Two Tickets Far From Here
maniac (february 9) @black-brothers-microfic — regulus & sirius black microfic — mentions of child abuse, side effects of the cruciatus curse, hurt/confort, regulus's pov — word count: 770
"Two tickets to..." Sirius paused, glancing nervously at the route chart before looking at the half-asleep girl behind the glass. "Actually, I have no idea. We need to get to Godric's Hollow—what train should we take?"
“Is that in the West Country?” the girl asked, barely stifling a yawn.
“I... guess so?”
Regulus stood in stunned silence, watching his brother make a fool of himself without an ounce of shame. Even worse, he was starting to doubt his own sanity.
Sirius was a total maniac—Regulus had known that for a long time. But maybe he had underestimated the reach of his own bloodline, because surely, he had to be losing his mind too. How else could he explain the fact that they had just sprinted through London in the dead of night, covered in half-healed wounds, with nothing but the clothes they were wearing, heading toward a destination they didn’t even know how to reach?
It was a well-known fact that prolonged exposure to the Cruciatus Curse could cause lasting damage to the mind. So, yes, that had to be it. Brain damage. Because there was absolutely no way Regulus Black would ever willingly engage in something this reckless, foolish, and downright suicidal.
"Look, Reggie." Sirius limped toward him, holding up two tickets between his fingers. He was clearly in pain, his exhaustion evident in the way he moved. "She said there's a train leaving in a few minutes that we can take..."
"And then what?"
"Then we board another train to—"
“No.” Regulus cut him off. “I mean... the potions will stop working in less than an hour. We won’t even be able to move.” It was only a matter of time before the pain overtook them again. The fact that Regulus had even managed to scrounge up a few potions back at Grimmauld Place was a miracle—just enough to momentarily dull the pain, poorly patch up Sirius’s broken body, and, against all odds, get them out of there alive. “Neither of us will be in any condition to drag the other one along.”
"James will come pick us up," Sirius assured him, lowering himself onto the bench beside his younger brother.
“But how will he know where to find us?” Regulus asked, confused. Potter had no idea where they were. If he did, he would’ve already been here, dragging Sirius off to safety.
With a mischievous grin, Sirius pulled a small mirror from his pocket and handed it to Regulus. “We’ll tell him,” he said simply. “As soon as he wakes up, we’ll use this to let him know where we are, and he’ll come get us.”
Regulus stared at his own dumbfounded expression reflected in the mirror. His brother had lost his last remaining brain cell. They were about to board a train to Merlin-knows-where, half their bones still broken, unable to use magic without alerting their parents to their location, and this—this—was his brother’s grand plan?
Sirius burst out laughing. It was obvious he was in pain, but not enough to stop him from being entertained by whatever expression was on Regulus’s face.
Regulus felt a cold sweat break out across his skin. Doubt clawed at the edges of his mind. Maybe this had been a mistake. “Maybe we shouldn’t have—”
Sirius’s laughter died in an instant. He grabbed Regulus by the shoulders and turned him to face him. The sudden movement sent sharp pain tearing through both their bodies, but neither of them flinched.
“Don’t,” Sirius said, voice deadly serious. “Don’t say it. Don’t even think it.”
For a second, Regulus swore he was looking at a reflection of himself. His throat tightened. He felt like he couldn’t breathe, overwhelmed by the terror, the uncertainty, the adrenaline still surging through his veins.
“We did what we had to do,” Sirius continued. “If we’d stayed, one of us would’ve bled out on the carpet sooner or later. And you know it.”
Regulus swallowed hard. Sirius’s fingers brushed gently against his cheek, a silent reassurance. They both knew they were on the verge of breaking down. They had survived their home once again, but they weren’t far enough. Not yet. Not safe.
“We’ll figure this out together, Reggie,” Sirius whispered. “I promise.”
And somehow, despite the fear, despite the doubt, Regulus believed him.
Sirius exhaled heavily and stood, heading toward the platform. “C'mon, the train’s already here.”
Regulus didn’t move. “Sirius?”
“What, baby brother?” Sirius called back.
“That train is going in the opposite direction.”
Sirius paused, then shrugged. “Fuck it. That sounds like a Prongs problem. We just need a private car to sleep in.”

Hello! I sent a couple of anon asks a while back about you ranting in the tags and I’m so happy to see you actually do it 🥰 no more anon and I’ve got a question this time😅
Seeing as the AU is named after a Noah Kahan song (great choice btw!) which song would you assign each character in this universe 👀👀
OH MY GOD. Best ask ever I love noah kahan and yapping. (tbh as soon as you told me to yap in the tags I ran with it I love yapping so much it's all I do.) Thank you for giving me to an excuse to listen to every noah kahan song.
Barty: (honeslty every single Noah Kahan song is such Barty core)
Growing Sideways - do I even have to explain. No? well, I am going to. The terrifying ordeal of admitting you need help. This song is just so Barty core, especially in this AU but also it can be applied to so many characters such as Sirius and Remus so this is an honorary Sirius and Remus song as well.
Call Your Mom - Don't imagine this song after Barty's attempted suicide.
Cynic - not even going to explain just listen to the song
Sirius:
Godlight - Don't even need to explain to be honest. Just listen to the song and the first lyric will be so Sirius core that you'll understand.
False Confidence - (MY FAV NK SONG BTW) Even the title is so Sirius core, again this is just one you need to listen to and you'll get it.
Regulus:
Still + Part of Me - Black brother's angst must I say more.
Fear of Water - OK PUN INTENDED BUT ALSO THIS SONG IS SO REGULUS FEARING HIS OWN FEELINGS CORE. (This song is so jegulus in general honestly)
James:
Hollow - Him and his struggles to find himself and leave behind who he thinks everyone else wants him to be.
Busyhead - I hc him as having ADHD so busyhead itself fits him so well but also his fear of his own wants and desires is soooo
Remus:
Howling - ok so obligatory werewolf pun but also this song is sooo Remus core. But also "And I won't admit my parents split when I got sick / But I refuse to be a burden" IS SO REMUS CORE??
Bad Luck - Remus and his issues with substances while he's manic and his guilt about Sirius worrying about him.
Save Me - ok this is so Regulus, Sirius, AND Remus core but I'm putting in under Remus.
Lily:
The View Between Villages (Extended Ver.) - I love Lily angst and idk why but this song has such Lily vibes. Also an honorary Remus song as well, but I see Lily more for some reason. I can't even explain it but it gives such leaving her small-town life behind to make a name for herself.
Evan:
Strawberry Wine - This may be a controversial pick, but this song is so Evan and Rosekiller core. I picture Evan as this wannabe tough guy who doesn't want anyone to know his innermost thoughts, but then he meets Barty and somehow softens him right up. He can't help but let his feelings begin to shine through his tough exterior.
Hurt Somebody - early au Rosekiller need I say more
Dorcas + Marlene:
Sink - DORLENE CORE
Mary:
New Perspective - CHILDHOOD BESTFREINDS MARYLILY.
Peter:
Carlo's song - such a James and Peter friendship song. Just Peter watching James change and lose himself to his fears. (this is also such a Bartylus song)
Xeno: I COULDN'T FIND ONE I LIKED XENO I AM SO SORRY
Pandora:
Young Blood - Pandora who doesn't realize just how badly her childhood fucked her up because she seems well adjusted my love
#dylan's asks#some characters are just more noah kahan core than others and that's why I yapped more about them#also some songs relate to more than one character but I just picked the one that relates to the most

Hey can you make a one shot or two parter about regulus and fem reader, arrange marriage trope where regulus is distant due to his past relationship and one day yells at the reader and regrets it? With a happy ending please!! Also I don’t see many RB imagines, so glad you are writing them, okie luv u byeeeee
I love Reg with all heart so im glad you requested this!
-
Warnings: angst, fighting(screaming/yelling)
-
Unwanted
-
I’m married to Regulus Black. Not by choice though. It was arranged by our parents and it wasn’t a happy marriage. Regulus hated me or atleast he was really distant.
I tried my best to get his attention or even do something with him as husband and wife but he never budged. Today I was trying to get him to do something with me since he had the day off.
“Regulus? Can we please go out and do something? We never do!” I said sitting down next to him as he read a book. “No.” Is all Regulus said causing me to look at him confused.
“What?” I asked sounding a little defeated.
“Don’t you get it?” He asked angrily standing up. “I do not love you!” He now yelled and I winced. “This was only a marriage of convenience! I did not want to marry you!” He snapped viciously and I couldn’t help but start crying.
“Now leave me alone.” He told me not yelling now but still annoyed and angry. “As you wish.” I said getting up and going to our shared bedroom.
I owled the only two people I knew who would let me come over to their house. Remus Lupin and Sirius Black.
I couldn’t stand being in the same house as Regulus right now. They’d understand it. As the owl flew off I started packing the absolute necessities.
A few hours later Regulus had not appeared upstairs any and I had not seen him downstairs when I had checked. My owl also reappeared with a letter from Sirius and Remus saying I could come over.
I wrote Regulus a note saying that I was leaving for a few days but not saying where then grabbed my stuff and went to the fireplace.
I grabbed the floo powder and went inside the fireplace. “Lupin-Black house!” I said clearly and dropping the floo powder. As quickly as I did that is as quickly as I appeared in the house.
I stepped out into the living room to be greeted by Remus, Sirius, and shockingly James, Lily, and their baby Harry.
“What did my brother do now?” Sirius asked as they all gave me a quick hug. Lily led me to sit on the couch as I explained. “Your brother doesn’t love me is what he said. Told me to leave him alone when I tried to get him to do something just us.” I muttered as Harry crawled over sitting up in front of me babbling.
I smiled picking him up and holding him in my lap. “My brother has never been one for love. Just a stuck up prick.” Sirius told me and I tried to suppress a laugh.
“You’re just a cute little bundle of joy aren’t you, Harry?” I cooed playing with the child. “That he is.” Said James now sitting next to Lily who was next to me.
“You two are sure I can stay for a few days?” I asked looking between Remus and Sirius. “Yes. We’re sure.” Remus said with a soft smile and I thanked them.
Harry needed a nap so Lily took him and Remus showed me my room I’d be staying in. Once he showed me and left I put my stuff away and decided to lay down and take a nap myself.
As I was drifting off to sleep I layed there wondering what Regulus was doing despite what happened earlier. Soon I was asleep.
Regulus pov
After I had yelled at Y/n I had felt bad which confused me because I never felt bad before. So, I just went out but when I got home half of me expected what I was seeing right now and the other half somehow didn’t.
Y/n had packed her stuff and went away. She didn’t say where and now I was worried. I shouldn’t be, I didn’t love her. Right?
I mean I didn’t want to and was distant because of a past relationship and because our marriage was arranged. I figured that’s what she would want too.
Obviously, it wasn’t and now I regret everything. Some part of me had always admired the girl.
I tried thinking of where she could be. Her parents? No, they would be mad about her running away because they were the ones who arranged the marriage. Her sister? No, she doesn’t exactly like her sister.
My brother. That’s where. She was always friends with him and his friends in school.
Without warning my brother by owl at all I used the floo network to get there. As soon as I got there and got out of the fireplace I was met with the angry eyes of my brother.
“What are you doing here Regulus?” He questioned sternly. “I’m looking for my wife.” I sighed rubbing my forehead tiredly.
“The wife you yelled at and said you didn’t love?” Asked Remus also glaring at me. “The wife you said you never wanted to marry?” Asked James who now stood next to Sirius and Remus. All of them coming to her defense questioning him.
“Yes…” I muttered distaste in my mouth. I then looked at them with some look of determination in my eyes I had hoped. “I regret it. I’ve come to apologize to her.” I said seriously and then a different voice other than them was heard.
“Regulus?” Asked the voice and I stepped beside them in front of the others to see Y/n coming down the steps rubbing her eyes tiredly. “Y/n.” I whispered in relief.
A/n: I'm so sorry this has taken so long! I've had writers block and I've been busy with things. Btw this will have a pt 2!

do you write dad!leon hcn?? have a great day!💕
This is my first time writing headcanons so I hope this is what you are looking for! If you want a specific age for the kid, feel free to specify and I can try to go into more detail!
Dad Leon is so wholesome honestly. I imagine he has a son for sure, and he definitely asked you if they could name their son after the officer that saved him when he was a kid. (I’m imagining like a John or James.) (James Marvin Kennedy, yes I made myself cry with that one)
Jumping back in time to pregnancy, Leon was obsessed with feeling your stomach, especially once the baby started kicking. He also loved talking to your belly.
I feel like he’d be one of those dad’s who’d kiss you before he leaves, then lean down and kisses your stomach, saying I love you and goodbye to both of you ❤️
Leon definitely feels like he isn’t there enough, missing things like birthdays and firsts. Even missed James’ first steps. (He definitely teared up when you show him the video you managed to get)
With lots of reassurance though, he eventually realizes he can either feel bad about the moments he missed, or he can enjoy the moments he is there for. (He’s choosing the second one)
When James is old enough to talk, his first word is “shit”, cause he heard Leon say it. (That was a fun one to explain to you)
The first Halloween where James was old enough to pick his own costume, he said he was gonna be a superhero. He walked out in a black tee shirt and black cargo pants.
“That doesn’t look like Spiderman.”
“Spider-Man’s not a real superhero. But you are. So I’m you.” (Yes I took this from Criminal Minds)
*he needed a minute so he didn’t burst into tears right then and there*
Super protective of his family obviously. Any little bump in the night and he is up, loaded gun between his hands, scanning every inch with practiced ease.
Once James is in school, he is definitely a nervous wreck. Constantly worried about whether something could happen at the school, he annoyed the shit out of James’ teacher, asking tons of unnecessary questions during any parent-teacher thing.
Leon eventually slows down the amount of missions he goes on, not wanting to miss too much time with his family.
If you want to have another, you bet your ass he is all for it. (I headcanon that he has a SEVERE breeding kink, so the idea of putting more babies in you? Y-E-S.)

Day 7: Proposal
Since this marks one week, this is going to be extra long!
"Goodbye love," Draco says as he leaves Grimmauld Place a little late.
Harry was dressing when he left him in the room, he casts a tempus charm just outside the door. It's almost noon, Salazar knew why Harry didn't even bat an eyelid at his late morning.
He apparates to the Maya Magal in London, it's apparantly the best place to get engagement rings and both Pansy and Hermione vouch for it.
A handsomely dressed woman, probably Draco's age, greets him at the door and takes him inside.
"What would you be looking for today, sir?" she asks politely.
"Engagement rings, thank you."
"Do you have any choice or maybe a reference picture?"
"No, just something light and simple would do. He doesn't like heavy jewels or jewels for that matter." Draco says, belatedly realising that he used the masculine pronoun instead of the neutral one, Hermione had told him that Muggles didn't always see eye to eye with same gender relationships like Wizards and Witched did.
But the lady doesn't even hesitate before giving him a smile and leading him towards the middle of the store. She starts showing him a myriad of rings- all of them elegant and classy with intricate designs but nothing that would suit Harry.
After almost four hours of looking at almost each and every ring in the shop, he picks a simple band which a mixture of platinum and gold with tiny diamonds adorning it's edges. He immediately knows that this is it.
The lady smiles at him again, not a single sign in her face saying that she is frustrated or annoyed that Draco took such a long time.
"Would you like to engrave something on the inside?"
"Yes sure." Draco replies, he instantly knows what he wants. In the end, the lady- Lara tells him to come back in two hours for the ring to be ready and he thanks her and gets going.
A tempus charm shows him that he has about three hours to get home before Harry starts to suspect anything and that's plenty of time. He apparates to the cementry in Godric's hollow.
"Hello," he greets James and Lily as he sits down beside their grave on the ground, "So I wanted to ask you for Harry's hand. I know it's an ancient practice and well, you are dead but I want to do this right. I was raised this way and I'm rambling."
He takes a moment conjure some flowers before he starts talking again, "So I want to marry your son. Why should he marry me? I don't know that. Merlin, I don't even know why he loves me. Me, who is an angry arsehole to everyone and who never smiles. Weasley's definition not mine, just so you know. I can tell you why I love him though? Maybe that will be enough to convince you both. Harry, he has always been my guiding star. I don't know how but even in school when we were at each other's throats, he had been someone constant, someone always there. No matter in what way, just there. And afterwards, the war where well you know things happened and I was so bloody naive but he was there as well. He had been my only hope back then, that Harry might be able to save all of his from the doom which was Vol-voldemort. And he did, he even initiated the house unity in Eighth year and then we got seperated because of our careers and look at us now. Both working at the Ministry and even our departments are connected, somewhat. I'm an Unspeakable, you see. You would know that Harry is Head Auror but not about me. I don't know when that star, that hope became my everything. Slowly, but consistently. We grew closer and I can't imagine a day without him anymore. At the end of the day, I need to be around him else I can't fall asleep.
It's been almost twelve years since the war but some scars remain. I'm really hoping that you would look past those and forgive me and accept me as your son's husband-if he says yes that is. Maybe this is all in vain, Harry might just say no and that will be that. But I'm trying not to focus on the negatives right now. Thank you for your sacrifices and thank you so much for giving this world such a kind hearted, selfless person. Thank you for my Harry." He finishes at last, his eyes are slightly tinging but that's alright. No one's here to see him like this anyways.
He talks to them somemore, about everything about him and Harry and how much he loves him and how he would never let Harry feel like he did throughout his childhood and how he plans on proposing Harry on the anniversary of their tenth year together.
Its about 6pm when he leaves the graveyard and goes to pick up the ring.
.........
As soon as Harry hears Draco call out his goodbye, he takes out his notepad from under the socks in the drawer and checks everything he needs to do in order for everything to be perfect tomorrow.
Pick up ring
Ask the parents
Check in with Hermione and Pansy
Order the flowers
He makes goes to the Wizarding Jewelry Place first and asks for the ring.
"Yes, Mr. Potter. The ring is ready and just how you asked it to be. I'll bring it right out," the old man says, who Harry got to know was the owner of the shop from Pansy.
He comes out after several moments and in his hands is a small jewelry box, with intricate golden work over the black satin. The man opens the box and shows Harry the ring, it's perfect with its platinum and gold band and a heavy diamond in the middle of it, he checks the inside and yes, the inscription is just how he had wanted it to be.
He thanks the man and hurries to Wiltshire after making his payment.
He apparates just outside of the Manor gates, after all these years it's fairly easy to enter. The Manor has transformed drastically, and Narcissa and surprisingly, Lucius's warm welcome behaviour had helped immensely.
He had been shocked when he met Lucius as Draco's boyfriend for the first time since the war, it had been after two years of dating Draco and he had been invited over. Gone was the bigoted, slimy bastard he knew, this Lucius was still as much of an arsehole but not the same one. They were not friendly exactly, but he liked to think that he and Lucius got along nowadays. Well it's almost been eight years so he guessed with time anything was possible.
The gates opens to him without any sort of hindrance. Just as he was going to knock on the door, Mipsy opens it and pokes her head out.
"Mipsy is here to greet Harry Potter. Who does Harry Potter like to meet? Master Draco isn't here today."
"Yes, Mipsy I'm aware that Draco isn't here. I'm here to meet Lucius and Narcissa actually." He explains, Mipsy nods her head and vanishes with a small pop, only to return twenty seconds later, and asking Harry to follow her to the parlor.
"Harry, dear. What do we owe this pleasure to?" Narcissa asks as he enters the room.
"Sure you haven't lost your way here? Draco doesn't live here any longer." Lucius says at the same time.
"Yes, Lucius I haven't lost my way and I know Draco doesn't live here any longer, since you know, he lives with me now," he retorts back- Merlin it's weird enough calling Lucius by his name in his head, it's weirder when he says it out loud. "I actually wanted to ask for something."
"See Cissa, I told you he had ulterior motives after all," Lucius says as he looks over Harry suspiciously.
"Oh Lucius, why don't we hear out the young man before you start with all your nonsense." Narcissa says and she waves her hand towards Harry in a way to tell him to continue.
"I want to ask for Draco's hand in marriage." Harry blurts out, the silence that follows is deafening. He looks from Malfoy to the other, both of them seem to be in an intense conversation which is being spoken through their eyes.
It's Lucius who breaks the silence at last, "Why do you want to marry our son? Why should we allow you?"
"Because I love him, I know it can't be as simple as that but that's the gist of it. I love your son with my whole being. I can't imagine a day where I can't see his face or without his insults which have somehow become a constant as well. I tried to find the many reasons for which I should deserve to marry him, I can't find one. But I want to, I want to be deserved enough to marry Draco Malfoy. I want to make him happy for the rest of his life and I want to do this right for once, that's why here I'm asking permission for his hand because even though it doesn't matter nowadays. Draco loves tradition and for him, this is of great significance and I want everything to be right this time." Harry finishes and when he looks over at them, because he had said most of that looking at the carpet, Narcissa's eyes a bit glassy and Lucius who never shows emotion, is actually beaming at him.
"Very well then, Harry. You have both our permission to marry our son and we both would be honoured to welcome you into the Malfoy family. I...I might have been wrong about you afterall." Lucius says and coming from him it's high praise. He is glad both of them and he tells them so and both of them smile fondly at him. They make him stay for tea and afterwards wishes him luck as he floos to Diagon Alley to meet Hermione and Pansy at the new cafe.
"So you got the parents blessings then?" Pansy asks as she takes a sip of her firewhiskey mixed coffee.
"Yup"
"And you have the ring?" Hermione questions as she sets down her wine glass. Seriously is this a cafe or a pub?
"Right here!" He shows them the ring and they coo over it for a minute. "Is this place even a cafe or is that just for the name?"
"It's a cafe and bar, of sorts. They provide a mixture of normal drinks but add alcohol to it. You should try the vodka and peach drink. It's absolutely perfect." Pansy answers as she calls over a waiter.
"No thank you, Pans. I have to go back to my boyfriend who shouldn't even suspect that I have been anywhere but work today. Do you have anything non-alcoholic?" He directs the last question to the waiter who has come.
"Yes, right about everything can be non-alcoholic or purely alcoholic as well. The mixtures are just out speciality."
"Oh then....you know what give me a vodka and peach drink. I deserve it after spending an entire afternoon with two Malfoys." Harry says. The waiter suppresses his amusement and goes to get his order.
Pansy and Hermione snicker at him, "Oh shut it. As if you both wouldn't do the exact same."
They are still chuckling as he discusses the details of the date he had set up for tomorrow. Nowhere public because neither of them liked that, so instead he had picked up a picnic spot for tomorrow night. It would be great fun to propose in the middle of night with only the moons and stars providing them light.
Pansy and Hermione were incharge of setting everything up and they would also be telling Draco that it was a joint anniversary gift to them and they had informed Harry as well. It was the perfect ploy and no one would suspect a thing.
"Alright, the two of you. Enjoy your night, go home safely. I need to get going if I want to make it home before him." Harry says as he gets up and kisses both their cheeks one by one.
"Ron and Blaise will be here shortly so you need not worry about it, darling. We'll be alright on our own till then." Hermione says back and Pansy adds,"Draco never comes home early so you needn't worry about it."
Seriously these two are in so much sync that it terrifies him at times.
He steps out of the cafe and on a impromptu decision apparates to Godric's hollow instead.
...
Draco apparates directly inside the Manor Gates after picking up the ring.
Tabota greets him and tells him that his parents are in the third floor parlor. He makes his way quickly-he doesn't have much time left, he needs to be quick now.
"Hello, love. What a pleasant surprise!" Mother says as he enters.
"Hello Mother," he says and then nods towards his father, "Father,"
"Actually I'm in a bit of a hurry right now. I wanted the Malfoy signet ring." Draco says, getting to the point quickly.
"But I can see you wearing yours, son." Father says.
"Yes I know. I'm- I'm proposing Harry tomorrow." He announces and he is confused by their identical expressions of surprise and then repressed mirth. He didn't except that.
"Is that so?" Father says as he tilts his head, "Very well then, I'll go get it." He leaves the room and Draco is left with his Mother.
"I'm so happy for you, my darling." She says as she comes closer and hugs him.
"Well, I hope he says yes, else..." Draco replies as he hugs her back.
"Oh I'm sure he won't." Father replies as he enters the room. That was surprisingly quick.
"Here you go, son. I'm sure Harry would be quite delighted." He hands Draco the ring and engulfs him in a rare hug as well. Draco can't believe it, his parents approve. Not that he didn't know that, but it's different to know that so explicitly.
"Thank you. I need to get going now. Goodbye." Draco says, his parents murmur their byes and he apparates directly to Grimmauld Place.
Harry's yet to be home, so he decides to hide his ring and take a long bath.
Tomorrow is going to be perfect!
@cupofsquirrelfan hope you like this!

