Hi!!!! I Love love love your fic, and I have a question! An inquiry if you must lol. I was reading the tags again, and I noticed the skip Westcott tag. Are you going to approach the topic? Like, other than Peter suffering that trauma, when he eventually opens up to the bat family, will he talk about it?? Will dick talk about his own experience with Tarantula? I'm so excited to see your take since you put some hints that skip was maybe his caretaker at some point? Like foster dad or maybe I'm genuinely just tripping and mixing with other fics.

ALSO incredibly excited to see what happened to him with the experiments!!! It's extremely vague but im so needing that angst!!!! I really want to see more of Peter's life before coming to Gotham, before even meeting Tony!

(warning for under the tag: talking about Skip Westcott and Tarantula, which covers the topic of SA. please take care of yourself)

Peter will eventually talk about Skip Westcott. I can't say how much he says because I haven't actually written the conversation yet, but at the moment, it's more alluded to that it is talked about. It's a conversation for way later in another part of the series I have planned for LoF, which actually has an entire plotline about Peter's past and how it connects to his future. But he will open up and talk about it at some point. I think in the road trip arc (chapter 15 I think?) I have it planned for Peter to talk about Skip in some context with Dick (mainly, he tells Dick the most he's ever told anyone about the day he was bit by the spider), but not fully.

(And if that changes, it will 100% be warned in the beginning with the other trigger warnings I put in beginning chapter notes.)

That's mostly because Peter still hasn't processed that yet. He hasn't even told his therapist (I briefly mentioned a few times in Peter's POV's that he has gone to therapy, but I should probably make sure it's known that he doesn't go so often that he's gotten through the biggest parts of his past).

As for Tarantula... I talked about this in the Lost Post (this thing disappeared???) so I should probably mention it again. But Tarantula did NOT happen in this au.

There's a huge reason for it, and that's because I hate Devin Grayson, the writer who put that shit in there. I don't want her attached to LoF in any form, even if I'm writing to bash it.

That's not saying that Dick isn't still a survivor of SA. He's still going to have that be a part of his past as well, with some of the other instances. (There's another instance with Catwoman that's just... no.) So I'm not erasing that part of his history. I just hate Devin Grayson.

Which means that when Dick does find out (and he will), there's gonna be a big reaction. For the most part, when it comes to What Happened, I won't be going into details, nor flashbacks, stuff like that. It'll be about the impact of those times, and how Peter and Dick are recovering, though they do talk about it.

Also, Skip was Peter's last foster parent before Tony, you're right. He's probably just a little older than Dick, I'd say, around mid thirties? He was responsible for Peter for a little while but Peter ended up running away that day he got bit, and Skip hasn't fostered since.

And as for the experiments: I'm excited to write about it more. Peter and Dick also talk about this, and in some more detail than the Westcott talk. It's about time that Dick learned how Tony got Peter's complete trust,,,, a little sneak peak into that,,,, :)

There's actually so much about Peter's backstory that I sometimes wonder if there's things that I wouldn't be able to get to in LoF... It just means that I've been considering writing a prequel one day

How do you think Jays memory loss (and shattering but I think his memory loss might be more relevant. Might) is gonna tie to his larger character arc. Because from I seen doc has said that there IS a reason as to why they chose Jay to lose his memories out of all the ninja to give him quality character development and I’m wondering how him not remembering his previous life will specifically connect to his character and how they’ll use this aspect to better build on it.

What u been thinking is that maybe it ties to him relearning his loyalty to his family as a whole, relearning or reinforcing his values. Like, even if he forgot everything he’s still gonna have the spirit he has and the sense to protect those he allies himself with. I say allies because if he DOESNT get his memories back, he might just see the ninja as that at the beggining, before eventually getting the trust again, uk what I mean? But honesty I’m rlly not sure and I haven’t analyze jays character as much as other ppl like u so I wanna know what u think cuz im like, a little lost tbh

First of all, I think that out of all the ninjas to lose their memories, Jay was an obvious choice. Not only because they wanted to subvert Jaya's tragedy with Nya being the one in the grieving process this time, but because Jay's character needed SOMETHING, a long arc that would polish and redefine who he is, in a literal sense.

Zane and Nya are out of the question because they've already done this arc with them (s11 and s15), Cole has essentially completed his character development, Lloyd is obviously not an option, and with Kai it really wouldn't be that impactful. This is a chance to reinvent Jay's character after so many seasons of him being just the comic relief who lost a lot of the aspects that made him an interesting character. It was a good oportunity to give him more development considering this will probably be about a reformation, redemption, and self-discovery arc (I mean, considering they don't rewind it all in one episode, which I doubt.)

Whether the buildup has been good or not is another question, but yes, there is a lot more you can do with Jay and all the building up of his identity tied to his past that hasn't been done with the rest and I think that was the reason they did it.

There's also a good reason they chose the Administration for him to end up there, and that's because according to Doc it's based on Kafka's "The Trial": a meaningless world where nothing matters and the protagonist is essentially lost in a labyrinth. The worst place for Jay to end up, because his most important themes have always been about family and if you take that away, well; he's completely alone and has nothing to hold on to.

