Alright, after running this blog for over a year I've decided to make an actual pinned postâcomplete with a guide to my tagging system.
First off, who am I?
I am the sole moderator of dinosquad-central, obviously. You may call me Dino Mod, and I use any pronouns, including neopronouns that do not begin with x or z.
My Favorite characters are Caruso and Buzz. I don't actually know that much about dinosaurs in general; I just think they're neat. I'm the event coordinator on the Dino Squad discord server. And I love getting asks! (Although sometimes it takes me a day or two to answer them)
I tag posts with #dino mod to indicate that they are either original posts from me, or things I've reblogged wherein I added something to the body of the post, rather than just the tags. So if you want to browse my thoughts on the show, that's the tag to do it.
Now that you know who I am, what's Dino Squad and where can you watch it?
Dino Squad is a 2007 cartoon about five teenagers who can turn into dinosaurs, and you can watch it for free on YouTube. The first episode is called "The Beginning", but the series is episodic, so the order you watch doesn't really matter after that. If you want to watch in in order, there's an episode list on IMDB.
In the immortal words of my original pinned post, reblogged from @/deerlyloved: "Dinosquad is so bad please watch it forever đ"
If you already know Dino Squad and want to hang out with other fans, we have a discord server! Anyone is welcome to join.
Is there anything else you should know?
Yeah, a couple of things, actually. But this is already getting long, so I'll continue under the readmore.
Firstly, I need to give credit where credit is due, and make sure y'all know that the person who made the banner I use for this blog, which is also the quintessential "there's like five of us" dinosquad fandom meme, is @scoutbot. Everyone say "thank you, scoutbot!"
My profile pic, on the other hand, is lifted from official Dino Squad promotional material, but if anyone wants to draw me a new one, I'd be willing to trade you a fic for itâDM me if interested.
Secondly, there's one type of tag I donât list in the tag guide, and that's the type I use to fawn all over everybody's Dino Squad posts. In such a small fandom, every time someone makes something new for it, they do so knowing it won't get much engagement, so I want to make sure they get at least one person who with enthusiastically give a kind, thoughtful, personalized comment on their post. Creating for a small fandom can feel thankless, but I want to mitigate that as much as possible by saying thank you thank you thank you for hanging out with us and participating in our fandom.
I'll mention it a few times in this post, but as long as you tag a post with #dino squad (as one word or two) I am basically guaranteed to see it, and I'll reblog almost anything in this fandom. So if you want more of the stuff you like, I strongly encourage you to create it! I love to see new takes and new faces in this fandom, and I will always lift you up.
I think thatâs it.
Wait, didn't I say something about a tagging guide?
Buckle in, because my tagging system is extensive and thorough.
Lets start with Basic Tags.
Every post about the show (which is 99% of what I post, since this is a Dino Squad blog) is tagged with both #dino squad (two words) and #dinosquad (one word).
In most other tags that feature the name of the show, I use the one word version, for consistency. More on that later.
Posts that are not about the show, usually either dinosaur/paleontology related posts, or occasionally technical information about this blog itself, are tagged with #not dinosquad. For cool dino fun facts and art, this is the tag to explore.
Every post on this blog contains at least one of these tags.
Next, how about some Character Tags.
Whenever a character is mentioned or very strongly implied in a post, I tag it with their full name, similar to AO3's character tags. You can follow any of these links to read every post featuring that character.
#Victor VelociâThat's his name, don't wear it out!
#Joanne MoynihanâAKA Ms. Moynihan, beloved mentor of the squad
#Rolf MaxwellâAKA Max, the squad's fearless leader
#Fiona FlagstaffâThe Girlâ˘
#Rodger BlairâSmartest kid in school
#Neil BuzzmatiâAKA Buzz, the one who likes "punk stuff"
#Erwin CarusoâYeah, his first name is Erwin
#Peter (Veloci's Assistant)âRemember him? Appears once in the first episode and never again?
#Rump (dinosquad)âThe squad's pet dino-dog
#Liam (dinosquad)âFan favorite autistic character
#Terri FlagstaffâFiona's sister
#Winifred the SnakeâBuzz's pet python
Obviously, some of these characters are going to have more posts in their tag than others, simply because people like and post about some characters more than others. If you want more post about your favorite character, Make Them. As long as you tag your posts with the fandom, I can basically guarantee I'll find them and reblog them to this blog.
That's not all, though, because there are also a lot of original fandom characters, and I tag for those, too.
If you want to see all of them, I use the tag #dinosquad oc on every post that features one, but I also tag them with the OC's name, in case you're curious about a specific one.
#Vega VelociâTeenage transfem lesbian clone of Victor Veloci, created by @prometheus-adam
#Violette VelociâAnother female teenage clone of Vitor Veloci (though which one of them is trans is left to interpretation), created by @ufolvr
#Valentino VelociâMale teenage clone of Victor Veloci, created by @al-gay-tor
#Iggy and ChloeâA pair of OCs by @musekicker who will be given individual tags when they have full names
#Gyrian MaelstromâBuzz's dad who works for RaptorDyne and is also a dinosaur, created by @ufolvr
#Moss 'Rat King'âRaptorDyne employee self-insert, created by @hotratking5592
#Thysbe GinkoâRaptorDyne employee favored by Victor Veloci, created by @boysiinberry
#Miss Disma and MoucheâHead of PR at Raptordyne and her assistant, created by @boysiinberry
#KalyeenâRaptordyne grunt, created by @boysiinberry
A lot of people seem to think that Veloci would be into cloningâcan't say I would argue with them lol. On the discord server, people have shared way more OCs than this, but I can only reblog the ones that get posted about on tumblr. I anticipate this list will grow.
Ship Tags are a subset of character tags
Like with characters, if a ship is explicitly mentioned or strongly implied in a post, I will tag it with a ship tag in the format of characterA x characterB where A is the character whose surname comes first alphabetically. Posts about ships are also tagged with #Shipping.
#Rodger x MaxâThose who like this ship often cite S1E2 "Growth Potential" as one reason
#Buzz x CarusoâThose who like this ship have cited S1E12 "Not so Great Outdoors" as one reason
#Moynihan x VelociâA ship that is much more popular on the discord server than on tumblr
#Peter x VelociâRemember Peter? Appears once in the first episode and then never again?
#Fiona x VegaâShip between Fiona and @prometheus-adam's OC, Vega Veloci
#Caruso x MaxâThose who like this ship have cited S2E10 "Scents and Scents Ability" as one reason
#Ginko x VelociâShip between Victor Veloci and @boysiinberry's OC, Thysbe Ginko
Most of the ship tags are pretty lightly populated, some only have one post. Suffice it to say, shippers are a minority in this fandom, but I still dutifully tag ships when they appear. If you want to see more of your fave ships, or have an idea for a ship not on this list, Create for it! I will happily reblog any ship for this fandom.
Now, let me tell you about my Categorical Tags
If you're looking for a specific type of post, for example, if you just want to scroll through all the headcanon posts, or all the fanart, that's what the categorical tags are for. These tags are usually accompanied by the word 'dinosquad' somewhere in there, and many of them are listed as featured tags on this blog as well.
#AskâSomeone sent me an ask to which I decided to post a public reply
#Character AnalysisâThese posts will always be tagged with the character being analyzed as well
#CrossoverâThese posts will always be tagged with both the other fandom in the crossover, and the primary character(s) from the other fandom that feature in the crossover
#Dinosquad AUâPosts about the Dino Squad characters or concepts in an alternate universe, whether it's completely different, or just minor canon divergence
#Dinosquad FanartâAlso tagged with #art and #fanart, in addition to the fandom specific tag
#Dinosquad FicâFan writing, typically, but not always, in the form of a link to Archive of Our Own
#Dinosquad HeadcanonsâPosts containing either a single headcanon, or a list of headcanons regarding the characters or world of the show
#Dinosquad MetaâPosts about the technical aspects of the show, like animation or writing, as opposed to the plot/characters/etc.
#Dinosquad TheoryâTheories about the show, both in regard to the plot/characters, and the production (but usually the former)
#Episode ReviewâPosts in which a specific episode of the show is being analyzed, summarized, or otherwise reviewed
#Incorrect DinosquadâAlso tagged with #incorrect quotes, in addition to the fandom specific tag
#PollâPosts that have at least one poll in them
#PromptâIdea(s) meant to inspire the creativity of the members of this fandom. General prompts are distinct from the Dinosquad Monthly Prompts in that anyone can post them at any time. (more on the monthly prompts later)
#RereblogâPosts that have been on this blog before but I'm reblogging again, either because something new has been added to them, or because there was nothing new for me to post, so I picked some old favorites to pad my queue. This tag stands in the place of all the things I originally tagged the post with, so when I use it I'll only add tags that apply to the new reblog
Most of these tags are self explanatory. Many have sub-categorical tags, which I've included either in the descriptions above, or in the Content Tags section.
After that come the Content Tags
Content tags tell you what's in the post, aside from characters, obviously.
#From the Dinosquad Discord ServerâPosts containing content which was screen-shot or copy/pasted from the fandom discord server
#Dinosquad Monthly PromptâThe monthly prompts are part of an ongoing, year-round event hosted by the fandom discord server. Posts in this tag include not only the monthly prompts themselves, but also art and fic created to fill the monthly prompt. Members of the fandom server can DM me on discord to suggest prompts.
#Dinosquad Secret Santa 2022âWe did a fandom holiday gift exchange in 2022 and posts with this tags are the gifts created for it
#Digital Art and #Traditional ArtâTwo self-explanatory sub-categorical tags for Dino Squad fanart
#Feathered Dino FormsâPosts wherein the characters' dino forms are described as or drawn having feathers
#Overheard at RaptorDyneâPosts about working at RaptorDyne, mostly incorrect quotes.
#Max Gets No RespectâPosts about the squad disrespecting Max, also mostly incorrect quotes
#Morally Gray Ms. MoynihanâPosts talking about the possibility of Ms. Moynihan keeping the kids dinosaurs on purpose, or similar theories/headcanons/AUs/etc.
#Trans BuzzâPosts regarding the popular headcanon that Buzz is a trans man
#LGBT+âPosts containing queer content, such as sexuality/gender identity headcanons for characters
#TransâSame as above, but for specifically trans-related content
#ScreencapsâPosts containing screen captures from the show
#MemesâPosts containing memes either related to the show or otherwise
There are probably a few more character-specific ones that I have forgotten, but I'll keep updating this tag guide continually as needed.
There is no #Gay Caruso tag because... well... Caruso. That would be every post about him lol. Maybe one day I'll go through his character tag and add it to every post where it's relevant but it'll have to wait until I'm really, really bored.
Lastly, I have Warning Tags
I don't really have warning tags for things that were in the show, like I'm not gonna have a warning tag for sharp teeth or carnivorous eating habits, because... well... it's a show about dinosaurs. If you had a problem with that kind of thing, you probably wouldn't be here. I also won't use the CW tags for passing mentionsâmy thinking is that if something's not really in the post I don't really need to tag for it.
#CursingâI know most people don't have a problem with explicit language, but this blog is technically for a kids' show, so there it is
#Blood CWâFor posts containing depictions or descriptions of blood
#Injury CWâFor posts containing depictions or descriptions of one or more injuries
#Death CWâFor posts containing depictions or descriptions of death
#Body HorrorâFor posts containing depictions or descriptions of body horror (excluding dinosaur tranformations)
#Long PostâFor posts that are more than two screen-lengths on mobile. I will not tag something as a long post if it has a readmore, unless the part before the readmore is longer than 2 screen-lengths.
