If an Illager reaches the age where things start to break down physically and mentally, many often choose to travel to or be taken to what is known as The Valley of Ghosts. A secluded expanse of rocks and remains, shrouded in fog.
It is an Illager Graveyard, a vast place where they can sit or lie down and allow death to take them with a swiftly acting poison. Their families will say their final goodbyes and leave lots of flowers or plant them in their loved one's honor. In Spring and Summer the fog clears early and offers a view of the great bloom.
Many Illagers are not keen on burdening their families when their lifestyle is in such flux. Some remain and live out their days at home, but for the majority it is better to end things when one becomes too sick or elderly.

Been watching Calvin’s from the fog videos and now I’m obsessed with Minecraft again.
My Lore for herobrine/players:
Ok so my version of players is that they are basically shapeshifters from the void. All the tiny white dots in the void are player stars (the brain) they command their surroundings void to either consume other weaker stars or the End island to create more void.
Physical Players started being allowed on the surface when the God, Creation (Mojang) found potential use with the void stars, that being helping them create new shit for the world ( Modding ). Now this is where herobrine come in, just before the Piglin war Creation decided to put their experiment into motion by pulling out one of the void stars (herobrine) without any accompanying void and as a defense mechanism it shut itself off. Creation spend months try to find a way to reactivate the star or communicate with it but after 4 month with nothing they decided to let the other gods, Knowledge, Foresight and Action to try their luck with it. Unfortunately before they could get any real work done with it the Piglin war started and they had to turn their attention to preparing the ancient hero for the upcoming battle.
At the end of the war right before the Gods returned to the Well of Fate, Action, who still had the dormant star on their person, drop it into the Overworld without realizing, leaving it for one of the ancient hero’s to find. That hero being Steve, one of the first three hero’s to be summoned by the Gods, he was a scientist and researcher of the slow forming civilization of ancient Builders while his older brother Brian and his daughter Alex were warriors, a ‘real’ hero they’d call it but we won’t get into that.
Anyway Steve found the fallen star and since it was the Gods who left it behind he assumed it was a gift, so he took that star deep underground to a newly constructed city/laboratory (the soon to be deep dark). Down there Steve had a team of 7 main researchers to help work on the mysterious star. 3 cleric villagers, 2 witches and 2 members of the newly made mob, Illagers. During their research, tension grew between the villager and Illagers, it got to the point where every Illager and villager interaction ended in an argument. One of these arguments however happened in the testing chambers where the star was held and currently getting a close contact check up by Steve. It started when one young villager, Issac Larmon kept pestering another young Illager named Esmith Hensworth, about her peoples interest with ‘concerning’ new methods of magic. Their petty disagreement quickly turned into a full fledged debate when other villagers/illagers researchers working on golem creation nearby decided to put their two cents in and pick sides.
Steve needing to keep his focus on the star, it being incredibly fragile, wasn’t able to defuse the situation leaving the tension and negativity to rise in the room tricking the star into think it was back in the void therefore reactivating itself while still being held by Steve. The star began to do what it usually would if it were in the void and that is to ‘make more void’ by drain the life from Steve’s had and replace it it with this tar like substance. ( the exp from Steve’s hand floating within it) This caused Steve to immediately let go of the star let it fall and crack a few shards off, this flip a switch in the star now realizing that it is in fact not in the void and is in desperate need of a shell now that it’s hurt, so it buries itself into Steve’s chest and unfortunately for for the both of them Steve’s human body was not made to hold something of the void along with the fact that it was such a sudden transfer that not only did it completely burn out Steve’s insides and light coming out his eyes/mouth it also cause an explosion and right before that explosion happened Steve turn to see his brother Brian coming down to see what all the commotion was all about. That being the last person he saw before he died and the only thing the star grab from Steve’s died conscious was his brother’s name: The hero Brian aka Herobrine.

Riffing off the last anon ask, I personally think humans and villagers are separate species, but in the same way that horses and donkeys are.
Humans and villagers can still have children, but those children are almost always biologically infertile, with only rare exceptions regarding females.
Illagers are actually biologically the same species as villagers, but have intentionally altered their bodies with magic to differentiate themselves since they were ostracized for their practices.
Piglins are completely biologically distinct from any overworld species, and so are unable to breed at all with any of them.
Endermen do not reproduce, and actually come into being via spontaneous generation, in the End. They have no primary sexual characteristics, no inherent concept of biological sex.
Fascinating! I always love discussions of species in minecraft.

