ok i wasn't going to make a post but i do have feelings about until dawn remake that didn't fit under the tags of one reblog

im 15 mins in someone's playtrough of the remake and im still not too impressed BUT ohh my god they changed my least favourite line ("wHeRe's mY SiSTer GoInG?") and i might just have to forgive them everything for that

other than that so far: the people look terrible (like the graphics look nice, but as people...... they don't look like themselves to me.... also. very dark – i cant see anything but that might just be the streamer's settings idk) the longer intro is sooo awkward without any new dialogue. might be the streamer mode with no music tho idk. but goddamn i don't agree with sam's new role in the prank or see why they changed note (i've always thought it was wild that hannah would just start by taking her shirt of, but now it's just.... why exactly does she??) and i miss the fixed camera but that might be just because im not playing im just watching sucks to be chris in the morning with all that on his face...... not the situation where you want to look like that

ok i am an hour and twenty minutes in (chris wandering around the lodge) and i'm seriously considering on just giving up and watching another (third.. this week..) original game let's play instead. mainly because it's so damn dark that it's not pleasant to look at. the flashlight (or lighter or torch or whatever) is for pointing out glinting things, it's not supposed to be the only light source! one of the things that keeps drawing me back to this game year after year is how pretty and atmospheric it is, and the remake... is not delivering.

but at least they don't leave the window upstairs open anymore! that has been bothering me for years

how do i spend my free time? i mean other than mbti stuff, i like to record music, and play video games with the boys. rn we are playing Satisfactory, and its super fun!

what are my hobbies and how did i get into them? playing music - i thought guitar looked cool and wanted to try it. got into recording my own music because finding other muscians to play and write music with i not very easy! but i still wanted to have like, fully finished, listenable songs, so i learned how to play the virtual drums & synthesizers etc. to fill the void lmao. i got into video games bc my dad loves them and p much gave me a controller as soon as i could hold one lmao.

what book or movie left a lasting impression on me? book - slaughterhouse 5 was p good. absolute mind trip, but still good! tbh i dont read much bc im a really slow reader :( movie - eternal sunshine of a spotless mind is probably my all time favorite. i love jim carrey and think he's a super interesting person even outside of all his funny faces. also the barbie movie, but tbh i think the barbie movie left an impression on EVERYBODY lmao. it was good tho!

what kind of music do i enjoy? MOST music tbh. i think it is coolest art form for sure. i love punk rock the most, though. blink-182 has always been my favorite band - anything that is fast, catchy, and has lots of energy that you can rock the fuck out to is find by me though. but ive got a definite love for electronic music of p much all kinds. house, drum&bass, lofi, you name it. anything melodic will do well with me!

whos my favorite character? all time is hard because i go through so many phases, so i'll just do at the moment. im currently watching supernatural (kind of for the first time lmao, i was never a superwholock back in the day), so i'd have to say dean winchester. he's funny, he's cool, he works hard and is smarter than he looks. he's a great example of a character who both fits the stereotypes you would naturally assum about him based on his appearance, but also breaks a lot of those same stereotypes when you look at him closer. sam winchester is the same way (kind of a theme of the show which is cool), but i just like dean more lmao.

my name is rurumi and i enjoy spending my free time writing!

some of my hobbies (outside of writing) includes: drawing, building gundams and keyboards, and fashion! i got into most of them on a whim and became instantly hooked. aside from self-expression, being into fashion also helps with making friends in college because you always have something to talk about!

a book that left a lasting impression on me would have to be either kafka on the shore by haruki murakami or before the coffee gets cold by toshikazu kawaguchi. both stories have kept me up at night thinking a lot about the 'what ifs' in life.

i enjoy soul/r&b alongside anything of jrock influence, but i will basically listen to anything that sounds good. i am currently listening to 'so what' by lucy!

my favorite character at the moment is rin itoshi from blue lock because hes so ridiculously edgy, but at the same time i sympathize with him a lot. on the other hand, my favorite character of all time is suletta mecury from the witch from mercury series, she's an absolute ball of sunshine that i aspire to be.

it took me forever to come up with an idea for this prompt and im so sorry for the wait! even now im not sure if the elements of it that are prompt-related are that strong. i had a lot of fun with the other stuff tho. could technically fit into this verse (but doesn't have to) and the golden age of hollywood captain america biopic starring paul newman and marlon brando is all @firstelevens big brained genius.

"I've seen you on TV though."

