i love all of this so much and might end up writing a fic after all, because now this concept is living rent free in my head! once my schedule clears up, i hope you won't mind if i utilise some of your wonderful ideas, will full credit of course!
i really wish i had the motivation to write rn, because i have an idea for a post-canon Dracula fic where the characters have to deal with world war one. like, how do you even cope with thinking you saved all those lives, only for the entire western world to go to absolute shit just 20-ish years later? if only Bram Stoker had known what was coming.
anyway, i find it so interesting to consider what certain characters would do in that situation.
depending on when he was born, Quincey Jr could be just old enough to enlist or get drafted. or honestly, he might just want to be a hero like his parents, and lie about his age. and let's be real, that boy has some latent vampire powers that would give him an edge.
Jonathan has good survival instincts, an ear for languages, and the ability and willingness to scale sheer walls with a knife between his teeth if necessary. Mina has a really impressive memory for conversations and schedules, a love of technology, experience resisting what is essentially supernatural interrogation, and probably some vampire side effects of her own. both of them know shorthand and have plenty of experience with life or death situations. they would kick ass as spies and wireless operators.
Jack and Van Helsing would have to cease the medical malpractice to be actual army doctors. maybe learn about shell shock and call up Jonathan about that old "brain fever" diagnosis of his.
and what would Arthur even do? what did lords do during WW1? try to keep his friends out of harm's way? use his seat in government to try and end the war? grapple with the fact that lordships are falling out of favour and the world is moving on into a modern era without him?
i just find it fun to ponder.

Welcome to my first ever fic! I have another one in the works as well but currently neither of them have a title because title's are hard, so for simplicity's sake this one is Kanej themed and when I share the other one I'll refer to it as Helnik themed.
Concept: Around ten years after the events of Crooked Kingdom, 25-year-old Captain Inej Ghafa frees Maya Olsen from a pleasure house in Ketterdam. Maya is looking for revenge against the man who out her in her position, a man who she knows nothing about except his name: Kaz Brekker.
Tags: @wraith--2 @lunarthecorvus @just2bubbly @real-fragments7
I've only tagged people who specifically said they'd like to read more, not everyone who expressed general interest, but if you'd like to be added to the list let me know! <3
Content Warnings: in more general terms I want to remind people to be aware of the nature of Kaz and Inej's experiences and relationship since even if I'm not directly addressing these things they tend to be implicit in any writing about them, but specifically to this chapter there's descriptions of blood/wounds, and implied sa references (not graphic).
Chapter One - Kaz
"Now listen," Kaz leaned back and ran a gloved hand through his hair, vaguely aware of the traces of blood he was leaving on his forehead, "this has been fun and all, but I promised my wife I'd be home in time for supper,"
He consulted his pocket watch and frowned.
"And I'm already running late,"
It was clear that the man tied to Kaz's chair had no idea what to say. Or maybe he just couldn't. His cheek was a bloody crater; his jaw tight at a painful looking angle. Kaz paused for a moment to survey his half-closed eyes, wondering if he'd done the job too well. But the man was still breathing his pathetic, shaky breaths, and his eyelids were quivering slightly. Kaz hit the chair leg with his crow's head cane, and the man shook back to life.
"Are we done here?"
The man nodded shakily, quivering as he leaned as far from Kaz as his chains would allow.
"Good. Then I'll see you next week, with the money," Kaz pulled a key from thin air and placed it on the man's knee, "Have fun getting out,"
He walked away, listening to the man attempt to call him back through a mouthful of blood right up until the door slammed shut. Kaz stretched, smiled, rolled his shoulders. That had gone well. He was late though - she wouldn't be happy. Speaking of which, Annika was leaning against the wall opposite him, picking at her nails with a knife. She must have news.
"Go check on him if he's not out in an hour. Cleanly, for now, but keep an eye on him. If he tries to run this week, put a bullet in his skull,"
"Why me?"
"You're in my line of sight. And on that, what are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be at the Crow Club?"
"Just came off a shift. Brought you a message,"
Kaz nodded.
"She's back?"
"And pissed at you," Annika confirmed, "She's coming to find you,"
Kaz was meant to go to her. If she'd decided to come to him, it could only mean one thing: he was in deeper shit than running late.
"Fine," he said, and marched upstairs.
" - something else!" Annika called after him.
Kaz turned.
"Yennefer Baars is dead,"
"Then it's a happy day for everyone. Except for me, because unlike other people's spouses when my wife suggests murder, she actually means it. Go to the dock's and rustle us up some attention, the Silver Six is quiet,"
And with that, ignoring Annika's brief mumble of protest, Kaz began to head up the stairs. Yennefer Baars was dead. So that's what Inej had been up to. She'd been gone for the last month, and as a rule they didn't tell each other what a job was until it was over - no sense in worrying each other over nothing. But that didn't mean they didn't guess at what the other was up to, and usually figure it out. Kaz knew that Inej wrote a goodbye note before every job she did and left it with a particular member of the Merchant Council and his risk-loving fiancé, to be passed on in case something went wrong. He only knew that because he did the same thing, and Jesper was a terrible liar. Inej was better at figuring out what he was up to than he was her, that was true, but usually he had some idea. This time he'd heard nothing, until today. Yennefer Baars, owner and proprietor of the Tulip Mill, the most successful pleasure house in Ketterdam since the Menagerie close, was dead. Kaz had to smile.
Even if he was next on Inej's list. What the hell had he done this time?
It was raining, but what else was new? Kaz opened the window and listened to the droplets flowing over the pane and hitting the sill like a waterfall. He couldn't hear Inej, but he wouldn't be able to. Definitely not over the wind and rain. He left the window open for her, and headed to the basin. He shed his gloves and began to wash the blood off before it dried. Running hot water. Years ago he'd added this, with the bathroom of their suite at the Geldrenner on this mind. It was such a luxury, back then. So normal now.
"Inej,"
He smiled to himself as he imagined the brief look of annoyance on her face at him greeting her just as she opened her mouth to do the same.
"Kaz,"
He turned to see her, and immediately Annika's message was unimportant. It was good to see her. She smiled.
"How are things, Kaz? I heard the Silver Six has been quiet,"
Of course she had.
"A little slower than usual, but the Crow Club's booming. I've got time to fix it before the profit's take a hit,"
Inej nodded. A moment passed in silence, before she said:
"Maya Olsen,"
"What of her?"
"You know her then?"
Kaz shrugged.
"One of Yen's girls, isn't she? The Tidemaker. Never met her, but she passes information to the Dregs. I have a few people watching her, making sure the information's good and trying to find out where she gets it. Why?"
"I met her tonight,"
"You mean when you killed Yennefer Baars?"
They looked at each other, dark eyes stone. And then both their hard expressions collapsed, and they smiled.
"It's good to be home, Kaz,"
He liked it when she said 'home'. Really, he knew, 'home' was Ravka. But the Suli travelled the country, never static, never anywhere long enough for that one solitary place to be the only singular point they'd always want to return to. That was too limiting for Inej; she existed to explore. To her, 'home' really meant 'family'. It had taken the last ten years to get here, but he'd come to like that word.
"But we do need to talk,"
Kaz sighed.
"Of course we do,"
Kaz cooked. Nothing special, just warm bread and soup, but Inej seemed to like it. They sat opposite each other at their little wooden table, eating and waiting for the other one to talk first. Kaz was stubborn, but Inej was infuriatingly patient when it came down to this sort of thing. Eventually, he broke the silence.
"Maya Olsen, then?"
"She's at the shelter - "
"I didn't ask where she was, I want to know - "
"Let me finish, Kaz,"
"You know I've killed people for less than interrupting me," he smirked
"And I've killed people for far more. Now be quiet, and listen to your wife,"
Kaz frowned and mumbled something about only agreeing to marriage for the tax break, but stopped interrupting her all the same.
"Maya's sixteen, I met her tonight at the Tulip Mill and took her to the shelter along with a couple of others, but they were the only ones I managed to get out," she paused and glanced away, just for a second, before picking up the thread of her story, "the other girls were both passed out - long story, I'll tell you later - I'm going to check on them in a couple of hours. But Maya was awake, so we talked and... Kaz there's no easy way to say this, but she wants to kill you,"
Kaz almost laughed. So this was why Inej had come to him, instead of waiting for him near the shelter. The had a second place there, unbeknownst to the gangs or anyone else, except the liberated kids - in case they needed Inej.
"Invite her to join the queue,"
"This is different, Kaz. This isn't some random act of aggression or some boy from a rival gang who wants to prove himself. She hasn't just picked you because you're Dirtyhands, she's picked you because you're... you,"
Kaz collected their empty bowls and began to head towards the sink, before Inej tutted and took them out of his hands, swapping them for his cane. He leant against it, and pretended the relief wasn't palpable. Somehow it was still a bad thing to rely on her.
"How does this kid even know about me? The information she was sharing wasn't specific to the gang, she didn't know who she was talking to. Just that he paid her to talk, and to not talk to anyone else. Did Yen find out about the extra income?"
"I don't think so, but Maya didn't say much about it,"
"So what information, in your extreme wisdom regarding matters of life and death, did you manage to gain?"
Inej looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
"Information isn't my specialty anymore, Kaz,"
"Yes it is,"
She laughed, and Kaz closed his eyes to listen to the sound, but it was only short.
"She blames you for her indenture,"
Shit. No wonder Inej was mad at him.
"What do I have to do with that?"
"Apparently there was no choice but to sell her indenture to a mercher, when her father was in debt. The mercher died and her contract changed hands, several times, before it ended up with Yen,"
The tap hummed as Inej washed the plates. Kaz shifted his weight against his cane.
"She blames the man her father was in debt to," she glanced at him over her shoulder, "No prizes for guessing who,"
This wasn't sounding too good.
"And just for that she wants to kill me? So do a thousand other unlucky sods, Inej, I'm not concerned,"
"You also killed her father,"
Damn it.
"So, she wants to kill me. That doesn't mean she gets to. Doesn't really mean she even tries. I've killed a lot of people's family members, but I'm still standing here. Did you...?"
"Tell her we're married? Yes, Kaz, I'm that much of an idiot,"
"Alright, alright. Still, you might as well. Talk her down, take her back home and find some relative or whatever to take her. That's what you do, right?"
Inej rolled her eyes. She was now perching on top of the half wall between the little kitchen and dining spaces.
"She can't go back. She's a Fjerdan grisha, she wouldn't be safe. And as for relatives - anyone she's got would either kick her out or not dare the risk of taking her. But that's not the problem, Kaz,"
"Right, and remind me why we're more worried about this murderous little problem than any of the others?"
"Because she's different to the others, Kaz. She... well, she reminded me of you,"
"Oh," said Kaz, freezing for a second before slowly returning his watch to his pocket, even though he hadn't checked the time yet, "Then I guess we have a problem,"
Problem was an understatement, and both of them knew it. There was every chance that he was completely and utterly fucked.

"You'd want to hope Kane hurry's up, I'm getting a little impatient" Matt winked at you as you sat on the sofa with your hands tied together, "What do you want? Please, just tell me!" Your mind racing with thoughts of Dylan at home alone, hoping Natasha got your message. "I'm just helping out a friend, Kane just wants to see that kid of yours and I? well, I just want to take a moment to remember that night we shared" Your stomach turned at his intentions. The front door to what you assumed was Kane's cheaply rented apartment by the lack of furniture and the moldy smell coming from the walls, opened and slammed shut.
"About time man! What took you so fucking long?!" Matt put out his cigarette before turning around. "Sorry, I was busy" a familiar voice entered the room before the loud sound of a gun behind fired. Matt dropped to the floor, a clean shot to the middle of his forehead. You screamed at the scene as blood pooled around him.
"Y/n, shhh" Natasha put her weapon away and rushed to you, "it's okay" she added when your repetitively said no over and over with your eyes closed. "It's me, it's Natasha" she cuts your hands free from the rope with her pocketknife. "YOU JUST KILLED HIM!" You jumped away from Natasha in shock. "I know, I know, but it's okay" she tried to calm you as you started to hyperventilate, "Y-YOU SH-SHOT HIM! WHAT THE FUCK!" You couldn't look at her.
"I'm going to give you a moment" Natasha watched as you paced with your eyes closed while you processed what just happened. "Wh-where's Dylan?! Where's my son!?" You shot your eyes wide at Natasha, "He safe, he's okay. He's at my condo, I promise you he's okay" she assured you, she didn't blink once. Your eyes dropped mistakenly to the floor where Matt's lifeless body lay in a pool of his own blood cause a mouthful of vomit to find its way on the floor beside him. "What the hell is going on?!" you wiped your mouth on the back of your hand, "he was right, wasn't he?! Kane, he was right, you –"
"Yes. I'm not going to lie to you, this isn't how I wanted you to find out" she interrupted.
"Find out what?! Natasha you just MURDERED SOMEBODY!" You started pacing again to keep from throwing up again, "oh my god, you're going to go to jail, you're a lawyer and you just killed him!"
"Y/n, look at me, just for a second" Natasha came over to you and placed her hands on your shoulders, stopping you from pacing as you looked at her. Tears filled your eyes and you felt sick to your stomach, "keep your eyes on me, don't worry about what's around you. Just listen to me" Natasha's voice oddly started to make you feel calm as you kept your eyes on her just like she said. "Good, now, I know what I'm about to say isn't what you want to hear but I want you to know I would never, ever hurt you or Dylan" Tears streamed from your eyes at the mention of your son's name.
"I don't care what you want to call it but I'm a part of a mafia, I run one. That's where I go when I randomly take off and yes, I had one of my men to abduct Kane. That man on the floor, he worked for me, and I had no idea he was going to do this to you, I swear to you. I would never put you or Dylan in danger.
When you said that Kane was stalking you, the fear in your eyes told me that he had to be taken care of. Hearing your story, what he did to you, what he has continued to do, made my blood boil. I've never let anybody see me the way I've let you in Y/n. You're my best friend and I love you and Dylan like family. On Christmas eve when you were crying because I selfishly kept you late for my own pathetic needs, I saw a scared young woman who just wanted to be with her son and when you introduced me to little Dylan, I knew I had to do something to keep you both safe.
It's not ideal for you, I know and it's scary, I know, and I understand if you never want to see me again but swear on my entire life, you're my best friend and I'd never hurt you, ever"
You listened carefully to Natasha, she was right, it was crazy and scary but with every word that left her lips you became calmer. Her tone was honest and looking into her eyes you could see she wasn't lying to keep you from freaking out again. "D-did you k-kill him? K-Kane, is he?" You had to ask.
Natasha shook her head, "No. he's still at my bunker" she answered honestly.
"Is he injured?"
"Yes, he's missing finger and he has two bullet wounds"
"I c-can't believe t-this! Natasha, I let you into my life, my son's life!" you shook your head with your eyes closed, "Are you going to kill him?" You looked back at her trying to ignore the sick feeling in your stomach. "I want too" Natasha nodded, "because I know if he's gone for good then you and Dylan and finally live life without fear, that's all I want for you both. You deserve that" she adds.
"Natasha, you're a damn lawyer! You know how this should've happened, the legal way, the right way!" You took a step back from her, finding it hard to believe all the information you just received.
"The right way? Y/n he'd get a few years at the most and then he'd right back to stalking you and Dylan again. He doesn't care about anything; he just wants Dylan. That's why he had this prick take you" Natasha frowned slightly, she was right, you knew she was right. The justice system wasn't going to protect you from Kane forever. "I need to see Dylan, now" you looked at Natasha who nodded, "okay" she replied softly.
----
Your eyes landed kindly on your son as he played with the man who took your victim statement, completely unaware of the world around him. Driving his plastic trucks along the make-believe track, tears filled your eyes at how peaceful he looked. "Come on Bucky! The building is on fire we have to save the people!" He raced his fire truck to the imaginary building as Bucky's toy truck followed, "let's do this big boss!" Bucky smiled softly as if he could see the images in your son's mind.
"Y/n" Natasha's voice broke your attention, moving your eyes to glance at her for a moment. "I don't want to hear it Natasha, please. I just want Dylan and to go home" Tears streamed down your face once again, the entire idea of what Natasha did on the side for a living made your stomach turn. You couldn't look at her, not after everything she just told you. "Stay here for the night, it's late and he probably hasn't had dinner yet. I'll have my driver take you both home first thing in the morning" Natasha suggested, her tone had a promising ring to it making it harder for you to stay upset with her.
"We'll get an uber" you turned to her.
 "I know you're ma-"
"Not here, not in front of Dylan. I need some time to process all of this, alone" you frowned even though you were raised with well manners it burnt your tongue with the words that left your lips, "he'll have some dinner, I'll make it and we'll be off to bed. I just can't be around you right now Natasha" you explained. Natasha nodded, pain in her eyes from knowing she'd probably lost you, her first real best friend and she managed to screw it up.
"Bucky" Natasha turned to the boys playing, Dylan's eye lit up at the sight of you. "Mommy!!" he ran into your arms, hugging you tighter than he's ever hugged you. "Aunty Nat found you!!" he smiled widely while looking at you, "She did. Were you a good boy for, I me-"
"James, or Bucky or Bu-"
"She gets it" Natasha interrupted, giving Bucky a look to say stand down.
"Bucky and I were being firefighters! He can make a really cool water splashing sound and he fixed my truck with the broken door!" Dylan boosted; it was as if he completely forgot about his mother being abducted right in front of him. "Wow honey, it sounds like you had plenty of fun" you smiled softly at his baby face before kissing his cheek, "what do you say to James?" you added without looking at either Bucky or Natasha.
"Thank you, Bucky, for playing with me!" Dylan turned slightly and smiled at the man in the black suit, "anytime little dude! Let me know if any of your trucks get a stiff door or a wheel falls off, I'll be happy to fix it for you little man" Bucky returned the smile before excusing himself out of Natasha's condo. "Sounds like you had lots of fun with Bucky! Are you ready for some dinner?" Natasha turned to Dylan with a soft smile as he nodded quickly. Her smile only made your stomach turn, for Dylan's sake you had to play nice with Natasha.
Dylan had mashed potatoes, veggies and some chicken nuggets for dinner. He told you all about his moment of playing with Bucky while getting BBQ sauce all over his face as you and Natasha tried to keep things as normal as you could. Your mind flooding with thoughts of Kane and where Natasha was keeping him, what she'd done or was still doing to him, every thought only made the lump in your throat worse.
"I think it's time for bed, honey" you looked over to Dylan once he finished his dinner, his eyes were heavy as he looked up at you and shook his head. "I'm not tired mommy" he pouted trying his best to have you believe his words. "How about mommy reads you a story and tuck you in?" you suggested quickly earning yourself a light nod. Dylan slid off his chair and walked up to Natasha with open arms. "Good night aunty Nat" he hugged her tightly, "Goodnight Dyl, have a good sleep" Natasha hugged him as her eyes slowly looked up at you knowing this might be the last chance she'd get to hug her favorite little friend.
"Come on honey, let's get you to bed" you spoke after a few moments, Dylan letting you scoop him up into your arms before taking him to the room he'd be sleeping in.
"Mommy?" Dylan looked at you as you tucked him in, kissing him on the cheek. "Yes, darling?" you asked as you sat on the edge of the bed with a book full of children's stories. "I'm sorry I punched that man. I thought he was hurting you" he said as you brushed his beautiful curls with your finger, "You are my big brave boy! I'm not mad at you baby, I'm so proud of you" you couldn't help but place a kiss on his forehead.
"Did he hurt you mommy?"
"No honey" you shook your head hating that your little boy was asking questions that he should never have to worry about. "Why did he take you mommy? I thought you were lost forever" Tears filled your son's eyes as he looked at you with worry. "Oh honey" you made yourself comfortable beside him, snuggling him. "You're never going to lose me; he just took me away to have a talk but he's never going to bother us again" you assured him as you wiped his tears. "Do you promise mommy?" Dylan looked at you, "I promise baby, now, its time for bed! Somebody might be seeing Grandma and Grandpa soon" you hinted with a soft smile. Dylan's face lit up at the mention of his grandparents, "When? I can't wait! I miss them!" He boosted. "You have to get some sleep first then I'll tell you all about it" you kissed his cheek once more as you opened up the storybook.
----
Hours past and you couldn't bring yourself to move from Dylan's side as he was fast asleep. His questions pondering through your mind as you tried to process everything that had happened, and the news Natasha told you. It wasn't long until memories of that night came floating back. The look on Kane's face when he ignored your cries for him to stop, begging him to not take advantage of you like he did, saying no over and over unable to fight him off.
You thought about your life since that night, from finding out you were pregnant, telling your parents, Kane finding out, giving birth, and always feeling like your life was on the run from Kane. His face flashed through your mind as you came to a decision.
Natasha was on the rooftop downing a scotch and a cigarette while looking over the city from afar, puffing on her toxic tabaco as if the world she life never bothered her.
"Natasha" you spoke softly from behind, she looked over her shoulder as she put out her cigarette and turned to face you, "What did you decide?" she asked clenching her jaw.

