“D..did you just make that noise?” For Sora/Jyou
Number 20: “D-Did you just make that noise?”
Characters: Sora/Jyou. This takes place sometime during the Tri timeline. I tried to add some references to other pairings you like, so if you squint, I hope you can see them. I absolutely loved the idea of all of the Chosen in their little Halloween costumes, and had to stop myself around 1500 words because I was getting way too excited. Also, I apologize for the abrupt ending!
Send me a prompt if you’d like!
In retrospect, maybe encouraging her rambunctious group of friends to go to a haunted house on Halloween may not have been the best idea she’s ever had, but Takenouchi Sora refused to admit defeat. The past week had been stressful, filled with exams, sports tournaments, and holiday festivities. The group was due for some relaxation.
As Sora watched Daisuke and Iori competitively inhale their second yakitori, she felt more like a mother hen tending to her chicks than a high schooler. “Hey, guys!” she called, attempting to gather the attention of at least two of their collective braincells. Any response she might have received would have been lost in the throngs of people that crowded the waterfront. Festival tents lined the shore, the smells of fried food and pumpkin spice wafted through the air.
Each second of silence only added to her annoyance. She had worked endlessly for days to plan this get together, and it seemed that no one was taking it seriously. “Did you need something, Sora-san?” A small squeak escaped her throat as her body whipped around in surprise. The skirt of her devil costume swayed around her hips as she tried to regain control of her breathing.
“Oh, it’s you, Jyou-senpai.” She managed, heart pounding in her chest. A Bakemon costume (hand crafted by Mimi) hung off his thin frame, casting grueling shadows across his cheekbones. The sight reminded her of their first encounter with the ghost-like creatures, all wrapped up and ready for a sacrifice.
Instead of responding, the gentleman in question smiled a toothless grin. The soft glow of the fairy lights illuminated dark blue eyes as they scanned the crowd for his friends. “You know, everyone looks like they’re having fun.”
From their position on the outskirts of the festival grounds, Sora could make out Mimi’s hair as the girl mercilessly teased Koushiro. Her cat costume left little to the imagination, and Koushiro’s pink cheeks contrasted against his blue wizard robes.
Sora’s tension eased when her eyes landed on a blonde vampire and his mummified friend chatting amiably next to a noodle cart, toothy grins gleaming under the lights. It always soothed her worries when those two boys managed to get along. Their siblings, ever the rowdy pair, competed head-to-head in a heated battle for dominance: dart throwing. At stake? A month supply of strawberry ice cream for the girl in the Wizardmon-inspired ensemble and a kiss on the cheek for a smaller, blonder vampire. Sora laughed lightly as Takeru’s last swing wedged itself in the bullseye and Hikari’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Even if it wasn’t Miyako’s slightly off-key voice that filtered through the karaoke speakers, she would have been easy enough to find in her full Sailor Moon cosplay. Ken had managed to slip away and join Iori and Daisuke in their quest to consume any meat that was wedged onto a stick. They looked darling, Sora decided, dressed as Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.
“I guess. I just wanted everyone to go to the haunted house together. What’s the point of planning this get together if we all aren’t, you know, getting together?” Punctuating question with a sigh, her shoulders slumped forward. “But,” she continued, “they all look happy enough, so it’s okay.”
Jyou opened his mouth to speak, but quickly shut it. Sora’s hands fiddled with the plastic horns nestled in her hair. Her eyes flicked towards her navy-haired friend as he cleared his throat nervously. “Well, just because they won’t go doesn’t mean we can’t.”
Her rejection died in her throat when her eyes settled on his hidden smile and flushed cheeks. “Jyou-senpai, you don’t have to sacrifice your night to entertain me. I’ll be fine. Besides, I think Koushiro-san might spontaneously combust if Mimi-chan tries to feed him again.”
In an uncharacteristic act of boldness, his slender fingers wrapped themselves around her wrist. “C’mon,” he said, turning his neck to meet her eyes, “You need to live a little.” Sora allowed him to tug her down the boardwalk and towards the old courthouse. If the twisted, bloody smiles of the clowns weren’t enough to double the young girl’s heart rate, the shrill, primal screams spilling out into the October air were.
If the twitch of Jyou’s hand on her wrist was any indication, he was becoming apprehensive as well. His smile never wavered, nor did his grip on her. Before Sora could decide whether or not to kindly remove his fingers, the pair were shoved in a group of Love Live! Idols and various farm animals. “Welcome to the House of Terror!” gritted the clown from before, his pungent odor testing the limits of the young girl’s gag reflex. His mouth opened once more, but whatever advice he was about to give them was drowned out by the screeching of the entrance erupting wildly on its hinges.
“Right this way, my pretties.” an old woman crooned from the building, voice reminiscent of branches scratching against a window. Sora shivered, but allowed Jyou and some stranger dressed as a rooster to push her along.
Her tension eased once the group left the corrupt clown outside. The hallway they entered was eerie, a black light illuminating the fabric of Jyou’s costume. One of the school idols screamed as an arm reached out from behind a blood-splattered curtain to caress her. Sora pressed herself closer to her companion. Wordlessly, his fingers reached down to grab her own, giving her palm what Sora assumed was supposed to be a reassuring squeeze. If his hands hadn’t of been so sweaty, she might have been comforted.
The black sheets opened into a large room filled to the brim with children. Dismembered baby dolls littered the ground, limbs hanging from the rafters above. The Chosen of Love smoothed down her pleated skirt, eyes avoiding the creature in the corner. A young girl, no older that thirteen, sat alone on the far side of the room. Dressed in a simple white gown, the child chanting something, but her voice was so low and haunting that Sora couldn’t make it out. Water dripped from her dark hair, and her lips were painted sea-sickening blue.
A couple dressed as cows made a run for the door on the other end of the room, utters quaking in fear. Their hooves slipped on a severed baby arm, and their spots went flying. Jyou tensed, the crunch he heard after the fall not boding well with his first-aid training. Sora looked around helplessly as the pair of utters still hadn’t gotten back up. ‘Oh, gods.’ she thought, stomach anxiously twisting itself into knots.
The group’s guide had suddenly disappeared.
“D-Did you just make that noise?” Jyou whispered into her ear. For a second, the red-haired girl had to convince herself that the shiver she felt was a result from the chilly atmosphere, and not the fact that his lips had been that close to her skin.
In all honesty, her heart had been pounding too loudly for her to hear much of anything, but with one look at the soulless girl in the corner, she turned towards Jyou. “No, but let’s get out of here!”
Jumping over the up-turned cows and various idols, the pair ran towards the rickety door. Apparently, the staff on the other side had no idea they were expecting the next group of people to terrorize, as the bloody nurses and doctors still engaged in an intense lip lock.
“G- Gomen'nasai.” Jyou stuttered, a flush reaching his hair line. His little devil companion felt as uncomfortable as he looked. “Um,” the polyester doctor called out, “this room is occupied.” Sora made haste to drag her and Jyou away from the hormonal teenagers before he could give them The Talk. He attempted the same thing with the younger kids a few months prior, and nearly cried when they were the ones to correct him.
Red light filtered through the hazy hospital room, but Sora recognized an exit when she saw one. “This way, Jyou-senpai!” she yelled, tugging his arm behind her.
The pair burst into the warm October night, panting and sweating. It took several minutes for the pair to catch their breaths and ever longer to notice their mischievous friends staring at them.
Takeru’s laughter startled Sora, her hand flying up as if to hold her heart in her chest. As her orange eyes rose to meet mahogany, she found herself temporarily blinded by the flash of a camera. “Hmm,” Hikari mused, “this one may be cute enough to develop.”
“That’s not the only thing that’s developing.” the younger, annoying, traitorous vampire giggled out. His basketball reflexes proved useful as he dodged an attack from the little devil, pulling an amused Wizardmon behind him. “See you love birds later!” he called out cheekily, admiring his own pun.
“Get back here, you guys!”
Jyou laughed quietly beside her, the hood of his costume bunching around his shoulders. “Ah, just let them have their fun. Besides, I’m pretty sure that sound I heard was the growl of your stomach.”
Fingers still intertwined; Sora allowed her senpai to tug her towards the tents of food. On the way down, her eye caught Mimi’s. In a strange way, the well-placed wink and sly smile on her friend’s face seemed to be a cue of sorts., and Sora tightened her grip on Jyou’s hand.
“Hey, Jyou-san, how do you feel about splitting some ujikintoki?”

