Also as fun as Halo 3 is... The Prophet of truth seems to had a serious re-write since Halo 2.

Cause in Halo 2, he seemed to know EXACTLY what the halo rings were, letting the other prophets die, and specifically cut off the heretic's message before he mentioned anything about guilty spark or anything like that.

But in Halo 3? He's just a zealous propaganda machine :/

No cool subtle hints of his plan, no vague lines that he knows he'll destroy the universe, nothing. Just "I am the bringer of the great journey!" and "I am the voice of the covenant!" and its just such a let down from the buildup of his whole arc from Halo 2

I said a while ago. Hold on is it in my tag. YES okay so when I was talking about halo 2 a while ago I said that it felt like 2 was Bungie trying to expand on all of the ideas they had for CE. And they had a lot of trouble with that bc of how rushed they were.

3 feels like the successful version of that, with the stipulation that it’s trying to wrap up all of the plot points from the previous games. I think CE was the tight-knit concept, 2 was the stage where they spaghetti’d that concept way out, and 3 was the point where they shaved down things to finish the series. A LOT of stuff got- cut isn’t the right word- simplified. But all of these things are still recognizable. You don’t play as the arbiter unless you’re playing with another person but he’s there next to you. They made the models slightly less detailed but thank god because 2 on original graphics was kind of nasty in the cutscenes. I think Truth got the same treatment, mostly because he has less screen time. He’s less detailed than he was in 2, but I do think he’s characterized the same.

He is very aware of how all of the forerunner tech works- he knew exactly where to go and what to do to open the portal to the Ark. He’s still manipulative, actively hiding the details of the great journey even when he’s got Johnson’s hand on the trigger. The line, “but that secret died with all the rest,” is an insane one, because doubly proves that he knew the heretic was right about the rings.

It would have been so cool if he was just as subtle in his manipulations as he was in 2, but by the time he gets to earth he is desperate. The Covenant got cut in half, he was just being chased around his own ship by the demon, and he’s scrabbling to activate the portal on his enemies’ homeworld. Then on the Ark he’s under the assumption that he’s already at the finish line, that he doesn’t have to keep up his facade of power for much longer. He’s still in character, it’s just warped by circumstance and squashed by the simplicity of the game.

i’m going to be honest i do not know if i have the passion for pokemon X to go into meticulous detail like usual and towards the end of my playthrough i was really starting to feel burned out on it so this post is gonna be kinda short and discussing my admittedly mixed feelings (shoutout to XY stans im so glad you love this game, this post is very subjective)

first, here’s all my hall of fame stuff and whatnot. i spent 51 hrs on the main campaign - the pic of my trainer card was taken directly after beating the game and the pics of my team were taken right before the league.

despite having mixed feelings abt this playthrough i did get really attached to my team, Sai, Knife, and Taser in particular :]

it’s worth noting that afaik i caught every single encounter available in the game before beating it, including tuesday exclusive rotom and thursday exclusive banette. and shortly before beating the game i ascended to Duchess rank in the battle chateau

i also farmed a metric fuckton of berries and did some other tasks so suffice to say i have interacted w this game’s features a lot

all that being said i have two main takeaways from beating X again for the first time in a decade and one is gameplay related and the other is story related

first, gameplay wise, i was surprised by how easy X is - i think “pokemon is too easy now” is a tired criticism that isn’t usually accurate or fair, but it’s really hard not to feel that way about this game in particular, coming from experience with playing both modern and old pokemon games extensively as an adult. this game definitely isn’t balanced around its own exp all and there are SOOOO many trainers to fight which means if you like fighting all the trainers when possible (which i do, and i dont have issues like this in other pokemon games) you overlevel extremely quickly. i’m unsure if XY was balanced without it first or something, but this is definitely an issue i haven’t seen to this extent since. i am aware i could have played with it off but since it’s the first pokemon game to have it and it’s given to you so early i wanted to see what the intended experience was with it on

on top of that, all gym leaders only have 3 pokemon! most boss battles in the game had so few pokemon, it honestly felt strange. i love gym battles and stuff in pokemon games, i love using unorthodox strategies and going in underleveled for fun, and i play every pokemon game on set mode w no items in battle by default casually so there’s almost always some sort of thinking i have to do, but w X i was so overleveled and the gym leaders had so few pokemon that for the most part it was just spamming A for a minute and then it was over. at the very least when i beat the league i had some fun with it and set up with my unevolved skiddo w bulk up to tear through diantha’s team

