【Chapter 1】

As the curtain of evening hung low, the colorful lanterns adorning the eaves illuminated the entire lantern festival with brilliance. 

Victor’s gaze swept to the end of the sea of people, where the girl’s form had just disappeared. He gazed in that direction for a long time, as if afraid that he would forget something. Eventually, he simply released a heavy sigh, and his breath transformed into a delicate white mist, veiling the barely perceptible hesitation in the corner of his eyes. 

The time he had bought for himself by reaching an agreement with Zero is nearly up. 

Throughout these two months, he did everything he could possibly think of, mapped out a long-term strategic plan for LFG, entrusted Souvenir to Mr. Mills... everything seemed to be perfectly arranged, except for her. 

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈ 

Victor lowered his gaze to his wristwatch, where the hands quietly advanced to the next scale, wordlessly announcing the imminent moment. He hesitated for a moment before taking a tentative half-step forward, only to come to a standstill amidst the surging tide of people. 

She had no inkling of what was to happen, and for now, it might not be a bad thing after all. 

Sure enough, the black vortex appeared on time, and the sensation of space-time distortion enveloped him instantaneously. He turned sideways and stood there, watching quietly, with the vortex signifying the path he was soon to confront. When it came to the unknown, no one could remain entirely unshaken, but Victor displayed no hesitation and even leaned into it before the magnetic force set in. 

He must ensure not to leave any room for error – this was a pledge he had made to himself in the deepest recesses of his heart.

When Victor opened his eyes again, an endless white desert sprawled across his vision, commandeering every color under the sky. 

“Now you’re finally being well-behaved.” 

The fiery sun was beating down upon the crest of the sand dunes, where an oddly dressed little boy stood, gazing down at him from the height. Victor knitted his brows and turned his gaze to the boy who was waving at him. He felt as if he had met this little boy somewhere before. 

“How about you just stick around here for now? You’ve got loads of time anyway.” 

Without leaving Victor any chance to inquire, in the blink of an eye, the white sand dunes stood utterly empty.

Victor glanced at the billowing sand and dust in the distance, and he fell into a brief moment of contemplation. The information obtained from the other party was far less than he had anticipated. But he didn’t remain paused in place for too long, turning around and heading toward the tallest nearby sand dune. 

Climbing to the highest peaks in the world often serves as a fast track to gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire picture, a feeling he had known from experience countless times before.  Even though, in his heart, he knew full well that there might not be any such thing as an “exit,” just like no one would leave the key to their shackles inside the cage. 

Nevertheless, Victor knew he must return, not only for his sake but also to honor the promise he had made to her. 

He was acutely aware of the girl’s nature, and Victor didn’t want himself to be the reason for her venturing into danger.

Victor lifted his foot and stepped beneath the sand dune, and the soft sand instantly swallowed his lower leg. Yet he merely paused for a moment before his other foot stepped onto the sand dune in the same fashion, only this time he was a bit more careful. 

As he stands now, he didn’t have the capacity to concern himself with these inconsequential matters. The sand dune at the top of his sightline was his singular focus right now. 

And by the time this goal was achieved, Victor’s palms had long been ravaged by the swirling wind and stand. Nonetheless, he unconsciously furrowed his brows, as his bright pupils seemed to mirror some kind of non-committal fact—— 

The farthest end of the horizon still held an endless expanse of white.

【Chapter 2】

In the desert, there are several things that you’re prone to lose effortlessly: hydration, the perception to gauge distance, and the concept of time. 

Victor was well aware of this fact, especially when he found himself in a barren desert. Losing the sense of time could plunge a person into a quagmire of emptiness, much like having one’s soul being trapped in the quicksand. 

He could only silently engrave the feeling of time passing in his mind, and this was his way of combating this thing otherwise known as “deathly silence.” Yet, even so, his consciousness instinctively began to blur, and “time” gradually became a noun distant enough to be elusive. 

The blistering gravel imprinted searing scars on his body, and the bone-crushing pain began to become numb, but Victor never once considered giving up. After all, in a world devoid of time, he wasn’t even allowed “death.”

This place was akin to an infinite cage, imprisoning him relentlessly within its bounds. After enduring this repetitive cycle for who knows how long, Victor drew two obvious conclusions. One of which was, this world wasn’t just composed of sand; it also held various peculiar objects. 

There were vintage radios, sharp swords, casually discarded water cups... they lay quietly buried amidst the gravel, as if they were abandoned garbage left here by someone. 

He glanced down at his own feet trapped in the sand. In this space, the way he was being treated was no different to theirs. 

A fierce sandstorm blew in from afar, streaking pale traces of blood on his lips that had long been cracked.

Victor cast a sidelong glance at the vortex behind him, and this was his second discovery. He wasn’t sure when it had materialized or what it symbolized. However, his intuition told him that he must not allow this vortex to catch up to him; otherwise, it could trigger events he was unable to predict. 

The blazing sun shone on Victor’s face, and the dripping sweat had already soaked his clothes countless times. His toes forcefully lifted from the scalding sand, only to plunge heavily into even deeper gravel. Even though every step demanded his entire strength, Victor continued pressing on relentlessly, heading toward the next sand dune in search of a way out. 

At this moment, he had lost all scales of time, and no matter how deep his footprints sunk, their trails would eventually be obliterated without a trace beneath the veil of shifting wind and sand.

The scorching sun continued to burn, and his pace gradually became sluggish. Beads of sweat constantly dripping from his forehead blurred his vision. Layer upon layer of memories projected before him like a kaleidoscope, occasionally flashing dribs and drabs of moments spent with the girl, only to disappear in the blink of an eye. He relied on the physical pain to remind himself that everything before him was merely a prolonged tug-of-war. 

Yet another sand dune, and he climbed to its summit once again. 

The distant landscape showed no signs of change, and it was still an endless expanse of white. He silently gazed up at the sky, feeling as though his body had been frozen in place by some force. A sentence floated to his mind, “Eternity is the greatest adversary of plans, not fleeting moments.”

But this “long-term failure” was also destined to be solved by long-term means. 

Victor felt the willpower he had been holding onto for so long quietly slipping away beyond his control, accompanied by sweat blurring his vision. He drew a deep breath, planning to take a short break and trying to regain some physical strength. 

This was the first time he had stopped in his footsteps, and he came to regret it soon enough. 

When he woke up again, what greeted him was the scenery of Loveland City projected in the sky, the sights that he couldn’t be more familiar with. 

His throat quivered slightly, and the sensation of being torn apart coursing throughout his body rendered him unable to move. He was left with no choice but to silently gaze at the sky.

The long-term failure, though there’s no need to explain it but I love how it’s a clever call back to the exact phrase (长远的失败) from S2 CH 31, when we first saw the “oblivion” taking effect! (T⌓T)

Even though Victor clearly knew the difference between reality and illusion, even though he was aware it was a fleeting glimmer of light not worthy of clinging to, he still couldn’t help but pause, even if it was for only a moment. Victor couldn’t help but self-derisively smile at himself— that he would actually be distracted by such a thing. 

