it's a way to have the idea of trans, intersex, and gay people, but not actually think meaningfully about how they exist in relation to power structures. sure, everyone is gay, everyone has a body that would likely be considered intersex in our world, but in THAT world, that's just the norm, and a norm mandated by the laws of the universe at that. people are still functionally heterosexual and cisgender and perisex by the norms of the universe. is this progressive? is this really the sort of world that's safe for lgbt people to see themselves in?

i also hate the argument that it's progressive because cisgender women can process their own oppression. firstly, as you said, they don't challenge it generally, but displacing misogynist oppression onto fictional gay men is not progressive either! i have a friend who is a gnc trans gay man and we talk a lot about how fandom stuff, esp omegaverse, makes him feel alienated and fetishized by the same people who claim that it's inclusive of people like him. i think if you're writing fiction ABOUT gay men but not even attempting to consider whether that fiction is something gay men would like to read, you've gone wrong somewhere!

I will say, however, that I do think there are trans people who do like omegaverse. ive seen other nonbinary people call omegaverse "gendery!" but that doesn't mean that it IS doing anything with its gender stuff, or that it's genuinely transgressive. in my opinion, it just means that there are trans people who aren't processing that it's a fantasy of the same power structures that exist in the real world, just reinforced and with the targets shifted. and like... sure, it's nice to see yourself, or something like yourself, treated as the norm in a fictional universe. doesn't mean that it's actually good lol.

(note to all of this: I am a perisex nonbinary lesbian, and I don't feel I'm fully familiar with how this affects intersex people, or gay/trans men. if anybody thinks i'm off base, or even just wants to weigh in, they're welcome to! this is just stuff I've noticed from reading this kind of fanfiction.)

I think it'd be interesting if intersex people were like, maybe anatomically like one dynamics, but behaviourally like another. Specially on their scent. You look at this big person, and you think "there goes an Alpha", but then they just smell like sweet Omega or Beta and you're like "wait a sec--". I like the idea of different shapes and placements of glands too! That'd be quite interesting. As for the gonads and reproductive organs, technically in my verse, Alpha females and Omega males are in a way, already what one may consider intersex (at least one interpretation of it). Female alpha have a slit/vagina that acts as a sheath for their penis, which only grow upon arousal, much like cats. And at least in my verse, Omega males have a vestigial penis and testicles, that although not functional for reproduction still react to arousal and stimulus. They also have a womb accessible by their booty, which I know many people don't like, but hey, my game my rules, right? Thinking of other possible intersex presentations in a verse such as this, then one could maybe argue for functional and larger penises for "supposed" Omegas while keeping the ability to carry offspring. And for female Alphas maybe maintining the ability to carry children, like Beta females, but having a smaller, non functional penis. And also a myriad of other possibilities. Would that be enough to constitute a new dynamics? Maybe, idk actually. I think much like in real life, it'd be up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to be segregated and categorized as something other. It's certainly a fun thing to consider and build a story or some headcanons in the very least upon. Thank you for the ideas :))

and the thing that makes the mind break verse SO good (imo) is that. this is a genuine case of all of this is done out of love. if obi-wan didnt force bond anakin, then his canon injuries would have occurred and he would have fully become darth vader. if anakin remembers he fell, or falls again, then he'll go out into a world that is ready and wants to kill him (surviving jedi [gonna alter order 66 to some extent], other darksiders, members of the republic who desperately want to keep laying blame at someone's feet for the entire war). obi-wan loves anakin and wants him to live and be happy. anakin does love obi-wan, and trusts him so entirely, which is why believe his mate when he gives him weird medicine and says that another baby will fix him.

omegaverse is problematic, so let’s talk about it

A/B/O is fun and all, and I can respect it as a kink, but we have to remember it often:

Promotes and normalizes sexism and misogyny (i.e. femininity = weak/bad/punishment, masculinity = strong/good/desirable).

Specifically objectifies, commodifies, and sometimes infantilizes women/AFAB individuals.

Is hyper-patriarchal and exploits uneven gender power dynamics and weaponizes traditional gender roles.

Fetishizes and sexualizes LGBT+ relationships (healthy and unhealthy).

Specifically fetishizes transgender and intersex individuals (i.e. mpreg).

