This post contains spoilers -
Apparently there is a scene where Ezran and Aaravos have a conversation (and Erik Todd Dellums delivers an insanely amazing performance) and I couldn't help but think, could this be the part where The Orphan Queen is discussed? Ezran is said to be just like TOQ so it would make a lot of sense if this is where Aaravos talks about how he was betrayed by the first of Ezran's royal lineage. Especially one Aaravos was close friends with (backed up by the soundtrack saying The Orphan Queen/An Old Friend).
Of course, this is all speculation and the conversation could indeed be about Leola but I think this would be the perfect opportunity for them to transition into a flashback with TOQ and Aaravos.
And from hearing Erik giving such a great and seemingly emotional performance, maybe a certain theory of using Leola to trap Aaravos really isn't so farfetched 👀

𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 being proven wrong as you approach, and you realize that the gate is not yet repaired. There is no splintered wood nor crumbling rock to serve as evidence of the invasion carried out by the Armored but the place where the gate is supposed to stand, even though you know the memories of the Warrior’s Titan mark every survivor.
Still, it is Bertholdt's presence that settles over Shiganshina. Maybe it's because the damage caused by Reiner has already been, in a way, repaired by Eren, as it is his Titan that now guards the gate to the city. It is eerie how the Wall doesn’t move nor sway, and yet what stood years against the snow, wind and rain is marked by a handprint on its summit.
As you get closer, you start to notice how the crystal seems to glow from within, a brighter and bigger sample of the lamps carried by the Scouts. It's dark purple where there is shadow and painted blue by the sun rays that bounce against its surface. But the overcast clouds seem to tint it a melancholy grey, sucking out the color of the once vibrant place.
The cart skids to a halt as you approach, and wooden platforms are brought down by pulleys to assist you in getting over the wall. You accept Armin’s hand when he offers you help in stepping down, your feet striking the earth as you move out of the cay of the others.
You stand still for a moment, looking upwards at the Wall.
It stands 50 meters tall above you, towering over your group. The others, having grown up next to walls their whole lives, are not as easily impressed as you, so you stand alone at the side, gawking at the sheer presence of the stone structure.
But it's not really stone, you remember. It's titan crystal, less so blue and more so grey and weathered than the one plugging both entrances to the city. Under them reside thousands of Colossal titans, struck up from the ground by a king of yesteryear, who vowed against war.
“It's big, huh?” Armin asks when he sees your upwards gaze.
You would make a that's what she said joke if you weren't unsettled by the magnitude of the future hanging over you, by the significance of the past standing below you. Judging by the handprint, you are more or less where Bertholdt once stood along with Reiner and maybe Annie, ready to carry out Marley’s will.
And in a messed up way, you are too. Not Marley’s will specifically – hell would freeze over before you did a thing that country preached. But you are under Zeke’s orders to infiltrate the island, just like the Warriors once were, and pave the way for his own ulterior motives. You were a double, triple, quadruple agent, working for both teams, your own, and the audience.
“Yeah,” you answer, a little breathless from all the things running through your mind. “It's… intimidating.”
“I guess it can be,” – He guesses? – “they’re not exactly… conventional.”
“You can say that again,” you answer.
Armin lets out a small laugh, rubbing his nape. He leads you over to one of the wooden elevators as you ponder on the implications of it all, so lost in thought you almost bump into him when he comes to a stop.
The elevator you get on is boarded by him and Levi, who also brings his horse, and you are slowly brought up by two pulleys situated at the top of the wall. The way up is gradual, in the sense that there is not much to do, much to talk about, much to see but the horizon that stretches past the field and the forests.
The wind whistles against your ears as you are elevated in the air, getting you closer and closer to the zenith. It's unreal, and the view from the side of the Walls steals your breath away just like the Walls themselves. It's twenty meters, then thirty, then fourty. Finally, at the fifty meter mark, you disembark the wooden structure, careful to not step on the unused rails that decorate the Wall’s perimeter.
You pay no mind to the neighs of Levi’s horse as the captain leads him to the elevators on the other side, preferring instead to break off from your small group in favor of peeking over the edge, towards the city. You do so carefully, knowing you are not clumsy enough to fall, but still exercising an adequate amount of caution.
There, with the wind running through your hair, tousling your cape, you bear witness to the tragedy of Shiganshina. There are two craters in the middle of the city, running deep, stretching wide. Twins; siblings. They scar the earth, leaving nothing but crumbling houses and half cleaned rubble around them, a stark scar the city bears from the altercation last year.
There is a river that flows all throughout Shiganshina, extending past the borders established by the Wall. Houses that harbor what little the people of the district left behind in their panicked retreat line the streets, and you marvel at how little they look from up where you are.
A presence steps beside you, and you don't need to crane your neck to know who they are. Eren contemplates the city in a similar fashion, his cape matching your own in the rhythm the roaring wind dictates. Your fingers clench the fabric of your pack as you survey the view.
You don’t need to look at him to know what he is thinking about. In the two weeks that it had taken you to arrive to Shiganshina, Eren had reverted back to his gloomy self, not offering much in terms of conversation or facial expressions. But you, much like him, remember the promises made under the blanket of dawn.
Bertholdt’s Colossal – now Armin’s– had been able to command such destruction in so little time. It had resulted in both the death of Armin and his resurrection, as well as the animosity you are sure many exhibit towards him, a sentiment shared with Floch.
So what could you do against thousands of them? If one’s brute force rendered –or rather, will render– Liberio’s navy useless, what did you possibly think you could do against an army commanded by the boy standing next to you?
You shift your gaze towards Eren, whose eyes seem to be glossed over with words left unsaid, with memories better left forgotten. But if he's anything like you, the very act of wanting to forget does nothing but enliven the contents of your premonitions.
His eyes meet yours and you wonder what he is thinking about now. Is it Carla, who perished at the hands of Dina? Is it Ramzi, who was crushed under the weight of giant feet? You don’t know which is worse; the undeniability of the past, or the indisputability of the future.
But there is no time to dwell on what was and what could be. You pull away from the call of the void, walking towards where Armin is waving at you. There are now two horses in the elevator, Levi’s and another you assume to be Armin’s.
The ropes twitch and groan as you are lowered into the district, and the slight wobble of the wood sends your heart into a faster tempo. It only begins to slow down when you are back on the safety of solid ground.
You wait for the others to come down, standing next to Armin as he straps his things to his horse, handing him your own when he gestures to you. The cart would do more harm than good when passing through the cities, so you’ve been relegated to passenger duty on Armin's horse.
“Oh, wait–” you say just as you are handing him your things. “Let me just get something out first.”
“Sure,” Armin says as you begin to rummage through them.
While Mikasa’s tea leaves have done little to prevent or minimize your headaches, they give you something to chew on on the road, so you want to get those out while it is possible to do so. But what falls out of your things when you are taking the packets out is not something you remember packing in the first place.
It is a small, black drawstring bag, similar to ones you’ve seen contain jewelry or other precious but small things. The material is too delicate to be from Paradis, and you’ve seen similar bags on Liberio, so you know it is something you unknowingly brought from Marley.
You frown, crouching to pick up the bag. Your face contorts even more when you notice that it is extremely light, as if the only thing that weighs in it is its own material. You distinctly remember your bag being vetoed as nothing dangerous, so you can't help but wonder if the contents of the bag were confiscated before you could get to it.
“What’s that?” Armin asks when you straighten up.