The Tablet
For dear @clare-with-no-i on her birthday!
I'm always vaguely working on some massively long marauder series for the last three years at Hogwarts but have never come close to finishing it.
Sharing a chapter from the never to be published work that takes place in the summer before Fifth Year. It features some of the architecture and floral and fauna of the beloved Potter House head canon we share, and it's about friendship, so I thought it appropriate for your bday!
Enjoy and happy happy day!
Rating: Probably PG-13 for language and subject matter
The Tablet
“James Potter, you are a bloody idiot,” muttered the boy to himself as he nervously ran his fingers through his unruly mop of black hair.
Standing in a dense oak woodland, James Potter clambered over a few jagged rocks and felled trees to reach his abandoned broomstick that lay near the riverbed of a spluttering stream. He gingerly picked up the gleaming broom handle and gently turned it over in his hands, examining it for any signs of damage. It was his brand new Nimbus 1500, a congratulatory gift from his father for being named captain of his house quidditch team. His brand new broomstick that he just ploughed into the thick old tree trunk.
The accident wasn’t his fault really. James thought back to all the times he whizzed through the forest without incident. His family’s house was situated on the edge of an ancient forest. Since he was a boy, James would run time trials through the trees. First, he’d set the course by hanging scarves over various branches on a winding path. Then, he’d slalom through the trees, retrieving the scarves as quickly as he could manage, each run through an opportunity to shave seconds off his best times.
If I hadn’t been distracted, he thought grimly. James knew that was neither fair nor accurate. He’d flown distracted dozens of times. In fact, he often flew specifically because he was distracted or upset. He knew the speed and the wind and the sky would chip away at his burdened mind until there was nothing left. Just him and pure flight. Still, a niggling memory bounced at the back of his mind, commandeering his thoughts and frustrating him endlessly.
The morning before, James awoke to a dry, high pitch scratching noise: the sound of a writing on a chalkboard. He knew immediately where the sound was coming from. He popped out of bed and stumbled over to his desk. He grabbed a small black slate rectangle upon which white words were appearing in a familiar script. The tablets had been his friend Peter’s idea. A way for James and his four best friends to communicate instantaneously, even when not together. The boys took four pieces of slate and charmed them so that what was written on one would appear on them all. The boys made a pact not to erase til all four of them had initialed the message, indicating it was received (exceptions, of course, were to be made when a slate was at risk of falling into the hands of a parent or a teacher).
Good sirs! Better bring that bottle of Ogden’s next week. I. Am. Now. A. Man. - SB
James knew immediately what his best mate, Sirius Black, meant by that. In their third year, when girls stopped being just slightly better smelling classmates and started becoming the most alluring, terrifying, and confounding creatures imaginable, James and his mates made a pact. If one of the boys ever plucked up the courage to talk to one of the girls, and in talking so persuaded said creature to snog, and in snogging so persuaded said creature to shag, then the other three boys were obliged to chip in and buy a bottle of Ogden’s Old Firewhiskey for the conquering hero.
Well then, James thought numbly, laying the slate back on his desk, there’s that.
As he thought back to that moment, James couldn’t account for why he hadn’t whooped with joy for his friend. Nor could he account for the sickening twisting feeling that had been growing in his chest over the last day.
James kicked a small rock, sending it careening into the stream where it landed with a satisfying plonk.
Of course Sirius would be the first. He was the oldest, even if only by five months. He also always seemed to be the one breaking new territory in their little group. Sirius was the first to get told off by McGonagall. He was also the first to discover how to get into the Hogwarts kitchens.
Now that James’s mind was on the topic of kitchens, he thought of the pasties Figgy was baking when he’d left that morning. They’d be golden and flaky now. Perhaps it was just hunger twisting his guts. With his broom over his shoulder, he turned to climb back towards home.
But Sirius isn’t always the first in everything, a bitter voice piped in from the back of James’s mind, ploughing over his theory that he was just hungry and not actually upset.
I’m not upset.
Still, James couldn’t help but search through his memory to recall times that he’d been the first to achieve a milestone. There was the first time he got detention...only Sirius had been there as well. James had been the first to be asked to Hogsmeade by a girl. Though even then, James wasn’t clear on whether that point would go to him or Sirius. It had been a very confusing affair. Elspeth Fitzgerald, one of the most popular girls in their year, asked James out, and then asked if Sirius would take out her friend Tamsin, too. Or maybe Elspeth was asking James to ask Sirius to ask Tamsin out, and James came along as the bonus date. He couldn’t be sure. Girls were confusing like that. Either way, James was definitely the first one to properly snog a girl. He remembers that clearly, because as Elspeth was shoving her tongue down his throat, Sirius was trying to get Tamsin to stop crying her bloody head off.
Of course, James conceded, his one time snogging session was not exactly the model of success. Sirius at least had a few follow up dates with Tamsin, and there were rumors all last year that they’d still occasionally snog. Elspeth and James produced about as much heat as a Chinese Fireball with a sore throat.
You were the first to make a house quidditch team, a defiant voice added.
That was right. James was the first, not just his friends, but of his whole bloody year to make a house Quidditch team. He made reserves for Gryffindor his second year and was a proper Chaser in his third. This year was supposed to be his biggest triumph yet. When his school list arrived earlier in the summer, James was honestly surprised to see the gold captain’s badge tumble out of the envelope. Quidditch captain! James could not think of a time when a fifth year had made captain. Even his father had never heard of it. And the Gryffindor team was an older team. There were several sixth and seventh year players who would have been just as deserving, maybe even more, but McGongall chose James.
He hadn’t even mentioned it to his friends yet. He reasoned that, surely, his good friend Moony would also be named prefect that summer. Moony never really got his fair amount of time in the spotlight, given how brilliant he was, so James was happy to sit on his own news until closer to school. He was planning on telling his friends this next week, when the three of them joined James and his father for their annual end-of-summer camping trip on the moors. Sirius’s latest news totally derailed that plan. With topics like shagging on offer, no one would want to talk about silly old Quidditch.
Is that why it bothers me? Because Sirius is going to be the center of attention? James asked himself, feeling a bit unsettled. He finally reached the edge of the woods, pausing to look out onto the grassy clearing that led up to his home. James stood there and tried to probe his own mind, his own feelings. Yes, he liked attention, but what fifteen year old boy didn’t? Did he like it enough to begrudge his friends their own turns in the sun?
Absolutely not, rebutted a vehement voice inside his head.
He was just thinking about how he’d given Moony the whole summer to enjoy the attention of being a newly minted prefect. And Sirius? James and Sirius were even better friends, brothers even. James didn’t resent Sirius because he’d gotten laid. That was ridiculous.
So why does it bother you?
James thought that over as he looked out on vista stretching out from his family’s land. In the distance, exposed rocks jutted out from the valley’s cresting hillside. A great pile of boulders on the farthest tor gleamed rosy pink as the sun sat low on the horizon. He really was fine with the fact that Sirius had been the first to lose his virginity. It was better really, James argued, that way Sirius could tell James what he had learned, and then James would have a better shot of not mucking things up his own first time. Though James supposed for that to happen, he would actually have to sit down with Sirius and talk about it. It wasn’t the sort of thing that could be explained in a letter.
Or on a slate, a nasty voice snorted.
As James turned as made his was towards the house, he was suddenly furious with that stupid little slate. As if all his friends needed all the same information at the exact same time. It was a ridiculous thought to have made them. Probably just Peter’s attempt to feel more included…
Stop that right now, James Potter, he chided himself.
This wasn’t about Peter (and his Gemino charm really was inspired). It wasn’t Pete’s fault James was feeling this way. It wasn’t even Sirius’s fault, James reasoned. Neither of them were responsible for his feelings. It was his own stupid feelings. They were just being unreasonable and running amok and making James feel ridiculous and hurt because Sirius didn’t tell James first.
There it is, James thought, as a bit of tension slowly eased in his chest. He was upset because Sirius didn’t write to him specifically. James and Sirius were not better than their friends, but they were better friends. For all their bravado and performed nonchalance, there was a level of honesty that James and Sirius shared, a closeness. And Sirius let James find out this really big news alongside everyone else, like he was just anyone else. That action did not feel particularly brotherly.
That still left the matter of James feeling ridiculous. He knew, logically, that Sirius progressing did not mean that James was regressing, but it still felt that way. As if Sirius’s new maturity made James by comparison more juvenile. James tried to reassure himself that Peter and Remus would be in the same boat, but even as that thought crossed his mind he questioned its veracity. Though, at the end of last term, Peter had developed a rather determined fixation on breasts. Size, shape, who had them, who didn’t, whose were the best in their year, whose were the best in Britain: Peter had an opinion about all of it. James thought he was taking things a little far, but maybe he’d just reached a maturity point that James had not. And while Remus did not talk about girls or snogging the same way the other lads in their year did but maybe that was a sign also a sign of maturity -- a sign he was even more mature than Peter’s mature. Kingsley Shacklebolt, a seventh year Gryffindor James thought was a cert for the captain’s badge, never prattled on about all the girls he dated. And he’d dated a lot. James worried that he might have been the only boy at school who spent more of the summer thinking about Quidditch than sex.
When James reached the house, he pushed the heavy wood front door open and walked through. The great hall of Hartscombe Hall featured dark wood-paneling that stretched three-quarters of the way up the grey stone walls studded with mullioned windows. There was a fireplace large enough that James could still stand comfortable inside it that stood facing a long wood table.
James stopped short. What his family's great hall did not usually feature was another attractive and black-haired teenage boy sitting at the end of said table. The very same black-haired teenage boy whose actions had sent James’s mind on a discontented tailspin.
“Sirius?” James inquired, as though there was a possibility his eyes were making a fool of him, too.
Sirius smiled warmly, jumping up from the table and throwing his arms around James.. He brushed the long fringe of his sleek black hair from his face and tucked it behind his ear. Sirius wore torn up denim trousers with silver pins running through the sides and a stiff leather jacket. James did not doubt that this was some new and absurd muggle fashion fad.
“Sorry for the surprise. I know you weren’t expecting me until tomorrow.”
“Mum and dad will be thrilled to see you, of course.” James said, as he released his friend from the warm embrace, feeling even sillier than he had before. “I’m chuffed too, of course, I mean obviously, but why are you here early?”
Sirius’s mood immediately darkened. “Too much Black family bonding.”
Sirius pulled out his wand and flicked it towards the massive steamer trunk he had brought. Evidently, he was all set to leave for Hogwarts directly from their camping trip. James took the cue, slinging his broom over his shoulder and motioning for Sirius to follow him up the front stairs.
“Was it worse than at Easter?” James asked, referring to the epic row Sirius had with his parents over his choice of friends earlier that year.
“Much,” Sirius said as he clomped up the stairs in his great black boots. “One of my idiot cousins is getting married, and Walburga let their whole family use Grimmauld Place as their London pied-a-terre. Apparently you can’t buy dresses in the country or some such nonsense! Parties and teas and a hen-do. It was a nightmare.”
After dropping off Sirius luggage in his designated guest room on the first floor, the boys continued on to James’s room with Sirius. Before Hogwarts, James’s room was on the first floor as well. A sprawling nursery that had its own playroom and connected to his nanny’s accommodations. Being older now, he’d moved himself up to the spacious second floor which had never been used by the main tenants. James loved the unpolished look of it. His bedroom, a converter storeroom, stretched along the end of the west wing. Old raw wood planks jutted out of the white plaster walls and arched up to meet along a central beam in the middle. James thought of it as the house’s ribcage, it’s structure laid bare.
The design scheme, if it could be so generously called, of James’s room was mercurial. The walls were covered, predictably, with banners in the bright Gryffindor colors and drab Puddlemere brown, as well as a moving poster of all the Quidditch players of the last quarter century that James admired. He pilfered his favorite things from other guest rooms in the house to create a chaotic melange of furniture. He had a massive mahogany four poster bed that required a shrinking charm to get through the doorway. To this he added long bookshelves, a heavy armoire, mismatched couches, a dart board, and even a muggle table-football table. Of all these things, James was proudest of his desk. He assembled it himself by plopping an old barn door on top of empty whiskey casks. They still filled his room with the comforting smell of peat.
Sirius walked towards said desk still nattering on about the absurdity of wedding textiles. “Honestly,” he whinged, “I didn’t even know there were different kinds of lace. Since when do fabrics have sub-fabrics.”
“It’s completely ludicrous,” James agreed. “Hopefully, this week will make up for it. Just the lads, walking all day and sitting by a fire all night, I can almost guarantee no one will be talking about textiles.”
“You saw it,” Sirius said flatly.
“What?” James started, confused by the non sequitur. He turned to see Sirius looking down at the desk. Not at the desk, at what was on the desk. James had left his slate tablet out.
“Er-- yeah,” James said in a hearty voice not wholly his own, “Congratulations, or you know, good on you!”
Sirius laughed just once. It was a hollow, quiet sound. Time droned on and the distance between the two boys stretched with it. Sirius traced his hands across the edge of the tablet as he stared out the window over the desk. In addition to Sirius’s initial pronouncement, the tablet now included a loopy scrawl from Peter asking for more details, and in his untidy scratch Moony inscrutably asked, on behalf of a Mr. Kipling, whether Sirius had indeed run a full sixty seconds worth of distance. James felt unsettled. He knew he needed to say something to end this quiet but conjuring any actual words felt beyond his current abilities.
“D’ya mind?” Sirius asked without turning to look at James. He just held a gold pack of rolled muggle cigarettes above his shoulder.
“Go for it.”
Sirius leaned forward to open the window. James heard the familiar clack and swoosh of a lighter. As Sirius exhaled, James watched his shoulders slump forward, as if the expelled smoke had taken all of Sirius’s swagger with it.
“So, who was the girl?” James asked, breaking the silence. “You didn’t mention dating anyone in your last letter.”
“Well,” Sirius said as he turned, softening his stance and leaning back on the desk. “That could be because I don’t know if we were dating, not really…”
“How’d you meet? Is she a friend of your cousins?”
“Merlin, no!” Sirius sneered. “Though I suppose, I have them to thank for meeting her. Like I said, summer was a misery. Bella and Narcissa practically moved in. And Bella’s completely lost the plot. She’s marrying a Lestrange, but you’d never know it. All she talks about is Voldemort and how he’s bringing pride back to Britain. It’s fucking disgusting. I spent as much time as I could out of the house.”
“You said you were riding alone most days on the Get-A-Round…” James said, quoting from one of Sirius’s early letters.
“The Underground,” Sirius corrected.
James shrugged. He wasn’t taking Muggle Studies, so he’d really never need to know the name of the mad contraption that transports people underneath the streets. Merlin knows he'd never ride on it.
“Anyway,” Sirius continued, “I was riding around a lot at the start, but there’s only so many times you can go around the Circle line. Tried hanging around Diagon Alley for a bit, but it was just more of the same. I ended up just exploring. Few weeks ago, I was wandering around Chelsea. I stumbled into this clothing store on the King’s Road and that’s where I met Cyan--”
“Cyan?!” James interrupted.
“Well, it’s Sarah, really. But she dyed the ends of her hair blue, and she was trying to get everyone to call her Cyan.”
“Fair enough,” James said, “I guess, wizards aren’t really in a position to judge someone’s name. We have some pretty weird ones...”
“Hengeist,” Sirius
“Adalbert.”
“Sawbridge.”
“Wilburforce.” James looked at Sirius to discover they were both, finally, smiling at the same time.
“Well, anyway, I just started going to King’s Road on the days she worked. We’d chat and then meet up after her shift ended. Usually just for coffee, but then, well a couple days ago she invited me over to hers to listen to a new record… and well. You already know how that went.”
James did know, and he nodded sagely at the tablet. For all of James’s mental griping over that stupid note and the frustration it caused, he couldn’t help but be intensely curious about the whole affair. Did she just proposition him out of the blue? Or, were there steps leading up to it? Did he bring wine and candles? James heard a rumor that girls liked for there to be candles.
“You know, I don’t really know why I did this.” Sirius said, tapping the slate tablet quickly with the cherry tip of his cigarette. “I guess... the whole affair just felt like it needed a cap off, you know? A full stop. An exclamation point. Some sort of definite conclusion.”
“Hmm,” James mused, not entirely sure of Sirius’s meaning. “I mean. Did it not… did you not… erm… conclude?”
“That’s not….” Sirius started. He held the cigarette gently between his teeth as he stretched both his arms, clasping them behind his back and puffing out his chest. “It’s like yes. You have sex. And sex on one hand is just sex. Just a physical thing, mechanical even. And I know that. Logically, unemotionally, I know that’s true. I guess I just thought, with the way people go on about it… I guess I just thought there’d be something… more.”
“More than sex?”
“More than just the physical bits...yeah,” Sirius leaned over James’s desk and stretched his arm out the window, tapping the ash off the cigarette. “I just expected to feel something more afterwards. But I was just tired… and slightly sticky.”
James shifted awkwardly from one foot to another. He did not know how to answer Sirius as he had no analogous experiences to share. He supposed that, he too, approached the idea of sex at different levels. There was the fantastical element that he would often indulge in before falling asleep at night. In that realm, there was nothing to fear. Then there was the practicality of it. The fact that he didn’t actually know what to do or how to make it okay for the girl. That was terrifying. When he thought of a hypothetical first time it was just as something to get done.
“You could say something,” Sirius muttered.
“I guess, I just don’t know what to say,” James said honestly.
Sirius turned away to stare out the window again.
“I think that’s why I wrote to you all. There was this big thing that happened, and then I just went home and everything was still as it was. So banal. I sat next to Reg at the dinner table and ate mushy peas. It was like it didn’t even happen.” Sirius got very quiet and looked away from James. In a small voice he said, “Does that make me sound like a nancy?”
“What?” James asked. Until that moment, it really had not occurred to him that Sirius would be feeling anything other than elated and slightly smug. Looking at his best friend now, shoulders slumped, hair falling in his face, and staring determinedly at the tip of the cigarette as if making eye contact with anything else would physically hurt, it was clear Sirius was feeling anything but.
“Mate, no!,” James assured him. “Not at all. It’s supposed to be a very big deal. If it weren’t, we all wouldn’t go around talking about it all the time. And, like, look at what Pete and Remus wrote… okay not so much Remus, but he never makes sense anyway. You know Pete lost his mind over it. You know he won't rest until you give him a moment by moment account and draw him a topographical map of her tits.”
Sirius chuckled, and finally brought his eyes up to meet James’s. “‘S’pose we will all have to deal with that. Pete may be the first student to pursue ‘History of Breasts’ at the NEWT level.”
“He’s a trailblazer.”
“Icon.”
“Legend, really.” James laughed and sidled over next to Sirius, perching up on the text beside him. “Feeling better, then?”
“A bit, thanks. Just wish you’d been there--”
James’s eyebrows jumped halfway up his forehead.
“No! Not, there there,” Sirius explained with a chuckle. “Just afterwards, back at the house. I just never thought I’d go out, shag someone for the first time, then come home at three in the afternoon to see my cousins playing dress-up in the living room. It was too bizarre.”
“I ‘spect all the really big events in life are like that. Stranger and way more awkward than you imagined. We’re all just stumbling our way through life.”
Sirius pulled a face of mock shock and clutched at his chest. “What? No! Not even the great James Potter!?”
“Especially the great James Potter,” James insisted, throwing an elbow at Sirius’s ribs for good measure. “You missed a spectacular faceplant this morning after I ran into a hoar oak on my new racing broom. KAPOW- and the SPLAT! Broom went one way, I went the other…”
“Yeah, well, you’re too pretty anyway. Would do your face some good to bang it up. Let’s see this new broom!”
Sirius tossed the remnants of his cigarette out the window and walked towards the broom lying on James’s bed. He picked it up by its glistening handle, flipping it on end to observe the finely trimmed twigs in the tail.
“Pheeeeew,” Sirius whistled low. “That! Is a damn fine broom, my good man. What’d you do? Manage to intercept all of Minnie’s letters home last year or did you catch Monty snogging Figgy.”
“Gross, Sirius!” James laughed, “Neither. Actually--”
James scurried over to the nightstand next to his best and retrieved his captain’s badge from the uppermost drawer. He was so excited to finally show it to someone other than Figgy and his parents, he could not even find the words. Rather, he simply thrust the golden badge engraved with a large “C” into his best friend's hands.
It took Sirius a moment, though no more than a moment to realize what he was looking at. Joy overtook his whole expression, as his eyes shone and he smiled brightly.
“YES!” Sirius roared, raising a fist in the arm. “WE’VE DONE IT! Sweet Merlin! YES!”
He grabbed James and pulled him into another hug, patting him on the back for good measure. James’s heart leapt in his chest at seeing his friend's joy.
Sirius was laughing as he stood back and examined the badge closely.
“It’s not a fake,” James said, “Letter had my name on it and everything.”
“That’s not what I’m-- do you see this? What does that says?” Sirius asked, holding the badge up to James face.
James squinted through his glasses. He did not see anything in the area Sirius was indicated. Only a brightly polished, immaculate gold surface.
“It doesn’t say anything there, mate.”
“Yes it does,” Sirius insisted. “Right there. It says ‘I’m better than Shacklebolt”
James shoved Sirius playfully, but Sirius just held the badge higher as he insisted that his best friend would be the best Quidditch Captain Hogwarts had ever seen. From James’s heart burst forth a wellspring of gratitude and joy. Being an idiot wasn’t so bad, he thought, as long as your friends were idiots, too.

