hey there! my name is nura from canada and im very happy to have come across your blog! i used to casually watch ipkknd with my mom when it first aired more than 10 yrs ago but i didn't remember anything besides the leads so now im watching it all over again and im HOOKED. im glad that there is a fandom for the show, i would've hated feeling so alone in my love for this show.

i was going thru your posts and i noticed in one recent ask you had answered smth along the lines of the general disinterest of the cast for the show and i think their unwillingness to do anything more with the show. can you pls elaborate a little on this as i have no idea what this show was like behind the scenes. i apologize in advance in case i am misinterpreting your answer!

I am so glad you're enjoying watching IPKKND!!! Fandom makes things memorable for everyone :) I've met some of my closest friends due to this show and it's so exciting to chat up about everything you liked about it!!!

Oh don't worry, the cast is actually the best friends off screen. Barun (Arnav), Sanaya (Khushi) and I think Akshay (Akash) even live in the same building! And they all (which includes Daljeet [Anjali], Abhaas [Shyam] and the writer Gautam) often keep hanging out with each other and going on trips together!

The show was also amazing off screen, you'd roll off your bed laughing at their chaotic behind the screen interviews.

Interviewer asks about why Khushi wants to leave post Arnav telling her she's the biggest mistake of his life scene:

Sanaya: Oh nothing, you see my husband has some gas issues.

Barun (yawning and laughing): Haan I have gas.

Sanaya: Exactly, so I need to take a break from this.

LOL.

But yeah Barun himself quit the show (thank God) because he (accurately) didn't see where the show was going and why he needed to be a part of it. Also the cast in general, especially the leads aren't invested in simply seeing IPK again on screen. Which, understandable. A lot of writing and effort went into making IPK in the first place - to simply see it again as a cash grab (which they did with Ek Jashn) doesn't seem like reason enough. Also Sanaya and Barun have made it very very clear that they really aren't into daily soaps and would much prefer to be in limited series and they're both beyond what IPK is.

Barun has consciously chosen characters that are non romantic in nature to shed off the 'romance' projects. Which is a bit of a shame because few people sell romance the way he does! Sanaya is chilling. Lol she always is.

It's nothing bad, it's just that naturally they're probably not as attached to the show as much as the fans are because tbh, how famous or a classic IPK is was understood some time after the show ended as opposed to when it ran.

It's not like they don't like the show - of course they do granted that it put a few of them on the map, it was a different show and they found great friends out of it - but there actually doesn't seem to be any active engagement regarding the show.

Some examples of when you can see the cast being devoted to their shows like their fans would include the cast of Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai (there was a cute insta reel a few months ago of all of them singing the title song of the show) or Arjun Bijlani from Miley Jab Hum Tum - dude genuinely loves his show so much that when he's clean shaven he posts on Insta that it's #Mayank (which was his character's name).

And it's not a bad thing, it's just that the actors aren't invested in the show they did ten years ago - which happens. In several interviews Barun has little comments on Arnav, he has more of a critical analysis why IPK was different and the writing of the show (he's more inclined to writing in general). And Sanaya also has very little to say about Khushi apart from it being similar to her so she had fun playing it. I think in the recent most interviews where they had questions regarding 'what would their character do' currently or were asked to behave like their characters - they were both a little lost on what to do and had nothing apart from a few funny comments.

Which, again, isn't a bad thing at all.

In fact it probably tells what a big role the writer and director play in fleshing out these characters! Gautam Hegde (the writer) still waxes some of the most beautiful lines about IPKKND.

And if anything the Rewind showed that Barun gets ASR only if there's a purpose to it. And Sanaya can switch into Khushi when she's performing somewhere.

It can feel a bit bittersweet for a fan because a show means so much for a viewing experience. So I won't say that the cast is 'unwilling' - I'd say they're reluctant.

And that's different.

I don't think Barun and Sanaya would ever reprise Arnav and Khushi beyond an hour of shooting if there wasn't anything meaningful to it.

So keeping all this in mind I'm very happy not seeing IPK on screen because current Indian television landscape is terrible and if there's no actual purpose to bringing IPK on screen then what?

It'll just be a Season 3 of Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Rise Bhi or Season 2 of Pratigya!

And canonically Arnav and Khushi got their happily ever after and I'd love it to remain that way.

