in which spencer helps university student reader de-stress after a particularly exhausting assignment
18+ (smut) warnings: fingering, overstimulation, happy crying, lowkey softdom spencer, slight d/s dynamics, reader is referred to as a girl, ????idk i've never had to tag for smut before lols wc: 2624 a/n: been doing some insane literary cooking. lots of smut AND more fluff in the works (all uni reader... lol... ). idk if i love this but again need to fucking get it out of my word doc so here u go, PLEASE lmk if you like it!!
You don’t even realize the room has gone completely dark until Spencer comes in the front door and flicks on the light.
“Why did you do that?” you snap immediately, looking up from your laptop screen for the first time in potentially hours, blinking hard as your eyes painfully adjust. Your boyfriend gives you an odd look.
“Hello to you too...”
“I’m sorry. Hi. How was dinner?”
“It was good,” he says, crossing the room to the couch that has been your entire world for the past five hours. You sigh, releasing some of the tension in your shoulders when he leans down to kiss your head and set down a to-go box on the coffee table. “Have you moved since I left?”
“...no,” you admit, moving your eyes dejectedly to the keyboard.
“You made progress,” he appeases, leaning over you to angle the laptop upward. Immediately you wrench it away, holding it protectively against your chest.
“Stop! I don’t want you to read it yet!”
“I could help you with it though,” he pleads, bracing a hand on the arm of the couch. You look up into his hazel eyes, where he’s definitely playing up the puppy dog factor. His tie brushes your stomach, and he smells like lavender and clove and--
“You need to go away,” you realize, snapping back to reality and shrinking into the couch, away from him—trying to escape his all-encompassing sensory presence.
“Wh- I just got back!” he scoffs, straightening.
“You’re distracting me,” you accuse, throwing him a baleful look.
“I’m literally offering to help you.”
“And I’m respectfully declining because I care too much about your opinion to show you this essay until it’s less terrible. I really just need a couple more hours to finish it, please?”
Spencer sighs, regarding your pitiful state before moving to sit down next to you. Automatically you move your legs out of the way before settling them in his lap and damn it he’s supposed to be going away. Your iron grip on the laptop involuntarily loosens a little as his hands begin to run back and forth over your legs. No—you must stay focused.
“Spencer,” you whine, flopping your head back. You let the implied complaint hang in the air.
“You’ve been writing all day. Your brain is exhausted, and your synapses aren’t firing at a rate that is intellectually productive.”
“What is the point of having a brain if I can’t even use it half the time!” you almost-shout, pressing the palms of your hands into your eyes until you see fireworks.
The couch shifts and you feel the warm, robotic weight of the laptop unpin you as Spencer lifts it from your lap. “Don’t read it,” you beg, watching through parted fingers as he sets it on the coffee table, and relaxing slightly when he settles back into the couch.
“Come here,” he says, holding out an arm. Too mentally exhausted to do anything but comply, you pull yourself up just enough to fall into him. Immediately he wraps his arms around you, one hand slipping under your shirt to rub your back in hypnotizing passes. “I think you burnt yourself out,” he mutters.
You nod into his shoulder, surrendering yourself to his warmth, letting yourself sink into a lavender-clove fog, wanting nothing more than to dissolve into it. The darkness behind your eyes glows an inviting amber, threatening to pull you under...
But the essay...
“Stop thinking about the essay,” he demands.
“But I have so much to do,” you sigh against his jacket, the words coming out muffled.
“The best thing you can do now is give your brain a rest. I promise you you’re not making that paper any better if you’re exhausted.”
“I am not exhausted,” you insist, although your eyes are still closed, “I’m just really stressed.”
Spencer hums, continuing to rub your back.
“Do you need me to help you relax?” he says innocently.
Oh?
One of your eyes opens to peer up at him suspiciously. He sweeps some of your hair out of your face.
“Because I would be happy to.” A moment passes—him looking down at you fondly; you wondering if you’re picking up what he’s putting down.
“And how would you go about doing that?” you ask suspiciously.
“Orgasms reduce tension and stress and improve brain function.”
Damn. Why did the nerdiest, most un-sexy pickup line ever just turn you on?
You groan, burying your face further into his shirt—mostly to hide any trace of a blush.
“You know what else would reduce stress and improve brain functioning? Taking an Adderall and finishing my fucking essay.”
“Angel, you're such a smart girl, and you are fully capable of doing whatever you set your mind to—but I will lock your laptop in my gun safe before I let you look at that essay again tonight.” He speaks so softly, and his fingers are still gently combing through your messy hair... all in all, you put up a good fight, right? Maybe you should just listen to him...
“... fine.” you say eventually, reluctant to give in too quickly even though the idea quickly has filled your stomach with butterflies.
“Fine?” he says, pausing his motions as you turn your head just enough to look up at him. “Sounds like you don’t really want it, baby. Maybe we should just go to sleep. Or I could take you back to your-”
“Spence,” you whine, gently grabbing the front of his shirt. Now he’s going to make you beg? As if it wasn’t his idea? Those puppy dog eyes of his are deceiving.
“You’re gonna have to do better than that,” he sighs, hand moving from your hair to your outer thigh.
“Please?” you whisper, dignity forgotten as you look up at him imploringly.
“Lean back, sweet girl,” he says, helping you adjust your position til you’re lying against his chest, legs sprawled across the couch. Your head lolls on his shoulder, intoxicated by his close proximity. “Perfect. Such a good listener.”
Normally, you’d be quick to make a defensive remark, but with the way he’s slowly hiking your shirt up, running his hands over your sides so lightly it gives you goosebumps—you're really in no position to argue. Your eyes flutter shut as his hands grow bolder in their explorations, crossing your stomach, fingers just slipping under the waistband of your shorts and skimming over your hipbones before coming back up.
“Does that feel good?” he murmurs, and you nod lazily, apparently losing access to your language facilities after running them dry all day. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem good enough for your boyfriend. “Do you remember when the last time I touched you like this was?”
Through the hazy blur of your exhaustion, you try to think back. Was it... two days ago? Three? More?
“Almost a week ago,” he supplies the answer for you when you take too long. What? That can’t be right.
But when you think about it harder... it is right. It was right before finals week started.
An errant hand straying up your torso distracts you. “Do you remember what I did?”
You flush.
“You... yeah,” is the best you can offer, too flustered to say exactly what he did to your body. That stray hand moves over your breast. Your back arches just slightly at the stimulation through the thin fabric of your bra.
Thankfully, he lets you off the hook.
“I made you cum three times, right?”
“Mhm,” you hum through closed lips, tense with anticipation as he finally slides both hands down to your shorts and wordlessly directs you to lift your hips so he can pull them all the way off along with your underwear.
“You’ve been so busy lately, huh. Working so hard.”
You unconsciously drop your bent legs open, brain too foggy to be insecure about how utterly bare you are—allowing him to slowly rub up and down your inner thigh.
“I’m gonna make you feel good, honey. I don’t think three times was enough for such a stressful week.”
You gasp when his fingers finally brush your clit, whimpering slightly when they just barely skim your entrance before tracing the wetness back up.
“Give me your hand,” Spencer says, taking his own from between your legs and holding it up. You don’t even think about it, releasing your grip on the arm he now has wrapped around you and holding it out for him. At this point, you’d do anything he tells you to without hesitation.
He takes the proffered hand, gently guiding it back between your legs. Your fingers meet slick, soft warmth. “Do you feel how wet you are?”
“Yeah,” you breathe, seeing how your fingers glisten when you pull them away. His remain, running slowly up and down your clit. Your brain seems to be vibrating in your skull as warmth spreads throughout your body.
“Who’s that for?”
