attractive things bsd men do pt. I
you know there are things men do without being aware that makes them look hot (fixing watch, undoing tie to relax) I will try to add some more~
dazai, ranpo, atsushi
Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu: not averting his eyes from you
You had no idea how you ended up here...
It was 2 in the morning... You were barely keeping your eyes open. And your cute, handsome idiot boyfriend was happily sitting next to you, while you were driving... He was singing along to a song, shouting to be exact...
"Dazai, listen to me... I am not even awake enough to comprehend this shit. But if you think again that... it would be a good idea... to wake me up.. at 2 in the morning... just to drive... god knows whose car... to god knows where... i will make sure that-"
(You couldn't finish your threat. To be honest you didn't know how to finish. You can't use death threats on this man, he would happily accept it...)
"Oh come on darling, don't be like that... I am sure you will love it once we arrive... We even have some good stuff!" He swung two different wine bottles in his hands. You side-eyed him with suspicion
"Did you just take them from torpedo? Dazai please put them back, I am not gonna get drunk at this hour and I am sure the owner of the car wouldn't like that-" You suddenly stopped with the realization
"Dazai please tell me you didn't steal Chuuya's car and wine.."
Dazai smiled innocently "If this is gonna make you feel better, then yeah I didn't steal Chuuya's car or debit card or wine..."
"I-I...HOW DID YOU EVEN TAKE HIS DEBIT CARD? AND FOR WHAT?... You know what, nevermind-"
"And we arrived... Park somewhere, we are going out"
You raised your brows with confusion. There was nothing around you, not even a single building or light source, everywhere was so dark that you couldn't even see a thing. You used your phone flashlight to get out of the car "Dazai, where are we? And what the hell are we going to do in this dark, I can't see anything at all"
Dazai chuckled lightly and pulled you from your waist. He locked his hands behind you loosely "Close your flashlight and look up"
When you did, your eyes widened with the view. Your usual sight of pitch black sky was covered with a blanket of stars that stretched to infinity. They seemed so far yet so close at the same time...
"Dazai... this is...ethereal..." you could only whisper then you turn your gaze to him. He was directly looking into your eyes
"I know..." he said. "...this view is worth it.."
You couldn't help but feel flustered. You were used to Dazai's not averting his eyes from you whenever he was with you, he was always looking at your eyes like he was studying what lays beneath them. But you have never felt this aware of them until now...
"..thank you" you murmured while wrapping your arms around his bandaged neck
He responded with a kiss which could mean a lot of things...
Tumblr media
Edogawa Ranpo: being aware of his surroundings and acting thoughtful
"Y/N, I am getting tired~..." Ranpo whined again for the 4th time in the last 15 minutes. You sighed. Taking care of all minors of Ada at the same time would be easier than accompanying your man-child boyfriend to the crime scene, you were sure about that...
"Okay, honey... Let's take a break here" You stopped inside the park you were walking in and put your bag on the bank near you.
Your boyfriend cheered with excitement and lay on the bank as if he walked for miles. You looked around and saw a convenience store.
"I will go and grab some water for us. You can wait here.." Ranpo only raised his thumb, he didn't even get up from the bank he was laying
Not even after 5 minutes, you were coming back with water bottles in your hand. You almost dropped the bottles with what you just saw. Your boyfriend was hugging so cheerfully with a young woman. When Ranpo saw you, he waved his hand with excitement "Y/N look who I found! It has been so long that I haven't met with Hanako, my best friend!"
You frowned. You were sure that Ranpo didn't have any friends but Ada members and Poe... Before you say anything, Ranpo kept on rambling. And they started to tell you stories that you weren't involved at all... You couldn't help but feel bad when you got left-out by your own boyfriend...
After 10 minutes that passed like hell for you, Ranpo suddenly turned his head somewhere, only to remove his hand from Hanako's shoulders "I believe they left, you are safe now miss..." Before you could comprehend those words, the girl started to bow and thanking "I don't know how to thank you, you saved me from that creep-.." and she turned to you this time, only to bow again "I am so grateful for you too, thanks for your cover, I am saved..."
"It's okay... Here, this is our agency's number" Ranpo pulled out the agency's card from his pocket "If he or any other thing bothers you again, you can call us to get help..."
After she left, you looked at your boyfriend with your mouth agape. Ranpo looked at you and sighed "You really didn't notice the creep who was following that woman? He was probably gonna follow her to her house but he left after seeing she wasn't alone... Well, I guess being an amazing detective is not that easy-..." You shut him up by giving a peck to his lips "You are an amazing detective Ranpo.. and an amazing man..."
Tumblr media
Nakajima Atsushi: putting his hand on your waist to guide
You looked at the little memo on your hand. You were near to the address Ranpo gave you, as the smooth detective he was, he had already solved the mystery behind the case and sent you there to find the evidence.
As you were getting nearer, you couldn't help but feel uneasy. You always knew Yokohama was not the safest city. Other than the port mafia, there were a lot of gangs, criminals, and sins between these slums...
You could feel the gazes on you while you kept walking. When you sensed some people started to follow you, you couldn't help but sigh. You definitely were strong enough to defend yourself from a bunch of bandits but you would wish to avoid as much as possible... All you want was quickly finish your job, return to the office, and write your report.
"Y/N!.." You turn your back only to meet with Atsushi and you smiled brightly. It felt nice to see a familiar face in that gloomy street, you waved your hand with excitement to greet him.
Atsushi waved you back and then looked around him shortly. A frown appeared between his eyebrows, he gave a cold stare to the suspicious types who have been following you. You couldn't help but to smile to yourself, seeing your cute coworker could make a face like that was something else...
Atsushi came close to you and asked for the address. After you showed him the memo, he smiled sweetly at you "You are very close to finding it! May I accompany you, then we can return to the office together?"
You couldn't say no, him accompanying you might have suspend the others... "Of course, let's go!" you said.
While you were walking he started to ask questions about the details, and you started to explain the case to him. While you doing that, you felt a light touch on your back first, then that light touch became a light hold around your waist. You slightly checked the fingers on your waist and looked at him. Atsushi was acting like he did nothing "..and then?" he asked while guiding you with his hand to take a turn...
You couldn't help but feel a little abashed yet you didn't say anything. You felt safe and protected and you appreciated him for that. Maybe he would do the same thing when you were going back? (but God forbid if Dazai saw you like that...)

Rereading the early Guild Arc is incredible because it's Fukuzawa and Mori engaging in viciously nasty and personal threats to one another's closest loved ones and allies that wildly escalates beyond their implicitly agreed upon tension, which comes to a head because Dazai petulantly mischaracterizes Mori as pathologically mathematical (because he isn't over that Mori could do what he did to Dazai) and intentionally triggers the paranoia and obsessive compulsive betrayal sensitivity that he'd clocked in Mori at fifteen, causing Mori to irrationally lash out and release Q (and then self flagellate because the consequences of this were wildly amplified by the Guild's seizure of Q), by which point Dazai realizes he'd gone too far and now has to get Ango hit by a car about it.
And Francis is just like. There.
(He's also going through it, but because Louisa isn't in underground son protection jail like Ranpo or hashing out unresolved grief like Dazai and Mori, she's keeping Francis rational with decision trees and focused tasks within the realm of his control.)
This is why there's a chapter called "The Conflict of Strategies." The Strategy of Conflicts by Thomas Schelling is about coordination between mutually dependent parties in conflicts. Unlike zero-sum games (in which one person's gain is equivalent to another's loss), mutually dependent parties rely on each other and so can't draw blood without harming themselves in the process.
The Agency and the Port Mafia are both pillars maintaining Yokohama's tenuous stability; if one falls, the whole city could devolve into a warzone. Thus, their mutual dependence is part of the logical structure of any strategy and demands some kind of collaboration or mutual accommodation, even if only in the avoidance of mutual disaster.
Mori often uses a strategy of irrationality, i.e. he acts volatile and whimsically sociopathic, where he's actually very controlled and rational, which Dazai knows. But, as Dazai reveals to Mori's horror in Fifteen, Dazai also knows where Mori is vulnerable to emotional provocation. This is because Mori, like everyone else, isn't completely rational or completely irrational; it's not a one-dimensional scale. But, "everyone else" includes Dazai.
Dazai characterizes Mori as a math equation because he's still reeling from the betrayal he feels over Mori sacrificing Oda despite knowing how much Dazai loved Oda, and despite Mori knowing it would drive Dazai away from him— because he and Mori also love each other. Even though Dazai probably understands logically that Mori made the decision despite his love for Dazai (and not in the absence of it) because Mimic was an existential threat on Yokohama, Dazai cannot shake the irrational and emotional thought, "If you could do that to me, of all people, you really are as coldly logical as a math equation."
This is irrational because Dazai knows that's not true; he demonstrated in Fifteen that he knows that Mori is terrified of, more than anything else, chaos, and that the threat of chaos is enough to trigger Mori into decisions he does not want to make and otherwise would not make. That's what he was trying to do in Mori's office in the first chapter of Fifteen— goad Mori into killing him by invoking a fear response.
But, Dazai is hurt and so he treats Mori as coldly rational and approaches him with vicious disregard for Mori's betrayal sensitivity, loneliness, and fear by taking Kouyou and leveraging Kyouka to keep Kouyou from returning to Mori. Mori, having lost Kyouka and thus Kouyou's incentive for staying in the Port Mafia, was already afraid he'd lost Kouyou's loyalty and support— and she's one of the four people he depends on. He also depends on Dazai, and although he's aware he drove Dazai away, that still hurts him. Further, Dazai demonstrating that he can and will use what he knows about Mori against him is terrifying to Mori because Dazai is one of the very few people capable of emotionally manipulating Mori. Dazai has Mori's nerves pinched between his fingers while telling Atsushi it's just an electrical wire.