Charlie's just Turbule's big brother. It's like if you took the Canon!Aduece + Grim and Yuu relationship, reduced it to two(2) people, and made it a tiny less chaotic. Turbule drags Charlie into whatever seems like a "tall person" problem that they can't solve.

this might sound weird (and if so pls ignore this!) but do you care about notes and interactions on your fics? im a writer and i try v hard to not compare myself to others but when i see people getting so many notes i can’t help comparing myself and it’s 👁👄👁 somewhat soul crushing

i’m gonna pop this response under a read more, because she be LONG but it also tackles some getting-started tips that folks have been asking me for following vacant mirrors’ wonderful reception!!!

so this is sort of a hard question — because while notes are sometimes a good gauge about the reception of a fic or piece of work, they’re also finicky and not as transparent nor straightforward as they seem.

you could draw the next mona lisa and it could sit at 23 notes for two weeks until a larger-than-you fandom blog reblogs your work, and boom! you’re amassing thousands of notes a day. exposure is difficult when you’re smaller, so keep that in mind.

as someone who has been writing on tumblr for 5+ years now (for a million fandoms), i’ve been lucky enough to grow a pretty hunky following (i love you, ya big ol’ hunks) so posts of mine will usually have a good amount of likes no matter the content — you can attribute that to my followers and my relationship with said followers/readers. it’s grown over time!

when you’re a 300 follower blog, see posts by a 14k blog get fawned over, it can be daunting. tumblr’s lack of a transparent follower/following system (like twitter) can add to the wonder of “is it me, is my work just bad?” when in reality it’s all because of a blog’s preexisting conditions prior to publishing content.

the trick is beginning to understand that some blogs have a leg up when they begin publishing content — maybe they’ve been around longer, maybe they’ve had a certain piece go viral, maybe they’re talented at promoting their work! maybe they’re just incredibly talented. 

pay attention to that, and don’t be afraid to take notes on their approach.

(by no means does this mean carbon copy what they do. i’ve had folks copy and paste my style down to the typeface and layout i was using for my gif headers. people notice.)

at the end of the day, we can all tell stories, but those who read them are incredibly important in the cycle of creation. love your readers and your followers.

when i was a smaller blog and i’d just begun writing, the notes were always a tricky subject — i found that when i focused on them, i would get pretty disheartened. the truth of it is that when you’re posting, how you’re posting, and the sort of content your making is usually dependant on how your work is going to be interacted with. then, add on the additional factor of who’s following you and how they’ll share the story.

i think consistency and finding your own voice are the two big tricks. is going to get you to the point where you don’t feel like you need to worry about the notes and instead focus on the reception/interaction with your work.

but, all this being said, remember who you’re writing for. if you’re writing for the notes, that’s your prerogative — you may find you’re more likely to crash that way. writing for yourself and seeing yourself grow is usually the best frame of mind to be in, i find. take that daydream and write it out, baby!

(also, sidenote: don’t let followers boss you about. there will be those people who do not understand boundaries with creators they like. people are weird, trust me. don’t be afraid to set those aforementioned boundaries hard and fast. rule pages are important! when people break those rules, call ‘em right out.)

there’s like four gods total so far:

. the Peanut (who was extremely evil and got murdered in a legitimate bossfight which was INSANE to watch bc. this is a baseball simulator. and they programmed a whole-ass bossfight against an evil team made up of players of beloved teams that’d gotten nailed w a status effect over course of 9 seasons) . the Microphone (Wyatt my beloved) . the Monitor (squid, looks after the Hall of Flame where all the uh. incinerated. players go. because people die a lot in blaseball.) . and then the Coin (capitalism and kind of a shitlort)

basically the Peanut was a huge dick and the Microphone teamed up with the Monitor & the Coin as part of the bossfight to murder it, with the other half of the deal being that the Coin became the new blaseball god. and then is VERY HEAVILY IMPLIED to have been the one to sabotage the Microphone?? which like, fuck you????? no one likes the coin. i thought she was chill at first but she very much is not

the different teams have basically taken their Wyatts and ran with them so there is a LOT of diff interpretations depending on what team a Wyatt is on! like, the Tacos have Wyatt Mason IV aka Ivy, who i love, and i actually drew them w MaX today:

i think Ivy is the closest to og Wyatt in looks/personality? on account of being on the Tacos, but the other Wyatts include, like. MaX, who is very punk rock bc of the Seattle Garages being a band and all about self-expression, there’s like... Wyatt Mason 1, who landed with the Tokyo Lift, was transfeminine i think? i dont know a lot about masone id have to bug my roommate orz, uhhh the Wyatt thats with the Ohio Worms is an android i think? and super cute??? also some of them are diff ages, like Ivy is 15ish like og Wyatt (as are a few others) but Wyatt IX was... 24?, and MaX is 19.

