SDV Bachelor/Bachelorette Surname Headcanons

i find it silly that we only really know the surname of like,, 3-4 characters total so i went ahead and assigned everyone their own, because it makes life easier - this is just the bachelors and bachelorettes for now but maybe i'll make another post with everyone else's

minor spoilers for alex's backstory and sam's full name under the cut :)

Bachelors:

Alex Mullner - this one is practically canon bc his grandparents are the Mullner's, but i like to think that whether or not his parents were married he refused to keep his dads surname

Elliot Arthur - i dont have much explanation for this beyond it just Feeling Right, something old and (generally) english

Harvey Lieberman - i saw someone headcanon harvey as jewish, and lieberman means "dear/beloved" so this was another one that just Felt Right

Sam O'Neil - picking a surname for sam was kinda tricky tbh bc it had to flow nicely with samson And the rest of his family's names, but O'Neil means warrior which suits kent and it sounds nice

Sebastian Kang - couple headcanons in this reasoning: his bio dad is half korean And seb is a natural ginger, so Kang bc it means "ginger" in korean

Shane Miller - shane has always just been a purple haired alcoholic version of nick miller to me tbh

Bachelorettes:

Abigail Duval - duval is french for "from the valley" which ties in pierres whole frenchness And the game itself

Emily Murphy - this was another case of finding a name that flowed nicely for multiple characters (Haley)

Haley Murphy - same as above ^^

Leah Reilly - reilly means courageous which i feel she is for taking the risk of being an artist (speaking as an artist shh), and it sounds nice

Maru Taylor - this was mostly because it is Hard to find a surname that flows nicely with the name demetrius

Penny Adams - this will make little to no sense to anyone else but adams has always felt like a ginger name to me, and it works well enough with pam

whole thing comes from the perspective of Midas (as Quixis specifically) being Scylla, which means Icarus has to be Odysseus, which is also fitting tbh.

this is only based on the released sagas bc i dont have the vibe of the future characters yet (i dont look at a whole lot of snippets). also dont think about any of the blood family stuff too hard - theres nothing weird dw but it just makes stuff complicated with the gods

A/N: mostly because my feelings about them have changed a great deal. Like don’t hate on me but I’ve disliked a lot of people due to first impressions. also I needed something to post since I’m writing very slowly because I’ve started work and have been sick for the last 509 years. I miss having free time to write. But a girl needs to make money I guess. The rest of the villagers will be in different parts!!

Tw: I hate more than half of them and am mean, cursing, maybe some sexual things but obviously not full on smut.

Before we get into this I would also like to say that the way I met everyone was not on day one or day two. I think I met almost everyone like not one day at a time, but like I think it was after the Egg Festival that I had met everyone. ALSO the first time I played was with friends.

but today. you're playing stardew valley. if you're anything like me, time does not exist when you play stardew valley. neither do basic human needs. I have like 450+ hours on that game it's actually a problem. and you started a new farm that morning, intent on playing an anti-capitalist run (basically no Pierre or Joja) and you just got so into it!!

your stream literally sees abby leave for practice that morning, sees her sweet lil goodbye kiss to you and her wave to the stream. and then they see her come back from practice hours later. and you're still going. abby is just standing in the doorway like. what the fuck baby. all the snacks she left you with are gone, your water bottle is empty, you look like a cave goblin. which is fitting because somehow. you already made it to the bottom of the fucking mines.

your chat is going wild, everyone saying hi to abby and then going ooohhhhh someone's in trouble!! because they've literally been with you this whole time. and you're like "hi baby! how was practice!"

abby's all pouty (my pouty girl my lil baby my shnookums she sos cut eoishdfouagher oK), walking to you like "have you been streaming this whole time?"

when you nod she's like. girl. so she places a kiss on your forehead, running to fill up your water bottle and grab some of the takeout she picked up after practice (because she keeps y'all FED), before returning to the office and setting it down. and you think she's just gonna leave, but no. because she's been feeling so needy for you today.

