Fairytale Complex - [Undertale | Sans x Reader]
[Gender Neutral, Frisk's Parent Reader | Slow Burn]
Chapter Sixteen | Dummy! (Part 1 of 3 | His POV)
[First] | [Previous] | [Next]
Alternate Chapter Title: Oh, Sugar Honey Iced Tea!
• • •
"You're the one they're dating, aren't you?" Jerry asks, obstructing the line. A few potential customers leave when they notice what's going on, not bothering to become involved in the mess. "How's that gonna even work, though? They're only into real men as far as I know. You're just bones and magic."
"This really ain't the place for us to be talkin' about this, pal," Sans replies, looking behind Jerry. "Just lemme do my job. We can talk about this after I clock out."
"Don't you have a lunch break? Let's talk by then."
"'Fraid I've already got plans for lunch."
"Does it involve them?"
"Maybe." The monster shoos him out of the hot dog stand, continuing to serve those in wait. "Dunno why you're still so hung up over this, though. Why don't ya move on?"
"That's easier to say than do." Again, Jerry obstructs the line, ignoring those who tell him to buzz off. He suspends himself over the cart and grabs Sans by the collar, pulling him off the ground until he's to his eye level. He narrows his eyes and tightens his grip on the monster's shirt, yet the latter remains calm. "How far have you gone with them? You're betraying our friendship."
Sans uses magic to break free from Jerry's hold. Then, he shrugs, hands slipping into his pockets. "Let's end it, then. Rather have that than let you keep on questionin' me over weird stuff, and then make me lose customers 'cuz ya keep on blockin' the line."
"Wouldn't have happened if you'd just tell me what's going on."
"I would," Sans comments, taking a water bottle and handing it to one of his clients. "But realistically speakin': What's it to ya? From what I've noticed so far, they've moved on from you, pal."
"But I haven't."
Chuckling, Sans takes a break from the conversation to look up at the sky, grey clouds blocking the sun and the heat. There are people around with their umbrellas already at hand. Those who don't have any rush to find someplace with a roof. "I'm gonna say this nicely, so hear me out." He emerges out of the hot dog stand and starts closing things up, not only due to the worsening weather, but it being barely ten minutes away from his lunch break. If Jerry was still at it, he needed that extra time to get him off his back. "I don't want any trouble, so stop tryna stir some. You had your chance, Jerry. Now it's none of your business who your ex chooses to date, and even less how far they've gone with that person."
"It should be if Frisk will be in the picture."
"Then take responsibility and look after them. You're worryin' too much about this."
"You don't know what I've been through."
"Maybe not, but I can at least tell you to try. Didn't you do the same when I was talkin' about hitting things off with (Y/N)?"
"That was a mistake." He scoffs, glaring at the monster. "Don't rub it in."
Sans finishes closing up right as the first few drops fall. A strong wind blows, wet earth and hot concrete wafting through the air. When he walks off -- Jerry now left behind -- Sans soon stops, hearing him mutter out a 'wait'. Then, he turns around, facing up at the human man, anger present in his posture, stiff and awkward. "Just... Just tell me if you're serious about them or not."
Though it pours, Sans is unable to move. He stays still and considers Jerry's words, thinking back on the night at the hotel and yesterday evening.
Sure, he found them attractive -- attentive and dedicated when it came to their role as a parent, too.
But why exactly did he want to be with them?
Despite his social circle, he mostly thrived alone, and taking up big responsibilities wasn't his thing, in truth. It often tired him out to so much as consider having a serious relationship with someone, and he couldn't even maintain his current friendships or the day-to-day life with his brother. He sounds a lot like the same man he's judging with those last lines, yet it doesn't feel right; that same sensation increases the more he considers his feelings and the situation overall. Living with his brother brought upon an inevitably energetic lifestyle. His personality was far different from Papyrus's, and -- on some occasions -- he didn't exactly feel his best self knowing those differences were still present between him and most of the people he knew.
So why was he getting himself into something as complex as a romantic relationship?
Was he only curious about how it all felt, having heard others around him talk about love and intimacy ever since he could remember?
If that was the case, then it really wasn't okay for him to keep fooling around with them.
And judging by how stern and persistent Frisk was when it came to defending their primary care parent, they wouldn't be, either.
"You just think they're attractive, and that's about it. Right? They're only eye candy to you, I'm sure." Jerry comments, Sans's time having run out. "Betting you ten bucks you'll ditch them the second you get bored of them."
He doesn't hold back his tongue, replying with, "Talkin' from experience?"
With the rain now pouring too hard for either of them to continue, Jerry settles by glaring at the skeleton before giving his back to him. "You dodged my question," he remarks, snickering. "Let's have a talk when you've actually got an answer, and maybe then you can go ahead and judge me all you want, bro." Silence arrives, broken with, "In the end, you're just as bad as me."
Sans stays quiet, analyzing the bit of truth in Jerry's words.
Before Frisk freed his kind, how many times didn't he simply stand by the sidelines, watching as fallen human after fallen human got hurt, sought, and wounded -- until their passing?
He didn't hurt anybody, but then he also didn't help anybody either. Things had gone in a similar way with Frisk; he'd only watched over them every so often, fulfilling Toriel's promise of not hurting any human, but half-heartedly -- seeing as he'd never bothered to help them much, either.
What guaranteed he wouldn't do the same thing here at the Surface, and even more with a human crush he was only recently getting to know?
"Sans, you're soaked!"
Speaking of them, Sans sets those thoughts aside and looks up to see an umbrella covering him up. (Y/N) stands under it and close to him, brushing shoulders as they escort him off to drier land. Their touch sends electricity down his body, yet he forces himself to ignore it, a flash of guilt overcoming those wants. He accompanies them under a bus stop, its roof providing partial cover from the rain. They keep the umbrella straight even as they rummage through their belongings, looking intent to take out something from there. "Hold on a second," they say, retrieving a pink and polka-dotted handkerchief from one of their bag's tiny side pockets. "It's… not really much, but it's better than staying all wet."
Sans nods, still too lost in his thoughts to respond properly. He takes off his jacket and grabs the piece of cloth, quirking an eye socket when he sees the human move their gaze elsewhere. "...Your shirt's a bit thin," they comment, as if reading his mind. If it embarrassed them, it was hard to tell with their voice, too quiet for him to catch onto any change in tone. "Should we find somewhere else to stay? The sky just keeps getting worse."
Almost seeming to set those priorities straight, the weather responds to their comment by lashing out more rain, stronger than before. A car drives past, sending a torrent of water at his and everybody else's direction, holding little regards to speed, puddles, and those nearby. He reacts by instinct, casting a quick shield to prevent everyone around from getting wet. As he steps back, his shoulder brushes with theirs again and he's forced to suppress another shudder. His soul and body both long for their presence; his brief time with them at the hotel has now become a faint yet pleasant memory he wanted to keep and cherish whenever possible. "Let's go," he replies. Then, he reaches out for the umbrella without looking.
He grabs their hand instead -- by accident, that is.
To his surprise, they don't pull back, and he follows their gaze to see them looking up at the sky. "...It's getting worse," he hears them say, a hint of sadness showing up on their tone, words muttered. "Let's go to my place." Their comment is pure survival instinct more than anything suggestive. He sees their chest rise and fall at quicker intervals, hinting at panic. "I need to go get Frisk if the weather keeps up like this."
Their voice breaks and their hand stays with his. Briefly, he wonders why they're scared over the bad weather, that being something mostly he was known for.
"Aren't they with Toriel today?" Sans asks, trying to lighten up the mood. "The kid's safe if you're worried about 'em."
(Y/N) remains quiet, observing the rain before saying, "I… I lost them in a storm like this one the last time they ran away." They huff, not in annoyance, but in fright -- based on the shudder their body makes. They press themselves closer to him, the height difference making their arm brush with his shoulder. Their head rests against the top of his, tilted over to the side. "I'm worried they'll do it again with what… happened yesterday."
He slips his free hand back into his pocket, still too awkward to pull his hand away from the umbrella. "Do ya really think they'll do somethin' like that again?" It's an unforeseen question, one he feels imprudent over asking. Even so, there's no turning back now, and he can only try to soften up his words better. "They looked pretty sorry for doin' that twice."
"Still…" They press closer to him, holding his waist. Judging by how careful their touch is and how little their expression shifts from their sorrow, he shakes off the possibility of this being one of their attempts at paying back at him for his flirting. "I'm worried." Their hand slips away, leaving the ghost of their warmth on his bones. "We should get going. You're still soaked." They smile, continuing with, "Thank you, by the way. It was a lot better having you pick us up, rather than taking the bus at seven."
Finally capable, Sans pulls his hand back and follows them out of the bus stop, finding additional coverage under the roofs of nearby buildings. "No problem," he says, looking up at them. Only the human and himself can be seen walking; the rest of the people around either make a run for it, or take cover inside shops and offices. "That's what we're all here for, pal."
They smile; all the uncertainty from before seems to have never existed with how bright their expression is. Then, they nod and bump their hip against his. "I mean it," they say, lips tugging upwards. "I, well… I still feel weird over our date, but in a good way, though."
• • •
He arrives at their home an hour after.
The weather's still at it, though compared to previous times, there's no thunder to worry about yet. All sorts of leaves litter the grass and the roads around, the strength of the wind being responsible for it. A few car alarms go off as debris falls over them, leaving their owners to try bringing control over the situation.
When he makes it with them to the front door, they open it up in no time at all and bundle him up with a towel as soon as they step inside.
"You should shower and change, just in case," they say, slipping off their shoes. They set the pair aside next to the welcome mat, and he figures he should do the same, too. "I'm not sure if monsters can get sick this way, but you should head over to the bathroom while I look for some clothes."
It's only when they turn to him that the situation finally gets to him. Captivated by their words, he looks up at them with a grin, that alone resulting to be enough for them to freeze and stay still, like a deer in the middle of a road. "Taking this dating thing seriously, huh?" he asks, stepping closer to their side. They don't take a step back, nor do they glare, looking as lost as humans often did when they fell Underground. "I'm flattered."
When they do show their anger, it conflicts with a frown and watery eyes -- far different from their usual self. Even when they'd become frustrated confronting Alphys and Undyne about their lives underground, they hadn't shown sorrow like this one. It's distant and concerning enough for him to want to back away from his frequent teasing.
(Y/N) takes a step forward, the clicking of their shoes now gone. Then, they lower their gaze and their frown quivers as they try not to let their tears fall. "I…" They hold on to his shoulder, bringing him closer as they do the same. Their eyes narrow and their unknown conflict shows through the wrinkles on their forehead and the subtle pout of their mouth. With how close they are, it wouldn't take much for their lips to brush with his teeth.
Just as he feels their arm around his waist, they pull back, looking elsewhere as they backtrack on their steps. "...I need to ask you something," they say, still facing away. All of a sudden, their conflict dissipates and anger returns to their posture. They cross their arms, finding strength again. "Can... Can you stay over so we can talk?"
Sans nods, keeping his cool. He tries not to think back too much on how close they just were or how they'd brushed off their sadness like it was nothing, yet it's hard to do. His soul pounds as he holds them back with a 'wait', refraining from physical contact. "You doin' alright, (Y/N)?" he asks, holding back a breath. "We can still talk about yesterday, if you wanna. Maybe we can't go anywhere with the weather right now, but I can make us that dinner I promised you last time."
Their lips form a firm line as they consider his offer.
Seconds later, a smile shows on their face. They then look down at their phone, checking the time. "Sounds good." They grin, a stifled laugh following it. "Now go change, Sans. We can't keep this up if you get sick!"

The Legacy of Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo is a Mexican born artist formerly remembered for her paintings, more specifically her paintings based on nature and Mexican culture as well as her many self-portraits. Kahlo took up painting whilst recovering for a bus accident she was in as a teenager, the accident left her in a full body cast for quite some time and painting was her way of distracting her from the pain of recovery. Her work is heavily inspired by her culture which she incorporates in the clothing and scenery that she depicts in her paintings. In her lifetime she completed over 140 paintings (55 of which being self-portraits). A common theme in Kahlo’s work is both physical and emotional pain, the physical pain coming from her multiple surgeries she had to undergo because of her accident and her emotional pain came from her rocky relationship with her husband, fellow artist Diego Rivera (who she married twice). Despite that Kahlo is recognised as one of the greatest artist Mexico has ever seen and has become on of the most widely known artist in the world.
Kahlo was born in Coyoacán, Mexico City on the 6th of July 1907 and her full name is Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón. Kahlo’s father was a photographer who immigrated from Germany to Mexico where he met her mother Matilde, she is the third child with her two older sisters Matilde and Adriana and her younger sister Cristina. Even before her accident Kahlo had problems with her mobility as she contracted polio at a young age that damaged her right foot and caused her to have a limp from the age of six. In 1922 Kahlo became one of the only female students to attend the renowned National Preparatory School in which she became very politically active and joined the Young Communist League and the Mexican Communist Party whilst still a student. Not long after (1928) she married fellow artist Diego Rivera in what would become a very rocky and unstable relationship going through several periods of separation and rekindling, it was this relationship that would inspire some of her most famous paintings.
Kahlo first exhibited her work in 1939 in an exhibit in Paris, her work received massive praise and not long after Kahlo was commissioned by the Mexican government for five portraits of important Mexican women in 1941, however she was unable to finish the project due to the passing of her father as well as her chronic health problems. In 1953 Kahlo got her very first solo exhibit in her home city and, despite being bedridden, she refused to miss the opening and arrived by ambulance to celebrate with attendee’s. After Kahlo’s passing in 1954 her work became the symbol for female creativity and helped fuel the feminist movement in the 70’s, it was such events that has made her artwork iconic. “Frida expresses her own experiences in her works, it is exactly what she is living in her present, how she interprets it and how she believes that others live it. She paints after her divorce, as already mentioned before, “Las dos Fridas”, which we can locate within Surrealism (1939), because the surrealists do not want to copy reality but prefer to capture their reality, which is what they interpret of her dreams, or in the case of Frida, her own experiences, since she was able to create wonderful works from them. (…) Frida differs from the surrealists because she does not pretend to paint her dreams or liberate the unconscious, but through the technique of surrealism expresses her own experiences, which emanate suffering.” – Galeria Valmar, artes visuals, 2019.

The Broken Column
For this next part I wanted to analyse some of Kahlo’s most famous paintings and explore the deeper meaning behind them, starting with ‘The Broken Column’. ‘The Broken Column’ was a self-portrait created in 1944 shortly after a spinal surgery Kahlo underwent due to her accident, the surgery left her in a full body cast and a spinal brace which can be seen in the painting. Also in the painting we can see her body appearing almost cut in half, as if her spine had been ripped out, as well as nails poking out of her body. This actively demonstrates the physical pain constant years of surgery has caused Kahlo with the nails being a physical representation of such. Through the centre of her body the column taking the place of her spine is broken in several places creating the effect that it’s about to crumble and collapse on itself. Almost all of Kahlo’s self-portraits are meant to display her suffering caused by her accident, which left her both unable to bear children and ended her dreams of becoming a doctor, this is often shown by her facial expressions with ‘The Broken Column’ being no exception. After a closer look you can tears falling down her face as well as strong highlights in her pupils to emphasise the physical and emotional pain she was suffering. “The Broken Column was painted shortly after Frida Kahlo had undergone another surgery on her spinal column. The operation left her bedridden and “enclosed” in a metallic corset (…) The accident ended Kahlo’s dreams of becoming a doctor and caused her pain and illness for the rest of her life. (…) Although her face is bathed in tears, it doesn’t reflect a sign of pain. The nails piercing her body are a symbol of the constant pain she faced.” – Zuzanna Stanska, The daily art magazine, 2017.
Some people also believe that this painting is not just a representation of the pain Kahlo endured because of her health, many believe that it is also a commentary on the emotional pain caused by her unstable marriage. Most of the Kahlo’s most iconic pieces are inspired by her suffering and serves as a visual representation to her inner thoughts and emotions, her marriage being a large source of suffering throughout her lifetime. Some view the fragmented column lodged in her chest to be fragments of her marriage impaling her. “Despite the somewhat in-your-face symbolism, this is a favourite subject for bad art theory papers, identifying the column as everything from her fragmented marriage to a giant phallus penetrating her body. While such interpretations could be partially true, we think that sometimes a spinal column is just a spinal column (…) She referred to her medical ordeal as her “punishment.”  She also took her tragedy in good humour, saying of this painting, “You must laugh at life...Look very closely at my eyes...the pupils are doves of peace. That is my little joke on pain and suffering…”  Some claim the larger nails over her heart reflect her tortured relationship with Diego Rivera.” – Griff Stecyk, Startle, 2019.

Thinking about death
The next painting I have chosen to analyse is titled ‘Thinking of Death’ which is a self portrait created in 1943. This painting was created around the time Kahlo’s health really began to deteriorate as it depicts herself surrounded by nature with a small skull in her for head. Kahlo painted herself in very traditional clothing with her hair done up in a bun. The skull depicted in her forehead is supposed to represent the fears Kahlo had due to her health battles, with how sick she was death was a constant thought for her with it having come so close multiple times in her life. In Mexican culture death can mean the rebirth of life with is meant to be represented by the lively green leaves behind her as well as her facial expression which shows no sign of fear or panic suggesting Kahlo’s acceptance of death being another part of life. “Due to her poor health condition, death is an inevitable thought which lingering over her mind. In this painting, death is symbolized as skull and crossbones which shows up in her forehead. In ancient Mexican culture, death also means rebirth and life.” – FridaKahlo.org, 2017.
The skull itself represents the thought of death and sits right were ones third eye would be, this suggests that maybe Kahlo views the thought of death as some kind of wisdom instead of a fear, although Kahlo never wished to be labelled as a surrealist artist as her paintings come from her reality. “In Kahlo’s collective work, death seems to pervade almost every one of her paintings as an expression of pain, or a motif of oppression concerning female gender roles. Kahlo employs an almost anatomical eye in looking at her form, juxtaposing it beside images of adorned skeletons.” – MaryFrances Knapp, Seven Pounds, 2017.
Tumblr media
Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird
The final painting I have chosen to analyse is titled ‘Self-portrait with Hummingbird and Thorn Necklace’ which is another self-portrait completed in 1940. In this painting Kahlo is surrounded by animals such as a monkey and a black cat with a large necklace of thorns around her neck, in the thorns there is a hummingbird tangled amongst them. She is also surrounded by green leaves much like ‘Thinking about Death’ with insects like dragonflies and butterflies in her hair, with a blue sky barely peaking behind the leaves. The painting was completed soon after Kahlo’s messy divorces with Rivera following the theme of suffering throughout her paintings. The thorns around her neck could be a visual representation of how it felt to grieve her relationship much like the nails did in ‘The Broken Column’, though it could have a religious meaning referring to Jesus’s crown of thorns. Kahlo also incorporates Mexican culture into this piece with each animal representing something different that is relevant to the context of the painting with hummingbirds symbolising love, black cats symbolising bad luck, Dragonflies symbolising prosperity and monkeys symbolising lust. “This self-portrait was created following Kahlo’s divorce to Diego Rivera (…) There are obvious religious overtones to the piece using Jesus’s crown of thorns. Kahlo has painted herself as a Christian martyr, enduring the pain of her failed marriage (…) In Mexican culture, hummingbirds signify falling in love and are used in love charms (…) Kahlo often used vibrant flora and fauna as backgrounds for her self-portraits, to create a claustrophobic space teeming with fertility. It is thought that the emphasis of her monobrow and moustache – with the lines of her eyebrows mimicking the wingspan of the hummingbird around her neck – was intended as a feminist statement.” – Tara Lloyd, Singul art Magazine, 2019
This painting is a great look into Kahlo’s attention to detail and how every piece of her paintings represents something, she is very in touch with her culture and has great understanding as how to show her emotions and life experiences in each of her pieces. “Like many other of her paintings, this artwork is a lot akin to a painted assortment of symbols. Every element in this painting gives specific clues to Kahlo's mental state, perhaps none more than her still, direct, emotionless gaze that seems to express the immediacy of her pain.” Audrey V, Wide Walls, 2018
To sum up everything thus far Frida Kahlo is an incredible artist who poured her life into her work, her pain and passion has made her paintings so iconic in this modern age. She has become a symbol not only for Mexican artists but female artists as well, paving the way for many like her in the years to come. In response to why she painted so many self-portraits Kahlo responded, “I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best”.

