my stp brainrot has combined with my casual interest in historical dress youtube and I decided to draw the Princess in a more historically-inspired outfit than her original design
If anyone's curious, her outfit/hairstyle is supposed to be from around 1828 ("around" bc my main reference/inspiration was definitely from 1828 but I had so many tabs open with different inspo images from nearby years and I don't remember which ones I actually used. also did you know it is surprisingly difficult to search for royal portraiture from a specific year) because based on some cursory googling, it seemed a lot of the elements of her canon base dress (off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline, poofy sleeves, straight waistline around the natural waist, skirt that isn't super full/poofy) seemed historically plausible for that time period
I also drew her hair in a more historically-accurate style for the period (but don't ask me exactly what's going on there because I'm not entirely sure myself) but I kept her canon tiara because it seemed plausible enough. anyway this was really fun to do!!!
#i had to stop myself from calling this a ''historically accurate Princess'' or whatever#bc shes not supposed to be from any point in history shes just like. the Idea of a Princess#also idk how accurate i actually am#im certainly no expert!#i just think historical clothing is neat :)#i couldve gone for something more medieval since the concept of ''fairy tale princess'' is very ''medieval-as-filtered-through-victorian''#but i just. didnt wanna do that. so its 1820s/30s#slay the princess#slay the princess fanart#stp princess#scribblebard#also if anyone looking at this doesnt know slay the princess:#a) you should really play slay the princess its a good game#b) i did not choose the big silly anime eyes she just looks like that#and i wanted to draw her as close to her canon appearance (or. *a* canon appearance??) as possible aside from the deliberate changes i made#i was feeling bummed that this wasnt getting any notes but then i realized i saved it as a draft instead of posting lol

ppl saying they look to my comics for inspiration and pointers on how to format things is WILDDDD to me (and delightful don't get me wrong!! i am overjoyed) because like. none of you are privvy to the absolute WAHHH I DONT WANNNAAA bitchfits i was *CONSISTANTLY* throwing every time i forced myself to make a comic before i got into isat. like no joke. i considered comics such a fucking difficult medium they always drained my drawing energy so hard because they always felt like they took sooo long and had so many moving parts and were so much harder than storyboards (WHICH I ALREADY STRUGGLED WITH) because you had to account for panel shape and speech bubbles and-- like you get it. but genuinely for real. the sheer amount that i complained whenever i clawed my way through drawing a comic (which thus! was not very fucking much!!) compounded by the fact that i *genuinely have trouble reading comics*. as in, i really struggle to parse the flow of contiguous movement or action between panels (possibly connected to the fact ive got mad aphantasia?) of even really well done best-of-the-best professional comics...
... BUT. basically. what im trying to get at is. if you wanna learn to draw comics, evidently you super can?! I genuinely *didnt* draw comics before drawing isat fanart! I have no idea what it was about ISAT fanart that made it finally click for me? (I think it was... not having to think about colour? Removing a step from the process really helped. Plus, it being fanwork meant I could just start en-medias-res and not have to think about setup... Trying to cram too much explanation and setup into my oc stuff was always a big hurdle too...)
I find them fast to do now! and damn if i dont value speed in art (<- impatient little fucker). its still going slowly on my oc comics.. mostly due to the colour again, i think. but it's not extremely, ecruciatingly difficult anymore. is what im saying. and im genuinely baffled by it every time i put pen to page. its fucked up. did you guys know that practice makes things easier? . fucking perverted if you ask me.
As for looking at other people's things for inspiration. if you want to know where I was looking when I was piecing together the first couple fancomics I did for ISAT i want to specifically point at . well besides everything rebecca sugar has ever done (for hands and facial expressions *especially*), the main person i really dug into the work of was Leo Fox (Website link). I feel like i wanna point people to the source of a lot of the inspiration for my more off-kilter panel choices so you all can get the full experience rather than through my regurgitated mimesis. I'm now at the point where i can wing panel layout so i wasn't in there for longgg but. everyone go add it to your knowledge banks as for SUBJECT MATTER aka why i am i so deranged. those are squarely the 2019 postcanon homestuck golden era bleeding through my CLENCHED BITTEN DOWN JAW. A BULL TERRIER ON YOUR BRACHIAL ARTERY. namely that @/floralmarsupial and @/tomatograter's works (no i am not tagging them . im shy) are things i go back to frequently and floralmarsupials pure black/white inktober comics were *especially* an inspiration. if you've been following me a few months you may remember me reblogging a bunch of their stuff from 2019~2021 for seemingly no reason. this was why. The narratively divorced reality of jade strider & Liminal Space are big in my mind here. I balk to call myself anywhere near as good as these but these are what i'm aiming for, tonally and quality-ways with it. also detective pony but ive mentioned that already and thats farrrr too inside baseball for this post.
BUT YEAH TL;DR: I DIDNT DRAW LIKE ANY COMICS UNTIL UHHHH LIKE, WHAT, LIKE 8 MONTHS AGO? JESUS. ANYWAY. THIS MEANS YOU 🫵🫵🫵 CAN DO IT TOO. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. DATTEBAYO!!!!
#if you feel vagueblogged by this post: HI!!! sorry i dont mean to scare you i just . need to hand you and others some resources.#I CANNOT LET YOU LIVE OFF OF MY REGURGITATED COPIES OF THE ARTISTS IM INSPIRED BY?? I NEED YOU TO SEE THE SOURCE OK????#i also have read a lot of idw sonic over the last year or three and thats also informed my style but less so than the homestuck stuff#and ranchuppi is another tumblr user (and homestuck...) that was a major influence re: how i draw expressions. i am very very particular#about facial expressions. fuck everything else in a drawing. i just need to get the emotions right.#also if this post inspires you to read homestuck: GOOD. also i can hand you resources and pointers for that. don't read it on the website.#there's better ways. and DONT FUCKING TOUCH HOMESTUCK.NET that place is . ugghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh <- bearer of the curse#im certainly not the worlds foremost expert on homestuck i just can't have another era of blonde white daves. theyre on my tumblr fyp#i dont want them there. why are they blonde. help me. help me god. its so dark in here#lucabytetalks#art advice#I GUESSSS????#long post