“I have no idea,” you answer, fighting a flinch when another voice pipes up from behind.
“What’s what?” Eren asks.
You wordlessly show him the small pouch, throwing it up in the air and catching it, feeling even more confused when nothing is heard from its insides. So, expecting nothing, you decide to open it anyway. What did you have to lose? The Scouts had already revised it, so they couldn’t fault you for doing so.
Nothing catches your eye when you peek into it, but the real surprise comes when you turn it upside down and shake it onto your held out hand.
A single button falls from the confines of the pouch, landing directly on the center of your palm. And this simple button should definitely not make you want to cry, but you have to take a deep breath before tears start coming out your eyes.
It's true that you didn’t have the permission to take things –your clothes– that were not rations and water from Marley, because either way the Scouts could seize it, or you could lose it, or it could simply be something to hang over your head. You argued with Zeke over it, wanting a part of your home for comfort in those foreign lands, but he didn’t budge.
However, something seems to have gotten through to him, because, without you knowing, he sniped away a button from the garments you arrived in, stowing it away inside your bag for a surprise when you arrived.
There is no note, only a lone button and the bag it came in, but to you it is now one of your most prized possessions. What a cruel joke that the evidence that Zeke cared for you, even if just a little, came to you in the very place that arguably suffered the most because of his exploits.
“It's a button,” you say after a moment. “A token from home.”
“You’ll lose it if you stash it there,” Eren says when you stuff it inside your pocket. “I don’t have string but… I think I know where to get some.”
“You don’t mean…” Armin trails off. “The basement?”
Eren nods. Armin’s eyes dart towards Levi, who catches his gaze and raises an eyebrow at his skittish behavior.
“Something of the matter, Arlert?” Levi asks, approaching.
“No, sir,” he answers, fiddling with the straps that hold your things to the back of his horse.
“I’d like to show Y/n the basement, sir,” Eren responds, voice flat to lend credibility to his excuse. “Maybe her perspective could show us something else.”
Levi narrows his eyes, darting them between Eren and you, but maybe your two weeks of compliance have softened his suspicions of you because he doesn’t immediately shut down the idea. Hange’s chipper voice only seals the deal.
“Oh? You want to extend the tour? Sounds like a great idea” they chirp. “Hey, why doesn’t Mikasa accompany you too? Surely she knows the district just as well.”
You accept Hange’s way of both looking out for you and keeping you in their sight. It is clear they trust Mikasa to cut you down should it be required, but they also know you’ve grown closer over the past two weeks. Mikasa, on her part, nods and falls into step next to Eren, with you following after them.
The atmosphere is eerie, the crunch beneath your boots strange enough you decidedly do not look down for fear you will find something other than rock. There is not one house without debris on its roof, with some completely torn from their foundations. There are traces of fire, of ash, of dried out blood.
Maybe Hell started in Shiganshina. Maybe the tragedy you want to prevent has already started.
But no matter, now you are too preoccupied –forcibly preoccupied– with not getting lost in the district, where every street and every building looks the same to you. Greenery swallows them, blending rock and dirt along the way, blemished by rocks, by wood, by forgotten belongings.
“We are here,” Eren says, stopping on the edge of the path.
The scene is brutal.
Up the cobblestone stairs sits a house– or more accurately, sat a house. Eren’s childhood home is completely destroyed by a boulder, the same one that trapped his mom under it, if your memory serves you correctly. The roof is at eye level, laying on top of the wooden ruins that
made up the structure.
The trapdoor they lead you to is right at the base of the boulder, having escaped the house’s fate by just a couple of meters. Although if the scratches on the door are anything to judge by, then there was a small rock on top, which probably got carried away the first time the Scouts discovered the basement.
They open the trapdoor, and you walk down the stairs after them, coming eye to eye with a broken door. You remember Levi kicking it down after the key Eren had brought with him hadn’t worked. You wonder if its protocol, to find a quick, brutal way to resolve problems, even if the consequences of such actions are something that marks it forever.
You chide yourself. Time is a privilege; you more than anyone –except Eren, probably– know how little you have left, how every second of it must be taken advantage of before it is too late. The fact that they had little to no time and still did the best they could is something to admire, not reprimanded.
Mikasa lights the lamp she had brought with her, flooding the room with it so you can see clearly. The study of Dr. Jaeger is full of books, vials and writings. Artifacts stand on every corner of the room, but there are too many empty spaces for it to feel organic. You guess whatever stood there was confiscated or something of the sort.
“I didn’t really need the string, you know,” you tell Eren, who is busy searching through various drawers.
“A want is not less than a need,” he answers cryptically.
“Hange said that,” Mikasa says.
“So what?” Eren says. “Doesn’t make it any less true.”
You fidget, anxious without anything to do. You can’t help but feel as if you are intruding, being somewhere you are not meant to be. So, with nothing to do, you stroll around the room, reading the names of the books, some Eldian, some Marleyan.
“Do you think the house next door still has those scissors they used to lend us?” you hear Eren ask Mikasa.
“Probably. Why?” she responds.
“Could you look for them? I found the string but it's too long.”
You turn around just in time to see Mikasa’s suspicious glance, only this time it is not directed towards you, but towards Eren. Her eyes also dart towards you, albeit with less wariness that you thought she would.
“Are you sure?” she asks him, to which Eren nods.
Mikasa hesitates for a moment, but then steps through the ruined door, making her way to the neighbor’s. You watch her leave, looking as her scarf gently sways with every step she takes, going up to places she has roamed far longer than you.
Eren is back to rummaging throughout the study, even with his earlier statement of being able to find the string.
“So?” you ask amidst the silence. “Did you want to talk about something?”
You had touched upon his memories, yours, and the tragedies soon to come that dawn at the beach. He had the upper hand, the home turf; you had the better part of the future mapped out, and the knowledge that came with being an outsider.
But you hadn’t told him about your heritage, nor Zeke’s plan, nor the way you watched him break down in the last years of his life. So you are rightfully scared he might take his words back when he realizes you haven’t been entirely truthful with him.
“Talk?” he asks, snapping you out of your rabbit hole. “About what? Did anyone say anything? Was it Floch? If it was him I’ll–”
“He didn’t say anything,” you say, more surprised than anything. “I meant about the whole… future thing.”
“Oh, that,” he says, twisting his body so he is face to face with you again. In his hands lies a bunch of thread, so the scissors weren’t an excuse to get Mikasa out. “Why? Do you?”
“I just thought you wanted to. You know, when you proposed we go to the basement,” you say, each word sounding more and more ridiculous as you say them. “I thought maybe it was a ploy so nobody would hear.”
Eren tilts his head to the side, stepping closer to you. As he does, you notice the expressionless eyes regain a small fire, still, it was too small to compare with the him from before.
“This isn't…” he starts, struggling with finding the right words. “I’m not just talking to you because of that.”
“Well, yes,” you say, chuckling awkwardly. “I know that.”
“I think you don’t,” he replies. “It’s nice talking to someone who knows, sure, but not everytime we get together we have to talk about that.”
“Oh,” you say.
Back at Marley, your day to day life was ruled by what you knew and by what you would do with that information. Every word you exchanged with Zeke had an undertone to it, however kind, however innocent. For the past year you had done nothing but agonize over things yet to come, over people yet to suffer.
But it seems it's different here.
“Come on,” he says, side stepping onwards the stairs. “If Mikasa doesn't find the scissors I'll cut it with my blade.”