Illager patrols are like wolf packs :) The leader is always behind the whole patrol :) And the leader is usually not the strongest, but the most skilled :) The physically strongest is always at the front :) The others members are usually the young bc patrols are usually used for training :) Unless there's like, danger nearby :) Also there are diff kinds of patrols :) Not to be mistaken with raid or hunt parties :) :) :)

The ominous banner/Illager banner is a cursed object woven and sewn with magic-infused fabrics and thread, and anyone with short or long-term exposure to the banner's magic becomes afflicted with Bad Omen.
Contrary to popular belief, Bad Omen is not always intended to trigger raids, though raiding is the easiest way to berid yourself of the curse (aside from drinking milk.)
Bad Omen has been observed to have multiple effects on those under the banner's influence. The effects come in waves that last roughly 5 days, as the magic slowly drains from the thread and fabric, each day of the curse being worse than the previous.
Bad Omen, when the banner is kept away from a village, typically starts off as just a string of bad luck... perhaps you keep stumbling over tree roots on your journeys, or you forget your torches at home and don't realize until you have made it far down into the mines... by the final day of the curse, however, you become deathly ill, delirious and plagued by nightmares. Your survival is not guaranteed, but you have made your choice and have decided to ride out the curse.
Illagers, Villagers and players alike can fall victim to the curse if exposed, and those afflicted often report odd supernatural occurrences, mental changes, as well as fits of extreme violence when in the presence of the banner.
Many of these reports include, but are not limited to:
- entire camps being massacred by the individual afflicted.
- the afflicted being driven to seriously harm themselves, such as though self-multilation or attempted self-drownings.
- the feeling of being watched when in the presence of the banner.
- Hearing voices when alone with the banner. At first the voices are often incoherent... bits of mumbling often followed by laughter. Once the banner is first "heard," however, the voices become stronger and can be heard by the afflicted while with other people, or even while not in the presence of the banner. What the voices say at this point is considered unspeakable.
- visual hallucinations—often tall, dark, cloaked figures standing over the afflicted while attempting to sleep.
- intense insomnia and heightened anxiety.
- increase in intrusive thoughts and paranoia.
Due to Bad Omen being magically tied to the banner, the curse is transmittable to others, and spreads through physical contact with it: from the one who wove the banner, to the patrol captain, to whomever is unlucky enough to carry it next. Some choose to ride out it out or start raids to break the curse, while other groups have been known to play an unfortunate game of hot potato with the banner until the magic fully runs out.

Illager hierarchy
I feel like Evokers hold the most power, they always get final say. Vindicators serve as their bodyguards and do stuff related to raids. Pillagers are the subjects/followers. Witches and other illagers are usually higher ups.
More detailed version below.
Evokers
• They are the highest rank. Usually only found in the woodland mansion. • They have 3 divisions, each with varying level of power.
• What division an evoker falls under may be dictated either by their family status or by their powers.
• The most powerful are those amongst the high council. They make decisions that affect everyone, in the mansion or not. Some Evokers in the high council are known to be unjust. Those who disobey the high council will face death. • The second most powerful are the Evokers that participate on raids. They work closely with the vindicators who plan the raids, often advising and instructing tactics and strategies. During the raid they must be obeyed. Illusioners, Geomancers, windcallers etc often fall into this division but are often deemed to be more powerful that a regular evoker in this division. • The lowest rank of evoker also resides in the mansion. They play no role in raids not the high council, but in other matters. They may be embassies or diplomats for the mansion. Sometimes they supervise projects commissioned by the high council.
Vindicators
They are second on the hierarchy
They have a vast range of roles in the mansion, what they do depends on their family status and physical strength.
The highest ranked role is helping plan raids, vindicators in this role tend to be well respected and live lavishly. They rule over the pillagers in accordance to the high council Evokers. They work closely with Evokers that take part in raid, but many of these vindicators choose not to take part in raids.
Also amongst the highest ranks are vindicators who were hand selected by Evokers to be their bodyguards. They are very loyal and close to their Evokers, often they will cover up the Evokers’ scandals because without them they wouldn’t have luxuries.
The second highest rank includes vindicators the take part in raids. They, also, are to be obeyed but what the evoker says will always overrule what they say. It is seen as a honourable role to have. They make sure what is obtained from the raid is distributed accordingly, most goes back to the mansion.
The lowest rank will often do jobs around the mansion. Whether that be cooking, looking after others or maintaining equipment. Sometimes they are raid captains.
Pillagers
The highest rank are the raid captains. They overlook and lead the raid. They take orders directly from those who plan the raids. Whilst not raiding, it is their responsibility to protect the outpost and the pillagers in it.
The lowest rank in the hierarchy are the regular pillagers. They live fairly normal lives but can be called upon to participate in raids and have some aspects of their lives dictated by those who are higher up. Poverty is common in this rank, unless they have a very successful raid.
———————————————————————
Witches
Witches aren’t counted as illagers, they choose how they want to live their lives freely. If they choose to involve themselves with illagers, their position on the hierarchy may depend on their abilities. Some may be kept by Evokers to be their doctors, witch would give them a higher rank. Some may be assigned to work in the mansion to make potions that may be used in raids.
Overall, they are usually in the middle of the hierarchy, but it isn’t unusual to seem them with Evokers in the high council or others Evokers.
Other types of Illager
This includes windcallers, geomancers, iceolgers, illusioners etc.
They choose how they want to spend their lives freely, but are open to working with illagers.
Due to their specialisations, they can be equal to Evokers. Their powers prove to be useful in many different ways in the mansion and on raids.
Thanks for reading until the end!

