I wasn't going to talk about beacuse I'm new to Bridgerton/Polin tumblr and the internet is full of Jess Brownell supporters who think it's okay to cyberbully anyone who criticises her - it's not, by the way...
BUT
If people think Colin Bridgerton would cheat, it's most likely because of the way Jess Brownell's decided to tell Polin's love story.
I remember an interview I've read (before season 3 was released) in wich she talked about "Penelope's glow up". It was an Entertainment Weekly back in december and the interviewer said that "penelope's wardrobe change was a huge part of Romancing Mister Bridgerton - wich is not in the book she just starsts dressing the way she wants because she's 28 and a spinister and her mother gives up on her prospects - and Jess Brownell doesn't correct this fact. She says she's "aware" of this topic (glow up) and that she's palying with it as in their world "her wardrobe change doesn't fix her confidence magicaly". The point is: Penelope's wardrobe changes doesn't change her status in the book either(!) If we're being honest, people (the gentleman of the ton) pay way more attention to her new style in the show.
And that gave some viewers the impression that Colin, too, only saw her after her glow up/wardrobe change/new style. Wich isn't at all true! In fact, when they meet again in their book and he complements her dress she says "it's not yellow", to wich he replys "so it's not", because he didn't care(!!) And his feelins for her are not attached to the way she dresses(!!)
If you asked me, i'd say Colin has been falling in love with Pen through all their friendship. However, the consensus seems to be that people believe his romantic feelings started with the kiss - wich is totally fine. The thing is that right after their first kiss (the best ever book-to-show adaptation of a scene) enters Debling. And the the idea some non Polin fans have that Colin may only be interested because she now has a suitor.
Both scenarios, plus the decision to not involve Colin in Whistledown plot, making him not only ask for her hand in marriage but have sex with her before finding out - when book Colin is the first one to know about Pen being Whistledown and asks her to marrying him after he discovers it - leading to the most infamous line of it all: the "entrapment line".
What I'm saying is: the way things were put out, and most specifically, the order in what things were put out in the show, gave some people the impression that Colin's love for Penelope isn't strong when it couldn't be fourther than the truth.
Colin Bridgerton loved Penelope before being in love with her. He is canonically the first man to ever have a conversation to her, the man who saw her and show her kindness when not even her family did. The man who danced with her at his mother ball - in a specific situation he dances with her after Benedict leaves her alone in the dance floor because he just feel in love with Sophie and them """fights""" Ben for it. He discovers she's Lady Whistledown because he is concerned with her safety. He goes to her when he is concerned Eloise may be Whistledown. He fights with her opon finding she's Whistledown because of her safety. He holds her hand when she panicks after Cressida claims to be Whistldown. He notices her witt and humour and how it it's only reserved for him and and other people she's confortable with. He's willing to gave a chance to publish his writing for being married to Whistledown because being by her side is the most important thing to him.
There's an actually quote in the book: "maybe, this, then, is the definition of love. When you wanted someone, needed her, adored her still, even when you are utterly furious and quiet ready to tye her to a bed just to quit her from going out and making more trouble". Wich to me represents his feelings for Penelope in the carriage scene in chapiter 13.
And I know a lot people hate - or very much dislike - the Bridgerton Books and most of all the behavior of the man in the books but the thing is they're hitorical romances. They take place in the early XIX century and are written to resemble that time. We view this books as fantasy because that society and costumes seem to far away from our society and social context.
The fantasy is that this man - rakes who fuck around and control a society where woman have basically no rights or voice - fall in love. And find their one true love. There's no cheating. It's a happly ever after. No Bridgerton man will ever cheat and if you didn't understand it, you didn't get the books at all.

