unhinged unimportant rant about echo by crusher

long ass post about a song no one care probably, so imma put in under the cut. also these are my unorganized thoughts with no background in music theory/production sorry. however i will encourage you guys to listen to peak music 🗣️🗣️🗣️

the thing with the readmission remix is how much it is changed from the original, especially the format of it. so in the the original version, the format of the song is:

lyrical verse -> pre-chorus -> chorus -> instrumental verse -> bridge -> final chorus -> outro

but in the remix it goes like:

new instrumental verse -> chorus -> instrumental verse -> bridge -> pre-chorus -> final chorus -> outro

the remix completely cuts out the lyrical verse, which i find interesting thematically.

what's the lyrical verse? it's this:

The clock stopped ticking forever ago How long have I been up? I don't know! I can't get a grip, but I can't let go There wasn't anything to hold onto, though

in my opinion, the remix can be seen as either the sequel to the original or a reinterpretation, or maybe it's both - depends on how you see it. the way the original is formatted is that it has a classic traditional song format at first (verse - pre-chorus - chorus) and then it hits you with an instrumental verse. the remix completely messes that up by giving you a whole instrumental verse before the chorus hits and you wonder "wait where's the verse? why are we at the chorus now?". there's not lyrical verse! and the pre-chorus has been moved to the final chorus, which changes the whole vibes and story of the song! interestingly, the pre-chorus is also changed!

the pre-chorus in the original:

the pre-chorus in the remix:

Why can't I see? Why can't I see? All the colors that you see? Please can I be? Please can I be? The echo in the mirror?

i'm of two minds about this. it's either:

a) the "you" here is someone other than the echo. in that case, the original wishes to be "colorful and free" - free from a problem they perceive that makes their life miserable and lifeless. however, i think this interpretation, while valid, is kinda incongruent with the changed lyrics in the remix. so...

b) the "you" here is the echo in the mirror, which also makes sense. if you see the music videos, it's obvious why they're in black and white. the meaning behind the black and white color scheme and theme might be interpreted in different ways too. but it pretty much implies that the echo (from the other side, maybe?) can see colors (also a symbolism for different things depending on interpretation) and that's why the singer is envious of them and yearning for the same abilities.

the bridge is also changed - not lyrics though. in the original, there's this cool delay overlay effect where it seems like there's someone - some voice - is repeating what the singer says. like two beings, one copying another, like an echo. but in the end, the voice finally sings in tandem with the singer, supporting them, before both of them blends into this cacophony of singing voices. it's a really cool choice i think, because it feels like the whole song has been building up to that point where the echo becomes one with the singer. It's about fighting something within you, and you eventually become that thing you wish to fight against. you and the echo are one. at least that's my interpretation of it anyway.

but in the remix, the accompanying voices are gone, and there's only one voice singing. which i take to mean that, in the sense that this is a sequel, that the harmonization/amalgamation has been completed. there's that sense of stability that is free of haunting voices.

additionally, i don't know why but the original version (both music and song) is very much vhs/television coded, with the grain, the noise, the snow, and the vhs sounds. black-and-white can mean the envy of being left behind as a relic of the past, of being stuck in black-and-white while your "echo" - your better version - is moving to color.

(but also the popular interpretation is about bpd and/or did, which i think is also highly valid, considering how the lyrics mirror and resonate with people from the community! "i'm black, then i'm white // no! something isn't right" can be read as that!)

meanwhile, the remix has a distinctly... video game feel to it? the beginning is very glitchcore and noise music in my opinion. also it just sounds like something that would be played in a high-action video game. i think the contrast is what makes me have a specific interpretation for this songs.

the original is about fighting your demons and struggling to maintain your identity. there's waves to this song - the ups and the downs. the instrumental verse is especially interesting especially when you watch the music video. there's the ":)" parts and then there's the ":(" parts. there's that feeling of quickly swinging from one mood to another. of watching other people (the eyes) to see how they perceive you (there's that theme of mirror again). there's the gleeful manic high and the short briefs of unsatisfied lows. the bridge ("i'm gonna burn my house down") feels like this obsessive intrusive thoughts that keep haunting the singer. i feel it's about self-destruction, as the singer slowly gives into the temptation to burn bridges with other people and discard their own safety.

the remix has a consistently manic and high-energy feel to it, as if the singer is enjoying the destruction, maybe of themself and other people also. there are no eyes, only a screen showing many clips playing as if the singer has become the observer instead of the observed. the ":(" are no more in the instrumental verse. as the singer sings in the bridge, there are no voices overlapping with them except for in the end:

the voices are telling them to "look back", instead of encouraging them to "never look back" like in the original. this is interesting, since i kinda take it as this is not the voice of self-destruction, but of their past self being guilty and wishing to make things different in the past. this melancholic part leads right into the pre-chorus before the final chorus. i would argue that the pre-chorus becomes the emotional low point in the song. there's that envy, that guilt, that longing. but they're unable to act on those feelings, because we're right back to the high-energy music after this.

all in all, very interesting choices all around for the remix.

Okay, so I watched the new movie Wish last night, and let me tell you I have more than a few things to say about it. So imma try and pin down the more tangible complaints I have.

Also, my sister watched it before me and she did a bit of her own research, so my sources mostly come from her. [I cannot bear the pain of researching it myself yet]

But first, I would like to prelude by saying that Disney had so much good material just sitting there in their hands.

We could've had freaking STARBOY! Not to mention the first Disney romance in forever. And a villain couple?!

Well, they probs would've botched the whole thing up anyway, but it would be far better than this hot mess!

Numero Uno

The animation was choppy, and looked so unfinished. To me it looked like they coloured in the sketch and then decided they were too lazy to render it any further.