"What happened Y/N? Why are you alone out here?," you close your eyes at the voice, feeling your insides twist in annoyance at the mere thought of having to face him. Turning around, you almost regret it, the smirk on his face he eyes you mischievously making a groan escape your lips. "What do you want, Park?," you mutter, clenching your teeth as he gives you a mock hurt expression. "Now now love," he says, walking closer to you, "I was just being nice since you look so bored."
And he wasn't wrong, since you really were bored. The party was decent enough, but your friends having had been a little too drunk to your liking had prompted you to leave the room, escaping to the roof in search of some fresh air. Too bad you weren't the only one who had had the idea, though, leaving you with no choice but to be face-to-face with Jay Park, your mortal enemy. What had he done to receive such a treatment, you ask? Nothing really, except for being insanely hot and painfully annoying.
Despite being the campus heartthrob, he had always been the nice one to everyone, expect you it seemed, though it wasn't like he went out of his way to be mean to you. On the contrary actually, you often found yourself being cornered in empty corridors, or had random notes make their way to your locker, covered in flirty comments and lewd messages that were enough to make you press your thighs together. You knew he was interested, and you'd be lying if you said you weren't too, but you had decided to put up a facade in order to keep him at bay, afraid of falling falling him if he came too close. Cliché, it did seem, but it was the only way you could think of, making the so-called hatred the two of you shared, a one-sided affair at best.
Shaking your head, you merely roll your eyes before replying, not in the mood to cause a scene. "I-I just wanted to be alone I guess," you say, "But I clearly am not lucky enough." This only causes the smirk on Jay's face to grow wider as he quirks his eyebrows, shamelessly taking your form in from head to toe. "You know," he starts, taking yet another step in your direction, now standing right in front of you, "The offer still stands." It doesn't take you more than a second to realize what he's hinting at, the implication making a gulp slip down your throat as you stare at him. "What the-," you start, words dying at the tip of your tongue and all thoughts flying out the window (read: balcony) when he leans in close to you, breath fanning your ear as he says, "I could take your boredom away," voice dropping to a whisper and making goosebumps rise on your skin.
Shaking your head, you try to push him away, only to have him grab your wrist, twisting it ever so slightly. "Now now love, we both know you want it too. This hatred of yours is a complete sham and you know it," he grins, making your blood boil. "In your dreams, Jeongsong," you finally say, practically seething at this point, "I'm sure you won't even be able to make me cum." Your comment catches him off-guard, the surprised expression on his face leaving you satisfied.
Pulling your wrist out of his grip, you begin walking away, but this time, he takes hold of your arm, pulling you back against his chest. "Is that a challenge?," he whispers against your ear, making you clench your teeth and curl your toes at the same time. All of a sudden, your eyes go wide when you feel him grinding against your butt, his clothed member rubbing against the fabric of your dress. The simple movement makes wetness pool between your legs, all the pent up sexual frustration hitting you like a truck and making you let out a moan despite yourself.
Your pretty sound causes Jay to smirk as he suddenly stops, pulls away from you completely. The loss of contact makes you bite down on your bottom of your lip to keep from whining, and turning around, you decide to let go of your rules for one night. "Game on, Park," you say, grabbing him by the collar and smashing your lips onto his. He tastes of alcohol and candy, a weird combination that leaves you intoxicated as his hands grab your hips, squeezing them and making you moan into the kiss. Your hands go flying to his hair, tugging on them as you pull him ever so close to you. His tongue grazes against your bottom lip, and barely five seconds later, he is exploring the depths of your mouth, who you begin rubbing against him, eliciting a well-deserved groan from him.
Pulling away after what feels like hours, you keep your lips close to his, whispering, "Let's get a room." That's all it takes for the man in front of you to drag you inside the house, searching for an empty room. It doesn't take long for him to find one, and the moment the two of you are inside, he catches your lips in another kiss, pushing you back towards the bed and causing you to fall onto the mattress as he hovers over you, his lips moving from your own to your jaw and then to your neck, leaving a trail of marks in his wake. Pulling away, he admires his work, a grin playing at his lips as he says, "So pretty. And just for me." Scoffing at his comment, you say, "Stop acting like you're the only guy I've fucked," smirking when you see his expression turn into a sneer. "Don't you worry Y/N," he replies, "By the time I'm done with you, I'll be the only one you remember."
And with that he rolls the hem of your dress up your thighs, spreading your legs as he coos at the wet spot on your panties. "See? I haven't even done anything and you're already so wet," he says, making you open your mouth to give a snarky reply. But all that slips past your lips is a soft gasp as he presses a kiss on the inside of your thighs, dangerously close to your heat. The action leaves you wanting more, and you can't help but buck your hips. "So needy," is all he says, before hooking his finger in your panties and pushing it to the side, only to dip his mouth once again, leaving a long lick up your folds. The sensation earns him a moan from you, your hands moving back to his hair as you push his face down towards your pussy.
He can't help the chuckle that escapes his lips as he pulls away, the whimper from your lips stopping short as you feel him take the fabric off your body altogether, before lying down and kissing your heat softly. You mewl at the contact, feeling his tongue dart into your hole as his fingers begin rubbing your clit, the circular motions sending your eyeballs rolling to back of your head in pleasure. "M-more," you manage to choke out somehow, and to your joy, Jay obliges, speeding up as he continues to thrust his tongue inside you, his fingers continuing their ministrations on your folds.
The room grows silent, the only sound being the soft slurps from his mouth and the low moans from yours, and slowly but surely, you feel the tension rising in your body, a knot growing in the pit of your stomach. And then suddenly, just like that, you feel that knot recede as he pulls away from your pussy, the sudden exposure leaving you a whining mess. "Let's leave it for later, love," is all he says, sticking his hand out for you to take. You comply, letting him pull you up as he places a chaste kiss on your lips, making you taste yourself on his lips.
Pulling away, you waste no time in getting on your knees, making quick work of his belt and unbuttoning his pants. In less than a minute, you manage to pull them down along with his boxers, making his hard length spring out in all its glory. It would be a lie if you said you didn't feel your mouth water, the fantasies that you insisted on keeping in the darkest corner of your mind finally becoming a reality. Wrapping your hands around him, you pump him a couple times, before taking him into your mouth at an agonizingly slow pace, swirling your tongue around his tip ever so slightly. Growing impatient, Jay decides to take matters into his own hands, taking hold of your hair and pushing himself into your mouth, making you nearly gag as a "You're so annoying," escapes his lips.
Recovering fast, you begin bobbing your head up and down his length, letting his guide you as you hands massage his balls. "You're s-so g-good," he moans out, throwing his head back in pleasure and bucking his hips while you continue to swirl your tongue around his girth. It doesn't take you long to get him all riled up, only to have him pull out of your mouth just before he hits his orgasm. You can't help the satisfied grin that settles over your face as you get up, wiping the saliva off your lips.
Rolling his eyes at you, Jay doesn't waste a second in pushing you back onto the bed, grinning at the tiny yelp that escapes you. Spreading your thighs, he rolls your dress up once again, not wanting to engage in the unnecessary task of stripping naked. Picking up his jeans, he says, "God knows how badly I want to feel you," while taking a condom out of his pocket. But you stop him, saying, "Good for you I'm on the pill then," lips curving into a smirk at his delighted expression. You don't have to tell him twice, as he aligns himself in front of you, thrusting in without warning, hilt deep. A loud gasp escapes your lips at the sudden movement, hands wrapping around his back as you pull him closer.
Jay starts moving in and out of you, speeding up the pace as he lifts your legs, wrapping them around his own to get a better angle. Your fingers rake against his back as you pull him in for a kiss, the room growing silent once again. The only sound is that of skin slapping against skin, and the lewd moans that escape both of you into the kiss. Pulling away, you can't help but say, "I hate you," against his lips, giggling as he rolls his eyes, only to speed up the pace further. Soon enough, you feel yourself edge closer to your climax, the stimulation from before making your knees go weak.
Your moans get louder as you feel yourself hanging by a tiny thread, barely registering it when Jay says, "Want t-to cum i-inside-," opening his eyes to look at you. You somehow manage to nod your head, just as he releases his seed inside you, filling you up with his warm juice. That is enough to push you over the edge, your own cum mixing with his as he collapses on your chest, riding out his high. You stay like that for a while, until he pulls out of you, pulling his boxers up his legs as he admires the juices seeping out of you. Walking into the washroom, he comes back out with a towel, handing it to you before placing a chaste kiss on your lips.
Standing back up, he smirks, saying, "I could get used to this." And with that, he's out the door, leaving you shaking your head.

when you become untouchable {Vigilante | Adrian Chase} // four
four. a wave of heads did turn (or so i've been told)
Summary: With the rest of the day off comes the first free time you've been trusted with in the outside world in over a decade which is both overwhelming and probably a terrible idea. The only worse idea you can think of is joking about getting murdered in the woods, but then showing up with the guy who decided to put you at the top of his most recent hitlist. Sure it was a few years ago, and he doesn't appear to feel that way now, but it's the principle of the thing. Except maybe a challenge like this will remind you exactly what you are capable of.
Need to Know: She/Her pronouns. villain!meta-human!reader. self depricating reader. chaos. implied dehumanisation. canon typical violence. possible smut in later chapter i haven't decided. slowish burn.
Warnings: so much murder talk
[ masterpost ]
A/N: its 8am and the vibes on this are incomprehensible, im genuinely requesting a vibe check because is this good even a little bit??? anyways I'm making the reader more unhinged each chapter it seems. how long until shes just me in a fancy hat.. pacing isn't real . shut up ur all gonna die . As much as you love your team mates, you're discovering more and more that your kind of hate actually working in a team. The reason, however, is far stupider than you can ever bring yourself to justify admitting out loud: it’s been over a decade since you’ve actually had to keep yourself busy, and you don’t really know what to do with yourself that isn’t falling back into habits that sent you to prison in the first place. In Belle Reve, you’d had time but not freedom, and on missions you’d had a certain sense of freedom but not time. Strange and childish as it may sound, you also weren’t used to sharing Harcourt’s attention on a mission; well aware that it’s selfish of you to feel so jealous, you would allow yourself to justify it on occasion when you considered that for almost a full decade, she’s been the closest person to you. But now she's busy helping Economos and Adebayo and Murn with the part of the mission that required agents less prone to costumes and antics. So you, like a newly stitched-up Peacemaker, were essentially shooed away.
Left to your own devices…
And yes, you’d been awoken well before being able to get a full night’s sleep, but your uncomfortable nap at your desk while waiting for Peacemaker to return, followed by the ebb and flow of your powers in the hour you took to stitch him up, it filled you with this bizarre energy; you weren’t sure when you might crash, but for now you’re definitely awake.
Thankfully your phone rings, breaking your focus where you'd been staring intently at the local maps in their display in the back aisle of a convenience store; it had been found while you were walking, a distraction dressed up with intent, like it wasn’t completely aimless. It's been twenty minutes and you've barely moved from the middle of the aisle, scowling at the stand as you tried to convince yourself not to buy one. It had really been a losing battle. The customers have been stepping around you. None of the staff have felt the need to come and bother you.
Peacemaker’s wide, goofy smile greets you as you open your flip-phone and double check the caller ID.
"I think I hate having free time," is how you answered, taking this opportunity to out of your trance by the map display and head to the fridge, probably to ponder various drinks for another twenty minutes.
"No, I totally get that; it's weird, it's like I don't know what to do with myself!" Peacemaker, on the other end, immediately seems to understand where you're coming from, and you grin to yourself, phone to your ear as you pay for the drink. Socialising does wonders for getting you out of your head.
"Too many choices; it's like twenty new flavours have been invented since I was locked up," you pay for the drink, phone pressed secure between your ear and shoulder as you struggle to tap your ARGUS credit card. In no time you’re sitting curb side, watching the cars pass by without properly registering them, "walking down the junk food aisle just feels like I’m being bullied by the candy..." You open your drink, adding as a distracted aside; “its calling me out of touch…” When Peacemaker makes a noise of agreement is comes as a surprise; you’d half-forgotten he was there, and honestly hadn’t realised that was a sentiment anyone else might relate to, but nonetheless you cleared your throat, brightening your tone, “anyways, why'd you call? Everything okay?"
"Actually- so I was doing these face muscle exercises- these exercises for my face -" Peacemaker is chattering like his story isn’t already flagging that it’s going to be long-winded and bizarre. Despite how much you want to latch onto whatever the fuck is happening every few words, you restrain yourself, "like trying to pass the time, you know, listen to some music -"
"Come on, man!" There's an outburst on Peacemaker's end, something a little impatient and excited, "she really gonna fuck shit up with us?" You're getting the weirdest sense of deja vu hearing the voice, but can't seem to place it for the life of you.
"Dude, don't be weird," Peacemaker hissed to his companion, who called him a bitch, and said to just ask you.
"Fuck shit up in what way?" You asked, but before you could get a response you heard.
"Just put her on speaker; I'll do it -" and a rustle followed by protests from Peacemaker that were far quieter than his voice had just been, as if whoever now had the phone had absconded with it, "So Peacemaker says you'd be able to fuck around with explosives and shit and make them a ton more effective; do you wanna come blow shit up?" It comes out in a rush, and before you can even react, whoever your speaking to has forged on ahead, "I make a lot of the shit myself, or buy it, but if you- if your powers work the way he says they do, with my designs and your tune ups-"
"Can Peacemaker still hear me?" You cut him off, and it’s like you can almost feel the stranger’s enthusiasm drop.
"Yeah," he sighs clearly, disappointed that his convincing and excited spiel apparently fell on ungrateful ears, "you're on speaker."
"Either of you care to explain whatever this is in a way that clarifies if I’m being murdered this afternoon?”
"What?!" Peacemaker’s friend seemed genuinely surprised by your interpretation of the invite.
"I don't intend to murder you,” Peacemaker is trying very hard to keep his laughter from his voice as he pipes up on the call, “but even if I did, it’d pass the time, wouldn't it?" And though his friend is loudly objecting to the implications, it makes you laugh.
"It would,” you agreed “and it does sound safer than my thing…”
"You have a thing?"
"It was a worse thing,” you assured dismissively, “send me the coordinate to where you want to meet up and I'll-"
"Wait, weren’t we were picking her up?” Upon hearing his friend stage whisper, and despite trusting Peacemaker enough to be smart enough to not get you killed, you can't help but cackle with laughter.
"I'm so getting murdered in the woods!" You crow with absolute glee, mostly joking when you ask, "Peacemaker is your friend gonna murder me?"
"Probably not," his friend answers with an chipper and earnest kind of bluntness.
"Christ, dude," you hear Peacemaker mutter with exasperation, and you try to dial back your laughter, "Cujo where are you, we'll come get you."
"The curb outside of the," still snickering to yourself you glance over your shoulder at the sign above the store, "E-Z P-Z Mart." Tacky. Wrinkling your nose, you take another sip of your drink. Already it’s getting low; how far had you walked? Peacemaker lets you know they’ll be by in only a few minutes. When you hear his friend ask why he'd called you Cujo, he hangs up before you hear the answer he gives.
The ten-packs of cheap, latex gloves are in the same aisle as the maps, near the back, beside the disinfectant wipes and opposite the miscellaneous car-related trinkets and tools. At least you're lucid enough to be self-aware in this moment, or at least enough to know grabbing a map would be a terrible idea.
Amongst the memories you’ve kept, over a quarter are dedicated to one specific topic; dead drop locations all over the world, how you and opportunistic others like you, would receive contracts when you’d been starting out and weren’t sure who you could trust to keep you alive. Seven in Washington that you’d frequented. Three in Seattle alone. How far to the other four? How far to the ones in the next states over? Each point like a glowing red light approximating it’s location, on a map that existed only in your head, and couldn’t be used to get from Point A to Point B. For the first time in over a decade you find yourself with complete and utter freedom until you’ll be called in again… and your first instinct is to immediately return to being a hitman simply because you couldn’t stand being bored.
Grabbing a second drink for the road, you find yourself grinning as you step out into the sunshine; the moment you take to appreciate the chime of the door as something you hadn’t realised you’d missed while behind bars is interrupted by a maroon Sebring squealing up almost concerningly close beside you. Both the driver, and Peacemaker in the passenger seat, are in full costume, and while the driver’s costume even comes up to cover his face, and the windows appear to all be wound tightly shut, you can still hear their animated argument.
Peacemaker's wide, smug as all hell grin is a dead giveaway that he's being a bully, but it's the driver who's the loudest; again, you’re getting that weird familiarity with his voice, and you get the sense that you probably should have asked earlier, probably over the phone, who he was if you were going to be doing questionable shit in a remote area with only him and Peacemaker.
"One to ten," Peacemaker’s voice rises to be heard over the driver’s angry protests at the question, "answer the que- just- one to ten! How hard -?" Clearly, he is delighting in the driver’s audible anguish.
"Fucking zero man! Zero! Can you- shut up, man, stop being fucking weird about this!" When the driver looks out his window, he jumps at the sight of you peering back at him with a bemused expression. At least it makes Peacemaker laugh hard enough that he can’t continue to rib the driver as mercilessly as he had been. So you wave with a confused smile, only for the driver to barely wind his window down an inch, as if scared you’ll carjack him if given half a chance. In the passenger seat, Peacemaker is still incapacitated with laughter, and with the window open you can hear he’s gone past the point of noise entirely.
"You’re The Chaser?" It sounds more like verification than actual confusion, and you find your smile growing wider, endeared by his apparent caution, especially considering his passenger.
"The one and only," expression warm and bright, you still kept your voice low to avoid being overheard. A long moment passes; perhaps you'd have known why he’d momentarily frozen before properly settling back into his seat, but unfortunately, when it came to his face, his costume left almost everything to the imagination. All you can do is wait for the moment to pass, and try not to dwell on whether he’d seemed as tense when he’d pulled up, arguing with Peacemaker. After a beat, he jerks his head towards the back seat. Taking your cue, you quickly open the door and climb into the back seat.
"Can I call you something else?" As soon as you're in and the door’s closed, the driver takes off, out of the carpark.
"What do you mean?" You’re momentarily distracted while you struggle with your seatbelt.
"Instead of The Chaser," his tone is growing steadily lighter, and Peacemaker's laughter is dying down. However he then follows his query up, unprompted, with; "we only know of fourteen people surviving rabies -"
"Wh-" baffled by the non sequitur and finally buckled in, you sit forward in your seat, "I'm gonna put a pin in that for just a half second; who are you? How many Capes does this town have?"
"What d' you mean?" By now Peacemaker’s finally made it back to the conversation, and is looking between yourself and the driver with confusion, "this is Vij;” like he’s expected you to already know, “we were talking about him just this morning -"
It appears that your decision to not assume things in or about this weird little town, or Peacemaker’s place in it, has left you blindsides. What the fuck.
"You guys were talking about me?" Vigilante sounded genuinely touched by that, taking the moment in which they were stopped at a red light to tip his head to look over his shoulder at Peacemaker; you'd hazard a guess and say his expression was just as fond as his tone, at least until the car behind him honks, and he jumps in his seat, getting into gear.
"Yeah, you know, about our old dream, villain hit-lists," Peacemaker says like it's a reasonable thing for two people to casually discuss. Immediately Vigilante groans with anguish.
In the back seat, you're wondering if it'd end up unnecessarily escalating the situation if they noticed you trying to find some sort of weapon.
"What? Why would you do that?! Why would you- you told her about mine, didn't you? You mothetfucker -" Vigilante sighs, while Peacemaker arcs up in the passenger seat, all kinds of defensive. He's pulling off down a side road, and you wished you'd taken note of the name on the street sign.
"It came up organically, man! Why would I explain mine and not yours? Yours is the actual relevant one -!"
There's nothing in the back seat that's particularly useful, just a spare jug of water and a half-empty bottle of emergency motor oil beneath one seat; it's almost unnervingly clean now that you have to think about it. As you feel the car slowing down, feel it turning to start driving over gravel, you realise with another glance out the window that you're in the trailer park near Peacemaker's place. Never should have trusted Peacemaker just because you were bored, you’re practically kicking yourself, that motherfucker was going to let Vigilante murder you in the woods behind his house.
"Releva- fuck," Vigilante huffed with a defeated anger, "she definitely thinks I'm going to murder her in the woods now," he mutters ruefully, despite Peacemaker rolling his eyes and scoffing, "you definitely think I'm going to murder you in the woods, don’t you- was that always…?" When he glances over his shoulder to get a confirmation from you, he instead sees how you’ve pulled the back of the middle seat down and have managed to quickly discover the false bottom of his trunk, and the cases of weapons he stores there. Like a deer in the headlights, you freeze, your entire right arm in the trunk.
"You are for sure going to try and murder me in the woods," the panicked but honest agreement escapes you without you even meaning to. The car stops. In a flash you're out of your seatbelt and frantically shifting to reach into the trunk through the back-seat, clawing and angrily swearing as you finally found the handle of a weapon that hadn't been locked in a case.
"Chaser, come on," Peacemaker sounded exasperated. You realise your error with both arms at different angles in the awkward space, gloves slipping on the weapon's handle and failing to find purchase. Frantically, you hastily try and pluck your cotton gloves from each finger, cursing and frustrated by the snug fit that you usually were grateful for.
"Given the situation this is a fair response," surprisingly, Vigilante was quick to come to your defence, though even he must hear the less than reassuring implication in his words as he makes sure to add, "from your perspective, of course. I’m still not gonna kill you in the woods."
"That's why I said try-" you grunted as finally your bare hands closes around the handle of weapon -- hours spent in the dark trunk, every bump in the road, every time it sees light, a tactical hatchet all sleek and black and sharp and modern, the way Vigilante learns to flip it until he makes it look easy, making up for many foolish cuts he’d earned for his trouble, practice and precision and nights upon nights upon nights where it tastes bark, skills sharp and blade sharpened with a kitchen knife sharpener, being wielded carelessly, distractedly, covered in blood while Vigilante was digging through a cupboard under the sink for something to clean it off with and swearing as he berates himself for letting the blood dry, but the blood had been fresh and wet and the thump-gurgle-bloody nails weak for just a moment against it buried in their chest had been accompanied by an endorphins rush from Vigilante that it's like you can feel it through the axe, but it happens often, experiencing each time all at once is an overwhelming high that goes as soon as it had arrived, and he'd spent time practising in costume to make sure he knew how to use it, but there's anticipation and joy in the short time before it's with his equipment, in a corner of his bedroom and he's excited and uncoordinated and untrained when he picks it up and swings it around because he likes how it feels, and he looks like a kid at Christmas when he holds it for the first time in the military surplus store - and everything, all the way back to the damp, secure earth its steel was originally mined from, has found a home in your mind in all of half a second. In that same instant, you feel the intrinsic, uncanny understanding and power that runs through your muscles, foreign and familiar all at once. Your body and mind both understand the weapon in completely different ways, instinct connecting the mind's intent to the body's borrowed muscle memory; holistic and lethal mastery in only a fraction of a second.
As they watch, both in the front seats see the instant all the frantic tension leaves your body.
"Is everything alright?" There's genuine concern in Vigilante's voice, and you take a long moment to extract yourself, where you'd done a very good job of attempting to cram your torso through to the trunk, despite how counter-productive it really was in hindsight, and the tactical hatchet, from where it was caught on a weapon case,
When Vigiliante’s question gets no immediate response, he turns and punches Peacemaker in the shoulder; from the back, all that can be seen now is your calm body language, as your arms are continuing to carefully shift in the trunk, out of sight.
"Dude, tell her I'm not going to murder her in the woods!"
"You were never going to murder me in the woods," the sudden confidence in your voice is… jarring, "neither of you were." Vigilante breathes a loud sigh of relief.
"Thank you -!"
"Not because I trust Peacemaker,” you clarified bluntly, “though I can say that if it makes you feel better," finally, with a triumphant exclamation, you dislodge the hatchet and bring it back through, holding it’s handle tightly in one hand, pushing the back of the middle seat into place with the other.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Peacemaker's tone is hostile, but you've got this pleased little smile on your face, back to sitting properly in your seat with a contented sigh, and the hatchet across your lap. One hand is on the handle, the other's fingertips gentle against the black, metal head of the weapon.
Your smile grows wider, each moment a sharper contrast from the frantic look you'd sported only moments ago. Both Peacemaker and Vigilante were awkwardly half perched, half turned in their seats to look at you. If you could see Vigilante's expression, you think he'd be scowling like Peacemaker.
You actually giggled, couldn’t help yourself as if amused that they'd missed such an obvious answer.
"Because you couldn't," said like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
It takes a few long moments for the statement to settle, Peacemaker glancing uneasily at Vigilante as if to gauge his reaction.
"But now I think I have to, to prove you wrong," Vigilante counters, still with a blunt sincerity. For a very long moment its as if the world slows down the few seconds in which you sit forward; smile growing impossibly large and laced with a sharp challenge, you find yourself trying to look intently through his red visor. He refuses to back down.
"You can certainly try," you murmur, tone far too enticing to be encouraging your own murder like this.
There's a hunger roars to life after what feels like an age lying dormant, a challenge in your eyes now it feels as if this is a chance to properly prove yourself. While you relished being underestimated, it's been years since that set-up has had the proper pay-off you craved.
"Who knows,” Peacemaker huffs, tone childish and irate, “maybe you will get murdered in the woods," clearly either too bored or uncomfortable in the car, or with your sudden ego, to stand another moment in the car. The bubble of this moment pops with the car door opening, outside world rushing in.
But you can’t feel it.
The door slams shut but you and Vigilante keep up this unnerving game of chicken for just a beat longer, before his head tilts forward and you have the distinct impression that he's looking at the hatchet.
And you, fingers curled tight around its handle where you’re clutching it in your lap, grin as you replay on a loop in your mind the endorphin-rush moments of impact and blood, and the triumph as it was always felt in the aftermath, victorious. When he finally speaks, his voice is low enough to not escape the car, while the hatchet in your hands practically sings about him to you.
"Chaser, seriously, what the fuck?”
Dots connect like lightning, A to B, six words and you're gleefully jumping to conclusions like you consider it exercise.
What a delightfully petty way for Adrian Chase to pick his nemesis!
The car jolts; Peacemaker opens the trunk.
"Am I still your nemesis?" You asked with sudden intrigue, barely aware of the clatter coming from the trunk.
However, the question is unexpected enough that Vigilante finally leans back, out of your space, out of this shared intensity in which you’d had him caught. For the briefest, triumphant moment, despite the red, warped glass of his visor, you think you catch a proper glimpse of his eyes, if only for the moment you can see the surprise in them. The rest of reality fades back in around you, awaiting his response.
"You're not- I don't do nemeses," and he's saying it as he's opening the door, like he's letting himself breathe again in the open. You're swift to follow suit, both of you by the open trunk and looking at the few remaining weapons and cases. As you hear the door of the trailer open, you see Peacemaker carrying a cooler, but no weapons; while you’re concerned, Vigilante seems to be unconcerned, waiving it off as Peacemaker disappears into the forest, clearly already knowing the way.
“Nemesis implies,” he hands you a bandolier loaded with various, hand-held explosives as he speaks, which you loop over your neck and gesture for something else, “like, a reoccurring thing; any hero with a nemesis is just a pussy making excuses for why they can’t finish the job." There’s such conviction in his words that you can tell he’s spent a long time believing them and trying to convince others too. Half-thought teasing questions dance along your tongue, but just this once you decide to simply stay quiet, listening when you can tell he lives by what he’s saying.
Because you know he’s a man of his word; you can feel his sense of accomplishment in the back of your mind as you replay the moment he separates a man’s head from his neck. A job well done. You tell yourself you can respect that, that you can ignore how you’d gotten yourself all worked up in only a few minutes, like you hadn’t just found a challenge in Vigilante that finally felt interesting.
Never ever in your life would you admit to thinking the words Unrequited Nemesis, however you find yourself deciding that you’ve hit a point of diminishing returns from holding the hatchet; as long as you’re aware of why you want to be his nemesis, this unknowing rejection would make you melancholy and lead to delusions of importance.
Your gloves, inside out and half crumpled, are the only things remaining in the hollow-looking trunk now. It feels like they’re mocking you. Vigilante, his hand on the lid of the trunk, about to close it, is hesitating too, and looking at those fucking gloves.
“Do you wanna get those?”
“Yeah,” you sigh with defeat. The ego trip had been fun while it had been worth it; “can you take this? I’ll grab my gloves and close the trunk -” and you offer him the hatchet.
“I- you can just put it down if you want,” he suggests with an brightness that seems almost forced, but he still lowers his hand from the trunk, “if it helps,” he chuckles awkwardly, “emotional support hatchet,” something about the joke doesn’t quite land right, but even so you find yourself smiling. After everything that’s happened today, you’re glad you’re remembering how to feel like yourself again; it’s easy now to regard him with a sincere warmth in your expression, offering the hatchet to him with ease.
“Believe me, I’ve just gone through all five stages of grief and come out accepting that to build a little trust, I gotta hand a hatchet to the guy who put my name at the top of his hitlist.”
When he straightens up with what you can immediately read as surprise, you wonder if he knows how loudly he telegraphs his every feeling. It’s stupidly endearing.
Carefully, finally, he takes it, like he’s worried about spooking you with a weapon in your hands.
There’s always a sense of relief whenever you finally let go of something and lose it from your mind. It’s not that the information is painful or uncomfortable, at least most of the time, and having new muscle memories doesn’t mean they’re suddenly tense; information, like everything else in life, sat on that sliding scale of good and bad. Even with information you were glad to have, the moment after letting go was always refreshing, like shaking an Etch-A-Sketch. So you put on your gloves and return to having their pleasant history, meticulously hand crafted, their materials ethically sourced, something you knew you could stand to have in the back of your mind at all times, and shut the trunk with a cheerful thud.
Vigilante seems to be confident in the direction he leads you both, following after Peacemaker, so you’re more than happy to fall into step beside him.
“I don’t know if you believe me, but I hope you do, because I mean it, I super-pinky-promise that I won’t murder you in the woods,” Vigilante’s tone demands to be taken seriously, as if to impress upon you how genuine he is, “I wouldn’t hurt any of Peacemaker’s co-workers; if I killed you and then something fucks up for him that you could have stopped, except oh no you can’t because I killed you?” The explanation comes out as a rush, followed by a long sigh as he shakes his head at the very thought, “I’d feel super shitty about that; so you’re safe,” and he looks at you; you think you can hear his smile in the warmth of his voice, “promise.” Any other person might be unnerved by his upbeat tone in this moment, but you beam, glad for his honesty.
“I won’t murder you in the forest either,” voice firm and sincere, you try and match him in this moment, following it up with the admission; “because for what it’s worth, while, yeah, I enjoy my job immensely, I’m not going to lie and pretend I don’t, it’s always been just a job,” you shrugged, easily, explanation carefully casual. “Senseless acts of violence actually make my skin crawl; this has never been a hobby to me,” as a wry smile curled at the edge of your lips, you cast your gaze to Vigilante, walking beside you, “so as long as there’s no price on your head, I think I’ll let you keep it,” for a long few moments, your gaze is transfixed, watching the hatchet in his grip by his side, how he’s holding it, secure and firm, the power that he’d have while wielding it, power he would have worked to build up, to train, to practice; a hunger, a roar from deep within your chest, demands to see him fight, to fight him, to meet this challenge head on and dig your nails in -
“What’s the price?” His curiosity snaps you from your thoughts, and you feel somewhat like you’ve been, gaze immediately flicking from the hatchet to his look to his visor, “if someone were to name a price, what’d be the price if I was the mark?” And as you consider the question, you can’t stop yourself from smiling sharply.
“It’d depend on how much I like you.”

