(get ready for some unapologetic exposition 😂😂)

She was born in the 1500s so she's gone through pirates, the Spanish Succession, ran around Europe for a little while before coming back to north America, lived through the Old West/Pioneer era before Lots Of Stuff happened and she jumped from the 1950s to modern days. She's not immortal but she knows a few 😂 She's a human/sprite hybrid and the way we've written it is that sprites can just be incredibly long-lived (her mother is the basis for the tree-of-life legends, was created when the world was and is still kicking...sometimes literally. Or is now kicking again. There was a whole issue with them thinking she had died permanently for a little while there). They way we've written it is that sprites *can* die but usually have a way of regenerating themselves and storing their memories in their elements so that as their new body grows it remembers and they can sort of catch up with themselves. Becks being a hybrid means we don't actually know what'll happen whenever it is that she dies, or how long she'll actually live (provided she doesn't die from doing something stupid they can't bring her back from), but given that Taeda (her mother) was over a thousand years old when her first form gave in, Becks has got quite a ways to go yet. Plus her human side is from her father who is a mage, which are also long-lived in our world so...not immortal, but sorta creature??? I guess? Half creature? Half sprite, anyway 😂

Becks Backstory - Silvia

What started out as an attempt for me to keep things straight in my head turned into a series of short stories centered around Becks and her backstory, which quickly became her backstories given how many years she's lived and how many names and personalities she's adopted. Some are complete, some aren't, I'll update as I go, yadda yadda.

So. This is Silvia. She's the sixth name/personality Becks created. She's a bit more tame than Fiadris, slightly more reserved and a bit more broken. Doesn't let it stop her from being playful, even if that playfulness is a tiny bit more withdrawn.

–Late 1700s, America, hidden in the woods somewhere probably in the Northwest–

Silvia poked her head around a corner. William was huddled over his books, like always, small globs of magic light hanging over him while he studied. It was late into the night, but both Temerous and William were still awake.

Nevertheless, Silvia crept up on him. Barefoot as always, her clothes shuffling just the slightest as she moved. He was deep in thought this time, and she managed to summon a few vines to quietly creep along the wall, waiting until the right moment for them to reach out and slap his book away from him.

He startled and looked up and around as the book flew, Silvia catching it with a laugh.

“Gotcha!” she laughed as he turned with a frown.

“Silvia!!” he muttered, getting up and glancing around. “Give that back!!”

“What is it!?” she asked, sticking a hand out to stop him and looking at the page the book was opened to. Turned it this way and that. “These are sigils. Why are you working on sigils? I thought Temerous had you working on species classification.”

He tried to reach around her arm but was failing, her arms and vines moving to keep him at a distance while she ducked and wove around his grip when he managed to get past her blockers. “I– I don’t– Temerous just swapped lessons on me, I don’t– Silvia, come on, he’ll have my head if I don’t– Silvia–! Angel!!”

She stopped at that and looked at him, head tilted. He sighed and held his hand out. “Please, angel?”

She smiled. It had been a few years, and she still wasn’t tired of him calling her that. So she gave him the book back with a grand flourish, dropping it into his hands. “What is it?” she asked again, as he shuffled the pages back to the ones he had been reading.

“Temerous’ latest research,” he said, walking back to his desk and renewing the magic orbs of light. “He says something is going to happen soon and we’ll need to be ready…although what, exactly, is going to happen is something he won’t say. Just that we need to be ready.”

“Ready for what?” she asked. “How?”

William gave her an exasperated look but it cut off with a smile. “I don’t know, dummy. Temerous wouldn’t tell me.” He pointed to the book and his notes with a stick he was using to make the notes. “But he’s trying to find a way to combine these sigils here, see? Thinks he can make a way to separate a mage from their magic, just for a little while.”

“What? Why would he need to do that?”

William shrugged. “You’d have to go ask him,” he said, turning back to his work and tilting his head. “He’s really obsessed about it, though. As if this stuff is–” His voice cut off as it drifted away, Silvia already bounding down the hall and away. He called out after her and asked her to come back, but this time no amount of calling her angel would get her to cooperate. She was curious now, and if Temerous was the one to ask, that’s where she was going to go.