“Yeah,” you say after a beat, following him up the stairs. “Okay.”

as i was awake in the middle of the night for like 2 hours bc i felt sick i had more somewhat random totk thoughts
one being that i really hate how raurus response to concerned zelda is, after sonia died in that almost funny how little impactful it was way, "im sure you are here for a reason" (actually, i hate how often this sentence is used in general to .. idk i guess its supposed to be inspiritational???)
bc what does that mean actually? him saying that to someone who got there absolutely by accident really just sounds like "i dont care go figure it out yourself bc i dont want to think about anything concerning you or your troubles lol" i guess its meant to sound like OOOOH fate has BROUGHT you here bc you have to furfill a role you dont know yet (spoiler its being a sacrifice girl with no personality) and besides me hating the 'inescapable fate' trope in general (at least the way its usually done in these games, which is not to struggle against it but willingly accept whatever you are told and pretend thats good) its really jsut goddamn boring and is really only an excuse to well .. ignore her and her trouble; shouldnt you, if you were actually such a cool guy like the game wants me to believe so bad, do everything in your power to get zelda back to her own world before shes pulled even further into the war you caused now that her only ""mentor"" that could help her get more use of her pretty much useless sudden powers is gone too?? i know shes basically dead wife sonia replacement (can of worms ugh) but it still grinds my gears whenever i think of that cutscene, bc i cant help but hear it as the lamest excuse in existence to not care about her and just kinda .. see what happens which in this case means leave zelda completely on her her own since both rauru and mineru die as well (honestly shouldnt rauru have thought about like .. any plan to defeat gan besides dying himself, given hes the oh so cool and goodest guy king whos only mistake was not stabbing gan the second he stepped into their kathedral castle thing, like even if you had a plan it can still fail but it seemed like he just kinda went in with a handful of people that didnt seem to know each other at all, never got names or faces -or unique voices for that matter- to fight gan face to face inlcuding the girl that came from a different time and had nothing to do with any of this conflict and couldnt even really control her sudden new powers just seems pretty stupid)
thought 2
how totk really feels like botw but for the people who didnt like shiekah tech, its not a sequel, its botw again, but version of only sonau, its like a pokemon game that had two versions but one has weirdly incoherent story and acts like the other never existed jsut as a whole its like retreading the same points but worse, all shiekah tech that was so integral to the world and had such a long history just vanishing and no one caring about any of it like it never happened, HELL the titans were called divine beasts in english but i guess they werent divine or important enough to keep around LOL champions WHO and isntead a never before seen or even heard of race for that matter showing up and planting their ass in every place the shiekah were before, dare i say it feels weirdly manipulative, like either them or some outside force erasing every fact about the ancient shiekah and replace them with sonau stuff bc they are the hot new shit now
this is a point that just doesnt stop bothering me, how the shiekah tech seemed so carefully designed and integrated into botws world and story, its a difficult to keep balance after all, integrating high tech stuff into a medieval setting, but they made it work! and then totk comes around and throws a bunch modern day tech into it puts some vague greenish stone filter on its exterior and call that even better more ancient tech; why did they even bother to make pottery inspired laser shooting spider legged robots so well integrated when they throw a car and rockets into the next game without a thought and call it a day, what was the fucking point
it feels like someone was dead set on having a set of legos thrown into the game it had no place in, if you want players to build whatever they want make a building game instead!! especially if you are just gonna throw it in with seemingly no consideration how out of place it feels togehter with the fACT THAT YOU ALREADY HAD AND ANCIENT HIGH TECH CIVILIZATION WITH A VERY DISTINCT AESTHETIC THAT WAS ALREADY WELL INTEGRATED INTO THE WORLD YOU ARE PLANNING TO REUSE WITH ALOT OF MYSTERY AND UNKOWN STUFF ABOUT THEM TO EXPLORE FURTHER YOU COULD HAVE USED!! but i guess they just "didnt want to play with you anymore" and that so much so that they went out of their way to erase every trace of it, i dont think the words shiekah tech are ever used in the game, and the purah pad and her towers just drive me more isnane bc they are the same shit but called different and also much worse, liek the purah pad isnt some more developed shiekah stone, no its a glorified camera with a teleport function and thats it
(i know i said this before but i really cant stand how obsessed every single NPC is with sonau shit, you get told to your face every second line of dialog that they are so cool and are so mysterious that it just makes me annoyed of them even more, the game is obsessed with shoving them everywhere and telling you over and over you too should obsess over them, they werent weird like that about the shiekah stuff in botw?? the biggesst talking point in botw was calamity ganon ..... which makes sense and in totk its like ... gan is mentioned what, in a newspaper article??? once???and then not even by name i think???)
aside from that big point which will never let me go, its also just .. its not moving forward anything, it actively walks BACK the progress that was made in botw, call me dumb but i dont really count moving one step up in the social roles of each race as a character development (for the side characters like the champions desc- ahem SAGES) but mainly zelda ... god how dirty she was done, totk pretty explicitely makes her regress any development she made in botw aside from she likes link uwu and some people like her too, but also not enough to notice that that weird zelda being all evil and weird isnt her (INLCUDING THE CHAMP- SAGES WHO YOU ARE SUPPOSEDLY FRIENDS WITH??? you dont have to be a genius to pick up on that my god, were you all given the mc dumbo potion or what)
she gets put back to square one, back into the little itty bitty princessy maiden role forced upon her by her royal parentage, this time rauru edition, back into a white little dress, back into the scared puppy eyed teenager, back into a situation she cant handle, back into losing everyone around her (tho honestly botw made me care more about rhoam than totk did about rauru), back into being forced to do a big sacrifice- but worse actually
in botw she went to FIGHT AND HOLD GANON IN THE CASTLE SO LINK HAD TIME TO RECOVER AND IT WOULDNT DESTROY THE LAND!! and you are telling me in totk rauru takes up her botw role and she bascially killed herself to ... restore the mastersword.
......... she ... she did that only to be a glorified version of the stone pedestal in the forest. and then she gets returned to normal itty bitty girly no problem via magic sparkle beam at the end and
DOESNT
EVEN
REMEMBER.
it really is just botw but worse, you even get yet another ghost king of hyrule to guide you around (rhoam did it better fight me ... we dont talk about the questionable choice to make himself darker skinned when posing as just some guy)
i honestly dont think i was ever truly taken aback by anythign that happened in botw, while in totk, the further i played, the more i had to fight with myself to keep the feeling of unease, disappointment and betrayal down
its such a god damn shame, totk should have stayed a DLC, i will forever mournfully dream of a game that explores more of the ancient shiekah, doesnt erase integral parts of the world, developes characters more instead of making them regress back and make them end up even less developed than at the start of the game, dives into buried secrets and mistakes of dark pages of history without giving into a weirldy nationalist(imperalisitc?) narrative and lets characters have some agency for once
if it werent for the yiga i might have actually considered refunding the game, just to be at peace with myself
anyway, aboslutely incoherent word vomit.

I was having a bad day yesterday so i pulled a random tarot card and drew an interpretation of it. I just finished the owl house and have a lot of feelings about it. I kind of just dissociated for a few hours and this came out. im really happy with it so far though.
ramble and symbolism below
I tried to keep as much of the RWS tarot form with the ribs surrounding king instead of the orobourus-wreath.
