fun fact i still haven't seen this movie. i got this from the library the day before the hurricane proper and it gave me a really lovely two hours of not thinking about the active hurricane the day after. enormous format photographs! full-length shots of every look! ithe little personal notes from each designer were so fun to read, and i think this genuinely healed my heart a little. everyone was so excited to go into detail about what choices they made and what inspired them, and even though i would have loved more specific construction details, specific fiber types, and full-length shots of the Back of every look, i recognize i am a freak.

watched a truly bonkers assortment of films at my bestie's house this week. her husband is big into godzilla and i sat down not really paying attention or planning to pay attention to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024, dir. Wingard) but found myself actually paying attention. i unfortunately was a character i hate, Person Who Stops The Movie Halfway Through To Demand A Recap. loved these guys, whatever the fuck they were

the most fun thing about this movie is that it is not a silent film but it acts like one. there are long, long stretches of movie without dialogue bc all the political action is happening between a bunch of giant monkeys. this is going to sound like im damning it with faint praise but they really thought carefully about directorial and artistic choices here! there was a vision and they executed it! it's fun to look at and not just because there's a big monkey in most of the shots!

got a look at characters for the new fire-themed land coming up this fall. ppl are understandably big mad that the land is based on Ring of Fire cultures and everyone is paper-white. i think it is correct to be mad and ask them to do better, and they have tweaked designs before release before, however, i don't think this will bring about a sea change in gacha games.

i am rolling along clearing out map markers and achievement hunting and my GOD are there a lot of time-gated achievements in inazuma (electricity-themed legally-not-japan). so so so many of them i originally got halfway through or did 1/5 and then wandered off bc i didn't realize there was a quest or achievement locked behind doing something for three or five days in a row. i now have a post-it on the corner of my monitor with nine different things i have to keep checking in on this week. please someone give me a REAL JOB!!!!!!

cross stitch progress. this was the only thing i did last week aside from shake like a chihuahua and sleep. very slow going! may have to ship the package off to my brother with an IOU bc it is already stressfully late.

made the bean influencer soup (creamy miso coconut butter beans). i made a batch before the hurricane last week so most of my notes are from then. the grocery did not have canned butter beans so i made the same thing (big lima beans) from dry. i have not made beans from dry since i was very small. these beans were so large, so pale, so aggressive.

changes: i was able to find a little carton of straight coconut cream at the grocery but they were out of miso paste. i did have miso soup mix and plopped that in. i also used frozen spinch bc it’s cheaper and i felt better about it than the somewhat questionable fresh spinch on offer. also used two onions instead of one and a hearty dollop of minced jarred garlic bc who do u think i even fucking am. i would have loved to use fresh dill, bc i did plant some and it was growing very well, but the caterpillars were very intense and ate almost everything on my balcony.

going in the rotation! im making it AGAIN as im typing up this post! pretty cheap, very tasty, i don't regularly keep butter beans or coconut cream in my pantry but that can change!

(tw vent if that's okay if not you can just delete this, thank you <3) honestly though the hate in this fandom is... so discouraging. like ive been writing fics for top gun & tgm but the fact so many people are so set on being hateful & not respecting others, and now there's a whole burn book blog like... idk i just don't feel like i should put myself out there. which is really sad because i really want to interact. and i know the fandom wasn't like this prior to tgm, and that makes me sad too because i came in after tgm came out, and I just feel so sad that even though im not part of the problem i'm still part of like, the wave of people that flooded the fandom. which would have happened even without me being here, but idk, i just feel... sad, like it feels like tgm (even though it's a really good movie that a lot of people genuinely and innocently love) really screwed ao3 up and sorta just hurt everyone and is still hurting everyone. idk.

it just sucks that fandom is supposed to be a place that brings people together and makes happiness and instead I just feel so drained and upset when I think about posting fics and exposing them to the fandom and apparently whole discord groups to like, pick apart. it's just really sad and sucky.

First of all, don't worry about the burn book people at all, because most of their posts have zero notes. It's just a couple bitter people who think being mean is edgy, and no one is even following them. So, that is a non-issue. It doesn't affect you.

And don't worry about AO3. You didn't do that. It does suck, but it's not your fault, and it's not the end of the world.

The thing that happened when Top Gun: Maverick came out and brought new fans into the fandom is that the fandom got big. And that is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you have all these wonderful creators who are just discovering the movies and the characters, and they're bringing in great new stories and art and meta. I've met a lot of wonderful new people who are just like you: They just want to have a good time in this fandom and interact with other fans who share their passion. And honestly, most people are like that.