Nevertheless, the scenery before his eyes etched an indelible mark in his heart, and at the end of that crevice was her image. Within an instant, the moments of the past gradually faded from his mind, reminiscent of sand dunes drying out in the wind. 

The girl’s silhouette kept appearing in his mind, and it was both vivid and hazy. At the same time, another question occupied his thoughts. 

She... who was she?

【Chapter 3】

He gave a reflexive nod when the girl offered to purchase some things for him while they were taking a break. 

He couldn’t fathom where this natural acceptance had come from, as if everything was inherently meant to be this way. 

The girl had also given him a name, “Vic-Vic.” Even though he was somewhat reluctant to accept it, compared to that peculiar name “Mr. Benevolent Enigma,” “Vic-Vic” always sounded nicer to hear. 

And what’s more, this name evoked an indescribable sense of familiarity within him. 

Until now, he never felt a need for anything. After all, in his memory, the concept of “possession” had never appeared.

But as he thought back to how that tireless girl joyfully gave him nicknames and passionately introduced the city, he didn’t find it displeasing. On the contrary, it was the girl’s occasional daring and imaginative actions that made him irresistibly pay more attention to this person who had suddenly appeared before him. 

He shook his head, catching a glimpse of the girl’s busy figure through the store window. Toothbrushes, pajamas, even socks and razors... she didn’t leave anything out, stuffing her shopping basket to the brim. 

The corners of his lips formed a subtle curve. It seemed that just by looking at her, an entirely novel emotion surged up in the depths of his heart, something he’d never known before. 

Even he himself couldn’t put a finger on the reason; this girl always seemed so magical–– miraculously, she brought him out of that place, and miraculously, he was allowed to embrace “life” once more.

He turned his head, taking in his surroundings. Mottled branches were sprouting tender, jade-green buds, and the area was crowded with people in a rush. 

Thump– thump–– 

Suddenly, the crisp sound of a soccer ball drew his attention. 

It was a very young boy, appearing to be at the age of having started elementary school recently. 

The boy was exerting himself to swing the soccer ball under his feet, but his amateurish footwork denoted that he was still relatively unaccustomed to instep control. 

If he keeps up with this level of force, the next kick will probably send the ball flying out— Victor subconsciously made this assessment to himself.

Sure enough, as the boy’s toe tapped the soccer ball, an overly vigorous pull at that instant caused his body to lose its natural balance. The ball, previously under control, drew a distant arc through the air following his touch, flying directly toward the middle of the road. 

“Ah, my ball!” 

As the soccer ball soared toward the center of the road, the boy could only stand there with his mouth agape, helplessly watching it move farther away from him. 

“Stopping a ball like this might not be that hard for you.” 

As this thought suddenly crossed his mind, Victor’s body reacted as if by reflex. 

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈ 

He nimbly chested the ball in front of him, and then his thighs moved up and down in fluid and graceful movements as he steadily controlled the soccer ball at his feet. 

“Here you go.” 

He gently passed the ball back. 

But the young boy simply froze in place after he caught the ball. 

“Whoa! I actually kicked a ball that had a curve! That’s so cool! I have to show everyone!” 

The young boy excitedly ran off while hugging the ball in his arms. But Victor simply remained rooted in place, gazing in the direction the little boy dashed.

It was a small park. There were swings, seesaws, a slide, and a sandbox teeming with children. Tiny little figures huddled in the sandbox, crafting a multitude of unique sand formations using their shovels and imagination. 

He found himself taking steps toward the sandbox. He couldn’t explain why; he just felt like he was following some sort of subconscious judgment. He squatted down and scooped up a handful of fine sand from the sandbox. The solid, fine grains slowly trickled through his fingers, creating a tiny cascade of sand in the air. 

He kept his eyes downcast and watched in silence like this— until the reflection of fine sand in his eyes unexpectedly rendered him somewhat lost in thought.

In a certain sense, his world had once been nothing but a boundless expanse of sand and illusory goals. He had grown accustomed to silence, accustomed to facing the future with action, and had never once considered stopping. But now, for the first time, he felt the urge to pause, as if the surging tide of time had unexpectedly encountered a minute moment of stillness. 

Suddenly, the girl’s shout reached him from a distance, akin to a gently turned gear, propelling his time forward with force. 

Everything felt so strangely familiar, as if he had already lived through all this before. But he knew for sure that he had never been through any of this in the past. Even so, in this moment, this sweeping sensation, reminiscent of a tidal wave, bestowed upon him something he had never had before. 

“Memories.”

【Chapter 4】

Countless shimmering starlight danced on the floor, and underneath the gigantic clock face, two small chairs were placed. It left one wondering whether it was a courtesy to welcome guests or the setting for some sort of interrogation. 

This is the place the man named Zero brought him to. 

“Victor, I think it’s been a while since we’ve had a chat like this.” 

...Victor. 

He silently repeated this name to himself, which felt unfamiliar yet familiar at the same time, and sunk into a sudden contemplation.

Even though there was no indication that he had found the answers to his questions, it didn’t matter at the moment; the clues were already laid out before him. 

Seemingly picking up on the wariness in Victor’s eyes, Zero attempted to change the topic. 

“You seem to be much more cautious than the last time we met.” 

“Is that so?” 

“However, apart from caution, I also see something else in your eyes.” 

“Unknown.” 

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈ 

The stifling air reverberated in the space as the two locked eyes, each seemingly filled with an element of probing. 

Zero carried on with his line of words, as if he didn’t intend to give Victor too much time to ponder. 

“I hope this doesn’t affect the deal between us.” 

Faced with Zero’s words, Victor had no plans to hide anything. He slightly straightened his posture, and his gaze held no sign of evasion. 

“You should know very well that currently, I have no idea what the deal you’re talking about is.” 

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈ 

In Zero’s probing and evaluative gaze, Victor gleaned certainty and confirmed his conjecture. 

During the brief, tense silence, Zero lifted his gaze, but his eyes were sharper than they had been moments ago. 

“But that won’t have any impact.” 

He paused, 

“For the Space-Time Bureau, the existence of ‘Victor’ in and of itself is enough.” 

“Since you can use your Evol, it won’t hinder the normal progress of the plan.” 

Victor never broke his eye contact with Zero. He was well aware that what the other party had revealed was merely the information he wanted Victor to know, and what he was purposely holding back was the crucial point.

In any case, he had to find a breakthrough in the conversation. Suddenly, something flashed in his memory: the girl’s astonished expression the moment she saw Zero. Did she also know this person? He firmly held onto this seemingly inconspicuous lead, and a notion sprang to his mind. 

It’s highly likely that his existence is connected to Loveland City. 

Victor pondered for a moment, and his mind had already formulated the next strategy. 

“Tell me about the deal you mentioned.” 

“You have to use your ability to bridge the gaps in time.” 

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈ 

“You have my word.” 

Victor’s sudden lightning-speed response caught Zero off guard. 

“However, I too have my own conditions.” 

Victor straightened his posture and cast his gaze toward the doorway. He was taking a gamble, betting that Zero wouldn’t dare to let him walk out of here, betting on his own importance in this deal. And he won the gamble. 