so she pulls you out of your chair, gently of course, sits down, and then hauls you onto her lap, wrapping her arms around your waist and sitting with you for the rest of stream. the whole time the chat is just like awww thats so cute and abby looks so sweet, all contented and leaning on your shoulder, dozing a little bit and giving input whenever you ask. does get all pouty when you joke about marrying Abigail again. considers asking you to make it a joint farm so you can get married <3

yamato - he plays a bit in between his classes and thinks that the farming is really relaxing. he eventually marries penny bc he thinks she is sweet. (his character coincidentally looks like sam)

sora - she is gradually getting addicted to stardew valley and spends waaay too long picking out names for her farm animals. she initially tried to romance sam, but switched to shane bc she felt bad and wanted to help him!!! (her blue chicken is named “frosty”)

koushiro - koushiro knows of stardew valley, but he definitely doesn’t have time to play it. plus, watching his friends develop parasocial relationships with pixels is a little concerning. he does help miyako create mods for it, tho!!

mimi - she is obsessed!! she wishes the flower dance were every month and that the pretty colors of spring and summer could last forever. every festival, she spends all of her money on decorations. as soon as possible, she bought the furniture catalog at robin’s and spent HOURSS decorating her farm, house, AND the town. (linus has a little sitting area now!! the mines have flowers all in the entrance!!) she will marry haley every single time. they have two beautiful kids!!

jou - he literally has no idea what the hype around stardew valley is about, but he has seen the harvey thirst traps on tiktok and is happy the public are appreciating healthcare workers!!

takeru - npc interactions are his favorite, tbh. he does his best to give everyone gifts they like, except demetrius. he doesn’t like workaholic fathers for some reason. also, he wishes he could talk like elliott in real life without sounding like a sociopath.

hikari - she has played for over 300 hours. she has a fully functioning farmstead on ginger island and explores skull cavern for FUN. she has well over twelve save files- one for each bachelor and bachelorette she wants to romance. (elliott has been her fav so far - his poetry!!! his rizz!!!)

daisuke - he yearns for the mines.

ken - ken enjoys stardew valley, but only plays casually. (he just wants to have something in common with the others so that they can all talk about it.) he likes maru so far and has formed an attachment to his in-game cat named “miso”.

iori -he likes watching over daisuke’s shoulder as he plays, laughing whever a slime kills him in the mines.

miyako - a leah stan for life. the only thing she loves more than her wife is the DRAMMMAAAA and LORE these characters drop on a random tuesday afternoon. abigail’s heritage?? miyako is SCANDALIZED. alex’s entire exsistence? she is SAT, tissues in hand.

I STRUGGLED WITH VIKTOR. i didn't know if he should be gus (bc he owns a bar in s4), or maybe haley (so that he and allison can be haley and emily!) but in the end i like him as maru,, bc viktor and ben are close in-canon, so it would be interesting to have them live under the same roof here, especially since the carpenter's family has ✨issues✨ in the game too

lila i also struggled with. aesthetically she is SOOO sandy to me. then abigail fits her personality. but jodi is married to kent. so i think she's kind of a mix of all three characters SJDHSJ

HI GENO i was like how do you know ive been playing so much stardew valley recently and then i remembeted we are steam friends and ive also been. posting about it a lot LAWL ok so i do actually really enjoy harvey and krobus especially but ive never actually romanced any of thw guy characters they are completely uninteresting to me in that respect even though unfortunately i think they get to be more interesting than most of the women SADLY. a lot of my more recent playthroughs i have gone for krobus or havent pursued any romance options bc i jist like the grind more… i dont think ive ever even gotten to the point in marriage where u like have children at all BUT when i was very very into it in early high school i usually went for maru or abigail. and funnily enough on my current playthru im trying to go 100% on i actually married haley LOL idk why but i now find her very cute.. i feel like she didnt have much of an interesting like arc? infact i kind of enjoyed when she was much meaner to the player character and wish she stayed that way even after she gets closer to you but OH WELL i am just very charmed by her currently.