bc of how braindead battles were for me in this playthrough i mainly got enjoyment from pokedex completion which is something i always find fun and X is no exception - most of those 51 hrs are probably me looking for rare hordes and whatnot, i had a blast with the encounter variety in this game and trying to collect everything possible as i went. i also thought the berry fields and battle chateau were super cool and i interacted w those a lot daily. there’s a lot i could say about the smaller features too, super training, amie, the PSS (best online service for pokemon ever btw), o powers, restaurants in lumiose, etc, but i don’t have the energy to get into it rn. suffice to say when X’s side features they shine, they do really shine, even though i found the main campaign underwhelming

as for story…

when i started this playthrough all i really remembered from playing this game when i was 13 was the post-e4 sequence with AZ (still made me tear up as a 24 year old lol) and the cool xerneas encounter cutscene, and they are definitely the highlights of this game because the story of XY is what i was most disappointed by, i was really hoping i’d find new appreciation for it despite what everyone says about the story being weak and i really did try so it’s a little frustrating the game just didn’t deliver

yeah the pacing is weird and the rivals might as well have the depth of cardboard cutouts (one note and completely unable to be characterized outside of their roles) but that’s not really my main issue w the game. i don’t think i picked up on this stuff as a 13 year old but as an adult playing i was really uncomfortable with pokemon trying to make a story about literal genocide and eugenics but handling it so carelessly. like some of the dialogue actively disturbed me and i don’t think the writing is good enough to convey the nuance of what it’s TRYING to say, especially to kids, which i think is necessary for topics like this

i assume that they were trying to say something about the obliviousness of adults and people in general because of Sycamore being so blindly trusting of Lysandre and also totally incapable of accomplishing anything himself (seriously how did anyone like this guy, it must solely be because he’s french and hot, dude dropped out of learning about mega evolution bc he just Gave Up, and then he shoved that on some kids as if it was new research but it wasn’t, and then when lysandre tries to commit genocide his apology is so halfassed and Nothing, and also dialogue implies he’s not even doing professor shit he’s just goofing off while you save the world and do his research for him, it’s not charming it’s Annoying and irresponsible) but god damn i dont think it came off how they intended. all of the adults in this game are blind to what’s going on (even having their holocasters spied on) and give sympathy to Eugenics Man but even after the world is saved, new NPCs after the fact still express sympathy to Lysandre and the main characters like Sycamore don’t properly make up for their behavior. the game’s writing just sort of excuses everyone being a dipshit about literal eugenics and doesn’t properly apologize to the children who took a stand (the apologies given were basically nothing) in a way that i think is genuinely irresponsible considering the subject matter. it’s one thing for a pokemon game to have lackluster writing and another for it to have shitty writing when something so analogous to real life like this is involved. plus the plot moves on from the events of team flare so quickly it just feels Silly tbh and its not helping the writing’s case

idk i think XY had some interesting lore and history (btw that museum in lumiose city is super cool) and the potential with AZ was crazy and that post-e4 sequence still hits like a train, but the poor handling of the eugenics topic and the shitty pacing really took me out of it. i’m glad that after this pokemon scaled back the sheer gravity of its subject matter just a bit because oof

if i wrote this directly after beating the game my thoughts would probably be more organized so sorry if this isn’t making my points effectively but yeah idk. i’m still on and off working on my friend safari and i plan to do more in X eventually but for now i am good

I did!! it's so much fun so far. it's been quite a few years since I played a proper action/adventure video game like that (besides minecraft but even then I've only played minecraft like a handful of times in the past few years) and I'm having such a good time

there's so much in this game. like I've been playing a lot the past week and I feel like I'm still fairly early on in the game. I'm also very into the story I've only seen a few memory cutscenes with Zelda so far but I love her she deserves the world