It seemed as if Victor had Zero’s lifeline firmly in his hands, and Zero’s expression gradually began to sink: 

“What do you want to know?”

“The execution of the deal will depend on what you’re willing to offer in exchange.” 

Victor cast a sidelong glance at Zero, then sat back down in the seat opposite Zero and lifted his head. 

“I want to know everything about myself.”

【Chapter 5】

The corridor was silent, and it was so spacious that it felt like observing the infinite expanse of deep space with the naked eye. 

Aside from the darkness of the faraway cosmos, nothing else could be seen. The clear and crisp footsteps echoed from afar, reminiscent of a tiny speck of light descending from the distant starry sky. 

Victor came to a halt at the entrance of the Space-Time Bureau, and the doors behind him silently opened. 

“Remember, do not try to use your ability to probe time.” 

“After all, your existence itself is already wrongly placed. At least, that’s what it appears for now.”

Victor lowered his gaze in acquiescence, while his feet had already taken a step forward. He had already been delayed here for too long. 

Although during this time at the Space-Time Bureau, he had finally managed to find some leads in his quest for finding himself, it was far from enough. He had never forgotten everything that happened in the disordered space, and that voice still echoed in his mind. 

Move forward, and then go find her. 

The girl’s visage appeared before him once again. He wasn’t sure if it was a hint of some sort or simply a lingering imprint of his own thoughts. Nonetheless, he had already firmly decided on his next destination: Loveland City.

When Victor returned to Loveland City again, he found himself standing on a bustling street teeming with vehicles and pedestrians. 

The hurrying crowd brushed past him. Just like before, everyone was oblivious to his existence. He took a step forward and blended into the stream of people, heading in the direction he had planned. It was all thanks to the girl’s incessant chatter back then, which had left him with enough clues. 

“Next stop: Loveland City Center.” 

Victor remained silently in place, not letting a single passing figure escape his gaze. The days continued to follow the nights, but the girl still hadn’t shown up. He brushed off his shoulders, dampened by the drizzle, and proceeded toward his next destination. Loveland City wasn’t that big, at least not as vast as the desert he had walked through.

In the garden of the central hospital, the setting sun beneath the distant overpass... and in the park where the stars adorned the sky time and time again. 

These were all the places mentioned by the girl, but Victor still hadn’t found a trace of her. 

Victor always kept thinking back to the girl’s chirping, her excited manner as she introduced these places to him, and how she would insistently clamor to have him experience them fully – and the way her eyes overflowed with sparkles when she spoke. 

Victor couldn’t help but lift the corners of his lips. He had etched these seemingly insignificant memories into his mind without missing a single detail, and it was through them that he had solidified his next goal.

A lofty building stood in the distance. 

“Loveland Financial Group (LFG).” 

He quietly murmured the signage in front of him, recalling what the girl had previously mentioned about her connection to this company. 

What appeared to be a vague hint now held a substantial hint.  “If you go there, you should be able to see her.” 

With this thought, Victor took a step forward, leaving the bustling crowd behind him.

Clack, clack, clack. 

His ears caught the hurried rhythm of footsteps, contrasting with the composed demeanor of the other people in the hall. Victor instinctively lifted his head, and in a trance, he caught sight of that familiar figure. 

His time, which had been suspended, resumed its flow forward in this very moment.

The Leaks Could Benefit Viv and Her Team

Here's a bright side to the leaks. I think it's an opportunity to market the show better this time around. The trailer for S1 dropped one year ago on December 13 2024. It officially premiered on Jan 18 2024. Only one month a part from each other.

So that meant there was no real time to actually market the show. Yes, the show already had a cult following, but there were still plenty of ppl that still had no idea what Hazbin was. The marketing was done poorly because we received a teaser over a year before the official trailer dropped. We only got "Poison" as marketing. There was no poster, a new teaser or preview/clip in 2023.

Since the majority already saw the leaks, I propose Viv and her team ONLY show scenes of the leaks in the trailer with maybe one peek at a new scene (hopefully one Charlastor scene like they did with the S1 trailer).

The following is how I think they should market S2 in 2025:

Jan- Official S2 poster (in honor of the one year anniversary of the show)

March- Behind the Scenes clip of Lilith's VA/any VA saying a couple obscure lines

May- Teaser

July- Trailer

August/Maybe September- Official Release Date for S2 eps

This is only my opinion, of course. I haven't heard anything about the official Hazbin release schedule, but I'm predicting we could get S2 some time between June- August. September at the latest because originally HH was supposed to have a summer release back in 2022, but then the writers strike pushed it to Jan 2024.

And I know what you're thinking. That probably sounds too soon? I say June-August is a high possibility because some of the leaks shown were colored. Some of what was shown for episode 2 and episode 4 was colored.

So that means that practically half the season is in the process of finishing the coloring before they fully render it. So about another 6-9 months of working on animation for 8 episodes consisting of 20 minutes each does not seem impossible. Again, this is just my opinion. Just hoping for the best here, especially since we know we won't be waiting another 5 years for a new season this time. lol

But if my time line of the release date is wrong, there's a small chance we could get HHS2 even sooner. There is a Tiktoker named Maddie's Minis with a marketing degree who analyzed HB and HH marketing schedules and the way she explains there's a possibility there could be a April 2025 release makes a lot of sense if you want to watch it.

Making this a separate tangent from an ask but I cannot stress enough how much I hate that the TPN wiki has this picture of a woman with a baby from the powerpoint ending under Isabella's anime gallery when we have the pictures of her with Gilda and of her sitting with Alicia, Jemima, and Yvette.

She either learned how to play the guitar to honor Leslie sometime after arriving in the human world, or she learned when she was a child at Grace Field, but we just never got to see her play it before. She didn’t have another biological child. “Oh, the lighting is different, that’s why the hair color doesn’t match”/“She dyed her hair” I just can’t fucking believe you lkdjflkds ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

What I would have given for there to be commentary from director Mamoru Kanbe in the S2 Blu-ray booklet like we had in S1’s or any interview with him finally confirming or disproving it's her.

Also hate how the wiki has fanart by tlieilt_625p in multiple galleries because their style is so ridiculously close to the anime canon’s style that you have people confusing their work with official art on quick glance all the time. (I was guilty of this when I first got into the series, too.)

They've deleted their twitter so I can't link directly to any of these, but even if you have countless people reuploading it without asking for permission or properly sourcing it (I also can't stress enough how much I fucking hate pinterest for this kfjsdk), Google search does corroborate this. Sometimes it's more obvious, but there are some pieces with nigh imperceptible differences.

tl;dr: take the wiki with a grain of salt regarding anything other than character birthdays cited in the mystic code book character profiles, character heights listed in the mystic code book character profiles, the interviews page (per @1000sunnygo in the tags of this post; see also here) and most of the release dates (though as of 17/2/24 pages like chapter 112 are inaccurate).

Okay, maybe in honor of the S2 release date it's time for me to reveal my own headcanon about Crowley and food.

Yes, Crowley eats. But not with Aziraphale.