CM/MGG Only One Bed Challenge
Tumblr media
The following are prompts including the Only One Bed Trope!
This event is over (Masterlist of Fics here), but you are welcome to use any of these prompts. If you would like to be added to the existing Masterlist of entries, please check out the Rules below!
Open Prompts for the Challenge:
Character/Reader wakes up from a nightmare and the other comforts them.
Reader and Character hate each other, but the heater is broken and it’s freezing.
Reader is visiting Character, who insists they take Character‘s bed. Reader ends up with Character on the couch anyway.
Reader/Character can’t sleep, and discusses how they heard cuddling with a loved one can make it easier to fall asleep.
You just moved in with Character and you can’t put your bed together because it’s missing pieces. Character let’s you sleep with them.
Fake dating plan is almost thwarted by everyone expecting you to share a bed.
College!AU where you think you’re crawling into bed with your friend at a party but it’s actually/Character, the person you’ve been crushing on, who is too scared to kick you out.
Reader is a little tipsy/drunk. Character takes them to their apartment. Reader insists they sleep in the same bed.
Reader/Character is sick, and the other tries to take care of them. It works, but now the person is asleep on their lap and oh well I guess they’re stuck there.
Part of your bedtime routine surprises Character.
Someone keeps spouting random facts as you try to fall asleep.
“That’s it. I’m sleeping on the floor.”
Reader and Character are snowed in at a mutual friend's cabin because they got too drunk and stayed longer than they should have. The only problem is, there's only one tiny guest bedroom and they have to squeeze in together to stay warm.
Reader having to clean their sheets but their sheets aren't done by the time it's bed time. Character offers them their bed.
Reader and Character are camping, and one of their tents tears.
Anything else you can think of! Let me know if you have a request you'd like me to add to the list (or tag me in your fic of your original idea!)
Rules below the cut!
The fic can be a Reader insert, or a character/character ship. It can feature any Criminal Minds character or any character played by Matthew Gray Gubler (Chip, Raymond, Lesley, etc).
Tag me in the fic, or send it to me in a Direct Message. It can be already written, or you can write it just for the challenge - I'm collecting both! You can also tag it "#mentioningmargins" which is a tag I track.
The fic can be any genre, but ONLY send me smut if your bio states you are 18+. I DO NOT WANT smut written by minors. Ever. At all. I will check. Platonic ships and pure, fluffy fics are 100% allowed.
Please include Content Warnings and a one-sentence Summary of the fic in your post.
Have fun!
*Also, side note: I am also considering collecting fics that feature the Anti-Only-One-Bed trope, which means that there actually are multiple beds, but the characters choose to stay in one (ex. my fic Astraphobia). If you have any of these, let me know!