Anyway, then Q is seized, hundreds of Port Mafia members and affiliates are killed, and Mori is wracked with shame and the fear that he behaved like the old boss. That's why Hirotsu and Chuuya are so gentle with him, and why, despite their agreement that Kouyou would stay with Dazai until Dazai saved Kyouka, Dazai asks her to return to Mori. It's also why the Agency and Port Mafia call a truce to collaborate against the Guild, without blaming Mori for what happened. They forgive because the cost of fighting is, as just demonstrated, too high, but also, they recognize that the escalation was mutually cultivated.
It's also why, at the very end, Mori asks Kouyou why she stays when she could leave. He knows he doesn't have Kyouka anymore, and he's still grappling with his guilt for those entrusted to his care that were killed because of his lapse in rationality. But, Kouyou assures him that this is a version of the Port Mafia she wants to protect. Because, even as Mori was spiraling and releasing Q, Kouyou was realizing that, unlike what happened to her, Kyouka could leave and decide for herself where and with whom she feels safe and has purpose. She could do that because Mori and the Agency have helped to create spaces and community and stability where there wasn't before. He's helped create a world where Kyouka can be a flower born in darkness and yet still make the choice to bloom in the light without being rejected or burned by it.
(And also because Kyouka left, and Mori didn't go after her to force Kouyou to stay. Because he would never do that.)
She wants to nurture that world with him, and she trusts him. The conflict may have escalated, but as soon as the cost was felt by the city and their own people, the Port Mafia and Agency were able to mutually deescalate and collaborate to contain the chaos and defuse it before it spread.
Mori isn't the old boss, and the humanity and love in him is reflected in his stewardship of their city. His humanity and love also mean he's capable of being hurt and will sometimes act emotionally and irrationally. But, it's okay for him to not always be rational; that's why Kouyou and Chuuya (and Hirotsu, who was goddamn MVP in the Guild Arc) are there to support him.

Dazai x reader (besties, but dazai having feelings for her.)
The whole agency attends a wedding of a client<3. Like, make some scenarios of ur choice. Also,The bride throws her bouquet and gets caught by the reader leaving the reader flustered.
Tumblr media
I Do *•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙˚
➼authors note: ahh! this is so cute! i really look forward to your requests! you ask and i shall deliver!
➼pairings: Dazai x fem!reader
➼summary: you attend the wedding of a client with the agency but you did not expect your turn to be next?
Tumblr media
You zipped up one of your finest of dresses, pairing it with a simple pearl necklace and earrings and taking your clutch and walking out of your room.
You wore your heels and took your keys leaving for the night. A client had so kindly invited you to their wedding after the agency helped saved them.
Kunnikida was supposed to pick you up as you didn't feel like driving that night and as if on cue you heard a car honk outside. You opened the door and sat on the passenger seat.
"good evening Kunnikida"
"good evening [name]" he said calmly and drove off.
You two talked about how nice the client is on your way to the venue and discussed other matters. You reached the venue in 15 minutes and got out of the car to see the agency standing there waiting for you two and ranpo and president.
You walked to them greeting them.
"hello guys!" you said cheerfully.
"damn girl you're looking fine" you heard yosano say walking up to you. She didn't look any less, she looked stunning.
"says you" you smiled at her.
what you didn't notice at first was dazai staring at you, his eyes lit up watching you walk down. He was speechless. A man who had more control on his emotions than anyone, had no control over this feeling. He forced them to subside but failed miserably causing his cheeks to flush.
"oh hey donna~" he said oddly nervous.
"hey dazai! whats up!" you smiled walking to him.
You two talked abit with dazai just gazing at your eyes the entire time until the president and ranpo arrived. You all walked in and sat n your seats when refreshments were served. Dazai took 2 champagne glasses and gave one to you, while yosano took wine instead. Ranpo was taking the appetizers and president was sitting calmly on his seat observing everything while kunnikida was writing something down... probably his ideal wedding. Naomi and Tanazaki excused themselves as they had to go to school tomorrow.
The bride entered and she looked stunning you gasped at how lovely she looked while dazai was focused on you the entire time. How your cheeks flushed slightly when the groom took the brides hand to bring her to him, how your hair looked so gorgeous, your simple yet stunning jewelry and you beautiful dress. What was happening to him? He shook his head and turned away.
The bride and groom were saying their vows as yosano smiled gently at the sight circling her wine glass, kunnikida observing with a calm expression. the president also had a small smile and ranpo couldn't care less. As the priest said "you may now kiss the bride" it made you abit emotional and you took dazais hand commenting on how cute the couple looks and how you can't wait to experience this one day, while all he could think about was that if you want he would put a ring on your finger right now, but oh how he was too good at hiding his feelings and how blind you were to his.
Soon enough after some snacks the bride lined up everyone to throw her bouquet in the end and smiled softly at you when she noticed the agency there. You didn't want to stand there but yosano pulled you so here you are. you stood still waiting for the flowers to get launched but what you didn't expect was her throw to go so far that it reached as far as you were standing and...out of the blue...you caught it.
The agency all started cheering for you as kunnikida clapped yosano hugged you tightly, ranpo cheered and president smiled. Dazai looked at you shocked as you caught the flowers. Your face shun a bright red flustered at all the sudden attention looking at the flowers in disbelief. You chuckled nervously and hugged yosano back and soon went back to your seat when everyone settled down. You showed dazai the flowers and he just said.
"nice catch" and laughed
"i didn't expect her to throw all the way back!" you chuckled nervously.
The bride and groom were going back but stopped on their way to greet you guys. You all stood up congratulating them and dazai teased the groom so bad flustering him and you nudged his shoulder laughing. What a great day...and if theres one thing dazai learnt.
it was how badly he wanted to wife you up

Day 12: Vehicles
Chuuya learned early in their partnership that Dazai is not, and can not, be allowed to drive under any circumstance except one.
And that’s only if Chuuya is legitimately passed out and can’t drive for them.
Chuuya doesn’t know if it’s the ADHD or the Dazai’s eagerness to die or a combination of both that makes the man an abomination to the rules of the road.
Whatever it is, though, he wants nothing to do with it.
The amount of curbs that have jostled Chuuya’s fragile organs after Corruption and the amount of mini heart attacks he’s had from a certain mackerel speeding through red lights has left him scarred.
He wouldn’t be surprised if it genuinely took off years of his life.
Mori had tried to teach him and Dazai how to drive when they were fifteen so they could get fake IDs of their permits, and later, their licenses.
One lesson and an almost-plummet into the harbor was enough to have the man reconsidering.
So then the responsibility went to Chuuya, and who would he be if he didn’t take the opportunity to be better than Dazai at something?
He realized belatedly that Dazai’s just a fucking lazy ass who’d rather play passenger princess like the brat he is.
What’s worse is that he /knows/ Dazai can theoretically drive if he really wants to. One loss at go-karts told him all he needed to know.
And yet Dazai still claims to this day that he hates driving and being on Chuuya’s bike but you know what? At least Chuuya is safe when he drives, both for them and for others.
Chuuya made it a point early on in their partnership that Dazai was not allowed to touch his bike without him being there, and even then that was a hit or miss.
So if it leads to Dazai being his passenger with arms wrapped around his chest and head between Chuuya’s shoulders, then Chuuya isn’t to blame either.
That’s entirely Dazai’s fault.
Chuuya’s favorite thing, though, is hearing the stories of how Dazai’s managed to traumatize his Agency coworkers because, like the dick he is, he didn’t tell them about his “ability” to drive most any motor vehicle.
Chuuya got the rundown of Kunikida’s experience from the man himself when they’d gone out drinking once. A five minute drift in a roundabout was enough for the blond to surrender and take Dazai’s (fake) license from him.
Ranpo was smart and never set foot near a car with Dazai. Yosano took the hint from Ranpo and did the same, though apparently she’s let Dazai drive them back to the dorms after getting sloshed enough that she doesn’t even remember their drinking sessions (Dazai’s words, not hers).
Atsushi, unfortunately, was a victim of the roundabout incident like Kunikida, and luckily the rest of the members haven’t had the chance to experience the ‘thrill’ of Dazai’s driving.
Apparently his ‘license’ is still confiscated to this day in a drawer in Fukuzawa’s desk after Kunikida ratted him out.
Chuuya knows that doesn’t stop Dazai when dire situations call for least-wanted escape methods.
Maybe one day Dazai will actually obey the laws when he drives. And even if he doesn’t, Chuuya doesn’t mind being the chauffeur for them. That just means more back hugs on his motorcycle.

Note
omg I never see anyone talking about fukuzawa and kunikidas background but I agree with you so much I think he met him as a teenager if not younger. I've always liked to think that kunikidas parents know fukuzawa somehow and he kinda grew up knowing him. kunikidas whole background and family is such a mystery it drives me crazy
DUDE SAME HOLY SHIT I'm so curious about Kunikida's background because!! We know!! So little!! Like the only reason we know he used to be a math teacher is because he was literally working as one when Dazai's entrance exam happened - what was he doing before?? How did he discover he has an Ability?? Considering it's basically canon Abilities come from trauma, what even happened to him so his own manifested?
People talk about how Dazai is so careful on what he tells the agency but ngl, the agency know jack fucking shit about each other lmao. It's not just Dazai - we still have no clue what the fuck is up with the Tanizaki siblings or how Kunikida joined the agency. No one knew about Yosano's backstory before she shared it with Tanizaki and Kenji sans Ranpo and Fukuzawa because they RESCUED HER. Its confirmed no one sans Ranpo and Fukuzawa (possibly Yosano) know how the agency was founded in Untold Origins; and so much around Kenji is a mystery as well. We know about Atsushi because of his trauma dumping (as he deserves) and Kyouka because her joining the agency was so dramatic - everyone else though is far from an open book. Especially Kunikida.