She found him where she always found him this hour of night. In his room, with the fireplace lit and staring into it. It had been years and she didn’t quite get the hang of this one; some days he acted like he was her age. And some days he acted like a bitter old codger that snapped at William and spent long hours staring into the fire.

Looks like tonight was a codger night. Not that she minded. He seemed to have a soft spot for her; never yelled, never hit, never threw things. Sometimes wasn’t always forthcoming with information, but never in a way that seemed like he was hiding something from her.

“Temerous…?” She called out, standing by his door. Peeking around the corner and waiting with her head tilted. “...Temerous?”

“...what is it?” he sighed, staring into the fire. “What’s gone wrong now…?”

She shook her head. “Nothing. Nothing wrong really. I just…” she hesitated. Tilted her head. “Why do you like the fire?”

“I find it soothing,” he answered absently. “Reminds me of…simpler days.”

She stared at the fire too, then, watching it dance and flicker against the stonework of the fireplace. Found her own memories flickering within…memories of something long lost. Long forgotten. Days when the fire was almost alive…Silvia stepped up to it slowly, watching it flicker and almost reach out to her. Like an old friend…like someone inviting her to play. She couldn’t quite place it…not anymore. But she knew that fire was once her friend, a playmate and companion.

She didn’t realize she had reached out for it until a firm grip wrapped around her wrist. She flinched and looked up, seeing Temerous staring at her.

“Don’t hurt me,” she whispered, tugging at her hand as she began to panic. “Don’t–”

The grip was gone, then, Temerous sitting back as a sad look came across his face. He’d never done anything to hurt her before. He hadn’t done anything to hurt her now. She rubbed at her wrist and stared at him, wondering why she’d said that. Wondering why he looked so sad all of the sudden.

“Don’t reach into the fire,” he sighed. “You’ll burn yourself.”

She shook her head. “It wouldn’t hurt me.”

“It’s not what you think it is,” he answered, reaching around to grab a long piece of sharp metal that he used to poke at it. “It’s not alive.”

“Of course it is,” she said, looking back. “You feed it coal and wood. You give it a space to breathe. You give it a home, shelter from that which would hurt it. Watch over it as it dances. Watch it until it sleeps, and then bring it back to life the next night.” She looked back at him. “How is that not alive?”

He stared at her with a slight frown, consideration now entering his gaze. A small smile cracked his features and he let out a snort. “I suppose, when you put it that way, the fire does sound alive. Quite alive indeed.” He put his hands in his lap and gave her a wider smile. “Now, young half-sprite. What can I do for you?”

She blinked. Oh right. “Why did you have William switch from species categorization to sigil work?”

“Because I need him to learn about it,” he said simply. “Why else would I switch him from one subject to another?”

“Why?”

“I’m working on a new project and I don’t want him to be caught out in ignorance.”

“Why?”

He heaved a small sigh and shook his head. “Never you mind why. How is your garden coming along?”

She tilted her head and looked at him with a frown. “I managed to grow some of the things you suggested. Some of the plants don’t seem to like it here.”

“Give them time. I’m sure they’ll come around.”

“William said you said something was going to happen. What’s going to happen?”

He stared at her. “Many, many things.” His voice drifted as he spoke, like he was looking at her and looking past her. Seeing something that she couldn’t understand. “So much is going to happen, little half-sprite,” he said, his voice dropping to a near whisper. “And you must be ready for it all.”

Then just as suddenly he roused himself, poked at the fire, and stood. “Come now, Silvia,” he said, flashing her a smile. “Let see if we can’t convince a few extra plants to make a home here.”

She was confused at the shift in his energy and mood, but that wasn’t anything new. He did things like this all the time, seeming to see her and see something else when he looked at her. Not like when Bran used to look at her, not nearly as off-putting. The look in Termerous’ eyes never gave her any suspicion or fear. And yet…

He shuffled her from the room, encouraging her to leave and following her quickly, getting her to race out to her garden despite the late hour.

