i feel like theres not a lot of great resources out there so i figured id just ask -- how would you recommend ways of living with/helping out someone else with npd? :)

youre right! most of the time when u look up NPD stuff its "THE ABUSER DISORDER: KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE IT AND DISABLE NARC DEFENSES SO THEY CANT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU" which isnt. Great

all it really comes down to is listening to them n addressing their needs if they've communicated them to you. ill try to simplify it so i dont get too into details, though i will likely fail, and most of this advice will be based off my experiences, so idk how much itll apply to whoever ur talking about BUT:

generally (and w me especially) you can safely say that NPD mostly has to do with ego dysregulation. Our [as in myself and people w npd] mental health and general happiness tends to rely on how people perceive us, and if that perception is anything but positive, we feel like poopy doo doo dogshit. we kinda need to be paid attention to in a way that feels meaningful, yknow? compliment them, make sure theyre included in conversations (esp group ones), and try not to ignore em in any way. if youre talking to them and youre busy, for example, make sure you include that detail so they don't feel like youre brushing them aside. stuff like that. if they make art, and you genuinely like it, try going into detail as to why, whether its the colors or linework or what have you. if they write, tell them what you liked about the story or poem, etcetera. Tag them in stuff that reminds you of them if you have their socials, or send them things, show it to them, whatever.

lots of us tend to actually be very insecure, even if it doesn't seem that way, which might be important to keep in mind. sometimes we can get whats referred to as "narc crashes" (im not particularly a fan of the term narc, though theres nothing actually wrong with it, so ill just call it an NPD crash) where for whatever reason, we go from feeling great and secure in our egos and our stability and happiness and security to falling 600 feet down directly into hell no recovery absolutely awful 0% joy 0% light 100% agony. dogs with human teeth screaming at you and shit its really just no good. calling you a dunderhead

they usually (though not always!) come after a high where we feel fantastic, and most commonly the cause of a crash is we get hurt by someone, humiliated, or made to feel lesser in some significant way. for me, they're the worst when i no longer feel confident that people like me, and i become incredibly worried everybody secretly hates me. which is a very very very awful train of thought to be experiencing when you have the "EVERYBODY NEEDS TO LIKE ME NOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW" disorder. so if ur friend seems depressed or upset make sure to ask whats going on and bump up the praise and stuff up a notch. its the best way to recover for Me, at least. crashes dont have a consistent like. timeframe? i think it highly depends on the severity of what happened and whats being done to fix it, though im certainly no psychologist lmao

i feel like when folks w npd Are mean or unfair its because their needs arent being met, theyre doing awful, and they need support so they dont desperately lash out for it. god knows thats the case for me. thats another thing thats important to keep in mind i think

a lot of traits of NPD aren't pretty, and thats just a fact of the matter. its a disorder for a reason and all. even if we dont express the almost inherently negative traits all the time (usually because we are aware they are unfair to other people), its very likely that we are feeling them, and it does erode your brain after a while. The DSM-5 list of traits is probably the best way to go for this, as per this government website:

"A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and with lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood, as indicated by at least five of the following:

Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements, expects to be recognized as superior without actually completing the achievements)

Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, brilliance, beauty, or perfect love.

Believes that they are "special" and can only be understood by or should only associate with other special people (or institutions).[milo note: its hard for me to find something specific to make bold in this definition, but generally, i do not express that i think that i am better than other people even if i think it]

Requires excessive admiration.

Has a sense of entitlement, such as an unreasonable expectation of favorable treatment or compliance with his or her expectations.

Is exploitative and takes advantage of others to achieve their own ends.

Lacks empathy and is unwilling to identify with the needs of others.

Ive bolded the ones that would negatively affect people that, I, at least, try not to express but still feel, or feel the desire to do, near constantly.