"There's a difference. You've seen me on TV, doing other things, that are not being on TV. You've never seen me on TV."

This was a fair point. Sam could count on one hand the number of times he'd personally witnessed Steve Rogers give willing statements to reporters. Those high school PSA things were another matter.

"Okay," Steve had laughed, the tired way they all did those days. "Kick a man while he's down, why don't you. Those don't count."

Sam fades out of the memory in time to the waning loudness of the kitchen. Cass is asking about some school field trip form and Sarah is undoing her headful of braids with Bucky's help. Etta's by the sink playing loudly from someone's iPhone.

"You see someone's hands are in the middle of something Cass, you pick that exact time --"

"I was gonna ask before, Mom, I forgot."

"Baby, get your Uncle to do it."

Sam is staring at his blank laptop screen.

"Hey Uncle Sam."

He looks up.

"Yeah, yeah, c'mon, hand it over. Where are y'all going?"

"Science observatory. They got an exhibit on black holes."

He scribbles down his signature distractedly. "No way? That sounds great, Cass. You excited?"

Cass's grin is sweet and slow-growing like he doesn't wanna show off just how excited he is. Sam pats his shoulder as he runs back upstairs. It's near nine. The outdoor lamps are on. House is still alive though, for all that it's Thursday night. When Sam refocuses Sarah and Bucky are mid-conversation, resumed like whatever Cass needed happened right in the middle.

"-- morality of the man is irrelevant, I said he could get it in that film. I know you agree with me, don't act like you don't, our taste is the same."

"Our taste is not the same --"

"Please."

"Newman is plenty more handsome, and --"

"No!"

"Sam," Bucky says, like Sam has any idea what they're talking about.

"What?"

"Marlon Brando, yes or no?"

"Godfather era?"

"No!" say both of them at once, such complimentary looks of scandal on their faces that Sam can't help but chuckle.

"Streetcar era," says Sarah. "Captain America era."

Oh, Lord.

"I'm convinced you think he's hot just to mock me."

Sarah's oiled fingers twist lightly around a braid that starts behind her ear. "I'd never mock you, sweetness."

"He looks nothing like me!"

"Mmmhmm."

"No ..." drawls Sam, with a slow growing grin. "The biopic?"

"Which Sergeant Barnes here has yet to watch --"

"Ever. Yet to watch, ever. I can't believe Hollywood got the rights to me and Steve's names in the fifties, Jesus Christ."

Sam remembers watching it with Steve. They did it on the nice flatscreen in Steve's new-old DC apartment, and Nat showed up halfway through and uninvited, technically. She brought the good popcorn with her. Old Hollywood, Gold Hollywood Captain America was more of a fun wartime adventure than anything else, and, Sam knows very well now, so far removed from reality it is laughable. Still ...

"Brando's better looking."

"Than Newman?"

"Than you, Barnes."

Bucky makes a very mature face at Sam around the pick comb held in his teeth. Between the two of them, half of Sarah's head is already free, fluffing up and around her ears in the kinky, stretched out way it's wont to. It's less frizzy than Sam's seen it before. He's got a niggling suspicion that vibranium's good for that. Bucky's technique has improved, too -- comfortable, if still exceedingly gentle in a way no titi or grandma would ever be. They're in the middle of the kitchen, anyway.

"Of the two of us," Bucky says sweetly, "I'm the one with a girlfriend."

Okay. Well.

"I will kick your ass, man --"

"Oh my God, both of you shut up," says Sarah, massaging two fingers around her freed temple and dropping a loose piece of hair into the pile. "The takeaway here is, I'm always right about these things."

Though it's a Thursday night, and this a tedious kind of thing, Sarah looks more relaxed than usual. Sam says,

"At least he's not one of those Bridgerton guys she likes."

Sarah's protest is very immediate. "Oh, excuse you! Have you seen --"

"Do not say Regé-Jean Page --"

Bucky is frowning in concentration as he unpicks a particularly tricky knot, but makes the time to say, "Come on, Sam, he's hot."

Sam groans. "Seriously?"

"Sam, objectively, I trust Bucky's taste in men more than I do yours --"

"Because it's the same as yours," Sam says, instinctive, so that Bucky will stop looking so smug,

"-- but all this is irrelevant --"

"We're not circling back to Brando," says Bucky.

"No, we're not, because I was going to say --"

Sam has been around long enough to know exactly where this is going.

"Denzel," he starts, loudly.

"Can get it," finishes Sarah. "Even now --"

"Even now."