If there is anything not on this list you would like me to have a warning tag for, or if there's a post you think should have one of these warnings, but I forgot to add it, just shoot me a DM, or an ask, and 99% of the time, I will gladly add a warning tag.
Well done making it to the end! GOOooo GO DINO!

"Fighting is one of the most unpredictable, chaotic sports on the planet yet you have coaches that think the tire drill is effective because they saw it in a Rocky movie. A lot of gyms outside of the ones producing good to great competitors treat fighting like it is a closed sport when in reality, the best knowledge I have gained for my training and coaching has come from basketball drilling & conditioning methods and not methods Iâve received from coaches who focus exclusively on combat sports because many combat sports have almost no extensive theory or pedagogy and treats fighting like a multiple-choice exam. The way many participants view combat sports is entirely wrong because they completely undervalue how much environmental factors play a large role in oneâs fighting ability regardless of how they look on the pads or in the gym. Even at the highest level of fighting, youâll have athletes get paid to fight under a certain ruleset such as in a cage, and never train once inside a cage throughout their whole fight camp leaving them at a tremendous disadvantage that will get exposed even if there is early success prepping in that manner."
Extra relevant for historical fighting where we should be extra careful about context or environmental factors, and with the diversity of rulesets and training areas we could learn a lot by both participating in it all whenever we can, and from picking up ideas from other sports that happen in a variety of competition spaces, or dances from various different social contexts etc.

This is a play list I created on my thoughts about gender code ant the future that could be. This reflects some writing I have done on other blogs ( will post links to them later( want to give you time to digest this play list first)). The future is bright but there are som dangerous paths we all could go down so nothing is certain. But the future wouldnât be the future if things were certain so thatâs exciting.
There is a lot of work to do so stay tuned.
đ
1. Lusine -zero to sixty 5:44:
This is at the top of the playlist becouse A) you can hear the loops so much code/programming went into this B) the YouTube algorithm suggested it and I want to encourage suggestions like this C) the fem energy is strong and I can relate to the visual code/themes
2. Computer man2:39:
Itâs hard to talk about code/programming w/o talking about computers. A little miffed they chose man for the song but person just doesnât rhyme with can so I see why thy did. As the extension of the human intellect I think that is debatable.
One of the reasons I think man was a bad choice to engender the computer is that I think by definition a computer is more then gender neutral. In doing so this song brings sex into a sphere were it doesnât belong. Gender neutral is still a valid form of sexual identity and also has nothing to do with sex. Where as a computer has no gender identity and only expresses an identity based on the users interactions. So in a sense this song is saying only men can or do use the computer . Essentially the computer is a mirror. We donât engender our reflections as all he when the user of the mirror isnât. I know it seems like a silly point but it is important because the computer could be anything even something outside the spectrum of gender. And this fact is mind bending to me at least. Why put a box on a box that may not even be a box. Itâs stupid and ruins the potential of what could be. Just sayingâŚ.
3. Sorting algorithms visualized 3:15:
Here are some that work in real time I find them helpful in organizing.
I created a happiness ranking of some of the sorting algorithm visualizations you can find it here:
4. Crumb - Locket 5:19:
So we are very visual creatures and the visuals on this video have a certain dream logic to them I had to include it. I use a lot of dream daydreaming and imagination in all my code/ programming so it is noteworthy.
5. Rone-bye bye 4:01:
Magic! Fem energy ( fem form at least in some small part not sure if rone is)! Elelmental energy! Loops! And the binary of black and white! All present in this vid.
It also deals with space and time both very important in code.
6. JERONIKO-TRAMPOLINE GRANDSLAM 5:22:
I mean this just sounds like a sorting algorithm to me.
7. Rone- Origami 4:16:
Origami is a technique i his sometimes to keep track of things. Also the story the visuals tell is compelling.
8. Bogo sort 3:05:
This isnât music but I find it to be musical. As someone that is interested in organization I think you will like the sorting algorithms visualized. They teach these sorting algos to all computer science students (not sure most pay attention).
Bogo sort is interesting I suggest if you want to know more you go here ââ>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogosort
Now the vid doesnât show anything being sorted but that just has to do with the fact Bogo sort could either be instant or more likely take the run time of the universe but hey it sounds cool.
9. Max Cooper- Order from Chaos 4:19:
The visuals are spectacular I believe the visual artist is fem but unsure . That aside in Codie it is often the case of going from chaos to order but once you know enough you find you often go the other way.
10. More sorting algorithms that sound cool 1:25
11. SUCHI-All in time 5:59:
Timing is key in code and this vid hits the mark another YouTube suggestion.
12. Max Cooper- Repetition 5:57:
If at first you donât succeed and all. A lot of repetition in code.
13. Half alive- still feel 4:16:
There is a lot of nihilism and nihilistic tendencies in a lot of code rn. Also these guys remind me of the Silicon Valley tv show guys( very male centered show and culture( needs to change)). I can relate to the lyrics I have often felt lost and floating in space with regards to my code. Will discuss more w/ you when I see you.
14. Bozo sort 3:04:
Much like Bogo read here for more info â-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogosort
15. Bonobo-Circus 3:23:
Loops! Also bonobos are close relatives what happened to us could or may still happen to them.
16. Max Cooper-Waves 4:05:
A lot of cooper on here maybe because max is tapped into something maybe I dunno.
Waves rhythms loops signals communication code.
17. 13 sorts -Classic 2:41:
Debatable if these 13 are classic I disagree I also think the should have done 16 to make it base 2 will explain later.
18. Lusine- Just A Cloud 6:08:
Clouds are one of my favorite things to contemplate their code is beautiful and simple very relaxing.
19. YOU MAN- âBIRDCAGEâ 5:38:
This just sums up the internet half decently.
20. The blow - Get Up 3:12:
Sums up how I feel about the web. Also like to make fun of Elon using this song.
21. Battles- The Yabba 6:56:
Strong masculine energy on this one also hardcore loops. Never sure how I feel about this one but it deserves a place on this list.
22. PUP-DVP 2:29:
Who doesnât love punk garage grunge video game rock. This kind of music powered my code for a long while.
23. Jamiroquai- Virtual Insanity 3:55:
Yeah this sums it up nicely.
24. Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks 4:38:
This is on here because of recursion. Recursion is a deep topic many programming languages have been designed around it and they all offer a way to use it. Will discuss more irl.
25. Valerie June-âAstral Planeâ 3:39:
Often go to the astral plane for guidance and inspiration. The talk of other modalities of consciousness are interesting topics when it comes to generating code and programming (at least it is to me)
26. Pixies- Where Is My Mind 3:37:
That is a good question when it comes to code/programming.
27. Lusine-Not Alone 5:08:
The story in this vid is amazing and the music is very inspiring.
28. 16 Sorts- Disparity Loop 5:13:
Beautiful visualization of sorts plus 16 nice!
29. Kimbra-replay! 3:58:
A peek into what my brain looks like sometimes. Strong fem energy but definitely from the prospective of masculine abuse. Also Kimbra <3.
30. Level Up-Zodgilla 1:37:
I believe the band and song are backwards on this vid but unsure. Loops and remix like crazy love it!
31. The Comet Is Coming - Summon The Fire 3:57:
This has the feeling of jazz on that electric funk. I use jazz in code/ programming a lot.
32. Orange Juice-Rip It Up 3:46:
I mean the British between Alan Turing and Church (the person not the institution) none of what we have now would be possible. I mean someone may have had similar thoughts on computation as Church and Turing but Turing approach specifically is so brilliant and simple it is easy to explain to non programmers and helps with code immensely (Churchâs approach is less accessible but still invaluable). Also in the vid the look like they are dancing around in a [Tardis / Spectral / Time Machine] which is fun as hell. I use Time Machines when I code/ program all the heckin time so I had to include it as the last song in this list. Also Orange Juice is delicious.

Learn HTML code with examples, basic HTML elements & Create HTML pages like a pro | HTML for beginners
In this blog post weâll show you, step-by-step, teaching you all the basic elements and tags of HTML. we will be learning very basic and essential tags of HTML which are most commonly used while writing any HTML program, You can watch the YouTube video down below, which will give you further assistance with initial setup and brief understanding on HTML. before getting started if you want to know what is HTML and have its introduction Click Here to start writing some code we need a code base, so create a folder anywhere you want and name it as HTML, here we will be placing all our HTML code, to start writing code we need to create a HTML file, you can name the file the way you want but with .html extension, in order to view this HTML file on your browser, go to the file location and open the file with chrome, and you will be able to run and see successfully your HTML web pages, and you can use visual studio code editor or any of your favourite IDE for writing the code. And all you need to learn HTML is just to know simple English terms, as all tag syntax is related to the term called in English, even while you are developing a HTML page you don't have to remember or memorise all these syntaxes, the best way to start typing in your code is with your imagination and visualisation. you can find all the example codes on our git repository Click Here How does a simple html program looks like? The content of the document...... here is the simple HTML file which we had created, as you can see this is a very very simple HTML program, in first two lines of code we had defined the document or file as HTML document and wrapped the tag inside that tag. the body tag is where you place all your contents of your HTML document, to be displayed on the browser This is the common code while writing any HTML program, and you can see the same code in the next examples as well but with some extra specific tags Basic Elements or Tags in HTML 1. head 2. div 3. headings 4. Paragraphs 5. a href links 6. Images 7. Lists 8. Table 1. HTML tag the head tag is usually placed above the body tag, the head tag holds different metadata information like page title and other info of the page, just execute the above program and open the page on our Chrome browser, and on the Chrome tab it shows the title of this page which we had wrote inside the tag wrapped in tag. â ââMy Page Title â â ââThe content of the document...... â 2. HTML tag is the most common tag, tag is usually used to split our code into blocks or sections which are also called as containers as you can see I had created two div containers and each container with different code inside it and if you see how it appears on our browser, both will look identical because these containers are only helpful when you start styling your page. and handle the diffrent blocks and sections accordingly. â ââ âââ
Div Container 1 Content here
ââ ââ âââ
Div Container 2 Content here
ââ â 3. HTML Heading tags in HTML we have six levels of headings from
to , and each of the heading tag in HTML has its own significance, it is just not like it will be shown in the smaller size than the above one. we mainly use
tag for your block titles, when we use
tag as our block title, the search engine will better optimise your blog and help you rank higher than other websites having the same title but in a different heading tag like
, in short the lower the number the higher the priority. â ââ
Content Type Heading 1
ââ
Content Type Heading 2
ââContent Type Heading 3 ââContent Type Heading 4 ââContent Type Heading 5 ââContent Type Heading 6 â 4. HTML Paragraph tag If you are writing a Blog, you might also need to place some paragraphs for this we use tag, you can create multiple tags and write your content inside it, considering every tag you used as a new paragraph. â ââContent Type Paragraph. â 5. HTML Links tag Let's say if you want to navigate the user from page 1 to page 2, how will you do that? for this we use tag, where "a" is the tag element we use and "href" is only the attribute of "a" tag. inside href we place the page link of the page 2 where we want to navigate and in the content of the "a" tag, we write the text to be displayed like "click here" and when you click on it, it simply navigates you to that page. â ââ âââContent Type a href Link. ââ 6. HTML Images tag for putting in some images on your HTML page, we use tag. it has mainly two attributes 1. src - source of the file 2. alt - Alternate text you can also use the other attributes like height and width, the Alternate text helps the search engines to better understand, what is the image about and when a image is not fully loaded it displays the alt text in place of the image. â ââ 7. HTML Lists - tags In HTML we have only two types of list 1. UnOrdered List 2. Ordered List the difference between these two lists is, unordered List uses dots as index and ordered List uses index in some sequential order like 1, 2, 3. and you can also change the sequences to use alphabets like a, b, c or Roman numbers like I, II, III â ââ
Unordered List
ââ âââ- Unordered List Item 1 - Unordered List Item 2 - Unordered List Item 3 - Ordered List Item 1 - Ordered List Item 2 - Ordered List Item 3 ââ â 8. HTML Tables tag for displaying some tables on the HTML page, we use tag and inside it will have , and tags, where each tag is referred as a new row in the table, we usually have some headings in the first row of the table, right? so for that in the first row we use tag which means table heading, the browser considers every tag you used as a new column for the table and from the second row we use tag, which essentially means table definition. â ââ Table Heading 1 ââ Table Heading 2 ââ Table Heading 3 â â â Heading 1 Related Item 1 â Heading 2 Related Item 1 â Heading 3 Related Item 1 â â ââ Heading 1 Related Item 2 ââ Heading 2 Related Item 2 ââ Heading 3 Related Item 2 â now time to proceed to our last example In this tutorial here I just clubbed all the codes and examples into a single HTML file and it is displayed like below, and on the browser lined one after another, this should give you understanding that how can you place all your visual elements on the page like below shown My Page Title
Table

My intention in posting this is not to announce a return to tumblr, but rather, to provide a âwhere is she nowâ-esque update and most likely disappear back into the void.
