Thoughts on Book 9, halfway point

Okay so im in Book 9, right? End of Phase 1 of Skulduggery Pleasant.

And I remember, back when I read it as it came out, that I hated how it ended, how everything was so fixed on Darquesse, that I was relieved that she was finally gone from the story (lol) and that I went into Phase 2 weirdly exhausted. Book 9 actually made me abandon SP until something like Book 12 was out?

Now, according to my Kindle, Ive read 94% of Phase 1. Im somewhere around Chapter 56 of Book 9, so Im about halfway through.

And I have to say.

Its such a full book? So much happens? And its so all over the place? Okay we are here now, and now we are here. Brides of the Blood Tears, other dimension, back again, Darquesse, Mirror Image revival, future perspective telling us its all gonna be okay, and and and.

I think Im overwhelmed by this book. Last Stand of Dead Men was utterly enjoyable. But it felt like the book had purpose. Book 9 on the other hand feels like its desperately trying to write itself out of the godhood of problems it created. It wants to do justice to everything Darquesse was built up to be and yet still defeat her.

The problem is that the strategies are simply not very clever and knowing in which direction its going also makes so much of it appear cheap because it wasnt really relevant later?

Darquesse is both built up to be non human and yet appeals to humanity. And I suppose theres a point made there but its... shes just not fun? I think she never was as a villain. Her whole speech about how changing energies is not killing someone and then through like five minutes of group time she remembers "oh fuck, yeah nope that was wrong". Its so weird. Its so jarring. The character feels inconsistent in their own darn book.

Its not that its badly written. Tanith returning is great. Billy Ray is such an utterly human figure in this one and I genuinely feel bad for him (as he evidently truly loved Tanith as a Remnant). Skulduggerys treatment of the "other" Nefarian Serpine shows so much character growth. China is more and more actually an involved character. And a few others I cant remember.

I just.

I dont know. Its a weird feeling because many of the books I have read over the last dozen weeks were also in my head as "not actually that good storywise but well written" and some of that has turned out wrong! I always enjoyed reading them but some stories are much better than I remember.

But I think I arrived at this point in which the story is too large for the books. I care about the characters. About the world. But I dont know if I care about the stakes anymore. I dont know if Darquesse matters to me anymore. What does she even say about humanity? What does she reflect? That we can grow? That we are inherently evil? These are all things better illustrated by other characters.

Is it supposed to be a play on the Phase 2 reveal of Valkyrie being actually a Faceless One? Is Darquesse a shard of said ungodly evil? If so, wouldnt we have benefitted from said reveal in the Phase of its relevancy? Why is it so late?

I think SP sometimes suffers from the Star Wars "Skywalker" symptom of everything being connected at all times.

I dont know. This is weird. I still have 6% and around 50 chapters to go but Im unsure now. I stand before the mirror of literary interest and wonder if there is anything substantial to be seen.

And I know I'll enjoy the book. Its well written. I love Landy.

But having read them all in a row in such close succesion makes me realise how somewhat badly planned they are and how many massive plotholes there often exist.

Maybe the story got too big. I dont if i'll be exhausted. But Im a little worried.

Mk11 doesn't have plotholes

IT HAVE PLOT CHASMS. PLOT ABYSSES.

Plots so huge,so confusing,so stupid. It makes the old sub zero mythologies,and special forces side games look like decent plots.

The only thing good about it is the og actor is back as shang but even then it's still painful.

9,story is garbage. But the gameplay is amazing.

10,gameplay is out of this world. Story is mid,horrible for some characters but solid main big boss. Online i heard is better than 11. But i hate online competitive gameplay. It kinda sucks the fun away. And not worth it. Plus the amount of guest characters because they killed half the roster. It's ridiculous. And unnecessary. So yeah.

11. *breathes in*. 11. Again they knew the story was crap,half baked. So they made a whole ass expansion to a lukewarm story nobody cared for. To retcon a retcon THEY MADE. And guess what? It's that "we are gonna take everything you love about this series and take a huge fat shit on it. For profit" if you like shang tsung,you may love 11. But even then it feels off. But again thats the best they can do. And you damn well we ain't gonna have this again. If there ever will be a 12. Because at this point im not so sure. And honestly i don't care if they dont make a 12.