Tumblr media
“Are you sure you don’t need a ride home?”
Jeonghan came up beside you, rolling the small suitcase you had taken on your week long business trip beside you putting a gentle hand on top of your shoulder making you jump. “No it’s fine Seungcheol said he would pick me up.” You nodded grabbing the strap of your falling purse and placing it onto your shoulder again. “Bomi is waiting for you, so you should go home.” You smiled fishing your phone from your purse hoping to see the on my way text from your fiancé. Instead it sat empty with the picture of you and Seungcheol the day he proposed staring back at you.
“She’s staying at my mom’s. I won’t pick her up until morning.” Jeonghan quirked an eyebrow watching as you stared at your phone screen hopelessly. Your grip getting tighter and tighter each second that passes. “I can take you home, it's really no big deal.” He reassured and moved his hand away from your shoulder before stuffing it in the pocket of his long black coat.
You ignored his offer unlocking your phone and clicking on the message app, revealing the thread of texts between you and Seungcheol. The last one he had sent before he ghosted you for the remainder of the week was that he loved you and that he would see you at the airport when you got back. That was on Wednesday, it was now Friday and he was nowhere to be found. With a deep sigh to keep yourself from growing frustrated you sent him a quick text asking him if he was on his way before locking up your phone again and throwing it into your purse.
“I’m sure he’s stuck in traffic. I'll be fine, you should go home, you haven’t gotten any sleep because of the time differences.” You waved a hand dismissing all his offers before grabbing your suitcase handle and rolling it closer to your body.
There was no doubt in your mind that something was wrong. That something had been seriously wrong for the past three months as Seungcheol started distancing himself from you more and more each passing day. You figured it was the stress of his new very taxing job as well as the wedding planning and the bi-monthly trips to the New York firm that Joshua had you and Jeonghan going too. You could only hope that it was just a small bump in the road. That’s everything would go back to normal now that you wouldn’t have to go on another one of these trips until February.
“Last chance, take it or leave it I’ll even throw in a burger from that fast food place that you like.” Jeonghan winked, bumping your shoulder against his. “I know you’re hungry, you didn’t eat any of the airplane food.” His voice lowered with concern and your grip on your suitcase handle only got tighter.
He was right you were starving but you were looking forward to going to the 24-Hour diner by your and Seungcheol’s loft just like you had for the past three years whenever either one of you got back from a business trip. It had become some sort of tradition in your relationship, but now as you searched the crowd for your missing raven haired fiancé you weren’t sure if you even wanted the M&M pancakes the two of you always shared. Or the burger Jeonghan was offering because something was wrong and your gut was sending the warning flare signal all throughout your body.
“Temping, but I’ll pass. Now go home before I call Joshua and beg him to let me switch partners again.”
“You’ve been trying for five years darling, and look at where it’s gotten us.” He smirked, taking his hands out of his coat pocket and placing them on top of his suitcase handle. “But since its two in the morning and Joshua would murder us if you called him for such a trivial thing. I will leave, but I’ll stay close by just in case Seungcheol doesn’t show up.”
You rolled your eyes before playfully shoving his shoulder causing him to stagger back dramatically, a scoff leaving his lips. “Yoon Jeonghan go home, I’m serious.” You crossed your arms in front of you as he raised his hands up in surrender.
“Fine, but text me when you get home okay. I don’t like leaving you alone at this time at night.”
“I’ll be fine, he’s just stuck in traffic.” You said. Jeonghan shook his head before turning around and waving you goodbye. His face full of concern as he started walking away, carefully dodging the small crowds of people that had gathered in reunion. You raised your hand and waved back until he disappeared out of the airport.
It was two in the morning, there couldn’t possibly be any traffic but it was the excuse you decided to go with because it was better than admitting the truth. Something was wrong and it terrified you knowing that you had an ideas as to what it was.
Tumblr media
The second your apartment building came into view your stomach dropped.
You had waited outside of the airport for thirty minutes. Texting Seungcheol repeatedly asking where he was. The last message he had sent to you on Wednesday haunted you as you read the words he had written over and over again whenever you sent him a new message.
I love you.
The doubt slowly crept in as you shoveled the fallen snow around the concrete pavement with the toe of your boots. Did he still love you?
For months, Seungcheol had been acting strange. His smile didn’t reach either side of his face, he didn’t laugh at your obscure little habits or antics. He didn’t look at you like you were the delicate flower amongst the sea of dead weeds. He was there with you, sharing the same roof but he wasn’t present in any sense of the word. Every time he came home he ignored you and went straight to shower or bed. He had started to pick fights with you more often. Before you left he had blown up on you in the middle of the night because you had left the bedroom window open. He had never once minded before because he knew you did it on purpose, so that when the two of you slept he would hold you closer than usual to keep you warm.
Though instead of holding you close that night he had yelled at you and went to sleep on the couch. Leaving you alone with tears pooling in your eyes and in the cold. You had felt that exact way as you waited for your uber to arrive and now that you were standing in front of your apartment building, gripping your suitcase handle as you pathetically competed in a staring contest with the entrance. The gnawing in your stomach growing to the point where you felt nauseous.
You contemplated calling another uber and just have the driver keep you company as you settled your overflowing thoughts. Over thinking never got you anywhere you wanted. And right now your head was a pool of doubt consumed by all the scenarios you didn’t want. For your sake and his you hoped he had fallen asleep waiting for your plane to land because if any of the scenarios that were currently playing in your head ad you made your way into the building and towards the elevator; you knew you would never be able to recover it.
With a shaky finger you pressed the number four in the keypad, watching as the elevator doors closed, shutting you out from the outside world. In seconds when the same doors opened again, revealing the narrow hallway that led to your studio apartment, you’d finally know the truth. One you had been ignoring for months on end because you knew, no you hoped Seungcheol still loved you.
Maybe he still did. Maybe you were overreacting but you had this horrible habit at never trusting your gut when it was always right and something deep inside you was telling you that you were. That what you had perceived was happening was the truth and that now all you needed to do was rip it apart like a bandaid. Dwell in the pain for a while and then move on like it never happened.
After all he had started to act like you didn’t exist anymore.
The elevator doors opened at an agonizing pace, the scene playing out almost too perfectly that it was nauseating. You didn’t even have to step out and walk a couple of steps to the right for you to see what was happening right in front of you. Seungcheol’s eyes bulged out of their sockets. His mouth falling agape before the doors could finish doing what they were meant to do and the anger inside of you built to the point you were sure fire was coming out of your ears.
You were right.
In front of you stood Seungcheol with bags under his eyes, his hand encased with someone’s that wasn’t yours. She was pretty, prettier than you could ever be, but that wasn’t what had you fuming. It was the fact that she was here in your building, in your hallway. You wondered how many times she had been here before reliving this same scenario. You wondered how many times she sat on your couch pressed to his side? How many times had she laid in your bed underneath him? How many times she had used your bathroom along with your things after nights of utmost pleasure? Seungcheol was a good lover, you'd give him that much but he had always been a shitty liar so he had to have known that whatever fantasy world he was living in, would come to an unpleasant end.
“Excuse me.” You said gripping your suitcase handle until your knuckles turned white and walked past the lovely couple. You could feel the panic radiating out of Seungcheol’s pores and you tried to keep yourself from laughing the bitter laugh that was bubbling up in the back of your throat. The warning Jeonghan had given you three years ago when Soonyoung had first introduced you to Seungcheol hummed softly in the back of your mind as you approached your wretched apartment.
“Be careful, he’s not someone that’s capable of love.”
Tumblr media
Your body had gone into autopilot the minute you stepped out of the elevator and entered the place you once called home. You didn’t notice the spent sheets lazily thrown in the overflowing laundry basket nor the messily knocked over wine bottles on the coffee table. Your main priority in your fevered state was to get as much as you could before Seungcheol came back with the excuses he came up with during the five minutes it took for the old elevator to reach the fourth floor.
When the sound of the door shutting rang through the heavy air surrounding your old apartment you knew you had failed. You stopped dead in your tracks dropping the pile of clothes you had chaotically fished out of one of your dresser drawers and met Seungcheol’s unreadable expression. For some reason, even though you had a hole in your chest. You didn’t feel any sadness, just anger. Seungcheol’s indifference smugly painted across his face only made you boil inside.
“What are you doing?” Seungcheol’s voice sounded richotteing of the plain walls and into your chest making the hole inside of you grow deeper. The two of you stood in the middle of the messy hallway. Clothes that didn’t belong you where all over the room in what seemed to be a hasty frenzy. It was like he had started to replace you already with someone who in his eyes was obviously better than in you every syllable of the word.
“That’s a stupid question Seungcheol.” You scoffed and leaned down to pick up the pile of clothes you had dropped. “I’m obviously not wanted here anymore so I’m leaving.” You rolled your eyes and walked past him bumping your shoulder against his, making him stagger back slightly. You reached the dining room table where you had sprawled open your suitcase and stuffed in the clothes in your arms before turning to face him.
Your mind must have been playing tricks on you because you saw a small flash of fear dance around his irises before it was replaced with the same indifference you were met with before. “Don’t go, I can explain.” He closed the gap between the two of you. He raised his arms hesitating before putting his warm palms against your shoulders. The air in your lungs caught itself in the back of your throat when you felt the heaviness of his touch seep through the cotton of your winter coat. Now that it had been corrupted by the touch you had once burned brightly underneath, you wanted nothing more than to to peel it off as if it were your second skin.
“Don’t touch me Seungcheol, I don’t want your excuses.” You spat out slapping his hands and walking past him.
“She doesn’t mean anything to me please let’s just sit down and we can talk about it.” He voiced, the broken lint cracking through his poker face. He begged following you into the room. He cringed at his clothes hanging out from closed drawers, the unmade bed and the overpowering smell of roses that didn’t belong to you.
You ignored him opening up another drawer grabbing everything that belonged to you and leaving behind everything that didn’t. “There’s nothing to talk about you cheated on me and probably have been for months now. The damage is done. End of story Seungcheol.”  You slammed the drawer shut and moved past him, he caught your arm forcing you to turn around at lightning speed. Water was now spilling down the corner of his eyes as he finally realized that the fantasy he had been living under was simply just a fantasy. That his reality was staring back at him with dull and broken eyes.
It broke him.
You had hurt him in the same ways he had been hurting you. At least that’s what he told himself three months ago when you had left with Jeonghan to New York for work again. When he walked into the bar and met her three beers in. When he brought her home that night and all the other nights you were away. You were cheating too so why should he be the only to suffer if he could make you suffer the same he was.
“Does it matter, you’ve been cheating on me longer than I have been on you.” He spat letting your arm go making you stagger. Your back hit the closet door as you stared at him in disbelief. You blinked rapidly making sure you had heard him right, a nervous laugh bubbling in the back of your throat.
“I-I’m not and I have never cheated on you what the hell Seungcheol.” You clutched the few t-shirts you were holding against your chest, “Where is this coming from?”
“Jeonghan, you’ve been seeing Jeonghan behind my back for months now.” He yelled making you flinch. He raised his arms before bringing them down and running his hands desperately through his jet black hair. “I’m not an idiot, I saw the texts where he told you that you couldn’t tell anyone your secret.” He sat down at the edge of the bed, head in his hands as he tugged at his roots. The weight of his illicit affair finally weighed heavy on his shoulders.
You threw the shirts you were holding in his direction, missing him completely, “You are anidiot Seungcheol, I’ve never once kissed or slept with Jeonghan before. He just got divorced, his wife left him with a four year old. It’s none of your business but the big secret we kept was him taking his daughter to work when Joshua was out of town because she was sick.” You yelled, the anger you had felt for him earlier spilling out of your ears. “God, why didn’t you just come and talk to me about it, why did you have to go and ruin everything?”
Revenge was never sweet and he was getting a taste of his own medicine.
Seungcheol had fucked up he knew it the second his lips met the women he had met at the bar. Yet, he had somehow convinced himself that he was right all along. Now as he heard the sincerity spill out of your perfect lips he realized how wrong he had been for three months on end. He had ruined a future so sweet it gave him toothache whenever he thought about it and nothing he could say or do would fix the damage he had done.
“I never want to see you again.” You whispered, bringing your hand up to your chest as you slowly removed the diamond ring from your ring finger, the last thing keeping you connected to him. He had made you a promise one you never saw him fullfilling.
Almost as if on instinct, Seunghceol raised his tear stained face. The panic ran through his once soft features as you placed the ring he had given you on top of the wooden dresser. It was over, he had known it the morning after he had sinned.
He’d have to endure the consequences of his actions by himself because you were two feet out the door with almost all of your belongings including his heart.
Tumblr media
“I think the coffee machine is broken, again.” Jeonghan spoke as he walked into your shared office with two styrofoam cups, “I got us hot chocolate instead.” He boasted proudly as he set the steaming cup on top of your desk.
The moon had been larger than usual tonight, so, as Jeonghan honorably offered himself to go get the two of you some coffee from the machine in the employees lounge. You had taken it upon yourself to give your brain a well deserved break after hours of looking over the cases Joshua had given you and Jeonghan before he left earlier.
Joshua was quite possibly the best boss you could ever ask for. He gave out paid vacations to all his favorite employees, which was all of them. And gave some of the best advice known to men. But he was also sneaky and did possibly everything in his power to keep you and Joenghan at the office after hours and alone. You weren’t sure what kind of game he was playing nor had you cared at first but after Jeonghan’s nasty divorce. His game became even more obvious. You had called him out on it one afternoon when it was just the two of you in the employee lounge. With a knowing smirk he had refuted your claim. Though when he walked out with a jump in his step and whistling an unfamiliar tune you knew you had been right and that he wasn’t going to stop his scheming any time soon.
His wingman tendencies became more heightened when he had noticed your missing engagement ring three days ago. Joshua had cornered you in his office before closing that night causing you to embarrassingly break down in one of his lounge chairs in front of his desk. Since then he had given you and Jeonghan an unbearable amount of work and it made you feel terrible.
Jeonghan had a four year old that needed all his undivided attention. Everyday Jeonghan would rush to pick her up from school, sometimes leaving work unfinished when he realized he was running a few minutes late. Most of the time he brought her back to the office when his mother or sister were too busy with their own lives to look after her for a few hours. She would end her days falling asleep in her uncomfortable school uniform on the couch of yours and Jeonghan’s office. He then would carefully move her to the couch in Soonyoung’s office so your baseless bickering wouldn’t disturb her peaceful slumber. When you brought up your concern to your lovely boss he had simply brushed it off because apparently Jeonghan didn’t mind. Though the miniscule stress lines breaking through Jeonghan’s face and the light bags under his eyes indicated otherwise.
“You’re thinking again, is it Seungcheol. I know something happened because you haven’t been wearing your ring lately...and you haven’t complained once about working overtime...” Jeonghan’s voice sounded causing you to plant your feet back onto Earth’s surface. “you can tell me if anything’s wrong. Joshua’s usually the one with top tier advice but I can try my hand at it. So go on what stupid fight did the two of you get into this time?” He finished leaning back in his desk chair, arms crossed in front of him as he eyed you closely.
“You should go home, I can finish up here. Bomi needs her bed...you need your bed.” You sighed swirling the steam from your hot chocolate over your index finger. Jeonghan was the only one who didn’t know about Seungcheol’s affair. It wasn’t like many people knew just your parents, Joshua and Soonyoung since you were staying over at his place for the time being. But Jeonghan didn’t know and you didn’t want him to know. He wasn’t the biggest fan of your ex fiance and he had warned you numerous times, but you didn’t listen.
After everything you had gone through an I told you so from your best friend would be the unpleasant cherry on top.
“Stop changing the subject. He’s been calling you non stop for hours and you’ve ignored him. I don’t really care about what happened because I’m sure it’s nothing, but your ringtone is driving me crazy.” He joked dramatically, picking up his own cup of vending machine hot chocolate and brought it up to his lips.
You placed your palm on top of your cup, trapping in the steam. The heat danced around your cold palm warming you up before you officially turned to face your nosey partner in the crime. “I left him.” You breathed out. Jeonghan’s eyes grew wide as saucers as he uncrossed his arms and slowly rolled himself and his chair around his desk and towards yours. “He had been seeing someone else for months and I caught them the day we came back from New York.”
“I knew I should’ve taken you home that night.” He grumbled placing both his hands on either side of your chair turning you to face him. Your panicked expression met his angry eyea causing chills to run up your spine. “He had been acting like an asshole lately and I knew something was wrong. I just told myself not to get involved because I knew it would piss you off, but now I wish I did.” He took your hands in his and placed them on top of your lap. You could feel him shaking and it reminded you of the day Bomi’s mother had left the two of them. The anger he was feeling now you had felt it then too.
“Jeonghan it’s okay, it’s my fault I should’ve listened to you when you said he wasn’t a good person then and I should’ve said something the minute I suspected something was wrong. I was just too delusional living in my own world and planning my wedding that I was afraid of being right.”
He gripped your hands tightly nd shook his head. “Don’t ever say that, it’s not your fault, he hurt you. He choose to fuck someone else not once but for months right?” You nodded biting your bottom lip hard enough to almost draw blood as an attempt to keep yourself from spilling tears. You had cried enough nights over Seungcheol. He didn’t deserve your tears nor your heartbreak.
“He thought I was cheating on him with you.”
Jeonghan chuckled, shaking his head before letting out a deep disappointing sigh. “Where are you staying, not with him right?” He laced your fingers with his and placed your hands on his lap.
“With Soonyoung he lives the closest to my old place so I just ran to him.”
“Soonyoung knew before me?”
“And Joshua and my parents.”
Jeonghan looked up towards the ceiling taking a deep breath. “How are your parents?”
“Dad wants to kill him, mom has been trying to calm him down the last few days before I move in with them for the time being.”
“I knew I liked your dad for a reason. Might have to call him tomorrow so we can plan our crime.” Jeonghan smirked, trapping you and your chair between his legs. The last time the two of you had been this close was when he had cried in your arms on yours and Seungcheol’s couch, after he came home to find Bomi alone in her room with divorce papers on her dresser and all of his ex wife’s belongings gone. It had made your heart race then but you had blamed it on your anger. Now as you stared into his warm eyes with your heart against the base of your throat you thought that maybe you had been wrong then.
“And mom and I will hold the two of you back, if not we won’t be visiting you guys in jail.”
“I won’t go to jail. I’m a hot shot lawyer, haven’t lost a case yet I think I can represent myself and your dad and win.” He winked. He had started to lean in closer. The sensation of thumbs running soothingly across the palm of your hands didn’t help your beating heart.
“Maybe this is the case that will finally bring you back down to Earth.” You shoved him lightly as an effort to make space between the two of you. Your efforts were deemed as unsuccessful as he didn’t budge.
You and Jeonghan silently stared at each other and you hoped he couldn’t hear the hitches in your breathing. Slowly, he leaned in and before you could process what was happening his lips were on yours catching you by surprise. He moved them slowly, warming you up until you finally caved in and kissed him back. He smiled letting go of your hands and placed them on top of your knees, trailing them up your thighs until they found purchase against your hips and brought you close. He stopped kissing you for a second, giving you the choice to stop but when you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him close, kissing him feverishly, he responded with the same amount of heat you were giving him.
Year’s ago at an old musty bar in New York, Jeonghan had confessed that he had once harbored deep feelings for you. It was also the day you found out he was engaged to Bomi’s mom and the day you choose to push your feelings for him aside and move on. Tonight, those dormant feelings returned, along with the fire that accompanied them. You were desperate and needy to act up on them and now that you could, you didn’t want to stop. The feeling of his long crooked fingers traveling up thighs and pushing the fabric of your cream colored sweater dress up with them, made you want him more.
“W-Why...did you wear tights today?” He groaned and whispered against your lips making you giggle. He rested his hands against your butt, giving it an experimental squeeze before guiding you onto his lap.
“It’s winter, I don’t want to die of frostbite.”  You smiled down at him before pecking his lips repeatedly. Your body had gone untouched for months but it felt like it was burning brightly underneath the light of the moonlight.
“I can just keep you warm.” He winked one of his hands traveling to the front of your body. His finger teasingly playing with the hem of your black sheer tights, itching to make you feel loved and beautiful just like you deserved.
You shook your head at his innuendo before leaning down to kiss him again. Just when your lips were about to connect with his, Seungcheol’s ringtone started ringing. Jeonghan groaned in annoyance. “I told you your ringtone was annoying me.” The arm balacinging you on his lap pulled you closer. He attached his lips on to your neck again, biting down on your earlobe, a tiny almost inaudible moan escaped your lips. He let go of the hem of your leggings, the band slightly ricochetting of your skin making you suck in a breath. He retreated his lips and smirked before leaning over your body and grabbing your ringing phone, Seungcheol’s contact name blinking on the screen of your home page.
“Answer him angel.” He said handing you your phone before pecking your lips lightly.
“W-What.” You took your phone in your hands and stared down at Seungcheol’s smiling face.
“You said he thought we were seeing each other behind his back. Why don’t we prove his theory sweetheart.” Jeonghan took your phone and pressed the answer button an evil glint glimmering behind his eyes, “this way I don’t have to commit murder.”
Tumblr media
“B-Baby I’m sorry for what I did and for what I said this morning p-please come home.” Seungcheol’s desperate voice came in through the speaker of your phone. Jeonghan sat back smugly holding on to you tightly as he urged you to speak.
You swallowed thickly before opening your mouth, his mouth coming into contact with your cheek while he slowly raised your dress. “I-I’m not coming back Seungcheol, you fucked up.” Your arm around his neck loosened up. He brought your dress over head and threw it off to the side.
“I-I know, I-I know but I love you so much. I promise it won’t happen again just please come h-home.” Seungcheol’s voice breaks at the end making Jeonghan roll his eyes. There was not a doubt in your mind that Seungcheol was being as honest as he could be but he had broken your trust. He had chosen to sleep with someone in your shared home on your shared bed instead of sharing his falsely created suspicions with you.
“Cheol, I’m sorry,” Jeonghan’s hand trailed up your bare back and unhooked your bra. A small inaudible gasp left your mouth at the feeling of your freed your breasts, his mouth watering as his need to please grew. “I-I don’t trust you anymore.” He wrapped his lips around your nipple, swirling his tongue around it slowly. Your phone fell from your hand and onto your laps. You arched your back, pulling his head closer, your fingers hastily finding the top button of his dress shirt. Seungcheol was long forgotten as you quickly unbuttoned Jeonghan’s shirt and pushed it off his shoulders. The smoothness of his heated skin, underneath your palms made you desperate to feel more of him against you.
“I’ll do anything I just need you to come back, you’re my everything.” Seungcheol all but begged as Jeonghan released your nipple and grabbed your phone from where it had fallen. He placed it on our desk before standing up and sitting you on top of it. He leaned down running his tongue over the shell of your ear, giving your temple a slight kiss, “keep talking to him angel, let him know I’m here that he lost the best thing he could ever have.” He whispered before leaving kisses down your body and pushing your legs open.
Seungcheol was rambling but you were so focused and in tune with how soft Jeonghan’s lips and hands felt against your body that you had forgotten about him.
Jeonghan kneeled down in front of you, sending you a wink before grabbing the crotch of your tights and ripping it apart, “Jeonghan what the fuck?” You yelled and lightly flicked his forehead making him laugh.
Seungcheol stopped his incoherent rambling “Jeonghan is there?” The venom laced in his voice was prominent which only made Jeonghan laugh making his presence obvious and known. They were friends once, had gone to school and law school together. Had even talked about opening up their own law firm together after graduation. But Seungcheol had betrayed Jeonghan in ways you didn’t know as neither of them liked to talk about it. They had only tolerated each other because of back when Seungcheol was still your fiance and Jeonghan was only your coworker. Obviously that line had been crossed tonight the second you opened your mouth and Jeonghan’s hands found yours.
“Umm, I mean Joshua left us a lot of paperwork so we--”
“I’m going to make love to her and treat her the way she deserves to be treated.” Jeonghan spoke, cutting you off. He stood up, his hands planted in between your legs. He sent you a knowing look before moving your panties to the side. His index finger moved up your slit, a sound of approval left his mouth when he felt how wet you were. “She’s so wet, I bet if I wanted I could just slip right in and she’d be so tight around me.”
“Jeonghan, mmh...stop.” You parted your legs further, going against your own words. There was just something about having Seungcheol on the other side of the line as someone else had their hands all over your body that turned you on even more. Maybe it was some sick form of revenge, but you were ready to succumb to Jeonghan completely if he continued to touch in the way you had been craving for months now. The vibrator he had jokingly gotten for you as your secret santa gift three years ago, had not been enough. You needed more.
“I don’t think you want me to angel,” he inserted his finger inside of you. A choked moan left your parted lips as you arched your back. “It’s a shame you fucked up Seungcheol, I bet she looks so pretty when she cums.”
“I was right. I knew you were cheating on me with Jeonghan. You’re a fucking li-”
“Actually this is the first time we’ve ever stepped over our boundaries. She was telling you the truth...you’re just an idiot.” Jeonghan moved his finger inside of you slowly. He felt around your velvet walls teasingly before inserting a second finger, stretching you out a little further. Opening you up for him. “Isn’t that right angel?” He raised an eyebrow before picking up the pace of his fingers. You gripped his arms, digging your nails into his skin as you felt the slight pleasurable pain course throughout your body.
“Y-Yes, mmh...fuck Jeonghan, yes.” You bucked your hips against the palm of his hand. Your clit lightly brushes up against ot making your body jolt, as his pace and your pleasure increased.
“I-Is this why you r-refuse to fight for us, because you want to be a slut and fuck Jeonghan without feeling guilty.” Seungcheol scoffed and Jeonghan rolled his eyes. The coil in the pit of your stomach tightened up and you found yourself getting lost in the delicious pleasure Jeonghan was giving you rather than Seungcheol’s words. The moment you walked out on him he stopped mattering and you couldn’t be happier. Especially if the outcome was with Jeonghan and Bomi.
“Are you close baby? Are you going to cum for me so Seungcheol hears how good I make you feel? Jeonghan rolled his palm against your hardened nipple, his thumb circle around your clit adding to the pleasure his fingers were giving you.
“Fuck, y-yes...I’m going to come for you Jeonghan.” Your fingers threatened to break the surface of his skin and with one final thrust of his fingers you gonat came around then moaning out his name. He helped you ride out your orgasm mumbling praises against the crown of your head. Before taking out his glistening fingers making you whine. He raised fhem up to his lips and wrapped his tongue around them sensually, sucking them clean.
You were panting, your chest heaving against his as you tried to catch your breath again. “Choi Seungcheol are you still there?” Jeonghan asked, making you roll your eyes, you buried your head in his chest, running your down the smoothness of your back. “She looks like a fucked out work of art right now and I’m not even done with her yet.”
“Whatever, I hope you enjoy my sloppy seconds, she’s incapable of being loved anyway.” Seungcheol’s words tugged at your heartstrings and you could feel the anger radiating from Jeonghan's heated body.
“Fuck you Seungcheol.”
Tumblr media
Jeonghan carefully laid you down on the couch of your shared office, peppering kisses down your body. After Seungcheol hung up, an overwhelming and heavy silence surrounded the two of you.
“Do you regret it?” He buried his head into your neck. His hands that had devilishly devoured your body five minutes ago, hoovered over your lower back. His voice small, trapped in the back of his throat as he melted in your arms.
“Leaving him?” You questioned and moved your fingers down the smoothness of his back. “I don’t, I don’t regret leaving him.”
“No that,” He raised his head. His gaze burning intensely in yours, “me touching you do you...do you regret it?” Jeonghan finally touched you again, his cold touch sent shivers up your spine. He smiled tugging a strand of hair behind your ear, his thumb running over your earlobe gently before resting them against your cheek.
“No, I don’t regret it whatsoever.”
“Good because I don’t want to stop touching you.” He closed the tiny gap between the two of you and kissed you gently. He ran his hands down the side of your body before hooking his thumbs underneath your torn tights. You giggled against his lips remembering how he had impatiently torn them. He leaned back against heels and helped you remove them before tossing them elsewhere. You leaned up against your elbows, watching as he lustfully moved his hands up your legs slowly.
“I meant what I said, I’m going to treat you like the angel you are.” He whispered and took off your black laced panties throwing them behind him. He held your legs open before kneeling in between them “You’re beautiful.” He whispered leaving kisses up your thighs, stopping in front of your pussy. “I’m going to devour you.” He mumbled before running his tongue up your slit. You moaned arching your back, your nipples getting harder against the cool air of your office.
“Jeonghan, w-wait.” You mumbled getting lost in the way his tongue moved against you, “no one’s ever done this before.” You confessed, threading your fingers with his dark locks pulling him closer.
He looked up at you, wrapping his arms around your thigh and brought you closer to his mouth. He moaned, wrapping his lips around your clit, sucking harshly. His gaze found yours, the way you were looking at him, overcome by pleasure, made his heart sore.
He sucked, humming when your hips started bucking against his mouth indicating that your orgasm was nearing. If he could he would’ve stayed in between your legs for hours, especially after finding out that no one had ever given in to you the way he currently was, but his cock was straining against his slacks begging to be inside of you, so, he pulled away. A frustrated sigh running past your lips.
“Why’d you stop?” You questioned sitting up on your elbows before teasingly running your palm down his chest. Your eyes caught sight of his bulge making your pussy clench over nothing. “Do you want to stop?” You sat up and played with his belt buckle, slowly unlooping it as you waited for his answer.
“I’d be crazy if I did.” He watched as you popped open the button of his slacks. Without a warning your hand found its way inside his boxers and wrapped around his length. Jeonghan’s body grew frigid as your hand slowly moved against him, his breath caught itself at the back of his throat, his body growing hot with pleasure. “Angel, I want to...fuck, I want to play a little longer but I need to be inside of you.”
“Do you have a condom?” You kissed his neck, sucking hard enough to leave your mark, smirking against his skin knowing how the office will react tomorrow morning. The many questions he would be bombarded with.
“Fuck, I don’t angel. We can stop here, it's okay,” he threw his head back as your lips moved down his chest and your warm hand moved against him.
“No. I trust you. I don’t want to stop.” You wrapped your lips around his nipple causing him to moan.Your hand stopped moving against him and tugged on his pants, signaling for him to take them off.
“Are you sure?” He stood up, kicking his dress shoes off before pushing his slacks and boxers down, leaving him naked in all his glory in front of you. He looked beautiful, the milky white light of the moon filtering through your giant window made him look like had been sculpted by the heaven’s. His cock sat against his stomach, the precum slowly leaking out and your mouth watered, but just like him you needed to finally feel him stretch you out. So you pushed the thought to the side and laid down opening your legs further, inviting him.
“Jeonghan, make love to me please. Make me scream out your name and forget about any other asshole that has used me in the past. I want to be yours only.” You said moved your hands up your body slowly before they found your breasts. You pinched your nipples gently moaning out his name in the process.
Jeonghan had never seen or heard anything as beautiful as to what he was witnessing right now. He hoped that this wouldn’t be a one time thing, that he could finally love you the way he had been itching to do so. Otherwise working alongside you would be a lot more awkward now that the two of you had crossed into dangerous territory. So, he kneeled in front of you again, leaning his naked body against yours, feeling your hard nipples rub against his naked chest as he leaned down and kissed you slowly. The passion spewing out of your connected lips. This was better than what he had ever imagined.
“You’re beautiful, I’m going to make you mine tonight and forever.” He mumbled before pulling away and snaking a hand down your connected bodies. He wrapped his fingers around his cock, spreading the precum around his angry head before looking at you. Slowly, he ran his head up your slit and stopped searching your face.
“God, you take forever. Just fuck me, Jeonghan please.” You smiled nodding your head pushing his hair away from his forehead.
“I’m just trying to take everything in, I’ve pictured this moment many times over the years and I need to make sure it's real.” He winked and slowly pushed himself in. Your mouth fell agape, his moans sounded beautiful as he kept pushing inside of you before bottoming out. “T-Tell me when I can move.” He leaned down capturing your lips in another slow and sensual kiss. His kisses were otherworldly and addicting.
“F-Fuck Jeonghan move please.” Your hands fell down his back as you pushed him closer. The pain of him stretching you out hadn’t subsided entirely but you were desperate with need.
“As you wish my angel.” He pecked your lips one last time before kissing your check and burying his face in the crock of your neck. His body was overwhelmed as he slowly started moving his hips against yours. The way he had fit so snuggly inside of you was driving him crazy and he hoped he would last a lot longer than what his body was telling him. Though with the way you had started to deliciously clench around him, he was positive you were riding the same boat as him. There would be other opportunities where he could shower you with ten times more love and take it as slow as he wanted. But right now was not the time, years of pent up sexual frustration between the two of you was oozing out of your pores and threatening to spill.
“I-I don’t want to cum yet but I don’t think I can hold off anymore.” You whispered, moving your hand down his back and further pushing his hips into yours. His thrusts had started out slow, but the more he lost himself in your body the sloppier they got. Your pants and moans bounced off the four walls of your shared office, thankfully no one was around to hear how desperate the two of you were for each other.
“Me too.” He grunted and raised his body. He gripped your waist tightly and started thrusting even harder into you. “W-Where do you want me to cum?” He threw his head back getting lost in sensation of your pussy clenching around him. Your second orgasm threatened to spill over the harder he fucked you into the leather sofa.
“I-Inside me. I want you to fill be up...mmmh, f-fuck please.” You arched your back digging your nails into his hips as your orgasm broke. Your body convulsed, hips cantaning up as he continued to piston his cock into you. Your name breathly spilling out of his lips as his own orgasm overtook his body. His warm milky seed covering your walls, making you moan out his name like an incantation.
The two of you rode out your orgasms. The fear of being separated seeping into your pores as he finally let his body go slump over yours. His face contorting in pleasure while your pussy continued to milk out of everything he provided you. Your chests raised slowly against each other, while reality finally seeped in. You had just fucked the man of your dreams in your office and silently you wondered why you had wasted your time hating him for years. While he silently loved you from afar, until you were too late.
“So much for finishing our paperwork.” Jeonghan broke the silence making you laugh. His head was against your sweaty chest, his thumb painting invisible pictures against your hips.
“You’ve just given me the best orgasm, possibly ever, and all you can think about is paperwork.” You joked, wrapping your leg around his waist. His cock twitching inside of you.
“I’m thinking about other things. I just wanted to state the obvious before I have you screaming my name again.”
“Mhm, I see.” You kissed his forehead and ran your index finger over his tired face. You knew he hadn’t been sleeping for days and as much as you wanted him to stay buried inside of you until morning. Another reality check crushed your fantasies. He needed to take him and his daughter, who was soundly sleeping in the office down the hall, home. “I’d love to Jeonghan, bu-”
“Do you regret it, p-please tell me you don’t” His pleading eyes found yours and you could’ve sworn your heart had flipped over how cute he looked right now.
“Let me finish talking first before you start jumping in to conclusions.” You kissed his forehead lightly, your index finger stopped moving against his face and you wrapped your arm around his neck pulling him closer then what he had already been. “I don’t regret anything but you need to take Bomi home and you need to sleep.”
“Then come home with me. I promise all we will do is sleep, but I want to wake up next to you and I want to make for lost time. Plus Bomi would be so excited when she wakes up and finds out you’re taking her to school with me.” He beamed and you felt the tears start to well up in the corner of your eyes. Jeonghan’s daughter was quite possibly the sweetest little thing in the entire world and each time you remembered what her mother had done to her and the man who was basking in the afterglow of your desperate love making. You would be hit with an overwhelming sense of anger.
“Jeonghan I want too, but we can’t be moving too fast. I want to be with you but I also need time to recover from what Seungcheol did to me, especially if Bomi is involved. I want to be there for you and her, but I can’t, knowing I’m not strong enough yet.” You sighed, blinking rapidly to keep the tears at baby. When they had started to fall Jeonghan leaned in and kissed every single one of them away.
“Okay, the ball is in your court angel, I’ll go at your pace.” He grinned, you could tell he was slightly disappointed but the fact that he had given you the upper hand made your heart swell up with love.
“Thank you Jeonghan.”
“It’s no problem, Seungcheol was wrong, you’re more than capable of being loved and I will spend every waking moment from here on out proving to you how wrong he had been and if I have to wait for you to get over what that asshole did to you. Then I will. Even if it means waiting another lifetime for you angel. I would wait for that one and the next one until you’re ready to let me love you the way you should be loved.”