I really like king/the titan as the world, symbolizing huge changes, death and rebirth as well as literally being the world.
i tried to do some more work on it today but my brain wasn't cooperating. Drawing a bunch of tiny trees sounds like a good time tbh but apparently not today. I dont normally post my art anywhere but maybe posting this WIP will encourage me to work on it more.
I've been out of my meds for a little bit and my brain is all scattered and its been really rough, but making art has been helping a lot. ive had a few times recently where creating art has seemed effortless and ive gotten completely lost in the process and come out the other side really happy with what ive made. i feel like im improving a lot after a long time (maybe years) of not feeling like i have been much at all.
there are good things too. even if its hard to see them. I guess thats what this card is about.

nano day four
words today: 3145
words total: 8649
day four! weekends are actually the days i set aside to write, so i was always gonna write more on 'em. probably couldve gone longer, but i finished the chapter and. fuck it. im writing like 1.6k words minimum every day so i dont feel the need to write so much on weekends, not this month!
fun time today! focused a lot too on fleshing out the chapters to come--ive got all my ideas i just have to mesh them together into a coherent narrative. i'll get there. eventually. it doesnt have to be perfect the first time around.
though i do really like what i've got, haha. im really in the home stretch, now, and that's its own sort of scary--i need to stick the landing ive been building up for 600k+ words--but like, im so CLOSE. just this, and watching and dreaming, and then whatever the hell the epilogue will be, and...
but im getting way ahead of myself. for the future now, actual future later.
my favorite part of what i wrote today:
“I’m sorry,” King says. “For what?” Eda stoops down to drag him into the hug, him and François both, and there King catches sight of some of the threads connecting him and his rabbit—thin but strong, intertangled, ours. A lot like Eda and Firefly. A Titan with a stuffed rabbit. A witch with an owl-beast. King says, “do you think this is supposed to happen?” “Nah,” Eda says, “but where’s the fun in only being what you’re supposed to?” “Huh.” King scrambles up to balance around Eda’s shoulders, press his head to her own. “I guess you’re right.”

Finale thoughts:
pacing up until luz's death was acceptable, fine, no problems really
pacing really fell apart toward the end
why were amity hunter gus and willow even in their own subplot if that subplot was so minimized it was almost entirely irrelevent? why couldnt they be there for the big boss battle and to see luz's death? :(
wow. all luz's friends and camila really became completely irrelevant LOL. raine got more than hunter.
no stab :( i still think they wanted it but. rip
wow family really... got dropped this time. im surprised that for all the wonderful eda and king and luz togetherness... we never had luz call eda mom or eda use the word daughter, and luz never called king her brother. or hunter. its so built up that hunter and luz are belos and caleb parallels and like. siblings as hell. im... surprised that was completely dropped
post canon rejected sorry
waffles can stay
no, i mean. theres a lot of things in the timeskip i do like but. a loooot i do not care for.
luz moved back home and finished human school? why? i really thought we were building up to camila letting her go, that she loves luz more than she loves having her, that the same way vee doesnt belong in the boiling isles anymore luz no longer belongs in the human realm. uh. guess... not.
morningmark really hit it on the nose with that darius and hunter meeting comic huh
love that darius points out his shirt and gets the boy infodumping and also love the little alador scene but also
seriously darius cannot have custody
i am.... SHOCKED he did not get adopted as a noceda. i am legitimately shocked i was 100% that was a forgone conclusion
shocked and disappointed actually. sorry yall, fully rejected im just going to have to ignore this
damn hunter got tall lmfao
every single hairstyle after thanks to them has been so bad oh my god. give willow her hair back. cut hunters fucking hair again. GIVE EMIRA BACK HER HAIRRRRR.
i like that the portal is in the center of town
love the integration of nature and native boiling isles culture into civilization and modern culture. all the little titan imagery weaved into clothes, the big ol tree
i am still baffled and confused about humans and staff magic. luz's list of classes and the way she talks still seems to imply she cant do normal magic but. shes? she does magic. what? whats happening
what is going on with hunter. can he do magic? can he do spell circles? what?
lol owlbert allowed to exist again
not liliths raven i guess
do love her getting a raven harpy form last minute tho. did not need to be in the climax, just fine as a post canon reveal
they should not have done a timeskip. name one time a story has ever ended with a significant timeskip that has been satisfying. a timeskip of a few weeks or even a few months can work, aftermath, but a timeskip where development or major life events happen without the viewer? its never satisfying. it always leaves people a llittle hollow and frustrated. they should have just done her actual quinceañera after the defeat of belos and like. idk. a few weeks or a couple of months as our time skip instead of three-four years. dont like that at all.
im sorry what the fuck. the collector... left? we had a perfect excuse to depower him and let him stay and live among mortals and grow up. like i legitimately thought right before they said he left that eda was going to adopt him and he was going to join the family. im.... alright
im sorry. i dont like luz's titan magic form.
haha get fucked goop man
LOVE luz looking down at him with silent content
LOVE that it is boiling rain that begins to destroy him. it is the world itself, all of nature that ends up, he is rejected by the world he has invaded. and then he gets fucking stomped to death lmfao
also just like. fucking YES THANK YOU saying point blank to luz, no, killing the genocidal maniac does not in fact make you as bad as him. like. at all. thats ludicrous
luz's death scene was so fucking perfect, the scene itself was framed, scored and paced perfectly. i legitimately felt fucking sick watching it. i was full on nauseous. powerful and impactful. no matter how much i knew she was obviously not dead dead, it GOT me.
god please fix hunters hairrrrrrr

Im gonna run through this with what im pretty sure we know from the show, and some theories
King's gylphs actually show up on the bubble he forms to protect the Collector during his beserk rage. the one to the right is his Light glyph, and based off his dad's glyphs, i'd guess the right one is an Ice glyph, and the top one is a plant glyph. that's presuming he has the same elements in his glyphs then his dad.
Tumblr media
2. i have no idea why he or Eda enters berserk mode, im just as confused to you, same to question 3
4. Why do harpy eda and titan Luz have similar eyes, probably because Luz or her subconscious designed her titan form around the witches and demons she knows. King's hands and claws, Eda's eyes, etc
5. What did the archivists do to the baby titans. based on the very small skulls in the Titan Trappers base, probably killed them. Especially considering Bill, when under the Collector's puppetry, referred to them as King's 'siblings'
6. How did the archivists defeat the titans. good question, not sure. The mural on King's tower's wall and the Collector's painting both depict titan trappers taking down a Titan, or, based on the shooting star going towards the titan, distracting them for long enough for the Collectors to attack. but, ultimately, we dont know exactly how they managed it, though they are literal gods so who knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Did the archivists know about the Titans before the collector met the baby titans. according to the Collector themselves, yes, but they sent the Collector down specifically to interact the titans. to quote him; "The Archivists, my siblings. "Oh, let's play a game", they said. "Let's play hide-and-seek." / "You go down there and see if the titans wanna play!" / But the Archivists were scared of their power, so one by one, they disappeared, until there was one Titan left."
8. Why did the archivist entrap the owl beast. im not sure what you mean by this considering they did, by turning it into a curse. but the wiki says "It is not known why the Owl Beast was turned into the scroll, but according to the collectors' motto, they seal living beings to preserve them forever."
9. Why did the titan create Jean-luc and the island. to protect his egg, the Collector says so in Episode 3, "He hid his egg from me and trapped me.", and its said in King's backstory episode, "That thing was defending King from us this whole time". it's shown in King's Tide that the symbol carved into the tower at the island was a protection symbol that hid King from the Collector's sight.