"She's not wrong."

Sam has to resign himself on this point. "She's not wrong."

He looks back at his laptop. That biopic, he thinks. What a way to find yourself on TV.

"Before this -- all this. You never thought maybe you could use that, let people hear what you had to say?"

"People hear what they want to hear," Steve had said, in that tiny safehouse in Germany. "Better to show them, I guess. Who would I be going on television for?"

Sam doesn't want to go on TV. Not the Good Morning America kind, anyway -- willing, active, planned. There's a scripted quality that sets his teeth on edge. He's been invited -- two days from now. Angie the publicist was very nice, more respectful than most in her proposal. He'll have to cut his already short visit to Delacroix shorter. He keeps thinking maybe if he can say some stuff on his own terms, it won't be so bad.

His notes app is clean empty, though.

Sarah is laughing over something in front of him. It fades out and he realizes that she's looking right at him.

"Sam. You good?"

He thinks about it. "The Good Morning America gig," he starts. "Don't know if it's a good idea."

"Well," says Sarah. The kitchen smells of her hair oil. "Who'd you be doing it for?"

She says it differently from how Steve had. There's a thump from upstairs.

"Good point," says Sam. He closes his laptop and moves to get up. "You two stay here. I'll go make sure they're in bed."

It's now past nine, after all, and a school night. He hears Sarah and Bucky return to their laughter while he leaves, the kind that dissolves quickly into something else and makes it real obvious they've started kissing. Sighing, Sam goes upstairs to the sight of Cass hooting all sprawled out on the top bunk. He hauls AJ to his feet off the bedroom floor; somehow he's gotten his head into the empty garbage can.

"Bedtime," Sam says, pulling the can off.

"You're still here for another few days, right Uncle Sam?"

He bumps AJ's shoulder with his fist, raising his eyebrows. "You did all your homework tonight?"

"Uh huh."

"Then yeah, AJ. I'm still here another couple days."

they all pitch in and give gwen their tickets and she picks the gaming console which has everyone very surprised but they brush it off quickly

they end up taking photo booth pictures in the end

so excited that you're excited for my star wars au!!! i'm perhaps a little unreasonably proud of/happy with that one im ngl

O: How do you begin a story—with the plot, or the characters?

i mean i feel like i'm generally writing about the same two to three characters in most fics so by default i tend to start with the characters? every fic i've written has mostly been in pursuit of hammering out the exact characterization i have for sam and bucky that fits in with what we've seen in the mcu (and same with torres in the sbj fics i've written!)

there are some exceptions to this tho! the one last stop au is a major one; i was reading one last stop in august/september of 2021 and i was like oh my god this could SO easily have sambucky vibes and then i started writing based on having that general plot outline, and it was the fic that launched me into writing in general! the princess diaries au is another good example of plot first; i'd always wanted to write one for a fandom but had never had the inspo before sambucky + i really wasn't sure exactly what side characters were going into each role until i started writing. i'd planned to make sam's arranged marriage partner maria rambeau and have her pair up with bucky's fake date carol danvers at first, and had even written that up till like halfway through chapter 4 before i went back and changed this to ayo and sarahayo!

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an "architect" or a "gardener"? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the storu unfold as you go?)

this is almost entirely dependent on how long the fic is! if it's a fic i think is probably going to end up >10k (princess diaries, one last stop, sam takes bucky home to delacroix before civil war au, potential upcoming ghost au), then i've usually got at least a general outline before i start, if not a very detailed list of exactly what major plot points happen in each chapter like i did with the princess diaries au (of course this got changed some in the early stages, seeing my answer above, but it was pretty much entirely finalized by the time i finished chapter 4)

if it's one of my shorter fics, sometimes things just get written down and then they work! the star wars au is actually a great example of this. i truly did think i was gonna be writing a fun little space romp and then it turned into feelings and angst and longing and a short indictment of some of the jedi rules for way of life. the first chapter of renaissance man, two chapters of some invisible string tying you to me, and all of we don't talk anymore got written on discord pretty spontaneously and in one go, so these are also some pretty great examples of "sometimes words just happen"

tldr; this is pretty fic dependent (and often fic length dependent!)

-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...

-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way

-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)

-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)

I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. Okay. I'd like to offer up that this attitude is more about a pervasive fandom habit than the actual content of the franchise, and I like to gently offer that you're doing yourselves and other fans a disservice by buying into this. It's very easy to train ourselves to constantly scan for shark jumping. Its kind of countercultural tho, to give franchises room to adapt and evolve.