As you can see, thats a pretty hefty chunk of them! I'm sure some people could take problem with every trait listed here, in which case they can suck my whole dick, but those are the ones I've noticed upset people the most, or make relationships the most difficult. I bring these up because if someone does express these, you need to keep in mind it is because of a personality disorder. That doesn't always make them acceptable, and if they are really upsetting, you should talk to them about it, but thats just like. basic relationship shit lmao. just try to be an eensy bit forgiving

Though the MAIN reason I wanted to bring up the traits is due to the 'entitlement/unreasonable expectation of favorable treatment/compliance' one. This can manifest in a whole lot of ways, but it is genuinely infuriating when someone ignores what i want them to do/what ive asked them to do/etc, especially if its for a reason that doesnt 'feel' solid enough, like them just not wanting to do it. it can be incredibly frustrating if someone with npd says they need something from you or want you to do xyz and it doesnt happen, so try your best to listen to them. if you cant do what they desire for whatever reason, make sure thats clear, and why. Most of us will recognize we're being unfair, but will still be mad; Just know its not because of you, its because of the disorder, and most people will not hold it against you because they're aware its unreasonable in some fashion.

i think thats like. the main things when it comes to meeting the needs of someone w NPD. to summarize and dumb it down:

make sure to compliment them in meaningful ways, especially when you really mean it

pay attention to them; try to prioritize them in conversation and such. it feels very nice. dont ignore them for the love of god

keep the crashes in mind, and try to uplift your friend as much as you can. reassure them you care about them, maybe not directly by saying "i care about you" but with your actions in general

listen to them and adapt to their needs as best as you can

remember that if they are being unpleasant its probably because of The Disorder and they are not doing well. dont let anyone be a prick to you but try to be kind. everybody goes through shit

if anyone has anything to add, or if you have any followup questions, feel free to ask ^_^ i very much didn't cover everything here, and again, this is mostly based off of my experience as someone w NPD, and everyone is different to some degree. The most important thing to do is ask about their needs, and try to adapt to them the best you can.

if you haven't seen it already We Are Lady Parts would be a fantastic recommendation for this blog. I started it last week and really love it. It's about a struggling punk Muslim girls band who recruit the extremely anxious, goody-two-shoes Amina to be their lead guitarist. It balance its moments of drama really well with the comedy and all of the women in the band get to be deeply weird in different and endlessly charming ways. My favorite is Amina because of her very relatable habit to have elaborate silly daydreams about anything and everything. Good show with some really good women!

@whatasmoothgardener Reccing a short manga I've been reading recently called Is Kichijoji the Only Place to Live. Its a manga about twin girls who run a small real estate company in Tokyo from the POV of their clients. It has a unique art style, its female character focused, and it teaches you about the different places in Tokyo. However its kinda episodic.

@phoenixfangs i got into a webtoon the other day called nevermore and considered recommending it to u, but i second guessed myself like oh what if its not worth recommending and its stupid actually, BUT i had a dream last night that u were talking about it so i think i have to at least put it on ur radar, if it isnt already xD what happens if u take edgar allen poe stories and make it about lesbians? u get the webtoon nevermore ❤️ theres an actual Plot to it too im not trying to sell it based on tropes, i just cant describe it better than the actual synopsis/description on webtoon, so id say its worth a glance!

have you heard of tangle tower… it’s a relatively short murder mystery click and point game about two families & their secrets. the art is gorgeous + the game is fully voiced, and the protagonist + his assistant have a dynamic that reminds me of the classic ace attorney ‘lawyer + weird girl’ duos. the majority of the cast are women, and the game features some of the Girls Of All Time. highly recommend, esp since you’re an ace attorney fan

if you’re trying to flesh out the book section, i’d like to recommend three parts dead by max gladstone! admittedly it’s been a hot second since I’ve read it so i can’t speak on the quality of the writing itself, but the plot and the worldbuilding had some interesting stuff. the novel follows tara, a necromancer in a world where doing magic is more akin to being a lawyer, who’s hired to resurrect a god. the book is the first in a series, and the books that follow have some other interesting female protagonists + canonical queer women if you enjoy it o7

hello !! yet another different anon, but just wanted to share this while we’re on the topic of self-criticism - hopefully this doesn’t come off as patronizing, it’s just smth i’ve found helps me as an artist and hopefully it’ll help u :D

i think it’s rlly important to view old art more from the perspective of the feelings u had making it rather than the actual content of the art itself. sure, ur artistic skills have improved a lot over the years, and maybe when ur looking back at ur older work u see a lot of flaws in it - weird anatomy, bad lighting, articles of clothing that don’t make sense, etc (not saying ur old art has any of these i’m just listing examples i’ve had in my own lol) - but u had fun making it !! it’s a drawing of something u loved and still love, and it served its purpose as an outlet to express that love. when people go back and like those old drawings, they’re not seeing it for its flaws - they’re seeing it for the love it represents, a love they probably feel themselves. while it’s good to critique ur own work to some extent for the sake of improvement, people liking ur old stuff is far from cringe-worthy! it’s just someone enjoying something u once enjoyed too, like an internet happiness hand-me-down :)