10. What happened to papa titan after king heard his voice. It's implied hearing his dad's voice was the last time the Titan was alive, meaning he died somehow shortly after. his exact cause of death is still unknown
Are titans able to transcend life and death, i dont know what you mean by this question
12. Were the titans able to transfer their powers to other living beings when they were alive, theres no canon that i know of saying one way or the other, but i dont think they could. i think the Titan's ability to do that was purely because his soul was stuck in the inbetween dimension.
13. Was the symbol on King’s collar created by an adult titan to protect its younglings or baby titan to play hide and seek with the collector. as i said previously, likely by his father to hide him from the Collector
14. Did Titans purposely hide their corpses from Belos and his followers to protect their inhabitants. i dont know what you mean by this
15. What is hooty. a demon created by the muck of the rotting corpse, according to himself, though considering theres a mini hooty in Papa Titan's eye in the inbetween, he may be some sort of parasite to the Titan's body. maybe he was a natural part of the Titan, who knows. Dana intended to go into Hooty's backstory if there was a full season 3, but alas.
16. Who is the grand Huntsman. Either the Collector or one of the Archivists, its never really stated
17. What happened with the Titan trappers before for the future. i dont know about before For The Future, but Bill and one of the other Titan Trappers are puppeted by The Collector
18. What kind of powers do Titans possess. Sonic scream, unique glyph magic (presuming the Titan had glyphs when he was alive like King does in the finale), fire breath (based on the Collector's painting), and presumably flight, considering they have wings.
19. Is the owl beast a sort of titan. the Collector states their magic doesnt work on Titans, but the Archivists trapped the Owl Beast, so probably not. Though considering the extensive definitions to 'demons' in the Demon Realm, maybe theres several layers of titans. we don't know.
20. How did the collector know about the draining spell, presumably from his siblings, though we dont know for certain. perhaps its an old Archivist sealing trick.
21. Where did the titan trappers get the titan skulls from. according to the wiki, "At San Diego Comic Con 2023, confirmation was given that the specific young titans whose skulls they wore were King's siblings", so. take that heartbreaking info as you wish.
How did the Titan trappers know what Titans look like, they have the skeleton of one hanging in one of their rooms, and they have contact with the Collector or another Archivist, who has seen them. Not to mention they likely have murals of their own depicting titans.
23. What are Galdor stones, a highly powerful magical stone that boosts a witch's (or demon's, presumably) powers. According to Dana Terrace, there were further story plans for the galdorstones which were not realized in the series due to the shortening of the third season. Personally, i think their crystalizations of some part of the Titan's corpse, like a diamond-izing of pure magic or blood.
24. What was the moon mirror that communicated with the collector. if you mean the thing he was trapped in, i have no idea. i presume Dana had plans to explain it, but for now, we only know its a prison for the Collector.
25. Was everything in the owl house from papa Titan’s point of view. thats a very funny thought and im choosing to believe its true.
26. Was eda’s curse destroyed in the fight with Belos, no, why would it be? there's nothing saying either way if it did, but i dont know why it would be, considering that doesnt match anything we've seen of the Curse.
27. Is King able to peek into the in between or was it because of the connection that the Titan trappers set between him and the collector. likely just the connection the Titan Trappers caused, the same way Belos could only see in with the weird tablet thing
28. Are the titans able to Shapeshift. no? again, not sure why they would be able to?
29. Why did eda curse react to the collector but not Lilith’s. I think its because Eda's curse was the one to be captured, and Lillith's is just sort of an offshoot, though its never explained in canon. so, Eda's beast has the memories of the Collector's siblings trapping them, and Lillith's doesn't.
30. Can the realm in between see the past and future. based on what we see, only the present and past, unless the Titan's heightened powers makes him exclusively capable of seeing the past through the cubes. we dont know about any future sight, though that'd make for a cool fanfiction.
Questions i still have for the owl house that will never be answered
Mainly for the collector species and titans
1. What do king’s glyphs look like
2. Why did king grow more fur and seem to grow bigger when he went berserk in watching and dreaming
3. Why did the owl beast grow bigger and have similar eyes to king’s when eda transformed
4. Why do harpy eda and titan Luz have similar eyes
5. What did the archivists do to the baby titans
6. How did the archivists defeat the titans
7. Did the archivists know about the Titans before the collector met the baby titans
8. Why did the archivist entrap the owl beast
9. Why did the titan create Jean-luc and the island
10. What happened to papa titan after king heard his voice
11. Are titans able to transcend life and death
12. Were the titans able to transfer their powers to other living beings when they were alive
13. Was the symbol on King’s collar created by an adult titan to protect its younglings or baby titan to play hide and seek with the collector
14. Did Titans purposely hide their corpses from Belos and his followers to protect their inhabitants
15. What is hooty
16. Who is the grand Huntsman
17. What happened with the Titan trappers before for the future
18. What kind of powers do Titans possess
19. Is the owl beast a sort of titan
20. How did the collector know about the draining spell
21. Where did the titan trappers get the titan skulls from
22. How did the Titan trappers know what Titans look like
23. What are Galdor stones

Talking about my Owl House au because its really cool.
this au has more of the darker "beta" concepts from toh, as well as the characters retaining their "beta" designs. hence the name, betakids.
anyways this is pretty long so uh. yeah.
:readmore:
Luz accidentally wanders into the Boiling Isles at the age of four, and has been living on her own for about ten years. she still has the glyphs, and uses a wooden rod in combat to protect herself. unbeknownst to her, its the staff of a lost palisman, which is why its able to be used to perform magic.
Hunter and Vee ran off from the Emperor's Coven a few years back, and are taking residence at the Owl House [roll credits] with Eda. Hunter doesn't really know he's a grimwalker yet, but he still owns Flapjack as his palisman.
Willow, Gus, and Amity are all training under their respective covenheads, and all have sigils. Amity and Willow have more of a friendly rivalry than in the original show. nothing too bad, just the occasional "see you after i totally NAIL this test!" type comment. They're both trying to be "the best" for different reasons. Amity because she doesn't want to disappoint her parents, and Willow because she wants to be someone people can rely on. Gus, on the other hand just wants people to stop looking down on him so much.
Belos's main goal is different in this AU, as instead of destroying magic, he wants to merge both the demon and human realms knowing it'll cause both of the realms to cease existing [sonic x type bullshit.]. the coven sigils are then used instead to power a giant portal beneath the Isles.
and yes, im aware that he'd need a whole fuckton-billion gallons of titan's blood to power something like that. thats why in this au, the titan kinda chooses who gets to use titan's blood. Eda?? as soon as she needed a place to hide, a "mysterious vein" of the stuff appeared in the Owl House's basement. Belos? barely has any. he never even got enough to make the portal door from the original show in this au.
Lilith is Amity's ex-mentor who "went rogue" and left the emperor's coven about fifteen years ago.