My silly little headcanon for why illagers didn't use horses is that they couldn't tame them and killed them out of rage.
The envoker then created the ravager out of spite.
Ngl I might draw that later

Villager and Illager Thoughts - headcanon
Thinking about the way society works with my silly little MC world...
Villagers probably have large sections of the world where they populate it, some villages are bigger than others and are very valuable trading places, but all villages are far enough away from each other that you'd have to use a horse or minecart to reach them, and even then, it might take a day or two.
I imagine theres wandering traders that group together in caravans, but nothing too big. maybe if you pay them a few emeralds they'll drop you off by a town in a few days. They're nomadic people, hardly ever staying for than a week, if that. They're always happy to see people, any new traveler is a customer and friend. Super friendly. Some can be sleazy, but they'll never give you items you can live without. Important fellows to those that live far away from any exotic places. They most likely know all or many languages, both spoken and written. It's better for business. I think to think they even raid temples at times!!! Maybe going though Jungle or Desert Temples just to leave things behind or take items,,
I think Illagers make plans of the best areas to build their strong beautiful mansions, and look for stable ground to build their outposts. I would think they have a way of communicating with those in the Mansion, maybe the ones that live there are more important or higher ranking. It seems like Evokers have a high status among other Illagers. Pillagers being the bottom of course. I also want to include more Illagers like those that were included in MCDungeons. They seem like so much fun, and different forms of magic usage seems logical. I mean Iceologers, Geomancers, and Wind Callers are all super interesting and really important to magic lore in the MC universe as a whole.
I do not consider Witches, Illagers (and neither does minecraft iirc) They all kinda just vibe and feel like they have their own lives. Not exactly violent, but curious and mischievous in ways that Villager culture clashes with. They all live on their own, but some make deals with Illagers or Villages. Their magic and potions in exchange for protection or resources. I imagine every village that contains a Cleric, knows of at least one Witch they can learn from, even if its gotta be in secret. I agree almost wholeheartedly with RetroGamingNow's interpretation of the Witch, I think its clear and makes a lot of sense, it's what i assumed for a very long time anyways. I feel like Witches are a fairly new source of magic in the world, compared to Illager and Villagers. This leads to them being seen as lesser than and never fitting in with either group. They rally in the ways of excitement, curiosity and overall, being true to one's self and never feeling sorry for being different. Witches are one of the most diverse groups, many of which are highly skilled and dangerous, but wouldn't hurt a fly without reason. Super happy group, some are hybrids or weren't even born Witches. My idea is there are Witches that are born as just that, and are brought up in the culture. The others are folks who practice witchcraft and chose to align themselves with the philosophy. (they refer to themselves as Witches if they'd like, its not required)
I touched on it a fair bit earlier, but, I had the idea that Villagers were also a being capable of magic. I like to think that the Iron Golems they spawn are from magic. villagers can create and build things when absolutely necessary or for their work, but they do not partake in magic since it is a lost art in their culture. However, the summoning of an Iron Golem unlocks a very deep connection with their world, allowing them to create life from (seemingly) nothing. (it actually does consume materials, it just takes those materials directly from the world from random places) A village will usually construct one themselves the physical way, but if under enough stress and fear, one can be summoned. Depending on the threat, it can be a permanent form, or just disappear after the Villager is safe. Illagers cannot do this, their connection with the Golem was cut as soon as they decided their fates. Iron Golems will only ever protect Villagers as Illagers are capable of protecting themselves. Although a Ravager is close to a Golem, I don't know how to fully implement them, as they must be fairly new to their technology.
Those are all my thoughts right now, things are subject to change. But yeah :0)

