ok so im literally just starting to read robin hobb and am partway through the assassin's apprentice. im listening to the audiobook which is a little bizarre bc im p sure its read by an american doing a not-great english accent. but also im listening and knitting and frowning to myself like...
so this is GAY gay, right? like. like its *gay*. like im not talking "canon rep" or whatever but like its like, lord of the rings original star trek GAY. right??? the wit is gay??? it seems like the wit is gay. it seems like chivalry maybe inspired some Feelings in some men. it seems like fitz and the fool it seems im not crazy am i it is GAY
Hi anon I'm laughing SO hard at this phrasing yes this series is extremely lotr/star trek gay it has unfortunately few actual queer characters but it has gay as hell situations and implications all over the fucking place from go lollll. And I cant read any conversation about the Wit without mentally pointing and yelling LOOK ITS AN ALLEGORY FOR QUEERNESS SEE!!!!! I also hated the audiobook narrator ugh especially the voice he uses for the Fool, which sucks bc I love the Fool. I found the narrator for the next series (The Liveship Traders) marginally better at least.

I am finally reading (listening to an audiobook while i paint) the actual lotr series. Im not even halfway through tfotr. We did not leave the shire until like 4 hours in. We did not meet Aragorn until like 7 hours in. Who the fuck is Tom Bombadil and why is his wife so hot and why does he keep giving us nothing but bangers. JRRT really likes taking his sweet time and writing little songs. Also Sam hit a mean old man point blank between the eyes with an apple, then said 'waste of a good apple.' Savage. We've lost Merry then found him again like twice. We are still calling Aragorn 'Strider' even though we know his name. I am enjoying this immensely.

Hello!!!! Could I by any change get a LOTR, Marvel (MCU) and Star Wars (clone wars, originals or prequels - I’m fine with either)? I’m female/straight. I’m 5’1, athletic build, with long black wavy hair, brown eyes, tanned skin, and cat eye glasses. Im a Slytherin, Leo and chaotic neutral. I’m quite the lone wolf and extremely independent but I can be outgoing with very close friends. I’m creative, independent, confident in my own skin, and quite laid back. However, if someone tries to control my thoughts and actions I can be very stubborn. I have a sarcastic and witty sense of humor and love banter. I love art, digital art, video effects/vfx, video game design and graphic design. Literally anything to do with art combined with technology I adore. I also love kickboxing and strength training. I love playing video games and watching all sorts of movies (sci fi/fantasy being my favorites). I don’t physically read much but I love audiobooks. I also love conspiracy theory, sci fi and true crime podcasts. Thank you!
Sorry this took so long! I have lots of request and I had to work all day long, but I’m here now! Thanks for your request❤️
For Lord of the Rings, I ship you with Legolas!
• He is much of a lone wolf himself, and whilst he loves your company, he also appreciates some alone time. Whenever you deem it necessary to be alone for a while, he’ll give it to you without any arguments, because he understands you.
• As an elf, he has seen many ages and many different things, but your art style is something entirely new to him. Not that he minds; he loves it! He is truly fascinated by it and can stare at you for hours when you’re working. You’ve offered to teach him once, as he seemed so interested, but he claimed he didn’t need to do it himself. He just loves to watch you create something so beautiful, even if it takes hours for you to finish.
• I feel like, in modern day, he would be a total nerd. He’d know every podcast or conspiracy theory. He loves to listen or watch it with you, to which you both share your thoughts afterwards. When you don’t agree on something, it always turns in to a playful banter where the both off you will end up with tears streaming down your eyes of laughter.
• Where you are extremely stubborn, he’s very easy going. If it’s something too extreme, of course he’ll try to hold you back, but he loves to see where your stubbornness leads to. He’ll let you go your own way, but he will absolutely be that person who will end up saying “Hate to say ‘I told you so’, but I told you so.”.
For the MCU, I ship you with Peter Parker!
• Listen, we all know he listens to conspiracy theories. He basically radiates that energy. You’d have to be blind to not see it. I can absolutely see the two of you have a notebook with all sorts of conspiracies. You even made one yourself where Ned is an alien imposter. Don’t tell him though.
• He’s great with technology, but not with drawing. He’s more the 3d, physical kind of guy. Not the one who’s great in editing. (As we’ve seen). He loves a creative S/O, but one who makes digital art? He’s sold. Absolutely sold. You sometimes give him little art things, because it just makes his day! He knows the time it takes to make something, so he’ll save it somewhere and look at it for days.
• Yes, he probably got his muscles thanks to the whole Spiderman thing, but he loves to work out with you. He’ll sometimes make a joke about ‘taking it easy on you’, but he will kick his actions up a notch when he notices how well trained you actually are. Spoiler alert, when he can’t win, he’ll tickle you, so run away.
• There will be days where the two of you have a date night, which consists of laying on the couch, eating some snacks, sharing headphones and listening to an audiobook the two of you chose.
For Star Wars, I ship you with Lando!
• Please, just...your humor together? Amazing! You have the best laughs with him. A lot of conversations are made with sarcastic comments and witty remarks, which eventually grows out into some sort of roasting moment, where the both of you can’t stop laughing anymore.
• He knows EXACTLY how stubborn you are. He will absolutely try to stop you though. It’s one of the things you don’t really like. It’s all in good means, you know that. He’s just looking out for you, but sometimes it gets really annoying. You can easily tell him if it bothers you; he’ll stop, but makes sure you think about what you’re doing.
• He’s pretty confident in his skin. Sometimes, he’ll ask you things like “how do I look?” To which you respond with Not nearly as good as me.” Makes him laugh every single time.
• He made a whole special room where you can practice your art. He even made a little corner where he can sit while you’re busy, just doing his own thing in silence, yet it’s enjoyable to the both of you.
• Game night is a thing. You’ll have one night every week where you’re just preparing to beat each other in video games. He’s pretty average at most, but, for the love of all good; so not challenge him in something like Just Dance or Dance, Dance Revolution, because he will win and it really gets on your nerves.
I hope you liked it! Stay safe during these times❤️