OHOHO…I see you liked puppy yan… NOW TIME FOR KITTY YAN!!

kitty yan who you also take in after perhaps walking past them at a hybrid shelter?? you were never planning to have more than one pet, (i mean, you weren’t even planning to take in puppy yan either, it just sorta… happened) but you see the cutie in the window and have to stop by!! there learn that this particular kitty has been brought back to the shelter and abandoned multiple times for its… attitude. despite this, and the workers giving you very doubtful stares as you sign the adoption papers, you still want to give it your best!! you were determined not to give up on this poor poor kitty :((

when you get back home, puppy yan is near tears and knocks you over in a giant bear (puppy) hug, tail furiously wagging, the moment you step through the front door!! they were waiting for you for FOREVER, they missed you so so much, what took you so lo-

what’s that smell?

puppy yan stops in their tracks abruptly, sniffing you. you smelled like another hybrid. puppy yan IMMEDIATELY deflates and starts whimpering. we’re you with other hybrids other than them? you sigh and figure this is as good a time as any to tell your pup that they’re going to get a new friend soon. a kitty, to be exact.

and puppy is DISTRAUGHT. when i tell you they leave your arms and run away in a mess of tears and whines and cries, something they’ve never done EVER, since they insist on being stuck to you like glue whenever you’re home. you can hear them sobbing in their pet bed they never use (since they always insist sleeping in your room) and you feel strangely guilty, but your decision is set. still, you feel for your poor pup and begin walking towards the source of their cries so that you can begin damage control (even though the damage has already been done!! in puppy’s eyes… you’re replacing them.)

you try to explain that kitty yan reminded you so much of puppy when you first saw them. alone, scared, and very untrusting of the world. you just wanted to help, seeing as how puppy yan had gotten so much better under your care since you first met them. you thought you could do the same with kitty yan, you tell puppy. but they’re still not convinced. since you began your half apology/explanation, they’ve moved into your lap and buried their face into your neck. theyre quite big and don’t fit in your arms completely, but that just means you have to hold them tighter, so they don’t mind. still, your arms don’t bring them as much comfort as they usually do. all they can think about is the new cat coming to take their place. theyre going crazy with worry and grief, they’re not sure if they could share you!!

meanwhile, back at the shelter, a very love struck kitty sits in its cage. when kitty yan saw you through the bars of their kennel today, they swear they fell in love. they adored the way you scratched their ears and promised them a better home with you. eyes glazing over in love and hope, they dream of the day where they would finally be in your arms . you had to be different from all their previous owners, right? you were just so angelic and perfect… you wouldn’t get rid of them like the rest… right? right?

OHHHHH i could go on about this forever. how puppy will continue to sulk in the days leading up to kittys arrival. how kitty will react to puppy being at your place, somethjnf they didn’t expect!! how puppy and kitty would fight for your attention and spot on the bed. ohhh the possible angst and possessive yandere possibilities!! AAAAAA

ALSO PLSPLSPS U CALLING ME HORNY. i mean ik ur right but still. get ur head out of the gutter, sunny!! GET. IT. OUT!!! chami is onto you!!!

i imagine puppy yan would regularly kick kitty yan right off the bed because, well, kitty yan is smaller and is much easier to cuddle and the first few nights with them together is difficult! puppy yan is pouting, kitty yan is trying to sleep on top of you, its hot and humid, both of them keep fighting but eventually, they both finally fall asleep and the heat dies down and you finally get to sleep while being cuddling on both sides,, <3 so sweet!

and then the daily fighting starts. puppy yan tries to get you alone for some 'private' time, kitty yan ruins it, kitty yan tries to snuggle with you and then literally gets stepped on, the only time theres peace is when its their daily nap time!

i think that they would start getting along pretty quickly though after both of them realize how much you love each of them (and after they realize its rly rly fucking hot watching the other please you)

after that, they get scary. you complain about someone at work? well, kitty yan is brave enough to leave the house and puppy yan is willing to go anywhere as long as someone is with them (both of them are scared of getting lost so they both write down your address on their arms... despite having it on their collars...) and, well, no one is going to question you when the annoying coworker dies and no one would believe kitty yan or puppy yan did it! its a win win!