again, this sort of mindset has rlly helped me personally - i don’t feel as nervous about drawing or posting, bc im just having fun !! it’s ok if it’s kind of janky or has weird details, it was made with love and people can see and appreciate that. nobody ever stops improving or seeing flaws in their work, so its best to focus more on the joy it gave u and push urself towards improvement with the promise of even more joy rather than forcing urself to improve under the threat of feeling ashamed of ur creations

hopefully all of this makes sense i kind of have the shakes rn lol. sorry for the super long ask, i just dont rlly know how to explain all of this in a short way-

AND I DEFINITELY AGREE!! tbh its a mindset i tend to have, but i think where ive lacked is definitely in applying the "im just doing it for fun" logic to past me. i tend to be someone who very much lives in the present and have a bit of a disconnect both from the past and the future, and this can cause me to totally disregard everything about my past self and past work LOL. so honestly having all this put into words has kinda been an "OHH RIGHT" moment for me KASJHFJAHSDKJ

theres also the factor of my audience being bigger now........ im not really someone who likes having alot of eyes on me for various reasons, which sometimes causes me to waver a bit AKJSHFKJH THOUGH ITS NOT THAT BAD. i think most of my shyness comes from having artists i really admire now see my art and im like "FUCK IC ANT HAVE IT LOOK BAD WHAT IF THEY SEE" which can cause me to overthink things But also i tend to forget that those people even follow me 80% of the time. tbh all of my "insecurities" in regards to my art are purely circumstantial and only really present themselves if im in a flustered state, but a large portion of the time im just chilling KJAHSFJKHK

i do also wanna say tho that i think the viewing all art as coming from a place of love sentiment is very sweet........ esp bc in the beginning one of the compliments i got the most was along the lines of "your love for the characters really shines through!!" so to think that, in spite of potential quality, that love is still visibly present makes me very happy.......... What definitive step could they take to turn their dream into a reality?  Marry Edmund and become a literal princess/empress so she can save her sisters and really stick it to her stepmom or, failing that (besides, it'd be pr cool to be bowed and scraped to and wear a crown and a pretty dress!) or marry pr much any of the other male characters so far that aren’t resistance members! bc she's looking to marry rich so she can save her sisters!

How has their fear kept them from taking this action already?  Well, she’d be pr tied down as the wife of an important person and she values her freedom greatly!  how else is she supposed to bask in her precious distractions and adventures?  she couldn’t just take off for the woods at a moment’s notice or prank Amira (she’d probs be executed for that tbh ;D) or smth, plus – and this is the worst one in her mind – lbr she probs wouldn’t be able to see her sisters nearly as much and, gods, she doesn’t know how she’d ever, ever do w/o them!  So!  her solution?  ignore all of this and just hope things continue 100% the way they are rn, forever, problems and all!

it's tedious, yes, and may take longer than OP's method, but honestly it's more enjoyable because i don't have to do math. i hate math. i would rather become sisyphus than do math. okay. so we're gonna erase the edges of this gif.

I recommend you add another layer underneath it all in a color that youd be able to notice immediately, like bright green, since you are a human and by extension, capable of making mistakes, so thatll help you see any mistakes you make. You can delete this later.

(i totally didnt add this after doing an entire version of this stamp where i didnt add a bright layer and went to export it only to realize i made a fuckton of mistakes. nope.)

for some reason, and much to my chagrin, you need to right-click on the brush icon to find the eraser, i dont like it, but i don't know how to change it, so do that, and erase them edges. i recommend changing the mode(which you can see at the top of the screen by the brush size slider) to "pencil mode," so you don't have any weird antialiasing anywhere. in the business of stamp making, i personally despise antialiasing.

alright, youve erased all the edges on your wonderful gif, what now? well, first you delete the bright layer you put under everything(unless you feel like keeping it) and make sure that the only frame that has the little 'eye' icon beside it is the one you want the gif to start with(photopea is weird and itll get confused if you have more than one frame (layers with _a_ in front of it) 'visible' in the layers and order the frames wrong. in the picture the last frame of the original gif is visible, i changed this after taking the screenshot to the frame at the very bottom, THATS the first frame.) then you click on "File," and click "Export As," and then "GIF"

which will open this menu! here you can adjust the speed, but 100% is the speed that the gif originally was, so you can just download it that way if you want. "boomerang" just means that itll go through the frames before the last one a second time, so you get a looping gif.

here's my results, the first one at 1000% speed, and the other at 100%(i found the 1000% one really cute so im including it)

you do sacrifice the edges of the gif with this method, but thats a sacrifice im willing to make to not have to do math.