hmmmmmmmMMM. do you like relaxing nice games that don’t stress you out? if you do don’t play. 💀 HOWEVER, if you like the rewarding satisfaction of arriving to a new town where everyone’s a dick to you and then stalk them into submission until they all universally love you, then have at it, i reckon. 😌 i like piddling around on my farm digging up acorns and pinecorns and smashing open random containers that wash up on the cove’s shores, so the early-game grind of like, setting up the farm so that it made enough money that i could do whatever i wanted without going broke was what kept me going with my second save! also restoring the community gave me something to like, remember to focus on, so if i got bored and dropped the game i still had that to recentre me. 🥹 i treat stardew like i treat animal crossing: new horizons—something fun to wander around in and pick up random things. i’ve only recently gotten the hang of combat, in the skull caverns—that adds something too, because i like trying to find prismatic shards (i’ve only found two so far 😔). but what else? 🧐 you can make mayonnaise and then drink it in front of npcs and they’ll be like “ew” or “what?” and it will make u laugh. 😌 and, of course, you can date!! people make a lot of noise over the dateables. there is an alcoholic called shane who is quite soggy and sad BUT if you get enough hearts with him you will be able to buy blue chickens. they have curly tail feathers!!! i like elliot, he lives on the beach and mopes on a bridge or reads in the library. there’s also a doctor called harvey you can date, he’s into airplanes! sebastian still lives at home with his mum and stepdad, but he rides a motorcycle. there’s emily and haley, they’re sisters—emily is older and likes crystals and mystical woo woo things and haley is mean LMAO, she treats you like DIRT until she starts warming up to you (she likes sunflowers and coconuts and pink cake). leah lives out in the forest and has the cutest house, she always decorates it for the season. 🥺 she’s an artist!!! she does a lot of sculpture. she’s also quite forward LOL. ummmm there’s sam, he’s a cutie, he does tricks on his skateboard. his little brother is my little bestie, i bribe him with snails and cranberry candy. maru is seb’s stepsister and tbh she seems like a true loner in the town—kinda isolated? but she works in the clinic with harvey and she likes using her telescope to see the stars. alex was my first love—he’s a jock, and he’s also mean when you first meet him LMAOOO. he likes summer and the beach and wants to go pro one day. you can give everyone in town gifts and birthday gifts—i like giving stuff to kent, the ptsd-riddled veteran who’s come back from what sounds like a P.O.W camp? he’s married to jodi—they’re sam and vincent’s parents! the mayor is kinda ok. you can find his boxers in his girlfriend’s room and if you wanna you can put them in the summer luau’s giant soup pot and make him really mad lmaooo.

if you have the game on pc, you’ll have the 1.6 update, which is meant to add so much to the game too, like new secrets and stuff. 🥺 im only on my switch so i haven’t been able to play with it but from what i’ve seen and read of the update, starting a new save with 1.6 is a whole new ballgame!!!!

man i hate how haley stardew valley is written so much, like i think a lot of the female characters in this game have some... issues with how theyre written but haley is such a sad example of it. once she becomes youre friend she starts putting her previous interests down because theyre vapid or frivolous. i keep getting her message about how she thinks she should start reading real books and not looking at magazines anymore/selling all of her clothes and her personality really does a 180 out of nowhere.

its especially annoying how the way emily talks about haley it seems like the thing she really needs is to find her own independence but because shes a potential marriage candidate thats not something she can ever really have because becoming the players spouse means losing the majority of any individuality/personality she had to begin with.

i think a lot of stardew characters have this problem where they seem really dissatisfied with how life in pelican town feels but they sort of just get over it via developing a relationship with them despite you, the player, not really doing anything to warrant that

and its all in service to potentially moving onto your farm and making you breakfast sometimes and calling you honey, idk, i dont like it

ive never had much interest in marrying any of the characters in this game but i havent the softest spot for haley, i think i feel bad for her because she feels like shes intended to make you feel disgust bc shes kind of spoiled and rude and has "superficial" interests but how is she really any different from like, sebastian

in different saves ofc!! penny is pretty easy to romance because she has pretty easy loved/liked gifts - she likes all the artifacts pretty much so when you have extras its good to give them to her!! she is really sweet but i know a lot of fans don’t like her and i literally don’t understand why?? she was the first person i ever married

haley, harvey, and seb all have less accessible gifts that they like, i’d say sebastian has the hardest loved gifts to get early in the game. he likes quartz though which helps, but i’ve always found it hard to get to 4 hearts with him by the flower dance!!

i’d also like to romance the others in different saves but i personally have no desire to romance elliott, emily, or shane. i think abigail or leah will be my next attempt!!

Who's your favorite stardew characters?

I haven't played enough to say much, but I really like Hailey (??? Haley? The blond girl) cos she's nice and Harvey bc he's so fucking cute im definitely marrying him in my game BTW