Glorifies and romanticizes domestic abuse, toxic relationships, and abusive relationships.

Animalizes and bestializes people (especially contextually problematic when the person is a POC).

Implicatively paints rape culture in a positive light.

Idealizes unhealthy, toxic, and/or abusive behaviors (i.e. jealousy, possessiveness, anger, etc).

Creates an implicit racial hierarchy wherein the stand-in for race is the rank/“subgender” (i.e. Alpha at the top (White-coded), Sigma (sometimes), Beta, Omega at the bottom (POC-coded).**

If you like A/B/O, whether as a consumer or writer or whatever, I’m not saying that you support any of these ideas. What I am saying, however, is that there needs to be a conversation held about Omegaverse, and its implications and thematic elements. For most of these, it really isn’t hard to see them manifest in A/B/O works (especially the gender and LGBT stuff), because for a lot of them they have become normalized within the genre. I feel that is irresponsible and unwise. These are issues that affect real world people daily, to varying degrees of harm, and a lot of violence occurs to the often marginalized groups that A/B/O tends to exploit.

All I ask is that you recognize these themes in A/B/O and Omegaverse media, because your silence or ignorance on the matter can perpetuate the problem. To be responsible consumers and producers of content, we have to be cognizant of its inherent problems.

I don’t have a complete or all-encompassing list of solutions, but here are some I’ve thought of:

Avoid gendered roles, obligations, and behaviors.

Diversify your A/B/O subgenders.

Don’t resort to stereotypes.

Frame abusive/toxic/criminal behaviors and acts as completely unacceptable, detested, and wrong.

Avoid portraying rape/sexual assault/violence as a “natural” or “inherent” urge/quality.

Subvert the hyper-patriarchal narrative by not always making The Man™ the head honcho.

Resist the temptation to make your LGBT couple’s only personality trait as “We’re queer and we fuck” (same goes for hetero couples tbh).

Remember that characters are still people, even though the work is fictional.

Please be careful about how you write/portray POC characters.

And for any work that may contain sensitive/offensive content, tag your work properly. Always disclose what your story contains.

Again, this post is not meant in any way to call out or demonize you if you enjoy A/B/O. It’s a valid kink, and I even like certain aspects of it. I just believe that it’s always smart to be conscious of the highs and lows of the things you enjoy.

On the fetishization of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s hair and fanon biology

This could honestly probably go on my list of things I am salty about essays I will eventually write, but… have the essay.

Honestly the fandom trend I am probably most uncomfortable with is… the amount of fics that reduce Obi-Wan to how desirable he is because of either his red hair or his fanon Stewjoni biology and spend so much time talking about how much it would make him worth as a sex slave? Freak me out. 

I mean, I get it. I *love* fucked up porn and whump and hurt/comfort (and hurt/no comfort depending on my mood) and well, fandom tends to give the most whump to a specific character type and Obi-Wan fits that for a lot of people. And redheads are really rare and considered exotic by a lot of people (I say we, because I am a redhead) and omegaverse’s popularity has *greatly* increased the amount of ‘non-traditional biology’ fics and Stewjoni fanon biology lets people write that without going into the power dynamics inherent in Omegaverse. 

I’m cisgender, so I don’t feel entirely qualified to talk about the fanon biology, but I will note that the amount of murders of trans sex workers (and transpeople in general) adds an extra element that makes this incredibly uncomfortable. And I don’t particularly expect realism in my porn, but I do know that some… inaccuracies in common fanon Stewjoni fantasy biology often unintentionally harms intersex people in the real world.

And also if I never have to read another fic again about how great someone with my hair and coloring would be as a sex slave, it would be way too soon. 

I don’t think anyone should ever have to out their identity to justify what they’re writing - I am still bitter about being told that a prompt I came up with for lgbtfest was offensive to bisexuals when *I am bisexual and was using my lived experience* and depending on the writer, what people may think is offensive could just be someone clunkily exploring their own lived experiences/working out some trauma. But I do think that as a trend, considering a lot of the fanon biology stuff is written by people who publicly identify as cis, it is worth reflecting on.

Write what makes you happy, tag accordingly, but also consider that there might be some things that show in your work that you didn’t intend to portray/be there. I know fandom is not a safe space, which is why I love when people tag and tag well!