The problem is that big fandoms have big fandom problems. Think of it like this: Before TGM came out, the Top Gun fandom was a small town. Everyone active in fandom literally knew everyone else, either firsthand or from a, "Hey, you wrote _______; I love that story! Oh my gosh, and you're _____'s friend? That's awesome. She's the best." This creates a harmonious atmosphere, because everything is personal, it's small enough to be self-governing, and because everyone knows everyone, everyone is accountable for their actions.

After TGM came out, Top Gun fandom is no longer a small town. It's a big city. And it has the same problems that all big cities have. People generally don't know anyone except the people in their immediate circle, so that causes factions and in-grouping, and an "us versus them" mentality. This is why you get shipping wars and stuff like that. The fandom is too big to self-govern, and everyone is here to have fun, so it's not like we're going to elect a governing system, but between that and the fact that everybody doesn't know their neighbors personally, there's no accountability anymore. So for one, there's crime now. For example, there has been a lot of theft since more people joined the fandom. New fans are just straight up stealing content from other people and acting like it's their own. And what are we going to do, call the cops? No. It's just something we have to deal with because we live in a big city.

And, yes, the relative (and, on Tumblr, often literal) anonymity of being in a large fandom where no one knows you does encourage some people's terrible behavior. I talked about psychological and sociological studies of anonymity a little while ago, and the gist is: When anonymity is an option, the general chaos of the system does increase, but individuals just act like themselves, but ... moreso. Think of it like the Captain America serum or the mask from that Jim Carrey movie. Anonymity, even perceived anonymity like being just one person in a large system, just shows what you're really like inside. It dials you up to 11. And most people are kind and leave thoughtful questions or wonderful comments in ask boxes, or just go around with positive thought memes made up of happy emojis just to brighten others' days. That's most people. This small, ugly portion of the fandom that is using the fact that they cannot be held accountable as an excuse to hurt people is aberrant. They're the ones who don't belong here, and you can't let the fear of being their target keep you from enjoying all the good things a big city can afford you. Like, small towns are the bomb, but there are wonderful things that big cities can support that small towns can't. Like International Street where you can get different food from all around the world. Big art galleries. More resources for mentorship. More clubs and opportunities for you to find exactly your niche, and people who share it with you.

You didn't do anything wrong. Things grow and expand. You should be enjoying everything this city has to offer. If you feel comfortable, I would love you to come off anon and message me, and we can talk about getting you comfortable putting yourself out there in this fandom, and maybe I can connect you to some resources or some other really great people in the fandom. We want to hear from you. We want to talk to you. We want you to publish your work. We're happy you're here, truly.

You sighed as you laid next to Bucky once again, something you’d promised to never do again. You had sworn that you were done with him, but every time he came around, you forgot your promise.

You glanced at the clock beside you. 

2:07 am

You sighed, if you could just get out of his hold, you’d be able to leave. For good this time.

You held your breath as you gently peeled his fingers from your waist and you paused when he shifted in his sleep. You held your breath and waited for him to settle before you began to move again. 

When you were finally free of his hold, you wasted no time pulling your clothes back on. You silently chastised yourself as you searched for your keys and your stomach dropped when you spotted them on the nightstand next to where Bucky was sleeping. You chewed your lip for a few seconds before you felt yourself moving closer to his side.

Time stood still as you inched closer to the sleeping man and it felt as if fate was on your side when your fingers wrapped around your key.

You glanced back at the clock.

2:11 am

You hesitated for a few seconds and thought about what you were doing. Was this the right thing? Should you wait until the morning and talk to Bucky?

You shook your head, you knew that if you talked to Bucky, he would try to convince you to stay. Part of you knew that what you were doing was wrong, but you would never get another chance like this again. Now was your time to leave.

After one last look at Bucky, you slowly made your way to the front door and out of his life for good.

After leaving Bucky that night, you made your way back to your hometown, a place you hadn’t been for years, and a place you were sure Bucky knew nothing about.

Your friends and family were surprised when you returned, but welcomed you back with open arms. Shortly after arriving, you found yourself back in a familiar routine, and after a few short months, you were able to relax enough to not feel the need to look over your shoulder anymore.

You loved your hometown in the summer, specifically for the block parties. You hadn’t been to a block party in years and you were excited to go to one. With it being hot out, you opted to wear one of your favorite sundresses. Before you left, you gave yourself a quick look in the mirror and walked out the door.