and its just so cute, imagining them sandwiching you, both so needy and desperate for you,,, <3 i also think kitty yan wouldnt have as high of a libido as puppy yan (but still v high) so when you arent home and puppy yan is feeling so, so lonely, kitty yan is more than happy to put your clothes on and provide some 'comfort' ;3

and if you walk in on them, kitty yan is just so embarrassed and tries to hide their face and puppy yan just cant stop pounding into them, face pressed against their chest so they can smell your shirt, tail going nuts and if puppy yan looks up and sees you? they just lose it!

or just imagine coming home from work to kitty yan laying on the couch in your clothes, a completely fucked out look on their face, legs spread, TV still playing those "Calming Video For Pets" videos and puppy yan pouncing on you, tail wagging, just so so happy youre back home. so cute!!

and dont worry about having your mind in the gutter, sunny!!! mine is too <3

so i literally only came across this IF today but i'm in love with the concept and all the characters and have just been reading all the scenarios stalking your whole blog❤️❤️❤️ it's definitely possible that the answers to some of these are spoilers, but i have a couple questions if you don't mind me asking!!

-how come dawn knows english so well? is it just because kids can pick up languages faster than an adult, so M just doesn't grasp it as fast?

-are half/part-fae people common in this world? or is S kinda a rare case? is that why they can cast runes and stuff or can full humans also use magic? M can also cast runes but theyre a shifter so..

-what's the belief system(s) in this world? S says "hells" a lot, and B says "goddesses" and "gods", so i'm guessing there is at least a pantheon of divines?? and possibly multiple hells? unless that's just how they talk lol

-are M's worms just like..there? are so they have a reason for carrying around a bunch of worms? are they their friends? ik it's so they have a lil bit of the thicket w/ em but like.. worms?!?

-what's the deal with the "first world"?? B loves it apparently but it's never mentioned anywhere else in your blog

-there was an ask from months ago where mc went crazy and said the birds talk to them and S got strangely excited.. thoughts??

-what's the human to non-human ratio in the village?

-B is an amputee bc of a birth defect, or "so they believe".. uh rice?? care to elaborate???

Ooo IM SO GLAD YOU CAUGHT ON A FEW THINGSSS!! I am so excited to answer all of theses questions for you!! THANK YOU FOR ASKING THISSS💜💕

1. Dawn knows English well because she taught herself along with stalking/forcing a few merchants to teach her. Along with her being at a young age while learning the language she was able to pick things up easier and listen in on conversations outside the thicket and put certain sentences together!

2. Yes! Half/part faw and other hybrids are common in this world! While both S and M can use runes, which invoke magic, so could B if they wanted to. The way runes work here is like this; the runes need something to take in order to give. Like how with S, they have their fist painted. So, when they carve the runes into their fist, their blood is taken and gives the force of the punch more volume. It will be explained in more detail in the IF, don’t worry. ^^;

3. In this world everyone believes in some sort of god/goddesses. They are all represented in stones an example is how when an RO (B) swears they say, ‘by lapis lazuli!’ As a term to curse the name of the god, lapis lazuli. While saying ‘by the goddesses/gods’, would be used when startled and sort of summon the attention of the entities one would believe in. While the term ‘hells’ is made plural because in this world there are several hells for the seven sins.

4. Ms worms are just there. They are there for a reason....that will not be explained due to spoilers ;)

5. Yes! The first world. I only mentioned it once as I didn’t want to put to much light on it before I properly developed it. The first world is basically…our world. The way this world work is that there was a time where humans weren’t always here. But then suddenly, they were and they came in very large numbers. I won’t explain it that much as it won’t come up often in the story but there will be an explanation!

6. S being…well, S. They didn’t speak to a lot of people on there hunts for their bounty. What’s a constant thing in the trees they would hide in? Birds. S would often talk to birds or any other living creature in there surrounding area on hunts because they were lonely. This will come up in detail in their own separate route!