It would be a shame. But honestly I'd rather take a non canon ACTUALLY GOOD MK GAME. no bullshit. No fillers. No guest characters. No micro transactions. Just a good ol fashioned mk game. Pick a character,pick an arena,and fight. No complicated over explained story. Simple and to the point. Let the audience and players make a story. Or at least,bring back the spirit of mk. Bring back the ACTUAL CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY part in mk,with more than 2 choices. More than "good" vs "evil" actually have real constructive morally grey areas. Like it's not that hard.

We get nothing but absolute perfection from tagawa's performance. But other then him. Mk11 is weak af.

i heard that wakui faced problems with shonen jump, due to tokyo revengers becoming too dark and violent to suit a "shonen" magazine + other issues, which i'm sure is much of the reason why he's wrapping things up so quickly and making the ending happy.

it's certainly a sharp turn after all the pain and death, but i'm welcoming it with open arms!! and god i hope it stays like this 😭 i hope it's actually a happy ending, and i hope we're just going to see everyone enjoying the wedding (takehina? drakemma? idm which! as long as it's not kisahina. oh my god that would be terrible LMAO) and having a good time. no funny business wakui, not now when you've made it this far 😭😭

I guess they make the Quarry characters unlikeable so that when they inevitably get chased by the monster/slasher etc (only seen the first few chapters so far so idk what they’re gonna be hunted by lol), you can root for them to die lol, or at least maybe get some character development in the process. But yeah, from what I’ve seen Ryan is really the only person I like in the cast cause he seems like a cool guy!

Look I'm not one of those people who believe Kishimoto decided to have Hinata and Naruto end up in the middle part of Shippuden. I believe he decided in the very last arc but he wanted to sound smart so he said he decided earlier on. Otherwise, they obviously would have more scene together. In Shippuden, they have only three scenes together ; when Naruto came back, the pain attack and the neji death scene. That's it. In the original Naruto, they probably have less than ten canon scenes not including fillers.

So I'm sorry I'm one of those who wasn't convinced by The Last. They literally had a basic villain go after Hinata who was cringe btw (the villain). They gave Hinata op powers which she doesn't have in the novel 👀. Despite having op powers, they made her the damsel in distress. Very "The hero saves the princess" cliche. Again, to justify them being together. I mean Naruto can't differentiate his love for ramen and romantic love so how??? He was just being nice to Hinata just like he does to everyone. He stood up for her just like he does for everyone.

Don't get me started on the Sakura Sasuke relationship 🤣. Cringe. They never knew each other. The whole Sakura's love for Sasuke saved him doesn't make sense. They spent barely a year in their genin year before sasuke left. Sasuke tried to kill Naruto and Sakura multiple times. Then at the end of the war, Kishimoto tried to do the "oh they have such a deep understanding between each other" which comes off as cringey. He gets her pregnant then leaves for years. She's literally a single mom who's broke.

Every relationship in Naruto is so cringey and forced except shikatemari. Kishimoto should've focused on the main story and fixed his potholes and leave the ending open.

Naruto would not have been perfect but at least it would've been remembered for staying true to its vision but instead it's remembered for cringey relationships, dumbass villain (except pain and madara) and a story that lost its core which is a shame coz I used to love Naruto. I was inspired by its messages but now....

I mean, Naruto in general is a mess, not just the ships if we're being realistic. Alot of plotholes, rushed endings, this and that, the w a r a r c, Kaguya, the way they rushed Boruto ehhh. Honestly, getting into Naruto is literally my biggest regret of 2020 :"DD

I also know a bunch of nh stans who have their complaints with their development. I wish Kishi gave more attention to his female cast really, thats all I fucking ask. If he did that one single basic thing, then maybe the endgame relationships wouldnt have been an asspull and theyd be given propper screentime with their love interest, both Sakura and Hinata. The Last tbh i think the writers played it safe and stuck to the whole Naruto shounen vibe thingy, so im not surprised it was plotted that way. Typical cliché shounen movie.