Also - Kunikida's so fucking WEIRD, right?? Like people talk about him like he's the 'sane' one of the agency, but that's just because he's next to Dazai fucking Osamu, who makes anyone look normal. Kunikida is way too down with violence - hell, the first appearance we get of him he pins a starving orphan to the floor, it's noted he's not allowed to ask questions to clients because he gets violent, and he's told to cool it by Dazai of all people. Like?? He's passively suicidal with a HUGE guilt complex, and like, that obsession with his ideals can't come from nowhere. Like Kunikida's commitment to his ideals to the point of self destruction is shown to be bad for him, the center of his character and his flaws, so where does something like that come from? People also skip over the specifics of his moral code - because that's not clear cut either lmao. He breaks into weather stations because they reported wrong, steals cars when people have insurance, is just kinda like -_- when Atsushi and Kyouka are in danger in the start of the manga, and really, he's just... his morals don't align with the law. Period. Nor do they seem simple, despite how people want to read him.
So how the FUCK did that happen?
Because like I said, we know so little about Kunikida!
I really like the idea you said, about Kunikida having grown up knowing Fukuzawa! That's definitely interesting, I don't think I've heard that. It would make sense if Fukuzawa started training Kunikida early - because he's way too good for someone who started training at say, 18. In Dazai's Entrance Exam he wipes the floor with an opponent who has a significant weight and size advantage over him, and I actually think he could match Chuuya in terms of pure martial arts (maybe not beat, but it would definitely be a close fight without Abilities). That's too good for someone who only started training hardcore when he hit adulthood.
Also - I think Fukuzawa was the one who gave Kunikida his Ideals notebook. I don't think he was there when his Ability manifested or anything, but I do think he was the one who gave Kunikida that direction, that sense of purpose. It makes sense to me - Kunikida's dislikes have authority listed (considering the author irl, that makes sense), and he's got one of the most vulgar speech patterns in the series and comparatively rarely uses honorifics... yet he respects Fukuzawa so much?? He defers to him so much?? He's his successor, outright stated? What caused that type of loyalty, that type of deference?
Was Kunikida the first person to take an entrance exam, considering the agency was started for Ranpo and Yosano definitely didn't? What was his even like?? WHY did they make him the first one to take it, if he did?
Idk, I REALLY hope we get more on Kunikida's backstory soon. There's so much that's implied, and at the least I hope we get more on his relationship with Fukuzawa.

how ada members drive
dazai: has never obeyed a traffic law in his LIFE. crashes every single car he's ever driven. on the absolute top of the "DO NOT LET DRIVE" list
kunikida: also a bad driver but doesn't think he is one. will stop in the middle an intersection at any point. has all road laws memorized but doesn't necessarily follow them.
ranpo: simply can't drive at all. even if he could he has no sense of direction and would manage to get hopelessly lost everytime.
yosano: a pretty good driver!! a little aggressive at times and has some of the most...um...creative road rage comments you'll ever hear but she can get to where she wants to go when she wants to with little chance of a crash. prefers taking the train to driving though.
fukuzawa: whenever hes driving someone else (esp an agency member) he's a perfect driver. when he's alone he definitely speeds lol
atsushi: such a nervous driver!!! (assuming anyone teaches him to drive) hc that he is a terrifying mix of dazai and kunikidas styles (because they taught him) and well. he can drive! but its not fun for anyone.
kyouka: best driver in the agency right here lmao and she can't even legally drive yet
kenji: like ranpo he cannot drive at all (well he can drive a tractor but thats it)
junichiro: a pretty average driver. gets surprisingly mad sometimes and then gets super embarrassed about it lol. he also has like 12 driving playlists he cycles (some were made by naomi)

Detective Trio (Poe x Ranpo x PM (neutral) reader)
since season 4 is out and I’ve already binged it all hehe I thought some cute fluff of a little mystery gang. Also just saying Ranpo has been one of my favorites from the beginning so seeing his backstory made me so happy. Might add a part two if asked… Anyways here you go filthy animals!!!!
Tumblr media
You messaged the groupchat, “Hey fellas! A new bookstore opened up in town and they have a cafe! Please come with me I don’t want to go alone ☺️” with a small grin on your face, you pressed send.
The phone immediately dinged as you just closed it, looking at message Ranpo was the first to respond, “Do they have sweets? If so I’m down fr” a little giggle. All that boy ever cared about was food. Poe’s response was very blend, “I wouldn’t mind going.” Typing out a reply to Ranpo’s question to make sure he won’t skip.
“I believe they do, Ranpo. But if we are all down to go I’m available tomorrow evening.” Pressing send and placing my phone on my work desk trying to finish my latest case. Seeing as all of my mystery buddies are from different organizations some would believe it was awkward but it wasn’t, we never brought up work only books and Poe would show his new project. It felt so refreshing to have friends that share a liking with my hobbies.
You grab your bag with files and got ready to leave. As you were leaving the warehouse, you decided to check the chat,
     5 new messages
P - “Evening, like what time evening because I don’t want to be too early?
R - “No need to stress Poe, actually bigger question how can I get there? I hate buses and trains they’re to complicated!”
P - “I don’t have a car but maybe Ranpo we could meet up and go together via Taxi”
R - “Yeah but we could just force (Y/N) to take us because they have a car and then we wouldn’t have to pay!!”
P - “mm I guess we could ask but from the lack of replies they probably are finishing work.”
“Wow these moochers” you whispered under your breath giggling  as you’re walking down the corridor to leave. “Ahem Mx. (Y/N) what’s the giggle about?” The man spoke but you didn’t want to look up and see his face. “Hello boss… nothing just a few personal thoughts…” looking at Mori’s shoes trying not to break underneath the stare he has. “Hm that’s nice. Did you finish the case I’ve assigned you?” You nodded at the boss’s question trying to finish this interaction as soon as possible. “Ah thank you I’ll take the files now then, also take tomorrow off if you already finished..” You finally made eye contact with the man and reached into your bag taking out the file. Handing it to him with a question,  “Are you sure you don’t need anything tomorrow?” It wasn’t that you like working it was that you needed the money. He nodded his head and walked off, you should have known not to question his judgment. You just walked out to your car not wanting to look stupid.
Finally in your car, you felt safe enough to answer the messages.
“Okay moochers I’ll give you two a ride, I’ll pick you up at the ADA if that’s fine with you Ranpo.” Pressing send and putting the phone in a car holder to speed out the parking lot.
3 new messages
P - “I am not a moocher! It wasn’t my idea to force you to drive, I asked nicely”
R - “ Yeah I’m fine with being picked up from the ADA as long as we don’t have to PAY 😈”
P - “Thank you very much
(Y/N)”
Being home was such a nice atmosphere, the feeling you get from coming home after working with a deadly mafia that constantly overworks and threatens you is a different type of relief. You planned on checking your phone after making dinner, showering, and getting ready for bed. But that didn’t work after you kept hearing it go off in your bedroom. Walking over and seeing new 6 messages from the chat.
R- “Wait I FORGOT I DON’T HAVE MONEY”
R- “POE pleaseeeee pleaseeeee pay for me I’ll pay you back”
P- “The other day you were bragging about having enough money for snacks”
R- “EXACTLY I SPENT IT ALL ON SNACKS”
R- “IT WAS A GOOD CHOICE I HAVE NO REGRETS!”
R- “POE I KNOW YOU ARE READING MY MESSAGES!!! ANSWER ME!”
Goodness these two boys could never get enough of their own little games. You made sure to put extra money in your wallet before going to bed for the night. Deciding what time to set your alarm and finally hitting dream land.
  One new message
P- “Last time you said you would pay me back, it took 5 months just to convince you to pay me back” (sent 3am)
    * The next morning *
Finally ready, you looked in your full body mirror to check your outfit. Grabbing your keys and heading out the door. Opening your sliver SUV driver door ready to head off for your trip. Starting the car, reading your mental list of everything you have to make sure you didn’t forgot anything.
Outside the ADA office honking your horn to tell Ranpo you’re here about 5 minutes early.  Ranpo walked to the window looking at the window waving seeing you wave back. With a loud giggle from the shorter boy he says,”Come on Poe, they’re here” before the boys can leave, Dazai looks out the window seeing you hanging out your driver window. Dazai makes an ahem to catch Ranpo’s attention, “Ranpo what are you doing with a detective from the Port Mafia?” Dazai’s glare was sweet but laced with questionable intentions. “Oh (Y/N) I don’t see a problem with their occupation. I’m the world’s greatest detective I would be able to see if they had bad goals. So (Y/N), Poe, and me are going on a trip.” Ranpo set things straight and walks out with Poe. “Let’s not tell       (Y/N) about what Dazai said. My friends care about me so they have the right to ask questions, but (Y/N) shouldn’t feel as if their job affects our friendship…” Ranpo tells Poe before walking out the building to your car.
Connecting your music to the car radio and waiting for the boys to figure out seating arrangements. Ended up in a fight and you had to pick. Ranpo in the backseat in the middle which left Poe the passenger seat. “OH Come on (Y/N) again with (fav artist) don’t you have any better taste!!!” Ranpo whined as if he didn’t compliment your music a few days ago when you sent him a song. “I think this music is quite good..” Ranpo said quietly. “WOW don’t be a suck up POE BE YOUR OWN MAN!!” Ranpo said with a grin and you couldn’t help howling with laughter.
Pulling into the parking lot of the library, which to our pleasure was mostly empty. You and Poe share a dislike for public eyes to stare. Turning off the car and hoping of the car with the boys, putting your keys into your pocket, “What genre of book are we getting first?” You say thinking really hard. “I want to look into the mystery of course” Poe said walking behind the car to be beside us. Ranpo made a face then spoke, “Maybe thriller I don’t know first I’m checking the menu” with a laugh you three walked in.

My Dear Ranpo
(A/N: HEYYY! I'M BACK!!! You know how much I love Relationship Reveals, so I decided to branch out, at least in terms of ships. This is my first time writing Ranpo so sorry if it's bad. Also I do feel kinda bad cuz I got  a soukoku request, and I am working on that but I haven't had much writng inspiration for a week or two now so when I go the idea for thids I had to write it. No beta we die like Tachihara's brother.)
(1,055 words)
Kunikida’s Perspective
As soon as Ranpo walked in we knew something was wrong. He was missing his glasses.
Now twenty minutes later, he sits at his desk staring off into the distance, snacks untouched.
