okay time for my rant

i feel kind of upset that i know that a lot of people will be disappointed with season 5 byler because they have this one view: past byler moments need to be referenced.

assuming that it is endgame (bc yeah ofc it is), i don't think that will be enough for everyone, which i totally get <3 like if they do it in a poorly written way (i.e. no depth into mike's queerness or a cheating plot on el) i would totally get not being happy with it. but i know that some people will think that it's not that good because they may not reference past byler moments??

like some things that i've seen people hope for are understandable. for example, wanting a kiss with heroes in the bg, or wanting a mention of the painting. those make total sense because the writers set those things up in a way that implies it'll be referenced later on.

some things i just don't stand by. for example, wanting them to show ANY reference to them meeting each other for the first time, any reference to the crazy together scene. those are already canon moments. it's almost as if people needing these scenes to be referenced is a kind of insecurity in the existence of those scenes in the first place? like we need to them to be rehashed in order to make them like- double canon in a way?

now, i totally get wanting this to happen. for the reasons i have just expressed and the fact it would be really cool. but what i don't get is: saying that the new season's byler would be poorly written without a reference to a past moment.

i can almost see it now, post byler endgame, people getting mad there was no reference to their first meeting, people getting mad they didn't reference 'lets start a new party'. them saying it was poor writing. me going:

honestly......... i think it would be better written if they didn't reference these. More specifically, if the miwi flashback isn't them meeting each other for the first time, i would be equally as excited, because it means a NEW THING for us to reference, a new thing for me to explore in analysis.

the writers will hopefully give us some new lines. new soundtrack songs. new things to analyse and make memes about. i don't neeeed them to say they're crazy together for the third time*.

so if i catch anyone calling writers who have made an effort to create new, romantic, beautiful scenes that deepen the complexity of byler's relationship bad writing just because they didn't reference old moments, i am going to have an aneurysm <3 and then giggle in heaven, because why ur working urself up over literally nothing, i'll be sat, positive and happy, looking at fresh and new things to obsess over.

Liu Kang

Liu Kang was rarely ever rough with you. In fact, the only way he'd do it is if you either verbally say it's fine, or if he knows you're poking the bear just to get a reaction. And when you get a reaction...there's no going back. You've kissed with your back to the wall several times, and every time was gentle and loving and laced with care. Reiko is a warrior. Hardened by battle and discipline, so the way he kisses you usually starts off that way. He can't help it. Not only is it the way he was raised and what he was told a man is "supposed to be", but it also came with how his partners were to be treated. When it came to you his sense of duty and protection spiked every single time. So here you were, well within his unintentional bear hug as your back was against the wall. His kisses always started off like he was going away to war/fight (because he usually was) but he would eventually melt and become smoother because you're by his side.

Sub-Zero

Bi-Han, a truly complex character. I believe that whoever captures his heart will be the main obsession in his life. In this case, it is you. He constantly needs to be on you, around you, see you, hear you, you name it. He can't get enough of your lips and this is especially apparent the way he's almost always pushing you to the wall while kissing you. Can we blame him? He's a tall hunk of touch-starved and the only thing that will satiate that hunger is roughly making out with you every chance he gets all while still knowing how to treat you like a porcelain antique.

Havik

Havik...this guy. Even though I'm pretty sure it's not canon I still feel like he'd regenerate and degenerate for fun and for different purposes/occasions. For the sake of my sanity I can say I found him fine as hell before his face got fucked up, and so did you. But you don't mind him either way because you love his crazy ass. Allow me to set the scene: You say something snappy to get his attention and boom...he regenerates his facial wounds just to back you against the wall and shut you up with pure smugness and arrogance behind his kiss. But, this is what you wanted, nonetheless. And you'd do it again!

Johnny Cage

Who's to say Johnny Cage wouldn't try to get you in one of his films just so he could keep getting takes of him backing you to a wall and kissing you? For Elder God's sakes, he's the one who wrote the script! And of course it's something dramatic like him being a villain that captures the hero and tries to convince them to ditch their position to be with him. Dude would totally think he's Loki (did i say that bc i think it would be hot if Loki did that to me? ..don't worry about it!) He's for sure fucking up his takes on purpose and you know this, but you only pretend to be irritated and maybe even fuck up a few yourself.