“You, Spencer,” you whimper. He hums in approval before the room falls into silence as you both watch his teasing intently, your breath baited as you try to be patient. But your body isn’t with the program, you keep twisting slightly, your hips cant upward. “Please, please,” the words escape on a held exhalation as you finally break, arching your back against him as your search for more friction.
Without warning, he sinks two fingers inside you. The slight stretch after not having taken anything in a week scratches an itch you didn’t even know you had, and you let out a broken moan.
“I know, honey. You’re so good, I know.” Spencer kisses your head as he speaks over your cry, barely moving his fingers for a few moments while you get comfortable.
Still you’re not ready for it when he withdraws and pushes back in.
“Look at that,” he breathes.
“Oh, fuck,” you choke, watching how your arousal completely coats his fingers as he slowly, slowly begins to fuck you with them.
Again you feel the vibrations in his chest as he laughs slightly—probably at your earlier insistence that you didn’t desperately want this. The laughter fades as you both become entranced by the sight of his fingers disappearing into you, and your stomach twists with pleasure. His pace remains languid, and he seems to delight in the filthy, wet sounds his hand is producing between your legs.
“You okay, baby?” he asks after a moment, seemingly snapping out of some trance.
“Uh huh,” you whimper. One particular drag of his fingers at just the right angle has you dizzy, and then he’s speeding up. Your jaw drops at the change in pace and your hips chase his hand, wanting even more.
“So pretty,” he mutters as his other hand moves to spread you open.
You attempt to shut your legs around his wrist, but instead he just ruts his fingers deeper into you, palm pressed against your clit. You attempt to twist away from the extreme stimulation, but he doesn’t allow it.
“Too much,” you squeak, bucking your hips inadvertently.
“No it’s not,” he states, like you’re talking about the weather.
“Spencer, I really c- ah- can't!”
“It feels like a lot, huh?” he asks soothingly, not letting up one bit.
“Yes!” you cry, eyes stinging as tears begin to well.
“You’re okay, angel. It’s just been a while.”
You are so completely fucked. Each stroke of his hand feels like an electric jolt through your whole body. It is too much, but at the same time, pleasure is pooling deep in your stomach and at the base of your spine and you never want him to stop. You throw your head back onto Spencer’s shoulder, eyes screwed shut.
“Relax,” he mutters, carefully bearing down the pressure across your waist with his arm to try and keep you from squirming.
A rhythmic whine breaks through the barrier of your sealed lips as you focus all your energy into taking it, when the all-consuming need to kiss him hits you. You twist your neck to look up at him, observing the furrow of his brow and the way he’s tucked his bottom lip into a bite. Thankfully he notices your movement—his eyes dart from your own half-lidded gaze to your lips and he understands what you want.
The kiss is messy and the angle is awkward and you’re moaning into his mouth half the time anyway, but it feels so good to have his lips moving on yours that you don’t care about any of it.
“I—ah,” you cry into him, unable to form a coherent thought as your stomach drops like you’re mounting the peak of a roller coaster.
His fingers again change their angle and he finds the spot inside you that makes your legs spasm. Attempting to hold in whatever noises you were making is now futile—the whimpers and pants turn to full-fledged keening moans interspersed with taut silences as you fail to breathe properly.
Your wrench your gaze and lips away from Spencer to watch through a blurry haze the rapid movement of his hand between your bare legs, the way your hips buck and twist and the way your leg bends as he hooks his free hand under your knee and hoists it toward your chest.
“You’re doing so well, honey. Being so good for me.”
Moisture spills over from your eyes, tracing down your cheeks and down your neck as you begin to come with no warning and a desperate, broken cry.
A string of praise from Spencer underscores your pleading moans, but you can’t focus on anything other than the buzzing warmth emanating from your core, the bright, pulsing white that blinds you and the feeling of stardust flowing through your veins.
Your boyfriend continues pumping his fingers slowly in and out of you for a blissful few moments, before sensing the tail-end of your orgasm and bringing his fingers up to rub lazy circles over your clit. Aftershocks resonate from the hypersensitive area and make you clamp your legs shut around his hand as your toes curl and you attempt to squirm out of his grip.
“Done! I’m done,” you squeak, rocking your hips back and forth to try and escape his toying.
“Okay, okay,” he soothes, relieving the pressure of his hand between your legs and moving it to run over your stomach as you come down.
You lie in silence for a minute, enjoying the liquid sensation weighing down your muscles and basking in the warm afterglow of your orgasm.
“Shit,” you breathe shakily after a moment. Spencer chuckles. You manage to turn yourself over, laying your cheek on his shoulder and slipping your arms under his waist. He looks down at you as he moves on to massaging your back and bare hips, eyes full of warm adoration.
“Feel better?”
You hum an affirmation, wiping your eyes on his shirt.
“Oh, honey, did I make you cry?”
You laugh into his chest and nod, a few stray tears leaking from your shut eyes. “It’s okay. Not sad tears.”
“What kind of tears?”
“Orgasm tears,” you mumble, a tidal wave of exhaustion you’d been fighting all day finally washing over you.
“That makes sense. Orgasms can be cathartic or even therapeutic depending on your head space. Major losses and life changes are often associated with sexual dysfunction but the opposite is actually just as if not more common. A spike in libido can—”
Spencer pauses, looking down to see that you’re either asleep or close to it, and smiles to himself. You’ll probably be mad about it when you wake up, but he had to get you to stop thinking about that paper somehow.

my last reblog had me reminiscing on my early days in the phandom so i decided to compile a list of embarrassing dnp related things i did aged 11-15!
should i keep these to myself? probably. am i going to? absolutely not. here we go :)
1) i ran a dan and phil instagram fanpage and let all my irls follow it. when my friends would tag me on insta posts they would tag my phannie account
2) that account was called phans_special_snowflake
3) exclusively had dnp merch for school supplies. backpack. phone case. pencil case. everything.
4) when my english teacher asked what the d&p on my phonecase stood for, i confidently replied “dick and penis!”
5) i would watch dan and phil IN CLASS with no headphones
6) my spanish teacher asked me to send him a video so he could “see what dan and phil were all about”. i sent him I Nearly Blinded Myself as it was the most recent video at the time. he said it was “slightly inappropriate” and i had no idea what he meant
7) i wrote a persuasive essay on how dan and phil were secretly in love and in a gay relationship. i then read that essay in front of my entire class for a presentation grade. i got an A+ for both assignments.
8) i would tag dan and phil in EVERYTHING i posted
9) when i met dan and phil, i cried so hard that i walked away from them while dan was MID sentence trying to talk to me (phil said absolutely nothing to me. what a king)
i’m sure there are many many more things that i am missing but these are the ones that i remember most. honestly if i were to have a takeaway from all this, its that i LOVE my past self. i don’t actually believe in embarrassment or cringe. i was young and passionate and everyone knew it. are there things here that should make me cringe. yeah. definitely. but honestly, whats the point? i’ve grown up since then. why hate myself for what i didnt know? all i can do is laugh. and i mean come on… it’s so funny. 12 year old lydia the icon that you are. i was NOT afraid to be myself, and i feel like that has served me well. i’m really glad i grew up watching dan and phil. they’ve been great role models. especially as a young queer girl who was scared that she would never be able to find true love or happiness. so thank you to dan and phil for growing up with me! i’ve definitely come a long way :,)

blaire is peak and why rusty can't write truly evil women
If you've found this post, I don't need to introduce Leasebound to you.
Instead, we're going to talk about the fandom.
Leasebound's fandom has a sort of Lemony-Snicket-esque schism, with Rusty's intended audience and (hilariously) the exact opposite. I've seen both sides of the Leasebound audience, and I've noticed something interesting.
...nobody hates Blaire.
