The Brink of Collapse
Summary: Aaron and reader have been on the brink of divorce for a long time. And then suddenly he's there, and feelings come to a head.
Word Count: 3.3k
Warnings: very angsty, talk of divorce, mentions of strippers
It's been an odd month.
Surreal, in some ways.
You and Aaron have been on the brink of divorce for a while, but once you finally said the word, everything changed. It opened up a new world of feelings and even more hurt.
It didn't seem possible to feel more hurt, but here you are, sitting on the couch, feet tucked beside you, and a glass of wine on the coffee table. You need it for your nighttime reading, the first draft of a separation agreement, your and Aaron's full names on the top.
It feels like physical proof that you and Aaron have failed. Every sacrifice that was made in the decade you had been together wasn't enough. All the love in the world wasn't enough.
It hits you in a deeper place in your chest than you knew existed, and it makes breathing difficult.
Those papers are a taunt you've been putting off confronting, but it's time. It's something you have to do.
Your eyes gloss over the words, but you catch yourself slipping into a defense strategy where your name is removed from you, and it's a draft divorce settlement of detached clients.
"Late-night reading?" His voice makes you jump, startled by his appearance in front of you.
You had spaced out, thought he escaped through the front door to avoid whatever this awkward situation could be categorized as. You find yourself wishing that he did as he looks at you, trying to profile your thoughts. Dick.
You're both trying to keep life somewhat normal for the children, not wanting them to be caught up in your mess which means when he's in DC, he picks them up for the day and drops them back home. You just thought he'd leave out the front door rather than come across the house to talk to you.
"It's not that late." You reply. "Do you actually want to do this?" You're not sure why you ask, not when it's going to hurt.
"Do what, Ms. L/n?" Aaron asks, but he knows. He walks behind the couch and into the kitchen, taking the open bottle of wine and pouring himself a glass without invitation.
"Get divorced." You answer before adding something you probably shouldn't since there's no need. "I'm still technically Mrs. Hotchner."
He doesn't chuckle at your quip, but he looks close. "You wouldn't be holding that if we didn't." Carefully chosen words, as expected. "I've always loved that part of your name."
You scoff, shaking your head. "That's a conflicting message."
Aaron shrugs, sitting down on the couch next to you. You kind of wish he hadn't. He could have just gone back to wherever he's staying and you wouldn't have to do this metaphorical dance.
"They're not mutually exclusive." He explains. You try to keep a neutral expression, but it's hard to hear that your soon-to-be ex-husband likes that you have the same surname. "I love the name, doesn't mean we can't get divorced."
"I won't be Mrs. Hotchner then." You remind him, but you keep it lighthearted in tone.
The air is getting too grave and when things get too grave, you both say too much. It's painful conversation, of late. No more 'I love you's and bleeding heart promises of fixing it. You both know you're beyond repair so you talk about that, and it's getting depressing.
He shrugs. "Not necessarily. Plenty of women keep the name after divorce."
Divorce.
That dirty word that's become your reality.
"I've not considered it." You confess. It seems easier to be honest about something little. "Would it bother you? If I kept it?"
He waits a beat, staring into the semi-opaque wine. "No. Not in the slightest."
"I feel it could get real awkward." You admit and he frowns, not understanding what you mean. "When someone says, 'Oh, are you related to Aaron Hotchner' and I have to say, 'Yeah, he's my ex-husband.' I mean, you know half this town."
Aaron considers it for a second, that thoughtful frown on his brows. "I hadn't considered it." Obviously. "You have my blessing if you keep it."
You chuckle humorlessly. "Thanks."
"This whole thing doesn't have to be adversarial." He reminds you, but it's not condescending. He's almost smiling, lips tugging up at the corners.
Your eyes narrow at him. "Have I done something to make this feel adversarial?"
It's snider than it needs to be, but he comes back professionally. "No. But I've seen couples in our situation start arguing, even yelling, at every step."
You snort out a laugh. "The life of divorce attorneys, right?" He's telling it like you don't know like you're not still in the job he left for the FBI. You bite your bottom lip, considering whether to drive the conversation in a different direction, and come to the conclusion that it might make the conversation lighter and with it, stop the clenching feeling of your heart. "Do you still remember the Beamounts?"
He laughs louder than you've heard in a while. That does the trick and gives you a quick breath of relief, but it's gone as soon as it's there. "I couldn't forget it." He assures you. "Do you still have her little card? The one you kept in your wallet?"
You're almost giddy listening to him laugh, and it makes you giggle as you recall it. "Yes! She ran those exotic dance clubs, I remember. I'm still not sure if I'm offended she gave me the card… like, I can't work out if she thought I might be interested and would want to come watch, or if she thought I'd like to leave seven years of school and a law career behind to strip."
"Do you want me to take care of that card? It's been in there for what? Twelve years?"
His offer throws you a little, but your reaction comes out as teasing. "Oh, do you need her card? Now that we're about to be divorced?"
"I certainly don't." Unsurprising, he has no trouble with women. "But I do want to preserve your wallet's purity."
"I think she gave me the non-explicit version." You explain to him. "I'm sure there are some racy ones out there for guys that are into that stuff..." Something prompts you to push it further. "Like you."
Aaron laughs again, and you get another breath. "Very occasionally." He assures you.
"There's photographic evidence, Aaron." You remind him, smiling softly at the photos Morgan showed you of some BAU boys' nights out. Aaron looked so uncomfortable, and you're sure he spent the entire evening refusing to look at any woman's assets. It makes your stomach churn knowing that, if the situation arises again, he won't act the same way. "Unfortunately, good old Mrs. Beamount is spoken for these days, so I guess the card has no use to you."
He hits you with something you don't expect, although maybe you should have since it's in line with your mutual reminiscing. "That was the first time we met. Just baby lawyers thrown into the craziest case."
"I remember laughing with you about how ridiculous it was." The first time you laughed together about that, you breathed deeper than you ever have before. "Do you remember the thing with the dog?"