instead of working on any of my other projects, my gift to you all today is headcanons about what halloween costumes the gang would wear
no reader this time!
Dutch insists on hosting the party, with almost no pushback. He wanted to do a themed party at first, but then no one could agree on a theme, so he got a little huffy and let it go. He dresses up like a classic vampire with a huge cape and one of his more playful suits, covering his face in white make-up (which he doesn't seal so by the end of the night it's runny, but he looks pretty good at the start of the party) and with a pair of plastic fangs that make him a little hard to understand the entire night.
Arthur, John, Abigail, and Jack are the first to arrive, before the party actually starts, so they can help dutch set up all the decorations and make sure the food is ready. Arthur is dressed like Frankenstein('s Monster), with surpising detail on his make-up and care to the prosthetics; it also gives him an excuse to 'borrow' one of John's jackets, making himself seem even bigger as it's ill-fitting. He also uses the costume as an excuse to not actually dance, when that starts up.
Abigail and Jack are in matching costumes, with her as a witch, complete with faux spiders hanging from her hat, milky white contacts (that susan makes her take out after a few hours when her eyes start getting dry) and emerald green skin. Jack is dressed as her black cat. Inititally the costume had been purely an outfit, as Abigail didn't want to put any make-up on him, but he'd started begging when she put hers on, and he ends up with a pink little nose and black whiskers. He also picks up the habit of meowing at people
John overheard Abigail talking about her and Jack's outifts and decided he wanted to coordinate his costume as well. Unfortunately he misunderstood just what she was going for, and ends going as Harry Potter. Abigail loves it anyway.
Hosea tends to center his costumes around what Jack's interests in recent years, since he usually takes him out for a second trick-or-treating in his and Dutch's neighborhood, and this year he's been noticing all the superhero trends. Namely he ends up as an unintentionally relevant Captain America, and Arthur and Mary-Beth end up tiptoeing around bringing it up all night.
Charles had been characteristically cagey about his costume, deflecting with a shrug or a 'dunno' whenever anyone asked, but when he comes up dressed like a mummy, he doesn't make a big deal about it, like they knew already. He doesn't do the the classic 'just tp around self' thing, but instead has one of those body-suits with a bandage-pattern on, and elaborate costume jewelry. He also has thick eyeliner, flashy blue robes, and the classic king-tut headdress.
Susan shows up to the party towards the beginning in her normal clothes, heading up to Molly's part of the house after she greets everyone, a large bag in hand. When she comes down, dressed like Maleficent with her hair tucked under the headpiece, and a fake crow on her shoulder. Molly helped her with the make-up, as well as the finishing touches on her costume, but mostly she'd just wanted moral support. Brushes off compliments with a huff, and before the end of the party she's taken off most of the make-up, since she'd been getting hot
Molly doesn't come down to join things until an hour or so after they've started (a little after Susan), but when she does, she's dressed in an elaborately crafted costume as the Creature from the Black Lagoon. She'd locked herself upstairs to perfect the make-up, blasting tutorials and jenna marbles videos to help boost her confidence as she had considered, when she wasn't ready 'on time', just giving up and half-assing it, but when she is finally satisfied with the costume she looks camera-ready
Mary-Beth ends up reusing the cosplay for her self-insert-turned-oc lord of the rings character from the sci-fi convention she last attended. She's a little embarrassed at reusing it, and apologizes at first, even though it's stunning, and everyone else insists, when she mentions that it's reused, that it's very apropriate, and stunning
Someone (Sean) promised to do a two part horse costume with Kieran, but then completely forgot and Kieran ended up coming as the back end, alone. He isn't all that upset about it though, and ends up holding the costume up with a borrowed pair of suspenders, turning it into more of a satyr costume instead
Strauss, not having realized that Dutch had already picked his favorite costume, shows up as a vampire as well. He's more of an 'authetic' vampire instead of Dutch's more stereotypical look, which seems more and more cheesy as the night wears on, especially next to Strauss' and his extra ex. His outfit is close to something his canon counterpart would wear, if frillier, and he also has his fangs glued onto his teeth, as opposed to simple plastic fangs, so he's actually understandable
If you thought Simon would show up as anything but a pirate, you're kidding yourself. He does it every year, but he does a different costume instead of just reusing the same one. This year he's an 18th century quartermaster and his saber is real metal, if blunted. He's a little more jolly than usual but gets somewhat cross if people give him grief for using the same concept yet again
Sean made a big deal about not doing anything edgy like in years past, and then showed up dressed exactly like Dutch. Hair slicked back and dyed, faux facial hair and beauty mark, he even 'sneaks' into Dutch's wardrobe to borrow one of his hawaiian shirts. He swears its a compliment, but then whenever Dutch's back is turned, he's doing a bad impression, much to the gang's delight
Karen and Tilly have a more subtle matching outfit concept- Karen dressed as a slutty nurse and Tilly as her zombie patient. Tilly's fake wounds aren't as elaborate as she'd initially wanted, but they last much longer than they would have otherwise, and when she acts the part of the costume, limping and tilting her head to the side, she looks very creepy.
Lenny's costume was originally Dorian Grey, but since there isn't actually a lot of physical components to the outfit, and the story is as much abt the portrait as it is the man, he doesn't really get recognized that much. Halfway through the party he gets Arthur to go out to pick a different comstume, and comes back as Dr Frankenstein! Will spend the rest of the night making obligatory 'Frankenstein-Frankenstein's Monster' jokes and goofing off with Arthur
Sadie wasn't exactly... thrilled about the idea of this part of halloween, just because she's not keen on the idea of a revealing costume from the store or putting together something elaborate (and expensive) that she's only going to wear once. As it is, she shows up a little late to the party in an impromptu lumberjack costume (with real axe!) and everyone ends up lowkey drooling over her anyway
Bill's werewolf costume is similarly half-assed, to... less than impressive results. The tears and fake fur glued to his old flannel aren't exactly as well done as they could be, and the cheap plastic fur starts to itch after a bit, but he's recognizable enough, and he ends up having a lot of fun
Josiah has something of a tradition of showing up in elaborate costumes of obscure characters from something he's become interested in, and not having the gang recognize him, much to his frustration. This year he's dressed up as Cecil Baldwin from Welcome to Nightvale, and gets mistaken for Eridan Ampora, 'someone from harry potter', and like three youtubers.
Swanson had been making on and off comments about dressing up as a demon when asked, but at the last minute chickened out and decided to do an angel instead. Unfortunately, the last-minute planning means that there weren't a lot of options available, and he ended up getting more of a sexy costume than he'd wanted. With a pair of white long john's underneath, the 'dress' doesn't come down to his knees and he feels incredibly awkward, but he sticks close to Strauss and Simon and is more relaxed by the end of the night
Javier doesn't initally come in much of a costume, just more elaborate make-up than usual and a little more black than he would otherwise wear, but when he sees everyone else's costumes he heads upstairs to piece something together from Molly's costume collection. When he comes back down as a sexy vampire, shirt pulled open and a trail of costume blood dripping down his chin, using a pair of glue-on fangs she'd gotten for Dutch (that he refused to use). Dutch is utterly exasperated at this point, and goes off to fume with Micah, but everyone else  applauds him for the quick turn-around.
Micah shows up to the party in a full-on fursuit. He gets upset when Arthur doesn't immediately know its him, and then starts complaining about how hot the costume is about half an hour in. He ends up switching with Uncle halfway through the party though, who forgot to get a costume and hanging out in the kitchen listening to Dutch complain, dripping with sweat. Uncle spends the rest of the party half in the fursuit, napping on the couch