(For the game) I think the doctor should have more diverse companions. Give them more non human alien companions! Give them a companion is who fundamentally bad, who they have realize they can’t fix
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
yeah!!!!! oh and can i add to that! one thing i'd love to see? just like. a companion who is religious. in a way that is taken account into in the narrative and that is like. discussed? you know, how does going on time travel universe hopping adventures effect one's religious ideas. that would be fascinating to me. i think we've gotten like blanket statement things about future humans adjusting their religious beliefs or whatever but that's not what im interested in exactly. i want like. what does it do, to a modern human with modern religious ideas, to have to adjust that to aliens and shit. and how does their way of incorporating this life with the doctor reflect their character!
i think that'd be fascinating!!! and someone definitely smarter than me out there could probably write an incredible buddhist companion for the doctor and draw on the obvious cultural influences borrowed about cycles of reincarnation in constructing the doctor's whole regeneration thing to discuss shit. maybe one day. i'd love to see it.
#ask#thoughts influenced by yaz again and specifically that one quote from the people in charge of writing thirteen era novels#where they talked about how they weren't told anything about yaz's personal relationship to her religion. and like.#it's practically never brought up in the show? beyond the one episode about her family history. and i think she remarked on it in Rosa too#but like the people writing the novels did not know basic things about yaz like. what routines she follows regarding prayer.#not that im an expert certainly but i'm pretty sure one of the things about muslim prayer is directing it towards. hold on im looking up th#name. okay yeah see i was right about this. towards the Ka'bah. and so like. id imagine thats A Factor when you're on a time machine#spaceship. and that's like. the most basic thing i can think of. and they didn't know that while writing yaz in the novels.#but i think that would be an interesting thing to bring up! to discuss! how do you reformat prayer that's meant to take place at a specific#time and in a specific direction when you're on a spaceship! in a time vortex where time isn't happening linearly!#like. factors. factors i would love to have acknowledged and negotiated with the doctor.