Part 1: 5 times I fixed it...
When Remus arrived home the flat was empty. Sirius’s boots were missing from their spot by the door. Sighing, he ambled to the kitchen. He had been away for three weeks. Now that they had finally repaired their relationship, all he had wanted to do was cuddle up with Sirius on the couch and watch muggle television. Apparently, this would not be happening today.
In the kitchen he found a note from Sirius, left next to a magically warmed cup of tea.
Last minute mission, won’t be back before you. Tell you all about it when I’m back. Love you
The last few words were squished in the corner of the small piece of paper. Remus smiled at Sirius’s handwriting, the pureblood cursive he had tried and failed to get rid of back in school.
He grabbed his cup of tea and moved to the living room. Wrapping himself in a blanket, he tried to imagine Sirius was there with him, asking how everything had gone with the werewolves.
Despite Dumbledore’s explicit orders, he had told Sirius about his spying missions. Six months of losing trust in each other after a spy was discovered in the order had almost destroyed their relationship. It had taken him a long time, but eventually he told him in the middle of a fight, two days before he had left for another three weeks.
The fire sparked a bright green, drawing Remus from his thoughts.
“Pads…” he started, before noticing that it was not his boyfriend, but the Potters.
Lily, normally quite pale, was whiter than usual and James’s dark skin was ashen. He quickly ushered them over to the sofa and made them each their own cup of tea before joining them.
“Moony,” James said hoarsely. “Where’s Padfoot? We need to ask him a favour.”
“He’s on a mission, didn’t say when he’d be back. What’s wrong?”
Lily looked up from her tea. She had tear tracks down her cheeks.
“Voldemort… He’s… he wants to…”
She took a deep breath before starting again.
“We have to go into hiding,” she whispered.
“There’s some sort of prophecy,” James continued. “Voldemort thinks… he’s going to try kill Harry.”
Remus couldn’t breathe for a moment. Harry Potter was only a month old. He was likely back at the Potter Manor with Effie and Monty, blissfully unaware of his parents’ worries. Everyone in the Order had been delighted when he and Neville had been born, the first bright spots in the war since the Potters’ wedding.
“What does this have to do with Sirius?” he asked eventually.
“Dumbledore suggested we use the Fidelius Charm,” James explained. “We want him to be our Secret Keeper. He’s my brother, there’s no one I trust more.”
“We know he’ll protect us,” Lily said, pulling James’s hand into her lap. “He’d do anything for Harry.
Remus felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice water on him. Sirius protecting the Potters would make him a target for Voldemort himself. He’d have to hide too and even then; he may not be safe.
“He’d die for you,” he said quietly. “Pick someone else.”
When he looked at the Potters again, his vision was blurry. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to stop himself from crying.
“What?”
“Moony…”
“He’ll jump at the chance,” he continued. “But everyone will know it’s him. He’ll be a target, Prongs.”
James reached froward and grabbed Remus’s hand.
“He’s the only one we can trust to protect us,” he said quietly, like he was comforting a child.
“And who the fuck is going to protect him?” Remus yelled, standing up. “What’s the plan for when they come after him? When they torture him for your location? What’s the plan?”
No one responded. Remus left the room. He started to make himself more tea. He heard the Potters muttering between them before he heard the door opening, and James run to Sirius to explain the situation. No one came to get him.
When he returned to the living room, Sirius immediately pulled him into his lap and wrapped his arms around him.
“I’m okay, Moons,” he whispered gently. “I’ll be okay.”
“We may have a solution,” Lily said after a few moments of silence.
Remus looked at her but didn’t say anything. She exchanged a look with James before continuing.
“We need to put this flat under the Fidelius as well,” she said. “Then we can hide, and so can Sirius.”
“I’ll be the Secret Keeper,” James continued. “That way none of us can be found without finding the others first.”
“We’ll all be okay, Moony,” Sirius whispered to him. “You can stay here with me, and we’ll all be safe.”
Remus couldn’t speak, but he nodded his consent and kissed Sirius’s forehead. He wasn’t making progress with the werewolves anyway. He would leave the Order if he had to. This was more important.
One week later, they cast the charms and the four went into hiding.
Over a year later, Voldemort was defeated in a historic battle, preceded by Regulus Black’s destruction of his horcruxes. The Potters celebrated in Godric’s Hollow with their baby. In London, Sirius started crying when they received the owl.
“We’re safe, love,” Remus whispered, holding him tightly in his arms.

If Only I Had Stayed in The Shadows - Prologue
James Potter x OC
Words: 3,7k
Cecily Grant. At your service. Ordinary Sixth Year Gryffindor, Chaser of the Quidditch team and mediocre witch. Dreams of becoming the number one Healer anyone has ever seen (at least my parents think that's my dream) and having my first kiss before I bloody graduate. Don't I sound absolutely charming? Special? Note-worthy?
No. And apparently the rest of the school agrees since I hardly get acknowledged by anyone outside of class...or year. We're a big school, of course no one knows everyone. But at least within one year...
"OI, are you daydreaming again?" Marlene flicked my forehead. Oh well, I guess some did notice me.
"It's not called daydreaming when I'm just trying to ignore your traditional boy rant in the morning," I teased, picking the sweet back up to munch on it.
Marlene scoffed, "At least, I have boys to rant about." She flipped me off when I pressed my hand against my heart with an inaudible 'ouch', causing her to giggle.
Yeah, I shouldn't be complaining about my life. I have an established friendship group, my grades are good enough to satisfy my parents and Hogwarts was an amazing school in general. Plus, I even had a hobby. Quidditch. Hah, take that.
Nonetheless, the routine that my life had become was pretty boring, depressing even if I were to look at my boy's department. Or rather, lack of. I know I shouldn't identify myself through the boyfriends I had or had not, because I'm more than that (female empowerment, y'all!) but as a sixteen year old you are simply not able to resist the urge to want a male in your life and experience all that romantic ish. Especially when you see all your friends developing crushes. Not that I had never not developed a crush. I currently had more than one crush to be honest. But their crushes were actually two-sided and resulted in dates and relationships…well, Marlene's did at least. If Lily would only get as far as a second date until the bloke suddenly disappeared from Hogwarts (just kidding, they would just run away at first sight). Three guesses, whose fault that was.
Anyways, back to me because at least in my story I want to be the protagonist. My crushes were never reciprocated even if I thought so at the beginning (Marlene's fault mostly), so I was left as probably the only Sixth Year in Gryffindor's history to have never been in a romantic relationship. And mind you, I don't have big expectations. I can't really in my position. I'm no Lily Evans with her shiny red hair and bright, emerald green eyes and neither a Marlene McKinnon with her tanned skin, hazelnut brown hair- I'm getting off topic again, which is me.
I sighed. Not even in my thoughts I could keep the attention to myself, why would anyone else?
…
"She's not listening again," Marlene huffed, flicking my forehead.
After that inner-monologue at breakfast, I headed off to the first class this morning; History of Magic. I had a distinct feeling I would continue with that monologue in class. No wonder, I failed that class in my O.W.L's. Meh, whatever.
Since Lily and Marlene were closer friends than any of them with me, it was natural for them to sit together in every class, which caused me to slip into any free seat next to someone I usually never talk to. Joy.
To my surprise, I saw a vacant seat next to Remus Lupin, who was still standing and taking his stuff out whilst his two friends Sirius Black and James Potter took over the seats behind them. Ah, now the infamous Marauders. Minus one that is mysteriously missing right now. But nonetheless, no one would dare split the four apart, knowing they are always together and always partnering in each class-
"Hey Remus," I greeted the sandy-haired boy cheerfully, plopping on the seat next to him. I wasn't a Gryffindor for nothing. Remus gave me a surprised smile, seemingly not minding and I was sure as hell not going to ask. At least, he wasn't a total stranger. I was proud to say that every Sixth Year knew every Sixth Year within their house at least. And since I was on the Gryffindor team, I was known to him solely because of James Potter and Sirius Black, who were both players as well, the former even having been named Captain this year.
"Hey Cecily, how you doing?" Remus asked politely, settling himself down. His skin looked paler than usual upon closer inspection and he looked positively exhausted. I took out a bar of chocolate I always kept in the pockets of my robes (for emergencies only, of course!) and offered him some. "Good, and you?" I asked as he gratefully accepted without question. He was used to me randomly offering him some. "Fine, had a bit of a restless night, but should be better tomorrow," he said quietly, which went mostly unheard when one rowdy Sirius hollered from back, "Oi, aren't you gonna offer some to us as well?"
I glanced backwards at the two notorious troublemakers. "Um, no?" Sirius pouted and any ordinary girl would start to swoon at the sight. I'm ordinary, so I did. But years of practice taught me to only do it internally. And the amount of times I caught him with his tongue down another girl's throat was enough disgust to keep myself sane whilst resting my eyes on his unnatural beauty. I ain't kidding, really. He was handsome in ways that sometimes made me question whether he was a male-Veela. Those surely existed. Perfectly groomed, thick black hair, striking grey eyes, an annoyingly perfect nose and a jaw line that could cut someone in half. I am ashamed to admit there was a time where I would have gladly let him stomp on me if that would have made him acknowledge me.
I mean, come on, who hadn't had a crush on him, male and female? I was convinced, James did and was just trying to cover it with his constant profession of love towards one Lily Evans. I shall explain in a minute but let's first get through my most important description of the next Marauder, who was unfortunately now my Captain.
Unfortunate, because he already had been a nightmare in the last two years I had been on the team, constantly taking over the leader spot from the actual Captain to order us around, demanding more laps, longer practice hours until we were all bruised and frustrated enough to attempt a mutiny even though he wasn't even on charge. Imagine, how he was going to be now with the actual permission to order us around? I still have nightmares.
Besides that, he was probably also the leader of the little Marauder gang, a dumb name for their tight-knit group of friends. I couldn't deny though I was a bit envious of their friendship and I could imagine many others were, too.
Didn't change the fact that their gang name sounded stupid. Now, why I think James Potter is secretly crushing on his best mate (like every sane person would); I could hardly take his 'undying' love for Lily seriously, mainly because he had such ridiculous ways of professing his love for her that I doubted he was serious about it…or sirius. Heh. Anyways, he would probably be more believable if he weren't always so damn public about his declarations. That was also probably the reason why Lily was able to reject him all this time and call him an arrogant toe-rag in all her hateful rants. It didn't seem like she believed him.
Otherwise it would be hard to resist him for years. I mean, he was handsome, smart if he wanted to be and a pretty good Quidditch player. The whole package, really.
Merlin, I sounded like I had a crush on him, too. BUT. To be honest, everyone would have a crush on him as well as Sirius if he wasn't so 'devoted'.
I mentally slapped myself. At this rate, I would crush on Frank Longbottom's toad. "I seriously need a boyfriend," I muttered to myself.
"Hm, what was that?" Remus asked amused, chuckling quietly. Just then did I hear the complaints of the boys behind me.
"Are we air?"
"You siriusly going to ignore your Captain? That's ten extra laps this Thursday, Grant!"
I just remembered why I could keep my crushes under control. At least when it came to these two.
"Nothing," I muttered to Remus before turning over, raising an eyebrow at them, "What do you want?"
"Respect."
"Chocolate."
"Sorry, I have neither for you two," I said with a shrug, turning back over whilst they spluttered. It was easy handling them after years of practice together. Besides these interactions at class and on the Quidditch field, we had no other kind of connection, which was good for my heart.
But well, that would change quickly.
"Why is Remus always getting chocolate and we don't?" Sirius complained after class as I packed up the rest of the bar along with other stuff (such as the piece of parchment and quill I didn't use at all for this lesson). Rolling my eyes, I offered him some. "No, I don't want it anymore."
"Jeez, like a kid," I said loudly, "And for the record, I do it because Remus gives me his notes. Doesn't he?" I directed the question towards my seat partner with the most innocent smile. Remus Lupin with the gentle chuckle. He would probably be a heartthrob as well if it weren't for his quiet and introverted nature. In fact, all of the Marauders could be heartthrobs. Except Peter Pettigrew. Who was part of the gang for some reason. 'But even he is in a relationship right now,' I thought miserably, 'Probably off snogging his girlfriend and skipping class..'
"Of course I do," Remus answered, charming his notes to double and handing me the copy.
"Thanks, Remus!" I said cheerily, stuffing the notes into my bag before swinging it over and trudging past the protesting boys, "Hey, why don't we ever get your notes?!"
I ran to catch up with Marlene and Lily, who were already on their way to Herbology. "Hey girls, wait up!" They startled into a stop, "Oh, right. Sorry Cecily, we should have waited for you," Lily said sweetly and I grimaced. I was probably the Peter Pettigrew in our little friendship group.
Not that I could blame them. Lily and Marlene were both popular, extraordinary beauties and smart on top. I was the boring, ordinary looking and mediocre Peter that had nothing special to her name.
But that would change.
The days passed in a blur of classes, gossip and studying. The usual boring tirade, really. The only thing I looked forward to was food. And Quidditch.
So, imagine my elation when Thursday came up…and the sour mood I got in when James actually demanded those extra ten laps, apparently being good at holding a grudge. "Keep it up, Chaser No. 2!"
"Honestly, Potter," I huffed, coming to a stand in front of him, the only one still on the ground besides him as everyone was already up on their brooms.
"It's Captain, Chaser No. 2."
"Seriously? Chaser No. 2?"
"Well, there are three Chasers. I have to tell them apart."
"You have to tell them apart?" I snorted, "Potter, you know every player's name, family background, favourite team and player."
"True, and the Montrose Magpies still suck."
"They don't!"
"They do!"
"Still better than the Chudley Cannons!"
"Take that back!"
"Nope."
"Ten more laps."
I snorted again, mounting my broom. "As if."
"Grant, you get back down here this instant!"
"Who the hell is Grant? I'm Chaser No. 2," I yelled back, causing Sirius to bark a laugh as he heard. We started simulating a game with Team A against Team B for a while before mixing the players together. I rolled my eyes as Archie Stan knocked his shoulder against mine more roughly than necessary in an attempt to loosen my grip on the Quaffle. I wasn't born yesterday though, my grip tighter on the ball than a package of almond biscuits.
"Good, Chaser No. 2!" James shouted as I threw the Quaffle through the loop, whooping exaggerately, "Wooo -oof!" I clutched my broomstick to regain my balance as Stan knocked against me from behind this time, the air leaving my lungs for a second at the unexpected hit. "Watch it, Sideline-Chaser No. 3!"
"Not cool, bro!" Sirius and Frank booed, causing the Seventh Year boy to roll his eyes.
"Alright, everyone. Good game today," James called out, wrapping up the practice. We all cheered in relief, flying towards the ground to stretch and loosen up. "Don't act like you didn't enjoy it!" Our captain stated cheekily, grinning broadly now that he left the Captain mode behind. The others grumbled under their breaths as we all made our way to the locker rooms. I rubbed my sore shoulder, the rough handling having left a bit of a mark. "You alright there, Grant?" James asked as I passed him by.
"Yeah, just sore."
"Stan is an idiot," James commented, looking after the boy in question, "He is still bitter about how you took over his spot on the A team."
"His fault that he sucks," I muttered, causing the messy-haired boy to chuckle. "He doesn't suck. You are just better than him."
"Wow, can't believe I'm hearing a compliment from the Captain that only knows how to motivate us with insults."
He winked, catching me off guard, "Don't get used to it." I stared for a second at his smirk, wondering how he could pull that off without seeming arrogant like Sirius. Maybe it had to do with his unruly hair that gave him somewhat of a boyish, innocent look or maybe the warmth in his almond eyes that would turn into pure amber if the sun hit him in the face…
'I'm thinking way too much about this,' I thought, shaking myself out of it with a mental slap.
"Evans!" he suddenly called out, causing me to flinch in surprise. His entire expression brightened tenfold as he spotted the red-head over my shoulder. I turned to see her trudging over along with Marlene and Alice Prewett, who was probably the sole reason why they were here in the first place as she always wanted to cheer for her boyfriend. "Glad to see you are here to support the Gryffindor team! Or did you just come to watch me in my natural element?"
"Neither, Potter. Quidditch is useless," Lily commented harshly, and I winced slightly at the sharp tone she had solely reserved for him, watching how James' ego deflated along with his puffed-out chest.
"Touché," he chuckled, almost choking on the word and I could practically see his inner battle between agreeing with the love of his life and defending his love for the game.
"Excuse me, Quidditch isn't useless!" I protested indignantly. Lily just rolled her eyes good-naturedly as she walked past us with the other girls, who simply gave me small smiles in passing. I huffed. I really needed friends that supported this game.
"One day…," James sighed blissfully, staring after them, "One day she will admit her love for me and we will be together forever."
I shifted slightly, "Yeaaahhhh."
He frowned, straightening up to his full height, "You don't think so?"
Lie. Lie. Say everything else but what you really think, "I think you are in love with Sirius and trying to cover it up."
I TOLD YOU TO-
"W-what?" James spluttered and I snapped my head over my shoulder, "Yep, I'm coming!" I called back to the owl that flew past us in that moment, swiftly turning to walk away, "Bye Potter!"
"Wait, hold up!" the dark-haired boy caught me by the hood of my uniform, successfully pulling me back and I grimaced, "What the bloody hell do you mean I'm in love with Padfoot?!"
"Who isn't?" the boy in question asked, coming up towards after the quickest shower ever. I facepalmed in embarrassment as he walked over, ruffling his still wet hair.
"I'm certainly not!" James exclaimed, shaking me slightly with his grip on my hood, "She thinks so!"
"Oh?" Sirius raised an eyebrow at me, smirking in amusement, "I thought you were talking about her being in love with me."
"You know you gonna catch a cold if you walk around with your hair wet in this weather," I pointed out, trying to change the subject. Not that I was actually in love with him but since I had a tiny crush and I was really bad at lying, I would probably blurt something out that would make them think I was.
"Don't change the subject. Why the hell do you think I'm in love with Padfoot?"
"Well, for one. You have a pet name for him," I pointed out.
"For Moony and Wormtail, too! And they call him that, too!"
"Maybe it's a group thing then," I said dismissively, trying to find a way out and finally hit the showers, crawl into my bed and die. The longest conversation with the two heartthrobs yet and it had to be about my thoughts on their relationships.
"It's not!" Both James and Sirius denied.
"Two negatives make one positive," I said with a grin.
"Well, I wouldn't hold it against any of the blokes if they were in love with me," Sirius stated, flipping his hair and placing a hand on James' shoulder, "You can tell me, I won't judge."
James shrugged him off, "Of course, I don't! I never did, I don't now and I'm never going to!" Then he paused, "You don't think anyone else thinks that?"
Sirius shrugged and shook his head simultaneously, "Why would they?"
"Yeah, why would they?" I agreed hastily, side-stepping discreetly in hopes of- "YOU think so? You tell me!" James demanded, blocking my way.
I sighed, "I was just kidding."
"You were not."
I frowned, "How do you know?"
James pinched his nose. "You don't think Evans thinks I'm in love with Padfoot, do you?"
Shrugging, I leaned against my broomstick with a sigh, realising that this would take longer than I would like to, "How would I know?"
"Because you are friends?"
"Yeah, but I don't always listen when they talk about boy stuff." Mainly because I didn't always want to feel the green eyed monster crawling up whenever they talked about their dates or relationships or even drama. I wish I had some drama to talk about.
"And why do you think I do?" James pressed.
I blinked. "Do what?"
"Love Padfoot!" James said loudly in exasperation, causing heads to turn as the other players slowly got out of the locker room, freshened up.
"Is that your way of matchmaking, James?" Frank called out teasingly, "Shouting at the victim to love your best mate?"
"Oi, what do you mean 'victim'?" Sirius shouted back as the others laughed around us. I went beet red.
"This conversation is over, Potter," I decided, side-stepping him swiftly to walk towards the locker rooms. The girls looked at me questioningly, but I just shook my head as I walked into the warm room, James hot on my heels.
"I'm serious, Grant. Why do you think I'm in love with Padfoot and not Evans? Does she think that? Is she doubting my love for her?" he fired one question after another as he followed me.
"Well, maybe," I replied to his last question as I placed broomstick against the wall next to the girls' changing rooms door, stopping with a hand on the handle, "I mean, it would explain why she hasn't agreed to go out with you after your countless times of asking her."
"How is asking someone out causing someone to doubt their love for them?" James asked incredulously as he proceeded to try and follow me inside the room.
"Off limits, Potter!" I said sternly with half a foot inside the room as he stood right in front of me.
"Captain here, Grant!" James retaliated, pushing me inside before half-closing the door to give me some privacy. I sighed, figuring that would be all I would get as I opened my locker. "Now, answer the question!"
"Well, maybe it's just the way you are handling your 'love' for her," I mused as I changed, knowing he wouldn't stop pestering me unless I satisfied his curiousity.
"What do you mean?"
"You are being overbearing about it. Obnoxious," I explained, grinning at his childish scoff, "I mean, I would have believed you at some point after all these years, but your affections seem kind of…superficial, given the fact that you never tried to actually get to know her."
"…How do you know all that? Did she tell you that?"
I blushed. "Y-yeah, probably." I was glad he couldn't see my red face from lying. It was still better than telling him that I was mindlessly obsessing over my friend's relationships and boy dramas since I had none myself. Sighing, I stuffed my Quidditch robes into my sack before throwing it over my shoulder and heading towards the door.
Unsurprisingly, James stood there still, an unusual thoughtful expression on his face. "So, you think I should get to know her more?"
"I think you should leave her alone."
"What? I can't-"
"I mean, everything you try at this point will be fruitless because Lily won't believe you like she hasn't all the years before," I explained patiently, "It would be smarter to just lean back and be civil for a while, give her space to breathe instead of giving her yet another reason to complain how much of an arrogant toe-rag you are."
James went quiet for a second and I wondered if I had imagined the slight flicker of hurt in his eyes at my words. "She really said that?" he asked softly and I mentally berated myself for throwing that in his face thoughtlessly.
"Maybe not with those words…," I tried to deny but he saw right through it, sighing heavily as he ran a hand through his air.
"…Be civil, eh?"
I nodded whilst simultaneously wondering how I had suddenly become a relationship counsellor for my Quidditch Captain. "Be civil."
Little did I know how this little conversation got the ball rolling towards the most unexpected direction.