Crowley's recently* became a vegan. He won't talk about it just like he won't admit to being nice, and he certainly doesn't want Aziraphale to find out -- partly because he couldn't bear to explain, and partly because he would never want his omnivorous angel to feel guilty about his own gustatory preferences.

So he drinks his coffee (black) and his wine and his whisky and he watches Aziraphale eat. Once in a while he might crave a curry or (when feeling especially demonic) some avocado toast.

*recently in human terms. He learned about it a few thousand years ago and never went back. Jain food is his favorite.

As a Fandom we have spent a long time debating whether or not Crowley actually eats. We have completely forgotten that he literally admits it.

So either the food in heaven was so bad he never ate lunch again OR Aziraphale really is that slow and Crowley has already finished desert by the time Aziraphale has ordered a starter.

There's Something About Penelope (Bridgerton, Penthony) I have plans to write Chapter 33 (which had better be the last chapter, do you hear me, brain?) this month. Can you believe it's been a year since I posted Chapter 32? I can.

Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor was born on February 27, 1932, in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London. She received dual British-American citizenship at birth, as her parents were United States citizens. The family lived in London during Taylor's childhood. In early 1939, the Taylors returned to the United States due to fear of impending war in Europe.

In California, Taylor's mother (a former stage actress) was frequently told that her daughter should audition for films. She made her screen debut in There’s One Born Every Minute (1942). She was ten years old. Two years later she played the leading role in National Velvet.  This launched a meteoric film career that won her two Oscars (1961 and 1967). 

Lucille Ball first met Elizabeth Taylor in an arranged ‘set visit’ during the shooting of 1953′s The Long, Long Trailer.  After that, they appeared twice on the same television shows, but did not share screen time.

Although she started appearing on television in the early 1950s, her scripted TV debut came in 1970 when Lucille Ball invited her to appear (along with her priceless engagement ring and her actor husband, Richard Burton) on a very special episode of “Here’s Lucy” titled “Lucy Meets the Burtons” (HL S3;E1).  

For this show, a special Guest Star credit was created. Liz got top billing!    Although this episode kicked off the third season, it was filmed much later and moved up as the season premiere airing on September 14, 1970. 

It ultimately became CBS’s highest rated show on the air for the 1971-72 television season.  It was also the best remembered episode of the entire series.

This show’s plot was built around the real-life publicity achieved when Richard Burton bought his wife Elizabeth Taylor a 68 carat Cartier diamond ring worth over a million dollars. Property Master Ken Westcott created two replica rings for the medium and long shots which were crafted from chandelier crystals. Although he wanted to keep one after the shoot, Ball took one and Taylor took the other.

 A thirty minute documentary film “Lucy Meets the Burtons: A Comedic Gem” was included on DVD release of “Here’s Lucy” season 3. It includes interviews with Lucie Arnaz, Carole Cook, and behind the scenes footage.

Although this was their first and last time acting together, Taylor and Ball appeared on several television specials together, although they usually did not share screen time.

Taylor’s later years were spent doing philanthropic work, concentrating on AIDS and LGBTQ rights. Following her conversion to Judaism, Taylor became an active supporter of Jewish and Zionist causes. 

In 2000, Taylor was designated a dame, the female equivalent of knight, on the queen's coveted New Year's list of titles and awards.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor died on March 23, 2011 of congestive heart failure at age 79.

Although she may not have appeared, Elizabeth Taylor’s name was mentioned on Lucille Ball’s sitcoms many times. 

In “Lucy is Matchmaker” (ILL S2;E27 ~ May 25, 1953) Elizabeth Taylor’s name is not mentioned, but her face is quickly seen on camera on the cover of a magazine in a newsstand!  

Although her name is never stated, Elizabeth Taylor was clearly one of the influences when Lucy donned “The Black Wig” (ILL S3;E26 ~ April 19, 1954). Taylor sported short dark hair throughout much of the 1950s, including in her latest film at the time, The Girl Who Had Everything. Instead, Lucy gives Italian actresses like Gina Lollobridgida and Anna Magnani the credit. 

In “Ricky’s Movie Offer” (ILL S4;E6 – November 8, 1954) Lucy and Ethel accidentally knock out talent scout Ben Benjamin. Lucy revives him and tries to act casual, as if in mid-conversation. “Do you mean to tell me that Elizabeth Taylor looks just as pretty off screen as she does on?”

In “Hollywood Anniversary” (ILL S4;E24 ~ April 4, 1955) the list of celebrity guests supposedly coming to Lucy’s anniversary party includes Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Wilding, her second husband. 

Incredibly (or perhaps legally), Liz Taylor’s name IS NOT explicitly mentioned in “Lucy Plays Cleopatra” (TLS S2;E1 ~ September 30, 1963) although the premise was clearly influenced by the smash hit film that came out that same year starring Taylor as Cleo. She was the third to play the Egyptian queen on film, after Theda Bara (1917) and Claudette Colbert (1934).  

In “Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20 ~ February 7, 1966) one of Lucy’s rare movie magazines has a (fictional) article titled “Marriage is Not for Me” (supposedly) written by Elizabeth Taylor when she was 12 years old! By that time, Taylor’s love life was fodder for Hollywood gossip mongers and tabloids. 

In “Lucy Dates Dean Martin” (TLS S4;E21 ~ February 14, 1966)  Eddie Feldman (Dean Martin) says that while Lucy is attractive, she is no Liz Taylor. Or Gina Lollobrigida. Or Brigitte Bardot.

In “Lucy and the Starmaker” (TLS S6;E4 ~ October 2, 1967), after singing for Lucy, Tommy (Frankie Avalon) says he never thought he had more than an average voice. Lucy replies “if that is an average voice Elizabeth Taylor is an average housewife.”  

In “Lucy and Robert Goulet” (TLS S6;E8 ~ October 30, 1967) Lucy Carmichael says she once entered an Elizabeth Taylor look-alike contest and never even heard from them!

In “Lucy and the Lost Star” (TLS S6;E22 ~ February 26, 1968) starring Joan Crawford, Lucy says that “Mr. Mooney wouldn’t lend a dime to Richard Burton even if he left Elizabeth Taylor as collateral.”

In “A Date For Lucy” (HL S1;E19 ~ February 10, 1969) Lucy and Mary Jane fantasize about dream dates for an upcoming soiree. They mention Richard Burton, but add that Elizabeth Taylor wouldn’t approve. 

In “Lucy the Stunt Man” (TLS S4;E5 ~ October 18, 1965), Mr. Mooney jokingly says that he’s testing for the male lead in Liz Taylor’s next picture!

In “Lcuy Goes on Her Last Blind Date” (HL S5;E16 ~ January 8, 1973), when Vanda is trying on the engagement ring Ben gave Lucy, she says “Liz Taylor, eat your heart out.”

Abstract

The poisoning of a former russian spy in Salisbury, England, in march 2018, led to the Discovery of several chemical weapons not included in the Chemical Weapons Convention, allegedly developed by the URSS and not declared by Russia. This, in some way, has made diplomatic pressure to modify the lists of chemicals forbbiden or controle by the CWC, with some reluctancia by the russian government and some of their alias. The Organización for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has started actions to include novichok agents in the lists of prohibited agents. This is the story.