REALLY enjoyed the parallels between Ángel and Coli, ESPECIALLY Marigold ? i think ?. pointing out the similarities in their eyes. BC !!! it was smth i did notice how like those 2 were the only ones who had those portraits where they were like all EYES. and also in the sorta cutscene things ofc Nadia had his eyes BUT ÁNGEL DID TOO !!! so thats so sick that thats like a THING like Coli and Ángel DO have some similarities. ofc not a LOT. but some. MAN thats so cool cuttlephone did an AWESOME job at the music and you did an absolutely AMAZING job with the story and the dialogue and the art ¬!!!!! so cool how its evolved from the comic GOD its just so cool to have seen the very beginning of the game development all the way up to playing all the endings ITS SO SICK !!!!! ^_^

this isnt from their costume its from a cutscene from the update a few months ago but theres a scene from this one camping update where they say they remember camping with their family as a kid and that they studied in the tent the whole time GIRL!!!! they were STUDYING while camping and they say it all proudly like they see nothing wrong with it like its a completely normal and reasonable thing to do Their ass is NOT relaxing!!!

T'zekhwalker - Final Zenos Fight

i spent so much time here it needed its own post. i'd be lying if i said this one scene wasn't a main reason i pushed t'zekh through the main story (the other was i wanted him to get to 90/get the rdm artifact gear so he could wear his canon glam but you know)

so, some background for folks who are new here: t'zekh was the main wol for stormblood. he was the one zenos became obsessed with, and he has spent most of endwalker trying to get zenos to leave him alone. he knows zenos desperately wants t'zekh to kill him--to come at him with fire and rage and bloodlust--but t'zekh refuses to kill anyone no matter how much they deserve it.

i had been waiting so long for t'zekh to be able to do this dialog choice and the answer i had envisioned for him actually changed from the time i did this with aoife. originally i'd thought he'd go with option 2, but by the time i got here, 3 was more his style.

which ended up being a good thing, because zenos's response to that answer was fucking perfect for t'zekh

small aside--it drove me bonkers back when spoiler embargo first lifted and ppl (mostly on twitter) were INSISTING that answer 1 was the only possible canon answer and if you picked any of the others you were clearly playing the game wrong. even despite yoshi p confirming that there was no "correct" answer and the team had tried to write it so that players could respond to zenos the way they felt best reflected their own character's experience. people were STILL out there like "sorry but if you didnt pick option 1 you're just wrong"

so to see the text validate my choice and my hcs so perfectly has me feeling vindicated in this chilis. it is okay for people to have a different experience of the game than you!!! (i'll get off my soapbox now)

option 3 was perfect for t'zekh because he is finally fed up enough with zenos that he's finally willing to cast aside his moral opposition to killing in order to make sure zenos can't hurt anyone else in his name.

and zenos caught on to that and responded in kind.

anyway then i took a fucktillion pictures in the instance (most of which i'll put on my wol blog)

it was so hard to get them in the same frame lmao

and then i did the solo fight! not too bad on red mage, surprisingly enough - was very thankful to have vercure though lmao

this punch is still just as satisfying the second time

On my way to the last credits sequence i learned that you will actually fuck up the music timing if you skip or speed up the credits. it was playing revenge twofold when it was supposed to be playing flow together. that was very jarring. i don't know why they haven't set it to just start playing flow together for that sequence. dont skip the credits folks

and that's a wrap! i uhhh might have abandoned him before finishing out the quest so i could go farm memoria misera with aoife but im very happy to have (technically) beaten Endwalker with him before the year ended, which was one of my goals.

I think I started main story with him in January, so it's taken me about a year to get through... mostly what set me back was i had to make time/build emotional strength to make progress through parts I knew would be difficult emotionally. But I committed to not to skipping any cutscenes and just pressing on through a second read, and I'm glad to have embarked on this journey.

as soon as i finished endwalker the first time i knew it was going to be equally aoife and t'zekh's story. they both ended up having stakes in the plot in different ways, and getting to play through and see things from t'zekh's perspective was so much fun.

i still keep thinking abt the version of the ending in my head, wherein t'zekh is lying at the edge of the universe and all he can think is "i want to live, dammit!!"

and he hears a voice calling out to him.

"there you are!" aoife shouts, "I was looking all over for you!"