So, this is from DC Nation #2, giving Younger Wally and Billy bottom places in top ten fastest characters (top 3 being Ebodard, Barry and Older Wally). I must say, I get why Wonder Woman is here, but I’m surprised Cheetah managed to get in the middle of the list.
Inside the issue there is also:
A list of following characters: Arsenal, Beast Boy, Booster Gold, Cyborg, Damage, Deathstroke, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, John Constantine, Kyle Rayner,  Lex Luthor, Mister Terrific, Nightwing, Red Robin, The Riddler, Superman, Older Wally West, Wonder Woman and Bob Harras. Out of them two shall die in Heroes in Crisis, Three will be accused of murder and one will be revealed to be the actual murderer. So...this book keeps being bigger and bigger bullshit.
Dan Abnett talked about his new direction for Titans, explaining that if the Rebirth series was about metahuman friends, this will feel more professional - while these characters are friends and will be bonding, there will be more focus on the fact they have different ways of solving problems who need to learn to work together to solve the Source Wall Events problem. He also repeats about Raven being co-leader of the team, pointing out that while Dick leads her emphatic abilities are the key to taking on problems, making her de-facto the co-leader.
Maighread Scott talked about her run on Batgirl and how she will try to tonally bridge hopeful and youthful Burnside era and darker Gail Simone stories and put Barbara against a foe that tests her at every turn. She also admitted cosplaying as Cass Cain Batgirl when she was younger.
Brian Cunningham lead fans through designing the cover for Green Lanterns #53 on which Simon Baz is accused of a crime.
Viktor Bogdanovic talked a bit about his career and Patrick Zicher about his film inspirations, Jorge Jimenez (Justice League), Rafa Sandoval (Hal & Pals), Stjepan Sejic (Justice League: Odyssey), Robson Rocha (Teen Titans) and Joelle Jones (Catwoman) were listed as artists fans should keep an eye on.
We know more about Sandman Universe #0, with a framing device of the story being Matthew and Lucien’s search for Dream, during which writers of all 4 new Sandman books will introduce their protagonists.
James Tynion talked about Justice League Dark and how he enjoys how in magical world so many monstrous characters are sweet on the inside while many worst monsters are the most good-looking and throwing Wonder Woman, a character from one of the shiniest and most optimistic parts of the world into this darkness. He says his story grows beyond just JLD and will have ramifications for all magic users in DCU and promises one scary Halloween. He also said in relation to Justice League that Legion of Doom’s goal is to convince the world to abandon the idea of Justice and make everyone fight only for their selfish desires.

