forever hilarious to me that tennis is promoted as this prestigious highbrow big-brain sport when most tennis fans these days are like. yeah this is my favorite player. yeah i don't know why they're like that. yes they are stupid. no i will not choose somebody else.

#wta tennis #atp tennis #i feel like the era of...shall we say 'federer-esque' players is waning #which i think can in part be related to the loss of the one-handed-backhand #as the sport moves more toward a necessity for fitness and athleticism players do not put as much emphasis on 'art'#which imo is fine! i think the 'art' of tennis is too protected in some ways. which i maybe will expand on later.#but i think it's too much for the tags of a (mostly) silly post #but yeah you can hear a lot of commentators touch on it #i know nadal even said something abt it recently(ish)#but i think as tennis is gradually less associated with this abstract 'image' (e.g. the obsession with federer's 'grace' and 'class')#players are coming in thinking 'this is a physical battle and i am going to win' and very much leaning into the *competition*#which not to say that they're ignoring/denying the mental aspects at all because i actually do think many players are very strategic/aware #and in truth i think many tennis players ARE actually very smart #but i also think it's less apparent because more and more players are able to just hit the shit out of the ball and call it a day #which leaves you with the occasional shot/point/game/set/match etc where it seems like they don't know what the fuck they're doing #but you think about most sports which evolve in phases #it's very normal for certain player profiles to become more or less popular as the landscape of the sport changes #or as new techniques/strategies are developed #or as new communities/populations become interested!#extreme example but think of like. high jump's fosbury flop. that was one guy!#one guy who changed the entire fucking sport! so it makes perfect sense that tennis is continuing to evolve #given how many unique players have come and gone #and how much the sport is changing externally as well as internally #anyways. this got out of hand but i love sports and i love tennis and i love my brainless players.#this whole post was inspired by rewatching sabalenka v boulter and aryna completely missed an overhead by like five feet. lol #love her <3

Tom & B'Elanna give off closeted gay vibes in that I think if you asked them to describe their ideal woman and man they would respectively describe a swimsuit model (bonus: who's Not Like Other Girls) and the lead in some sort of romantic novel. Nothing even close to a real person. The most generic you can get about straight romantic and sexual attraction.

#B'Elanna would say that OR she'd just name some incredibly basic things that make you sad when you hear them #I can 1000% see a canon scene where B'Elanna is upset about random ensign guy not meeting her standards for a date #and everyone's of course of course of course like 'well YOUR standards aaare a little high B'Elanna' ha ha ha and B'Elanna's like #(she's upset but trying to work to take her mind off it) 'Is it SO hard to find a guy who-' then proceeds to list off basic things #the writers think women want and it's all soft romantic things and Tom's like (bc this is ostensibly a romance scene between them)#'B'Elanna are you serious?' ive been playing fear and hunger termina for like a week and a half (maybe closer to two weeks idk) and during that time i’ve developed this beautiful relationship in my head between daan and abella solely because i’ve been keeping her alive this entire time. i can just picture the kinds of conversations these two are having whilst traversing prehevil. abella lost her arm during one of my runs and i just imagined daan dressing the wound, talking about sacrifices and the weight of losing something important. i know im gonna have to kill her before the end of the game and i know it’s gonna hurt me because in my mind it’s hurting daan even more

#no offence to normandy of course i'm sure it's a fine duchy with many things to recommend it.#oh but wait! TAKES DEEP BREATH #ENTER jess and haley two normal u.s. teenagers no good families in a crumbling education system whose teacher is managing to hold on to #life by his teeth by paying his students for blood because blood banks are now all in hands of oligarchal immortal families and hes been #banned #getting infected generally means death only those families have the medical resources to make it go right #DEEP BREATH.#anyway #personal #and more - jess and haley become blood workers - sell blood for money. very dangerous catering to either criminals or elites or desperates #jess does get infected haley nealy kills herself getting the money to pump her full of drugs so she might survive. jess nearly kills haley a
