Ando, unlike the lamb in the main AU, does tell his little brother what the golden skull necklace is, and as you can see, that blessed one only understood «immortality = you can't die». Deciding to immediately test that theory by jumping off a cliff.

My lamb is something special.

Now I would like to comment that in this AU, the theme of the golden skull necklace is used for what it is: a necklace that only grants one more long life, but it does not make you immune to death itself. So it was quite obvious that that fall would have ended the life of our favorite little lamb with just a few days back in the land of the living.

Luckily for him, Ando knew what he was getting into when he decided to bring him back XD

Silas gripped his arm that had been slashed with the knife. Part of his suit was torn off and fell to the ground. There was a large cut across his arm, dripping blood everywhere. He chuckled.

“Oh, Aspen,” Silas groaned, bringing his bleeding arm to his lips and licking up the blood. ���Now, that was unexpected! I didn’t think you had it in you!”

“W-wait,” Aspen sputtered, suddenly realizing he missed. He missed. He was so fucking dead. “I-I’m- I—”

The vampire only smirked at him, and in an instant, Aspen was shoved into the wall behind him, cold body of his captor pressing into his own, his wrists held firmly above his head.

Aspen breathed heavily under the weight of the vampire, tears burning in his eyes. He almost dropped the knife still in his hand, but Silas picked it up and shoved it back into his palm, wrapping Aspen’s fingers tightly around it.

“What? Giving up so soon?” Silas laughed. “C’mon, don’t you wanna finish the job?”

“What?” Aspen breathed.

“You think you can hurt me? Kill me? Then do it. Come on, Aspen, do it again.”

“I-I ca-can’t. I’m sorry, please—”

Silas leaned in closer, so close, too close. He gripped Aspen’s hand tight in his own and led it to his chest. “I know you want to, Aspen. Cut me up. See what happens.”

COLONIALISM, COLLABORATION, AND K-POP: THE CASE OF FABLE'S BYEONGHWI

In the almost seven years of their career so far, South Korean boy group Fable have made a name for themselves with their unflinching and unapologetically traditional Korean concept. In an industry whose fans debate the Westernization of the genre daily, Fable provides a breath of fresh air.

That isn’t to say they’re without their fair share of controversies. They remain notorious for a 2020 scandal where netizens revealed that one member, Mingeun, lied about his nationality, presenting himself as South Korean when in reality, he’s Canadian. They were also the subject of a call-out post by a YouTuber who later debuted as the center of co-ed group Lightspeed. The video was addressed by Fable members Mingeun and Jaeseop, which perhaps led further to its infamy.

Having called into question who can be in Fable (does a passport make an identity?) and what exactly the group stands for (a still-hotly debated topic), the latest Fable controversy centers the group’s youngest member, Byeonghwi—or more accurately, the group’s youngest member Byeonghwi’s great-grandfather.

On January 22, 2025, Fable members Byeonghwi, Haksu, and Andrew—the last of whom is sometimes known better by his stage name, Yejun—participated in an ad campaign for Ssijok+ (씨족+, from the Korean word for “clan”), an online platform similar to Ancestry.com that provides insights into a person’s ancestral past. The ads, which aired both on television and across social media, showcased Byeonghwi’s discovery of the tax records collected by his great-grandfather, Haksu’s confirmation of his noble roots, and Andrew’s findings of the ship manifests on which his great-great-grandparents immigrated to the United States via Hawaii. The ads were meant to be followed by longer videos on Fable’s YouTube channel, where each of the three members shared their discoveries in more detail. Byeonghwi’s individual video was released first. It remains the only one of the three videos publicly uploaded. Although no longer available, it has been archived by netizens and sliced into pieces for the most online to decipher.

Hello everyone, I’m Fable’s Byeonghwi.” He sits behind a desk in the center of the frame, hands clasped together on the table in front of him. “Today, I’m going to share a story of my past with everyone. I’m the first member to do this, so please look after me well.” He bows his head. From somewhere outside of the frame, he retrieves a stack of papers. “Ssijok+ helped me find this information.” He shows the top paper to the camera: a glossy black and white photo of a middle-aged man with a stern expression in a formal Western-style suit. “My great-grandfather was the first of my family to live in Jecheon. He was born in the South Hamgyong province in the north and fled south during the war when the Soviets occupied his hometown. I knew a little about him because he picked our surname, Lim. Since he was born during Japanese occupation, he only had a Japanese name for the beginning of his life.” He picked up the next paper, a shadowy scan of a clearly crumpled piece of paper littered with characters. “This is my family’s register. The character for Lim is the one for responsibility.” He points out one section of the register, where the Hanja characters begin to blur together. “His first name was Shidae, from one of the characters of his given Japanese name, and Daehanminguk.” 

