hey, its me again, back with more Starscream thoughts, so you just know things are about to get uncomfortably real and introspective! Again, prefacing by saying that a lot of my analysis is based on my own eerily similar experiences to Starscream, so I'm not 100% sure how much of this actually rings true and what is just me projecting.

I have entirely fallen down the StarOp rabbit hole thanks to you, at a speed I never could have expected. When I first finished TFP and started browsing the tags, I'd see the occasional StarOp post and at best be like "alright, sure" and at worst a little confused on where it was coming from, given the infrequency of interactions between the two after like, early season 1. But since I sent that first ask in it just clicked and like.

Before, I was always of the opinion that Starscream joining the autobots was something that could never really work from a character perspective, not just because of his dependency on Megatron like I talked about last time, but like, even if Megatron was completely out of the picture I never felt like the full on redemption and becoming a functioning member of post-war society that becoming an Autobot would entail would particularly be desirable to Starscream (if even possible for reasons both in and out of his control.)

I sorta felt like any good ending for Starscream would have to entail him moreso escaping the narrative than anything else, given the extent to which he's stuck in this cycle almost on a cosmic level, with how he's unable to escape it in any universe, any continuity, which of course ties into wider thoughts on how this franchise seems uninterested in letting Starscream ever escape that cycle. A sort of El Camino style ending, where leaving behind everything you know and running away to Alaska is considered a good ending, all things considered. That naturally led to me shipping him with Knockout, given their chemistry and the fact that they were this close to running away together, it just felt like the most compelling option, narratively speaking.

But now that I've caught onto the StarOp agenda, I've sorta cracked the code and realized that you can make a compelling and believable path to Starscream becoming an Autobot by having him getting together with Optimus initially be on a subconscious level an outlet to recreate the cycle he was in with Megatron purely because he's used to it and doesn't know how to live without it.

Outside of the obvious ideological and moral differences, Optimus and Megatron have a lot in common, especially from the perspective of Starscream. They're both big, strong, masculine figures, and natural-born leaders that effortlessly compel those around them to fight for their respective causes. They both radiate power in a way that I imagine you can almost feel when around them (and in a way I know it, because that's often how it felt being around my personal Megatron, it's why it was so easy to fall back into his arms over and over.)

All this to say, when Starscream gets with Optimus, he's not escaping the cycle, he's changing his target. If he became an autobot he would instantly become the most dedicated autobot, not out of any ideological reasoning or particular desire to be good, but out of an intense loyalty he effortlessly placed in Optimus. But of course, the loyalty phase is only half of this cycle.

This next part I'm heavily basing on what I've realized about my own experiences, so bear with me for a second, (I also doesn't think it exactly applies to TFP as much as it does some other continuities, G1 maybe but I haven't seen much of G1 so idk for sure) but I feel like sometimes Starscream almost tests Megatron in a way when he feels like Megatron's priorities are drifting away from him, (since remember, he needs to be the most important bot in his life, Starscream is desperate for Megatron to be as obsessed with him as he is with Megatron.) so Starscream will sort of do something stupid, maybe he comes up with some harebrained scheme that's probably not gonna work, or he makes some tactical or administrative decision entirely based on what he's feeling on an emotional level, to see "will Megatron back me on this?"

because Megatron does stuff like that all the time, he's far from being a better tactician than Starscream, (notice how the moment Starscream leaves in season 1, the decepticons stop winning like, at all until he comes back?) and he makes rash decisions out of anger all the time, and Starscream goes along with all of it, every single time, so it's only fair that Megatron lets him get away with doing something kinda stupid this once. and when Megatron inevitably doesn't, either because it would work against the Decepticons own goals, or purely because he doesn't want Starscream to think he has power over him, (and despite how good he is at hiding it, Starscream does have power over him in a lot of ways, I might talk about that some other time.) Starscream lashes out, betrays Megatron, and leaves, because once again all the loyalty he gave to Megatron got him nothing in return.

and let's be clear, Starscream doing this is toxic as fuck, but at the same time of course it is, it's almost impossible not to become toxic in an environment like this. And that really comes back to bite you when you get out of that environment, but on a base level still have these habits and base level impulses that might have helped you survive back then but are terrible for the actually decent people you've surrounded yourself with now.

With that, we cut to today, where Starscream is an autobot and he tries to pull one of these "tests" on Optimus because the honeymoon phase is over and Starscream is instinctually ready for things to start getting worse, maybe they had like, one minor argument and Starscream instantly assumed the worst. and I imagine Optimus "fails" the test, says "no, I'm not backing you on this, I'm not gonna let you do that", but unlike Megatron who does so while prioritizing his own ends and his control over Starscream, Optimus is saying no for moral reasons. And I imagine he tries to explain that to Starscream, but that answer isn't hitting him properly because again, Starscream's only thinking in loyalty.

Everything Optimus thought was progress on Starscream's part in living up to autobot ideals was really just newfound intense loyalty to Optimus, his growth was really just him doing what he thinks Optimus would want him to do and what he thinks would gain him Optimus's loyalty in return. and, from Starscream's perspective, it didn't work, so he's thinking "obviously Optimus doesn't care about me at all, fuck him, I'm out of here." so he makes this big display of betraying the autobots and running away.

and from there, it's the question of if Optimus sees through what this is really about. The other autobots are probably no help in that regard, they all probably fall into one of two groups, the "At no point in time was I not 100% sure that this inevitably was going to happen" group, and the "I mean, I had hope for him, and it seemed like he was doing good, but I'm still not that surprised" group.

But of course, Optimus isn't Megatron, he does care about Starscream and wants him to know that, so I imagine he actually tries tracking down Starscream to have an actual conversation with him to try and figure out where his mind has really been at these past few months, and if he catches on to even a little bit of the subtext of what I've been saying here, he's gonna be like "oh shit, there is a lot more we need to work on than I thought."

and yeah, Megatron fucked up Starscream in ways that its gonna take years to properly unpack, so Starscream is lucky to have found quite possibly the best person to help him through it in Optimus. It's gonna be a rocky road, but Optimus is in for the ride.

and I do think this relationship could eventually become healthy, and I like reading fics where they've managed to make it healthy, but I do think at first it really wouldn't be, and as someone with the autism that makes you obsessed with themes and motifs and subtext, the process of seeing it become better, of seeing Starscream have to unlearn these old harmful defense mechanisms, THAT is really what makes my brain vibrate, especially because I've had to go through that same process myself after finally getting away from my personal Megatron for what I'm thankfully certain now is the final time.

also kinda realizing a lot of this kinda sounds like borderline personality disorder, which. that might be something I have to look into in regards to myself, damn. anyways, yeah, thanks for letting me kill the vibe again, appreciate it! I'll probably try and keep these shorter in the future, I imagine it's kind of a lot to suddenly have 1500 words of deep character analysis with hints of traumadumping suddenly thrown in your askbox lol. If this actually was a bit too much then I'm sorry, you can tell me to dial it down a little if you want.

you really hit the nail on the head with this one. when done well, it's not only cute and fun to explore, but it's also a deep dive into starscream as a character and what could possibly lead to a redemption arc. sure, you don't need starscream to fall in love with optimus to redeem him, but how that would actually play out is so fascinating.

sure, i love aus where starscream is an autobot spy the whole time. yes, i love aus where they were in love in the past and got separated. but the idea of starscream replacing megatron with optimus in his mind fits him so well, because, as an abuse victim myself, it's easy to find yourself drawn to people who remind you of your abuser.

and that's where optimus' kindness sets him apart, because when starscream pushes back on him, optimus doesn't do what starscream expects. he doesn't lash out or hit him or verbally berate him. he responds with honest concern, trying to figure out what's wrong.

and that kindness, that sincerity, is something starscream doesn't even realize he's been missing the entire time.

i do believe they have the potential to be healthy, but the fight towards them actually becoming healthy and helping starscream get out of his toxic mindset is part of what makes these two so damn compelling.

JUST PLAYED THIS AND I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!!!! (potential spoilers below the cut)

Beautiful style, great music, interesting environments (and fun hammer swinging >:3). I accidentally did the levels slightly out of order (Hospital first) but then I noticed they were numbered. I only died twice, once to the wall stabbies in the Hospital and once to the crushing machines in the Factory. I never felt the need to use any of the syringes (I assume they were healing items) once I figured out the hammer strategy. I greatly appreciated that I didn't have to go back through the crushing machine segment after completing it!!

As someone with really bad anxiety and major startle reflex, I found this to be really enjoyable to play!! I got startled by a monster or two, but there were not any jumpscares! The overall environment and style of the game gave a great "uneasy" feeling that made me want to explore and approach everything with caution!! There are some achievements I will have to go back and get, but I had so much fun playing :3 The song was also really lovely <3

Riddle vs Leona

There’s people that you wonder how they have beef. They’re not opposites, they’re not too similar, but there’s something that doesn’t quite click with them.

In the case of Riddle and Leona, their beef is over you.

Riddle is a fool I tell you. He might be a great student, he might be Mr perfect in anything and everything pertaining to stuff your parents would be proud of, but he is indeed a fool.