“Hey, Ranpo-san, you look ill, want some tea? It’s a special herbal blend from my village. It’s what my mother always gave me and my siblings when we were ill, cured us right up.” Kenji smiles brightly, offering a mug to Ranpo.
“No. I’m not ill at all, the greatest detective in the world does not fall ill! I’m simply bored from being around so many regular people.”
Kenji smiles, knowing not to be offended.
-
This goes on a few more times as Yosano and I try to convince the clearly ailing detective to return home. I even offered to drive him, though now that I think about it I have no idea where he lives. (I know he used to live with the president but surely he doesn’t anymore.)
Each time the detective gives no more hint of giving in than before, if anything he becomes more adamant about staying.
-
Just as Atsushi steps up to try his hand at shaking the detective’s resolve there’s a faint knock on the door. Who could it be now? This is early for Dazai to come in and he never knocks. Is it perhaps a raid, the old man in the Black Lizard attack squad has been known to knock before raids, to give the appearance of a normal customer.
Cautiously I head over to the door, and peer through the door viewer. To my relife it isn’t Dazai or the Black Lizard. But I do feel bad for the man on the other side of the door. This particular Guild member has been a common sight this past year, but Ranpo is extra stubborn today, so I’m sure he won’t feel up to reading any of the books he brings. I should at least warn the novelist.
I open the door.
The Guild novelist bows and gives a polite greeting “Ohayōgozaimasu, Kunikida-san” then walks right past me, before I can warn him. He shows no trace of his trademark shyness.
(A/N: thinking of that episode where someone, either Kunikida or Dazai enters the agency office and is like “OHAYŌ!” and it’s the loudest thing ever)
He strides right up to Ranpo’s desk, placing a hand immediately on the man’s forehead. Ranpo looks up, leaning into the novelist’s touch. The novelist huffs and pulls his hand back, only to start stroking Ranpo’s hair.
“Take me home Edgar.” Ranpo demands, it sounds more like a sigh. What!? Now all of the sudden? What changed?
“Of course, I am dreadfully sorry the meeting with my publisher took so long. You’re ready to go home my dear?”
Ranpo nods, already standing, no trace of stubbornness visible in his expression, he looks calm, if somewhat dismayed at his illness, as he leans against the taller man’s shoulder. Ranpo’s eyes are closed. He shovers and the racoon that always accompanies the Guild member crawls onto his shoulders, settling down like a fur collar.
Is the novelist going to drive him home? I suppose that it isn’t too suprining that he knows where Ranpo lives since they’re friends. They are standing rather close to be just friends though, but Ranpo is strai– . . . (Truthfully, at least that I’ve noticed, he’s never shown interest in anyone in the entire time I’ve known him.)
“You can hold Karl in the car if you’re cold, with that fever of yours you must be,” the Guild member tuts, “I must tell you that it was entirely unnecessary of you to come into the office today, surely your CEO wouldn’t have minded. I would have much preferred you stayed home, I was quite startled when I found these.” He places the glasses on Ranpo and places a sticky note to his forehead, pressing it onto the detective's skin with a kiss.
I struggle to read the note as the two men walk towards the door, shoulder to shoulder. It reads “Come get me, I’m bored.” in English.
What is the meaning of this? I knew people were more tactile in American culture, but this? This is a bit much no . . . unless . . .?
Ranpo only “hmmm”s quietly, leaning closer to the novelist.
“Do promise me, dear, that next time you’re unwell or think you may be coming down with something, let me know. I’m happy to have my personal physician check on you.”
Ranpo coughs and it sounds suspiciously like “Rich people!” Then he does speak, “You worry too much Edgar. I may be your dear, but I’m not that breakable.”
Or at least I’m pretty sure that’s what he says, my English isn’t as perfect as it could be.
All at once things click into place. They’re dating. I know that professionally, I should be at least a little annoyed but I’m not Ranpo’s superior, that role was given to the president and the president only. I can’t blame Ranpo for wanting to keep his personal life out of work, and the Guild hasn’t given us trouble in some time now, besides they look so sweet together.
I don’t try to stop them as they leave, instead looking around at the expressions of my colleagues. Whether shocked or endeared I know we all have some questions, but those can wait until Ranpo is feeling well again.
(A/N: This turned out much softer than I intended but I actually like it. I hope you do as well even though The relationship reveal isn’t as intense. It was kind of refreshing for me to write Kunikida as accepting of a relationship as opposed to other reveals I’ve written (mainly soukoku so it’s understandable). I do plan to make a part two of them questioning Ranpo when he gets back (affectionately of course) and that will definitely include more shocked pen-breaking Kunikida. lol)

“What on earth is wrong with you, are you stupid? Are you even aware of how many charges you could be faced with for almost running over someone attempting to walk across a crosswalk?”
From where you sat on the bench nearby, it was hard not to pay attention to every insult and criticism Akutagawa was spitting at the man in the car. Even after they persuasively apologized, he wasn’t letting up on the person that was driving; he wasn’t about the let them get away with it, “If it were up to me; they would be calling the police on you; Idiot.”
And perhaps you were the idiot he was referring to, but what would calling the police do? Ranpo and the agency would take care of it; faster than any station spilling their reassurances.
When he came walking from the passenger side door towards you, the older gentleman climbed back inside their vehicle with their head in their hands. “Look, you really should reconsider.” Akutagawa said, his black trench coat flowing by his sides even with his arms crossed. “They shouldn’t be gotten off the hook so easily.”
“They’re not getting off the hook, it was an accident; and besides who said anything about them getting away with it.” Akutagawa grumped at that and looked back towards the red sports car, “I guess you’re right, I guess. You’re even more generous than that good for nothing, weretiger. That trait will get you killed. However,” When he paused, he looked over his shoulder.
“However, what?” He did nothing to answer you. He instantly sat next to you without warning, taking the side of your head and forcing you to stare at him. He then leaned closer. You swore he was about to kiss you. “However, that is about to change.”
You hadn’t known what he meant by that until he turned to block an incoming bullet with his ability. Screams coming from every direction. “You’re not dying today.”

The Outworld Melodia
Tumblr media
Social fear strong as an explosion, while the tiger cub's thoughts troublesome as pollution. The day eventful with bombs and raids, yet no harm done in the end. Beneath the moon, the flowers bloom, and the gentle melody washes away the gloom.
Warnings: explosions, social anxiety, mentions of violence, comfort, getting raided by the Port Mafia, comforting Atsushi.
Chapter 4
------------------------------
Your shoes hit the rocky sidewalk. People walk past you, walking their dogs and minding their business. The cars drive on the road, their horns blaring in the distance. There was a dizzy feeling in your head, and your stomach was doing twists and turns as you continued walking and observing the people around you. You walked a bit faster, nearly running to your destination, which was the post office.
To your misfortune, you got tasked to go out and fetch some packages. Your friends, Yosano and Ranpo, insisted that you should do it and that they were too busy to accompany you, which was even worse because there was no one else you had asked to tag along.  Luckily, the post office wasn't too far from the agency, but the constant thought and paranoia of being watched by the people even if you weren’t, haunted your very core.
You appreciate Yosano and Ranpo trying to help you out of social anxiety, but forcing you to go out to deliver and fetch things on your own is beginning to make you feel sicker each day. It was just much easier to have someone walk alongside you.
Desperate to get the sickly feeling out of your stomach, you started thinking about Atsushi. He was a sweet boy, but even so, you can sense deep-rooted fear and hesitancy when you are near him. It could have been that he was just shy and socially anxious like you since he got kicked out of the orphanage he used to live in and had been on his own for weeks. Dazai loves talking about everything he knows about people. But you have a feeling it might be something else. Fear, perhaps? Fear of his own ability and accept people in his life.
You hope his time in the armed detective agency will help him become confident and more trusting of the people around him.
The post office came to your sight. You mentally prepared yourself for possible conversations you will have with people there. It was a habit whenever you went to places and needed to talk.
In your daze, you accidentally dump your shoulder against someone. "Uh! Sorry," you quickly apologized but then froze when you sensed the person's emotions.
It was pure dark coldness. Within was some kind of a red devil, ready to eat and kill without hesitation. It was ferocious, and there was anger hidden within even if the person was calm as the wind outside.
You shuddered under the deadly sensation. You do not think you have ever felt something so dangerous before.
Your thoughts were broken by a scream and a loud explosion. The heat and the shockwave nearly pushed you off your feet. Instinctually, you protected yourself. The heatwave eventually calmed down, and you watched as the police station from the other side of the street burned in flames.
You looked back to see the person you dumbed into but found them gone, the vicious demonic tune with them like they were never there.
Shivers ran down your back. The explosion was no mere accident. Someone from the Port Mafia must have done it. Only they would do something like this, and it would explain the dark sensation you felt moments ago.
You got your phone out quickly and called the first person on your list. You had a feeling that something terrible was going to happen soon.
Well... after dealing with your task and leaving after the investigators questioned you about the explosion since you were there before it happened. You couldn't tell much since you didn't see the culprit's face, so you kept it short and left when you had the chance. When you returned to the agency, your suspicions were confirmed when you heard about the encounter between Atsushi and the Port Mafia. Tanizaki and Naomi were seriously injured, but luckily, Dazai intertwiened at the right time, and the two were going to be okay with Yosano's treatment.
However, Atsushi seemed to have taken the whole thing hard on himself. You could feel the quilt flowing out of him even without your ability. Apparently, someone had put a high bounty on him— thus why the Port Mafia attacked him specifically. It was definitely something no one should experience on their first day on the job, so maybe that's why you decided to talk to him.
You found him sitting alone in a room, bearing a grim look on his face.
"Hey, Atsushi," you walked over to him. Atsushi jumped for a moment till he saw you. "Oh, (Name). It's just you," he said as you pulled over a chair to sit beside him. "How are you feeling? I heard what happened with you and the Port Mafia," you questioned as you sat down on the chair.
Atsushi remained quiet for a while before his shoulders shuddered, and you could see tears threatening to fall from his eyes. "I'm sorry... I couldn't protect them," he said. "I... was too weak," he avoided looking at you in the eye.
