Hannigram and Verger Family analysis

TW: MARGOT AND WILL'S STOMACH SCARS MENTIONED AND IMAGES (underneith the cut)

HOLY SHIT YALL IM BACK WITH ANOTHER REALIZATION

so i just realized that wills "c section esque" scar he got from hannibal in mizumono might actually look that way for a reason

it could be symbolic to a hysterectomy because hannibal took their child away, and had to give Will scar somehow. And i mean, will technichally is the mother, he killed abigail's father placing her in his custody- hannibal only helped with it. Just how the criminals in season 1 (angelmaker, georgia madchen, abel gideon, etc) and their crime scenes were DIRECTLY paralleled to the progression of wills encephalitis and the state of his mental well being, Margot getting a hysterectomy from mason basically directly parallels will getting abigail taken from him.

Also, Margot choosing to have sex with Will specifically, and the child coming into their lives and then almost immediately being taken away (BY HANNIBALS DOING) forshadows abigail coming back and then almost immediately after, her death. Will empathized with margot (WHO HE KNEW WAS GAY, or at least hannibal did, it was stated in the script but was cut from the final product) about the lack of a child, which is literally the only reason had sex with her (he thought about the stag man the whole time anyway...)

This one specific conversation in the episode Tome-Wan is very important. Will says to hannibal, "you're fostering codependency. isn't that what you did to abigail? got her to take a life so she would owe you hers?" That's exactly what hannibal is doing to margot- trying to get her to kill mason so she would owe herself to hannibal. it also connects abigail and margot in a way.

continuing the conversation, will says "i bond with abigail, you take her away. i bond with barely more than the idea of a child, you take it away... you don't want me to have anything in my life that's not you." Hannibal, knowing very well the consequences, told mason about margot's plans and had the child taken forcibly away from her.

Hannibal also directly took abigail away from will, by cutting her throat in front of him. both of these things ended with a scar, margot's from the hysterectomy, will's from hannibal's knife, but it looks oddly familiar to margot's. Also remember, right before wills and margot got together, the two of them compared scars. (MORE ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT)

Also i know this is kind of a strange comparison considering mason and his intentions, but in the episode Naka-Choko, this exchange happens:

margot is unable to kill mason because despite all the horrible things he does to her, deep down she still loves him and can't bring herself to do it. who does this sound like to you? yep- Hannibal and Will. Now bviously hannibal and will's love is very different from the verger's, but it's still a parallel

I see the teacup breaking as hannigram’s relationship + will’s becoming, esp since it’s superimposed over will’s head. bc it’s in his head, he’s making the logical leap to end hannibal’s hold over him, end whatever mania he was caught up in while trying to bait/chase hannibal. it’s done. read on reddit that hannibal’s notes full of physics equations may represent hannibal trying to calculate how the cup can feasibly come back together again or how he can turn back time to repair their relationship (both might as well mean the same thing). it can also represent the end of hannibal’s whimsy. they’re done touring the world and visiting museums and playing mindgames according to hannibal’s puppeteering. now they’re back in the wolf trap, back in the real world, where broken cups don’t mend themselves, where will decides that he wants nothing to do w hannibal and his whimsy anymore. they’re done.

I love how the season could’ve ended here as will guts hannibal the same way hannibal gutted will in s2: with surgical precision. he knows hannibal cares not for his life or death, and causing bodily harm upon him will only delight him more. so will goes for the heart. he knows himself well enough now to assert that he may tolerate killing, but he doesn’t have hannibal’s appetite. he won’t be hannibal’s pet nor friend. by exiling and forgetting him, will puts himself above hannibal as a god, and hannibal is helpless in his worship. he can do nothing but retreat as his offerings are rejected. and by god I’ve never seen him so completely hurt and devastated before. absolutely nothing has ever illicit such a reaction from him until will. jfc I HATE GAY PEOPLE WHY CANT YALL JUST BREAK UP NORMALLY

Like you know, Will absolutely did 100% for sure know that Hannibal was in love with him before he made Bedelia spell it out; I mean MAYBE not in those exact words but he sure knew that Hannibal had a Big Attachment to him, and we KNOW he thought of it as love bc of that goddamn dream

But he also, I think, was genuinely asking her? Bc like. It’s one thing to “know” that someone has feelings for you, or yk. Had feelings for you three years ago when they turned themself in to maybe face the death penalty rather than live without you.

But it’s another thing to have a third party who you know knows the other person really well be like “bro he is In Love with you!!!”, isn’t it?

So yeah his conversations with her were absolutely less about actual therapy and more about needling each other, and I don’t think it was a question Will didn’t know the answer to, but I do think that having her say it made a difference to Will and affected his perception of the thing. Affected his perception of Hannibal

Remember when he said that thing about Hannibal following multiple trains of thought, and used that as justification to deny to himself that Hannibal really missed him? Like. He did believe Hannibal missed him, it was blatantly obvious that Hannibal missed him, but he was like “well yeah but he’s also just messing with me”

And I think that attitude absolutely hung around going forward. “Yes Hannibal is as attached to me as I am to him but he’s also just fucking with me”. Even Hannibal going to prison was done to fuck with Will, if viewed from a certain angle, was it not?

And so to have someone say “he’s not fucking with you he just is really goddamn in love with you (you idiot)” was something he needed to hear to be able to actually act on his own feelings

on this episode of ‘weird niche au’s that nobody wanted’: I did a modern gods au for mark and jack’s characters a long time ago and loved worldbuilding for it, so I wanna do a darker one with hannigram this time.

first we have hannibal, a god who sees himself above the rest of them, and is slowly killing all of them on his way to the top (starting with the weaker, local gods and going up the ladder until The Big One) and makes it a game for himself. like in the show, he makes art pieces of each one as a way to warn everyone else that he’s coming for them, and to be on their guard. but he doesn’t want to do it alone, so he tries to find another god that he feels is his equal in every way and shares his vision for the world. he eventually somehow finds himself in the middle of nowhere in wolf trap, and wonders if there’s somehow one of the local (local as in that area) gods that he doesn’t know, so he he takes his time exploring.

eventually, he comes upon will’s domain, and the minute he sees will, he just knows. and he realizes at that moment, that will is his equal.

then you’ve got will, the weird recluse god who just stays in his domain and does nothing else, because he’s done with humanity in general and only requires the company of his dogs. he even hates the vast majority of the others like him, and just wants to live out his eternity in solitude. he too, like hannibal, desires an equal, but resigns himself to the fact that he’ll most likely be alone forever, because nobody else is as fucked up as him.

and once they meet, shit gets set into motion as expected. before I can even think about writing this, I have to do a fuckton of worldbuilding to justify this whole concept and im excited bc I love worldbuilding so fucking much!! the others from the show will be included, but at its core, this fic is about the relationship between these two and the feeling of finally finding someone who understands you wholly. want it to be kinda whimsical I guess, while still being dark as fuck.