He will, very loudly and stupidly, call you his good friend to the Heartslabyul dorm while blushing up a storm as soon as you’re less than 10 feet away from him.

You were commenting in passing to Ace and Deuce how the history of magic assignment is really hard? There comes Riddle in the next morning carrying back breaking books on the topic, with sticky notes color coded to how important he thought that information was.

Did you complain about not being able to sleep properly? Riddle has brewed you a potion that is said to help sleep and prepared a brochure with every habit of yours that is making sleep evade you.

And yet he is not using the evidence to reach a sound verdict. He is instead looking pretty stupid and/or overbearing to everyone around him.

Trey and Cater are laughing their asses off at the interactions between you both.

If it was someone else it could be heavily considered that they were faking it, but it’s Riddle after all.

Mr. Lionman is, like always, emotionally constipated as hell.

Leona might be lazy as balls, but he is no idiot. He’s actually rather brilliant and also not blind, so the moment he sees Riddle interact with you, it’s on sight.

Verbally that is. Leona isn’t that trigger happy with people that he could snap like a twig.

He probably already suspected Riddle's crush on you just by hearing you talk, which he did in fact make an effort to stay awake for, but actually seeing the red short stack turn into a human prawn would piss him off sooooo bad.

This man is incredibly petty. He has never once actually tried in his classes, but seeing as that would make Riddle mad, he’s showing up at 8:00 am on the dot to every class and scoring 100 after 100 in every test he can.

Meanwhile Riddle’s jaw is glued to the floor.

He doesn’t really understand why Leona is rubbing his successes in his face, which does piss him off, but what pisses him off the most is how Leona is showing it off to you too??? How dare he!

Riddle should be the one that comes to you with his perfect tests, offering help all gentleman style.

Treys sweets are another weapon in Riddle's arsenal, but Leona is indeed a cheeky bastard that practices the age old “all is fair in love and war”.

Ruggie is going to be very busy making sure those sweets taste awful, and also trying to feed you with stuff “Leona” made.

Speaking of Trey, he’s going to have to make a decorated cake saying “You like ____” for his housewarden. Otherwise man will stay in the dark.

It is shocking news to Riddle once he figures it out, while everyone else sort of just… nods their heads and pretend it is such riveting new information.

“Trey, I have delved deep into my psyche and have reached the conclusion that my feelings for ___ aren’t exclusively platonic.”

“Oh, really now, Riddle?”

Leona is also a contender for the most obvious crush on campus to those that know him.

Ruggie and Jack probably have a bet going on when Leona will confess. (Jack thinks it will be when the sun explodes. Ruggie is more akin to the hypothesis of the heat death of the universe coming first.)

Riddle is the one most likely to confess.

He believes in doing things the proper way so confessing is the way to go.

Man is redder than his hair and holding a script he wrote.

It’s really sweet actually. Riddle isn't some romantic bard of legend, but he writes down his feelings in the best way he can: with legal jargon.

Leona’s sixth sense is activating and he is running to match his rival.

Once again, metaphorically. He can’t be bothered to actually run.

He is putting his head on your shoulder, whispering into your ear…

“I know you like me, herbivore.”

Hell no! This man did not spend the time he did around you and planning how to get your attention to turn back around and say it’s you who is in love with him! Step on his tail or knee him on the groin cuz he deserves it.

For a Leona love triangle, this one isn’t that bad. I’d give it an A.

Any love triangle with two overblot boys tends to be really messed up, even after said overblot, but Leona and Riddle don’t have that much prior beef that turns the love triangle into a biohazard.

Leona will have his good ol inferiority complex to keep him company if rejected, but he doesn’t feel like he is in that much direct competition with Riddle, which spares him some of the heartache that a love triangle with Vil or Malleus would give.

Riddle will be haunted by his perfectionism and romantic stupidity if rejected, but he’s one of the more stable post overblot boys, so you don’t have much to fear. Probably.

I spent wayyyyy too long compiling all this - but it's important, and I appreciate you asking!!

Accessibility is a subject near and dear to my heart, and I will say up front that I'm not sure universal (aka accessible to everyone) design is possible, because people's needs can vary even within the same subset of similar disabilities (such as limited vision or blindness). BUT that doesn't mean we don't try to design for and make our games available to as many people as possible. Mismatch by Kat Holmes is a great read on design for accessibility in general, as is Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. You might also check out literally anything Alice Wong has ever done.

To start, I recommend this article on the Lenses of Accessibility.

(for reference, this article is about web/graphic design, so I'm going to try and distill the most salient points for game design)

Color

Why does color matter? Well, for starters, there's a lot of colorblind people out there. Contrast affects readability. Autistic people and people who suffer from occular migraines might be affected by particular vivid colors. There's lots of reasons to consider color and the work it is doing in your piece, but in general you can provide a black and white, high contrast version of your game to help users.

There are tools out there to figure out if your contrast meets certain readability standards, such as this one.

Font

Dyslexia and other visual processing issues can make font choice really important. Plus, some fonts really affect readability. Additionally, line height, justification, and size of text can affect readability.

Best practice would be to provide a plain-text version of your game (and beware of "dyslexia-friendly" fonts which may or may not actually help - sticking to a basic readability font like Arial, Tahoma, or Verdana, is safest). I like this style guide for reference.

Images & Icons

For visually-impaired people, it's important to use alt-text, descriptions, and/or captions to help screenreaders properly translate images. Tons and tons of details that could go into this, but there are better people than me to describe it.

Layout

We've talked about this a bit, but there's tons of resources for this. There was recently a great writeup about Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast in terms of layout that I highly recommend.

Readability

More of the thing we've already talked about - it really is a combination of all the other lenses that comes down to readability. Audio versions of your game are always a good way to avoid the restrictions of screen readers, but can be expensive to produce.

Structure

This is tables. Tables are a nightmare for screenreaders, but including them as images can also be a problem. The short solution is "don't use tables" but that's not necessarily great for seeing people. The section in this blog is really great when talking about options for structure.

Keyboard

Debated on whether to include this, but given how many games are being read as purely digital files, I think it's important to have workable interactive elements that can be navigated through without a mouse. Some of that is going to come down to the programs being used to open your files. But if there are things you can do on your end (such as labeling form fillable fields on an interactive character sheet), they're worth doing!

Please understand that this isn't an exhaustive list. There's tons of resources out there and technology and standards are constantly changing.

It's also is important to note that even doing one of these things is helpful. You might look at this list and go "wow that's too hard" but I promise you, it's worth it. My games do not all have accessible versions! That's something I'm trying to rectify. The biggest part of that for me is thinking about accessibility from the start instead of at the end! But we can start today, and that's better than not starting.

The most important thing to remember are that disabled people are NOT a monolith - needs will differ from person to person. Accessible design makes gaming better for everyone!

I understand if this is outside your field of expertise, but do you think if the ornamentation of the clothing that (some of) the kobolds drawn by Kui wear is inspired by anything?

Actually this is exactly my field of expertise! I studied costume design for about two years in university before switching to something else :) So clothing is something I love looking at and talking about, and fashion history is one of my favorite elements of history in general!

HOWEVER, though I have some experience with subject, I'm not a fully trained expert in the field, and I know that I may not have all the answers, so please take what I say with a grain of salt. This is only my educated guess.

I'm assuming that you're talking about this page from the Daydream Hour book:

To start with, the caption says: "Kobolds that appear in foreign games and fantasy often have a reptilian appearance, but we chose an appearance that is more familiar in Japan." This doesn't tell us anything about their clothing, but I wanted to translate it to make sure it didn't say anything about their culture.

(You can read more about why the Dungeon Meshi kobolds are dogs in the Half-foot chapter of my Dungeon Meshi research project)

Kobolds likely live all over the world, but their large population centers are all located in the Western Continent, so that is probably the region they consider home.

So those two kobolds on the bottom left of the chart, who appear to be wearing European-inspired clothing, are probably living somewhere in the Eastern hemisphere, where Northern/Western/Central/Eastern European clothing is the norm, while the rest are likely from the West. So we can discard the European-looking clothes, since that's probably not a part of the kobold's traditional culture.

We have very limited information about the Western Continent, but these images plus what we know about Kabru (His name and Utaya's name are both South Asian, the dessert that comes from Utaya is South Asian) and the elves (several of them have South Asian names, some elves wear South Asian clothing and bindis) makes me think there's probably a strong Indian/South Asian influence in the Western Continent. It's a large land mass, so I don't think it's all South Asian, but South Asian culture is the only thing we have conclusive evidence of so far.

The majority of the kobolds are wearing brightly colored tunics with patterns on the hems, or what seems to be dresses/tunics made of draped fabric, also with hem decoration.

It IS worth noting that Kui avoids drawing elaborate patterns, even when it would make sense for her to do so. She does it only a couple of times in the manga and uses screentones instead whenever possible. So the simple hem decoration and single color fabric may just be an artistic choice that doesn't mean anything other than "I didn't want to draw a pattern." However, it's all we have to work with, so I'm going to assume it's intentional.

