SKE48′s 10th gen kenkyuusei members made their first appearances at the theater today and introduced themselves!

Their profiles were also added to SKE48′s official website.

What the MNL48 app can provide to potential supporters are limited only to a short overview, pictures and videos of the applicant. Understandably, this was done so that the competition will not turn into a sympathy game. However for those who are normally curious and for those who are more particular with respect to voting, they will have to rely on their own resources and efforts to find out more about that person. My blog post for today seeks to fill in that gap.

Frequently checking the MNL48 app has led me to this applicant and to my surprise and gratitude I was given a chance to write her profile as part of her promotions. By writing this article I aim to share points about herself that cannot be revealed by simply looking at her MNL48 profile. Moreover I believe this article can provide enough insight and reason as to why she deserves a spot in the Top 200.

16-year old applicant, Hayaka Igarashi was born and raised in Japan. Following her dad’s dream to live in the Philippines as well as to learn English, her family moved to the country when she was 13. Despite the difficulty of adjusting to new culture, Hayaka has gradually gotten used to the Philippines and even loved it to the extent of wanting to attend college and work here. Her interest in the country also grew as shown by her efforts to learn the Filipino language.

I really want to learn Filipino since i’m living here but my English is not even perfect so… but I heard learning Filipino is not that hard so I hope I can at least able to understand until I turn 18(≧ω≦)

Like any other girl Hayaka has her own way of passing the time. Her hobbies include watching anime, cosplaying and even sleeping. Moreover like all applicants of MNL48, Hayaka has her own reasons for aspiring to become an idol. In the following sections I will presenting her in three ways, 1) as an Anime Otaku, 2) as a Cosplayer and 3) as an Aspiring Idol.

Hayaka as an Anime Otaku

「What kinds of anime do you watch? Do you have a favorite?」

H: It hard to choose…! I can choose only one?

「Not really ^_^  You can mention everything if you want」

H: Omg ok I’ll try to make it fewXD “One Punch Man” ” Jormungand” ”Dagashi Kashi” ”Gintama” My top 4 hahahaXD

「So you like action animes?」

H: Yes! Action and comedyXD

「Do you consider yourself an anime otaku?」

H: Yes! I like collecting figures and posters٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

「Since when did you start cosplaying?」

H: “When I start cosplay seriously, like putting makeup, I was 14”

「And that was when you were in the Philippines?」

H: “Yes!”

「Was there any reason as to why you took it seriously here?」

H: “Oh because first, I didn’t start watching anime in JapanXD and also, in Japan, cosplay is not really open unlike in the Philippines…

In Japan, a lot of people are so shy to wear or having something different so when they see someone cosplaying, they will get so surprised. That’s why we can’t cosplay in public… unless it’s Akihabara or like Harajuku hahaXD”

「Which do you think is your best cosplay among all the characters you did?」

H: “Miku Hatsune cosplayXD because that costume was my first time making it so many people helped me and I have a lot of memory in that costume!”

「How did you come to know about MNL48 and why did you apply?」

H: “I knew about MNL48 through social media.. and I decided to apply for it because I thought I need to challenge something I never did.. I think I wanted change! But also because I was thinking of how I can help people or do something for the people who helped and cheered me on, like when I came here and was having a hard time.

But I thought if I apply I would waste time and energy because everything I do don’t go well..! I have no talent unlike the other applicants… I’m not good at studying, sports, or art, so I didn’t know how to return the favor. But I want to experience and try more things and find something I can do…  Also I hope by becoming a member of MNL48 I can cheer people or make them happy even a bit!”

「What do you think will make you different from the rest」

H: “Maybe like how I can be honest with anything! Honesty is the best policy right? HahahaXD It’s just that i’m bad at lying though hahahaha(≧▽≦)”

「Do you have a special skill?」

H: “Ohh! Lately i can tell time without look at clock!! So cool right(　-`ω-)✧ And i can sleep more than 10hrs everyday!”

Lastly I have asked Hayaka about her phone. Though it may sound weird, I have read somewhere in an article that our choice of smartphone and how we use it tells a lot about our personality. Asking her this question, to my surprise I found out that she uses a ‘MyPhone.’

If I were to be frank, for many teens nowadays they would probably aim or request for an IPhone or Samsung phone. However in Hayaka’s case, she’s using a locally designed and branded smartphone.

As for the applications that she frequently use are the usual social media apps such as Facebook (Most Frequent), Instagram and Youtube. Other notable apps are Snow (a video messaging app popular in Japan), Amino (a social network where you can dicuss your passions with like-minded people) , Mikan(English study app), and Clean Master (an optimization, space cleaner and antivirus app).

Personal Impression:

Though my opinions may not mean much for many people, nonetheless I would still like to share them especially to those current and future supporters who haven’t had the opportunity to interact with her.

I have met a lot Japanese people in my life but most are exchange students or those who are temporarily working in the Philippines. Thus this is the first time I was able to meet someone who is residing here permanently. When I read her short overview, that she considers herself Filipino despite only being here for 3 years, that was the starting point of my desire to support her.

The second reason is that looking at her photos and her Facebook page, I can say that she is a skilled cosplayer. For someone who’s not really comfortable in front of a camera, I am impressed by the range of expressions and poses Hayaka can do through each shot. I think this can be very helpful for her if she becomes an idol, because aside from singing and dancing there will surely be jobs that will require them to act and participate in variety.

As for the third reason that eventually pulled me in, I think it’s because of how she honestly answered and engaged my questions. Though she was a bit shy with her minor mistakes in English, she has her way with words. It was very easy to communicate with her and I enjoyed it since the first time we talked. I think this would prove helpful in the future especially with the way she would treat the fans who would go see her.

Of course, I acknowledge that there may be aspects of Hayaka that I wasn’t able to cover and there’s probably more to this girl beyond my curiosity, but nonetheless I really believe that if only with this it already made me support her, I’m sure there’ll be others who’ll do the same as well.

One thing that I would like to remind everyone about MNL48, which every 48 and 46 fan know very well, is that talent may mean something but not everything. There are a lot of members in AKB48 who can’t sing nor dance, but manages to become famous because of how they present themselves and treat their supporters. If fans start to feel an attachment to a member and that member values her fans, the more recognition she’ll get. As for me, you already know my bet!