T'zekh has spent so much of the story kind of in aoife's shadow, grappling with what it means to be a "hero" in his own way. he spent a lot of stormblood resenting her absence.

but by the end of endwalker… i think they end up really close friends

finished agnea's story! oops it got really long

honestly it was exactly what i was hoping for from her, it was just a good time. every time she was onscreen something fun and cute was happening & the scene in her chapter 4 with the theater manager is actually the funniest cutscene so far. i dont wanna just compare all the characters i like to ot1 characters but i will do that anyway, she feels like the successor to tressa in that her story and character are straightforward in a way that makes the story feel very satisfying and you just get to have a very good time.

but yeah to compare her to primrose . i cannot overstate how much of an improvement this is over ot1's Everything. the orientalism in ot1's treatment of dancers & primrose's story where shes a white girl who has been sex trafficked into a middle eastern belly dancer brothel and she spends the entire game in the ugliest iteration of that stereotypical costume imaginable and all of her subclass outfits are just that made out of different colored fabric like fuck. dude. i cant overstate how much that was the worst part of the game and im not even getting into the rest of primroses' story's frankly sickening misogyny. so yeah the bar was in the earth's core almost anything they did would have been an improvement but boy did they improve! despite its ugly ass outfits dancer was one of my favorite classes in 1 and despite cleric stealing its best support skill(CLERIC STOLE STEAL SP TOO.FUCKER) and its other best support skill being removed, the class itself is still one of my favorites and i think it handled the transition to having more complex skills really well where it feels like dancer got more options without sacrificing utility, so i am so SO fucking glad it is now on a character i can enjoy and that its outfits are now really cute and fun and just ouuuugh . dagger dance and ruinous kick are the real stars but i also really like dancer having the wind skill because . you know. when you move around the air goes swish. instead of the dark skill because we really need to rub it in that dancing is Shameful and Horny.

oh but also on that topic while i still dont like allure because i just. dont like summonable npcs. i actually like how it and entreat are treated and i think it really benefits from agnea's story's MUCH lighter tone where it becomes an endearing character trait instead of feeling like you have a misogyny button but, most importantly, the fact that she fucking likes dancing!!!!!!

primrose isnt even a dancer. she does not like dancing, she's only "a dancer" as a disguise in the intro chapter and then for literally the entire rest of the story it is completely superficial so we have an excuse to put the little pixel lady in a walmart princess jasmine costume. agnea IS a dancer, her story is about dancing, and her story enjoys dance and performance and wants to show you reasons why people enjoy dance and performance. again this is not a high bar but after 1 million years of ot1 primrose-related agonies i was crying with tears of joy to have a female character who is allowed to know what sex is without it being a fucking nightmare. throné's treatment had made me really concerned that agnea's story was just gonna be More of the Same so i was very pleasantly surprised.

so far agnea's story is also the one that most feels like it NEEDED to be in 2 where there's a lot more custom animations and songs and you can do interesting things with the camera angle. for the dancer character to reach its full potential they very much needed to be able to actually visibly dance along with music which agnea can actually do and the autoplay mode means you can get the experience of seeing a character actually dance along to a song. the dances are relatively simple but theyre used well enough that it feels stylized instead of trying to approximate for something they cant actually animate. also the one thing i will say about primrose is that her final boss is one of the most interesting in terms of mechanics... in theory, in practice the first phase was pretty boring and the second phase was the most annoying piece of shit motherfucking stupid bullshit because there are only two articulate stones in the entire game and silence is the second hardest normal status to deal with and the whole thing felt annoying in an "im going to bite my switch in half" way instead of a "man i cant wait to come up with a creative way to work around this insane gimmick" way and it's not like it had any thematically interesting meaning outside of simeon wanting you to be quiet because get it... its a theater . which fuck off. dolcinea has a move with the same joke but its like a one-off joke move with her actual mechanics playing into the thing i really liked with darius in 1 where he was a boss version of a Thief except that dolcinea also gets to have the boss version of agnea's path action which is really cool! actually i've liked basically all the final bosses so far(throné's is by far my least favorite, his gimmick couldve been cool but its not very interestingly implemented) but i think dolcinea is probably my favorite after trousseau

but yea honestly im finding it hard to talk about her in the same way i found it hard to talk about casttia bc its just like... no notes. they set out to make a fun feel-good story about a humble country-girl dancer trying to make it big to follow in the footsteps of her mother and on the way she finds a colorful cast of secondary characters and all the experiences she has with them ultimately allow her to win the big dance contest against the big mean rich dancer who was actually a poor girl once too but whose fame has failed to fix the hole in her heart but then the protagonist and all her friends come together to show the big mean rich girl dancer the true joy of dancing and then everything is okay, and then they did exactly that and it was pretty good!

