I’ll never get ppl that get mad when others point out flaws in their favorite characters like bbg that’s my favorite part???? I LOVED and ADORE flawed characters to my very core because of how real they are. If someone comes on here and starts doing a good well written character analysis on why my favorite characters (dally mainly but it goes for anyone in the gang and other things I like) are bad people or maybe even badly written I won’t get mad. In fact I’ll read it, nod along, if they aren’t completely misrepresenting the character I’ll probably even agree but it has never crossed my mind to get upset.

im gunna say it. i really like claudette! shes a badass who is damn good at her job, vanessa estelle williams is gorgeous, shes a good antagonist for may and im soo disappointed we didnt get more of her. going into her tag and seeing the majority of the posts are misogynistic insults about her is also disappointing

dispatch needed something new. may needed a new story line to allow her to grow as a character, as a young adult. im not saying claudette was a perfect person who did nothing wrong, no one in this show is (thats kind of a Thing w the show yknow)

claudette is a proud, confident women that takes no shit, her skill as a dispatcher is unparalleled (it is so satisfying to watch her handle a call), shes always ready to crack a joke and is not here to coddle or hand hold ppl (that arent callers, obvi lol). this is established in her intro scene. she is a bulldozer when coming up to may. they are a clash of personalities! thats the point!! may is comfortable in her job, now she has to learn to navigate something most of us adults w jobs have to: a coworker that u do not get along w. claudette is not the adult version of the girl that bullied may— theres more nuance than that.

claudettes arrival has may feeling intimidated (claudettes skill, confidence and ease in herself as well as the teams awe of her), attacked (the uniform joke that may mistook as personal), excluded (the history claudette shares w the team and in-jokes), and belittled (the joke about hiring foetuses). may starts off wrongfooted and its downhill from there. im not saying this is all on may and that claudette did no wrong, my point is they clash and why

i could yap on and on but its dinnertime. both of their pride is a problem and they both could learn from each other and i wish the time had been taken for this to genuinely happen!

can we have some space to enjoy the nuance of these wonderfully flawed characters (again, on the Wonderfully Flawed Characters Show), instead of just blindly hating anyone that doesnt fawn over ur favs??

For anyone who’s unhappy that Inej’s background and experience as an SA survivor wasn’t included this season - I feel like they’re setting up a future season to explore it in depth? Like with Inej off with mal/tolya/tamar to apparently look for slavers and/or her family, that ties in very well to her backstory, and I know some book fans will argue that her path to figuring out she wants to hunt slavers is a crucial part of her arc (the heart is an arrow), and it is! In the books. In the show she’ll obviously have a different arc which could be just as impactful, using this slaver hunt and searching for her brother as a plot framework for exploring her past. I also feel like the pairing they’re hinting at between Inej and Tolya would give Inej the chance to see how a relationship with emotional vulnerability could look, which could be an interesting journey for her character (and could give the show a chance to explore her own difficulties with touch, since that isn’t really something they can show as well with Kaz since they obviously rarely touch - I know in the books it’s a line in the bathroom scene, but the show could build on that if it wanted to.) She might even find with Tolya that she herself can’t be completely emotionally or physically invulnerable as in-line with that bit in the book where her monologue is like, ‘what, am I just supposed to marry a NORMAL guy? With all this trauma? Be fucking for real rn’. Idk, if you didn’t like season 2 you’re obviously entitled to your own opinion, and I’m not saying I think everything was perfect (I, too, will regret not getting to see Inej steal Tante Heleen’s diamonds), I just think they’ve left a lot of room to explore this particular element in more detail and in a way that’ll be more impactful on-screen for further down the line.

this time around, dom was way more involved in the behind-the-scenes aspects of the tour, walking around and making sure everyone on the team was good and helping them when they weren't. the authoritative tone in his voice as he told them, respectfully but firmly, what he was looking for. walking up and down the same hallway, carrying out tasks from person to person, it was so amusing to watch. you only saw him with this same passion when he was in the studio, his lips pressed and a slight arch in his brow. most people wouldn't notice but you'd studied this man at every given chance, you noticed every tick of his. which is why you knew, he couldn't wait to pull you to the green room and shoo everyone out so he could get you alone.

with a knowing smirk on your lips, you're leant against the doorframe of said green room, watching as he's on his way to deliver electrical tape to who knows. "you're gonna tire yourself out before the show even starts," you warn, knowing how he tends to take on more than he can chew.