The Beggining

In the spring of 2018, Sergei Skripal (former russian spy) and his daughter Yulia, started to feel ill. It was found that they were poisoned with a chemical hard to identify; however, an excellent chemical analysis let the analytical team to say that the chemical(s) employed were some nerve agents that were not included in the control lists establishers in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), however, this compounds are chemical weapons of a new class, never declared by any state party member of the CWC. The scientists arrived at the conclusión that the chemicals employed belong to a group of nerve agents known as Novichok. These chemicals act as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, same as VX or Sarin, but more tonics (it is said that eight times as poisonous as VX, and with effects as rapid as 30 seconds [1-4].

According to Al Jazeera, Skripal and his daughter were found unconscious on a bench outside a mall in Salisbury on March 4, 2018, poisoned. Skripal is a former Russian military intelligence officer accused of spying for the United Kingdom. He was imprisoned in 2006, and later was part of an exchange program for Russian citizens accused of espionage in the United States. He was granted asylum in the United Kingdom. It is considered that the poisoning was made through the knob of the main door of his house, since that was the place where the highest concentration of nerve agent was found. The first actions of the british government included that 23 undeclared Russian intelligence officers were expelled from the UK. Before the analysis of the evidence gave a confirmation of the agent employed, a police officer who visited the Skripal’s home was admited in a hospital with symptoms characteristic with a nerve agent poisoning [5]. In the end, these three victims were capable of recovery. Several weeks later some civilians were found with similar medical condition in Amesbury, a town about 11 km from Salisbury. Charlie Rowley found a fake Premier Jour (Nina Ricci) parfume bottle that he recovered and gave to his wife, Dawn Sturges’. They assambled the atomizer and she applied the liquid in her wrists. And so, they were contaminated. The bottle contained not parfume but a nerve agent. This case was tested as terrorism by the british authorities [6]. Dawn went into ICU at Salisbury Hospital and died a week later. Charlie survived and was released from the hospital, but several days later he was admitted again with an acute case of meningitis and blindness, and unable to move his left arm. On March 12 Theresa May declared: “Either this was a direct action of the Russian State towards our country, or the russian government lost control over the substance with the potential for catastrophic destruction and allowed it to fall into the hands of others. On april 2018, scientists from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) confirmed the presence of Novichok in biological sampling from the Skripals as well as from the site of the presumed contamination. On september of the same year, a couple of suspects were identified, two russian citizens members of the russian intelligence body (GRU), that flew from Moscow to London just two days prior to the Skripal poisoning and were in Salisbury for only 30 minutes. They were identified as Alexander Mishkin, and Anatoly Chepiga Both were honored for their actions in Ukraine [7].

International Reacticos

This situation led to a series of diplomatic actions from several countries: USA expelled 60 russians from its territorial, including 12 officials from the Russia UN misión; UK made the same with 34 russian diplomats. Other EU countries expelled 34 diplomats, Ukraine did the same with 13 diplomats, the OTAN expelled 7 and other countries around the world added for 13 more expelled diplomats [8,9]. On its side, Russia retaliated by expelling 23 british diplomats and 60 from USA. And something bizarre: the russian government conducted a Twitter poll to let the russian people determine which USA consulate was to be closed. The winner was the St. Peterburg one.

In The 1970 Decade, the Soviets had a Nerve Agents Development Program Known as Folinate, that Intended to have Chemicals that were:

a) Non detected by conventional detection OTAN instrumentos;

b) Capable of penétrate the soldares’ body, even with full protecting clothes;

c) Safer to preparation, handling and storage.

By the end of the 1990 decade, the russian government was looking that this chemicals or their precursors were not mentioned by the CWC.

What we know and what we don’t:

Most of what we understood as of 2018 of Novichok agents comes from testimony and memoirs of Dr. Vil S. Mirzayanov, the Chief of the Department of Counteraction against Foreign Technical Intelligence at the Russian State Union Scientific Research Institute for Organic Chemistry and Technology (Gonio) [10]. In 1995, The Stimson Center published a document: Chemical weapons disarmament in Russia: Problems and prospects. 1995, The Stimson Center, consisting of several essays written by various specialists in chemical weapons and in Russia. Particularly, Mirzayanov wrote a paper: Dismantling the Soviet/Russian Chemical Weapons Complex: An Insider’s View. This can be read in this paper, Mirzayanov wrote that the soviets in 1978 finished the construction of a large facility for nerve agent’s production, with capacity to make 20,000 tons annually, and that they produced 15,000 tons of a chemical called Substance 33, similar to the nerve agent VX. He mentions a group of chemicals with the names A-230, A-232, and the series of chemicals called Novichok, intended to be handled as binary weapons, in response to the US Big Eye project, to produce Sarin in a binary way [11,12]. These Novichok chemicals (basically Substance 33, A-230 and A-232, as well as others named Novichok-5, Novichok-7 and a no-name Novichok, tested 1988-19989) were never mentioned in bilateral Memorandums of Understanding designed to promote mutual transparency among URSS/Russia and USA about chemical weapons programs.

Jonathan Tucker informed in 2000, that Russia denied any production of Novichok, but also signed an agreement with the Syria government to create a syrian center for chemical weapons defense, under the cover of a Syrian Center of Ecological Protection, and reports that three russian scientists working in that center were involved on the novichok program; Tucker also says that in 1999 a London based arabic newspaper reported that some Syrian missile warheads were loaded with VX and a novel agent called novichok [13]. So, for as long as 24 years the name novichok has been in the chemical weapons universe, but for over 20 of those years it was some kind of urban legend, untill 2018 when it surfaced publicly and with a lot of noise [14]. We now know that it is another chemical that interferes with the metabolism of the neuro transmitter acetylcholine, binding to the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, and that can result in death. And a recent technical report informs that it is much more toxic than VX because novichok (in a theoretical computer simulation) has fewer conformers than VX; while VX shows 6561 conformers, the novichok A-234 shows 486 and A-230 shows only 54, which leads to a faster binding among the neurotoxic agent and the acetylcholinesterase enzyme that governs the metabolic transformation of acetylcholinesterase.

Novichok and the OPCW

In the sixteenth session of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the OPCW, 4-6 April 2011, on the agenda item elevenNovel toxic compounds, two of the points discussed were related to novichok. I will reproduce them completelly, according to the published report. 11.1 The Chairperson introduced the topic of new toxic compounds that are not included in the schedules of chemicals. This has been attracting increasing attention in recent years, particularly among non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Although very little information has appeared in the public domain, there have been claims that a new class of nerve agents, known as “Novichoks”, has been developed. In December 2008, a former defence scientist published a book, which included information on structures reported to be those of the new agents. Some of these structures meet the criteria for Schedule 2 B4 (S2 B4); however, all others are non-scheduled chemicals [15]. The author claimed that the toxicity of certain “Novichok” agents may exceed that of VX. 11.2 In a discussion of the issue, SAB members emphasised that, to date, there has been no confirmation of the author’s claims, nor has any peer review been undertaken in regard to the information on these chemicals in the scientific literature on this subject. The SAB noted that those chemicals containing a phosphorus atom to which is bonded one methyl, ethyl or propyl (normal or iso) group but not further carbon atoms would be declarable as S2 B4 chemicals above a threshold of one tone [11]. The SAB asked the Secretariat if such chemicals had ever been declared. The Secretariat replied that it has no record of any such declarations. With respect to nonscheduled chemicals relevant to “Novichoks”, it was noted that for declarations under the other chemical production facility (OCPF) regime, the name of the chemical is not required, and therefore, the Secretariat would not be able to determine (from declarations received) if there are facilities producing “Novichok” agents that are also non-scheduled chemicals. So, as can be seen, the OPCW had an early information, but the internal procedures stablished by the CWC did not permit the organization to go further. However, the SAB understood that it was a serious danger and started working in two areas intended to prevent the resurgement of the chemical weapons, that is, education and outreach.