When you arrived at the party, you were in high spirits. You greeted everyone as you made your way to your friends.

“How are you doing?” your childhood friend, Aisha, asked after giving you a hug.

“Amazing,” you replied with a smile on your face. 

“We need to get you something to eat, Y/n,” Kesha said before she stood to go get you a plate.

“I’m good, Kesha,” you protested, but it was already too late, she was already headed towards the food table to fix you a plate.

You didn’t realize how hungry you were until Kesha placed your plate in front of you and your stomach growled. You listened to your two friends gossip as you ate.

“Have you seen him?” Kesha asked, drawing you back into the conversations.

You quirked your eyebrow in question.

“Girl, you haven’t heard?” she responded. “Someone bought the old Hillman’s place a few months ago and he moved in like two weeks ago, and when I tell you that he is fine, believe me.”

You chuckled, “I heard that someone had bought their property, but I didn’t know they had already moved in.” You reached over to grab yourself a drink from the cooler. “What does he look like?”

“Delicious,” Kesha, responded causing everyone to laugh. “Say I’m lying.”

“Nah, you right,” Aisha responded. “Let me tell you, Y/n, when this man came into my parent’s store the other day, I ‘bout fell out. My sister had to ring him up ‘cause I forgot how to speak.”

“Damn,” you chuckled. “You still haven’t told me what he looks like, though.”

“Right, well he…” she began, but she stopped short and her eyes glazed over. “He’s right over there.” 

You turned and followed her gaze and your heart dropped.

“Bucky?” you whispered.

“Damn, you know him?” Kesha asked as the three of you stared at the man.

You watched as he handed the dessert he was carrying to your old babysitter, Mrs. Miller before he bent down to give her a hug. You watched as he flashed her his mega-watt smile as the older woman fussed over him. 

You watched as he play fought with a few of the neighborhood kids and dapped up some of the men. You shook your head and took a few steps back as he made his way through the crowd, stopping to talk to everyone in his path.

From what you heard, he had only been there for a few weeks and he had managed to worm his way into the hearts of everyone in town.

“You good, Y/n?” you heard Kesha ask.

“How did he find me?” you responded. “Shit, I gotta go.” You began to grab your belongings and started making your way back to your car. 

You ignored the buzzing of your phone as you stuck your key in the ignition and turned. Your heart sank when nothing happened. Desperation forced you to try again only to be met with the same result. You banged your fist on your steering wheel and cried out in frustration.

“Fuck,” you whispered and your shoulders shook as you cried. You needed to get away, but how? You had just reached for your phone when you felt your car shift causing you to look where the movement came from.

You followed Bucky’s movements as he walked to your side of the car. Your heart thudded in your chest as he smirked at you through the window. Your hands tensed around the steering wheel when he knocked on the window and you shook your head ‘no’. His smirk bloomed into a smile and he reached for the door handle. Your breathing increased when you heard the metal from the lock snap and you shuddered when Bucky knelt down beside you.

“You’re a slippery one, Y/n,” he said. He placed his hand on your exposed knee and you attempted to move away from him. “But not slippery enough.”

“Bucky, please,” you begged as his grip tightened on your knee.

“You left,” he stated. His blue eyes were zeroed in on you and you shifted in your seat. “Get out of the car.” You shook your head and he sighed. 

Before you could process what was happening, Bucky unbuckled your seatbelt and pulled you out of the car. You exclaimed at the sudden movement and you cowered as Bucky towered over you.

“You left,” he repeated, his voice much deeper than before. “Why?”

You shuddered and closed your eyes as he pressed his body closure to yours. You felt him stiffen, and a split second later, he pulled away from you. Even with your eyes closed, you felt the heat of his gaze as he dragged his eyes down to your stomach.

The seconds dragged on as Bucky stared at you. There was no hiding it anymore. No more hiding from him.

“You’re pregnant.” Your eyes flew open at his statement. The look of elation on his face threw you for a loop. “Do you know how long I’ve waited for this?” he rested his large hand on your stomach.

You blinked up at him in confusion.

“Do you know,” he began, “how many nights I spent buried deep inside of you, pumping my cum into you while you were sleeping?” 

Your stomach flipped at his words and you tried to sidestep him but he blocked you in. “You’re not leaving me again.”

You didn't specify for what story, so I'll be answering this for my ao3 Harry Potter fanfiction. Sorry not sorry, even though this is a D3F blog. I'll try my best to answer the question for D3F too, but I can't make any promises that they'll be good.

