youve done such a great job with their voices. especially violet who people seem to get wrong a lot of the time its been refreshing. their early convo outside the store made me go "👀 this person gets it". people overlook her subtle softness a lot and make her too gruff or too cocky (or the rare making her too soft) but i think you struck a really good balance. her and clem have so much chemistry in their scenes its like palpable

the slow burn is KILLING ME but also really well paced so far. little morsels here and there keeping me going. i like that you made clem softer too as i also think a modern clem would be different than canon clem. but she still feels like CLEM. her relationship with aj is adorable. its nice seeing clem aj and lee being all domestic in general. LOVE all the mari attention (and gabe slander HSDJKSD no hate but desperate gabe feels Right) i like the way the garcias are integrated in general. the vibe among the ericson group feels good too

cant speak too much on the clemviminnie angle yet (other than 😈) so far minnie has been pissed off for (seemingly) no reason so im looking forward to seeing where it goes/how it develops 😏 and eventually checking out the partner fics

since you've read a lot of zs fics, could you recommend some? like specifically ones that you think are underrated 👀

hi! this ask is so exciting to me, thanks for sending! i’m fairly new to the zs fandom but been reading fics for about 8-9 months straight so yes haha you could say i’ve read a lot 😆

to preface my recos, i like zsz so i dont mind anything 💚💛

anyway, here’s my list of underrated fics (underrated for me is like under 500 kudos and please mind the tags on some of them):

1. him by lostmathmajor - one of my first parenting au fics and i think about this fic from time to time. it's incomplete sadly but i'll wait for the author to update forever! what i love about it is how you feel zoro's desperation and pining for sanji through his actions and it extends to sanji's daughter. ugh you just have to read it.

2. at last, i see the light by anxietyismymoralcompass - tangled au! this was such a good adaptation of my fave disney princess movie <3

3. never grow a wishbone by peacesigndisasterbi - set post laughtale where sanji and zoro reaches their goal. i loved the angst and yearning in this plus the fantasy plot was so good too!

4. a sip of sunlight by greenyogurtelephant - such a cute little oneshot. very summer-y, i read it recently when i was in the mood for something bright. i imagined like an italian countryside or some wine country areas in northern california.

5. stuck in your throat by fruityumbrella - val writes one of the best dialogues ugghhhh read everything they write!!!

6. let's go to bed by fantasmagorial - so soft and fluffy....very comforting. i read this when i was having trouble sleeping lmao

7. i got this feeling by harubo - i know, this author is very popular in the fandom but this one fic of theirs is not as popular i think. i really loved it cause i have a pet as well and used to run an IG page for him so i related hahah

8. tin lover by riotoftime & aevv - ongoing, im kinda shy to add this but i am hooked....the writing style and dialogue are so good and distinct because each character is developed/written by different authors!

i unfortunately don't have an ao3 account so i've lost most of the fics i've read but i've learned to keep track now! if anybody has any underrated fic recs as well, feel free to add!

for Comment on a WIP square i went with: Wildfire by Neostone138, a single chapter WIP that has some demon trickster shane and a whole lot of intrigue! while only one chapter i am captivated by the characterization and the ending was my favorite

for Newest Fic in a Chosen Tag: Tasty Snack by Impala_Chick this was a fic i didn't expect to like so much but god it was so funny. that crack tag really delivered! i'm personally weirdly picky with outsider POV, so i was surprised with how much i liked it in this fic! it's a testament to how good the writing is tho im not surprised bc i do love Impala_Chick's works 🫶🏽 also the ryan thirst is real in this fic as it literally should be

for Alternate Universe: estranged producer by Anonymous which was super hot and very fun! sugar baby ryan and daddy shane and you bet your ass ryan was sugaring! i hope this author continues to share their lovely ideas with us because this was BRILLIANT

for the square Trifecta: Kudos Comment, & Bookmark: Horizon Lines by WhoopsOK, listen. guys listen. this fic is SO FUCKING GOOD🙏🏽 it's full of absolutely delicious tension in the most shane madej repression way and then it DELIVERS on it so good. it's absolutely 🔥🔥🔥 AND it's demonic! shane & angel! ryan. what more could u want! i cannot recommend this fic enough

Re-read A Fave Fic And Comment (Again): I told my demons about you (they told me to get therapy) by Ren_Saxon, WAAAA i love love love this fic! the whole collection is filled with amazing fics but i love this one bc it just... so chaotic! i love down bad ryan and he's losing it over it and GOOD FOR HIM. it's just so funny ren ilysm ur so good at writing baby 🫶🏽

For A Fic With Less Comments Than Kudos I chose: Please Stay by Fluffycorn_njst which is a beautiful drabble about friends with benefits turned lovers shyan! absolutely loved the desperation u could feel from both of them even in so few words. kudos!