Donât worry â in the time since I last posted, I have been completely fine, and in all honesty, probably better after doing some of the work to unplug more compared to before. I am posting this to share my own experiences in detoxing from social media, in the hopes that someone finds even just one of these ideas useful. You donât have to quit tumblr in order to benefit from this advice â I just personally donât have much of a reason myself to try making tumblr work for me.
The main reason I joined tumblr in the first place was to try and find a sense of community, especially considering that I felt a void in terms of connecting with other feminists after quitting Discord due to privacy concerns with it as a platform. However, I havenât been able to actually connect with people here on tumblr, and I think this is just a matter of the fact that I find it much harder to start and participate in conversations here. Additionally, I found that I was quickly falling back into old habits of obsessively scrolling through recent posts without really getting much from what I saw, just on my dashboard instead of channels in a Discord server. If there is enough demand for it, I might consider starting similar communities using Matrix or XMPP-based messaging services to allow for the sense of connection I had without the same privacy concerns as Discord â I would want to see if itâs possible to strike the right balance of allowing for a sense of community without falling back into the pit of eternal scrolling. On the one hand, I crave this sense of connection that I had on Discord, but on the other, I desparately want to make some sort of real difference that feels much harder to achieve over the internet. (If youâre interested in reading more about organizing over the internet and reclaiming our control, I recommend checking out this post of mine).
That being said, tumblr still has its things that kept me around for some time. I enjoyed having an outlet to write longer posts. In school, I was one of those students who always did well with essays, but didnât actually enjoy writing them â having a tumblr blog, and even some other experiences since I left, have slowly shown me that I can enjoy writing argumentative and informative works when I actually get to choose the topic and Iâm not stressed out from dealing with my poor time management skills.
The real thing that kept me around, though, was seeing well-crafted arguments from other users. Every so often within my dashboard, I would come across a post that articulated a specific issue very clearly or shed light on a novel perspective. On the one hand, it felt like these posts were Expanding my Intellectual Horizons and allowing me to Witness the Forefront of a Force of Change, but on the other hand, these hits of satisfaction would fuel my addiction and motivate me to slog through countless other posts that would be forgotten within a few minutes.
A short side note â if youâre like me and want to have access to YouTube for video tutorials that are genuinely useful, but youâre concerned about Googleâs privacy practices and the addictive UI patterns, Iâll talk about my solution. I use Invidious (usually the yewtu.be instance, but there are many URLs that run Invidious) to watch YouTube videos without having as much of my information being set to Google, and a few browser extensions to cut back on distractions. I use Invidioucious to custom-tailor the UI and have these changes actually be consistently applied between browser sessions (specifically, I set the âother argumentsâ field to â&related_videos=false&comments=[]â to turn off related videos and comments), I use Redirector to automatically change any Invidious âpopularâ or âtrendingâ feed page to redirect to a blank search page with no videos shown (I redirect both â*/feed/popular*â and â*/feed/trending*â to â$1/search$2â â note that in all of these, the quotation marks are not included in what you actually enter), and I use LeechBlock to automatically give me a 30-second delay in accessing the pages for YouTube channels on Invidious (blocking â*/channel/*â), since browsing through all of a channelâs videos is a way that I personally tend to fall down binge spirals. If you still want to use official YouTube instead of Invidious, then DF YouTube is a browser extension worth checking out for changing the UI.
During this stretch of time when I wasnât on tumblr, I got back into reading. In the case of political theory, this allowed me to find a concentrated stream of the High Quality Takes that I only found in fragments here, often by going to the source in finding books that I saw frequently quoted. I was an avid reader as a child, but stopped reading as much in 2018 or so. Iâve read 41 books to completion in 2022 (with a few more Iâll probably finish by the end of the year). Most of that reading took place in May or later, and the majority was non-fiction â this was by far the most non-fiction reading Iâve done overall. I feel like this shift has had a distinctly positive impact on my mental well-being, by allowing me to become more informed without external distractions and by training myself to rebuild my attention span and think. I mention this so I can provide some advice for others looking to pursue this as well â the rest of this post is reading-related advice.
Firstly, I recommend knowing where you can get free books. You can definitely get far with resources like your local library or Project Gutenberg, which provides free e-book versions of books that are old enough that their copyright has lapsed. Also, as devastated as I was when Z-Library was shut down, I am not going to publicly endorse downloading books that were not properly authorized with regards to copyright, even though I personally think that copyright law is, to put it politely, a load of bullshit. (Whatever you do, though, donât go to Library Genesis, unless you want to get eaten by the copyright monster or whateverâŚ)
Iâve been developing a to-be-read list for a long time, probably a few years now. However, I found that even after I acquired a large hoard of free e-books through completely legitimate means and definitely not piracy, actually convincing myself to read them was a different issue. This brings me to my next piece of advice â know what format works for you and use that to your advantage. For a while, I tried getting back into reading just using my computer, only to find that it was an absolute slog. Reading dense text on a bright computer screen and hunched over my desk in an uncomfortable position doesnât really work for me. I ended up purchasing a used Nook Simple Touch from eBay that cost me less than $20 USD, including tax and shipping, and its e-ink display and portability ended up being a fantastic match for my physical comfort.
However, I have explored other options for reading e-books without needing to purchase a new device, and I still had some good findings, even with the e-reader being my favorite. I tried using speed-reading software, which displays one word at a time at the same position, allowing you to read very quickly without moving your eyes. The fact that it is much faster, and in my case, a dark background with light text as opposed to the other way around, mitigated some of the discomfort in my eyes. However, I was unable to find software that actually saved my place in the book, and skipping to the place I wanted to read was a major pain because there was no function to skip a chapter at a time, so I had to hold down the arrow key to get to the specific place I left off at. There is probably software that does have this function, I just didnât find it â even if there isnât, this is still a good option for something you know you can read through in one sitting, such as shorter books and articles.
I have also tried reading in conjunction with text-to-speech software, and the combination of audio and visual input turned out to work well for me. This actually also allowed me to read at a much faster pace than one might expect â I usually gradually ramp up the speed in the text-to-speech software to 5 or 6 times the default speed, and I know that itâs working best when I feel myself fall into a rhythm with the way my eyes move through the text. Not only does this allow me to read faster while using text-to-speech, but Iâve found that it actually serves as âtraining wheelsâ to help me read faster without the text-to-speech. On a similar note, I recommend doing research on speed-reading techniques. There are many techniques that can be used together to do this, but the one that I think has helped me the most is learning to read with my peripheral vision and keeping my eyes towards the center of the page, mainly moving my eyes vertically and much less horizontally. To help with this, I recommend making sure that the overall column width of your e-book isnât too wide, if youâre using a digital format.

june laporta, shoe0nhead, the youtuber who makes that âhell worldâ series where she goes over strange headlines seems like sheâs always getting into some sort of trouble over on the bird website. she got big on the âsjw cringeâ era of youtube, but sheâs moved leftwards over the years. and sheâs presently in this weird ideological space where sheâll support politicians like sanders or fetterman, but it coexists with some other stuff like her using terms like âegalitarianâ over âfeministâ or epstein posting, which means you need to be much more aggressive in moderating your space because right wingers find the more conspiratorial stuff appealing, which she doesnât strike me as discerning enough to do. even though the epstein stuff was not a fever dream, the right has a habit of being the most loud about it because they use it as this kind of factual cudgel to justify all kinds of other speculations, because a figure like epstein fits the bill for other, less-grounded things they spend a lot of time narrativizing about. i honestly donât have strong feelings about her other than i donât think sheâs responsible or, frankly, smart enough to have the audience size she does.
the current PR hurricane sheâs riding out is this tweet from sunday criticizing an admittedly very Off balenciaga shoot with kids and... bondage teddy bears? is this really necessary? ... and one of other the promotional images has a printout of an overview of the us v williams supreme court decision, which had been going around on the ~conspiracy zoomer~ side of tiktok over the weekend. sheâs getting criticism for posting this so soon after the colorado springs shooting, which is fair. i also do think how discussing anything related to child sexual abuse during a political climate of accusations like this being thrown around frivolously by the right wing to get as much trans-exterminatory legislation on the books as possible is a legitimately complicated ethical problem. what do you do begin with something thatâs both frequently brought up manipulatively, but a true matter of public concern when it does happen?
my thing about the photos: i donât buy anything suggesting a balenciaga cabal, but i also do think whoever was contracted to take those photos put it there on purpose, either for the purposes of outrage marketing, or because theyâre a sex pest and these types have an extremely creepy habit of putting like... sex pest easter eggs into their creative output. dan scheinder specifically has a habit of being so shameless about this stuff. i have this pet theory is that people who have the specific kind of personality defect where they find consent violations arousing in principle do their deranged sex pest easter egg thing as an extension of this but. yknow. itâs 3 in the morning and this post is already way too long.
but running with the dan schneider example, imagine an alternate world where this somehow never got press coverage, and you, an investigative reporter in 2022, collected bombshell testimonials from the child actors who used to work under him, and were about to break this story for the first time. how the hell would you do this responsibly? the story has nothing to do with anything remotely lgbt-related, but people who have built their media careers off fear-mongering about child abuse as a supporting argument for political outcomes you donât endorse at all. you can denounce it, but i donât know if thereâs a way to discuss this without it being warped into conspiratorial fodder. this has been a problem for a long time, but itâs so bad now. do you just not run the story? what about the moral implications of that?
i think people dumb down how messy this is because laporta is an easy figure to dislike, and seems incapable of understanding that her conduct can and often does produce results she doesnât want, but this would still be a doozy even if she deleted her profile tomorrow.