Because the Salisbury incident, the OPCW made an investigation and concluded (12 april 2018) that it was a toxic agent the chemical employed against Skripal and his daughter, that the identity of this toxic chemical coincided with the one obtained in UK analysis, and that it was of high purity. The name and stucture of the identified toxic chemical are contained in a classified report of the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW, available only to CWC States Parties. On 2 May 2018, the OPCW Director General made a request for information from States Parties on new types of nerve agents, supported by the 12 april report; in the same date, the Director General made an equal request from the SAB [16]. Later, on 4 september 2018, a report from the OPCW Technical Secretariat the findings were that the analysis of a simple of the small bottle found by Charles Rowley and Dawn Sturgess showed that the simple consisted of the same toxic chemical found in the Skripal’s simple, with a concentration of 97-98%. Once again, the name and chemical structure of the toxic chemicals identified are contained in the full confidential report that the Technocal Secretariat of the OPCW made available to all State Parties. The Russian position was that, since novichok was not listed in the prohibited substances, there was no violation of the CWC.

On october 2018, Russia’s military intelligence service (GRU) was accused of a hacking intent against OPCW headquarters, which led to four russians being expelled from The Netherlands after this alleged cyber strike. This came after UK government accused the GRU of some other cyber-attacks across the whole globe. A proposal made jointly by Canada, The Netherlands and the United States was revised in a OPCW Executive Council and in January of 2019 was adopted by the council, so was informed by Sabine Nolde, Canada’s representative, and confirmed the Dutch foreign ministry. This opened a 90 days period to object or make observations to this adopted proposal. In april of 2019 it was expected that the majority of the OPCW members would vote supporting the addition of novichok in the annex of the CWC forbidding some substances.

Conclusion

This kind of poisoning actions by Russia is not new, just remember the Alexander Litvinenko’s murder. This whole case shows that no matter the compromise of an international agreement to ban weapons of mass destruction, there will always be rogué states or groups of non-state actors willing to produce and use them; so, the OPCW must be fiercely supported by all nations and all people concerned with global peace and understanding.

So you're saying this theory about Shiro being bp in pre-production, it expanded upon s7 to s8? I thought it'd be just the scripts but there're so many inconsistecies with lion color and lines it baffles me. If they had almost two seasons ready, why would they put effort in remaking them, wouldn't that make up for a higher budget? why would DW EPs change their minds about the former version? (also, I'm sure this means there's no alt s8, just a s8 over a s8)

So which of the four people I started to explain this theory to are you? 

To clarify - no, they didn’t change the Black Paladin role from Shiro to Keith in pre-production. According to this - 

(Keith’s panel is double the size of everyone else and off-center, thus taking over Lotor’s panel.)

- the EPs changed Seasons 7 & 8 in post-production. 

The Theory: Seasons 7 & 8 were a mess because essentially, we were watching different parts of Seasons 3-6 that were re-purposed following the insertion of the clone subplot. 

After watching Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 8 and seeing how Allura and Kuron’s struggles paralleled, I realized - they don’t parallel. These struggles match. Honerva invades Kuron’s mind just like she invaded Allura’s, is connected to Kuron and Allura through some sort of mind-link, and eventually is able to override Kuron’s mind while Allura receives visions in hers.But why would the EPs and writers do the same fight over? Why would they choose to redo parts of the story, rather than advancing the plot?That got me thinking about other theories about reused episodes. Coupled with “Knights of Light” being Shiro’s paladin journey sans Shiro - it occurred to me – Seasons 7 and 8 are, in part, Seasons 3-6. And thus – here’s what I think the original order of the episodes were, heavily influenced by interviews and foreshadowing, and most likely, a bit of bias, too.

Season 3 (released as Seasons 3 & 4)

Season 3 up to “Hole in the Sky” was originally plotted and shown as is; however, we know from EP interviews that “Reunion” was originally slated after “Hole in the Sky” and “The Legend Begins” was a two-parter.

After the clone subplot was conceived, “Reunion” was pushed back, “The Legend Begins” cut to one episode (but footage reused later), and “The Journey” inserted. The reused footage of Lotor’s ships and Shiro being added after the fact (where he barely interacts with the rest of the paladins) puts most scenes from “The Road Home” and “The Way Forward” in Season 3. 

I also want to add in here –  while the EPs said they wanted Shiro to die at the end of S2, they originally said earlier that the execs told them Shiro couldn’t be out a full season. That means Shiro was slated to return – my guess within 26 episodes, a full production season, not a full release season (which is 13 episodes).

So I surmise Season 3 originally looked something like this:

Just want to add – I wonder if originally, the five paladins stuck their bayards into their lions in “A New Defender” to give Voltron that extra punch, rather than Allura powering up Voltron with a deus ex machina. Then Lance seeing Shiro in the Void would have been the cliffhanger, not Keith almost dying. That would also explain why Keith’s near-death experience was never addressed by the team - cuz originally, it didn’t happen.

Season 4 (released as Seasons 5 & 6)

An early theory by @sol1056​ was that Keith was the second son of Zarkon, born in the rift. It makes sense, particularly since Krolia had no bearing on the plot other than birthing Keith. Sure, she found the Blue Lion on Earth, but as the Galra Empire was originally announced to be misogynistic, and thus having no female warriors other than Lotor’s generals – then Krolia was never meant to be a Galra soldier and therefore, could have not found the Blue Lion. 

I surmise – from Zarkon’s seemingly infiltrating Shiro’s mind in the pilot episode, to Haggar being able to hack Black and Shiro’s bond literally, and Red being on Sendak’s ship, where Shiro also spent some time – Shiro helped the Galra, perhaps inadvertently or unwillingly, to locate the Red and Blue Lions. 

Also, please note - Cosmo was originally inserted into this season, and as you know from previous posts, Cosmo most likely took the place of Shiro in the script, seeing as Cosmo and the Black Lion have the same teleporting abilities. (Yes, I believe the paladins were going to go all AtLA and get powers.)