OH also our lore for MaX is that like. bc the Garages are a band, and bc of the stadium upgrade that led to the Wyatts being sound-themed, MaX is kinda a digital ghost of sorts is the best way i can think to phrase it rn? like xe’s very physical but also xer physical form is an extension of the PA system and xe has a lot of visual + audio glitching. xe is VERY cool and very much my aesthetic. ALSO XE’S AUTISTIC :D the Wyatts are kinda neurodivergent coded overall from what ive heard talkin to the Tacos

the teams play against each other, yeah! right now blaseball is on its off-season, but:

whenever the game is actually going, teams in each league (wild high vs wild low, mild high vs mild low) will go up against each other in games of 3. whoever has the highest score of each subdivision makes it to the playoffs each weekend, where they duke it out to see who is the season champion! ....as you can see by the Garages being at the bottom of mild high, we did not have a great season ahlfxkhf;klhf

p much all the players ingame are just, like, names and stats? but the fandom go hard on giving them full designs and story that the devs then build off of bc theyre v involved in the community, which led to memorable characters like Jaylen Hotdogfingers & Mike Townsend on the Seattle Garages, who are probably the most well-known blaseball characters on account of the Garages kinda being the protagonists for a bit??? we thought we were done being the protagonists. then we got MaX. then we unintentionally committed necromancy, Again,

there’s also a lot of wacky bullshit like weird weather types (like. crows. where there’s just a fuckton of birds on the field. or feedback, where two players will switch teams, and which is potentially the Microphone’s fault) and player/team modifications that make them pitch/bat better or do weird shit (the Wyatts have a custom modification, Echo, which makes them copy other teams’ mods)

there’s some events that just, like, add a player to your team and they just have a new slot? like normally when there’s like, trades or swapping from roster to shadows (players not playing) you’re having to actually shuffle stuff around, but MaX just kinda. got added on. and the Garages have a History:tm: of collecting pitchers so we have like nearly twice the number of pitchers that any sane team should have bc we got like. 3 events that add on a new pitcher w their own slot. if MaX ended up being a pitcher we would’ve all collectively lost it but xe’s a batter thank god fghlxk;hf;klgxfh

the fun part about blaseball is i barely know fucking anything about baseball (asides from that one time i played it and hit the ball so incorrectly that it bounced off the bat and hit me in the face, which. HOW???) so ive literally been learning as i go fgxhlkhgf so im. more well-versed in the lore than i am how anything actually Happens.

but yeah The Longest Thursday was basically me being like “THANK FUCK TALES IS DELAYED BC I DONT THINK I CAN EMOTIONALLY HANDLE THIS” bc we all got buried in Wyatts and then plot Kept Happening and MaX was uhhh ACTUALLY AT RISK OF DYING??? OR AT LEAST BEING ERASED FROM REALITY????? BC IT TURNS OUT THAT THE ECHO MODIFICATION DOES NOT LIKE ECHOING THE ECHO MODIFICATION. AND JUST WIPES THE TWO WYATTS INVOLVED FROM EXISTENCE. MaX and Ivy are still alive and are in diff divisions so they’ll hopefully never meet but jesus fuck i was Goin Thru It i would not have been able to handle that AND tales on the same day. and thankfully i didnt have to! i skipped the playoffs so i could watch tales lmao

we all also know homeboy likes being in his room away from his classmates the second he sees the opportunity

so one time he asks if you want to come with him and everyone is SHOCKED

the first time he was in your room he was super quiet, sitting with you not enough to get in your personal space but so that he could glance at you doing your thing

chances are he’d be studying or something, but would smile a little to himself as he watches you enjoy your hobbie

if he’s confident not only in his affections but in yours, he’ll want to be affectionate right off the bat when you’re alone

like boy will demand to cuddle and lay his head on your lap

he’s very touch starved so as soon as he knows it’s okay to want attention he so badly craved, he’ll come to you

bonus scenario

hanging out in the common room with bakugo was nothing out of the ordinary for you two, but him suddenly practically throwing himself into your arms certainly was. the both of you were doing separate training so spent a lot of time apart, also meaning he couldn’t take you a new forest route he’d found that he planned on showing you after classes. the both of you were exhausted, but he was showing it much more than you were.