"Hey... it's okay. Things like this can happen," you comfortably rubbed his shoulder. "And you literally got attacked by the Port Mafia. They are known to be dangerous for a reason," you explained softly. "But now I know someone had put a bounty on me, a ridiculously high amount as well," Atsushi said. "If I never joined the agency, then maybe Tanizaki and Naomi would..." he started.
"Hey, don't beat yourself for that," you stated.
"You couldn't have known that someone had put a bounty on you, and you only recently discovered your gift," you said. "You would have most likely been hunted down by the Port Mafia even if you had never joined the agency," you explained. "So, don't blame yourself. And besides, Tanizaki and Naomi are going to be okay. Yosano's ability might sound disturbing, but it has saved us from death many times. Those two are in good hands," you said reassuringly.
"What's more important now is to keep you safe," you said. "We will help you out of this, so don't lose hope just yet," you added. Atsushi stared at you, still hesitant but more at ease. "Thank you, (Name), but how can you be positive about this?" he questioned.
"Well, I once heard an advice like this. If you feel anxious, depressed, hopeless, angry, but you haven't shit your pants just yet, then things are going to be okay," you said, making Atsushi let out a small snort. "That is.. quite an advice," he uttered. "Yeah... but it has helped me remember that things can be alright in the end," you teased. You two then sat in comforting silence.
"How about you try to take a little breather? And join us later to deal with Kunikida's constant nagging about files in the office," you stood up. "I... think I'll take a walk outside," Atsushi replied. "Okay... but be careful. People from Port Mafia can be unpredictable sometimes. We can't have you kidnapped in the middle of the day," you said. "I will..." he answered, and you smiled before leaving the room to give him peace.
You walked into the office, feeling a bit fatigued over the actions of the day. Ranpo, Yosano, and Kenji were in the office. "Hey, (Name)." the blonde-haired boy greeted you with a bright smile. "Hi, Kenji," you replied. "Anything special today? Besides the explosions and near-death experiences that nearly happened to our friends?" you questioned. "Nothing yet at least!" Kenji beamed at you.
"How are Tanizaki and Naomi doing?" you looked at Yosano. "Oh, they're doing well. I made sure to treat them very well," Yosano smiled at you and felt slightly threatened by her uneasy smile. "Well, that's good to hear," you uttered.
"Did you talk with the tiger boy?" she asked. "Yes. He felt guilty about the whole thing. It seems he takes things a bit too hard on himself," you explained.
"Well, do not worry about it too much because that brat has now gone off somewhere," Kunikida said as he dropped a pile of files on the desk. "What do you mean?" you questioned. "He was leaving the building, and I asked him to help me and possibly prepare for the Port Mafia's actions, and then he just told me not to worry about it and left anyway," he explained. You nearly stood up. "You couldn't possibly mean that he—" you were about to say till the door to the office was slammed open.
You all looked and saw a bunch of people wearing black suits. There was an elderly man in the middle, and there was an orange-haired boy with a bandage on his nose on the man's left while there was a masked girl on the right.
You had a bad feeling because you sensed the killing intention emanating from them.
"Who are you?" Kunikida asked.
"Apologies," the elderly man started. "Even though you're a detective agency, we forgot to make an appointment, " he said. You slowly lifted the whistle around your neck into your mouth. "And we forgot to knock, " the elderly man said and snapped his fingers. The men around him then lifted their machine guns at you.
You took a deep breath, and your friends quickly covered their ears as you blew the whistle.
Atsushi was walking on the sidewalk, wondering about what he should do next after leaving the agency and calling the Port Mafia to come after himself. He was going to miss you and others, but at least you would be safe from the trouble his existence could cause to you.
He stopped when he suddenly heard a loud whistle and exploding of windows. "A whistle? Wait! That came from the agency!" Atsushi quickly began to run back toward the agency, hoping it wouldn't be too late.
Atsushi ran through the entrance and climbed the stairs as quickly as possible.
"Stop!" he yelled, but then he saw the leader of the Black Lizards getting tossed by Kunikida, who didn't even look half-phased. The elderly man hit the floor hard.
Atsushi then saw Yosano kicking a man and you flinging one of the men over your shoulder, letting the man fall into the pile made by Kenji, who then sat on them and caught the machine gun that flew out of the man's hand.
Atsushi was stunned.
After dealing with the rest, Kunikida began angrily writing down all the costs it would take to repair the office and everything that got broken by the raid. Atsushi was still standing confused at the doorway.
"Using machine guns for a raid was a little over the top. It's your turn to go around the neighborhood with apologies and gifts, Kunikida, " Yosano said.
"Is this the Port Mafia squad said to be on par with special ops?" Kenji questioned. "They are? I thought they were just an ordinary gang," you asked while looking down at all the unconscious men.
Atsushi looked pale.
"Kunikida, what shall we do with them?" Kenji asked enthusiastically.
"Throw them out the window," Kunikida replied. "(Name) help him since you broke the windows," he added. "Well, sorry if my whistle saved you from getting shot!" you snapped at him while dragging the unconscious men to the window with Kenji.
Atsushi just watched as you all began cleaning the place. You glanced at him after Kunikida scolded him for wandering off and noticed the tears running down his cheeks. "Atsushi, are you okay?" you asked, and he was startled when all of you looked at him. "What? Are you crying?" Kunikida asked. "No, I'm not!" Atsushi turned away. "Yes, you are," Kunikida said. Atsushi dried his tears. "No! I'm not!" he said back.
"Just look at you. You're so typical for your generation. Even when given a job, you just go off and play without permission. You cry if anyone gives you much a word of criticism," Kunikida boasted. You hit him on the side with your elbow. "Shut it! It's been an eventful day. Let him cry his stress out," you said.
"That's not what this is about!" Atsushi said, flustered.
After cleaning up the agency and helping Kunikida getting the replacements for the broken furniture, and having another lecture on using your ability safely. You know you can't control the effects of your whistle, but there's no big reason to get scolded about it.
You walk to your dorm, feeling tired and ready to hit the bed. You stopped when you saw Atsushi sitting on the garden bench. He had a gray cloud above his head because his eyes seemed to be looking at nothing, and he looked like he was deep in thought, so you decided to walk up to him.
"Hey, Atsushi," you said. "Oh, hi, (Name)," he nearly jumped. "Are you having a hard time sleeping?" you asked. "No! It's just...." Atsushi struggled to find the words. "I thought something really terrible was going to happen to all of you, but it seemed all things turned out well in the end," he looked away. "Is that why you tried to leave the agency? To keep the Port Mafia from harming us?" you questioned. "I... !" Atsushi looked at you shocked. "It's okay, Atsushi. You tried to protect us from harm," you smiled but then looked serious, "But you should know not to make deals with anyone from the Port Mafia. They always have a dirty card in their sleeves. You can't trust them to be honest and fair," you said.
"I see... I keep that in mind," Atsushi said. "And remember, we are a lot more tougher than we look," you smiled. "I believe you... you did throw those men out of the window," he chuckled nervously.
"By the way... I heard the whistle Kunikida mentioned. Was that you?" Atsushi asked. "Yeah, I'm able to use my ability through different instruments. I use the whistle to stun my opponent whenever I'm in a dangerous situation," you explained while holding the whistle around your neck. "It's technically my version of a stun gun," you grinned.
"Oh," Atsushi said thoughtfully. You then had an idea. "Hey, would you like to see me use my ability to its fullest? To help you cheer up?" you asked. "I…I don't want to bother you anymore as I have today, even though others have said your ability is lovely," he said. "I don't mind. Wait here for a moment," you said and ran to your dorm room.
Atsushi waited, curious and eager to see what you were going to do. He then watched as you came back, holding a violin.
“Music often helps me calm down. Hopefully, I can do the same for you,” you said as you laid the violin on your shoulder and began moving the bow against the strings. A tender yet vibrant sound fills the air as you start to play.
Atsushi watched you in wonder as the pleasant tune took the silence.
As your fingers glide across the fingerboard, the enchanting melody flows from your violin, coaxing the night to life. Atsushi watched in awe as the flowers responded to the music, their petals unfurling in a graceful dance, defying the darkness. It was a spectacle that left him breathless.
The fragrance of blossoms hung in the air, mingling with the ethereal notes of your song. Atsushi's mind drifted to cherished memories of his orphanage days, where he'd lose himself in books and wander freely through the moonlit woods. In that moment, those long-lost joys flooded his senses, and he was filled with an overwhelming sense of calm and bliss.
His eyes were then drawn to a gentle radiance emanating from your violin's strings as if he were basking in the embrace of a loving light. The weight of past sorrows and heavy thoughts dissolved into nothingness, replaced by a profound feeling of security and contentment. Joy bubbled up within him like a hidden spring. It was as though, through the music, he could discern the very essence of your emotions.
Atsushi now understood why the others considered your playing magical. And for a moment, he had a hint of recognition toward your song, like he had heard it before.
Atsushi didn’t dare to bother you, nor did he want the song to end, so he eagerly enjoyed the music created by your hand. After playing for minutes, you came to an end.
“That was really lovely, (Name)!” Atsushi smiled. “It felt like all the bad things that happened just washed away from my mind,” he explained. “Well, that’s what I can do. Even the flowers of this garden bloom even though they’re supposed to be sleeping at night,” you glanced at the flowers that had opened their buds. “I can do different things with different songs, but I like this the best because it tickles your fondest memories,” you smiled at Atsushi.
“It’s not perhaps the most useful ability in our line of work, but it helps us cheer up during our bad days,” you stated. Atsushi smiled. “I believe that’s why it's more useful than you think,” he said, making you look at him surprised. You then chuckled.
“If I can ask? What is your ability called?” Atsushi asked. “Well… I didn’t have a name for it until I joined the agency. I also wasn’t good at naming things, so I allowed our friends to come up with a name…“ you said, “They called it ‘The Outworld Melodia’”
“They said it's because my music sounds out of this world. A cheeky little name if you ask me,” you chuckled. Atsushi grinned along, then felt a bit nervous. “Uhm…” he started, feeling even more nervous when you stared at him. “Can I ask you to play another song?” he finally asked.
