REAL! viren claims to have all these "redeemable" motives of saving his family and yet always seems to be chasing after power. as seen in the new season, claudia has been pushed to extremes by the pressure of wanting to save her dad and rhe overall stress of everything at the moment. i just feel as though there are more redeemable and goodhearted qualities that remain in claudia that have disappeared in viren’s character. claudia seems like such an interesting villain and i hope that we get to see her character develop some more!

Another difference between Claudia and Viren is that literally Viren had all these bullshit reasons but ultimately wanted himself to be in control of things over someone else being in control of things. He wanted power for himself in the end.

Claudia is maybe selfish, but not malicious. She's not evil. Maybe stupid for fucking with things (aaravos) she doesn't understand but. Viren claimed he did what he did to "save humanity" but we know he wanted to be king so he could be in power. for Claudia its literally just. Trying to save her dad

The Bear Season 3 gave me the courage to start Interview With A Vampire~ Among many of the things that I found darkly funny about the season are:

1. The whore house scenes:

a. The Alderman that rightfully got his head busted open for dipping his dick in Brick's poop chute without her consent.

b. Lily saying to her madam, "they're swapping Andouillie sausage recipes." over ldpdl and lestat's dick measuring contest / posturing over her with all the gay ass lust and tension over them being so thick and pervasive like the fog of war on a DOTA map.

c. Brick's ascent to being ldpdl's woman of business and ldpdl skirting around racist ordinance targeting his *ahem* 'facilities' by giving the ladies shares in the business.

d. "I have clean pussies walking the floor out there!" ~ okay ma'am, Brick my beloved, I believe you.😭

2. The period accurate homophobia:

a. Paul's gaydar going off if Louis and Lestat even so much as breathed, gurgling and screeching like a geiger counter going off at ground zero of the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor disaster - but not the defective geiger counter, "3.6 roentgen, not great not terrible.", but the accurate ones that could've saved so many lives and warned the reactor staff and first responders that they were all doomed in short order 😔

b. The police chief that came to loustat's home and shaded them for, "crimes against nature" at every opportunity

c. Ldpdl's mama basically calling him a filthy faggot in her mind at every opportunity, when unbeknownst to her he knew exactly what she thought of him after lestat turned him.

sidenote: actually it was heartbreaking how desperate ldpdl was for his family's love and approval, he tried so hard to hold onto them for so long - he's better than me in that regard, but it was so clear why that was ultimately an impossible task for multiple reasons namely....Bro you're a fucking vampire now! 😭

d. The crowd reaction to loustat having a 'dance of romance' at their family murder (unbeknownst to Lestat) divorce ball - the couple that walked right the fuck on out in disgust immediately at the sight of their pda might've saved their own lives if they were at risk of being lured in as prey. 🥴

e. "Daddy Lou and Uncle Les had a real funny way of being nice to each other!"

3. The unapologetic gayness:

b. him giving louis permission to indulge in an open marriage and obviously lying through his teeth about it - R.I.P Jonah

c. Him and Antoinette arguing over her finger.

4. Lestat in general. Sam Reid ILY - lestat my behated though but i see his appeal i really do.

5. Raising Claudia.

6. Claudia in general - she really is her fathers' daughter after all.

7. "Did you eat the baby?!" 🤨

One thing I feel like people don't take into account enough about the finale is how much Armands actions parallel Louis in 01x07.

Saying Armand is toxic and Loumand is over when Louis did pretty much the same thing to Lestat last season, aiding and abetting in his murder but being unable to go properly through with it. And all of us agreed it was fair cause of the dv - which Louis also did!

Throwing Armand down, threatening him with that rolled up paper like an angry father threatens a dog. Gaslighting? We all remember those fuck me eyes with the little eyeliner, going uwu Lestat ily forever we don't plan to kill you no🥺

Just cause Louis wasn't as girl boss at it as Armand doesn't mean he didn't do it.