eyes practically half lidded, he seemed to lose all sense of care of who was around when he brought you into his hold - nose nuzzled into your neck as he took in your scent and visibly relaxed. “ i’missed you today..” he grumbles into your hair, hand reaching out to run along your side affectionately. clearly he was starting to fall asleep, so you try and convince him to head to his room and rest. only to be met with him holding you tighter as if in protest. “come with me then, i want to cuddle in my room..”

his friends are slowly filtering in now though and overhear this, kaminari in particular ready to make a big deal out of bakugo going soft. before he can even try however the blonde in question gives him an almighty glare, one that basically says there will be consequences if he tries. in the end you end up taken into bakugo’s room not long after, brought back into his arms immediately and having sweet words whispered into your ear.

Titular character is like my Fave boy in the whole world, he’s so kind and soft despite all the hardships he’s faced, the series has very gentle pacing/character development, and each episode is a carefully crafted lil story that have often moved me to tears, chuckles, or outright chinhands of fondness as u watch natsume slowly find a home in the world and amongst the humans &spirits around him. big focus on friendships, there’s like no romance with any of the main characters, lots of cool different creatures (most of whom arent all that scary once u get to know them), its just literally everything i could ever dream for in a show and it exists! <3)

Leverage (team of modern day robin hoods ruin rich peoples’ lives via  delightfully crafted spy cons to give back to the regular folks the rich people hurt. Extremely good, strong found family vibes, and v cathartic)

Brooklyn 99 (follows diverse cast of character who make up a NY precinct. Hilarious, immensely wholesome & groundbreaking, & probs the most lighthearted crime show besides like psych tbh)

Blackspot/Zone Blanche (spoopy french/belgium crime series set in a small village way out in the mountains surrounded by misty, mysterious and murdery woods. eerie and atmospheric, but also like one of my fave characters (everyone calls him teddy bear) keeps a pet guinea pig at work, so it’s not entirely grim and bleak)

Longmire (a modern western crime drama centering around the titular sheriff and others in their small town wyoming county, well written and lot of chracter development revealed alongside some really good case mysteries bc i love trying to figure out whodunits apparently based on a book series well adored by dads btw)

who is your favorite character in 2? (leverage) ahhh,,, this is hard... Eliot maybe? like Hardison is baby ofc, but i relate to elliot a ton (i think if i was on a team i would want to be the hitter tbh?) and love the subversion of so many action hero tropes that he is, also endlessly amused by how very put upon he is despite all his rad/random skills

who is your least favorite character in 1? (natsume yuujinchou) oh seiji matoba for sure, he can go eat a mouldy tree stump. absolutely evil nasty dude

what is your favorite episode of 4? (blackspot) the end of the road. great opening, didnt end up too devastating unlike a lot of the cases, Hermann was gr8, cool twist i hadnt super expected in the plot which was neat.

what is your favorite season of 5? (longmire) probs 1, walter reeally started to piss me off being Such A Man in later seasons, also me being extremely anxious about Henry and his life choices later, that creepy stalker storyline starting up with Someone and when Someone else in the main cast got died really suddenly and upsettingly later on as well, also when a weird relationship started between some of the characters that i really aint feeling so. before all that happened was nice (also sorry if this is super vague, im trying to avoid spoilers)

(B99) Besides Jake/Amy and Holt/Kevin (bc oviously theyre gr8) uh.. i know it was a long time ago and didnt last very long, but i thought rosa and marcus were really sweet? it brought another layer out to her character, even when they broke up that helped rosa starting to show emotional vulnerability and all, even tho it ended it was still just, idk, i liked them.