“Of course,” you smiled and laid the violin on your shoulder again. Atsushi smiled and listened as you started to play another song. You two spent time together beneath the moonlight, filled with songs and flowers.

BSD S5E2 thoughts
i am so late for this i apologise. but the episode was so not a letdown, it really meets my expectations. the reason why i'm starting on e2 and not e1 because e1 was more of setting the scene and picking up where they had left off. e2 is where the plot thickens and intensifies. plus, ranpo had a lot of screen time in this, and alas, i'm a simp for him.
DISCLAIMERS: this is not spoiler free, so if you haven't watched it yet, continue at your own discretion. also, don't attack me if we don't share the same opinions and views. this is just my thoughts. lower case intended.
"TURNS OUT YOU'RE QUITE THE IDIOT TOO."
Tumblr media
one of the scenes that strikes me most is the car ride scene where minoura, the officer who ranpo interacts often during cases over the years, drives him to a safer location after freeing him from captivity. during this, minoura seems to be in a bit of a frenzy, while ranpo relaxes with a smile on his face that has been there since minoura arrived. (he's so adorable jdfhiasu) we all know that ranpo is incredibly intelligent, and could deduce people's motives and future actions. however, when minoura asks him whether he knew that some of the officers would trust his righteousness and intellect, and would therefore risk their lives to save him, ranpo admits that he did not know whether they believe him. during the whole time, he was not expecting to be saved, yet he was and realises how many people actually trusts him to the point of sticking their own heads out for him. imagine the amount of love and gratefulness he must have felt from this. i'm really glad that ranpo is reminded how precious he is to everyone, like he has that reassurance that he is reliable. this is also probably the reason why he could not stop smiling when he was rescued. AND HIS GIGGLE IN THE END I'M TEARING UP.
"ALL I'LL DO IS TRUST, BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT SAID QUITE SIMPLY 'I TRUST FUKUCHI'."
Tumblr media
y'all i'm not gonna lie, this scene made me love him so much more, and it's saying a lot because i love him tons already. the whole scene where he tries to persuade fukuchi to help ADA capture the page from kamui really shows the kind of role fukuzawa plays in ranpo's life. i think we can all agree that fukuzawa is a dad to ranpo, right? he took care of ranpo since his teen years, introduce to him the idea of his unusual intelligence being his special ability, gave him a job, and created a family for him aka ADA. as i said before, we know ranpo is smart enough to guess what fukuchi would do and manipulate his decisions, and he himself admitted that. but he didn't. all because he respected, looked up to, and ultimately TRUST fukuzawa. he knows how much fukuchi means to his 'dad' as a friend, and wants to respect that, at the cost of ADA. ranpo even gets down on one knee and say that he trusts him too. (don't mind me, but that shot of ranpo that i attached under the quote is so fine. is it just me?) that's why i was pissed as hell when ranpo found out that fukuchi is kamui. my boy was devoted to his father and THIS is what he gets.
"SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, PLEASE, FIGHT ALONGSIDE ME."

this is great content for atsushi x akutagawa shippers. the way i was chanting akutagawa's name, waiting for him to appear, and then scream when he did. was choosing akutagawa to help atsushi at his lowest moment a mere coincidence? i think not. asagiri knows what he's doing. context is, if you don't know, ranpo deduced that kamui is fukuchi, and of course was right. luckily, ranpo managed to escape, but unfortunately for atsushi, he couldn't, knowing fukuchi can easily catch up to him, and leaving him with no choice but to fight him. but atsushi knows that fukuchi is a much greater fighter than he is, and starts to get scared. scared because he was alone in this battle. and we know that he has ptsd from his orphanage days. so he begs to the universe to give him an ally, and boy, did the universe choose well. akutagawa being there is like a knight in shining armour moment. this is quite straightforward so i don't have to explain so much. let's lose our minds together over this.
HIGHLIGHTS
ranpo pushing kunikida to atsushi when he was about to be hugged like BOY JUST ACCEPT SOME AFFECTION
kyouka saying that she was trying to hold herself back from hugging ranpo, kunikida and yosano. SOMEONE HUG HER FOR GOODNESS' SAKE
when yosano asks ranpo what he will do, he replies, "what do you think? i'm doing the funnest part of the job." cut to him showing up again in front of the fukuchi with a "heya, i'm that terrorist everyone's talking about." he's so chaotic, i love it.
fukuchi and ranpo interacting like uncle and nephew respectively for a while. that was cute. AND RANPO CASUALLY EXPOSING FUKUCHI'S BEHAVIOUR AT ADA'S OPENING CEREMONY
the fact that ranpo has a novel written by poe to use as an escape route is something i'll never get over. ranpo and poe >>>>

CAR SEX!
Tumblr media
ꔮ cw: semi-public sex, vaginal sex, riding, creampie, 18+ minors DNI!
ꔮ pairing: dazai x afab reader
ꔮ wc: 3.6k
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure when you and Dazai became a thing, couldn’t quite pinpoint an exact moment or words said that indicated the change in your relationship. How you went from complete strangers to friendly coworkers who joked around every once in a while, to whatever you were now. Nonetheless, you were currently on his lap in the front seat of his car, moaning his name as he pressed hungry kisses all over your neck and chest.
You had felt some sort of shift that morning when you first walked through the door into the office, running just slightly late as usual. Everything else was the same: Kunikida writing furiously in his ideals notebook, Ranpo chewing loudly on a sweet, Atsushi having a meltdown about God knows what, but Dazai seemed different. He usually welcomed you with a blinding, ear-to-ear smile and waved from his desk, announcing your name in excitement as if you didn’t walk through that same door every single day. It became a little moment you looked forward to, alongside all of your other interactions with him. But today, he looked up from his computer and stared at you intensely, eyes dark and lips pursed. It was so jarring you completely missed Junichiro greet you and offer some pastries he picked up that morning.
“Uh, hello?” he asked, waving a hand in front of your face. You startled and laughed suddenly.
“Oh! Uh-”
“Are you okay?” His head cocked to the side, eyebrows furrowed.
“Yeah! I’m totally fine,” you said as you turned towards him, grabbing a pastry from the box with a small thanks.
You headed over to your desk, attempting to convince yourself he was just having a bad morning, or maybe he was just pissed about whatever paperwork Kunikida was blackmailing him into doing. That was actually a very likely scenario. But more than anything, you tried to convince yourself to stop caring this deeply about Dazai and his reactions towards you in the first place. The two of you had nothing even remotely serious going on, only just ambiguous flirting and one or two drunken kisses. He never quite seemed to remember those, but you always did. And as much as you didn’t want to, as much as you resisted, you couldn’t help yourself from falling for him. You could never get those brown eyes or his silky, wavy hair out of your head no matter how hard you tried. And you dreamed of his slim hands and long fingers more than you would ever care to admit.
But his mood never lifted, even as the day went on. It was a slow day at the agency, pretty much everyone confined to their desks finishing reports and discussing matters over the phone, with Kunikida occasionally barking at Atsushi to run some miniscule errand. On days like these, Dazai would usually be bouncing off the walls and driving everyone insane for his own personal entertainment. Yet he continued to sit at his desk in silence. Occasionally he would lift his head only to set his eyes on you with an expression you couldn’t read, tapping his fingers on the papers in front of him. You really tried your best to ignore it, push it out of your head and complete your needed tasks, but you just could not stop thinking about it. Why was he acting like this? Where was the normal Dazai?
It wasn’t until much later in the day that things began to change. Atsushi had been assigned yet another frivolous task, hand-delivering a document to a judge that definitely could’ve been faxed or emailed, and he had asked Kunikida if you could come along.
“I get so bored and lonely, can I please take someone with me?” he begged, slouched over in exhaust. His eyes wander over to you. “Oh! (y/n), it doesn’t look like you’re too busy, do you want to tag along?”
“Sure,” you said with a smile. You didn’t have much left to do and really felt like you could use some fresh air, but also really needed to escape Dazai’s piercing stare.
But before Kunikida could okay it, Dazai stood up abruptly, kicking his chair back. Everyone was used to Dazai making a scene, but right now all eyes were on him.
“I just remembered a very important… meeting I have to discuss things with Akutagawa, and I really need (y/n)’s ability.”
“Oh?” Kunikida remarked, raising an eyebrow. “This is the first I’m hearing of this.”
“That’s because it’s last-minute… and confidential. But I need (y/n).”
You stared at him in bewilderment, as this was also the first time you were hearing of this. Why the hell was he meeting with Akutagawa, and what could he possibly need your ability for? You really hoped this wasn’t about to turn into a fight of some sort; that was the last thing you needed to deal with today.
He strode over to your desk and grabbed your wrist, yanking you out of your seat, and began dragging you towards the door.
“Dazai, what the hell?” you whispered, not wanting to turn this into even more of a scene. Everyone was still staring.
He said nothing, didn’t even look at you until he had dragged you all the way to the stairwell, despite your protests. Once the door slammed shut behind you two, he let go of your wrist and stared at you intensely.
“What the-”
He cut you off mid-sentence, pushing you against the wall and kissing you. This only increased your confusion, but you soon melted into the kiss. You could never be immune to Dazai’s touch. He used both hands to cup your cheeks, caressing your skin softly as he deepened the kiss. You felt every ounce of confusion, frustration, and anxiety drain from your body as you let yourself just exist in the moment.
He soon pulled away but kept his hands on your cheeks, rubbing gentle circles but saying nothing. You lifted your hand up to rest it on his wrist. His eyes finally met yours as he took a deep breath.
“You’ve been on my mind for weeks- no, months,” he admits, voice low. “You are all I think about.”
You couldn’t help but gasp at that. You were entirely under the impression that he saw you as nothing more than a funny acquaintance, someone he could joke with at work to pass the time and ease the tensions. You had never allowed yourself to truly believe it was, or could be, anything more.