Scorpion

Kuai Liang, the romantic this man is. Like Liu Kang, he's never rough with you. Except it would take a little more convincing to let him know it's fine for him to act on his feelings when he wants to. With him, his kisses are slow and gentle. They will always start off like that even if he has a hard day. All he wants is to hold you, but it's like whenever your back hits the wall a gear starts turning in his brain. The idea of you having nowhere to go and enjoying it? Not even an Elder God is pulling him from your embrace. He gets handsy and a lot more affectionate around this time; he's kissing your face, neck, and shoulders too, because why the hell not?

Geras

Geras is a special case. He's an immortal who has never experienced romantic love before. So naturally you will have to teach him some things and even point out things he has observed that can be taken as romantic love. But he's still a man who has seen a lot, so this guy knows what kissing is and how to kiss. Surely you didn't think this giant fine ass immortal being didn't know how to treat his partner? Crazy talk! Understand that when you introduce the classic wall kiss by showing him what to do, he's leaning in to kiss you as he lifts you in his arms with no effort to be found and there won't be kissing going on much longer!

Mizu Headcanons

AN: Broo ive just finished blue eye samurai and im obsessed w it..so here are some headcanons! SHE WAS SO FINE IN THE LAST SCENE BTW UGHH

Warnings: Angst, Contains mentions of death & murder, spoilers! The fluff is x reader

Angst:

- Mizu often thinks about how life would be if she chose to forgave her husband and didn’t kill him

- After Ringo leaving her she feels awful for what she’s done and wishes that she could let go of her revenge path but cannot

- Once Mizu’s “mother” betrayed her and Mizu killed her, she still had the motive of killing her father, but instead of the motive to avenge her mother it was to curse the man that made her live in the first place

- She understood that she never should’ve been born in the first place and was born as monstrous, hence her obsession with revenge. But there is obviously a part of her that wants to live a peaceful life

- She normally has panic attacks but no one has ever witnessed them except Swordfather

- When she was with her husband (the night before the sparring) that was the only time she felt loved for who she was

- She wanted to show who she really was as her husband asked to, and once she did she was called “a monster” and now she’s reluctant to show anyone even half of who she really is

- She overworks herself to the point of exhaustion and most times collapses, forgetting to eat and rest

- Whenever she checks her reflection, she imagines herself with brown/black eyes

- (Canon) she wears the same clothes she wore since she was a child and stitches them whenever they tear

- because of her binder she often has trouble breathing but she’s so used to it she thinks it’s normal

- She once wanted to gouge her eyes out so she won’t witness the looks of disgust when they see her eyes

- She’s entirely convinced that there’s no way she’ll ever be truly loveable. She’s convinced she’s monstrous in every way, from the hues of her blue eyes to the violence she bears

Fluff/Not angst(finally)

- Love language is quality time & acts of service

- Although she’s not aware of it, she has an unconscious fixation with music. Mizu has always been drawn to musical festivals and it both calms and excites her

- If given the time, she normally asks if you want to go to festivals (her unnamingly pleading for you to agree) and her face is relaxed the whole time, her fingers intertwined with yours

- I feel her normal dates with you would be very simple. She’d enjoy just spending time with you, quietly or with small chatter

- She loves stargazing with you. My god. Laying beside each other, feeling each others warmth contrary to the harsh snow as you look at the different constellations

- Actually, you’d be looking at the constellation while she looks at you with a small smile tugging at her lips, while she adores the light in your eyes as you gaze up

- Speaking of holding hands she LOVES to hold your hand, doesn’t matter if your hand is cold or warm, it intertwines with hers perfectly

- Whenever you compliment her eyes she doesn’t believe you until you say it a thousand times

- takes a LONG time to warm up to you, but once she does it is SO worth it

- unconsciously misses your warmth, once sleeping she searches for your hand to hold or for you to hug

- speaking of hugging, i think she can be both spoons but mostly big spoon

- loves resting her head on your chest but loves wrapping her arms around you, ensuring that you are safe