Bruises on our Skin (Sirius x Reader)
Summary: Soulmate AU - Bruises and scars appear on your skin when your soulmate gets them. So why are you always covered in bruises in the summer holiday?
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: hints of abuse
You were glad that at least you didn’t share the pain of the bruises and scars that started to show on your collar bone. You didn’t know what problems your soulmate had but it seemed like it was a lot of them. When your soulmate gets a bruise or even a wound which will lead to a scar it will show on your skin also. Your Soulmate prevents yourself from showing a lot of skin, especially when it was too hot outside for the long sleeves you wore then.
In the first years it didn’t matter so much until everybody started pointing out the obvious and were asking you questions you didn’t have an answer for. Each summer the bruises became more and more. You weren’t sure if it worked this way but before you started your first year in Hogwarts you wrote on your forearm ‘are you okay?’, but you never got an answer. Maybe the ink had to be under your skin to show on your other half.
But when you were eleven you had other things to worry about: Finally starting your first year at Hogwarts! You couldn’t wait for all the cool things you could do with your wand and be able to spent so much time with other kids your age. You didn’t mind being an only child but you imagine it would be great to share some things with other kids.
When you were asked which house you wanted to be put in, by your parents or other family members, you just shrugged and told them it wouldn’t matter. You were sure you’d have a blast. When you were about to enter the Hogwarts Express you noticed a girl standing by herself so you decided to start making friends right this moment and asked her if she wanted to share the train ride with you.
She was almost as excited as you and told you that she was the only one of her family who showed signs of magic. She told you that she was befriended with Severus Snape and it didn’t took long for him to join you in the compartment. He was sure he’s be placed in Slytherin while you and the girl in front of you, Lily, were unsure.
You were glad you were placed in the same house as Lily. Gryffindor would be your new home.
“Weren’t you supposed to be in Slytherin?” you heard someone asking another new boy at the table.
“Got a problem?” the young boy replied not showing any fear.
“No,” the other one said and put a roll on his plate, took another and placed it on the plate of the boy he asked the question. You’d learn later that the two of them would start to annoy you and your classmates. They’d befriend the other boys next to them and would never back down from a fight.
When all the excitement about entering Hogwarts had ended, you confined in Lily about the marks of your soulmate. She was astonished as it wasn’t always the case to see the soulmate marks so soon. She herself hadn’t seen anything on her body and was eager to see yours.
While her friendship with Severus fell more and more apart yours grew stronger. You invited her over in the summer holidays when her sister became meaner and ignored her. You were happy to share your room with her and have pyjama parties for two weeks. So of course she saw the bruises that started to show as every summer. But this time there appeared also scars – nasty scars.
You came up with many theories how your Soulmate had gotten them. You even started a game of who came up with the most ridiculous story. You even joked if he was a werewolf when the bruises started to show every new moon. When you didn’t want to go swimming because of the many colours your skin showed Lily pointed to your watercolours and told you to paint them over.
“They are called watercolours for a reason. They would come up the second I’d enter the water,” you pointed out.
“So what? Are we witches or not? I think I have this powder with me. I use to throw it on my ink so it’ll stay on my paper when Potter decides to stroll into the room as if he owned it and didn’t notice that he throw that juice on my essay again.”
You giggled. “He does that sometimes,” you admitted. “But he and his friends aren’t so bad. Remus is pretty decent and he helps me studying sometimes. Maybe we should be nicer to them we could actually study together.” Lily just scoffed while you started to brush some yellow paint on your skin.
You were sitting by the black lake, your head in Lily’s lap while you were trying to study.
“Oh can you just shut it?” you suddenly exploded and the boys who were discussing something vividly next to you stopped and stared at you.
“What’s your problem?” Sirius asked and came nearer to sit down next to you while accidently kicking your leg. His friends followed him but didn’t sit down.
“Excuse me for being stressed because of the exams. I just want to study and you’re loud as hell. I can’t concentrate.”
“I think you need to lose up a bit,” Sirius said. “Even Remus is taking a break. How about we get together tonight and relax? We’ll get some stuff to eat and drink.” He offered.
You put your book away and rubbed your eyes. “Okay,” you said and surprised everyone including Lily. You were pretty stressed and you needed a night without studying.
“Okay, common room, 8 o’clock,” he said and jumped to his feet.
You were in the common room before eight, playing a round of chess (the muggle version as neither Lily or you had the wizard edition). When it was almost time to meet the boys, Remus appeared by their side. “We decided to meet in our dorm if that’s okay for you. It’s a bit crowded and we didn’t really want to explain where we got the things,” he explained. You nodded and followed him. Sirius, Peter and James were sitting on the floor. Pillows were on the floor for makeshift seats and many sweets and drinks were also shattered on the floor. You even spotted half a bottle of fire whiskey.
“Oi, would you just shut it? Just wait for your soulmate,” Lily exclaimed after a rather nice evening. You really had fun – bot of you.
“So, what if I think you are my soulmate, Evans?” he said and while Lily didn’t pick up on it you noticed that he’d turned serious.
“Then I’d tell you, that you’re delusional. Here, I’ll proof you wrong and hopefully you’ll let me alone.” She got on her knees and bent forward, grabbed James arm and pinched him forcefully.
“Are you mad, woman? Why didn’t you pinch yourself?” Potter exclaimed and rubbed the hurting spot.
“Why should I suffer, just because your wishful thinking?”
“Have you spotted marks yet?” Peter asked her curiously.
“No.” Lily admitted.
“See, so it wouldn’t proof anything,” James exclaimed.
“What about you, have you seen some?” Remus asked you.
“Yeah, I see them since I’m ten. But I don’t want to talk about it,” you answered quietly.
Lily who’s just took a long sip of the whiskey laughed suddenly. “Oh, we’re joking that he’s a werewolf,” she laughed and both of you didn’t notice that the colour drained from the boys faces. “We’re coming up with the most ridiculous answers to explain the bruising covering her whole body.”
“Lily, stop,” you said and grabbed her arm. You didn’t really want to discuss anything of your soulmate in front of others. It wasn’t their problem and you bet he didn’t want everybody to know about it.
“You’re making fun of it?” James asked quietly, but serious. You felt like there was a spotlight shining on you.
“Well, excuse me for trying to make sense out of it or trying to make fun of it. I didn’t know that I was only supposed to think about what an awful life my soulmate seems to have and how I can’t do anything to help. Thanks for the night, it was nice so far.” You stood up, taking your best friend with you and left the dorm. You didn’t notice that nobody wished you a good night.
“I’m sorry,” Lily said, but you told her she had nothing to be sorry for.
When you woke up the next morning and greeted Lily she didn’t answer. She sat on her bed and didn’t move. You sat down next to her and before you could ask she pointed to a little bruise on her arm – the position where she had pinched James to proof that he isn’t her soulmate.
“It’s seems chilly outside, it won’t be weird for us to wear the sweaters,” you pointed out and for that day you didn’t talk about it until she climbed into the bed with you when you were supposed to sleep.
After the night in the boys dorm it became kind of awkward, especially with Remus. You didn’t study together anymore. You were surprised that Sirius were the only one still freely talking with you and so the two of you were walking on the grounds when you had a free period while your friends all had class.
“Hey, can we slow down?” you asked and put a hand on his arm.
“Of course, are you okay?” he asked.
“I don’t feel,” you stopped the sentence. And then you stopped everything because you fainted. It wasn’t long, because when you opened your eyes again you saw Sirius face in front of you.
“There you are. How are you feeling?”
“Not so good?”
“Can you walk to the infirmary?” You told him you would try and together you made you way inside the castle – your arms linked and just taking a break once.
Madam Pomfrey told you to sit on the bed. “Do you faint often?” she asked. You told her that this had been the first time, but you feel rather dizzy once a month. Just when you thought it couldn’t get more awkward, she asked if you’re sexually active. When you looked mortified at Sirius Madam Pomfrey paused.
“Mister Black, what are you still doing here?” she asked surprised. “Go outside, wait there if you must. But give the poor girl some privacy.”
He winked at you and walked outside. She examined you and gave you something to take when you were on your period so you wouldn’t feel dizzy anymore. She reminded you to drink more water in this time and you were excused. You were surprised to see Sirius still waiting in the hall, but he accompanied you to lunch without asking anything. But you noticed that there was a cup of water in front of you when you sat down.
Since you were thirteen you had a rather ugly scar just above your heart. It was a nasty scar and you didn’t want to think about how awful it had to be for your soulmate and why you both had that scar. Since the summer you often covered your skin in your paint. And today you had a feeling you needed to do this with this particular scar.
You were alone in your room so you took place in front of your mirror and while you looked over to the colours you felt the need to use just ink. You were aiming for the head of a wolf (maybe because the werewolf theory was stuck in your head?) but the more you painted it seemed more like the head of a dog. Never the less you were pleased with the outcome. You smiled when you took a last glance in the mirror before you got dressed to start your day. Somehow you felt lighter than before.
That day you didn’t see much of Sirus who was in the library searching for something. Remus joined him, but it was still strange. The tension had left your little group over the last month and you were sitting together for dinner. You noticed how Sirius always seemed to refill your cup with water until you told him to stop it. Lily seemed to warm up to James and he was almost walking on clouds because of it.
The topic of soulmates wasn’t mentioned anymore by any of you.
“What are you doing tonight?” James asked.
“We’ll meet up with the Hufflepuff girls, what about you?” you answered as Lilys mouth was still full of carrots.
“I need to go to the library again,” Sirius said, but it didn’t matter to him that you all could see that he was munching potatoes.
“What are you doing there? Planning a new prank? Should we be worried?” Lily asked when she had finally finished her vegetables.
“It’s personal,” he just answered, but that didn’t really ease your worry about getting pranked.
When you woke up the next day you didn’t feel any different other than feeling refreshed as it was Sunday and you could sleep in. You went to the bathroom and when you started to scrub the ink off your body, you haltered. Did you use Lilys powder? No, you were alone when you inked yourself. So why didn’t the paint fade away. Well the water turned black but the picture of the dog stayed on your skin. You scrubbed and scrubbed, but it still stayed there.
You were confused but as you couldn’t do a thing you decided to end your shower. After getting dressed in a sweatshirt you made your way to the great hall where Lily was sitting with the boy gang and they were talking loudly.
“Oh come on and show it, if you’re so proud of yourself,” you heard Lilys voice.
“You know if you want to see a shirtless guy, you can always ask me. You know I won’t hesitate.” James eyebrows rose suggestively.
“What’s going on?” you asked when you sat down next to Peter and grabbed a piece of toast.
“Well Sirius here got a tattoo yesterday and although he tells us how awesome it is he won’t show it,” Lily explained.
“How did you get a tattoo?” you asked confused and looked over to see Sirius smirking. While he started to tell something about how he got it you spotted black ink under his white dress shirt. Black Ink right above his heart. Black Ink that looked familiar. You leant over the table and knocked something over. While you heard Peter complain about his pants which were soaked now, you started to undo Sirius button.
“You could at least ask,” he started but you didn’t react. You opened another button and lifted the white fabric. You were looking at a black dog.
“Neat,” you heard someone say.
“I know this painting style,” the voice of a girl was heard. Probably Lily, but it was as if you stood in a fog. You couldn’t hear or see anything other than that black dog in front of you.
“This isn’t.... This...” you started, but you didn’t know how you should finish that sentence.
You heard Sirius saying your name. His grin has left his face as he saw your shocked one. “It's just a tattoo,” his voice came through to the fog. You turned around, almost falling over the bench and walked away. You heard the voices of your friends behind you asking if you’re okay.
“Sirius, how did you choose this motive?” Lily asked while Peter was still busy to dry his pants.
“Well, you know...,” Sirius blushed a little. “It just appeared yesterday morning. And I liked it so much I searched for a way how it could stay there.”
“Did that happen often?” the red head asked further.
“One summer,” James started.
“you were covers in sunflowers?” finished Lily.
“How do you know that? Did you tell her?” Sirius was glowering at his best friend. James threw his hands up in defence.
“And was there a scar before that ink?” Lily questioned again.
“Yeah, how do you know all about this?” Sirius asked confused while Remus had put the puzzle pieces together.
“Because your soulmate has just left the room,” Lily concluded.
“What?” were heard from three different mouths.
Lily said they should all search for you, but Sirius said he had a feeling he’s know where you’d be and James gave him a blank piece of paper. Sirius took it and walked away.
“There you are,” you heard Sirius voice behind you. There weren’t many people outside as it was the end of autumn so you had decided to go for a walk.
You had almost reached the Whomping Willow when you decided it was far enough. As you hadn’t planned to walk outside you didn’t have a jacket with you and the wind was blowing. You shivered but you didn’t want to go back inside to talk about what you had just found out.
“I grabbed you a blanket,” you heard Sirius voice again.
“I’m actually quiet shocked that we’re soulmates. We all thought that Moony was yours.” The boy sat down next to you, facing the trees and the castle like you.
“Why Remus?” you asked and he just shrugged.
There wasn’t anything said for a few minutes. “I don’t know what to say. I never knew what I should say when I imagined meeting my soulmate. I can’t even imagine.. It must have been horrible... Merlin, what have you gone through,” you finally said and put your fingers above his hand.
“I don’t really want to talk about it, if that’s okay for you. At least for now,” he said.
“Of course. How about we start as friends and if you want to talk about it, I’m here?” He smiled at you and nodded.
“So, you like to paint?” he asked and so you started to learn more about each other with your fingers still touching his.