Disclaimer: this is an obscenely long explanation, with pictures. Efficiency is stupid

So, for the static ones, I make a 99x56 px file on ibis paint x. Other programs are probably available online but I don't use them.

After that, I either upload an image I want to make into a stamp, or I draw one.

Then, I find a frame I want to use. Ill upload them here but let it be known I stole all of these right from deviantart

Most of them are from Lil-Devil-Melii on deviantart. The rest i have no idea. They're not all 99x56px but you can crop the canvas it's fine

Make sure to erase the edges of the picture , so they're transparent. It's not as cute otherwise

Upload those frames over your image in whatever art program you're using and viola, stamp.

For moving ones, it's a lot harder. Mostly because I refuse to download Photoshop.

There are a couple ways to do this. Some are simple animations, like with flashing text and whatnot. For these, you download the individual animation frames from your art program. Make sure it's transparent.

Then, upload each frame to ezgif.com under the option "GIF maker." You can play around with how fast each frame goes and whatnot but in the end, it'll be a stamp with some rad text that moves. This is easy, and doesn't make me want to shit my pants and cry. If you're new, do this. This is fun. This is good. This does not kill me inside

this next one is how we turn gifs into stamps. This one makes me sad. It involves math and sucks. But we gotta do it. For the vibe

First, grab your gif. I'm using this cow gif because it's awesome

Then, I resize it using ezgif. Literally everything for this will be using ezgif. I am a simple man

At this point you should decide what frame to use. I'm using this one because its the first one I clicked

Figured out what size the inside of the frame is. That's what I resize the gif to, so the edges can be transparent. The inside of this one is 93x50 px, so those are the dimensions I'm making the gif.

Figure it out by putting the frame into ibis paint and realizing the canvas to fit just the inside of the frame, then seeing what the dimensions are. But there could be easier ways

Woah it's so small now

Then, still on ezgif, I go to the "crop" option.

Make sureeee to upload the smaller gif

press the button that says "extend canvas size", and then put the "width" and "height" as the dimensions for your FRAME. This'll put a bit of a transparent border around the gif. For this frame, I did 99px and 56px.

The "left" and "top" boxes show how many pixels the cropping happens from the edges of the canvas. The formula for finding that is

(width of gif / 2) - (difference between gif width and frame width / 2) = left box

For me it's (93 / 2) - (6 / 2) = 43.5

Then you do the same.for the height, which for me ends up being 22 from the top

This is reallyyy touchy and annoying though

Okay so THEN you go to the "overlay" option, under "effects." And upload your frame. If the cropping was done right, you shouldn't have to move the frame at all and can just download it

if you don't care about transparency, you can resize your gif to be the same size as the frame, and then put the frame over it. But I'm a slut for transparency

spoilers for my comic that ive been putting off drawing cause i dont know what im doing

little rant about the story and what not

so basically i definitely have favorite things to write. lydia is a big one because she is specifically meant to be manipulative but unaware that she is. rodneys mom, Barbara, is another, just because of everything that happened to her and also how abusers typically behave. jett is going to be interesting to write. i wont say fun because of how he behaves and what hes done but itll be a challenge. rodneys entire character arc is going to be fantastic. i might send out the google doc i have everything written down on if anyone is interested. just to keep interest on the comic while i work on providing visuals.

character design is a big ass fish to fry. i keep giving all my girlies roughly the same two face shapes and AAUAUUUGUGHBH. i also have to make them all pretty easy to draw for the sake of time.

storywise there are some plot points that NEED to be well written. TWO of which happen before the story takes place and we are not there in the moment when theyre discussed. which is AAAAHHHHHH. another is rodneys mom trying to reconnect. that one hurts to think about. incidents 1992 and 1993 are others that need well written. debating scrapping the 1993 incident because that one also hurts to think about. these are all trauma ridden plot points. ill tag them whenever i get to them. the first traumatic incident which happens in year one is also something we aren't present for but is VERY important.

i DO need some insight though, which ill put in another post because if the public likes my coloring style then ill keep it, but i might switch to greyscale for simplicity... backgrounds are going to get reworked later on. for SURE. my ass cant keep up with that shit. most of the important buildings have maps(two. there are only two important buildings that have maps so far. i need to map lucys house too though.) but for the school and stuff like that im just gonna say fuck it and do whatever. i kind of warp that enviroment when it comes up anyways for drama. also its based on my actual school so. yeah.