Done with the first quest of the event just as the second one is out, but I'll be doing that later cause— story time!

I was close to 5* pity on the chronicled wish, and me being me, thought that "oh Baizhu's really pretty— ahem, I mean he works great with Furina!" which is good because my best teams are dendro related (my bias is showing again—) and I was like "dope, I'll pull, and hope I get either Baizhu, or perhaps Shenhe for my Ganyu and future Wriothesley!"

...I was still in the process of leveling up Mavuika, and slowly Sethos too, but Baizhu snatched up first priority— HE CAME HOMEE!!!!

Yes, so now I'm indecisive between spending resin on the exp books for Mavuika or Baizhu, and leveling up Baizhu's weapon talents plus his ascension too haha...

Well, at least he's home and he really goes heal a lot, I get the fanfare stacks so quickly stacked I'm actually quite impressed!!

And I also played the Natlan AQ and... and... omg... (I suppose I'll be vague in case you haven't played it yet, so no worries for spoilers!)

I've seen a lot of people complaining about it— and the rest going on about "capitano please be playable!" (the latter being so relatable—), so I was actually kinda confused with the mixed reactions, and so stayed away from spoilers as much as I could (although little tid-bits here and there were unavoidable), but I'd say I was pretty much on the edge of my seat for the cutscenes because— they're great?! I mean, I kinda understand some people's points that we didn't really connect with the Natlan playable characters, for example the way we did in Fontaine— but imo I think I do quite like the Natlan cast and the nation too, so I'm kinda confused with the whole thing, but anyways— I had fun! I hope you do/did too!!

Speaking of which, the 5.4 livestream!! Wriothesley's back after being locked away in hoyo's cryo jail!!! Which means I'm not pulling for Arlecchino anymore... so that means Xiangling can continue enjoying the fancy polearm... (And speaking of fancy polearm, side eyes alt account where the vortex vanquisher is being passed around as the underleveled polearm characters as they decide what to do with it...)

Oh this ask got kinda long oopies hehe— anyways, January is coming to a close already... wow time really does fly (I won't say when you're having fun because I was studying for my bio exam which actually went really well but that does nothing to soothe my worries because— gets bonked for overthinking.)

all in all this was a fun ass campaign my goodness gracious spearmaster i love you so much EVEN THOUGH GOING BACK AND FORTH FROM FIVE PEBBLES TO MOON TO FIVE PEBBLES AGAIN AND THEN BACK TO MMOON + OTHER PLACES WAS HELL when you ignore trying to beat the game its so fun to just Kill. honestly im glad i didnt know you had to bring the pearl to moon and the key item passaging cause like just adventuring throughout the entire world with an infinite amount of spears and killing everything was so fun. ALSO being able to travel to diff places you couldnt before with spears was rlly fun to figure out spearmaster you will be my foreverv ever erver erverrr coolest slugcat everrrr spearmmmast..e.r.... ugly ass needle rat it actually used to be my least favorite before i even got into rainworld cause i thought it looked ugly but when i got rainworld and found out it creates bone needle spears from its tail i was like "YOU . IN MY POCKET NOW" also bonus rainworld meadow mod i got before beating this campaign. stood up so late just wawaing with other scugs and also went to five pebbles with the help of some red guy (i softlocked myself because five pebbles turned off the gravity and kept trying to kill me even though i was immortal)

i did most of my liveposting on twitter, so if you saw that you'll know that i:

tried/am trying to do¹ as much of the content as possible in my first run of the game

savescummed to see all 4 endings i had unlocked (fracture/duskborn/despair/stars)

Did Not Like Most Of Them.

im sure this is a common take, but going through this amazing intensive journey just for a 20 second cutscene was a huge letdown; im so glad i savescummed for the elden lord endings back to back, bc if i had fully replayed a longass game to see the same thing reskinned with almost no dialogue changes i would have been fucking furious. im a little less mad now- having fun in the dlc cemented the journey > destination aspect- but im still spending a lot of time analyzing the missed potential there.

from a purely technical perspective i guess it kind of makes sense that they had to be vague and brief. 90% of the story and worldbuilding is up to the player to find and interpret, and the 10% that's directly conveyed by the mandatory plot is nearly always colored by what perspective it's coming from- it would be hard to go into any detail about the repercussions of your actions without telling you information you're supposed to find on your own³. still, they could have at least shown more of the world than just leyendell. it's not like we don't do any mainline exploring.