He snorts with laughter. It's probably not meant to be as attractive a sound as it is. "That damn chihuahua he insisted was possessed? I remember being so annoyed because I knew the dog couldn't be possessed. I kept asking myself what I'd done so wrong in my life that I had a client expecting me to argue it." Hearing his thoughts now is different than just laughing about back then. "Then when we got there, the damn animal was barking and growling in a demonic way. That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life. It was possessed."
The passion with how he talks about a damn dog makes you smile. "Now imagine everyone seeing that and having to argue it wasn't demonic." You remind him of what your position was as his opposing counsel. "I felt so ridiculous arguing it. And she wanted the divorce settlement to include him taking it to the groomer." You shake your head disapprovingly at the memory. "It creeped me out that she kept it in her purse. That was the ugliest dog I'd ever seen."
It's odd to be laughing with him, considering your precarious relationship circumstances, and even odder that it's about the first case. Surely it should be about what Eden said today, bonding over your kids seems less intimate than talking about when you met.
"I remember she even tried to make herself look more motherly and nurturing in court, by taking care of it during the proceedings." He continues.
It's like you're watching the whole thing again, but you know how it ends. "I was just praying she wouldn't start breastfeeding it." You say. "Her boobs were so plastic that I think if she put that rabid dog near them, he'd chew them."
Aaron loses it laughing, clearly seeing the mental image that worried you 12 years ago. "Okay, okay, that's enough." He finally manages to get out.
You finish off the laughter, letting it die down rather than continuing the conversation.
"What did you think of me?" He asks, a surprising tangent. "When we first met?"
You know he knows since it had been discussed it a few times between dating and marriage, wanting to reminisce. Why he's asking now, you're not sure, and why you're answering, you're even less sure.
"I thought you were a jerk." You admit.
He laughs, but he's thinking about whether you think that again now. "Yeah?" He prompts you to go on.
"That's what happens when you arrive at a mediation meeting five minutes late with Ferrari keys." You remind him with the same disapproving frown.
You can still remember when he walked into the big boardroom, dressed in a perfectly fitted dark blue suit with his hair longer than it is now and parted down the middle. Compared to now, he looked so young, just 25 and straight out of law school, not having seen the most awful parts of the world. He's different now. His shoulder bag switched out for a briefcase being the most minor change.
When he walked into the room that first day, you were equally as pissed off by and attracted to him. It's full circle that you feel that way again.
"I had to find parking." He reasons.
You scoff, shaking your head in disbelief. "You didn't valet your car?"
"After the Ferrari, things were tight," Aaron says, but it's a joke. You both know he has money, the separation agreement dividing your assets wouldn't be so long if neither of you had money. "What about after that?" He asks. Sadistic or masochistic, you're not sure. It hurts you to relieve it in your memory, but is it hurting him?
"I was leaving that meeting. As fast as I could, of course." You pause for his laughter. "And you were already in the elevator." It hurts to recall, just like you expected. "I wondered if I should join you."
You still wonder now, if you made the right decision that day. On one hand, you'd have none of the good memories, but on the other, you wouldn't feel like your chest was clenching and your heart was threatening to shatter with each breath.
You decide to keep telling the story. "And I did. And you made me laugh, right off the bat, both of us giggling about the ridiculousness of our clients."
"Not very professional." He notes with a smirk. "Opposing counsel gossiping about their clients."
Your eyebrows pull together in a frown. "Why'd you make the first joke then?"
He wants to tell you it's because he needed to make you laugh, just to hear it and see you smile. His fear takes over and he settles for a quip. "I mean, you looked uptight, but I could tell you weren't."
Your scoff is accompanied by you hitting his shoulder, both of you laughing and it suddenly hits you that you're flirting with him.
It must hit him too because what he says is out of left field. "Part of me wonders if the reason you're only just looking at that is because, on some level, you're hoping we'll fix things and get back together." Fuck! Aaron has always been a straight shooter, but that was far too much honesty.
You gulp, the saliva in your mouth drying up. "Hey, let's just not go there, okay?" You offer. It's not a conversation you want to be having. Your mixed emotions coupled with his ability to push you, it's not a good combination.
"Sure." He admits, but his tone suggests he's unhappy, and so does his sigh. You're begging him with your eyes not to push it, to leave the house and the conversation, and not make it awkward and hurtful. "I never wanted this to be an argument. Do you know that? I know I've never been great at communicating and all this, but I've always tried to do the best for you, always tried to... I mean, I've never gotten divorced before, so I'm still feeling out the right way to do it."
You're not impressed he's lying through his teeth. Both of you know he didn't "always" do his best at communicating. Those last few months, he barely spoke to you. In fact, this conversation might contain more words than an entire few months.
And is there a "right way" to get divorced? You don't know, but you wish you could stop picking apart everything he's saying, overanalyzing.
You're caught on the first statement. "This isn't an argument, is it?"
"I guess not, but there's a vibe." He points out. "Maybe I'm being hypersensitive. Listen, I know this is hard. I think we both knew this probably wasn't going to be the easiest thing, right?"
You avert your gaze from him, a few tears welling in your eyes. "Yeah, we knew that."
"Hey, look at me." He implores.
You tilt your head to the ceiling, trying to stop crying before you start.
"If you're not ready to do this, then please just talk to me." He says- begs. "Please talk to me."
It's ironic really, him sitting there begging you to talk to him when formerly, it's been you doing the begging for him to share his feelings with you. An embarrassing amount of begging, really.
"Please don't do this." You beg back. "I'm not interested in the idea of being vulnerable in front of you, okay?"
He sighs a bit, hands falling to his side. The look on his face you can read. He's upset about not being able to comfort you, and he's begging himself not to show it. What the fuck does that mean?
"Fine." He agrees. "It's... I don't think I ever fully realized how much this whole thing would hurt, but I'm seeing it now."