oh hey, thanks! tbh given that i'd already gone down two separate rabbit holes for both the odyssey and der freischütz shortly before magic bullet outis came out, it is genuinely fun just to talk about her. not sure what i'd request for an in-depth writeup, but given that you're really into faust, might i trouble you for your thoughts on the council of fausts, carmen-coded female characters, and the eternal feminine? i have the sliiightest inklings of a possible link along those lines, but it's been a while since i've read faust and i'm currently too deep into fighting fish (reading moby dick) to pick it up again just yet, so your opinion would be invaluable. pls don't feel pressured to do so though! i understand if there'd be too much conjecture in it to do (especially since we're still only getting crumbs abt the council of fausts as is)
also, if you're still looking for english versions of weber's der freischütz, i mostly get by via the 1961 rudolf kempe english production (libretto by edward j. dent) and a subbed version of the 1968 film, both of which can be found on youtube. the one thing i havent found yet is a translation of the original tale though, so you'd definitely know better than i would on that haha
Okay wow ive been procrastinating on this one for a while huh.
At first it was on purpose because of the implications that we would get some more information relating to the Council of Faust in the WARP event, which we did, but after that it was just because I was lazy.
As an additional note, I am currently in the process of reading “Man and His Symbols”, a book about Jungian psychology, which is the lens I personally primarily prefer to view the following concepts on. Following that on my reading list is another of Jung’s books, titled “The Psychology of the Transference”, which I have been told mentions the eternal feminine much more directly, not to mention the bakers dozen journal articles i have saved on the topic — I mention this to state that this is almost certainly not going to be my last essay regarding these topics. I already had the vague idea of connecting Carmen to the archetypes of the collective unconscious, and now I have more material to work with regarding this. Thank you Freischutz anon. - Literally's note
This is going to be the first of at the very least 3 essays on this request, just for you <3, also for my wife Carmen.
Moving on, here we go.
To begin, I want to establish what we already know, or what some reading might not already know, regarding the titular topics of this essay:
The Gesellschaft is the newly canonised name of the “Council of Faust’s” revealed in the WARP event — Gesellchaft is a German word meaning society, or a relationship/community built on non-interpersonal ties and relations.
I do not remember exactly when the theory of the council began, however at the same time I do remember more people mentioning it surrounding N corp Faust, however for reasons I will not discuss, there is reason to believe that she is not part of this society.
Carmen-Coded Characters, alongside the Eternal Feminine, are linked together with the concept of the Jungian archetypes — The Eternal Feminine is the divine, culturally transcendent, ideality of femininity. A Jungian Archetype is a similar concept, first posed by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, of the universal concepts and images which exist in humanities collective unconscious. A notable and omnipresent archetype is known as the “Anima”, which acts as the internalised, primarily unconscious, feminine traits within a man, the counterpart is known as “Animus”.
Relating back to this concept of psychology (I am so sorry, half of all the essay topics I write about circle back to this topic), the Gesellschaft may act as a literal representation of this eternal feminine, a collective trait shared across mirror worlds, a communal sisterhood of the best traits of each and every Faust.
The council acting as a mass collective, similar to a discord server, of individuals who are independent from one another, may relate back to the Anima and Animus, with the final stage often being described in the image of Sophia, a representation of divine wisdom, which is a major trait present in Geothe’s depiction of the eternal feminine through Helen.
This final manifestation of the Animus is often considered a guide of sorts, acting as a messenger, as the highest level of harmony between the conscious and unconscious mind.
The primary flaw that one may direct to this explanation is in respect to the character of Faust herself, as, as is mentioned above, the Anima and Animus are manifestations of the Feminine in man and the masculine in woman — The argument may be made that the Gesellschaft may act as the Animus, the masculine, rather than the eternal feminine as is the supposed link.
To this I pose that, though you would not be incorrect, the council itself is “Faust” as a whole, acting, in a way, as the conscious mind of the sinner, having, up until recently, been the primary decision maker. Though Faust, the sinner (God this is going to be confusing after a while if I keep writing like this), is a member of the greater “Faust”, she does not act as the primary agent of decisions — Faust, the sinner, and the greater Faust, are both representative of the Feminine in their nature.
I have also seen it posed that our sinner is in fact Gretchen, and hence is why they refer to the knowledge as “Faust’s” knowledge, however I am extremely far from convinced for this.
It is important to note that, while I do attempt to read papers and literature on these kinds of topics, I am still extremely far from an expert in this field — Though I attempt to make sure that I thoroughly understand a topic before writing about it, it is important to note that there is inevitably nuance on this topic which may be overlooked, for that I apologise.
Moving on, there is additionally a link that one may make between the ego (Freudian, not PM), the conscious mind, your “Self” focused on the current moment alongside considerations of the future, and the Gesselschaft, once again placing the greater Faust as the primary ego within Faust’s body.
This can explain the fact that Faust’s base EGO line does not change during the most recent WARP event, the statement “Faust knows all outcomes” is not referring to our Faust but rather the council, the sinner’s primary ego.
It is additionally possible that, through one means or another, it was the council of Faust’s at large which manifested the Representation Emitter EGO, however this is simple conjecture.
This is the first topic that will be discussed in this series of essays, the next will likely be the relation of the ID and the Shadow to Carmen,
also if you dont mind Freischutz anon, it would be helpful if you could elaborate on what you mean by “Carmen Coded” characters, as if you dont, I will assuredly start rambling about half related notes because I am the biggest Carmen simp. - also Literally's note

it is very interesting that the only two things people ever bring up when complaining about how "dragon age isn't dark fantasy anymore" is the city elf origin and the broodmothers. like, there is no subtlety to the fact they believe the only proper way to be dark fantasy is to have brutal violence against women.
#dragon age#i genuinely dont think i've seen anyone bring up any examples as to why origins is Proper Dark Fantasy to them except these two#im not gonna say im an expert on genres and such because im certainly not. but it is very telling!