Tumblr media
Okay, that's a HELL of a sentence to make, and very exaggerated. I've seen 'Blaire unenjoyers' and other people treating Blaire like the Eric Cartman of Leasebound, it's an eye-catching statement that makes people read more of the text post.
But I wouldn't call it wrong, I'd give it a 'hyperbolic.'
Even on the side of Rusty's intended audience, Blaire isn't loathed. I've seen many enjoyers of Blaire who either talk about how much they went her to talk gender to them, so to say. On the flipside, the worst interpretation of Blaire is a misogynist who pushes her activism on other people, which is more or less her canon intent.
But if Blaire was as bad as Rusty Hearts portrayed her, I don't think we'd see so much art of Blaire. In fact, I put down a poll, and Blaire pretty much took the #1 spot for the 'character with the most fanart' almost instantly, beating out characters such as Jaden (who took silver), Riley, and Violet. And it pretty much sticks!
I've seen a lot of Blaire fanart from the Leasebound tag on both sides! I've seen a lot of Blaire discussion and discourse on both sides, either about the possibility of a redemption arc, a rewrite, thirsting over her, etc.
So...we can pretty much say Blaire is a bad strawman.
Strawmen are supposed to be one-note characters the main cast is supposed to be more interesting than and can fight with no pushback. Blaire is massively popular across the board in the Leasebound fandom, has discussions about her that are multi-layered, and has wonderful fanart from people that really like her.
Done. That's all.
But we're not done. We need to keep talking.
Rusty Leasebound is very good at some things. Her chapter focusing on Shez had emotional, gut-wrenching art, and there is a definite appealing quality to the way she draws things.
Some things, atleast.
But Rusty is not a great writer. There's tons of other essays and an entire discord server that can point all the flaws in her story out enough to write an epic worthy of the Mahabharata. Leasebound has largely forgotten what it is to be a mouthpiece for her political opinions, its characters are one-note and one-dimensional, she focuses on the wrong things at the wrong time, and many more that will make my fingers cry as I type this. But I want to focus of Rusty's tendencies to tell, not show.
Blaire is not evil. She's not even Maleficent or Ursula or Cruella evil. And she's no Makima either. Blaire is just a woman passionate about her beliefs, and makes the mistake of pushing them on other people. That's not evil, that's a flaw. Women cannot be perfect all the time.
But we're meant to believe she is evil. In this panel of the Actor!AU, we are TOLD by Rusty that Blaire is meant to be evil.
Tumblr media
Blaire isn't evil! Come back to me when she puts a living creature in a blender, or something!
While the statement is understandable, you're using it in the wrong way! Because there is no reason for the casual Leasebound reader to ever believe Blaire is evil, the way you portray her!
(Yes, casual Leasebound readers exist. Quinty's one.)
And there's multiple occasions of this 'tell, don't show' narrative Rusty keeps pushing.
For example: Meriam.
Meriam is told to be the protective, strong mother, but I'm not sure that's entirely the case.
Meriam has serious flaws in her parenting that is never acknowledged. Shez was made to basically worry for her siblings at a young age, which sounds horrible for a young girl.
(side note: criticism of the comic has often lead to more interesting, and realistic plotlines for leasebound to include.)
She's obviously traumatised, and it shows in her parenting. When she shuns out Rissa and her boyfriend; that's not good! If Rissa wants her family by her side, she won't get it because she's marrying a man. Meriam always keeps Shez on the pedestal like she's Luisa from Encanto.
Nobody asks how's Shez. Someone help Shez.
And there's so much more!
We get snippets of Riley, a MAIN CHARACTER'S backstory from one-off panels and dialouges, but we heard the majority of it from Rusty in the comment section, Rusty confirming fan speculation, the cast page, non-canon panels, etc. Nothing in the main story!
And that just makes Riley...really boring. The most interesting part of Riley is Blaire right now, and that's REALLY bad, considering we're supposed to dislike Blaire.
Here are some more examples of Rusty telling, not showing:
Muddles:
Tumblr media
Riley:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Various statuses of offscreen characters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blaire and many others of Rusty's characters have fallen into one of her biggest writing flaws' clutches, but it's interesting as to how fan perception and works have essentially made one of the most three-dimensional characters of the comic, aside from Jaden. And that's one of the main problems with Leasebound.
I want to end this with an open letter. I don't know if she'll read it, but if you do:
Listen to criticism, and find out what's wrong with your comic. Tune in to different parts of the fandom, even when you don't agree with them. At the heart of the war, we all share one thing: reading your comic. Don't take that for granted; many amazing, better written comics would love to have the attention you have. Your art is good. I enjoy reading Leasebound when it's about the characters, not how we're supposed to percieve them. You have something; harness it before it goes away! And at the rate Leasebound is going- it might go away really fast.
Thank you for reading. I don't have anything else to say.
...

(Masterpost)
Rules: - Vote for one of these two characters based on who you personally think should win. It can be anything from "I follow aseriesofunfortunatejan and she talks about this character way more" to "I know this guy and not the other guy" passing by "who are these? This one's hotter" and of course "holy shit this is ALSO my blorbo" - You may reblog this poll and you may even talk about why you voted for who you voted! - You may NOT complain about the other character if you dislike them! These characters are all the poll runner's beloveds and the goal of this tournament is to have fun, be silly, be nice, eat hot chip.
Introductions and updated propaganda (under the cut):
The end is near! Welcome to my second round of propaganda! If you wish to read my original propaganda for these characters - which I think you should, because it was great - please look through this tournament's tag on my blog.
Korekiyo Shinguuji is a staple of my blog. It hasn't happened in a while, but two of my character essays get recognised in the wild - my first Shinguuji essay and my "in defence of Mika Shimotsuki" essay. (But yous voted Shimotsuki out, so that probably doesn't hold a lot of weight.) If you've followed me for a while, you've probably seen a few of my "oh no. I thought about Shinguuji." posts in your lifetime. I don't know why he eats at me like this. I hear he's a little fucked up, actually, but that's just a rumour. Wasn't he reformed and a teacher now anyway? (/ref). Danganronpa is also a fandom I am known for, so that could influence your vote. (Do I have a tulpa?) Anyway, does all of this mean he should win my blorbo tournament?
River actually made it all this way! That's actually really touching. She is an extremely important character in To the Moon and she is one of these characters I unequivocally consider important to me. Among the four current contestants, she's definitely the oldest of my blorbos. (...In-universe as well. I have yet to see Sebastian in his old age.) She is an extremely touching character who carries with her a deep frustration her entire life - something with which I have found myself relating. She's also the only girl left among the contestants, so vote wisely! Like I mentioned in the previous rounds, the "river" in my art username "arollingriver" stands for her. Does this mean she should win my blorbo tournament? ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
Maybe if enough Shinguuji haters find this post?

Work For my Touch PT. 1 ♡
Pervert Teacher Lucifer making you feel something
Tags: Exhibition Thigh Touching i think-?
Sorry it's taking long <3
You ran to your RAD class sitting down in a back row seat. Everyone around you was talking in hushed tones. "Hes out sick for a day so Lucifer is subbing in since he's a year ahead of us."
Lucifer teaching- this gonna be a long class. You sighed as everyone sat up seeing Lucifer. He wore his RAD uniform with glasses as he stood in front of his desk. "Finish your essay it is due today and after 12 am I wont take it."
You weren't really listening while you just watched him talk as he kinda fit being a teacher. As you actually started paying attention you saw Lucifer smile at you. You blushed as you looked away from your crush.
From Lucifer's view with his heightened senses, he saw your nipples harden through your thin shirt. "Now do your independent work until class works." Lucifer said as he looked at you.