The white ceiling was staring right back at you.
Your tired eyes had no strength to fight back the hot trail of bitter tears rolling down your cheeks and falling on your pillow. The heavy, cold sheets, tangled between your legs, shrivelled even more under you as you struggled to ease your anxious mind into sleep, but every blink would bring images of explosions and unmoving bodies. The intrusive smell of blood and rotting flesh had been ingrained into your brain for years; the earsplitting, violent screams of terror had become nothing more than a background noise.
Adults and children were fighting side by side, desperately holding onto whatever hope for a future they might have had. The fresh summer soil was soaked in blood, old and young; with a burning passion, you prayed to whoever could hear you, that you wouldn't spot the faces of your loved ones in the sea of corpses that stretched out far into the distance.
There was chaos, and in between - grim visions of morning light.
You couldn't fall asleep, not when you could still vividly picture that night as though it had just been yesterday. Years later, the memory didn't fail to turn you into its slave every time you'd close your eyes.
The moon was wide awake. The air seemed to not be enough for you and the buzzing silence had nearly driven you to the point of insanity when you finally jumped out of your bed. The sharp moonlight caused your silhouette to dance as you walked barefoot out of your bedroom.
It was eerily unsettling to be strolling down the hallway of Fred and George's apartment without being bombarded by cheerful laughter and occasional explosions - there was only creaking of wooden stairs as you walked down to the kitchen. You poured yourself a full glass of cold water and immediately downed it entirely, hoping it would shake off the anxiety bubbling in your stomach.
You took a refill for just in case and sat beside the small kitchen table. You let out a deep breath and rested your head in your palms, shoulders heavy as if the carried the world.
A gentle voice nearly caused you to knock over the glass.
"Trouble sleeping?"
You looked up from your lap to see George standing by the doorway, hands in the pockets of his pajamas. His spiky hair and sleepy gaze let you know he had just woken up, but his expression immediately softened when he noticed your tearful eyes.
You smiled as best as you could, "You have no idea."
George approached you and sat beside you. He moved closer to try to take a better look at your distressed face; he didn't miss the stiffness of your body and the puffiness of your bloodshot eyes. The sight sent an electric shock through him and his heart began to ache.
"You're pretty shaken up, darling. What's wrong?" He asked just above a whisper, as though he was afraid he'd scare you away. He tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and you leaned into his touch, seeking some kind of warmth.
How could you explain to him you were still being haunted by the past? It had been years, why were you still chained by sorrow? You hated yourself for letting it settle in your bones, for not being able to return to the person you once used to be.
George was unharmed and so was his family. You were too. There was no logical reason for you to be thinking about it. Nevertheless, your nightmares were the reason you'd wake up every night in cold sweat, limbs of lead. Yet George didn't know a thing.
"It's nothing to worry about," you assured him despite your stomach twisting at the lie you had just spat out. "Just bad dreams."
"You seem to get a lot of those lately," George stated sympathetically; he could always read you so effortlessly. The sudden vulnerability caused you to shrink further into your chair, a fresh tear rolling down your cheek.
Your friend wiped it away with the pad of his thumb and hummed.
"That's alright. So do I."
"How do you know this about me?" you questioned, more confused rather than embarrassed.
His lips curled up in a tiny, sad smile, "You're not the only one wandering the house at night, sweetheart."
"I didn't know you still dream of… of it," you let out in a moment of realization. You didn't have to say what exactly you were referring to - you shared the same tragic memory.
"Yes, I do," he murmured. "Every night."
Your eyes met his dark brown ones and your heart sank; they were just as tortured as yours, and lacked the spark they once possessed. Never had you believed George would have to feign joy in his lifetime, he was the source of joy to everyone around him. But how could you expect flowers to bloom in a garden that's been burned to the ground?
Silence fell over you. Your eyes burned again.
"You should try to get some sleep," George advised, attempting to mask his hoarse voice, shaking ever so slightly. Your face fell. "I know it might be hard, but you can't risk getting a headache in the morning, you know."
The moon was still shining brightly through the window, illuminating his concerned face and the tears that had already formed in his eyes.
You swallowed hard.
"You're right. But I don't really want to go. It's just…" you sighed. Your hands were trembling. "It feels kinda lonely up there."
George nodded in understanding; there was no judgement in the way he observed you. He himself had spent way too many cold, sleepless nights. Fighting the same demons as you.
It hurt him beyond measure to know you too were being held hostage by the weight of the past; the past which was robbing you both of your future. But what hurt him more was his inability to help you. He desperately yearned to heal you of your misery and hear your laughter, the laughter that had made him fall for you long before he even knew what love was.
The redhead was suddenly struck by an idea and his shoulders relaxed, a small smile causing his dimple to appear.
"I can go to bed with you, if that's okay with you, of course. Only until you fall asleep, that is. Then I'll go back to my room."
Your instinctive reaction was to refuse, but you stopped yourself before you could respond. Surely it wouldn't be so bad to have company, would it? It didn't seem like George was only doing it out of pity either; he genuinely cared about you and had your best interest in mind.
"You can say no, it's fine," said George when he didn't receive a reply. "I don't mean to make you uncomfortable."
"It's okay with me, I promise," you mirrored his smile. "Shall we go?"
You rose to your feet and headed towards your bedroom upstairs, George following closely behind. He couldn't recall a previous time when he had been in there, and he was pleasantly surprised to see how you had changed the design to your liking after you had moved in to live with the twins. The room looked cozy and truly felt like... you.
You were the first to climb into the bed and scooted over to make room for George's long legs. The mattress sank under his weight and he pulled the covers over the two of you, making sure he didn't take too much of them. George then rolled over to the opposite side, not wishing to invade your personal space.
Despite being taken aback by his action, you did the same - if that was the closest you'd get to being together with him, so be it.
You pulled the blanket over your shoulder and closed your eyes, but alas, your lungs constricted with anxiety. The intrusive silence let your mind wander back to memories you had been trying so hard to push away. The empty space behind your back was cold.
Less than an hour later, you were still as awake as you could be. Your friend was a quiet sleeper and thus you had no idea if he was asleep yet or if he was about to drift off. Nevertheless, you still felt guilty for whispering.
"Georgie?"
Rustling in the bedsheets.
"Hm?"
You wettened your lips and timidly asked, "Can I hold your hand?... For just a bit?"
George turned around and you expected to see him scowl for being woken up like that, especially for a thing as silly as your request. But you were met with such a fond expression, immense care swimming in his eyes.
Any sleepiness was nonexistent on his features; he couldn't fall asleep either.
"Of course," he smiled and lifted your hand to press a tender kiss to your wrist. His soft lips stayed there, pulse racing madly underneath, and the warmth lingered on the skin long after George pulled away and placed your hand on his chest. You let out a quiet gasp when you felt his own heart hammering against his ribs.
His other hand slid down to your waist and pulled you closer. You buried your face in his neck.
You could finally breathe.
He began tracing lazy patterns on your lower back. "Better?"
"Better."
George's fingers lightly grazed your skin, slow and gentle touch never once stopping its loving path. Drowsiness welcomed you much sooner than you had expected and your eyes fluttered closed. The last thing you remembered was George's lips on your eyelids.
It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep your demons at bay at least for just one night. George gave into slumber as well, both of you engulfed by divine serenity until the bright moon hid behind the horizon.

Fate and Phantasms #203
Tumblr media
Today on Fate and Phantasms, we've only got one goal in mind: Golems! Thanks to Avicebron, we'll make just that; lots and lots of golems! Avicebron is a Battle Smith Artificer, so you'll always have at least one on standby.
Check out his build breakdown below the cut, or his character sheet over here!
Next up: I did naht kill him, I did naht. Oh hi Mark.
Race and Background
Avvy might not look it, but he's still a Variant Human, giving him +1 Intelligence and Wisdom, plus proficiency with Deception to keep your mentees close and your golem ingredients just as close, plus you get the Servo Crafting feat! You can cast Find Familiar as a ritual, but instead of getting an animal, you build a small golem called a Servo. You can speak with and through the servo, plus sense through it, as long as you share a plane of existence. You can also attack with the servo instead of your wimpy noodlearms once per attack action.
You're also a Cloistered Scholar, which gives you History and Religion proficiency. You are nerd! No duh!
Ability Scores
Your Intelligence should be pretty high, you make golems and you don't afraid of anything, that's what you do. After that is Dexterity, you're better off not getting hit than anything else, and also having 4 arms means you're pretty good at sleight of hand. Wisdom is also pretty good, you're a religious man, and while you don't get power from that you're still wise. Unfortunately we gotta make Strength the next highest stat. I mean, two of your arms are robots, so I guess it kinda works? Your Charisma is pretty low, you just don't care about people that much, but we're dumping Constitution. Trust me, it'll make sense in a bit. (Don't do this in-game, this is a flavor thing, you WILL DIE)
Class Levels
You're 100% artificer, so you start off with Magical Tinkering, letting you stuff minor magical effects into tiny items. I don't know why you'd make a fart sound producing golem out of a pen, but I'm not Avicebron. You also learn Spells. They use your Intelligence score for prep and casting. Grab Mage Hand to build a little drone to carry stuff for you, and Message for a messenger golem. Really you can take whatever spells you like as long as you call them golems, but the most golemy are Alarm golem and Catapult golem. Why throw stuff when you can just make it throw itself? You also get proficiency in a buncha stuff, like Constitution and Intelligence saves, plus Nature to figure out good materials for golems and Arcana to build them!
Second level artificers can Infuse Items, adding cool effects to up to two items per long rest from a list of four options. Grab Armor of Tools so you'll always have your golem-making kit on ya, Enhanced Arcane Focus for stronger golems, Homunculus Servant for a golem, and Mind Sharpener to help keep track of your golems. I can already tell golem isn't even gonna look like a word by the end of this build.
Your artificer subclass is the Battle Smith, which makes you Battle Ready, so your golems can use martial weapons. Of course you're not swinging them yourself, so you can use your intelligence instead of strength when attacking with magical weapons. You also get a second permanent golem, the Steel Defender! You gotta use your bonus action to make it do stuff, but it'll hit people, repair stuff, and protect its allies! Also, you can cast Mending on it to heal it. You don't have that yet, but you will! You can also make The Right Tool for the Job over a long rest, and you also get subclass spells for free. Heroism makes a very pretty golem that inspires all your allies to not get scared and get temporary HP. Shield makes a golem that'll stand in front of someone as a reaction, adding 5 to their AC and blocking magic missiles for a round.
Use your first Ability Score Improvement to bump up your Intelligence. You use it for pretty much everything, so your brain's gotta be good!
Fifth level battlesmiths get an Extra Attack, so your servo, your steel defender, and your sword-holding golem can all attack at the same time. You also get second level spells, like Branding Smite and Warding Bond. Neither of those are golems tho. Grab Rope Trick for the first of many rope golems, and Enlarge/Reduce for later. Adam's a big boy, so you've gotta make a big golem.
Sixth level artificers get Tool Expertise, doubling your proficiency bonus with all tools. Golem making is complicated, the DCs are gonna be high. You also get two more blueprints and one more infused item, like a Spell-Refueling Ring for extra spell slots and a Rope of Climbing for another rope-based golem to help your bad climbing skills.
At seventh level you get so smart you have Flashes of Genius, adding your intelligence modifier to checks and saves near you intelligence modifier times per long rest. Yeah, it's actually just weirdly specific golems.
Bump up your Intelligence this ASI for more of everything you like. Smrt.
Ninth level battle smiths add an Arcane Jolt to their steel defender and magical weapons. Once per turn, intelligence modifier times per long rest, you can either add extra force damage to the hit, or heal a nearby creature. Still not sure how to make those golems, but you'll figure something out, you've got 20 Intelligence! You also get third level spells, like an Aura of Vitality golem and a Conjure Barrage golem. You can also can Create Food and Water golems for gathering, or turn just about anything into a Tiny Servant. For up to 8 hours after casting, you can turn a tiny object into a tiny creature, commanding it as a bonus action. Finally, a spell that makes golems! You can also use Glyph of Warding now, though it won't be that useful for the build until you get fourth level spells. The idea is, you can keep a bunch of these bad boys in your base, all set to trigger against a creature that knocks you down to 0 HP. All of them summon constructs, beating up the guy after you're already unconscious. This is the closest we could get to Avicebron's third skill, D&D doesn't really plan for character death that well. Also, just a correction. I just found out you can't carry glyphs around without them breaking :(
Tenth level artificers are Magic Item Adepts, giving you an extra attunement slot and you can create uncommon magic items for cheaper. You also get the Mending cantrip for golems, and two more blueprints for an extra infused item. The Helm of Awareness will help you stay out of trouble, and the Periapt of Wound Closure makes it easier to not die. Your master strategy is all about getting knocked out, so it would be nice if you automatically stabilize.
Eleventh level artificers can create Spell-Storing Items, stuffing weapons or focii full of first/second level magical goodness. It's like you're casting the spell, but it uses the other guy's concentration.
Another ASI! Bump up your Dexterity for less dying.
With fourth level spells, you can cast all sorts of golems. You're stuck with Aura of Purity and Fire Shield, but you also get an Arcane Eye for a drone golem, plus Mordenkainen's Faithful Hound and Summon Construct for fighting golems.
As a Magic Item Savant you get another attunement slot, and you can ignore requirements when attuning magic items. You also get the Prestidigitation cantrip to make whatever small tools you need for a second, and two more blueprints for one more infusion. Bracers of Defense will help you not die if you don't think Avicebron's outfit is armor, and the Ring of Protection will also do that regardless.
At fifteenth level you get your last subclass improvement, the Improved Defender. Your arcane jolt gets bigger, and your golem gets tougher and can reflect damage, not just deflect it.
Use the rest of your ASI to bump up your Wisdom. Making yourself better isn't in character, so just be wise.
You've got fifth level spells! Banishing smite isn't a golem, but I guess Mass Cure Wounds could be Adam's feet? Idk. You can also use Bigby's Hand for Adam's hand, and Animate Objects for more item-based golems. Now you can turn your trusty frying pan into a-golem. Everything turns into a golem.
Eighteenth level artificers are Magic Item Masters, letting you attune to six items at the same time. You also get two more blueprints, so grab two copies of Arcane Propulsion Arm for the four arms of your third ascension. Arms are cool.
One last ASI, grab more Wisdom.
Your capstone ability grants you a Soul of Artifice, giving you a +1 bonus to all your saves for each magic item you're attuned to, and you can destroy an infusion to drop to 1 HP instead of 0. Remember, getting KOd only helps if you're near one of your glyphs.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Between your Steel Defender, servo, tiny servants, and animated objects, you don't have to do much. Plus you can just rope trick away and let them take care of everything!
If your DM ever tries to spook the party by fighting you in your own base, you can spook him right back by taking a fall and filling your study with angry golems.
With expertise and flashes to help your repairs along plus mending, you're a great repairman. If the DM tries to block your path with a broken bridge, it won't stay broken for long. Plus, your warforged allies will love you.
Cons:
DONT DUMP CON. You have less than 100 HP at level 20, and your constitution save is really bad (for an artificer). Don't do it. Look me in the eyes, don't. do it!
Having any part of your battle plan being getting knocked out is not going to make you popular with your party members. Maybe you should help out yourself? Nah, golems are better.
All of your infusions and spells are focused on helping yourself, a stark contrast to most of our artificer builds. Keeping all your toys to yourself will not help your party like you, especially with a +0 charisma.

Where It Leads (Rafe Cameron)
Summer IV
Part 07: Crashing Down
series masterlist | previous part
summary: A jarring family emergency forces you to consider the future of your relationship with Rafe Cameron.
a/n: I'm a little bit emotional about this series ending because I've had so much fun writing it! Enjoy the last part and, as always, please come share your reactions with me in my inbox. Okay, that's all from me!
word count: 2.1k words
Tumblr media
Rafe Cameron knew how to text. He was somehow witty, charming, and hilarious all in less characters than a single tweet. Texting with most boys was like talking to a brick wall: single-syllable answers, unironic uses of punctuation, asking “What are you wearing?” before even listening to how your day went. Though, to be fair, Rafe had asked that same question a few times, which always earned him a sarcastic answer in return. Well, except for that one time.
You’d been forced to spill the beans about your dreamy summer romance to Alice and Kensie after one of Rafe’s funnier texts almost made you pee yourself laughing at the lunch table.
“Oh, so he’s a stud muffin,” Alice announced, peering over Kenzie’s shoulder at the photo on your phone.
“Please god don’t call anyone a stud muffin ever again Al,” Kenzie replied.
“What? The 80s are like making a comeback.”
“Yeah, not that,” you countered and Alice huffed.
“He’s totally hot though,” Kenzie said, handing the phone back to you. “And I kinda hate you for not telling us about him.”
You looked down at the picture. Rafe was kissing your check while you grinned up at the camera, the golden hour lighting made the whole thing look rather enchanting. It was your favorite picture of you and him.
“Oh shit,” Kenzie said causing you to look up from the phone. “You’re like in love in love with him.”
“What? No,” you protested. Yes, your brain corrected.
Kenzie glanced over at Alice for backup.
“Besides, I wasn’t hiding him. I just didn’t know if there was anything there to...tell,” you finished.
“I wish I had a handsome summer fling with spectacular cheekbones,” Alice sighed.
“Don’t let your boyfriend hear you saying that.” Kenzie chucked a fry off her tray at Alice who dodged it expertly.
“Oh, please. Matty knows I would dump his ass for someone who looks like a young Chuck Bass any day of the week. Gimme your phone. I wanna see the photos again y/n.”
“I seriously don’t know how you and Matthew have been together for two years,” Kenzie replied.
“Are you kidding? They’re practically made for each other,” you added.
“The phone, please,” Alice interjected. “I wanna thirst over your mans while my boyfriend is sucking up to his English teacher so she doesn’t fail him. Of course, I told him he needed to actually read Wuthering Heights and not just sparknotes it. But did he listen? No. I picked a real winner y’all,” she finished, taking the phone from your outstretched hands. “You sure Rafe doesn’t have any brothers? Not even like a half-step brother?”
So yeah, going great. Against the odds of three thousand miles, the whole thing was somehow working. Long-distance friends with benefits? Check. Well, except for those moments when that nagging feeling in your stomach came back and you’d start overthinking everything. His texts would sit, unread in your phone for days or even a whole week, slowly sinking to the bottom of your messages.
Then came the call from the Kildare Country Hospital in the early hours of a foggy April morning. You should have gone to sleep hours ago but were still up, desperately trying to cram Maria’s lines into your brain while also texting Rafe. The Sound of Music opened in three weeks and your director had already chewed you out twice for not being off-book, something about being an upperclassman and the lead, and what kind of an example were you setting for the rest of the program. Big speeches were kind of your director's thing, you learned to just ride them out.
Around 1 a.m. your phone ran with an incoming FaceTime call from Rafe. You pressed the green acccept button, a smile spread across your face as Rafe’s own filled the screen.
“Hey Broadway Star.”
“Hi Rafe.” The dim lighting of his bedroom made his feature especially striking. “What are you still doing up?”
“Can’t sleep. Plus you’re up too so. How’s the memorizing going?”
“Shitty,” you replied, closing your binder with a sigh. “I’m too tired to do anymore of it tonight anyway.”
“You know, I was thinking I could come to Oregon for your opening night?”
“Really?” The possibility of Rafe sitting in the audience made your heart race.
“Yeah, why not? I’ll ask Ward if I can borrow the plane that weekend and I bet Sarah’ll want to come too. I wanna see my girl kill it. I miss you.”
“I miss you too, Rafe. You know my friends think you’re hot.”
“Oh, do they?” Rafe replied, rolling over onto his back in his bed.
“Don’t let it get to your head, Cameron.”
The home phone ran but you ignored it, much more invested in your conversation with Rafe. The second time the hospital left a message. Your Nonna’s heart had given out. The prognosis wasn’t good. She had barely any time left.
Your heart dropped as the words echoed over the speaker of the answering machine.
“Rafe,” you said, cutting him off momentarily. “I gotta go. I’ll call you back later. I gotta-” you ended the call before Rafe even had the chance to respond. You dropped your phone on the kitchen table, dashing up the stairs to your parents’ bedroom. Your father was booking a flight for your mother back to the Outer Banks minutes later.
The end had come so quickly, so unexpectedly. It was almost like that made it harder. There'd been just enough time for your mom and uncle to get to the Outer Banks, sitting on each side of your Nonna as her final breaths passed through her lungs. Now, everyone was there to say goodbye one last time. Uncle Austin and his fiancé. Your mom and dad. Both your siblings. The entire population of Figure Eight.
☼☼☼
Rain drizzled down from the dark, gray clouds looming overhead. It was as if Mother Nature was mourning your Nonna too, hiding the sunshine away.
Three baby ducks followed their mama into the man-made pond at the edge of the cemetery. You watched their tiny feet kick up small waves disturbing the peaceful water and the tears silently slipped down your face.
The cars were waiting to take you back to your Nonna's house for the wake. The same house with the for-sale sign now stuck in the front yard. The for-sale sign with Rose's patronizing grin that you were starting to really hate. Your dad had handled that. Listing the house. He'd handled most of the funeral arrangement's actually because your mother had been too sunken into her grief to make any decision. Sending out the invitations, picking out your Nonna's casket, choosing the flowers. Your mother clung to him during the entire funeral, weeping into his shoulder.
“Y/n?” Rafe's voice called out from behind you and you turned to see him walked toward you. He’d stood at the back of the church with his family during the funeral. You had longed for him to be sitting in the first pew next to you, to have had his hand to hold onto to ground you, but it hardly would have been appropriate. Your Nonna would have sooner risen from the dead than have had a Cameron front row at her funeral.
As soon as he was close enough, Rafe reached for you, pulling your body tight into him. Your head landed on his chest and the sobs came moments later. God, he always smelled the same. He just let you cry, holding you close, smoothing his hand over your hair.
“I know you’re selling your grandma’s house but I was thinking you could stay with me for the summer," he said as your tears began to slow. It was hard to imagine that you wouldn't return to the Outer Banks once school let out. It was the first week of May already and you could feel the tourist-attracting town waking up. But selling the house just made more sense. Your older sister was already living her life in New York, a real adult life. Next summer, you'd be moving out too, headed to college. The house would sit empty for eight months out of the year, your family couldn't keep it and your uncle certainly didn’t want it. Selling it just had to happen.
You stepped back, slipping out of his embrace. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Rafe.”
“Why not?”
“Cause we’re like Romeo and Juliet.”
“I copied Cleo’s notes for that unit," he joked, trying to lighten to damp mood. “Plus I was never a fan of Leo DiCaprio so I didn’t finish the movie either.”
“It means we’re not supposed to be together, you and me. And whenever we try, the universe rips us apart. We hurt each other.”
Rafe shifted awkwardly on his feet, clearly wanting to reach for you again but stopping himself from doing it. “But I can't lose you.”
You reached your hand out, brushing away a strand of hair that had fallen in front of his eyes. “Oh Rafe, don’t you get it? You never really had me.” You stood up onto your tiptoes to kiss him just like you had the first time three years ago. Rafe barely parted his lips, kissing you back gently. Your hand cupped his face, your thump stroking over his cheek. It was a goodbye. Both of you knew it. It was an ending and this was your closure. You pulled away, your hand falling away from his face.
You couldn’t bring yourself to say the actual words. Your eyes fell to the ground. You needed to walk away now. You side-stepped Rafe but he grabbed your waist, turning you back around to face him.
“So that’s it? You’re not even gonna try to fight for us?”
“What even is there to fight for, Rafe? I’ve been fighting for us for the past four years. If we were supposed to be together that car wouldn’t have crashed into ours, I wouldn’t have fallen for Evan when I did, we wouldn’t be having this conversation at my Nonna’s funeral. What? Are we supposed to do long distance for all of college? I hardly know who I am right now. I have no idea who I’ll be in the next four years. Our future selves might not even like each other. I’m not gonna wait around for you Rafe and I would never ask you to do that for me.” You twirled the small, star charm between your fingers, a nervous habit you'd developed over the past year. His eyes dropped down to your neck momentarily and his adam's apple visibly bobbing as he swallowed his next weeks.
“You were it for me, you know. I tried to give a fuck about anyone else but I couldn’t get your gorgeous, stupid face out of my mind. I only wanted you.” Rafe paused gauging your reaction “I was falling in love with you.”
Your eyes wandered over his stoic expression. “The feeling was mutual, Rafe Cameron.”
He dropped your wrist but you both stood, not moving or saying anything. “Do you wanna walk me back to the car?”
“Yeah.” He reached for your hand, interlocking your fingers. Your other hand held onto his bicep so you walked together through the graveyard back to the parking lot.
The moment felt precious and delicate, like the fragile china your Nonna used to collect. You wondered what would happen to all that china.
Rafe placed a chaste kiss on your lips before opening the door of the car.
“I’ll miss you,” you said, the words hanging in the air meaning so much.
“Me too,” Rafe agreed.
You wanted one more kiss, one more passionate declaration of how much this all had meant but that would make leaving Rafe so much more impossible.
You climbed into the car, dropping Rafe’s hand in the process.
“See you around Cameron.” You knew it wouldn’t happen but it felt better than a goodbye.
He smiled back. “Maybe so.”
Perhaps Rafe was right and you’d both end up at a small liberal arts college in California taking the same second-year Econ class with a professor who always smelled like weed. Perhaps the stars would align and two of you would realize the universe wasn’t trying to keep you apart. It was just waiting for the right moment to show you that the love you had for each other was the soulmates, forever and ever kind of love. Perhaps you would get married and Sarah would be your maid of honor, of course. You’d buy back your Nonna’s house to raise your troubling-making kids in. Perhaps, you would find your way back and wake up each day and choose each other again and again.
Or perhaps, he'd always be your right-person-wrong-time. And, in the end, the passing days will steal away your memories of the blue-eyed boy from the Outer Banks.