So I want to believe that Jay's arc will be about discovering who he is, what his powers mean, what his role is on the team if he ever wants to come back, what his reason for fighting for is, what his greatest strengths are as a person (loyalty, resilience, his wit, which is why I hope we get Inventor Jay back). We haven't seen much of him as a character so far, but I WANT to believe that in s3 we will see these traits. That even without memory, Jay is still himself, only he has changed because of all the things that have happened to him since the Merge.

I don't want to confuse my hopes with what's most likely to happen, but if I had to guess, between getting Jay's memory back and saving his soul, I think the ninjas will go with the second option first. Assuming both things don't happen at the same time. Considering having his soul shattered is way worse and makes him vulnerable to rox, etc, I really don't think they'll get his memory back first before healing his soul.

In any case, I really think if jay is going to get his memories back it'll be after starting over with the others because I really feel like they're going to go the route of having him have to relearn a lot of things from scratch, with the ninjas having to deal with all these new changes and the possibility that: Jay may never get his memory back... But that should not stop them from starting over from scratch and for him to be loyal to them again as before.

With Jay always being the most morally questionable of the team, I'd say there's a chance we might see him learn to put others' needs before his own, in the same way I think Nya's arc will be to be more selfish than always choosing her duty but thats off topic.

you try and deny that anything is wrong because you really don't wanna tell them the truth but you've got two stubborn bastards and an overly concerned paul on your hands so good luck

eventually you all but scream the truth at them before bursting into tears

it didn't even last one year of university

what you aren't expecting however, is for arthur to step forward and gently prise your hands away from your face

he looks at you with a soft smile before confessing that he feels the same way and has done for a while now

you look at him with teary eyes before asking if paul & dino feel the same because you know it'll hurt having only one and not all three

the two of them are by your sides in an instant, promising that they do and they also like arthur too

its a mess that takes forever to sort out (you do have groceries you need to put away after all) but before long, you four are a happy lil quartet

paul is very studious no matter what, dino is very studious when he's alone and arthur is the most unstudious person ever but he's surprising very good at passing his exams despite that

you can expect a lot of cuddles and affection when you're dating these three

if you don't share any classes, one of them will always try and meet you after class

shared study sessions in your dorm room surrounded by snacks and takeout are not that uncommon (they usually turn down the sexual path very quickly though)

exam/class passes are celebrated with plenty of drinking or food or sex, depending on your preference

failures are celebrated with plenty of cuddles and random movies to fill the silence and muffled your tears if need be

the three of them planned out a big party for when you graduate and it's full of everyone you and they know aka a lot of people

you four have plenty of fun together and, before long, you find yourselves discussing future life plans together

as someone doing my (deliberately very slow) second watch of s2 of due south with the expectation that s3-4 will be something to save for the new year somewhen, there's something very interesting about knowing a very little bit about those seasons: ray goes undercover in las vegas i believe, and leaves the show as a main, but returns at times. how many times? i don't know, don't tell me -- meg gets a cute butchy haircut that makes her and fraser's gender vibes even more intense -- there's a new guy and he is also ray, but the other one, and i get the feeling that there's a bit of role-reversal in who is getting whomst to take better care of themself... maybe

i think the way i've ended up watching the show (in no small part because im semi-communally watching with @gjdraws and eventually @hunkydorkling (no rush)) as being nice and drawn out, means ive really gotten to bask in the vibes of s1-2. they're beautiful establishing seasons that also stand on their own -- if the show's myriad of cancellations had stuck, one or two seasons would have worked (altho it would have been sad, because you do get the feeling that there is more story to tell)

it also means im definitely in a very different show to the majority of fandom, hence why ive avoided the tags and read very little fic (altho, some fic!) and only follow a couple of people, because the show, to me, is about fraser and ray vecchio because it's the only show i know (so far) and ive been marinating in that show for a few months now, to the point that im interested about how it'll feel when ray kowalski comes along

i expect i'll enjoy watching his dynamic with fraser, i expect it'll be different, and i very much expect it to feel like something that only exists because of everything that happened with fraser and ray in s1-2, because everything that fraser has gained that i feel may be relevant to that new dynamic -- self-confidence in interpersonal relationships, the ability to open up to people, the ability to stand up to people, a more grounded self, a greater self-awareness about himself as a person in the world and not just an instrument, a little battered but having begun undergoing some longer healing processes in relation to his father and victoria (and those prior relationships dealing with feelings of abandonment and manipulation/violence) -- started with ray. sometimes it literally started with ray Very Pointedly Banging A Drum about some of those things

there's a lot that's not ray ofc: his sense of right and wrong, his sense of purpose, his politeness, his gentleness, his confidence in his abilities, his single-mindedness/stubborness, his general lack of propriety (especially while solving a case) because social behaviours don't seem to be that intuitive (or important) to him (although he has that old fashioned properness to him when he's not licking things he picked up off the ground) -- but some core shifts have happened that im curious about how they'll interact with the sort of person ive gotten a sense new-ray will be (more standoffish and closed-off, initially at least, is what i think)

it's very fun to imagine how ray's influence will indelibly be on fraser, even when he's not literally there. i get the feeling that, to me, he's always gonna be the third in the room to an extent, because that's what he probably will be to me as i watch -- he's the first person outside of fraser's immediate family that truly affected him for the better and he did it by just. deciding that fraser was his responsibility, from day two (on day one i think he was still gauging him a little + he needed to make up for accidentally insulting his dead father, but hey, second impressions is what matters the most!) and then he stuck to that remit

and my first presumption/prediction is that fraser will sort of... pay that forward in a way

what's your process for coloring like? the look of that elendira is so textured and interesting, i can't figure out how you do it