As he walked towards you, you tried opening your laptop and pull up your essay. "Mc, you really should cover up." Lucifer smiled as he stood next to you. "Ah Lucifer can you look at my essay please?" You groaned as you were embarrassed turning away.
"Of course my dear student." Lucifer said as he started reading it. You sat there awkwardly fiddling with your thumbs. "Mc you need better diction in the introduction." You nodded but found out Lucifer's hand was ridding up your thigh. "Hey what are you-" "This isnt true Mc the fact is wrong."
Lucifer wanted to tease you because he loved the thought of you being squirming for him is a wonderful image. That's why when he saw being your "teacher" would push his fantasy on you perfectly.
And besides you looked so needy how can he not?
You were touch starved as you wanted to mewl but Lucifer side smiled at you. "Only good girls get to have my touch." Lucifer sighed taking his hand away from your thigh. Lucifer wanted to tease you so he can see how desperate you will be. "Fix this essay and you will be rewarded."
You immediately started typing as you saw Lucifer give you a flew glances. Lucifer felt his hard on and cupped it as he groaned. The entire class was just finishing the essay as he saw you look at him.
As he stared at you he started touching his clothed erection as you were still confused. He opened his zipper as he touched his cock. He licked his fingered gloved seductively. You turned away as he laughed. Zipping himself up as he saw you turn red.
"Now dear work for my touch."

Blood Magic and Galdorstone Hearts on the Boiling Isles
I'm gonna preface that this is pure, fanficy speculation that will probably not see any return in the show but it makes me curious.
We know that wild magic on the Boiling Isles has corpse magic everywhere. We see these things for sale at the Night Market. We also have the Grimwalker recipe--which calls mostly for body parts of things...Let's talk a little bit about the potential ideology that formed the Isles' corpse/blood magic!
Tumblr media
We see during the "savage ages" Belos has a bunch of body parts on his table that have little price tags on them.
Tumblr media
We also see the one Portal diagrams show some of the components, which appear to include uh. A brain and a pair of kidneys?
Tumblr media
Luz and Eda's ratchet-ass door is played for laughs but even that thing shows that its strung together with organic bits, and of course in both cases the door is obviously partially composed of bits, powered by Titan Blood.
Tumblr media
But here's the thing that gets me excited as a possibility. Eda and Hunter helpfully inform us that Titan Blood is known as the most powerful source of raw magic on the Isles. Hunter even says that ancient witches used to mine it consistently. We've had some cool hints mostly through Eda and the Clawthornes that most of the pre-Belos ideology, the trad stuff, had a lot to do with a respectful, relationship to the land they live on, the Titan. It doesn't really give the vibes of like...Christian style worship. The Titan isn't a god, he's the land they all came from. This is kind of its own essay about colonialism in this show and how Belos has affected it, but the point is it sort of suggests a magical and philosophy of living based on respect for the land, and your place as PART of it, not its master.
ALL OF THAT TO SAY. A big part of how magical ideology and runes may have developed and evolved probably assigned ingredients alchemical correspondences. Runes are basically simple codes that can be built up to immense complexities. For example, lets look at Phillip's teleportation rune.
Tumblr media
See the fire glyph is central to the spell. This may suggest that fire, in glyph language represents "active/on/go/initiate". If that is true, then the alchemical correspondence for Titan Blood--or blood as ANY component, is probably fire, as its the "power source" common denominator of several kinds of spell.
Titan Blood as a common denominator for powerful magic would suggest that as witches grew in their magical innovation before Belos, blood magic was probably common and a logical extension. Belos, who has done a great job of eradicating and muddling old ways of all sorts, has probably made it illegal by lumping it in with wild magic. Or at least, given how gross potions are shown to be, there may be seriously muddy legal shit going on there.
But not all blood would be equal probably. Titan blood is obviously the best. You'd think witch/demon blood would be next but...what about blood pushed through a heart synthesized from a Galdorstone, a known POWERFUL magical amplifier?
Tumblr media
It's hard to read but one of those books reads "Grimwalker Extinction" and damn guys, I wonder if this could have been a factor in why they're all gone now. I think Grimwalkers probably pre-dated Phillip, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he helped lead the charge to destroy then all. I expect his motivations would have been to just keep the technology entirely proprietary to himself, but still!
And this final bit is a bit of a stretch but as far as Galdorstone hearts go...
We're told that you have to hold a Galdorstone to power up your magic and it doesn't work on illusions. It's not like Willow needs a power up, but if she had to move a mountain or a reanimated Titan...

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for tagging me @meraki-yao. I am very happy at the oportunity to shamelessly plug many, many of my fics :D Let’s do this!
How many works do you have on ao3?
47
What?! When did that happen? And how?
What’s your total ao3 word count?
502,199
Weirdly less surprising, even thought hat number is completely unreal.
What fandoms do you write for?
Interview with the vampire (2022)
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
Red White and Royal Blue
Star trek: Deep Space Nine
And I have one teeny tiny Thunderbirds fic
Top 5 fics by kudos
Somewhere I have never travelled (ds9)
Petal by Petal (ds9)
Your most frail gesture (ds9)
Watch that man (rwrb)
Personality (ds9)
I feel like I should count the first three as one, since it’s literally parts 1, 2 and 3 of a trilogy.
Surprising how fast my first rwrb fic got up there.
Do you respond to comments?
Always, usually a bit rambly. I love talking to people about my writing :D
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Puh, that’s a hard one. I’m such a happy endings girl. My instinct was one of my iwtv fics, but they’re more angry than angsty lol, so I’m saying it’s between Of all untruths the truest is you (iwtv) and Do no harm (ds9)
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Your most frail gesture ends with a wedding, though actually I like the accepted proposal in Petal by Petal more.
Do you get hate on fics?
None so far (knock on wood).
Do you write smut?
No. A lot of my fics make it clear sex is happing but I don’t write it and I haven’t really any urge to.
Craziest crossover
My TayNick character crossover New Information. Also my only crossover so far, but that’s a side note.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. Hopefully having all my stuff archivelocked will keep it that way.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
YES! Someone did a translation of Do no harm into Russian. Only one of the coolest things that ever happened to me (though I would have preferred to be asked beforehand rather than simply be presented with a link).
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. I’m not entirely sure how that would work, but I’d be open to it.
All time favourite ship?
Why do people insist you have to have one favourite over everything else? No, I’m an adult, I can have as many OTPs as I want.
What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Beneath Lucifer’s claws. I love this story so much, but I have it in me to finish it. I also have an old ATLA fic I love to bits, that has really neat bits but I was such a different person when I wrote it, it would need a complete rewrite and half of my favourite scenes don’t really work anymore.
What are your writing strengths?
I’ve been told my pacing is good. And I think I’m quite good at characters voices right when it comes to fanfic.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Punctuation. And I definitely suffer from ‘why use a period when I can use a comma’ disease XD. Scene transitions always feel clumsy to me, I don’t know if they read like it.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Oh, there’s an essay. If I were to give general advice I’d say, avoid it. It’s fun to read when you speak the language and annoying if you don’t, having to look up stuff all the time interrupts the reading flow. It’s even more annoying when you speak the language and the author clearly didn’t.
I’ve seen it done well once, where it was used so the characters couldexchange information because that was the natural thing to do for them, while keeping it a secret from the reader. That was neat. 'But even that could be done by just saying 'he said something in [language]'.
First fandom you wrote in?
Published or not? My first published fic was Jack’s Desk for mfmm. But I also still have fifteen year old supernatural and vampire diaries fics in a notebook somewhere. The world wasn’t ready yet.
Favourite fic you’ve written?
Something unstoppable and Somewhere I have never travelled. Neither of them came out the way I thought they would but I love how they ended up so much.