While Zane will always be a narcissist to me, there are also some borderline traits he has. It's possible for him to have both, yes, but I don't want my perception of him to be solely mental illnesses. Because I notice a lot of the ninjago fandom tends to see characters less of actual people and more of lists of diagnostic criteria. So I'm trying to find a balance. For now though, I definitely do see him with both. He fits traits of both (I will cover more in the future, but for now just for some examples: fear of rejection, Pixal is literally his FP, excessive need for admiration, poor self esteem). But he is his own person with more to him than just that of course. He has interests and hobbies and is more than a punching bag. Again, I'm trying to find a balance between him being a genuine actual person and him also having a lot of mental issues that do need to be considered when I talk about him. This is one of the main reasons I have yet to write anything with him, because I want to figure out how to not make it seem like i see him as nothing but his narcissism and bpd.

A little something about erehisu too- tbh I don't think its obsessive desperate fan behaviour like it's a very good ship imo. I have mixed feelings about it but idk lowkey makes sense. not in a "these people are great for each other and will be so cute as more than friends" way but more like a "oh wow they have a lot going on, they are good friends and the people they love are people they can't be with so it would make sense if they both are emotionally vulnerable enough that they end up doing something" kinda way. would've definitely made it more interesting because I thought sidelining a character like historia who had so much potential would hopefully have a bigger meaning and some greater part of Eren's plan but no bro is an idiot who has no idea what he is doing.

Mixed feelings about historia too- I liked her arc but the amount of plot armour that surrounds her kinda pisses me off. also the irl jaegerists and incels on reddit are so annoying they've made her into chaderen loser's trad wife who sits at home with the baby and shakes her head with a disapproving pout when he returns home after genocide like I know for a fact canon historia would be disgusted by this narrative. also oh my god the lengths these people go to prove that her relationship with Ymir was just a one sided obsession and not a lesbian romance is insane. like yea historia doesn't have to be lesbian she could be bi but that relationship was definitely mutual and romantic

I’m totally guilty of this, too. I’m a lesbian, and I certainly want to see more lesbian relationships in my favorite shows and movies. I HATED Travis and Travnat on my first couple of watches, and I think a lot of that had to do with Travis being a man and a straight relationship being so prominent in the show in the place of what could be more queer representation. But I totally understand the people who dislike Travnat more because he is a man, it makes sense that it is more uncomfortable to see a man slut-shame and point a gun at a woman than it is to see a woman do so. I love Lottienat but I don’t think I would love it as much if Lottie was a man grabbing Nat with the knife during Doomcoming, or if Nat was a man telling Lottie she should “say less.” That’s just the anger and discomfort associated with a long history of misogyny and men’s abuse towards women, so I get that aspect. Toxic wlw is a lot more fun than straight toxicity.

But I agree, you definitely cannot say that Travnat is poorly written. Travnat grew on me over time because of how well-written and realistic it is. I love that they are the only people who can ever truly understand each other but are also the source of each other’s self-destruction. They are birds of a feather but that also means they have the same unhealthy coping mechanisms and relationship patterns. There’s a heartbreaking push and pull in their relationship of reaching out to each other and then lashing out and hurting each other because neither of them know how to accept love. And Nat replacing her drug addiction with an obsession with Travis in the wilderness makes so much sense. You can hate Travnat but you can’t say that Nat didn’t love that boy. She canonically says he was her best friend, the only person who ever truly knew her, and the only person she ever loved. Those are words straight from her mouth in that scene with Lisa. Ugh I love them and could go on about how narratively fascinating their relationship is for ages but I’m going to restrain myself.

And as much as people say there are too many men in this show, I do think including men (particularly Travis) in this story has been valuable. I have appreciated being able to see how a man plucked from a patriarchal society has changed and evolved when placed in a female-dominated environment. An important element of this show is watching the ways of civilization and society slowly dissolve, and part of that is seeing how Travis transforms from toxically masculine to releasing society’s expectations and developing more gentle and emotionally expressive feminine qualities. And watching how he comes to respect female leaders in the group like Lottie. And watching how traditional gender roles shift in his relationship with Nat. With men being included in the story, we get to see how societal gender norms can shift in this lawless environment, and I think that’s really interesting.

on one hand i get it. they both had insecurities that made them feel like the other wouldnt want to only sleep with them for the rest of their lives. ian is the only guy mickey canonically dates and has sex with multiple times. mickey felt like ian would eventually leave him like he had in the past also multiple times.