But does that bother me? No! The Last was a mess, their development was shit, they definitely needed more screentime but hey at the end of the day theyre cute as fuck, we have that kiss scene, flirting scenes, a shit ton of official art, three kids, Seiki's gif :33 and a whole ass arc for their wedding all that for just a shounen anime so eh. Compensates for it i guess xD theyre not toxic, unhealthy or whatnot. Theyre wholesome, soft and vanilla as fuck and exactly what i need in my hectic life rn. No drama, just two kind souls who are adorable as heck and theyre dynamic means so much to me and I will love them until i shall leave this earth.

30 Days of WITCHversary - 14-18

This week was hectic so Im dumping the last few days all at once.

Ahhh the shit-talking ones, I adore WITCH, but boy do I have some salt.

14- Something that irked you

I have to say the biggest thing is the fact that there simply wasn’t enough dragons, especially past the 2nd arc. Their power origin is dragons(until the late-series retcon nonsense), the motif is ‘you are something more than human now’, and then???? nothing? They forsook the ‘you are not fairies, you are not witches, you are something more ancient, strange, and lovely’ stuff and went sparkle fairy. Oof ouch the retcons.

Dragons all over the four dragons issue, dragons on the restaurant, Nerissa’s panel here? dragon.

This isnt something that the comic is guilty of only either, the show is guilty of it too, and they had no excuse, the comic was already out pretty far, and they wanted a show that appealed to boys, so why didn’t they go all in???

There were dragons on Taranee’s laptop when they talked about quintessence, there were dragons in the origins episode, there was dragons in the Phobos fight, in the one where Nerissa tries to take Earths Heart the first time, and there was the mention in the last episode, but did we see anymore dragons? Especially as their Zenith forms which I’ve complained about before was the PERFECT opportunity to tie in the motif? No.

There should have been way more dragon flavor.

Some dragon-shaped auras, the zenith deus ex transformation should have been dragons, Id have even taken totally western dragons, just,,, pls. More dragons emblazoned on coats and people referring to them as dragons. Maybe have part of Phobo’s goal be becoming a dragon. IDK just toss more in there!

And why did they strip the dragons out in the later arcs? My answer is Marketing. Things needed to be pink and sparkly or they are seen as encroaching on different demographis, and not sellable, as CEOs love the minmaxing. Dragons aren’t considered cute, for some reason, and so they had to go. That cash cow was primed to be power-milked until it died. And well. It did.

Im not saying that the shift in priorities from juicy dragon-flavored undertone creeping horror of being uninformed newly minted child soldiers against their will to sparkily faerie idols who do magic sometimes and smooch a lot of boys totally killed it but... Well... 

You know.

You can tell im salty about this, and have been salty about this for over a decade, can’t you.

15- Something that needs a quick fix

In the beginning issues, some of the wording implies the only worlds are Meridian, which is just basically hell, Kandrakar, which is basically heaven, and Earth, and no other worlds. Which is all well and dandy, except.... 2 arcs later that stops being the case.

Change that, because it goes off the rails from that view so fast its not even funny. The simplistic, ‘Meridian evil lizards, Kandrakar good glowing green immortal gods or whatever’ can stay, I guess, because its part of the deconstruction of the ‘evil’ world and ‘good’ world, with Earth as the purgatory thing that media does but just. Right from the start say ‘multiverse’ ‘many worlds’ ‘many dimensions’ one or any of those. It would be just the tiniest, but most wonderful continuity fix.

Just a couple word changes, no panels need to be changed at all.

Something that needs an overhaul

The retcons and plotholes in general. Ive spat quite a bit of salt about the retcons and plotholes already but. WITCH has an undeniable plothole and retcon problem. I love WITCH more than anything, but oh man. It has that one glaring, unfixable flaw.