But let's look at this. Because in all honesty, MCU pre- and post-2015 is p much exactly the same ratio of creative development vs cash grab. And Marvel has always done p solidly on both counts.

The phase 1 & 2 linchpins were written and directed by Joss Whedon ffs, which means beyond on set abuse, actors also got interchangeable glib one-liners instead of characterization. Being a Steve fan, the essay i could write is how Whedon has no clue who Steve is in particular, but Im sure there's plenty more to write from other character perspectives. Phase 1 & 2 is where the MCU first grew into The Tony Show with Some Supporting Characters, where the overwhelming focus was on cishet white guys, where the universe stands still while long plans develop, where we got two films a year if we were lucky. It has always taken patience to wait for the MCU to piece together anything theyre aiming for, but theyve always built their brand on long games. I remember piecing together over a cpl years who the orig 4 Avengers would be. It took ages to see Modern Steve evolve. It took ages to see Nat get ANY characterization besides hot chick. This isnt a place built on instant gratification.

Meanwhile. Post 2015 is the entirety of the Black Panther franchise, built on foundational rships. It's two separate deep dives into Wanda's grief and loss and character. Its exponentially more women characters. Its a whole Dr Strange that I had no intention of finding this complex. Its a stunning story about the Partition of India and its impact on Kamala and her family. Its Loki *finally* having something interesting to do! And multiple people to be vulnerable with! Its the entirety of MCU Peter Parker. Its Nebula's amazing arc. Its the introduction of the Bradley family and John Walker, both of which extend and complicate what the Cap mantle means in world. Its Sam finding his Falcon, and his next big challenge. Its Bucky in therapy and finding peace and personhood. Its Nat's Russian family, and Alexei and Yelena coming back to keep building together. Its She-Hulk offering a new absurd humor. Its the seeds of Young Avengers. Its a brilliant re-work of the Kree-Skrull conflict and how that impacts individuals.

And this is just from one single, pretty limited fan perspective tbh; somebody else could have an equally long list of amazing relationships that are entirely different. I havent touched on Eternals or Hawkeye or Moon Knight or Carol or Shang Chi or Guardians or Antman or much Thor or... THIS was the point of expansion, so they could capture more of us and our money. Beyond, like, Endgame, which was wall to wall splash pages, theres rich rships and a MUCH broader group of differing characters unfolding in all of these shows and movies.

If you prefer the non-expanded space and original characters, thats cool, Im not here to trash that. Weve all got our personal preferences. But really, please own that and delve into that so we can all understand the canon texts in more depth from your perspective, ESPECIALLY considering the representation issues they are improving on since. If you're just not over not getting specific plot points you wanted, say that too, and we can all commiserate or ignore as desired. If you havent been around since the start, and absorbed pre-2015 in 3 days time, own that bc it shapes your perspective too. Real time 2008-2015 was a slog. If youre just exhausted all over, and dont know how you want to plug into the current MCU, I mean real fair, that makes a lotta sense. If you truly wanna look at how capitalism and militarism have profoundly shaped every single second of this franchise from the start, lets do it! That doesnt get talked about enough!

Because boiling the point down to "all true fans hate the franchise now" is honestly something that diminishes fandom as a whole. It helps us all train ourselves for less joy. I dont think thats your intention, its just a thing fandom does, but it really doesnt feel like we can afford this anymore. We're all getting too desperate for joy.

The thing is, it also absolutely bleeds through and impacts indie creators as well, diminishing our trust in ourselves to build something new that our audience won't be fickle and mean about. Consider what attitides feed you and the folks around you too. Consider how you treat the folks making stuff for you. The whole "so-and-so won't see what you say but your friends will" absolutely applies here. I guarantee you indie creatives are paying more attention to everybodys treatment of content than you realize. Maybe even including you, with your complicated rship to your own writing or art? What thoughts and fears do you have about how audiences will respond to your stuff? What kind of audience do we want for ourselves, and what does that say about what kind of audience we want to be?