You don't thank him sarcastically for being obvious. It's twisted that he's spilling his emotions now, and it's hard not to be resentful about it. If he had just fucking talked to you when you begged him to every night in your last month together, you wouldn't be here. It's too little, too late.
"I guess." You agree. "We'll just get it over with."
It stings his heart, so he stings you back. Whether it's intentional or on reaction, you can't tell. "Maybe you're right and we should get it drafted and signed so we can be finished as soon as possible." But, most surprisingly, he flip-flops. "I miss you, Y/n."
It's the same rollercoaster of emotions that your brain is riding in your head, but at least you're not saying it out loud and confusing the shit out of him. "Don't say that, Aaron." You warn him.
He has the nerve to be surprised by your harsh tone. "...what? It's just a fact. I miss you. Why is that bad to say?"
"Because I missed you for four months while you had one foot out the door of this marriage." You finally snap.
Aaron looks stunned and it only makes you angrier and more upset. "I know," He tells you.
He knows, but he'd never do anything about it. You try to act casual, taking a deep breath. "Okay." You attempt to leave it at that.
He won't let the conversation go. "I should have fought for us."
"You still can." You're not sure why you say it, but you do. Maybe you give him one last chance because you'll regret it forever if you don't.
"I am more in love with you than I have ever been." He bursts out, unable to help himself given the chance.
It makes your heart soar and your eyes water. You sit there silently, wrapping your arms around yourself tightly like it might protect you.
"I never should have put you in a position where you felt like something was wrong with us." Aaron looks at you so sincerely that you can't help the tears running down your cheeks. "It got to a point where I felt like I couldn't fix it so I didn't try, and I'm aware that was the wrong choice every day."
"I don't know what to say." You tell him. "Why bother coming to this conclusion, and telling me about it, when it's too late?" Maybe you're protecting yourself more than you need to be.
Aaron shakes his head. "Because it isn't."
"Aaron." You shake your head, holding up the literal divorce papers that exist to remind him. "So much has happened in the last four months."
"Not too much, though." He emphasizes.
He's pushing a button that makes your emotions boil over. "I don't even know where you're sleeping." You remind him firmly.
"Holy shit, Y/n!" Aaron's quick to assure you of what might have been going on in your head. "No." He pauses. "I'm sleeping at my office." You can't say that doesn't relieve you. "You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever laid eyes on. Since the day I met you, I've never looked at anyone the same."
His strong assurances make you cry more. "I don't know if we can fix this." You admit, disappointed in yourself.
"We absolutely can." He pleads to you. "You said we should get a divorce because love isn't enough to make this better, but there is more than love here. I am committed to you and I want to fix this."
You continue your tears and he reaches out to touch your cheek, wiping away your tears with the pad of his thumb. You lean into his soft touch. "I do too." You admit, the realization alleviating some of the aching in your chest.
"You mean the world to me," Aaron tells you firmly. "I will do anything to get us back on track. I wasn't before and I know I was stupid for it, but I'm listening, Y/n. To everything you need and want."
"I think we need help." You confess. "Like professional help."
He can't nod fast enough. "I agree. We can get that."
You stop him before he can pull out his phone. "Tomorrow." You request. "I just want a hug."
He hasn't had you in his arms in far too long, and he reaches out for you. You lay on his chest, letting him wrap his arms around you.
"Wow, I've missed you." He hums, breathing out a deep sigh of relief.
You sniffle your tears, nodding in agreement. "Me too."
"Y/n, I will never let it get this far again," Aaron assures you. "I was stupid and I can't lose you. I love you."
You're sure you feel the same way. Everything definitely wasn't fixed and there was a lot to do, but one thing you're sure about is being married to Aaron Hotchner. "I love you too."

This is me singing to Hotch because even tho he's like 25 years older than me, my body think i'm 60yo😅 so that trope where he feels too old to date "reader" does not work for me. He would feel younger than ever by my side😂😂😂
link
lmao he'd find it so amusing. i feel like he'd think I was so young (since I'm inappropriately young for him... but we don't talk about that) and then i'd get out of bed in the morning and all my joints would start clicking. also i envision a night where I suggest we watch reruns on cable tv, drink tea, and do some sudoku and crossword puzzles

Why did i think of Aaron with this? Like imagine him and reader (who's younger) decided to have a baby... Then a few years later they're like, jack it's almost a teen and he loves his little sibling so why not have just one more? But then this happens 😂😂😂 imagine Aaron's face!!!! He'll be like "what you mean there's three???? Babe, i'm too old for this shit!!!👁️👄👁️" And when they tell the team?! OH MY GOD. The teasing would be endless!!!
omg i had to write this asap, i love any expecting!dad!aaron/spencer
Aaron doesn't stop at the FBI offices once the team gets off the jet, and it's almost seven. He knows he'll get caught there for two hours, minimum, and with how tired you've been this pregnancy, you're likely to be asleep by the time he gets home. Plus, he hasn't been so wrapped up in the case the BAU just closed that he's forgotten about the all-important ultrasound you had scheduled.
He gets home just after 7:30, thanks to traffic and some speeding through empty streets. He dumps his go-bag in the laundry room, checking all the doors are locked out of habit.
"Y/n?" You hear Aaron's voice travel down the hallway as he assures you that it's not an intruder.
"Kitchen." You call back, snapping the lid on a container of leftover mac and cheese. Both Jack and Daisy will happily eat it the next day.
He wraps his arms around your waist from behind and pulls you into his chest, tucking his head into your neck. "Hi, honey." He hums.
You turn your head to kiss him for the first time in a week. "Hi, handsome, welcome home."
"Glad to be back." He sighs, breathing in your scent in a non-creepy way. "Kids okay?"
You reach for the baby monitor in Daisy's room, holding it up so he can see the live feed. Jack is crouched at the end of the crib, puppets on his index fingers, while Daisy stands with the help of the rail and watches his puppet show. He's always been an amazing big brother and he loves making up puppet shows for her.
