Maybe I’m past that critical mass

My cells have absorbed so much 

heartbreak and sorrow

They have reached the end of their ability 

to grieve

Their senescence morbidly complete

The obsession with heartbreak, 

diminishing

The need to have some piece of you alive 

within me, fading

The desire to communicate, abating

I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to return to

those past fabled decades

The person I thought I knew was a careful 

construction, perfected over a lifetime

A specter, an apparition

His replacement someone I don’t know

And maybe don’t care to know at all

But a puny, flickering speck of lackluster

hope still survives

Like the last bit of neon gas in a rundown, 

ramshackle motel’s marquis signage

Illuminating what has been for just a nanosecond, 

before it chugs off with an 

acute buzz

And as the eye adjusts to the inky, infinite blackness

the slightest ghost of an ancient tumbleweed catches

 in the dearth of light

There, yet not there at all

Welcome to 2017!! You made it, what now? New year, new me? Hell no. Because humans are creatures of habit we get comfortable and do everything we can to stay there. Regardless of the inevitable and constant change around us. Unless we are no longer comfortable where we once were, we don't change. It's possible but for change to occur extreme discomfort MUST be present, and really how often does that happen?

I am an emotional wreck right now.