Hello fellow boozie readers!
Sam’s Update:
Boy I’ve had a week. The gov’t is still shut down. My contract is at risk. My town is metaphorically on fire. And my pain has been really bad.
What Sam finished this week:
The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson: Guys, this book was exceptional. This is a fantasy story set in the Iberian Peninsula during Ferdinand and Isabella’s reign as they unify into one Spain. The issue is that Grenada, the last Muslim province, rejects this premise and is at war. Our main character is Fatima, a courtesan in the sultan’s harem. Her bff is Hassan, the court map maker and everything that he draws becomes real. Full review to come.
The Afterward by EK Johnston: What happens after the LoTR-type quest is over? How does everyone go back to their lives? Our main characters are the token thief and the apprentice knight. Both ladies. Actually, there is only one male squad member, the wizard. Everyone else is a badass lady. This book was super cute. It’s a quick read and I really enjoyed it.
What Sam’s reading now:
The Reach Between Worlds by Cameron M. Hayden: This was the book I pulled from my TBR jar. It seems like a cross between Harry Potter, Mistborn, and Name of the Wind. The main two characters are Taro and Nima, brother and sister, sent to infiltrate the magic school in order to save their parents from illness at the behest of a crimelord. I wish I didn’t see so much influence from those other three books. But it’s not bad so far.
The Black Powder War by Naomi Novik: This is the third book in the Temeraire series. Napoleonic wars with dragons. I’m listening to this on audio and am still enjoying the hell out of it.
Everless by Sara Holland: This book where years of your life are currency. YA Political Intrigue fantasy. I’m also audioing this one. I couldn’t finish it by the time it went back to the library so I was waiting on my library hold to come through. Now that it has I’m too excited by The Black Powder War to go back… oops.
Melinda’s Update:
What Melinda finished this week:
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena: What a crazy book! Twists were days. In this mystery, the characters try to unravel what happened the night a baby was kidnapped while her parents were at a party next door. So many secrets—stay tuned for the full review! (Editor’s Note: review is written and scheduled!!)
What Melinda is reading now:
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: I am a bit late to this one, but definitely thought it was an important read. If you haven’t heard about it, the story follows Starr, a Black teen who balances two worlds: that of her predominately White private school and mostly Black neighborhood. After her childhood best friend Khalil is shot in front of her by a cop, the incident spirals into a major headlines and Starr grapples with how to find her voice. We haven’t reviewed this one yet, but it will probably warrant a sober review, similar to Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and it sounds like Linz has tried but can’t stop crying.
Civil War: A Marvel Comics Event #1-7 (2016): As a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (shut it, Sam) – Editor’s note: RUDE but not a huge comic reader, my husband has been pushing me to read this for a bit. From his POV, it sounds like this was the basis for Captain America: Civil War, which is definitely in my top 5-ish MCU movies. I read Thanos Quest/The Infinity Gauntlet (the origin of Avengers: Infinity War) based on his rec and LOVED, so this is promising.
Ginny’s Update:
What Ginny Is Reading:
I am continuing my habit of reading multiple books at a time. (Also, i love the MCU)
The Power by Naomi Alderman – I’m reading this for a book club and Im not quite far enough in to have an opinion yet
Final Draft by Riley Redgate – this is contemporary YA with a high schooler who writes sci-fi. She feels about it the way O have so often felt about what Im writing and there a few lines in this book that feel like coming home.
Winter by Marissa Meyer – Its been a while since I read the prior books but this book is nonstol twists and turns and makes for a great audiobook
What Ginny Finished Reading:
In An Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire – there’s gonna be a review so I’m not covering it here. Just 😍😍😍
We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix – this wasnt super my book. I dont really have the metal mentality and there was a mundane brutality that made me a little uncomfortable. That being said the ending was beautiful and so so worth the prior discomfort. 3.5/5.
Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler – gonna be honest. This book just made me sad. I dont like overly nostalgic things (they tend to make me maudlin if they go on for too long) and this was drowning in it. Poor Becks family was kind of awful and I just felt bad. 2/5.
Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam, Melinda, and Ginny

All Rose muns read a lot, right?? :P 📚
A “currently reading” picture
/i was the biggest bookworm i knew in school. i used to get in trouble for reading under my desk during class. i read the lotr trilogy in three days (one day for each book)
/but once i got out of high school and no longer had hours of each day where the only permitted entertainment was reading, my adhd got the best of me. other than assignments for my classes, i dont do much reading of physical books
/that said, i am reading a couple webcomics–wilde life and dumbing of age. for my womens history class im reading incidents in the life of a slave girl, and when im driving i love to listen to audiobooks. my mom bought me six for my birthday, and i just finished portrait in death by j.d. robb. the next one in the ridiculously long series is imitation in death, which im waiting to start until i initiate my roadtrip back to school
/so i guess im keeping up with my reading in some roundabout ways, since sitting down with an actual book is a physical impossibility right now
/(also i realize that i dont have a picture but i have a few links so)
#ask meme#ooc#mun#/honestly its embarrassing how few actual books ive finished in the past four years#but i did take the same lit prof for five different classes because shes hilarious and assigns interesting shit#riflesquiddle#tg answers
