A point of curiosity from an Asian person, but to my 'non-Asian' followers / moots:
When was the last time you had 'Asian food', of any particular type? And of course, was it any good?
#just curious#I mean the odds of anyone here ever having had Malay food is pretty low (or any other SG specific dishes)#but still#'Western' as a monolithic cuisine is kinda a thing here but I like to think I know my nuance better than that

really wish star wars had a comprehensive food guide.... the galaxy themed recipes they usually put out in those cookbooks feel inauthentic. seriously, there's not a single concrete section of detailed food in swtor or most of star wars that I can find save for alcohol and rations. you'd think a galaxy would be more developed culturally when food is so important, you know?
(it's also my headcanon that Eight's other favorite method of learning about another new culture is through their food, so he tends to stare expectantly at anyone with knowledge in that area hoping they'll treat him to a meal. it doesn't need to be good or bad as long as it represents the culture and has an interesting taste he's never experienced before).
#he did not hesitate to slurp vector's bug juice. *blasted*#swtor food guide where.....#the feast of prosperity is ok but it's got like 5 things on the menu#also curious about chiss cuisine#i'm definitely sure he forced lana and theron to buy him rishi food#and snuck out with koth to go eat local zakuulan treats#he's not allowed to gain too much of a taste for anything as an agent but he likes experiencing them#swtor#sighs#blue milk does NOT count!#i need richer foodstuff that exemplifies the very culture it comes from! methods! particular tastes! adopted recipes that get adapted!#this is an OUTRAGE

Yeah. A curious cognitive dissonance stretching back thousands of years...
I have been a sheep caretaker for like two days and already I'm like. Wow. I get it.
I get why these were some of the earliest mammals to ever be domesticated. They look up to humans with this sort of dumb but all at once innocent and pure and trusting expression. They're happy to see you. They follow you around. They like to be rubbed under their chins. Maybe its just some latent Scottish highland shepherd DNA I still have in me but I look at my sheep charges and suddenly I see why the love of God for humanity is so often described as a shepherd and his sheep. I'd fight a wolf for these guys. I'd go way the Hell out of my way for them. I'd carry their young for miles on my own back.
#i dont sympathise with people who feel killing animals is good#yes it is human nature to eat other animals and so is braining our next door neigbours with rocks which we also still do#yes eating other animals is at the base of many different cuisines and important part of cultures#yes killing an animal to eat it does not invalidate the affection one holds for it or other members of its species#which is very curious as killing something that is alive is amongst the greatest evils that can be done to it by its perspective#which is what this post is about#yes humanity has developed as a species by subjugating and consuming other species of animal for a very long time and it makes life#more livable and all round possible in a LOT of landscapes - great element to the subsistence strategy#none of that either invalidates that youre doing one of the worst things a living being can experience to the living being#in fact - all of that be true at the same time#its such an incisive problem that individuals and whole cultures have come with countless stories and principles to solve it#my stuff#personal

Do you have a favourite type of meal?
Prompt.
I’ve got a lot of ‘em. I think If I did have to choose, though, it’d probably be a good ol’ lasagna. Any kind. Easy to make, usually fast too if yer not makin’ it from scratch. Any leftover can be a slappin’ lasagna if you’re creative.

Thoughts on the new design for the passages?
Also which font is better for the chapter subtitles?
Is the font OK like that (I'll likely switch this one to plain Times New Roman or Courier, as I think this one is quite small)

hey, I want to support you if you open a Patreon, but I’m also broke and I’d need to plan monthly payments out. What tiers are you planning on adding price wise?
Probably like 1, 5, 10 and 25 or so. Maybe once I got proper furniture I can cut fabric on and all a limited 100 tier which would include making a western or superhero (because curious cuisine) full outfit irl.

Honestly, what's even more egregious to me is when the dish in question like. Would not exist without crops from the Americas. The colonization of both North and South America was because of the wealth of natural resources. The poor availability and affordability of some of those resources is a direct result of that imperialism. Did the Columbian Exchange mean nothing to y'all?
I do think it’s unfortunate that people (europeans) automatically assume that “american” style versions of foods are immediately the most bastardized version done purposefully out of lack of culture, when the reality a lot of times it’s rooted in a response of millions of poor immigrants stepping foot in a foreign land attempting to recreate beloved recipes with what few ingredients were available and affordable
#open mic night#i'm also not sure if this is specific to my region of education and family but like#this was also stuff that was covered in a lot of my U.S. social studies and history classes#there was a whole thing where everybody starting middle school in my district had to have a bunch of units specifically on like#tribes local to the region and indigenous culture and cuisine and how colonialism even before the formation of the u.s. fucked with it#my family didn't talk a lot about it a lot. but we did sometimes. the residential schools did a number on that tract.#but off-handed comments from europeans DOES make me really curious about how much a lot of you learned about similar stuff?#did you guys learn about the ecological impacts in countries you colonized? or sections on indigenous culture in your country?#i've heard very little about this from europeans et al and i'm not sure if it's because it's so commonplace it's not commented on or what

Looked further into this with an EXTREMELY specific website where the results seem like they're meant to be read by geneticists
Apparently, I match the most with the Lithuanian population...? But aren't they Baltic...? I GUESS it's close enough to the Slav Zone where I got thrown in there generally? There's so much to this specific test (the are a NUMBER of different models, some of them for specific areas.)
This mystery... what the fuck
#advanced deltawave#Anyway I'm gonna look up Lithuanian cuisine because this is the most important thing about this#I was just curious about this specific thing.#Fun fact! The second highest European population I match with is the Romanian popularion#Portugal and France come after these. Which is still fucking weird

the good ppl want to know: what's 1 food you're dying to try but haven't had the chance to yet?
ooooooh this is a really good question!! Honestly I’ll try any food at least once except stuff like bugs bc i have a phobia of them lol. but specifically ive been itching to give nasi lemak another try i went to malaysia once on like a youth exchange trip and tried to eat it but it was too spicy for me i got like an allergic reaction and choked up lol. but since then I’ve become better at handling spicy food so im curious to try it again mayhaps a less crazy more white people safe version. lmao
#in general im curious to try more southeast asian cuisine it sounds so good…#i am an admirer of the peanut. humble but powerful#asks#anon