There are regular adaption plotholes in the cartoon (Biggest one- Why did Yan Lin not give them lessons on how to fight, negotiate, what powers they have and can grow to have, the species that live on Earth and Meridian, a primer into the history of Kandrakar and the other worlds when she was ALIVE to give them?? They didn’t have them and didn’t know anything in the comic, because she DIED and Kandrakar wasn’t gonna go shit for WITCH! They were ALONE!) but oh no, im talking about the comic more than anything.

Everything contradicts itself just. So Much.

It would be fine if it were an american-style comic where each run is its own canon, but its trying to be serial and im dying squirtle.

Decide whether their wings are stylized feathers or butterfly wings or what (in ONE chapter book they changed the canon 3 times!!). 

Decide whether dragons are their powers or not, how their powers even work, what time of year and how old they are judging from the canonical minimum of days that have passed, how serious their job of defending the universe is. Pick a set of truths and stick with them!!!! Twists are ok and you can change the focus and tone over time but you cant just. Kick out established truths and replace them with shit that makes previous nonsense invalid. The overhaul needs to chose their truths BEFORE they start and then stick with it the whole way through!

And their truths they say and then never talk about why they came about need to be de-plotholed. Kandrakar has a noninterference policy? Why? What the fuck does that mean and how come they can send the guardians then? Kandrakar commands the dragons, yeah? Ok, why do they leave them alone all first arc. Matt was part of Kandrakar? Yeah, why didnt he train them into the dirt and not tell them anything whatsoever? Why did he base his relationship with Will on a den of lies that totally shit on his character before that arc????

What it needs to get this overhaul is just a total reboot that takes all these truths and plots, and makes them one cohesive thing.

Only problem. I dont want this fandom getting The V0ltr0n Treatment. I couldnt bear it, to have it get really popular and be filled with people who think its ok to threaten VAs and suicide bait and viciously bully people for daring to have redemption arcs in their fics. I don’t want this place to become a place of fear, I dont want to have the cozy atmosphere be transformed into a hectic high-traffic disk horse zone, even if it gets us an official Perfect WITCH Cartoon.

So no matter how much I want WITCH to have this flawless unfucking of the plotholes... I think I’ll be content with it the way it is.

17 - Something that needs to be revisited

Previous guardians can give us padding arcs until the writers figure out how to plot the main stuff, previous guardians can give us worldbuilding, previous guardians can give us backstory for characters we have met, and can give us villains that feel connected to the current plot.

How neat would it be if we had an issue following Kadma and halinor setting up their magic Illuminati? 

How neat would it be if we had Luba and Yan Lin working together while Yan Lin was still active?

How neat would it be if we got a more in-depth Nerissa origins story, complete with what she plans to do after she stamps all over Kandrakar for the inhumane 40+ years of solitary confinement?

How wonderful, storywise, it would be to have villains and allies who knew past guardians, howevermany cycles back, to see and hear of guardians before, and how they failed, but this time, WITCH wont?

but ok. un. that one fanfic i wrote on wattpad/play i wrote for my 7th grade mythology/english final(dont ask) takes place in DANVERS, way back when it was called Salem Village. it was hashtag #Iconic in the salem world. Okay not rlly but im my canon yeah. (canon as in my oc canon not k—) In that town was rascal, buggy, farrow, lydia, murr, etc etc etc. (still deciding on whether simon should stay in that part of the story hut idk ill decide eventually.)

Sure deaths in that town: Garrett (godfather, soon part of juggernaut), Murr, all my throwaways

I’m Probably Gonna Use These OCs eventually So Theyre Still Alive Maybe: Maddox, Whitney, Cosmo, Miriam, Jett

Alive: Rascal, (simon?), Buggy, Farrow, Lydia

Basically that shit went down: Mafia was defeated as the Godfather was shot by the Jailor, houses are incinerated, Rascal gets called out for arson, Rascal’s house is thanos snapped by Buggy, Buggy kills Murr, and at last Rascal, Buggy, and Farrow (maybe all the others that are Maybe Alive But Maybe Not stayed or fled?)fled (Lydia stayed in town, being spared, Buggy and Farrow continuing to the next town together)(? Maybe? I’m still working on their story together) (Rascal fled, being assumed dead?)