You’re not sure you like this. The feeling of vulnerability, the feeling of not knowing. Of course, you’ve dealt with the unknown before, even with the feelings of vulnerability, your role as Senator for the planet of Busil forcing you to deal with both. But you’ve never felt them the way you do now.
Obi-Wan Kenobi. He’s been assigned as your go-to Jedi guardian for different high-risk trips you make around the galaxy. Being part of the Galactic Senate and being such an outspoken member of the Antislavery committee means you are not a stranger to being a target. It’s because of that which Obi-Wan was assigned to protect you on any high-risk missions. But it’s due to his enthralling ways that you’re in the mess you find yourself in.
You’d never admit it to anyone, but you have feelings for the Jedi Knight. You’re not exactly sure how you got to this point. Romance was never something you’d been looking for. For most of your life, you’ve been involved in politics. Your mother had been a Senator for Busil back in her time, and being the only child, you followed in her footsteps.
No, you’re not sure how you got to this point. But eventually, he began to take over the thoughts in your mind. The small conversations became the highlights of your days. The small kiss he gives your cheek upon greeting you began to leave a burning sensation too immense to ignore. You began to long for the feeling of his skin on yours, the fleeting touch of hands suddenly not being enough. You found yourself getting lost in his eyes. Your heart began to jump at the simple mention of his name. Yes, you have feelings for Obi-Wan, but you know you shouldn’t.
He’s a Jedi, and Jedi have no possessions, no room for attachments. He’s fully dedicated to the Order, you’ve seen it when he talks to you about it. You could never ask him to leave all that behind for you. Instead, you’re left to love him from afar, giving him your heart in silence. But there’s a part of you that feels guilty for keeping it from him. The basis of your friendship is honesty, it’s always been that. Not telling him about how you feel, it makes you feel dishonest, betraying almost. How do you manage to keep this from him without tainting the pillars of your friendship?
You’re currently on a diplomatic mission on a planet in the Outer Rim. Naturally, Obi-Wan is with you. Today in particular, he hasn’t left your side, taking extra precautions after the rumors of an attempt against you. If it weren’t for the important meeting you are to have tomorrow, the mission would have been called off.
“We’ll set camp soon, Senator Y/L/N.” One of your safeguards, Edu, says.
“That sounds great,” you say, welcoming the idea of finally getting some rest.
“You must be tired,” Obi-Wan says, and you look over to find him looking at you with a concerned expression.
It had begun raining some time back, immediately after your speeders had given way. You’d planned on lodging locally, not wanting to bring much attention to you and your entourage’s presence. Because of this, the ship you’d travelled in had been hidden, and you’d been traveling in modest speeders up until they’d stopped working. Now, you’re all left to travel by foot, hoping to reach civilization at sunrise.
“As much as you are, I’m sure.” He, along with your other companions of the mission, have been walking in the rain. You would have been too, if it weren’t for Obi-Wan’s insistence to ‘give you at least some coverage’.
At your response, he smiles. “Always concerned about me. It’s you I’m asking about.”
“I’m simply stating the truth. You’ve been working hard today.”
“Not any harder than most days, rest assured,” he says, and as if on queue, you can see the tiredness in his eyes.
“Obi, I wish you’d take the time to—“
“We’ll be stopping here, Senator.” Edu interrupts you, and before you can continue, Obi-Wan gives you a smile before going to help set up camp.
The loss of speeders not only meant the need to resort to walking; it also meant you had to carry less supplies with you, and consequently, had less tents for the night. Everyone paired up in the tents, and you’d been left to share your tent with Obi-Wan. Somehow, you knew this would be more dangerous than any attempts made on your life.
You’re sitting on the makeshift bed, foot in hand as you lightly massage away the soreness from the day’s walk. You’ve changed into some comfier clothes, undoing your hairdo to release any tension on your head. You can hear voices outside your tent: Obi-Wan and Edu discussing security measures for the remainder of the stay. It’s until you hear them bid each other goodnight that your heartbeat quickens.
“May I come in?” There’s no door, nowhere to knock, but he still wants to make his presence known.
“Of course.”
He enters the tent, the quick opening letting you hear just how bad the rain is outside. This is only emphasized upon seeing him, his brown cloak drenched. Instantly, you stand, making your way towards him with an extra blanket.
“Obi-Wan, you’re soaked.”
You stand in front of him, holding the blanket out to him. He pulls back the hood of his cloak, showing his hair is just as wet. Your heart hurts at the sight, not wanting him to be in any sort of uncomfortable state.
“Please, take that off.” As quickly as the words leave your mouth, the heat travels up to your face. Obi-Wan notices your flustered state and lets out a small chuckle.
“Very direct, I see.”
You reach out to give him a small push. “You know what I mean, Kenobi.”
He does, since he shrugs off his cloak and takes the blanket you have for him, giving a small thanks. He uses it to dry the ends of his hair, moving to lessen the dampness of the rest of his robes (thankfully, they’re not as drenched as his cloak). Your eyes follow his every move, practically glued to the movement. When he’s done, he drapes the blanket over his shoulders, and you take a step closer to wrap it tighter. Lost in thought, you leave your hands on the corners of the blanket, your eyes focusing on the cloth material.
“Is something on your mind, darling?”
Just that I would do anything for you. “No, Obi, just tired is all.”
“You should get some rest then.”
“I was hoping we could talk? We haven’t had much time lately.”
Another small laugh comes from him. “I thought you were tired.”
“Well, yes, but I miss our talks.”
Obi-Wan smiles, giving you a small nod as you make your way to the bed. You sit next to each other, the distance between you seeming too large and too small all at once.
“Now tell me, what’s been going through that brilliant mind of yours?”
Just that I don’t know how to live without you. “I’ve been worried about the mission.”
Obi-Wan’s eyes soften, and he takes a hold of one of your hands. It takes all your strength not to interlock your fingers with his.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of, my dear. I’ll keep you safe.”
You nod, a smile present on your lips. “I know, Obi. It’s not that which I’m worried about. It’s tomorrow’s meeting. I’m worried it won’t go as expected.”
“If there is one thing which I know is guaranteed from this mission, it’s that you’ll do great tomorrow. You’ll get through to them, Y/N, trust me.”
“Thank you, Obi.”
He smiles, giving your hand a small squeeze. The blanket slips off one of his shoulders, and when he moves to fix it, you notice a small grimace on his face.
“Are you hurt?” You try to mask the worry in your voice, to no avail.
“No, I’m fine. It’s from an injury in a previous mission.”
You’re already up from the bed, hands on his affected shoulder.
“Have you gotten it treated?”
“There’s no need. I’m fine, really.”
“No need? Obi-Wan, you have to take care of yourself.”
“I do.”
“Well, you have to do better. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you.”
You don’t realize you’ve said the second sentence out loud until you see his eyes fixed on you. Light-toned sapphires, taking your breath away.
“I...may I?”
At your request he nods, and you move to put pressure on his shoulder. Your hands push and pull at it, carefully massaging it the way your father taught you when young. You see Obi-Wan lightly flinch once, then see his eyes relax. You continue to work on his shoulder in silence until he speaks.
“What are you thinking?”
Just that I’d walk through literal fire for you. “Nothing, really.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes.”
“Hmmmm...” Damn him for knowing you so well.
You finish working on his shoulder, taking your hands away. “How do you feel?”
He rolls it back, and to your delight, he doesn’t grimace anymore. “Much better. Thank you.”
“A small payment,” you say.
“For what?”
Just for showing me what it’s like to love someone. “Always being there for me. And not just on missions. Just, always.”
“There’s nothing to thank, you know that.”
You look at each other for a bit longer before you break your gaze. “Well, I guess we should be going to bed.”
He nods, getting up and setting the blanket he’d had on his shoulders on the floor. He grabs another blanket and rolls it. He’s about to place it on top of the spread out blanket on the floor when you notice what he’s doing.
“You’re not sleeping on the floor, Kenobi.”
He turns to look at you, an eyebrow raised. You continue before he can protest (and before you second guess yourself).
“You have a bad shoulder, and you’ve had a long day. The bed is big enough. We can both fit. And I’m not taking no as an answer.”
An amused smile makes its way to his face. Nodding once again, he picks up the blankets, placing them to the side. You help him fix the bed before slipping under the blankets, Obi-Wan slipping in next to you. Looking up at the tent ceiling and feeling him so close to you, you wonder how you ever thought this was a good idea. You’re just thankful he can’t hear the beating of your heart, at least you hope he can’t.
“Something’s on your mind.” It’s a statement this time, the third time he’s addressed your pensive state. “And it’s not about tomorrow’s meeting.”
Just that I don’t know how much longer I can go without telling you how I feel. You hate keeping this from him. You’ve both always been so honest to each other, why not be honest with this too?
You take a gulp before speaking. “Can I tell you something?”
At the seriousness of your voice, he shifts his body so that it’s facing you, giving you his full attention. You, on the other hand, keep your eyes on the tent ceiling.
“Yes.”
You take a deep breath, and to your own surprise, turn to face him. Like this, he’s even closer, mere inches separating the tips of your noses.
“I adore you, Obi. I have for some time. We’ve always been so honest with each other, and because of that, I need you to know. But know that you’re not obliged to say or do anything. You don’t have to say you love me, you don’t have to say you don’t. You don’t have to say anything. I just need you to know.” You take another deep breath. “I just hope to ask one thing.”
“Just say the word. You know I’d do anything for you.”
His voice is so sincere, and you have to bite the inside of your cheek to calm your breathing.
“Just...let me adore you. It’s been such a beautiful experience for me to feel these things that I do for you. Different and even frightening at times, but really, I’d have it no other way.” It’s after you say the words that fret begins to cloud your mind. Why have you told him? What do you expect him to say? What of the Jedi order?
Obi-Wan closes the distance between you by taking a hold of your face, strong hands holding your cheeks to bring you towards him. His lips land on your forehead, and he gives you a kiss that eases even the sound of the strong rain. With eyes closed, you feel like you’re in the clouds. One of your hand comes up to hold his wrist, while the other lands on his chest, right above his heart. The feeling of his heartbeat under your fingertips is what elicits a bloom within your heart.
“I’d be honored, my love. Only if you allow me to do the same.”
You look up to meet his eyes, the mesmerizing eyes that took your breath away the first time you saw them. “Are you saying that...”
“Yes, darling. I love you. It’s the only thing I’ll ever do.”
Now it’s your turn to kiss him. You take a hold of his face, bringing his lips to yours. The feelings from it, they’re amazing. You know now that the feelings of vulnerability and not knowing are not bad; they’re part of the experience of loving and being loved.
Obi-Wan holds you that night as you sleep, and you swear you’ve never slept better. Yes, you’re sure you love this.

My Top 10 Favorite (and Top 5 least favorite) Izuocha moments
  mysterylover123
OK, to explain that title and why I didn’t have a “least favorite” for any other ship: While I have moments for other ships that I don’t like, none of those ships are canon. I have no interest in making people feel bad about shipping things. I do feel it’s ok to critique writing choices you don’t agree with in the actual show, and there are a few big Izuocha moments I don’t like, so I needed to cover them. I do like this ship, for the record - but the canon handling was odd to me, so I thought I’d do a favorite and least for this list instead of just a favorites.
#10. Battle Trial Arc Teamwork
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Episodes 7-8
What Happens: Deku and Uraraka are teamed up to fight Iida and Bakugo. Uraraka is very reassurring to Deku about their teamwork and at the climax of the arc, they work together to defeat their opponents in awesome fashion. Uraraka also goes up to Deku post arc with concern
Why I Like It: I do like me some battle couples. I love seeing Deku talk to Uraraka about his feelings (albeit for Bakugo) and Uraraka calling them a team and working hard because Deku inspires her to try harder. Deku showcases his scheming brilliant brain here too.
#9. Voting for Deku
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From; Episode 9 “Just Do your best Iida”
What Happens: The voting happens. Bakugo pitches a fit that two people voted for Deku, and Uraraka whistles while thinking “I’ll just keep my vote to myself”
Why I Like It: Uraraka voted for Deku, like Shoto did for Momo, and keeps it a secret. I’m hoping we get a similar scene to the Todomomo one where Ochako reveals this, though I’m not sure how that would play out.
#8. Someone you like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Season 3 Episode 15
What Happens: Uraraka, embarrassed about her classmates grilling her on her love life, floats to the ceiling - and sees Deku out the window practicing ultimate moves. She seems very smitten.
Why I Like It; This is a more pure Izuocha moment as she responds to him romantically, reaction to how cool he is and how much she admires him. I’m not wild about Mina telling Uraraka she likes Deku, but I do like he actually acting like she does.
#7. Cavalry Battle Teamup
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: The Sports Festival Arc 2.04-2.05
What Happens: Ochako teams up with Deku in the Cavalry battle, hoping to as she later puts it “rely on him to get by”. She gets jealous of how much attention he pays Mei. Deku thinks about her support of him and all she’s done for him as he fights hard to win.
Why I Like It; This is actually more of a Deku on Ochako moment, since she later complicates her own role in this with her admission about Iida. But Deku says that he wanted her for his team, and thinks how cool she is, and is inspired by her support of him to fight Todoroki. It shows how much he values her support.
#6. Joint Training Arc Teamwork
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Chapters 209-216
What Happens: Deku and Uraraka watch each others’ backs in combat. Uraraka saves him from his powers gone mad, hugging him to calm him down. Afterwards she blushes about it, and he possibly blushes too though it’s not clear.
Why I Like It: Again, love some teamwork pairings. I wanted a little more from this arc (Uraraka talking Deku down instead of Shinso) but we still got her hugging him and blushing about it while thinking about her new “who saves the heroes” motivation. Deku is also grateful to her for saving him. Uraraka works well with him, worries about him, but now she doesn’t let it distract her.
#5. First Meeting and Rescue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Chapters 2-4
What Happens: Uraraka saves Deku from tripping over his feet. Deku is attracted to her; she gets trapped in the fight and Deku saves her. This gets him into UA. She also offers him her points to Present Mic.
Why I Like It; It’s such a sweet first impression. He thinks she’s cute (she finds him plain, which annoys me - someone call Deku pretty before the series if over.) He saves her, she saves him, she offers him her points, he thinks about how she helped him before and tries to go talk to her. I like how he compares it to saving Kacchan from the sludge monster too - saving Uraraka is put in the same category as saving his lifelong acquaintance, despite having just met her.
#4. Deku means you can do it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Episode 6 Rage you Damn Nerd
What Happens: Uraraka greets Izuku as “Deku” based on Bakugo’s name. Izuku corrects her but she suggests Deku could mean “you can do it.” Izuku immediately changes his attitude on the name. Later that ep he takes her name as his “you can do it” motto, which she finds touching.
Why I Like It; The Deku name is one of my favorite Izuocha bits. I love how she gives his nickname a new meaning and he likes it, takes it for himself, and finds strength from this support. (Of course, this is one of many moments on this list that some how also connects with Bakugo. There’s a lot of subtle parallelism  between Ochako and Kacchan, probably since these three were the first three characters designed for the series).
#3. Giving her a plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Season 2 Episode 8 Battle on challengers
What Happens: Deku notices how upset Uraraka is before her match and offers her a scheme to use against Bakugo. She declines and heads out to her match; post fight, he comes in to comfort her and is touched again by her support.
Why I Like It; Deku noticed she was upset! He offered to help her, wanting to support her like she’s supported him! He roots for her and admires her techniques, corrects Bakugo about her hard work, and tries to be there for her when she loses. She’s so sad about her loss, and I wish she’d cried on his shoulder instead of shutting him out - one day, she will, I hope.
#2. The real Uraraka
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From; Shiketsu High Lurking 3.16
What Happens: Deku, while fighting Camieraka, recognizes that she isn’t Ochako. He runs down all of Uraraka’s features and why Camieraka can’t really be her.
Why I Like It; Deku shows here that he actually knows Uraraka pretty well, understands her, knows what she would never do and guesses that Camie was impersonating her. I like when people show they know their dates - once again, he knows her by now to the same degree that he knows his lifelong acquaintance Bakugo (in S1’s BTA he also knows Bakugo’s techniques in the same manner). I like that kind of familiariity.

#1. Deku, that has to be my codename
Tumblr media
From: Season 2 Episode 13 Time to pick some names
What Happens: Midoriya picks Deku as his hero name, explaining that Uraraka made him see it in a different way, and smiling about it. We see Kacchan and Ochako both reacting.
Why I Like It; This simple scene is my favorite Izuocha moment, because I love how much the Deku name means to Midoriya. It’s kind of a motif among friendships in the show, this “picking your hero name” thing, and while Bakugo did come up with the name, Ochako gave it its new meaning. I like seeing them happy.
Top 5 Least Favorite
#5.  Putting those feelings away
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Provisional License Exam Arc
What Happens: Ochako decides to put her feelings for Deku away instead of acting on them in a little monologue.
Why I Didn’t Like It; While I’m glad we get to focus more on Ochako being a badass, as a shipper I found her decision frustrating. It just makes no sense that she can’t just tell Deku she likes him, date him and be happy. All that buildup doesn’t seem to be leading towards anything but delaying the inevitable. I find it really annoying when series up off the inevitable get together till the end just because it’s expected.
#4. Running away at the mall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Season 2 Episode 25 “Encounter”
What Happens: Ochako, left alone with Deku, runs away yelling about bug spray. He gets attacked by Tomura while she freaks out about her feelings.
Why I Didn’t Like It; Well for one, we miss a chance for them to hang out one-on-one. Two, Uraraka indirectly calls Deku a “pest”, hurting his feelings. Three, we juxtapose her feelings with Tomura nearly killing Deku. Forth, she finds the idea of liking him so scary and off-putting, and this becomes her story for the next two arcs, which I find annoying since it just repeats the same thing over and over again.
#3. Because you like him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Final Exam Arc
What Happens: During their fight with 13, Uraraka is thinking “what would Deku do?” Aoyama asks Uraraka if she likes Deku. This freaks her out and nearly gets her killed.
Why I Didn’t Like it: I don’t get why Aoyama did this. Why? What was he thinking, why ask this during their test, why does this lead to Uraraka beating 13, why was this the way we made Izuocha canon? I don’t get why Uraraka’s crush on Deku has to be something other people tell her she has, can’t she just figure it out for herself? Aoyama what is your deal? I legitimately don’t get what Horikoshi was going for her.
#2. Hey jealousy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Various
What Happens: Uraraka freaks out when Deku gets near Mei, Melissa, and Camie, burning with Jealousy. Most recently she punched herself in the face for doing so.
Why I Didn’t Like It; I didn’t mind the first time with Mei, because it was Deku complimenting Mei, or Melissa in the film. But the other times, Deku is getting felt up and creeped out by invasive girls who scare or harm him, and Uraraka reacts by getting jealous of him, instead of trying to defend him. Try flipping their genders and see how disturbing it comes across. Like a “Nice Guy” getting mad that his crush is daring to get felt up by other men. Even if she says it makes her uncomfortable.
#1. Himiko Toga’s monologue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Training Camp Arc
What Happens: Toga recognizes that Uraraka likes Deku and creepily tells her that she has “her smell”, that they’re both obsessed with copying and replacing their boys. She later says “a great deal of faith is placed in you”.
Why I Didn’t Like It; Toga is Uraraka’s evil foil. If liking Deku this way is Uraraka’s flaw, that places a really negative spin on Izuocha. It makes it seem like liking Deku is only going to lead Uraraka down a wrong path and make her fall. Why? Why does her main romance have to be something that apparently scares and hurts her? It’s Deku for crying out loud! He’s a sweetheart, he likes her, they get along. This implies that Uraraka’s feelings for Deku are similar to Toga’s for Stain - she wants to kill and replace the person she admires. Also, the “trust in you” line sounds like blatant Traitor-Uraraka baiting, like that line in her bio about there being no “hidden side to her”. I love Toga, I love Ochako, I want them to be great foils, but I don’t want that to be in a way that makes Ochako’s romance look creepy.
So that’s my thoughts - read my meta for the whole story. I ship it but I want the story to start handling it differently.

Reader x Shingen Takeda - Reverse Roles
Title: Reverse Roles
Fandom: Ikemen Sengoku