Celebrity Swingers Club
Request: @bbarton -hi!! could i request adam driver x reader <3 they are dating and one night they go out or something and someone starts hitting on the reader aggressively and he gets very protective and jealous :)
A/N: Honestly the idea for this stemmed from a random and hilarious conversation I was having with my friend the other day. I wanted to keep this one light and silly, so I hope it makes you smile!  🥰
Warnings: Dash of SMUT, language.
Tumblr media
Adam was missing you today, even though he’d seen you mere hours ago, wrapped in his arms in bed at the hotel. And you were on set today as well, even. But this happened towards the end of filming, for a lot of actors. The inevitable mixture of melancholy, pride, restlessness and exhaustion. It was exacerbated by being on location, though he had to admit of all the locations he’d been to for a film, he had little to complain about here in Hawaii.
But nearing the end of filming meant that time became more constrained, and you and he saw less of one another. He supposed it was part of the honeymoon phase, after all, you’d only been married about 5 months before production started on this latest project.
Today, he just wanted to see you, even if just for a short while.
So when they called lunch, he was quick to depart the set and make a beeline for the cafe, where he had two orders of lunch preordered for pickup. He thanked the staff, having a brief conversation with the cafe crew about how much he had to bribe them for the recipe to his favourite meal (seriously, it was one of the best dishes he’d ever encountered, but they wouldn’t give it up!). With a laugh and a shrug of defeat, he said his goodbyes and started toward the makeup trailers.
He figured you’d be working with your assistant to tidy up from the morning, as many fake injuries were needed for the scenes they were filming. You complained that these left your workstations a disaster. But he knew you loved creating the wounds, a macabre alternative to the glamour or ‘regular’ looks you specialized in. It had been alarming the first time he’d walked in on you in the bedroom you shared at home to find you looking at horrifically graphic photos and making notes.
As he approached your trailer, your assistant, Bailey, was making her way hurriedly down the steps. Adam greeted her with a wide grin. “Hey Bailey, sneaking away?”
“Sneaking away is accurate, Carter is in there,” She replied, her lips set in a thin line, “Seriously, I know he means well, but he really is a bit much.”
Adam nodded in understanding, as he too found the young actor a little...obnoxious. And while Adam had no illusions to his idiosyncrasies and perpetual ‘asshole’ persona; he still made a point of not falling into conversation with Carter. It was tiring, as the kid would speak non-stop, jumping from topic to topic so quickly it gave his listeners whiplash, and when he’d finish, he’d merely take a breath and launch into another speech unless he was cut off.
But he was a good enough kid and a great actor. Someone that, professionally, Adam was happy to work with. Just like Bailey, however, he had his limits when it came to patience in dealing with Carter offset. And Adam knew his wife all too well, he knew you were in the trailer, abandoned by Bailey, being an absolute gem to the kid. Letting him talk your ear off while you no doubt worked to get your station fully tidied before being called to set after lunch for touch-ups.
“Well, I’d better go rescue her, I’ll see you later.” He sighed, and Bailey gave him a sympathetic, knowing smiling before running off.
You kept your trailer especially cool, which Adam had always appreciated. You said it was for your art, but he also knew you did it for him, as he always ran a lot warmer than most. Stepping inside, he first turned left toward the dining area and set the food boxes down on the table. When he glanced around and didn’t see you in the main room, he made his way to the door that led into the meeting room, which had a large sink that you used for cleaning off your palettes and brushes. The door was halfway cracked and as Adam stepped up, he heard Carter’s voice.
“Honestly, totally no big deal, (y/n). Married, single, divorced-whatever,” Adam was right at the door now, looking in he saw your back, shoulders rigid in a way that he knew meant you were uncomfortable, and pointedly washing off a palette with determined vigour. “You’re fit, and I’m an honest person, so I just wanted to put it out there. You could even ask Adam if you-“
Leaning against the door frame, Adam slid the pocket door the rest of the way open, his eyes focused on Carter. “Ask Adam what?” His voice low, he was trying to control his temper-he didn’t want to jump to conclusions.
Carter had broken off the moment he saw Adam in the doorway, mouth slightly open in surprise. “Oh, hey Adam!” He quickly rearranged his expression to a more pleasant one.
But when you spun around and Adam saw the genuine relief flush across your face, his heart rate increased. He crossed his arms, inwardly happy that he was still wearing only a t-shirt, his muscles flexing slightly.
“Ask me what, Carter.”
The kids’ eyes widened, “I was, well, I mean I was saying to (y/n)-“
Adam cut him off again, “My wife. You were saying to my wife.” Out of the corner of his eye, Adam could see you biting back a smile.
Carter stuttered, “Yes! Of course, I was saying-to your wife-that I’d be down for a, you know,” He shrugged, though his tense posture and wide eyes gave away how utterly not calm he was, “Some fun, Hollywood style, uh, fun.”
At this, Adam frowned with confusion, glancing between Carter and you, and you rolled your eyes, “He means sex. You know, like how all celebrities are here for a good time, so we can swap partners and have sex parties and all that fun stuff we do on weekends.”
Adam’s eyes snapped to Carter, who visibly paled. Gulping he watched as Adam stepped away from the door and into the room, his eyes narrowed. “You asked my wife to fuck? Are you kidding me?” Moving nearer to you, Adam pointed at the door, “Get the fuck out of here, stay the fuck away from my wife, and expect a call from my manager.”
Though his voice had been quiet, the message and severity of his words were all too clear to Carter, who uttered a quick apology before running out of the trailer at full speed. When the door slammed closed behind him, you burst out laughing, peals of giggles that brought a smile to Adam’s face despite his anger.
“Oh god, that poor kid actually thought we had like, celebrity swingers clubs,” You broke down in another fit of giggles, one hand clutching your stomach, and Adam couldn’t help but join in.
After a few minutes, he stepped closer to you and pulled you into his arms, where you rested your head on his chest, your arms snaking around his waist. It hadn’t been the first time he’d encountered someone unabashedly hitting on you, though this was the most unique proposition he thinks you'd been offered.
“That was the first time that one could interpret that I was included in the deal,” He considered aloud, causing you to laugh loudly again. “I’m not sure if I should be more, or less, offended.”
“Carter is a gullible fantasist. I’d put money down that someone told him there was a sex club he was missing out on.”
“If that’s the case,” Adam replied, pulling back slightly to look down at you, “Then whoever told him that is going to get a piece of my mind when I find out who they are. I fucking hate when men hit on you.”
Your gaze softened, a small hand reaching up to stroke his jaw in a soothing motion that always seemed to work on him. “I know, babe,” You whispered, your hand sliding from his jaw to grab the back of his neck, pulling him closer. With your mouth a breath away from his, you added, “I missed you today.” And then your lips pressed to his.
Without hesitation, Adam deepened the kiss, his blood rushing as your mouth opened for him and then he was licking into you, tasting you. A small moan escaped you as you pressed yourself against him, returning his fervour. One of the things he adored about you was the energy that you saved just for him. Every kiss, every touch, they were always fire, always intense and needy. You kissed him like it was the first time, every time, no matter how tired you might be, how hard you might have worked that day.
He broke the kiss, pressing his forehead to yours, each of you panting. “I love you, sweet girl.”
“Love you too, big.” You murmured, your lips wrapping seductively around the nickname you had for him. He smiled, reaching his hands up to cup your face, thumbs stroking the soft skin.
“I brought lunch, by the way.”
You pulled back further, leaning around him to look toward the dining table. Eyes lighting up upon seeing the take out containers that held your favourite meal, you glanced between Adam and the food a few times.
“Seeing you get all jealous worked me up,” Your words were thoughtful, brows furrowed in mock consideration, “I think we have time for a quickie before we ea-AH!”
You shrieked a giggle as Adam lifted you up, pressing his lips to yours before seating you on the table. He reached toward the door and quickly shut it, turning the lock, before looking back down at you.
With a dark look in his eyes, he stepped between your legs, hands gripping your shoulders gently, “Might need to leave a mark or two, remind everyone who you belong to.” And then his lips were on your collarbone, biting possessively before his tongue would lave out to soothe the mark. Your hands found his hair, fingers carding through the raven locks as you moaned in delight.
“All yours, big.” You sighed, and Adam smiled against the skin of your chest, his hands dropping to your hips so that he could ease your leggings off and bring your bodies together.
The food would go cold, but the trailer had a microwave. And really, neither of you were all that hungry at the moment, anyway.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
At first, Lt. Maggie Parker couldn't believe her good luck. The Enterprise was back on Earth in spacedock for extensive repairs and regular maintenance. This meant a two-week shore leave for all personnel. The ship's corridors were abuzz with excitement and everyone sharing their plans on how they'll be spending shore leave.
As soon as Maggie found out, she called her brothers, excited to have time to spend with them and their families. She was heartbroken to find out that they had already made plans to go on a Caribbean cruise. Their trip started the same day her shore leave started and was supposed to last for a month. Not only that, but the tickets were non-refundable. Ruthie was nowhere near Earth, still somewhere in the galaxy, on assignment on the USS Pegasus. With no one around, Maggie was left wondering how she was going to spend her shore leave.
She knew that Leonard was going home to Georgia and would be gone from the ship for all of shore leave. Their relationship was still going well, after almost two years. However, Maggie didn't know how ready either of them were for her to meet his family. She also wasn't too keen on being without his company for those two weeks.
One morning, Maggie was sitting in the mess hall having breakfast. Well, sort of. She had breakfast food on her tray, but hadn't really touched any of it except her coffee. Maggie had requested a hot vanilla latte from the replicator, but by this time, it had gone cold.
"You know, darlin', breakfast works much better if you actually ingest the food, instead of leaving it on your tray," he teased. He took the seat next to Maggie and reached for her hand, covering it with his own. "Everything all right, sweetheart?" he asked.
"Everything's fine, Len," Maggie said softly as she gave him a small smile. "I guess I'm just not that hungry right now. You can help yourself to whatever is here, though," she offered.
McCoy slipped his arm around Maggie's waist. "Are you sure? You've been a little quiet ever since shortly after shore leave was announced. I thought you'd be excited, making big plans and all," he remarked.
"Yeah, well, that was until everyone decided to ditch me and now I have no plans," Maggie retorted in a rare flash of anger. "I'll probably end up staying onboard the ship and using the time to get caught up on my reports. In fact, reports are what I really should be working on right now. Excuse me," Maggie abruptly got up and left the table.
The captain had witnessed Maggie's hasty retreat and joined the table, taking the seat she had recently vacated. "What was that all about?" Kirk wondered.
McCoy shook his head in bewilderment. "You got me, Jim. I asked her what her plans were for shore leave, and she muttered something about everyone deciding to ditch her," he replied.
"Well, I'm going home to Iowa, you're headed home to Georgia," he remarked then snapped his fingers. "You know, you should take her home with you. I mean she is your girlfriend after all. I'll bet Momma McCoy would love to meet her," Kirk suggested.
"Hey, that's a great idea. I wasn't looking forward to spending those two weeks without Maggie anyway. And I'll bet you're right, especially after everything I've told Ma about her. She probably can't wait to meet Maggie," McCoy grinned. "I'm going to go message her right now and tell her there may be one extra for Sunday dinner."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Maggie tried her best to concentrate on her reports to be turned in later to Cmdr. Spock. Unfortunately, this morning's conversation over breakfast with Dr. McCoy continued to run through her mind. I was upset, but I shouldn't have taken it out on my sweet Leonard, she thought. He was only trying to be helpful, and had no idea about my plans for shore leave falling through, Maggie inwardly groaned.
Around midday, Maggie went to the mess hall and picked out some items to take to Leonard for lunch. The MedBay was relatively quiet, not many patients for once. When Nurse Chapel saw who it was, she smiled and pointed Maggie towards Dr. McCoy's office.
Maggie nodded and tentatively knocked on the office door, hoping she wasn't disturbing her boyfriend. When she heard a soft, 'come in', she slowly opened the door and poked her head inside. Dr. McCoy was sitting in his chair, sifting through some papers on his desk.
At the sound of the door opening, he looked up and smiled broadly at seeing his girlfriend. He leaned back in his chair and folded his hands across his chest. "Well, hello there, darlin'. To what do I owe the pleasure? Is everything all right?" he asked.
"I come bearing gifts, or sort of a peace offering, if you will," Maggie replied, setting the food on Leonard's desk. She walked over to his chair, eyes cast downward.
McCoy unclasped his hands and held out his arms. As soon as Maggie got close enough, he reached for her and pulled her onto his lap. He draped one arm across her thighs and with his other hand, he guided her head to rest on his shoulder. Once she was settled, he brushed his thumb up and down Maggie's arm in a soothing motion. "Now, what seems to be the trouble, Love?" he questioned.
Maggie took a deep breath before answering. "I wanted to apologize for my outburst at breakfast. I was disappointed about my situation, but I had no right to take it out on anyone, least of all you. I'm so sorry, Len," she murmured.
"Oh, darlin'," McCoy whispered, then pressed his lips to Maggie's temple. "It's okay that you feel that way. You know you can always talk to me when that happens. So, wanna give it a try? Tell me what's going on in that pretty head of yours?" he asked.
She nodded slowly. "I....have no plans for shore leave. My brothers and their families will be on a month-long cruise in the Caribbean with non-refundable tickets. Ruthie's nowhere close to Earth, still on board the USS Pegasus. Jim's going to Iowa, Spock and Uhura have plans and you're going home to Georgia. Once I added all of that up, I felt incredibly....lonely," Maggie explained, a few tears leaving her eyes.
"Hmm. I can see why that would make you a little unhappy. I have an idea, though. What if you came home to Georgia with me?" he suggested.
Maggie sat up in surprise to look McCoy directly in the eyes. "Are you serious? Wait, I-I don't want to intrude on your time with your family, Len," she replied hesitantly.
"Sugar, you would not be an intrusion whatsoever. Frankly, I've been trying to figure out a way for you and my ma to meet each other anyway. What do you say? Will you come home with me to Georgia and meet my family?" he grinned.
A huge smile broke out over Maggie's face as she threw her arms around McCoy's neck and kissed him soundly on the lips. "I would love to come home with you, Len. I love you so much," she replied, whispering the last part.
"I love you too, darlin'. Now, what say we have some of this delicious lunch you brought, and then we can tell Ma the great news?" he asked. Maggie nodded enthusiastically and started to dish out the food she brought with her to Leonard's office.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Soon, the day arrived for everyone to start their two-week shore leave. The shuttle took Maggie and Leonard to the station on Earth. McCoy's sister, Donna, had left his truck in the parking lot. He helped Maggie get up into the truck, then stowed their bags in the truck bed.
Leonard turned the key in the truck's ignition, bringing it roaring to life. He turned to Maggie and grinned, because he couldn't wait for his mother to meet his best girl. He knew that they would get along, with his ma fussing over her, wanting to make sure she felt welcome. Maggie would be as sweet as ever, making sure his ma didn't go to any extra trouble just for her.
Leonard stretched his arm across the back of the bench seat. Maggie slid over to the middle of the bench seat and snuggled up next to him. McCoy placed a sideways kiss to Maggie's temple and curled his arm around her, keeping her close to his side. Maggie placed her right hand on Leonard's chest and gave a contented sigh.
The more miles that ticked by, drawing them ever closer, the more nervous Maggie became. What if she doesn't like me? What if she doesn't think I'm good enough for her son? These were the biggest doubts screaming through Maggie's head as she thought of meeting Mrs. McCoy.
"You know, I can hear the wheels turning in your head, Sugar. Relax, please. Just be yourself, that sweet, loving woman I know you are. Within five minutes or less of meeting you, she's going to love you as much as I do. Hell, she'll love you so much, that she'll likely end up disowning me and adopting you," he chuckled.
His remarks seemed to reassure Maggie about meeting one of the most important women in Leonard's life. Before they knew it, they had reached the McCoy family homestead. Leonard put the truck in park and turned off the engine. He exited the vehicle and walked around to the passenger side, which was closest to the house.
Maggie also descended from the truck, but after she closed the door, she leaned up against it, choosing to hang back a little. She saw a woman of medium height with short, gray hair step out onto the porch, drying her hands on a towel. Upon sight of her son, Eleonora McCoy slung the towel over her shoulder and walked towards him, arms outstretched.
"As I live and breathe. Oh, Leonard, my son, it's so good to see you," she beamed.
"Hiya, Ma. It's good to be home to see you," he replied as he closed the distance and brought his mother into his embrace.
They clung to each other for a couple of minutes, then Mrs. McCoy stepped back to peer around Leonard. "Is that her?" she whispered excitedly, a gleeful smile across her face.
He chuckled and held out his hand for Maggie to draw her closer to his side. "Yes. Momma, this is my Maggie. Lt. Maggie Parker, I'd like you to meet my ma, Eleonora McCoy," he remarked.
Maggie held out her hand, which was shaking a little from nervousness. "It's a great honor to meet you, Mrs. McCoy. I've heard a lot about you," Maggie replied.
"Oh, you dear child, come here so I can give you a proper greeting," Eleonora gently chided, holding her arms out. "And please, call me 'Eleonora', 'Momma' or just 'Ma'," she added.
Maggie looked at Leonard, who grinned and nudged her towards his mother. Eleonora wrapped her arms around Maggie and gave her a little squeeze. Maggie could feel the warmth and welcome in the gesture and a few tears leaked from her tightly closed eyes.
The tears did not escape Eleonora's notice when she pulled back. "Leonard, I'm sorry, but I think I accidentally broke your girlfriend," she chuckled nervously. "Honey, is everything all right?" she asked with concern.
"Darlin', are you okay?" McCoy inquired, rubbing circles on Maggie's back.
"I'm fine, really. It's just that--your hug was so warm, it reminded me of the ones my mom used to give me. She and my dad have both been gone for six years now. I guess I didn't realize how much I missed them until right at this moment. Thank you for making me feel so welcome," Maggie finished.
"My precious girl, you are absolutely welcome here, we're happy to have you with us. Did Leonard happen to tell you how much I've been pestering him to meet you? I would've settled for at least a video message, but I'm much happier to have you here in person," Eleonora winked. "Now, follow me, and we'll introduce you to the rest of the family. Don't worry, dear, Leonard will get the bags," she grinned.
"Already on it, Ma," he called as he hoisted the bags from the truck bed to carry them upstairs to his old room.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Once inside the kitchen, a multitude of heavenly aromas assaulted Maggie's senses. "What is that divine smell?" she asked.
"That would be my secret family recipe for Chicken and Dumplings," Eleonora answered, beaming with pride. "Now that my son is home and with his beautiful girlfriend, I have been cooking up a storm since morning," she replied.
"What can I do to help?" Maggie inquired.
"You can let Leonard take you on a tour of the house, I'll be all right in here," Eleonora tried to assure the young lieutenant.
"I'm sure we can do that later, but there has to be something I can do to help. I'm pretty good in the kitchen, always used to help my mom. Please?" Maggie practically begged.
"Well....I was going to make a peach cobbler for dessert. If you'd like, you can peel and dice the peaches, then put them in this bowl right here," Eleonora suggested. She handed Maggie a bowl, while Maggie grabbed a knife and what would be the first of many peaches.
While Maggie and Momma McCoy were busy in the kitchen, Leonard was upstairs unpacking their bags. Once he was finished, he quietly came down the back stairs that led directly to the kitchen. His curiosity was piqued when he heard Maggie and his mother mention his name. By this time, Donna had joined them, so he paused on the stairs to listen in on their conversation.
"You sure seem to know your way around a kitchen, Maggie," Eleanora remarked. "I appreciate the help."
"My pleasure, Momma," Maggie replied with a smile. Leonard grinned when he heard that. To him, it meant that Maggie was feeling more comfortable around his mother.
After a bit, Eleonora wandered over to the sink to check Maggie's progress in dicing the peaches. "Once you finish that one, I think we have enough for the cobbler," she declared.
"I can't wait to taste the 'fruits of our labor'," Maggie quipped, throwing everyone into a fit of laughter, including Leonard himself, though silently.
Eleonora then laid a hand on Maggie's arm, causing Maggie to turn and lock eyes with Momma McCoy. "You know, after Leonard's divorce from Jocelyn, he threw himself into his medical studies. After that, he just concentrated on his work on the Enterprise. I'd get messages from him where he seemed happy enough, but I wasn't convinced that it was 100%. Even though he had Jim to help him through it all, I was really worried about him." Oh, Ma, Leonard thought.
"From what he's told me, the divorce was rough on him, especially since Joanna was involved. For anyone who loves Leonard, I'm sure that it couldn't have been easy to see him go through that," Maggie murmured. How right you are, my sweet darlin', Leonard silently commented.
"But now? Since he has you in his life, I see so many changes for the better. He's relaxed, he's content and he's in love, probably for the last time in his life," Eleonora remarked. "I want to thank you for seeing past his outer armor and helping to mend his heart," she added.
"That goes double for me. Len and I may not always agree on everything, as is usually the case with brothers and sisters. But I sure am grateful that he found you, Maggie," Donna chimed in.