(natsume yujinchou, leverage or longmire) um... real torn between natsume and leverage here, they’re both such lovely gems that do found family so, so well.. leverage is a team of modern robin hood-esque spies with brilliant writing and exciting heists and multiple delightful plot twists every episode and great character building and so much catharticism in ruining evil rich peoples lives.

but natsume’s title character is one of my very favorite characters ever, hes been through so much but he becomes the most kindest and thoughtful boy ever, and its so, so soft and gentle in its development of characters and their slow build of getting to know each other and becoming friends, and the interactions with the paranormal world are very rarely entirely malicious/scary, and there’s pretty well no romance, at least like no romance for plot/with the main characters anyways, and there’s lots of female characters who have important roles but arent sexualized/killed off for man feels/exist for romo (which sadly cannot be said about a lot of media, especially manga/anime tbh, even leverage does not win entirely on that front).. its defintiely my favorite anime ever (i dont watch loads, but literally no other one can ever come close to topping its perfection),

i guess tho, leverage is over, and natsume is still technically ongoing, so i guess for that then i have to go with natsume?

I just couldn’t see it. Sorry about that, fatespeaker fans. Im sure she gets more development in the jade mountain prophecy or winglets. Or I hope, because she better live up to sunny. I dont think much of fatespeaker at all really. My unpopular opinion about this character: tbh the Merlin fandom runs on discourse lmao so I’m honestly not sure what could be considered “unpopular”? I don’t think many people address that he sort of coddled and sheltered Arthur a lot, and that gets on my nerves. He claims to have the deepest respect for Arthur, but he clearly doesn’t trust him to be smart enough or kind enough or noble enough to do the right thing when it counts. I wish there could have been more instances where Merlin left the decisions in Arthur’s hands. It would have made their friendship feel even just a touch more equal, which is something it was severely lacking by even as early as S3. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: wHY DIDN’T ANYONE EVER JUST LIKE GIVE THIS KID A FUCKING HUG OR SOMETHING GODDAMN IT?? OR EVEN JUST FIND OUT HIS SECRET AND SWEAR TO KEEP IT AND /NOT DIE TRAGICALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FUCKING EYES????????? WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN SO HARD BBC. BBC WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN SO HARD. htghgfgfb aLSO really wish we could have seen more of Merlin’s interactions with the magical community?? he seems v uncomfortable and even upset with his destiny as Emrys, even by the end of the series, and I really would have liked an episode, maybe a season finale, even, where we get to see him fully accept and embrace the magnitude of his power. Thanks for giving boom and me ways to customize the server to maximum non-readability – I’m sure we’ll use that information in totally responsible ways and not at all for fun and goofs. Your ideas for the potential Pacific Rim au were great – you mentioned that you like to make connections between the different stories and that’s one of my absolute favorite parts of coming up with aus. We should talk more about aus sometime! I love them so much, come and talk and share this au pit with me. (Then we can trick other people into writing them.)

I read your fic, “Raise and get Razed” and it was wonderful! I really like that you took a look at what necromancers might be beyond very goth and hiding out in caves; those are fun too, but the necromancers in your story are original and interesting! I love the idea of average people getting creative with a dark form of magic for relatively innocent reasons – I never would have considered a person using necromancy to help their farm, but asking a parent for advice using plants as a sacrifice are excellent ideas.

I think my favorite part, though, were the pun names and Lup’s reaction to them! I have no idea how you came up with so many but that entire section where the group is being asked for their names was wonderful. My absolute favorite line is this: “B- Buddy- Buddy Corpse? His name’s Buddy Corpse. It’s- it’s ironic how he- he died really c- cause I can admit that it sounds like bloody corpse but th- that’s his real god given name.” (Poor guy, how did he never notice this trend?) Lup going back to retrieve the bodies just so she could see if their names were also puns was hilarious and absolutely something Lup would do. Poor Kravitz is trying to be professional and Lup and Barry aren’t helping; it’s a mess and a delightful peek into their dynamics together!

I’ve also read your fic “Do You Remember Me?” that you’re collabing with hyperInactive, and I am so excited to see where you two go with it! I’m incredibly fond of aus, and especially those that explore what might have happened differently in the story with even a slight change. I really love the idea of Lup getting out of the Umbrastaff early, and this is the first time that I’ve seen it explored with Lup leaving the Umbrastaff during the Rockport Limited arc. (While I was reading I hoped that the au aspect was going to be Lup being freed early, but I was not expecting it to happen in that moment! I had to stop and try to remember if that was how the fight went down - and then the crab snapped the staff and I had a great “oh shit” moment.) That’s such a unique opportunity! Lup has the chance to see what’s happening on the moon base and react to it, but is also able to more obviously interact with events of the story in a way that she couldn’t in canon. There are so many possibilities here! I’m not sure what you’re planning with the rest of the fic, but there are several arcs filled with potential and I’m so excited to see where you go with it!