A Tumblr Essay in Response to Youtuber Aldone’s Video Essay Titled “Why Elsa IS A Bad Character”
Tumblr media
This is the first time in forever I use anti-tags in this blog, but I have to protect myself. To be fair, this is Tumblr and you have full freedom to block me after reading this post, so bear with me.
And I will close the comment session for this one because I imagine I would be exhausted to deal with it in this particular post. Forgive me for my cowardness.
 Caveat:
Trigger warning: This post has mentioned misogyny, mental illness, and cyberbullying.
I should first explain my relationship with Frozen franchises. When Frozen was out, I was a little 13~14 gremlin. I seldom went to theatre for a movie in my entire life, and I am still the same now. In the 23 years of my life, I have ever gone to a movie theatre three times. Every other movie I watch is from DVD renting stores or Disney Plus. Therefore, when I watched Frozen 1, it was when our music teacher in the high school decided to play the film in the class as Frozen 1 was a musical (so it qualifies as teaching material in a music class I guess).
I am a cis woman who once succumbed to 1990s feminism—I refused to have anything to do with feminine qualities as I’ve never learned make-up and dress-up. So Frozen actually resonated with a part of me that I had never thought existed—I saw the girl who wished to be seen as more powerful and tougher in the characterization of Elsa in Frozen 1. But at the same time, the influence of 1990s feminism in me told me that I should feel ashamed for liking Frozen 1. I refused to tell anyone (including my family) that I love Frozen, except my closest friend in the high school.
Once, I had to confess to my younger sister because she found me drawing Elsa fanart. I confessed: “I love Frozen, yes. Your super masculine-looking sister loves Frozen. Could you let me be and don’t tell my Mom? I can’t deal with how she would think of me if she knows I love Frozen.”
I love Frozen. I love Frozen Fever. Olaf's Frozen Adventure is mostly repetitive for me but I still feel the warmth when the sisters sing “When We’re Together.” I understand there are flaws in these films, but hey, I have a fun time watching those films, and they would be a big part of my teenage years.
But I don’t like Frozen 2. I personally disagree with many of the creative choices in this film, which I don’t think I would go too much into in this post. But just so you know: I am an Asian and I once wrote Frozen fanfiction and did prompts occasionally on the Internet platform in my own country. Once my criticism of Frozen 2 was known by the Frozen fans in the Internet community in my country, I was cyber bullied to the point of depression and despair.
That is my story about my relationship with Frozen franchise. I believe Youtuber Aldone has his story of his…somewhat love-hate relationship with Frozen franchise told again and again in his video. (Yeah today I’m going to express my personal opinions on this video essay)
Aldone, if you are reading this, I would like to say that the purpose of writing this post is not out of mean spirit or hatred against you. It is me doing the thing I am more familiar with—writing, to express my thoughts on your several points in this video. I think we can agree to disagree, it’s the purpose of a conversation even though we have never met. I appreciate your effort to put the original video together, as I understand how much work it takes to make a video because I have edited crappy videos for my school projects before.
But I am here just to provide my opinions, nothing more, nothing less. Perhaps by doing so, I can finally have more peace with a part of me that was once obsessed with this franchise. I could finally be free from the prison of this obsession.
And to anyone who cyberbullies Aldone after reading my post, I just want to say: fuck off from my lawn and you are the worst.
Then shall we begin?
Pardon me for not quoting Aldone’s original video quote-by-quote. I would write this in bullet points, but I would simply the arguments Aldone attempted to make rather than quoting them with composing a Tumblr post purpose
  1. Aldone: “Elsa’s parents are the worst royal parents in Disneyverse, they were portrayed in a positive light, but everything they did as parents were horrible to Elsa. The issue is the film never made it clear that Elsa’s parents were bad parents.”
My counterpoints: The thing with parenting, imo, is you can love your children but still fuck up the parenting. You can love your children but still gaslight them subconsciously so they will learn better, even if you mean no ill will. Their parents’ flaw was that they didn’t know how to confront Elsa’s emotions after the Anna incident. If Frozen 1 tried to flat-out portray Elsa’s parents as characters like Mother Gothel, manipulating Elsa just for their personal gain, then honestly I would be disappointed. It would not necessarily be a bad story, per se, but how I view Elsa’s parents is: they tried their best to protect Elsa, but they messed up.
“Do You Want to Build a Snowman” for me, it’s a heart-wrenching experience as I feel bad for both Anna and Elsa. Parents served as a purpose to fuel Elsa’s fear further, rather than being a pair of good parents.
The thing about this world is that love is not enough for salvation sometimes. And love sometimes is poison. I don’t agree with the view that there’s “fake love/just obsession” and “true love.” Love is a fact, love is an emotion, but love sometimes will not necessarily make you a better person.
But I gotta say, as a fellow who dislikes Frozen 2, I agree it makes no sense in retrospect considering Iduna had some experience with magical spirits so I am mainly talking about Frozen 1 here.
  2. Aldone: “’ For the first time forever’ is good until Hans ruined it because upon re-watching, we know Hans was the true villain. So the contrast between Anna and Elsa in this song is weakened. This song is supposed to be about the hero vs. the villain. (Aldone did not say this in this bracket, but I guess he wanted something like ‘Out There’ in Hunchback of Notre Dame from ‘For the First Time in Forever.’)”
My counterpoints: I am sorry, Aldone. But pardon me for being blunt: I think you grapple with the idea of “Elsa was supposed to be the main villain in the first draft” too much, to the point that you couldn’t see what Frozen is now as an end product on its own.
Yes, I admit it is always interesting and important to understand the creators’ intentions. But sometimes, I would choose to embrace “The Death of the Author” more to free my expectations from those interviews from the creators.
So what’s my point here? My view on “For the First Time Forever” is: This is a song about fear, the very core theme of this film. It is not about good and evil, but it is about how two sisters deal with their fear. Now, you might ask “Well, it is obvious for Elsa, but what do you mean on Anna’s end?” Anna was isolated by her sister without understanding the reasons, her fear was: what if the coronation party couldn’t solve her isolation?
I know it all ends tomorrow
So it has to be today
'Cause for the first time in forever
For the first time in forever
Nothing's in my way! (Anna’s verses from “For The First Time in Forever”)
While I personally don’t agree with the choice to make Hans the twisted villain, I do not agree that Hans ruined the song. The contrast between Anna and Elsa in this song still works even if Hans exists, because, for me, Hans’ problems have nothing to do with the brilliant writing in this song and the reprise.
  3. Aldone: “’ Let It Go’ is bad for character development because it sends a bad message. It looked like woman empowerment but felt flat because when Elsa built the castle, she didn’t face the consequences of her actions.”
My counterpoint: I think a comment under Aldone’s original video said it better than me: “Let It Go” is about Elsa being a hypocrite.
Yes. And I mean it. Elsa was hypocritical in this song. She sang about being free and could use her power in her will, but she chose to close the gate (of the balcony) right in the face of the audience. She was blinded by her desire to be free from her lifelong fear, but she didn’t realize her ice castle was just another prison for herself because her mind was never free from her fear for real. I feel like I am not reading too much in that particular frame of closing the gate right in the audience’s faces??? I just feel like…the metaphor ain’t that subtle???
Well, people always told me that I read too much in everything. I guess that’s how I function as a human being named Levi.
“Let It Go” was unfortunately framed as woman empowerment because of its fame. Let me say this: If you really have ever watched AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” you would understand the scene when Walter White said “I AM NOT IN THE DANGER, SKYLAR—I AM THE DANGER” is one of the most pathetic moments of the character of Walter, rather than how mainstream critics interpreted as “badass.”