so in the first episode the monagamy conversation seemed normal to me. they literally both specifically say "i dont want you to fuck anyone else" and mickey was obviously just waiting to see ians answer because he wanted to do whatever ian wanted. if he did write down "open relationship," it wouldve been because he thought thats what ian wanted. personally i think he didnt write anything down because he was still trying to grasp the concept of him and ian being a "normal" married couple that communicated heathily and didnt run away and flirt with/fuck other people when they got scared.... plus he actually cant spell monogamy hes a dyslexic with an 8th grade education

so that episode was fine on its own. if they wouldve left it at that, it wouldve been a silly cute moment in their bumpy marriage. but then the writers had to make that stupid ass orgy episode. first of all why the shit would they NEED to be friends with other gay men, and WHY ARE THE ONLY OPTIONS TO EITHER BE THEIR FRIENDS OR FUCK THEM??? IT LITERALLY MAKES NO SENSE. DID THEY NOT JUST DECIDE IN EPISODE ONE THAT THEY WERE GONNA BE MONOGAMOUS?

i actually cannot stand how the writers (and the fandom by extension) cant let gay characters have their boundaries and be left alone. why the fuck do they have to be open to straight sex and orgies and nonmonogamy and being verse WHY CANT GAY PEOPLE HAVE BOUNDARIES. the trope of queer men specifically being easy and dtf is why the AIDS crisis was so deadly. because queer men are so open to sharing sex fantasies and sharing partners and sharing needles, right? its just a gay problem, and its better for all of us if theyre dead anyway, so lets ignore it until it goes away

okay so like I have had this theory for a while but I had to rewatch the first and second episode of genloss to fully explain it

okay so like gl!slimecicle is OBSESSED with slime right?

he has a ‘secret stash’ gl!ranboo finds in the fridge and gl!slimecicle goes “dont tell anyone I dont like rats!”

why wouldnt he want anyone to know?

well you know how the slime=blood in genloss? (which is canon because of the parallel in the ep.2 episode cover and the operation scene)

what if gl!slimecicle wanted to warn gl!ranboo behind showfalls backs?

he also had skulls and teeth hidden around the basement. he even had an urn (WHICH HE MIGHTVE KNOCKED OVER TO GET RANBOOS ATTENTION !!), and yes its supposed to be a silly joke but what if gl!slimecicle gained consciousness for a bit (or he may have done it subconsciously with the information that the contestants real minds can subtly communicate) and scattered the remains of old contestants to warn them about the gameshows real malicious intent? all of the ‘slime’ was just the blood and guts of the contestants. gl!ranboo didnt realize any of this. this could be a stretch but couldnt frank also have been a skeleton of a past contestant? what if showfall media realized what gl!slimecicle was doing and just made ‘frank’ a part of the show as a joke to distract gl!ranboo? honestly it mightve also been to try and warn himself and or to snap out of it, and it also couldve been to warn and untrance as many people as possible.

gl!sneeg was locked down in the basement for saying no to the game. do you think that gl!slimecicle put him there after saying no because there was a chance he mightve still been a bit conscious and could warn the next contestant? or did he put him there because starving/death of malnutrition is better than getting turned into a showfall slave?

showfall media mightve seen what gl!slimecicle was doing and made him be the operation victim as a form of punishment, and we all know that wasnt just slime. (googoobie 🤯)

i talk about yandere seto sometimes but in season 0 it is pretty much canon, like he is actively stalking yugi throughout the show and i think its really funny so heres a bunch of evidence of that:

the first time we see it is when he sends that first game master out, he's not only hiding to listen to the duel in the nurses office but its heavily implied that he's been stalking yugi for a little bit before that too

like at the end of the day anzu tells yugi not to go to the arcade and yugi kind of rushes off despite knowing he doesnt have the money, meaning this is a frequent thing he does, but whats more is that he's going specifically that day because someones told him theres a new game being unveiled. when he gets there he cant find it and has to ask about it, which is when we see a disguised kaiba lead him to the back alley to kidnap him (this killed me to watch btw, yugi has no self preservation, but it was cute that kaiba seemed to stutter when talking to him)