Quatermass 2 is the first sequel to actually use the number “2” in the title. The character of Bernard Quatermass was created by Nigel Kneale for The Quatermass Experiment. This was a groundbreaking piece of British sci-fi horror when the series aired in 1953, with Quatermass investigating what happened to his rocketship when it returns to Earth with two men missing and the survivor catatonic. It’s soon discovered the ship ran into an alien lifeform which threatens to overtake the world if it isn’t destroyed.
The series was a huge success and Kneale soon penned two more series, with the second season following in 1955 and Quatermass and the Pit in 1958. Not only are the Quatermass shows considered landmarks in British television, but they also had a profound impact on series like the original Doctor Who series. The three serials were also adapted into movies by Hammer, with the success of 1955’s The Quatermass Xperiment helping established the company’s reputation for horror. Hammer’s 1967 version of Quatermass And The Pit is also considered a genre classic and is arguably the most famous of the franchise.
Related: All 24 Movies Featuring Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing
Kneale was famously opinioned about how filmmakers handled his work, including removing his name from 1982’s Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch when his original script was rewritten. While he liked Hammer’s Quatermass And The Pit, he wasn’t fond of The Quatermass Xperiment – especially since the BBC sold the movie rights without paying him extra – and felt the miscasting of gruff American actor Brian Donlevy as Quartermass hurt the project. Nonetheless, Donlevy was brought back for Hammer Horror’s 1955 version of Quatermass 2, and while it’s far from the first movie sequel ever produced, it appears to be the first to use “2” to denote its status.
Tumblr media
Quatermass 2 is something of an Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers-style tale, where Donlevy’s scientist discovers that alien parasites are controlling humans as they quietly plan an invasion. The sequel had a higher budget than the original, which can be seen with the increase in action and creature effects, and it condensed many of the events of the original serial. The horror is still surprisingly effective in parts today, including the grim realization that the alien’s minions have pulped human bodies into a pipe to prevent Quatermass from using it to kill the alien creatures hiding out in a tank.
Since the original show and the character were little known in the U.S., Hammer retitled the horror sequel Enemy From Space. While Quatermass 2 being the first numbered sequel gives it an intriguing footnote in film history, it’s generally considered the weakest of the Hammer trilogy. That said, it’s a very enjoyable pulp sci-movie. Kneale wasn’t particularly happy with it either despite working on the script. He later brought his saga to a close with 1979’s Quatermass, a four-part TV series starring John Mills in the title role, and Jaws 3D’s Simon MacCorkindale co-starring.