Sunset.
Your breath hitched in your throat as you watched with an unwavering gaze, as the yellow-orange orb of light slowly sank beneath the horizon. You needed to get home and quick, it was unsafe for you to be out once the sun had settled, everyone knew that. Your feet pick up pace; barely there threads of light lingering in the darkening blue sky mingling with the rolling clouds above your head.
You were still ways away from your apartment, and from the way the sunset melted into a stygian darkness that took over the sky, you knew you would be in for it tonight. You just hoped your feet could carry you home quick enough. As soon as the first sequined star lit up the night sky, howls of laughter tore throughout the streets. You tried to even you breathing, the racing of your pumping heart, why hadn’t you left the office earlier!
Your running now, legs pumping as the howls of laughter echo around you, “she smells sweet boys!”
A scream wants to tear from your lips, but you know that will only make your already dire situation much worse. Your legs are threatening to give out on you, your feet burning as you push your heeled feet further turning a sharp right onto your block. You hit a wall of muscle a scream threatening to escape your lips, but your frozen. His face is stoic, he’s bringing a finger to his lips, “If you don’t want to end up bleeding out in a grimy alleyway, I need you to do exactly as I say.”
His voice sends a shiver through you, freezing you into submission.
Footsteps sound from behind you and you can’t help but cower closer to the equally as intimidating man before you.
“Ah shit.” you hear from behind you, and it's enough to send skin on your arms rising in fear.
“James, how’s it going see you caught our little escapee,” another voice different from the first calls out, “thanks for cutting her off for us man,”
Your heart beats heavily in your ears, eyes widening, oh god you were going to pass out, you were going to pass out. You can feel yourself sway, but the strangers hand shoots out, steadying your swaying form with his hand on your hip, a cold pressed through your cardigan, past your silk cami, till its spreading through your skin. Your eyes widen again, your feet pace, ane he must catch onto it because he stares down at you, jaw ticking, eyes flashing red, and it takes your breath away.
His eyes slide back to the men behind you, “Look James, we don’t want any trouble with you or yours we just want the girl and we’ll go.” You watch his jaw clench, a shake of his head, “You asked for trouble the second you came to these parts.”
A growl sounds from behind you, “We didn’t know the bitch was a runner, just hand her over and we can all go about our way.”
“now why would I do that, she doesn’t look like she wants to go with you, she looks like she would rather be anywhere else than in the company of the two of you.”
“Barnes we don’t want to play any games tonight, just hand the damn girl over.”
James chuckles lowly, the sound resonating within you, “and you think I want to play games, that’s about the last thing I want to do with you two buffoons,” he sighs “the girl isn’t leaving with you two it’s best to just cut your losses.”
“And we said we weren’t leaving without the girl.”
James lets out a sigh, a coolness washing over your face making you shiver further, “I guess we’re doing this the hard way,” he muttered.
It all happened so quickly, you were pressed behind him just as quickly as you had smashed into him minutes before.
“All this for a girl Barnes, thought you were better than this.”
“And we thought you were better than this, he grunted, “guess we can’t all get what we want.”
You peer over the burly man’s shoulders the two men that wanted you staring right back at you, their eyes glowing an almost black red.
You wondered if you could make a run for it, “wouldn’t suggest that,” a cool voice whispered into your hair.
Your legs buckled from under you; strong hands caught you from behind, James looked over his shoulder eyes looking over you, “get her home, and be quick about it.”
You wanted to scream but you couldn’t find your voice, “I'll be back don’t have too much fun without me,” the voice called from behind you, “come on let's get you out of here.”
You want to dig your heels into the rain slicked street, but you're not match for the hands wrangling you, “which apartment complex is yours?”
Your head shoots back to him eyes wide, “w-what?”
The shaggy haired blonde laughs, “surprised aren’t you,” he questions, “we’re not all like those you hear about in the news.”
“i- I just-”
He’s shaking his head, a smile pulling at his surprisingly pink lips, “don’t have to explain yourself to me, just make sure you leave work earlier, as soon as the stars are out, so are the “undead”.
“which is yours?” he questioned to the complexes, “that one over there,” you replied shakily.
He nodded “I'll see you in, and if you see those two, as long as you don’t welcome them into your home, they can’t step foot in there.”
You furrowed your brows, “that's actually a thing, we have to invite you in?”
He nodded his head, “yeah, we need your permission always.”
“even those other two back there would have to follow?”
He’s chuckling, “they might not choose to live like we do, but they still have to follow certain rules.” A pause “why don’t you get inside, I think you’ve had enough for one night.”
Your nodding your head before turning away intent on grabbing your keys and thanking him, but when your eyes are sliding back to where he was, he’s not there, he had disappeared into the shadows of the night, you hadn’t even gotten his name.
With the wind picking up around you, so did the noises of the night. Another shiver rolled through you as you raced up the steps of your home, your mother would never believe this, you thought as you leaned against the closed door of your home.
And she really hadn’t.
It was a week later and you were on your lunch break your mother badgering you over the phone.
“Y/n I cannot allow you to walk home alone, not after what you went through, and why has it taken you a week to tell me about this incident, would you have rather me find out in the news that they found your body in a dark and grimy alley?!”
You rolled your eyes, “mother this is exactly why I didn’t tell you anything sooner, look at how you're getting,” you sighed, “I’m fine mom really, there’s no need to send anybody to walk me home, I’ve started leaving the office earlier it was one night, it was just a slip up I promise I don’t need somebody to walk me home!”
Your mother huffed over the line, “Oh y/n you know your mother only worries for your safety, look if you ever have to stay late and you ever need help getting home please call me before you leave that office, I will make sure there is someone there to get you home safely.”
“Of course, mother I promise should there ever be any reason for help, I will let you know I promise, now look my lunch is almost up and I must finish my work if I want to head home early.”
“Alright sweetheart, well I'm glad you advised me, but really I wish you would have said something sooner, please call me the second you get home I need to make sure you get home with all the craziness now in our world, I can’t fathom losing you too.”
“I know mom,” you whispered into the line,
“I’ll call you as soon as I get home.”
“Y/n honestly sweetheart I’m just thinking about you at this point,” she sighed, “I’ll let you go sweetheart, I hope you’ll make time to come visit me and your father soon.”
“I’ll try my hardest mother.”
“ I love you sweetheart be safe.
“I love you too.”
The line cut off shortly after, your eyes drifted to the frame that sat on your desk, it was of you and your brother, before these times. The two of you had been two peas in a pod, you wouldn’t catch one without the other. You never imagined you would have to be laying your brother to rest before you parents but when News of the undead had begun to rise throughout your quiet town, not many had headed the caution that came with said news, your brother one of them. It wasn’t shortly after that news of many of the residents of your quiet town had begun to be found dead in the grimy alleyways your mother cautioned you of, when you had gotten news of your brothers fate, your mother had done all she could to keep you from that very same fate. You were lost without your brother, and ultimately it had drove you away from your parents, leaving home had been inevitable.
While on your own you had been lucky enough to never have an occurrence happen, but the news had been there to show you all the horrors. So you had been cautious, repeating a daily mantra that you would not be another body in the alleyway where so many had been found. That was until last week of course; that had been your first ever occurrence, and you couldn’t get that night out of your head, you couldn’t get James or his friend out of your head, you couldn’t understand why your life had been spared.
The news had depicted the undead as blood thirsty humans that would stop at nothing to feed on the next living human soul. They had advised every morning to be in the safety of your own homes before the sun went down, and lock and board every door or window so that none could enter, and that if you were to be caught in the streets after sundown, well god be with you. You had never once heard of the ones that were like James and his friend, the ones that protected the likes of you, that made sure you got home, that disappeared into the shadows once they had made sure you were safe. Why wasn’t the news talking about them?
A sigh left your lips as you returned to your computer, you sat there for hours just looking at the damn project that you know needed to be completed by the end of the week but you couldn’t bring yourself to actually getting anything done. Maybe calling your mother had been a bad idea. You allowed another two hours to pass you by before you were done, shutting down your desktop, you began to gather your things, you could only hope tomorrow would be a better day.
You were exiting the through the building's doors making your way down the street when a shiver rolled through you. You pulled your suit jacket closer, as you continued your trek home. The walk home had been a lot quicker this evening, ever since that night, you had increased the speed in which you walked home, you never wanted to be put in a situation like that night ever.
You were throwing up the door to your apartment, when you froze mid-step, eyes wide, he was standing in the middle of your apartment, eyes on your unmoving form. He’s moving towards you, your breath catching in your throat, your hand falls away from the door as he shuts it silently behind you. He’s feet away from you eyes glowering, you want to look away but your entranced. Thick, lustrous, dark brown hair framed his face; mesmerizing ocean blue orbs with flecks of hazel throughout held you in place. His face was strong, defined porcelain features molded from granite. Dark brows rested above his eyes, sloped down into a solemn expression.
You finally find your voice, “w-what are you doing in here,” you questioned shakily, “h-how did you even get in?”
His head tilts to the side slightly, brow raised, “I’ve been on your mind haven’t I,” he questioned.
“w-well y-yes but -”
“that’s why I'm here,” he replies, he almost looks bored, but then again you can’t really get a read on him.
“but I thought, you had to be welcomed in, I-I didn’t welcome you in.”
Hie eyes study you, “would you like me to go?”
You weren’t sure what you were thinking when your shook your head ‘no’ you both are unmoving as the seconds tick you by before you can find your voice again, “why are you here?”
“like I said I've been on your mind haven’t I, my names running through your mind, you’ve been curious about me, I can only let this pull I have to you go on for so long before I must do something about it.”
Your brows furrowed in confusion, “pull,” you questioned, “what ever do you mean by that.”
“I’m sure my friend Steve,” so that was shaggy blondes name, “who helped you home that night explained that the only way for us to enter your home is for you to welcome us in, well doll, since my name and the event of that night have been running frigid through your curious mind I have a pull to you it’s like your calling for me,” your brows furrowed further in confusion, “but I wasn’t speaking your name,” you replied.
He chuckles lowly, the sound resonating deep within you, “you don’t need to speak my name for me to hear it,” his words take you by surprise, your feet backing up as he draws closer. Your back hits the door, breath catching in your throat when he runs a finger over you cheek, it should have left you cold like that night that same hand rested on your hip, but instead there’s a warmth left in its wake, a warmth that spreads within you.
“W-what is happening, y-you,”
“You feel it don’t you,” he questions.
What were you supposed to be feeling because you were sure the warmth flowing within you wasn’t it. He’s cupping your cheek now, “what do you feel?” He questions and his eyes are shining something different.
“Warmth.”
He’s pulling his hand away as if he’s been burnt by your touch.
“I have to go,” he murmurs and he’s turning on his heel making his way through your apartment.
Your confused as you chase after him, “James, James wait, what is going on, why are you-”
His body tenses by the open window, “I’m sorry if I have confused you any further, but I really must go.”
Needs to go? But you need answers and he’s the only one who has them.
Your moving forward again, hand falling to his bicep, “James please I-”
His head snaps towards you, eyes glowing red, the same red you saw that night a week ago from the two who were likely to have left you lifeless in an alleyway. Your hand falls from his arm, you take a step back.
His jaw is clenched hands tightening to fist by his sides, “i need to go, I’m sorry,” he grunts.
Just like Steve he’s gone in the blink of an eye, except this time he isn’t disappearing into the shadows of the night, he’s disappearing with the last warm rays of sun, he’s disappearing with what feels like a part of you.
Another week passes and just like the week before your mind is on James, you don’t mean to think about him, but your world has shifted since that night two weeks ago, and with his visit last week there was so many things left unanswered for you. You had tried to throw yourself into work, tried your hardest to stay on task to put the finishing touches to the project, but whenever you came to a halt in the project your mind would wander back to him.
“Y/n head home, this project is wearing you out, you can barely keep focus on it, go home get some rest and you can finish this project up tomorrow, you know I’m willing to wait one more day.”
Tired eyes look up from your computers screen, your partner assigned to the same project is looking at you with worried eyes, “I’m almost done, give me two hours max, I’ll have it ready.”
She’s shaking her head, “it’s fine y/n, just head home this project is draining both of us, we can take one more day, please go home and relax you need it.”
That’s not the only thing you needed.
A sigh leaves your lips, “are you absolutely sure we can take another day?”
A smile tugs at your coworkers lips, “I already spoke to our higher ups they knew this project was going to need more time so they offered us another week for completion, so please for the love of god go home early and relax you look like you’ve been through hell and back.”
You chuckled softly as you shutdown your desktop gathering your things, “thank you, for doing this,” you murmured as you met her outside of your door.
“We both needed it,” she smiled, “now go and I better see you ready to kick some ass tomorrow.”
You thank her once more as you made your way out of the office. You really needed to get it together, you couldn’t be letting this or rather him affect your work. You didn’t even know the man, there was no way you could let yourself get so taken with him.
Your walk home is a little slower this time, there’s something about this afternoon that has you slowing down to enjoy the scenery around you, you feel calm, at peace, safe. Walking up the steps to complex you push open the front door trekking up another flight of stairs to get to your floor. Your stopping at the top of the stairs, two pairs of eyes turn to greet you, your brows furrow, “Steve?”
The shaggy haired blonde offers you a small smile and wave, you don’t move from the tops of the stairs, “was wondering If you could spare us a few minutes of your time, there’s some things we need to speak with you about, and its rather urgent.”
“us?” you questioned looking between the two of them.
“where are my manners,” the man next to Steve chuckled, he was moving forward then, hand stretched out towards you, “Sam Wilson, pleasure to meet you.” your brows furrow in confusion when your met with nothing but warmth, you glance down at your joined hands before they’re flitting back up to meet Sam’s eyes, “we’ll explain everything, we just need a few minutes of your time, if after we’ve told you everything we feel you need to know and you decide you want us to leave, you won’t ever hear from us again.
You were staring at the two men incredulously, your head shakes slightly, you hope the movement will make processing the information they chucked at you clearer, but it seemed to have only left you more confused.
“so what I'm like his soulmate?” you questioned.
Steve’s mouth parted, “well not exact-”
“If that makes this easier to process you can very well see it like that,” Sam cuts him off.
Your head shakes again, fingers pushing your hair behind your ears, “okay, okay,” you breath, “so say I am connected to Bucky on some level, is that the pull he was talking about,” you questioned, “you sure it wasn’t me just thinking about him as frequently as I did, as frequently as I still am that is causing this thing between us?”
Steve runs a hand over his beard, “y/n we know what we feel when a person is just merely thinking of us, or inviting us in, and we also know what it's like to be on a spiritual level with someone albeit Bucky’s was never as strong as it is now with you, that’s why he left as quickly as he did that evening, he had had every intention of giving you all the answers you needed, but when you said you felt warmth when he touched you he freaked, he didn’t think it would ever happen to him.”
You frowned taking in Steve’s words, another question sat on your tongue, though you're sure their answer would just confuse you further than you already felt. “might you know or rather did Bucky mention to you why his eyes flashed red, when I tried to get him to stay.”
You watched both men tense slightly, a sigh leaving their lips at the same time, “Y/n you promise you won’t freak out on us?” Steve questioned. You raised a brow, your heart racing in your chest, “why would I freak out?” you questioned calmly.
“I can hear your heart racing,” Steve chuckled, “look what you’re about to hear will likely have you wanting to run for the hills but I need you to just hear us out.”
You chuckled nervously, “isn’t that what I've been doing?”
“and you’ve been doing a great job at being understanding,” Sam added, “but what your about to hear, is something a lot of those bonded with the undead have a hard time hearing much less processing, we really wouldn’t blame you if you ran for the hills.”
Your eyes widened, “Sam,” Steve hissed smacking him in the gut, “What,” Sam grunted, but then he saw your frozen form.
“look y/n the reason for Bucky’s eyes flashing red is because,” Steve paused mulling over his words, tongue running over his bottom lip as he tried to find the right way to phrase this next part, “y/n when a person like yourself and a person like Bucky bond on a spiritual level somethings shifts within us.” he paused gauging your reaction.
“Something like what,” you questioned.
“well y/n, I'm sure you know that vampires must feed on blood to survive, and while we can feed on animal blood it isn’t quite the same or as fulfilling when its human blood,” there goes your heart again, “this feeling tends to become heightened when you’re around that person you’re spiritually bonded too.” oh god.
“So bucky wanted to feed on me?” your voice come out in a panicked squeak, oh god you would suffer the same fate as your brother, except it wouldn’t be in a grimy, wet, alley, it would be in your home.
You were suddenly feeling lightheaded, you needed some air, “y/n, you okay?” Sam questioned watching your swaying form.
“oh yeah, yeah,” you replied feet struggling to keep you up as you pushed off the chair, “Just peachy,” you murmured, taking one step before the world around you went black.
“What the hell did the two of you do to her,” his voice broke through your hazy mind, “when I told the two of you to come speak with her, I didn’t mean send her into a damn panic!”
Your eyes fluttered slightly as you struggled to get them open, “Buck, you asked us to come talk to her and we did, everything she needed answers to we provided them as best as we could,”
Buck sighed, “well what made her get so worked up she passed out?”
“she asked about your eyes flashing red,” a breath, “please tell me you didn’t Steve, please tell me you didn’t tell her.” the tone of Bucky’s voice is tense.
“Bucky I had no other choice she needed to kn-”
“Bullshit Steve, she didn’t need to know, you could have said anything else, why the hell did you have to tell her that, she has a right to chose not to go through with any of this, she has a a right to send us straight to hell!”
“Bucky I was just -”
“Steve that decision isn’t ours to make, I'm not going to force her into anything for fucks sake Steve we barely even know the girl and to throw her into something like this, she has a normal life Steve, it doesn’t matter what happens to me.”
“But bucky,” Steve tried.
“but nothing, the decision is hers and hers alone, if she wants us out of her apartment the second, she wakes up that’s what she's going to get understood?”
Both men gave their silent agreement the moment your eyes finally snapped open, Steve cleared his throat the second your eyes met his, Bucky looked over his shoulder his eyes falling to your form.
He looked tensed and wound up, his eyes were no longer that captivating blue you had come to know from two weeks ago, instead they were an almost lifeless grey. Your heart clenched something odd in your chest, you felt a tug from somewhere deep within you, a tug that wanted you to go over to him.
“How are you feeling y/n,” Bucky questioned voice slightly strained.
“Probably no better than you, I would imagine, you look like hell.”
Steve stifled a laugh, “I like her, Bucky can we keep her?” Sam laughed; Bucky grunted turning his head likely to glare at his friend.
“we are not keeping anyone, enough.” he hissed before turning back to you, “m’sorry if these two gave you any trouble y/n they may have the best intentions in mind, but sometimes it doesn’t always come out the way they intend.”
“It's fine the news was all a little much to take in is all,” came your reply.
“We can leave if you’d like I think we’ve overstayed our welcome anyhow,” there’s that tug again, you rub at your chest.
“You okay y/n,” Sam asks from behind Bucky, “you having chest pain?”
You shake your head, hand still rubbing over your chest, “just have this weird feeling, in my chest is all.”
“yearning.” comes Bucky’s quiet reply.
Your eyes slide back to his, he feels it too, that’s why he’s so tense and wound up, he wants to be by your side, but he isn’t allowing himself any closer.
“Sam, Steve, do you think you could give me a few minutes with Bucky?”
“Of course, either of you need anything we’ll be out in the kitchen,” he smiles.
“thank you,” you reply, “and thank you for bringing me to my bed instead of that god-awful couch.”
“No problem, we’ll be right out here.”
Bucky's turning to you the second the door is shutting behind Steve, he remains in his spot, “do you want to sit,” you questioned moving up the bed, “promise I don’t bite.”
Bucky chuckled shaking his head, “I don’t think that would be wise, it’s not you it’s me,” he takes in a breath his body relaxing slightly, “what is it that you wanted to ask me about?”
“Do you feel it too, do you have that tugging feeling in your chest?”
“I do, and as much as I'd like to act on instinct, I will not.”
You tilt your head to the side, “why deny yourself something that you want, need to survive it seems.”
“because that instinct should I choose to act on it doesn’t only affect me, as you know it affects you as well, and that decision should solely be yours to make, I won’t force it upon you.”
“Steve said you were different from the other’s, now I'm seeing just how much.” you replied, “I heard you tell Steve it didn’t matter what happens to you,” you paused, “what happens to you?”
“It's nothing for you to concern yourself over y/n, really, I'll be fine.” he tries.
“Except that you won’t be,” you argue, “Bucky you’ve never had a bond like this one, Steve at least told me that much, you say you’ll be fine but look at how it’s already affected you.”
“Like I said those two mean well but they blow things out of proportion as well its -”
“It's not fine,” you cut him off, “Bucky you look drained, your eyes aren't the color they used to be, they’re gray and lifeless, your face is sunken in,”
“and this is nothing new, look y/n, you don’t know me, you met me two weeks ago when I saved you from Zemo and Brock, and even then I wouldn’t call that an introduction, and the second time we met, same thing, you don’t know me, and I don’t know you, you might think you do from the little that Steve and Sam told you, but I assure you, you don’t know the real me.”
“So then let me get to know the real you.” you challenged; his jaw clenched.
“Y/n no, there’s nothing to know, you don’t want to do this, to give yourself to this life, to give yourself to me.”
“Because you’re not letting me,” you hissed, “you’re not letting me try to get to know you, you ran away the first time without so much as giving me answers and I'll be damned if I let you escape again, Bucky you’re not the only one suffering from this, like you said the decision not only affects you, it affects me as well, and it has been affecting me!”
“you don’t know what you’re asking for, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into!” he growled.
“and that’s on me,” you fought back, “this is my decision, because like I said it hasn’t only been affecting you, it's also affecting me.”
His patience runs thin with you, and he’s snapping in an instant as he stalks towards you, jaw clenched as he grabs a hold of your feet pulling you down your sheets. He’s on you in an instant, eyes reflecting red, stealing your breath, he’s surprised you haven’t screamed, "you don’t want this to be your life,” he hisses, hand trailing up your side till it rests on the side of your neck.
“You don’t know what you’re asking for y/n,” he murmurs fingers pressing your head up exposing more of your neck to him, “you think it's as easy as just saying yes, but it's not,”
“tell me y/n, what are you feeling hmm,” his voice has a shiver rolling through you, the tip of his nose running along your jugular vein. “do you know how easy it would be to just sink my teeth into your skin, right here,” his lips press to the spot, the feeling has your breath catching in your throat, fingers curling into the sheets.
“I could end your life in a second y/n,” he coos. A hiss leaves your lips as he presses a nail into your skin, a stinging pain left in its wake. He’s pressing into your neck again, tongue running over what you can only imagine to be a cut he left behind, your body acts on its own volition, back arching up into him, hand finding its way into his tousled locks that have been pulled into a low bun.
A growl leaves his lips, “tell me to stop y/n, I need you to tell me to stop,”
Your mind is hazy, your fingers curl further into his hair, “I can’t because I don’t want to.” you whisper. And it’s the truth, there’s a peacefulness encompassing you, a feeling you can’t bring yourself to part from.
Bucky grunts as he removes himself from your neck, and you know it's taken all of him to do so, he’s looking down at you and stealing your breath once more, “Bucky, your eyes,” you breathe.
“I can’t let you do this y/n,” he tries, “you're not thinking, whatever you’re feeling it's not you.”
Your hands come up to cup his cheeks, and you can’t help but smile at the warmth that lays beneath your hands, “it’s my decision James, let me have this, life has always been decided for me, let me have this.”
Bucky looked away from you, there was an eternal battle going on within him, he knew what would happen if he refused you, but he also knew what would happen if he didn’t.
He was slipping off of you then without so much as a word from his lips, the ache in your chest growing the further he drew himself from you, you watched with baited breath as he showed himself out of you bedroom door, you swallowed down the knot in your throat rubbing at the ache in your chest.
You wanted to be optimistic but the ache in your chest only grew the longer you stared at your closed bedroom door, he had made his decision. You weren’t sure how long you sat there on your bed staring at the damn door, but it was getting harder to get air, you had even debated going out to sit on the stairs outside the apartment complex with how heavy your chest had begun to feel, you felt like a heavy rock had been placed on top of you, it was driving you insane.
You had barely gotten any sleep that night, you were miserable, and it showed the following day at work, but you would be damned if you let this be the thing that takes over your life. You had stayed locked away in the office skipping lunch to get the project proposal done, if you could get this done, and the right way, maybe you’d have enough time before the next project was hurled at you to figure out how to rid yourself of this ache in your chest. God damnit Bucky Barnes.
You were typing furiously at the proposal, one more sentence, and DONE. A smile took over your features as you uploaded the proposal onto an email sending it to your partner and the higherups looking over this project. You leaned back in your office chair looking over the sent email, you had done it, though you had dreaded it the entire time, you had actually done it, looking at the time on your desktop your eyes widened at the time, 8:30 p.m. “shit” you hissed gathering your things, you didn’t bother shutting down your desktop as you raced down the hallway, you knew you had told no one to disturb you, but you hadn’t meant not to disturb you at all! By the time you got down to the front doors of the office your heart sank in your chest, dark blue with speckles of silver filled the night. “shit, shit, shit,” you groaned.
You pulled at your purse looking for your phone, you weren’t sure what help your mom would be, but maybe she had some sort of solution to offer you. Looking for her contact, you pressed her name before bringing the phone to your ear. You tapped your foot impatiently on the floor, your eyes focused on the tiles as you waited for the answer that would never come. A groan fell from your lips as it went to voicemail, “damnit ma, c’mon,” you groaned, you were ready to press the call button one more time when a tapping against the glass doors had your eyes shooting up.
Your lips parted, before they were falling into a thin line, eyes glaring.
You moved forward cautiously as you pushed open the office door slightly, “what are you doing here?”
Bucky sighed rubbing at the back of his head, “came to offer you a ride home,”
You scoffed, “well you can leave, I'll find my own way home.”
Bucky groaned, “please don’t do this y/n, you know what lurks out on the streets right now, let me take you home.”
“your right I do know what’s out there, I'm looking at one,” you grunted braving it out as you stepped out onto the streets, slipping off your heels, you’d be able to run without the wretched things on.
“Y/n, I won’t ask again.” his eyes flashed red.
You got into his space, eyes glaring, “your right, you won’t, now if you’d please, I need to be getting home.”
A hand wrapped itself around your arm, “and you’ll be getting home safely by taking a ride from me, I’m sure your mother would be devastated to know that the last time she could have heard from her daughter she missed the call.”
You glared at him over your shoulder, snatching your hand out of his hold, “fine,” you hissed, “but as soon as you get me home, I want you gone.”
Bucky doesn’t answer as he leads you to a black car, he helps you in before he rounds to his side.
The drive to your apartment is short, the uncomfortable silence suffocating. You almost couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. On top of the already heavy weight on your chest, and the thick tension, you were sure you would collapse from not being able to get enough air.
Your racing up the steps of your apartment shoving open the first door as you race up the stairs, “I told you to leave Bucky,” you grunted trying to get the keys into the slot. He’s plucking the keys from your hand getting your door open swiftly his hands guiding you through it. You want to push him away, tell him to fuck off, but his hands on you relieve the weight.
He’s leading you over to the couch, helping you down, a silence falls over you, “you can go now I’m home safely, you don’t need to stay any longer.”
“Not until you let me apologize, and explain.”
You look over at him, “apologize and explain what James, you said enough last night, what more could you possibly want to say?”
“I’m sorry for leaving last night, I thought I was doing the right thing,”
“Right thing,” you questioned “you thought you were doing the right thing even after I told you that I wanted this?”
“Y/n we don’t know each other, you don’t know my life, and I don’t know yours we’re not the same sweetheart, that’s why I couldn’t let you do this to yourself, that’s why I couldn’t let you agree to something like this, it’s bigger than me and you.”
“It was still my choice Bucky, and you took that from me, you’ve had me hung up since that first night and your right I don’t know you, but it doesn’t change the fact that for some reason I’m drawn to you, and when you’re not around it’s absolute hell!”
“Y/n you don’t know the dangers even if we’re drawn to one another I could still hurt you, kill you.” He argued.
Your glaring at him, “you say I don’t know the dangers, but I lost my brother to those like you, so trust me I know the dangers, I know them very well, but that doesn’t stop how I’m feeling and it sure as hell isn’t going to change my mind.”
Bucky’s shaking his head, averting his eyes from you, and you wonder if he’ll leave again.
“Bucky if could fight this feeling I would, I would tell you to get the hell out of my home and never show up again,” his eyes shoot up to you widening slightly, “but I can’t, I know you say I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but we could get to know each other you just need to stop running, I know your scared and so am I, but I also can’t take you coming and going, it’s affecting me in more ways than one.”
“I can’t hurt you y/n,” you know he’s talking about feeding from you something Steve had said would eventually be inevitable, “it’s going to be hard, but your right I can’t keep coming and going something has brought us together and as much as I’d like to fight it I don’t think I can any longer, that’s why I came tonight, this is what I should of told you last night, but I was scared, so scared that I tried to push you away but it only drew me closer.”
“So then we take it slow but you have to let me help you when you need it, Steve said you wouldn’t feel satiated with blood you drink because of our bond.”
“Bucky,” you warned.
He raised his hands,”fine, fine, I’ll try.”
And try he did.
Most days or rather evenings after that night had been spent in Bucky’s company and as much as you tried to get him to satiate himself he wouldn’t have any of it. He would simply brush you off, pulling you in close telling you he would be fine. You wanted to argue till you were red in the face but you knew it would get you nowhere.
It wasn’t until one particular evening when Bucky called and he always did, and you always answered that something had shifted. Steve has said the moment would come but you just hadn’t expected it to take a month for him to finally snap.
A rushed knock had sounded at your door, your brows furrowed as you stood from the couch making your way to the doo, Bucky usually knocked but never like that.
You barely had the door open a crack before he was pushing his way in, “Bucky what’s wr-“ your words were cut off by his lips pressing roughly to yours, his foot kicking your door closed. Your hands gripped at his sides as he lead you through your home, his lips molded to yours as he pushed you into your bedroom.
He was pushing you down onto your bed, his breathing heavy as he looked over you like that first time, his eyes were blood red, “I need fuck y/n I need to,”
A shaky hand came to rest on his stubbled cheek, “it’s okay Bucky, I trust you.”
He’s shaking his head, even know he was fighting what was meant to happen, “ I-I tell me to stop.”
“Bucky I trust you,” you murmured leaning up to press your lips to his, an intimate gesture.
He chases your lips when you pull away, a grunt leaving his lips when you expose you neck to him.
“I trust you.”
Bucky lets out a shaky breath, “fuck sweetheart,” and something in him has shifted as he leans down warm breath ghosting over your neck, nose roaming over the expanse of sweet skin. He licks over your neck, licking, nipping, it’s enough to have you writhing underneath him. Silently pleading for him to do something, anything.
“Tell me you want this doll, tell me you need this just as much as I do he murmurs into you skin.
Goosebumps rise throughout your skin, a shiver rolling through your body as he breathes you in “Bucky please.”
His hand that wasn’t by your neck searched for yours lacing your hands together as he pressed his face deeper into your neck his lips parting, you sucked in a breath when you felt the sweet pain of his fangs breaking through your skin. A moan bubbles from your throat as you arched up into him, your hips rolling into his. You couldn’t describe the sensation that came with feeling your blood flow through you and into his mouth, but it was absolutely euphoric. It’s almost as if you were on cloud nine.
You never wanted the feeling to end.