but this all means that he was watching yugi long enough to know he always goes to the arcade after school and that yugi wouldnt be able to resist coming, even if he didnt have the money, as long as there was something new to play. it also means he had someone plant the information that thered be a new game OR that kaiba just disguised himself and told yugi this which is what im choosing to believe

of course, then we get to see him actually stalking him in the triplets episode, literally driving by and watching him (which is so funny to think about cuz his driver must be so tired of him lol)

at first i honestly thought he was stalking the triplets but at the end of the episode there is no reveal that he wanted them out of the dueling scene or that he was even worried about them getting the card they wanted at all, he beat them extremely easily. his only reason for doing the duel is because he couldnt stand the thought of someone (that he hadnt sent himself) beating yugi before he could, so i think he was watching yugi, recognized the triplet, and got bothered by them trying to encroach in on his rival

he also apparently records yugi? this recording is just the first game master playing him that he shows to aileen, but who knows how many other times he's recorded him just in case he 'needed' the footage

this moment of him lamenting about being connected by fate is ooc for him and not really stalking but it is very yandere of him so im throwing it in here anyways

and of course i have to add the death t invitation because you know he was watching yugi and his friends that whole day just waiting for the perfect moment to hack into something and invite him as dramatically as possible (however i wont add any of the death t stuff cuz like. we know what happens and how obsessive he is there)

since having this in my drafts, the season 0 movie has been restored and posted to youtube and in it kaiba is technically looking out for rare cards but even then he's managing to get in some time to stalk yugi (also the way his employee says "i know sir" i just know they're so tired of his obsessive ass)

thoughts on bruce x jack drake?

hello anon apologies for the late reply but when i first received this ask i immediately assumed there was a leak in mine and @plutoslvr messages because we were literally talking about it about two seconds beforehand. i could barely sleep that night.

my thoughts are that old man yaoi is so enjoyable when it's just slightly ridiculous and entirely impossible. there are three ideal sections of the brujack ship (enjoyed by population NO ONE, apparently, but with our combined efforts i imagine we can spark this flame):

rivals to lovers

bruce wayne vs wanting to bone people who want him dead

doomed by the narrative

1. rivals to lovers.

bruce and jack competing in the worlds most intense "who is the best average-leaning-towards-okay dad" battle. trying to outperform in casual "okay dad" actions to win "okay dad" points from tim, something that is totally normal and entirely possible (jack is always in the lead and bruce has not yet realised that he will never overtake him).

this one is so fucking funny to me. silly events such as them fighting on who gets to take tim to his school events, comprising on taking turns (for tim's sake, not because they want to) or attending them together (the pta now think bruce wayne and jack drake are in a relationship). jacks like im taking tim to the skate park and bruce is like well i told tim i'd take him to lunch — now it's bruce and jack taking their kid to the park then lunch together and the paparazzi have no idea how to headline this.

i imagine eventually tim can't handle this truly bizarre tension filled dynamic anymore so he cancels last minute and bruce and jack are like, well, we've already booked a table at this super expensive restaurant AND that cool movie afterwards, so we might as well make use of them.

at some point the "i HAVE to one up the other guy to impress my son" becomes "i HAVE to one up the other guy to impress our son AND so he realises how i'm obviously a catch"

i imagine eventually when they form some sort of established relationship ("do not call me your damn boyfriend, bruce, are we fifteen?") the rivalry doesn't really stop, but it's far more fond and well, tim's just glad he doesn't need to set aside two days a week to make sure he spends time with each of them.

2. bruce wayne vs wanting to bone people who want him dead

now we all know bruce's ideal type is someone who is either a) actively a danger to his life or b) was at some point more inclined to being a danger in his life or a secret third thing that is c) would become a danger to his life if pushed slightly in that direction. we've no time to psychoanalyse this but it's hardly a point that needs to be explained after taking a look at his long list of exes.