Warnings: THIS IS A SIN
Kinks: blow job, toys (vibrator), voyeurism, dom!fem, cum swallow, nipple play, begging, dirty talk
Intended Gender Audience: Female audience
Word Count: 1985 words
Other comments: this is an AU where you returned to the future with Shingen after securing the past so that it would play out as similar to history as possible (basically he faked his death so that he could go you); you taught him about the future and he caught on really well, but his favourite thing to learn about was the sex stuff ;) ALSO ???? thank you for 200 followers??? i will be posting more spicy things in the coming days as thank you’s!
Shingen tugs on your hand in front of a strange store. The windows are tinted slightly, but the sign says they are open.
“What’s this place?” he asks, nodding at the front door.
You can’t help but giggle when you realize what it is. “A sex shop.”
         “A what?”
“Like for toys and things to use while having sex,” you explain briefly. It dawns on you that Shingen likely did not know about these things – you didn’t tell him much about it because every other time the two of you spent sleepless nights together, he wouldn’t need to pleasure you with anything more than he was already equipped with.
“Toys?” He raises an eyebrow, but then finds a dangerous smirk. “Will it make my goddess louder at night~?”
You slap his arm playfully and cover your face to hide the blush dusting your cheeks. “Okay, fine, we can go inside.”
Shingen is in awe when he sees all the different toys. It’s rather funny to see him be so amazed, but then for him to see the row of multi-colored dildos and to choke on his words. “They castrate men and harvest their–” he swallows, “you said they were toys!”
“Shingen! No– haha!” You pick up one from the display and his face contorts into a disgusted frown. “It’s plastic. Companies make molds of people’s dicks and then mass produce them for people who don’t have a partner.”
He still is not completely convinced and tries to back away. You click your tongue and pull him to the vibrators. “Do you want to try one of these?”
After a moment, Shingen points at a hot pink wand vibrator. “But what exactly do they… do?”
You press the power button and it starts vibrating immediately. “It’s for stimulation. I have something like this, but smaller,” you tell him.
         “Does larger mean stronger?”
You shake your head, “Not all the time. But in this case, yes. The one I have is kind of weak.”
Shingen lowers his voice as his hand lands on your hip. “You didn’t tell me you had one~ why haven’t I gotten to use it on you?” He nips your ear gently. “And furthermore, it seems like you’re quite the expert on self-pleasuring… do you think maybe you could teach me some of your rituals?”
You’re blushing again, so you grab a boxed version of the vibrator Shingen chose. “If you stop embarrassing me I might-”
(Two weeks later)
You’ve had a long day and just wanted to cuddle Shingen to relieve the stress of working so hard. Throwing your purse onto the couch and kicking your heels off, you stroll into the kitchen, hoping to find your boyfriend cooking dinner or perhaps already eating. He’s not there, even though you thought you heard a voice.
You hear a muffled sound coming from behind you. It piques your interest, so you walk down the hallway to your shared bedroom. The door is closed, but you can see through a small silver. The sight makes you weak to your knees, and you can’t help but watch as a heat grows between your legs.
Shingen is sitting upright on the bed, holding the vibrator to the base of his cock. Small beads of sweat drip down his forehead and exposed torso, making hundreds of dirty thoughts run rampant through your mind. You bite your tongue when he releases a low moan, followed by your name. His voice drips with lust, causing your breath to hitch and to lean on the door slightly. It creaks, and Shingen looks up at you.
You’re expecting him to say something comedic like, How do you like the view from there? or I hope you plan on joining me… but instead, he turns a deep shade of red and tries to hide. He’s embarrassed? For getting off?
Without hesitating a moment longer, you stride across the room and take the toy from his hand and pull him to the edge of the bed.
“H-Hey-” he murmurs softly, unsure of what else to say. Usually, Shingen claims the dominant position in bed, but you know that it’s a complete turn on when you occasionally take charge. “I didn’t hear you come in.” You love how flushed he is – he’s acting borderline submissive because he was not expecting you to find him.
You wrap a hand around his stiff cock and give him a few slow pumps, coaxing deep moans from the back of his throat as you pull back his foreskin. “You found the toy~?” Your voice is dangerously playful and your eyes are half lidded. “Why are you shy?”
Shingen tries to give you a smirk, but instead bites his lip as you press your finger to the tip of his blushing cock. When he opens his mouth to reply, you run your tongue along his length, sending shivers through your body and to your core. Teasing him always made you beg to be touched, but this time, you wanted to torture Shingen as much as possible.
“I missed you, my angel… hhhh…” Groans fall from the tip of his tongue, so you hold his hold his cock with one hand and turn the vibrator to the lowest setting before placing at the base of his member. “A-Angel!” he cries out, shifting slightly on the bed and closing his eyes slightly.
You click your tongue and drag the head of the vibrator along his length at a painfully slow pace. “You’re pretty cute when you’re flustered like this,” you tease, turning the power of the vibrator up a notch, “Have you played around with this on full power?”
He shakes his head and straightens his posture, his hand coming forward to rest on your cheek.
Rolling your tongue around the tip of his cock, you press the vibrator harder to him, making his muscles contract and his smile to go rigid. “Tell me you like it~” you mewl, saliva dripping from your mouth to his skin.
His dark eyes meet yours as he vocalizes the pleasure for you. “My angel… you are a miracle worker…”
The sweet talk causes butterflies to dance in your stomach. Precum weeps from Shingen’s throbbing cock, making you smirk with joy as you take him into your mouth. Instead of forcing his cock to the back of your throat, you leave enough room for the vibrator to stimulate his shaft further. Consumed by ecstasy, Shingen throws his head back to let out a particularly deep moan, making you hum with satisfaction against his cock. With every passing moment, the precum in your mouth thickens and makes the heat between your legs grow hotter. You turn the vibrator on the highest setting, skipping a few intermediate ones all together, and close your legs tightly. Watching him shift and contort because of you makes you very happy – so happy that you wrap your tongue around his cock and suck on him, coaxing him to climax for you.
“My goddess… if you keep doing that, surely… I’ll unravel right before your beautiful eyes,” he pants with a hoarse voice. “Nghh..hhhh!” He runs a hand through his sweaty hair, pushing it back slightly only to have his bangs curl back over his forehead, obscuring his lustful eyes from your gaze.
You pull off of his cock, and when your mouth disconnects from his member, a lewd pop sounds. The vibrator is making your hand cramp, but you know it won’t be much longer before he cums – his muscle tremble from being stimulated so much. You press your tongue flat and perpendicular to his cock and give his shaft a few hard pumps. Shingen immediately groans, but the sound is caught in his throat. Semen lands on your tongue and face as he cums and moans your name, his voice sounding like honey. Licking the side of your mouth, you turn the vibrator off and swallow the contents of your mouth as Shingen watches with wide eyes.
He leans forward and cups your face, pulling you upwards to kiss you deeply. Lust makes his eyelids hang heavy, giving him a sultry look in his eyes. Shingen may have had his fun, but his cock is still hard and now wants you.
Shingen’s hands fly to your jeans, unbuttoning and tugging them down swiftly as to relieve you of as many layers as possible in as little time needed. As you kick them off of your feet, you pull your shirt over your head and throw it off somewhere into the room. You’re too distracted by his wandering hands to care where it landed. Not long after, Shingen throws your bra in the opposite direction and kisses your chest frantically. His large hands leave warm traces wherever his fingertips pass over your skin.
When his mouth disconnects from the skin between your breasts, you look down and see a generously-sized hickey forming. “Shingen!”
He only smirks dangerously, wrapping his arms around your waist before pulling on your ass. “Yes, my goddess?”
You grip his jaw and throw your leg over his thigh, rubbing yourself against his cock. His groans vibrate his throat, making you giddy. You understand why Shingen likes to be in control – it is fun to dominate the situation. You discard the vibrator on the bed next to you, determined to continue without it.
His cock pulsates against your slit, but you push him down to tease him more. Shingen complies happily, pulling a pillow under his head. You straddle him, grinding against his muscles until he grips your hips and pushes you closer to his dick. Rubbing your palm against his cock, you smile and tease him. “Shingen~ Do you want it?” You press your finger to the tip of his cock and watch him squirm.
         “You want me to beg?”
Your eyes glint with ferocity. “Yes… beg for me, Shingen.”
He sits up, his muscles tensing under you, and leans close to you, fondling your breasts. “My beautiful goddess, please… let me feel you…” Shingen nips your ear, reclaiming some of his dominance. “If you want me to moan for you, I will please you the best I can.”
Exhaling shakily, you bite your lip and position his cock before sitting down on him. Shingen’s hands land on your hips, pushing you down as you ride him. Moans drip from his lips, and you bend down to drag your tongue across his abs.
Shingen leans his head back when you pinch his nipples, gasping in surprise before a blush covers his cheeks. You grind back and forth, his cock rubbing against the deepest parts of you. His flush expression deepens when his tip hits the spot that makes your vision go fuzzy.
“(Y/n)...” he moans, looking up at you. “My goddess…”
You pinch his nipples, twisting them slightly, and he digs his fingers into your thighs. The knot grows tighter in your abdomen, so you start bouncing up and down on his cock, the tip hitting your g-spot each time. Pleasure overwhelms you, and your hair falls over your face. Shingen sits up, wrapping his arms around you after tucking your hair back. He thrusts into you as you run your hands up and down his muscular back.
Your words catch in your throat as you climax, the knot unravelling as you feel his warmth fill you. Panting heavily, you press your forehead to his, sweat matting his hair against your skin. Shingen traces circles on your shoulder blades and kisses you deeply. His hands leave your skin so that he may cup your face instead.
“You truly are… amazing, my love.”
All of the confidence has left your body, and you fall against him, now a blushing mess.
“I think that I should let you catch me more often. Especially if it ends like this~”

Young Love in Veronaville
DISCLAIMER: Given the title, it should be rather obvious that this essay is about shipping. As someone who has been part of a plethora of fandoms over the years, I know from experience that this topic has a tendency to be a very slippery slope. As such, there are two things I want to make clear before we go any further. First of all, I do not ship all of the ships that are covered in this essay. That being said, I tried my best to be as objective as possible when it comes to analyzing everything despite any biases I may have. Second of all, just because I don’t cover your ship here doesn’t make it any less valid. Most of the things I’m going to look at in this essay are from a narrative perspective rather than an interpretive or personal perspective (with minimal exceptions). With that out of the way, I hope you enjoy!~

Obligatory Disclaimer Word Count: 157 words Essay Word Count: 2,246 words Obligatory Thank You Word Count: 126 words Total Word Count: 2,529 words
Most of the premade families in The Sims 2 have ties to other households in their home neighborhood. This statement is also true in Veronaville where two-of-the-three premade extended families are involved in a generation-spanning feud, while the other household gets along with practically everyone. Much like in other neighborhoods, the relationships among the sims in Veronaville run the gamut in terms of how they can be classified; as there are acquaintances, enemies, friends, family, and romantic interests.
While The Sims 2 is essentially a sandbox game where you get to decide how your sims live their lives, the developers have structured the premade neighborhoods so that some of these relationships are easier to achieve than others. This is especially true of the romantic relationships, as it takes much less work and effort to have sims already romantically involved with one another engage in romantic interactions than those who aren’t. When playing Veronaville for the first time, the romantic relationships are mostly set-in-stone among the adults and elders, with most being either married or widowed with no sign of moving on. The teenagers, on the other hand, are different story due to both their youth and the limited pool of interactions they can engage in while playing a mod-free game.
Out of the seven premade teens in Veronaville, the developers offer the player quite a few prospects for most of them. To keep things organized, I will go through each suggested couple individually, from the most obvious to one that could happen should the player wish to go along with it. In each example, I will go over two things: their relationship in the game, and any parallels these potential couples may have to a work by William Shakespeare.
Romeo Monty & Juliette Capp
Romeo and Juliette's relationship is at the center of the Veronaville narrative, making them the most obvious choice for each other within this batch of crazy kids. Upon first playing the Capp Manor, you will notice that Juliette already has a crush on Romeo and wants to go steady with him. This want is easy to achieve, as Romeo is practically guaranteed to accept. The Monty Ranch's tutorial involves Romeo inviting Juliette over for a make-out session, and Juliette is also practically guaranteed to accept both his invitation and his advances.
Given the names of both sims, it should be obvious to anyone that the Shakespeare couple closest to these two would be the titular characters from Romeo & Juliet. These similarities are reflected in not only the neighborhood’s established narrative but also in both of their first and last names. There isn’t much else for me to explain here, as the parallels between both couples are far from subtle.
Puck Summerdream & Hermia Capp
While Romeo and Juliette are the most obvious pre-established pairing among the Veronaville teens, Puck and Hermia are not too far behind. Upon first playing the Capp Manor, a look at Hermia’s relationship panel will show that she has romantic feelings for both Mercutio Monty and Puck Summerdream, but a closer look shows that she has a higher relationship with Puck than she does Mercutio. Should you choose to follow the tutorial at the Summerdream home and have Puck initiate his first kiss with Hermia (which is something both sims want), they will be caught by a jealous Mercutio, solving any love triangle these three were a part of.
While both of these sims are based on two characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, there are some differences between how they are portrayed in the game and in the play. Unlike Romeo and Juliette, whose roles are relatively unchanged, there were definitely some alterations that were made in Puck and Hermia’s case. While Hermia’s transition between stage and Sims is largely left intact, Puck’s role in The Sims 2 is more akin to that of Lysander when it comes to him being Hermia’s intended love-interest.
In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hermia is caught between two men, her choice (Lysander) and her father’s choice (Demetrius). At the end of the play, however, she ends up with Lysander due to some fairy magic.
Mercutio Monty & Miranda Capp
If you decide to follow the tutorial at the Summerdream’s house and put Hermia with Puck, you still have another easy choice for Mercutio in the form of Miranda Capp. While Miranda’s feelings for Mercutio are rather one-sided upon first playing Goneril’s family, a few romantic interactions between the two can easily fix that problem due to already having a good rapport with each other.
Unlike other examples, the Mercutio/Miranda coupling seems to have its roots in two of Shakespeare’s plays. If you look at them with the aforementioned love triangle in mind, then these two serve as a parallel to A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s Demetrius and Helena. Mercutio, like Demetrius, starts the game with feelings for Hermia, while Miranda’s feelings for Mercutio are unrequited. However, much like how Demetrius and Helena ultimately ended up together, Mercutio and Miranda could easily become a couple should you have them pursue a romantic relationship.
Without the love triangle in mind, Mercutio and Miranda’s relationship in TS2 could very well be a nod to The Tempest’s Ferdinand/Miranda coupling. In The Tempest, Miranda is the daughter of Prospero, the exiled Duke of Milan; while Ferdinand is the son of Alonso, Prospero's usurper. Despite the tension between their fathers, Ferdinand and Miranda fall for each other over the course of the play and are married by the end. Mercutio and Miranda's situation is somewhat similar, with the former being a Monty and the latter a Capp; however, any marriage between them would have to wait in a mod-free game due to both starting off as teenagers.
Mercutio Monty & Hermia Capp
As I said before, The Sims 2 is a sandbox game. While you could follow the tutorial at the Summerdream house and put Puck and Hermia together, you could also choose to forgo their first kiss and stick Hermia with Mercutio instead.
By taking the love triangle involving these two and Puck into account, this coupling seems to mirror Demetrius and Hermia from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While not as unrequited in this case, the fact that Hermia seems to favor Puck upon first glance seems to place Mercutio into the role of the romantic-false-lead. However, Mercutio could easily become the Lysander and Puck the Demetrius should you choose to pair Hermia off with the former instead.
Romeo Monty & Hermia Capp
Unlike the other examples on this list, Romeo and Hermia do not have any sort of romantic feelings for one another upon first playing their lots. In fact, the only indication the developers give us regarding these two is that Romeo has a want to flirt with Hermia upon first playing the Monty Ranch.
If we look at them from a Shakespearean point of view, it’s quite easy to see them as being a parallel of Romeo and Rosaline (Juliet’s cousin and Romeo's never-seen first love). Despite being what is referred to as a “ghost” character, Rosaline is the only female character outside of Juliet that Romeo is shown to have feelings for. This is paralleled in TS2 because Hermia is the only sim outside of Juliette that Romeo has a want to flirt with when first playing his lot.
What about Tybalt?
Six of the seven playable teens in Veronaville have at least one pre-established romantic interest upon first playing their households. The exception to this rule is Juliette and Hermia's older brother Tybalt. While you are able to break up one of these couples and replace any of the girls with Tybalt (he cannot have a relationship with any of them in normal gameplay since he's related to all three girls by blood); the fact remains that the game itself does not hint that this is something you’re supposed to do.
That being said, I do not think we should start any sort of debate here regarding any Veronaville resident’s sexuality, as that could be a topic all on its own. However, according to both SimPE, and a (mostly accurate) list I found on Tumblr, Tybalt is pre-programmed as having a slight preference for females. As a result, it’s unlikely that the developers intended for him to be romantically involved with Romeo, Puck, or Mercutio due to both his pre-established gender preference and the zeitgeist of the mid-2000s (mind you, this is coming from a Tycutio shipper). With Tybalt’s default sexuality in mind, let’s take a look at why he doesn't have a romantic partner preprogrammed into the game.
First of all, Shakespeare’s Tybalt also lacks an obvious romantic interest. Sure, he has some sexual tension with both Mercutio and Romeo, but both instances are left up to interpretation. Much of his banter with Mercutio is laden with sexual innuendos; while the most obvious instance of his tension with Romeo occurs during his final scene before being killed. In addition to Mercutio and Romeo, the Baz Luhrmann film adaptation implies that he is involved in an affair with Lady Capulet (his aunt). That being said, given how the game is programmed, it is impossible for Tybalt Capp to do the same with either Goneril or Regan in a mod-free game (if there even is a mod for that at all).
Personally, I think part of the reason Tybalt Capp doesn’t have an obvious love interest preprogrammed into the game can be found in his biography. Should you look at Tybalt's biography, you will see that he is “proud” to carry the Capp name. While carrying on his family legacy seems like something Tybalt would be keen on doing given his Capp pride, lineage is shown to be carried down the Capp line through the mother.
This hypothesis regarding Tybalt’s biography is further supported when we look at the other premade families in Veronaville. Should Tybalt wish to potentially keep his Capp name and possibly pass it down to his offspring, he would probably have to marry a girl from a patrilineal family should the player choose to maintain the status-quo. Unfortunately for Tybalt, Bianca and Beatrice Monty are the only premade female sims in Veronaville to fit that description. While it is definitely possible to match Tybalt up with either of these sims, doing so betrays one of Tybalt’s other pre-established character traits: hating the Montys. In addition, the only non-Monty premade female sims in Veronaville who could serve as an option for Tybalt are Titania and Bottom Summerdream, both of whom are members of another matrilineal family. Should the player pair Tybalt up with either sim and choose to stick to the status quo, he would lose the Capp surname upon marriage, rendering him unable to pass it down to another generation.
While the developers may not have chosen to give Tybalt a romantic story arc, that doesn’t mean he’s destined to remain single forever. Like I said before, TS2 is a sandbox game, meaning you get to choose how he lives his life regardless of the game’s programming and presented narrative. While Tybalt’s default gender preference shows that he prefers female sims, having him romantically interact with male sims can easily change that (since sexuality runs on a spectrum in TS2 rather than being fixed). As for Tybalt’s anti-Monty views, they can also be disregarded should you put the work into having him (and possibly the partner of your choice) make amends. However, if you decide romance isn’t for Tybalt and instead make him a literal prince of cats, that’s also completely valid. Like with all ships in TS2, there is no right or wrong answer on how to play the game. Ultimately, all ships and interpretations are valid because you, not the developers, are the one who decides how the story plays out.
Final Thoughts
I will be the first to admit that I do not ship all of the implied pairings listed in this essay. Much like with other essays I have posted, as well as those that are still in progress, I always try to cast aside any biases I may have in order to show as many available options and interpretations as possible. In doing so, I feel like I can at least offer something to those of you whose views on Veronaville differ from my own.
Naturally, I always refer to outside material in these essays in order to back up the claims. There is often a connection to be found, even if they don't align with my interpretation. I think this is especially true when it comes to the relationships between the premades, as many of them connect to Shakespeare or other relevant sources.
I wanted to keep things simple for this essay, so I decided to give more of an overview of all the potential couples. While I could have picked apart every little detail, some of these relationships play a large part in Veronaville’s narrative that I believe they may need to be looked at separately from this particular entry. Many of Veronaville’s couples, whether they are mentioned in this essay or not, tend to have multiple layers in terms of both their dynamics and their Maxis-created story arcs. With that in mind, you will definitely see some, or possibly all of these couples covered more at length in the future.
Thank you so much for reading this essay! I hope you enjoyed even though this particular entry is nowhere near as long as my previous two. In fact, I think the entries on the Feud and the Tragedies will probably be the longest ones I’ll post on here; that being said, I do have a multipart project that I’m currently working on right now that I hope to post soon.
As for next week’s entry, I’m thinking I might make it a two-parter since the essays work better as a unit. If I can get both done in time, I plan to post the first next Saturday and the second next Sunday. Once again, thank you so much for reading, I really hope you enjoyed!

introducing,
- ( rome flynn, cis-male ) do you know who THEODORE KINGSLEIGH is? yeah, they moved in FLOOR C about 1 YEAR ago. the 23 year old is a MED STUDENT. i heard some talk in the lobby that they’re +COMPASSIONATE and +TRUSTWORTHY, but honestly i think HE can be -UNCONVENTIONAL and -RECKLESS. all in all, they’re a real ANOMALOUS.
waddup, peeps ?? i’m late to the intro party as always, but this tiny bean goes by the name of rue ( she/her ) and i’ll be playing soft boy™, theodore kingsleigh. he’s pretty much a new faceclaim for me with an old character’s background. however, rome has recently become my forever fave, therefore i’m so excited to have the opportunity to play him !! if you would like to hmu for plots / scream about connections all day long, please give this a like and i’ll come wiggling into your ims ( or discord; find me at mlkhoney#2233 ) shortly after. under the cut, you’ll find a brief summary about theo and his life. also all my wcs are listed over here if you wanna check that out as well. his stats can be found here too. can’t wait to start interacting !!
Tumblr media
+ disclaimer: very slight talks of cancer and mental health are below. read at your discretion.
layer one: the stats.
name. theodore alexander kingsleigh.
alias. people usually just call him by theodore but sometimes theo make an appearance.
title. over time, he has proudly deemed himself an obsessive plant lover, artistic nutcase, or one of the missing dead poets society members.
name meaning. his true significance of his name means God’s gift.
age. twenty-three years old.
gender identity. cis-male.
pronouns. he/him.
sexual orientation. predominately panromantic demisexual. it isn’t so much so that theo is completely disinterested in sex (he’s got a perfectly good libido, thank you very much), he just doesn’t find himself sexually attracted to people based on physical appearance or initial impressions. instead he finds personality, intellect, and existing emotional attachment considerably more compelling. the idea of intimacy with somebody he’s not close with rather repulses him.
current residence. seattle.
religion. he was raised roman catholic but converted to spiritual agnosticism when he was fifteen. he views that universal ethics and love are far more important than claims about any deity and trivialize the arguments supporting or rejecting such claims. to theo, it doesn’t matter which religion someone might follow, nor does it matter whether or not someone believes in god. what matters is what someone does, not what they believe. he has his parents’ full support in his switch even though the rest of his family practices catholism.
spoken languages. spanish (fluent/main), english (fluent/2nd main), french, and a bit of chinese.
education. graduated with a bachelors of science in human physiology as well as a bachelors of fine arts in illustration and photography. currently a medical student working on his masters.
layer two: the story.
- so this is my baby boy, theodore  kingsleigh and i love him sm ?? he usually goes by theodore, but on occasion people call him theo but he doesn’t care what people call him as long as it’s kind.
- theo was born in london, england to both loving and supportive parents named james and adriana. he lived there until he was six years old when his family moved to denver because his parents, who are both marine biologists, were located for work.
- his parents had him when they were both young.
- unlike his older siblings, theo wasn’t a bastard though. by the time he was born, his parents had already married.
- growing up, he had and still does, have a great relationship with his parents. with his childhood consisting nothing more than love and devotion from his parents, theo had nothing to complain about. his parents loved him dearly, whose pure heart  and open-mindedness they helped to cultivate. they encouraged theo’s belief in extraordinary things and hoped he had carried it throughout his life growing up. his parents had always made him promise to have courage and be kind to others, for—as they explained to him—kindness has power, and that they would see him through all the trials that life could offer, in life and death.
- cancer/mental illness tw: when he was thirteen, his mother had been diagnosed with cervical cancer. upon hearing the news, theo’s whole world clasped. not only was he at a pivotal stage in his life where everything was changing and becoming more stressful ( becoming a teenager, starting high school, going through puberty ), one of the most important people in his life had be claimed by the deadly disease altogether. so many thoughts and feelings were going through his mind at the time, that he ran himself physically sick and had experienced his first panic attack. he has since been medically diagnosed with panic disorder. thankfully the cells on his mother’s cervix were diagnosed at precancerous stage and the doctors were able to treat it because it developed and spread. however, that didn’t and doesn’t stop theo from being in a constantly state of panic every time his mother so much as feels pain or coughs due to irrelevant reasons. the entire year had changed him and his family for a while.
- he’s the youngest of three children: natalia, christopher, and theodore. his old brother, who is three years older than him and their relationship, however, is a bit estranged. as much as he loves his brother and wishes they could see eye-to-eye, sometimes they have a tendency to butt heads often. whether that might mean your typical sibling arguments or full-on blown out fights, they just can’t seem to see get along.
- most people would describe theo as the altruistic. despite being in a world where there’s hatred and suffering, theo declares himself independent and strong-willed by remaining kind-hearted and self-loving, not allowing the bitterness surrounding his life to overtake him and morph him into someone as cruel as the world seems to be every day. he makes the most of his life by remaining optimistic of the possibilities of a brighter future. but besides that, he’s also witty and sarcastic. he is unafraid to stand up for himself when he feels he’s in the right–or at least, attempt to do so. and although he strives to contain his optimism aura, he can fall into fits of frustration and annoyance quite often.
- he’s also super quiet and shy. he loves to make friends but because of his quiet complex, he usually has trouble speaking up and making his voice heard. he tends to become flustered a lot too when he can’t express his emotions; which he has trouble doing anyway when he’s not flustered.
- theo is capable of enduing tremendous hardship. though he may not handle difficulty in the healthiest or best way, often repressing emotion, he mostly like emerges on the other side. he doesn’t know how to express his emotions in a diplomatic way, but rather fumbles it all up and starts to ramble. rarely opens up because of this.
- went to college at university of denver as an undergrad. graduated with a bachelors of science in human physiology as well as a bachelors of fine arts in illustration and photography.
- moved to settle for his masters and has loved the small town ever since.
- currently in medical school to get his M.D.
- to put it plan and simple theodore is an art ho ( he’s even going to school for it ). theo always loved anything artistic. even when he was little, he would go around with his disposable camera and take pictures of everything and then take to paper to draw of all the things he had taken pictures of as well.
- he’s like a hippie dippy child of the universe. no joke. no seriously, his place at home is full of sensual shit and art. it’s getting out of hand and somebody needs stop him soon.
- he strongly believes that art is an umbrella term that relates to expressing of oneself ( not just through photography and painting ) and that everyone has the freedom to express themselves however they please. because of his beliefs, he chooses to break gender roles like bread and wears whatever the fuck he wants because yolo.
-  his appearance pretty much represents his hippie dippy lifestyle with him wearing all sorts of cute hipster shit. he’s clothes are v flow-y but don’t let that fool you. he doesn’t miss the opportunity to represent his upper-middle class within his style, so he does dress to impress, let me tell you ( he’s a fashion ho too ). his hair color changes sometimes too depending on his mood but it’s generally never too eccentric.