The town was quiet for a while as Lydia was like My City Now tm and probably took reign as the unofficial Mayor, she was spiteful of townies for talking shit about witches and hanging them and shit so she took hand and tried to construct a better town. Eventually the town probably filled back up again and Lydia either fled or was driven out by angry puritan men where she lived away for a bit.

Everyone from Salem Village mainly split up and spread out around Massachusetts, Rascal going back home in Plymouth for a bit, Buggy and Farrow scurryig to Salem Town (town of salem). Cue the ask blog timeline, and then Buggy’s personality flip(Loner ‘your son calls me daddy too’ to ‘Hello nice to meet you’), his arch with Farrow(Buggy gets stabbed by Farrow, Farrow is a bitch, Farrow gets killed by Jailor, Numb_Linkin_Park.mp3, Nevermind Im Fine Now Because I realized My Ex Stabbed Me 20 Times In The Chest.png), Gene moves in, Rascal moves in, Oz is resurrected, Mendel and the Coven gang move in. By now, Salem Village is renamed to Danvers.

Lydia moves back to Danvers, shit happens, the Spiders fuck over the town, Juggernaut fucks over the Spiders, Danvers becomes known as the worst town in Massachusetts, etc etc etc

- Out of all the towns in Mass. that do trials, Rockport is the calmest

- Plymouth doesn’t do trials, so it’s like Rascal’s safe space

- Juggernaut origin and Mendel’s old town i still havent figured out but ill do that someday

i agree with what ur saying wrt the deadpool post but then i went and saw dp2 amd was surprised bc it really is about dp rejection cycles of revenge and embracing compassion and mercy (to some extent) and idk im just confused about why you would reject it so wholeheartedly when the movie really is trying to say the same thing your post is. am i wrong about the movie or do you dislike what it represents to other people & therefore any individual adaptation cannot redeem the concept as a whole?

The plot of Deadpool 2 is too incoherent and nihilistic to say literally anything about anything, honestly. I’m probably gonna say some spoilers in my post so here’s hoping you have some combination of the phrase “deadpool spoilers” blacklisted if you care! I don’t wanna get angry messages about how I spoiled the movie for you because I gave you all three whole paragraphs to hit “J” and skip to the next post before I even mention a single plot detail.

Now, I’ve read detailed plot descriptions of Deadpool 2-- I haven’t seen it because honestly I just can’t bring myself to give money to a project that I feel like should’ve been mothballed within the hour after the production team killed that stuntwoman, and frankly I think less of anyone involved with the project who didn’t walk off set rather than continue making the movie after that-- but I know the whole plot and frankly it sounds like I haven’t missed very much. 

So, the issue with Deadpool 2 is essentially that it carries the same insulting-to-the-audience’s-intelligence thesis statement as “South Park,” which is “got a problem? you’re just overthinking it, who cares this much, it’s just a movie, shut up and enjoy it.” The majority of the time I have an issue with people using the word “plotholes” when an ounce of critical thinking would resolve the problem, but in the case of Deadpool 2, the plot only makes sense if you aggressively refuse to think critically about it.

For example, and here’s where the spoilers start: the villain, Cable AKA Not-Thanos, has come back in time to prevent the murder of his wife and family. Deadpool eventually manages to help him in this endeavor, but gives up his life in the process. Cable’s time machine only has one use left, and he sacrifices his ability to return to the future and be with his family in order to save Deadpool’s life as thanks for his help, trapping him in the present day forever. There’s an ending you can work with, some real pathos, a conflict that you can really truly sink your teeth into as a media consumer. But does it matter? Nah, because Negasonic fixes the time machine in literally the next scene. 

So why doesn’t he just use the now-fixed time machine to go back home? The movie doesn’t stay! The plot, and Brolin’s multi-picture contract, requires Cable to be trapped in the present because his time machine broke, and “the time machine can be, and has been, fixed” seems like a pretty glaring inconsistency to me. The film gives no indication that the fact that Deadpool can give Cable back his ride home will be addressed or resolved in later films. 