thinking about how she said that this album was like learning how to craft rather than a natural pouring of songs in relation to the melodies on the album.

if it's not rude to ask how'd you decide that you use they/she pronouns?
i'm trying to understand myself and I've been just asking around to try and learn stuff
feel free not to answer if this makes you uncomfy!
🍪
Not rude at all!! :)))
So I've gone by she/her my whole life, but I've never been super attached to my gender as a cis woman in any meaningful way. That said, I've been misgendered since childhood thanks to a deep voice and being fat, and it fuckin sucks. I went to the grocery store a couple weeks ago and two people called me sir, which was just lovely. I don't understand why it happens, honestly, but I do know that masc pronouns are NOT it for me.
Anyway, when I first got on tumblr I didn't have any pronouns listed, so people defaulted to they/them. I had never experienced that before, and I was like...huh. That's kinda nice. It felt like not really being perceived, which I'm a big fan of. When I did add pronouns, I originally had them listed as she/they. But the more I thought about it and became friends with people here that span the whole gender spectrum, the more I started to realize I prefer "they" over "she".
All that said, I don't think I'm nonbinary because I'm still fine with she/her and use those pretty much exclusively irl, but I also don't really see myself as a woman. Overall I think I'm just Some Guy, and that's good enough for me.
I have no idea if any of this makes sense or will be helpful, but basically I'm saying you should do what feels right for you. And if that's something that shifts over time, that's totally fine! To grow is to change, after all.
#miasma says#idk what im rambling on about and i am certainly not a gender expert#i just know what feels good for me

i was wondering do you have any advice toward writing less bland(for lack of a better word) sentences? i’ve heard some writers say to expand vocabulary, but i would love to hear your input as well :DD
nonnie!! hello! <3 ooh i love when you all ask me questions like these, i can certainly share some tips!
the key thing i remember is even if i think every sentence i write is bad, adding or taking away is so much easier than getting the idea on paper the first time. <3 there is always potential to make a sentence more interesting!
i think the biggest thing is making sure sentences don't all begin with the same thing. this is really tricky for me in conversation scenes where there's not a lot of action, but if I notice I start sentences with "he said_" or "he did_" over and over, i'll just flip the sentence to where that part of it is at the end and organize it that way.
going off of that, don't be afraid to break grammar rules! start a sentence with "and" if you want, use passive voice, etc. the most important thing is probably varying your sentence structures!! you can make some very long and flowery, and then some short and abrupt, and that is so so effective. commas are your friend! if you start to feel like every sentence looks the same, just go in and change things like that. combine them into one, flip them around, use thesaurus, cut it off with dialogue and so on!
expanding vocabulary is great! honestly though, reading is the most valuable tool to get better at writing. the more you read, the more you are exposed to different authors' styles, and you can learn a lot from that (and vocabulary in the meantime)! plus, thesaurus is always there, if you don't know the exact word for what you want to say.
#i really hope this is helpful lovely anon !!#im certainly no expert but i love sharing things ive learned over the years <3#& im so so honored you all ask me for writing advice#makes me tear up a bit 。゚(*´□`)゚。#໒꒱ rylie's angels

out of the blue today:
what if part of why pre-serum Steve Rogers tried so damn hard to enlist wasn't just PAtriOtiSM and "I hate bullies." what if it was partially knowing or being told repeatedly throughout his life that he would probably die young (due to his multiple disabilities) and wanting to do it on his own terms while fighting nazis
#cw suicidality#kinda#angsty reading of the situation#ive seen a lot of fics experiment with the idea of steve being passively suicidal but never with this exact flavor#maybe they want to steer clear of the messy territory that is disability + suicidality?#which is understandable#its really complicated#i certainly wouldn't want to write a story that plays into the trope that disabled ppl's lives aren't worth living#this is kinda different though? maybe?#idk im not an expert on disability studies#steve rogers#cw ableism#disability#disabled steve rogers#marvel#my post

@gomadayo hiiiii, here's blender stuff ^.^
in render properties, under sampling, this is the stuff to adjust. i find denoising particularly useful in viewport cause it's easier to interpret even before the image starts to clear. it doesn't necessarily make it clear up quicker but max samples sets how many samples it takes before stopping. for the render, you can set a time limit so it takes as many samples as it can in whatever limit you set before spitting out the output
speaking of samples and denoising:
here's what 12 samples (left, 1 minute render time for me) and 4096 samples (right, 35 minute render time) look like, without denoising.
and here's 24 samples (2 minute render time) with and without denoising (noisy on left).
#im certainly no expert myself but i know this shit is kinda unintuitive and overwhelming starting out#so im genuinely happy to help in any way i can!#tumblr compression may fuck up the examples a bit lol