Ok, Headcannon time!
(This one is for both Mother's Day and Father's Day)
[undercut for mentions of courtship practices]
All:
Villager:
There is a small window of time in which females and males go into heat... It is manageable when it is immediately tended to, but it can worsen each year if they do not find a partner.
This process can also be initiated by special bread or foods if wanted by both parties...
(Same gender partners can agree to have a third party member of the opposite gender join in to help procreate if same gender couple are planning to raise a child...)
Expecting Mothers and Fathers have a calming 'purr' like vocalization to help when the mother is feeling sick or in pain. After the baby arrives, the Father's personality changes to that of an overprotective growler... Sounding like a cat's low growl. Mother's stay close to their newborn(s) and will also have a low growl... When growling fails to warn the intruder, they roar before attacking in self-defense...
Both can roar; the men sound like tigers, the women like lions...
Illagers:
Expecting mothers hold themselves off in a room they feel most comfortable with, as 7 times out of 10 the father is off pillaging or fighting to defend the homestead... With half if not all failing to return.
Single Mothers will fight to keep their unborn child safe till they are born, then they have to fight to keep that child alive till they have proven themselves or have become young adults...
Father's that do return are avoided by the others as they fought to return home to their families. They have earned the right to be left alone as well as their wife and children...
If they return to their wife having been attacked and taken, the father will kill the Illager who took her. If she cheated and purposely lost the baby, both the cheating wife and Illager are killed...
Illager parents give off low deep growls similar to a dog or a wolf... They also roar; the men like bears, the women like cougars...
Witches:
Witches don't marry or keep life partners, but rather live solitary to themselves unless a meeting is called...
Male witches will stay with their partner until she drives him off or she can care for the child without him. It is rare for Witch parents to stay together and even rarer for the male witch to raise the child alone.
There are more females than there are males... A ratio of 8 females to 1 male (8 : 1)
Witches have a hiss like an alligator or crocodile and can give off a growl like said reptiles... magic infused with their roar will make it sound akane to that of the T-Rex from Jurassic Park...

Illager cubs cling to their parents like baby koalas, and are usually carried in the front so they can be better protected. If Illagers are traveling in groups, the ones with cubs will be at the center and surrounded by a circle of warriors.