mechanisms basics & lore
welcome to my updated mechanisms intro post! this post will cover both the topics discussed in my mechanisms basics post, which is geared towards people who donât know what the mechanisms are, and my deep lore post, which aimed to be a comprehensive compilation of all the important character and world lore. this post should serve the above group, but itâs geared towards people who have listened but feel thereâs a lot of lore that seems to be common knowledge theyâre missing. weâll start out with a basic introduction, and then go into crew lore and a semi-comprehensive guide on where to go for further information.
basics
the mechanisms were a steampunk concept band, known for their queer representation and their tragic stories. they are no longer together, their last performance being january 2020, but several of their members are still creating related spinoff content.
they follow the trope many steampunk bands do, which is albums that tell a story; think similar to listening to a musical soundtrack, but geared to a visual-less experience. what distinguishes them is 1) narration tracks between each song, making the plot very easy to follow, and 2) being meant to be watched live, meaning thereâs layers of meta that are more easily understood by watching recorded gigs rather than studio recordings of albums. specifically, thereâs a focus on the narrators, known as the mechanisms or the crew of the aurora, who are immortal space pirates telling the stories and occasionally inserting themselves into them. though they are tragic figures themselves, their banter serves the purpose of bringing a lightheartedness and dark humor to the stories. if thereâs an aspect of the lore youâre confused on, itâs probably related to the narrators!
to watch the mechanisms live, you can find recordings on youtube, dropbox, google drive, soundcloud, or vimeo, which are all compiled in this post (including transcripts!). if visuals arenât your thing, iâve linked the studio recordings later on in this post when they come up, and here are the mechanismsâ official spotify, bandcamp, and youtube, as well as an unofficial comprehensive lyric videos channel.Â
the albums
regarding the albums specifically, there are 4 main ones (once upon a time (in space), ulysses dies at dawn, high noon over camelot, and the bifrost incident), 2 that are compilations of miscellaneous songs (tales to be told 1 & 2), 1 single (frankenstein), and 1 album thatâs a high-quality recording of their last live show, including an alternative performance of the bifrost incident, 2 songs only performed at live shows, and 'the deathsongâ, which details how they all eventually die (death to the mechanisms).
as you might have been able to tell from the titles, theyâre all based off of various myths, folklore, literature, and/or fairy tales, using different genres on top of a sci-fi setting to add a fresh twist to them! for example, high noon over camelot is a western based on arthurian mythos, set on a space station. (the albums are known for all ending in tragedy, so be careful if that isnât your cup of tea!) if your goal is to get into the mechanisms, iâd suggest sitting down and listening to them all in full; links will be provided below, or alternatively you can watch once upon a time (in space) live here, ulysses dies at dawn live here, or the bifrost incident live here. (there is no full live recording with visuals of high noon over camelot, sadly, but there are partial and audio only recordings.)
once upon a time (in space) - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
ulysses dies at dawn - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
high noon over camelot - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
the bifrost incident - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
tales to be told, volume 1 -Â spotify/bandcamp/youtube
tales to be told, volume 2 - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
frankenstein - spotify/bandcamp/youtube
death to the mechanisms - edited video with the stream corruption fixed + subtitles / stream / spotify / bandcamp / youtube / transcript pt. 1 / transcript pt. 2
reading the fiction is integral to understanding both the albums and the mechanisms themselves. the fiction is a collection of short stories set in the mechanisms universe posted on their website here and compiled by me here, with an extra high noon over camelot story here. (there are also audio versions for âmirror mirrorâ and âa rebel yellâ included on both the website and the compilation).
the crew of the aurora
as for the crew, at their peak there were nine members played by people, as well as the ex-member dr carmilla, who has extensive solo lore and is still active (which weâll touch on in a few paragraphs). there is also their ship, the aurora, who is sentient and has her own lore. in fact, every member of the crew has their own backstory, set in a different genre or historical period; for example, nastya rasputina's is historical, jonny dâvilleâs is a western and marius von raumâs is a mecha anime. however, theyâre all still different flavors of steampunk! below, iâll list each member, their performer, and the main sources of lore about them. for the majority of them, they have their own song in tales to be told, but there are a few outliers. everyone also has their own bio up on the website, which can all be found here.Â
the aurora (n/a, ship)- on aurora (meta)
jonny dâville (jonny sims)- one eyed jacks (song), jonny before he was mechanized (meta)
nastya rasputina (anonymous)- cyberian demons (song)
ivy alexandria (morgan wilkinson)- archive footage (fiction), crew bio
ashes oâreilly (frank voss)- lucky sevens (song)
drumbot brian (ben below)- lost in the cosmos (song), crew bio
the toy soldier (jessica law)- the story of the toy soldier (fiction)
gunpowder tim (tim ledsam)- gunpowder tim vs the moon kaiser (song/minialbum)
marius von raum (kofi young)- the death of byron von raum summary (blog post)
raphaella la cognizi (r l hughes)- crew bio
if youâve noticed the crew bio doesnât say much about raphaella, thatâs because we know little to nothing about her backstory. the only thing we have to go on is a quote from the tv tropes page, which looking at the edit history, was likely written by one of the mechanisms. the quote is âScience officer who may or may not have cheated her way onto the ship after becoming a little too interested.â and the page is here.
the majority of fandom content is about the crew, working off of what we get from the tales to be told songs, the live gigs, and the fiction.
dr carmilla
speaking of characters with obscure lore, letâs talk about dr carmilla! rather than linger, iâll just link my carmilla basics post, which is a comprehensive summary of who she is in and out of universe. to summarize, sheâs a character based on the novella âcarmillaâ by sheridan le fanu, commonly regarded as the first vampire novel, but her lore has diverged heavily from that original starting point since then. she is the oldest out of all of the crew, and made the majority of the other crew members immortal. she, as well as aurora, is from a planet called terra, which was destroyed partially as a result of her actions. her character is defined by her immortality and how she deals with it, her experiences on terra, her relationship with the mechanisms, and her dysfunctional relationship with her ex-girlfriend loreli, the last of which is the most covered by her songs. out of universe, she is played by maki yamazaki. all her lore lines up with what happened out of universe, and ties to the fact the mechanisms were originally dr carmilla and the mechanisms. she has two solo albums and two singles, which iâll link below.
ageha (prototype edition) (album)- bandcamp | youtube
exhumed and {un}plugged (album)- bandcamp | youtube
the city {nex:type mix} (single, in-character cover)- bandcamp | youtube
eleven (single)- bandcamp | youtube
the majority of her lore is still to be officially revealed, and will be in the trilogy of albums maki yamazaki is working on.
further reading
if youâd like to delve further into the lore, there are a few sources i use! there are official, in-character, blogs, as well as things that are harder to dredge up; i wonât link them here, but some sources include @/thedreadvampy (the bandâs artist, as well as morgan wilkinsonâs sister and kofi youngâs partner; donât bother her for lore or anything, but sheâs previously made posts sharing previously unknown information), old websites and deleted content found on the wayback machine, the tv tropes pages, and most notably the lore doc.
the âmaki forbidden lore docâ is an archive of all the lore maki yamazaki has shared on the mechscord, the official mechanisms discord which sheâs on, and her own personal server, where sheâs running an arg (alternate reality game) as a way of relaying more lore about the dr carmilla universe. for an idea of the scale, the doc is currently 91 pages and 28346 words, and recontextualizes much of what is known about dr carmilla and makiâs canon of the mechanisms universe. it is confidential to anyone not in her discord or the mechscord, as sheâs said that this lore isnât thought out nearly as much as the albums and is subject to change, so sheâd rather it not be out in the open. however, information on how to join the mechscord can be found here. there is also a non-canonical fan project based on the arg in progress, but information on it is also confidential for now.
with regards to the above phrase âmakiâs canonâ itâs worth noting that all of the individual band members have their own idea of what counts as canon and what doesnât, and as you foray deeper into lore that division becomes more and more apparent.
with that, here are the mechanismsâ blogs. they are all both run in-character by the main nine band members and inactive unless i note otherwise.
twitter
tumblr
facebook
website/wordpress (run ic by tereshkovaâs ghost, the blogbot, for the most part)
carmilla twitter (active, run ic by dr carmilla)
conclusion
now that weâre coming to the end of this, iâd like to thank whoever got this far, and to say a few words. my interest in the mechanisms has been slowly fading, and iâve been writing less and less meta and lapsing in keeping up with new lore myself. honestly, iâm pretty worn out by how much iâve done on this blog and in this fandom, and the commitments iâve assigned myself. i do have plans for future meta, but itâs unlikely theyâll come to fruition. so, i thought iâd do a new version of my two oldest posts on this blog, and hopefully enable other people to look into the lore and theorize themselves with the new information.
to find more information, remember thereâs a mechanisms wiki, and that my askbox is always open.
thanks for reading!

The Rise and Fall of Bon Appetit
Sometimes life comes at you fast. Â Sometimes, that means stories in the food industry break in such rapid succession that you have no time to blink in between. Â Sometimes, it means someone found out about something racist you did a few years ago. Â What happens when itâs both? Â Ask the fine folks at Bon Appetit.
In recent years, Bon Appetit made a name for itself, rising from the ashes of dying print media, through its Youtube channel featuring a diverse cast of personalities. Â But over the course of this past week, many of the publicationâs executives have been found to foster a toxic workplace culture, rife with racism, sexism and homophobia. Â
Before I get too deep (because this is going to be a long one), I feel the need to point out that while this storyâs breaking happened to coincide with Black Lives Matter protests across the country and gained traction from peopleâs outrage towards inequality, the events that have unfolded should not be blamed on âcancel culture,â âpolitical correctness run amokâ or any other reactionary dismissal of critical thinking. Â Adam Rapoport didnât lose his job because Black Lives Matter, Black Lives Matter came to be because of the damage that many in positions of power like Rapoport have done in both mainstream media and society as a whole.
[Also, yes, there are going to be a lot of links to Instagram posts that have been screenshotted and uploaded to Twitter.  Clearly the real takeaway from this debacle is that I need to get an Instagram account. Also also, thanks to Tumblrâs new rules about offsite links, youâll have to go to my main site for the full receipts.]
Preamble
Shortly after the killing of George Floyd, Adam Rapoport, Editor-in-Chief at Bon Appetit, wrote an editorial highlighting some of the coverage theyâve given to black chefs. Â Many criticized this as being superficial and performative, with others saying that BA has, on numerous occasions, shut down articles relating to black culture for not being âtrendyâ enough or otherwise was discriminatory towards black employees. (Also, the repeated use of âuprisingsâ instead of âprotestsâ seems a little suspicious.)
An article from Eater criticized the role BA played in the appropriating and whitewashing of many culturesâ ingredients and cuisines (gochujang, Aleppo pepper, and sumac seem to be some of BAâs favorite ingredients) that had become prevalent in food media in recent years.
While itâs a fairly minor offense in comparison, it may also be worth bringing up the time Rapoport accidentally called Priya Krishna âSohla,â the name of his other Indian employee.
Monday, June 8th
Food writer Tammie Teclemariam posted a screencap of an Instagram post made by Rapoportâs wife, which depicted the two of them donning Puerto Rican stereotypes as Halloween costumes, brownface and all. Â Â
Many were quick to declare their outrage and demand that Rapoport either resign or be fired. Â Meanwhile, Sohla El-Waylly, one of the leading stars of the Youtube channel, was one of the first BA employees to speak up, and disclosed that this kind of behavior was just the tip of the iceberg. Â She said that BIPOC workers have been paid disproportionately for their work, including not being paid a per-video commission that the white stars of the Youtube channel receive.Â
Molly Baz, one of the aforementioned white stars, announced that she would no longer make videos for BA until all of El-Wayllyâs demands were met. Â One by one, their white coworkers chimed in in agreement. Â
Former staff photographer Alex Lau also wrote an extensive tweet thread about his experiences at BA, including how he had futilely tried to fix the system from within.
By the end of Monday, Adam Rapoport had resigned from his position as Editor-in-Chief.
Tuesday, June 9th Â
Since Rapoportâs official resignation did little to fix many of the systemic problems in place at BA, many began to turn their attention to other senior members of the staff.
Some came for Andrew Knowlton, the Restaurant Editor, for behaviors such as gaslighting an employee for trying to bring up racist practices in the offices.