In my opinion this is a way more glaring issue than “why doesn’t Thanos just make more resources,” since at least with that you can pretend the answer is “because what he really wants is to kill half the universe, and making more resources doesn’t enable him to do that.” The answer for this is basically just “this isn’t a movie that expects you to give anything a second thought or remember anything but the set-up for the punchline you’re currently hearing.”

There’s also the issue of him going back in time and killing “X-Men Origins Wolverine” Deadpool. I get that it’s a joke but it makes zero sense. A joke that’s only funny if you don’t think about it at all isn’t actually funny. Did Wolverine rewrite that timeline so the current version of Deadpool exists instead of that one? Then why is he able to travel back into a movie that never happened. Did that movie happen as part of this Deadpool’s backstory? Then how can he kill his past self and still exist? The entire joke is “clap if you know what we’re referencing!” and anyone who thinks it’s stupid is just being a buzzkill and overthinking it. 

Which brings me to the other issue-- no part of Deadpool’s character journey in this movie matters in the slightest. None of it. Because it didn’t happen. At the end of the movie he goes back in time and literally erases the plot of the movie. The writers fridged his girlfriend in the opening scene so they could have a whole movie about what happens to Deadpool when his girlfriend dies, but they didn’t feel like committing to it, so they go basically end the movie with a big “just kidding! this was all a What-If situation and none of it actually happened, but if it did, that’s how it would’ve gone down!” They really wanted to have their overtly sexist cake and eat it too!

In order for the story to make sense, the status quo going into Deadpool 3 has to be exactly the same as the status quo going into Deadpool 2, but I know that won’t be the case. I’m sure that, other than Morena Baccarin being in it, the franchise will straight-up never address why Cable can’t go home or how a plot that revolves around Morena Baccarin being unceremoniously fridged in the first scene (by writers who admit they didn’t even know that “women in refrigerators” is a thing until people got upset about it in their movie) can have happened when she’s clearly still alive. 

And that’s the big issue I have and why Deadpool 2 is included in my post about soulless, cynical, insulting entries in the superhero genre. It’s a movie that not only doesn’t make sense, it’s a movie that goes out of its way to spit in the face of anyone who expects it to make sense or ever actually thinks about the movies they watch. 

The movie is absolutely not trying to say the same thing as my post. Deadpool’s brand of casual liefeldian ultraviolence is inherently antithetical to my post’s thesis statement. The only way to make a Deadpool movie that isn’t directly counter to the point I’m trying to make is to either omit him entirely from the movie or portray him unambiguously as a villain. There is no such thing as a Deadpool movie that is not an insult to the superhero genre. His existence as a character is antithetical to the values of mercy, compassion, and reverence for human life. 

Ultimately, the answer to “am I wrong about the movie?” is up to you. If you’re asking me, the answer is “if you like it, then yes.” I’m sure other people find value in it or enjoy it, and I think those people have the wrong opinion, just like I’m sure they think I have the wrong opinion because I hate, and I mean truly despise, the Deadpool movies, the Deadpool comics, and all the Deadpool merchandise at your local FYE. I’m not equipped to tell you that you’re wrong about the movie. This is my position on this movie, if you disagree with it, then as far as you’re concerned, you were right about the movie. If you agree with it, then as far as you’re concerned you were once wrong but now you’re right. You own your opinions and you’re the one who has to decide whether or not they’re the right ones. Anyone who disagrees with my take completely is well within their rights to do so, because I sure as hell disagree with them. They can even think I’m an absolute moron who just wants to rain on people’s parade, doesn’t make an ounce of difference to me. 

Personally, I’m really not interested in changing anyone’s mind. I’m confident my opinion is correct so, just to deter any other anons (I know who this anon is and they’re not a dick, so this part isn’t addressed at them) it would be pointless to try and argue with me. If you think I’m wrong, great, the feeling’s mutual, but I have zero interest in changing my mind or yours beyond what I’ve already done, stating my position and you either agree or disagree. I think you’re wrong and I can live with that. I only ask the same courtesy. 