the main wobbly bit for me is, obviously, the content of the endings. it fully makes sense that age of fracture is bland as shit. it's the ending you get if you, the player, don't engage with the world: you speak to who you have to and no one else, do what is asked of you and no more, accept what you are told without examining it or questioning it- and are rewarded with the cycle continuing. the ambiguous power of your rule has nothing to do with you, and the world remains suspended in its decay. same as it ever was. i didn't get the age of order ending⁴ but from what i can tell from external resources it also makes sense for that to be Off as well. the basis is that the cycle is perpetuated not just by marika and the golden order, but as an extension of the greater will itself, and things are only screwed up now because everyone up to now just didn't do it right. but, y'know, you're special, you're chosen, you understand it all- surely you'll be the one to succeed! and then you don't, because the world is like this by design.

blessing of despair being an elden lord ending makes substantially more sense in light of the dlc. granted, i had a lot of detail comprehension issues on this one, bc it didn't click for me that the curse was omen related⁵ until someone pointed it out way later and i checked the wiki. even then, it was still confusing as to how that existed within the existing power framework, because fucking with the rebirth cycle seems like it's going if not directly against the greater will's hold on things, then at least yanking it off course. but! the introduction of the hornsent makes it crystal clear that the notion of horns being a curse at all is a cultural thing⁶ specifically because marika has personal beef with them. spreading omen-ness as a ~horrifyingly evil defilement~ only works within the existing framework, and by itself doesn't require any significant structural changes. same shit as always, but more people have horns now.

that being said: this being an elden lord ending is boring as hell. like it works, it lines up lore-wise, but it's got a lot of missed potential. without retrofitting the dlc lore the closest tie the omens have is to the crucible itself, which is totally powerful enough to exist in opposition to the greater will, we could have had a total return to the primordial ending, that would have been really cool!! the tree could have sprouted horns!! dlc could imply the hornsent being revived as a culture in the way that age of stars implies the nox coming back!!!! it would be coooooool-

anyway. im bitter that the duskborn was an elden lord ending. im still sorting through the specifics of death/destined death/death getting split in half, so i don't have a concrete argument for why it's bullshit or what the alternative would be, i just think that quest was way too involved for it to get the same 20 seconds of nothing that the other 3 got. if you're going to kill off 3 of the best characters in the game you could at least have the decency to give some sort of payoff <- objective sentence written by someone with no biases. (¬_¬).

i completely get why people are Like That about ranni- she wasn't even my favorite character while i was playing, but my affection towards her skyrocketed because the age of stars ending is so blatantly The Good One!! that and lord of frenzied flame⁷ are the only two that are anything!!! it didn't have to be like this!!!!

this has completely devolved into bitching. oops. anyway. i don't really have a closing statement for this or anything, im just halfway through compiling a timeline/lore dump and wanted to jot down my thoughts, and then make them everyone else's problem lmao.

¹ not done with the dlc yet, my save got corrupted² partway through shadow keep and i had to restart from the backup i used to savescum. ² fun fact: if your computer crashes/shuts down unexpectedly while the save file is loading it irreparably fucks your data ³ a bitch can dream about what it would have been like if they filtered the ending dialogue by tracking exactly what you found and who you spoke to but that's a MASSIVE undertaking development wise, they were never gonna fucking do that. ⁴ corhyn left the hold and i forgot he existed lol. i tried to find him when i realized he was Actually Relevant, but i didn't immediately spot him and didn't care enough to try harder. sorry goldmask, im sure you're chill. or something. ⁵ i didn't visually parse the seedbeds as having horns, and since i didn't do seluvius's subquest or reload the area after getting the rune, i never got his armor, which tells you directly what was up. i kinda thought he was covered in teeth. ⁶ the game actually does a pretty decent job pointing out that the human vs nonhuman dichotomy is more like... tribalistic? there's probably a better word for it- than anything else. the misbegotten aren't attacking everyone on sight because they're animalistic ane inherently evil, they're violently rebelling because humans have been keeping them as slaves. the "not saints, just on the losing side of a war" comment leda makes applies to pretty much all sides, including the ones we relate to. ⁷ i'm actively avoiding looking into that one too much, because im planning on getting it my second playthrough and i want to go in with clean eyes. which is surprisingly easy to do, it's super split off from the stuff im trying to dissect.