AA THANK YOUU ^__^ !! textures & brushwork are my favorite things abt my art, so im happy you find it interesting hehe . its SOO cool to look at & so much fun to draw imo

i prefer to color by building in layers , if that makes sense 🤔!! hundreds of them !! such that i'm always drawing on Top of previous layers, working from big & messy blocks of color to, eventually, small and refined blocks of color until it feels processed enough. as a result, i rarely ever erase (!!) and i rarely ever draw lineart aside from the initial sketch

a rough, patchy textured brush is key here, as it'll give you dimension and variability w/ your colors. i recommend "Brush and various sets of fountain pen style (万年筆風ブラシと色々セット)" on Clip Studio (ID: 1679706) !! :3

im terrible with explanations though, so i'm going to show a step by step of that elendira drawing if you dont mind :3

sketch layer !! because i mostly render through color alone, i try to make this as close to the finished thing as possible . ^__^ i hateee drawing the same thing over and over and like the expressivity and movement of my sketches anyways , so the more i can preserve at this step, the better. if u were to look at a side by side of my sketches and finished pieces, youd notice a lot of those og lines are present in the final drawing :3

2. flats !! pretty self explanatory, but the solid background gives me an idea of where the figure begins & ends while the colors themselves help distinguish whats what . i stick to ambient lighting @ this point because im usually not sure what i want to do with the overall palette or lighting yet . having two tones (ex, dark and light in her hair or dark and light on her skin) can also help in identifying key features early on that u wanna preserve. as you build layer by layer, sometimes these areas will remain untouched and i think it makes for a rly lovely feel at the end

3. start blocking !!! to be totally honest with you, i dont really know what i do here HAHAHA. like i just scribble the shit out of it, usually focusing on what i might want to do with lighting (ex: grey areas to accentuate folds in her costume). i think i like to start "erasing" the sketch where possible by coloring on top of it .. like if you look at her hat or her arm , you can tell i'm starting to get a sense of the shapes i like vs the ones i dont. it's at this point that the final image starts to emerge in my mind , like im gradually pulling her from a tarpit of scribbles until shes recognizable lol. chipping away at the marble until i can free her. tbh.

4. keep blockingg...when u think u are done , block some more . as you can probably see, the brushwork becomes more intentional as i add more shape, with specific focus on line weight. this is also where the patchiness of that textured brush comes in - notice how none of the colors seem totally uniform (ex: the red cross or the original sketchlines for her waist). you can see bits and pieces of the layers underneath pushing through and i really like that !! ^__^ its very fun and sketchy to me, so i try to keep them around. those areas are also great to colorpick from, because it'll give you "new" colors to work w/ that are already part of your palette.

5. GRADIENTS & GRADIENT MAPS !! TONE CURVE !! COLOR PICKER !! this is the best stage tbh. flatten your image so its all on one layer and just go crazy with all the color settings in ur program. add gradient layers and set them to darken, or overlay, or subtract, orrr. lighten or dodge glow or divide or soft/hard light.! OR!! edit the hue, saturation, luminosity and contrast.and then color pick from these edits, block even more on top of ur image, flatten, color edit again, etc. etc. until u feel satisfied.

ANYWAYSS . i hope that makes sense @__@ sry i wrote this out and deleted it like 23 times trying to make it make More sense but thats what ive got HAHA i hope its useful though :3 !

You both have been magical friends ever since you two found each other as teenagers. Ever since then, you two have grown up together, been by each other's side through thick and thin, learned spells and performed magic together in the never-ending forests and the large mansion in the middle of it like a proper fantasy story. Hobie remembers training with you in the expanse of the forests, learning new spells from the books and trying them on each other. One time, you two had learned 'magic dragon' spells, making able to conjure up dragons made up of magic emitting from your palms, and initiated a playful brawl with him. Eventually, Hobie overpowered you, wrapping his magical dragon around your body with a squeeze, beaming at your giggles and playful protests to let you go. Of course, he always does on your command. How could he ever not, when you're smiling at him like that? At one point, in the process of learning levitation, this time it was your call to show off, looking exactly like an angel as a colourful, sparkling cloud acted as your seat. To Hobie, it took a little more practice. Luckily, you were always there to use your magic to lift him up whenever he stumbled. Despite the two of you being so close, doing everything and anything together, even sleeping in the same bed and cuddling, Hobie and you have been too shy to ever confess. Hobie admires you from afar, his heart melting at how stunning you are. His black cat familiar doesn't seem too happy about all this prolonged feelings, and neither is your crow familiar. Sometimes, the two have explored off into the grand library, trying to devise a plan together and finally join forces to make you both get together. One day, Hobie's black cat familiar beckons him out into the forest early morning, leading him to blooming flowers, signifying the stay of spring. With you in mind, he fell into the trap, beginning to pluck the flowers into a bouquet. The same day, his side of the bed was empty, with only your crow familiar at the end, looking at you with its beady eyes. Once you woke up, your crow familiar immediately began to caw towards you, eagerly urging you to get ready and follow. You followed your crow familiar quickly, a sense of urgency in your steps, like you forgot all spells you've ever learned in the thought of possibly being lead back to Hobie. You were lead to the top of a hill, where you see Hobie walking towards you with a confused expression towards his black cat familiar, striding confidently towards you. Meeting Hobie's gaze, you freeze at the appearance of a bouquet. Hobie feels like he's lost all of his charisma, opting for a small 'for you' as he offers you the bouquet. With a smile, you take it from him, your fingers gently grazing over the petals of the flower. Unsatisfied with the result, his black cat and your crow resort to physical measures. Your crow curls its claws around your collar, dragging you into Hobie's arms as his cat pushes him forwards by roughly headbutting his ankles. Finally, you end up in his arms, wrapped around your waist with his face near yours. In all the confusion of what the familiars were doing, you had accidentally dropped the bouquet. Luckily, your crow had it after letting you go to fall into his arms, literally. You covered your face in your hands, with Hobie suddenly getting a boost of confidence by the situation. Gently, he pries your hands away from your face, before softly pressing his lips against yours in a gentle kiss, giving you the option to pull away if you weren't willing. But you kiss back. -🐦‍⬛