"They've been good." You tell him as you watch the sweet interaction.
He hums in your ear. "So, what's the verdict? How are you?" He doesn't waste any longer than necessary to ask for the results. His wide hand travels down to rest over the little bump that's already appeared. "How is the little raspberry?"
You try not to tense too much in his arms. It would be far too easy for him to notice as your husband and a profiler. So you step away from him, still holding his hand. "Are you hungry?" You ask.
He frowns. "You're deflecting." You narrow your eyes at him, and he folds quickly, answering you. "I ate lunch."
You laugh, handing him a prepared plate. "You're meant to have three meals a day, Aaron."
"I'll eat, but please start talking because I'm getting worried." You can sense the fear in his voice, justified.
"Couch?" You offer before quickly squashing his worries. "Everything's healthy, the OB/GYN isn't concerned."
He lets out a deep breath, taking his plate from you with a 'thank you' kiss before sitting on the couch. You take the ultrasound pictures out of your handbag, sinking down next to him.
"Let me see, let me see." He cheers eagerly. You hand it over, biting your bottom lip as he flips it open. His eyes fill with tears in the most precious way as he gently traces over the glossy picture. "Wait." You know he's caught the descriptor at the bottom. Last time, it was just Baby Hotchner, but things are a little different this time. "Wait...Baby A? Is this a joke?" He turns to you with a playful expression, wrinkling his nose, but he lets a level of concern slip through.
You shake your head. "Not joking. There's a Baby B."
"There's a 'B'?" Aaron repeats, shocked. For someone who's an expert in maintaining an emotionless expression, he's struggling. His eyes look like they could pop out of his head. He takes a look under the first ultrasound, finding another, slightly different ultrasound with a different name at the bottom.
"There's a 'B'." You confirm, knowing he needs to hear it out loud, probably more than once, like you did earlier that morning.
He turns to you with raised eyebrows, letting out another breath. "Two babies." He states- incorrectly- although he's yet to be made aware of it. "Shit." He mumbles.
"Aaron, there's a 'C'." You break the news before he can accept that it's twins.
Aaron's shocked expression gets impossibly more prominent on his features. "Holy shit. Triplets? Oh my- fuck."
You chuckle softly beside him. "Yeah, triplets."
"Wow." He gasps finally, sitting with the news for a few seconds as he looks at the third ultrasound. "That's- wow."
"I know." You agree with his shock. "Crazy, huh?"
He nods slowly, looking at the final ultrasound which is a picture of all three of them. Then he turns to look at you all of a sudden. "This is real?" He asks and you nod. "You're incredible."
You laugh softly. "So you're okay?"
"Are you?" He asks, fully concerned again. "I mean, do you need a higher dose of vitamins? And you need to be eating more. And drinking more. And-"
You cut him off before he can spiral, just as you had. "I'm good, baby." You assure him. "Got it all under control, but this is quite a shock, huh?"
He nods. "We said one more and now we're going to have three more." His eyes fill with tears. "We're so lucky."
"We are." You agree. "There's lots to do though."
He cups your cheek, thumb stroking over your skin. "Tomorrow, baby. And I'll be the one doing everything. You're growing those perfect babies."
"I've got your first task." You tell him and he waits for it, no doubt going to do whatever you want. "Kiss me." He chuckles softly at what is a really easy request to grant and he leans in, kissing you gently.

i feel like this is so hotch x reader, and the team being speechless/impressed on how she's got him wrapped around her finger
id love if you could write something based on that!!
thank you sm for your time💗
let's ignore him being in love with Emily for a second
JJ and Will’s wedding is your and Aaron’s first “event” together. You’ve been together a while, everyone knows it, and acted couple-y at team gatherings at bars, but this is the first time you’re going and leaving together. It’s a regular step to most people, but it feels special, and you’re appreciating the domesticity of getting ready next to him.
The ceremony is beautiful. JJ’s gorgeous, Henry’s adorable, and Will’s dashing. It’s small and very meaningful. Seeing such wonderful people you love, who fully deserve each other, commit to one another is emotional, and you can’t help a few tears slipping out at their vows. Your very thoughtful boyfriend has tissues at the ready, handing you them from the packet in his jacket pocket.
After the sad stuff, Rossi made sure everyone was properly supplied with liquor. Expensive wine and whiskey.
And as you do it at the BAU, it becomes a party, and with a dance floor, you're fully participating once you've handed Aaron your heels.
He's not as eager to dance, or as he puts it "make an idiot out of myself."
You let him stand on the sidelines, pretending to talk to Rossi while his eyes linger fully on you.
As soon as I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston comes on and Penelope runs off to grab Morgan, platonically, you know you've got to get your boyfriend out on the dancefloor with you.
He knows what you're doing, shaking his head as you come barreling towards him. "No." He smiles as he says it, contradicting his words. "If it's not a slow dance, I don't know what to do."
You shake your head. "Not a good enough excuse, baby." You tell him with a grin. "Come on, dance with me."
He chuckles. "No."
You raise your eyebrow, tempting him to turn your offer down again. He doesn't give in, so you know you're going to have to give him a final push.
"Aaron." You whine, placing your hand on his chest before taking his tie and gently stroking the fabric.
"Y/n." He whines back, grinning at you. He knows what you're about to do- profiling being a practiced skill of his- and he doesn't stop you.
You grip his tie a little firmer at the bottom, giving you all the control over him. He could easily pull away, but he doesn't, he happily follows you right into the middle of the dancefloor. Everyone watches in shock at how effortlessly you can get him to do something outside his comfort zone for you.
Although he says he doesn't know how to dance, his hands are on your hips eagerly, and he definitely looks like he's having fun.