now, after this, is it truly out of the realm of possibility that after jack drake finds out that bruce wayne is the fucking batman and is to partly blame for tim's dangerous life choices he stomps over to the man's house and threatens to SHOOT HIM, that bruce wants him carnally. my exact words when reading this scene was "rather reservedly, i imagine this level of foolish and almost stupid bravery impressed bruce, regardless if it it was for entirely unselfish reasons on jack's part or if it was genuinely out of care for tim" i then say "i also think this would have moved bruce, emotionally, figuratively, poetically, sexually WOAH"

we all know that canonically when bruce falls in love or becomes even slightly interested in someone, he goes STUPID and impulsive. he's sending jack rare artefacts and really specific gifts and throwing galas with the sole purpose of inviting jack all without even considering that is actually not a normal response to have after someone threatens to kill you. perhaps he doesn't even realise this is something more than just paranoid obsession, and he tries to rationalise it like "i'm only trying to convince him to come with me to the museum so i can work out what kind of person he is in casual date settings and also to kiss him WAIT"

this one is funny if jack is just not interested at all and he's like okay what the fuck what kind of mind games is this guy trying to pull. tim is your mentor trying to tell me something through the purchase of these front seat opera house tickets and tim is like i can't believe this is real life i hope this is all a nightmare this can't be happening to me. bruce is hopelessly infatuated and jack is like don't think i won't file a restraining order against you BATMAN.

or it can get funnier if jack is like I WONT FALL FOR YOUR SEDUCTION TECHNIQUES BATMAN (proceeds to fall for batman's seduction techniques).

bonus alfred is actively praying on jacks downfall (canon) and is experiencing war flashbacks when bruce begins to display lovesick behaviour

3. doomed by the narrative

now as you may have noticed most of these work before the bright red alarm that is JACK DRAKE'S TRAGIC DEATH. his death in and of itself is already so sad, because he was changing, he was better and tim was so close to having everything he wanted, and jack was truly hopeful to be present and good to his son.

if we now throw in the mix of this shortlived romance, wherein canon bruce is already swamped with guilt about janet's death and feels as though he OWES it to tim to save jack as well, it becomes all the more heartbreaking. i would actually change nothing about how it happened in canon. jack still leaves that phone call for tim, tim and bruce still race to get to him, tim still finds his father's dead body and bruce still holds tim away from the corpse.

because the best part about this potential relationship is that it is born from the shared want to look after tim. it's what connects them and what causes any sort of interaction between them. so even at this point, bruce's first priority is tim, because it will always be tim first, but also because that is what jack would have wanted from him.

just another love for bruce to hide in his heart, let it consume and damage him, let it make him colder and harder to approach, another layer on this already unbreakable foundation. it probably causes problems between tim and bruce, for the sake of mourning but not reacting and simply because loss can make people very unkind. bruce's guilt is now more than just what he already feels for somehow failing tim, but also for not being able to save someone he loves, again.

OR jack lives au and bruce is even MORE obsessed and insufferable about it and tim literally has to help his own dad break out of the manor because batman is holding jack hostage (bedrest for almost dying).

or we have our obligatory bruce wayne "I almost lost you, so now im going to push you away for both our sake" arc to which Jack drake probably threatens to shoot bruce again and then they do it silly HAPPY ENDING EVERYONE GO HOME

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

oh my god where do i START. okay this first thing is gonna sound a bit weird. but im kind of obsessed with how much she denies herself love and close connections. LIKE I KNOW THAT SOUNDS WEIRD but its just so heart wrenching, and its so lovingly incorporated into how laura acts out her interactions with others, and it explains so much of behavior with vax and percy and the rest of vox machina, and it breaks my fucking heart. but it doesn’t mean she’s cold to those people, because she simultaneously can’t stand being alone, so she’s caught in her own opposing tides!! she’s literally tearing herself in both directions trying to find a balance between too close and too distant. and she can’t ever find it and she learns that eventually and learns to love more openly like vax and god it’s so fucking heartbreaking to watch, but laura is SO dedicated to that narrative. and i unfortunately love angst.