I have many thoughts about les mis live, and they are all beautiful and complex.

to get it out of the way, things that sucked: the face spotlights were RIDICULOUSLY distracting and ugly use wide spots. the context tidbits are so useless lmao everything is explained in the main songs. it kind of made eponine irritating because she would always appear in these ugly sounding tidbits just to yearn. The surprise is kind of the point. The video effects were kinda distracting BUT also really good which i will expand on later. The tempo was so off, at least to how im used to it. I really dislike how they elongated the notes (though it was impressive tbf). I dislike the weird pauses that were obviously not mistakes. I HATE the line changes. They removed my favorite part of paris look down when the ppl go “whens it gonna end somethings gotta happen now somethings gotta give itll come itll come” then the FANTASTIC fanfare. GOD. Watching it live, i felt act 1 was so rushed — i do think it had abnormally fast tempo… this one’s silly bc it depends on actor intuition but i wish they laughed at the points the characters laugh in the 2010 recording (theres like 3 points that just so perfectly punctuate the sadness). Noticeably awkward staging during rain will help flowers grow. I wish grantaire fell with enjolras SORRY.

Also i wish everyone who talked went to hell, everyone who coughed endlessly took some PILLS, everyone who went up and down the stairs pissed in their seat -_- the worst was when the idiots in front of me (WHO WERE TALKING THE WHOLE SHOOOOOW they were shushed by the usher Three times I need them to be tried for this) were whispering during To love another person is to see the face of god and i wanted to STRANGLE them

anyway, onto the good. And be sure it far outweighs the bad. Great casting, great singing, SUCH a good band, good lighting (spots otherwise). There were no obvious acting missteps that i hear in recordings which was a nice surprise

The set was SOOOOOOOO dynamic and fluid and lighting was used in a simple but CRAZY effective way to morph and splinter the setting. Augh. When the set pushed in during paris, i fell to my kneeeeessss (in my brain). The gate, the barricade, the houses were GORGEOUS

Lighting during the final battle. I wanted to die it was so good. I didnt know or forgot grantaire dies last. I remembered it was voluntary but not like that. Jesus god

There were a lot of surprises in staging acting etc that had me genuinely jump in my seat from shock and delight. I have never acted like that in a theatre, much less for a show ive seen and listened to a MILLION times. Some moments like this: enjolras falling over in the cart and being Dragged out, heart full of love starting so reluctantly (i was DELIGHTED by this it was a nice surprise laugh), the wigs (love), the staging during one day more (god when enjolras is dead center stage haloed by light).... there are so many other moments that had me shook i cant recall rn...

gavroche was so Present in the set, which you really miss in the audio. His little added dialogue bit was my favorite of those. His relationship w grantaire was particularly pronounced, which kinda shifted the source of grantaire’s sacrifice. Ofc there are many reasons he chose to die for the cause, but i hadnt thought one being grantaire seeing the police state for the robbing force it was. Hard yes, but evil. He didnt know it was *evil*. I think that realization was pushed by Gavroche’s killing and something so interesting in the discussion of how sheltered these kids were (or not). Rich boy’s game to play… what did enjloras know…

On the same line, i felt the “message” very strongly seeing it sung at me. Is there a world you long to see… i also felt the faith themes distinctly. Vaguely christian ending lol ill lead you to salvation, the only survivors being a couple. Wait the thenadiers are also a couple. Lol?

