Sonnet of Solitude
Strangers of seclusion are silently
Seen so weary soldiers of servitude
Spit spectres of sin - spun to lifelessly
Steal soft gifts of sweetened solitude.
Single sounds of soulless searching has stirred
Stories sold in shears of tragedy.
Slaved in salted saloons, they sing in slurred
Speeches of sick submissive finale.
Savouring songs of seldom sanctuary
Softly sowed the silky seams of safety.
Forgotten souls sunk in solitary -
Scorched by the sons of past society.
Slavery sold severed segregation
Of souls in sanguineous starvation.

July Prompt #7: Slaving
A commentary on the injustice of slavery
Awfully answered as annoying alliteration

A Quarter of Me
You took a quarter of me hoping I would fail, collapse and wilt.
But what you did not accounted was for my sheer force of will and my deep desire to live – if only to spite you.
So I took flower seeds and planted them in that empty space and watch them as they bloom,
and now I live and breathe flowers and I find myself whole again, filled with a beauty you’ll never see again.
You took a quarter of me, and I made myself survive and thrive.

Love shouldn't require
So much of your daily upkeep,
Making you fall like
A dreary magnolia petal,
It should make you sail
Water walk with a pride
Brightening up your gaze,
Don't call it love
When it leaves you disconnected
Fragmented into a thousand pieces
Glimmering with tears.

The extremely sad truth is:
Being alive is quiet, no matter
How loudly you live. You disappear
Into the noise of everything around you.
People will forget you exist just simply
Because they know that you are in fact
Still existing somewhere, so all must be well.
Death however, is deafening no matter
How quietly you slip away. Although it may
Be ironic, it is true. People notice you no
Longer existing even though they didn’t
Care that you were in the first place. That
Is when you suddenly become important;
When it’s too late.

Sharing Lies
I have a new favorite game.
Sharing lies with you.
Our little secrets
That keep us close
And make our hearts beat faster.
I know you should never lie,
But there’s something so beautiful
And something so right in this wrong
That I can’t help myself.
But the best part of it is,
If this all comes crashing down,
At least we burn together.

Magnolia*
There’s nothing quite like closing your eyes and breathing in the woods after the rain,
there’s magic in the air the way the scent of wet dirt, trees and flowers take over your senses.
There’s nothing quite like running in a field of flowers and letting the wind tussle your hair,
the way your heart beats as you run beneath clear blue skies is at the same rhythm the earth hums.
There’s nothing quite like diving into the deep ocean and letting its cool waters calm your soul,
it sings a lullaby that you can only hear when you are wrapped in its embrace.
There’s nothing quite like loving mother nature and taking a moment to simply be in it.
- Ely C. Winters.

The way your hands work
Peeling different things for everyone
Wrinkles and lines depict
So much that you want to tell,
Yet silent are your movements
As if you're doing everything in reverence,
As if you're a sentinel
Of a treasure so prone
To being lost,
And even through your ordinary movements
You radiate a magnetic appeal,
That remains etched in my vision.

The way your eyes light up
With the spirit of recognition,
Illuminating the environment
Making all questions become vapour
Is the sight that mesmerizes
Makes her gleam
Like the most sacred crystal,
Together they birth
An aura of utmost intimacy,
Without any words
Any action
Any movement.

Nightfall
The moon and the stars are out, look how beautifully they illuminate that dark blue velvet night, it’s so peaceful, it calms the heart. (The galaxy has a story to tell, listen closely.)
Standing beneath the heavens at night, there is a special sort of magic, one that sings enchantments and promises only the soul hears. (The galaxy sings lullabies to you, listen closely.)
The moon, the stars shine as they illuminate a path that only shows when nightfall comes, one that hides when the blazing sun is up. (The galaxy waits for you, come home.)

The Songstress
She takes the stage with confidence, she is the picture of calm and she radiates warm. There’s magic in her, one that is old as time.
It happens when the music starts, when she opens her mouth and the words dance at the rhythm she wants them to dance.
She’s a songstress of old, a diva, one that has no match. She sings out her heart and she has no qualms in making you cry as she sings about lost love.

Magnetic
There is something magnetic about her, the way she simply attracts others to her gravitational zone.
The way people can’t seem to look away as she moves with grace and elegance around the room, charming everyone.
She is hard to resist, one look and one smile and you’re done and waiting for a moment of attention.
Look at how people walk towards her, as if there was something pulling them towards her gently.
Goddess or nymph, whatever she may be, she’s irresistible and magnetic so feel free to give in.

Something Off
You look at her with hungry eyes, how very vulgar of you.
The way the words spill from your lips with such gracelessness as she does her best not flinch or recoil from you.
There’s something off about you, she’s known men like you before.
You do your best to try and seduce her to your side, never once seeing that all she wants to do is run from the disaster you are. There’s something very wrong about you and some of us can see it.

The Nile
There is an undeniable wonder the way these waters bring life to a desert. The way it moves and makes it banks green and filled with plants.
(For the water and the sand will be there, long after we’re gone.)
Defying the heat and the sand, it moves freely, an unstoppable force of nature that reminds us that we are temporary residents of this wondrous world.
(For the water and the sand will be there, long after we’re gone.)