"I appreciate the thanks, but the truth is, we've helped each other. I had an ex named Ryan that broke my heart by cheating on me with his high school sweetheart. But then I met your extraordinary son and brother, and he showed me what real love is. So please allow me to thank YOU for raising such a kind and honorable man," Maggie concluded.
As if on cue, Momma McCoy and Donna both swooped in and captured Maggie in a group hug. Gentle tears of happiness were shed between the three women as they embraced each other. Leonard recognized this as his opportunity to come out of hiding on the stairs. "I leave Maggie alone with y'all for five minutes, and look what happens. Y'all broke her again," he smirked.
The ladies giggled and stepped apart. Leonard got a playful punch to his arm from Donna and was pulled into a one-arm side hug with Eleonora. As they returned to their previous activities, Leonard took hold of Maggie's hand, then brought her into his embrace. They closed their eyes, rocking gently back and forth, lost in the feeling of being in each other's arms.
Maggie lifted her head from where it was resting on Leonard's chest. She reached up with her right hand and cupped his face, her thumb brushing gentle strokes on his cheek. "I love you, Leonard," she whispered, her lips curved into a shy smile.
"I love you too, darlin'. So very much," he whispered back. Leonard dipped his head and captured Maggie's lips in a soft, tender kiss.
"Oh, all right now, there's enough sugar in this peach cobbler without y'all dripping honey all over everywhere," Eleonora teased. She made a shooing motion with her hands as she guided them towards the door. "Go on, Leonard, show her around the place. But don't go too far, dinner's ready in about a half hour," she warned.
"Don't mind if I do, Ma," he answered. "Shall we go for a stroll, sweetheart?" he asked, holding out his hand for her to take.
Maggie captured his hand with hers, interlacing their fingers. "Lead the way, my love," she replied.
They left the kitchen through the door that led out to the porch. As they walked, Leonard began telling Maggie about his favorite memories of growing up on the family farm. After they were a fair distance from the house, Eleonora and Donna stepped out onto the porch to observe the lovebirds.
"She's cute, I like her," Donna remarked.
Eleonora nodded. "They're good for each other, and they make each other happy," she responded.
Donna placed a hand on her mother's arm. "I'm going to go in and check the cobbler," she said.
"Thank you, hun," she replied as she watched her daughter walk back into the house. "Oh, Leonard. She's a keeper. Hold fast to this one, my son," she whispered to herself.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Dinner was a lively affair, with each of the McCoy women sharing quite a few childhood stories about Leonard. He was a fairly good sport about it, until at one point, Eleonora threatened to show Maggie his baby pictures. His protests were enough that she ultimately decided to wait, saying she'd save that for the next time they visit.
After dinner dishes were done, everyone retreated to the front porch for some relaxation. Maggie and Leonard were snuggled up together on the swing, lazily rocking back and forth. Off in the distance, the fireflies were out, like little glowing yellow embers floating in the air.
Maggie was wearing a worn-out Starfleet Medical sweatshirt that she'd once 'borrowed' from Leonard and 'forgotten' to return. He pretended to frown, saying he'd been looking for the shirt for some time, only to find that his girlfriend stole it. Then he softly whispered that while he loves seeing Maggie in his clothes, he much prefers her out of hers. A blush crept into Maggie's cheeks at his remarks, which caused Leonard to chuckle and press his lips to her temple.
"Well, lovebirds, don't stay up too late. Oh, by the way, there's a festival going on for the next few days at the fairgrounds just outside of town. If you're looking for something to do," Eleonora mentioned before going into the house.
"Been a while since I've been to one of those," Leonard remarked. "What do you say, darlin', should we check it out tomorrow night?" he asked.
"You're the expert on the local attractions, my love," Maggie replied. "However, I think it sounds like a wonderful idea."
"If it's the one I'm remembering, it should have music and dancing. Would love to get you out on the dance floor, sweetheart," Leonard murmured in Maggie's ear.
"Mmm, slow dancing with you is something I would definitely be in favor of doing," Maggie said softly. "I think I might have even packed a dancin' dress," she added.
"Did you now? Well, that settles it, we have to go. I'll pick you up at 8:00pm. I'll be the one in the white hat," he grinned.
"It's a date, Cowboy," Maggie giggled.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The next day, Eleonora had made a list of things that she needed from in town. Some from the Farmer's Market, a stop at the hardware store and a couple of things from the pharmacy. Leonard volunteered for him and Maggie to run her errands, which also gave them time alone together.
First stop was at the hardware store, where everyone seemed to know Leonard. They all said how proud they were that he was CMO of the fleet's flagship. He thanked them all, and took the opportunity to introduce Maggie as well.
Next, it was more of the same at the pharmacy, with all the warm greetings and well-wishes. When he introduced Maggie as his girlfriend, one woman in particular, Janice Rollins, didn't seem happy to hear the news. She fawned all over Leonard, completely ignoring Maggie and the fact that she had been introduced as his current girlfriend. It was all Leonard could do to extract himself and get done what he went there to do.
After their business in the pharmacy was concluded and they were outside, Leonard explained that Janice was a former girlfriend. He assured Maggie that she had nothing to worry about. "My heart belongs to you and you alone," he remarked as they walked to the Farmer's Market.
"Leonard, I know that, I trust you. My heart belongs to you and only you," Maggie countered. "So, what does your ma have on her list from here?" she asked.
"Tomatoes, Brussels sprouts and potatoes, for starters," Leonard answered. "I'd like to get some corn on the cob, if they have it," he said.
Maggie took the map from his hands to study it, so Leonard wrapped his arms around her from behind. He looked over her shoulder, plotting the best pathway to get what they needed in the shortest amount of time.
Thirty minutes later, they had purchased everything on Momma McCoy's list, plus some additional items. Leonard bought Maggie a bouquet of fresh flowers. She in turn found a vendor with some rare vinyl of Leonard's favorite music artist. For dinner, they bought some thick, juicy hamburgers to grill from the meat locker on site. With their mission accomplished, the couple climbed into the truck and drove back.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Back at the house, Maggie helped Eleonora once again with dinner preparations. Leonard was in charge of grilling the burgers, while Maggie made potato salad from her mom's recipe. Eleonora also made some Bourbon Baked Beans and there was also leftover peach cobbler.
After dinner, it was time to get ready for the dance at the festival. Leonard showered first, then shaved his slightly scruffy face. He was wearing his dark wash jeans, his boots and a burgundy-colored button down shirt with a bolo tie. As he promised Maggie, he put on his white cowboy hat and waited at the bottom of the stairs.
Then it was Maggie's turn to get ready. After her shower, she towel-dried her hair and left it to cascade down her back in soft waves. She pinned it up on the sides with crystal-encrusted barrettes. Her makeup and jewelry were kept simple, with hoop earrings and the bare minimum on the cosmetics.
Her dress was black with cream-colored flowers sprinkled throughout the fabric. It was nearly strapless, with only thin spaghetti straps to hold it in place on her shoulders. The dress had a high-low hem, with the shorter hem in front that hit just above her knees. A pair of black suede ankle boots completed her outfit.
Just before heading down to meet Leonard, Maggie paused at the top of the stairs. She took a deep breath, then slowly descended. She could see Leonard with his back to the railing, so he hadn't seen her yet. She cleared her throat before speaking. "Right on time, cowboy," she remarked with a soft smile.
Leonard turned to watch his girlfriend make her way down the stairs. As soon as he saw her, his mouth ran dry and all coherent thought temporarily flew out the window. To him, she looked more beautiful than ever, if that were even possible. Her dress flowed elegantly with her as she walked and the hemline gave him just a quick, teasing peek at her shapely legs.
He removed his hat and held out his hand to guide her the rest of the way down the staircase. Still holding her hand as she reached the bottom of the stairs, Leonard brushed his lips across her knuckles. "Well, bless my soul, darlin', you look absolutely gorgeous this evening. Since I have the pleasure of your company, that makes me the luckiest cowboy 'round these here parts," he drawled.
Maggie ducked her head shyly to hide the color spreading across her cheeks. She stepped back a little to give him a quick curtsy. "You may not be the only lucky one. For me, I'd say you're also the handsomest cowboy I've seen in my life," she replied.
She placed her free hand on Leonard's chest and took a step forward so there was very little space between them. She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. Leonard, however, had other ideas, leaning towards Maggie to deepen the kiss. His decision was rewarded when he heard the tiny moan of pleasure escape from her mouth, and he smiled against her lips.
"We could just stay here, you know. Continue with what we're doing now, let the night take us wherever it leads," Leonard suggested as he started to gently sway back and forth.
"Mmm, as tempting as that sounds, you promised to take me dancing, Len," Maggie pouted.
"Ah, so I did, sweetheart. Your carriage awaits, my love," he gestured towards the door with the hand still holding his hat. "Ma, we're headed out to the festival. It'll be late when we get home, so we'll see you in the morning," he called over his shoulder.
Eleonora bustled out to the living room to see the happy couple before they left for an evening of dancing. "You both look amazing! Have fun tonight. And Leonard? Stay out of trouble, hmm?" she teased.
"I make no promises, Ma, but if anyone can keep me in line, it's Maggie," he grinned and gave his mother a wink. "Goodnight, Ma," he said as he dropped a peck on her cheek before heading out the door.
"Goodnight, my son. At long last, you've found your happiness," she murmured to herself.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
At the dance, the music was lively, with a variety of genres represented. It was mostly the vintage country music playing, which was best for the two-step, the waltz and line dancing. Maggie and Leonard danced to a few of the more upbeat songs, but got out on the floor for every slow song.
After one of the waltzes, they decided to take a break and get something to drink. Leonard found them an empty table and pulled out Maggie's chair for her to sit down and rest. He took the seat next to her, then leaned over to press a lingering kiss to her lips. He asked her for her drink order, then headed for the bar.
On his way to the bar, Leonard thought about how perfect the past couple of days have been. He'd introduced Maggie to his mom and sister, who loved her right away without question. Earlier in the day, he took her out and showed her the town where he grew up. Tonight, he had the company of the prettiest woman at the dance. Lucky cowboy indeed, he thought to himself.
At the bar, he gave out their drink order. As he waited, he noticed another man sitting on a barstool, nursing a whiskey. The men locked eyes, nodded at each other in acknowledgment, then returned to their previous activities. Every once in a while, Leonard would see him cast longing glances in Maggie's direction, which brought his guard up.
He was wondering how to bring it up without having to break the man's face, when he felt a tapping on his arm to get his attention. "Hey, buddy, do you see that woman over there? The one in the black dress?" the man asked, pointing towards Maggie.
Leonard gritted his teeth and answered that yes, he saw the woman in question. "She's a pretty hot one, no doubt," the man remarked. "She looks a lot like my....my....hey, that's my ex-girlfriend, Maggie Parker. And she's sitting there all by her lonesome," he said, waggling his eyebrows. "I should go over there and say hello," the man grinned as he placed his empty glass on the bar's countertop. He got down from his barstool and started walking towards Maggie, but Leonard stopped his progress.
The man glanced down at Leonard's hand on his upper arm. "Uh, say listen, Pal, you wanna take your hand off my arm? I'm not gonna cause trouble, I just wanna let her know that Ryan says 'hello'," Ryan glared.
"I think you'd better leave the pretty lady alone, Ryan. She's told me about you, and besides, she's way out of your league," Leonard retorted.
Ryan gave Leonard the once-over, as if trying to size up his competition. "What, do you think she's more likely to be in your league, old man?" Ryan snorted.
"For your information, Maggie's in a class by herself. But what you don't know is that she chose me, so I'm tellin' ya, it's in your best interest to back off," Leonard threatened.
With a huff, Ryan resumed his perch on the barstool, muttering under his breath. By this time, the bartender had finished making the drinks that Leonard had ordered. He picked them up, one in each hand, and headed back to the table.
Once there, he set the drinks down on the table. Leonard took both of Maggie's hands in his and pulled her up from her chair so she was standing in front of him. He moved his hands up so they were cradling Maggie's face, then he leaned in and crashed his lips to hers. She responded by sliding her hands up his chest and locking her fingers behind his head.
When the kiss was finally broken, Maggie was left nearly breathless. She smiled as she brushed her fingertips across Leonard's forehead and into his hair. "Not that I'm complaining, but what was that for?" she asked.
"To thank you. For choosing me. You could have any man in the universe, yet you chose me," he answered softly.
"Leonard McCoy, you don't have to thank me. I will always choose you. Every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. I love you," she replied.
"And I love you, Maggie. You wanna get out of here?" he asked, holding out his hand.
She nodded, taking his hand in hers. Then she heard the opening bars of "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, a song which had always been among her mother's favorites. Maggie tugged on his hand to catch his attention. "Dance with me? Please?" she asked.
"Always and forever, darlin'," he responded as he led her to the dance floor. He put his hands on Maggie's hips and she put hers around his neck. Maggie rested her head on Leonard's shoulder and closed her eyes as they swayed in time with the music.
As the last notes of the song faded away, Maggie looked up into the face of the man she loved. "Shall we head back now?" she asked. Leonard nodded and kept hold of Maggie's hand, interweaving their fingers. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it, causing her to giggle and blush.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The rest of shore leave seemed to pass by in a blur for Leonard and Maggie. They went on picnics by the lake, some horseback riding, and more trips into town on errands for Eleonora. There were even a couple of occasions where Eleonora spent time at Donna's house. She didn't mind, saying that Leonard and Maggie should have some time to themselves at the house.
Then there were the nights spent laying on a blanket in the bed of the pickup truck, gazing up at the stars. Which may sound silly, considering that's where they spent most of their time. But, as Maggie pointed out to Leonard, the stars look different from Earth than they do in space. All he knew and could focus on was how beautiful Maggie looked by the light of the moon.
One night, they were sitting in the front porch swing, Leonard wedged into the corner and Maggie sitting between his legs. Her back was leaning against his chest, with her head rested on his shoulder. The lazy swaying of the swing would usually be enough to put her to sleep, but she was wide awake tonight.
Leonard had his left arm curled around Maggie under her chin, with his right arm draped across her midsection. Her arms matched his in position, and her hands were atop his with fingers interlaced together. Every once in a while, they would give each other a gentle squeeze, in part for affection and also for reassurance.
"Len? In case I didn't tell you, I've had such a wonderful time these past two weeks. Thank you for inviting me to come with you for shore leave," Maggie remarked.
"Oh, darlin', it's been a real treat for me too. Before I asked you, I wasn't sure how I was going to deal with being without you for two whole weeks. Thank goodness I didn't have to go through that," he chuckled, then placed a kiss to Maggie's temple.
"And your mother and sister are amazing, I already love them. I only had brothers growing up, and being around your ma helps me to miss my mom a little less. They were a good influence on you. Except where did you get your grumpiness from?" she teased.
Leonard shifted in the swing so he could look Maggie in the eyes. "It's sass, isn't it? You're sassin' me right now, aren't ya, little lady. Well, I'll fix you," he grinned mischievously just before he started tickling Maggie on her sides and under her arms. That sent her into a fit of giggles and nearly gasping for air.
"Can't....breathe!" she managed to get out.
"Say I'm not grumpy, and I'll quit," he promised but was still randomly hitting her ticklish spots.
"Okay, okay," she wheezed. "You're not grumpy. You're adorable," she replied before capturing his lips with her own. Their mouths moved together in tandem, pressing and pulling in a delicate dance. "I love you, Len," Maggie whispered when they'd finally pulled apart.
"I love you too, Sugar," Leonard whispered back.
"I want you to know something else, and I'm just going to come out and say it. Leonard, you're 'it' for me. When I see my future, you're the only one I see it with. I realize that we've both been burned before, and….and I'm not asking you for more than you're ready to give. Just know that I'm here for you and that I love you with all my heart," Maggie declared.
Leonard was silent for what felt like an agonizingly long time to Maggie, before he spoke again. "You know, after what happened with Jocelyn, I'd pretty much sworn off of women. I was afraid of making the same mistakes again if I got into a relationship. And I didn't want to put anyone else through that, let alone myself."
"Oh, Len," Maggie whispered, but then Leonard put a finger to her lips. "Hey there, shh. It's my turn now, Love," he playfully scolded. Maggie nodded and gave him a small smile.
"Then I met you, my little spitfire, and all of that changed. I'm not afraid to fall in love anymore, because I already have. Maggie, you're 'it' for me, too. I know that my future isn't complete without anyone but you in it as my leading lady. If you can be patient with me on the 'more' part, I know we'll get there eventually. I love you with all my heart, Maggie," he concluded.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
All too soon, shore leave came to an end. With heavy hearts, Leonard and Maggie packed their belongings and put their bags in the trunk of Donna's vehicle. Her car was big enough so that Eleonora could accompany them to the station. She wanted to be there to see her son and his girlfriend off before they had to catch the shuttle back to the Enterprise.
At the station, everyone hesitated for a little bit before finally climbing out of the car. Leonard retrieved their bags from the trunk and set them on the curb. He turned to his mother with his arms wide open. "Bye, Momma. It was great seeing you, and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. Thank you for having us," he murmured, holding her tightly in his embrace.
Eleonora rubbed her hands in circles on his back. "You know you're welcome at home anytime, Leonard. Just don't make it so long between visits, bring your lovely girlfriend with you, and everything will be fine," she remarked.
"I'll try and visit more often, and I'll definitely bring Maggie with me. Love you, Ma," he whispered, then gave Eleonora one last squeeze. Before he let her go, she whispered in his ear about the surprise she had tucked into his bag.
Maggie had finished saying her goodbyes to Donna, then moved to hug Eleonora. "I had a wonderful time, and I loved meeting and spending time with you all. Thank you so much for having us, and I hope we can visit again soon," she said, giving Eleonora a fond embrace.
"You take care of yourself, sweet girl, and keep watch after my Leonard. He's my son, but Lord knows that man needs someone to keep him in line," she chuckled, as did Maggie. "You come visit anytime, we'd love to have you. By the way, I slipped something into your bag. Just a small gift, from me to you. A little reminder of your trip here," Eleonora mentioned.
A soft look crossed Maggie's face as tears prickled behind her eyes. "Thank you, Momma. You know, I think you and my mom would've been good friends," she remarked as she moved in to hug Eleonora once more.
Overhead, they heard the announcement for Leonard and Maggie's shuttle flight back to the Enterprise. One last round of hugs for everyone, then the couple picked up their bags and headed for the platform.
Eleonora and Donna watched as Leonard and Maggie walked away, each with an arm slung around the other's waist. Donna moved to stand beside her mother, and sighed deeply in contentment. "They're so good together. I'm glad they found each other," Donna stated.
"Yes, I am too. Wouldn't be surprised, though, if we were to hear some news from them in the near future," Eleonora replied with a mischievous grin.
Donna looked at her mother with narrowed eyes. "You know something, don't you? What is it? Tell me!" she demanded, but Eleonora refused, just kept the grin on her face. "Fine. Don't tell me," she grumbled as they climbed back into the car and headed home.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Back in their respective quarters, Leonard and Maggie set about the task of unpacking. As Maggie separated her clean clothes from ones to be laundered, a piece of paper fluttered to the floor. She picked it up and started reading it, her hand flying to cover her mouth. She almost didn't hear the door chime, signaling a visitor. On the second chime, she murmured 'come in' and the doors slid open to reveal her boyfriend on the other side.
"Hey, darlin', whatcha got there?" Leonard asked before wrapping his arms around Maggie from behind. He peered over her shoulder to see that she was reading a recipe in his ma's handwriting for her Chicken and Dumplings. "Whoa. Where did you get this?" he whispered.
"Your ma said she slipped something in my bag, as a reminder of our trip there. I don't understand, Len," Maggie replied, a confused look on her face.
Leonard took the piece of paper and held it up to Maggie. "This....has never left my ma's kitchen, not to my knowledge...." he trailed off. He placed the paper on Maggie's desk, then taking both of her hands in each of his.
"I still don't understand, Len," Maggie stated.
"Giving you this recipe means she loves you, sweetheart. And she knows you love me, but more than that, she trusts you. I know you were worried about meeting her, if she was going to like you. Darlin', after meeting you just this once, she already considers you part of the family," he finished with a smile. Someday, I hope that we can make that a little more permanent, he said to himself, as he thought of what his ma put in his bag.
Maggie tucked the paper into a drawer with her other valuable paperwork, then wound her arms around Leonard. Her hands clasped behind his head, she gently tugged downward until her lips met his. Just before things could get too heated, she pulled back to gaze into his perfect hazel eyes. "Shall we head to the mess hall, see who's back and do some catching up?" she asked.
Leonard pressed a lingering kiss to Maggie's forehead. "Sounds good to me, Love," he replied. With their arms curled around each other, they walked down to the mess area to catch up with their friends.