I also don’t think Ryan Reynolds should’ve been given a second chance to play the character, and tbh I think the main reason he still has an acting career is because he’s a generically inoffensive white dude with name recognition but not much else going for him, but that’s a matter for a different post.

I just thought of a Au where Reimi is actually the morioh serial killer and Kira is a ghost

HEY I LOVE THIS IDEA HELLO YES

I’ll put it under a cut because there’s a lot of text, oof

I’ve had this ask in my inbox for quite a while but I really wanted to develop onto it (with the help of a couple o pals) and so here goes. im gonna try to put all the into we’ve gathered for it

We thought that for this AU to work, it would quite obviously begin by Reimi killing Kira. At this point we, in fact, didn’t change the story that much. Kira still has a hand fetish and still would have turned into a serial killer, had he not been stopped.

The night he went to kill Reimi, he still killed her family (I’ll get to Arnold later), however instead of Reimi being killed, she would’ve killed Kira, possibly by pushing him down the stairs or something (the house probably had em it was huge), maybe stabbing him. After that, she killed Rohan, most likely due to a state of panic/mania that was happening after killing Kira. She possibly still regrets it to this day, in fact, but she wouldn’t have wanted Rohan to tell the police.

It’s in this moment Kira kinda becomes what Reimi was canonly, possibly a bound spirit but a bit more vengeful? Without Rohan, it’ll be probably harder to find him, but I figure he’d probably still help the duwang gang out of spite for Reimi. Small side note: he’s stuck in his 17s. Baby face Kira. The only problem here is that Kira would already know her name which would kind of destroy the suspense.

SO, back to Reimi, she developed serial killer tendencies probably after addiction to the rush/adrenaline of killing someone, but here’s the kick: she still has a sense of justice, like the duwang gang. She kills people who “threatens the quiet town that is Morioh-Cho”, people like Kira or Angelo and all. Obviously, she also kills the one who saw her or know she kills people, etc.

To fit with the average life kind of thing, we figured she’d become a teacher annnd here’s the cool stuff in my opinion: koichi, josuke and okuyasu’s teacher! Must be a big surprise to find out your kind and happy teacher is actually a murderer huh and here’s a pic of teacher Reimi

In that context, I feel like they would all really hesitate if they were ever to suspect her of being the killer they’re looking for.

As for her stand, we named it 「Don’t Stop Me Now」 to fit the addiction kinda thing, where she experiences a Nice rush when killing someone. We tried to make it similar to Killer Queen without being a copy cat and its main ability is to “charge” energy onto and through things, making it a stand with a pretty good range as well as destructive power. It can be any type of energy, like thermal energy or solar energy, mecanic energy, the list goes on. It makes it a pretty dangerous stand, whereas she can, for example, charge an overload of electric energy onto a human, making the system itself pretty much implode or just overreact. Here’s a pic, I took inspiration from her dog arnold, arrows (justice stuff) and the weird leather stuff killer queen is rocking.

There might be some fixing to do, but that’s what I came up with so far!

Onto the latter part of DIU, where in canon, Kira becomes Kosaku and then Matured Kira. The parts here are pretty similar, except that Reimi would rather become Shinobu. She’d probably look very suspicious due to the fact that she’s a housewife suddenly going out a lot more than usual. In this AU, Arnold would be the counterpart to Stray Cat in some way or another that I haven’t figured out yet. Stray doggo.

That’s pretty much what I and pals came up with so far, and there are probably still a lot of plotholes and ways the whole story could go wrong, but I’ll work on it!

looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

Jesus god I haven’t written this much fic..... well. ever. I’ve always dabbled in ficwriting, but I thought of myself as primarily an artist-- this year is the year that cemented the fact that, hey! Maybe I want to be a good writer as well. Basically I wrote about 10 times as much fic as I ever expected to write, but it’s all good  :’D  

what’s your own favorite story of the year?

fdnfjfhujkdfjrs UM probably The Search for Delos; it came to me really vividly and I wrote it all in pretty much one sitting. When I was done, I was genuinely very surprised that I had a piece like this in me. It’s somewhat different from my usual writing style, and it deals with some heavy themes, but this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to achieving my writing style goal of being simple but vivid and achingly profound. 

did you take any writing risks this year?