Others called out Matthew Duckor, a VP at Conde Nast and BAâs former âHead of Videoâ (Did a 3 year old come up with that job title?), for a series of old racist and homophobic tweets. Â He tried to apologize by saying that he was young and didnât know any better at the time, but many were quick to point out that he was, at the youngest, 20, aka for all intents and purposes An Adult when he wrote those tweets.Â
Tammie Teclemariam returned to ask current and former BA employees to DM her information about Duckor that they didnât want to go public with themselves, ranging from his hand in the aforementioned pay disparity to making inappropriate comments towards women.
Teclemariam also did even more social media muckraking and found that Drinks Editor Alex Delany had once decorated a cake to look like a Confederate flag, while others found things like a Vine where he says the f-slur and some questionable comments about women on this Tumblr. Â He later deleted his Tumblr and Twitter, and issued a cookie-cutter apology on his Instagram.
She also vague-tweeted that Brad Leone, one of the most beloved stars of the Youtube channel, is âpossibly not a great guy,â but later added, âdonât fret.â At that point, some began to accuse her of just trying to stir the pot.
Ultimately, Matt Hunziker, director and camera operator for Leoneâs show, reported that the higher ups were ignoring the situation regarding the pay disparity, and that they were not âlearning and growing.â
Wednesday, June 10th
By this point, journalists were able to do more thorough investigations and put together exposĂŠs that were more than a blurb about an accusation followed by a nut graph.
Business Insider published an article where they interviewed 14 current and former BIPOC employees of Bon Appetit.  In addition to information already discussed above, it also described events such as an incident where several BIPOC staffers were told they werenât allowed the test kitchen. (Carla Lalli Music, the Food Director at the time, would later defend her stance in the affair on Twitter.)  Ryan Walker-Hartshorn, a black woman who served as Rapoportâs personal assistant, recalled that she would often spend her day doing menial tasks like polishing her bossâs golf clubs or trying to teach his wife how to use Google Calendar.  In another incident, Knolton called Rick Martinez a âone trick ponyâ for only developing Mexican recipes, which is what he was being forced to do so BA could tout âdiversityâ bonus points.  Martinez would also say that the magazine under Rapoportâs tenure âwent from old and irrelevant and white-washed content to young and trendy white-washed content." (Martinez would also upload a more graphic description of the treatment he received  to his Instagram that same day.) Later that day, Business Insider would also report that Duckor had left the company.
Vice would liken Rapoport to Michael Scott from The Office, but noted that that kind of bumbling, endearingly insensitive bad boss archetype isnât as charming in the real world where real employees are being affected. Â Parallels were also drawn between the Youtube channel and The Office itself, stating that the âquirky workplaceâ facade put on in the videos helped hide the more sinister practices that lurked beneath the surface, and that the notion that they were âone big familyâ often pressured BIPOC into doing more than their fair share for the greater good.
Jezebel showed email transcripts where Rapoport argued the semantics of having his costume be called âbrownfaceâ when he wasnât wearing makeup, and had to be explained to, like a child, that the term refers to the racist caricature and not the literal act of putting brown makeup on oneâs face. Â What a douche.
Bon Appetit published an official apology on their site, a whole two days after the controversy began. Â Many believed that their empty promises of âlearning from their mistakesâ were a day late and a dollar short.
Meanwhile, on Twitter, former BA writer Alyse Whitney said that senior editor Andy Baraghani had, on several occasions, used his influence to undermine her efforts. Whether this had to do with racism, sexism, or just Andy being petty is up for debate, but still constitutes as unprofessional behavior to say the least.
Thursday, June 11th
As interest in the story seemed to wane for many in the industry, Claire Saffitz, arguably the face of the Youtube channel, released another statement on her Instagram.  She said that her relative silence was due to taking time to find the right words, and that the same-old promises to âlearn and growâ that most had been giving felt empty and performative. Unlike many of her white coworkers, she directly apologized for being complicit in the toxic environment  and for not using her status to try to leverage even pay for her BIPOC coworkers. Â
Another BA Youtube personality, Amiel Stanek, also released a statement in response to BAâs official press release, where he demanded Conde Nast to stop avoiding action by setting vague timelines for changes or making excuses for not giving BIPOC workers raises like âthe money just isnât there.â
Associate editor Christina Chaey also opened up about her experiences with being pushed into more and more videos to âdiversifyâ them- all without compensation. Â
Friday, June 12th
The biggest scandal of the day was that, as Teclemariam predicted, Brad Leone is possibly not a great guy. Â A leaked screenshot of an Instagram DM showed him making callous, almost Trump-y comments regarding El-Wayllyâs demand for better pay. Â He also allegedly said that if Delany were to be fired (as of that day he had been sent on leave), he would quit.
Saturday, June 13th
The New York Times published an article suggesting that the issues prevalent in BAâs management may go all the way to the top of Conde Nast. Â Highlights include Chief Executive Roger Lynch chastising the whistleblowers within the company for raising their concerns in such a public manner and an account of an incident where he gave his black assistant a guidebook on how to speak âproperâ English.
The Sporkful released a special episode of their podcast containing interviews with several current and former BA BIPOC workers. Â Nikita Richardson divulged that after she was laid off, a story she had already done all the leg work for was picked up and credited to Amanda Shapiro, a white staff writer who is now acting Editor-in-Chief in lieu of Rapoport. Â Sohla El-Waylly confirmed that the self-congratulatory editorial Rapoport wrote in the wake of George Floydâs death was the real beginning of the end, and that the racist photo was just the final straw. Â She also described a company-wide Zoom meeting held after the photo began to be spread around where Rapoport issued a half-hearted apology, and began talking about how he would âfix the brandâ before El-Waylly demanded he resigned. Â Furthermore, she revealed that after her Instagram posts began circulating rapidly, Duckor had offered her a new contract with increased pay, but she is refusing to sign it until all BIPOC have received similar compensation. Â She also said that she had a hand in the wishy-washy statement that BA had published on Wednesday, and said that it originally had taken much firmer stances on the issues but their PR office made them tone it down. Â Also, she commented that Leone, for the most part, just seemed like she âgenuinely think[s] [that he] just found out racism is real.â Â Ultimately, she was glad that the story was getting as much coverage as it was, since it made her feel that her voice was finally being heard.
Sunday, June 14th
Baraghani released a statement on Instagram apologizing for his behavior, saying that trying to achieve his personal goals in BAâs toxic, competitive environment made him lose sight of solidarity with his fellow BIPOC. Â
While that may seem like the end of the story for now, itâs important to note that, even with the resignation of two executives, nothing has truly been done to fix the systemic problems at hand.

Sims 4 Demon Mods
Modding The Sims 4 can make the game more vibrant and varied, especially when it comes to your Simsâ looks. Here are some of the best mods that will put more skin tones, eye colors, freckles.
The Sims 3 Demonic Powers MOD - YouTub. Sims 4 Demon Mod; This Mod was created under patch v 1.63, & Sims 3 Into the future. But you only need base game to run this mod! This Mod works with patch 1.63 & Higher without issues; This Mod might work with patches under 1.63 but with issues. Not Recommended.
I installed a brand new mod today which lets my female Sims become a Succubus. If you donât know what a Succubus is, itâs a demon which drains the health of other men through romantic interactions (Iâm not really an expert in medieval legends so you can refer to THIS page if youâre willing to learn more).
To install the best Sims 4 mods in your game, all you initially need to do is download the mod file. Then open Windows Explorer on PC, or Finder on Mac, and locate Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods. Feb 21, 2020 For more Sims 4 mods to choose from, check out our master list of the best 200+ Sims 4 mods of 2019 or the best Sims 4 career mods the internet has to offer. Continue Reading.
Feeling a bit Halloweeny at the moment so I decided to make a post about some of the coolest masks I found for Sims 4. All of the downloads are free. I have also included some history of certain masks if it piques your interest. Hope you enjoy the post!
*Please Click on the Picture to Download
Cyborg Mask
Letâs start off with this one. This mask is compatible with all genders and all ages. It has 5 colors with 2 variants. The item when installed could be found in the eyeshadow and tattoo category. One look of this mask reminded me of the Terminator for some reason and let me say that the piercings looks absolutely great! The modâs created by a featured creator named RemusSirion.
Akuma Mask
Akuma might be a funny word to some of you all, but it means âDemonâ in Japanese. And the spikes on this mask in absolute reveals some demon like features on it. Created by Pralinesims, the mask has 60 different colors (but cannot be subjected to re-colourations) which is a quite extensive amount. Both your male and female sims can wear the demon looking mask. PS: the mask definitely gives Uta vibes from Tokyo Ghoul.
Joker Mask
This season of October is probably the outbreak of Joker inspired stuff. Unfortunately this mask does not relate to the original DC inspired joker but it definitely gives off the vibes. Inspired by Persona 5 character named Ren Amamiya who has also the codename âjokerâ is a rebellious teen boy who was falsely accused of a crime. Well they do say that certain masks have interesting backstories.
Ninja Mask
This mask was created by S-Club and has 4 colors to boot. Not your typical Naruto-Anbu mask but I do dig the cross and everything. It looks pretty smexy to be honest.
Venetian Mask
Venice is probably most famous for their masks and has a lot of background history for their origins. The mask in this mod is typically one famously worn in the Venice carnivals which represented hierarchy in the olden days. These masks are usually adorned with feathers or golden leaves. The Italian government literally had to impose laws since the masks were used so frequently to hide a personâs identity which was out of the festival season. Well I do not really blame them because the masks are super exquisite! Thank you altea127 for showcasing this wonderful creation.
Bunny Headband
Um.. Canât really classify it as a mask (guilty) but I really liked this one. Leah Lillith has created this sims 4 cc which has 4 recolors. The headband is available for both males and females. If you are an Ariana Grande fan, then this is probably the best accessory you have stumbled upon if not this is the best thing for a bunny girl/boy cosplay you have been planning for ages! Again Iâm so sorry that I uh put this along with the other masks. I have a thing for rabbit ears uwu.
Fox Mask
Probably one of the most searched masks for Sims 4. The fox mask is initially inspired from the Japanese culture. Known as âKitsuneâ masks ( Kitsune means fox in Japanese). I have seen the Anbu of Naruto wearing the same masks probably with different recolors as well. Just some fun facts: the mask represents the cunning attributes of the fox where they can either become good or bad depending on the situation. Hanecco, made this mask with three colors and it can be worn by both males and females.
Phoenix Mask
This is probably most the aesthetic creation I have ever seen in the category of masks for sims 4. In the Chinese culture the phoenix resembles bravery and power. It is initially part of the Yin and Yang where Yin is the dragon and represents the male/husband and Yang is the phoenix signifying the female or the wife. The dragon and the phoenix were usually symbolized by the emperor and the empress in China. So you have learnt some damn history bro! Use this mask for your fancy dress costume parties or some really cool storytelling for East Asian sims.
Gas Mask
Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear wore this type of a mask to keep away âothers thoughtsâ from invading his. Born in a Russian village amidst the cold war his father hated him because when he was born his mum died. So he went full psycho and killed his dad and the whole village. Iâm not sure what type of outerspace material of this mask can shield his psychic powers but it was so iconic that his gas mask was found as an accessory in Metal Gear Online (even tho he was not available rip) This mask for sims 4 created by Toskasims has 1 swatch and is HQ compatible.
KDA Mask
Last but not least I wanted something inspired from Tokyo Ghoul because the TG mask made for sims 4 is kinda dead (link is dead until further notice) but yeah this is as close I can find to it. Some of you wonât agree but the teeth gives me TG vibes. OranosTR made this mask with six colors and it is HQ compatible and has emission maps. SO use it to your Sims halloween parties or whatever xD
Maybe youâre a fantasy nerd (like me).