Summary:
After the stunt they pulled at the party, Tony has taken to referring to Loki and Steve as “clone boyfriends”, a nickname which rapidly morphed into an inside joke amongst the Avengers. The sequel to this fic, and things make more sense if you read that one first.
Full chapter below:
It’s been months since Steve had last set foot in New Asgard. Already, the place looks so different- more like an actual town. It’s the one-year anniversary of the Asgardians’ arrival and settlement on Earth, and Thor had decided to celebrate their progress by throwing a festival. The Avengers were invited, though only about half of them took up on the offer- the rest remained in New York to hold the fort, so to speak. And due to the nature of the event, government officials from all over the world have also been invited.
Shortly after arriving, Steve and his friends split up to do their own thing; Tony had made a beeline towards the food stalls, Clint went off to try all the games and activities available, leaving Steve and Natasha to stroll aimlessly together in the bustle of the crowd, avoiding reporters as much as possible and stopping whenever something caught their eye.
Steve is sipping on a sample of Asgardian mead when he suddenly feels his phone vibrate. He fumbles for it, while feeling all too aware of Natasha’s curious gaze on him.
He raises his eyebrows when he sees that it’s a message from Loki.
Steve opens the single attached image and sure enough, it’s an extremely unflattering picture of himself mid-blink, cropped from what appears to be an interview directly following the Battle of New York.
Steve rolls his eyes.
Me [11:42am]
Seriously, where do you keep finding these? I swear you’re gonna run out someday.
A few seconds later, his phone chimes again.
Loki [11:42am]
I won’t :)
Steve shakes his head, but he can’t help the amusement tugging at the corners of his lips.
Me [11:43am]
Btw we’ve been here for a while now but I still haven’t seen you. Where are you?
Loki [11:43am]
I know
Don’t worry, you’ll see me soon :)
“Who are you texting? Your clone boyfriend?”
Steve sighs and looks up to meet Natasha’s deceptively innocent expression.
It’s all Tony’s fault- he was the one who started throwing that nickname around after the party. The teasing only intensified when Loki had somehow acquired Steve’s number and started messaging him with it. It had taken Steve an embarrassing length of time to realise that Tony was just being Tony, and he wasn’t actually accusing Steve of secretly dating Loki.
At first Natasha and Clint were extremely wary of their former enemy’s attempts to contact Steve, but they slowly withdrew their caution when it turned out that Loki’s messages mostly only consisted of unflattering still images of Steve and miscellaneous petty complaining.
“I’m so mad at myself right now,” Clint had said, a month after Loki first messaged Steve. “That guy mind-controlled me. And yet I’m finding it hard to stay pissed at him because he’s just so fucking hilarious. ”
Because Steve’s life is a cosmic joke, Natasha and Clint both picked up Tony’s stupid nickname, and one by one the other Avengers started using the stupid nickname too, the traitors. It even managed to spread all the way to Norway; Bruce and Thor found it hilarious. Loki, for his part, seems to find the nickname rather childish and beneath him. So like Steve, he mostly ignored it.
Despite Loki’s cryptic message, Steve doesn’t manage to see him anywhere for awhile yet. Instead, he and Natasha stumble across the archery competition, where they join the crowd to cheer for Clint until he wins. The three of them then wind up in a nalebinding workshop, and they all attempt to knit their own little patches of cloth. It isn’t as hard as Steve had expected, and he leaves the tent feeling pretty proud of the thumb-sized square he had made.
Around mid-afternoon, it becomes apparent that many of the festival attendees are congregating in the direction of the main stage. Out of curiosity and for a lack of anything better to do, they follow the crowd, and arrive just in time to see the curtains rise on a performance titled “Ragnarok”.
“Oh hey! There you guys are.”
Steve turns around to see Tony stride over with his hands in his pockets, followed unexpectedly by Brunnhilde, who waves at them.
“Hey,” grins Clint. “Where’s Bruce and Thor?”
Brunnhilde jerks her chin up at the stage.
“They’re going to be up there soon.”
Sure enough, a blonde man with a huge hammer strides into view, red cape billowing behind him. The people around them start cheering and whooping, but Tony adjusts his sunglasses and squints at the stage.
“He’s got the whole getup going, but surely that’s not our resident God of Thunder?”
Brunnhilde takes a swig from her bottle and lets out a bark of laughter.
“Oh, not him. He’s just an actor. Thor’s also in the play, just not as himself.”
“Who is he, then?” Steve asks.
She gives a lazy smile.
“Oh, you’ll see.”
Steve has to admit, the play is rather impressive for a stage production. Asgardian technology is truly a wonder, and miles ahead of anything they have on Earth when it comes to stage effects. He watches in awe as the old man on the stage, playing the previous King of Asgard, is replaced by Loki in a shower of light. But it barely takes two seconds for him to realise that the Loki on stage is also just an actor.
Just as Steve is beginning to wonder about the whereabouts of the real Loki, Thor and Loki’s secret evil sister suddenly appears in a burst of green light. Her entrance is marked by her completely shattering Thor’s hammer with one hand.
“Kneel before your queen!” she orders, sweeping her arm out and dispersing the remnants of the prop across the stage in a dramatic flourish.
Scattered gasps can be heard throughout the audience, but Steve finds his attention drawn to the woman on stage for different reasons- something about her just feels unexpectedly familiar…
“Hey is it just me or does she look exactly like Wanda, but with black hair?” Clint mutters.
Brunnhilde nearly chokes on her beer.
“That-” she coughs. “That’s Loki. In his female form.”
“What.”
Brunnhilde is laughing so hard at their shocked reactions that they get shushed by nearby members of the crowd. She was the only one amongst them who had any idea that Loki could even do that, though Steve supposes that it’s rather obvious in hindsight. He already knows from firsthand experience that Loki can shift into an exact copy of another person, so changing genders isn’t that much of a stretch.
Loki seems to be having a lot of fun playing the role of the villain, if the way he (she?) is hamming it up is any indication. They watch him dramatically banish Actor Thor and Loki to a new setting called Sakaar, then skewer all of the soldiers on the stage with blades pulled from seemingly nowhere.
When Sakaar’s ruler, the Grandmaster, is first introduced, the first thing he does is snatch off Actor Thor’s blonde wig and shove him into the gladiator arena. That is when Bruce enters the stage, covered head to toe in green body paint.
“I had to help him with that,” Brunnhilde comments absently.
Natasha whistles lowly. “That’s a lot of paint. How long did it take?”
“Oh, probably a minute. Took much longer to dry though.”
“Woah,” Tony says. “How?”
Brunnhilde shrugs.
“I pushed him into the tub of paint.”
Steve finds himself thoroughly enjoying the play, even some of the more absurd and over the top elements. At certain points he even finds himself wondering just how far the “based on a true story” label has been stretched, but considering the insanity of his own life, who’s he to judge?
He almost forgets that Thor is also supposed to be in the play, until the final act where Actor Thor and Loki decide to instigate Ragnarok in order to defeat their sister. It takes Steve a while to realise that underneath the makeup and costume, the fire demon gleefully destroying the cardboard recreation of Asgard is actually played by Thor. The play ends with a battle between Thor-as-Surtur and Loki-as-Hela, and Steve has never seen a group of people applaud the destruction of their own home so enthusiastically when the curtains finally close.
As the audience begins to disperse, Brunnhilde leads the Avengers to the backstage area. They arrive to find Bruce and Thor being interviewed by some reporters, but before they are forced to awkwardly stand around and wait until they get noticed and dragged into the interview as well, Loki shows up.
“Well, if it isn’t my favourite heroes,” he drawls. He’s already changed back into his normal appearance. “How did you like the performance?”
“I enjoyed it,” Steve admits with a smile. “Is that what your sister actually looked like?”
“Of course not,” Loki scoffs. “I don’t think any of the Asgardians are ready to see her likeness again so soon. That was just my preferred female form.”
“Did you look anything alike, then?”
“No. We’re not even related.” There’s a hint of mirth dancing in his green eyes. “I’m adopted, remember?”
Before Steve can reply, he’s interrupted by Thor.
“Friends! It’s been a while!” Thor grins. His enthusiasm to see them again is matched only by the volume of his voice.
“Aww man, you just interrupted the reunion between the clone boyfriends,” Tony jokingly whines. “It was getting sweet!”
Thor laughs.
“Sorry about that.” He turns around to where Bruce is still gathering his things. “Banner! We can finally show them the weapons demonstrations now.”
“I’m coming, I’m coming! I just need to wash all this off first,” Bruce calls back, gesturing at his still-green appearance.
“Sure, big guy,” Brunnhilde says, giving his arm a pat. “We’ll wait for you outside.”
They all shuffle out the exit, completely oblivious to the bewildered glances exchanged between the reporters and cameramen who had witnessed the entire exchange.
The next day, on the morning of their flight back to New York, Steve wakes up to a very ominous text from Sam.
Sam [1:13am]
Call me when you’re awake. Get the others too, if they’re up.
Natasha is the only other one awake in their lodge, nursing a fresh cup of coffee in the kitchen. Her expression tightens when Steve shows her Sam’s message.
They huddle around the kitchen table and he puts Sam on speaker.
Sam picks up after the first ring.
“What happened?” Steve says.
“Well good morning to you I guess. Who else am I talking to?”
“Just me,” replies Natasha. “Tony’s probably still in his room and Clint’s not getting up until he’s gone through all of his alarms. What’s the emergency?”
“Weeell…” Sam begins. “This isn’t exactly the type of emergency that we usually deal with. But long story short, some reporter overheard one of you guys refer to Steve and Loki as boyfriends, and. Well.”
Steve blinks. He runs through his memories of yesterday, and groans when he remembers what Tony said backstage after the play. Next to him, Natasha begins furiously typing away at her phone.
“Oh god,” Steve mutters. Sam makes a sympathetic noise.
Natasha exhales loudly.
Before Steve can ask, she shoves the results of her Google search at him:

“Oh god, ” Steve repeats.
“Yup. I know you don’t go on your social media accounts that often but I think you should avoid them for a bit.”
Steves rubs a hand over his face. Maybe if he presses against his nose firmly enough then he’ll be able to suffocate himself to death and he won’t have to deal with any of this.
“How likely is it to go away if I just ignore it?” Steve asks, voice muffled by his palm.
He’s half-joking, but he immediately feels Natasha’s incredulous gaze on him. Sam’s snort of laughter can be heard on the other end of the line.
“You’re kidding me, right? Look, I’m not that familiar with the media circus but even I know that’s not going to work.”
Steve lets out a hysterical bark of laughter.
“Really? But people have always speculated on whether I was dating Peggy or Bucky. Or both. And if the tabloids are to be believed then every single one of the Avengers have dated each other at least once. What makes this any different?”
“The difference,” Natasha says, “is that they were just that- speculations. So no one took them too seriously. But this time, from the public’s point of view, there’s actual evidence- an inside source. Namely, Tony. And Thor too, I guess, for not disputing it.”
“But that doesn’t-” Steve begins to protest.
“I know,” Sam sighs. “But that’s not how the public sees it. And now all the news outlets are talking about it.”
Going rogue again is starting to sound unreasonably appealing. Steve’s done it before, so it can’t be as bad the second time round, right?
“Alright,” Natasha says. “We’ll call a meeting once we arrive back at the base.”
Steve sighs.
“Yeah, let’s do that.”
Tony chooses that moment to shuffle into the kitchen with a loud yawn.
“What’s this? You guys having a secret meeting while I was still in bed? Rude.”
“Have you checked the news yet?” Natasha asks instead.
“News always comes after coffee,” Tony declares while fiddling with the coffee machine. “Why? We don’t need to suit up or anything do we?”
“Nope,” Sam replies. “You can worry about it later when you come back. You need to leave soon for your flight anyway, right?”
“Uh…” Steve glances at the clock next to the fridge. “Yeah. Talk to you soon.”
The call ends, and Tony does indeed check the news after the first sip of his coffee.
Which he promptly sprays back into the mug.
Steve wrinkles his nose at the droplet which landed on his elbow.
“Ho- holy shit,” Tony chokes. “I can’t fucking believe this.”
He tries to say more, but he’s laughing so hard that nothing else comes out coherent.
Steve sighs and turns to Natasha. Predictably, she’s no help at all.
“As much fun as this is,” she says, eyes twinkling, “I have an ass to kick out of bed right now.”
She gets up and leaves, and Steve suspects that she probably meant what she said literally.
Since Tony is still bursting into fits of giggles every time he so much as glances in Steve’s direction, Steve is left to process his situation by himself.
He absently fiddles with his phone, and he finds himself opening up his message history with Loki. He knows that he has to say something to him- a heads up, at the very least. But after five minutes of typing and erasing the same thing, he simply settles for attaching a link to one of the articles that Natasha had pulled up earlier.
Out of morbid curiosity, Steve reads the articles- including the comments- while waiting at the airport. He finds it bizarre how most people seem more hung up over the idea of him being in a relationship with another man than the fact that it’s with Former Public Enemy Number 1. It’s disappointing, but not unexpected. But it could’ve been worse, he supposes; back in the 40s, even the slightest suspicion that Steve is also attracted to men would’ve meant dealing with a lot more than just having his non-existent love life aired to the world for other people’s entertainment.
The second, slightly more sensible but equally vocal group consists of the people who are still doubting the authenticity of Loki’s status as a reformed criminal. These are the people who are using the scandal as an opportunity to revive the debate on whether the punishment the Asgardian had gotten upon returning to Earth was anything more than a slap on the wrist. After all, could being confined to New Asgard even count as a punishment?
But there was also another surprising group to emerge out of this mess; feeling emboldened by the news that their hero is also part of the LGBT+ community, there has been a wave of people coming out on social media. It’s the only good thing to come out of this mess so far, and Steve genuinely feels bad when he thinks about how disappointed they’ll be when they find out that this was all just a misunderstanding.
It is only after they touch back down on New York that Steve finally receives Loki’s reply.
Loki [3:35am]
Oh my
I didn’t realise we were courting
Why didn’t you tell me?
Me [11:56am]
The reporters overheard Tony’s stupid nickname
And then they got stuck on the “boyfriend” part in “clone boyfriends”
Why
Loki [12:01pm]
The world begins to starve when you don’t feed it a regular dose of scandals
What are you going to do about it? Are you even going to do anything about it?
Me [12:02pm]
I have to. I don’t know what it’ll be yet but we’re holding a meeting with everyone once we get back to HQ.
Will you, Thor and Bruce be free in the next hour or so?
Loki [12:02pm]
You know we can always just go along with it ;)
I’ll ask Thor, but we should be.
Bucky welcomes Steve back with a light punch on the shoulder.
“Twenty four hours,” his best friend deadpans.
“Shut up,” Steve groans, swatting his arm away. “It’s not even my fault this time.”
“Is that a new record?” Sam asks with a grin.
“Nope. That one’s gotta be the time when I went to get ice-cream, then turned around to see him get shoved at a trash can. So maybe ten minutes.”
Steve feels heat rise in his cheeks.
“That never happened!” he tries to protest, but Sam’s howling laughter drowns out his words.
Inside, Wanda and Vision are already seated in the meeting room while Rhodey is setting up the holographic call to New Asgard.
“This has got to be the weirdest reason we’ve held a meeting, ever,” Rhodey mutters as they wait for the call to connect. When it finally does, the holographic forms of Thor, Bruce and Loki flicker into view.
“Before we start,” Steve says, addressing them directly, “has Loki told you guys why we’re having this meeting?”
“Oh, yeah,” Thor replies. “Can’t you just tell everyone the truth?”
Sam sighs.
“That’s definitely an option, but we also need to account for the fact that there are already people trying to get Steve to give up the shield.” At Thor’s miffed expression, he quickly adds, “Because they don’t like the idea of him dating a guy.”
If anything, Thor looks even more confused, and just the slightest bit indignant. Bucky snorts.
“Yeah, right. He’s more likely to repaint the shield rainbow.”
Bruce frowns.
“That bad? Already?”
“Yep- bad enough that even our good ol’ President’s commented on it, apparently,” Clint suddenly pipes up, finally looking up from his phone.
All at once, everyone else except Thor and Loki groans. Thor looks bewildered at their synchronised dismay, while Loki’s eyebrows lift in barely concealed amusement.
“And what did this President of yours say?” Loki asks, in a tone a tad too light to be genuine.
Tony looks up at the ceiling.
“FRIDAY?”
FRIDAY obediently pulls up the clip, and Steve almost groans again out of instinct the moment he sees the President’s face.
“The fake news media has gone too far this time. Now they’re slandering Captain America and making stuff up!”
There’s a brief pause as the audience in the footage erupts with agreement. Meanwhile, nearly everyone in the meeting is exchanging shocked looks.
“Am I hearing correctly or is he actually right for once?” Vision muses.
“I know a lot of gay people and I think it’s great, but I’m a traditionalist man. And Captain America is a true American man who’s done a lot for this great country. He stands for the traditional values of America, not the nonsense that the fake news media has been saying about him. They should be ashamed of themselves, for defiling our national icon like that.”
The clip ends there, and the room stays silent as everyone processes what they just heard.
Rhodey shakes his head.
“Yeah, nevermind.”
Steve finds it unsurprising that the President falls under the group of people who are stuck on the idea of Captain America dating another man. Though he’d honestly expected a little more outrage regarding it being Loki, a former enemy responsible for the dozens of deaths in New York. There’s nothing particularly unexpected about the President and his supporters having skewed priorities, but for some reason this is the reaction which sets off the truest, deepest part of him- the scrappy kid who tried to fight against the unfairness of the world even when all he had were his bare fists.
The anger swirling in Steve’s stomach is beginning to make him feel nauseous.
Across from him, Tony sighs heavily and runs a hand through his hair.
“I’m sorry. This is all kind of my fault. Look, let me lend you my PR team for this- they have experience dealing with me, so this should be a piece of cake for them.”
Steve furrows his brows.
“What would they need from me then?”
“Eh, nothing too complicated- I think they’ll just get you to make a public statement and apologise for the misunderstanding. Just y’know, explain that the whole clone boyfriends thing is just a joke amongst friends that got misunderstood by a third party, how you and Loki are definitely not dating, but you fully support the LGBT+ community.”
Steve bites his lip as he considers the option. It’s fairly reasonable, he supposes.
But it doesn’t feel enough.
“Is… there something else you can also say?” Wanda speaks up reluctantly. “Because at the moment it feels like we’re admitting that the President is right, and…” She trails off and bites her lip, looking visibly uncomfortable.
“Yeah it does, doesn’t it,” Rhodey sighs.
While everyone else begins murmuring suggestions, Steve is silently contemplating his situation. It’s just as Wanda said- it may sound petty, but the last thing Steve wants to do is admit that the President and his ilk are technically right, albeit for the wrong reasons. He’s seen the way the President and his Administration have abused their power, time and time again, taking away what little the LGBT+ community have gained. He’s seen that amidst all the hatred and scepticism at his mistaken relationship with Loki, there is a visible part of the community which is cautiously delighted at the news that someone they look up to is one of them.
Tony’s solution… it isn’t bad, but it feels too close to admitting defeat for Steve’s comfort. He wants to do something that will tell the President and his supporters to fuck off and stop using Captain America as an anti-gay symbol. Steve has never put much thought into his own sexuality, partly because he never thought he’d live past 30 and also because he knew how unattractive he was as a partner, being so sickly and small. But he knows how important it is to many people, especially those in the LGBT+ community. And he wants them to know, unambiguously, that he’s on their side.
Steve glances at Loki’s direction to see what he’s thinking, but the other man merely looks back at him with a curious gaze. Loki doesn’t seem emotionally invested enough in the situation to really contribute anything, and Steve gets the feeling that he’s waiting for Steve’s decision.
He sighs.
What else can he even do?
He absently spins his phone between his fingers, but then drops it in surprise when he accidentally unlocks it. It opens up to his latest messages with Loki.
Steve blinks at his screen.
Huh.
“Hey, Loki?” he suddenly says, gaining the attention of everyone in the room. “Remember the plan you suggested before the meeting started? Do you still want to go through with it?”
Loki looks a bit startled at being addressed out of the blue, but he quickly recovers and tilts his head questioningly.
Thor narrows his eyes.
“What plan?”
Loki’s eyes finally light up with recognition. A mischievous smile snakes through his lips.
“Of course. I would be more than happy to.”
Tony looks back and forth between them suspiciously.
“No, I’m not liking the look of this. Seriously, what plan?”
“We’re going to go along with it,” Steve says, his resolve hardening with every word. “We’re going to pretend to date in public.”
Stunned silence descends upon the entire room.
“Please tell me you’re joking,” Bucky finally says.
“I’m not.”
“But-” Bruce looks like he’s at a loss for words. “Why?”
“Because I can’t let people like him, ” Steve jabs a finger at the air where the President’s face was mere moments ago. “Use Captain America as a symbol against a community that’s already been ostracised over and over again for no good reason.”
“And you can’t do that with a public statement?” Natasha asks with an unreadable expression.
Steve shakes his head.
“It won’t be enough. Not for people like him.”
“Steve, no, look-” Bucky looks physically pained. “I know how you get when the President’s involved. We’re postponing this meeting to tomorrow because you’re not thinking straight right now.”
“That’s what she said,” Clint mutters, then winces when Natasha kicks him under the table.
Steve clenches his jaw stubbornly.
“I know exactly what I’m doing.”
“Alright, fine,” Sam says. “Say that you do go through with this plan. What exactly are you hoping to get out of it?”
Loki gives Steve a very unsubtle once-over.
“I think that’s quite obvious,” Loki smiles, prompting an appalled look from his brother.
While Steve isn’t in the mood for the usual light hearted teasing, he can’t help but roll his eyes in response.
“If I pretend to date Loki,” he says to everyone else, “then things will continue the way they are- people will no longer get to use Captain America to further their homophobic rhetoric. This may or may not make things better for the LGBT+ community, but it will definitely send a stronger message than a public statement telling the truth.”
“And you don’t care about the damage that it will do to your public image,” Natasha says, making it more of a statement than a question.
“This isn’t just about my reputation- Captain America’s reputation- anymore. I just-” Steve sighs. “I’ve been looking at some of the reactions to the news. At first I was angry at how the misinformation got viral, but then I saw how it led to so many people coming out- they felt like they were able to because their hero did. And I can’t just take that away from them.”
There’s a brief moment of thoughtful silence, until Tony speaks up.
“I know this is slightly off-topic, but it’s kind of important- are you gay, Steve?”
“Tony,” Rhodey says sharply, but Tony quickly holds his hands up in surrender.
“It is important. Because I think that before you go and pretend to be in a gay relationship- such a public one, no less- you should at least have an idea of whether you’re gay or not.”
Steve bites lip and turns his gaze down to the table in front of him.
“I don’t know,” he admits. Now that he thinks about it, he remembers quite a few instances where he’d found his gaze lingering on some men a little too long to be considered polite. But he also knows that what he felt for Peggy was real; he knows that if he had made it home when the war ended, he would’ve felt like the luckiest man alive to marry her, settle down and raise a family with her.
Steve isn’t sure what this means, but it doesn’t matter.
“Loki and I are friends anyway,” he continues, and boy does it feel strange to hear those words out loud, even after all these months. “So I don’t think it’s going to matter. We’re just going to go with it for now, but once people stop paying attention to the relationship we can quietly break up.”
The Avengers reluctantly agree to the plan, and the meeting ends shortly after that. Steve can’t quite believe that he’s going to be faking a relationship with Loki, of all people. But he supposes it’s fitting that if he’s going to fool the whole world, then he’s doing it with the help of the God of Mischief himself.
Belatedly, it hits Steve what it really means, for him to pretend that he and Loki are together. In a relationship.
He has no idea what he’s doing.
The only experience he has under his belt are all the double dates that Bucky had dragged him into, and the almost-not-really thing that he had with Peggy. And look at how well those have turned out.
His inner crisis gets interrupted by a knock on his door.
“Hey.”
Steve looks up from his book he’s long been distracted from to see Natasha leaning against his doorway.
“Hey yourself.” Despite how drained he feels, he can’t help but smile at her presence.
Natasha takes that as the invitation it is to sit next to him on the bed.
Steve sighs and puts his book away.
“You’re not trying to talk me out of it, are you?”
Natasha lets out a disbelieving huff.
“Give me a little more credit. You know I know you better than that. I’m here to tell you a few things before you actually do anything.”
She looks at him, and Steve has to pause at the intensity of her expression.
“You need to remember that this isn’t a mission. No one’s lives are at stake, so you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, even as part of the charade.”
Steve frowns.
“Nat, I don’t think Loki-”
“This isn’t about Loki,” she interrupts. “This is about you and what you’re comfortable with. I’m just saying- all couples are different. Take Wanda and Vision, for example; those two only go as far as hand-holding in public. So if you don’t feel comfortable with certain types of PDA then you need to remember that you don’t have to do it.”
“I…” Steve begins, then swallows. Her concern makes something warm blossom in his chest. “Thanks.”
The corners of Natasha’s lips twitch upwards.
“I just hope for your sake that he’s a better kisser than you are.”
“Hey!”
Me [4:11pm]
Since people think we’re dating, they’re gonna ask how we got together
What’s our cover story?
Loki [4:17pm]
The best lies are the ones closest to the truth
We can just tell them that we began our correspondence after one of the Avengers’ gatherings
Me [4:19pm]
Yeah that works
Can I also expand upon that and say that it’s a long-distance relationship (which is why we haven’t been seen together in public yet)?
Loki [4:19pm]
Of course, Captain
Me [4:20pm]
I’m pretty it’ll make more sense to call me Steve at this point
Loki [4:20pm]
As you wish, darling :)
For their plan to work at all, they need to, at the very least, be seen together in public.
Tony reluctantly asks Pepper to extend Loki a last-minute official invitation to the upcoming Maria Stark Foundation Charity Ball. Bruce too, since Loki isn’t legally allowed to leave New Asgard without being accompanied by an Avenger, and Thor is too busy to take a break again so soon. The charity ball is familiar territory for Steve (and Loki too, given his royal background), so it’ll be a good start for them to debut as a couple.
Steve is still on social media blackout, but in the days leading up the ball, Sam has helpfully informed him that the hashtag #LetCaptainAmericaBeGay has been trending on Twitter for three days already. When Steve brings this up to Loki in their messages, he simply receives a “Guess what else is trending” and a link to the #Stoki posts on Tumblr in return. It’s… eye-opening, he supposes, in the same way that watching a car pile up happen in real time is.
(He will never admit that he’s lost an hour of his life scrolling through that page)
It’s kind of strange how nothing really changes between them. But then again, it’s not as if Steve’s unexpected friendship with Loki isn’t strange to begin with. The other Avengers still don’t know what to make of it (with the unsurprising exceptions of Thor and Bruce), as is usually the case when it comes to anything Loki-related these days.
The day of the ball finally arrives, exactly one week after The Scandal. Steve has to admit, Loki looks good, in his dark and expensive-looking three-piece suit. Loki too, takes the time to pause and admire Steve’s appearance when he sees him.
“Hello, darling,” Loki half-sings in a mocking yet deadpan manner. “Did you miss me?”
This gets a genuine huff of laughter from Steve. It’s quite obvious that Loki is just messing around, but they’re already attracting the attention of nearby strangers who are trying and failing to pretend that they aren’t eavesdropping.
“Of course, love,” Steve replies in a matching tone. He doesn’t even manage to keep a straight face while saying that, but he can feel the shocked gazes swivelling in their direction.
God, this is already simultaneously way more fun  and nerve-wracking than he had expected it to be.
The first part of the night isn’t so bad, but that’s mainly because they are seated at a table with the other Avengers and Pepper. Steve manages to distract himself from the stares by paying more attention to the conversations with his friends and the plate of food in front of him.
But in between the deliveries of each part of the meal, people are getting out of their seats and socialising, so unfortunately that’s what they have to do as well. Steve and Loki stick together throughout most of it, only occasionally breaking off to talk to their own friends.
The Avengers may not trust Loki, but the general public trusts him even less. For almost every starstruck look that Steve receives, Loki gets a wary glance at best and a distrustful glare at worst. The polite ones make an effort to congratulate them on their “relationship”, but when they actually launch into small talk with Steve, they completely ignore Loki as if he isn’t there. Loki doesn’t appear phased by the not-so-subtle unfriendliness, but it still rubs Steve the wrong way. And the worst thing is, Steve knows that they’re probably not even doing it on purpose. After all, the same thing constantly happened to him whenever he was with Bucky, back before the serum.
Steve understands where they’re coming from, he really does- and he really isn’t expecting everyone to to simply drop their grudges and welcome Loki with open arms- but it keeps happening, again and again.
Steve thinks he’s doing a decent job of hiding his thinning patience, but unsurprisingly, it doesn’t escape Loki’s notice.
“You can at least afford to pretend you’re enjoying my company,” Loki jokes when they’re back in their own seats, dessert in front of them.
Steve blinks.
“Oh no, sorry, it’s just-” He makes a vague gesture in the direction of everyone else. “They keep ignoring you. Or acting like you’re just going to attack them when their backs are turned. Which is really rude and unfair to you.” He pauses. “It sounds kind of stupid when I say it out loud, doesn’t it.”
Loki’s bright green eyes glimmer with an unreadable emotion.
“I suppose it does,” he murmurs, almost distractedly, while stabbing his fork into a slice of lemon tart.
Steve manages to keep his cool, even when a particularly pushy reporter corners him for an interview once dessert is finished. She ignores Loki (yet again), but this time he chooses to exit with the excuse of refilling their glasses. Steve is left to indulge her questions, which seem reasonable enough at first.
“So,” she says, after the polite warm-up questions. “You are dating Loki?”
Steve’s polite smile tightens.
“Yes.” Despite the number of times he’s said it already tonight, the lie still feels foreign on his tongue.
“I- How-” She lets out a nervous peal of laughter. “How did that even happen? I mean, I don’t have anything against gay people or anything, but… surely it doesn’t make sense for Captain America of all people to be gay?”
Steve feels a small frown slip into his expression.
“…What do you mean?”
“It’s just that you like women- everyone who knows their history knows how important Margaret Carter was to you. And you came from a time where that kind of thing was frowned upon, and you wouldn’t be able to join the army if you were gay. And yet you’re probably the best soldier in all of American history.”
“I…” Why do they always like bringing up Peggy whenever they want to stick their nose into his love-life? “You flatter me. And just because it was frowned upon doesn’t mean that gay people didn’t exist.”
“But you’re not actually one of them, are you? Because so many children look up to you and it would be such a shame if their hero turned out to be someone with a lifestyle that isn’t so family-friendly.”
What.
The night has been wearing at him, and there are about ten different ways Steve wants to respond to her nonsense, but he was raised better than that.
He is left with no choice but to silently seethe, but Loki chooses that moment to return with two full glasses.
Loki raises an eyebrow at the visibly tense atmosphere as he hands one of them to Steve.
“Is everything alright?”
Steve purses his lips as he takes the glass. He gives a quick glance to the reporter, who is wearing a pinched expression at Loki’s interruption. Or maybe his presence. Whatever.
Steve turns his gaze back to Loki. An idea forms in his mind.
“Yes. Of course. Thank you.” He mentally apologises as he looks into those green eyes, which gaze back at him curiously.
Then he hooks an arm around Loki’s neck and tugs him down for a kiss.
He remembers to tilt his head at the last moment, but that doesn’t stop their lips from colliding messily. Their teeth clash and Steve accidentally bites onto Loki’s lower lip, inciting a small, surprised noise.
The kiss is too rushed, too unprepared, and it only lasts just long enough for everyone to register what’s happening.
Then Steve pulls away, heart pounding in his ears as he takes in Loki’s stunned expression.
He turns back to the gaping reporter.
“Sorry to cut this short, but I have to go now. Duty calls.”
He grabs Loki by the wrist and they make a hasty exit. Surprisingly no one follows them, but it does nothing to lessen the thundering of Steve’s heart. He can’t even bring himself to look Loki in the eye again until they reach a secluded area just outside the venue.
“I’m so sorry,” is the first thing Steve says. He winces and runs a hand through his hair nervously. “I shouldn’t have done that without asking you.”
But Loki only laughs.
“Oh no, don’t worry about it. How could I object to being kissed by a man as fine as you?”
Steve feels his cheeks heat up, but he refuses to let the teasing distract him.
“I’m serious. I should’ve at least asked you. It’s been a long night and I got angry at what she said, but that doesn’t excuse what I did. I’m sorry.”
Loki tilts his head consideringly.
“As I’ve said, don’t worry about it. It’s something that I’m far from opposed to,” he smirks. “And besides, the reactions you garnered were possibly the best form of entertainment I’ve had in the past week. It was amusing to see how closely humans are capable of resembling fish.”
Now that his anger-turned-mortification has worn off, Steve supposes that the gaping fish look the reporter had was actually pretty funny. He’s even starting to look forward to reading whatever article she’ll write after this.
The moment is broken when Sam finds them.
“There you are! I didn’t see what you did but suddenly there were rumours everywhere and then you guys had run off.”
Steve and Loki exchange amused looks.
“What kind of rumours?” Loki asks innocently. Sam takes one look at him and just shakes his head, refusing to even dignify that with an answer.
“Come back inside,” Sam says instead. “The speeches have started already but you should be able to sneak back in. After the last speech they’re opening up the dancefloor, and, well, I’m pretty sure I’m not exaggerating when I’m saying that everyone’s expecting the two of you to dance together.”
The words sink in, and Steve feels an oncoming wave of uncertainty.
Dancing brings up many memories for him, particularly those from before the ice- memories of his missed chance with Peggy, memories of the double dates with Bucky. The last time he had even danced, he kept stepping on his poor date’s feet. But with the serum now, his balance and coordination have most likely improved. It still doesn’t make the idea of dancing any more appealing though.
“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Loki says, sending a pondering glance in Steve’s direction. “Our previous kiss has ignited our carnal desires, and we are currently having a passionate tryst behind the bushes. We are too preoccupied to return inside.”
He says all of this with a completely straight face. Sam’s eyebrows have long disappeared into his hairline, and Steve can’t help it- he bursts into laughter, laughing so hard that he doubles over. By the time he manages to straighten himself, he sneaks a quick glance at Loki. Even after all that, the only crack in the other man’s serious facade is the twinkling laughter in his bright green eyes.
Steve can’t help but smile as well.
He feels better after laughing- much calmer than he was before, at least. He’ll listen to the remainder of the speeches, and when the time comes for dancing, then… well, he’s been told that dancing is much more different now, less coordinated and partner-focused than he’s used to. He can probably get by with sheer instinct and going with the flow.
“No, it’s okay,” Steve finally tells Sam. “I’ll do it.”
“Are you sure?” Sam asks, still looking sceptical.
“Yeah.” Steve falters, then looks at Loki. “Unless you don’t…?”
“No, I’m fine,” Loki replies. Then he raises an inquisitive eyebrow. “Were you nervous about dancing?”
Steve sighs. Was he really that obvious?
Loki lets out a huff of laughter, but it doesn’t sound mocking at all.
“Don’t worry, Steve. Just follow my lead and we’ll be fine.”
“And if I step on your toes?” Steve half-teases.
Loki gives him a mock-offended look.
“You won’t.”
Sam looks between them with a thoughtful frown, but he shakes his head.
“Alright then, let’s go back inside.”

I don’t think people realize how important this video is. It’s just Captain America dancing and having fun with his boyfriend, but I can’t tell you how much this would’ve meant to me in my teen years, when everyone treated gayness as something weird to be laughed at. And the people who are objecting to said boyfriend being Loki are missing the point.

We’re living in the weirdest timeline

I remember writing an essay for history in high school arguing that Captain America isn’t straight, and my teacher said it was well-written but she failed it because it was “factually incorrect”. And now it turns out I was right all along. SUCK ON THAT, MRS CHAPWELL.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but they actually look kinda cute together? Wtf?

I was holding out on hope that the rumors weren’t true but I guess I’m not a Captain America fan anymore