This will be a long post, so I'm placing a cut.

1. If you had to create a soundtrack for your story, what songs would you choose? Why?

Okay, das ist meine Lieblingsfrage aus dem gesamten Post, also THANK YOU SO MUCH! Tatsächlich plane ich das innerlich schon ein bisschen mit, während ich schreibe, wenn ich mir Playlists zusammenstelle.

Die Drei ??? - Auxiliary AU: Aus irgendeinem Grund habe ich Jelena schon immer mit Billie Eilish verbunden. Keine Ahnung warum, aber das hat sich einfach in meinem Kopf so festgesetzt, und weil die Geschichte aus Jelenas Perspektive ist, wird also mindestens ein Billie Eilish Song vorkommen. Womöglich ist der erste Song von ihr, an den man bei Jelena denkt "bad guy", oder "you should see me in a crown" oder etwas Ähnliches. Gute Idee, aber nicht ganz. Billie Eilish steht bei mir oft eher für Jelenas emotionale Seite. Also wäre ein Lied im Soundtrack "i love you". Ich glaube, die Titel erklärt den Sinn dahinter schon ganz gut. Andere Lieder wären "Woman" von Kesha, "Brother" von Kodaline und "Chasing Cars" von Snow Patrol. Ein sehr obscures Lied ist das "Whack World Medley" von Citizen Queen. Keine Ahnung wieso, aber die Vibes stimmen irgendwie. Natürlich wären auch ein paar russische Lieder drin. Angemessene Covers von Kalinka könnten sowohl als Hintergrundmusik zu einem kleinen Kampf, als auch die Musik von einem Flashback sein, je nachdem welche Stelle man nimmt. Es gibt aber ein paar perfekte Lieder, die definitiv rein müssten. Pianistec auf YouTube hat die Drei ??? Intros gecovered. Perfection. Eins davon ist sogar auf Spotify. Sollte in jede D3F-Playlist rein.

Harry Potter time! Obviously, Harry Potter already has a soundtrack. But that would take away all the fun, so... First of all, "Woman Like Me" by Little Mix. It fits the sassy personality and later persona Asteria takes on. Fitting to that, "Teen Idle" and "Oh No!" by MARINA. You can interpret your own reasons into that. "Battlefield" by SVRCINA for Deathly Hallows. "Line Without a Hook" by Ricky Montgomery for the relationship between Percy and Asteria, but it's not meant in a romantic way. "The Night Is Still Young" by Nicky Minaj, maybe for a victory party after a quidditch game, or just for a nice evening with Fred and George. "8TEEN" by Khalid for... something. Just. I like it. "High Enough" by K.Flay for something that I can't tell you what it is without throwing spoilers everywhere. Let's just say the kind of twisted vibe is fitting for it. Could be more twisted. It gets more twisted if I tell you that the song would not be about a person in that case. It wouldn't be about a twisted version of being in love, but about an obsession. A mania even. That's why it fits. Arctic Monkeys in general also would fit the story. "Judas" by Lady Gaga. "Everything At Once" by Lenka. It sounds innocent, right? Well, in this case it's about wanting to be perfect for everyone at once. "Mr Loverman" by Ricky Montgomeryfor Asteria's heartache in later years of the story. "Positions" by Ariana Grande and "Detention" by Melanie Martinez for the vibe. "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" for a cheesy slow dance between Fred and Asteria because obviously they would. But THE most important song of all, which is why I saved it for last: "Arsonist's Lullaby" by Hozier. No explainations given, you'll have to read and find out yourself.

5. What makes your main ship so compatible? Or, what makes them so incompatible? What do they see in each other?

Mein main ship im Auxiliary AU ist tatsächlich Peter/Jelena, auch wenn das eigentlich gar nicht so rauskommt. Peter und Jelena passen zusammen, weil sie sich ergänzen. Man könnte auch sagen, Gegensätze ziehen sich an, aber sie haben auch was gemeinsam. Peter ist ängstlich und vorsichtig. Jelena ist ziemlich rücksichtslos und aggressiv. Man könnte meinen, dass das absolut nicht zusammen passt. Tatsächlich sorgt das aber für eine relativ gute dynamic. Wenn Peter Angst hat, passt Jelena auf ihn auf und wenn Jelena etwas Unvorsichtiges tun will, hat Peter vergleichsweise gute Chancen, sie davon abzuhalten. Peter bewundert Jelena für ihren Mut, macht sich aber auch ständig Sorgen um sie, weil sie so unvorsichtig ist. Jelena findet Peter richtig liebenswert, wenn nicht fast schon niedlich. Sie hat es sich als Ziel gesetzt, ihm endlich mal die Aufmerksamkeit zu geben, die er braucht, und sich um ihn zu kümmern. Deshalb sieht man die beiden oft zusammen und Jelena hält seine Hand, wenn er Angst hat. Das geht mittlerweile schon längst ohne Kommunikation.