Maybe you just love creating fae, fantastical, occult, and other otherworldly Sims in CAS.
Whatever the case may be, youâre looking for the perfect pair of horns or antlers for TS4. Because goodness knows we donât have nearly enough exciting accessories for supernatural fashion.
Fangs, fins, and zombie skins are all fine and dandy⌠but where are our options for the more infernally-inclined?
Right here on this list.
1. Dragon Age: Inquisition â Qunari Horns by Valhallan
Weâre starting this list strong with a pack of nine(!) horns from creator Valhallan.
These horns are based off of a fictional race called the Qunari from the game Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Mad kudos to the creator for successfully converting these horns into The Sims 4. They look great both in CAS and in-game.
If youâre planning to plop a tiefling, a demon, or some other horned creature right in the quiet town of Windenburg, this pack is fantastic.
Nine styles with 27 color swatches each (save for variation #1, which only has 26) means this pack is pretty freaking versatile.
Color Options: 27 custom colors | 26 custom colors (for var. 1)
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder
2. Illidari: World of Warcraft Demon Hunter Horns by Valhallan
Another masterpiece from maker Valhallan. These Demon Hunter horns are all kinds of intimidating â but in a good way.
And you get six unique styles that perfectly suit different personalities. Slender and approachable, curved and daunting, large and in charge ⌠whatever you want to convey, you best believe these horns can do it.
Each style has a different texture, too. Ribbed, scaled, smooth â the attention to detail for this particular CC is really fantastic.
Download all horns in one merged .package file, or pick and choose your favorites by getting the separate .zip file.
Want to plop these on your Sims kid, too?
Grab the horn conversion for children pack.
BONUS: Boys N Berry Sims also has a great recolor of these horns; 76 fun new swatches for you to play with.
Color Options: 25 custom colors (original) | 76 custom colors (Boys N Berry Sims recolor)
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder | separate package for Child
3. CherryVanillaSims Recolor of Flapjackâs Ribbed Horns
For the casual demons, devils, and horned races that donât want to flaunt their extra accessories, Flapjackâs original mesh offers four simple (yet stylish) horn designs:
Ribbed
Small (if you really want understated demon horns)
Thicc, and
Thicc (forehead)
Each has its own charm for sure. Unfortunately, they donât have many color options.
Enter CherryVanillaSimsâ recolor. While itâs only for the âribbedâ horns style, this recolor does introduce 66 new colors for you to play around with.
Honestly? I can dig the brightly-colored orange horns.
Color Options: 4 custom colors (original) | 66 custom colors (CherryVanillaSims recolor)
Mesh Needed: Flapjack-Sims Horns for Sims 4
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder
4. Goop Horns by Blahberry Pancake
Continuing the âsmall and subtle hornsâ trend are Blahberry Pancakeâs Goop Horns.
These cute nubs perch right on the top of your Simâs head, and they look absolutely adorable.
I think theyâre called goop because the multi-colored lava on the tips pretty much resembles that word.
And Iâll say that the bright, neon colors and the rounded edges kinda remind me of pastries.
Point is theyâre cute. Get âem.
The DL link leads to a download page for Sim Teens to Elders, plus a separate download link for Children.
Color Options: 14 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Toddler â Elder
5. Capricorn Horn Accessory by Screaming Mustard
Who says you canât dress up your horns? Certainly not this CC creator.
These Capricorn horns come in one style, and that style is stylish and dainty, dammit.
The textures work well with the three earrings (horn ⌠rings?) dangling on the ends too. There are only four color options, but those four colors are pretty darn unique.
Note: you can find these Capricorn horns in Necklaces, by the way. Not Hats.
Color Options: 4 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Female | Teen â Elder
6. Crown of Horns by Nolan Sims
Okay hear me out. Mechanically speaking, I know this is a headpiece accessory with horns â and not actual horns/antlers CC.
But it honestly just looks so gorgeous, I have to include it!
And the placement of the horns on the crown looks like they could be growing out of your Simâs actual head. Thatâs the goal, right?
So if you spin the right narrative, you can pass as a horned Sim wearing a flower headband.
The horns (or âtwig horns,â as the creator calls them) donât change color. But you can definitely alter the color of the flowers to better suit your style.
Color Options: 15 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female
7. Trappingâs Antlers by Deetron Sims
Hereâs a quick but cute break from horns: antlers.
Specifically, these antlers in this CC.
Whether youâre designing a human-deer hybrid, or you want to spin the narrative of a druid who canât shapeshift all the way⌠Deetron Simsâ Trappingâs Antlers fit both situations, and more.
Theyâre simple and straightforward deer-like antlers that sit on the top of your little Simmy head.
And theyâre available for Kids too. So you can have a full forest family if you want.
Color Options: 3 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Kid â Adult
8. Rein Headband by Blahberry Pancake
Where the previous mod is better suited for realistic deer hybrids, this Rein Headband CC by Blahberry Pancake is better for Holiday Costume Parties.
Itâs designed as a headband with deer ears and antlers. And it shows.
The headband is very clear on most hairstyles (especially with âflatterâ hair), so you canât exactly pass it off as a true anthropomorphized (Sims-morphizedâŚ?) deer.
But itâs cute, itâs unique, and it would make the perfect accessory for ugly Winterfest sweater photoshoots.
Color Options: 12 custom colors; 7 two-toned swatches, 1 tri-toned swatch, 4 solid swatches
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female
9. Fantasia Headdress by Suzue
Just like the Capricorn Horns by Screaming Mustard, this Fantasia Headdress is basically horns with bling.
And just like the Capricorn horns, these look delicate and dainty. Theyâre long, slender, and they swoop up just so at the tip.
Rather than earrings, theyâre adorned glass beads. Both horns feature a single strand wrapped twice around the base.
There are 10 custom colors for this package, and the color of the beads depends on the color of the horns.
Color Options: 10 custom colors; 1 two-toned swatch
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder
10. Unicorn Horn by Bellassims
We have demons and tieflings, deer-shifters and deer-hybrids ⌠of course I had to include one of the most majestic horned creatures ever.
This Unicorn Horn by Bellassims is a personal fave.
It sticks right in the middle and itâs decked out with a gem, plus some delicate chains.
These chains hang down until they disappear into your Simsâ hair, making it look all the more regal and expensive af.
Now this CC comes with 36 color options. The horn itself stays white, but the chains can be either gold or silver, and the gem can be a number of colors depending which swatch you select.
I personally love the gold-chain-red-ruby combo.
I also highly recommend you try combining this Unicorn horn with the Fantasia Headdress. The result is absolutely stunning on lady Sims.
Color Options: 36 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Female | Teen â Elder
11. Little Demon Horns by Rotteneyed & Cerberus-Sims
If the Goop horns were too colorful for your Simâs color palette, and the Flapjackâs Ribbed horns were a little too big for their backstory, well these Little Demon Horns might be exactly what youâre looking for.
Theyâre one of the smallest horns on this list. Literal nubs.
And they sit right on the forehead (instead of on top of the head).
Whatâs pretty cool is there are four variations here, and you can combine up to two variations for a maximum of four horns.
Perfect for the little demon that wants to stand out from the crowd. Maybe.
There are 40 custom colors in all, with 20 of those options being two-toned.
But if you do decide to give your Sim four horns, you canât mix the colors. The top horns will stay the same color as the bottom horns, and vice-versa.
Still a pretty versatile set regardless. And worth a try!
Sims 4 Demon Tail Mod
Color Options: 40 custom colors; 20 two-toned swatches
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female
12. Horns Pack by Azentase
This horn CC pack is kinda like Valhallanâs Qunari horns, only with different shapes and a smoother uniform texture.
There are four variations: Panic, Bambous, Kleptomanie, and Maniac.
Theyâre all varying levels of âcurvedâ and âswept back,â which honestly makes them look fantastic with hairstyles that follow the same flow.
I personally think they look especially stunning paired with Alpha CC hair (instead of Maxis Match styles).
Each version only has three color swatches, but theyâre all neutral. So they pair well with most any hair color.
You can also install each version separately if you want.
Color Options: 3 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female
13. Bloodtotem: WoW Cenarius & Highmountain Tauren Horn by Valhallan
If anything, this is the crowning glory of this compilation.
The goddess of the fauna. The guardian of the forest.
The mother of all dramatic horned headpieces.
Valhallanâs Bloodtotem horns are incredibly designed and incredibly intimidating.
They spread out from the sides of your Simâs head like sharp, majestic wings. Words cannot describe how regal, imposing, and straight-up grandiose these pieces are.
Theyâre like earthen antlers. Only less deer and more Goddess of the Forest.
There are two variations of these Bloodtotem horns: those with colored borders and those with colored tips.
Both have their charm. And 26 color options each.
Color Options: 26 custom colors
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder
14. Lifebinder: Alexstrasza Horns by Valhallan
I think itâs a pretty safe assumption that Valhallan just rocks at creating horns for The Sims 4.
After all, sheâs responsible for about a third of the items on this list!
This particular pack isnât a horns-specific package. Itâs actually a full character (or at least, the characterâs clothing) conversion â specifically Alexstrasza from Heroes of the Storm.
If youâre familiar with her, then you know sheâs got a pretty impressive set of horns. One would expect no less from a powerful woman who can turn into a dragon at will, right?
Right.
This entire CC pack contains her iconic horns, regal tiara, and eye-catching red cloak.
The entire package is a .zip file too. So you can actually just install the horns and tiara without the cloak. If your Sim doesnât feel like cosplaying, I mean.
Color Options: 1 default color
Mesh Needed: No
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder
15. Horns Pack â Valhallansim Mesh Edit by Gerbithats
This mesh edit of Valhallanâs World of Warcraft Demon Hunter horns gives us players some one-of-a-kind options for our damned, demonic, fae, and/or fantastical Sims.
The theme of these horns seems to be âasymmetricalâ.
And surprisingly, itâs a theme I can get behind.
There are four variations in total: Bune, Petrus, Lucius, and Damien.
Bune and Damien have two further categories: Left and Right.
Depending on which you pick, either the right or the left hornâs tip is broken off. Hence, asymmetrical.
I think either option is perfect for giving your Sim a little more character.
Sims 4 Demon Mods Ps4
Damian features longer curved horns growing from the top of the forehead.
And the Bune horns are smaller, pointier, and sit a little higher.
Lots to love about all of them!
Color Options: 25 custom colors
Mesh Needed: Lildari: World of Warcraft Demon Hunter Horns by Valhallan
Available For: Male & Female | Teen â Elder

Was it really worth it?
Dear Tumblr Diary
Was it really worth it? I have to say that yes! I know everyone and their mothers are talking about the slap that was seen around the world. Being that Iâm more of a will smith fan. Than I am of Jada pinker and or Chris Rock. I have to say this to me, was seen a long time ago. Not Will Smith going up on stage SLAPPING the living shit out of Chris Rock. But! Will Smith standing up for himself as a person. I say person rather than man. Because in my eyeâs your gender, sex (Identity) in that aspect has nothing to do with standing your ground and demanding your respect. Over the years I have seen how many people, celebrities or those who frequent them. Try and emasculate him, provoke him or taunt in one way or another. Iâm not a person whoâs big on pop culture or whats in the happening now. As an outlier, when things are big. Big enough to catch my attention. I give it!