"nah, i got plenty left, trust. get in there and close the door, i'm coming in there after this." he shakes his curls out before breaking into a jog, hurrying to whoever he had to pass the tape to.

you just watch him pass you, eyes trailing over him until he's out of sight, pressing your lips together to hide your smile as you step back, closing the green room door while it was still empty of stragglers.

it didn't take too long, scrolling on tiktok to pass the time when the door opened without a knock, signalling it was dom. he closed and locked the door behind himself, strolling right over to you and before you could get any words out pressed his lips to yours. he was eager and needy, kisses rushed but yet like he was trying to savor your taste before he had to hit the stage. putting your hands on his chest, you kissed him back but gently pushed him away.

"after." you smiled knowingly, watching him deflate with disappointment.

"i've been hard for the past ten minutes." he complained, not trying to make you feel guilty. he knew you were right - you always were. but you were sure he was starting to hurt. during the show, he couldn't help but to mention you. he often did during his sets but not like this.

"this next song is called bodies. and i wanna dedicate it to my fine ass girlfriend over there," he slouches over the mic, guitar strap around his neck as he points to you waiting in the wings, "cuz we're starting fresh right after this show's over. let's go!" he goes into the song, bypassing the innuendo that he made and leaving your jaw dropped. he laughed into the lyrics as he looked back at your reaction, fingers flipped to send him the bird playfully as he continued into the song.

I usually don't like talking about these kinds of things bc I often find I'm Not Great With Words, but bear with me I'm gonna try my best here. I've pondered this a lot since getting into Mouthwashing.

Tl;dr, I've observed a borderline aggressive need to be correct all the time about the themes of Mouthwashing or else you're immediately called an immoral and awful person. And I feel like it creates an atmosphere where people are scared to speculate in case they're perceived as evil. Or maybe that's just me personally being scared, idk. Either way, more under the cut (spoilers, obviously)

After first finishing Mouthwashing, there was a lot I didn't notice. Unfortunately, I'm an oblivious person. I didn't understand what the hibiscus meant. I had no clue what the whole scene with turning the wheels with Curly meant. I didn't even realize what Jimmy did to Anya, let alone what the conversation between Anya and Swansea was about or why Anya hid the gun.

It took scrolling through Tumblr, reading other people's analysis in order to fully understand the story. Even then, I went back and watched another playthrough once I had a better understanding.

But what I found in the fandom was a lot of hostility towards people who didn't understand the whole picture yet, or people who had the 'wrong' idea. I saw a disturbing amount of people who were saying things along the lines of "If you didn't understand the story this way, then you're just as bad as Jimmy/Curly" or "You're also an enabler, you're a bystander, etc."

I believe Mouthwashing's story having the themes it does is an effort to spread awareness about them, and I feel like that's a pretty universally agreed upon sentiment. But things like this, that are complex and have a lot of grey area, some people just aren't going to understand immediately, and that's why the game exists. To tell a story, and to teach. Hopefully in time, the messages, symbolism, etc will sink in and people will understand and be better. And some people aren't gonna get it immediately. Everyone has vastly different perspectives, so it might take some time or even some convincing for people to truly understand it. But personally I don't think screaming at people is the way to go lmao

(side note, obviously there's nuance to this situation. if someone's takeaway from mouthwashing was 'anya deserved it' or some other horrible bullshit then yeah that warrants being screamed at. also, if u disagree with me, i'd love to hear why!!)