MASTERLIST | WORK IN PROGRESS.
Gif below is not mine.
One could never find Alice Fortescue and (Y/N) (Y/L/N) far away from one another, one of them would always follow the other. Both girls became joined by the hip after a particularly hot day in July when (Y/N) and her family visited the Ice Cream Parlour on Diagon Alley, owned by Alice’s uncle, Florean.
After that, Alice and (Y/N) did everything together meaning it wasn’t a surprise to anyone that their friendship only grew stronger on their days at Hogwarts. They had their fair share of fights of course, people always do, whether the matter is relevant or silly, but they knew better: arguments happen and proving your point might be important, but friendships hold more value than being right.
Although the Wizarding World was turning more dark and dangerous with every passing second because of Voldemort’s hunger for power and his ruthless Death Eaters hunting down muggleborns and what they liked to call blood traitors, Alice and (Y/N) still tried to find joy and happiness in the littlest of things, exciting over Alice and Frank’s wedding, daydreaming about the day they could get a proper and big ceremony, instead of a small gathering with the closest of friends and family members.
On July, 30th of 1980, (Y/N) understood what Alice was to her. The girl with the plump, always happy looking face was, not only her closest confidant, but her sister as well. They may not have been related by blood, yet they loved each other like family. Thick as thieves, as the muggles would say.
(Y/N) had barely sat in the brown, ugly chair beside her best friend’s hospital bed, with her newborn boy asleep and unaware of the silent tears running through both of the girl’s cheeks, when Alice confided.
“We want you to be Neville’s Godmother.”
Her eyes stopped looking at the baby boy tucked in her arms to glance towards Alice’s direction, who was now being hugged from behind by Frank, both of them with large grins on their faces and reassuring expressions.
“M-Me?”
“Well, of course you, (Y/N)!,” exclaimed Frank before letting go of Alice for a second and getting shushed by both of them to keep him from disturbing Neville, “you are practically Alice’s sister after so many years of friendship,” he continued, now in a more quiet voice.
“He’s right, you are my sister and I can’t think of anyone else being better than you as his godmother.”
Several hours later, Harry Potter, son of Lily Evans and James Potter, was born. (Y/N) had gone to their room a day after to deliver her congratulations along with the ones from Alice and Frank, encountering Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew hunched down over the crib in which Harry was sleeping peacefully, staring at his small frame and his tiny chest barely rising with every breath.
None of them imagined how fast things could change for the worse.
(Y/N) knew Alice’s choice of career was dangerous, being an Auror was never an easy task but with Death Eaters and Voldemort bringing chaos and destruction to their world, the job was even harder. Still, she never thought she would be escorted to St. Mungo’s after receiving the news that her best friend, her sister, and her husband had been tortured by a group of blood supremacists seeking for their Master, not after also learning about the Potter’s deaths and how they’d been betrayed.
A healer explained to her what had happened to them, but she didn’t care, she didn’t want to listen; she didn’t have the strength for it. She could only sit beside Alice and grab her hand, and cry and beg someone, anyone, to bring her back.
“Alice, please, I need you, please,” (Y/N) repeated between sobs, almost like a mantra, ”Neville needs you, he is your son and- and he needs his mother, please, Alice. You can’t leave us.”
During her fourth day in the hospital, which she would only leave to eat and shower because of Augusta Longbottom’s insistence, a diveleshed Remus Lupin walked through the doors of the Janus Thickey Ward. He sat down beside (Y/N) and neither of them talked for a long time, until Remus decided he needed to say something.
“I don’t have much to say, (Y/N), but I know how close you were and I’m so sorry,” the boy whispered while reaching to grab her hand in an attempt to comfort her.
“I’m sorry too, Remus,” she whispered back, biting her lip and trying to not cry again,” neither of them deserved this.”
Neither did us, the pair thought.
“Where is Harry?,” (Y/N) asked him, suddenly remembering that the Potters had left a child too, “is he staying with you?”
“N-No, no. He is with Lily’s sister,” Remus answered after swallowing harshly, “what about Neville?”
“Augusta, Frank’s mum, will take care of him.” (Y/N) glanced over the old woman sitting beside her son while her grandchild rested on his crib. “I’ve been thinking about asking her if I can move in with them, I- I don’t feel like being alone right now.”
“You are always welcomed to visit me,” he assured in a low voice, as if he wasn’t sure of how she would react, “I know we weren’t the closest of friends back in Hogwarts, but- but you can count with me, we can count with each other.”
The sixteen year old (Y/N) would have been a stuttering mess if Remus Lupin had said that to her back in their sixth year at Hogwarts. Alice would have laughed at her embarrassed expression, joked about her sweaty hands and insisted that the Gryffindor returned her feelings, to which she would refuse to accept.
Now her best friend was in the hospital, a place she could never leave, her husband in the same condition and their son would have to grow up without his parents. She would have the chance to watch Neville first steps, to hear his first words, to celebrate the arrival of his Hogwarts letter at the age of eleven, to compliment his achievements, to just be there for him every time he’ll need it. It wasn’t fair and she would give her soul in an instant to anyone that claimed they could bring Alice and Frank back, even if it meant not seeing them again.
Taking care of Neville was easier than (Y/N) had expected. He’d only cry if he was hungry or if his diapers needed change, and for moments the woman wished for him to be more like the kind of babies who won’t let you sit down and relax, so then she wouldn’t have to force herself to block the blinding rage, the never ending desire for vengeance and, the worst of all, the guilt sinking down in her stomach and numbing her mind every single time Neville would look at her and smile, or whenever a giggle would escape his mouth after watching (Y/N) conjure tiny, golden lights with her wand.
The first time Neville properly talked, which meant he didn’t just babble like he usually did, (Y/N) swallowed all of her tears in front of Augusta and only let them out behind her room’s closed door after dinner. That same night, she sent a message through her Patronus to Remus, asking if she could Apparate in his flat right away. When she received an affirmative answer, she didn’t waste any time, quickly informing Augusta where she was going in case of an emergency.
The minute she was in front of his door, she’d started to regret her decision. What was she thinking? They weren’t particularly close, they would see each other from time to time since he would visit Neville once or twice every two weeks and he would go with her to see Alice and Frank, but never really talked about the important things, just making light conversation and asking each other how they were doing, both of them knowing that neither would answer the question truthfully.
After coming to the conclusion that she needed to do this, needed someone to confide in, (Y/N) raised her fist and knocked on the door two times, waited, and knocked again —his idea so they could know it was the other behind the door—.
On the other side of the threshold was Remus Lupin with his wand pointed towards her.
“Bowtruckle,” she said confidently, although her hand was clutching tightly around her wand.
“Thunderbird.”
She loathed the idea of having safe words, but he had insisted on it because of the few Death Eaters still on the run and causing havoc. Even if she’ll never mention it to him, the second the word she had picked up for him to say left his mouth, tranquility invaded her system, calming down most of her fears.
“We could have chosen better words,” (Y/N) commented while she entered his apartment, which looked like he had tried to tidy everything up before her arrival but had failed miserably. The space was small, not a problem since he lived alone, but that meant you could see all of the rooms. There were mugs on every surface, clothes thrown over the sofa and a bin filled to the top with chocolate wrappers.
“The whole place is a mess, I’m sorry,” he rushed to say while flicking his wand and enchanted the cups to clean themselves, different items of clothes, mostly sweaters, flew across the flat and ended up in the laundry basket, “I-I wasn’t expecting you to come today.”
“It’s good, Remus, I don’t mind,” (Y/N) assured, following him and sitting down on the maroon sofa that occupied pretty much all of the living room, “I should be the one apologising for showing up with such short notice and at this hour, but I… I guess I needed someone to talk to.”
“Oh, okay. Did something happen? Is Neville alright?”
“Yes, yes, he’s fine, brilliant actually,” she answered quickly to not worry him,” the thing is, he said his first word today and, and, well, he called me mum.”
“And now you feel guilty,” Remus assumed. (Y/N) had filled with tears once more, blurring her sight and dripping down her cheeks. When she started to sob, shaking her shoulders while her hands tried to muffle the sounds, Remus understood it wasn’t just guilt, but the grief she hadn’t let herself experience. Pulling her closer to him, Remus rested his chin on top of her head while his arms embraced her figure.
“I- I don’t know what to do, Remus,” she whimpered, “I’m not, I’m not trying to replace her, I swear.” Her hands found his old, forest green sweater, fingers clutching desperately to the fabric while her cries increased. “I could never replace her.”
“You are not replacing Alice, (Y/N),” he denied. His fingertips rubbing her arm tenderly, knowing nothing would be enough to comfort but still trying, just for her to know he was there. “You’re doing your best and there’s nothing wrong with Neville seeing you as a mother figure.”
“I don’t want him to,” the words left her mouth in a whisper, as if she was scared of what Remus would think of her for saying them out loud, for crossing her mind, “I shouldn’t be his mother figure because she should be here. She should be the one to feed him, to play with him, to get to know him and- and she is not, she is not here, Remus.”
Neville is four years old when he asks his Auntie (Y/N), because yes, he understands that she is not her mother, about the middle size portrait hung in the living room. The little boy doesn’t recognise the man nor the woman carrying a baby painted in it, for they don’t like his aunt, or granny or Remus, (Y/N)’s friend who always gives him chocolate when Augusta is not in the room.
(Y/N)’s heart beats loudly after hearing her godson’s question, the tightness in her chest making her feel trapped. Sitting down Neville beside her on the sofa, she glanced down to the boy, who was the spitting image of Alice.
“The people in the picture are your parents, Nev,” (Y/N) began in a soft tone, her fingers playing tenderly with the curls of his brown hair, “and the baby the woman, your mother, is carrying is you of course.”
“Why aren’t they here?,” he asked after climbing and settling on her lap, his head raised to look at his aunt.
“Because they- they need to be in another place.”
“Will they- will they come back, auntie?”
“I don’t know, Nev,” she lied while hugging him and planting a delicate kiss on one of his round cheeks, the lump on her throat growing.
She’d hoped he didn’t ask more questions or else she’ll have to explain the tears. He didn’t.
(Y/N) wouldn’t dare to say that the pain and the guilt abandoned her completely, but with each passing year things got just a little bit easier and her heart less heavy.
The first time Neville visited his parents wasn’t so terrible as she had imagined. (Y/N) had put him aside before entering the doors leading to the Janus Thickey Ward and explained, one more time, the situation to him, making sure he was ready.
“You need to be brave, little wizard. I’ll be by your side every step of the way.”
Neville was nine years old when Alice gave him a gum wrapper, something that quickly became a “tradition” between the two of them, mother and son. She would never recover and she would never watch Neville grow up and become a man, but such simple gesture showed him consistency and, most importantly, that Alice’s love for him could never be taken away from her.
People would pity the death most of the time, (Y/N) had been guilty of it, but after everything that had happened she realized it was so much worse for those left behind. You are expected to overcome your grief and move on with your life, but the void and the mark someone is capable of leaving in you never goes away and it’s the reason why it hurts so much to lose them.
Although (Y/N) hadn’t been alone, Augusta and Neville would never understand her pain and she’d never understand theirs for they were very different. Therefore, Remus Lupin became her rock in the darkest times and she became his, confiding in each other during their most vulnerable moments.
They would spend entire days together, playing with Neville and telling him stories of their years at Hogwarts; drinking tea near the fireplace during winter while discussing books, politics, muggle movies or whatever topic they could think of; celebrating birthdays just for the sake of Neville, who loved the cake and giving presents. It was clear that falling in love with Remus hadn’t been much difficult for her, it was, instead, getting him to open up and let her in his life in a whole new way.
(Y/N) respected his decision, it was better to have Remus as a close friend and companion than not have him at all. She would stay with him on the days near the full moon —he told her after quite a few shots of Firewhisky and she admitted she’d been suspecting for a long time now—, look after his wounds and sleep on his sofa, because she could never take his bed in those nights (especially the rough ones).
On May 2nd, he left her behind.
However, she had barely escaped the claws of death, her only thought being Neville and how she needed to stay alive for him.
Bellatrix Lestrange was the last Death Eater standing, the mad woman fighting Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and Hermione Granger in the middle of the Great Hall, while Harry Potter faced Voldemort all by himself.
(Y/N) didn’t know how or from where she had gathered the strength to send all of the three girls behind her with a swift motion of her wand, but seeing Lestrange, one of the Death Eaters responsible for her best friend’s fate, shouting the Killing Curse to the Weasley girl had ignited the fire she’d tried so long to extinguish. Perhaps because Ginny reminded her of Lily for a second, or because she was tired of watching innocent people die around her.
She was now standing a couple of metres away from Bellatrix, the one that’d tortured her sister into insanity, taking away all of her life. But (Y/N) wouldn’t become one of her victims, she wouldn’t be a name on a list and she wouldn’t let Bellatrix take another person from Neville’s life.
It hadn’t been easy and she should have felt sick of it, but the lifeless body of Bellatrix Lestrange and the roars of people all over the place, brought her a bittersweet feeling of satisfaction.
Sitting down beside Neville after the final battle finished, she threw one of her arms around his shoulders and kissed his forehead, silently thanking whoever had watched over him.
“Earlier, I saw you on the Courtyard defending a group of students from the Dementors,” he began, “and your Patronus was so, so extraordinary. What did you think of, aunt?”
(Y/N) allowed herself to smile softly.
“I thought of the day you were born, of course.”

In another life… I arranged a number of operations of… questionable legality
James Potter had always been a menace.
The vendors who set up their stands in Godric Hollow’s town square knew to be wary of the young boy, whose messy black mop of hair was just visible over their countertops as he skipped from booth to booth. No one was certain where he came from or where his parents might be (though Marcus, the apple harvester, swore he once saw the kid just over the hill with an unexpectedly kind older couple), but everyone knew trouble followed the boy like an obedient puppy.
It started with the usual childhood mischief. He would show up at the farmer’s market, seemingly out of nowhere, wielding twigs from a nearby tree or sometimes a cardboard sword. Always battling an imaginary enemy. Large bursts of energy mixed with childish incoordination would result in smashed crates of potatoes or torn awnings. Farmers turned red with frustration, but their wives brushed them off, absolutely charmed by those big hazel eyes behind even bigger wire-rimmed glasses. The boy would wreak havoc and get off without so much as a loving pinch on the cheek.
But then one summer, once his glasses started fitting his face and those wide eyes became more calculating, the real hijinks began. Peculiar things seemed to happen whenever the young boy made his way to the square. Marty’s carrots would suddenly appear on Andrew’s cabbage display, as if out of thin air. Abigail's piglet disappeared, then reappeared again, squealing up a storm, in Michael’s barrel of beans. Oddities popped up left and right around the child, still too small to reach the booth’s counters without having to balance on his tiptoes. The vendors groveled and knit their brows into headaches, but the boy would flash his little grin and the wives would fawn, offering up samples of their best honey or slices of freshly baked bread.
Eventually, the farmers settled into their new routine of expecting the unexpected. Until one day, when the unexpected turned into the unbelievable.
The boy was making his rounds one sunny morning, peering over the fruits and vegetables, when Helga offered him a strawberry. He beamed, reached out for the piece of fruit, and then yelped when the berry burst from his hand, transforming into a flittering hummingbird.
Those wide eyes turned to saucers as he watched the bird fly off, leaving its strawberry brothers behind in their basket. The look he flashed at the berry farmer was one of deep disturbance and the boy disappeared on the spot, leaving the rest of the vendors to grapple with what should have been impossible.
They didn’t see the boy for days, and the farmers would have reveled in the much-desired calm, but the mystery behind the hummingbird still sat fresh in their memories. But then one morning, the vendors all held a collective breath as the little boy marched down the street, directly to the town square, with a little jingling satchel in hand.
He went straight to the strawberry stand, meeting Helga with a determined stare and a gold coin in his outstretched hand. She tentatively accepted the strange looking currency and nervously handed over a basket of berries, flinching as he reached out to collect his purchase.
The boy looked at his basket, then back to Helga, and grabbed a handful of strawberries. Just like before, the berries erupted into delicate little hummingbirds and flew off through the village. The boy puffed his chest out at his accomplishment and his eyes surveyed the other booths, looking for his next victim.
The farmers were in a state of shock. Possibly a shared psychosis that could only be explained by spending a little too much time under the summer sun. They waited patiently as the boy decided who would receive his next gold coin.
It ended up being Daniel, the cabbage farmer, who watched in awe as his heads of lettuce transformed into a swarm of skittish squirrels with just a light touch of the young boy’s hand.
One by one, the strange little boy purchased, transformed, and set free an entire zoo’s worth of animals. More than one weary eye drifted to the town’s church lingering above them, wondering what kind of miracle or devil’s work they might be witnessing.
And then, he left, a litter of kittens and rabbits following in his wake.
Four years later, the boy with messy hair and glasses (that definitely now fit his face) sat in the Hogwarts dungeons with three other boys, cleaning out cauldrons.
“Bloody infuriating that they took our wands, don’t you think, James?” said the boy with longer hair and sharp features. He lazily scrubbed the same spot on his cauldron over and over, even though it had become clean ages ago.
“Don’t be daft, Sirius,” said James, pushing his glasses up his nose with the back of his hand. “We aren’t allowed our wands in detention, otherwise we’d have this washing done in a minute.”
“My mum says doing things the Muggle way builds character,” added the third boy, tucking his sandy bangs behind his ears.
“Well Remus,” responded the fourth boy with watery eyes, “the rest of us grew up not ever having to do it the Muggle way. Maybe since you’re most used to it, you can take care of the rest of these cauldrons for us.”
“Bugger off, Peter,” said Remus, throwing a very dirty washcloth and hitting Peter square in the face.
The four boys laughed together before getting back to their scrubbing.
“Oh, look who it is,” came a sneering voice from the doorway of the Potions classroom. “Potter and his gang of cowardly lions. What is this, the third detention you lot have had this week?”
“Shove off, Snivellus,” spat Sirius, throwing up a few choice fingers at the greasy-haired boy.
“Come on, Sev, don’t bother with them,” came a softer voice from behind the boy.
“Is that Evans?” called James, his interest piquing. He ran his hand through his hair, forgetting how much grime had coated his fingers during the course of the detention. When the red head girl peaked out behind her friend to see James picking out dirt from his fringe, she giggled.
“Potter, it looks like you’ve been rolling around in the mud with Hagrid’s pigs,” she said with a teasing grin. Severus shifted next to her, his eyes flashing at her playful tone.
“That might be so,” laughed James with his signature lopsided smile, “but at least I’m still not half as greasy as Snivellus, here.”
Severus turned bright red and reached into his robe pocket to draw his wand. “Lutum!” he shouted, and a thick layer of dirt coated the piles of freshly cleaned cauldrons.
The boys jumped up in outrage, but Severus had a wand and they were defenseless.
“This is bollocks!” barked Sirius, a dangerous shadow crossing his face.
“Tough luck,” smirked Severus, turning back to Evans with a smug look across his face. “Come on, Lily, let’s go practice our Pepper Up potions.” And with one last smarmy look, he led her into another classroom across the hallway.
“That’s not fair,” whined Peter, looking at his now-dirty cauldron.
James still stared at the doorway where Severus and Evans stood just a moment before. “Well, we’re not going to let him get away with that.”
“But we don’t have our wands,” pointed out Remus, who had gone back to patiently scrubbing his own cauldron.
“I have a plan,” said James simply.
“Mate, I think Remus has a point,” Sirius said with a huff. “What could you possibly do to Snape? We’re just a bunch of wandless first years.”
“Look boys,” said James confidently, “In another life… I arranged a number of operations of… questionable legality. I learned some skills back then that may prove useful in our current hour of need.”
Sirius, Remus, and Peter stared at him, matching dumbfounded expressions on their faces.
James stood and surveyed the dirty cauldrons around him and looked at his hands. He took a deep breath.
In theory, he knew what he had to do. It was just a matter of concentrating. Focusing on a goal and letting the magic burst through his fingers. There weren’t any fruits or vegetables in the dungeons, but that shouldn’t matter. Maybe when James was younger, when his imagination ran a little wilder and his grasp on transfiguration wasn’t quite as strong, he believed that animals were stuck inside strawberries and ears of corn. But James was a wizard in training now. With a few months of transfiguration under his belt, he knew that any object could become anything new.
So he paced back and forth, letting himself fall back into the mindset of being a little boy sneaking out of his family’s cottage while his parents were busy reading that morning’s copy of the Daily Prophet. He remembered the thrill of running off to the village, just as independent as any other adult visiting the market, and marching up to the stalls of fruits and vegetables and honey. He could almost smell the freshly baked bread, see the kind smiles of the farmers’ wives as they ruffled his hair and sent him off with fresh apples and oatmeal cookies.
He let himself live in those not-so-distant memories and channeled all their warmth to his fingertips as he reached out and touched the nearest cauldron.
With a flash, it became a potbelly pig.
“Bloody hell!” shouted Peter.
“Merlin’s beard!” laughed Sirius.
“Holy shit,” gasped Remus.
James sent them a crooked smile, cracked his knuckles, and swiftly got to work touching every dirty cauldron in the dungeon.
The piglets squeaked with wild energy, dripping in mud and looking for somewhere to run. And James had just the place.
He led his parade of piglets through the classroom, out the hallway, and opened up the door across the way where Severus and Evans had gone to practice their potion-making. The pigs stormed into the room with excited squeals which only intensified by Lily’s and Severus’ screaming as the pigs swarmed them.
“Sorry Evans,” shouted James over the sea of oinking, “you’re collateral damage here! My apologies for the smell, but I assume you’re used to a bit of stench hanging out with Snivellus all day!”
Once all the pigs had crammed into the classroom, trapping Lily and Severus in the far corner surrounded by muddy hogs, James quickly closed the door and the rest of the boys helped drag over a heavy bookshelf to barricade the entryway.
They grinned at each other, quite pleased by their success, and made their way back to the scrubbing brushes and washcloths.
“Well boys,” said James, his hand finding his way back to his hair, “I don’t see any more dirty cauldrons, do you?”
The others shook their heads in glee.
“Then I guess it’s back to Gryffindor Tower for us!”
And with that, they raced out of the dungeons, snickering at the shouts of their classmates, overpowered by the squealing of dozens of potbelly pigs.

