catch me looking up nightingale symbolisms for tales of the passerine. if danny's using the name of a songbird for a hero name, regardless of familial connections, i will utilize the symbolism tied to the bird. Anyways general gist of the nightingale symbolism i've seen, other than what wikipedia told me, is that nightingales were frequently symbolisms of spring renewal, loss/death, love, etc. catch me about to incorporate music into Danny's character
#dpxdc#danny fenton is not the ghost king#tales of the passerine au#musician danny ftw. as someone who loves music i am more than happy to make this boy a frequent singer. this au is still baby#i can squeeze singer/musician danny in pr easily.#some favorite lines i saw while looking for symbolisms is that nightingales in roman culture were associated with venus and were also said#to provide comfort in the hours of darkness. eh eh? i saw a summary that in chinese folklore they were seen as symbols of hope#it didn't specify which dynasty but it did say it was a famous tale. cite also mentioned that in John Keats' “Ode to a Nightingale”#the bird’s enchanting song transports the poet to a world of transcendent beauty providing a temporary escape from the suffering and imperm#anyways looks like nightingales in gist symbolize comfort in dark times among other things#while robins in gist symbolize renewal. celebration of life. good luck. rebirth.#nightingale's color scheme in my mind is very much a dark purple-blue and black. maybe some gray too.#he'll probably try and ditch the black and white just out of paranoia. argh i need to come up with a suit design nooooo. superhero suit#design is my weakkkest design skill. have to balance between practical and a unique silhouette thats in line with their character.#esp since danny's not using his ghost half to be nightingale -- way too risky. also not using his powers/using them very little.#maybe i can work in an ocarina batman reference lmaoo. i can lean into comic/cartoon realism and have fun with that. as a treat

i have so many thoughts about his gender and how he's kind of textually a woman and/or abinary (read tags if interested)
#i dont stand for cis rust cohle. that's not real. come on...#like... super dissociated from his body and his desires. and he has to keep a tenuous hold on his identity via various forms of self control#('contemplating the idea of allowing his own crucifixion'#being sexless#being able to compartmentalize his identity to fit a need)#says himself that relationships between men and women don't work and are only fit to procreate#says his daughter's death spared him from the sin of being a father#the act of being a man or being a woman are two extremes that are too harshly defined for him#edges drawn too sharply and not allowing for any flexibility which he needs#to be a man is to be the executioner and to be a woman is to be predestined to be the martyr that is what he believes#these are choices too difficult for him to make so he leaves them unmade vague up in the air for other people to stare sneer and interrogate#and it's worse yet when his body is equal parts weapon and a stress relief mechanism to others#gets his bodily autonomy stripped so often it's second nature to him. uses barbiturates like a 50's housewife#he cleans up real fuckin' pretty— hisself and the messes he's roughly shoved into#he's tired of talking to other people like a human being— he speaks another language entirely. one more visceral and raw#one that says the truth and nothing but.#if i think about the scene in episode six with maggie and what it means—#if the two of them are women#or if one of them is something that isn't exactly a man—#i think i will lose it#rust's looser swagger (or lack thereof) in contrast to marty's prevalent machismo btw... fascinating#his kind of deer-like charm. he Looks vulnerable only he's protected by an impermeable barrier#like don't fucking touch him. you can't#rambled so MUCH. sorry. but if you understand you understand#rust cohle#true detective#disasterpiece.png

Tastes shift basically amorally and cultural change is hardly a bright line of progress, but I'm really glad 'comedic' reviews which mostly consist of the reviewer pretending to get really angry and threatening to kill the pet of/rape/murder the author they're reviewing aren't really in the zeitgeist anymore.

My household is prepping to start the first major decluttering we've done in this house, and I usually re-read Marie Kondo's books before I start anything major like this. I don't follow her method absolutely to the letter, but it helps to get me in the right mindset and thought process for this type of project and to keep my actual goals in mind.
Bro's never read the books, and I suspect I cannot get him to even though I own a physical copy, so I was trying to find a quick summary online of the method the other day so he could at least see what I am seeing and WHEW.
I thought the initial backlash to her and her work was bad, but roughly a decade out from the initial publication (and after she released a new book with a slightly different angle), the overall sentiment on her work is so overwhelmingly negative that it's heartbreaking.
Even 7 or 8 years ago, I got the impression that the people (overwhelmingly white women bloggers who are Christian or who have a lot invested in people needing Organizational Help that they charge money for, whether they're a professional organizer or not) who had the most negative things to say about her were the ones who hadn't been willing to buy in to ANY of things she was describing, even conceptually.
Then they made one half-assed attempt to do the physical work involved while being mentally resistant to the logic, made a huge mess and got frustrated, took a bunch of pics of the mess and cried about how incredibly stupid the whole thing was. Even if they managed to clean out their clothes, they never did any of the mental legwork to figure out why they had bought so many clothes in the first place, and so I can guarantee that their houses probably look worse now than they did in 2013.
"This is so stupid and it doesn't work" inevitably was the caption under the money shot of like 20 bags of clothes they were getting rid of, but obviously this is so stupid and doesn't work.
Not every methods works for every person—I'll be the first person to say that KonMari doesn't fully meet MY needs when I'm decluttering and I'm a pretty big fan—but the sheer wall of seething hatred a decade out is pretty racist and embarrassing, I can't lie.
