An expression of a general sentiment that's finally coalesced into words during a discussion with my siblings:

I am an absolute sucker for liminal spaces, dreamcore, whatever you call that whole 'aesthetic'. The very specific yet vague childhood nostalgia it draws on, the loneliness, the emptiness, combined with a creeping sense that something isn't quite right here. I love it, and I eat it right up.

The millisecond you show what isn't right- add actual horror elements, or God forbid some sort of entity- the entire specific vibe that draws me in just evaporates. Endless empty corridors? Hell yes. But throw a blood splatter on the wall, and you've completely lost me and completely changed the overall tone.

AKA, that feeling when your sister professes her undying love for 'the backrooms', you get excited, but it turns out she just enjoys playing rainbow reskinned Slender The Eight Pages that coincidentally happens to be set in the poolrooms.

Dearest People of the Page. This is Christopher. In a little over a week from today this page will be marking the sad, two year anniversary of Anne's passing. While I've been moved by the response here to my sharing of personal recollections of my life with Anne, I'm curious to hear how you'd like us to mark this sad anniversary. Should it be a time for celebrating her legacy or would you prefer a more [somber] remembrance? Perhaps I should invite all of you to share your favorite quote from Anne's novels and I can share the posts to the main feed accordingly? And some of you might prefer we simply mark the day in passing and focus more posts and energies on days like her birthday and the anniversary of the publication of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. The tone and energy of this page is largely up to you as we bring her legacy forward. Meanwhile, plans for Anne's Celebration of Life in New Orleans are deepening and accelerating and we should have some more updates soon. In the meantime I'm sharing this photo of Anne from her office in our San Francisco home This would have been taken right around the time she was writing THE VAMPIRE LESTAT in the mid-1980's. Also has anyone else experienced the liminal space feeling in subnautica? For me it specifically hits at sunrise or sunset in open water with a bare expanse of sand sloping into the depths. I'm gonna grab some screenshots later to show specifically what I mean but that specific imagery is something I've had actual dreams about since I first started playing years ago.

I want some cozy vibes, so I'm going to provide them.

Just imagine it for a moment, lying in the sunshine on carpet you own, listening to music or to silence. You're safe here, you can be yourself here, this place is home. Imagine getting up in the morning to warm sunshine and laying in bed for a while cuddling a cat or dog, before going to the kitchen. You pet your cat, give them a good scratch between their ears and with them purring get them breakfast before their meows can be heard in space, a light wind blowing through the trees, rattling the leaves as the birds sing. You cradle a mug of coffee or hot chocolate as your cat curls up in your lap, assuring you you won't be moving from the table anytime soon. You smile and then keep petting their soft fur as they purr away, sounding like a little motor. Just imagine it, a kitchen you own, a place that is yours, perhaps a cottage, perhaps a house, a sailboat or an RV, but it's yours and it's safe. Safe. Safe. Safe. You don't have to pretend to be anything here. You don't have to hide your emotions away here. But perhaps it's a cottage, then you go for a morning walk in the woods as the sun shines softly. Or in a sailboat you go to the deck to plan where to go next. Either way, you control what happens here, it's home. And no one can take it from you. You're just yourself, and that's more than enough here.

Right, so I've been mulling on this one for a little bit now, n I'm not opposed to writing something for you, I'm just not... entirely sure what to write? Because the thing is, myhouse.wad doesn't actually really have anything to do with Doom as a story. Sure, Doom is important in that it's the vessel through which the story is told and one of the connections between the narrator and his dead companion. But as far as Doom itself goes, and the story about a man who was too angry/stupid to die, fighting demons and saving earth, none of that is at all relevant to myhouse.wad and its story. For all intents and purposes, Doomguy isn't actually a character in myhouse.wad. So I'm not really sure how exactly to fit him in there.