Actually, the story doesn't have a main ship. Or at least it's hard to name one and I don't want to say something wrong because I don't want to claim knowing anything about what polyamorous relationships are like and what you call which kind of relationship. Essentially, Asteria, being the main character, is in a relationship with both Fred Weasley and Oliver Wood, though she only starts dating Fred when Oliver has already graduated and the two of them are just friends. I guess I'll answer the question for both relationships and try to keep it short.

I'll start with the relationship that has been going on longer, which is Oliver/Asteria. Oliver loves Asteria for her sense of right and wrong and for the fact that she might just be the only person on the entire planet not to get annoyed or bored when he rambles about quidditch for hours on end or spends a lot of time training or at practice. He's amazed with her understanding for his passion. Asteria, on the other hand, thinks it's exactly his passion that makes him so wonderful. He's not afraid to show it to literally everyone. She also thinks it's adorable how he gets so excited over it every single time someone mentions the subject, no matter how many times he's talked about it before. She never gets tired of listening to him. Another big reason for her to love him is how he reacted to her illness (I won't say here which illness, read yourself). She just thought it was the sweetest thing ever. He also makes her feel safe, which is rare.

Now, Fred/Asteria. A dangerous relationship. A Weasley and a Malfoy. Both of them know that and it's a big factor why others might deem them incompatible. But, actually, they go very well together. Fred and George are the biggest pranksters of the entire school, everyone knows that. Asteria, on the other hand, is a trickster. She breaks almost as many rules as them, but she does it very sneakily. Nobody has ever caught her. Asteria is amazingly good at lying and deception and she enjoys tricking people. So while Fred does the big pranks that are just for fun and sometimes also for revenge, Asteria tricks people mostly for revenge or to follow along with her view of right and wrong. Fred admires Asteria's abilities when it comes to rule-breaking and trickery, but also her craftsmanship and inventive mind. He's essentially forgotten that her last name means that they should be enemies and has completely detatched her from her parents in his mind. Something else he appreciates is that Asteria grounds him and gives him advice when he's about to do something that he'll most likely regret in the future or that will have major consequences. Asteria admires Fred as a person, but also for what he represents through his family - love, acceptance and protectiveness. The kind of family Asteria wishes she had. Fred cheers her up when she is down and makes her worry less. Unlike Oliver, he doesn't make her feel safe. At least not in the same way. But that's exactly what she loves about Fred. He's unpredictable and wild, something that Asteria's childhood was very much lacking. He's supportive of everything she does that other people would call her mad for. Whatever "crazy" or "stupid" thing she wants to try, he does it with her or has already done it and can show her how to do it right. But no matter how dangerously crazy their adventures get, he watches out for her. They're a chaos couple, but also very intimate. Lots of people are confused that their relationship can be both chaotic and calm at the same time.

6. How do you feel the environment your character(s) grew up in shaped them as a human? How does the environment they’re in now shape them currently?

Jelenas Vater ist sehr streng und emotional eher distanziert. Das hat sie natürlich beeinflusst. Einerseits hat sie es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Regeln zu brechen. Sie ist ein Rebell, weil sie diesen Käfig, in den ihr Vater sie gesetzt hat, hasst. Gleichzeitig hat sie aber ihre emotionale Distanzierung von ihm. Als Kind hat sie natürlich immer noch versucht. Kinder sind eben deutlich emotionaler. Aber spätestens mit dem Tod ihrer Mutter war ihr Vater emotional gesehen nur noch eine Steinsäule und Jelena ist selbst emotional kalt geworden. Sie ist es einfach nicht mehr gewohnt, mit irgendwen über ihre Emotionen zu reden. Musik ist ein sehr großes Medium für sie was das angeht. Es hilft ihr, die ganzen aufgestauten Emotionen einfach rauszulassen. Ihr extremer Beschützerinstinkt und die Einteilung von Leuten in Gut und Böse kommt vom Tod ihrer Mutter - und womöglich aus Filmen, die sie in der Richtung nach dem Tod beeinflusst haben. Schließlich ist es in Filmen normal und sogar gut, dass der Hauptcharakter böse Menschen bekämpft, verletzt und womöglich tötet. So ähnlich verhält es sich mit Jelena. Sie selbst zögert nicht, jemanden zu verletzen, wenn er ihr oder anderen droht. Aber wehe jemand kommt ihren Freunden zu nahe. Seit sie mehr Zeit mit den Jungs verbringt, hat sie sich definitiv zum Besseren verändert. Sie hat endlich jemanden, mit dem sie über ihre Emotionen reden kann - zumindest theoretisch. Die Jungs haben es auch geschafft, sie zumindest etwas aus ihrem aggressiven Kampfmodus zu holen und ihr dabei geholfen, den Tod ihrer Mutter endlich richtig zu verarbeiten.