Dazai continues. “I guess I just got… fed up. I felt like I was already at my breaking point this morning, then seeing you walk in tipped me over the edge. I tried to contain myself, but I just can’t do it anymore.”
You stayed silent, at a complete loss for words.
“How do you feel about that?” he asked.
“I- well, I-,” It felt like your brain was short circuiting. You finally landed on, “That makes me happy.”
Dazai chuckles softly, petting your hair.
“You’ve always had quite the way with words.”
You swatted his hands away but laughed, eyes pointed towards the ground. You had never imagined this situation actually happening and were completely unprepared. It never felt like a real possibility that Dazai would ever reciprocate.
“Can I kiss you again?” he asks.
You look back up at Dazai, into his dark eyes that gleamed, and nodded. He smirked before leaning over you again and pressing his lips to yours. His hands rested on your hips this time, gently playing with the fabric of your dress. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and stood on your toes so you could have better access, and you could feel him smile into the kiss as his hands tightened around your waist. He moved his lips to pepper kisses down your neck, making you laugh.
“Dazai, is there actually a meeting with Akutagawa?”
“Nope,” he says, gently nibbling at your neck. You had to hold back a moan.
He crowded closer into your space, pressing you harder against the wall and sliding a leg in between your thighs. You couldn’t help the deep noise that rose from your throat. Your fingers played with the hair at the nape of his neck, twirling it gently. It was so soft and thick; you were honestly a little jealous. He went from sensually biting and kissing across your jaw to licking you, making you cackle. There was no scenario where Dazai could stay serious for more than ten minutes. You bit the tip of his nose, and his goofy smile brought you more happiness than you would ever admit. You still had no idea whether he was fond of you in the same way, but right then was not the time to think about that. You knew you just needed to live in the moment, cherish each kiss, every touch and commit them to memory.
“Come with me,” Dazai whispered, grabbing your wrist once again and led you down the stairs, and you went willingly this time.
He took you all the way down to the parking garage and towards his car, and you started to wonder if there actually was some sort of meeting you were attending. He unlocked the doors before falling into the driver’s seat and pulling you on top of him. You settled on top of Dazai with an oof and he chuckles, yanking the door closed. You never really were known for your gracefulness.
“Why here?” you asked.
“Where else do you propose, Kunikida’s desk? Akiko’s bloody locker?”
“The bed Naomi and Junichiro probably share.” Dazai winced but smiled.
Pulling you closer towards him so you were chest to chest, you braced your thighs around him and pressed your forehead against his. Being right on top of him meant you could feel him getting hard, seriously straining against the fabric of his khakis. You smiled devilishly as you began grinding your hips down to create friction, and he hissed.
“Fuck (y/n),” he groaned as he dug his fingers deep into the back of your thighs.
You pressed your lips against his again, missing the feeling much more than you probably should’ve. He kissed back with passion, slipping his tongue in your mouth. It was wet and messy, and saliva was dripping down your chin, but it was so much better than you had every dreamt. And you dreamt a lot. He bites your bottom lip and drags it between his teeth gently. Your hands had found their way back into his hair and gripped tightly with every move that made you jump. The groan it pulled from him each time was a nice side effect.
Dazai removed one hand from your thigh to palm your breast, massaging it gently. You inhaled sharply – this was farther than the two of you had ever gone before, but it was a very welcome change. Your hand met his and encouraged him to grasp harder. His eyes meet yours, eyebrows raised as if to ask permission. You nodded and both of you smiled as he ducked his head down to kiss your chest, trailing down slowly. When he got to the neckline of your dress, he looked up at you again. You ripped off your dress without a second thought, left only in a bra and panties.
“You are so beautiful,” he breathed, voice almost in awe. You averted your eyes and blushed. Dazai took your chin in his hand, so you had to look at him. “I’m being serious. You are so beautiful, (y/n).” His use of your name made you blush even brighter red, but you mumble a thank you. It wasn’t the first time you had heard that, but it was the first time you believed it.
With better access he continued working at your chest, pulling down your bra strips with your permission. He kissed your breast, making his way down until he reached the center. He pulled your nipple into his mouth, and you couldn’t hold back from moaning dramatically. The noise only seemed to encourage Dazai more; he alternated between biting at and gently kissing the sensitive area and you could not get enough.
As he switched his attention to your other breast, you began working at untying his tie, but somehow got it stuck.
“Uh… Dazai.”
He pulled back and looked down to see the tangled mess you had managed to create out of his simple tie.
“That’s talent, truly. I’m jealous,” he deadpans. You gasped and swatted at his head, and he couldn’t keep from laughing.
He paused to do his best to untangle the tie, and you took this time to take in the man you were currently on top of. His hair, his perfect skin, the stupid bandages wrapped around the base of his neck. The way he stuck out his tongue just a little in concentration as he worked at the tie. You adored him too much. Far too much.
Eventually he managed to free himself, and you searched his eyes for permission to unbutton his shirt. With a nod, your fingers worked diligently to pull each button out of his loop, and he helped to pull it off his body and throw it into the passenger seat. You ran your fingers delicately over the bandages and you laugh to yourself, able to hear Kunikida calling him a suicidal maniac! in your head. His eyes followed your hand as you pulled it back to yourself.
“I can take them off, if you want,” he offered.
“You really don’t have to, it’s okay, Dazai. I promise.”
He rolled his eyes affectionately before unwrapping the long stretch of bandages, and you briefly wondered how many rolls he went through each week. Once they were removed you touched the bare skin, just as soft and smooth as his cheeks.
You unhooked and discarded your bra, so you were now bare chest to chest, and it was far more intimate than you were prepared for.
He smiled before mouthing at your neck again as you palmed him through his pants. The pressure pulled a low grumble from his throat, encouraging you to massage harder. He made quick work of undoing his belt and shimmying his pants off. It was only a little funny.
Things were getting faster and more intense, and your head was spinning, but you wanted this so much. You reached your hand down and take his cock into your hand. Feeling how hard he was without having done much more than making out made you feel smug. His head fell back hard against the headrest as you pumped your hand, taking in a breath sharply. At the same time his hand wandered in between your legs, barely grazing the fabric of your panties. You wanted more, needed more, so you grinded down on his hand. He looks up at you.
“More?” he asked. You nod fiercely.
He only began rubbing lazy circles around your clit over your panties, clearly teasing you. You whined, making him smile an evil smile. He pushed his hand into your panties and actually began massaging your clit, pulling an even louder wine from you. After a bit his fingers wandered over to your hole and pushed inside you. You gasped and clenched around him. Absolutely no one’s hands were like his.
“You’re so fucking wet,” he groaned.
Soon, he brought his mouth to your ear.
“Can I fuck you?” Dazai whispered. You shuddered, a wave of desire crashing over you.
“Please.”
He had that glint in his eye that was so Dazai, and you were mesmerized.
He pulled your panties to the side, not even bothering to pull them off, and checked with you one last time before lining himself up. You sunk down onto his cock and nearly screamed, having to bite the meat of his shoulder so that the entire building couldn’t hear you. It burned but felt so good that you saw stars. You were so caught up in yourself you almost missed the ungodly face Dazai was making. You smiled and kissed his wide-open mouth.
He gave you a moment to adjust before helping you lift up and fall down on him again, and before long you fell into a steady rhythm. You had your arms wrapped around his neck tightly, nails digging into the skin of his back. Both of your moans and wet sounds filled the small car as you rode him, quickly becoming obsessed with the feeling of being completely filled by him. His mouth found your chest again and started to suck at your nipple, and this paired with him fucking you was almost too much to handle. He yanked off the necklace hanging around your neck, muttering something about it being in his way. You could not have cared less about that necklace in that moment.
Every single one of your nerve endings felt like they were on fire as he fucked you. He used his long fingers to pull your cheeks apart to give him better access so he could push his cock harder into you. You screamed and yanked at his hair, overwhelmed with the feeling.
“Dazai,” you moaned, the pitch of your voice wavering with the motion.
“Call me Osamu,” he whispered, voice deep and guttural. He pulled you down particularly hard on him then, and you were no longer in control of the noises you were making.
“Fuck- Osamu.” His first name felt unnatural yet so right in your mouth, and soon you couldn’t help but moan it over and over again.
He noticed you had started to get tired riding him, so he stilled your hips with his hands and began thrusting into you. This change in motion had him fucking into you in just the right spot. You half-screamed half-moaned as he picked up the pace, his fingers pressing deep into the soft skin of your ass.
You realized it had been a while since you had kissed, so you leaned back over to press a messy, wet kiss to the side of his mouth. Your precision skills weren’t exactly at their best then. Osamu laughed and kissed you back, clearly quite good at multitasking.
Adding on to the multitasking, his hand finds your clit and began rubbing circles. Your breath hitched as he was hitting it just right. The sensation radiated to the tips of your fingers and toes, and it wasn’t long before you hit your orgasm, screaming his name.
You guessed he was probably getting close too, as he had started thrusting into you with record speed, and you could barely catch your breath.
“Fuck, I’m so fucking close,” Osamu hissed. You smiled before leaning close to his ear.
“Come inside me,” you whispered. Osamu’s eyes went wide at that.
“Are you- sure?” he asked, breathless.
“Positive.”
He didn’t need any more encouragement after that. He pulled you back down onto his lap hard to still you as he came inside you. You peppered kisses down his neck as he moaned, a sound you only ever thought you’d hear in your dirty dreams. You could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
Once he came down, he pulled himself out, but you remained in your spot on his lap with your arms around his neck and his around your waist. Nothing was said as you both tried to catch your breath.
“That was-”
“-so good,” Osamu finished for you.
You checked the watch on your wrist, deducing it likely had been as much time as the supposed meeting would’ve taken. There was comfortable silence as you both redressed, barring Osamu whining about how badly you fucked up his tie. You just laughed as you pulled your dress back over your head and did your best to fix your hair into a relatively presentable state. He looked at you endearingly as you delicately wrapped his bandages back around his neck, which also conveniently covered the bruises you had accidentally left.