the funniest part of being in dark academia spaces etc online is that you do really begin to see how like fake all of it is when people are posting and reblogging pictures of your own university (and romanticising your own degree) and they've all just been... desaturated to high heaven like no the shortcut to your lectures doesn't look like that - nothing weirder than seeing people look up to what is essentially half of your life as an aesthetic pinnacle and meanwhile there you are doing studying the classics in an old british university and that is not the vibe
idk it just makes me laugh, seeing photos that can literally include the outside of my own student bedroom being romanticised when i can see very clearly that the sepia filter is blasted to 100 and there aren't tourists everywhere
#like this isn't to sound braggy#like oh i live the real dark academia life#im so lucky to have my degree and my uni#its more a remark on just how fake aesthetic spaces are#and the people who curate them are so aware of that#but those who consume it aren't necessarily as aware#and that it creates this lie that lifts up certain subjects and institutions#without a recognition of how different experiences of that subject or place can be#but the lack of recognition of seasonal change is also very amusing#but it is both funny and sad the obvious manipulation of reality#that said#the reason i am in dark academia spaces is because it motivates me when i feel tired of my degree#to remember my own passion for it#and how lucky i am#and how hard i worked to get here#and that this is my dream#and the desensitisation to the wonder of these places and lifestyles#is a real problem#and we should all live with a little but more sparkle#classics#classics student#classicsblr#latin student#oxbridge#dark academia#seeing people aspire to what you have#as someone who also aspired to it#is inspiring#KEEP GOING#you can make it

Spencer Reid x fem!reader
Summary: Spencer's been on the fence with his feelings for you. Due to his past traumas heâs decided to keep his feelings hidden. Until youâre caught in a dangerous situation at work
WC: 3.5 k
A/N: I am SO SORRY this took so long. Iâve been sitting on this for two months because I was being a perfectionist and had writer's block. Thank you so much to the person who requested this idea and I hope yaâll like it! beta read by @whats-yesterday00
Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Fluff, Protective!spencer, Friends to lovers, age gap (25 and idk 33 or 34), during season 9 (sadly no post prison Reid, I refuse to watch the show after Derek & Hotch leave), Maeve is impliedÂ
Warnings!: mentions of murder, stalking, gunshot wounds, hostage situation and incorrect info about hostage situation cause Idk I'm not in the FBI
Everyone knew Spencer Reid had a soft spot for you. Well, everyone except for you.Â
Since the moment you met youâve been on his mind.Â
âDo you know how old she is?âÂ
âNo, how old is she?âÂ
â25!â Penelope squeaked before being shushed by Rossi.Â
âWow, sheâs gotta be the youngest person to ever be in the BAU. Well, second to genius over here,â JJ commented while pointing to Reid.Â
âThatâs if she gets the job,â Morgan added.Â
They were all crowded around the desks in front of Hotchâs office. The blinds were cracked and they could just barely make out the woman seated across from their boss for an interview.Â
Due to the increase in caseload after Alex joined, Hotch made the request to add an additional member of the team. After interviewing a few people that didnât pan out, he heard quite a bit about you from your supervisor saying how well youâve done with the FBI and youâd be an exceptional fit for the team.
Then of course Penelope looked up everyone who was interviewing with Hotch. You being her most recent victim.Â
âHow long has she been with the FBI?â Alex questioned.Â
âThree years,â Penelope answeredÂ
âWhat? Did she join right after college?âÂ
âNot right away. She graduated early and got experience with law enforcement first.âÂ
Spencer sat at his desk quietly while everyone was peering into Hotchâs office. Not to say he wasnât nosy as well. You were already behind the blinds when he arrived for work.Â
âOh theyâre shaking hands! That has to be a good sign,â Penelope cheered.Â
Morgan turned to the window, âItâs definitely not a bad one.âÂ
Her eyes widened before loudly whispering, âOh no theyâre leaving. Disperse.âÂ
She scurried off in her heels towards Derekâs desk while he followed behind with a grin. JJ, and Rossi averted their eyes from Hotchâs office and found Alexâs desk far more interesting.Â
All while Spencerâs attention was brought to the woman led down the stairs by his boss. It felt like his heart stopped beating when he saw how beautiful you were. He was brought back to earth as Hotch introduced you to the rest of the team.Â
âThis is Dr. Spencer Reid,â he gestured to the man sitting at his desk.Â
You offered him a small wave and a kind smile, âNice to meet you.âÂ
It became quite obvious you two would get along very well. From very early on conversation flowed incredibly well between the two of you. There were very few people that he felt were easy to talk to because of his niche interests and the way he would ramble spitting facts left and right.Â
But he never had to worry about saying the wrong thing or talking too much with you. You often were a content listener or you would even match his passion on certain subjects. Most were topics Spencer already knew about.Â
When you first met Spencer you didnât know the Dr in his name meant he held 3 PhDâs or that he was quite literally a genius.Â
So you were often telling stories or facts you found interesting that he already knew. In fact, almost every âfun factâ you brought up, he knew about already. Â
But he never interrupted you. He always was listening intently to what you had to say. Like he was hearing about it for the first time.Â
At some point you learned of his eidetic memory and how vast his knowledge was. It was during a case where you found out and mentioned it to him.Â
âReid, remember when we were at the harbor and I mentioned that thing about sharks?â You hesitated, âdid you know that already?â
âYes,â he guiltily admitted.Â
You partially deflated suddenly feeling that the whole tangent you went on was pointless. âWhy did you let me go on and on if you already knew?âÂ
His eyes softened, âbecause I wanted to hear you talk about it.âÂ
That was when his feelings started to peek through. As the months went on it only grew and grew. And you were none the wiser.