Eda is completely aware of King's heritage as a titan, and is keeping that a secret from King to protect him in case something were to happen.
anyways, the basic main plot of the au starts with Hunter and Vee finding Luz trying to take food scraps from the Emperor's Coven. the two of them take her to Eda, who offers to take Luz in immediately. King takes a few minutes to warm up to the new resident, but eventually does. however, he still retains the "IM THE ALPHA OF THIS HOUSE" mentality, and then Luz says something like "then i guess that makes us the Betas!" again, hence the au name.
anyways i hope yall liked this post and i hope i can post more about this au in the future

ok before i forget and the episode comes out im gonna just write down 4 my own sake what i think is gonna happen on tonights owl house episode (well technically tonights but i think id rather think abt it as tmrws bc it comes out at like 3am so ill watch it in the morning).
anyways most likely it begins like exactly where we left off anddd the collectors new game is this like dream sequence type shit w im assuming either like fucking idk. luzs biggest fears or how the collector views luz. or like both ? idk. but like her biggest fears bc i mean she sees herself as literally as bad as belos so thats im guessing like everyone else also thinks the her being in his clothes type shit. and then also that one scene with her friends all in like their old clothes kinda echoing that one season 1 ep 2 scene. im guessing the reason theyre in each of those clothes is bccc errr. well theyre not from the same time that much is clear.  id like to say theyre from the worst times of their life or whatever but that doesnt make sense 4 gus bc grom wasnt like. bad 4 him ? unless theyre all being forced into kinda roles like luz is too ? but that seems like it only rlly makes sense 4 amity n hunter bc hunters in his golden guard uniform n amitys just in her. Default Boiling Isle clothes ig ? which i GUESS could be like when she was around her mum ??? but then why not go full out and give her the green hair again ???? im just confused abt that part honestly unless it was to do w just significant parts of luzs life but then again why the fuck is gus in his grom outfit. anyways im obsessing 2 much over that one scene. er. ok um. anyways luz does this whole dream sequence thing for someee reason anddd. well belos n raine have their like fight im guessing. maybe bc likeeee idk eda does smth and we get some raeda angst maybe ??? and then bla bla belos possesses the titan oopsie doopsie. wait. wait ni that wouldnt rlly make sense. bc like the titans kinda fucked up. and we saw he couldnt possess grimwalker corpses anymore bc they were all fucked up n rotted. and the titan is likeeee loadsssss older than caleb so that wouldnt make sense. unless its like he can possess the body but cant move it much rlly beyond like environmental horror. like a humphrey omori type deal. except big humphrey is dead. and bones. and fucking hates air conditioning. and is a puritan. anyways errr yeah and thennnn eda n king becomee fuckinnn rabid n shit. king looks much bigger in that one scene tho so maybe he like becomes So Rabid he gets all titany n shit or whatever idfk. errrr. idk what like the hexquad n co would do. bc theres no way toh team would have time to give them all their own dream sequence stuff. and it wouldnt make sense bc the collector only rlly has it out for luz bc hes jealous of her for being besties w king. so like. idk. maybe they just like vibe. or hhave a big heart 2 heart moment. errrr. kindaaa hoping honestly that huntlow doesnt get a big like wow rainbows hearts scene like lumity did because having their sorta quiet understanding of mutual feelings feels more fitting for them yknow. but i wouldnt complain if they got smth big n obvious i just think itd be more fitting if they got smth sorta quiet and subtle. errr and thennnnn err fuckinnn. everyone comes together to save the day and kill belos and let that old man fuckin die already. and thennnn luz decides like fuck it we got a portal who says u cant live in 2 realms at once eda did it why the fuck wont u copy her. anddd they all lived happily ever after the end. oh andddd eda n camila meet n they do NOT have a mum fight because they both LOVE each othe because they both love LUZ and they are both GRATEFUL that the other took CARE of her and the end. oh and hooty becomes door again. the end part 2. and then disney blows up and everyone cheers and the end part 3.

Differentiating Eren and Shitz
Hi so this is a post or whatever it is on why Eren and Shitz are not alike, never have, never fucking will
If any of you find yourself disagreeing or getting offended the deeper you read into these i suggest you back off and never look back thanks
Where did this came up with?
As we all know Chapter 139 definitely started this. Because of the birth of that chapter many shit came and some were good but mostly bad, because of Mikasa paralleling Ymir i guess, there came the Eren paralleling Shitz. anyways the reasons
1. Eren wanted to destroy the Titans
- Idk if people read chapter 122 or watched episode 80 but Shitz: Even after I die...my Eldians will rule the great lands of this world with their enormity. And my Titans shall reign forever and ever.
He wanted them to rule till the end of the Earth because of his revolting desires
- Eren on the other hand: I'll kill them all! I'll wipe every last one of them off this Earth!
Destroying the Titans not the beings but the power of it as the series progressed is one of its main topics
Eren hated the Titans, yes his hate did mellow for it as he learned the truth but he hated the idea of someone turning into a mindless eating giants
2. Shitz abused Ymir
-We all know what happened, it's so disgusting but people forget about this all to enforce the Mikasa-Ymir parallel to make 139 make sense, so yeah Shitz abused Ymir, had her hunted and possibly have her eyes poked, r/ped her, used her to kill people, dehumanized her into nothing but a slave, to the very end, showed no absolute appreciation for Ymir because he's nothing but a fucking slimy selfish disgusting son of a bitch moronic asshole who started this fucking mess and deserves nothing but pain because i have never ever seen a character do revolting things to a goddamn child and lose all morals all for the sake of his humongous ego that Ymir had to inflate her goddamn life, it wasn't even his accomplishments
gosh imagine my reaction when i read that seed part; but she's a kid!
- Eren treated her like any decent human being which isn't a lot but he did, Idk it seems like Eren is manipulating Ymir to me, How? How is telling someone you have a choice manipulating? To choose? That everything is in your fucking control? Eren gave her a choice to lend her power to him or not.
3. Eren would never want his friends or anyone for that matter to chew his spine
- See Shitz wanted to pass that power to his children. IDK maybe he didn't know that their was a limit, uh idk have you checked the part where he said hey kids, have children and have them eat your spine like???
-Are we forgetting Eren stood up for Historia and again told his friends to like hey dont, you dont have to make sacrifices for this titan bullshit because it sucks eating someone you love quite literally and also bcus you ppl are special to me and should live deserved long lives and to
Eren experienced the suffering that Fritz never got to, thought i wish he did because fuck that loser
4. Horrific acts for different reasons
-Yeah Shitz was all imma conquer everything bcus apparently this empire consisting of like idk 1 million people and shit isnt enough for me, why dont we go and kill people bcus idk its fun, i want more ppl to kneel before me and tell me im a great king despite r/ping a literal child and also bcus im just really bored
-Eren did the Rumbling not because he wanted to conquer the goddamn world but to free his people and friends and because the rest of the world left him no choice [This doesn't excuse his actions tho, killing is still killing]
5. "All i ever wanted to do was do right things, I never wanted to be the king"
- First of all I love this line so much, because Eren never wanted those kind of shit
And I have two interpretations for this line
- This may refer to the fact that Eren has to act like ugh Shitz for the whole thing to work, yk setting Ymir free thru mikasa yeah
- And like i said Eren never wanted to any of this shit, a hero yeah but not a king
6. Eren saved Mikasa
- So yeah, Shitz made Ymir a slave, Eren saved Mikasa from being a sex slave, completely different things, get me?
7. Eren is hot, has great qualities, has lots of stans, and Shitz is not and never will be the only thing he's attracting is all of the morons of this Earth and dirt there
Eren is also the protag and hes not yey!
In conclusion Eren and Shitz are not the same, fuck you, whoever thought of this, you must be fucked in the head and I can only wish for you to seek help like right away
if you guys have anything else to add in here go ahead just make them make sense, also sorry for this being sloppy i have other things to prioritize about

Why did Ymir choose Mikasa?