You watch Morgan looking at you, and notice the word he mouths 'whipped.' He blushes and turns back to look at you, and you both shrug identically. There's no use in denying it, Aaron's totally whipped for you, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Kiss the girl with Hotch, but they keep getting interrupted?
i love this so much
This is the moment you've been waiting for since you really started to fall for Aaron. It was quick, and you didn't notice it until you were standing on the jet making coffee, he was making you laugh, and your thoughts were clouded by a fantasy of him kissing you.
And now you're here. A private moment in Rossi's kitchen, toe to toe and it's about to happen. He had followed you in there, completely abandoning a conversation with Morgan, and his sudden desire makes your heart beat rapidly.
Aaron's taking time to get you both excited, his hands resting on either side of you, gripping the counter and trapping you between the marble countertop and his body. You don't mind one bit.
He's about an inch from your lips, eyelids just fluttering closed... and then it happens.
"Rossi never gets the cheese-to-cracker ratio right." Penelope's voice fills the air, bursting your bubble. She's talking without looking at you two, pulling the fridge open. "And I'm the one-" Then she shuts the door, and her eyes widen comically. "Oh, my God!" She squeals. "Oh, my God, you were about to kiss!"
You fall forward into his chest, cheeks heating up with embarrassment. No way you're going to live this down.
His hand slightly grazes your waist while he answers for you. "Do you mind?"
She quickly turns. "I didn't see anything." She assures you both, but you know she's about to go tell everyone. You and Aaron getting together is something she's been routing for.
She closes the patio door loudly on purpose, and you look back up at Aaron. "Did that just ruin-"
"Kiss me." You say, not giving him a second to overthink it.
He doesn't hesitate, pressing his lips against yours in an instant, and kissing you tenderly until you've both run out of breath.
"Damn." You mumble, your fingers coming to touch your tingling lips.
He grins at how cute it is. "Me too."

OMG please write about married!Hotch x reader going to a club tearing it up on the dance floor for a BAU night out, and an older Jack happens to be there maybe with his girlfriend and he’s mortified seeing his parents really getting down?
i would dance all over this man
Nights out with the BAU have never gotten less fun. Even as team members changed and through the years you and Aaron were away from the team, first in WITSEC then just to take a break. The plan formulated during your months together in hiding had been to wait until Jack was at college before going back to work
Hanging out at the regular bar was a sign nothing had changed in a decade.
After finishing probably the roughest case you've experienced since you rejoined the team, a team night out was needed, so you happily join Penelope in her mission to drag everyone out.
These days, Aaron doesn't need much convincing. He's more casual after WITSEC, and letting loose a little around the team isn't the worst thing in the world. It probably helps that he's not the boss anymore, and your unit chief also isn't opposed to letting her hair down.
He's only a few drinks in when you're able to convince him to come and dance. Maybe there's some using how much he loves you, but he doesn't protest.
It's hot and sweaty on the dance floor, and you're in a less-than-professional amount of clothing, dancing up on your husband like you're 24.
Aaron keeps his hands firmly on your hips, swaying to the music with you, but what's most sinful is his lips against your neck, very visible to everyone else, and the hard-on in his pants which thankfully remains unnoticed by anyone who's not pressed as hard against him as you are.
Penelope leans over to speak to you, or yell, thanks to how loud the bass is. "He's going to pull a muscle if he keeps dancing like that!" She jokes.
You giggle as you let him spin you around so you're face to face. It's gotten much more heated, and there's no doubt you're grinding provocatively against each other.
You hold his strong forearms, leaning up to whisper something downright filthy in his ear, but he talks first. "Jack."
You chuckle, grimacing. "That's not my idea of dirty talk."
"No." He shakes his head before nodding across the room. "Jack's here."
You pull away from your husband quickly, following his glance across the room before you catch his son. "What's Jack doing here?" You ask in shock. It's definitely a compromising position to be caught in with his dad.
"I don't know," Aaron says, taking hold of your hand and pulling you away from the dance floor and towards his son.
You briefly wonder if it's more or less awkward to acknowledge that he's seen you all over each other. Ignoring it might mean you can possibly look Jack in the eyes again at some point in the next ten years.
There's a girl next to him and you guess it's who he had said he was bringing home to meet you and Aaron during summer vacation. Her dress is probably not what she was expecting to be wearing during a round of meet-the-parents.
"That was awful." Jack deadpans, exactly like his father. "Seriously, I'm not sure how I'm going to burn that out of my memory."
"What are you doing here?" Aaron asks, ignoring the comments that you're struggling not to laugh at.
"Thought you guys were still on a case," Jack explains. "I didn't think I'd catch you dry-humping in a club."
You let out a chuckle while Aaron shakes his head. "Don't say that." He scolds weakly.
"I am so sorry you had to meet them like this." Jack turns to the girl next to him and says.
You offer out your hand to shake hers. "I'm Y/n, and I promise we're not always like this."
Aaron shakes her hand as well, introducing himself. "Yeah, usually our son has far better manners and introduces us to people."
"Usually, my parents aren't engaging in foreplay in the club." Jack teases you both.
You know how to get him back, and you click your tongue. "You don't know that."
It makes both boys' eyes widen while Jack's girlfriend laughs slightly, and the tension is loosened.
"Should we not mention this tomorrow?" She offers, speaking more confidently now that she can read the situation as humorous.
"Deal." You agree for both you and Aaron. "We should go."
"Home to sleep." Jack finishes the sentence for you, raising his eyebrows like a parent would do to their child, rather than the other way around.
Aaron does something you don't expect, frowning. "No promises."

Can you write something summer-y for Hotch? Maybe he comes home early from a case and finds Reader and Jack having fun in the pool? Or anything that gives that summer feeling lol
One of the best things about living with Aaron and Jack, aside from getting to live with your favorite people in the world, is the pool.
You didn’t understand why it was such a deal breaker for him since he and Jack barely used the one at his old apartment, until summer rolled around and with it, the heat.
DC’s heatwave would have killed you without a pool.
Jack had jumped in right after soccer day camp and after an hour of cooling off, he finally agreed on coming inside for dinner. The routine is a little more relaxed when Aaron’s away, even more so when it’s summer vacation.