Now, you could say “But this song was supposed to be a villain song! They ruined this song by making Elsa not the villain in this film!” Then pardon me for being a broken record: Embrace The Death of the Author. The song was not ruined, the misinterpretation of the mass did.
Finally, I just would like to add something to “she didn’t face the consequences of her actions.” I think: “For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)” is her consequence. You could argue that this consequence was far from enough, therefore, Elsa never learned from her mistake.
I would like to remind you that feeling guilty doesn’t necessarily make a human being a good person. Oppenheimer was crushed by his crippling guilt after WW2, did that make him a good guy?
Elsa felt the guilt, that was her consequence, and yes, she tried to run away from it, but that made her human. The inability to face her fear was her major character flaw.
But dear Aldone, pardon me but: Having character flaws doesn’t make a character badly written.
  4. Aldone: “We don't know what is Elsa thinking that much in the course of the film. (He implied that just seeing how her magic respond to her emotions felt flat in term of characterization) She was too passive in Frozen 1.”
My counterpoint: A character does not necessarily need to be proactive/having their own agency to be compelling. Elsa’s battle in Frozen 1 is her battle within her fragile heart. I understand Elsa felt more like a tragic character belonging to a Greek myth than a main hero/heroine in a Disney film, but to me, personally, that is her charm at least in the first film.
Sorry, this one I only have my own opinions to say rather than delivering anything else more elaborating.
  5. Aldone: “It felt forced that Elsa was brought back to Arendelle rather than realising her mistakes on her own. It’s nonsensical for Elsa to escape the whole kingdom after realising the horror consequence of her actions.”
My counterpoint: She was dealing with trauma just evoked by the confrontation with Anna—She just literally re-created the horror haunted in her imagination after the incident in her childhood, I personally think it’s unfair to expect her to react rationally at this scene.
  6. Aldone: “Hans' existence ruins Elsa's character arc as well because Elsa is now forced into a hero character which she was never meant to be. She has never faced her consequence.”
My counterpoint: I understand where you came from. But I wouldn’t call Elsa a hero/heroine. I would call her an interesting character, as I have no interest in classifying them into heroes or villains.
I would say: blame the masses for misinterpreting “Let It Go.”
I am sorry for sounding so irresponsible of my own claim in this particular session.
  7. Everything in the Frozen 2 session.
My response: I fully agree other than I think Elsa’s character was handled WAY WORSE than her in Frozen 1 personally. But it would require another long post. I have severe PTSD response to watching anything related to Frozen 2 because it evokes memories related to the cyberbullying against me in my country during its release. So no. I do not wish to explain why I personally dislike Frozen 2 on this site at least any time soon. And I do not wish to have anything to do with #BringElsaHome. I dislike it for its plot and character development.
 Please forgive my cowardness.
  8. So Levi, are you saying Frozen 1 is Pogger, and Elsa is a good character?
My answer: Elsa in my opinion, is relatable and compelling, as a woman whose major flaw was her need to escape her fear, but never realized that such desire would worsen her fear. She is by no means a bad person, but neither is she a pure-of-heart innocent cinnamon roll. I love her as what she was in Frozen 1 and her character is one of the most interesting for me in the Disney animation movies. And I am sorry, I tried my best, but I dislike Frozen 2 personally.
Elsa’s story in Frozen 1 was not about her personal growth, but rather about how such a powerful (magically) woman needs something with human warmth in order to have a chance for her salvation.
You might ask: Does such a “terrible(TM)” person like Elsa deserve salvation even to begin with? My response would be: In my opinion, characters respond to the situations around them with their own blind spots and their limited information like each of us is in the real world. Elsa, in my opinion, at least in Frozen 1, had tried her best despite all her faults. And that to me, earned her a shot for salvation, which was Anna.
And I love Anna as a character. But I just love flawed characters more when I consume fictional stories.
I understand why Elsa’s character arc didn’t resonate well with other people, and I respect their opinions, as everyone can have their opinions.
Finally, I just wish to write some words, and immense myself in my own words so I could reflect on myself more. The fact that I love Frozen and I can’t change my own opinions has plagued me for a long while. I know the fault is mine, and I am currently trying my best to improve my self-esteem.
At the end of the day, let me quote this from Breaking Bad to explain the essence of this whole long post:
“I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And I was really, I was ALIVE.”

back on my “trying to find an old fic i loved a couple years ago but i only remember the fandom and a couple of tags” bullshit this time with a liv and maddie fic that i was reminded of because i watched a video essay about the timeline of liv and holden’s relationship
now i know what you’re thinking “but tumblr user in-the-quiet-misty-morning, why on earth were you ever reading liv and maddie fanfiction?” to that i answer you: every so often i like to check up on my favorite fandoms with very teeny tiny fanbases (at least on ao3) and among those are every single disney channel show or movie i loved as a kid. some of them i check on more often (ike hsm, girl meets world, or sky high) but most of them i have checked on at least once. liv and maddie is one of those shows.
anyways unlike the hunger games fic i was looking for a couple of months ago, there’s only 125 works in the entire fandom, so i can easily root through them without having to try to guess the tags
will come back with updates.

What's so wrong with the spiderverse movie🤔
Okay, I held off on answering this bc I want to clearly state this is MY personal grudge with the movie and is entirely subjective and weirdly specific and most people have and will just go, "Yeah, you're insane." And that's because I'm an absolute hater. BUT there's a reason. I promise there's a reason, and this is why I (personally) cannot stand this movie for the life of me. And to make this quick (for me) I'll just copy and paste whatever I've said before, but be warned there's an essay-level rant below the cut bc I'm insanely hateful over this.
But ITSV absolutely demolished and bastardized Miles as a whole. In the sense that it set everybody's brain back a good ten to fifteen years in critical thinking, and sanitized and branded him as a "cute little wholesome smol bean boi uwu so innocent" GIRL, he's sending people to the ICU EVERY DAY!!!!!!! Spider-Verse is literally spineless. And in broader terms, ITSV is a classic case of "the fandom ruined it" for me. ITSV is inoffensive and beautiful, but hollow. Everyone likes it because it was made to be liked by everyone. Watching ITSV!Miles feels like watching your best friend become a stranger. I literally do not register him as Miles, at all.
If you know nothing, you love him.
If you're a little kid, you love him.
My hatred of it comes from being bitter that that's the Miles who got it— not because the movie isn't revolutionary and beautiful and funny with a good everything— it is, of course it is. It was made to be as palatable and inoffensive as possible! Even with me being a colossal hater I still own the movie in physical copy in goddamn 4K HD, and when it's on, I enjoy it. It's funny. Beautiful. I literally cannot take my eyes off of it.
My gripe is personal and comes with the fact that that's the Miles everyone will know, and that's the Miles everyone will think of, and that's the Miles that gets remembered and gets plastered on all the merch and the only one that gets talked about in the mainstream, and the only one who floods all the tags or shows up anywhere. Because Spider-Verse is a work of art, but to me, that's just not really... Miles. And a mutual would just always say, "What are you talking about????? That's literally comic book Miles with a can of spray paint." And I just couldn't see it. I've read ultimate Miles and his latest run and a lot of the other runs he shows up in and I just don't see him.
To me, ITSV Miles is just... gutless. He has no personality. He has been culled of anything conflicting or ugly. He's bland. Boring. Praised for being nothing. Literally nothing in the movie, narrative or action-wise, was brought on by him. Everyone around him makes those actions for him and drives the narrative forward. He's just kinda..... there. The movie happens to him, he doesn't affect anything.
"Well, that's the purpose of the movie. It's supposed to be that way. It's him finding his way and navigating that uncertainty. He's not supposed to be powerful or do too much. That's the whole point."
I know that!!!!! And that's exactly why I don't like him!!!!