A/N: Ahh I'm sorry I've been so lacking in posts and writing!!! I thought you all deserved a non-therapy fic lol and though this was not at all any of the ideas I was planning on writing, it just sorta happened :P I don't hate it, but I'm definitely not as proud of it as other pieces. It's not my typical style, which feels a lil weird. Still, there are some lines I like a lot! This is as close to smut as I think I'll ever get, so I hope you like it! Thank you for being so patient with me and my lil break. It means the world!!!!!! Feedback is always appreciated 💜💖💜

Original sin. Not an act against god, but yourself. Going against every instinct, every moral standard you hold for yourself. A moment of self destruction, weakness, a lapse of judgement. Blinded by the gleam of a razor, a decision too enticing, too moronic not to give into. You spoiled him. Let him think he was the one in control, that he had power, that this could be anything more than a kiss, a touch, a fuck. Sweet boy, playful, but he should have known better than to fall for someone who'd rather not sink so low for him. He was the one on his knees, after all. You had ambitions, goals, wants and needs outside of being someone's emotional whore. Believing himself all powerful, all knowing, you would have thought he'd seen the signs soon enough. A life ahead of you left undecided, with no rules, no expectations. Human nature. Someone who'd shared enough nights with faces without names, this was no different.
This was another place to pass through, another person to become and shed when the time was right, another body sleep beside, nothing more, certainly something less.
Hickeys painted cross his neck. Kisses running down your back, between your thighs. Biting, nibbling, giggling between sheets, beneath the shirts you pulled off, discarding all your worries and fears, forgetting too quickly about your responsibilities. It was never supposed to last this long, go on as long as it did. An accident, the first time. A mistake. Slipping from his sheets the next morning, quiet as you could, returning before the sun peaked above the rooftops, wanting nothing more than to wash the smell of him off you. Your boss. The same man who signed your checks, at least for the time being. Taking his phone calls. Passing messages. Learning his schedule, his day to day. Pulling you through the front door, pressing you against the walls. Funny. You would have thought he tasted nothing more of whiskey and hellfire, his words nothing but blown smoke. Sweet nothings in your ear. Curious hands. Nothing but hungry, starved, willing to do anything to make your night.
It was nice, really, to be so wanted, mourned, silently searching the empty space beside him, especting your naked body, but it couldn't happen again.
Until it did. In his office. His bed. His shower before work. The back room. The fucking kitchen. Too many places, too many times a second to dress, to make yourselves presentable. Telling him what he wanted to hear, what he needed to hear. Needing to be pleased, praised, feed his ego before you could get what you wanted. Never what you wanted. A fling, something without a label, no strings attached. It was never a trick, a sceme, merely something dragging on, half alive waiting to die. Things like this, it made you stupid. In the heat of it all, made words trickle from your mouth, from his, that shouldn't have been said. Too used to getting his way, for the world to bend over backwards for him, you had to be the one on top, shoe him the only one in control of this was you. Put him in his place before it got away from him any further.
Two different realities.
One of passion, love, something more. Deranged. Almost felt sorry for him. Fooling himself, causing more pain than ever intended, slicing himself up with his own razors so willingly, so blindingly. The other, something to pass the time, to make things a little less lonely and a lot more exciting. Reality. It was never meant to be anything more. You knew who he was, what he did. You saw a man very different leave the bar than who walked in. How the glass smashed between his fingers, how he bit the bullet, chewed the barrel of a gun if he had to, the cold of his skin when the air changed. More enemies than friends. A wait list instead of a hit list. Too many bullets for a single body. You knew better than to play with fire when all you wore was gasoline. He could pretend to be careful. Thoughtful. Genuine. But he'd light his cigarette with the burning flesh of you without a second thought. Keep your distance. Never get too close, no matter how close you were. Not for a second believe the things he said. Rehearsed. Effortless. How many times had he moaned those same things? To how many unsuspecting bodies?
Catching eyes, attention. If it wasn't those eyes, it was his stride, that wicked look, or that egocentric way of thinking. Whatever it may be, it was a trap. A web they found themselves caught in before they even realized, believing he truly loved them, that they weren't his flavor of the week, that a man who had everything really needed them in his life. Show him how it felt. To be screwed over. A glimpse of what he put them through. Never taking no for an answer, he'd have to learn to sit and beg. This wasn't the place for you. Not the home, or the job, not a place you wanted to settle, to set root. You warned him, you'd be gone before he knew it. In the blink of an eye, and yet he was naive enough to fall. Tripping over himself, banging his head on the way down, catching it on a sharp corner. Believing sex was love, and love was sex. Try all he wanted, you knew the ins and outs of him. You knew him better than he knew himself. What would make him crumble, struggle to breathe, what made him tense, his jaw lock, what made him melt between your arms.
You never meant for it to happen, but you were glad it did.
Let him know what it felt like to be on the receiving end. Lord knows how many he left freezing in their sheets, believing what they had was anything more than a kiss, a touch, a fuck.

Whatever It Takes
Avengers: Endgame - IronWidow fix
Tumblr media
Something happened.
Tony knew it. He figured it out through the empty space beside him, the discarded pillows, his bare body under the sheets, and her scent mixed with the vodka which they shared.
Natasha was there. And she was gone before he woke up.
He shut his eyes again. Scenes from the previous night started replaying in his mind. They had more than enough liquor but they were not drunk, he was sure of that. He was aware of what was happening from the time he leaned dangerously closer towards her and planted a chaste kiss on the corner of her lips. If she tried to stop him, he would have backed off. She did not.
He groaned, mind blurred of what to do next.
Was he supposed to call or message her? Check where she was? Ask why she just left? Say he was sorry?
But he wasn't a bit sorry for what happened. He wanted it... since when, only heaven knew. The question was if she wanted it the same way, or she has regretted it the moment she woke up and realized what they have done.
Eight months ago, they lost to Thanos. He snapped and gone was 50% of the living, including the closest people to him and to her. Peter was dusted in his arms in Titan. Clint lost his whole family, which eventually led to Natasha losing her bestfriend in him also.
When Tony was rescued in space by Nebula and Captain Marvel, he returned to a very quiet compound. Natasha, Steve, Bruce and Thor were the only ones left there. Rhodey and Pepper came the soonest they got the word about his return. They arrived as he lay in the med bay with the only female Avenger left watching over him.
The reunion was a lull before the storm that was his confrontation with Steve. The pain, the betrayal, the anger he harbored in his chest for their Cap since Siberia made him snap, too. What remained of his belief that they could avenge for the earth when they could not protect it - dusted. That night, Natasha went to his room and apologized for the hurt that she also caused him. He has long forgiven and understood her, and he let her stay until he slept.
The next day, he learned that the team has traced Thanos and attacked him to retrieve the infinity stones, in high hopes that they could still revert what happened. They did not get them... not even one.
Days later, Tony got well and chose to move on, opting to live alone this time in a lakehouse far from the city. He worked for Stark Industries, his own company still managed by Pepper, remotely. He enjoyed a more private life.
Among the then-Avengers, it was only with Natasha that he communicated. Bruce and Thor disappeared to somewhere he did not mind knowing about. They needed to rest, too. Steve stayed behind but opted to lie-low from being a supersoldier. While she, keeping herself together, continued to do work and organized a new team which could look after what was left of the world. With much respect for her choice, he made it clear that even if they were already far from being teammates, he was just a stone throw away especially for her, always.
And it was because of that mutual understanding that Natasha knocked on his door last night and broke down after a few glasses. Both of them were still grieving for their losses, no matter how hard they hid it. Both of them were still looking for answers even if it looked like they have moved on. Both of them, at the back of their minds, were still hoping that they could bring everyone else back.
Vulnerable, they succumbed to the temporary aid which they could get from each other on his bed. It wasn't hurried, but every touch, every move, every moan was desperate to satisfy their need for comfort. Once was not enough. They gave in again. And again...
Tony cleared his head with a cold shower then decided to go to her at the compound. He did not know what to say; he just had to see her first.
Natasha sat on her work desk, going through whatever she was doing on her laptop, when he entered her office.
"Tash," he stood before her table.
"What's up, Stark?" She did not even look up to him.
It felt like a kick on his gut. "So we're back to surnames only. That's cool," he replied with pure sarcasm.
"If you're here to talk about what happened, you shouldn't have bothered."
"Why not?"
She chuckled. "We're two consenting adults. It's done and over."
He followed her with confused stare and rising irritation as she walked to the side table and made a sandwich.
"What the fuck did you just say?"
Natasha raised her eyebrows to him. "Why? Oh don't act too modest on me. That's the least I will expect, especially from you."
His fists balled inside his pockets, he filled his lungs with much-needed air. "I'm not here to say I am sorry for what happened because really, I am not."
"Then? Don't tell me you worry about me getting..." She paused but he got it. "You know that's impossible."
"Natasha -"
"I'm not gonna run after you because of what happened, Stark. It was just good sex."
His face heated up and his teeth clenched so tight that it already hurt - whichever hurt more, his jaw or his heart, he didn't care. Before he could do something he would regret more, he turned to leave immediately, shutting the door loudly behind him... missing to catch Natasha's rattled expression, trembling lips and teary eyes.
That was the last time they saw each other.
*****
Four years later, Natasha appeared at his doorstep again - this time, with Steve and Scott Lang, presenting a possible way to get back what they lost to Thanos.
Quantum realm. Time heist.
"The stones are in the past. We can go back. We can get them," Steve said.
"We can snap our own fingers. We can bring everybody back," she added.
"Or screw it up worse than he already has, right?" he quickly countered, eyes bore into green ones.
His two other guests tried to justify some more, but each argument, he had an answer to.
Finally, Natasha spoke again. "Tony, we have to take a stand."
Great, she just called him by his first name again, reminding him of the good relationship they shattered with one steamy night followed by a more heated encounter.
"We did stand. And yet, here we are," he couldn't help being straightforward.
She turned her head, looking away.
He sighed. "I wish you'd come here to ask me something else. Anything else."
Natasha never looked at him again until the three of them left. His chest tightened even if it was him who declined their proposal. He knew he hurt her by crushing her hope. But he was actually scared to try again and fail. There was a bit of probability that they might do it right but he could not risk, could he? It would be too painful, if they would be lucky to even live after, that is.
When he lied down that night, in the same room where they spent that one night together, Tony still could not rest his case. He remembered Peter. He remembered Clint's lovely family. He thought about Natasha... and how she would have looked happier if he said yes to their idea that afternoon.
Those thoughts and the tiny bit of probability pulled him up from his bed to his little workshop.
*****
He made it work and they did it. They, the Avengers, won this time around.
After they collected the infinity stones from the past, with Clint's inevitable sacrifice in Vormir, and despite the accident that brought Thanos and his troop to the present, they managed to pull through in the battle. Bruce as the Hulk snapped with the gauntlet that Tony made and the bad guys turned to dust.
They lost two heroes in one day... but the ones who have returned, together with the four Avengers left, swore to their gravestone that the earth, with their loved ones in it, would be protected again at all cost.
Steve went back to the past to return the stones in their respective places. But he did not come back. They should have figured it out when he said goodbye to Bucky and left his shield to Sam before he stepped into the time heist.
Thor, sober and with renewed determination after he has spoken with Almother, led the New Asgard with Valkyrie.
Tony and Natasha promised to keep the rest of their team together whatever it takes. But it had to start by fixing what was between the two of them...
Like the night of Tony's return from space five years ago, she went up to him. He was awakened by movement on the bed in his room in the compound. The next thing he realized, the redhead was snuggled up on him, her arms around his neck, hands clasped on his nape.
"Tash..." He called her name softly and kissed her hair.
"Thank you, Tony."
Natasha looked up to him, and as his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he caught her eyes shiny with tears.
"I don't and won't ever take full credit of our win, if that's what you are thankful for," he smiled as he wiped her eyes with his thumb.
She shook her head. "I thank you for trying one more time. It wasn't a simple decision, I know. You've left this life behind for a more peaceful one and moved on," she caressed his cheek. "Now you're back here with us."
Tony shifted their positions so he was half hovering comfortably over her.
"When I was trying to figure out how we could pull off that quote-unquote time heist, you know what was on my mind?"
"What?"
"Oh, it wasn't a what but a who," he tapped his point finger on the tip of her nose. "You."
"Tony..."
"I haven't said it yet but I really like it better when you call me by my first name."
She sighed. "I'm serious."
"Same here. So serious about you that I risked screwing up reality."
She fell silent as she just stared into his eyes.
"Guess that's another way of saying I love you, Natasha. I've always cared so much about you... Damn it, I can't even stay mad at you for 24 hours straight."
"I'm not good with words, Tony."
"Not a problem."
His hand trailed from her side to her hips to the small of her back and pulled her closer to him, the same time that Natasha lifted her face to meet his lips that instantly opened up to hers.
That one night long time ago was never enough. They gave in again. And again. And again.

[secrets: part five]
[part] one two three four
You were the most confused you had ever been since transferring to Midtown High two years ago. Your new life in the New York town seemed pleasant and pretty simple - no mean girls, not too many annoying kids, and being able to befriend the one girl who kept to herself every minute of the day. The rushed and partly awkward text messages from Peter the night before never left your mind. They were all you thought about the rest of the afternoon into the night, and even carried on while walking to school the following morning.
Now you sat behind him and Ned in science class, glancing between the two of them each time they would whisper to each other whenever the teacher’s back was turned. It would’ve been so much easier to act nonchalant if Michelle were in the same class, and while she had the same teacher it was during a different period. So you were stuck with writing notes that you were never able to give Peter because your teacher was always facing the class when you planned to. It was only near the end of the class where the opportunity presented itself. You scribbled down several words and tossed the crumpled paper at the desk in front of you. Peter glanced at the object, opening it to see what was there. He sighed inwardly, Can you tell me now? Persistence was something you both shared, but he didn't find it to be a good thing for this situation. He turned just enough to look back at you and subtly shook his head, earning a pout from your end. When the bell signalling the end of class rang, you swiftly wrote down the homework and put everything inside your bag, leaving the room to head to your locker. Peter sighed when you didn't wait for them like you usually did, packing up his own stuff and looking over at Ned. “I think I should just tell her.”
“Seriously?” Need raised his eyebrows at his friend, following him outside of the classroom. He lowered his voice once they were crowded by the other students. “Dude you didn't even tell me, I found out with you climbing on your ceiling.”
The light brunette sighed. “It's just too much. First the Stark thing pushes her away, and only two weeks later she's upset because she knows I'm hiding something from her.” Peter's hands moved around while he gestured. They reached his locker and he stopped, seeing you down the hall talking to people from the Decathlon team with MJ right beside you. Said girl noticed Peter staring and nudged your shoulder, nodding her head toward him. When your gazes met he waved slightly, but you barely gave a smile before re engaging in the conversation. He groaned, putting his head inside of his locker.
“Have you had Spider-Man visit her yet?”
“I'm starting to think it isn't such a good idea.” He responded, his voice muffled. Ned shook his head and pulled his friend back out by the shoulder. “What would I even say? 'I know we met once but I heard you like me and you shouldn't because I'm a guy that shoots out webs and climbs walls and I'm dangerous for you’?”
Ned’s eyes widened and he put his hand back on the  boy's shoulder. “Whoa, breathe. How about you just start with hi?”
After pretending to think about his previous plan for a minute, he shook his head vigorously, walking down the hall with his best friend jogging a few steps to catch up. “No, nope. I'm not doing it.”
•••
He was perched atop the ledge of the apartment building beside yours, watching as you sat at your desk. He felt like a creep, and he probably was one at that moment. It was just hard for him to believe he was actually going along with the plan after refusing to do it this morning. Thankfully it was dark enough to where you didn't notice him when you'd passed your window. However, after a short significant amount of time he started to feel very awkward and decided to just interrupt whatever you were doing. After placing the mask over his face, he jumped down from his hiding spot, landing quietly.
You turned toward the window after hearing a couple of knocks. None of your friends were coming over, and even if they were Peter was the only one who used the fire escape outside of your room. Cautiously you approached your window, peeking in from the side to find an assumed teenager standing outside in red and blue. You sighed in relief, your muscles relaxing once you recognized the figure as the neighborhood's hero. You opened the window with a brow cocked in confusion. Sure it was cool having him visit you, but it was night and as far as you knew since the last encounter, he didn't know where you lived. “Um, hi?”
“Hey!” The spider boy attempted at leaning against your window frame, missing it and almost tumbling into your room. He pulled himself upright and looked at you, “How's it going?”
“Fine.” You watched him warily, “Did you follow me that one day or something?”
“What? No! I-I just know someone who knows you.” He stuttered out.
You narrowed your eyes, “Riiight.. Why are you here exactly?”
“Well, um, you see-” He stopped himself short when there was a noise coming from the other side of your door, followed by a male voice calling your name. You reassured the man you were just on the phone, but underneath Peter's mask was a confused expression. You didn't live with anyone else except your older sister, Katrina, but you seemed very familiar with the person. You never really talked about your family either, now that he thought about it.
He blinked when you snapped your fingers in front of his face. He didn't even notice you moved out into the fire escape. Noticing he came back to reality you sat on the top step and patted the spot next to you. “You were saying?”
“Yeah. Um.” He took the empty spot and put his hands in his lap, glancing over at you. “I heard that you may like me, or want to be close to me.” You shrugged, not denying nor agreeing with the statement. “Do you?”
You sighed. “Look, I thought I did. After giving it some thought I'm pretty sure it was only because you saved me. You were really nice and heroic, but it's kind of your job to be, so it's whatever.” You finished, looking out at the part of the city you could see.
Peter bit his lip, going over what he would say so he wouldn't sound too much like himself. He felt bad trying so hard to get you to stop liking this side of him, but your safety came first. He let silence overtake the moment for a minute or so before speaking up. “It's really not good for you to be around me, anyway. Being friends with me attracts unwanted attention to you, and I can't put you in danger.”
You hummed, tapping a beat with your foot as you took time replying to him. “So you stalked me so you could tell me we can't possibly be friends. Thanks.” You patted his shoulder, standing up and sliding your window back up. When you were halfway through going inside your room you felt a hand on your wrist.
“I didn't mean to make you feel bad.”
You gave him a small smile. “I know. I have to get back inside. I'm sure you have to go, too.” You waved at the hero and fully entered your bedroom, closing and locking the latches on the window. Peter waited until you closed the curtains to leave, but the smile you gave didn't make him feel any less terrible. You didn't even know who was under this costume, but he could tell you were still hurt by the reason he stopped by. Though the intentions were good, he was sure he just added onto the small amount of stress you felt from knowing he had a secret from you.
It was significantly darker by the time he got to where he left his backpack, and he hurried home as quickly as he could, making it just in time to hear his phone ding. He jumped down from his ceiling and pressed the spider on his chest, letting the suit fall down and placing it somewhere safe. Once he was changed he grabbed his phone and threw himself on the bed, unlocking it once he saw your name on the screen.

You groaned after seeing the last message Peter sent you, laying back and throwing your arm over your eyes. If he was just as tired of keeping them as you were of never being told then why wouldn't he just tell you what was going on? You turned your head at the sound of your door opening and looked up to see your father figure leaning against the doorway. "You doing alright?"
"Yeah. Just stressed with school and everything." You smiled lightly, sitting up and gratefully taking the drink he brought.
He crossed his arms and stared you down, concern written all over his face. Though with the way his relationship with you was, he wouldn't really express his concerns unless it seemed absolutely necessary that you needed him to. He watched you stare at your phone, catching a glimpse of the name of the person you were talking to. Peter Parker. He resisted the urge to talk to you about it, and opted into the second thing he wanted to say. "If things are getting tough here, you can always stay with me."
"I know, and I really would, but I don't want to leave Katrina here. At least not if she isn't as willing to move all the way upstate. You know, with her boyfriend here and everything." You muttered, tracing the rim of the cup as you continued to stare at your phone.
"Maybe if you tell the kid you know me, he'll loosen up a bit."
You shook your head, "I'm pretty sure he knows. It doesn't matter anyway."
He hummed in thought, choosing not to press on the matter any further until you looked more open to the topic of the other teenager. "How about I have someone pick you two up when you're on your first break from school? Let you guys clear your heads and relax."
"Your level of relax or mine?" He chuckled, knowing you referred to all the free time he spent on upgrading and building new forms of technology, all while still keeping tabs on his young intern.
"Yours." You nodded with a grin and he smiled, tapping your door before he announced he was leaving.
Before he shut your door all the way you called him back, "Hey Tony?" He raised an eyebrow. "Thanks."
"No problem, kid."