year in review
Time for the year in review! I do these two surveys and the writing one every year, though the writing one is gonna wait until I have time to collect all the links and do the word count and everything.
Fandom 2017
1. Your main fandom of the year?
Definitely still Hamilton on the reading/writing front. In the "this is all I talk about" way, it was probably Great Comet or maybe Malloy in general because I still want to talk about Ghost Quartet all the time.
2. Your favorite film watched this year?
(Hahaha, in last year's meme I said something about finding Moana surprisingly moving and wanting to see it again. I ended up seeing it like, five times in theatres.)
But actual films that I actually saw in 2017 that weren't Moana. Probably Get Out. It's really a masterful piece of work in my very favorite genre. I made a zillion people see it. I still think about it all the time. And [vague spoilers] the bit where Rod comes out of the car is probably my favorite movie moment in 2017. [/vague spoilers]
3. Your favorite book read this year?
I can narrow it down to my top three, which were Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee, and Ghostland by Colin Dickey. The first two are completely unsurprising--Gentleman's Guide is my favorite sort of narrative, where there are exciting adventures and also a queer romance and everyone lives happily ever after. Star-Crossed is the book I needed when I was thirteen, and Ghostland is something I'm still talking about all the time.
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Did I listen to anything new this year? Oh, Ghost Quartet! Definitely Ghost Quartet, it was all I listened to for about two months.
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Oh god, I don't know? There was nothing I was obsessive over. New stuff that I liked: One Day at a Time, The Good Place, and...maybe that was it?
6. Your favorite online fandom community of the year?
idk. To be honest, I still don’t quite ~*~get~*~ tumblr (tho I had some nice conversations via the chat function, despite my general awkwardness as a human), LJ is dead, and while I connect with fandom friends and talk about fandom on Twitter, I don’t do that as much as I whine about my life. I guess AO3 has been great via comments received, but that also feels one-sided, as chatty cathy as I sometimes get when responding to people’s comments. Most of my fandom conversations this year have PROBABLY been over text?
^^^^ That's what I wrote last year and it probably remains true, except to say that I had a lot of gr8 conversations about my dumb fic with @lisapizza.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't think I had one, unless you count Ghost Quartet.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Everything that happened around the end of Great Comet. I'm still angry and heartbroken over it.
9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
I'm changing this from "your TV bf" and "your TV gf" because I just don't watch a ton of teevee anymore. Still, even with that change, I'm not sure I have a fandom boyfriend right now. I have been pretty anti-dude this year. OH, I guess unless you count Lucas Steele getting all up in my biz on stage when I saw Comet in August XD
10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Probably Brittain Ashford or Morgan Marcell.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
My entire Chicago trip was pretty great, including seeing Karen as Angelica which was WOW. Seeing Malloy as Pierre. The final performance of Great Comet in a ferris wheel with @lisapizza @charmingpplincardigans and @chiasticbees
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Mostly I miss having close buddies in fandom. I miss texting @pearlo every dumb fic idea I have and planning trips and parties for people to come do fannish stuff together.
13. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
I’m p mono-fannish, so I’m good for now.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Oh god, I don't know? Heroes, probably. It's weird not doing DragonCon this year. Um, Hamilton in Boston. Whatever happens with Moby Dick. Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time. The Simon vs. movie.
***
General 2017
What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before?
Went on a non-con vacation with friends! Recorded a live podcast episode (twice!)! Uh...probably other things?
Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
+ Read more adult books
Aahahahaha, if I did that, it was by like...one. So no.
+ Keep track of good things that happen
I started this at the end of the year? But I did not start in January, so much of the year is lost to my shitty memory.
+ Make a writing schedule and try to stick to it for at least a month
This did not happen.
+ Be better with money–pay off half the credit card
This also did not happen.
+ Go on more dates
This also did not happen. I did go on some, but not as many as 2016 and I spent a large chunk of 2017 dragging my feet over asking someone out instead of just...asking.
Next year:
+ Come up with a better way to track reading/writing/finances + Set up some kind of writing schedule + Cook more often + Schedule at least a couple days a month that are designated "get nothing done" days, so I have at least a couple days where I'm not an anxious mess over not doing enough. + Go somewhere new + Go on more dates--there will be more kissing in 2018, I stfg.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Caitlin had a baby! I still haven't met him :(
Did anyone close to you die?
The only person I can think of is Sara, a con friend who I know through several of my closer friends. It was weird being at con without her.
What countries did you visit?
Just the US. Hoping to change that in 2018. I did go to ATL, Charlotte, and Chicago, but even that feels like less travel than I normally do.
What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?
I’d like to feel more on top of things. I’d like more organization in my life. I’d like more sleep. I’d like a girlfriend.
^^^^ Keeping that answer from last year.
What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 21 and the Women's March, which was amazing and energizing. June 13 when we saw Malloy as Pierre and that whole weird weekend. September 3 and having the final performance of Great Comet in a ferris wheel. (And also crying my cosplay make-up off all day like a nerd.)
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Staying alive? I feel like this was not a particularly strong year for achievements.
What was your biggest failure?
The whole year feels kind of like a fuzzy grey blur. I feel like I can come up with nine hundred failures, but none of them were particularly bad.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
I started the year off with a broken foot and also with a cold that lasted almost a week. The usual brain stuff was worse than usual thanks to the state of the world. I got glasses.
What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets to Great Comet and Hamilton and Ghost Quartet and Ghost Light and all the other shows and things I saw. My trip to Chicago. My skeleton onesie.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends. A lot of excellent activists.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The American people as a whole and everything associated with our clusterfuck election outcome.
Where did most of your money go?
Grown-up type stuff (rent, utilities, groceries), cons, and travel.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Chicago, HeroesCon, DragonCon, Hamilton, Great Comet, Ghost Quartet. Galentine's Day and my Great Comet wake and my Halloween party.
What song will always remind you of 2017?
I feel like this question is more aimed towards people who listen to the radio. My answer is going to be Ghost Quartet because I listened to that a lot.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I would say that, overall, 2017 has been a sadder year for me than 2016, because up until November, my 2016 was pretty great. But this very moment right now, I think I'm probably slightly happier than I was in December 2016 because everything seemed SO bleak at that point, and at least now there's been some hope.
b) thinner or fatter? Same.
c) richer or poorer? Same.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Writing. Sleeping. Going on dates. Hanging out with people.
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being depressed. Obsessing over stupid shit people said on the internet.
Did you fall in love in 2017?
Nope.
What was your favorite TV program?
For new stuff, probably The Good Place.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Many, many people. THANKS, POLITICS.
What was the best book you read?
See above for more details on this one.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ghost Quartet.
What did you want and get?
Cons, brunch, travel, various tickets to things, my skeleton onesie.
What did you want and not get?
Impeachment. A girlfriend. More sleep.
What was your favorite film of this year?
Get Out
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32! I had a party and we played Drawful and @lisapizza made me a beautiful cake!
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Any sort of fix to our current political mess.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?
Retro-y dresses.
What kept you sane?
@ginthusiastic @pearlo @caphairdadbeard @isjustprogress @intrikate88 @lisapizza @charmingpplincardigans @anachronistique @chiasticbees @brilligspoons and the rest of the Boston crew whose tumblrs I don’t know/remember, and the DCon crew and Great Comet and Hamilton and GBBO and social media breaks.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Brittain Ashford, Morgan Marcell, the entire cast of The Last Jedi.
What political issue stirred you the most?
It's hard to pick just one when the whole country is on fire.
Who did you miss?
Pretty much everyone when they are not right next to me. Sarah Bay, a lot, but I feel weird singling one person out. [This is exactly what I wrote for the last three years, but I’m keeping it because it’s still true.]
Who was the best new person you met?
I’m trying to think of actualfax new people I met? I can't think of anyone?
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017:
No one cares about facts.
Quote a song that sums up your year:
I will try to forgive myself for living in the dark for my loss of wonder for forgetting how to play
I will try to forgive myself for being absent in public and bored before stars
for not remembering for not being in my body for not starting right now I will try to see myself as I am