What I especially liked in the fic - something else I haven’t seen before - is Lup refusing to believe that her brother would have forgotten about her. There are a number of fics that explore Lup learning things from inside the umbrella, and in most of them she figures out almost immediately that Taako has forgotten everything, including her. I love the difference of, despite all of the evidence that might hint otherwise, Lup doesn’t believe it. (And the moment on the train when she wonders if Taako stopped looking for her after a couple of years broke my heart - she’s not angry, but she never would have stopped looking for Taako.) That’s such a realistic way to portray that realization; it’s the one thing that Lup refuses to accept until she absolutely has to, and that gives her moment of realization so much more impact. I’m very excited to see what you do with both this and other fics in the future!

Their angst is absolutely A+ and their tumblr has the perfect balance of fandom v memes, and i enjoy following them v much (although I don't understand their homestuck references, which i assume are very funny based on other experiences). They're a warm and funny presence on the discord, which is mainly how I know them, and they're always around to chat or to help generate Horrible Ideas. They are eminently quotable and the discord would be an emptier place without them.

Ive got my addition! Ive read and reread your gift for candlenights sooo many times!! I love your works, but that one in particular was so funny i was dying! Badass dysfunctional reaper squad is the absolute best, and I love how you write them! You’re a ton of fun to have in the chat, from the thousands of cursed jean jokes that get dropped to the fun ideas tossed around (even in the dangerous waters of the homestuck tag). Stay cool!!

Time To Appreciate the Shit out of Alex!  Like, ok, you are just so good???? im giving up on anonymity here, you're gonna know its me by what I say.  If I tried to be vague and anonymous, I wouldnt be happy with what I said.  (Also this is gonna be super sappy bc i have two modes: Angst and Sap, and this sure as hell isnt gonna be the former).  Anyway, you are so much fun to write fics with.  Like, hands down I would write endless amounts of stories with you bc you have such good ideas, constantly.  Half the time our brainstorming is me sending you an idea that I think is decent but not that great, and then you sending back an idea that is just So Damn Good.  Your story ideas are super original too, and they're stories that if I saw them in a bookstore i would buy them in a heartbeat because I've seen nothing really like them.  And your writing never fails to make me laugh, because you just have this way of adding humor to stories that doesn't seem forced at all and I'm convinced its a whole different art form because I could never be as funny as you when I write.  And then, when the humor is super obvious in the writing it doesnt even feel wrong or clunky in any way it's just hysterical.

The First Character You Loved: HMMMM Definitely Deku from My Hero, cause I mean.... this boy. Sweet boy. I really liked Homura from the start of Madoka Magica, she was just really interesting and drew me in I think. Mysterious brooding girl yes please!!! WELL that would be Soul probably lmao but if Stein had come in earlier it would’ve been him. Im love him.... 

The Character You Never Expected To Love So Much: From My Hero? I think probably All Might actually! I at least didnt expect to like him as much as most characters but oh god he’s a good. For Madoka Magica... probably Kyoko. She kinda just seemed like an ass for the sake of being an ass at first, but then her story got more developed and when she died while saving Madoka and Homura, god. Chills. Love that red head And for Soul Eater, probably Black Star. He was very arrogant and just overall annoying and I really didnt like him very much but as the show went on I started really liking him a whole lot. Especially when he showed how much he cares about Tsubaki u vu (that or Spirit? Cause like yeah he’s a player and a bit of an ass but him love his daughter....) 

The Character You Relate With Most: oof this is gonna be kinda difficult for all three lmao, um. For My Hero.. Deku or Uraraka? Deku wants to really follow his dreams and all which, same, and Uraraka wants to be a hero for more practical reasons, which same (with art lol) so like a combo of both? And for Madoka Magica, probably! Madoka lmao bc I mean, for most of my life i’ve felt pretty average, like i wont amount to much, but! What's Haikyuu about? I already know it's about volleyball.