To the average person, it might not seem like much. Perhaps you were just good friends. But to a team of profilers (and best friends) it was painfully obvious.Â
It was almost painful the way he looked at you with a longing in his eyes. Or when his gaze immediately turned to you to catch your reaction or smile.Â
It was obvious by the way he found any excuse to bring you up in conversation. Or how in conversation with you he would mirror your mannerisms and lean closer to you.Â
As well as the things he remembered about you or the little things he did for you. Like the countless coffee cups he bought for you from his favorite coffee shop before work. And when he saw you struggling to find something or open something he was always right there to help.Â
Spencer Reid had feelings for you. Feelings so deep that he couldnât pull the roots out even if he tried.Â
He didnât know what to do with his feelings exactly. He hadnât felt this strongly for someone since ⊠well for a while. He was terrified of history repeating itself.Â
He couldn't lose you. Heâd seen first hand what this job did to him, what it did to Hotch. Their loved ones ripped away from them too soon.
So for now at least, he kept his feelings to himself.Â
Well, until your last case.Â
The BAU was called in on a case that just turned serial. They found the unsub to be a man named Mark, who started killing because his girlfriend cheated on him. The first two victims reminded him of the man she cheated with. When that didnât satisfy him, he hunted down and killed the other man.Â
Now the team and SWAT was stationed outside a bus that Mark was holding hostage. He stalked his ex-girlfriend and tracked down the new city bus she took.Â
The officers couldnât get a clear shot of him because of where he was standing and he kept using the passengers as shields. Rossi was currently on the phone with him trying to make negotiation terms and get some of the people off the bus. Mark however was incredibly stubborn and didnât want to let his leverage go.Â
So Rossi asked about the children on the bus and if Mark would be willing to let them off. They were met with silence on the other end of the phone, contrary to his previous behavior where he loved to hear himself talk.Â
After a short pause the phone spoke. âIâll only send out the kids if you send in an agent.âÂ
Rossi shifted his weight and crossed his arms. âAre there any other circumstances youâre willing to send out the children for?â he asked.Â
âNope,â he said with a pop at the end of the word.Â
A look of concern was quickly exchanged between Rossi and Hotch. While their faces didnât reveal much, their eyes spoke volumes.Â
âHow about this,â the unsub continued. âIâll send out their moms too.âÂ
Rossiâs eyebrows furrowed slightly at the eagerness to comply from the criminal. âYouâll send out the children and their mothers if we send in one of our agents?âÂ
âI promise.âÂ
Rossi returned his eyes to Hotch who stood rigid and tall with his arms folded. He was met with an approving nod before returning to the call.Â
âAlright, we can agree to those terms.âÂ
âOh and agent Rossi?â Mark perked.Â
âYes?â
âSend in a girl.â
There was a tension that quietly branched out between the agents listening to the phone call.Â
âWhy do you want a woman?â Rossi asked, clearly changing the dialogue used.
âIâm losing too many ladies sending out these moms. I want one back,â he replied with a cockiness to his voice.Â
Ross confirmed they could send in a female agent. Almost immediately after the unsub hung up, you volunteered to be the agent going on the bus. Â
âIâll do it.â
Spencerâs head shot in your direction. âNo you're not.â His voice was laced with concern and a hint of demand. Â
âReid-â
âHe specifically asked for a woman. We donât know what heâs planning, heâs devolving.â
âAnd Iâm willing to take that risk to make sure those kids are safe,â You defended yourself.Â
You turned to your boss waiting for his thoughts. Hotch knew youâd been exposed to enough high tension scenarios to know what you were doing. But just like any member of his team, he silently hesitated, worrying for your safety.Â
He took a breath before meeting your eyes again. âSend her in.âÂ
Right before you were led to the bus, Hotch took off the holster on his ankle and handed it to you. âSome extra protection in case something happens.â You couldnât hear the concern in his voice, but you saw it clear as day in his eyes.Â
You made your way to the bus and saw through the window Mark holding a gun to the driver and telling him to open the door. You stepped on and the doors closed quickly behind you. The unsub took a long look at you, panning up and down.Â
âWell how about that. Arenât you a beauty? He said with a cheeky grin.Â
You tried your hardest not to look disgusted with him. Instead you kept your composure and spoke with courage and a confident demeanor.Â
âYou this flirty with all your hostages?â you asked plainly.