The repeated over-the-shoulder draped fabric the kobolds are wearing seems like it could only be a Greco-Roman style toga, palla, or cloak, or a South Asian saree. We have seen Western elves wearing garments similar to all of these on occasion, though obviously Kui has made some changes. As I say in my essay, I don't think any of the cultures in Dungeon Meshi is an exact copy of a real-world culture, Kui is remixing things together.

(Except for the Island of Wa, which seems to be entirely based on Sengoku-era Japan.)

Roman togas were just large pieces of cloth that they draped around their bodies, and they were usually white, with brown or black reserved for the lower-classes or for use during mourning, and purple or red reserved for extremely important people. Embroidery and trim, if they had it, was usually either very simple (plain colored stripes) or very elaborate (images of people, animals, or things).

So I think that rules out the toga as a possibility.

On the other hand, the saree and dupatta are also large pieces of cloth draped either around the body and over the shoulder (and sometimes the head), and usually they are either a single plain color, a plain color with a decorative trim, or an all-over pattern. This is a lot closer to what Kui draws the kobolds wearing.

The tunics the kobolds are wearing could be many things, as what's visible is not an uncommon neck shape. They could be something like a kurta, kaftan, or abaya (tunic/robe)... And there's probably a dozen other similar garments that I'm neglecting to name.

There are a million variations on the kurta, but these neck styles looks like what Kui is drawing on a couple of those kobolds.

However, some of the tunics COULD also just be a depiction of what is often called a "Viking tunic" or kyrtill (Nordic name for a kirtle or tunic).

However in Dungeon Meshi, the kyrtill is extensively worn in the Eastern hemisphere, primarily by dwarves, tall-men and half-foots. So I don't think the Western hemisphere kobolds are wearing them, and the style of trim looks different to me than what Kui drew.

Kobold fashion could also be influenced by any culture from North Africa, West Asia, or the Middle East, as these are also cultures that appear to dominate the Western hemisphere of Dungeon Meshi, and that have similar fashion cultures involving patterned textiles and draping cloth/veils/head coverings...

However, because of what seems like a large draping cloth over the shoulder, and the combination of trim with a solid color, I think the primary influence is South Asian rather than these other cultures.

I hope that helps! And keep in mind that Kui loves to remix things, so I'm sure there's elements from other cultures that would fit right in with what she's shown us of the kobolds, if you want to get creative with your fan works!

About Amity black out, movie style

It's a great idea, I like it as a way to explain why JL never came to checki it out/why Amity Park never asked for help if we go with two way route.

But.

There is no wall that's perfect. And whoever had put up a black out (probably before JL was formed or else older people would probably try to contact them after bigger attack) had to know this. Some info would slip and if it was truly iron curtain, no info in or out, people would realize something was of.

So they did they best to filter out stuff that people shouldn't know, i.e. heroes and later, ghosts.

And if some article or message somehow slipped through anyway?

It's about movie. It's a way to sell a new superhero/supernatural movie.

I remember few years ago I watched YouTube video about movie from late 90' or early 00' that was announced like this. I'm, like, 70% sure it was "Blair Witch Project' but I have no idea. Point is, instead of trailers or anything like that, marketing team or whoever got this idea started making articles and stuff around the internet about things that happened in the movie/were clearly connected, framing it as a truth. A lot of people bought it. Actors weren't well known at the time so before premiere they went missing for like two weeks or so.

Whoever put a black out around Amity does the same but in reverse. If some smallest bit of truth gets past their defences, they put all their efforts into making it look like innovative marketing idea though with not as great execution since it's obviously a marketing trick.

Unless someone who shouldn't met hero/ghost on their vacation out/in the city, they could assume that this place is milking this upcoming movie like a golden cow or something. In some circumstances, even meeting the hero/ghost could not break their belief.

I'm not sure how to go about when ghosts affected world outside, like Ember or Undergrowth thing (though, in YJ cartoon was this thing about Poison Ivy getting some boost and sending some weird plants all around the world maybe it happened at the similar time and they never realized there were two plant villains at that time, idk, I know norhing more about these fights other than that these two things happened xD). I'm sure someone with actual knowledge about both universes would manage to find something

But yeah, that's the idea. Every info about JL and hero/villain bullshit looks like movie trailers in Amity while ghost mess when it happens, looks the same to the rest of the world.

Up to you is how the containment is breached (though, how about it's not Bats or Constantine? I like them lot but maybe let's give others time to shine)

started with the idea of turning reverie into a ggg oc n worked from there to make a fake level

reverie being the god of safety came immediately initially i had trouble figuring out how to go about with them bc my og idea felt too similar to what we're told is going down in buzzhuzz but focusing back on three specific elements of og reverie helped a LOT n gave a lot of direction those elements being escapism dissociation and fire

the level takes place in the wunderholz hotel which is currently in disrepair and only being operated by one person ie the receptionist cupid d. andrews as the rest of the staff are doing literally anything else as the request of reverie before their domain became basically inaccessible

location was vague originally all i had in mind was wanting there to be physical danger throughout the level similar to the finale of milldread so originally it was gonna take place in a forest (hence the hotel being named wunderholz. literally just wonderwood in german) n the danger element was just gonna be that the forest was on fire but that doesnt really work bc like. fire department?? + extremely visible + would easily spread to the other areas so it needed to be something less obvious n not as clear of a fix-it bc its supposed to be tied to reverie (like miss mitternacht's flood n cobigail's vines) THEN remembered the shining (book not movie) which snapped into place the danger being an overheating boiler n the level taking place in a hotel

other stuff reverie was chief of safety when the hotel was being built (which they got elected for) their domain is in the basement right next to the boiler (formerly n still kind of employee breakroom) n in universe it wasnt originally supposed to be a hotel but construction got switched to one after reverie ascended (pretty cool to have a god in ur basement tbh) also hobbyhoo implies that the letter shenanigans have been going on for at least a few days bc of the last few episodes sucking n im running with that for this with it being like two weeks or so

marcelee d'vonair used to be a sfm oc whos design i never nailed down her thing back then was just she was an uninspired fashion designer n u gave her some photos of fashionable habitants to cheer her up marcelee now is the chief of safety at the hotel n the one in charge of the boiler but is instead outside chatting about fashion with vib during the level and you have to get vib away from her for the end sequence (crucial thing vib is actually working on stuff while marcelee is all talk n dodging questions)

she n cupid are (currently until i play with things further) the only reverie followers in the level (bc other followers typically go into fields more immediately relevant to maintaining safety (osha god) like repairmen or health inspectors) n were the two that were (attempting) to keep the hotel in shape during reverie's absence until a few days ago where the stress of not being able to fix the boiler (+ inability to get help from specifically reverie) got to marcelee n she stopped trying n avoided the issues by dreaming up fashion ideas (n not doing anything bc its safer not trying than it is to fail)

cupid's changed the least of the three hes just been redrawn in the style n had his story adjusted accordingly (rip stupid paper bag he used to have 😔✌️) hes the character godpoke would be interacting the most with n provides the hints for progressing (for reasons that will become clear when we get to reverie) n he also provides the obligatory flirt line with his greeting ("hey sweetheart!")

for the last few days cupid has been solely responsible for keeping the wunderholz together which hasnt been going very well bc hes just one person n while he has the knowledge of all the stuff thats done to keep things running he doesnt have the practical skills or experience to fix things like leaks (which the hotel needs regularly bc its oldddddddddddd) or The Boiler so hes stressed n no one's listening to him bc hes just the receptionist what does he know n he can't leave to get help bc everything Will fully fall apart if he goes (believe it or not this is actually much better than his situation in his og story. mostly due to it being significantly shorter but still) and is deeply grateful for godpoke's help although was startled by them initially bc their room is... "unavailable due to damages"

the entrance to the basement is superficially blocked off with a paper danger sign (similarly to the woodboards in front of mitternacht's entrance) n u just get rid of it with megapon after cupid gives the ok for godpoke bc well they have a mask so they should be fine

hearthy haunt is a lush green forest with a fireplace (? is it still called that if its outside) thats perfect for cozying up n unwinding however that is not the hearthy haunt you get to experience during the level as the place is filled with smoke obscuring everything from sight and rendering the area near uninhabitable

reverie themself is completely out of it not even aware that someone else is in their domain (or whats happening around them) n unfortunately this means that reverie isnt too much of a character for the level (marcelee n cupid are more prominent to fill the story gap) but is used as a puzzle solving mechanic by throwing stuff at them to steer their daydreams to get specific lines to twist n stretch (was also thinking maybe that u have to suck up some smoke with megapon to be able to hear their responses similar to drying sirena off but that sounds Really Annoying mechanically so probably not)