On that lot, they were fun and good lol. They changed one of his beggar at the feast lines and it was kind of silly. “this one’s a queer but what can you do” to “this one’s a queer, i might try it too” ????? I dont know if we want to wokeify this guy in particular

There was a part duringggg i think drink with me before grantaire’s verse where both he and enjolras are in the shadows on literal opposite sides of the stage (e is high right upstage, g is low left downstage) and grantaire is staring Right at enjolras. And enjolras turns to him through the first verse. I was watching this going crazy that they actually fanfictionified them i didnt think they would more than ive already seen. There is one movement in particular ive never seen and would have Definitely been in the compilations i watched (lol). This will have its own seperate joke post

Speaking of, watching it live made me realize how Present enjolras and grantaire’s relationship is. Besides the lovey dovey achilles-and-patroclus slash thing, i loooovveeeee their ideological conflict SOOOO much. It is so genuis. So i love that it was center stage when it isnt really in the lyrics (or 2012 film or other adaptations)

And they were both blond. Which was crazy

Javert at the end made me so crazy. Again, the staging — mourning Gavroche, seeing valjean carry marius — shifted how i thought of his suicide as well. I think maybe he had the same awakening as grantaire

The candlesticks at the end ❤️ (this is a bit of hater moment but i was watching the ramin 14 boot and the moment the bishop walks away from him at the end he does the same thing fredric march does where there is a pause and jean is kneeling infront of the bishop and he holds the bishop’s hands to his head in silence and. It is so vulnerable and meaningful and i adore it. And i wish theyd kept that staging)

I always found it weird that eponine is for some reason fantine’s right hand man in heaven. If we’re being haters i still dont like the caricatured costumes and behaviours of “the poor” and “whores” companies. AND they shouldve really tried harder on boy eponine. cut her hair at the very least and mirror her further w fantine -_- well that makes make me like heaven more

This also really made me think about how valjean saw javert as Just A Man, while javert saw himself as The Law. Which they literally say but seeing how they acted around each other cemented it. Javert was so very humanized by his sadness and anger and all that emotion Destroyed him because there is no compassion in the law lol. Maybe there is something wrong with our governments Lol

for a bit that kinda meanders and strays from the main action, they made "heart full of love" et al. really really wonderful. the staging was so great, like marius actually climbing the gate and throwing rocks at her window, cosette running to him, marius and eponine hiding along the gate in times i didnt think they were listing. the thenadier climbs the house set it's so fun

i love that eponine is consistently black. it adds. so much. and i will always judge a production if their eponine is white. this one had a great black actor play her -- her voice was nicely different from the recordings

i liked the video sets, especially when it emphasized character mvmt. sometimes it was bright and looked kind of bad, so the darker the better lol. there was a moment when we dip in the sewers where thenadier enters from upstage center from the darkness of the sewer in the backdrop and it was AWESOME.

OH MY GOD turning -> empty chairs. GOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. turning is such an underrated song and they just so beautifully staged it. the all female cast who communicated such different perspectives on the massacre that was a nice change from a monolithic company. and the lights. when i saw theyd set them down, i knew what was coming. and then it came. God. empty chairs. so good. So good.

im having a lot of mixed feelings. in general the game was fantastic. i honestly enjoyed every hour i put into it So much. i love the formula these games have and they just never disappoint me. the gameplay was super fun all throught the game like its really improved from y7 hawaii is cool the music was Fantastic the entire game and its just. it was an enjoyable experience. a wonderful entry in a series full of wonderful entries

some complaints tho. i was completely sure they were killing off kiryu coming in cause to me its what makes the most sense narratively. the guy is a fucking beast and an expert at stealing the show. which is exactly what happened. while kiryu is alive ichi will never truly be the protagonist of the series. and like. i dont mind that. weve had games with multiple protagonists and they work well. but this all feels like making up for the rushed ending kiryu got in y6 and backtracking on making a new protag for the series instead of fully commiting to ichi. am i glad kiryu didnt die? im not sure. cause theyve set everything up to have him appear on another game so itll depend on what they do next. i am glad that theyve dropped the daidoji stuff and that haruka will most likely appear again cause after all this time if they had him die alone and miserable it wouldve been absolutely terrible. like i guess thats the issue with kiryu in general. hes so big and hes been around for so long that like. what do you do with a character like that. how do you let him go without disappointing everyone but also. how do you keep him around without making him the center of everything. it really feels like theyve written themselves into a corner

i feel like ichis plot was kind of rushed or at least more barebones than expected. like this feels more like a kiryu game than anything else. the guy meets him mom for the first time in his life and they have so little time together. the stuff with palekana and lani feels like an afterthought. theres barely any mention of the fact that hes ebinas half brother??? like whats he gonna do now. they dont even show anything about that. will he stay in hawaii with his mom. will he stay in japan and continue with the dissolution bussiness? are daigo and co gonna help. is kiryu gonna help???? i guess well see in y9