As he gazed down at your legs his eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed. He bent down and with the gun in his hand, pushed away the bottom of your pants leg. When he saw the gun in the holster, he tsked.Â
âYou always carry this much dead weight on you?âÂ
He stood back up and put his hand out, âhand it over, I told them no weapons.âÂ
You reluctantly took off Hotchâs holster and placed it in the unsubs hand. Your one line of defense was gone.Â
The longer you were on the bus, the more anxious Spencer got. He knew you were an exceptional profiler, and you had enough experience and skill to handle yourself in situations like this.Â
But that couldnât stop the ache in his stomach or the fact that his heart rate could power a car by now.Â
He stood closer to the bus now to get a clearer view of the windows. They managed to successfully get the children and moms off and to safety, but you werenât safe. Spencer figured you were trying to negotiate with the unsub, but that was going nowhere. This was confirmed when Rossi tried calling him again but every call was ignored.Â
This unsub was stubborn as hell. He knows he trapped himself, but didnât want to back down. At least he didnât want to go quietly.Â
Spencer was talking with the rest of the team trying to devise a plan when the gunshots were fired. The team immediately ran back to the cacophony on the bus.Â
More shots were fired, he didnât know where from. He didnât care.Â
He just needed to get to you.Â
When he got a decent view through one of the windows that hadnât shattered he saw you. Your hand over arm in pain but still standing in front of the civilians to protect them. The unsub stalking over to you, gun in hand and smacking you over the head with it. You slammed against the chairs and fell to the floor.Â
Spencer's face paled. He swore he was going to throw up.Â
Through the fog of his mind Spencer saw Morgan escorting Mark off the bus, his hands now behind his back in cuffs.Â
He rushed past them, clambering through the door and up the stairs to get to you, calling your name.Â
âReid?â he heard your small tired voice through the crowd.Â
He followed it to you, laying on the ground struggling to open your eyes and clutching your left arm.Â
He crouched down to your level with a gentle hand on your uninjured arm.Â
âHey, Iâm here. Iâm right here,â he comforted.Â
âMy head hurts,â you mumbled.
His eyes softened, âI know. I think you might have a concussion, you need to go to the hospital.âÂ
You slowly started to fade out of consciousness. Spencerâs heart dropped and his hand moved from your arm to your face.Â
âNo no no no stay with me okay?â he caressed your cheek with his thumb.
âStay with me sweetheart,â he consoled.
Your eyes stopped struggling to stay open and finally made their close. His other hand rushed to your pulse point as he called for a medic.
Time seemed to stand still while Spencer sat next to your hospital bed waiting for you to wake up. He couldnât leave your side. He didnât want to.Â
You were okay. You were laying in the bed in front of him. But of course in his mind he ran through all the possible scenarios of how things couldâve gone worse, how things couldâve gone better. What wouldâve happened if you didnât have your gun taken away, or if the unsub got angry that you tried to bring a gun in. What if he didnât lose his cool and start firing. What if you never went inside in the first place.Â
And with all of those possible scenarios, the same thought plagued him.Â
He was wrong.Â
Before he was too scarred from past traumas to reveal just how much you meant to him. Not wanting to repeat the past and lose yet another person he loved cared for.Â
But now, after seeing you in danger right in front of him, now he was terrified at the thought of you never knowing. He was now more scared you would never know how much he loved the way your nose crinkled when you smiled. How he thought the sound of your voice could cure any ailment he had. How he admired your strength and desire to protect others. How you could light up anyone's mood by just being you. How he could listen to you for hours, even if you were lecturing him on things heâd known like the back of his hand.
To him it was a whole new experience hearing it from you.Â
Spencer was pulled from his thoughts as you stirred awake. He saw your eyes adjust to the bright fluorescent lights ahead. He quickly got up to dim the lights for you.Â
When he returned to his seat you smiled at him, âhi.âÂ
âHi,â he smiled back. Â
âHow are you feeling?âÂ
You sighed. âLike shit,â you complained with a hint of humor.Â
âThe doctor said you have a minor head injury, bruised ribs, and the shot to your arm thankfully didnât break any bones.âÂ
âFun,â you said sarcastically.Â
A moment of silence passes between you two. He doesnât exactly know what to say. How do you casually tell your friend and coworker you have a crush on them?Â
There is no casual way.Â
âYou called me sweetheart,â you broke the silence.Â
He furrowed his eyebrows, âWhat?âÂ
You fidget with the blanket, âearlier, when I passed out on the bus. You called me sweetheart.â
He searches his mind for the memories of the day. When he finds the memory he realizes in the heat of the moment the term of endearment slipped out.Â
He wasnât aware you heard it.Â
âI did,â he confirmed as his ears flushed.
âWhy?â you asked curiously.Â
He didnât know how to tell you that heâs wanted to call you that for weeks now. So instead he settled with-
âIt just ⊠felt right.âÂ
âOh,â you replied quietly.
Spencer tensed up at your response.Â
âIf I crossed the line-âÂ
âNo. Of course not,â you interrupted with a comforting voice.Â
The corners of your mouth lifted and cheeks dusted pink. âI thought it was sweet. You donât normally say stuff like that.â Â
His heart warmed at your confession and a smile spread on his face.Â
âYou thought me calling you sweetheart was sweet?â he lightly teased.