I joined IRBB, which was risky considering my track record of MONTH-LONG WAITS between chapters and my muse being flighty like icarus :’/ case in point: im only 4000 words in and im stuck as hell. Aside from this, I. uh. Wrote nsfw for the first time and discovered joint writing, which is a wonderful, wonderful thing. 

do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?

I want to try and finish cyclical this year, but as long as I keep a semi-regular update schedule on that one (once a month, or thereabouts) I’ll consider it a success :’/ I definitely have to finish irbb, and apart from that if i’m being ambitious... I’d like to finish f r a y and where the heart rests. 

The other goal is if I manage to finish cyclical (whether this year or in the future), I want to print it with a nice cover and illustrations and have it on my shelf for my own edification :’D 

best story of the year?

I’m gonna be honest i don’t understand this question... I’ve already said my favourite story for the year was The Search for Delos, but is this asking, like, objectively my best piece of writing? I’d still say The Search for Delos :’/ Although, I do think Ritardando was some good writing on my part. 

most popular story of the year?

In terms of Bleach, The Author is Dead was by far and away the most popular (isn’t the title very telling :’/). But overall, That’s Not How You Use a Miraculous got.... ridiculous amounts of reception. God I should continue that fic..... hahaha who am i kidding rip all my ml fics :’/ :’/ :’/ 

story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

I’m actually very pleased to say that most of my fics are received super well by everybody and I’m very thankful 8ㅁ8 Maaaaybe if I had to pick I might point people in the direction of One Of These Days? I think people forget that I write not-angst sometimes. One Of These Days is just super fuzzy and warm and it makes me feel happy every time I remember I wrote it, so if ur in the mood for some ir warm fuzzies go take a look!

Definitely Cyclical. I’m having SO MUCH FUN reliving their early-days snark at each other.

OK, so when Naruto finished back in 2014 and my ships were canon and the other side of the shipwar started writing adultery i was like ????????????? I mean, I didn’t seek em out and harass them for it, they can do what they want, but I was like ‘why adultery in particular. Why don’t you just ignore the ending altogether’ 

cue 2016 and tite kubo runs bleach into the fucking ground, and i fucking UNDERSTAND. Dude, I thought you wouldn’t be able to PAY me to write adultery before 2016 and now you wouldn’t be able to pay me to STOP. Anyway, all my adultery fics fall under this category i suppose. doesn’t stop me from writing them :’/ 

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters & most unintentionally telling story:

all the post-686 adultery that hellchat plotted tbh. 686 opened up WHOLE NEW AVENUES of character exploration that we hadn’t even THOUGHT to touch and honestly, I don’t even want an alternate ending chapter for bleach any more (except the rr novel, that novel can choke), because any single chapter fix is NOT going to cover the vast amounts of plotholes bleach left hanging open. (a bleach reboot that fixes everything wrong with it is a different story though.... god what i wouldn’t give for that.) But yeah, post-686 plotting has opened up some really interesting can of worms in terms of characterisations for our protagonists, and u can see some of it in fics like Listen and Stay. 

hardest story to write:

This Blood On Our Hands. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out overall, but I started writing that fic with only the last line in mind and contriving things so that we could get it to that stage was SO HARD. 

biggest disappointment:

Not managing to get out a single proper long post-686 fic that isn’t a drabble. I mean, I started posting where the heart rests, but I have about 5 on the backburner and I know exactly what’s happening in all of them and I just wanna plough through it while the salt is fresh, u feel? 

biggest surprise:

In terms of what I am capable of re: style and structure and substance, The Search For Delos. The fact that I started writing nsfw, especially fucking Unveiled..... what was I on?! And the fact that I finally understand why some people write adultery fics :’/