As it turns out, this is far from the entire story. While everything Byeonghwi mentioned is accurate, there is, of course, much more he didn't mention. The first person to discover this was the anonymous author of a Pannchoa post who asked in the title, “Did anyone do their research? Fable’s Byeonghwi has chinilpa relatives.” The author used the same service as Fable, except they started with the name of Byeonghwi’s great-grandfather. From there, as the poster described, his name was discovered as part of a list of Korean collaborators with imperial Japan. As if to damn Byeonghwi even further, Ssijok+ also surfaced ancestral records of his great-great-grandfather, whose name was found on the same list. The anonymous poster did not have to explain much more, as netizens quickly drew their own conclusions, which many of them left in the comments of the post.

At the time of this writing, the most popular comment, with nearly three thousand votes, reads, “Ah, it’s shameful, isn’t it? To be a normal citizen with chinilpa heritage is one thing. To be a Fable member with chinilpa heritage is fucking embarrassing.” 

To grasp the gravity of the situation—and to understand the conclusions netizens found themselves at—we have to take a few steps back. The term “chinilpa,” which appeared no less than ten times in the original post, and in nearly every comment, is a derogatory term used for Korean citizens who worked for or with the Japanese empire. The most prominent examples are the five imperial ministers who signed the Japan–Korea Treaty of 1905 that turned the Korean Empire into a Japanese protectorate. Lesser examples would include, according to Institute for Research in Collaborationists Activities’s list that Byeonghwi’s ancestors found themselves on, military officers, intellectuals, and officials who assisted the Japanese government.

Fable, on the other hand, have always presented themselves as pro-Korea, and lean into nationalist sentiment from time to time. From supporting South Korea’s claim to the Liancourt Rocks to Intak’s Yi Sang-inspired solo debut album, they present a fervent front of Korean culture.

In an effort to protect Byeonghwi’s image, Fabulists—the collective name for Fable’s fans—would end up digging a deeper grave. The Institute for Research in Collaborationists Activities created their list based on rank and title, rather than deeds. The days following the spread of the Pannchoa post nearly turned into a witch hunt as fans did their best to exonerate Byeonghwi and prove his ancestors were part of the list because it covered their jobs. Instead, they discovered, with all too much ease, that Shidae—Byeonghwi’s great-grandfather—inherited much of his standing from his father, Kitadai Hitoshi (来代 将). It is presumed that he had a Korean name, but much of the information related to him was found in relation to his Japanese name. Educated in Japan, he was appointed as a low-ranking government official shortly after returning to Korea. The official annexation of Korea saw his promotion to a moderately high-ranking finance minister. Perhaps the most incriminating piece of evidence of his wrongdoings was his signature of approval on the budget of the Manchukuo National Railway through modern day North Korea and China’s Jilin province.

While there is no way we in the twenty-first century can definitively understand Hitoshi or Shidae’s motivations, the remnants of their actions are enough proof for many to denounce them and now their descendant. It is possible that Hitoshi saw Japanese annexation as a path to Korea’s modernization—it wasn’t too long ago that Korea was the backwater of East Asia, rather than the country producing world-renowned idol groups and hit Netflix shows and Nobel Prize laureates—or he simply wanted a way to survive what looked like an inevitable force of empire at the time. It is also possible that he supported the ideology of imperial Japan.

In the modern day, having firmly painted Byeonghwi in a rather negative light, Fabulists turned to the next best thing: Fable’s agency, Zenith Entertainment. Their approach, however, was far from unified. They expressed a myriad of sentiments, both online and in person. Byeonghwi should leave the group. Byeonghwi should take a hiatus and reflect. Byeonghwi shouldn’t have to repent for the actions of his deceased ancestors. Byeonghwi shouldn’t apologize for something that happened a hundred years ago.

Clearly aware of the online firestorm, Zenith Entertainment began to quietly make their move. The timeline was chronicled by one of Fable’s most prominent Western fanbases, prodbyfable on Twitter. Byeonghwi’s video was first made private on YouTube, before being removed completely less than a day later. The ads, which had at first featured prominently across various social media platforms, grew less and less frequent. Ssijok+ even removed Fable’s promotional videos from their website. The original Pannchoa post also vanished around this time. 