-WHY WAS DESIREE IN THE SEWER? HAVING TEA WITH IT DOWN THERE?? Her making the giant cow come alive is a boss move, we've almost had all of my fav animals as ghosts now <3 I also don't like how sam was expecting danny to just, haunt the place so the cars wouldn't get sold? I KNOWWW I know she's 14 (and I had a very annoying phase like this, I think I mentioned in a previous post, I GET IT) but they're HIS powers, and messing with (1) dealership will not really put a dent in sales overall because they can just move the cars to another sales lot, and it certainly wont change the industry anyway, it's more of a minor annoyance for (1) location. Also, usually people who work at car sales places work on commission, so if they dont make a sale, they don't have money to pay bills, or eat. sam baby if u wanna be an activist you need to like, actually look into these things. with as much money as her parents have, she could be doing a lot..more useful things for causes she cares about? it's frustrating to see someone with resources who doesn't know how to use them. but shes 14 so again. cannot be really upset :/

I know, he also agreed and walked into the portal. but. she made the choice to redo it SO quickly (even if it was because someone had to beat desiree) and danny, during their fight, brought up a lot of stuff sam's done in the past, meaning he was holding onto those memories and resentment was building. (I KEEP SAYING HE LOWKEY NEEDS THERAPY, BUT I THINK MOST EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW KINDA DOES) which...is a red flag? and then they didnt even GO to the party URGH I know she tried to make up for it, but it really felt like Sam fucked up and barely faced any consequences and got everything she wanted in the end. I KNOW it's a kids show obv they aren't going to go too in depth, and she undid the damage, kinda, but...I DUNNO how to articulate it but it rubbed me the wrong way.

-aww, sam helping tucker pass the nurse's office so he wouldn't see because he's afraid of medical stuff? very sweet. I also don't like medical stuff, I've gotten a lot better at handling it tho. but seeing blood and needles still makes me feel lightheaded x_x

-FOLEY, BY TUCKER FOLEY. I want to make my own perfume, that's so cool. even if his first attempt isn't good, he's pretty consistently shown to have an inventor/entrepreneur streak in the show, so like. I can see him inventing or making something (or several somethings) that make him $$$ when he grows up :) proud of my creative son

-I know the 'creepy abandoned hospital on the edge of town' is a joke and the creepy hospital trope is so Worn Out, but in my town we actually DO have a hospital like that! my dad was born in it, but its not in use and hasn't been for, like, 20 years! it needs to be torn down but I think the city doesn't wanna pay the money. the inside is horrible, spray painted and broken glass and shit everywhere. but there's still like, rusty equipment and fucking DOLLS all over the place. the cops drive by it pretty frequently to make sure no one is like, breaking in. (because of water damage, some of the areas really aren't safe. also, asbestos, but people still go in anyway) but also, some of my town was used in a filming for a stephen king show. So it's lowkey spooky all over. just a fun personal tidbit :) to lead into saying, any hospital abandoned for any period of time is NOT safe to quarantine these kids in JKSAHDKF like I KNOW it's a ghost trying to do this, but NONE of these parents are even like, 'well, why dont we keep them in the regular, working hospital'....YIKES. this hospital looks pretty accurate to the one in town. grungy and spooky.

-oh, the easy listening is ember's song instrumental slowed. 'vapor drone' THEY VAPORWAVED HER!!! ember in a pirate outfit tho >>>>. and the cruise being called m.bersback JKASDHJK. ember adopting a little pirate brother is also pretty cute. concerning this teen and little kid have such bad opinions of adults, like, who hurt you?? (how did you DIE ALSO?? im always lowkey curious about that. we know desiree died at an old age, but her ghost form is young, probably mid-20s, so I wonder how that sort of thing works...its a more mental thing, isn't it?) but ghost team-ups are always cool to see, even if ember bailed after danny took her guitar. I guess she probably thinks youngblood can handle it (which, he's been owning danny this far in the ep, so...fair)

-danny taking control of the kids SO FAST. he makes a pretty great leader. no one is surprised, im pretty sure I said I think he's the most mature of the trio, once again, correct, because he's taken on so much responsibility already. all the teens suiting up in the jumpsuits to go save the adults and taking the ship over with a BLIMP. OKAY LETS GO. this feels like it should be a mid finale or straight up finale.

-...speaking of finales. why is ep 4-5 of s2 combined into a 50 minute episode? Tho we don’t know what year of college they’re in so they could mean they met as freshmen and a few years have past…speaking of maddie shes crushing the 80s look.

(which, fair assumption since they're considered 'ghost fanatics/nuts in canon...but...) why did she think jack or vlad would be her ONLY OPTIONS? be like your sister. be single. Actually, this au could’ve been really interesting if after the accident, vlad lied to her and said jack never wanted to see her again, but she stays single. Imagine how much that would bug vlad… like, in her mind, it was never a competition it was jack or no one type situation…