I hate the internet. Their dancing, which somehow means they must be gay. They used to be enemies but now their just friends! Homosexuality is lustful, sexual attractions, while friendship is something so much more pure.
“Wait wait wait I thought the clone boyfriend thing was just a nickname I didn’t know you were actually dating.”
Steve and Bucky freeze in the middle of their sparring session. Bucky makes a face at the interruption while Steve blinks at Peter, who looks back with wide eyes.
“Uh, no, we’re not, actually.”
“Oh. Okay.” Peter looks slightly relieved, though no less confused. “Good- I was right then. See, I honestly thought that you guys weren’t telling me something about that party like it was one of those ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ type of things, which I missed because it was on the same day as Ned’s birthday-”
“No, Loki and I are not dating,” Steve interrupts before Peter can hyperventilate. “But we are pretending to.”
“Uh.” Peter looks like he has no idea how to react. “Sorry, what? ”
And so Steve and Bucky give the poor kid a crash course on The Scandal and what led up to it, as well as Steve’s genius plan (as quoted by Bucky with a generous helping of sarcasm). By the end of it, Peter hums thoughtfully.
“I mean yeah,” Peter finally says. “I think your plan’s working, anyhow. If you look at that video post of you dancing on Dr Banner’s instagram, the comments are a complete mess. And I’m pretty sure there’s already about a hundred articles written about it.”
Steve is still on social media blackout and Bucky only ever uses the internet for Skype, Spotify, animal videos, cooking tutorials and online shopping, so this is news to both of them.
“What post?”
And so that’s how Steve ends up spending the next ten minutes scrolling through a landmine of Instagram comments on Peter’s phone with Bucky reading over his shoulder.
“This is why I don’t do social media,” Bucky mutters, and Steve has to agree. Truth be told, a petty part of Steve is revelling in the homophobic anger of some of the comments. But there are also certain comments- especially the ones thanking him for being inspiring- which remind him of why he’s doing this fake relationship thing with Loki in the first place.
“Has Loki left already?” Peter suddenly asks.
“No,” Steve answers. “He and Bruce are still here, but they’re leaving tomorrow morning.”
“Ohhhh,” Peter says, nodding slowly. “Is it because you’re planning to go on a fake date soon or something?”
“Uh, no, they just wanted some room to breathe before going back to Norway.”
“But you totally should! You and Loki are trending right now, so if you go out say, tonight, then you’ll be getting a lot of attention. It’ll help your plan!”
Steve flips the idea over in his head, which isn’t too bad, actually.
He glances at the clock in the room. 2:35pm. A bit too late for lunch.
“I guess I can ask him out for dinner,” he muses out loud.
Me [2:35pm]
Do you have anything planned tonight?
If not, we can go out on a fake date for the public
Peter says we’re trending on social media right now, so maybe we should take advantage of it
Loki [2:37pm]
Not particularly
And of course, darling :)
Shall it be dinner at 7 then?
Me [2:37pm]
Sounds like a plan
With Bucky and Peter’s help, Steve attempts to pick out the most decent restaurant possible for such a last-minute booking on a Saturday. In the end, with Loki’s approval, they settle on a fairly classy seafood place with pretty good reviews.
That would’ve been the end of it, if it weren’t for the nagging feeling at the back of Steve’s mind that something is missing.
“Should I get flowers…?” he mutters out loud. At Bucky’s raised eyebrows, he quickly adds, “Because it’s the proper thing to do on dates- even fake ones, isn’t it?”
“Well I guess, yeah,” Bucky reluctantly agrees. “Figures you’d wanna go all-out on even your fake relationships, huh.”
Steve shrugs.
“Gotta do things properly, or they’re not worth doing at all.”
Peter perks up.
“Are you getting flowers, then? Because I know a place.”
Around a month ago, a rowdy group of primary school kids had run past a florist, knocking over several displays and then continuing their sprint out of fear when the poor owner had yelled out after them. Spider-Man, who had witnessed all of this, stopped to help clean up the mess, and from that moment on the florist adored the young superhero so much that she made a habit of giving him something for free every time he swung by.
After the three of them stepped through the cramped entrance, the florist had readily extended her friendliness to Steve when Spider-Man introduced him as the “friend who needs help”. She didn’t even seem to mind Bucky standing silently off to the side and staring intently at the rows of bright flowers. She wasn’t a particularly nosy, woman, but she did give Steve a knowing look when he admitted that the flowers are for a first date.
Steve stares at the mixed bouquet sitting on his coffee table while he lets Bucky adjust his tie for him. He’s wearing his second suit, which is practically identical to the one he wore yesterday except it’s charcoal grey rather than navy. He remembers how at first he had thought Tony was being excessive when the billionaire had insisted that it was important to own at least two suits. But now, five years later, Steve is grateful that he had begrudgingly listened.
He feels Bucky pat down the non-existent wrinkles on his shoulder pads, and he closes his eyes against the familiarity of the gesture, trying not to let it dredge up memories from a previous lifetime.
Bucky suddenly pauses.
“Have I done this before?”
Steve lets out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding.
“Yeah.” Seeing Bucky’s slight frown, he tentatively adds, “Are you remembering something?”
Bucky doesn’t answer for a few moments, but then he finally says, “I set you up on a date with Mildred’s friend. Patricia.”
“Yeah,” Steve repeats, slowly. “And within an hour she left me and they both became your dates.”
Bucky’s frown deepens. “She didn’t deserve you, Steve.”
Steve smiles. He feels something sad and warm twist in his chest.
“You said the exact same thing too, that night when we came home.”
“Oh.” Bucky goes over to the flowers on the coffee table, and gently picks them up. He stares at them in silence for a few moments, before he says, “I don’t know if Loki deserves you either.”
“Buck, you know we’re not actually-” Steve begins, but Bucky silences him with a disgruntled glare.
“Just don’t do anything more stupid than usual,” his best friend says, shoving the bouquet at Steve. “And no, that wasn’t a challenge.”
“Hey!”
Bucky rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling too.
“Good luck, Steve.”
Steve is bolstered by the not-pep talk from his best friend, up until he finds out from FRIDAY that Loki is currently with Wanda and Vision in Wanda’s room. His steps become more uncertain after that, but they slow to a complete stop when he reaches Wanda’s door frame. He isn’t sure what he expected to find, but it isn’t this- Loki and Vision are sitting cross-legged on the floor with a chessboard between them, while Wanda’s nestled on her beanbag, practising guitar behind them. It’s an unexpectedly peaceful scene; they look like they’re simply enjoying each other’s company.
Steve supposes it makes sense. After all, out of all the Avengers, Wanda and Vision are the ones who have the least amount of reason to hold a personal grudge against Loki. For some reason he cannot explain, Steve finds himself happy at the thought of Loki befriending more of the Avengers in his own time.
“I wasn’t aware that there’s an invisible barrier preventing you from entering,” Loki muses without looking up. Wanda laughs, pausing in her playing.
“Well it’s certainly not my fault if there is,” she says. “You can come in, you know.”
Steve awkwardly adjusts his hold on the bouquet, keeping it out of sight. The movement catches Vision’s attention.
“What are you hiding?” he asks with a curious tilt of his head.
“Uh, nothing, no, I’m fine thanks. Just-” Steve internally cringes. Why is he so bad at this? “Loki. I’ll meet you outside whenever you’re ready.”
He looks at Loki, who is actually rather well-dressed for someone who’s been lounging around indoors all day. In fact now that he thinks about it, Steve doesn’t think he’s ever seen the other man dressed in anything other than Asgardian armour and expensive-looking suits.
Loki looks back at him with slightly furrowed brows, then sighs down at the board.
“Wanda? Could you please win on my behalf?”
“Yeah, I guess,” she says as she puts her guitar down. “I’ll see you sometime.”
“Yeah,” Vision agrees. “We’re finishing this next time.”
Loki gives them both a lazy wave in response as he follows Steve out.
“You do realise we’re going to be ridiculously early if we leave-” Loki begins, but he suddenly cuts himself off.
Steve nervously follows the wide-eyed gaze to the flowers he’s holding. He clears his throat.
“Um, yeah. I know that we’re only pretending to date but I figured that I should still do it properly. And I don’t know about Asgardian culture, but on Earth, giving your date flowers is something we do. I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I ended up getting you a bit of everything. So, um, here.”
He holds out the mixed bouquet, which Loki accepts seemingly on auto-pilot. Loki is still speechless, and Steve watches anxiously as the other man stares at the flowers in his hands as if he isn’t quite sure whether they’re real or not. When Loki finally looks back up at him, Steve feels his breath catch at the intensity in his eyes- sea green, swirling with a mix of emotions.
But the spell is broken by the smile that graces Loki’s lips, which feels less genuine.
“Thank you, darling. You sure know the way to one’s heart.”
Steve isn’t sure what to make of Loki’s odd reaction, but he figures it can’t be too bad, if the way the other man carefully handles the bouquet back to his guest room is any indication.
Steve does his best to pretend that he doesn’t notice stares and whispers directed at their corner of the restaurant. Loki’s doing a much better job at ignoring them; he’s currently gazing intently out of the giant glass windows, though he looks more curious than impressed at the night view of the city outside.
“You liking the view?” Steve asks for the lack of anything better to say.
Loki lightly scoffs.
“Let’s just say it’s… different to the cities of other planets. But I’ve also noticed how practically every city on Earth is identical.” He absently swirls the water in his glass. “Funny, considering how much you insist that you’re different from each other.”
Steve wrinkles his nose.
“It’s actually a bit more complicated than that. How much of Earth’s history do you know?”
“Not as much as I’d like to, unfortunately. Before New Asgard, I’d only taught myself as much as I needed to know depending on whatever business I had at the time.”
Steve looks at Loki curiously.
“Oh? And what did your business with Earth usually involve?”
“Nothing in particular,” Loki says. “I merely used it as a place, amongst several other realms, for retreat on occasions where I felt the need to have some space to myself. And before you ask- no, I did not use the Bifrost. It’s fast, but hardly a discreet method of travel.”
Steve hums.
“I guess that explains how you’ve picked up on our technology here a lot quicker than Thor did.”
Loki rolls his eyes.
“Thor is a stubborn fool who likes sticking with his own way of doing things,” he scoffs, but there’s a hint of fondness to it. “In all honesty, I hadn’t actually come down here in over a hundred years, at least until several years ago. And I’m sure you don’t me to tell you that a lot has changed since then.”
Steve stares at Loki in surprise.
“Oh. Wow. Sometimes I feel like there’s still a lot of things I haven’t figured out yet about my phone, but you seem to know what you’re doing. It’s like you grew up with it.”
“Why, thank you,” Loki smiles. “Though to be fair, I do have an unfair advantage- for one, I’ve already familiarised myself with the technologies from a range of different realms. And for another, well…” He trails off, watching Steve carefully. “Let’s just say that I had the help of two humans well-versed in the area.”
Steve matches his gaze evenly. He’d seen this coming, and it’s honestly a surprise that they haven’t touched upon this topic already.
“Have you spoken to either Clint or Dr Selvig since you came back?”
“No,” Loki answers simply. “I haven’t seen any of Thor’s scientist friends, and considering that he’s broken up with Jane, I think it’s unlikely that I will. And as for Clint, well…” The smile that stretches across his face is entirely artificial. “We’ve been content to avoid each other.”
Steve sighs. He’d expected as much.
Their waiter chooses that moment to take their orders, something which reminds them that they’ve barely even glanced at the menu since they sat down.
Steve internally winces at the prices, but when he looks up at Loki, he sees the other man frowning as well.
“This can’t possibly be edible,” Loki says, gesturing at his copy of the menu. Steve looks at where he’s pointing, then feels a surge of amusement.
“Crab? It’s a staple of most seafood restaurants. You haven’t had it before?”
“I was expecting fish. This is a giant spider.”
“It’s not,” Steve laughs. “It’s good, I promise. Want to try it?”
Fifteen minutes later Steve is struggling to keep a straight face as he watches Loki attempting to get to the meat under the shell with nothing but his cutlery and the crab cracker.
“You know you can use your hands right?” Steve says mildly, hiding his smile behind his fist.
“I can do this,” Loki replies through gritted teeth. Unsurprisingly, he does manage it, after much manoeuvring. He eyes Steve smugly when the latter cleans his hands with the provided wet wipes, prompting Steve to roll his eyes in response.
They pretend not to notice the paparazzi trailing after them when they leave the restaurant. But halfway down the busy streets, Loki catches Steve’s eye with a mischievous smirk before slipping his hand into Steve’s.
Steve does his best not to tense up in surprise. It doesn’t help that Loki’s hand is cold, though it isn’t particularly surprising, considering how cool the night is. Steve gives Loki’s hand a gentle squeeze, hoping the transfer some of his own warmth. He feels some of the warmth travel to his chest as he watches Loki’s smirk soften in response.
A block away from where Steve had parked the car, they are suddenly interrupted by a sharp bang.
Loki hisses and clutches at his upper arm, and Steve immediately springs into action. For a split second he reaches for his shield, and he internally curses when he realises of course he doesn’t have it. He faintly registers light travelling up Loki’s body in his peripheral vision as he quickly dives and knocks several bystanders out of the way, just in time for more shots to be fired in their direction.
Steve braces for the impact of the bullets, but he watches with bated breath as they smack harmlessly against a force field which shimmers into view.
He looks up.
Loki’s black suit has been completely replaced by his Asgardian armour sans his horned headgear. His green cape billows behind him, and for a brief moment, Steve is struck by how heroic he looks.
But Steve can thank Loki for saving his life later- right now, he has a shooter to take down.
The crowd is beginning to truly panic, and Steve does his best to direct as many people to the direction of Loki’s giant force field as possible while he scans the direction the bullets had come from. It doesn’t take long for him to spot the pale, gangly young man clutching at a rifle. The shooter appears to be hesitating at Loki’s appearance, and Steve takes the opportunity to slip into the terrified crowd, unnoticed. Steve keeps an eye on the shooter the whole time, so he immediately notices when the the young man makes the frenzied split-second decision to fire several more shots in Loki’s direction.
Steve feels his heart drop and his ears are drowned out by the screams of the people around him. He doesn’t manage to see if any of the bullets had hit anyone or not, but he grits his teeth and continues making his way towards the shooter.
He has to trust Loki to take care of it.
Steve catches the shooter completely off-guard when he comes in out of seemingly-nowhere and knocks the rifle out of the young man’s hands, kicking him back and grabbing the weapon from him in one fell swoop. Once the guy realises that he’s been stopped by Captain America himself, he goes down without a fight. But just as a precaution, Loki strides over and freezes the man’s hands together in makeshift handcuffs with some ice spell.
Steve watches in fascination as the cold blue light spreads from Loki’s fingers, forming the ice seemingly from thin air. He isn’t sure if it’s a trick of light, but for a split second he swears that the skin of Loki’s hands turned blue.
Now that they’re waiting for the police to arrive, Steve turns to Loki.
“Let me see your arm.”
Loki crosses them both over his chest defensively.
“It barely grazed me. I’ll be fine. My armour and magic deflected the rest of it.” He pauses, then narrows his eyes at Steve. “What about you? You charged at him while you were unarmed. What were you thinking?”
Steve is taken aback at the sheer anger and worry in the other man’s tone. It even reminds him a little bit of Bucky, and he can’t help but laugh.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. I know how to fight without my shield.”
Loki huffs in annoyance but doesn’t pursue any further, because the police arrive. The shooter gets arrested and Steve does most of the talking to the officers. It doesn’t escape his notice that while they seem in awe at his presence, they keep eyeing Loki warily. It reminds Steve a little too much of the charity ball, which already feels like a distant memory, with everything that’s happened.
By the time Steve and Loki are free to go, the area has been taped off and a huge crowd has gathered on the outskirts of the crime scene.
Steve sighs. Now that the adrenaline has faded, he just wants to go back to the compound. This wasn’t how he had wanted his fake date night to end, but he doesn’t feel up for doing anything else.
He suddenly feels a light tug on his wrist.
Steve looks questioningly up at Loki, but the other man has his eyes on the crowd. Steve follows his gaze.
There’s excitement and curiosity buzzing around the gathered people, and there’s even a noticeable number of them holding out their phones in Steve and Loki’s direction.
Steve feels Loki lean in conspiratorially.
“They’re all watching us now. Shall we do something with their attention?”
Loki’s whisper makes the skin on Steve’s neck tingle. He barely manages to suppress the involuntary shudder.
He swallows.
“Yeah,” Steve whispers back.
The corners of Loki’s lips quirk upwards as he gives one final glance in the direction of the crowd.
“How about a kiss then? One for the cameras?”
Steve licks his lips nervously, but he nods determinedly.
This time their lips meet slower. Carefully, but not hesitantly. Loki’s hand gently cups Steve’s jaw, while his other arm is looped around Steve’s waist, pressing their bodies close together. Steve leans into the touch and his arms around Loki’s neck tighten, deepening the kiss. Steve faintly registers a surge of noise in the background. But then he feels Loki sigh softly against his lips, and the little remains of concentration left vanish completely.
Then Loki pulls back, and Steve feels an unexpected wave of disappointment, though they are still close enough that their noses almost touch. He’s left feeling dazed and breathless, and his insides don’t feel entirely solid, like they might collapse under the heavy pounding of his heart.
It makes Steve feel a little better to see Loki looking equally stunned. They’re still pressed together, and Steve can feel Loki’s chest lightly heaving through the shared contact. He looks into Loki’s eyes- dark green, nearly the shade of a forest. Molten with heat, and so many other emotions that Steve currently lacks the brainpower to decipher.
Steve catches himself staring, and quickly turns away. He does his best to ignore the sudden pang at the loss of contact, and takes in their surroundings. His eyes settle on the crowd a few meters away, and reality abruptly crashes around him.
Right. That was why they were kissing in the first place.
He clears his throat.
“I think we should try heading back now.”