âShut up,â you chuckled, rolling your eyes. âYou know what I mean.âÂ
Your laughter was cut short by a sharp pain in your abdomen. You bit down on your lip and gripped the side of the bed in pain.Â
The reality that you were injured on the job was rushing back to him.Â
He licked his lips, his nervous unconscious habit.Â
âI was really worried about you.â
âI know.â
âNo, you donât,â he interjected.Â
âThe entire time you were on that bus I was sick to my stomach. Terrified that something bad was gonna happen and it did,â he started to ramble.Â
You leaned closer to him. âBut Iâm okay Reid.â
âYou still got hurt. He shot you for christ sake!â his voice raising in pitch and volume.Â
âReid-â
âHe lashed out at you! You couldâve died!âÂ
âSpencer,â you said firmly, pulling his attention towards you.Â
He never heard you say his name before. No matter how many times he said you could call him Spencer, you still called him Reid. Hearing his name fall from your lips was like the consistency of honey.
You placed your hands on his face caressing his cheek. His golden eyes meet yours.Â
âIâm alright. Iâm still here,â you consoled.Â
âBut if-â
âSpencer.â
âPlease,â he pleaded. âItâs important.âÂ
You nodded your head, signaling for him to continue. He gently grabbed your wrists and brought your hands in his. He took a deep breath before he decided to spill the thing that had been eating away at his heart.Â
âI have feelings for you. I have for a long time. Almost as long as youâve been at the BAU,â he started.Â
With your hands in his he started tracing his thumb over your knuckles.Â
âIf we donât have work I count down the days until I can see you again. When I do see you I desperately want to see you smile, see you happy. And if Iâm the one that causes that smile, it makes my whole day. Thatâs why I never interrupted when you talked about something I already knew. The way your face lit up when you talked with such passion was the highlight of my day.âÂ
âFor months I was scared of my feelings and I kept them to myself. I was too scared to admit how much I liked you because I-â his hold on your hands tightened.
âI know what it feels like to lose someone. This job takes so much from us; I never wanted it to take you.âÂ
Spencer let out a breath he didnât know he was holding in.Â
âToday I realized it would be more painful if I went the rest of my life not telling you, than having even a fraction of a moment with you.â
A moment of silence danced between you two. Your head reeling from his confession, heart beating so hard you could feel it in your bones. Your palms sweaty from holding onto Spencers, but still neither of you let go.Â
The silence was deafening, plaguing him.Â
âPlease ⊠say something,â he begged.Â
Your lash line was collecting tears that you simultaneously tried blinking away. Your eyes found his tie less intimidating than his gaze.
âI never thought you would like me back,â you said with a soft tone.Â
Spencer's cheeks turned red as his heart started melting. âI do.âÂ
You brought your eyes back to his. That precious smile on his face was infectious.Â
âListen,â you squeezed his hands. âIâm not going anywhere. So you have as much time with me as you want.âÂ
Spencer's eyes softened at your words. He raised your hands and placed a loving kiss on your knuckles.Â
The two of you were too lost in eachother to notice the footsteps towards the room.Â
âHey, I found some Jello for her if she-â Alex abruptly stopped once she noticed what she walked into.Â
You both awkwardly pulled your hands away from each other; you fiddling with the hospital blanket, him rubbing his palms on his slacks.Â
âSo, feeling better?â she asked hesitantly.Â
âMuch,â you answered, still a bit flustered.Â
âGood, good to hear,â She tried not to sound too smug, but the small smile on her face said otherwise.Â
She raised and shook the jello container in her hand.Â
âIâm gonna leave this here,â she placed it on the table. âIâll be back in a bit.âÂ
âThanks Blake,â you thanked as she left.Â
Once she was gone you quietly giggled and mumbled âoh my god,â under your breath.Â
âYou know, she kept teasing me asking when I was going to ask you out. And donât even get me started on Morgan,â he chuckled, shaking his head.Â
Your jaw dropped and eyes furrowed. âDid everyone else know but me?âÂ
He pressed his lips in a thin line, âpretty much.âÂ
âI must be a shitty profiler,â you half joked.