Over the years, This red table from his wife, daughter and mother in law has come up. And other aspects of there lives have come into the public eye. Which in a patriarchal society, has made will smith seem like too much of a passive guy. "Seem" being the operative word here! Iâve always liked will smith because of his down to earth humor and relatability. I too, am his completion. And goofy like him too. I guess like most fans I have attached aspects of my identity to him and his success. I think thats why most people go really hard for there Idol. Or a celebrity that makes them feel.
I too know the ways of suffering in silence. I know how it feels to bite your tongue. And keep a pretty smilie face on for optics. It has to be hard for him in ways that we could and or only imagine. I do not have children and nor am I married to a woman whoâs free to spill the beans about our personal matters. Now! Small disclaimer! (I donât know shit about there personal lives) He for all intensive purposes can be just as guilty as her with having entanglements. BUt! The reason for this post is to share why I agree wit this, "SLAPPING" of the rock. The Chris rock, you see from other sources and even from both of their statements on social media they have Identified each other as friends. But! Would a friend constantly poke fun of you. Especially with a room full of people he could have chosen to poke fun at.
Almost every time I have seen Will smith in the media before this incident, It was deeply heart felt. When listing to him, either podcasters talk about him or when on YouTube videos of his being shown. It seemed to me there was always more behind that mans eyes. I believe, he felt that he could not choose wisely. I may be wrong. Fuck I am wrong because with everyone getting a divorce. He could HAVE left her! Or her leave him!? But they choose to stay together.
Was the joke a really bad joke no! But! When sources on TV and other social media outlets confirm that Jada has a medical condition. It makes it all the worse. Will smith on hot97 and other platforms is always in someoneâs mouth. And who knows what was said between the couple about her condition. NOt!!!!! to mention as a gay man! My hair is everything to me. I like how itâs an extension of myself expression and Identity. So I can totally see this being that for any women. Especially a celebrity. I share in her pain in knowing that something thats out of her control is happening to her body. How she has to change her thoughts. Not to mention, her self perception is going to be a real eye opener for her.
She has brought up time before that she & Tupac have been in love. She to me has not gotten over that. Has not moved on or even properly grieved his death. I again can relate to wanting to love someone and it being snatched from you. Taken with out notice. Only to deal with the remains. Itâs nothing you can do but! Deal!
Maybe these scenarios, are what weâre running in the thoughts of Will Smith. How heâs always shrugging things off. Letting things go. Being passive about the amount of disrespect that thrown him. Thereâs always the straw that breaks the camelâs back. And talking about backs. The way the internet has show support! I have to say is funny, But! Fucked up. I myself had to take a MOMENT and realize I too play in to his manâs mental help.
This persons feelings are being disregarded! When people are constantly checking him about how he should behave and not how itâs ok to be. To just be. Heâs a mentor, father, probably someoneâs brother or cousin. Heâs a husband. All titles, many people on this planet can relate to. Was rock wrong? Iâm still indifferent about it because the statement says He did not know. And being that they are celebrities. He has his brand to run. And they have their own to run as well. As the women around always say â MInd the business that pays youâ and well, In Chris rocks case, It didnât pay that well on stage. But!!!!! I have to say that he did handle that very well. Even when Will smith kept it going from his seat! He kept his composure.
Iâm from the hood. So! For me one smack ainât gonna kill no body. It night get you knocked out. But, It ainât gonna kill no one. I

hi, i love how detailed you are w ur research on topics you have interest in and care about, do you have any advice for someone who wants to get into something (im sorry this is so vague)? like tips for finding good reliable sources and primary/secondary sources etc? as im sure u can tell im super beginner w any of this :(
hi!!! thank you anon for your very sweet ask!! :-) everyone starts somewhere so donât worry about it. i will caveat this entire post with the fact that i am a quantity person - i typically read first and evaluate for credibility afterward, which is something i can do because i have a pretty good foundation already? so i hope what i have to say is helpful !!
it definitely is vague and i would love to give you more specific answers if you have more specific questions, but i will do my best, here is a numbered list :-)Â
#1 wikipediaÂ
wikipedia actually a very good resource that you shouldnât be afraid to take advantage of !Â
itâs true that anyone can edit it, but there is a strong community there of people who are passionate about the content they contribute and very good quality control for commonly viewed pages. a lot of the time if there are problems with an article that will be called out in the header. always read those and keep them in mind when viewing an article.
but the real nice thing about wikipedia is the references, bibliography, and related sections. claims on wikipedia should be (but unfortunately are not always) sourced. if you see something that interests you and it is cited, check that book or article out!
if you have access to a library and/or academic databases, you can usually find the stuff people source from. (if you donât, *handshake meme* i am suffering too)
personally i think it is great for beginners in that well written articles will usually be helpful to figure out what your interests are, what search terms to use in other places, where you can go to learn more etc. just remember to take everything with a grain of salt! (which applies to everywhere not just wikipedia)
#2 online work collections and archives
this is probably more relevant if youâre interested in history given the nature of copyright, but places like archive.org and google books have a wide range of digitized works, especially ones in the public domain and with open copyright. archive.org especially is a great place to look for the more obscure citations you find on wikipedia.Â
specialized databases if you have access to them are also an invaluable resource. jstor.org currently allows 100 free article reads per month and is doing that indefinitely. if youâre interested in the humanities and social sciences thatâs a great place to start in terms of academic databases. (they also have an introduction to academic research open online course, so if you want more formal exposure to academic research methods that might be worth checking out!)
#3 bibliographies and works cited
on the same lines as the wikipedia thing, it is very worthwhile to look at any bibliographies or reading lists included in a source you already have. that can also help with determining credibility.
as an example, pretty much all of the downton abbey companion books have bibliographies, some of which are extensive. iâve found a lot of cool books that way. if youâre doing research associated with a popular fandom, you can also search google or elsewhere if there are reading lists and recommendations associated with that - sometimes itâs fiction but sometimes it isnât!Â
e.g. i am sure that googling something like âhow historically accurate is downton abbeyâ would give you both lots of opinions and lots of sources supporting those opinions, albeit fewer of the latter
#4 donât underestimate periodicals
if you have access to them (if youâre in school/university please reach out to a librarian about this!) for the time period youâre looking at they are excellent. a well-run newspaper archive will let you search by dates, keywords, etc. contemporary sources can help place modern analysis into context for you and give you a broader picture of what was going on.
# modern & social media
prefacing this with the necessary and obvious âbe cautiousâ. but stuff like podcasts, documentaries, youtube videos etc can all be very informative. those associated with academic bodies are generally reliable. i will also blanket recommend anything put out by pbs in the usa (though i am sure that they probably have things that would make me retract that).Â
youtube is significantly less credible than wikipedia can be, but it does share the common factor of people who are really knowledgeable being enthusiastic about sharing it. unlike wikipedia, though, youtube by no means encourages objectivity.Â
and on that note, generally i will say itâs important to consider if thereâs any motive other than informing the audience when youâre evaluating a source. sometimes itâs really obvious and sometimes it isnât, so i think thatâs always worth thinking about :-)
lol this is really long and rambly sorry!Â
one more thing which is that if youâre interested in downton abbey related or adjacent stuff, i do have reading lists on my carrd that might be helpful, although i think they may also be information overload in some ways too. and feel free to ask more questions if you have any!! i realize this post is kind of nonspecific
thank u again! :-*

with every step together - oliver cochrane x f!mc (ds)
authorâs note: i saw a reblogged post of tanuâs from july 2020 pop-up for a fluff piece between oliver and mc and it wouldnât leave my brain so here it is, i hope it lives up to your imaginations, if you envisioned this headcanon.
copyright: all characters owned by pixelberry studios. series/pairing: distant shores â oliver cochrane x f!mc (peyton bellamy) rating/warnings: 14+; fluff, indications of drinking word count: 1.9k based on/prompt: @robintoraâs post about this. also partially inspired by high school musical 3âs âcan i have this dance?â number (if you havenât watched this, go to youtube and enjoy the choreography, itâs total cheesiness). summary: peyton struggles to adjust to the english aristocratic life in the past but oliver is there to guide her through it.
with every step together
peyton ran her fingers over the delicate lace and thick pink ruffles of her gown as she waited for oliver. nervous couldnât even begin to describe how she was feeling. it had only been a few weeks since she returned to his time but already found herself having to navigate a made-up backstory about her societal status and relation to oliver.
it was unfortunate that the only plausible explanation was that she was someone he came across on his voyages and brought back to england, someone without family or land or a title to connect her to this place and time. but she trusted oliver. and if he thought the best way to help her acclimate and assimilate was to introduce her throughout the balls of the london social season as a member of his household, then she would trust him. that didnât mean she had to enjoy it.
âmiss bellamy, you lookââ
peytonâs runaway anxious thoughts were interrupted by the handsome blonde navy englishman that haunted her dreams, and her bed, but she needed to tuck those thoughts away until she was alone. any self-consciousness she felt about her appearance melted away with how oliver was looking at her, his jaw slightly open and eyes wide, a faint blush on his cheeks.
she smiled and curtsied. âthank you, commodore. did i do that right?â
oliver smiled and closed the distance between them, his hand hovering above her cheek. âyou are mesmerizing, miss bellamy. i donât think any man out there will be able to take his eyes off you.â
peyton knew propriety was holding oliver back but she desperately wished he would touch her, or at least kiss her. âthe only manâs attention i care for is you.â
he leaned in so he could murmur into her ear, âi am like a moth to your flame. no one shines brighter than you and i will always be drawn to you, my love.â
peyton felt her cheeks grow warm just as a servant coughed softly near the double-doors behind them. oliver turned and held out his arm so that peyton could place her hand in the crook of his elbow. he waited while she gathered her dress with her other hand to make sure she wouldnât trip before leading her up to the doors. in just a moment, she would be formally introduced to the most prominent aristocratic families.
âare you ready?â he asked softly.
peyton took a deep breath. âweâll see. once more unto the breach, i suppose.â
she felt oliver squeeze her hand reassuringly before the doors opened.
âintroducing commodore oliver francis cochrane and his esteemed guest, miss peyton bellamy!â
even though this wasnât technically her first ball nor her first time in an aristocratâs mansion, peyton was immediately taken aback by the grandeur all around her, from the glittering chandeliers, ornate paintings on the walls and ceilings, and of course, the immaculately dressed crowd who looked as though their silks and lace had been imported from the far corners of the earth.
âitâll be alright, take my hand and take a breath,â oliver whispered under his breath.
peyton took as subtle of a breath as she could while plastering on an innocent smile as they descended the grand staircase step-by-step. when they reached the bottom, she turned to face oliver but he was already sliding his arm out of her grasp as he was accosted by prominent-looking men and beautiful women all at once.
âi donât know why the commodore would take pity on a girl like that who isnât even english,â a snarky voice from behind peyton caught her ears.
âoh come on anna dear, heâs a navy sailor, they must get bored while out at sea. itâs not like heâs going to marry her.â
âof course not, just look at her. itâs clear heâs just being charitable. what a gentleman.â
peytonâs face burned and she had to fight every urge to turn on her heel and run away. she tried to school her features and turn gracefully around the room until she found a servant off to the side with a tray of drinks. she quickly knocked back two goblets of wine from behind a large pillar, trying to ignore the judgmental look the servant gave her as he took her empty goblets away.
the quartet in the corner began playing a soft waltz to indicate that the dancing portion of the evening would start. peyton watched, eyes wide as she realized how out of her element she was. women moved eagerly to the center of the ballroom, some with established partners, others trying to not-so-subtly coerce one of the eligible men standing around the edges to dance with them.
peyton looked around desperately for oliver and saw that he was deep in conversation with another naval officer. she made her way over to his side just as a small group of women surrounded the men on both sides, leaving peyton in the outside perimeter.