Though he can’t exactly complain about resulting public responses it had garnered (in fact, come the next morning they find an unsigned note amongst the pile of mail, consisting of nothing but a succinct “Are you fucking kidding me” in what looks suspiciously like Fury’s handwriting). That’s what Steve has chosen to focus on, instead of the way his insides begin to feel strange whenever he even thinks about the kiss. He’s blaming that on the fact that he has kissed too few people in his life.
But despite everything, Steve still feels a genuine pang of… something when Loki and Bruce return to Norway. Something which, of course, his friends take notice of.
“So I’m guessing he is a better kisser than you,” Natasha says, because she likes making him suffer.
“Are you sure you’re not actually dating?” Tony teases, which Steve resolutely ignores.
The others are nice enough not to actually say anything about it, though at one point Bucky does tell him he’s acting like a lovesick teenager (which he isn’t, okay).
Sam sends him an article with the headline “Florida Man Accidentally Burns Home Down After Lighting Captain America Merch On Fire In Protest Of Hero’s Relationship With Loki”. Steve forwards the article to Loki, then prints it out and sticks it on his wall next to his sketches.
Steve and Loki continue to regularly text each other. Loki still likes to start conversations by sending unflattering photos of Steve, and Steve is beginning to wonder if there’s a website dedicated to photos of him looking as ugly as humanly possible, be it mid-blink, mid-sneeze, or appearing double-chinned from an awkward angle. But of course, there’s always the possibility that Loki himself was the one who found the stills by pausing footage at the right moment. At this point, Steve isn’t sure which one would be better. But he still makes sure to send back funny and/or interesting videos and images that he finds online.
Neither of them have really talked about the kiss, outside of the context of how the general populace has reacted. Which is to be expected, because that’s the whole point of why they’re doing this. Yet Steve can’t help but feel that it’s something like a spectre, hovering unspoken between them.
Their plan finally bears fruit when, as time passes, the public begins to treat their “relationship” as they would any other celebrity couple. In fact, in his most recent interview, Steve even gets asked about what it’s like to date a former enemy, and also what it’s like to be in a long distance relationship.
Life is good, though Steve sometimes catches himself longing to see Loki again.
Which he does- almost three months later, after he nearly dies.
The first thing that Steve registers is how sore and stiff he feels. The second thing he notices is that he’s sleeping on something soft.
Really soft.
“Don’t worry, only three days have passed.”
Steve blinks blearily, then stiffens when his brain finally registers who the voice belongs to.
He tries to sit up, but two strong arms push him down again.
“Please don’t,” Loki says, an expression which almost resembles genuine concern flits across his features. “You’ll undo all of Eir’s hard work.”
Deliriously, Steve thinks that Loki looks like an angel, and he nearly drops the glass of water that the other man hands him.
As Steve sips on the glass, he tries to remember what happened.
He’s supposed to be in Sweden. With Bucky and Clint. They were on a mission investigating the rumours of Chitauri tech being circulated underground in Stockholm. It was a bit of an overkill for the three of them to go, but it was more of a matter of safety just in case things go terribly wrong.
Which it did.
After having their operations discovered, the dealers started a shootout at the base.  In the midst of the chaos Steve got hit point blank in the stomach by one of their weapons. The last thing he remembers, before completely blacking out from the pain, was an explosion which felt like it had burned him alive.
“Where’s Bucky and Clint?” Steve finally asks.
“Bruce finally managed to convince them to get some proper sleep a few hours ago.” Loki pauses, levelling Steve with a serious stare. “You’re quite fortunate that you were so close to New Asgard. If you were treated in one of your ordinary hospitals, your chances for survival would’ve been rather… slim.”
A brief flash of pain flickers through Loki’s eyes- teal, under this lighting- as the last word quietly drops from his lips.
Steve swallows down the rising guilt.
“Oh.”
He averts his gaze, and he uses it as an opportunity to glance around the room he’s in. He’s currently lying on one side of a king sized bed, under cream-coloured silk sheets. Aside from his now-empty glass, there’s a small stack of books and a lamp on the bedside table. Pale daylight is peeking through dark curtains, which seem to be hiding a large window. In the wall opposite the bed is an unlit fireplace, and there’s a wall length cupboard next to the door. It’s sparsely decorated, but it still feels strangely cosy for a recovery room.
“Where exactly am I?”
“You are currently resting in my bed. You’re welcome, by the way- if my sources are correct then it is possibly the best surface you’ve slept on in the past weeks.”
Steve stiffens.
“Wait- this is your bed? Then what about-”
“You were only moved here this morning,” Loki interrupts him. “Eir predicted that you would wake up some time today, and our medical facilities are still rather small and understaffed. So being the generous and considerate lover that I am…” Loki’s lips twist into an amused smile, and he spreads his hands out. “I offered my own living quarters as a place for your recovery.”
Steve attempts to protest that he doesn’t want to impose, but Loki shuts that down quickly with “You almost died, you idiot.” After that Steve begrudgingly acquiesces, especially when he has to suppress at wince at how sore his abdomen feels as he sits up.
Steve is able to walk around without too much difficulty, so Loki leaves him to eat in the kitchen while he leaves the house to go somewhere else. After taking one bite of an apple, Steve suddenly realises how hungry he is, and he devours the rest in less than a minute.
Loki isn’t gone for long, as he returns with Bucky and Clint in tow while Steve is almost finished with his second apple.
Clint visibly perks up when he sees Steve alive and whole, though he still remains alert of his surroundings. Bucky’s expression is about as rigid as his shoulders, but after staring at Steve for a few tense seconds, it all drains out of him and he mournfully mutters that he’d thought he had lost Steve.
Steve feels his heart clench seeing Bucky so distraught. After all, he knows exactly what it feels like to think that you’ve lost your best friend forever when you were supposed to be on a mission together.
Eventually they get around to discussing the disastrous mission in Stockholm. It was technically a success as they did break up the alien weapons trading ring, destroying every trace of it to boot. Bucky and Clint didn’t get out of the warehouse shootout unscathed either, but they were nowhere near as horrible as Steve was.
Throughout it all, Steve notices that Loki is lingering silently, as far away from them as the small space of the kitchen would allow. He finds it slightly odd that Bucky and especially Clint don’t seem to mind Loki listening in on classified information of their mission, but Steve supposes that somewhere along the process of him getting sent to New Asgard for emergency medical treatment, Loki must’ve gotten ahold of the details anyway.
“Oh and by the way, Steve,” Clint says. “Bucky and I are heading back to the compound first thing tomorrow.”
Steve frowns, but Bucky interrupts him before he can say anything.
“Yeah, we’re leaving you. Think of it as a vacation or something. God knows you need a break from trying to get yourself killed.”
Steve glances at Loki, who doesn’t seem surprised by the news at all. He thinks back to his earlier conversation with Loki, and it suddenly clicks. So he’s staying over at Loki’s for the next couple of days; they must’ve discussed it before he had woken up, then.
“And you’re okay with Loki watching over me?” Steve asks Clint sceptically.
“Hell no,” Clint says immediately. “But I’m trusting Thor and Bruce to step in before he does anything. And if that doesn’t work…” Clint glares at Loki. “I’m turning you into my personal pincushion.”
“Well that doesn’t sound very pleasant,” Loki says drily, prompting Clint to childishly flip him off.
Bucky appears only slightly less adverse to the arrangement, but he still gives Steve a careful hug before he and Clint leave.
Steve is surprised, to say the least, when it turns out that Loki lives in a modest-looking cottage which looks no different to the others in the neighbourhood; Loki must’ve used magic to make everything much bigger on the inside. Aside from the living room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry room, the cottage has two bedrooms, though one of them has been completely repurposed into a personal library/study space. When they get back to Loki’s room, Loki admits that when he first heard about the label of “king” beds, he had thought it meant that the bed would be befitting for a king.
“It’s acceptable, I suppose,” Loki shrugs, which Steve responds to with a playful roll of his eyes. Typical.
It also happens to be the only bed in the entire cottage. Loki absolutely refuses to let Steve sleep on the couch, but he also thinks it’s beneath him to sleep there when the bed is perfectly capable of fitting both of them.
“I suppose I’ll look forward to waking up to your beautiful face, then,” Loki says with a playful wink. Steve ignores the teasing like he usually does, except this time it’s accompanied by a light fluttering in his chest.
(He ignores that too)
Truth be told, Steve doesn’t mind- after all, he’s not one to get touchy over bed-sharing. Back when he was living with Bucky in their apartment in Brooklyn, there were times when they couldn’t afford consistent heating in winter. Thus, in order to prevent Steve from getting sick from the cold, they often shared a bed to share warmth. Steve’s also lost count of the number of times he had shared beds with Sam and Natasha (or even both at the same time, if the bed was big enough) while they were on the run. In the end, bed-sharing is just a pragmatic thing that he does with people he trusts.
It kind of begs the question of whether Loki is someone he trusts. A year ago the answer would’ve been a definite “no”. But that was before he’d actually gotten to know his former enemy as a person. A petty, snarky yet insightful person, with a ridiculous sense of humour. Now, after over half a year of being friends with Loki, and especially after that incident following their fake date, Steve thinks the answer might be “yes”. He knows most of his friends would disagree, but he does trust Loki.
Steve sits half-tucked into his side of the bed, trying his best to answer his mountain of unread messages. He assures all of his worried friends that he’s fine but he’s going to stay in New Asgard for a few more days, though he’s almost certain that they would’ve gotten that information already from Bucky and Clint.
Steve doesn’t get any immediate replies, so he idly scrolls through the news to see what the public is told about the incident in Stockholm. Somehow that leads him to discover that news of his presence in New Asgard has somehow gotten out, which led to his “relationship” with Loki being brought into the limelight again.
Steve is watching a clip of some Fox News anchors debating with a “historian” on how “Loki the god of evil has brainwashed Captain America and we need to rescue the poor Captain from his clutches” when Loki strides into the room in his nightclothes while toweling his damp hair. Loki raises an eyebrow at Steve as he listens in on the newsclip, but Steve doesn’t say anything until several moments after the video ends.
“Oh my god,” Steve finally manages, after his brain finally processes the sheer amount of bullshit that he had just been forced to listen to.
“You called?” Loki grins, tossing his towel aside. Steve groans.
“I know a lot of people still hate you for New York, but-” he gestures at his phone, at a loss for words. “What the fuck. ”
Loki bursts into laughter.
“No need to be so angry on my behalf, Steve,” he says, climbing onto the bed. “I actually quite like their version of the truth.”
Then Steve blinks as he watches Loki abruptly rearrange himself into a mocking parody of a seductive pose.
“Yes, I have indeed seduced the good Captain to the dark side,” Loki smirks, lowering his lashes. “And I definitely have plans to do so for every other hero that Earth has to offer.”
Steve swallows. To distract himself from his elevated heartbeat, he throws a pillow in Loki’s direction.
The ensuing pillow fight lasts for over an hour.
It doesn’t surprise Steve when, in the middle of his lunch meetup with Thor, the topic of Loki comes up.
“How have things with Loki been?”
“Pretty good, actually,” Steve answers honestly. Loki has actually been a rather gracious host, though he does get a bit ridiculous whenever he gets under the impression that Steve is overexerting himself.
“Good, that’s good,” Thor says, but there’s a slight furrow between his brows.
Steve frowns.
“Is something wrong?”
“Oh, no,” Thor quickly denies. “It’s just that- it’s not that I don’t trust you or anything- because I do, you’re a great man, one of the most honourable I’ve had the luck to meet and fight with in my lifetime-”
“Thor…” Steve tries to interrupt, but his friend goes on.
“-but I think I should tell you that if you hurt my brother, then he’s not one for forgiveness.”
Steve stares at him.
“What.”
“He’s more likely to retaliate,” Thor clarifies, as if that was the part Steve should’ve been confused about. “See, when we were on Sakaar, Loki had this weird thing going on with the Grandmaster.”
Steve nearly chokes on his own spit.
“What.”
“Yeah,” Thor agrees, as if he is imparting some particularly juicy bit of gossip and not telling Steve something he never ever wanted to know. “The Grandmaster was a strange, but horrible man, but Loki only went anywhere near him because of his power. In the end, Loki betrayed him, stole his best ships and there was also a revolution involved. I’m not sure what exactly happened, but I’m pretty sure the Grandmaster is no longer the ruler of Sakaar.”
What the fuck.
“Um, okay?” Steve finally says, weakly. “Why are you telling me this?”
But the only answer he receives is a pat on the arm.
“You’re a good man, Captain. I’d hate to see Loki ruin your life.”
What the fuck.
Cold creeps into the air inside his lungs, seeps into his skin, turning his bones into ice. The air around him thickens, until he drowns in it, chokes in it-
Steve’s eyes snap open and he gasps for air.
It takes several heartbeats for him to realise that he’s in Loki’s room, and not the flooded cockpit of the Valkyrie. It is still completely dark, and a quick glance at the time tells him it’s a quarter to four.
An involuntary shiver suddenly wracks through his body, and that’s when Steve realises that the cold didn’t vanish with his dreams.
In fact, it seems to be coming from beneath the covers.
Loki makes a pained noise and shifts in his sleep, and that’s all Steve needs before he throws off the blankets and turns on the bedside lamp.
The movement jars Loki awake, but Steve’s jaw drops when he sees him in the light.
Loki’s skin is completely blue. Steve has no idea what this means, but now that he’s concentrating, he can feel that the source of the cold is actually Loki himself.
Loki looks frantic and disoriented, as if he had just woken up from a nightmare. But the moment his eyes- red, blood red- land on the blue of his hands, a fresh wave of panic sweeps through him.
“Loki-” Steve begins as calmly as he can, but Loki flinches and throws himself off the bed.
“Loki-!”
“Don’t touch me!” Loki suddenly yells, as he spins on the floor to face Steve like a cornered animal.
Steve takes in a steadying breath. He doesn’t move, even though the muscles in his arms and legs are practically twitching from the effort.
“Don’t… touch me…” Loki repeats, weakly. He’s kneeling on the floor now, hunched over his shaking hands.
It kills Steve to do so, but he manages to remain seated on the bed. He watches, more fascinated than what is probably appropriate given the situation, as the blue slowly begins to recede from Loki’s skin. Loki still doesn’t move even when his usual, pale colour is fully restored, but Steve begins to make his way to the other man, until he is crouching right next to him.
“Are you okay now?” he asks softly.
“I… I’m sorry.” Loki still doesn’t look up. “Go back to bed, you need your rest. I’ll leave.”
“No Loki, look-” Steve sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “You don’t have to tell me what your nightmare was about. You don’t even have to tell me why you suddenly turned blue. It’s just… I had a nightmare too. And I’m going to the kitchen to get some water. Will you come with me?”
Loki hesitates for a moment, but then he nods.
They sit together in complete silence in the kitchen for what feels an eternity, before Steve finally speaks up.
“I don’t think I’ve had that nightmare in years.” In his peripheral vision he notices that he catches Loki’s attention. “The plane. Crashing it into the ice.” Steve smiles wryly. “Most people assume that I got knocked out by the impact. But I was awake for the whole thing. When the cockpit flooded… my arms and legs were broken from the crash, but I could already feel them knitting together even as I was running out of oxygen.
“I don’t know what got to me first- the cold, or the lack of air.”
It feels weird, but also strangely relieving to tell this to Loki. The only other person he’d ever mentioned this to was the therapist that SHIELD provided him after he’d first woken up. The therapist had nodded in understanding even though Steve could see her thinly-veiled horror, but Loki is merely looking at him with alert and assessing eyes. A far cry from the wild look he’d sported earlier.
“I’m sorry,” Loki finally says. “I must’ve been the cause of that. My Jotunn form… the cold…”
“Jotunn?” Steve asks, latching onto the unfamiliar term.
Loki doesn’t say anything for a moment, but then he sighs.
“Well as you know, I’m adopted,” he begins with a humourless smile. “Jotunn. Not Asgardian. What you saw just then is my true form, if you will. A monstrous, hideous creature of the cold- even the touch of our skin gives our enemies ice burn.”
Steve frowns.
“But you’re not monstrous or hideous,” he says.
Loki stares at him, then laughs, a tad hysterically.
“You would say that about someone who made you relive your own nightmares? Someone who attempted to enslave your race? Or did our little game of pretend make you forget that already?”
“It was an accident,” Steve says. “If it makes you feel better, I broke a bedside table once because of a nightmare. And as for New York…” Steve sighs, and looks Loki in the eye. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forgive that. But in case I haven’t made it obvious enough, I’m trying to move on from it. And I know that you’re definitely trying to move on from it too. I think that’s what matters for now.
“And besides,” Steve tries to smile. “I don’t think it’s possible for you to look hideous.”
Loki narrows his eyes.
“Steve,” he says warningly, but Steve only laughs.
“Oh, so you’re the only one allowed to compliment me on my appearance?” Loki’s pinched expression prompts the edges of Steve’s lips to quirk upwards in amusement, and he adds, “I honestly don’t think you looked bad- just different. But just as beautiful as you usually do.”
Steve nearly slaps himself when the last part accidentally slips out. He fervently prays for himself to spontaneously develop the ability to vanish from existence when Loki stares at him with wide eyes. But just before Steve can backtrack, give an excuse, anything, Loki clears his throat.
“And what exactly do you mean by that?” Loki’s expression is carefully blank, and Steve feels his heart pounding so fast he’s surprised he hasn’t passed out yet.
This is so stupid. He hasn’t even had the time to really think about the… feelings he’s been having for the other man.
And yet-
“I want to stop pretending,” Steve suddenly blurts out, and god damn it, what is wrong with him?
Loki goes completely expressionless.
“What.”
Steve licks his lips nervously, but he refuses to avert his gaze.
“I want to stop pretending because I want it to be real,” he ploughs on, because that’s his only option now. “I… I don’t think I’ve been pretending, to be honest. At least not for a while.”
Shock and surprise flood Loki’s face and he stares at Steve as if he’s seeing him for the first time.
“Steve…” he begins, but he trails off, still struck speechless.
“I’m sorry if that’s not what you want,” Steve quickly says. “We can forget this conversation ever happened.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Loki scoffs before surging forward and capturing his lips in a kiss.
Steve tries to put all of his feelings- the unstoppable urge to smile or laugh when he sees Loki do the same, the way his heartbeat accelerates in his presence, and the pure ecstasy that this is happening, this is real- into the kiss. It seems to work, because he feels Loki smile against his lips in response.
They break off briefly, but Steve runs his hand down Loki’s hair and grabs a fistful of it, using the grip to tug him down again. Loki follows without complaint, even moaning into Steve’s mouth in response.
They continue kissing, again and again, until the darkness outside bleeds away into dawn.
“You know,” Steve says, as the commercial break begins. “I think Thor tried to give me the shovel talk.”
Loki shifts on the couch next to him to stare at him incredulously.
“Shovel talk?”
“The ‘If you hurt him, I’ll hurt you’ talk.” Steve pauses. “Except I think he was trying to tell me that if I hurt you, then you’d ruin my life.”
“You Midgardians and your strange ways with words,” Loki mutters, almost fondly. “Thor is unbelievable, so of course he did that. What else did he say?”
“Uh.” Steve suddenly regrets bringing this up at all. “He mentioned the Grandmaster?”
The colour abruptly drains from Loki’s face. He grabs the nearest cushion and promptly buries his face into it.
“For fuck’s sake, Thor. ”

headcanon: on showcases and gender.
it’s a well-known fact that in canon, only females are allowed to participate in showcases. this is the gateway to a huge can of worms, which i’ll talk about here.
Showcases as a Feminist Initiative
the first showcase was actually held for quite the opposite purpose as showcases are held today. instead of being a field dominated mainly by wealthy women who sought to please the male gaze, it was a movement by lower-middle class and working-class women. in an age where many women were forbidden from using pokémon at all, and in which pokémon use for entertainment was seen as a properly masculine domain, this was seen as an important step toward womens’ empowerment. the original reason why showcases are women-only is because it was a place for women to show that they were capable of handling pokémon just as well as their male counterparts.
however, as time wore on, pragmatics began to weigh on the burgeoning movement. not a lot of people were interested in or wanted to support the “antics” of these working-class girls who thought they could control their pokémon better than the men they worked with. when the derosier family offered to give them a future, the head of the showcase industry--a woman named michelle bisset--couldn’t say no. she and her girls loved performing so much and more than anything they wanted a chance to show the world that they were good performers, so they had to make a concession: pretty themselves up more, and do it for the men. the most notable change became to get rid of the battling phase, as women battling was still considered unladlylike. the joke was on the derosiers, though--nowadays, contests with battling phases are much more popular than showcases without them, and female coordinators are often more popular than showcase performers. moreover, showcases did make an impact that allowed women to be more accepted in traditional battling--and later paved the way for contests to become an accepted genre of pokémon entertainment for women.
(side note: the showcase industry has changed hands multiple times before falling back into the hands of alexandre derosier. more on that later.)
Monsieur Pierre’s Past And Showcases’ Future
i’ve always headcanoned that monsieur pierre, the main emcee of all major showcases, is the child of palermo, a world-famous kalos queen and the biggest name in showcases today other than algerian-born lalla mokrani, the founder of pokémon contests in kalos and the most notable kalos queen of the modern age. as a child, he won the title of junior kalos queen, and as a teen, he competed in the regular competition so that he could reach his mother’s height. but as he continued to perform and to strive for the title of kalos queen, he always felt there was something wrong. though he loved being in the spotlight, he never quite felt comfortable with being a girl. he wanted to dress up not in frilly skirts but in suit and tie; he wanted to not be known as michelle, like the woman who’d “sold out” the showcase industry, but as pierre, like the grandfather he so admired.
after years of wrestling with these feelings, he closed his eyes and hoped that his grandfather would be smiling down from heaven at his choice: he publicly came out as trans, and stepped down from the stage.
his mother refused to speak to him for years.
he tried to forget about all that by diverting his energy and his performative talents into the coordinating industry, which was inclusive of all genders in terms of who could go onstage. meanwhile, his mother tried to forget that she even had a child, always changing the subject when people brought up pierre, always referring to him by his birth name and as “my daughter.” simply by not filling her shoes he had disappointed her; not to mention, this was long before the trans identity started to become more accepted, so she could hardly understand her son’s decision. but as the years went by, pierre found that he could not brush away his mother so easily--he thought of her and her rejection constantly, to the point that he wanted to die. but unbeknownst to him, palermo’s heart was starting to change--she missed her son desperately, and the fact that as the years passed cis people grew more accepting of trans people weighed on her mind a lot. every day she looked herself in the mirror and thought, am i really going to push away my only child because he’s trans?
and finally, she decided the answer to that question would be no.
she was the first one to reach out to him. she called him by his proper name and said she couldn’t be sorry enough for what she’d done to him, and that she wanted another chance to be his mother like she should have been. there was a part of pierre that wanted to just push her away and be done with her, but he had missed her so much that he couldn’t bear to do it. shakily, the two of them embraced. she allowed him to return to the pokémon showcase scene as emcee, where he gladly stepped up to show that trans people do have a place in showcases and to help young girls achieve their dreams. nowadays things are still tense between them, but at the very least, they seem to be getting better.
now how does this influence the performing industry? for one thing, trans girls, gender-neutral and genderfluid people were historically not allowed to compete in showcases, but pierre has been advocating for their inclusion. he’s also a big supporter of men getting to take part in showcase activity, and thinks it would be nice for young boys to learn that it’s okay to be interested in something so greatly associated with femininity. far from being just the guy who announces stuff, pierre plays a very active role in the showcase community in trying to assure more inclusion and more breaking down of stereotypes--he was instrumental in lifting the ban on trans girls in showcases. he sees this as a pathway back to the original spirit of showcases: proving that everybody can be a capable performer and deserves a place onstage.
Alexandre Derosier’s Dark Influence
things took a dark turn, however, when alexandre derosier bought the showcase industry from its previous owner. adam charpentier knew that alexandre was a transphobic, xenophobic, classist fuckwad who would send the showcase scene back into the dark ages into which it had fallen--but he sold it to alexandre anyway because he also sensed that the showcase industry would take a sharp decline in popularity and he didn’t want to be at the head of the ship when the industry finally failed. things happened just as adam had predicted: alexandre reinstituted the ban on trans girls in showcases, and upheld the bans on gender-neutral and genderfluid people participating. he also stripped pierre of his junior kalos queen title, the same way people tried to strip caitlyn jenner of her olympic medals. apart from that, some of the worst things he’s done include: subtly implying that nonwhite contestants don’t deserve to be kalos queen (in spite of palermo being jewish and lalla being algerian). hiking up performer registration prices to turn a profit and exclude those from working-class backgrounds (whose performances he insisted were always worse in quality). making inappropriate sexual comments about teenaged contestants in private, and appearing backstage in the changing rooms à la trump at the miss universe pageant. the list goes on.
overall, ursula doesn’t give a crap about who is and isn’t allowed to compete. in fact, she thought it was better that so many people are excluded based on gender because it means less competition for her. she would never say that out loud, and she isn’t particularly vocal about her transphobia re: showcases, but everyone knows it’s what she’s thinking on the inside since she’s always deafeningly silent whenever the debate about gender inclusion comes up in the showcase community. at home, however, when nobody’s listening? monsieur pierre is the subject of some extremely nasty jokes by the derosiers, and palermo gets dragged down with him because she chose to take his side. as the successor to the showcase industry, ursula is poised to be just as bad as her father with regards to social justice--that is, unless someone can get her malleable young mind to see differently.

pronouns. he/him.
sexual orientation. predominately panromantic demisexual. it isn’t so much so that luca is completely disinterested in sex (he’s got a perfectly good libido, thank you very much), he just doesn’t find himself sexually attracted to people based on physical appearance or initial impressions. instead he finds personality, intellect, and existing emotional attachment considerably more compelling. the idea of intimacy with somebody he’s not close with rather repulses him.
current residence. boston, massachusetts.
religion. he was raised roman catholic but converted to spiritual agnosticism when he was fifteen. he views that universal ethics and love are far more important than claims about any deity and trivialize the arguments supporting or rejecting such claims. to luca, it doesn’t matter which religion someone might follow, nor does it matter whether or not someone believes in god. what matters is what someone does, not what they believe. he has his parents’ full support in his switch even though the rest of his family practices catholism.

- his parents had him when they were both young.
- luca was also born out of wedlock, so by the time his parents decided to marry two years after he was born, his parents had already made the decision to give him his mother’s maiden name even though his father’s surname is polish.
- growing up, he had and still does, have a great relationship with his parents. with his childhood consisting nothing more than love and devotion from his parents, luca had nothing to complain about. his parents loved him dearly, whose pure heart and open-mindedness they helped to cultivate. they encouraged luca’s belief in extraordinary things and hoped he had carried it throughout his life growing up. his parents had always made him promise to have courage and be kind to others, for—as they explained to him—kindness has power, and that they would see him through all the trials that life could offer, in life and death.
- cancer/mental illness tw: when he was thirteen, his mother had been diagnosed with cervical cancer. upon hearing the news, luca’s whole world clasped. not only was he at a pivotal stage in his life where everything was changing and becoming more stressful ( becoming a teenager, starting high school, going through puberty ), one of the most important people in his life had be claimed by the deadly disease altogether. so many thoughts and feelings were going through his mind at the time, that he ran himself physically sick and had experienced his first panic attack. he has since been medically diagnosed with panic disorder. thankfully the cells on his mother’s cervix were diagnosed at precancerous stage and the doctors were able to treat it because it developed and spread. however, that didn’t and doesn’t stop luca from being in a constantly state of panic every time his mother so much as feels pain or coughs due to irrelevant reasons. the entire year had changed him and his family for a while.
- he has brother, who is three years younger than him, named tomás. his relationship with his brother, however, is a bit estranged. as much as he loves his brother and wishes they could see eye-to-eye, sometimes they have a tendency to butt heads often. whether that might mean your typical sibling arguments or full-on blown out fights, they just can’t seem to see get along. sometimes people believe they aren’t actually related or that they’re half siblings because when his brother was born, he took their father’s last name.
- most people would describe luca as the benevolent. despite being in a world where there’s hatred and suffering, luca declares himself independent and strong-willed by remaining kind-hearted and self-loving, not allowing the bitterness surrounding his life to overtake him and morph him into someone as cruel as the world seems to be every day. he makes the most of his life by remaining optimistic of the possibilities of a brighter future. but besides that, he’s also witty and sarcastic. he is unafraid to stand up for himself when he feels he’s in the right–or at least, attempt to do so. and although he strives to contain his optimism aura, he can fall into fits of frustration and annoyance quite often.
- he’s also super quiet and shy. he loves to make friends but because of his quiet complex, he usually has trouble speaking up and making his voice heard. he tends to become flustered a lot too when he can’t express his emotions; which he has trouble doing anyway when he’s not flustered.
- luca is capable of enduing tremendous hardship. though he may not handle difficulty in the healthiest or best way, often repressing emotion, he mostly like emerges on the other side. he doesn’t know how to express his emotions in a diplomatic way, but rather fumbles it all up and starts to ramble. rarely opens up because of this.
- to put it plan and simple luca is an art ho. luca always loved anything artistic. even when he was little, he would go around with his disposable camera and take pictures of everything and then take to paper to draw of all the things he had taken pictures of as well.