I got a yoosung angst prompt cuz its fun to put the most sunshine guy through the worst traumas

How do you think his relationship will mc be post Bad Ending 3. Yeah its the ending where Unknown kidnaps and tortures him. Lets assume that he eventually got rescued and nearly died in the process (cuz Unknown badly hurt him in a fit of rage) but he survives....he lives

But whats gonna be after that how the whole ordeal is gonna affect his relationship with his S/O because it is going to be tough for both the parties. Ofc yoosung who was directly affected by the ordeal will need alot of therapy, and love and support. But it was quite tough for mc too.... if anything yoosung route does, it shows us the fact that losing a loved one is traumatic, nearly losing one too as well and MC also was traumatised and is guilt ridden (maybe i should have tried harder to stop him had i knew this would happen is a constant thought in her head) she also becomes somewhat protective of him because he has been through enough and deserves to get the best of the world.....but while mc is well intentioned in her actions....it somehow stings Yoosung, he is the one who should be protecting her, he should be the proactive one in the relationship....thats what he thinks. It makes him feel small....besides he can also see her running herself thin for him....and he just wants to not be a burden to her...

I rambled alot im sorry but i wanna see your take. As always i just wanna let you know I love your writing

Well, the unfortunate thing that I just can't help but bring up is that... Bad Ending 3 happens due to the player's (MC's) actions. That's not how it works in real life, of course, but with the structure of MM's storyline, that's how it plays out, and that's how it's meant to be interpreted by the player. In that ending, MC prioritizes themselves first, and encourages Yoosung self-sacrificial tendencies for their own benefit (or, well, safety, to be more exact). MC's actions are what led Yoosung to sacrifice himself in that ending in the first place. And that's also the reason behind his seeming resolve with what Unknown is putting him through in the aftermath.

'It's okay. I'm protecting them. They wanted me to keep them safe. So they wouldn't be scared. I need to stay strong for them. I'm doing this for them. Because I love them. Because I don't want to be in the dark and not do anything like it happened with Rika.'

So both sides of the argument are dealing with a messy tangle of emotions to deal with. And if you do want to imagine a better resolution to all of this, it'll probably involve a lot of conversations between the two.

Your dynamic between each other is unbalanced in that particular ending. And that's something that needs to be fixed. MC should take more care of Yoosung's well-being first before their own and believe in him, while Yoosung needs to work on his anxious attachment style.

It is difficult, though, because Yoosung's worst traits got the best of him as a direct result of MC's actions. The situation is pretty similar to those who want to imagine a better solution to Jumin's 2 Bad Ending. While it's possible, it needs to be acknowledged that MC is the one who needs to put most of the work in.

In my opinion, what would their relationship be like? Well, if we assume that MC does feel guilty for everything that happened, that's a lot of emotional baggage to deal with. Yoosung got hurt. Bad. Both physically and mentally. And he'll probably dismiss it too. It's important to remember that in this particular ending, he's devoted to you to an unhealthy extent. Not the same as in his 1 Bad Ending, but in a very self-sacrificial way. He'll probably just smile at you and say that he's happy you're safe. That that was the only thing he ever wanted. And that he held out for so long because he remembered what you told him, and how scared you were.

So... it's a pretty heavy situation for MC to be in. It's one thing to have your loved one disregard their well-being for you, but it's completely different when it's the direct consequence of your own actions.

Many apologies need to be made. Even if Yoosung doesn't understand why you're apologizing to him. Lots of talks to be had. And lots of very slow and steady progress to be made.

It's possible to come up with a better resolution to this mess. But it'll require a lot of work and patience from both MC and Yoosung. It does make a very interesting story to think about, though!

I've been thinking about the Guidemarks AU again and the whole deal with Mask/Time. I'm going to do my best to explain my thought process here, so bear with me.