For this season, I start to get a bit creative since the blanks are gaping here, as the clone subplot came to a head:

Postmortem (if not in the last season finale, then here is where Shiro would yell to Lance and Keith wouldn’t have been in the Void, seeing as he’s not the Black Paladin OR Allura missing from the Void and Keith in Red’s position)

Please note: “Knights of Light” is a bit of anomaly. I feel it would work better as a mid-season climax - perhaps set in Season 7 - but if Shiro was to return prior by the end of the original Season 6 and Allura was having issues due to Honerva going to Oriande, then KoL would have to be in this season. 

Also, since “The Colony” was literally an eight-minute scene inserted in the middle of an episode and later, the Alteans become pawns - there’s a chance the Colony could have been deleted all together and Honerva, as Empress of the Galra Empire, still could have completed her plan. 

Season 5 (released as Season 7)

This season originally had Shiro back in Black with Lance and Keith going back to their original lions. Allura would be the one on the Atlas bridge by the end of the season, not Shiro. 

Considering this - as well as the re-purposed parts from Season 3-6 - here is where budget question comes in. Moving “Prisoner’s Dilemma” here so Shiro unlocks his bayard and seeing as Pidge should have gotten her bayard upgrade after Olkarion, the original Season 5 may have looked something like this:

Season 6 (released as Season 8)

I’m not even going to guess how this season originally looked, though we can assume “Genesis,” “Uncharted Regions,” “The Zenith,” and “The End is The Beginning” were all in the original rundown but with Allura in Atlas, Lotor returning to help Voltron, and the team back to its original line-up. And seeing as Allura went to Oriande and helped build Sincline, the natural progression of her storyline would have been to change Atlas on the fly in Season 7 and then in Season 8, merge Atlas and Voltron. 

But more importantly, here’s where the budget was really made up -

There are only eight episodes created here - not thirteen. Coupled with using this season’s budget for “Razor’s Edge” and some of the scenes from “Bloodlines,” that brings the total to ten. By injecting the clone subplot and choosing to redo the storyline for Black Paladin!Keith, the EPs were able to cut-and-paste together the remaining episodes of this season. 

There are also short cuts in production you can see, such as leaving errors in animation and/or post-production. If the EPs and team were truly making sure VLD was the best it could be, we wouldn’t have:

Shiro calling for the MFE pilots to be ready to launch, and the Iverson doing it again less than four minutes later in “Uncharted Regions”

Atlas saying that it would cover the lions and then Keith saying they were giving Atlas a shot (A shot at what? Atlas was just supposed to help) in “The Zenith” 

Quintessence colors that aren’t uniform, considering Keith’s bayard now changes to the same color of Black’s tail when Shiro pilots (There is a gentleman whose sole job at DreamWorks is make sure the colors align.)

Luca coming back from the dead, Lance in Blue, Yellow having Red’s fire power in “The Zenith” 

Reused dialogue lines from previous seasons and perhaps even recorded dialogue with Shiro as the Black Paladin - Shiro as part of the field team in “Day Forty-Seven,” Shiro standing in for Griffin in “Prisoner’s Dilemma,” almost Shiro’s entire dialogue from “The Grudge”

Lance and Allura’s conversations with the original paladins not making any sense in “Knights of Light,” seeing as Allura isn’t overlooked. In fact, Honerva wanted to recruit her. 

Pretty much - VLD cut corners in the last seasons to make up the budget and delivered us a torn-apart story with offensive message and yet another set of ridiculous wings. 

TL;DR - Who really knows what happened with VLD, but what DreamWorks delivered wasn’t the original episode rundown, seeing as the team was supposed to be in their original lion line-up by the end of the series with Allura and Lotor being alive in Atlas and Sincline, respectively. And tbh - it hurts to see what we could have had and know there was an incredible story the EPs and DreamWorks not failed to deliver but refused to.

In the other boys' Halloween Dates, we get glimpses of what would happen to the MLs if MC died (Gavin being in denial of her death and revenge MC's death, Lucien k*lled himself, and Kiro wishes to meet again with her in their next life as he died together with her). However, on Victor's route, MC survives thanks to his Messiah theme. Now, I'm curious too! What do you think would happen to Victor if, hypothetically, MC did not survive in his Halloween story (or any story)?

hello~ (⁠・⁠∀⁠・⁠) jumping into answering your question straight away: what do you get when you blend absolute denial with pragmatic optimism that has reached the extremity and is only stubbornness at this point? sounds like the recipe for insanity^∞, does it not? that’s what’d happen to Victor :’>

to be as analytical as possible, i’ll elaborate the answer in two sections—

firstly, in regards to the Halloween dates, the statement “we get a glimpse of what would happen to the MLs if MC died” does not hold water, actually, haha.

b/c unfortunately, the elements needed in order for a comparison to be done here are absent in the way Love and Producer does their AU events— which i was talking about on Twitter right after the PV release. that i really wish L&P would do an AU event like the way Light and Night does— where the even story gives you the world building needed for the individual date stories, and the MC gets one singular background shared across all men’s stories. and now, when the men enter this world with their different roles, motives, variables and mesh with the MC’s entity, a unique story is created (you can compare this to Lovebrush Chronicles/ For All Time's main story too). your inquiry stands for a scenario like this, where the before and after comparisons can be done. but L&P’s halloween dates, like all prev. AUs, had different backgrounds for the heroine as well as the plot itself. also, in one story she was already dead, in one already widowed for years, in one not yet married, and in one you get the full story from wedding night to the widowhood day. the driving factors in each of these stories, for both the men and the heroine, were also very different~ :>

before i get on with the next section, just a reminder of clarity— if the MC were to die a normal death b/c of old-age and all, and not due to rivalry, conspiracy, external force, or the ML’s ambition paving the path— all of the men would resolve to a natural acceptance with time~ :’>

now, to quench your curiosity, we need not look any further. just look at the main story haha. and here, bringing back the halloween dates, the fact that despite different backgrounds and stories, the heroine was alive ONLY in Victor’s story and he was the one who got d-worded alone, in and of itself tells us the pivotal role Victor has in the main story AND in MC’s survival DESPITE the ABSOLUTE MAYHEM.

b/c the god and divine imagery, the Messiah archetype is in Li Zeyan’s core, we always see him holding the most crucial batons. and it’s b/c of this archetype he has, it’s basically written in the stars that Li Zeyan would always, always, ALWAYS make sure YOU and EVERYONE else is safe before answering to the higher calling. and what sets him apart from all other similar archetypes is, yes, he yields to walking alone in the end but not before honoring the opportunity to walk together with you. the dilemma here of whether he should save you the heartbreak and stay away or submit to “it is better to have loved and lost to never have loved at all”, again, is portrayed masterfully in his halloween date.

but in the main story, despite all the cards he has, the main character is you/ the heroine. so, Li Zeyan doesn’t exactly get the last call here. so, what happens then?

we saw that post S1 CH 18, post S1 CH 27 and onwards, we’ve been seeing it on a constant roll since S2 CH 25. this is a man who has been told time and again that the world’s ending cannot be changed, that the MC’s death is inevitable. this is a man who has witnessed the world’s ending and the MC’s death repeatedly, countless times, across two seasons. this is a man, who despite all inevitable presented before him, denies that ending. this is a man, who has sacrificed more than anyone, been through the excruciating door of life and death more timesvthan anyone in the story (including the heroine herself), just b/c he refuses to accept the ending and her death and changes the course EVERY FCKING TIME. he drains himself physically, mentally, emotionally, materialistically, spiritually in every sense of the way b/c of that. but luckily for him, thus far, the heroine has to be alive in some way for the story to run LOL, so he has succeeded each time.

in an alternate world, however, where that safety net is no longer present— he can only lose himself in the gaps of time b/c here, this is a man who’s never known how to give up but is fated to meet a dead end each and every freakin’ time. :’>

Doom WADs’ Roulette (2004): Deus Vult

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Others! I would like to welcome you to the Silver League of Cacowards WADs.