I don't find that narrative interesting or compelling or worth praising. The superpowers shouldn't be what makes him interesting or powerful. Miles does absolutely nothing the whole film. The only thing he ever does for himself is spray paint his logo over a suit he didn't make— a suit he ripped off from Peter.
That's it.
I don't believe he earned it either, especially when he magically swoops in maybe 5-10 minutes before the movie ends and gains all his agency out of nowhere. He has no sense of purpose on his own, the narrative just... gives it to him and then solves everything for him in one sweep. He's literally invisible and a bystander in his own movie. You see more character development with Peter than you ever get with any of the characters (which I know isn't the only development that matters, but is the one I'm focusing on right now).
And even with all that, you still get shit like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything gets compared to it, and punished when it doesn't reflect it. Like, I don't want no damn Spider-Verse bootleg ass game!!!!! (Yes, I prefer game!Miles. Yes, that's my Miles. Yes, I'm aware that makes me slightly biased).
Everybody sees Spider-Verse like some holy grail, but I'm so sick of seeing Spider-Verse Miles as the Miles. I want to see comic Miles or game Miles or whatever else— I really don't care at this point, I'm just sick of seeing him. Enough with the Miles that's all watered down!!! It's everywhere, like an eye-bleedingly bad wallpaper on every wall of the room you're in. You can't fucking escape it. It's practically shoved down your throat atp. It's oversaturation and I'm tired of it. It's literally just the ultimate level of dick-riding, is what it is.
I firmly believe Spider-Verse was the worst thing to ever happen to Miles, just like the MCU was the worst thing to happen to Peter. Every subsequent Spider-Verse movie just makes me want to commit murder.
And like, yes, I know it's a kids movie, but everyone in fandom are mostly adults, and the importance of this specific film has been raised to a higher status than what it should've been— it's on a pedestal. A very, very high one. It's not just a kids movie anymore. Even with the message that courage is hard and believing in yourself is the ultimate power to drive you to move forward, it feels so so hollow to me. The world is hollow and empty to me. The characters don't matter. Nothing is going on in that movie. Besides being aesthetically gorgeous, it has nothing.
Try to think of any characteristic of Spider-Verse!Miles that is remotely strong. Like, nothing jumps out (frankly, PS4 Miles would wipe the floor with him).
And it's not that I don't want Miles to be loved, what bothers me is that people are cementing ITSV!Miles as the Apex™ This movie is everywhere. Billions of people know it. It was a huge success. When this thing came out it was inescapable. It still is to this day!!! People who have never and will never see the movie know the songs. Hundreds of think pieces and essays and videos detailing how this is the greatest Spider-Man movie or piece of media/animation ever created and that it's this genius larger than life thing and I'm tired of it!!!! And it's not even the movie's fault!!!!
Most times I see Miles it's all from Spider-Verse. Like 99.9% of the time. It's like stepping into an alternate world or something. It's the baby-fied version of Miles. Literally the same treatment that Tom Holland's Spider-Man got, being pushed into this woobified cinnamon roll... role. Just complete and utter babyfication.
Not to mention, that for a lot of people this was their first introduction to Miles (shit, it was mine too! But then I played the MM game and realized how unappealing and unauthentic ITSV!Miles really is). So, they don't know anything else, of course this image of him is the one that gets accepted. This is a lot of people's Miles. Which is... fine. It's fine. But the movie made it so these very specific type of people flock to it an overwhelmingly disproportionate amount and then drown out everything else. It's kiddie Miles for people who like kiddie things and have literally never read anything else and never will.
And to basically bring the point home bc I'm rambling, tldr; I hate the way the movie is treated and the favor it gets shown. That's it. Which is kinda stupid, actually, bc how tf you gonna get mad for something being good and doing its job well????? Like???? 😭😭🤡🤡 Either way, this is all ridiculous and I'm sorry for anyone who had to read this ✌🏽

I'm beyond late on this, but thank you for tagging me @whatevsbla!
Rules: List ten books that have stayed with you in some way, don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
(these are in no particular order)
'Stuff' by Daniel Miller - to this day I have not finished it, but reading the first few chapters of this book in my undergrad forever changed the way I look at clothes and 'innate' qualities, making me question for the first time why supposedly innate things are meant to be superior to things you actively worked to develop.
'Fool's Errand' by Robin Hobb - my fav RotE book. I love the older Fitz POV, the new characters, and the return of old faves. The relatively low stakes also mean that for the most part I can enjoy the warm character moments knowing that there's nothing awful about to happen in the next chapter.
'Pippi Longstockings' by Astrid Lindgren. The first 'proper' book (i.e. a full novel instead of a collection of short stories) that I've read by myself and one of my fav books as a kid. It forever has a place in my heart.
'Othello' by William Shakespeare. My second Shakespeare play, and also the play that really made me love Shakespeare. Read it over a couple of months for school, which means that I remember details of it much better than a lot of other Shakespeare plays.
'English Renaissance drama : a Norton anthology' - this may be cheating, but this book is just a really good selection of early modern plays that I stumbled upon in my uni library and have been thinking about longingly ever since (although looking online, it appears that used copies of it are actually fairly affordable, so perhaps I could actually buy one for myself)
'Pulpecja' by Małgorzata Musierowicz - another book from my childhood. The entire Jeżycjada series fills me with nostalgia, but this book in particular meant a lot to me as a kid. Growing up fat, reading about a beautiful chubby girl was a balm to my soul.
'National Gallery of Ireland Companion Guide' - this is a weird one, but I picked up a copy of this book during my fine art phase as a teenager and then spend hours pouring over all the paintings and painting descriptions in it. The actual gallery is also very dear to me.
'Anthropocene Reviewed' by John Green. I don't know why this collection of essays spoke to me so strongly, but I cried a lot while reading it and it helped me to feel more connected to/ appreciative of the wider world around me.
'How to keep house while drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organising' by KC Davis - another book that made me cry a lot. I'm not usually one for self-care books, but I bought this one when I was really struggling with my chores and it really helped. I can't say that any of the practical advice really stayed with me outside of one or two things, but the core message of making your space serve you (not the other way around) and not attaching moral judgement or your own self worth to completing chores made this 1000% worth buying. A book I'll be returning to many times over.
'My Brilliant Friend' by Elena Ferrante (although the entire Neapolitan quartet can go here) - I can't remember the last time a series of books absorbed me this much both story wise (although this is more of a character study, and not exactly fast-paced) and intectually. Binged all 4 books in a row (and that's saying quite a bit, considering how often I was annoyed by the main character lol). Wouldn't have picked it up if not for my friend hyping it up a lot, but I'm really glad I did. Also it made me reconnect with my childhood friend, so hey, there's that!

Thank you for the tag @allalrightagain 💚
Hardcover or Paperback? I'm just taking LT's answer but yes, ebook! I can use dark mode, write as many notes as I want, and something about reading on the small screen tricks my ADHD brain into thinking I'm not actually reading a whole book. To answer the actual question, paperback.
Bookstore or Library? Libraries! So many free books, and the librarians can find you pretty much anything you want! Also if I said bookstore my librarian mother would materialize behind me and end my entire existence (but my answer would be the same regardless).
Bookmark or Receipt? I mean receipt or scrap paper if I have it, but I'll be real i'm a terrible awful person who has very few issues dog-earing a page.
Standalone or Series? Typically standalone, but if a series is really good then it can win me over. All my favourites are series (Percy Jackson, Harry Potter) but I've also read so many series where I feel like the story and themes gets lost or muddled over too many books. I've had more consistent success finding well defined stories with standalones.
Nonfiction or Fiction? Oh easy, fiction. I read to escape reality, why on earth would I want to read about reality?? I mean I do like research but only with a goal in mind. Non-fiction just for the fun of it? No thanks.