Anyways some good stuff now. kiryus final segment was So good and hype. the jimas showing up to help. that little fight with them as support. the fight with ebina. very good. i also enjoyed ichis part but i feel it was a bit weaker (except for the part where chitose does her thing. shes my most specialest girl in the world. i hope they keep her for the next 10 games)

i would love to be able to comment on the post game content cause i enjoyed that in y7 a lot but sadly. its dlc and im not gonna get that until its very very cheap on sale :^)

i do like

-how they handled mont blanc right off the get go. humanized as he should be via his professor reacting like a parent before the pan to his decapitated head with the horns

-gesicht's voice actor does a wonderful job already

-just again fantastic work with humanizing robots emotionally (vs showing which characters dont seem to care or take the assumption of robotic life being disposable as fact) which is vital to the story being told obviously. a lot of this is just taken directly from the manga but its masterful in the manga so like. yea obviously take that lol.

-the effect when gesicht changes his hand to his pistol is really cool i can tell its emulating a painterly animation style while actually just being like, a filter functionally. but it looks really good despite this cost cutting measure.

-the voice of Brau 1589 although i expected it to be a little more unhinged and pitched in a robotic way, i think its excellent nonetheless.

-I really like the music composed for Paul Duncan I think it's a great fit for the aesthetics and ambiance and the emotions his storyline should bring forward.

-painterly effect again on the clouds of the incoming tornado. it works really well.

-atom's voice is perfect

-the fire effects are strange and dont read like fire. i dont know what it is about them.

-while i LIKE the music it seems TOO stereotypically cop/detective for the vibes given since everything is so macabre but this is more 'look how cool this guy is' its strange and im not sure how itll play out. i assume part of it must be gesicht's theme music(?) and thats why its playing repeatedly at this point

-"I am built in such a way that i cannot harm humans" immediately after what absolutely cracked that guys rib. I would probably change this to "kill" instead of harm but. you know. small potatoes.

-i cant quite recall but it feels like the scene of gesicht delivering the news of robby's murder to his wife is cut short, i recalled her explicitly stating that she understood the feeling that humans had when losing someone now but i may have imagined that. Hold while i check.

CHECKED: yes they cut out a specific line where she says the boy cried for days (after his dog died) and she only now was understanding how that truly felt. There is also a later portion of this scene that has more, but I'm not touching it as the anime can take its pacing as it will, and its following the manga fairly closely at this point so its likely the scene will just be later on

-Speaking of pacing, my concerns about pacing beign strange are so far unwarranted.

-I recalled gesicht acting far more disconnected than this when it came to his work, although this may be because its been a while since i read the manga in full. In this, he states that there is a "devil inside (the perpetrator)" as he's leaving. This will be difficult for me to check for quickly so I'll check for it when I reread. I kind of like this, though. He's still very disconnected and outwardly stoic, but he says this after we've had the connection made For us between an explicitly pacifist, friendly, hardworking, and eco-friendly robot's murder and the murder of a human who explicitly supported robotic rights outwardly as an activist. So it feels a lot more like a deep fury. It's awesome.

-yea the hyperrealistic explosions are really strange.

I'm always a slut for otome games and visual novels and other story based games with voice acting and I honestly prefer even awkward grunts or text blips or even a dialogue forwarding sound over silence and full voice acting is even better like especially when the main character in an otome game even has a voice BUT I've found their is one tiny caveat............................kissing sounds are Very Weird

I mean okay I always hated ASMR-esque stuff so I might be biased but BOY get your mouth OUT of my EAR for ONE MINUTE for the love of GOD

Maybe I should get around to playing diabolik lovers someday, with its dummy head mic shenanigans I think it might be the perfect (unintentional) horror experience for me

in the beginning, i was enamored by artem/luke primarily bc artem and luke were my faves. but now, ive been enlightened.