Growing up a Malfoy will always shape a character. But that's especially the case with Asteria because of her illness and the fact that she's two years older than Draco. This means that she was born during the First Wizarding War. Her illness was clearly visible and known at birth, so she immediately became an unwanted child. This was always a big factor in her childhood at Malfoy Manor. She was locked in the manor for most of her childhood and whenever she went out, she had to take potions to make her appear normal. Still, she had her parents' blood purist beliefs, so she thought this was the right thing to do, even if she suffered under it. However, she soon breaks out of these prejudices during her first two years at Hogwarts, seeing with her own eyes that blood status does not matter. Hermione finally gives her the final push in her third year. Now, Asteria has practically turned fully against her parents and is taking Draco with her, even when he is still mostly trying to keep up his snobbish bully persona. This position of hers becomes stronger and stronger as she becomes close friends with Fred and George and starts dating Oliver. It's hard to say where "growing up" ends and where "currently" starts, so let me just say: Asteria is under constant influence from the outside and inside, wether she wants it or not, especially with Voldemort's return. Things spin wildly out of her control.

what’s the best song on evermore and why is it no body no crime

mbecause:

a) “kill terrible men” is a classic country trope and taylor finally doing it as a much more experienced songwriter and musician only makes it all the better because we all get a taste of that sweet sweet country vibe again. it has the combined nostalgia of the trope that really just. SKYROCKETS u back and then hearing taylor in a country style again-- double nostalgia! a lethal hit!

b) the changing meaning of “no body no crime” and “i think he did it but i just cant prove it” and “i aint letting up until the day i die” and its variations over the song. it gives a really cyclical feeling to it and makes it a FULFILLING listen!

c) haim’s harmonies just give the song such a feeling of fullness. i really really hope they become a reoccurring collab with her, and that they’ll do some more back-and-forth stuff in the future rather than keeping haim in the background. in the past taylor’s primarily done duets/back-and-forths with guys bc the majority of her songs were love songs but im hoping that now that she’s branching out more w her subjects she’ll do more stuff w women as duet partners! (if she ends up doing bonus versions of her old songs in the remasters i would LOVE some of her old songs as duets w other women, specifically fifteen, never grow up, and mean. (also if she wants to bring the chicks back for her old songs about her mom... i would sob.)

d) THE HARMONICA. i worship at the harmonica altar. (quick harmonica background: my grandpa is actually a harmonica player and i grew up listening to him playing in blues clubs and w different bands so every time i hear a harmonica it just makes me. instantly nostalgic. yes i love betty why do you ask)

e) its just. so fucking badass. i actually cackled out loud the first time i heard “good thing my daddy made me get a boating license when i was fifteen” because it just. thrilled me.

it also.. hmm. how do i put this. this album has speak now energy. part of it comes from what feels like the continuation of a lot of themes and motifs from speak now (panting blue skies gray, magic/enchantment, infatuation, relationships in which you’re left behind or not valued, wistfulness for the past) and this song in particular along w tolerate it, champagne problems, dorothea, and marjorie really feels like it could be a speak now track. i envision it somewhere in the better than revenge -> innocent -> haunted cluster. part of it comes from the country vibe, part of it comes from the brutal “fuck you”-ness of it, and part of it comes from the fact that this is a track she wrote on her own like all of speak now!

and. yknow. speak now is my favorite taylor album. so that. probably has something to do with me liking this song so much.

(my favorite on this album is a highly contested spot. nbnc is in the running but i LOVE tolerate it and i think champagne problems might be like. one of my favorite songs of hers. if this makes any sense it feels like reverse “last kiss”)