That reason alone is probably why he easily convinced you to get back in the pool after dinner and TV, just before bedtime.
But it’s Friday and wearing him out means he’ll sleep to mid morning Saturday and hopefully it serves as a distraction from him missing his dad. Night time is usually when he misses his dad the most do you do what’s possible to ensure he’s asleep as son as his head his the pillow.
Aaron has echoed the same feeling when you talk to him on the phone, and he definitely has it worse, halfway across the country in Dallas where the weather is switching between thunderstorms and extreme humidity.
“You wanna play Marco Polo?” You ask Jack, distracting yourself from looking at the barbecue and remembering Aaron grilling just before he left.
He splashes some water your way before answering. “Okay, you go first. I’ve been practicing holding my breath though so you’ll lose.”
His identical competitive spirit to Aaron’s doesn’t go unnoticed by you and you grin as you splash some water back.
You cup your hand over your eyes, listening to him splash away from you. “Marco!” You call.
“Polo.” The reply came from a voice far too deep to being to an eight year old and you pull your hands off your eyes to see Aaron standing by the pool’s edge.
“Daddy!” Jack exclaims, jumping out of the pool and running over to hug Aaron. He’s soaking wet, dripping with chlorinated water, but Aaron don’t hesitate to hug him. He shed his jacket and tie, but you’re not sure how he’s coping with how hot it is in a long sleeve shirt and dress pants.
“Hey, bud.” Aaron greets him. “What are you doing up at…” He pauses to check the time on his watch, eyes darting to you still in the pool. “…8:42.”
You give Aaron your best puppy dog eyes, although you know he’s not mad. “Swimming, duh.” Jack replies, sassy as always.
You bite back a chuckle as Aaron does the same thing. “Yeah, I gathered that.” He says.
“Come in.” Jack insists. “You have to.”
“It’s late and you should probably be in bed already.” Aaron says, taking the firm line like you expected he would.
It’s okay though because you have a plan. “Can you give me a hand up?” You ask, swimming to the edge and holding your hand out.
Aaron frowns slightly, but he’s too excited to see you to ask why you won’t use the stairs. “Sure.” He reaches out to grab your hand but you pull hard, overpowering him easily since he doesn’t expect it.
You quickly swim out of the way, and he lands in the pool behind you, yelping- hilariously- when he hits the water.
Jack’s laughing with you, thoroughly amused by your mischief and enjoying seeing his professionally dressed dad in the pool.
When Aaron surfaces, he’s failing too glare at you. He’d fully commit to the bit of being annoyed if he wasn’t smiling so widely.
“You’re naughty.” Aaron says, waggling his finger at you.
You swim closer to him, brushing some hair off his forehead. “Welcome home.”

Father's Day
for the biggest dilf out there <3
Summary: Father's Day morning at the Hotchner household.
Word Count: 1.8k
As almost every morning for the past eight months started, you wake up to baby cries from Noah. Lately, it's through the baby monitor, the other camera set up in the nursery down the hall, but prior to that, it was a bassinet in the master bedroom, and the journey to soothe your crying baby was shorter.
At this point, it's reflexive to haul yourself out of bed when that special alarm rings, just like how it's natural for you to respond when you hear him cry.
Aaron stretches out and places a large hand on your thigh to stop you from getting up, but his head still rests against the white pillows, jet-black hair tousled.
"I'll get him." He says, mostly still asleep. He hasn't even opened his eyes.
"Don't worry." You assure him, voice thick with sleep. "Sleep in a little." You instruct him, squeezing his hand as you get out of bed and straighten the bedding. "It's Father's Day, after all."
He doesn't protest, just lets his hand drop on the comforter where you would usually lay.
You slip off into the hall, stepping through the quiet house. It's rarely like that nowadays, and you love the noise and chaos with your whole heart.
You hear the crying when you open the door to Noah's room, but it quietens when he recognizes you. He's the cutest thing you've ever seen, holding onto the crib bars to support his weight with wet tears on his cheeks. He looks most similar to the baby photos you've seen of Jack which is cute since you didn't know Jack until he was five. Adding to the list of adorable things about him, Noah's perfected the Hotchner stare when he gets grumpy.
"Good morning, sweet baby." You coo, picking him up and resting him on your hip so you can hug him. He looks at you with eyes identical to Aaron's, a rich brown.
Noah gurgles a response, grasping at your hair with his chubby fingers. It amazes you, how he's learning to communicate.
"Today is Father's Day." You tell him. Narrating your day has become common as you attempt to broaden his vocabulary. "So, we get to celebrate daddy." He's a while away from speaking, but he definitely understands who Daddy is and he giggles in the cutest way. "And he can't tell us it's too much. He probably will, but today, we don't have to listen."
After you take him out of his sleep sack and change him, like has become routine, you make your way to the kitchen with him.
"Are you hungry?" You ask rhetorically, seating him in his highchair. "I bet you are. Those bedtime bottles don't keep you full all day as well as all night, but Mommy loves that you're not waking up at night." He babbles back at you with the most adorable smile. "So, what do you think? Oatmeal sound good? Then some eggs with Jack and Daddy?"
You do what you promise, making him breakfast while he sits there smiling. You've never known a smilier baby than he is. While the oatmeal cooks, you get started beating some eggs to make breakfast for your other favorite people.
With cooked oatmeal, you put the bacon in a pan and leave it to cook so you can feed Noah.
"Here, sweet boy." You coo, squatting down and holding out a thick, plastic spoon of cooled oatmeal. "I bet you're growing and that's why you're so hungry. We're going to have to start buying you one-year-old clothes soon." You joke. He's a good eater like he's a good sleeper, easy as well as adorable, and he swallows his breakfast down.
The bacon starts sizzling in the background, and you leave the spoon on the tray, hoping he'll feed himself, while you get started on the eggs and flipping the bacon.