dont really have specifics in mind for whats said in the letter reverie received just like what its about n what its angling for the angle is to get reverie out of the picture obviously so the rift can continue to open but the means is emphasizing the disharmony between gods (that are literally a result of the letters) n doing so heavily on the disconnect between thespius-click clack n bauhauzzo-huzzle mug bc those are the dynamic duos!! we're really screwed if even they arent getting along!! n the letter being more.. sympathetic ig by being about letting people live in blissful ignorance that end times are near cause theres no way we- i mean you would be able to close it without the other gods help it's best to just give up n try to have fun with the time you have which results in reverie trying to see the logistics of only 3-4 gods closing the rift by themselves coming to the conclusion it wouldnt work (didnt talk to the other gods bc well the god of innovation is in a quarrel n as the next best thing they dont think they stand a chance) n asked the staff to do as they please before lying down n giving up bc its safer to leave them now than to watch everything end

end of level stuff end sequence (ie getting the milldread berry or romantic bulb) is triggered by getting a whistle from the boiler (it gets louder n more shakey as the level progresses. also can be used as a flirt line on other characters bc i think that's kinda fucked up) n throwing it at cupid netting the line "THE BOILER'S BEGGING TO BURST!" to then throw at marcelee who cracks admits to avoiding her responsibilities (n cupid) forms an evacuation plan n gives the two final lines to throw (in the order marcelee says them "oh reverie... looks what's been done." (shes not addressing reverie here its more like shes saying oh dear) n "i'll get everyone outta here lickety-split!") which are thrown reverse order at reverie to shock them out of their episode and reveals what remains of hearthy haunt

reverie's domain is desolate the once tranquil woods is now charred logs and ashes with only the hearth and reverie themself being left standing

surprised by godpoke being there reverie reflexively puts on their psa bravado but still somewhat dazed n the destruction clear around the two its dropped quickly while reverie puts the pieces together of what's happened n bides godpoke farewell while drawing together some cleanup plans

leaving their domain has a quick cutscene of the boiler stabilizer now no longer being superheated by the fire n you go back upstairs n outside for the final cutscene of the area where everyone rejoices upon realizing the boiler's not gonna blow

goodbye dialogue stuff reverie's is about prioritizing getting some stuff that needs to be fixed done before they leave for the rift how they shouldnt have given up without a fight n a joke about how reverie has literally no idea who godpoke is (as in joke to us reverie isnt making a joke. they refer to godpoke as puppydog tho bc they dont know their name) marcelee laments leaving cupid to deal with things by himself n being too ashamed to get help from another town but remarks they did at least help vib brainstorm some outfits cupid is SO relieved that everything worked out n the line about godpoke's room comes back with cupid revealing that its unavailable bc its where cupid was staying as he wasnt able to go home during the whole ordeal jokes about giving godpoke a share of their next paycheck bc they never clocked out n have been working overtime "but seriously sweetheart at least let me comp your room... whenever i get it fixed up that is." (if the sweetheart line was used on cupid the paycheck joke is replaced with him offering a pity date)

n thats all for the story other misc stuff both cupid n marcelee capitalize They/Them when referring to reverie n while theyre both followers of reverie marcelee leans more towards it being bc she's a fan of reverie as a person while cupid is more about what reverie represents vague idea for bizzyboy video for the area is about deferring to authorities n professionals ie what they position themselves as (styled like schools psas about calling 911 in emergencies. bizzyboy home invasion skit) idk how much more i'll do with this outside of doodles but if this was an actual legel there'd probably not like a lot of interactable npcs in the area with some being bizzyboy van driver adjacent as in theyre in the environment to show theres people n in my mind theres one interactable npc thats a family on vacation (even got a specific set of old ocs in mind for them) but functions like a normal npc outside of their dialogue (as in u throw something at the family n they all react to it rather than each character being a separate npc) cupid is nonbinary n gendered language is a mix of neutral n feminine (he/him only for pronouns tho) n capochin is the only character who the sweetheart line doesnt work on as a flirt line bc he recognizes it as cupid's voice n immediately (and vaguely) complains about something that happened before godpoke arrived (i have something specific in mind but its funnier to leave it vague. capochin is the only bizzyboy in the level that doesnt appear inside the hotel for related reasons)

reverie's relationships n views of the other gods was decided entirely based on reverie being the god of safety so theyre extremely fond of bauhauzzo huzzle mug inspekta (ruh roh) n king bc theyre all gods of things important for safety (+ bonus industrial revolution for buzzhuzz duo) n then for the rest reverie doesnt like cobigail bc she likes scary type pranks n reverie doesnt (wimp 😔✌️) neutral towards thespius n click clack n neutral leaning positive towards miss mitternacht bc of her being the oldest god so they should show her some respect

HORRORTALE

The Universe

The famine is actually something that has happened before, way in the past when monsters were first trapped in the Underground. A lot of the knowledge of how it was overcome was lost with Asgore and Toriel however, and a lot of the older monsters were either too young to remember or were the first to fall down when it resurfaced again.

The famine is actually caused by an overabundance of magic. When the monsters were first sent into the underground they brought all of their magic with them, it soaked into the ground, rocks and water. The new density of magic caused any crops to become 'overripe'. The Core failing did the same thing, sending a new intense wave of magic through the Underground. If they had gotten the Core up and running the way it used to, it would regulate magic once more.

The only reasons Reuben's magic was able to restart the Core briefly was because it has the same magical signature as Gaster, it has nothing to do with power level or anything like that. When Gaster fell into the Core his magic became interwoven in its mechanisms, a significant boost of a similar magic (either from Reuben or Dagwood) would have been enough to restart it.

In my headcanon, Toriel was also defeated by Frisk. This is because I believe this 'run' was someone's first and only, someone who gave up trying to talk it out, someone who didn't bother to go back and get the 'best possible ending'.

Not that many humans have actually fallen down during the second great famine, at least not enough to affect anyone who has eaten them. Most of the changes that have happened to monsters are because of the extra magic, it changed them to help them survive tougher conditions. For example, making them taller/bigger, sharper teeth, improved vision etc. In some cases, this has affected their mental state as well.

Both Reuben and Dagwood's teeth and size are a result of the extra magic that the Underground got flooded with. Most monsters have been affected physically in some way by it. Their bodies changed to be able to handle that amount of magic. There was some emotional struggle since monster souls are so in tune with magic, so it was harder for them to keep their emotions and magic in check. But over time it has become easier as they adjust to their new reality.

They both know sign language, as Reuben sometimes finds it hard to speak verbally.

Style: He likes dressing in cosy winter gear. Big jackets, jumpers, big grippy boots, etc. He almost always wears his matching yellow gloves and scarf, although sometimes he'll swap it out for something else Dagwood has made for him.

Reuben can cook, but he's not as good as his brother.

He loves spicy food.

Reuben has four pet chickens that he loves very much. Their names are Spoon, Knife, Fork and Ms Ice-cream Apple Pie.

Reuben likes to take care of the groceries and any other short errands around town. He'll often take one of his chickens (usually Spoon) with him if he has the opportunity.

Reuben loves to savour his kisses, much preferring soft lingering kisses and being closer to you. He likes if you take the lead as he's perfectly happy to get lost in it.

He 'doesn't dance'.

Reuben would like to work with animals, perhaps in some sort of petting farm or animal daycare.

Style: He likes light coloured clothing and he likes to look smart. He often wears button-ups, dress shoes and long coats. He's never seen without a pair of gloves, as his bones are heavily scarred and he prefers not to look at them.

Other facts and info:

Dagwood is a very skilled cook. He made it a priority to properly learn once they made it to the surface, taking advantage of the wider variety of foods available compared to underground.

He cooks mostly savoury things but he loves sweets. He's still not the best at making them though since he likes to make sure everyone eats healthy first.

Likes spicy food.

Dagwood is very outspoken, partially stemming from his brother's selective mutism. He's not afraid to speak up for others who need it.

He's very protective of those weaker than him, and keeps up a consistent workout routine to make sure he's always in fighting shape (the boost of magic from the core exploding in their au makes this very easy for him).

He likes to knit in his spare time too, although it's not something that he openly shares. The scarf and gloves that Reuben wears are a past birthday gift from him.

He was the main one that monsters in Snowdin went to if they needed help and that need to take responsibility never went away. He would melt if someone went out of their way to take care of him.

Because of the shape of his teeth, Dagwood's kisses are usually very gentle and precise. He'll usually take the lead and hold your face to direct you. Both because he likes the act of control and because he doesn't want you to accidentally get poked.

He really loves kids. If his partner also wanted kids he'd probably want at least two so that they'd always have a friend/someone to rely on. He'd also be open to adopting/fostering older kids who need a home.

About his relationship with Undyne. There were a lot of tense feelings at the start of the famine, a lot of magic going haywire, so their relationship was very rough for a while after his brother got hurt*. It's been a few years now and they've worked on and rebuilt their relationship as they've worked together to help the remaining monsters.

*It happened during an argument where her magic got out of control. She meant to summon one spear as a show of power but accidentally ended up summoning multiple.

He loves any kind of dancing with a partner.

Dagwood would love to be a teacher of some sort. Probably somewhere around the preteen level.

His favourite colours are pastels, but specifically blue.

OC time! Prolly a bit early considering I made this tumblr alive again like a week ago but yk what i dont care.