Numero Dos

The film all-round felt very unnatural and kinda emotionless (or emotions that were far too dramatic for the given circumstances)

And the extras?!

*proceeds to put on mocking voice*

"I want to live here!" "This food is delicious!" "But king Magnifico..."

Oh shut up! It sounds like a 2nd grade school play!

Also since I started on Magnifico, dude switched from cool and understanding to "I decide what they deserve!" in less than 10 seconds. Like bro chill.

Don't even get me started on the songs

The timing was wacky, the lyrics didn't make sense, if they were trying to go for an improvised-on-the-spot vibe they definitely got it.

Most of them sound like they're trying very hard to be a rap, but are holding back because, no it's not rap, it's a princess song. Anyway, they end up getting neither.

And the lyrics!

Vague, ungrammatical, and doesn't resonate.

Numero Cuatro

The song 'At all costs' (or "Promise as one does")

Now, when my sister heard this for the first time she didn't know what to think.

She said it felt almost like they were singing a love song to the wishes. But... that can't be right

But it was!

It was meant to be sung from Starboy to Asha, and the original title was 'Love you as one does'!

So he's a star, and immortal, but ✨️feelings✨️ And he doesn't want Asha to get hurt and so he tries to convey the weight of his feelings, and she sings back, and the creators are so lazy!

I don't think they changed a word from the damn song besides switching 'love' out for 'promise'. It made so much sense when I heard the context of the lyrics!

Oh heck, now I'm missing Starboy again...

before the song even begins, the tension is palpable.

tldr: incredibley serious and tense moment is ruined by a gong show of an attempt to have a cool song in another language.

Oh, man😭 this one is very difficult, because I don't really listen to music with 'lyrics' anymore💀 But if I really had to choose, I would say:

"Hole-dwelling" by Kikuo - for Sephiroth. The lyrics, in my opinion, perfectly depict how Sephiroth probably felt as he floated half-dead-half-alive in the Lifestream, after getting yeeted by Cloud, for over five years. And I also like to think, since the one that sings always says 'we/our/us', it's like Sephiroth and Jenova, as a part of him and his blood/cells. I just know she 'communicated' and manipulated her "son" in some way, and turning him into a villain we know of, I don't believe it was just 'going crazy' moment. It was ALL at once. Jenovas manipulation, identity crisis, (Tsizilias encouragement👀), and other stuff.

opening the presents: Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Counter! Midnight! We used to always open presents at midnight between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, our parents would send us to bed around 8, of course we didn't sleep, and we'd be woken up around midnight, and then all 20-ish of us (more if people could travel) would go one by one and open presents all at once. We still keep the tradition going as much as we can, but we don't mind picking a day or doing both days and seeing the same people twice. Both sides of the family (dad and mom) would both come, my parents go lucky that the in-laws loved each other, and we all get together/visit one another whenever we want. it pays that all of us live in the same city.

And my Maternal Grandmother has an old baby Jesus doll from Mexico (actually 2, but we use the bigger one). We place the doll (made out of clay or ceramic i think, but I can't recall, it's painted over) gently on a blanket, lift it up, and we sing him to sleep as we gently rock the blanket back and forth. Once he's "rocked to sleep" each of us will kiss his forehead to wish him a good night, before he's placed in the 'manger'.

well, finally, pritchard: I love the little chicks thing DHSHDHJDDJ though I could also so see him calling them his little cubs or something if pritchard was a black bear (or brown bear?), just a thought. you’d be surprised by how stealthy black bears can be. though eh at the same time. they’re rangers. so. I think of golden eagle for pritchard, for some reason. little eagles! too many birds in the rangers to rly call them little birds I think. and so the chicks remain

let me return to crowley and halt: the fox duo. pritchard gives halt his code name as the final parting gift before halt heads to araluen — and crowley and halt realize they were both mentored by pritchard and then that they were both made into foxes by pritchard. the renegades absolutely refer to them as the foxes because they’re an inseparable and indomitable duo. absolute forces of nature. even when crowley becomes commandant, halt is obviously his unofficial second/right hand man type whatever, and so it’s often that the leadership is referred to as “the foxes”.

retired rangers largely still keep the right to their code name. there’s enough animals y’all lmao. BUT. if a retired ranger forms a bond with an apprentice, they can choose to offer their code name to that apprentice as they graduate, and the apprentice can choose whether or not they’d like to take up the mantle. it gave crowley such a paperwork headache the first time a retired ranger approached him about it (bc I feel like it’s a thing crowley would do/allow) but as long as he keeps a very up to date list of who retired when, then there shouldn’t be issues with confusing which “sparrow” it was who did what.

because I also definitely believe that the retired rangers do Not just sit around castle araluen helping crowley with paperwork. and I think crowley absolutely Would implement some kind of mentoring program shit where apprentices spend time with the retirees and spend a month at some point in their apprenticeship swapped with another apprentice in their year, to get a different mentoring style/rangerly approach/etc. beneficial for all. Anyway.

What if rangers used code names?

What would the names be? I think they'll use animal names, cause why not?

But who would have what? They'd be animals that exist in Araluen, but by tradition, the ranger can't chose the name themselves. And I think the name would be based of their apprenticeship.

A few suggestions:

Halt: Black fox

Crowley: Red fox

Berrigan: Song bird

Will: Black cat

Gilan: Lone wolf?

Pritchard: White? eagle

As apprentices they'll be called something like little- and then whatever their mentor is.

So Gilan and Will would be called 'little fox'. And Crowley and maybe Halt would be called 'little bird'. Although Pritchard has called them 'his chicks' repeatedly. They still get teased about it by the renegade rangers.

Halt still calls Will little fox sometimes. So does Crowley though, and so does nearly every ranger.