As you walked back towards the building, Osamu took your hand in his and laced your fingers together, smiling wordlessly. Your face burned but the simple gesture made your heart soar and gave you some hope. That maybe this was more than just sex.
He dropped your hand delicately before you got to the Agency office, winking at you.
He busted the door open with his foot and threw his hands up, clearly turning his Dazai back on.
“We have prevailed, the Port Mafia have been defeated!” he announced as you trailed behind him, rolling your eyes.
Kunikida looked over at you with a glare. “That meeting took you three minutes and 24 seconds too long,” he grumbled, snapping his notebook shut.
Just then Kenji is running over to you, looking distressed.
“Oh no (y/n), did Akutagawa get you bad?” he asked.
You stared at him, completely bewildered.
“Why would you think that?”
“Your necklace is gone!” he exclaimed, pointing to where the jewelry you always wore should’ve been. “Akutagawa must’ve stolen it from you!”
Your eyes widened as you realized, suddenly remembering Dazai ripping it off your neck for ‘better access.’ You completely forgot to grab it.
You heard Dazai cackling in the background from where he had returned to his spot, feet crossed on top of the desk.
“You’re damn right, Kenji. We gotta get that evil bastard back for that,” he exclaims, holding a fist in the air.
You and Kunikida groan in unison. At least Dazai was back to normal.

Hello! Can I just say, how much I love you writing and such, it’s just perfect like I mean it
But could I possibly have what different BSD characters (dazai etc etc) would do to like help their s/o and such who has gotten out of surgery and in pain? Like how they would help etc.
Thank you so much! Take your time with this and remember to stay hydrated and all that! :)
a/n: tysm anon ily!! i got ur other ask too and, good luck with ur surgery!! i promise everything will be ok <33 picked some of the characters that i thought would be the best for this :0 also, thank u all for 1.6k??!?! was just celebrating 1.5 a week ago?!? plz ily all sm
warnings: surgery, descriptions of pain, but tons of fluff
(Dazai, Yosano, Ranpo) When Their S/O Gets Out of Surgery
Tumblr media
Dazai
so first of all, dazai stayed with you for the entirety of the hospital visit
from the consultation, to the surgery itself, to the recovery afterwards
he wasn't allowed in the room during the operation but stayed in the waiting room (probably blowing up your phone with memes for you to see when you woke up)
speaking of when you wake up, expect to see this mfs face the second you open your eyes
hovering over you like (•◡•)
goes all "good morning belladonna~" while you just stare at him like O_O because you're still loopy from the anesthesia
^he thinks it's the most adorable thing and records a video to send to the agency group chat
once the effects of the anesthesia have worn off, dazai helps you to the car and brings you home to rest
is literally so doting?? and surprisingly responsible for once
makes sure you take any medications for recovery and picks up food from ur favorite place
his heart breaks to hear you complain about the pain so he'll lay with you and hold you until it feels better <3
meanwhile you're wondering why ur phone is blowing up with messages from the agency group chat?? (dw, they're just commenting on how adorably lost you looked)
then there's the one message from kunikida that's like "they look horrified. but i would be too if dazai was the first thing i saw when i woke up" based asf
Yosano
she's literally a doctor, therefore the best one for this situation
tries to convince you to let HER do the operation?? you gotta refuse because getting cut up with her mf chainsaw sounds even worse than the surgery
despite the fact that she won't be carrying out the operation, she MAKES SURE it all goes smoothly
drives you to the hospital, checks you in, and leads you to an operation room??
you don't have to lift a finger
the other doctors are just like "....." but let her do her thing since they'd heard about her work from the agency
yosano demands to be allowed to stay in the room during the surgery and you best believe she is not denied
keeps a careful eye on every movement the surgeon makes (plz they were mad stressed)
waits by ur bedside until you wake up & holds your hand even tho you aren't conscious
once home, she is very strict with making sure you recover to 100%
deadass sets timers on ur phone to remind you to take your medication
prepares you foods that will be easy on your stomach, and only eats the same things as you so you won't feel left out
shares the latest workplace gossip to distract from the pain as well >:)
Ranpo
bro is all over the place
atsushi probably gets dragged along at one point?? since neither you nor ranpo know the directions to the hospital
once you're in the operation, he does leave the building BUT only so he can go buy a bunch of snacks for y'all to share once you wake up
literally walks in with a shopping bag overflowing
ur not supposed to be eating that stuff after but...no one's exactly looking sooooo >:)
atsushi comes back to pick y'all up and drop you off at home ofc give this man a break
let me just say!! ranpo is the BEST at distracting you from the pain
he does everything from shoving snacks in your face, to putting on five different movies, to going on little story times about past cases he solved and how great he is
bouncing from topic to topic gets BOTH of y'all tired and then you end up falling asleep snuggling or something
but we all know you guys aren't making it to work on time the next morning (if you even show up)
kunikida spam calls at like eight AM and ranpo just answers like "SHUT THEBFUCK UP" before hanging up so you can keep sleeping <33

bad day? [edogawa ranpo x reader]
i had a bad day yall know what that means! this time w ranpo my love
Tumblr media
you never realized it was already 7 PM until your phone started to blow up with messages from your beloved boyfriend asking to be picked up from the agency. all the blinds were shut, the lights were off and your phone was set silent (except for ranpo, of course, you knew he'd ask for you to get him sooner or later.) the entire time since you've arrived home.
sitting up, you feel your head ache in every way possible and your eyes burn causing you to shut them closed. definitely, you're in no condition to even drive, let alone walk and get up, but your wonderful, smart intelligent boyfriend needed his ride back home because if he did it himself, he might end up in someone else's home.
soon enough, your pained trance was interrupted by your phone's obnoxious ringtone (which ranpo set for his ringtone).
"hey, y/n !! where are you? i'm waiting y'know!!" you hear your beloved's loud and cheery voice out of your phone, which you would usually enjoy hearing, but right now it made your head ache more.
"yeah... yeah i'm coming.."
it took you five minutes contemplating if you trust your ranpo well enough to walk home by himself, 10 minutes realizing that even if you trust your ever-charismatic boyfriend, you dont trust anyone else, and seven minutes to get up and out the door. you decided to walk instead of taking your car, if you cant even properly maneuver yourself on your feet, what more if you use a car with a living, breathing passenger?
while walking to the agency, slumped over and tired, you glance over at an overly lit bar that seemed to be packed to the brim. you could spot a few familiar faces– people from your classes. they seem to be celebrating, you thought, scoffing bitterly as you continue your slow descent.
you could feel tears welling up in your eyes, though you can’t tell if you’re crying because of the overwhelming pain in your head or the overwhelming pain in your heart. despite that, you just rub it out and hold it back in.
i was supposed to be there, you think back to the bar you just passed moments ago. today was your last finals exam and you overheard many students wanting to either party their ass off or sleep for 72 hours. whatever it was they choose, you couldn't do either. you hadn't been satisfied with your test scores and this last one just hit it out of the park.
no matter how hard you tried, there never seemed to be anything great about anything you do. besides everyone else, you were just average. you couldn't turn into a tiger, you couldn't nullify abilities, you couldn't manifest an object from writing it on a notebook, you couldn't deduce murder mysteries, the list goes on. of course, you always knew someone out there would be better than you, so you thrived to become someone better for yourself, but being surrounded by so many people who you would do anything to become, it's been harder.
and then of course, there's your lovely boyfriend, waving his hand frantically as he spots you walking up to the agency's building. you could only manage a small wave, walking up to him and kunikida, who seemed to accompany ranpo while waiting for you.
"it usually takes you 15 minutes to get here, but today it took you 25 minutes," kunikida said, but when he saw the state you were in, he decided not to push your tardiness any further, "i'll be on my way. please take care of ranpo-san on your way home."
you bow to the blond man before facing ranpo, "let's go home?"
"lead the way!"
-
the walk home was unusually quiet, but you appreciated it a lot. he didn't pry when he saw your gaze lingering on the bar you passed earlier, and he didn't ask why you just plopped down on the sofa without a second thought.
a few moments later, you feel him nudging you to scoot over. you lazily followed and felt him lay down beside you, nuzzling his face in the crook of your neck.
“ranpo, it’s kinda cramped here..”
“don’t care. let's stay here.”
you could only hum in response, slowly threading your fingers in his hair. usually around this time, he would be asking his dinner or maybe even a bath if it was a rather grueling day, but instead he chose to fit himself with you on a small couch while you play with his hair.
“do you remember that one case i told you about? the bear brook murders?”
“the international one? yeah i remember a bit..”
“it took them 36 years to identify the 3 victims and a suspect. they haven’t even solved the case.”
“you would’ve known in 36 seconds, though.”
“of course i would know! i’m better than all of the detectives combined!” he even raises his head to prove his point, making you giggle a bit and pat his head.
he proceeds to softly rub your cheek with his thumb, making you open your eyes to meet his. his bright green eyes always make you melt subconsciously, knowing that he rarely ever opens his eyes.
“what i’m trying to say is,” he starts, holding both of your cheeks this time, “it took them such a long time to make great things, people take even more than 36 years to create something extraordinary,
it may not be as fast as me solving a case or people passing their finals,” you sigh, leaning into his touch, “whether it takes one minute or 36 decades, you can still do something great and i'll still be proud of you.”
he wipes a stray tear falling from your eye, giggling when you scrunch your nose in response. you could only nod at him quietly, of course he knows what happened, and you’re so glad that he didn’t ask you what was wrong and just spoke his mind.
“not everyone can be great as me, and that really frustrates me,” he pouts, “but i’ll make an exception for you, because i know one day you might come a close second.”
you scoff playfully at him, swatting his hands away from your cheeks, “is that supposed to be a compliment?”
“it is! no one comes second to me, not even that Sherlock Shmerlock you keep talking to me about..”
he places his hands around your waist now, positioning back to where he was previously.
“you’ll do great things, y/n, more than just acing a finals exam.”
there’s nothing else you’d rather hear.