Everyone needs to have Maja Kristina on their radar immediately. She is an incredible artist that is straight out of our pop dreams. Her whole self-titled EP is absolute perfection. Maja has released the song ‘Jessica’ off her EP as a single, and she couldn’t have made a better pick. ‘Jessica’ is a new take on a breakup song that we hope to see much more of. It’s written with the mindset that the person that cheated is at fault, not the person they cheated with. That is the mindset everyone needs to have! Maja sings, “Cause she seems really nice, and I think in the end, Me and Jessica could be friends.” We love to see women lifting up other women, instead of adding to the teardown. It’s a breath of fresh air. Normalize shaming cheaters, but not other manipulated women. [via The Honey Pop]

Lucia & The Best Boys have shared a new video for ‘Forever Forget’. It’s a cut from the band’s recent EP The State Of Things, it arrives alongside the news that their upcoming support tour with Dream Wife has moved back to 2022. Speaking about the video, director Rianne White says: “'Forever Forget' is a landscape of a feeling. Lucia and I wanted to create a piece of choreography that exists in a solo otherworldly space shaken up by an unsettling sensation of feeling trapped. Guarded by multiple camera perspectives, this movement sequence is shattered like a mirror into pieces and dominated by a blinding sensation of overwhelm, refracting the internal electricity of the brain into view. This video is a portrait of inner turbulence, liberated by Lucia’s untamed and magnetic expression of self. Frontwoman Lucia Fairfull adds: “The 'Forever Forget' video concept has kept completely true to the meaning of the song, 'Baby you've taken me to higher places. It hurts if it's just in my head', is the first lyrics of the chorus. The video portrays this with an other-worldly head trapped space, along with the choreography expressing a state of wanting to escape your own mind and thoughts. The lyrics throughout speak directly about wishing you still had what you once did, but having to face the reality that it is no more, and then trying to erase the memories from your head and move on. Making videos has always been one of my favourite parts about being an artist and over the last year I’ve really detached myself from the idea that I need to be perceived in a certain way and have enjoyed being more adventurous with Visuals. I have imagery almost as soon as I’ve written a song so bringing it to life, and creating different characters to go with them is something I really feel helps to get across what I'm saying. I couldn't have brought these ideas to life ('Perfectly Untrue' & 'Forever Forget') without Rianne and Furmaan, and can’t wait to make more with them.” [via Dork]

Foxes has returned with news of her forthcoming EP Friends In The Corner, alongside sharing new cut 'Kathleen' to accompany the announcement. 'Kathleen' is Foxes' first release of 2021, and follows December's 'Hollywood', which will appear on her upcoming EP alongside last year's 'Friends In The Corner', 'Love Not Loving You' and 'Woman' singles. The new track is produced by Courage (Stormzy, MNEK, Ray BLK) and Charlie Hugall (Halsey, Florence and the Machine), and is an ode to her grandmother Kathleen. Foxes, real name Louisa Rose Allen, says of the single, "My grandma, Kathleen, has always given really good advice so on one visit I thought, ‘why am I not recording this?’. A couple of weeks later in the studio I happened to be going through my voice notes of random melodies and lyrics I’d saved and stumbled across her words of wisdom and within 20 minutes we’d written it with all her advice from the notes. I kept that exact recording of her talking at the end of the song. I don't think I’d be a songwriter without her." She adds, "For me, 'Kathleen' closes the chapter of the last year. Focussing on creativity during lockdown has been essential for me – it’s given me so much strength and positivity. Almost without realising, I ended up writing a whole new album. The new songs have a really different energy and need to exist together as a record. But first I need to release 'Kathleen' as it’s such a special song for me and just seems so right for now. It felt right to wrap these songs up together as an EP before the new album gets released later this year." [via Line Of Best Fit]

The Sydney-based three-piece Middle Kids release the cinematic title track and video from their hotly anticipated second album, Today We’re The Greatest, out now via Lucky Number One. 'Today We’re The Greatest' features a heartachingly beautiful performance from lead singer Hannah Joy and showcases the juxtaposition of her compelling songwriting. The grandiose and romantic notion of the song’s title is offset by the repeated refrain “life is gory and boring sometimes” which both closes the song and also the album – reveling equally in the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. About the song, Hannah explains: “This is a simple song of people being TINY and our lives being FLEETING but in that we are EPIC and GREAT. It’s finding the beauty and majesty of the every day. Therein lies life and meaning. LIFE IS GORY AND BORING SOMETIMES: it’s both hectic and mundane and we have to accept both.” 'Today We’re The Greatest' is accompanied by a stunning music video directed by W.A.M. Bleakley and filmed on the Kiama costal path in Australia.

Pacific Northwest native pop singer ALITA has released her new music video 'I’m Not Your Mother'. The video is a 50's inspired homage to empowerment and subverting antiquated gender roles. It was co-produced by ALITA & Zach Nicita (VERITE, Anne Marie, MS MR), and co-written by ALITA & Grammy-award-winning songwriter Jesse Saint John (Lizzo - Truth Hurts). “I wanted to create a visual world that put the song into a little more context," exlplains ALITA. "The song has a lot of classic & almost retro influences, from the old movie voices of women to the genre-blending pop, r&b, soul production. I wrote, ‘I’m Not Your Mother’ as a reflection on my own relationships, but I also know how shared of an experience this is for so many women. I see it every day in my friends' relationships, in my own family dynamics, in media. It’s constant. So we pulled in moments from old movies & tried to sprinkle in some history into the song as well. For the video, I wanted to honor the sonic storytelling with an exploration of the modern and classic roles women play. I wanted it to be a little weird & left of center, so there’s a lot of strange Easter eggs throughout the video. We’ve evolved as a species over the years, thank God, but instead of women being expected to be a homemaker, for example, there’s still this expectation for women to take care of and take responsibility for the men in our lives. It just may look a little different than it did 50 years ago. The application has changed, but the subtleties and impact remain. My goal was to tip my hat to that in the video, and just make something that looked nice.”

Glüme's Instagram bio reads "Walmart Marilyn," offering a succint intro to the LA-based artist's DIY approach to old school Hollywood glamor. She recently signed to Italians Do It Better, making her label mates with Chromatics and Glass Candy with whom she shares a penchant for bittersweet and melodic synth-pop, the perfect backdrop for a struggling ingénue. This week she debuts 'What Is A Feeling,' taken from her forthcoming debut album The Internet, due next month. 'What Is A Feeling' was written after Glüme, who has the rare heart condition Prinzmetal angina, was informed that her emotional health was starting to affect her physical condition. Over a chugging bassline and drum claps she questions the very make-up of her existence, asking questions including "What makes me work?" and "What makes me hurt?" Not even a doctor's orders can keep her away from temptation though, with the chaos of conflicting feelings tied up tight in the song's restrictive confines. “I had a doctor once tell me my feelings were doing my heart more harm than good," Glüme says via email. "I left wanting to completely disassemble my emotions and throw them in the trash. I studied emotions from physical and philosophical perspectives to see if I could outsmart them. But feeling less wasn't an option.” The Internet is out on April 30 via Italians Do It Better. [via The FADER]

Singer, songwriter, and producer ZAND is known for their uniquely brash brand of self-described ugly pop, and the iconic look that accompanies it is almost as distinctive. New single 'Bald Bitch' is ZAND’s most compelling earworm yet, its crunchy synthesised bassline driving beneath Blackpool accented pseudo-rap and the buzz of an electric razor. It’s the fourth and final cut to be lifted from last year’s Ugly Pop EP. ZAND isn’t afraid of controversial subject matter, with previous singles tackling topics such as misogyny and the stigma of sex work. 'Bald Bitch' is no exception to this trend, with ZAND squaring up to and superficial detractor chosing to comment on their appearance. 'Bald Bitch' is the next installment in the story of an artist who refuses to cow to convention. [via Line Of Best Fit]

Korean-American musician Jessi says she hopes her new song ‘What Type of X’ will inspire listeners to be “more confident”. The singer-rapper noted that “the most crucial thing” for her is self-love and how important it was for ‘What Type Of X’ to reflect that. “I am a woman of strong mentality and for me, loving myself is the most crucial thing. If you do not love yourself, nobody will do so. On top of that, you have to be surrounded by people who give off positive vibes,” she said. “Through the song, I want to tell people to be more confident and hope they remember that being different is not wrong.” Jessi co-wrote ‘What Type of X’ with Psy, who is the head of her agency P Nation. Psy. She shared that the lyrics were originally written in English before Psy helped to translate them, adding that the duo “did not argue as much as we did in the past while working together”. The singer also noted that, compared to her previous releases, she did not have as much time to prepare for this comeback. Calling herself a “perfectionist”, Jessi added that she feels like she is not fully ready to perform the song on stage yet, although she says she’s “quite content with the single’s quality”. Newcastle-based trio Cat Ryan have shared the official video for their latest indie-pop stunner ‘Mary Shelley Song’. The band has this to say on the clip: “Our film student friends, Briana and Gabi offered to film a music video for us and it was the first opportunity we’d had to film a professional kind of video. The first thought I had was to have a film noir style video. I think Lucas came up with a loose storyline and the idea to have it in reverse. We all quite liked the idea of a murder plot and with some tweaking of the narrative and, with the help of Briana and Gabi, the ideas came to life.”

Congratulations Kate you’ve been accepted to Crimson Revolt as Rita Skeeter
↳ please refer to our character checklist
We love having a Rita on the dash to stir things up and your application for Rita was really wonderful. Your mock blog was a great peek into your Rita. Each part of your app painted a picture of who Rita is and I am more intrigued than ever. She has so many layers that make up the person she is and how she’s involved in the war.
application beneath the cut
OUT OF CHARACTER
INTRODUCTION
Katie, 26, she/her, pst
ACTIVITY
Around a 6, mostly active in the evenings, occasionally in the mornings but at least once a day for a few hours.
HOW DID YOU FIND US?
My friend April told me about it
WHAT HARRY POTTER CHARACTER DO YOU IDENTIFY WITH MOST?
Hermione was always my favorite as she was a strong female for me to identify with at an early age. She was intelligent and capable of anything she put her mind to. Plus, her loyalty to those who’s morals she aligned with is something that all should use as a role model.
ANYTHING ELSE?
I know I had messaged about Molly, however after writing out apps for both girls, it turned out that Rita was calling me just a bit more.

REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER
Rita is a character that I’ve honestly usually stayed away from strictly because of how she is portrayed in the books as basically being an eavesdropping, mudslinging bitch. Yet, after reading the few short lines of her bio, I realized that she doesn’t have to be just those two adjectives. Instead she can be someone who simply knows what they want and will do what they need to get it. She has the ability to be sweet and charming if it will get her one step closer to the top, otherwise all hell lets loose and leaves the person who had crossed her wondering what they were thinking in doing so. She’s a character that everyone would assume to be placed in Slytherin based on her initial layer, however when you really dig deep you start to see the intelligence and wit that had her placed in Ravenclaw. She’s the kind of person that keeps everyone at a distance, but if you’re capable of getting close to her, oh the person you’d meet. You’d learn about her hobbies, her love for dogs, even though she has cats, and most of all her love of actual conversation with people. My goal is to pull back the layers of Rita as well as let her stir up a little bit of trouble with her natural tendency to overhear things, always on accident of course.
PREFERRED SHIPS // CHARACTER SEXUALITY // GENDER & PRONOUNS
Rita identifies as she/her and is very proud of being a female. She takes it to the extreme by flaunting her femininity. Her closet is bursting at the seems, and in need of another enlarging charm, filled with clothes that are either tight fitting and cling to her in all the right places, or flowing and revealing in all the right places. Her vanity is covered with makeup of all kinds, and she knows that just the right perfume can make anyone spill their secrets. As for her sexuality, Rita is heterosexual and is more than willing to move from one bed to the other throughout the week.

IN CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE
♔ If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it? Feel free to name it:
An Eavesdropping spell. It’s so hard to be somewhere and everywhere all at once. This would allow for me to overhear anything that I might be missing. I’m always worried that in the cut throat world of journalism someone might get a tip that I missed and there goes the story of the century.
♔ You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one other character and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you’d want with you
Remus Lupin, it seems like he spends an awful lot of time there already so he might be the best option to get around after dark. And then for one object, does a house elf count? Because if so, I’d bring that since I could use them as bait.
♔ What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?
Ones that are close to the heart and my family. Even though I might seem like an ice queen, there are still things that warm my chest and I wouldn’t be able to stand seeing them hurt, especially my father. But that’s a story for another day.
♔ What is one thing you would never want said about you?
That I lived a boring life.
REACTION TO LAST EVENT DROP
She’d feel ill at ease mixed with relief. With the Death Eaters being in control of the ministry she knows that she at least is safe with her job and not having to be in hiding for supporting the wrong party, however her heart aches (a deep ache that she pretends doesn’t exist) for those that have lost their families. A part of her wonders how much darker the world will get and if she will soon be called to serve the Dark Lord by starting to use her powers of eavesdropping to really bring out those in the Order and have to delv
WRITING SAMPLE
“It’s just not like him!”
The shrieking voice trembled before it was hushed and both woman looked Rita’s way. Raising an eyebrow, the blonde shook her head at the two of them before pretending to focus on her notes for a story. She knew why they looked at her, they were causing a scene and it appeared like everyone who worked for the Daily Prophet knew better than to cause a scene in front of Rita Skeeter. If only that worked.
“He’s just become so violent, so wrapped up in the war, so…” the woman who was near hysterics paused, and Rita had to force herself to not actually lean forward in an attempt to get the woman to finish the statement. Last thing she wanted was for them to realize was that she was still listening, “Passive.”
Scoffing slightly, Rita rolled her eyes and stood up from her desk letting the noise of her heels send everyone scattering farther into the depths of the office. Handing off her notes to a house elf she threw her jacket on and stepped out into the freezing cold wind. She could apparate home, but with the way things had been going lately she knew she would get a better story if she walked.
It had never been her intent to make the other members of the Daily Prophet hate or fear her words. She had simply just been trying to make a career. When she had fallen into the gossip columnist job, the last thing she had wanted was to make it stick. She had a goal to get through her required time in the station and then move on quickly and easily to something new. However, she had failed in that aspect in would seem. Instead of getting praise, a raise and a new title, she got praise, raise, and her own office. One far away from the desks of her co workers who had apparently complained about their affairs ending up on page 8 of the Prophet for their spouses to read. And now, with the war getting more and more intense it seemed as if her job was never ending when it came to revealing who worked on what side. She knew that she was at fault for a few auror raids as well death eater attacks, but it’s not her fault entirely. It never was. She just always happened to be in the know of a death eater who had betrayed their Lord, and as for the death eater attacks? Well, the weak don’t need to survive, and in her mind those not on the same side as her were always weaker.
Sighing softly, she paused in front of a coffee shop on Diagon Alley and listened to the couple standing outside. Simply a lovers quarrel. Nothing she needed to know about. But as she rounded a corner it was the word on the ground that made her stop in her tracks and cock her head to the side. Aversio.
She had heard it mentioned here or there and of course had made note of it, but this was her first time seeing it in person. Pulling out a quill and a notebook, Rita quickly noted the names of the lover’s nearby and the location. She had a story, and the ability to write a little bit and ruin some lives. Without having a second thought, she put the names next to the word on the paper and soon, a paragraph was wrote that could lead to two people being dead in the morning.

INTRODUCING,
» francisco lachowski & twenty-two & cismale.「 after checking isabella’s diary, we saw luca rosario show up many times. apparently, he is a fashion photographer that isabella called her mutual friend. she mentions that they can be compassionate yet naive, and our background check says luca has lived here one month. if we move fast, we might catch them at the photo lab. 」
Tumblr media
waddup, peeps ?? this tiny bean goes by the name of rue ( she/her ) and i’ll be playing Soft Boy™, luca rosario. he’s pretty much a new faceclaim for me with an old character’s background. however, francisco has recently become my forever Fave, therefore i’m so excited to have the opportunity to play him !! if you would like to hmu for plots / scream about connections all day long, please give this a LIKE and i’ll come wiggling into your ims ( or discord; find me at justrue#2233 ) shortly after. under the cut, you’ll find a brief summary about luca and his life. also all my wcs are listed over HERE if you wanna check that out as well. can’t wait to start interacting !!
+ disclaimer: very slight talks of cancer and mental health are below. read at your discretion.
LAYER ONE: THE STATS.
NAME. luca leonardo rosario. he was born out of wedlock, so he took his mother’s name at birth even though his father’s surname is polish.
ALIAS. people usually just call him by luca but sometimes luke, luki, or leo make an appearance.
TITLE. over time, he has proudly deemed himself an obsessive pizza addict, artistic nutcase, or one of the missing dead poets society members.
NAME MEANING. his true significance of his name means a bringer of light.
AGE. twenty-two years old.
GENDER IDENTITY. cis-male.
PRONOUNS. he/him.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION. predominately panromantic demisexual. it isn’t so much so that luca is completely disinterested in sex (he’s got a perfectly good libido, thank you very much), he just doesn’t find himself sexually attracted to people based on physical appearance or initial impressions. instead he finds personality, intellect, and existing emotional attachment considerably more compelling. the idea of intimacy with somebody he’s not close with rather repulses him.
CURRENT RESIDENCE. he currently lives in venice, california but he travels quite often for his job, so residency usually fluctuates depending on how long he stays there.
BIRTHPLACE. san paulo, brazil.
NATIONALITY. brazilian.
ETHNICITY. half portuguese and german on mother side, half polish on father side.
RELIGION. he was raised roman catholic but converted to spiritual agnosticism when he was eighteen. he views that universal ethics and love are far more important than claims about any deity and trivialize the arguments supporting or rejecting such claims. to luca, it doesn’t matter which religion someone might follow, nor does it matter whether or not someone believes in God. what matters is what someone does, not what they believe. he has his parents’ full support in his switch even though the rest of his family practices catholism.
SPOKEN LANGUAGES. portuguese (fluent/main), english (fluent/2nd main), french (still learning but can understand it quite well).
EDUCATION. graduated with the bachelor of fine arts in photography and painting at the school of visual arts in nyc.
PROFESSION. he works as a full-time fashion/commercial photographer. meaning, he works with different agencies such as fashion magazines, building, modeling, landscapes, etc. he’s also usually on location and travels a lot for his career.
LAYER TWO: THE STORY.
- so this is my baby boy, luca rosario and i love him sm ?? he usually goes by luca, but on occasion people call him either luke, luki, or leo. but he doesn’t care what people call him as long as it’s kind.
- luca was born in san paulo, brazil to both loving and supportive parents named jeremi and mariana. he lived there until he was six years old when his family moved to maryland because his parents, who are both marine biologists, were relocated for work.
- his parents had him when they were both young, making his parents both twenty-two when he was born.
- luca was also born out of wedlock, so by the time his parents decided to marry two years later, his parents had already made the decision to give him his mother’s maiden name even though his father’s last name is polish.
- to put it plan and simple luca is an art ho. he even went to university for it too ( the audacity of it all smh ). luca always loved anything artistic. even when he was little, he would go around with his disposable camera and take pictures of everything and then take to paper to draw of all the things he had taken pictures of as well.
- when he turned seventeen, luca decided he wanted to go to college after high school. so he applied to an arts school in new york and graduated at twenty-one with two degrees in photography and painting.
- for about a year after graduating, he took some time to create his own freelance business while also looking for jobs in the commercial and industrial world of photography. about a three months ago, a fashion agency, settled in california, had contacted him about loving the work he had done in his freelance business and offered him a job as their full-time photographer. of course he accepted the job and moved out to venice, california. he’s been there for a whole month and hasn’t looked back since.
- upon hearing the news of isabella souza’s murder and also being a suspect in the case, luca’s kind of been on edge since. granted, he never knew isabella all that well, considering he met her through a mutual friend of theirs about as long as he’s lived in venice and became rather decent friends because of it. but to know someone killed her, freaks him out. he never met someone who has been a victim of a homicide case before and frankly, he doesn’t know how to act since the news broke.

Although remote learning is a poor substitute for actual classroom instruction, at least one good result has come out of it — parents are beginning to learn what their kids are actually being taught — and what’s being ignored.
A Tennessee father was surprised at what his daughter was learning in her second grade Nashville English class.
Instead of reading about the adventures Dick, Jane and their dog Spot, one of her English books was titled, "Martin Luther King, Jr. and the March on Washington."
If the father, Grant Benson, was surprised at this, he was also initially pleased. He thought, "Great. She will learn the inspirational and vital story of the civil rights movement."
His pleasure was short-lived, however. Investigating further, he discovered his daughter was being spoon-fed what he believed was rubbish.
"My issue with this book is it literally teaches children that blacks and whites are not treated equally," Benson, who is the founder of Breaking 911, a web-based news site wrote. "In my life they are. In my home they are. In my daughter’s mind, we are equal."
Another "English" book, "Separate Is Never Equal," was more troubling — especially for Benson’s 7-year-old daughter.
"This book struck me as teaching my child that all white people are racist," he said. "More troubling than that, the book seems to insinuate to children of color that all white people are racist or against them in some way."
Perhaps in response to objections like these being raised by parents like Benson, another Tennessee school district took steps to prevent similar problems.
Claiming alleged "student privacy" concerns, parents of students who attend Rutherford County Schools (RCS) were told that they had to agree to refrain from monitoring their child’s online classes, according to The Tennessee Star.
"RCS strives to present these opportunities in a secure format that protects student privacy to the greatest extent possible, however because these meetings will occur virtually RCS is limited in its ability to fully control certain factors such as non-student observers that may be present in the home of a student participating in the virtual meeting," a form sent to parents began.
"RCS strongly discourages non student observation of online meetings due to the potential of confidential information about a student being revealed."
The form asked parents for their signature, warning that "violation of this agreement may result in RCS removing my child from the virtual meeting."
Without surprise, the notice raised alarm bells throughout the district, and the rules were relaxed. Parents could monitor the classes but were warned not to record them.
Those "student privacy" concerns aren’t necessarily a two-way street, however.
Police searched the home of a Baltimore family when BB guns were observed in an 11-year-old student’s Zoom classroom session. He’s using them for his gun safety and marksmanship class in a quest to become an Eagle Scout.
Police were also called to the home of a 7-year-old Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-area student because a toy gun, his "favorite new thing," was observed during one of his remote classroom sessions.
This isn’t limited to grade school or even high school students.
Fordham University banned student Austin Tong from campus for exercising his First Amendment rights — not on campus, not during a remote classroom session, but on social media.
Tong, who immigrated with his parents from China, posted two photos on Instagram that the university found disturbing:
The first of slain former St. Louis police officer David Dorn, with the inscription, "Y’all are a bunch of hypocrites." Tong was upset that little media attention was given to his murder.
The second was a photo of himself holding an AR-15 firearm with the inscription, "Don’t tread on me. #198964," a reference to the date of the Tiananmen Square massacre (June 4, 1989).
The university ruled that Tong’s posts violated its policies on "bias and/or hate crimes" and "threats/intimidation."
Finally, earlier this month a New Jersey doctoral candidate faced disciplinary action for displaying a photo of President Trump in the background during a remote classroom session, because it offended his Stockholm University classmates.
Back in the day, parents were encouraged to play a role in their children’s education; now they want parents disengaged.
Back in the day, if a high school student pulled into a school parking lot and a teacher spotted a shotgun in the back window, he’d compare the student’s shotgun to his own; now a toy gun at a student’s home is enough to call in the police.
Back in the day, students were taught basic tasks to prepare them for life; now they’re taught that all white people are bad and genders are like Heinz products — there are 57 varieties.
Things worked better back in the day.