Thriller or Fantasy? Fantasy, all day every day. It's the D&D obsession shining through, I think.
Under 300 Pages or Over? Over!!! I set my ao3 search functions to sort by word count and if it's under 100k I gently place it in my marked for later list for when I want a 'light easy read' 😂 I'm way more likely to be interested if you tell me a book/fic is over 250k (or however many pages that is equivalent to).
Children’s or YA? I like a few kids books for the nostalgia, but I mostly read YA.
Friends to Lovers or Enemies to Lovers? I'm giving up and just quoting LT here because I agree 100% and couldn't say it better: "Friends. Enemies can be fun too, but I love the layers when you get into friends to lovers. Enemies to friends to lovers or friends to enemies to lovers or other permutations of Messy can be even better."
Read in Bed or Read on the Couch? I mostly read on my bed because my roommate tends to keep youtube videos running on the TV while he does various crafts around the house (right now he's painting a mirror frame with really pretty flowers!) but if we're just chilling listening to music then I like the couch better. We've got about 30 plants in our living room and we can open the balcony door when it rains and it's lovely.
Read at Night or Read in the Morning? I mean, the morning is definitely safer. If I start reading at night I'll never put the book down and I won't sleep, but if I start in the morning things won't get done. It's lose-lose.
Keep Pristine or Markup? Markup. This is why I have digital books, so I can write essays in the notes section. I once had to tape a piece of paper inside my book because there wasn't enough room in the margins for my notes.
Cracked Spine or Dogear? (this part is mostly for LT but I have a copy of OotP where the spine is also cracked so bad you can't read it!! samsies!) But uhhhh both? I do try to take care of my books, but I don't have many and the ones I do have are my favourites that have survived the various purges of many moves, so they're all very beat up with cracked spines and dogears and notations everywhere 😂 I call it a sign of a well-loved book. I'm pretty sure my copy of HBP lost its cover at some point and I hot glued it back on.

Sorry to bring up the topic but your tags on the Litchi('s boobs) versus Bullet('s ass) post are so true. What ass. If they didn't have her screwing up her entire back in her "battle pose" just to stick it up it'd look basically the same as anyone else's. (Also yeah her boobs are way more noticeable). I don't find that any Blazblue girl actually has much of an ass but I think that's both due to cultural difference on my part and to Mori only knowing the Japanese/anime body type.
So, can I ask for more of your thoughts regarding the Blazblue girls' body types? (And if you want to elaborate on those cultural beauty standards I'd love to read that too!)
Don’t apologize for asking the question, lol. We’re adults here, we can talk about ass an’ titty.
But really! We know that Mori’s mentioned that Litchi’s boobs are his cap for how big he’ll design a woman’s tits, though characters like Nine and Bullet look bigger in some art. I think Bullet’s boobs seem bigger in part because of her usual posture since she’s depicted bending over so much. I remember them being more prominent, but looking at her story sprite alongside Litchi’s, they really are the same. Hell, Litchi may actually still be bigger, given what looks like some serious gobbing out of her bra going on up top there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the cultural beauty standards I mentioned in the earlier tags; the layman’s rundown of it all is that a society’s ideas about the ideal, most attractive body types change as time goes on. Currently, in the west (primarily the USA) we’re in an era of Big Ass, Big Thigh supremacy. I would theorize that this really kicked off with celebrities like the Kardashians, gaining more traction in the late 20-teens as women both within and outside of the celebrity spotlight pushed back against the bodyshaming tied to the “thigh gap” trend that was popular there for a while.
But in the era before that, it was flat asses that everyone was all about. And as I understand it, that’s still the case in Japan! At the very least, it was definitely still the case during BlazBlue’s lifetime.
To really be able to discuss this, I reached out to a good friend of mine who’s been studying the art, culture, and theory behind Japanese animation for a couple of years. I shared this ask with her, and it actually inspired her to start working on a whole essay on the women of BlazBlue and the JP pop culture beauty standards that apply to their designs! Which is, in part, why this reply has taken so long. We’re having fun with it!
For the meantime, here’s an exert from her post, discussing why Bullet qualifies as “the ass character” in a way that doesn’t quite click for a 2020s Western audience:
"Like you said, none of the Blazblue girls really have any (big) butt. In Japan (and in the early 2000s of America! trends…) they tend to prefer flatter butts.
In the opening of Cutie Honey, an anime created in 1970s by Go Nagai that was known for (and was actually at one point canceled for) sexy content, one of the lyrics is “Hey there girl, with the slender behind”. So it’s been in vogue for a hot minute too!
It’s interesting because I think Bullet is supposed to be the butt character, not because it’s particularly round or big, instead it’s her hot pants and the fact she is very fit. This butt is nice, toned but not “”too much”” , and available for viewing!!!
(...) I think it has a little to do with the fact that (typically) Japanese women don’t really have bubble butts, it’s more “normal” to have a flatter butt, but I’m not Japanese so. Grain of salt for this part!!"
Interesting, huh???
This post is already getting pretty long, so I think I'll wrap things up here! Though I do think we'll return to this ask in the future. As mentioned, my friend's working on a whole essay for the BlazBlue girls that we might end up posting on here.
As for myself, I still haven't answered the root question of your post; what I think about the BB girls' bodies. It's something I haven't really thought of a lot... I'm not even sure what angle I would want to take my answer in- do I focus on personal taste, attraction/sex appeal, do I focus on a more cultural or character design angle... how do I account for the way different art styles, even among the games, change the how the character looks...
I think, when I return to this topic, I'll break it apart into separate posts, grouping the girls by debut game. So, if you're interested in silly bloggers' takes on cartoon girls, stay tuned!
And thanks for asking!

While i respectfully disagree with your assessment of the merits of this essay (/blog post/whatever you want to call it) i want to clarify that i don't think it's entirely beyond criticism. None of the aforementioned essays are beyond criticism. Take Whipping Girl, a text almost universally lauded as the primary text on transfeminist theory that frequently falls back on gender essentialist assumptions that reproduce sex/gender from a primarily binary perisex white perspective. There's still a lot of value to be found in its analysis despite these flaws.
One of the things I think Coates does well is highlight the way liberal feminist deference politics marginalizes trans women and forces us to out ourselves and make ourselves vulnerable to transmisogynistic abuse. Her account shows how closeted and pretransition and non-op and butch trans women (hi im 2 of these things) will frequently get caught in the crossfire of blanket statements deriding masculinity so long as the power to define masculinity and femininity is gatekept from said trans women. I put this interpretation upfront in the original tags because this is what i want people to take away from my recommendation.
While there is certainly room for critique, and often her language can be disagreeable or even triggering (it's a challenging read at some points and i'm genuinely sorry about your friends' reactions), there should be room in transfeminist discourse for trans women who haven't worked all their shit out or who don't Do Transgender properly for one reason or another. From Coates' own account she seems pretty confident in her own womanhood but chooses to embody that womanhood through her authorship rather than through traditionally physical/social transition (reminiscent of how a lot of cis feminist authors conceptualize their writing as an liberatory extension of their outwardly repressed gender class to the point where it's almost a nauseating motif to compare female authorship to womanhood or motherhood). Furthermore she states upfront that she is not advocating for anyone else to emulate her choice to stay in the closet and not transition but that the experiences of our sisters who have to for whatever reasons are frequently dismissed over narratives that more easily fit the cisgender gaze. You don't have to like it or even agree with my interpretation but i wanted the chance to explain why i find it valuable and why i recommend it to people.
@molsno hi ! would you by chance have any reading recommendations concerning transmisogyny? you speak very well on what you discuss and I thought you might have some clues