7. There are definitely a lot more humans than non-humans, especially in chapter one and future chapters. The non-humans are pushed out of the village while the humans live in the safer areas. Can’t explain in detail due to spoilers.

8. Alright…so, Bs leg…..yeah, that was just a writing error 😅 Bs leg was a birth defect. I first planned on having the monster in the woods take there leg, but decided it wouldn’t make any sense for their character. Many people believe that B lost their leg in the prologue, when it was already gone in the first place. It’s probably due to that error so I apologize!! The wound B got in the prologue was just a nasty scar on their back!

Hi! A fan of your writing here. I just love the way you write Caroline. An Avoidable Heart is my comfort fic and I am constantly in awe with the way you write and craft the dynamics in that story. Caroline's inner monologue is just priceless and God! I just love that intro scene where Caroline is walking into the Mikaelson compound with vampires and hybrids in the surrounding ready to pounce on her.

I would love to hear how you would have visualized Caroline crossing over into TO or not? Like in what season and why? How it would have likely gone?

For Brad Mole, venturing into Republican politics didnt start with a sudden awakening to conservatism. It was his religious upbringing and way of life that brought him to the Republican party.

My faith pushed me more toward policies that better reflected my upbringing, he said. I began understanding that the teachings I was raised with were more reflected in a party that not many around me identified with.

The son of a preacher in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina, Mole is now taking his politics a giant leap forward, challenging the Democrat Joe Cunningham for his US congressional seat.

As analysts debunk the myth of the black voter monolith, some black Republicans are stepping forward to counter stereotypes and assert a political identity very different from the usual assumption that all black Americans are Democrats, especially in the era of Donald Trump.

As one of seven Republicans running for the seat, Mole credits his religious background for his motivations to join the crowded race. Those same traditions are often associated with centrist African American political leanings. But for black Americans like Mole, their conservatism leads some to question whether their political party and preferences actually match their worldview.

But hes not out to change minds; he wants rebuild a sense of community.

Political Primaries: How Are Candidates Nominated

Article two, section one of the United States Constitution discusses the procedures to be followed when electing the president of the United States, but it does not provide guidance for how to nominate a presidential candidate. Currently, candidates go through a series of state primaries and caucuses where, based on the number of votes they receive from the electorate, they are assigned a certain number of delegates who will vote for them at their party’s convention.

Earlier party conventions were raucous events, and delegates did not necessarily represent the electorate. Mrs. J.J. McCarthy describes her convention experience:

I can picture … the great Democratic convention of 1894 at the old coliseum in Omaha… right now I can hear the Hallelluiahs of the assembled. Oh how I wish I had back the youth and the enthusiasm I felt that night, I jumped on a chair and ask that by a rising vote the nomination be made unanimous, how the people yelled, how the packed gallories applauded, it cheers an old man now to think about it.

Politics played a big part in the life of this town years ago. Campaigns were hot, and there was always a big celebration afterwards. … Votes used to be bought — that is before the secret ballot was adopted. Some sold ’em pretty cheap. I remember one old fellow who sold out to one party for a dollar — then sold out to the other for the same price.

State Primaries And Caucuses For The Presidential Elections

State primaries are run by state and local governments. Voting happens through secret ballot.

Caucuses are private meetings run by political parties. Theyre held at the county, district, or precinct level. In most, participants divide themselves into groups according to the candidate they support. Undecided voters form their own group. Each group gives speeches supporting its candidate and tries to get others to join its group. At the end, the number of voters in each group determines how many delegates each candidate has won.

Both primaries and caucuses can be open,closed, or some hybrid of the two.

During an open primary or caucus, people can vote for a candidate of any political party.

During a closed primary or caucus, only voters registered with that party can take part and vote.

Semi-open and semi-closed primaries and caucuses are variations of the two main types.

William D. Kelley, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attorney and judge, served as a delegate to the 1860 Republican National Convention in Chicago. Kelley joined Lincoln in Washington in 1861 as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, an office he continued to hold until his death in 1890. Republicans are paying extra attention to a number of Republican governors, senators, and former officials that might consider making a run for president in 2024.