OoT/MM!Link originally goes by Link during the events of OoT and MM for obvious reasons. I'm not 100% sure how the story goes in those games, but depending on how old he is when he's adopted by the Great Deku Tree, I think it's pretty likely that he had a kokiri name before leaving the Lost Woods. Or he might've had two names or just used a Hylian name the entire time. But I like the idea that maybe Zelda picked a Hylian name for him if she had to teach him how to speak the Hylian language and maybe named him after a story book hero because it's a cool name and they were kids.

Then after OoT/MM he went by Mask because there were already two other Links and Linkle so he couldn't be Link anymore. He probably also had weird feelings about keeping the name Zelda gave him. So Mask it was because calling him the Hero of Time would've just put a big target on his back and I kind of doubt he'd want to be named Time when time travel got him into this mess in the first place.

And then of course the War of Eras is over and he has to go home and that sucks and it's awful and horrible and a million other things, but eventually he gets his feet under himself. Somewhere along the way he realizes his name is legally Link and he wants to change it, but he's not really Mask anymore, either, so after a while he decides that Time is a good enough name for him because even though time traveling did a lot of bad things to him and other people, it also helped him out a lot and he wouldn't have met a lot of great people without it.

Separate from all that there's the downfall timeline in which he died as Link. Brutally cut down by Ganondorf and somehow the only instance of a duplication? Anyway... I think this Link sticks around long enough to meet Legend and Hyrule and thus ends up choosing a new name because he's not who he was while he was alive, really, and he never had the chance to progress like Mask/Time did. I know I said Mask would probably fit but I also realized he never got to the War of Eras, so he'd never have that thought process in the first place. And since everyone refers to him as "the fallen hero" but he's not exactly "the hero of time" I think Fallen suits him. Because that's what he is. A hero that fell in battle. That's his defining characteristic compared to the others. A tragic, cautionary tale that haunts his successors.

How does this fit into the AU? I'm not completely sure. I don't know how time travel works. For now I'm ignoring it until I try writing origin stories again because I really need to just get myself together and get things written. Also maybe if I ignore it it'll work itself out.

garden updateee (long post lmao)

peach tree first:

have harvested upwards of 50 peaches from it. have invited the neighbors to freely take peaches (don't think they have tho). have given peaches to my brother. so many are getting partly eaten by critters (i don't mind this)

probably have an additional 30-40 in the worm bin (partly eaten ones, gloopy ones, ones that were seriously damaged early on, etc)

ended up with two gallon bags full - and i mean full - of frozen peach slices and a good bit of peach sauce (well, i call it that, but it's really just cooked down/pureed peaches and a bit of sugar. it's good!)

could i have been more productive with it? yeah! however! wasn't expecting this at all! i cannot stress enough how much of a surprise this has been

after all the peaches have been harvested im gonna trim this poor tree down so hard. bc at present it isn't just bowing a bit under the weight, the main trunk goes up and up... and then starts coming sharply back down. roughly like so:

gonna try to espalier it a bit. there are lower branches that i'm going to be keeping and hopefully i can get some wire or something to give it some support, bc clearly during growing and harvest seasons it's gonna need that support. but i'm taking the height off... again, lmao. i've already done this!!!! it is growing so much

however, i think i know why. about midway through last year, we moved the worm bin over near it. and the worm bin has holes drilled in the bottom. so all those nutrients have been sinking into the soil and i think the peach tree was just like oh? nutrience? for me??? and went apeshit lmao

other garden news:

although i've mostly been talking about the peach tree, many things are going above and beyond. the rose bush out front is covered with rose hips that are probably about as wide as a half dollar? and it's grown to about halfway up the second floor. ridiculous. some of the canes are easily as wide as a quarter

we also have a grape. idk what type bc like the smartest person imaginable, i lost the tag. also i don't think it's ever gonna fruit but that is okay bc it is a sprawling beast and beautiful and it is sending vines up that are on the first floor roof

a lot of plants i have mostly to control temperatures indoors. so the rose bush covers the front of the house and some of the dark roof shingles, while the mystery tree and grape cover another part of the house. i was letting the peach tree get a bit taller to become a shade tree since it wasn't seeming to bear (but still not ridiculously tall!) but uh. A Mistake 😂

currently in the process of getting one of the many many manyyyy marionberry canes to root so that i can plant some in the backyard. it's very well established along the side yard and we get a ton of fruit from it, so why not just keep it going?

and we have a nectarine tree out back that's in its.... hmm. second or third year, but i think second. it's older than that, but in terms of being in our garden. so it's not bearing yet, no real surprise, and it's having some of the same issues the peach tree originally had, but the peach tree is no longer afflicted so i suspect the nectarine will end up okay as well

gonna be repositioning the metal gazebo frame (canvas top long since destroyed) into the center of the yard so that we can safely hang a new tarp from it and provide some central shade. looking forward to that, altho it'll be a lot of work. been using the water i saved up all during the rainy season and so far i still have a lot, which is nice - been doing a lot of water-wise planting and letting things get their own water and all. i've managed to keep the bucket pond going even tho the plastic is starting to crack and i'm dreading the eventual day the whole thing goes... sm life in there

but it's cracking bc the winters are getting so cold that the water freezes several inches down and expands, so it's like... rly tricky to deal with? debating about getting a solar powered water bubbler for it. just smth to keep the water moving a little bit and hopefully prevent it from freezing sm