"Okay, maybe im just dumb and didnt get something but couldn't ymir see the end result of EM's suffering via paths, so she already knew the lesson mikasa learnt anyway?? bc it means that this all was just completely unnecessary and eren could live... is it really a plot hole or did i not understand something?"
I've received a question and would like to answer it in a separate post rather than an ask. I have been keeping this draft since ch.137, but never really could post it, because I didn't think that my points will be concrete enough. But thanks to ch.138 and 139, I finally can touch this topic again!
So...starting with Ymir. We all know that she was a slave in king Fritz’s tribe. Someday she freed pigs and the king freed” her, but hunters ended up chasing her in the forest. She was hurt and somehow fell into a pound inside of the tree then our infamous hallucigenia attached to her spine, and she became the first titan shifter. After king discovered her power, he used her to enlarger his tribe and eventually, the tribe became an empire. King Fritz let her have his kids and continued to exploit her.
At the very end she died in pain, because she wanted to protect the king. This moment for some people was confusing, but we all supposed that it was out of plain obedience. Nothing more and nothing less.
Tumblr media
Before, in ch.137 Zeke said that Ymir has been obeying Karl Fritz for 2000 years, but what was the reason? Zeke said that Ymir wanted to feel connected, because she was attached to the world she left behind. But...Zeke couldn't understand her. He spent a lot of time in paths trying to find the reason why she is so obedient, but still couldn't find the exact reason besides the attachment. He also mentioned that Eren could understand her, while he didn't.
Tumblr media
As Eren said in ch.139 during his talk with Armin...Ymir was in "love" with the king. He'd burned her hometown, killed her parents, cut off her tongue, let her wander in the forest, exploited her powers, let her breed children and at the end let her daughters eat their mother's flesh...But she still "loved" him and that's why paths were created. Ymir didn't want to die nor live. She wanted to feel and see love, and be a part of it, but she couldn't get it when she was alive.
Then...how did Ymir still love him? It was the Stockholm syndrome. She simply felt attached to Karl Fritz, because he gave her a relatively better life. Yes, the king still saw her as a slave. She wasn't his wife or at least a person he cared about. He didn't see her as someone equal to him. She was just a weapon, breeding machine and slave, but definitely not his love.
Ymir knew that her "love" was wrong, but she couldn't escape it, because she trapped herself in the endless cycle of hatred and agony that didn't even start because of her, but because of the person she "loved". Eventually, her titan powers were passed down from generation to generation and she got nothing to do, but to obey the king's blood. She wanted to escape. She wanted someone to free her.
So...Why did he choose Mikasa for that role? As many people pointed out, Mikasa and Ymir have some similarities. Both had powers, they stayed loyal and were selfless, but...Mikasa had what Ymir didn't. Free will, freedom and love.
Mikasa stayed loyal to Eren not because she obeyed him and he forced her to do so, but simply because she loved him and it was her choice. Ymir chose Mikasa, because she is the freest person. Mikasa is an Ackerman, the bloodline that rebelled against king's ideology, and the descendant of Hizuru's shogun's clan, which had nothing to do with Ymir herself. Everything Mikasa did was purely out of her conscience and the right to choose. In this case, Eren was the one who has served as the pathway for Mikasa to free Ymir.
Ymir could see Eren and Mikasa, and I think she and Eren himself were the ones who told child Eren where Mikasa is back when she got kidnapped. Because, otherwise, Ymir wouldn't be freed and the cycle would continue to exist. But she couldn't fully free herself, because hallucigenia still existed and as we saw in ch.138, it has had mind on its own and probably needed a "host" to exist, which was Ymir and her subjects. It desperately wanted to live, but of course, since Ymir was its main "host" and got freed, it also stopped to exist.
Tumblr media
Aside from this, Ymir wanted to witness the most unconditional love that could exist. Both Eren and Mikasa did a very noble act of sacrificing their love for the sake of change and I think this is what Ymir wanted to see.
Yes, from Ymir's side, it was very selfish and to be honest, I was also a bit disappointed to see her vanishing like this, but I guess, that was the fault from my side, because Ymir has never actively participated in the whole process of rumbling. All what she did was observing and guiding Armin and Mikasa to her. After all...everything she wanted was a selfish wish to be free and see love. It was never about repaying the debt or helping someone. Probably...that's why she needed these three selfless people to free her.

something i just realized thats yet another point to the whole "sonau did all the things before the shiekah did, actually" weirdness is the helmets of those unnamed and utter voids of personality ancient sages- their weird ass sonau helmets are very clearly meant to be the titans heads but "sonau" so i guess the shiekah didnt even come up with that design on their own either, isnt that totally coolio (why are they wearing that sonau stuff anyway ... doesnt that too come off as weird?? putting face masks made of the design from the dominant culture of the king ruling everything over the other races leaders heads and not even giving them a name .. let alone a pesonality, or anything to say but the literal same exposition dump 4 times???)
also, though it is a smaller point, the sonau being supposedly "from the sky" also sitts wrong with me bc we know the shiekah had a long history of admiring the stars and trying to read from them etc, which combined with everything else just kinda adds to the weird feeling of the sonau having hijacked all of the shiekahs things in retrospect despite the shiekah as a whole having a wayyy longer history (and no i dont find it inspiring or like ... cool that the sonau are bascially the origins of everything the botw shiekah ever did, it feels not just disrespectful but like it cheapens the shiekah as a whole since now they really had never an original idea i guess lol - i swear if they meant that random "mechanical beast" that zelda apparently rode when she was trapped back in time as some sort of precursor to the eponator zero from botws dlc im gonna scream-)
additionally, the sonau being from the sky is still kinda weird to me given their other heavily used design elements are clearly based on undergound stuff, like the lightferns being literally every lamp bc i guess they knew only one kind of lamp to build, one that only gives off an eery cold slightly greenish light, (not really working in favor with that also cold grey and rather featureless blocky design of all the totk sonau structures) and the design of the constructs looking alot like mini/gigamas, i dont know if i want to believe they invented all of their stuff that isnt grey blocky rock after coming to the surface and mining the underground barren .. given how spread out their mines are they must have had a pretty strong grip on hyrule before they all went extinct from *gestures vaguely* -i think the english version puts it more vaguely but the german text def implies they all died 'somehow'- which is weird and underexplored as well-
all of this really adds to the sonau just ... not fitting into anything, not the world, the history, the design, the story, and their presentation as those only good goodestes of peoples makes me even more sus of them- i know im not the only one who was convinced that rauru was running some sort of scheme behind your back or something like that for almost the entire game (also to the person that added to this post saying that the same rauru statue being over and over at the end of the shrines made him feel even more like an "divine king" kind of dictator vibe, yes i feel like that too) and yet he is only ever presented as the oh so kind and good and perfect king by divine right, with his only mistake ever being not stabbing ganondorf right away i guess, but its fine, he died to seal gan after all uwu, what a noble guy, uwu
*sigh*
... man this entire game is such a mess once you start to think about it even a little, tbh i think zelda fans should be kinda offended this is what we are offered for an even higher price than botw after all this time ... we deserve better man :(
sorry, long post, got totk thoughts ...again
first botw vs totk shrines aesthetic and meaning; then shiekah symbolism thats overtaken by sonau
botw vs totk shrines (not in quality of puzzle since i talked about that a little before, but as in aesthetic, meaning etc)