Hmm. Okay, i’ll try to explain it.

it’s basically the story of these two guys trying to make their school team be the best in Japan??

The story basically begins with the lead character (and my second favourite character of all time) hinata shouyou on his way to junior high school when he is momentarily taken by a volleyball nationals match between a school called Karasuno and some other irrelevant filler school playing on tv inside a shop’s window..namely, he’s taken by this short player from Karasuno nicknamed ‘the little giant’ who seems to be scoring points despite his obvious height disadvantage. In that moment little shouyou falls in love with volleyball and starts idolizing the little giant, so he asks about the club at school and it turns out no one signed up and everything is really sad and he can’t play volleyball in a team and he is literally the only sad ass member?? he still practices alone though, and asks annoys  his friends to help him occasionally. All of this in hopes that he will once get lucky enough to compete on a court one day..and when the day finally comes, he and his little chibi ass friends (whom he dragged to play with him despite them literally knowing 0 about volleyball) get SMASHED to pieces by the strongest junior high team in the prefecture. Worth mentioning, hinata and his anxious pee habit made him meet this guy nicknamed ‘the king of the court’ (supposedly just because he is an insanely gifted player) next to the bathroom and he ends making this dumb ass promise to literally a genius guy who is backed up by the strongest team while hinata’s best player is a guy who didn’t fuckin know what the position names meant

turns out au volleyball sasuke/haru/depending on what type of anime you like doesn’t like the idea of losing so he FIRES back

you’d think because hinata is a shonen protagonist he’d end up pulling some superhuman miracle and win but lol

in typical #shonenboiishatelosing fashion he makes this promise to angry intense bathroom guy

kageyama tobio aka king of our hearts is just really confused as to why Frodo the hobbit is crying and telling him all of this

but in good sportsmen ship just tells him to get stronger if he wants to stay on court.

After hinata’s heart glass gets shattered he goes back to practice vv hard, montage and everything, in order to beat the king that cut his career short.

Fast forward to high school and hinata joins his dream school karasuno and he is all ‘im going to get so strong im going to have a great team and im gonna gET MY REVEN- WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS HE HERE’

turns out kageyama is actually rlly fuckin school dumb and his shitty grades (and even shittier personality) kept him from going to the strongest high school in their prefecture despite him being a genius at tossin u the ball (something we all can do but he can apparently do it ingeniously????) so he is stuck here bc of his angsty really bossy social skills mess hated by everyone back story

at first they are all at each others throats but slowly by slowly their relationship develops into some borderline romantic comedy power duo (literally nicknamed the freak duo by their opponents) plot (that a lot of people including me otp bc honestly it gets p gay sometimes like wow is this the power of friendship or the power of boyfriends the line is getting blurry)

like uh they literally communicate like this??? but still understand each other

so using the power of friendship boyfriends and hinatas super fly jump they set out to take karasuno to the nationals. Along the way ofc there are other teams and characters we meet, all of which are explored and amazingly developed by the author. You literally cannot hate any of them even when they are the opposing team???

So that is basically hq??? a lot of volley?? a lot of friendship plots? a lot of amazing side characters that the author actually develops and includes constantly. There is also the bonus of the most chill (v active and full of amazing creators!!!!) fandom that is all in for any type of hc’s, ships, faves etc etc. It’s all love and chillness.

This series is like A+. Dynamic writing that never not once got boring or felt cheap? it’s always authentic and manages to increase the tension while remaining personal to the characters and their goals. Only Furudate manages to give a character a MILE of believable development DURING a match. Great series that will make you laugh 24/7, the animation is AMAZING holy actual heck..To animate a SINGLE frame of Hinata’s eye the animators used SIXTY different drawings??? In contrast to SP that animates using 1 to 2 drawings for FULL body frames??? The OST is also A++. you’ll start the series thinking ‘who cares about volleyball???’ and 10 in episodes you’re crying because you’ve adopted 20 fictional children and because ‘humans don’t have wings so they look for ways to fly’.

Fun fact: in the OFFICIAL made by Japanese people 100 best anime of all time list, Haikyuu!! was there!! Even shows like naruto weren’t!! that is how highly regarded it is…it’s vvvv popular?? specially in Japan it is everywhere.