Hey, I love your writing! Could you please write one where it’s slytherin! Sirius and gryffindor!james. Can you make it that they find out their mates like they have creature inherences ( since their both pure bloods). At Hogwarts btw if it was unclear. Don’t feel pressured to write this if you’re busy.
((A/N: I’ve never written creature inheritance before, so it’s a little choppy))
Personally, Sirius thought this whole thing was a load of shite. Not like it was fake, because it was definitely real, but it was an absolute pain in the arse. It was going through puberty again, and he'd hated it the first time, thanks. And also? This was worse. He felt like a bloody toddler again, unable to control his magic. It's not like it was lashing out at random or summat, but his spells rarely turned out the way he wanted. Too much power or not enough, and he never knew which way it would go.
Regulus kept assuring him that he'd be ecstatic when he finally settled and got his creature inheritance, but Sirius would prefer to just be comfortable now. Besides, the only creature in the Black line was Veela. Sirius had too many people staring at him without adding a magical element to it. Did he mention the whole process was shite? Because it was. In addition to his magic not responding like it should, his entire scalp itched and his eyes responded to any big change in lighting with pain and his gums ached like a fucker. It made eating ridiculously difficult, and it had been that way for three weeks straight. It was supposed to all even out on his birthday, but that didn't make it any less miserable to live through.
He would love to commiserate about it with someone, but there were only a few other people in Hogwarts that had the possibility for a creature inheritance, and he wasn't exactly friends with any of them. He wasn't friends with anyone other than Regulus actually, so commiserating-- if it was going to happen at all-- would have to wait a few years.
When Sirius got his creature inheritance-- gasp! Veela! what a surprise!-- he walked into the Great Hall and wanted to walk right back out again. He didn't really know how to control the allure. Make that, the allure was running rampant and he couldn't make heads or tails of it-- the fire throwing part had been easy; he hadn't even had to practice-- but even that wasn't enough to make him want to leave. He took one glance at the Gryffindor Table, saw one James Potter, and realised there was a connection.
His parents had sent him a book about Veela inheritances when he started showing signs, and there had been a section on mates. Recognizable on sight. And that's what James Potter was. Sirius had two words for that: 'hell' and 'no'. It's not like Potter was bad looking or an unforgivable arse, but he didn't exactly like any Slytherins, and Sirius was one. He knew that mates weren't something that could be avoided, but how the hell did he explain that to Potter? 'Hi, I know the most time we've spent together was in detention from hexing each other for like, the entirety of fourth year, but you're bloody gorgeous and also we're mates? Wanna hook up sometime? Maybe spend the rest of our lives together?' Yeah. That wouldn't go well.
Sirius wished he could leave-- after all, who needed breakfast every single day?-- but there were appearances to keep up, and everyone would give him shite if he left right now. He was supposed to not act any different now that he had his creature inheritance. He was supposed to pretend he felt the same and didn't think he was better than anyone and all that rot. Nevermind that Sirius had thought he was better than everyone else from the age of five.
He didn't bother to keep in a sigh as he walked to the Slytherin Table.
"What?" Regulus asked, because of course Regulus was with him-- just to be clear: not complaining.
"Everyone's staring."
"Of course they are. You're the first wizard to get a creature inheritance at Hogwarts in the last decade."
"Hooray," Sirius said flatly. "I'll just pose for photos then, shall I?"
"There's no need to be a prick."
"How long have you known me?"
Regulus rolled his eyes, which was pretty much the response that Sirius had expected.
*
Sirius might have stared at James. A lot. It wasn't his fault, okay? There was no ignoring your magic screaming at you to go be with someone, but Sirius refused to give in so easily-- just to give him something to do, his classes were kind of boring right now.
So he stared, but he didn't talk to James. Maybe he should make friendly chit-chat between classes so that they had a foundation other than rivalry and the other person being gorgeous. And okay, it's not like they were total strangers, but being friendly with each other wasn't something they were familiar with. Like he said, rivalry.
He got caught by James one time in the corridor, but he didn't bother to pretend like he hadn't been staring. It was only the two of them, after all. An empty corridor was a rare thing this close to the Great Hall, but not so surprising this time since it was dinnertime. They were probably the only people not eating right now.
"Is there a reason you're looking at me all the time?" James asked.
"Yes," Sirius said and didn't elaborate.
As expected, James looked bewildered. "Are you going to tell me why?"
"No. What were you in the library for?"
"Books," James said. He was trying to make his voice flat, but it was obvious to Sirius that he was hiding something.
He cocked his head curiously-- an unfortunate habit he'd picked up since his creature inheritance, replacing his usual skeptical eyebrow raise. "For what?"
He shifted, holding his bag tighter like he thought Sirius would snatch them from three meters away. "Nothing," he muttered unconvincingly.
"C'mon, who am I going to tell?"
"Stop mocking me."
"I wasn't aware that was something I was doing."
James glared at him.
It was probably the mate part of him that found it attractive, but Sirius had never had the smartest taste when it came to men. "Honestly. It was an innocent question."
"So you weren't staring at me because you... y'know, know?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Sirius said honestly.
James sighed, relaxing from the somewhat rigid posture he'd been holding. "That's good. Or- I guess bad? If you knew, I could ask- but no, we're not friends."
"What's got you in a spin?"
James chewed on his lip.
Sirius's heart beat a little harder in his chest at seeing that-- his imagination was more than happy to provide him with ideas about James's mouth-- but he was going to ignore that for the moment. There were more pressing matters, like what the hell James was talking about. "Honestly, who would I tell?"
"Your brother."
"Right, but who would he tell?" Regulus didn't have any friends either. Their parents had made a point to tell them that they could only trust family, and now look at them. "And who would care?"
"Most people care about creature inheritances. You should've heard the way everyone fawned over you when you presented."
Sirius snorted. "Yeah, I have eyes, love; I'm well aware of how much attention people were paying me." Then, because it was more important, he said, "So that's what this is? You're coming into a creature inheritance too?"
"No," he said instantly, then he shifted. "Maybe. I dunno, that's what the books are for. I thought you could, like, tell from looking at me or summat."
"I don't have a creature sensor."
"Well how was I supposed to know that?" James asked defensively. "Nobody knows anything about creature inheritances unless they have it, and then they keep it in the family because it's personal. It's not like I could just ask you."
"Couldn't you ask your parents? Like you said, it's a family matter."
"There's no history of it in the Potter line. Whoever was a creature that married in? They never recorded it. I went over the bloody family tree with a fine tooth comb, and I came up blank."
"I don't know how much help I'd be. Different families, different creatures," Sirius said, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the wall.
"I don't need specifics, but- Merlin, did it buggering itch like this for you? I feel like I'm going to crawl out of my skin."
"Can't say that happened to me, no. Mostly it felt like my teeth were about to fall out."
"Right," James said, nodding, "Veela have fangs."
Sirius cocked his head again. "Most people don't know that."
James blushed. It wasn't very noticeable, but Sirius had eyes on him-- he had a theory that he had enhanced eyesight specifically when it came to his mate, but there was nothing to verify that; it just felt like he was capable of noticing more about him since becoming a creature. "I've done some research."
Sirius hummed, smiling.
*
"Nice wings," Sirius said, trying to keep from looking overly delighted.
One of James's wings snagged against a suit of armor because he'd been walking too close to the wall. "They're a pain in the arse," he muttered, flushing bright red as he tried-- and failed-- to get himself out.
Sirius walked over and stepped behind him. It was a lot easier to do it from this angle. Push, nudge, and he was free. "I kind of thought your wings would be red."
James turned to face him, and Sirius had to step back or risk getting hit in the head with a wing. "Why? Because I'm in Gryffindor?"
"That, and because you look so good in it. I'm not sure black is your colour."
"I look great in black, and you know it," James said.
He did, but Sirius wasn't about to say that. "Do these things not go away?" Sirius asked, looking at the wings curiously. This was the first time he'd seen him since his birthday, and it was no exaggeration to say that James had never looked better. Ill-coloured wings aside. It's not like the black feathers made him look bad or summat, but red would look better.
"If they do, I haven't figured out how." Then James squinted at him. "Did you change your hair?"
"No? It's the same it always is." Which is to say, fabulous. But he hadn't changed it at all. When he'd become a Veela- oh, maybe that's what it was. It had looked different to him in the mirror after that, but Regulus had said he didn't notice anything. "It did change on my birthday though. Maybe you can finally see it."
James reached out, strands of Sirius's hair sliding through his fingers. "It's beautiful," he breathed.
"I get that a lot," Sirius managed to say while sounding normal, but all he wanted to do was step closer and lean into it.
*
Unsurprisingly, James was the one to kiss him first. Sirius kept wanting to, but he also kept chickening out. So it wasn't really a surprise that James made the first move. What was a surprise, was about a month into their relationship-- still a month away from the end of the school year-- and James stopped a rather delightful snog to say, "Does this seem kind of sudden to you?"
"Er, no, we had to sit through like ten hours of class in order to get here."
James chuckled, pressing leisurely kisses to his cheek and down his neck. "No, I mean..."
"You mean?" Sirius prodded when he didn't continue, running his hands down James's back and into his wings. His fingers worked on straightening his feather automatically.
"I dunno. Like, I always fancied you, but after my creature inheritance, it's like I couldn't take my eyes off you."
"I know what you mean. Probably the whole 'mate' thing."
Abruptly, James stopped what he was doing and tilted his head up to look at him. "What mate thing?"
"That creatures have." When James still looked confused, he added, "Because we're mates?"
"Like... soulmates?"
"I guess? There wasn't a whole lot of information about it in the books my parents sent me. I don't think they thought I'd meet my mate at Hogwarts." Sirius snickered. "Their heads would explode if they knew it was you."
"Wait," James said, sitting up, "you knew about this?"
"Er, yeah?"
"Since your birthday?"
"Yeah."
James looked upset, which Sirius didn't understand in the slightest. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Sirius sat up when it was clear that James wasn't willing to let this slide. "Because we weren't exactly friends? You say that you fancied me back then, but it sure as hell didn't look like it. What was I supposed to do? I wasn't going to walk up to you and say we were destined for each other. You would've hexed me."
"I would not have."
"Sure," Sirius said flatly.
"Alright, so I might have overreacted if you told me, but it's not like you wouldn't have too in my place."
"Is there a reason this is bothering you?" Sirius asked. "It all worked out. I didn't trick you into anything by not telling you."
James opened his mouth to answer, then paused and frowned. "That's true," he said, sounding a touch bewildered. "I mean, this goes both ways, doesn't it? You didn't tell me, and I didn't tell you when I first noticed something was going on so..."
"So we can keep kissing?" Sirius said hopefully.
"You're so bloody weird."
"That sounds like a yes."
James snickered. "It's a yes."
*
"Woah," James said, eyes wide.
Sirius may or may not have snarled unkindly at being woken up before he was ready. "Sorry," he muttered. It was a gut reaction to flash his fangs when he wasn't happy, and when he was tired, it just sort of happened. He yawned, fangs retracting.
"I didn't know you could do that."
"Mm."
"Really though, you have to get up. You'll get caught if you leave any later."
"Don't care," Sirius said, snuggling his face into the pillow.
"You told me to make sure you get up."
"Past-me was an idiot."
"I trust past-you more than tired-you."
Sirius opened one eye to glare at him. When that did nothing, he turned to pouting. "Are you really going to throw me out?"
"Using your allure is A. cheating and B. not going to work."
"I should date someone who's nicer to me," Sirius grumbled, slowly pushing himself up with another yawn.
James snorted. "You have fun with that." He nuzzled at Sirius's cheek before giving him a quick kiss.

I am happy to give you ideas! Please supply me with your brilliant writing! I need a bedtime story! Maybe Sirius getting pretty badly injured at a game? Re's reaction and then him helping with recovery?🥰
Okay this ones a little unrealistic probably but I was looking up injuries in hockey and this came up multiple times so yeah. (Also I got so carried away with this one. I literally lagged my phone with how long this ended up being. There’s defiantly going to be multiple parts because I wrote too much and Tumblr won’t let me write more
Warning : Injury, panic attack?, heart problems, mentions of child abuse
“You okay?” James asked Sirius.
“Yeah, I just feel-off. I guess.”
James nodded, still concerned about the pained look on his face.
He stood up to go tell Remus when Sirius collapsed.
Remus jumped over beach to get to him. The other players on the bench crowding around him.
“What happened?” James screamed.
They could hear the announcer talking about the commotion on the bench. Everyone on the ice skating over and shouting questions. The stadium filled with quiet whispers.
Remus’s mind went blank. He went into the medic routine, not thinking about the fact that it was the love of his life on the ground.
“He’s in cardiac arrest” Moody told them.
“He’s 24” Logan exclaimed.
“DAMN IT GET A MEDIC NOW” Dumo shouted. All of them screamed for a medic as Moody cut off his jersey and gear and Remus began CPR
“WHERE THE HELL IS THE MEDIC HES DYING” Kasey screamed. This sent a shock through the crowd.
The medics appeared and pushed everyone out of the way, only Moody was allowed on the bench with him.
“NO. HE’S DYING AND YOURE NOT HELPING HIM” James tried to fight them.
“Stops, Stop” Remus put a shaking hand on his chest. “Let them work. Let them help him. Please James, I’m begging you to let them help him” his voice shook.
James nodded, backing away from the bench.
Dumo went over to stand near Remus. “What are you thinking right now?” He asked him, knowing that it was pointless to ask if he was okay.
“That I don’t want to lose him. I don’t want to lose him” Remus told him honestly. “My biggest fear is him getting hurt or leaving me and now he’s hurt and could be leaving me forever”
Dumo wrapped his arms around Remus, who’s breathing picked up as he thought about Sirius dying.
“Breathe, breathe Loops” He waved over Leo to help calm him down.
“Hey, hey. I know you’re fucking terrified right now. I can’t even imagine what I would do if it was one of my boys but you need to try and breathe Remus. You’re no help to Sirius if you’re panicking. Respirer, Remus”
He nodded, taking deep breathes.
“Good, good.” Leo nodded.
“If he d-”
“No, we’re not thinking about that right now” Dumo cut him off.
“His heart stopped” Remus began to remember bits and pieces of the last few minutes. Remembered checking for a pulse and telling Moody there wasn’t one. “His heart wasn’t beating. He was dead”
The rest of the players were standing around in terror.
They all went quiet as they tried to process what he said, they could hear the medics counting off numbers for the defibrillator.
Alice and Frank were quieting the stadium while trying to figure out what was happening.
The other team, the Hufflepuff Badgers skated over.
“What happened?” one of the players asked.
“Apparently cardiac arrest.” Adam Fox told him.
“He’s young though, isn’t he?”
“Yeah. Yeah he is” Finn said sadly.
A stretcher ran past them, loading Sirius onto it.
His skin was the color of snow. His black hair a stark contrast where it fell into his closed eyes. Remus wanted nothing more than to tuck it behind his ear like he’s done hundreds of times. His jersey and gear had been completly removed. A medic was on the stretcher, preforming CPR as they rushed him off the ice and into the waiting ambulance.
Remus shook his head and covered his mouth, tears streaming down his face. James turned him around and hugged him. The entire team gathered around them in a huge hug.
The Hufflepuffs made a circle around them, all of them with their hands on their neighbors shoulder and head down.
They stayed that way for a while before refs told them that the game was over. Their coaches wanted them in their locker rooms. They nodded and pulled away.
The Hufflepuff players patted all their backs and told them they would pray for Sirius.
It was silent as they walked into the locker room.
Remus walked over and sat in Sirius’s stall. He jolted as he realized that they wind of had to cut his necklace off.
But his eyes drifted to the wall of his stall. A small nail in the back corner had the ‘12’ necklace hanging from it. With a post it beside it that read “Re, promise I still love it. Just can’t stand the thought of it getting broken. I love you.”
He smiled sadly, reaching over and took the necklace off the makeshift hook. He couldn’t hold back his sobs any longer.
“He’s going to be okay. He has to be okay.” James cried beside him.
Coach Weasley walked in a few minutes later. “They’re trying to stabilize him and get him on a ventilator. They’re thinking about surgery to put in an ICD”
“ICD? What the hell is that?”
“It’s a device that will monitor his heart rate and shock it if it beats irregularly” Remus explained.
“Like a pacemaker?”
“No pacemakers force your heart to beat. ICDs just monitor it and help if something goes wrong”
“Can he still play?”
“He will be able to if he chooses to but he’s out for the rest of the season. The league can’t risk it.” Coach told them.
“He’s 24 years old. How can you go into cardiac arrest at 24 years old?” Olli asked.
They all looked to Remus for the answer.
“He’s an athlete and works out religiously. Too much exercise can sometimes cause the left heart valve to overwork. He told me that when he was younger his parents wouldn’t let him or Regulus sleep. Making them practice on their rink until morning or they collapsed.”
“Jesus Christ they need to be in jail.” Logan gasped.
“Or hell” James requested.
“The second options much better” Kasey said. “I volunteer to help send them there”
“All of you get dressed to go to the hospital.” Arthur told them, not even commenting on their murder plans.
The team had never changed so quickly.
“Remus, you’re driving over with me.” Dumo told him, Remus just nodded.
“What if he’s not okay?” Remus broke the silence in the car. “I know everyone’s saying he will be but what if he’s not? Realalistic he’s not going to be okay”
“Then we deal with it if that happens. No one knows what’s going to happen. None of us know how to prepare for a teammate to die. So all we can do is wait”
“I can’t lose him Pascal. I don’t think I can live without him.”
Dumo didn’t respond, just reached over and placed a hand on the back of his neck, squeezing slightly. Partly because he wanted to comfort him and partly because he knew it was true.
***
The hospital was quiet as they all waited for news. Some of them sitting on the uncomfortable chairs, a few of them pacing.
“Can all of you stop” Sergio told them, getting annoyed with the footsteps.
“No we’re stressed out so we’re not going to sit” Finn rolled his eyes at him.
“It’s annoying” Kasey told them.
“Too bad. Deal with it” James rolled his eyes.
They argued for a few minutes before Remus snapped.
“KNOCK IT OFF” he barked. “My boyfriend is in there dying or already dead and you’re fighting because footsteps are annoying you.”
They all quieted and sat down.
Lily and Natalie walked into the waiting room a few minutes, tears on their faces.
James and Kasey stood up to hug them.
“What’s going on? What happened? No one knows anything.” Natalie asked.
“What did you see?” Dumo asked as Celeste walked in.
Lily pulled away from the hug she was in with Remus. “Me and Nat were watching the game. And then they panned over to the bench where you were crowded around someone on the ground, one of you tipped over the bench so there was more room and the arena got quiet. Then Dumo was shouting for a medic and Kasey shouted that someone was dying. And the crowd started screaming. Then medics ran over and made all of you clear out and James was screaming something at them. Then Dumo went over to Remus and they said that they think it’s Sirius but they don’t know what happened and then he was wheeled out on a stretcher with someone doing CPR. The the game was over. And the announcers just talked for the rest of the time trying to figure out what happened and replaying everything. They talked to Hufflepuff players but they said it wasn’t their place to explain.” She told them.
“Sirius went into cardiac arrest” James told them.
“Oh god” Celeste gasped.
“Remus I’m so sorry” Lily breathed, pulling him in for another hug.
Nat had more tears falling down her face. “Did they say how he was?”
Dumo shook his head.
They sat down. Lily sitting between James and Remus. Remus’s head on her shoulder as she held James’s hand.
No one knew how long they sat there for before a doctor walked over to them. They all stood up.
“How is he?” Remus asked, terror coursing through his body at the sober look on the doctors face.
“He’s stable.” Remus breathed for the first time in hours.
“His heart did stop multiple times so we ended up having to insert the ICD you were told about. He’s still not awake due to the medication. He’s allowed one visitor for now.”
They all nodded at Remus.
“You were lucky. If you hadn’t reacted like you did we wouldn’t of been able to save him.”
The doctor gave him Sirius’s room number and the overview of directions to get there before leaving.
Lily kissed his cheek and squeezed his hand. “Go see him.”
Remus just nodded and walked down the hospital hallway. He took a shaky breath as he walked into Sirius’s room. But none of it prepared him for it.
A bandage was around his chest and over his shoulder, protecting the stitches underneath. Too many wires were starched to him. Remus walked over to the chair and pulled it up beside him.
“Hi baby” he said as he grabbed his hand gently. Kissing his knuckles.
“I know you can’t hear me but I need you to wake up. I need to hear your voice and see your pretty eyes, okay. I need to know that you’re here and I’m not going to lose you. Please baby.” He begged. Reaching up with the hand not holding Sirius’s to brush the hair out of his face.
“I love you. I love you” he repeated, kissing his forehead. “Please wake up”
Time was water, Remus was drowning in it. Knowing he couldn’t do anything except wait.
Finally, Sirius’s hand twitched in his.
Remus stood up. Watching Sirius blink his eyes open, squinting at the bright hospital light.
“Hey, hey baby” Remus smiled at him, his eyes filled with hears as he looked into Sirius’s grey ones.
Sirius came to his sense and jolted, his eyes going wide and making a machine beep once.
“Shh, shh, shh. You’re okay. You’re okay” he ran a hand through his hair.
A nurse quickly entered the room, the beeping of the machine probably alerting them.
“Oh, you’re awake” she smiled. “I’m just going to check your vitals real quick.”
“What happened?” He asked.
“You, uh, you went into cardiac arrest during the game” Remus told him.
“Can I still play?”
Remus laughed “You just almost died and literally died multiple times and that’s what you ask. And yes you still can once you’re healed but you’ll be out for the rest of the season to recover and give you’re heart time to rest”
“Wait so I had a heart attack?”
“No. You’re heart stopped.”
“Why?” Sirius’s asked. Sticking his arm out for the nurse to pull out an IV that wasn’t needed anymore.
“You exercise too much love” Remus smiled at him.
“That can cause my heart to stop?” He asked the nurse.
“Yes. You overwork it when it beats too fast while you work out. Eventually it gives out.” She explained.
“Oh, can it happen to the other guys?” He asked, concerned.
“It’s rare.” The nurse shook her head. “And from the looks of it, the excessive exercise goes back to your childhood”
“Baise mes parents”
“Fuck your parents is correct. I’m pretty sure the guys are plotting a murder plan in the waiting room” he joked.
“Good”
“I’ll leave you two to plot a murder alone” the nurse smiled before leaving the room.
“I like her, she seems nice” Sirius told him, still a tiny bit loopy from the meds.
“Yeah she does seem nice” Remus smiled.
“Are you okay?” Sirius squeezed his hand.
“Don’t worry about me”
“Too bad I’m going too anyway.”
Remus smiled sadly. “You terrified me baby. I thought I was going to lose you.”
“I’m right here, mon amour”
“I know you are. I just... realized I can’t live without you.”
“And you won’t have too. Now lean down so I can kiss you”
Remus giggled and leaned down, letting Sirius kiss him. He kissed back. It wasn’t a deep kiss but Remus poured everything into it. I love you. You scared me. I need you here with me. I love you more than anything. I can’t live without you.
“I love you” Sirius said when they pulled away.
“I love you too”
Remus sat back down as the doctor knocked on the door.
“You’re teams driving me insane.” He smiled.
“Yeah they do that a lot” Sirius told him.
“Alright, don’t let them hug you and mess up your stitches, I already told them that but I don’t think they’ll listen.”
Sirius nodded. “Am I allowed to sit the bed up. My backs hurting from laying down”
“Yes you can. Just not too far.” He told him before leaving to go get some of the team.
Remus helped him move the bed up. Kissing his forehead when he was sitting up.
“I love you” he muttered against it.
“Love you too” Sirius responded.
Remus knew he had told him that a lot today but if that was all he could said for the rest of his life he would mind.
A few minutes James, The Cubs, Dumo, Celeste, Natalie, and Lily burst into the room.
“Oh merci putain tu es en vie” James gasped.
“I am alive” Sirius laughed.
“If you die again I’ll kill you”
“That’s not at all how it works” Remus told him.
“I’ll make it work”
“We’re glad you’re okay. You scared us for a while there” Dumo told him.
“One could say you have us a heart attack” James smirked.
“Oh my god that was the worse joke I have ever heard in my life” Sirius groaned with a laugh.
“I think it was a pretty good one, si je le dis moi-même”
The girls all kissed his cheek and then scattered across the room to find a place to sit.
“So, what exactly happened?” Sirius asked them.
“You just looked...bad. Like you were pale and kept wincing and rubbing your chest. So I went to tell Remus to check to make sure you were okay and you completely collapsed.” James told him.
“Everyone was around you, Moody and Remus were trying to figure out what happened and the medics were taking forever. We screamed for them but they still took too long. Moody said you were in cardiac arrest and started CPR” Leo picked up.
“They made us go onto the ice so they could work on you. Moody and Coach were the only one allowed on the bench. Remus was freaking out and so was everyone else. The Hufflepuff team came over and we told them what happened. And then they wheeled you out on a stretcher” Logan continued.
“What does everyone know?”
“Just that it was you that it happened too. They were doing CPR on you when you were rushed out. They asked the other team what happened but they said it wasn’t their place to tell. Coach said they’ll have to release a statement in a few. He’ll come back and talk to you about it in a little.” Dumo told him.
“What treatment did I get?”
“You were on a ventilator for a litttle while they were trying to stabilize you.” Remus explained. “Once you were stable for a while they did a surgery to place an ICD in your chest. It’s a small device that will monitor your heartrate and heart beat. If something happens it will send a shock through your heart. I don’t know much else about it so the doctor will have to explain it.”
“But I can still play with it in?”
“Yes. You can still play.” Remus smiled.
“Good” he said with a nod.
“Why is your biggest concern hockey after you just died?” Dumo asked.
“Because it is”
“You’re impossible, you know that?” Remus laughed, kissing his temple.
“When can I leave the hospital?”
The others shared looks.
“What? How long?”
“Cardiac arrest is really serious baby” Remus told him.
“How long?” He repeated firmly.
“A month”
“What? But I’m perfectly fine” he exclaimed.
“I know you are but that’s just for right now.” Remus told him. “But 40% of people die within a year after cardiac arrest”
Sirius threw his head back against the pillow.
“I’m sorry, baby”
“Fuck my parents”
“We have the murder planned” Kasey told him.
“You’re the one to kill them” Natalie added.
“Good”
“No one is killing anyone. But if it’s okay with you, we can tell people about it and the reason your heart stopped.” Remus told him.
“I’ll have to call Reg about it. Ask him about it or I can say that he was the favorite child so they didn’t do anything to him.”
Remus nodded. “You’re parents have to pay for what they did” he said as he moved the piece of hair that won’t stay out of his face.
“Yeah” The coversation was cut off as the nurse from before walked in.
“How are you feeling?” She asked.
“I’m okay, my chest is a little sore but it doesn’t like, hurt-hurt” he told her.
Everyone tensed before she responded with a nod.
“With the surgery and multiple rounds of CPR, you probably will be for a while. If it gets more than sore tell us right away” she said as she checked his blood pressure.
Sirius nodded and squeezed Remus’s hand, it was still tensed up. He tugged on it lightly. Remus stood up and kissed the corner of his mouth. Relaxing immediately.
“Alright, vitals are good. Dr. Hudson will be in soon to talk about further treatment.” She told him, closing the door as she left.
Sirius reaches for his necklace subconsciously, jolting forward when he couldn’t feel it.
“I have it. You took it off so it would break on the ice. Remember?” Remus pulled it out of his pocket.
Sirius nodded, sitting up to let Remus clasp it around his neck.
“Good thing you took it off. They would of had to cut it off it you hadn’t.”
Sirius nodded, relaxing as he fidgeted with it.
Dr. Hudson walked in a few moments later.
The team stood up, promising to be back later.
“Alright” he pulled up a chair. “So you’re going to be staying here for a month. Just so that we can monitor you and make sure that your ICD works like it should. If you go into cardiac arrest or have any other heart issues we’ll have to keep you hear longer. 40% of people discharged from the hospital after cardiac arrest die within a year.” He told them.
“So what do I do about hockey?” Sirius asked.
“That’s literally all you’re concerned about” Remus shook his head with a smile.
Dr. Hudson chuckled. “You’ll be able to play next year.”
“Next year” he exclaimed.
“Sorry but we have to make sure you won’t die again” he smiled at how upset he was.
“After you’re discharged from the hospital and you rest for 2 weeks you’ll be able to sit on the bench during practices and games.”
“Good I still get to yell at them” he smirked.
Remus and the doctor both laughed.
“Your Coach is going to be here in a few minutes. So I’ll leave you all to discuss what ever you need to discuss.”
They thanked him as he stood and left the room.
As sad, Coach Weasly entered a few minutes later with a guy in a suit. “This is Mr. Tela. He’s from the league and is going to make the formal statement” he told them.
Mr. Tela shook Remus’s hand before going to shake Sirius’s.
Sirius winced and sharply inhaled in pain when he at up and extended his arm. “Sorry, forgot I had stitches”
“Perfectly fine” Mr. Tela smiled.
“So what’s the statement going to be?” Sirius asked.
“We need to be careful to not not scare your fans. There’s already mass panic at the fact that Winters screamed that he was dying. And the fact that you where taken away with someone doing frantic CPRhas obviously made fans assume the worst.”
“When are you making the statement? Do I have to say anything or is the league going too?”
“The league will announce it. It’s been over 12 hours since it happened so we’ll have to announce it soon.”
Remus blinked. 12 hours. It felt like just minutes ago but at the same time it felt like years.
“What’s the statement going to say?” Remus asked.
“This is what we have for now. You two can add anything or ask for it to be removed.” He took out two pieces of paper that had the statement printed on it.
Gryffindor Lion Captain, 24 year old, Sirius Black collapsed during the Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff game last night. The reason for the collapse was cardiac arrest. Black was quickly rushed to the hospital where they were able to revive him. He will be hospital for the next few months. Sadly, he will be unable to play until next year to make sure his heart will be able to stay stable. The reason for the cardiac arrest is unknown as of now.
“Wait why aren’t we telling them the reason for it?” Sirius asked.
“We weren’t sure if you would want it to be known yet.” Mr. Tela said. “If you would like the reason to be included we can add it.”
“I’ll have to talk to my brother about it. See if he wants everyone to know how shitty out parents are.”
Mr. Tesla nodded. “We’ll give you sometime to do that. Just call or text your coach when you’ve made a decision and we’ll come back in and talk about what exactly to say.”
“Thank you” Sirius thanked him.
They stood and left the room.
“Merde, I don’t have my phone”
“Here” Remus pulled it out of his pocket. “Grabbed it from your bag.”
“I love you” Sirius smiled, leaning over and kissing him.
“I love you too. Now call your brother.”