âcommodore, may i have a word?â peyton tried to get oliverâs attention while maintaining the grace expected of a lady in her volume and tone of voice.
âoh you poor girl, donât you know how these work? the commodore, along with all the other eligible men here are expected to spend time with all the eligible ladies of the social season, to find suitable matches and the like. and well, you donât quite qualify as eligible, wouldnât you agree? and now it looks as though the commodore is going to be otherwise taken this evening.â
peyton recognized the voice of the woman who was called âannaâ earlier as she tilted her head to where oliver was being half-dragged by a blonde woman in a blue frilly gown.
âmy apologies, i didnât realize. please excuse me.â peyton didnât even recognize her voice as she bowed her head briefly and backed away until she felt she could safely turn around and make her exit. she didnât hear oliver call out after her as she scurried away as fast as she could to the furthest corner of the ballroom.
she quietly snuck out and stopped to catch her breath. she felt as though she was about to either hyperventilate or break down into tears, neither of which was appropriate for the setting. in moments like this peyton wondered if she shouldâve stayed with edwardâs crew; at least out at sea, no pretenses were needed.
âmiss peyton, i apologize for what happened. it was not my intention to leave your side and i had no interest in dancing with anyone else,â oliver said, appearing unexpectedly.
âitâs alright, oliver. this is your world after all and there are expectations everyone has of you. you should be seen dancing with those ladies instead of talking with me,â peyton said, forcing a smile on her face. âiâll be alright.â
oliver took her hand. âcome with me.â
peyton had to walk briskly to keep up with oliverâs strong, sure gait as he navigated them through another set of doors, down a narrow, winding staircase, and through a final door. he took out a key from his coat and let her inside the cool, quiet room.
âwhy do you have a key to this wine cellar?â peyton asked as she ran her fingers over the wine and port bottles lining the shelves.
oliver smirked. âletâs say i picked up a trick or two from the poseidon crew.â
he deftly plucked a vintage red and two goblets off the shelf, uncorking the bottle and pouring out a generous goblet for the both of them. peyton giggled softly as they clinked goblets, both downing their drinks in one go so oliver could pour them a second round.
peyton began swaying to the music from the ballroom that was wafting through the air ducts and crack in the door. oliver grabbed her goblet and set it beside his on the table before extending his hand out to her.
âmiss bellamy, would you do me the honor of giving me this dance?â
âi should warn you â iâm not much of a dancer. they didnât cover much more than the basics in my acting classes,â peyton said, tentatively placing her hand in his.
âiâm not sure what would be covered in this âactingâ class of yours, however, iâve had extensive ballroom dance training for as long as i can remember. although iâm a bit out of practice since iâve been at sea for years now.â he placed his other hand at her waist as peyton rested hers on his shoulder. âtake one step. and keep your eyes locked on mine.â
she looked up and flushed under his gaze as he led her around the confined space and peyton was floored by how graceful he was. for someone out of practice, he made her feel like she was gliding across the dusty wine cellar floor.
âjust follow my lead, every turn will be safe with me, i promise,â he reassured her warmly as he began twirling them faster in time with the music.
peyton felt herself begin to relax until the only thing on her mind was oliver. in his arms, she didnât feel afraid of anything since she knew he would catch her, no matter what. as though having such thoughts tempted fate, peytonâs shoe caught on a crack in the stone floor and she felt her body start to fall backward.
before she could react otherwise, oliver moved his other hand to her hip and twirled her through the air, letting her weight rest against him as she regained her footing. peyton couldnât tell if she was feeling incrementally warm from oliverâs proximity or the drinks she had before, considering she hadnât had anything to eat since lunch.
âoliver, iââ
âmiss peyton, i will always catch you,â oliver interrupted, his blue eyes boring into hers. âi never thought iâd find someone like you in a million years and iâll be damned if i ever let you go.â
peyton surged forward to capture his lips in a kiss. she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, standing on her toes and pressing herself against him so oliver would have to wrap both hands around her back to keep them from falling. his fingers ran up and down the laces of her dress and she bit his lower lip gently, delighted at the soft moan she elicited from oliverâs throat.
he seemed to catch himself and stepped back from peyton, a flush rising on his cheeks. he cleared his throat and smoothed the front of his waistcoast. âah, my apologies, miss peyton, for getting carried away in such an improper manner.â
peyton stepped forward and ran her finger down the front of oliverâs shirt, stopping just as she reached the hem. âone day soon, commodore, youâre going to show me how improper i know you can be.â
she winked as oliver took an audible breath. âyou really are going to be the death of me. weâve been gone long enough, shall we?â
once again, peyton wrapped her hand around his offered arm, letting him guide her back to the ballroom. she noticed this time that he matched her pace step-for-step. and with every step together, she not only felt like she could get through the rest of the night, but also the rest of her life with this man.

BTS TV and Web Series: Where to Begin Watching
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
If youâre anything like the rest of the planet, then youâve fallen hard for BTS. And, like any ARMY who hasnât been with the band since the early days, you have a lot of content to catch up on. Itâs an awesome taskâand a potentially overwhelming one. While much of BTSâ content is, of course, music videos and performances, the Korean band has also produced a plethora of additional content in the form of web series and TV shows.
While BTS has appeared on dozens if not hundreds of TV shows both in Korea and abroad since their debut eight years ago, weâre solely focusing on the BTS-centric series rather than the ongoing shows in which BTS has appeared as featured guests. Whether youâre a new ARMY looking to learn more about the K-pop band or simply canât get âButterâ and/or âPermission to Danceâ out of your head and are curious about the seven members behind the summer hits, check out one of the following series to learn more about Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
Rookie King (2013)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: Viki
BTS debuted in 2013, and Rookie King was their first proper series. The variety show format is super popular in Korea, and many of BTSâ series use it. Rookie King is a variety show that features the members attempting different Korean TV program formats. In the show, BTS takes on different roles, including news anchors, bowlers, and basketball players. Early variety show BTS is truly a place where anything can happen. Rookie King would also give us our first proper example of BTS taking on cooking challenges, which continues to be a running (and hilarious) theme in BTSâ variety show presence today.
American Hustle Life (2014)
How many episodes: 8
This BTS reality show that sees the members traveling to L.A. for two weeks to learn from hip-hop tutors like Coolio and Warren G, can be tough to watch, as the series is nowhere near prepared to engage with K-popâs history and present of Black American cultural appropriation. But discomfort is not always a bad thing, and American Hustle Life can be a good jumping off point for non-Black BTS fans in particular to engage with the difficult topic of cultural appropriation in K-pop ourselves. I recommend watching this in conjunction with analysis from Black BTS/K-pop critics, such as Stitch of Stitchâs Media Mix, who has written extensively not only about BTS, but about cultural appropriation in the age of K-pop.
GO! BTS (2014)
How many episodes: 1
Itâs a bit of a stretch to call this one a series, as there is only one episode, but if youâre looking for more content from BTSâ early years, then Go! BTS is a good option. The 45-minute episode follows BTS on their trip to L.A. for KCON 2014. In addition to including some performance footage, the special gives us some of that variety program energy by sending the members on three missions around Laguna Beach.
BTS Gayo (2015-2017)
How many episodes: 15 Where to watch: VLive
BTS Gayo is another BTS variety show, in which the members play games that are specifically related to K-pop. For example, in the first episode, they have to guess iconic K-pop girl group songs based solely on dance clues from other members. BTS hasnât released an episode of Gayo in a while, probably because the wider umbrella of Run BTS (see the next entry on the list) covers the sorts of K-pop-centric challenges BTS Gayo centers. Basically, Run BTS swallowed BTS Gayo.
Run BTS! (2015-today)
How many episodes: 143 (and counting) Where to watch: VLive
The ultimate BTS variety show, Run BTS has been, um, running since 2015. The show features the members competing in a variety of games, from zombie escape the room challenges to foot volleyball to your classic game of mafia. If they win, they get a reward. If they lose, they get a punishment. Variety show games like this are only as effective as the degree to which the competitors take them seriously, and let me tell you: BTS is all in. These global pop stars may be millionaires, but they will throw down for a coupon like their lives depend on it. Early episodes of Run BTS include the members visiting many an amusement park, while later episodes have gotten both more contained and creative in the challenges. Rest assured, there is something here for everyoneâjust beware the spies and plot twists.
Bon Voyage (2016-today)
How many episodes: 32 episodes, across 4 seasons Where to watch: VLive (Seasons 1-3), Weverse* (Season 4)
Bon Voyage is a travel reality show that follows BTS on various trips around the world, including northern Europe in Season 1, Hawaii in Season 2, Malta in Season 3, and New Zealand in Season 4. Itâs interesting to see the members out and about in the world, having fun together and on a relative break. (This is still work, but they are not actively promoting or touring.) Over the course of Bon Voyageâs four seasons, you will see many a camper van adventure; many a games of rock, paper, scissors; and realize just how central Yoon-gi is to keeping these members fed when they are left on their own. Especially in a time when travel has been largely impossible, bopping around the world with BTS can be a nice escape.
*For Weverse content, purchase via the âmediaâ section in the Weverse Shop app, then watch via Weverse via the app or online
Burn the Stage (2018)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: YouTube Premium
Burn the Stage is an eight-part series that tells the story of BTSâ massive 300-day The Wings Tour, which took up most of 2017 for the members. Including interviews and show footage, Burn the Stage follows a pretty standard concert film format, giving insight into BTSâ first major world tour. The series would later be turned into a movie, also called Burn the Stage, which was released later in 2018.
Bring the Soul (2019)
How many episodes: 6 Where to watch: Weverse
Similar to Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul is another glimpse into what BTSâ tour life is like. This six-part series follows the seven members of BTS during the Love Yourself World Tour, through the end of the tourâs third, European leg, which concluded in October 2019. It was also released in a more condensed movie format in Bring the Soul: The Movie.
BT21 (2019-today)
How many episodes: 17 main story shorts, plus additional mini-stories Where to watch: YouTube
If youâre looking for some animated BTS content, check out the universe of BT21, a collaboration between Line Friends and BTS that you can see chronicled here. The members helped create the concepts for the BT21 characters, who are all adorable. From there, the animators began telling the story of Prince Tata, who hails from Planet BT, as he dreams about spreading love across the galaxy. Tata and guardian robot Van travel to Earth to begin the mission, where they meet Koya, RJ, Shooky, Mang, Chimmy, and Cooky, who band together with the ambition to become the most influential pop culture sensation in the galaxy. You can check out the membersâ reaction to the initial storyline of shorts here.
Break the Silence (2020)
How many episodes: 7 Where to watch: Weverse
You didnât think BTS was going to leave you hanging on the final leg of their Love Yourself World Tour, did you? The Break the Silence docu-series picks up where Bring the Soul leaves off, bringing fans on the final, Asian leg of the Love Yourself World Tour and into the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself extension of the tour, which extended the tour through October 2019. As you may have guessed, there is also a movie format version of Break the Silence.
In the Soop (2020)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: Weverse
BTS has given us many gifts during the COVID-19 pandemic, but In the Soop may be the greatest. The series follows the seven members as they take a break from their work schedules to pursue hobbies, hang out, and watch Jin kill fish. Unlike BTSâ variety series, In the Soop has a much looser structure, allowing the members to relax a bit more. Each member made a list of activities they would like to try out while in the titular âsoopâ (âforest,â in Korean), but there is no reward or punishment for completing or not. Instead, the members can choose to spend their time as they wish, whether that be building Lego or racing remote control boats. In the Soop is honestly the gift that keeps on giving, and ARMY is crossing our fingers for a second season.