Noah isn't with the plan, and his tears start pretty quickly, accompanied by screams that could threaten to wake the house. He throws the spoon you were using to feed him on the floor carelessly.
"Sweetie, it's okay." You comfort him from the kitchen, but his cheeks are turning red pretty quickly, and you can't rush over to feed him without burning breakfast. It feels like an impossible juggle some days.
Just as the situation threatens to get worse, Aaron walks into the room. "Uh oh, someone's grumpy this morning." He jokes, walking to the cutlery drawer to get him a new spoon.
"I can do it." You jump in, taking the spoon from him while making sure not to burn the eggs.
"It's alright, baby." He assures you. "I'll feed him, you focus on breakfast. It smells delicious, by the way, thank you." As always, he's your perfect, well-mannered husband.
On any other day, you'd be thankful he's there and not somewhere around the country. "But it's Father's Day." You remind him in a whiney tone. "Let me do it. You just-"
Aaron squeezes your hip as he walks past. "Not happening." He says with tenderness. "I don't want you being a married single mom just because it's a random Sunday in June." He squats in front of the highchair where you were before, soothing Noah by running his hand through his soft hair before offering him some food. It does make you feel better when his crying ceases, and it's adorable when his face lights up as he recognizes his dad. "Hey, bubba, no more tears." He coos before turning back to finish what he was saying to you. "And I'm not always here, so I'm definitely going to help out when I am."
"Today's not a day for you to criticize yourself." You remind him, smiling softly. He's so attractive when he's most domestic, dad-like and husband-like. "Especially about being a dad, which, I'll be the first one to say today, you're amazing at."
He chuckles lightly, focusing his attention between feeding Noah and lovingly gazing at you. "Thank you." He tells you. "Not just for that, but for always."
You nod, always grateful you're the person who gets to compliment him endlessly.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Aaron asks in an enticing tone, turning back to look at you with a shy grin.
"Sure." You say, smiling over at him.
"I watch you on the baby monitor sometimes." He admits sheepishly, the collected facade of his slipping like it does when he's being tender. Your cheeks heat slightly at his confession. "And what you say is so sweet. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it."
Breakfast cooked, you walk over and place your hand on his shoulder. "You deserve it. You hungry?"
He doesn't get out a reply before Jack comes running into the room excitedly, throwing his arms around his dad's neck, so Aaron can hold him to his side.
Noah recognizes him and reaches out for his brother with a grin, breakfast- and crying- forgotten about.
"Good morning! Happy Father's Day." Jack cheers.
"Thanks, buddy," Aaron replies, sweeping his hair out of the way to kiss his forehead. "Love you."
"Love you too," Jack says. He reaches for Aaron's hand that's holding the spoon. "Can I do it?" Watching them interact is something you deeply enjoy, and the responsibility of feeding his brother is a duty Jack takes seriously.
Aaron nods, handing it over and letting Jack feed his brother as he makes his way over to you. He holds your waist, kissing you softly before pulling back and leaving his face an inch from yours. "Hi." He whispers.
"Hi." You say back, leaning up to kiss him once before wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him while you watch the boys.
It's your happy place. Still and full of love.
"Breakfast?" Aaron asks because although he doesn't want to stop feeling your warm body against his, the food is getting cold.
You rest your head on his chest, looking at Jack and Noah. "Are you hungry Jack?"
He looks at you with wide eyes. "Starving." He exaggerates the word.
"Bacon and eggs?" You offer, although it's already made and he won't turn it down.
"Please, please!" He replies excitedly, leaving Noah's food on the highchair. "But I have to get something." He remembers before racing off out of the kitchen.
You frown, looking as confused as Aaron. You pull apart, you to serve breakfast, and Aaron to tempt Noah with some more oatmeal, but it seems he heard what you offered his brother and no longer wants what you made him. Thankfully, he's much more willing to feed himself eggs and picks some up as soon as you set down his plate.
Jack comes back when the plates are on the table, taking his seat with a sly smile and his hands behind his back.
"What do you have?" Aaron asks with a soft smile at Jack's animated expression.
"This," Jack reveals a card, handing it over to his dad.
The words on the front are definitely his handwriting, reading Happy Father's Day in messy, lopsided black letters. There's a stick figure family at the bottom, and Aaron's wearing a cape reminiscent of a superhero.
"Wow, this is amazing." Aaron compliments him, tears in his eyes at the thoughtful card. "You did this?"
Jack nods before making Aaron open the card and pointing at a paint mark on the bottom. "But Noah did this." He explains. "He can't hold a pen, though, so I had to put the paint on his finger and stamp it for him."
Aaron's face softens even more, if possible. "Thank you. This is the best gift I've gotten, aside from you and Noah." He looks at you, making sure you know he's grateful you made him a dad again.
"What's the best part about being a father?" Jack asks randomly.
Aaron pauses, his mind filled with memories and emotions. "The best part." He starts, voice thick with emotion. "Getting to raise you and Noah, and watching you grow up and become a really awesome, kind, intelligent, and funny person. And being there for you no matter what."
"I like you being my dad," Jack tells him.
"I like being your dad too," Aaron replies, squeezing his hand. You can see the tears in his eyes, but it's too early for tears.
"And Noah's?" Jack asks, looking at his little brother.
Aaron nods, looking at his youngest and then at you. "Of course, Noah too."
It might just be a random Sunday in June, but Father's Day serves as a reminder of his privilege of being a dad, the unconditional love he has for them, and how much he appreciates having you by his side. Aaron Hotchner just loves being a dad.

Hiii!! My request is that Aaron usually gives reader a kiss before he leaves for work, one morning he doesn’t and that’s why reader is really grumpy. She was supposed to bring him something into the bullpen and she does but Aaron notices that something’s off and then she tells him and it’s all fluffy 😁😁💞💞
It's not even 6 am when you hear banging in the kitchen, and since Aaron's not next to you, you figure he's up early for some reason.