SOME OTHER THINGS BC THATS WEIRD: i love her relationship with trinket!! i love how he’s just her son!! plain and simple!! no one makes fun of it or questions it except for scanlan, vax is trinket’s uncle, that’s her SON. she’s raised that boy!! and she’s so loving!! and TRINKET LOVES HER!!! god it’s so good. i love that she clings to the people she loves with claws. she keeps trinket in the necklace to slow his aging, she has made an offering at EVERY RESURRECTION RITUAL (i think), she will hold tight to people she loves as long as she can and she is TERRIBLE at letting go. and she loves so strongly. and she had nightmares about what saundor said, and she holds grudges but she tries to forgive, and she knows how to sew, and she wants people to be proud of her, and she is so kind and caring to people despite her best wishes - GOD she cares so much, she loves so much and so strongly and it bubbles up out of her - and she protects people the way she knows how to with money and safety, and she carved the word forgive into her bow, and she cries when she’s angry, and she does whatever she can to get people to stay with her, and she’s brash and crass and flashes her tits and grog to inspire people, and god i’m just hopelessly in love with her. i have to cut myself off here because oh my god

21. If you’re a fic writer and have written for this character, what’s your favorite thing to do when you’re writing for this character? What’s something you don’t like?

god i LOOOOVE getting into her head and writing out her thoughts. it’s so good. she goes on little mental tangents sometimes, and i just love getting to dig into how she thinks about things. and she really does take the keyboard from me - like i’ll be writing a normal scene and she’ll be like “hey what if i thought about how i don’t deserve anything nice” and im like GIRL YOU’RE JUST SITTING AT DINNER WITH VM??? it’s so fun. and i love her voice!!! she’s got a casual tone when i write her, but not too casual?? if that makes any sense. and i get to make so many little snide remarks and snarky comments and stupid dumb jokes!!! AND. i love to use hunting metaphors. fuck yeah symbolism

i think the only thing i “don’t like” is that i stress about getting her dialogue right, i try really hard but it’s even harder sometimes when my source is live actual play!! but that also makes it a bit easier??? i dunno i stress about dialogue a LOT

22. If you’re a fic reader, what’s something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don’t like?

OOOOO hmm… i like when she’s the focus?? that might sound a bit stupid but i can’t think of any specific trope i favor over others that isn’t because i just like the genre, regardless of vex being in it. but i like when she’s like, the Point of the fic. i feel like with her two most significant dynamics, her bonds with percy and vax, a lot of fics about their relationship have vex not as the focus, but as the support? like vax got hurt, or vax got in trouble, or percy is having a nightmare, or percy is dealing with his anxieties, and vex is just here to help them or deal with it or worry about their safety and fret over them - to put it simply, vex is always the comfort part of hurt/comfort, yknow? and i guess it makes sense, because vax and percy are very angsty characters and vex does help them a lot, but vex is her own person with her own struggles!! i wanna see her going through it and getting love and support!! because yeah it’s not passing the bechdel test but that i don’t mind as much, because her relationships to these two characters who happen to be men are incredibly important to her!! and i like those dynamics!! and those dynamics aren’t important because they’re men, gender has nothing to do with it imo. although i do wonder if it does have something do with the unbalanced amount of whump being dealt to her in fics compared to percy or vax. it just frustrates me how often she has to play comfort instead of being comforted, even if her comfort is in character and is good content!! (and it’s not only because i really like whump and hurt/comfort, that’s just a part of it lol)

that kinda got into one of the things i don’t like about fanfic lol - another thing, as a bonus, is that i don’t like when she’s in the background as just an effortlessly confident character. like yeah she is confident and she is really hot and cool, but she’s also a dork!! she’s silly!! she’s sometimes reduced to “background character who offers advice and has all her shit figured out” when she hasn’t had anything figured out for years, and it just frustrates me bc it feels so shallow

12. What’s a headcanon you have for this character?

only ONE?? sorry i’m gonna give a handful. OH a recent one is that her low strength score is caused by an old injury in her arm or shoulder or something that never healed properly, so she can still draw a bow and climb a tree but it keeps her from being able to exert as much force in terms of like, heavy lifting or pushing. another one is in the basket a lot of us have for “things we think being the champion of the sun does to you” which is that i think she runs really warm after becoming champion!! which helps her deal with living up north lol. i headcanon that she has freckles and brown eyes (im sorry to the canon hazel eyes and the hazel truthers) and brown skin, that she and vax had a strong country accent as kids that they had to train to get rid of (which got vex studying languages), that she’s got sharp canines for purely self indulgent reasons, that she HATES being coddled when she’s sick and will work through it as much as she can (i talk about that here), i could go on and on. i feel like i have more but i can’t think of them at the moment!!! rahhhh