This League will be dedicated to WADs that didn’t exactly earn Cacoward but were good enough to end up either as Runner-ups (in most cases), and/or Honorable Mentions.

In 2004 there were three Runner-ups and an Honorable Mention.

And today we will be taking a look at the WAD that combines Doom with another (and unfortunately very polarizing) franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Or rather we WOULD be talking about the WAD (titled Super Sonic Doom) if I managed to properly run it. Which I couldn’t do it (Check out my previous post for more details).

That doesn’t mean I’ll leave you all with nothing. There are still three WADs to look at. So we will properly start the Silver League with-

S1: Super Sonic Doom S2: Deus Vult

Levels: 1 (in the original form (MAP05 replacement) and in four parts (MAP01-MAP04))

Ah yes. Deus Vult. The map so big that at the time of its release, it had to be split into four parts in case it was too much for your PC. The map that ended up in 2nd place in the Doomworld’s Top 100 Most Memorable Maps. The map that has over 2,5 thousand enemies.

So as you can see, we are going to have a hellishly special treat today.

From what I’ve gathered, it was in development for almost 7 months and used a 1995 map SQUARES (regarded as possibly the first-ever slaughter map) as a foundation, influenced by hard-ass MegaWADs like Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta. Deus Vult is also the first Doom map Huy ever created. So yeah, he started up high.

Now let’s take a look at this map, and see if I won’t lose my marbles while beating it.

The plot is your typical last man/men standing (this time on Deimos) going to Hell to Rip and Tear and that other shit.

Now look, folks, this map looks magnificent! Almost all of Deus Vult feels like another milestone in terms of presentation. The sheer size of some of the locations might give you goosebumps, filling you with awe, fear, and disgust to some degree. I also really like Lord of the Rings’ aesthetics showing up in some places, particularly by the last fourth of the map.

I don’t know what else to say. I think it’s better to play the map without monsters to see it for yourself.

The music choice is also good. I like how it somewhat pumps you up despite the Hell that surrounds you. My favorite track was the MIDIfied version of Krook's March from Donkey Kong Country 2. The only problem I have with the soundtrack is that Big Boss Blues from Donkey Kong Country 3 feels too short as a track for a level with such a magnitude. I’ll get more on this stuff later.

If you probably didn’t realize by now, Deus Vult is fucking gigantic. According to the text file included in the ZIP file, the PAR time is around two and a half an hour. So you better take some breaks to not go insane.

And yet, surprisingly enough, this map doesn’t really feel that complicated. Sure, there are moments that might make you think for a while when going blind but Deus Vult is far from being cryptic.

As I mentioned earlier, when this map was released, most of the computers were incapable of running it without framerate dropping like a fly (including my first PC if I had the internet to download this map). Seriously, the text file says that you would need a computer with a processor with over 1.8 GHz of power to smoothly run the full map. And so in that case, Huy Pham split the map into four parts:

Insurgents,

Torture Chamber,

Cathedral (of which I really like how it has the Heretic logo while the music from that game plays),

and End of Days.

Basically, you can play this map in two configurations: either in the original form (MAP05) or in parts (MAP01-MAP04).

I played this map in parts because:

One, the music changes when you reach the next part of the map (and I don’t think there are people who wouldn’t be bored by Demons on the Prey looping for the 40th time when playing this map).

Two, it allows me to take a break without the need of doing that in the middle of the map.

And three, as the text file says, it’s a very good choice for people who aren’t really that fond of gigantic maps like Deus Vult. Each part can be completed Pistol-starting as the author says.

Not only the map is gigantic, but some of the lifts/lowering platforms are long as shit. In some cases, you have to wait a few minutes for a lift to completely lower. Thankfully, in the worst cases, you will also be fighting armadas of demons, so chances are you won’t even notice that the lift lowered down completely or is very close to the end.

By the way, I don’t usually talk about secrets, but I recommend searching for them. Many of these have some funny moments worth a chuckle. Take a look at hidden teleporters that have an evil eye inside.

Look, there is no doubt that Deus Vult is hard as nails. I mean, come on, it has 2640 enemies just on Hurt Me Plenty, and it was inspired by HR and AV as I said. Do you need more proof? I guess it is technically harder than these MegaWADs since the text file says that HMP is recommended for people who finished these two on Ultra-Violence. But I didn’t really feel that way.

For starters, there are many Health and Armor pick-ups spread across the map. So even if you make a mistake, there is still a rather huge chance that you can restore your health.

Secondly, there are at least three moments where you can circle around the area for some infighting. It will definitely help conserve ammo.

The hardest part of the map is definitely Torture Chamber. Mainly due to the main section of it with a sprawling area that has a miniature Eye of Sauron, where you get bombarded by every mid to high-tier monster. Especially Arch-viles.

Wait, where was I? Oh, right.

The latter half of the map wasn’t as hard as the second part of it, mostly because battles are much more manageable.

Is Deus Vult fair? Well, yes, for the most part. Ignoring the main section of Torture Chamber (which feels like it went too far with Arch-viles), I feel like some of the fights were a bit too tight, like when you reach the marble area in Insurgents (I can’t even remember how I managed to beat it the first time I played this map).

Thankfully this map doesn’t end on an Icon of Sin boss. It’s really satisfying to shoot the top of the real Eye of Sauron at the very end. It’s like a relief and catharsis after finally finishing the map.

In terms of bugs, the one that I remember encountering is where 105 Imps in the Torture Chamber part don’t appear since they don’t have set flags on any difficulty level.

Aside from that, the text file mentions messed up new sound effects on Legacy and PrBoom, music from MAP02 and MAP04 not working on the versions of Legacy later than 1.41b, shadow casting effect working off with ceiling and floor lightning if the map is played in OpenGL, and some of the other source ports (including PrBoom) displaying more slime trails than they should have.

Deus Vult is a map that doesn’t fuck around. It will test your skills and unlock the sixth sense if you didn’t unlock it already while playing other slaughter maps/WADs. It might be going too far in some places, but most of the time, it feels satisfying to finally kill the last demon of the armada that spawned. It rewards tactical thinking and using Invuns at the right time. Plus, it’s gorgeous for the 2004 map to look at. It’s still a good map to play, and I recommend you to play it. Just don’t go straight into the full map on Ultra-Violence blind.

Will I ever play it as a whole thing instead of parts? Probably. I know that the revamped version of this map appears in Deus Vult II, so I’ll definitely play it when I’ll reach that WAD.