The contenders come from various contingents of right-leaning thought, and will be fighting to capture parts of former President Donald Trumps base. Vice President Mike Pence

Elites Still Matter Enormously In Primaries

George H.W. Bush

Just when journalists and political scientists were ready to proclaim the death of parties in favor of candidate-centered politics, the pendulum started to swing back.

Over the past 35 years, incumbent presidents have had zero problems obtaining renomination even presidents like George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton who alienated substantial segments of the party base with ideological heterodoxy during their first term. Reagan and Clinton both passed the baton to their vice presidents without much trouble.

Insurgent candidates who caught fire with campaigns explicitly promising to shake up the party establishment Gary Hart in 1984, Pat Robertson in 1988, Jerry Brown in 1992, Pat Buchanan in 1996, John McCain and Bill Bradley in 2000, Howard Dean in 2004, Mike Huckabee in 2008, and Rick Santorum in 2012 repeatedly gained headlines and even won state primaries.

But while 1970s insurgents were able to use early wins to build momentum, post-Reagan insurgents were ground down by the sheer duration and expansiveness of primary campaigns.

Tactics that worked in relatively low-population, cheap states like Iowa and New Hampshire simply couldn’t scale without access to the broad networks of donors, campaign staff, and policy experts that establishment-backed candidates enjoyed.

It’s this “invisible primary” among party elites that truly matters.

Endorsements were better at predicting the outcome than polls, fundraising numbers, or media coverage.

Former Vice President Mike Pence

Historically, experience as Veep isnt a bad launching pad for the presidency. Six former vice presidents went on to become president, including, of course, President Joe Biden, and an additional five won their partys nomination. For 61-year-old Pence, though, the upside of his time as vice president is more of an open question.

Trumps 2020 pollster Tony Fabrizio found that if the former president doesnt run in the 2024 election, his supporters gravitate most to Pence, DeSantis and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, so there is plenty of support there. But on Jan. 6, when Pence announced Biden as the winner of the 2020 election, he complicated things.

Hes got this tricky position, said Steven Webster, and assistant professor of political science at Indiana University Bloomington. I think increasingly the base of the Republican Party is aligned with Donald Trump, and Mike Pence is really seen with hostility by Trumps base, simply for performing his constitutional duty on the 6th.

Pence appears to be well aware of the predicament. Earlier this month, he published an op-ed voicing his concern over supposed voting irregularities in the 2020 election, though he didnt mention any specifically. Trumps own administration said the election was the most secure in American history.

Lincolnâs debates with Stephen A. Douglas brought him to national attention, including an invitation to speak at Cooper Union in New York City. South Dakota Gov Kristi Noem

The GOP is still very much the ‘party of Donald Trump

Noem, 49, has seen her profile rise during the pandemic, and she also had a high-profile moment last summer when she hosted Trump at Mount Rushmore for the Fourth of July. Noem gifted Trump with a Mount Rushmore replica that included his face, and her growing connection with Trump fueled speculation that he was considering swapping her for Pence as his running mate. She reportedly visited Washington, D.C., weeks later to smooth things over with Pence, according to The New York Times.

Noem isnt one to back down from culture wars fights. She recently came under fire from social conservatives for not signing a bill she originally said she supported barring transgender athletes from competing in sports. Noem cited her concern that the state would be punished by the NCAA, but followed up last week with executive orders restricting transgender athletes in K-12 schools and colleges.

Noem also recently got in a Twitter fight with Lil Nas X over his limited-edition Satan Shoes. The rapper responded to her tweet by saying, ur a whole governor and u on here tweeting about the shoes. Noem fired back with a Bible verse from Matthew 16:26.

Like DeSantis, Noem has played up her states more hands-off approach to handling COVID-19, but the virus has devastated South Dakota. Kansas, Nevada and South Carolina’s state committees officially voted on September 7, 2019, to cancel their caucus and primary. The Arizona state Republican Party indicated two days later that it will not hold a primary. These four were joined by the Alaska state Republican party on September 21, when its central committee announced they would not hold a presidential primary.

Virginia Republicans decided to allocate delegates at the state convention.