So last night I played Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 past midnight, checked socials to find... first impressions of the borderlands movie are grim.

So Randy Pitchford's shootloot the movie is gonna be out soon and the initial trailers dont promise much. I have zero interest in watching this, mainly because Id like to avoid too much of the randy grease. And if you think im being harsh, bear in mind that the first impressions are out now and they arent great. No thanks im good.

I kid, Doom 3 isn't necessarly a bad game, it took a risk by forgoing the high octane shooting for a slower horror feel and it didnt really catch on. Early on in the game in mars city, you can come across a small cafeteria and an arcade cabinet containing the beast known as STTP3.

You punch the turkey, you punch it till it explodes. Another turkey spawns. Repeat the process. And if you get the rhythmdown, you get more points cause thats what it is, a classic high-score based arcade game. Keep at it until you get a high score and HR tells you off. I managed to go as high as this until I called it around 12:30am.

Y'know what? Who has the highest score on STTP3? Did anyone max out the score? Lemme just look this up and...

Ok yeah I was nowhere close to that..

Yeah so, I was going to do doom 3 but figured I try to get a high score on the turkey puncher for the bit and use this time to talk about something D3 related. Mainly the mod scene, cause while the latter games has a whole collection of mods and fanprojects, Doom 3, or atleast the non-bfg edition one, had a ton of mods itself. You had that odd Duck Nukem mod, the Bubba Hotep one, you had that mod that turned Doom 3 into a Thief game and you had that one that turned it into an imsim.

I never really touched on those mods, at the time I got game mods along with indie games and demos from the PCGamer discs that used to come with the magazine.

I wanna spend some time talking about three Doom 3 mods that I remember fondly and would to share with you all today.

First up is Doom 3 Classic: (https://www.moddb.com/mods/classic-doom-3), which is a mod that recreates the first episode of the original Doom in Doom 3. This was to be honest, the first time I acutally played Doom 1. I wasnt aware the first episode was freeware at the time, so this mod was my first exposure to it. The one great thing about this mod however was its intro cutscene. They didnt need to make it but i'm glad they did.

Next up is Last Man Standing: (https://www.moddb.com/mods/last-man-standing-coop), a mod for Doom 3 that adds online co-op for the game. You can go through the main story of Doom 3 with other people as well the Resurrection of Evil expansion, some custom made wave survival maps. In fact the last mod I just talked about is actually supported by this mod. Definatly was a lot of fun playing this online but you wanna know something else? This mod has a theme song and it kicks ass.

If I had a nickel for everytime a Coop mod for a first person shooter has an awesome menu theme, I would be recreating the doofensmirtz meme, which is a bit overused but its funny when the opportunity comes up.

Last but not least, this one was one that i've played the most because it delivered a lot of gameplay. While completly changing Doom 3 in many ways. DungeonDoom! (https://www.moddb.com/mods/dungeondoom)

DungeonDoom was a mod that changed the game into a rougelike fps-rpg hybrid with a collection of different game types and classes to choose from. A shop to buy items, quests to do and a big procedurally generated dungeon to go through. Heck one of the classes you can choose to play turns it into a sort of card rpg where you can summon monsters and use spells. This mod was just fantastic and I loved playing every minute of it.

So yeah, those were the Doom3 mods of my youth. Loved playing them and I hope this encourages someone to check them out. You need the old version of Doom 3, not the bfg edition in order for them to run. Hopefully you have some fun playing these 15+ year old mods............... oh god.

Please stop making the first hour of your videogame 50% cutscenes Typing this out during the 4th long unskipable cut scene at the very start of ghost of tsushima. Some games take a long time to download so ive already been waiting to play all day. Now i have to suffer through an hour of boring story exposition and an hour of teaching me how to jump before i can actually feel like im just PLAYING A GAME. All I've done so far is hold forward to walk behind a character and learn to crouch but oh I'm so glad I know my characters whole family backstory already! 99% of videogames have basic boring writing anyway. If I wanted to sit and watch a story I'd be watching a MOVIE. Your a GAME be a game first. Gears of war just drops you right into the game and THEN tells you the story once youve decided its fun enough to be worth your time, thats how it should be done.