This is still Louis PoV, of course Armand being part of his attempted murder looks bad, but from Armand PoV it's your 200 year long besties making you drop your toxic ass boyfriend.

It's not like it was Armands idea to do it, but choosing the coven over Louis made sense. Y'all saw how that man acted when Armand told him his trauma. We all remember "face down in the coffin." and "I used to be really good at running things"

The only real tragedy here is Claudia and Madeleine. And Armand at every point made clear that he didn't believe in a happy ending for them. Madeleine lived for Claudia and he was convinced Claudia couldn't live. She was just too young, and as someone who has experienced immense trauma at a young age he deemed her better off dead.

He had no right to do that, and it's incredibly fucked, but it was never malicious. Never sneaky. He told Louis to get out of Paris.

and tbh if armand and daniel were clearly and confidently on on-screen-ily together at the end of blood communion i think that would also affect this discussion more than people are admitting, but the reality is daniel's status at the end of the series in general not just with respect to armand is a big fuckin ???? . i dont like that either but i don't read anne rice books to "get stuff i like", i read them like getting ready for a wet t-shirt contest where the winner gets an uzi

if david and his relationship with lestat were totally unchanged and louis did forever-die at the end and/or was straight up not around, you'd see more david hate too (where david's not POPULAR but he's not generating that much discourse honestly)

18- Get over it.

The following silence was thick, in that old cliched way. Those eyes were dark, pupils pointed, looking into me. I’d never felt he’d looked at me so intently, like he actually saw me. And he was furious. “Excuse you?” I spluttered, like a plain idiot. It didn’t bear repeating, of course I had heard him. I felt that if I heard him say those things again I’d simply die. “Get over it.” He summarized his earlier statement. “Get over it soon, or I assure you, you’ll find me as lost to you now as I was then.”

I was thankful that I didn’t laugh. “Get over it? Louis.” It was condescending of me to explain. “My darling boy, my precious Angel. Be serious. You watched me be killed and did nothing. You even helped the killer discard of my corpse! Forgive me if I have a lingering bitterness. I should be the one forgiving you! Actually, I have, remarkably, given you an infinite amount of grace. Is that not enough for you, my love?”

He said nothing, only glared at me with a coldness so severe I felt a chill go up my spine. After a beat he spoke, quietly, with a commanding force behind his voice strong enough to take me back. “The killer…” he echoed. “Don’t you mean Claudia? Our daughter? The little girl you ripped from her mother’s arms and forced into a life of damnation, tormented an innocent to our hell, then caged so utterly to you that her only mode of escape was to murder? That “killer”, you speak of? That killer who would have never killed if you had not raised her too! Against my will? And you dare be surprised that I tell you to get over it. You dare resent me when I could not save you from the consequences of what you had done. You blame me? You wonder why I chose that innocent over the devil who’d stolen her soul? You should be thankful for how I have chosen to be with you now, after it all. Is that not enough for you, my love?”

I was stunned. I knew somehow, deep down in my ignorant soul, that he was right in his reasoning, right to tell me what was what, as I was being rather petty and cruel with my blatant passive aggression concerning things so firmly in the past. I’d been taunting him, needlessly, implying his inadequacy for allowing my murder all those years ago. And he had fought back, so fiercely eloquent. This is what I thought on, how far away all this business was, and how removed the man in front of me was from the boy who had stood helpless and cried, as if capable of nothing else, while I begged for him, bleeding out on the floor. I expressed this. “You’ve changed.” And as the words left me I realized that they were not what he wanted to hear. 

“Haven’t I?” He affirmed. “Are you surprised that I don’t sit silently any longer and take your abuse?” I shrugged. “A little.” I said. “I don’t know why I am so awful, to you and in general. It’s like there’s something within me that compels me to be cruel and spiteful when all I really want is to be with you and to love you and for all of it to be forgotten and alright.” 