For Comment on a fic posted at least 3 years ago I went with : Call Me Yours by deanwinchesterissaved, a hot little fic with possessive shane and takes place during t5b! what's there not to love

For Keyboard Smash with a Lot of Emojis: bisexual panic by Future_Boy. I love these one shot type stories for when I'm at work during a slow day, this one was very cute and had some interesting shane internal monologue which I found very fun!

For Spooky or Mystical Vibes: mirror on the wall by tasty_little_snack, OOO what a heart wrenching little fic. the ending killed me, i loved it!

Fic with Rare Pair: Gonna Lose It by Anotherlostblogger, CURLY FIC CURLY FIC CURLY FIC ‼️‼️‼️ guys i love curly/ryan so much and there's SO LITTLE of it imma cry. this fic is so good it's a college au with curly/shane/ryan and ITS SO HOT AND SWEET AND DELICIOUS! gotta be one of my favs on this list don't tell 🤭

What was your main inspiration for starting Dayshift? Has it gone the way you expected or has it changed courses since writing it?

starting dayshift... i remember re-reading solar lunacy like eight times (mind you, it was still updating then) and thinking MAN. THIS Y/N IS DENSE AS HELL. i got desperate for a fic that had the tone i wanted: something a little more mature than what the ao3 tag was full of, but still with the undertone of 'this characters a mess and doesnt want help'. specifically, i started writing dayshift for ME because *I* wanted to read about someone like me.

(im so happy that its gotten attention. i dont really set out to be popular anymore like i did a few years ago, but hitting that 'sort by kudos' button and seeing dayshift around the first few pages is so)

ANYWAY. ive had mostly the same plan this whole time! with a few flubbed details. i know the main events, and i know the ending, and i can PROMISE that i am a firm believer in hope love light and everything working out in the end. thats been the goal with every chapter.

the details i DIDNT expect that somehow manifested somewhere between brain and keyboard: - Vanessa being friends with You - The firm inclusion of the balloon boy arcade cabinet and everything that comes with it (that ones getting SO MANY headcanons attached) - The mysterious USB stick - LIVING LEGEND RILEY GREENE - I didnt have any huge plans for the daycare kids but now they have names and backstories so theyre included - The jazzy bit of childhood trauma i give all my favorite ocs. sorry viper. - I'm adding another in the newest chapter but it's in the process of being written, unfortunately - And another that select few people know but is complete spoilers and is only revealed in the endgame chapters (as in, the in-game night) (we are sooooo in the building for FNAF:SB you have no idea)

Just from being here, from the anticipation of knowing his role. From the uncertainty of sitting there, waiting." im sobbign <3

"Mouth open and sucking in air, trying his best to keep quiet, Lance feels both compressed and torn apart by the intensity of Fernando’s attention, redirected. He’s being talked about, but not talked to. Praised but not acknowledged. Lifted up high and pushed down hard." such a waaay with words!!!! i am very extremely enamoured.

the push and pull here is perfect: bratty lance (<3) trying to elicit a reaction, nando willing to indulge despite his discipline (he's actually so into it.....it's all a game for him.......uuuueegeghheheu.....) the way tension is built and released is so so masterful and a delight from start to finish :)

He’d heard all of the rumours about the way Fernando operated in Formula One, how ruthless he was, how he terrorised his teammates, how he would grind you down until you doubted your own abilities. Lance knew he didn’t need that. But he also knew he didn’t have a choice either, Fernando was coming to Aston Martin whether he liked it or not.

nando as an exhibitionist is...something. how he draws lance in to do the most brazen things, how lance is powerless to resist, is such a tantalising prospect. lawrence's obliviousness makes me want to shake my head patronisingly ("Lawrence agreed, feeling grateful he had another driver pairing that were getting along." ??????? ?????) this fic really shines because of all the details (sweater paws?? hand on nape??? the actual db12 feature???) the "canon compliance" makes your concept so true to life and now i can't unsee it.

the thing that stayed with me was the image of nando bent over the car. it still makes me lose my shit to think about.