Meet my PJ Masks OC Kitsu! To be honest, she was my first OC ever made… back then I was still trying to find a nice art style and I was too shy to make OCs. But yeah I saw other people making OCs so i was like “yo why not try it myself!”, so i made her back in 2017? 2018? Somewhere during season 3 of the show. She has gotten so many redesigns, but i’m pretty chill with this one for now :]

Her personality:

She is cunning and mischievous, always trying to find new ways of entertaining herself. She’s sharp-witted and a quick thinker, but can make very stupid decisions sometimes, especially when she’s full of herself. She normally can’t take criticism and will most likely take it as a joke, if not insult you back. She does love to tease people, trying to push them to their limits for the soul purpose of entertainment. She rarely takes anybody seriously, which is why she sees herself as higher than others. But below that, she’s very loyal and does care for the people she trusts the most.

She doesn’t know what her purpose is in this world, so she tries to just make the best of her experience by doing anything she wants. And the best way to do that is by causing conflict between everyone else. She’s not on anyone’s side really,, She will change sides depending on how fun it’ll be for her. Which does make her quite lonely at times. girly just needs some friends 😭😭💔

So her powers:

Kitsu has shape shifting powers, can take the form of anyone and anything she wants, but won’t inherit the powers of the one who’s trying to mimic. She can hold the form for as long as she likes. Her second power is Agility. She’s quite fast, can climb easily and dodge with no problem.

Now her backstory:

It’s pretty hard to talk about her backstory, because it’s very similar to munki-gu. Again, she was created wayy before him and it just so happened that the writers came up with the same idea. So I was kinda forced to change it 🥲

So in her verse, before mystery mountain was a floating island above the city, it was a part of a different universe. The mountain was on a land, where there was a village protected by 4 mountains, all on different sides of the land. The Dragon mountain of the East, the Vermilion Bird mountain of the South, the White Tiger mountain of the West and the Turtle mountain of the North(yes this is a reference to the four symbols, look it up). In the middle of these mountains was a town, which was protected by these mountains. An Yu lived on the dragon mountain. Since she was born of the “dragon blood”, she would be trained to become the protector of the mountain. (yes i have made designs for the other protectors too >:3)

There were loads of magical creatures living amongst the humans, most of which were harmful to them. So An Yu’s ancestors, having so much power and control, decided it would be best to imprison the creatures to prevent further harm. (hence why Munki-gu was imprisoned too) Kitsune’s were a big harm to society however, that their magical box prisons weren’t enough, considering they could shapeshift. So they decided to exterminate them all. An Yu witnessing all of it, decided to secretly save just one (that being Kitsu).

Years later, there was a war between the mountain guardians and ninjas, who wanted to steal their powers (I thought Night ninja and his ninjalinos could be descendants of them). It ended up in the universe getting completely destroyed, with An Yu having to sacrifice herself to save her mountain, getting imprisoned in the gong as a result. An Yu, after getting rescued, still held the burden of her ancestors imprisoning Kitsu’s species, so ashamed of their past actions, that she never tried to set Kitsu free. She was too scared to confront her, since she thought her and other magical creatures would rise against her and blame her for everything.

A few days after the PJ Masks rescue An Yu in the show, one day, they decide to give her a visit. While An Yu was showing the PJs around the pagoda, Catboy becomes a bit too curious and finds the box where Kitsu was imprisoned, accidentally letting her out in the process. When Kitsu was set free, she needed to give herself a new physical form, so she chose to mimic the first person to let her out, that being Catboy. But since she can only mimic the physical appearance of someone and not their powers, her “PJ Mask” suit didn’t include an animal symbol on her chest. Her suit can still light up when using her own powers though. Finally let out, she fled into the city, until she was ready to start causing mischief. After that, An Yu forbid the PJs from entering the mountain for a while, but still blaming herself for letting her guard down and letting Kitsu free.

so that’s what I have so far, the rest will be decided with time since the show is episodic annd literally anything can happen xd

Prowler Vs Miguel O' Hara

I was just thinking about how in ASTV, Miguel doesn't use his webs a lot, and I thought about more how he mainly uses his claws, and how else uses his claws a lot? Prowler! So I made a connection and fell down a rabbit hole of similarities, and now I want to share them with you.

(Btw I'm not sure if this was really the intent for his design but I just wanted to talk about parallels between The Prowler and Miguel. )

First off and most obvious the claws.

Even though Miguel has organic web shooters, and does use them on occasion, he seems to mainly stick to using claws to fight and get around, especially during the chase scene in the city where he mostly used his claws to propel himself forward. (Even when he was flying through the city he used flying squirrel-like wings to chase, not his webs.)

On top of that they have similar fighting styles when using their claws, using it to push themselves forward and tearing through things around them to get closer to, most often, miles.

On top of that Miles has a very similar response to Miguel chasing him as he did in ISTV when they're all in Aunt May's House. Scrambling and fighting frantically to get away from a much bigger and stronger opponent, and even though in ASTV Miles got a lot more accustomed to being spiderman, he still had trouble escaping Miguel and was very clearly afraid like he was when facing off against Uncle Aaron as the Prowler.

So on top of having claws in common they also use them in similar ways and get similar reactions out of Miles.

Second Is their masks

Although it's a small detail they both have similar eye designs. A small curl near the farthest corner and a straight line in the corner of the eye. I don't have a lot to whole lot to say about this similarity but it's just another way their designs crossover.

(even Miles-42 has the pattern!)

Third their fates and behaviors

Even their behavior as characters in regard to what they're wearing is similar. we see videos of Miguel and his daughter, he's out of the suit and living happily with his family. When we see Uncle Aaron out of the suit, he's happy with Miles, his family.

But when when they get into their suit, they become focused machines, mind drilled into their missions, disregarding much around them and other people. Besides the small snippet of Miguel with his daughter, we never see him in anything else. Not even in his intro, where most other spiders, were shown in outfits besides their suits, which in my opinion, are meant to symbolize how their life without a mask and life with one are different.

But Miguel doesn't take his suit off, even when he has his mask off. After his daughters death, his spiderman life, and civilian life finally caught up with him and he is forced to live in-between them in a horrible limbo.

For Uncle Aaron it's different. His two lives are separated into two, and the only times he takes it off is when his lives converge. When Miles finds out that the Uncle Aaron is Prowler, Miles is destroyed, crushed but he knows. This ultimately leads to Uncle Aaron's death in the end.

When Miles reveals himself to Uncle Aaron at Aunt May's house, it's a last long shot that Miles hopes will convince him to spare Miles. His family. But once Uncle Aaron lets him go, he dies, his two lives converging for a final time. Spelling disaster for a final time.

Tying into the multiverse

I'm not completely sure that the symbolism of the suit and mask and civilian clothes would be so prevalent to their stories, and the stories of other spiders, but it really gets you thinking about the repetition in different universes and how it all blends together.

With Gwen, when she comes face to face with her dad, her civilian life, and spider man identify come together, forcing her to make difficult and life changing decisions. With Pavitr, his love Gayatri, pushed him to rescue the inspector. With Miles's help, Gayatri and her father were both saved, and they all met. Momentarily converging his life between the suit and his civilian life, which ending up potentially ending his universe.

Well, this was a lot and it really just a rant about how good the writing and story is and my interpretation of some of it, so major respect to everyone who worked on these movies. It really is incredible and i'm so pumped to see what they do with these characters in BTSV

It depends on how you want to present your oc, and everything Im going to say under read more are entirely my own opinions sooo see what works for you mate!

(Lemme preface this by saying the more you stress about what others are thinking, the less motivated to do anything oc related, so try not to overthink too much on it xD) It's easier said than done but once you get over the nervous period, everything else can run smoother than usual, anyway!

The simplest way to do it, is literally like what I did, show a picture/a meme/picrew/art/mood board, anything that represents your oc, and say "hey! this guy's been in my head for a while now and I thought yall might wanna see em :3"

The least awkward ways are through memes and Im not even kidding, you could show your clip of someone doing something dumb or your oc core and just go "dude this reminds me of my oc" and go from there

^ those, are specifically for if you want to introduce your oc to your friends

v these, are more like if you want to make a public post generally, a lot of these are more like how do you want people to be interested/how to hook people in, basically they're my opinion from a creator perspective, learned from seeing other people's posts and from my own experiences!

What is the main focus of your OC? are they a character paired with a canon character? are they their own character in their own universe and such?

(Assuming your boy is from COD or specific fandom) Use canon characters to your advantage

If the OC is someone who is paired with a canon character, you can introduce them by putting the attention on said canon character first, then introduce your OC through canon character's pov or something like that

People are more often used to seeing something they already know first hand before they focus on the new things, what I'm trying to say is people are more likely to stop scrolling if they see "Nikolai" first in a post rather than "[name that no one knows]"

For example, if you're doing an incorrect cod quote style of post, start with Soap/Ghost (or like any cod character really) saying something then add your OC into the mix, then the people who are reading the post would go "huh? who's the new guy?" Yk? hook your audience in when they least expect it

Soap: why the hell are you in the kitchen, baking...cookies?