We locked eyes for a moment, simply and honestly, without fury. “I just want you Louis. I don’t care about the past, I don’t know why I choose to be angry. I am just, you’re right, a devil.” Louis frowned patiently. “No.” He said, to my surprise. “I don’t know that you are. We are only…we are both half stuck in that draw of the past, and we must free ourselves, because we are different now.” I was enamored with his words, their unusual optimism, and the apparent love he felt for me. It was so precious that this was how it was now. I almost wondered I was still bleeding out on that floor, and that this was some fantasy I’d conceived as my spirit fired off its last sparks within my preternatural body. If only I could stop disturbing this bliss with my inherent awfulness.

“You are not that devil who took Claudia’s life any longer.” Louis continued. “That creature would’ve yelled or stormed out and hit one thing or another at my words. No.” He almost smiled. “You’re something altogether gentler and easier to love.” I wanted to weep. “And you are” I began “You’re not my fledgling any longer, if you’d ever been so at all. You’re the vampire I could never be. And I’m honored to be permitted to stand by your side.”  He fully smiled now. “And I’m sorry…” I tasted the word on my tongue, sorry. “I’m sorry for how it used to be. For Claudia, for everything. I want it to be better.”

“Lestat?” He asked after a bit of contemplative silence. “Yes, my Louis?” My response was immediate. “Could you pass me that please.” He requested, gesturing to a lighter sat unassuming and domestically on a nearby table. “Of course.” And so I passed it to him, and he took it, only to ignite a candle that he used to light the words on the pages of his very worn addition of John Keats. I watched the flame flickering safely by his side, saw those green eyes reflected as I have many times, within the flame, and I wondered if creatures such as ourself were truly ever capable of change—or if rather we got very close before we inevitably repeated the same cycles in unending loops for all of time. “I’d be content to watch this fire burn forever.” I thought rather insanely, before I went towards him and took my place in the red velvet arm chair by his side.

Episode 5 is going to be the SF flashback and I CANNOT WAIT! I kinda love 20 something Daniel (almost as much as present Daniel). I'm so intrigued about him.

And I agree about Louis have stronger feelings and not saying ily because of that. But also it could also be a part of their power dynamic (which exists in every single relationship in this show) and I think part of it could be Louis (subconsciously) withholding from Lestat.

I love Santiago too! He's a cunt and I love it for him.

so prior to the season, i was sure that armand's version of events was going to be essentially "armand's fanfiction" about lestat / paris. in book canon, lestat gives us the story first, but here, armand gets the first shot and there's no good reason for him to be honest about it. ( the fact that we have an interview from assad where he hints at armand lying to paint himself in a better light is honestly revealing on its own )

armand is going to paint lestat in the worst way possible because he's still salty af about him rejecting him. armand begs and begs lestat to take him with him, to love him. i don't see a version where armand is honest about that to louis or honest about it to daniel unless forced to bc the truth is already out. the real story makes him look weak and it makes him look cruel ( because he is fucking cruel ).

from a visual standpoint, it looks like someone telling a tale of romance when lestat and armand have their moments together. their confessions of love. all of that feels like what armand would have wanted the most. it's a fantasy and he's selling it. even the music in the bg... it's a romantic fantasy.

i see what armand did as simplifying the story and taking huge liberties with what actually happened. why mention what actually happened with lestat, gabrielle (that she even exists), or even the true tragedy of nicki? that doesn't fit his narrative.

i don't think armand stopped believing in the coven prior to lestat. i will always say that i think that for armand to give up the children of satan's values, he had to unpack a hell of a lot of his own trauma and stare too much into the past for his own liking. for the children of satan to be wrong about their beliefs, it means that their attack in venice was senseless. it means what happened to him, what happened to the boys that died, was wrong and that there was another way to live. i think there were always holes in his beliefs, but it was easy to believe in ritual, it was routine, it made sense. (i'll probably write headcanons about that later, rather than ranting more about it here)

i feel like there's some parallel with the louis/armand storyline throughout the episode. like there was something to be said about louis & claudia lying about their "maker" throwing himself into the fire and armand mentioning that the coven threw themselves into the fire. i don't know if the show will say otherwise ( i trust it will eventually ) but i absolutely maintain that armand killed most of his original coven, aside from the survivors who joined the theatre. we get kind of a common thread of "it looks better when they kill themselves," kind of thing.