Summer is to thank for the early morning sunshine radiating through the apartment, painting the whole open planned living room golden.
As you expected, Aaron's in the kitchen, using the coffee machine. What you didn't expect was for him to be fully dressed- looking very attractive-, which he usually wouldn't be until 7:30.
"Hey, why are you up so early?" You ask, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes as you lean against the wall.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." Aaron apologizes. He pours some coffee into a travel mug. "Cruz called an early morning meeting."
You grimace, biting your bottom lip. Early morning meetings are never a good thing. "Of the bad variety?"
"I don't think so." He curbs your worry almost immediately with his secure tone. He keeps getting ready, grabbing his briefcase. "Probably just budget stuff."
"Okay, well, I'll see you in there later then." You say as he makes his way over to the side table to get his keys and wallet. He looks like he's about to leave before you say something else. "Are you forgetting something?"
He touches his hand to his forehead. "Right, breakfast. Can you-"
"Yeah." You cut him off, although it absolutely wasn't what you were hinting at. What he should have noticed was that he didn't kiss you like he does every morning.
"Thanks." He says, opening the front door. "Love you."
You sigh. "Yeah, love you too."
It dampens your morning more than it should. Disappointment gnaws at you, and you know it's irrational to let something so small bother you, but it's those little moments with Aaron that you treasure. Plus, with the nature of your jobs, you could be hours or days away from your next kiss.
The grumpiness sets in as the morning continues, and everything seems to be worse than usual from your hair to the traffic.
When you get to the BAU, he's sitting at his desk, and you make your way up to his office. He smiles when he sees you, but it slips off his face when you crudely dump a raspberry Danish on his desk.
"Good morning." You greet curtly, crossing your arms.
"Good morning," Aaron replies, confusion etching his features. "Is something wrong?"
With a sigh, you air your grievance with him. "There was no kiss this morning, Aaron. You always give me a kiss before you leave, but today you didn't."
Realization dawns on his face as he replays the morning's events in his head. He had been so worried rushing out the door that he didn't remember every part of his morning routine. "I can fix that." He promises, getting up from his desk. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I promise I didn't mean to forget."
He cups your cheeks softly and you melt into the warmth of his palms. "I know." You assure him. "But I missed it. It's one of my favorite parts of the day."
"Promise it won't happen again." He tells you, before leaning down to give you what you'd been longing for all morning. He kisses you so softly and lovingly that it's hard to feel grumpy or annoyed. "I'm very sorry. Thank you for bringing me breakfast."
"It's okay. I licked it anyway." You joke, earning a frown from him before you laugh and assure him you're not serious. "I'm kidding, but my saliva isn't that bad, is it?"
He chuckles, shaking his head. "I won't make you any more upset this morning, so I'm going to say no."

Hey my birthday is coming soon and in my dreams hotch will do something for his girlfriends birthday- hope you can write this 🤭
of course !! i hope you have an amazing day !!
It was a beautiful sunny morning when you woke up with a smile on your face. Today was guaranteed to be a good day, with Aaron at home and, marginally more unusually, your birthday. When you stretch out, you don't accidentally hit him and conclude he's not there. In his place, there's a note, and with your curiosity piqued, you grab it to read the elegant handwriting.
Happy Birthday, my love. Get ready for a day filled with surprises. Love, Aaron.
You grin, feeling a flutter of excitement and quickly get out of bed and make your way to the kitchen, where you find a delicious breakfast spread waiting for you. Aaron stands there, watching you with a soft smile.
"Happy birthday," he says, wrapping his arms around you and planting a gentle kiss on your forehead.
"Thank you, Aaron. You didn't have to do all this," you reply, feeling overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness.
"But I wanted to. Birthdays are meant to be celebrated, and you deserve the best." He tells you, his eyes filled with adoration.
After breakfast, Aaron hands you a small gift-wrapped box, waiting eagerly to see your reaction. You unwrap it to find a delicate gold necklace with a charm shaped like an 'A'. It's simple yet elegant, just like Aaron himself.
"Thank you," you say, feeling touched by the gesture. "An 'A' for Aaron?"
He nods. "You're welcome, my love. And you could always tell people it's for amazing." You laugh, shaking your head as you turn around and scoop up your hair so he can put it on you. "Just thought I should give you my initial before I give you my last name." He whispers into your ear making you shiver at his warm breath and with excitement for the future plans he's hinting at.
The day continues with surprises at every turn. Aaron has diligently planned a series of activities that are both thoughtful and exciting. From a picnic in the park to a private museum tour, every moment was designed to make your birthday unforgettable. Throughout the day, Aaron's presence and affection are constant reminders of how lucky you are to have him in your life.
As the evening approaches, you find yourself standing outside a luxurious restaurant. The setting sun casts a warm glow on the surroundings, and you can feel the anticipation building up.
Aaron smiles at you, his eyes twinkling. "Ready for the grand finale?" he asks, his voice filled with excitement.
You nod, feeling a mixture of excitement and curiosity. The maître d' leads you to a private dining area decorated with flowers and candles. Soft music plays in the background as you settle into your seats. Aaron has truly outdone himself.
As you enjoyed a delicious meal, Aaron reaches into his pocket and pulled out a small envelope. He hands it to you, his eyes filled with affection.
"Open it," he encourages.
Your eyes widen with surprise at there being another surprise, as if you haven't been spoilt enough already. You carefully open the envelope to find two airplane tickets and an entire itinerary.
"Aaron, I can't believe it. Paris!" You exclaim.
"I remember you mentioning how much you wanted to visit." He explains, a hint of excitement in his voice.
Overwhelmed with emotion, you launch yourself into Aaron's arms, hugging him tightly.
"Thank you, Aaron. This is the best gift I could ever ask for," You whisper, your heart filled with love and gratitude. "And you're going to take time off work? I must be pretty special."
He chuckles, nodding. "You are." He assures you. "You deserve the world, my love. And I'll do everything I can to give it to you."