Ghost: I got bored

OC: I lost controlled of my life

Ghost: also OC chugged like the entire milk carton so we need to buy more tomorrow

Soap: ????

The funnies, memes or like...something hot are more likely to grab attention, you could go gungho and explain that your OC is a super cool medic or sniper and all that but it's not that interesting if you consider half if not 80% of cod fandom OCs are bound to be similar bcuz it's a military game (I'm not saying no one here has unique OC btw, I am being general here)

Imo, I feel like a full post introducing the character from their name to divisions to legions to family name to dog 1 2 3 names are less interesting. Yes, these kinds of posts are important if someone wants to know more about them, but using that as the first post is a bit draggy and can make people lose interest easily! Think about it, using COD guys for example, when we played the game or watched any playthrough, if you saw Ghost you're immediately interested because the way he was presented - some big guy with a skull face, not because of a full line text in your face xD

You don't need a whole backstory, just a name, a callsign or what they do is enough for an introduction

Visuals are the way to go! If you have a photo of your oc, doesn't matter a faceclaim, picrew, art or even a whole mood board, posting those are more likely to gain interests

The Amanda Fic Lore

So you know how the games slowly reveal more about the character’s real lives as the tapes go on. Well unfortunately, I have no idea what the third, fourth or any other number of games in this series are going to do. So for my Amanda fic series, I’m going to make up my own lore. (mostly based on my interpretations of the characters so a lot of these are going to be similar to that post). I guess you could think of this as an AU cuz I’ll probably never get everything right. Just so you know I may edit this when I come up with more ideas.

Amanda: (We know plenty about her already so she’s not going to be that much different from the game.)

Rebecca Colton. 

Had morbid interests as a child long before Hameln.

Has a dark sense of humor

As Rebecca, she was genuinely a ray of sunshine to be around. (Even with morbid interests). 

Secretly has a dark sense of humor

Very adventurous 

Does not like her plans being changed

Loves to draw (we see it multiple times).

Has had past trauma before Hameln even entered the picture (Sam's despite what she's been through in reference to her adoption). 

Has some varying level of interest in goth/emo/punk style.

She doesn’t resent Sam. 

Wants to keep her memories of Sam and Kate close.

I saw a theory that maybe Rebecca was trying to get Sam and Kate together like maybe there were some sparks flying there. I really like that so it might be canon in this universe. 

She’s starting to lose hope that she’s going to escape. 

Starting to slowly trust Wooly again and be his friend again. 

Trying to learn to control her anger issues. 

The Amanda wiki says she is 7-8 years old. So that’s the age we’re gonna stick with for when she got stuck in the tapes. I’m going to go with 8.

Based on reader suggestions, human name for this fic series will be William Scott.

Was ten years old when trapped. A child actor like Amanda, has been working with Hameln longer than her. 

Was a child of a single mother who never wanted children. She tried to be loving at first but eventually gave up. Spends most of her time working or away. He ended up being a parentified older sibling and that’s why he acts so “mature” and seems so worried about safety. She ended up signing off his soul to Hameln in order to make money and basically get rid of him. So he has a bit of abandonment issues. 

He had a little sister, never saw her again after being sold off to Hameln. Doesn’t know if she met the same fate. They were very close. Amanda reminds him of her sometimes, even though they were very different. EDIT: You know what? Maybe it's cuz I really like angst, but what if Wooly's sister passed away instead? Like prior to Wooly being sent to Hameln. Like maybe in some sort of accident while they were playing when their mom wasn't home?)

Slowly remembering his past life (way slower than Amanda because he doesn’t want to remember). 

Doesn’t think they can escape.

Not exactly loyal to Hameln, but terrified of what will happen if they disobey. Slowly starting to not care anymore. 

Bottles up every negative emotion but is getting to a point where he can’t hold it in anymore. 

Starting to become more rebellious

Slowly repairing his relationship with Amanda

Hates being alone. 

Will avoid talking about uncomfortable subjects at all costs. Tends to be a bit controlling. 

His intentions are good. But let us remember what they say. The road to hell was paved with good intentions. 

He seems to be that one goody-two shoes friend in a friend group that's like: "We shouldn't do this." Even if it's objectively not that bad. 

Prone to panic or anxiety attacks.

And how do we feel about adding in the autistic head canon?

The Narrator is Sam

The "Owl" uses prerecorded voice lines of Kate, but cannot say anything else and isn't actually Kate. Why is she an owl? We'll have to wait and see...

Over time the more Amanda learns about Wooly the less afraid of her the demon will become.

Also, I think Wooly's demon will become less violent the less he keeps bottling things up. But it'll get worse before it gets better.

Once I get a couple tapes written I’m going to put them in an order that makes sense like some post that will be linked in the pinned post or whatever. But for now I’m gonna write them as the ideas come to me. If you have any Amanda fic lore to suggest, let me know. If I find it interesting I’ll add it in. 

Also these fics are completely separate from the School Shopping fic. 

As I said before, this isn’t necessarily what I think will happen in the games, it’s just some placeholder lore for me to use to build them around.

I defended Lom, but now I shall talk about Nuea

So...a lot of this is going to be a bit rant-y, because honestly there's some reactions that have been going on that really aggravate me. But I wanted to talk more about Nuea as a character in the show, and how I think he's being presented. You hear (for reasons unknown) a lot of discussion over how Lom is almost tricking Nuea by withholding the fact that his arrangement and marriage to Yiwa is in name only. I have so many problems with this read on the situation. While it is VERY common for BLs to use naivety as a trope, it's actually surprisingly rare to see from Mame. It's not one of her go-to's and so I was actually really surprised at how many people saw Nuea as 'innocent' (read virginal) or naive. We saw a similar reaction with Sky, this idea that he's an innocent little lamb, and I kind of figured that was because that's what Rain was. Rain was clearly modeled to be this sort of ingénue-style character, young, wide-eyed, innocent to an extent, but also experimental, not constrained by societal boundaries. But what the first encounter with Prapai showed was that he was not only not innocent, but experienced. Now granted many of his experiences were likely awful and traumatic, but Gun likely didn't got straight from 1 to 100, abusers rarely do, but there's also no clarity at all on whether Sky had any other intimate partners of his own choosing, whether a relationship or just another one-night stand. But circling back to my actual point, I think there are many viewers for which LITA was their first experience with Mame, and they believe Rain to be the blueprint for her 'bottoms' when in reality he's an outlier.

How this affects the perception of Nuea, is that since he is shown to be a fairly quiet, sensitive, kind person, some viewers began making assumptions. They assume that he's not physically experienced, that he's submissive, or even shy, and that's not really the case. We don't see much to indicate that at all in the show. He's very vocal for a lot of the show. He expresses his concerns to his boss freely, without concern for reprisal, and this certainly due at least in part to the type of boss she is, but even if she were some angry, obstinate crone, I doubt that would have stopped him. He's very vocal and honest in his conversations with Lom all through the series. He doesn't put up with any of Lom's rich/privileged BS. His kindness and empathy throughout is more a show of strength than anything. He's able to pretty easily get the results he wants without being rude, or mean. Even in his frustration with Lom, he's not vicious, but exasperated, reacting to Lom's childishness more like an exhausted nanny than anything else.

Nuea is confident, like really confident. He's confident in his abilities and skill at work. He's a confident gay man, he doesn't shy away from sex. His hesitation in regards to sleeping with Lom initially is based only on his knowledge of the likely fall-out (especially emotionally). Once we get to this most recent episode it's very clear that he has no hesitation in being an active and passionate partner.

I'm willing to bet after the absolute boss way that he shut down that shitty orchard customer, that we may see his confidence make an appearance next week in regards to Lom and Yiwa's mothers acting like petulant toddlers.

I think it's also important to remember that while he is younger than Lom (his actor is actually younger than ALL of the LITA boys), he's not actually all that young. While ages and timelines are pretty vague in the Mame-verse, Prapai should be about 30 in the Wedding Plan, and Lom is meant to have been his junior while they were getting their Masters, so he's probably 27-ish. Nuea, having attended university and worked as an event planner for several years is probably 25. He's not a child, and their age difference is practically negligible. Again, I feel this is an assumption based on the idea that LITA is the norm, when it's very much not. All of Mame's other main couples (in shows) have either been the same age, or with in a year or two of each other.

So while Lom may have some power/privilege over Nuea, it's very much situational and based on him being 'employed' by him, which is something that we as the audience know he could change if he really wanted to. We see that P'Im is more than willing to go to bat for her employees, Lom wouldn't be able to pull a Karen and get him fired, or forced to work with him. And while Lom is rich, Nuea's family has a generational business and owns a large amount of property. It's not the same level of rich by any means, Lom essentially has fuck you money, but it's still not like Nuea would be without resources and support if he chose to quit his job or leave Bangkok.

Also, the fact that he gets upset or cries over Lom, doesn't make him 'weak.' I've not heard anyone say that directly, but it's been implied. It's not weak for a man to be able to recognize and express his emotions. That's toxic masculinity bullshit, and we certainly don't want to be putting that pressure on characters that are actively defying it.