i think armand tried to make himself seem like more of an active participant along with lestat in what the theatre became. i think he willfully reduced nicki's role and also wasn't going to talk about what he'd done to him within the theatre. or that it was lestat who pushed him to go to the theatre bc he refused to let him come with him.

i will stand by the fact that armand said he'd rather go into the fire than go to the theatre initially.

armand's not going to say lestat beat the shit out of him for biting him, that lestat felt enough sympathy to take him back to the tower, only to have armand beg him to take him with him. also, he's not going to explain the shit they did to nicki when he did go back to the theatre.

do i think the show's changing the book canon? no, not to that extreme. do i think armand is lying? absolutely. s2 is still very much within the boundaries of iwtv and i don't think we're going to get much in the way of what really went down until s3. i'm pretty confident that we'll get lestat's version of events, and frankly, it needs to be concise in s2 or else it'll feel repetitive when we get there.

@inanthesis Alice is another longer known RP partner and we've experienced a lot of fandom shit together (we don't talk about Voltron and BNHA lol) and I'm glad that Alice and I are still friends and I love getting to write with them too.

@frozenambiguity Claudia loml. One of my first Genshin RP partners after I stopped being a chicken and messaged her to say hi, now she's a part of my day to day routine just talking to and making sure we say good morning and goodnight and checking up on each other throughout the work day, and of course all the Chaeya shenanigans that I adore.

Something something about Fikhile and Claudia both being adopted through traumatic circumstances but having different perspectives on how it changed their life trajectory because of the community support they had or lack thereof. Don't know if this even makes sense, but just wanted to know your thoughts.

BLOOD AND WATER & IWTV? ANON I COULD KISS U… lowkey saw a bit of similarities in my girl fiks & louis in that theyre only a generation or so removed from oppressive antiblack systems (apartheid &chattel slavery) & occupy complex positions in these ‘post-x’ societies, both feel like theyre “playing a role” / isolated but now im also rly thinking of the fiks-claudia parallels..

fikile was a child of a lower class mom, unwanted by her family & trafficked to a richer family who loved her, but were culpable in the trafficking network that “adopted” her n love her in so far as she is able to be their golden child… the athlete, the good student, the good girl.. all that coming to a head in s1 when shes “exposed” for being preyed upon by her track coach who saw how she felt isolated& sexually took advantage of her vulnerability,,, fikile finding love in s2 w/ sam but sam being taken away by the system, and idk if u got to s3 yet but i dont wanna spoil it lolol. u can certainly see some parallels, in that claudia too was a child to a poor family but where she was first given away to abusive relatives & later taken in by rich vampire folk who completely subsumed her original identity (like!!! shes not a baby girl found on the side of the street shes 14… she had a last name, she lived long enough to have a ‘self’) & her being loved in so far as she can satisfy her parents (lestat and claudia bonding over the hunt vs. louis and claudia bonding over intimacy, while each parent both loved and loathed that part of the other they see in her..claudia as a rhetorical device in the lestatxlouis failmarriage, fikile being the clear symbol of thande’s infidelity..) claudia having a lover in charlie and being preyed upon and raped by bruce .. what makes fikile’s arc not a complete tragedy is that she has a support network in reece, chris (even if chris enabled some of her reactive ways earlier on), kb & the central relationship between fikile& puleng where puleng truly grows to love the person fikile & not obsessively investigating the idea of phume her mother clung onto that she once resented. but claudia dont rly have any of that. if only claudia had a batshit sister like puleng ykwim😭😭😭 she got madeline but she want #more outta dat one lolol. claudia flew out of the cage only to fly str8 into the lion’s den lol. she gone be down w/ the theater but we all know how that went down.. brilliant thought anon ily