The Bet
Pairing: Sirius Black x Reader
Summary: Sirius makes a bet with Mulciber to get you to date him and you find out.
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 2,292
“So, that’s all it was to you, huh? A bet?” you tried your best to hold yourself together. Not here, not now. The party had been in full swing. The music was loud but the only thing you could hear was the beating of your heart. You looked up to see those grey eyes. Those damn eyes you’d fallen for hard. Sirius came forward to place a hand on your cheek. You moved away.
“All that! The books, the music night all that was a fucking bet to you” you shouted. You dug your nails into the palm of your hand to stop the threatening tears to spill.
“Y/n I-“ Sirius tried to interject.
“How much was it?” you asked.
“Y/n”
“How much was it?” you pressed, your tone sharp.
“I-“
“Tell me!!” you screamed.
“5 galleons”
You tried to breathe. You snatched his hand and pulled him towards the center of the party. At this point you felt numb.
“Everyone!!” you used your wand to make your voice louder. When you had attention of enough people around you, you yanked Sirius’s arm and pulled him into a kiss. You could hear people cheering around you. You didn’t care now. You had never imagined your first kiss to be like this. You pulled away and saw Sirius’s shocked face. You whispered,
“There you go, you have your money. Now, you don’t ever have to see my face ever again.”
A single tear rolled down your cheek and you turned. You ran. You ran as fast as your feet could carry you to your dorm, your soft bed.
Never again; you promised yourself as you drenched the sheets until the tears dried and you fell asleep.
***
Sirius stood there shook. He couldn’t really process anything after you had kissed him with the crowd cheering on. Then you’d said the words that just broke him. You didn’t ever want to see him again. It hurt. Everything did. He dragged his feet towards his shared bedroom. He shut the door performing some silencing charms. He had fallen in love with you. He had been looking for the perfect moment to tell you so. That stupid bet. He had almost forgotten about it. He didn’t blame you though. He blamed himself, he was the reason you had finally broke, he made you cry. Tears rolled down his cheek, and he thought about his time with you.
You were sitting on the quidditch stands with a book so thick Sirius would never even think to pick up. He went towards you thinking about how he would pick you up. It never really took any effort from him to make anyone fall for him.
“Hi!” he said giving you his best smirk.
You looked up from your book raising an eyebrow at him, “Ummm… hello?” you said confused, surprising him. He masked his features quickly.
“What’s a pretty bird like you doing here?”
You raised your book in answer.
“What’s a playboy like you doing here?” you asked imitating his tone. This made him laugh. He now understood why Mulciber chose you for the bet. Not to say he wasn’t surprised, but he had always seen you being so sweet with everyone, he thought you won’t be much of a challenge.
“I was trying to pick you up, but it isn’t working somehow. Care to tell me what would?”
You rolled your eyes, finally smiling.
“Sorry to disappoint you, but I am not looking for a relationship in the near or distant future. And I do not do hookups.”
“I could change your mind about that.” Sirius said smirking.
“Highly doubt that.”
“I can” Sirius replied instantly.
“Let’s start simple shall we? I am Y/n and I don’t do the whole GF-BF thing. I would however love to be friends with you.”
Sirius let out a bark shaking Y/n’s hand. “I am Sirius and I would change your mind.”
Sirius sniffed, laying down on his four poster bed.
Sirius was running faster than he ever had. He laughed and tried to stop himself to roll out laughing. You were alongside him in the same predicament. He ran along the halls giggling and stopping from time to time to regain his composure. Both of you had carefully planned and drenched Mrs. Norris in pink paint, silver glitter and loads of sparkles. It’s hissing and spitting and irritated gestures was just worth the efforts. With filch chasing him and Y/n, and adrenaline coursing through his veins he couldn’t remember when he last felt so free.
“Sirius, “ you called out breathless. “I think we lost him”
He stopped taking in deep gulps of air looking at you doing the same. You looked at each other for a moment before bursting out laughing.
“Did you see-“
“And he was-“
“It’s face-“
“And screaming-“
Every sentence was punctuated by shot breaths, snorts and laughter. Sirius stared at you. You looked so beautiful, face all red from laughing too hard, trying to breathe. He didn’t know when he came so close. He could see every detail of your face, even count those pretty eyelashes. Merlin! He wanted nothing more than to kiss you. You turned suddenly plopping on the ground, looking at him smirking. Your eyes were full of mischief, letting him know that you knew what he was just wishing.
“Tease” Sirius said smirking.
Everything hurt. He wanted you, needed you. More tears fell as another memory came rushing in.
Sirius got another letter from his so called parents. He was done. Why couldn’t they understand they were being delusional. Never, his brain provided.
“Sirius !” your chirpy voice came in.
“Y/n not now. I want to be alone. Let me be!” he said his voice stern.
You didn’t say anything. You sat down next to him quietly. How did you even find him? You rummaged through your bag taking out some treacle tarts and offered them wordlessly. Sirius didn’t take any at first but after some time took some. Sirius sat with you munching on the delicious gooey chocolate looking out of the window. He expected you to say something but you never did. He liked it, if it would have been James or Remus they would have tried in their own ways to make him talk or do something to distract him. The silence right then was comfortable, peaceful even. How long they both sat there he did not know.
“I got a letter from my parents this morning.” He said when he felt relaxed. You looked at him folding your legs placing your face on your knees. He had told you about his family, their opinions, their hatred towards him.
“They said the usual things” Sirius let out a dry laugh. “I am a disgrace, bloodtraitor, hanging out with the scumbags and mudbloods.” He said, voice laced with disgust.
You patted his shoulders, the silence falling again.
“I am proud of you.” You said after some time. Sirius looked up at you confused.
“I can’t tell you lies Sirius. I refuse to tell you that your family would come along, would treat you differently than they are now, won’t join Voldermort during the war.”
Sirius’s eyes widened with every word you said.
“I applaud you for your bravery, looking past the things you were taught as a child, standing up for what’s right. I can only imagine what it must be like having a family that doesn’t love you. You know what they say; family is not made by blood, but by heart. I don’t think there is anything that James or Remus wouldn’t do for you. Their friendship is much greater than any blood tied relationship you could have. You also have me.” You let out a nervous laugh. “You have me. You could always come to me whenever you need anything. I care for you. In these last few weeks you have made a greater impact on me than any of my friends ever have and I would be damned if I let you go.”
You came forward and hugged him. It wasn’t much reassurance, Sirius knew but it was enough. Hearing that you cared about him made his heart swell. As he embraced you and right then he felt everything would be alright.
He ruined everything. He felt dirty. The dorm room opened as Remus came in. Sirius couldn’t even bring himself to wipe the tears.
“What happened?” Remus asked concerned. He sat down near Sirius’s feet.
“Did I ever tell you that I started talking to Y/n because of a bet?” Sirius asked his throat dry.
“Nooo? What did you do Sirius?” Remus asked. Sirius could feel the disbelief and anger behind Remus's voice. Y/n had fit in the group seamlessly after all. His friends loved her, then again, how could they not?
“I didn’t even remember it. Fuck- it started as a challenge but I really really like Y/n.”
“I know Sirius. I know.” Ofcourse, he did. Sirius spent the majority of his time nowadays asking James and Remus for advice on how to tell Y/n he loved her and ask her out on a date.
“Mulciber just came in the party today, and it sort of spilled out. I-“ Sirius’s voice cracked. “I tried to tell her, I really did, but she just couldn’t see through the bet. She- she asked me the amount of money, and took me to the middle of the room kissing me and told me to take the amount and never to see her again. What should I do Remus? I-” he couldn’t continue as he started crying.
“Hey! It’s okay. It’s okay, she’ll understand.” Remus consoled him rubbing his hand along his arms.
After Sirius fell quiet, Remus started to tell him what to do.
“You need to go Sirius, explain to her that it wasn’t fake. Don’t stop until she heard at least your side of the story. Maybe she would forgive you, maybe she won’t but then at least she would know what happened.”
Sirius nodded. He rushed towards the bathroom and washed his face. He came out and checked the marauders map to find you.
***
Incessant knocking woke you. You rubbed your eyes trying to find the source of the noise. Outside your window you saw Sirius standing on a broomstick trying to get your attention. You rushed and opened them. Sirius tumbled, almost falling. You caught him and pulled him inside.
“Are you crazy?!? Do you not know how dangerous it is to stand on a fucking broomstick 20 feet above the ground?” you asked the idiot standing in front of you.
“Y/n please, just give me one chance to explain myself, if you still hate me I would never disturb you again.”
You looked at him. You saw how pale his face had become, his eyes were red and his nose was blushed pink. He seemed he cried, a lot. So, you weren’t the only one hurt. You nodded for him to continue, too tired to form words.
“I made the bet with Mulciber about 4 months ago. He said I couldn’t have anyone I wanted and I said I would do anything to prove him wrong. He named you, maybe because he knew that you don’t date anyone. You were so sweet, I didn’t think of it much and agreed to it. I came to talk to you, flatter you, make you fall for me just as other girls did. Oh boy, was I wrong!” Sirius looked at you and you knew he wasn’t lying.
“Getting to know you was the best thing I ever did. I had long forgotten about the bet. Hell, I would pay him ten times the amount because without his interference, I would never have known about you. I love you Y/n and know when I say this, it was never fake, none of it, not since we sat in the library the first week of meeting you, with you telling me about charms that would help me do harmless pranks. I- I don’t want you to forgive me but please, please don’t break this friendship” Sirius told you, tears welling up in his eyes. You looked at him, finding nothing but sincerity.
“Don’t cry. I can’t see you crying and you know it” you croaked, not knowing when the tears had started falling down your face.
Sirius came forward and wiped away your tears. “I am sorry, so sorry.”
You sniffed, feeling an invisible weight lift of your shoulders.
“You love me, huh?” you said smirking, picking at the buttons of his shirt playfully. Sirius finally smiled.
Letting out a nervous laugh he said,” I do.”
He looked so vulnerable in the moment, you thought he would break. So, you did what you wanted for a long time. You kissed him. Not the way you had done at the party few hours ago, but with all the emotions you had- Softly, moving your lips along with his as if they were made to do so. Sirius sighed. He cupped your face as you let your hands wander in his dark locks. He pulled you closer, moving his tongue along your bottom lip. You opened your mouth and he slowly pushed his tongue in kissing you passionately. You were starting to feel a little dizzy headed but you couldn’t bring yourself to break the kiss. His tongue met yours and you moaned, making him groan in response. Both of you pulled away breathless.
“I love you too.” You said looking at him.
“I thought you didn’t do the whole GF-BF thing?” he said smirking.
“I would do it for you” you told him pulling him into another kiss.
A/N: Let me know what you think!

Claw Marks
Remus Lupin
No Pairing
Reader Insert - Gender Neutral.
Imagine: Remus finding out one of his students is a Werewolf.
Warnings: IDK...werewolves?
He hadn't picked up on it at first, too occupied with keeping his own 'condition' a secret and, more importantly, under control.
Remaining unknowingly oblivious to the subtle signs they'd been showing.
How fidgety and agitated they'd become around the time of the full moon, often lashing out for no reason - even at close friends. How they seemed incapable of staying awake during breakfast or morning classes. Of the often many fresh cuts that littered their skin. All signs went unnoticed.
Until one fateful day when it all seemed to crash over him like a bucket of ice water.
The class started as normal as any other Thursday; with the exception of Y/n needing to be awoken at their desk.
A sharp jab to their elbow was enough to send their arm off balance, chin falling from it's place against their palm, the sudden drop of y/ns head waking them with a slight fright.
"Thank you for that, Miss Bell. Good Morning, Y/n. I do wish you'd save all sleeping for Professor Binns class rather than before I've even begun my lesson." Remus says sarcastically. "Sorry Professor." Y/n mumbled in reply sitting at attention. "Excellent. Although thankfully, given today's topic, I don't believe any of you will be at risk of nodding off."
The class shared an amused chuckle while y/n merely managed a tight lipped smile.
There was a brief knock at the door as Professor Flitwick and Mr Filch entered the room with a large, rattling, wardrobe.
"Perfect timing!" Lupin spoke as the cupboard was deposited at the front of the class and the students were made to stand as the teachers cleared all their desks to the sides of the room. "Today, class, we will be learning about Boggarts."
After a quick introduction of what a Boggart is and how to repel one, the students were made to form a line. As the music carried out it's loud melody and their turn inevitably drew near y/ns body filled with dread.
They hesitated, not wanting to step any closer to the creature in fear their secret be revealed, but with a nudge from the person behind them and encouragement from Professor Lupin they did.
The Boggart took it's time analysing the new arrival before finally transforming. In it's place now stood a great snarling beast with glowing yellow eyes and gruesome, bared, teeth.
Y/n froze. As did many members of the class all of whom drew a sharp breath at the sight. It were truly terrifying.
Y/ns expression bore one of pure fear. Face turning pale as the blood rushed from their head. Shock took over Lupin as well, not having expected one of his students to produce a nightmare quite so frightening. The nightmare he were forcibly living.
Remus took a step forward readying to intervene as he noted the way y/ns wand arm shook in fear.
But to his surprise, with their eyes squeezing tightly shut and head turning back over their shoulder, y/n shouts quickly "Ridikulus!" casting the charm.
The approaching beast is suddenly changed; now in a vivid pink tutu, aimlessly cycling in circles on a miniature tricycle, the image completed by a multicoloured party hat upon it's head.
The previously stunned class erupts into a fit of laughter. The sound filling y/n with enough courage to look back at the scene playing out before them. An astonished and relieved sigh falls from their mouth before joining in and laughing with the class.
Lupin is beyond impressed, barely able to contain his excitement he yells, "BRILLIANT, Y/n! Truly brilliant! NEXT!" His joy however, is short lived as all that previous worry that'd clouded his mind is brought rushing back.
Y/n spun excitedly in place, smiling widely, their robes shifting with the momentum to reveal a large scar from the base of their neck, presumably, stretching right along to their shoulder as it traced their collarbone. Claw marks. Unmistakably - claw marks.
Lupins face drops briefly before he's quickly painting back on a fake smile. After that the signs weren't so subtle anymore.
Not wanting to get ahead of himself and draw wrong conclusions he confronts Dumbledore with his suspicions.
"Headmaster, I wondered if I might be able to have a word?"
"Of course, Remus. You may have more than one if you so desire." Dumbledore responds from his place at his desk, looking down over his half-moon glasses with a grin.
"It's about a student of my 5th year class...y/n y/l/n?" "Ah, yes." Lupin watches Albus expectantly but he does not continue so Remus does, "I couldn't help but notice they possess certain qualities that are remarkably similar to my own." Dumbledore nods in acknowledgement but remains silent. "Would I be out of my depth in assuming they-that they're..." "like you are?" The Headmaster finishes for him. Remus swallows thickly as he watches him intently.
"You would not. Be out of depth, that is. Y/n is indeed a Werewolf."
Remus takes a deep breath. He knew he was right in his assumptions but to hear it be confirmed is a different thing entirely. Like a truth one would never hope to be true. A flood of emotions overtakes him; some shock. Sympathy and sadness - as he knows what they are going through. And quite a bit of anger towards the man infront of him.
"You didn't think it necessary to inform me of this?" He glares. "That would have been against their, and their parents, wishes. When they told me of y/ns condition they were adamant in no one else knowing - less word spread, I agreed to respect their wish so I couldn't tell you. Were you to discover this on your own however-" "so you've just been sitting around waiting for me to piece the puzzle together?" "To be frank, Remus, I'm rather surprised it took you this long."
Anger and frustration are bubbling over in Lupin at this point as he turns his back on Albus. It's taking all his strength not to lash out at the old man like he desperately wants to.
"They're taking necessary precautions, Remus, if that is what's troubling you." "No, Headmaster. What's troubling me is that they are suffering with this condition on their own." He speaks through gritted teeth. "Yes, I have an idea of how unpleasant it must be." That comment alone pushes Remus' temper to it's limit.
"With all due respect, Albus..." he turns back to face him with daggers held behind his eyes, "you have no idea. You could not possibly imagine the difficulty of enduring the effects of lycanthropy - especially not at such a young age."
"Do you forget who assisted you in your transformations during school?"
"I do not, Professor. Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs helped me through every full moon. Although you may have offered a place to do so safely, you did not assist me in my change. It were James, Sirius and Peter who were there for me. And if what you say is true - that you are the only person in this school who knows - y/n doesn't even have that. A fact of which I am truly sorry for."
Not waiting for a response Remus storms from Dumbledores office.
As the next full moon approaches Remus prepares himself for the night. Locking himself in his office and drinking the Wolfsbane potion Severus prepared for him to make the change a little easier.
As the sun sets for the day he watches as the final rays disappearing beneath the horizon paint the Black Lake in brilliant hues of gold and cream. It's a picture perfect scene when something suddenly draws his attention.
A student decending into the forbidden forest. Y/n.
His body urges him to follow, but in little time he'll be in no position to offer help and, given the fact his theories have been proven correct, y/n will be in no state to accept.
When morning dawns he resumes his place by the window, mind fixed on only one thing. One person. The same person whom he witnesses hobbling back out of the forest along the very path they'd entered.
That day he calls y/n into his office and explains everything. How he found out. How he's the same. How he can help.
Y/n breaks down in front of him. Years of carrying this weight on such young shoulders finally met it's peak and took it's toll.
That night Remus offers Y/n the goblet of Wolfsbane to make the transition a little easier. It'll be the first time they get to change without suffering an excruciating amount of pain. It'll also be the first time in months Remus will be forced to endure it.
The change that night as the moon rises would be different than any before...
"Remus, have you taken your potion tonight?" Sirius grips his shoulders tightly as he speaks the words frantically. "You know the man you truly are, Remus. This heart is where you truly lie. This heart here." Padfoot beats against Moonys chest as he watches his features slowly morph into the grotesque creature that forever lurkes within.
All words are dull in Remus' ears as the pain blinds his senses and he feels himself start to lose control.
The image of Y/n is the last thing to flash before his eyes and at least his mind is eased in the knowledge that, for the first time, their transformation will be bearable.
A final comforting thought before the beast inevitably takes over.