i have mulched a tremendous amount this year, as i usually do. countless cardboard boxes - only plain ones, or ones with dyed parts removed, and always removing all the tape. forever trying to reuse stuff. there are still problem areas in the back and front yards, but some can't really be dealt with - like we have a lot of stray cats in the area and they sure do like to use yards as litter boxes 🙃like they're just gonna be here, it's a thing, but it does mean taking that into consideration wrt what/how we grow things

i keep getting frustrated and sad with how many things are dying out there but like. yeah. it's gonna happen. a) transplant shock is a thing, no matter how careful i try to be, b) it's hard to tell how heavily i should water things tbph, c) our soil is different all over the place, and the soil out front is very poor - which some things prefer! but definitely not all, and d) climate change. even hardy natives aren't necessarily hardy anymore, and over time native ranges seem to be shifting, so it's difficult

i get the feeling it'll be a bit of an "eye of the beholder" kind of deal, however none of these endings are necessarily worse to me. it just depends on what story is eventually being told

BUT IN ALL SERIOUSNESS agh it wouldnt make sense to explain the s2 plot without s1 but s1's plot is . im only proud of it in my head but i guess i can try to explain it LAWL sorry if this makes no sense

so season 1's plot revolves around this prophecy. that the highest gods of the universe (swift and python) will split apart but be rejoined by The Chosen One (its not immediately revealed who this is for Reasons) in order to stop the evil guy (vysel) but in the process the high gods will die and the chosen one will take their place . sounds pretty simple right. uh yeah thats the last time itll be simple

swift and python. really never took the prophecy seriously before their fight. they had long lives ahead of them (or so they thought), and besides thinking about their horrible demise doesnt really . do a whole lot for them. other than make them depressed. but when the split happens (and python leaves swift behind) swift suddenly starts to take the whole thing MUCH more seriously. it doesnt say how long it'll take for the chosen one (that's not what the prophecy calls them but its okay) to bring them together so swift just kinda. holds out hope for a while. but eventually they lose faith and only adhere to the prophecy because it predicts sky's gonna die early. which becomes the only thing they care about.

FAST FORWARD TO THE MODERN DAY python's a human and he's an old man and it ends up in this little town called overgaard and he (literally) runs into these two girls named ruby and java!! and within a second of shaking both of their hands it's like oh. they're The Ones huh. (keep in mind he barely remembers anything about the prophecy so like. yeah sure theres two chosen ones. why not. and it n ruby n java hit it off really well!! (ok more so like ruby and python hit it off java kinda hates him initially LOL) but eventually python knows that like. even though he hates responsibility he should do something about. this. like this is kinda important

now python's been on earth for a while. and they know there's exactly one (1) place here that swift can occasionally be found on. and that place is called purity's garden!! and it just so happens there's a gateway to it in overgaard!!! but uhhh unbeknownst to him two humans unexpectedly FOLLOW him into this place that very few, if any, humans have stepped into for the past couple thousand years. but uhhh swift does end up being there and python basically walks up to her and is like "hey girl so i know we havent talked since i abandoned you without saying goodbye hundreds of years ago but i think i found the two kids from the prophecy ^o^"

now swift has been studying the prophecy for AGES. she KNOWS that there's only one chosen one. and sky also knows that the shitbag who honestly ruined her life just came bsck without any kind of explanation or apology for doing so. AND he's just wholeass lying to them on top of that. so she's not very happy until lo and behold !!!!!!! thw two kids from the prophecy come to intervene!!!!!!! and at first swift is like "python these are just normal humans you fuckinf loser". but python INSISTS tjeyre the chosen ones, swears it on every bone in his body. amd she's like "i'll literally prove it to you ill SHOW you the prophecy" but!! when they get there!!!! the prophecy suddenly says there IS two chosen ones!!!!!!!!!!! and swift is losing it because sky's literally spent every day of python's absense memorizing that shit down to the SPECIFIC INFLECTION OF EACH WORD and somehow she mustve fuckijg forgotten that the prophecy calls for two people. ok. Fine. she can be cool about this . itll be Fuckinf Fine. so she reluctany trains these two alongside python in order to become skilled enough to defeat this evil demon thing that threatens. the fabric of the universe actually.

and BADABING BADABOOM that's most of s1 :-) everythinf just kinda follows that plot. and by that i mean the prophecy keeps fucking changing because it turns out having two people instead of one kinda changed everything WAY more than it fucking should. but its okay.

uhhh other than that the negative spirits take vysel as their pawn on the 200th anniversary of his death amd start rebuilding his prescence in the cutural consciousness only to make him like. the most hateable person ever. because negative actions and emotions make them stronger. and vysel's cool with it because he's a shallow asshole who only wants fame and attention even to the point of sacrificing his identity and personality both to the internet gods and to. the kinda demon things possessing him

although the whole training arc is going on (which does get some episodes dedicated to it tbf) most of the episodes in s1 are actually moreso slice of life stuff. a whole year passes between java and ruby finding out they're "chosen ones" and the end of s1 so they still have a lot of time to like. interact with their families or reconnect with old friends (as two conpletely nonspecific examples) . and about halfway thru the season vysel shows up proper and the story has urgency now yippee!!!!!