Throughout this entire ordeal, the members of Fable were uncharacteristically quiet. Given that they had defended their honor when attacked via YouTube video essay, it came as a slight surprise that no one said a word in defense of Byeonghwi. The single exception came from an audio recording posted by a fan who attended a variety show shoot.

[silence] KIYOUNG: You shouldn’t ask him questions like that. HOST: Don’t you think your fans deserve to know the truth about who they’re supporting? MINGEUN: [softly] Ow. ANDREW: Byeonghwi is the same person our fans have always known. He isn’t responsible for what his great-grandfather did. 

The audio clip went viral immediately. It spread past the confines of online k-pop spaces, becoming more of a general online controversy rather than one centering k-pop idols. A version of the clip with English subtitles appeared on my For You page, which is how I first learned about it. As its popularity grew, k-pop fans were quick to explain what exactly was so bad about Byeonghwi’s situation. At the peak of the online discourse, one viral Twitter thread compared Byeonghwi’s relatives to Jews who worked with or for Nazi Germany.

As the dust settled, Fabulists finally found the time to ask the next pressing question: what about Fable’s newest album, set to release in less than two weeks? (And then the less pressing and mostly unasked question: if Byeonghwi’s ancestors collaborated, who else might have chinilpa relations?)

Zenith Entertainment released their only official statement on the situation on February 9. The English version of the letter reads as follows:

Hello, this is Zenith Entertainment. Over the past two weeks, we have been saddened to see the reactions of Fabulists to Byeonghwi’s personal history. We will take proper legal action against those who seek to defame our artists. Fable has always strived to fully represent the past and provide an accurate depiction of history. There are parts of history that many would find embarrassing, shameful, or otherwise repugnant. It is our duty to recognize and acknowledge these events in order to ensure that they will not happen again. Although we recognize that many Fabulists will disagree with our perspective, we do not wish to erase or ignore the actions and repercussions of Byeonghwi’s ancestors. Byeonghwi will remain a member of Fable, although he will not be participating in the group’s fifth album. In order for the other members to properly prepare, 자수성가 (自手成家) will be released on February 20, 2025. We ask that you continue to show Fable the same love and support.

Like the original video, this statement was also quickly picked apart. Fabulists were quick to point out that it took them two weeks to prepare this, and they went as far as to acknowledge that fact within the statement. “Proper legal action” was also met with cynicism, given that it came from a company who waited until a physical assault took place to try to press charges against a stalker. With its defense of Byeonghwi and no apology, as is usual in any sort of k-pop controversy, Fabulists began to run the same cycle of debates over whether or not he has anything to apologize for.

Within the scope of South Korea’s modern landscape, Byeonghwi’s case is far from unique. In fact, it bears a startling resemblance to the twenty-year-old situation of politician Shin Ki-nam. A member of the liberal Uri Party, he supported President Roh Moo-hyun’s investigations of Japanese collaborators. The same investigation discovered that Shin’s father was a member of the colonial police force, and therefore ripe for chinilpa accusations, in the same way Fable’s initial innocent ad campaign resulted in much more than Byeonghwi bargained for.

Fable’s next album is still slated to release on February 20.

there's one thing you're missing, yes- the vake yearner is a noman!!

in-game/in fallen london canon, nomen are a christmas-exclusive companion with a special decaying mechanic. they're always made in the image of your FLPC (essentially being a clone of them) and they will almost always die, no matter what, come the end of winter.

when your "noman's friend" quality hits zero, the noman melts, and is removed from your inventory forever. there is no way to save it. there is no way to keep it. you can only watch and wait.

there are special challenges to keep the noman alive for an unusually long time (the longest and most difficult of these being the memories of a doubled spring achievement, which requires keeping it alive until early may) but beyond easter, sustaining the noman is pretty much mathematically impossible. it requires an absurd amount of expensive items that will take multiple years of grinding to accumulate, and overall it's just not worth it in the long run.

all nomen die. that's just what they do.

...............except, well, the vake yearner is a special case. she can sustain herself- for the most part- completely independently, with no assistance required from her original self (the scoundrel) nor her makers (the scientist and the academic). additionally, and probably far more importantly, she does not melt. unlike all other nomen, she can last forever provided she has a steady supply of sorrow and blood. she was even created in the middle of summer!