âAbsolutely not,â he said in the most comforting voice. He brushed the hair that had fallen in front of your face behind your ear.Â
âYouâre an amazing profiler.âÂ
You smiled that smile he loved so much. The one where you couldnât hide your joy and your nose crinkled.Â
âSo, how do you think youâll spend all those moments with me?â you inquired with a bit of a teasing tone.Â
âDoing anything sweetheart,â he answered seriously. He looked at you with awe written all over your face. âI'm ready for anything with you.âÂ
âin omnia paratusâ - ready for anything

The phrase to look for if you want to dig into this topic more is "non-human personhood". I wrote an essay on the subject fairly recently [link], but to summarize the relevant bits for this: The state of being a "living thing worthy of basic respect" (to borrow your words) is best summarized as "personhood", which is distinct from "being human". Every human is a person, but not all persons are human. There's long-running debates about where exactly the line between "person" and "not a person" lies, so there's no shortage of material to read through if you want to dive in. (There are even well-reasoned arguments that certain non-living beings, like true Artificial Intelligence, should be considered to have personhood.)
The reason that "dehumanization" is the word usually used for the idea of stripping someone of their personhood is because society at large treats "human" and "person" as synonyms, when (in certain senses) "human" could be considered a sub-set of "person". Changing that general view is a long-term goal that will require a fair bit of cooperation among advocates for non-human personhood. It'll probably be a difficult task (as with most large-scale social change), but one that many people have been passionate about for a long time, so you're not alone there. It's just a matter of knowing what to look for in order to find each other.
begging folks to understand that dehumanization actually means a removal of basic respect. the âhumanâ is a stand-in for âliving thing worthy of basic respectâ. and i agree, that really isnât an ideal thing when considering the nonhuman, but i truly dont know of a better word that could be easily understood. i do have many words to say about how fucked up it is that dehumanization is so tied to animalizing someone or making them into an objectâas if such things do not also deserve respect?âbut dehumanization is not synonymous with those things
#If it isn't obvious#this is a subject I am very passionate about#These are important conversations to have#both between individuals and as a community#I can definitely encourage writing those many words you've got on the ties between dehumanization and animalizing#The more we talk about these things#the more visible the conversation can become#and the more people we can (hopefully) get thinking about what it means to be a person

hi! i noticed you learnt about what ryan condal said regarding blood and cheese. it wasâŠsomething. i would like to know your thoughts on the matter. though it would be completely understandable if you need sometime to gather them together or if you would rather not at all! thank you and bye!
Hello beloved, thank you so much for asking me! Iâd love to share my opinion!
If anyoneâs wondering, @rhaenelle is referring to this interview where Ryan Condal essentially says he believes that Blood & Cheeseâs brutality and heinousness was exaggerated by the Greens in a propagandistic attempt to convince their subjects that Rhaenyra and Daemon are the worst villains ever born, hence why he toned the event down; to show us what he thinks is the accurate version of Jaehaerysâ murder.
Now, I am aware that Condal had already warned us that HOTD was going to be a feminist retelling of the events of F&B, which practically means that his plan has always been to whitewash the everlasting fuck out of Rhaenyra. So what do I think about this?
Well, for starters, I think that Ryan Condal is an excellent businessman. He knows what kind of tropes are going to make the audience engage with his show. He understands that people need a hero to cheer for and a villain to hate, therefore he removed the moral ambiguity from all of the characters and divided them into two categories: the Blacks, enlightened revolutionaries full of passion, deserving of admiration and correct in everything they do, and the Greens, pious fools with a moral superiority complex who are stack in the ways of the past and commit despicable crimes. The average viewer does not possess the intelligence to comprehend that both parties have their good and bad moments, and that theyâre both correct in fighting for what each believes is rightfully theirs. Simultaneously, he benefits from the modern trends that want women in media to take revenge when they are wronged and emerge as triumphant girlbosses, because of course a white upper class womanâs suffering in a western world (or Westeros) society has everything to do with her gender and nothing to do with her personality or decisions (even if this works solely for Rhaenyra, because Alicent seems to be held accountable for every single one of her actions). Finally, it is obvious that Condal is trying to appease disgruntled Daenerys fans, so he has rebuilt Rhaenyra into this tortured martyr that wishes to change the world for the better in an attempt to make her resemble her great granddaughter six times removed.
For all of these reasons, I find it very logical that he is going out of his way to minimise the tragedy the Greens experience. It just doesnât make Rhaenyra look good and honestly, who wants that? The producers saw how unhappy Dannyâs stans were when they made her lose her shit; theyâre not going to make the same mistake twice. They donât want their show to tank like the last season of GOT did, so theyâll do everything in their power to keep the audience happy. And itâs working! Whatâs the last thing Condal says in this clip? âYou kinda start rooting for [Blood and Cheese]!â and boy oh boy, the TB stans sure do! Literally hundreds of memes that rejoiced at Jaehaerysâ death were posted on X this week, with tens of thousands of likes. But when Lucerys died, it was presented as the most foul thing to ever happen in the ASOIAF universe. It is the TB supporters that dictate which child murder is good and which is bad, and that decision usually depends on which child came out Rhaenyraâs womb, not letâs say, the fact that one kid was a toddler that could barely walk, while the other was a teenager that laughed at the disabled person he mutilated himself.