I guess in conclusion, my point is that Nuea is a bad-ass, the best kind of bad-ass even, one with a kind heart, and that he's more than capable of standing up for himself both in general and with Lom.

As a final note, what I realized watching episode 3 is that Lom 10000% has a competency kink, and further watching of the show only confirms that. He first encounters Nuea while he works at Pai's wedding and immediately begins lusting. The wedding suit try-ons where he looks at Nuea after learning he took pictures of each choice so that you don't have to try something on over and over again. He gets riled up watching him do the event where Payu proposes. He falls even harder watching Nuea put the creep in his place. Like...he just loves watching his man get shit done, and I respect (and understand) that.

If everyone in P:EG had a console, what games would they be into?

Small CH1 spoilers

Cassidy: All of them, but particularly anything highly competitive and with a lot of depth.

Damon: Logic and puzzle games, since he likes feeling smart after beating them. Though he has a soft spot for visual novels with a horror/mystery aspect, such as Slay the Princess, Doki Doki Literature Club, and Danganronpa, for similar reasons. (I mean, he's the protag, I had to give him Dangan xD)

Desmond: First person shooters, because he's really good at them and takes pride in that.

Diana: Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and similar sandboxy/simulator games with a peaceful atmosphere. Uses games to chill, and loves forming deep attachments to NPCs. Has cried over the death of a Minecraft wolf before, but then again, who hasn't?

Eloise: Fighting games, since she can apply quite a few of the concepts used in fencing while playing them. The only reason she didn't go to the Super Slam Sisters tournament is that she can get kinda intense playing them and didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable (this might be a great moment to remind everyone these are pretty unserious headcanons and nothing else :v).

Eva: RPGs are her jam, but she also enjoys puzzle and logic games, especially if they involve real world science.

Grace: Anything highly competitive, especially sport or fighting games.

Ingrid: According to her profile, she likes combat, so she's partial to fighting games, though she generally doesn't like video games too much.

Jean: Party games such as Mario Party, because it's what his crew plays on his ship when they bring a console, so it reminds him of home.

Jett: Racing games, for obvious reasons, but he can also enjoy anything with a competitive element.

Kai: He prefers playing mobile games, mainly runner style. He's the in-universe person who popularized the "Subway Surfers on the side of the video" Tiktok strategy by using his own gameplay. He's actually surprisingly good at it.

Mark: Rhythm games. Is secretly a top tier osu player. No one has connected the dots between said top player and Mayhem, and Mark would like to keep it that way.

Toshiko: Dating sims, she calls it "research." Also thoroughly enjoys RPGs with interesting characters, but which have a relatively lighthearted theme, like Undertale and Pokemon.

Ulysses: Although he dislikes computers per his student profile, if he has to choose a game, it would be something trivia or puzzle based. Again, he likes both those things according to his profile.

Wolfgang: Visual novels are his jam, and his favorite is obviously Ace Attorney. Even if he does get ticked off every time he spots some kind of inaccuracy in the depiction of the legal system. To quote him: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN UPDATED AUTOPSY REPORT?!?!?!??!"

Wenona: Resource management strategy games, such as Factorio. Since she feels a pretty deep connection to bears (it's her animal symbol and she has a tattoo of one), the Clickteam FNAF games are her guilty pleasure, and she's beat UCN's 50/20 a few times, no Death Coin needed.

Tozu: He enjoys any game where he can either inflict suffering (Plague Inc, Sims, etc.) or let out his theater kid roleplaying skills.

Mara: Gruesome first person shooters and Animal Crossing. No inbetween.

Cara: Educational games and mobile games.

here is the ask game!

aaa ok so ruth hasn't actually existed in her current form for super long... she was definitely more nebulous to me than nicole for a long time. so there r sort of two answers to this. initially, ruth didn't exist at all in nicole's story- nicole was much less isolated there, and actually interacted with the rest of the town and her parents on "screen" (aka. in the stories i told myself with her in my head). initially, it was just about her going home and finding that the people there had established some weird and sort of fucked up new religion. but from there i decided they should be worshipping SOMETHING and so i came up with ruth! she was always nicole's childhood friend/crush/whatever/nightmare situationship but originally the ruth in the story WAS the same person as said friend. eventually i just decided it would be more interesting if she was something Different. i like stories about locations that just seem to have had something Wrong with them from the very start- stuff like the land the house (house) on ash tree lane is built on in house of leaves or the town in uzumaki. ruth is sort of like if that concept was a fully sentient, distinct being.

3. appearance but like. ruth 1.0's appearance. i omitted her face for thematic + tonal purposes and from there i just eventually made a design that didn't have one at all! ruth CAN have a face but i don't think i could draw it as scary as it is in my head LOL. so i only ever draw it in parts. the best way i can describe the way i think of it is like. you know how some stop motion doll faces ALMOST look like people if they're made in the right style and have the right lighting?? (what i'm specifically thinking of is like. the stop motion from The Cat With Hands, which is a very good and scary short horror film if you haven't already seen it). she looks sort of like that. she doesn't like to have a face anyways, because nicole doesn't remember ruth 1.0's face well enough. whenever ruth tries to have her face, no matter how good it looks, nicole can tell the details are wrong, but not WHY, so ruth can't fix it. it makes her really mad.

7. i like her weird drippy "face"! and also when i draw her big scary eyes. a lot of it is just aesthetic- i really like drawing things that are dripping, and the eye shapes are super fun to draw.

8. a lot of it was created as a direct response to nicole's personality! i wanted a solid foil for her. more than anything, ruth is much more assertive than nicole- even to an extent that can be considered cruel. she's easy to frustrate and lashes out just as easily. i wouldn't say i'm super similar to either ruth or nicole, but they both have personalities stemming from qualities of mine. i think on the ruth-nicole spectrum, i'm more of a ruth, though.

11. hmm! i think junji ito's character tomie is similar in some ways. not intentional, though i did read junji ito's work with the voraciousness of someone who had trapped inside a cave with no entertainment for months, so tomie's probably in the inspiration soup somewhere. rose quartz from steven universe too now that i think about it. her line about not being able to act like a "real person" because she /isn't one/ has really stuck with me since that episode first aired. that sort of sentiment is definitely a big part of ruth. uhhh what else... the moopies from the phoenix by osamu tezuka!!! especially tamami from the "future" volume of the series. this idea of an inhuman alien CHOOSING to look like a human being and it becoming so fundamental to her identity... that's more of an intentional influence. also. as much as i loathe to admit it. pon-chan from guru guru pon chan. a truly haunting (to me) shoujo romance manga about a dog who has a magic slash incredibly technologically advanced bone charm that can transform her into a human girl! but she still has a dog brain! she is still a dog!!! the manga never lets you forget this! i think a lot of the darker implications of her character were unintentional, but people also still TREAT her like a dog for the most part. she is simultaneously forced into human society and sheltered from it, leaving her in a really tragic limbo where she's barred from full autonomy and full personhood, even. i am sincerely compelled by her, for better or for worse. ALSO. quick lightning round: hal 9000 (2001: a space odyssey), the house from anatomy by kitty horrorshow, both hill house and theodora from the haunting of hill house by shirley jackson (one of my very favorite books!), the thing from the thing, and the cenobites from hellraiser/the hellbound heart by clive barker

13. sssort of...? not the kind of thing i could link a 1:1 video for unfortunately. there are two ideas i think of for her voice. one is when my laptop speakers get sort of muffled/blocked somehow, and it creates a weird echo-ish effect to the voice of whatever youtuber i'm watching at the time. the other is... once again, from the thing! hooray for the thing! i love the way the thing screams (youtube link), where you can hear all the different layers to what it's assimilated into itself over all the time it's existed... eughh..... it rules. anyways, ruth has a weird sort of crackle/echo/scratchiness to her voice normally- it's sort of uncomfortable to hear. makes you feel like some hair or something is stuck in your ear... but nope! when she gets really upset her voice unravels and you can hear similar "layers" to it like the thing's screaming. it gets harder for her to enunciate like that, too.

14. aaahh, well from other media i already mentioned rose quartz steven universe's "i'm... not a real person". this also isn't something you can read for free unfortunately, but the artist DID post these panels publicly so i feel ok quoting it lol. in a recent page of cheap thrills (original comic here, patreon continuation here, posted-for-free remake/reimagining here. be aware that all of those contain significant themes of drug use/addiction and parental abuse. cheap thrills also contains explicit nudity/sexual content and depictions of suicidal ideation. rigsby wi contains sexually suggestive content) by se case, one character asks another "do you know what i would GIVE to be LOVED like YOU" and it's been on my mind a lot... wrt quotes BY ruth, one thing i come back to a lot with her is the sentiment that if nicole doesn't like her she should just "make something else"- which is a mockery of her. nicole won't make something else of ruth. ever. why would she? there's also her idea that anything she sees as wrong with her is NICOLE'S fault for not even being able to remember "her" well enough. she's mean lol!!!

17. stars and botanical imagery- especially roots and various flowers! i've drawn her with wasps before and would like to do that more often, too.