As I mentioned before, Ando is still not aware of what his brother did to him to bring him back, and even less that his brother has him tied to life for "a reason" that I have yet to draw <(ouo)>

Author's Notes: I think Blake doesn't really care what specifically happens to Rory so long as it's awful for her. I may write a part two for this sometime. Gotta have lots of tests for your science!

There had been something in Rory's food.

She should've known.

She should have fucking known.

Of course Blake would've had the sense not to make it too obvious. It wasn't as though he'd had the servants bring her a platter of filet mignon and a glass of whatever wine he locked away underground just as jealously as he kept her.

But there had been a bread roll - still warm and soft with a pat of butter - served beside her usual tasteless porridge. Rory had thought that, maybe, it was another of Blake's little taunts - just another way of reminding of good things, so he could snatch them away from her again.

Or maybe it was a servant or someone in the kitchen, taking the smallest amount of mercy on her, trying to assuage their own guilt while taking a paycheck from an absolute monster.

Or maybe it was just poisoned, and she would be dead again soon. Really, Rory had been too hungry to care which one it was, and that one glorious mouthful of warmth had been too much for her to resist.

She wished she had though, even if it would've inevitably been stuffed down her throat if she hadn't eaten it on her own, because now -

Blake had arrived at her cell 20 minutes after the dinner tray, flanked by his hired guards, Garret and Sienna. Without a word from their employer, the two of them had proceeded in, dragging Rory to her feet and beginning to tightly bind her arms behind her with rope.

Normally, if she was unshackled as she was, Rory would've backed herself into a corner and started kicking and scratching and struggling against them, futile as her efforts would be.

On this occasion, however, not only was Rory practically limp in their grasp, needing to lean against Garret to so much as stand while Sienna began to bind her, the merest jostling of her person caused Rory to let out a terrible, humiliating moan.

There had been something in Rory's food - and she knew without a shadow of a doubt because her entire body was on fire with arousal.

Rory could barely even lift her head as Blake approached her. She didn't want to anyway. It was the only even mildly conscious thought she had, that she didn't want him to see her with her face as flushed as freshly beaten flesh, tears of frustration spilling from the corners of her eyes, her body heaving with every breath she took as she used every ounce of her concentration not to - not to -

Blake grabbed Rory's fiery bangs and forced her to meet his eyes regardless. As usual, what Rory wanted didn't have anything to do with what she got.

"Are you enjoying my present, darling?" the man asked. He titled Rory's head back and forth, admiring his handiwork.

Rory breathed in heavily a moment, trying to compose herself. "What did y...wha' di - " she tried to asked, but even those meager words slurred in her mouth, coming out weak and breathy.

Garret had to re-double his efforts to hold her upright as she stumbled into him. Rory thought she heard Sienna snicker behind her.

Blake seemed no less amused. "Let me save you the effort," he said with a controlled smirk. "I'm a monster, I'm the worst, I am, in your preferred terminology, a 'sick fuck.' But you may be pleased to learn that today's activity is contributing to scientific advancement as well. Isn't that wonderful?"

"Oh...yeah..." Rory gasped out as carefully as she could manage. "I...I'm so - "

Every breath felt like it was bringing her closer to the edge. Her head swam and she could barely see straight, as if she was standing in a fun house world, and that was to say nothing of the heat building between her thighs, but she couldn't even think of that, because if she thought of that -

Blake used just a knuckle from his free hand to tip Rory's gasping mouth closed. "Keep your mouth shut, darling," he told her. "You'll attract flies gaping like that."

If Rory's body and mind hadn't been otherwise consumed, she knew she would've been overcome by a hatred for Blake as she had never felt before.

"It's a new drug some acquaintances of mine have developed," Blake carried on. "An aphrodisiac, in case you hadn't guessed. Too powerful and too costly for mass-market consumption, but just perfect for the...let's just say, special friends of people such as myself."

Rory blinked at him heavily, her brain struggling to process. What did he mean by that? Friends? People like him? Like her?

"It's still in the early stages of development, and my acquaintances needed some test subjects, so I volunteered you to help them out," he said. "After all, any unfortunate side effects can be healed by your unique physiology, and I find it a nice excuse to dote on you while you're in this state."

"Dote - !" The screamed word had barely escaped Rory's lips before it was followed by a gasp - another gasp, a strangled, half-suppressed scream as Rory squeezed her legs together, begging, pleading with her body not to betray her, not when it had carried her through so much pain and suffering, not to fail her here - now -

Blake held her face up to stare into his, watching her with a placid smile as the convulsion of pleasure wracked her body. He only let go when she finished with a whimper, letting her head fall away with any remaining shred of her pride.

