#so so so much of what i am thinking about when i write character comes from theater#like ... one thing: that a character resisting a feeling is always more compelling to an audience than them feeling the feeling#which in theater ends up being something like: show us the feeling by showing the character resisting the feeling#and then in revision ... scene goal. tactics. ohhhh my god#i remember being like: lmao im not an actor when will i ever use this? having to work backward from a scene to determine a character's goal#and also their tactic on each line#hahahahahahahahahahaha. now i do that whenever im revising a tricky scene#anyway. shoutout to my theater department as usual. my second favorite format of transformative work#not sure why im nostalgizing about this tonight but here we are#hidey talks fic#theater tag#anyway turns out you can learn a lot by proxy from just sitting in rehearsal rooms