19. oooh this is an interesting one. i like the vagueness of what "favorite" and "least favorite" mean in this context. i will do my best to give the most well-rounded answers i can lol. i think in terms of like. personality. as in "what would i like or dislike about her if she was real" ruth is a very outwardly resilient and confident person which i think is admirable! on the flip side, she is an asshole. from the perspective of me being her creator, i like drawing her "weirder" designs- i actually feel a little insecure about her "main" look sometimes. i find it annoying when the weirdest thing a story wants to come up with for a woman's design is just "woman with a few inhuman features", but on the other hand- i know that i CAN design more interesting/inhuman things, i just legitimately think that's how ruth would choose to look lol. she wants to be a human! like one very specific human!

20. haha! this one's fun. i unfortunately don't think i have any art to show off here... i post the majority of things i draw. WAIT actually i can show off some very early ruth pics. i think these were the first two things i ever drew of ruth (1.0...) i believe they're from 2021 (left) and 2022 (right). one on the left was drawn with my motherfuckingggg laptop trackpad i think. evil. why would i ever do that.

i will also say that i wanna draw something with ruth's fucked up anatomy soon!!! i made a post abt it and i wanna show off what that looks like...

nicole

nicole has existed since 2021 (according to the first piece i drew of her). iirc her design came from a limited palette challenge i was playing with and i ended up liking what i was coming up with so much i decided to keep her. it was sort of like finding some sad, sopping wet little animal under a car. story-wise her Character Bones come from my deep love of folk horror. i just wanted to make my own folk horror character!

3. appearance! i wanted to draw a character with long, wavy hair lol. she's also always sorta been the protagonist, just by virtue of being the character i came up with first re: her story. her name was also pretty immediate- i just really love the name "nicole" and wanted to give it to a character. naming ruth was a lot harder, actually- i usually choose names for their sound more than anything, but hers is actually one i chose based on meaning. nicole's personality actually developed last, and has changed the most out of those three things. she used to be much more put together. she had a decently successful career too... which. lol. lmao. no. nowadays i think that before she moved back home she was something like a receptionist or executive assistant somewhere but was too nervous + disorganized to be very good at it. very quiet and sort of off putting to her coworkers. also this image was another one done with my TRACKPADDD. WHY. WHY. WHY DID I EVER DO THAT. my hand hurts just thinking about it!!!! i swear it is an actual bible-level miracle i have never had tendonitis or carpal tunnel.

7. her weak chin and big arms are both v defining parts of her design to me... but she actually didn't have either at the start!! her face shape developed by the 4th-5th piece i drew of her (according to my computer lol)... something about it just felt much more like her, plus i liked how distinctive it was next to my other designs. her larger upper arms developed slower- i shifted her design to being fat pretty quickly, but she used to be more "proportional" for lack of a better term. i ended up shifting to making her more top-heavy over time, partially just for the sake of interesting design elements, and partially because i used to be similarly top-heavy. nicole's breast hypertrophy is a feature she inhereted directly from me lol. i also just don't think enough characters have really prominent upper arm fat! it's a cute feature and i really enjoy drawing it.

8. nicole is inspired a lot by traits i personally find very annoying LOL. mostly in others. i wanted to try and find a way to undestand/better sympathize with why people act like her... i can't really speak to how successful she's been in that regard, since i AM still ultimately limited by my own perception, but it's been interesting!! nicole is a selfish person in some very specific, self-infantilizing, victimizing ways, especially. i think in some ways she also probably reflects traits i fear seeing in myself- or traits i fear others seeing in me.

11. visually? uh. griffith from berserk sort of. curse of white person w/ long wavy hair.

in terms of personality/inspiration, there's a fair bit of eleanor from the haunting of hill house (book) in there. her and merricat from we have always lived in the castle are DEFINITELY big influences for nicole. there's also tonta from jaime hernandez's side of love and rockets. los bros hernandez are two of my biggest artistic inspirations... i find her such a fun character, and i love the way her design is rendered. i also read monster pulse by magnolia porter sidell when i was really getting into developing nicole, and i think the character of dr. lulenski definitely had an impact! lulenski's squeamishness and tendency to rationalize her own negative actions to herself especially strike me as influential here. there's also some sally hardesty in her for sure- visually, especially! nicole was definitely inspired somewhat by the archetype of the final girl in slashers, especially my fascination with the misogyny i think is sort of inherent to it. to give one more just to even out these pictures, the character of riley from em carroll's comics the hole the fox did make and the groom. both fantastic short horror stories. riley is a child, but the mood and setting of both stories definitely had an influence on nicole- especially the sense of dread and inevitability i always feel reading both.

13. i don't have a specific person in mind who i think sounds like her, but i can describe how i imagine her voice! nicole has a slightly scratchy voice, and she tends to intentionally speak in a higher register than what's natural. aside from the scratchiness, her voice is pretty soft most of the time. she has a southern accent and the strength of it fluctuates a little depending on the situation.

14. hmmm.... do i?! i'll have to think on this one for a second. oh, wait- yeah, for sure. "why don't they stop me?" from the haunting of hill house- this will probably only hit if you've also read the book, unfortunately, but MAN it is such a suckerpunch of a line. it's also the only one coming to mind for me right now LOL. there aren't a lot of specific phrases/lines of nicole's that really stick with me as quintessentially HER, at least not yet.

17. yes!!! lots of flowers- especially sunflowers and daisies, cornstalks, mountains, smoke, and telephone poles, mostly.

19. as a person, i think nicole really does try to be kind, for the most part, just for the sake of it. in terms of negative traits- i would find it incredibly frustrating how averse she is to owning up to wrongdoing LOL. as a character, i'm sincerely really proud of her design. i love how she looks. i guess in terms of least favorite there...? i'd like to get better at drawing her side profile ig. sometimes i really like how i render it and sometimes not as much. that's more of a me problem than a her problem, though.

20. hmmm...! well, i'm almost to 100 (digital) drawings of nicole (🎉). i wanna redraw the first thing i ever made of her for the 100th piece. i've also been thinking about maybe doing a longer series of interconnected illustrations with her sometime soon... i think that could be really fun!!

hi bow i know we haven't talked in a while but i have been thinking So Fucking Much about DICE lately so i had to ask. u got any DICE hcs?

heyyyyy first off i am SO so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this. i’ve been going through a lot of complicated personal stuff the past several months and it’s kept me off of social media…but i am back now! hopefully. i may not be the most active but i will try my best!!

NOW FOR THE QUESTION !!! DICE is a little funny for me…i love them so much and yet my mind’s perception of them constantly shifts…i can never seem to think of anything concrete for them. i love most theories about them to where i can’t decide which ones to believe in myself. like the 11th member…i really like all of the explanations people make for them. from cameraperson to pet to kokichi’s twin. I can’t decide which i like best so they’re all true at the same time for me.

for things that i CAN decide on…hm. Well they are Definitely orphans to me. and i think that like…that horse head in kokichi’s room? they all have one of those. they like to wear them regularly i think. it’s an extra mask. it gets pulled off their faces scooby-doo style to reveal the clown mask underneath.

and i Really like the card nicknames headcanon. but i think they have more than just standard deck names. like there’s Heart, Spade, Club, Clover, Ace, Joker. then you’ve got shit like Wild +4. Basic Darkness Energy. A Deal With Dark Ruler. Sour Cream From Steven Universe. they’re an unpredictable bunch…you can never guess what nickname they’re gonna use next.

the last one actually has an explanation. in an rp from like. jan 2019 i think? it was with DICE members and one of them pointed out how this guy’s hair looks like sour cream from steven universe

and in hindsight their hair is actually not that similar at all they are both just pointy. but that has stuck with me. and it’s funny. so i’ve been calling that member Sour Cream ever since

and speaking of comparing media…i imagine the group to have a dynamic similar to Giovanni’s Boys (gender neutral) from one of my favorite shows, the hit webseries epithet erased. they’re a gang of teenage petty criminals who are initially low-ranking members of an Actual criminal organization pyramid scheme but they eventually leave after giovanni proposes making their own evil organization. they’ve got goofy nicknames like Dark Star and Crusher and Flamethrower and Car Crash (but you can only get one if you earn it). giovanni wants to be a supervillain so bad and he is the sweetest guy ever who loves his minions so very much. these snippets from the book really fit DICE i think!

i look at them replacing hot dogs with cattails, and i nod and think…yes…DICE would do that…stupid but fun…that’s all they want…

they have their differences. giovanni and his boys (gender neutral) are very stupid. but i think the fundamentals of them both being groups of teens who just want to have fun and commit harmless petty crimes and who care so much for each other is Wonderful. i often think of this song to be DICE’s theme song even if i don’t think they are actually like how the banzai blasters are in the song. they’re smarter. But it’s a banger. i find them both very very fun (i think about kokichi saying lines from ee often…i have a list)

And this is not really a headcanon but i like how in the group photo everyone else has pants that at least Reach their ankles but kokichi is a rebel and wears pants that are just slightly too small for him. why does he do that. Weirdo (affectionate)