anywhoozle like i said in that one post. and i should probably explain how this happens so im gonna do that rq . but basically i've talked about this thing called imprisoned rogues before? they're basically intergalactic super criminals . if you do something that endangers an entire planet or more the gods will come up with some sort of unique enless trap for you to stay in for all eternity. like for example an endless staircase you never stop climbing or your consciousness being transferred into an inanimate object. shit like that. and all these rogues are kept in sectors that only gods can make portals to. but the collection of negative spirits within vysel have become so strong they can collectively create one giant portal to send everyone through. where they would presumably die (except for swift who they're now confident they can kill if she gets singled out ^_^). which is much safer than trying to kill them directly. and of course thats the one day java and c+ actually decided to hang out with each other for the first time in 3 years so uhhhh get fucked jobs georg you and your girlbestie get sent to the hell dimension !!!

and yada yada emotional turmoil happens and they eventually decide that letting java die out there isn't a particularly great idea and they save her but by then the endgame has pretty much started. the other gods finally start to help when they realize that this is actually. yk. a big fucking deal. and the prescence of two people is actually enough to cause the prophecy to change so much that both swift and python get to live in the end WOOOOOO (well. they live in some timelines that is. but dw about tjat its Not important ^_^) vysel dies in the process and everything is hashtag awesome the end . oh my lord that took so long to explain sorry LOL

UHHHHH S2'S PLOT ISNT NEARLY AS COMPLUCATED THANKFULLY. basically another year passes after the end of s1 and everyone's hanging out and being friends and whatever. but even after that time swift couldnt shake the feeling that something was wronf with the prophecy. she figured out it was changing but she couldn't understand why. but it wasn't really worth worrying about because they had to stop vysel. but after all was said and done she decided to visit one specific imprisoned rogue in particular, who sought to gain all the knowledge in the universe. so to punish xem the gods GAVE xem infinite knowledge but also put xem in a pitch black, inescapable room, so no one else can possibly hear xyr knowledge. which was what xe wanted in the first place. how fun ANYWAYS xe's not at all important ^_^ the point is that swift finally caves and asks xem what happened and xe's like oh!! some human kid fucked it up lol :) now can you free me now that i told you that and swift's like . sorry buddy its kinda hard to take back your knowledge now that you have it . but we'll figure out something for you !! (sky never does /J)

ANYWAYS the point of all this that swift figures that the human that altered the prophecy is the REAL chosen one. and even after all this time there's still no one to take the place of swift and python (which. swift being the god of all energy is a major reason why they're so unhappy in the first place. so of course they dont wanna put this burden on ruby or java or python.) but they figure that if this humam is old enough and experienced enough to be able to change the future in such a drastic way, then with some more experience and love for the universe they'd absolutely be able to take up this role. right ?

so basically s2 is about trying to get requiem to appreciate life. because we dont want this child who can change the future to be sad all the time. or angry. or yk. evil. which sounds kinda shallow but they develop into really good friends!!! and they found family each other ....... bless. so they travel the world and see things from so many other perspectives and this is the season where i kinds go creazy with the worldbuilding ....... its for me to have fun . win

and uh . funny story i STILL dont have a proper ending for s2 .......... i have ideas i just need to think of how such a thing would happen. but i will get back to you when i come up with something ! dw

I have some very vague and scattered thoughts on worldbuilding and creativity generally I've been having, and this is completely unplanned so bear with me but i figured it could be useful for others too

so I had a bit of a slump with my work recently (for context I've been working on a worldbuilding project for the past 3 years, which functions as both a setting to many of my stories and a meta-story in itself). not in that i lost motivation to work on it, but in that i sort of lost some pride and interest in sharing it - now or ever. i was struggling to see the overall aims for my work and what it had to share with people that was relevant or valuable.

but i've recently been reading writing down the bones by natalie goldberg and it's caused me to reflect, and i'm finding a lot to be proud of in what i've created in the past years. specifically in how i've unintentionally created a microcosm of my interests, my beliefs, and everything i want to say in the world.

goldberg says that writers often don't sit down with these sort of things in mind, they just start writing. and by writing intuitively, in a way that feels right to *you*, your beliefs and messages will organically bloom from that. it'll emerge eventually - whether you want it to or not - so you may as well just bloody well focus on creating. let those other parts happen naturally because it's your unconscious framework for everything you create, you just don't know it yet.

i didn't set out to create a setting-wide narrative about society, beliefs, class, the nature of personhood, consciousness, positive nihilism, and absurdism - i didn't even know those were my interests when i started this project! but nonetheless, because those are my passions and the subjects im realising i have something to say about, theyve all ended up grown out in an expansive web of my thought processes. i couldn't have created such a complex weave of themes if i'd set out to do so, but it grew out of it nonetheless. it's quite encouraging really - i'm achieving goals i never knew i had, and along the way i'm crafting an immersive world, telling stories of importance (to *me*).

it made me realise, what am i even worrying about? i'm achieving everything i want to as a creator. whether i ever get my stuff published is another story for MUCH further down the line, but for now my mind is spread out before me in a 200 page doc in shorthand notes no one but me could figure out - how exciting!!