♡HEADCANON VILLAGERS♡(part two)
¤We started with the second part of the headcanons, it took me a while because I had gotten entangled in some headcanons, especially the one about the witches, but well, having said that, we started
keep discretion¤
■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□
Tumblr media
●In each village of any biome there is a "leader" and they are almost always the oldest villagers and sometimes they are the priests/clerics of the village and that command is passed to the next cleric
Tumblr media
the villages do not have a name to put it that way... aaah normally depending on the place where it is such as "southern village" or "north" they put their names in truth it is rare that villages have names, those who are named are the large towns or villas for example
In my minecraft world there is the town of sin, it is the second largest town that exists (since it has more services than a village)
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
●In the big towns it has places that are called "slums", while everything that is great and beautiful is in the center and part of the start entrance until further back there are these small villages that are usually in the most deplorable conditions.
(like some cities in our real world)
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
●the cats in some villages of any biome are just simple pets. while for others they are small guardians who take care of the houses of any carrion spirit and for the ignorant they continue to be helpers of witches
They would not hesitate to burn them (especially if they are black cats and those that are black with white spots)
Tumblr media
●the villagers are peaceful....but some are cowardly little bastards that if they would dare harm each other just out of envy or just because they don't like it, it doesn't necessarily have to be physical harm anything can harm
◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇♡◇
●for the villagers the players are very dangerous, it's like playing russian roulette with them they are so unpredictable that they live in constant fear that their passing player will decide to burn them just for fun,
although there are also some who put them high on a shelf as heroes or guardians sent by nocht
♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤
●the villagers have many legends depending on the biome. from gods who created the universe with a star, to a creature that devours souls
for them the stories cannot be missing
●Just like us, they don't know how they were created. Thanks to ancient writings from ancient civilizations, the existence of Nocht is known, and unlike us, they believe that he is the creator of everything, including the gods that they believe exists, so Yeah
maybe between towns they will fight for their beliefs and their biome gods but when they talk about nocht there nobody discusses anything
●if you are wondering if, in this world, nocht is god and satan himself is herobrine and if they also worship him as the being that faced their god
from witches, illagers and even some villagers venerate it and sacrifice
●and to finish....
the villagers usually fall asleep on top of others, while for the players it is super rare or synonymous with a relationship for them it is the most normal thing in the world so they also cuddle, as if they were cuddly kittens
Tumblr media
This is how they sleep in their little naps ♡w♡
Tumblr media
and that's how they cuddle

The illagers who live in the woodland mansions are part of a cult. The evokers are the high priests while the vindicators are the disciples. Vindicators refer to evokers with the title ‘Father [their name]’ while they refer to other vindicators, witches and pillagers as ‘brother’/‘sister’ and then their name. Pillagers aren’t as devoted to the beliefs of the cult as the vindicators and evokers are. The evokers are viewed as almost divine in nature, and the vindicators are very loyal to them.
Vindicators usually have very short tempers and can get enraged easily at a hair trigger when having a conversation with one.
Illusioners are to Illagers as Wandering Traders are to villagers - They’re conmen and lone wolves and will occasionally engage in gatherings with their brethren, but they like to perform their magic by themselves - but will happily trick a passerby into paying far too much to see some phony trick. They aren’t as murderous as their illager kin but they still have no qualms with the actions of the illagers. Evokers & Vindicators typically look down upon Illusioners and view them as blasphemous/heretical, so Illusioners typically get along better with Pillagers.
This is really neat!

yknow something I really like doing instead of just being normal in my minecraft worlds, especially my creative building world, is make up lore and characters surrounding each individual building, and make up cultures surrounding some of those characters(there'll be more but I ain't got time to write that many cultures down nor the amount of brain space to remember all of those details). One of my favorites I've come up with is elaborating on the relationship between the illagers and whoever lived in the ancient cities (and for the sake of the post I will call them the citizens).
"but August!" you might be saying, "what relationship are you talking about?" well dearest whoever is reading this post: a few notes
-dark oak structures in the ancient cities; only illagers use dark oak so it's clear they explored the cities
-only 2 super large structures that are clearly for living in within the game
-both are relatively advanced compared to other civilizations(citizens use redstone, illagers also use redstone but less so but they also use magic that the player cannot)
so what does this give us?
-both civilizations are or were likely long-lasting enough to have existed at the same time
-illagers cared enough to explore ancient cities after citizens were gone
-similar technology; perhaps shared between the two groups?
and then, moving on to my personal theories and headcanons:
-what if pillagers are conducting experiments on allays and vexes in an attempt to understand the rules of the world and how to reverse whatever happened to the citizens
-what if the citizens were robots or something similar to the copper and stuff golems except made of deepslate and diamonds and a deep love of the world, and what if wardens are an amalgamation of several citizens haphazardly glued together by the skulk
-one of my personal skulk headcanons is that it's a hive mind creature with enough intelligence to mimic speech and want to spread, but not quite enough intelligence to understand words. what if the citizens built the ancient cities the way they did in the hopes that their prayers would appease the skulk in some way, only for that help to never come along
-what if some citizens escaped but the illagers don't know that
-what if the illagers are hostile to villagers because the villagers are the part of their society that thought it was too dangerous to attempt to help the citizens and because of that they all got caught up in bureaucratic debate and the illagers believe they could've helped without the villagers' involvement
Yeah just some thoughts. I have more thoughts on other aspects of minecraft but this is a long enough post regarding that relationship; there can be thoughts on culture and history/timeline of events later