OH!! one of my big ones is that she has essentially chronic illness-type symptoms from having died so many times. they start in small ways after the tomb, but they’re honestly able to be passed off as just aches and pains or discomforts from being an adventurer up until the fourth death after the wedding, when they manifest fully. i’m still working it out in my head but my main ideas are having little moments of dissociation, seeing ghosts or things that aren’t there, dizzy spells, things like that. also i have a million scar headcanons that i want to draw one day

Another swap au whoooo. This one is partially inspired by @phenphoenix swap au (go check it out its amazing) mostly because he nailed almost exactly what I wanted this swap au husk and niffty to be like and I like the names he came up with.

(Huskers wings are the same same goes for his tail I just.. really didn't want to draw them) Anyhow in this universe niffty was the overlord i have no idea of what i tried coming up with something but couldn’t so if you have any ideas tell me please its driving me insane unfortunately for her she is still nifty and she let her obsessive tendencies get the best of her leading to her making some horrible calls that resulted in her being backed into a corner and making a deal with angel to preserve her power. Husk on the other hand still got backed into a corner due to his gambling habit but in this au he wasn't an overlord and the reason he made a deal with angel was because he owed money to his mafia due to it. He actually feels like his life has improve massively since making that deal and as such does not regret it at all Their personalities are mostly the same, just nifty being depressed and husker not being. I imagine niffty in this au is being very obsessive and in need of controlling everything in regards to that obsession while husker is much more caring and compassionate. Plus I love the idea of Husker having more feline tendencies such as him randomly dropping everything and chasing a mouse as this aus version of nifty roach obsession.

But their relationships with certain characters are very different, husker and angel are pretty close. He is grateful to Angel since as I stated before he is treated pretty well by him but while they are kind of friends their relationship never developed further due to the distance that one party straight up owning the other's soul put between them. For huskerdust to happen in this au angel would have to voluntarily give up husks soul which i dont think would happen in the near future. Niffty on the other hand is a bit resentful but mostly indifferent about angel a “could have been worse” attitude what i wanna talk about is her relationship with Alastor. She quickly becomes a good friend of his and while she is annoyed at him never fully acting like himself always wearing that smile (which she recognizes as a desperate bid for controle) their friendship doesn't have as rocky of a start as husk and angel dust in canon. But she still eventually has enough and calls out his bs in a similar manner to huskies “everyone loves to bitch to the bartender” spiel. In her case though the reason she knows so much is that people straight up forget she is there. Mostly because I think it's a lot more fitting for her plus I think it's funny. I am probably gonna draw the whole scene of her psychoanalyzing everyone once i decide who the fuck im swapping Sir pentious with becouse atm i have no idea.

Miguel hates him, probably because Noir rivals him in size and also questions the way Miguel runs things around the spider society.

(Miguel is canonically 6’9 and i hc Noir as around 6’5)

Miguel once asked (very rudely) in front of hobie, if Noir only dated Hobie because he was similar to Robbie. You can only IMAGINE what Noir almost did (aka assassinate Miguel) before he was stopped by most spider people who are loyal to Miguel. Basically, Noir went even more crazy because of that since Miguel uses Robbie as a way to get to him.

Noir in fact didn’t want to date anyone because of some stuff that happened, but when he met Hobie and got to know him, he instantly fell in love.

Miguel simply hates Noir, but can’t fire him or kick him out for no reason so Miguel picks on him until he snaps.

he acts like Peni’s older brother, being protective of her. she became depressed after he quit the spider society because she really cared about him.

most likely smokes, Peni hates it and always takes his cigarette from him to put it out. has dumped water on him multiple times. Hobie also puts out Noirs cigarette when he sees him smoking.

humor is his coping mechanism, example (my interpretation of the scenes):

when miles said his uncle was the prowler, Noir responded with “this is a pretty hardcore origin story” which sounds like he’s trying to make the situation a bit lighter by joking a bit.

as well as when aunt may asked if they could fight doc ock outside, he replied with “We don’t pick the ballroom, we just dance”

another one: when he, peni and ham met gwen, miles and peter for the first time, peter asked noir how they got there and he answered with “it’s a long story” only to say right after “maybe not that long”