artem/luke is fantastic to me because honestly, artem and luke are very similar and if neither of them change, theyre going to fuck each other up by virtue of strengthening each others' unhealthy habits. my ideal love for these two is seeing in the other not just a lover, but a mirror and a wake up call to get better. for the other person's sake and for their own

thats a lot, so lemme go thru this bit by bit. first off

artem and luke's dynamics irt characterization

in my nxx boy chart of tendencies, artem and luke are both in the i do not want to do bad things to others zone. both of them are, in my opinion, heavily motivated by their desire to be good (luke) or correct (artem) for others. put those two together, and kjfbgkd the MORALITY AND LOGIC OVERTHINKING OF IT ALL, LMAO. them entering a close friendship would be luke going "ah, i must sacrifice my life now for artem" and artem going "ah, i must work so so much to be exactly what luke needs" boys, get therapy

both luke and artem are prone to self flagellation but for different reasons. luke is motivated by a morality kind of shtick while artem is motivated by rules and the concept of earning. again, this colors the language i use to describe them. luke wants to be good, artem wants to be right. when they perceive themselves failing this, they punish themselves.

with the above, it is PRETTTTYYY obvious how like, if they get together and they dont improve themselves, itll cause a feedback loop of them just making each other worse. like, same coping mechanism! hell yeah! if they reinforce this kind of stuff in the other, theyre going to be very very miserable.

to bring up custard flanon's ask, yep yep yep. thats another danger. artem so desperately wants to be seen as human and luke has a horrid tendency of putting the people he loves onto a pedestal of perfection. this is not great for both of them, it causes more distance, it would rip them apart.

i do not like this because that is a sad story, so heres what has to happen for it to be a good one

their differences is what makes things get better.

luke is a very emotionally open person while artem is not. luke is open about his love and happiness towards others and seems quite naturally in tune with feelings while artem has difficulty, mostly because of his restrained personality and general shyness. i can very much see luke being able to bring artem out of his shell, help artem be more open.

artem, while he has his moments of self deprecation, is more aligned with the concept of working to get over hurdles. luke is a more hopeless motherfucker, sometimes convinced that hes going to be a bad person forever regardless of what he does, but artem can help him see that no, no, it just takes work. and we can work on it together. hand in hand, side by side.

artem and luke are similar. but their differences matter so much because thats how they can learn from each other and improve as people.

these guys are so SO SO BLUSHY FLUSTERED. THESE TWO ARE THE EASIEST TO FLUSTER, DEFFO. their courting is going to be excruciating but also disgustingly romantic. artem delivers a bouquet of flowers to time's antiquities and luke spends the whole day just scree-ing to peanut. luke gifts artem a fountain pen that is a gun, delivers it to themis law firm, and artem is touched and then accidentall fires a shot into the ceiling and celestine CACKLES. "OHHHH, ARTEM, U GOT A GOOD ONE, HERE. he got you a fountain pen that is also a weapon. it's so you." and artem goes into his office to melt into a blushy puddle. love goop

artem does not let luke cook. they tried to cook together, thats a romantic thing right? but the one time they did, artem nearly had a heartattack at how luke leaves the stove unattended always and holds knives as if hes going to stab the vegetables, not mince them. artem very lovingly tells luke to sit down at the kitchen counter and luke admits defeat bc like, he is NOT complaining at the chance to just sit there and watch artem wing be domestic and cook something delicious for him

(shhhh, dont tell artem this, but luke has been doing more studying on cooking like a sane person. he really does want to help out in the kitchen in a non-stressful manner and hes excited to surprise artem one day with a dish he'd cooked for him.)

CANNOT stress this enough, these two are disgustingly romantic but very specifically in the little ways. nothing grand like candlelit dinners or rose petals on the ground (....well. artem does try that for their anniversary, DONT LAUGH, HE SAW IT IN A ROMANCE DRAMA TV SHOW) more like. everytime they leave each other, theres always a quick kiss, they r holding hands whenever they can, face touch, nuzzle into hand, small kiss to the palm. anybody who sees these two is torn between "AWWWW <3" or "stop. stop youre making me feel so fucking SINGLE...."

i very very much see artem, if he uses terms of endearment, going for the ones like darling, love, angel. the first time artem says this is actually when hes half asleep and luke wakes up early for his morning jog and artem is like "gmorning have a nice jog, love" and luke goes so red and runs like a few extra laps to calm down HAHA.

luke, im starting to realize, is somebody i dont hc using terms of endearment at all, he always just uses the name of the person he loves. but the way he says the name is what makes it so special; savoring the letters, the sound. reverent and grateful. artem has never heard anybody say his name like that, as if he's a treasure.

artem, luke at his side and peanut on his shoulder: dont you ever talk to me or my boyfriend or my son ever again