something that worked well with shiekah shrines in botw was that these things were built SPECIFICALLY to make a future link stronger, theres that denialability to it that kinda make sense when you think about it, they are small challenges for the future hero to test and make them stronger, they are spread around the world bc you wouldnt want to hide some major source of power in one place, a monk literally sacrifices their life to enable you to gain more power their dead body waiting for you at the end (neat!!), they are each a little different in pose and clothing and im pretty sure its implied each monk made the puzzle for their shrine themselves; and the ones that rely on something happening in the world first can also be explained by their ability to see the future, the shrines and towers all rise up from the ground, which gives them that believable sense of they have been down there all this time and been activated via the net connecting them all to signal it is time- their design is also just .. nice? its got a nice contrast of the dark and the ligher brown with eye catching light from orange to blue to pink telling you in what states of operation it is (idle, working/done, corrupted) and their shape design is a very striking mix of bigger emptier spots of dark with the lighter browns wiggly lines coming in in nicely paced patches and the strong lights poking through giving you a nice soemthign for your eyes to look at (their tech is also a mix of magic stuff AND mechanism, they still look and work kinda magical but still have cogs and springs and looks like they are actual maschines put together)
totk shrines have no real denialability to why they are the way they are, its pretty clear that they are there for game reasons (and to copy botw i guess?) with no proper thought given to it (or failed to convey); they are already there when zelda does her time travel bs, and i heard (havent seen it myself? or dont remember) that the sonau shrines were built to .. keep monsters at bay? ok, im not even gonna question that part ( ... but i am .. i guess lightmagic wahtever dont think about it) so .... why do they contain a puzzle at all? its not to prevent monsters from entering since you need raurus hand to activate it (in botw you need the shiekah stone to do so which isnt really found besides yours either but ... their purpose is to test and empower you anyway .. and pehaps in a wider range to strengthen the bond with other folks when you have to work with them to get to it) then they werent present in botw so they must have ... somehow appeared out of nowhere? their connection to the lightroots might have been an attempt to try and make them feel more connected but that didnt work either imo, the shrines on the surface mirror lightroots in the underground, implying they are connected somehow, i at first thought like the lightroot is their root and the shrine is the flowerbud, but its very clearly just some ...magic rock crystal with stuff built around it including a teleportation thing thats pretty much copied from the shiekah ones (??) and you somehow ... enter magic dimension (which is .. fine, but i liked how in botws it was an elevator going down, making it feel like you are put into a physical room underground) but then there .... are also shrines in the sky ... that have no lighroot to connect to .. (i guess .. magic light wahtever dont htinkaboutit) so that part kinda falls flat- and the bring-crystal-to-shrine-spot (uhg) also debunk that thought since its a (tasty looking) green crystal that just kinda warps into a big grey rock ... for some reason, at their end is always the same colorless statue of da kind and his fridge wife (not her build) they are also missing that denialability that they were built for link specifically, sonau cant see into the future so (unless they yoinked that from the shiekah too??).. how does .. anything of that work then? especially with the crystal ones given that they are always a blessing shrine sicne bringing the crystal to its spot is counted as the puzzle but they couldnt have known that thats where it would end up at (and then ...how and why would you put a shrine thing into a crystal thing and disconnect it and throw it whereever when it manifests somehow again thousands years later- i need to stop thinking about it)- then their aesthetic is white green and gold(ish) which is a nice color combination in itself tho its lacking that neat status singaling and the eye catching contrast with their glow, the green glowy bits dont stand out as much, their shape design i dislike alot since it ... looks kinda unfinished and in a strange disconnect to their tech; buildings and statues are very blocky solid colors with the occasional rune or dragon carved into, which is also very blocky and one colored, their shapes are pretty uniform in a blocky way, theres not alot of shape contrast anywhere besides basic smaller block and bigger block, the most interesting looking ones are the ... outer walls of the shrines with their scaled look and the ground with the circle patterns; their tech and clothing is in a strange disconnect, its got a gree-tealish scale like texture in anything solid, be it tech or ornaments, it also features alot more gold and also brown stones that look rather untouched- now, for clothing, that is fine, the shiekah didnt dress like their tech either (.... mostly, ancient armor does exist) BUT the constructs and tech also have that more natural look to them
the fact that the same blocky statue waits for you at the end alsso removes not just coolness but also personality, instead of individual monks that gave their life for you and you setting them free once you take their spirit orb its the same representation of the holy king and queen giving you some light juice to cure you more of miasma .. which doesnt actually matter sicne you get your normal arm back no matter how many light juices you got at the end anyway (their "tech" also just looks less like actual maschinery and much more like .. magic tm, the constructs have nothing maschinery like about them and are just floating rings animated by green magic wiggle lines and function almost the same as literal bokblins with the added thing of being able to fuse/use tech.. the empty spot of a threat like the guardians is very prominent once you realize that the constructs are largely just like a reskinned bokblin, and the miasma hands, while neat, are more like a surprise jumpscare and less like a looming threat and are also not taken to their full potential)
theres also a disconnect between the sonau as we are introduced to them in totk and the actual sonau ruins from botw, which share a common dragon motive but have a much more .. MORE aesthetic, theres even color present you dont see anywhere in totk sonau stuff, like the red paint- you are given the explanation that those are ruins built by hylians as a monument to the sonau but i think it falls very flat sicne its clear it wasnt designed to be meant like that in botw and also looks much more withered than the totk sonau ruins which rarely look withered at all despite being even older than the botw ruins; im very sure its jsut an excuse bc their design for totk sonaus got changed ... for some reason, just like their "barbaric" origins in the phirone/faron region
shiekah symbolism and more kinda overtaken by sonau
so, soemthing i really dont like about the sonau as well is that theres quite a bit that they take from shiekah and kinda... present it as being the origin of it, actually;
we all know the very dominant symbol of the eye/third eye with three eyelashes and a tear drop for the shiekah which is established in the very first chronological game (skyward sword) but also featured in alot of other zeldas, it symbolizing their connection to hylia and their foresight (perhaps even more? i dont know everything); now we got the sonau who ... have a LITERAL third eye (and it doesnt even look special ..) that has three lashes and they paint tear drops under their eyes... (which has only the connection to .. the tears zelda sheds when shes a dragon, no other character does so at any other point, lol?) it makes it seem like we are to assume that the shiekah got their symbols from the sonau, actually, just like their tech wasnt their invention either but the sonaus, actually, who are new to the franchise and have no other connection to anything of past games, unlike the shiekah who have been there from the start really
then theres the tech, the ancient shiekah had very advanced, mystical tech in botws ancient history and now the even MORE ancient sonau had even MORE advanced tech way before them in totks lore which goes beyond even botws ancient history
im not saying symbols gotta be exclusive to one group of people but .. it holds alot of significance carried from the older games too, it feels strange for them to highjack the shiekah symbols and achievements WITHIN the two games that are supposedly directly connected in timeline and world (while also pairing them with those supposedly aniecnt hylian feather crowns and belly out look ... which, im no expert but i raise my eyebrow at that) together with the fact that nearly any and all traces of shiekah tech, except for the little needed parts that are never called that though and are just footnotes .. if anything, are precisely erased feels .... off
another long ramble about my thougths about totk, some people graciously call them analysis but i wouldnt say its that, its jsut a largely incoherent waterfall of words that would have spun around in my head for weeks if i didnt write them out and i keep coming up with more thoughts bc im thinking about the rewrite and well ...
im gonna have art soon again ... promise <(_ _)>