Itâs all just marketing
That being said, I want to clarify that I understand why Condal and the HOTD producers do what they do, but being a good entrepreneur does not necessarily make you a literary genius. Now, Iâm not gonna explain why stripping Rhaenyra off of every character trait that made her interesting is a bad decision and that in their attempt to remove the blame from her so that they can elevate her as this righteous patron of feminism, theyâre accidentally removing all of her agency and turning her simply into a victim, because I have a whole blog dedicated to that. But letâs just say that presenting Rhaenyra as this sexually liberated idol thatâs incapable of evil, when in fact sheâs an entitled aristocrat whoâs completely at the mercy of men around her, from her father to her husbuncle, is the most performative activism move ever pulled in recent TV history, as well as pushing the narrative that Alicent suffers from internalised misogyny because duh, a woman can only be good and a feminist if she supports Rhaenyra, not when she pursues her own interests.
Ultimately, I think we just have to accept that this show is not meant for TG fans. We are not going to find any satisfaction in it. Everything that was unique and admirable about the Greens in the book has vanished. Their family dynamic is fucked up, Alicentâs children hate her, Aegon and Halaena cannot stand one another, Alicent is constantly a victim and never someone that chases her own ambitions, Halaena is very vague, Aemond appears to be more angsty than angry, Aegon is a stupid rapist, Jaehaerysâ death was turned into a mockery, Alicole was weaponised in order to make us shit on Alicent and Criston even more and so on. This show barely caters to us because weâre not making them any money.
The reason that there are more TB than TG stans is because (Iâm gonna get so much fucking hate for this) most people who watch TV are fucking morons. I swear, when F&B came out 6 years ago, no one gave a flying fuck about Rhaenyra, because we all understood that everyone involved in the Dance of the Dragons was fucked up in their own way and that the message of this story, just like the general message of ASOIAF, is that nobody deserves to sit on that fucking throne. We were all in agreement about that. But then this fucking show came along and all the oblivious simpletons that swallowed whatever the producers shoved down their throats, grabbed the book and decided that âWoah, this book is obviously a critique on patriarchy and Rhaenyra is obviously the victim of the storyâ! As if GRRM, the man who said that he doesnât sit down and think âOh, Iâm going to write a woman nowâ but instead he believes women to be people just like men, with complex personalities, would ever do that. And they just canât believe that it is possible for book!Rhaenyra to be an evil racist classist full of entitlement! Surely it must be because the Greens are rewriting history! Thereâs no way GRRM, the man that created Cersei fucking Lannister, would ever make a female character thatâs vicious and crazy just because she feels like it! Yâall need to sit down for a moment. I say this as a radical feminist that supports the 4B movement: youâre projecting your own ideas onto Georgeâs work. Not all the media we consume has to reflect our ideologies, but if you think that it has to, then this book isnât the anti misogynistic masterpiece you wish it was.
Like, when it comes to F&B, I am firmly anti Targaryen and did not wish for any side to win. I wanted them all wiped out to be honest. But when it comes to HOTD, Iâm TG basically out of spite at this point.
All in all, I just think that things are going to go downhill for us from this point on. Theyâll just keep glorifying the Blacks until the very end.

Being a ranger I spend a lot of time alone in the wilderness for hours in the company of one of four co workers.
One such worker for the purpose of this post we shall refer to as Dave.
Dave is a very quiet man. He confesses that if conversation happens too quickly and for too long he gets tired so we often work in silence. He's very polite and good natured but it's obvious that he would happily live and work alone for the rest of his life given the option.
He's very much in the previous generation of ranger, a practical man in his fourties or fifties happy to be kept physically busy for a day and then be sent home with some pay. I had to show him how to use a work issued smart phone.
Meanwhile the rest of the team is made up of the current generation of rangers; openly nurodivergent queer women in their twenties or thirties who work this job because it's the only setting where we can vaguely look sane.
So Dave sticks out a bit. It's really nice when he opens up though because he's an impulsive individual when left to his own devices and has plenty of stories to tell if the mood takes him. I really like working with Dave.
Anyway, one day we've got a job that takes a three hour hike to get to and early on the topic of deer comes up.
I hadn't realised this was the first time we had discussed deer, but blatantly it was. Dave's entire demeanour changes, there's a bit of passion in his voice, but it's also hushed as if he's talking about something sacred.
"Deer are my favourite animal." He says.
I'm also eager to hear Dave talk about himself, so I encourage him to say more.
"I'd love to be a deer myself."
And more
"If a genie offered me the opportunity to become a deer I'd take it. I wouldn't even stop to ask what the price was."