Tag Time!!!
I was tagged by @karminbathory
Thank you Karmin Bathory! Sorry it took so long to reply to it!
Rules : tag ten of your followers you want to get to know better. I tag: @magnusbaene @hufflebee @phantomandfoxflyer @fourmillionkruge @twilightarc-gm @blushyalec @schemingface @awkwardmc @whisperbinder @maghnvsbane
Name:
So my pen name and the name I go by online is Kamiella Maze, but you can call me Kamie!
Gender:
Female
Star Sign:
 Taurus
Height:
 5′5″ or about 165cm
Sexuality: Bisexual/Bicurious at the very least
What images do you have set as your desktop/cell wallpaper: So I just got a new phone and laptop for Christmas (my old ones were falling apart), so I don’t really have anything interesting on them. It used to be a Hamilton lockscreen paper and a starry night with a tree home paper on my last phone, and a fennec fox on my last laptop’s wallpaper!
Have you ever had a crush on a teacher:
No, not that I can remember at the least.
What was your last text message:  “Sweet! Tell me if you think it works okay! I thought they could go to a pub or something afterwards if it all sounds good to you. Could be a good icebreaker for both of them?” to my friend Korinne! We’re working out a book idea... so writing stuff. Lol
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years:
In ten years? Ideally I’d like to be a professor or working in the linguistics field in some way, shape, or form? We’ll just have to see.
If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be:
So I’m currently living a little outside of Tokyo, Japan (I’d be nervous posting that, but it’s huge here so... I’m not afraid), and I would really love to be in the U.K. It’s where I really want to go next, but I’m going to be going back to the States in July and hopefully working until I can find a way to move or finish university in the U.K. (if I can pull it off).
What was your coolest halloween costume: I don’t think I’ve ever had a cool halloween costume per se? I went as the Mad Hatter once and that was really fun! Otherwise I have a pretty fun Ciel Phantomhive cosplay from Black Butler.
What was your favorite 90s show:
Friends, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Full House, Sister Sister, Pokémon, and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Who was your last kiss:
My ex-boyfriend over a year and a quarter ago? I suppose.
Have you ever been stood up:
By a date? No... By a friend? A couple times.
favorite ice cream flavor:
Cookie dough, or the chocolate brownie ones...
Have you ever been to Las Vegas:
Yep! I used the airport a few times, because it’s not too far from where my family lives.
Favorite pair of shoes:
I have a pair of sketchers that I use now that are comfortable walking around Japan. My favorite are probably a pair of high heeled ankle like boots that my friend got me for my birthday! I love them!
Whats your favorite fruit:
Um.... I love mangos and avocados the most to be honest! Though I really do love most fruit... oooh... and kiwi...
Whats the stupidest thing you have ever done:
Right now the stupidest thing I can think of that I’ve ever done is take an English word and give it a Japanese conjugation... that, that was pretty stupid... Oh! And I forgot the letter K for like a minute and a half and could only remember the Japanese kana: か so that was pretty stupid in my opinion too... albeit, funny.
Whats your favorite book:
My favorite book is a hard one. My favorite duology right now is Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by @lbardugo and one of my favorite trilogies is the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks!
What loser is your favorite:
I generally get annoyed by the losers in books and movies and shows? But I guess if I have to pick it would be Joey from Friends and Simon from The Shadowhunters... can you call Simon a loser though? I mean... maybe? I guess.