I suppose what i'm getting at is that it can be hard, when you're in it, to see what you're creating. but if you create from the heart, intuitively and in a way that feels right for you, eventually you end up with a creative reflection you can be proud of. your themes and goals will speak for themselves, if you let them - even if you dont know them yet

One of the many great things about the universe is it is constantly expanding, which causes many stars to be farther and farther away from earth, and therefore causes them to be dimmer. But, the expansion of the universe only affects the distance between galaxy groups. Which leads me to believe that before the dark era that our black holes will not be able to effect one another. that does space will be so vast and expanded, and we don't know how far it will expand, but it'll be so vast that black holes will not be close enough to each other to even effect one another.

The fact that theoretically the universe can recreate itself to be something completely different something unknown or exactly the same following the exact same flow of time is just an amazes me I love that part of of the unknown cuz there's so many possibilities so many theories that you can come up with and I'm genuinely obsessed with that. That also feeds into the fact that the universe is so grand there could be other "Milky Ways" out there that have just started to begin their journey and could create life similar to ours

im so glad you mentioned the universe expanding bc my feet r fuckin swinging and shit DID YOU KNOW that we literally have no fucking clue what the edge of the universe, if one at all, is? okay, so we basically have three options:

There is no edge, none, not a single one; that the big bang (which is a theory, still, even though there's so much evidence. also, the big bang wasn't an explosion as many believe bc there was nothing to "ignite" it, it was just a bunch of matter moved all at once) just blasted a bunch of atoms and nuclei out into the universe, they bashed together, and they created shit-- but there's nothing else. as in, technically, you could go out as far as you can and eventually, you'll just have all the stars dwindle and reach a wall of nothingness

there IS an edge, and it's somehow even more terrifying. going back to the big bang, we're going to hypothesize that the "blast" was in an ellipse-ish shape (sort of resembling how a black hole looks where there's the one mass in the center, a force around the "top" and "bottom", and a ring around the side). there is technically an "end" to it-- but its horrifyingly stark. it's like, there's a bajillion, trillion stars, and then suddenly, there's nothing. the question that has to be asked then, is that: will we even see the edge if we DO eventually get to said edge (assuming that earth will continue in the milky way, to move further and further way from the big bang's "blast" zone)? as in, are there mere windows that we can see that utter nothingness? have we missed that window? assumingly, once we'd hit that edge, we, the observer, would just cease to be. or perhaps suddenly, half the night sky would be missing stars and would be an endless void that slowly consumed the rest of the sky until there was nothing to realize that the planet had "fallen off the edge."

finally, the third option-- that the universe is in one big cycle (but not like my last response to your ask); using an example of a black hole. think of it sort of like this:

so think of it like we start at point A and move to point B, hypothetically, if we were to stick with the second option, we would then just fall off the universe entirely and cease to be HOWEVER, in this third case, we'd be thrown from B to C if, at the center of the big bang's "blast" was sort of a reverse black hole (this one was a wild card that i saw), and in that sense, we would also cease to be, as we would then be sucked into the black hole. UNLESS, it acted more as a gravitational pull sort of thing and swung us under/around the "center" and onto point D. If, however, it wasn't as strong, we would be thrown to point E and, hypothetically, be thrown to point F, and somehow make it back to point B and start the process over again (although, it'd take a few trillion trillion trillion years, id assume)

The reason why I throw the third one out the window is that I don't think there'd even be enough TIME for any of that to occur, if anything, because the Milky Way galaxy and Andromeda galaxy will collide and therefore wipe out all living things and also most DEFINITELY throw both galaxies out of balance. if you're curious, (thank you NASA for the visuals), the first image is what Andromeda looks like today.

See that little white line beside the big ring of bright stars? That's Andromeda outside of the Milky Way's rings (unfortunately, most people can't see.

it's far closer, in fact, we can make out the goddamn details-- it's scary, but most likely not a single person reading this post will actually ever experience it. bummer for the space brain, major win for present-day humanity as we would not experience the horror of living on a planet that, in 2 billion years, would be exponentially hotter

third image is in about 3.75 billion years:

i believe it is now (and do correct me if I'm wrong) that this is the point where the oceans begin to dry up; the planet is so fucking hot that there's no way life could be sustained

fourth image is in about 3.85 billion years (happening fast since the last image):

the formation of stars lights up the sky as every speck in the sky we've ever know gets outshined by the constant collateral and literal damage in the sky above us.

fifth image, in about 3.9 billion years (IK!! close together, mark you calendars):

the formation continues into this beautiful and terrifying amalgamation of clusters hashing it out through bared teeth and gaseous war cries

image six, roughly 4 billion years:

andromeda and the milky way now become one. like some epic yaoi finale, they've merged together to create milkomeda/milkdromeda. we are far past dead at this point, luckily, and anything that lived on earth is far past deceased at this point

image seven 5.1 billion years:

the cores of what used to be the milky way and Andromeda have now appeared in the sky as two giant bulbs, and the planet somehow heats up further (it has been, in case you thought it'd stop-- this is space, shit's always hitting the proverbial fan)

final image, 7 billion years:

the merged galaxies become one, ultimate yaoi, and the bright core would take up the entire sky-- no stars would be seen.