Aston Martin wasn’t the type of team that could hire a double world champion. “Michael Schumacher won in 2005,” he said, trying to project more confidence than he felt. “Nice try.”

the voicing is nailed doWN to a tee and i am thriving. there is one very interesting roscoe related comparison in there that i will not be forgetting any time soon. this ticks all the boxes for me - backstory, characterisation, humour, there is even Plot !!

also love the offhand mention of glance.....they could have been together in another universe..... "Everyone was short except for George Russell, who was both tall and fast. Why couldn’t his father have invested in Mercedes instead?"

this author brings so much delight and depth to every single one of the pairings she writes about, and i will not be forgetting about this any time soon.

ehhh sometimes i do most times i dont, if a commenter asks a question i definitely will but i have chronic "read the notif and forget to say anything until like 5 years later" syndrome. i do read them all and try to give shoutouts in the longfic a/ns tho

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

oh man that's tough, i dont usually go for angsty endings cause i have So Much Depression to begin with but. probably gonna have to say All We Can Do (mass effect, sparatus/oc), specifically because there really isn't an ending, there's no resolution. the fic focuses on the pain and terror ierian and teia are struggling with watching their new baby fight for her life in the hospital, and we end still there. callie doesn't get better by the end, eri and teia just have to sit in that limbo. i put it in my author's note that cal survives and grows up happy and healthy, but at the point of the ending, the pov characters dont know that and the audience just has to sit there with the ache.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

alright that's harder cause i love me a good happy and/or relieved ending. let's say At the End of the Rainbow (no-reapers desabrudas post-shanxi) cause it's the first one i found while scrolling that definitely i would call a happy positive hopeful ending

Do you write crossovers?

nahhh, ill consider them but ive never written one. m.e. x stellaris tempts me tho

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

people have gotten real mad at exdiff for having a nonbinary protagonist and broken mirror in particular for having a muslim woman who wears hijab in it

also some dude willfully misinterpreted everything i put in serpents in the garden (my m.e. big bang fic, oooh you wanna go read my xenopolitics nonsense so bad) and that upset me pretty bad (the comment is deleted but i still have the screenshot somewhere, basically criticized my entire plot and analysis because he just desperately wanted the councilors to be dumb and incompetent that bad and couldn't accept that i was positing otherwise)

Do you write smut?

not really, at least nothing published. i have a few M-rated fics but i dont go into too much detail it's all non-graphic

yeah the original rise & reign and now the rewrite (i swear im still working on it adhd just went wheeee) are co-written with my partner @lightspeedpowerpunk aka xMidnightSun :3

you can't ask me that. if i must choose then probably a four-way tie between desabrudas kryterius barrix and spirian (sparky and my oc for his wife) but are we really surprised by that answer

What's a WIP that you want to finish don't think you ever will?

desperately want to finish uneasy lies the head aka bad end cause its soooo juicy but. dont like rehashing canon events. could just skip ahead to the next fic where it gets Juicy and we really get into the canon deviation but mltdog is necessary to actually set it up

note: i am notoriously stubborn and am hoping that answering bad end here will give me motivation to continue if only because my brain loves proving itself a liar

character work and worldbuilding, also i'm told my banter and dialogue are really good

TRANSITIONS MY OLD NEMESIS. also i personally hate writing action sequences and struggle a lot with them, i get comments saying i write them well but personally idk how since my experience writing them is "i hate this i hate this just get it over with"

Serpents in the Garden - pre-ME1 xenopolitics feat. my pet conspiracy theory. this was my mebb 2023 fic and im still so chuffed with it there's a lot of small notes in this and i still get periodic notes telling me i got people to see the councilors in a whole new light

Prince With a Thousand Enemies - cnclr sparatus backstory, from a small anxious kid growing up in the far north to a baby law student trying to rebuild his self-confidence after abuse to a demigod. if you ever see me say "shayustu in the shatha's den" i'm referencing this. inspired by that one quote from watership down

To Catch a Rabbit - the kryterius murder mystery that started a whole series. saren and nihlus get sent to babysit an interspecies conference and think they're getting a free vacation but oops there's a locked-room murder to solve, and also anita goyle and fedorian and the lady sparatus and macen barro and some others are here. and they both have huge stupid crushes on each other but think it's unrequited because they're so so smart in literally every department except this one.

honorable mention goes to Blood In the Water, because i really did pop off with that one but it's 2nd in a series. i think you could read it without the context of broken mirror but it does have spoilers for that

also, the fucking handcuffs??? And the COLLAR??? And how he is visibly disappointed he is that he can’t see the collar??

And then, of course, is the cord. I gotta say, pulling on the cord is possibly one of THE Most attractive things to do to a phone guy, in my opinion. Like. Hhhhhhhhh you wrote it really well. Him melting into a flustered whining puddle from just a few tugs on his cord? Incredible. Beautiful.

And then. I’m just gonna say it. The paragraph where you described his T-dick was really like- I don’t wanna say hot, that feels like underselling it. It was almost prose-like? Like, yes, hot. But also- almost beautiful? I don’t even know how to describe it, it felt like a poem of some sort…