Tumblr media
If you love Obi-Wan Kenobi and BB-8, you’re not alone.
From Stephen Colbert to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, INSIDER rounded up stars who love Chewie, R2-D2, and lightsabers just as much as you. Some of them even like to dress up as their favorite characters.
Visit INSIDER’s homepage for more stories.
The “Star Wars” fandom knows no bounds. So, of course, many celebrities are obsessed with a galaxy far, far away.
From Princes William and Harry to cosplaying actors, here are celebrities you didn’t know were obsessed with “Star Wars.”
Madison Malone Kircher contributed to a previous version of this story.
Kevin Smith said visiting the “Star Wars” set made him cry.

When “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director invited Smith to visit the film’s set in England, Smith took him up on the offer.
Smith posted a teary-eyed Instagram picture and said being on set made him feel young again.
“When I was a kid, I liked ‘Star Wars,’ and now I’m on the ‘Star Wars’ set,” the actor told the LA Times of the experience. “The moment I stepped on the Millennium Falcon 10 years dropped off my life.”
“Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe also visited the set of “The Force Awakens.”

Radcliffe became a “Star Wars” fan late in life, but when he did he fell in love with the movies. He told Conan O’Brien he crashed the set of the “The Force Awakens” because he knew most of the Potter crew was working on the film.
Radcliffe also dressed up as Boba Fett for a Halloween episode of “The Ellen Show.”
Tina Fey has a love for all things Leia.

When Tina Fey walked down the aisle as Liz Lemon in the last season of “30 Rock,” it was dressed in Princess Leia’s classic white robe and twin hair buns.
“It’s the only white dress I own,” Lemon quips.
In real life, Fey was spotted wearing a “Vote Princess Leia” shirt on “Saturday Night Live” in 2008.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt appeared in the latest movie.

Gordon-Levitt attended “The Force Awakens” premiere dressed in a homemade costume. His Yoda-inspired look included green face-paint and a pair of verdant “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” pajama pants.
Maybe that helped him land a cameo in “The Last Jedi” alongside director Rian Johnson, who he worked with in the past.
Olivia Munn has shown off her love for “Star Wars” movie on social media.

Munn posted an Instagram of her and Green Bay Packers’ quarterback boyfriend Aaron Rodgers in “Star Wars” gear.
“Who’s the bigger #StarWars fan…The one who bought this awesome shirt at @oldnavy or the one who already owned his own Obi-Wan Kenobi robe?”
Munn has previously been spotted dressed as Princess Leia, complete with the infamous “Slave Leia” bikini.
“Star Wars” is a family affair for Rainn Wilson.

Wilson attended the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” premiere in Hollywood with his son Walter, who dressed as bounty hunter Boba Fett.
Seth Rogen wanted a role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

“The Interview” star told MTV he wanted to play the alien Watto in the new film.
“I’m campaigning to play that Jewish alien who built those robots in the George Lucas [prequels],” Rogen joked to MTV in 2014. “If you’re reprising the anti-Semitic Jewish flying alien creature, please consider me.”

Mindy Kaling is a secret “Star Wars” fan.

Kaling totally trolled “Star Wars” fans on “The Tonight Show” by pretending to know absolutely nothing about the intergalactic franchise.
In reality, “The Mindy Project” star is actually a big fan of the series, and even moderated a panel with the cast of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earlier this December.
Stephen Colbert says he’s the original “Star Wars” fan.

In 1977, a young Colbert won two tickets to see the original “Star Wars” movie two weeks before it opened in theaters.
“I have been a ‘Star Wars’ fan two weeks longer than any of you,” said Colbert in 2014.
He also battled fellow talk show host Jon Stewart for the title of “Biggest Star Wars Fan,” and when the first trailers for “The Force Awakens” came out he explained why the three-pronged lightsaber was the perfect design.
Megan Fox thinks her life size R2-D2 is cool.