"Well, it's good to see it seems to be working," Blake mused. "Although, I suppose that's hardly surprising. I gave you four times the recommended dose. A bit of impish curiosity on my part. Perhaps not the best decision for test results, but I was so excited to see you like this."

Four times the dose. No wonder. Her body still shook and shivered, gripped with an irrepressible heat. The aphrodisiac had far from left her. The only thing the first release had given her was the presence of mind to listen to Blake's cool voice above her as it prepared to take her again.

"Here's what's going to happen next. Garret and Sienna are going to take you upstairs to one of my guest rooms. They will tie you to the bed, which I hope you'll find to your liking, as you will remain there for the next 48 hours, minimum, both to experience the drug fully, then to observe any immediate after-effects.

"You will have cameras recording you at all times. Every move, every sound, every expression. These recordings will be shared with my acquaintances, in addition to the copies I will keep for my own reference. You will be accompanied at all times by a rotation of my medical staff, who will occasionally ask you questions about your physical state. I have given them and the rest of my staff strict instructions to not to touch you under any circumstances. However..."

At this, Blake leaned close over Rory's bowed head, his deep voice rumbling down through her.

"If you find any way to misbehave, or give any impression you are not giving your full and honest cooperation with the doctors' questions, I have given them and the rest of my staff full discretion to administer additional doses of the drug, until you decide to cooperate again. Is that understood?"

Rory's mouth fell open at the thought. Her body burned badly enough as it was. She could barely stay conscious of anything but the primal sensations ripping through her. And Blake's people - she could already imagine Sienna making her swallow another dose after dose just to see her squirm, or worse, just so they could keep her under observation and keep running the clock on billable hours for Blake.

"I said - "

Blake grabbed Rory's chin suddenly and harshly, forcing her head up once again.

"Is that," he repeated, "understood?"

Rory blinked in his grasp. She could feel the heat rising in her again. Weakly, she nodded, if only to tear his eyes off her as soon as possible.

"Good," Blake nodded before letting her go. "Very good."

The man took a step back before looking to his security team. "Make sure she's settled and our team have everything they need," he instructed them.

In perfect tandem, Sienna and Garret nodded and began to drag Rory out of the cell. She had already resigned herself to this new torment when, as usual, Blake found one last way to turn the screws that much tighter.

"And make sure my darling receives another dose when you arrive, will you?" he called out. "She's really got to learn, there's no room for non-compliance in these types of things."

Zielo vs Caderyn. Who's surviving?

As much as I love Cadeyrn, he'd get absolutely OBLITERATED by Zielo. XD Several factors as to why.

Zielo is a lot more put together than Cadeyrn, who's insane and unstable and loses his composure very easily.

Zielo is a GOD. They're both immortal, yes, but Zielo could very easily just eat the Immortals dimension and that would be that.

Zielo could also probably very easily turn Cadeyrn into a Soulless after playing with him for a bit.

Zielo could grab the Chaos Emeralds from this world and destroy them, robbing Cadeyrn of his powers and leaving his mind in shambles.

If Cadeyrn was smart enough, fast enough, and didn't let Zielo get under his skin, he might be able to come out on top. Cute!!! You know, I adored learning about squids when I was a kid. Giant and Colossal squids especially. I still do, actually. They're so cool!!!! We are so lucky to live on a planet with horrifying oceans filled with great and terrible monsters to learn about and study, but also come up with folk tales and stuff about. I love it.

Anyway, here's my squid-est OC. His name is Minoru. I love him and I always love an excuse to show off my OCs.

All these are done in a couple of journals I have that have prompts at the bottom of each page, but I don't wanna fill the prompts for me (thinking about myself, ugh) so I use randomly selected OCs instead.

The character development from "keeps mostly to himself" to "full-blooded extrovert" in, like, two months is neat.

His mum, the Kraken (who usually prefers to hang out in his male human form but had a one-night thing with Zher in female form several years ago that resulted in Mino)

His 1/2 sister Cotovatryn (who lives in a mermaid city and prefers to not interact with anyone else)

His 1/2 brother Aten (who is an irritable librarian who uses his shapeshifting spider abilities to climb bookshelves easily)

His 1/2 brother Kyle (who is only just now learning that he has shapeshifting spider powers and is still coming to terms with it)