Megan Fox isn’t a big Twitter user, but back in 2013, the actress used the platform to show her inner “Star Wars” fan.
“Is it cool or embarrassing to own a life size R2-D2? It’s cool right?…Right?!,” Fox tweeted along with this picture of the giant droid.
Anna Kendrick talks “Star Wars” on Twitter.
Tumblr media
In 2014, Kendrick tweeted a picture after meeting “the badass” Carrie Fisher. The actress also starred in a commercial for “Star Wars” video game “Battlefield,” yielding a kitchen knife as a faux-lightsaber.
When the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer dropped, Kendrick took to Twitter to express her excitement.
“‘There’s a new Star Wars trailer! EVERYBODY SHUT UP THERE’S A NEW STAR WARS TRAILER!’ – me being professional on set today,” the actress tweeted.
Simon Pegg had a cameo in “The Force Awakens” after being a lifelong fan.

“I can mark out my life . . . in terms of my relationship with that film,” Pegg told the Guardian in 2010 of the first film being released when he was eight.
Pegg finally got the chance to live out his dream of being in a “Star Wars” movie. He played alien Unkar Plutt in “The Force Awakens.”
Princes William and Harry shot scenes to be in “The Last Jedi” and visited the set.

The brothers didn’t just stop by the set of the movie in 2016. John Boyega confirmed Prince William and Prince Harry filmed cameos as Stormtroopers during an interview with BBC Radio 4.
Unfortunately, the duo didn’t make it into the final film.

5 Things I’m Looking Forward to in 2017
some cool shit coming up this year, by kat.
More of The Querds: Youtube ● Instagram ● Twitter
I know that this year is already off to a rough start, with the Trump administration coming in and starting on every terrible thing they promised to do. This list isn’t meant to belittle that, it’s just a small way for me to share some of the positive things going on for me this year.
Tumblr media
5.) Logan
This movie. This. Movie.
I didn’t even know I was excited for the last installment of the Wolverine movie franchise until that first trailer dropped. I don’t know what got me first: Johnny Cash playing in the background, the dystopian Fury Road desert shots, or Patrick Stewart back at it again with the only incarnation of Professor X I adore.
We got a glimpse of Laura/X-23, too, but it wasn’t until that second red band trailer came out that I figured out this would probably be my favorite anticipated movie of the year. I get goosebumps just thinking about X-23 screaming into battle.
Logan hits theaters March 3rd, and I will be there.
Tumblr media
4.) Mega-Con
This will be my third year going to Central Florida’s largest comic convention. I had the pleasure of meeting Gail Simone last year, and so far they’ve already announced Tim Curry as a special guest so I’m pretty stoked for it.
I’m hoping to cosplay on the cheap at least one day, but we’ll see how it works out. Mal from Lumberjanes is my first go-to, but Harper Row or Donna Troy are tied for a close second because I think I have an idea of how to pull them off.
I’m also hoping for two days this year instead of the one, but even I’ll admit the crowds are a bit intense, and living paycheck to paycheck makes it tricky to get tickets and money for gas and food.
Tumblr media
3. Halloween Horror Nights
I love Halloween. It’s always been my favorite holiday; I can still remember my mom explaining to me that we were getting dressed up “so you can get free candy and look at pumpkins and spooky stuff.” Yeah, I know they don’t give you any 'treats' at Halloween Horror Nights unless you count the blood-covered cast members jumping out at you, or the outrageous food and drink prices, but it's still in the spirit.
Last year I had some issues being there because of Halloweeny feels, and because experiencing new stuff floors me sometimes, but I really enjoyed the Scare Zones and the shows. This year I’m excited to try some actual houses, and to see what shows they have lined up.
Just, please invite the Academy of Villains again, Universal. Holy hell that show was awesome.
Tumblr media
2.)  Moving
The RV we currently live in works - most of the time - as a place to sleep, eat, and dwell, but it’s definitely not ours. MJ and I have been ready to own our own place for a long while now. This year we've lined up an RV we're going to buy, sometime between now and August. I’m just excited to put money into a place that's mine, is going to stay mine, and is also something I can show off and share with everyone else.
Not to mention our target RV drives. I am so stoked at the idea of being able to take my house with me to Fort Wilderness for a weekend of Disney joy without the hassle of driving an hour to and from the park every day.
Tumblr media
1. Getting Married
So, this is a thing that is actually happening six days from the day I’m writing this list. It’s going to happen on Daytona Beach, one of our favorite people is going to be doing the ceremony and signing the papers, and there’s going to be a bonfire afterwards... That means I get to eat marshmallows, on the beach, in a dress, with the love of my life.
It’s long overdue, and there have been a lot of bumps in the road to actually make it official, but it’s happening the first weekend of February, and I think it’s a really big, milestone event in my life to kick off the year.
*
There are a lot of other things going on this year: three other Marvel movies, Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, getting a gaming computer and getting back into Steam, Spooky Empire, Star Wars, Disney World, and so much vlogging... while getting to say “my wife” and having legal, “official” umpf behind it.
I know there is so much bad going on in the world, and it’s not easy to deal with. I'm going to try to think of things that I'm excited for, that I'm saving up to do, as we start this new year. I think it's important to hold onto those things and have fun where you can.
- Kat