And more
"Sometimes I feel like I'm a deer having a dream about being a human.*
And there I am, a long time commuter to the therian/otherkin community keeping up the encouraging face of someone being politely interested, knowing that this man is straight up a therian with no frame of reference.
And I decided that I wouldn't push the subject outside of the bounds of what Dave is comfortable with, I wouldn't try to teach him the terms "Therian" or "Otherkin" but absolutely I would talk with this man as if he's a deer.
And it's a bit magical really. He's an impulsive individual so I have to talk him out of some risky choices every so often and "this is why deer like you keep getting stuck in fences" has become this magical phrase that allows him to step down from a mistake with a bit of a smile on his face.

I wish you would do a full post dedicated to toxicity or angsty shortcomings in relationships with the boys đ« I loved reading the toxic head canons â€ïž
angst hurts my heart but !!
RIIZE RED FLAGS based on astrology~
hyung line edition âïž
reminder this is based off of MY opinions of their birth chart placements + aspects and is not exact fact unless I knew them myself and I am not a professional astrologer
Shotaro
Vague - not exactly a red flag but he cares a lot about the things going on within his personal life but sometimes he might prefer to keep things to himself due to paranoia of how his s/o will react or if theyâd use it against him..he might have a fear of betrayal that can make him be pretty vague and unable to tell his s/o a lot of things in regards to him which can feel secretive to someone who wants a relationship with open info
Intense - His Scorpio moon paired with his Cap venus leads to a need for loyalty as well as his moon/mercury aspect making him very observant of your words and even remembering things you said a longgg time ago which can be overwhelming and feel even persecuting to some. He might also be paranoid in the relationship of cheating or disloyalty.
Coldness- When he's upset he might have a tendency to be cold yet indirect. He has a scorpio mercury and when upset or protecting themselves they can say things that really hurt or could be pretty cutting. He also has a libra mars so he'd be pretty passive aggressive or indirect with his upset.
Eunseok
Nonchalant- (reminder that nonchalant means that a person cares but acts in a way that suggests indifference/disinterest) He can sometimes be too nonchalant and can make someone overall feel as though he has no passion in the relationship when really he does but just doesn't think you have to be lovey dovey 24/7 or he cant express his passion super well as times
Outburst- Eunseok has a cap moon and moon/saturn aspects paired with a mutable mars so he doesn't express his emotions well or bottles them up which can lead to him getting triggered at random and having a spontaneous outburst out of NOWHEREEE due to suppressed feelings which can be super problematic to some
Insensitive- itâs not on purpose or with malicious intent but Eunseok can sometimes not realize that though a situation isnât a big deal to him to someone else it might be, he also can forget the more subjective side of things which can accidentally hurt peoples feelings
Sungchan
Sensitive - His pride is high and his reaction to things may be 3x more dramatic than the actual event that happened. When he's been hurt emotionally (whether it was intentional or not) he has a hard time letting go of what happened and might even give a silent treatment until he feels you've shown remorse.
Insecure - He cares a lot about what other people think of him and that can bleed into his relationships. He might act one way in public but another way in private which can make his words/actions seem insincere or disingenuous.
Internal struggles- Has a hard time balancing his feminine side and masculine side and what I mean is he is someone super emotional and feels his emotions very deeply but might try to cover that side of him up with a masculine facade which can bring tension.
Wonbin
Avoidance - He might refuse to acknowledge the red flags or obvious shortcomings/problems in the relationship or himself and may take a long time fully accepting or facing these problems as they are or has a weak approach in attempting to fix or acknowledge the problems. Idealizes a lot of aspects and tends to withdrawal when things donât match his vision.
Procrastination- Once again, has a hard time facing things head on and takes a while to put action into something and avoids the messier more negative emotions that one must face in relationships; he could also take a long time to let the relationship reach the next more serious levels.
Stubborn- It's hard to change his mind about certain things..in arguments he'll try to pull a "lets agree to disagree" but it's a topic where you both need to be on the same page. He might even just straight up go mute in arguments if he doesn't feel like his opinion was valued enough.

random astrological jam
just some absolutely random thoughts I had today while working:
â„ the strongest "mothering mother" I've ever seen is the 4th house Leo Sun with Cancer IC. we all know how lionesses protect their cubs. this quality goes to extremes when one of the most family-oriented signs rules the family house... my aunt has this placement, and she is so passionately devoted to our family. sometimes, she gives me the vibes of Dominic Toretto. we also laugh about how she can change the subject of literally any conversation to her daughter. - the weather is getting worse. - my daughter once became ill duringïżœïżœsuch weather... - wow, his sport skills are amazing. - you know, my daughter used to be a captain of baseball team when she studied at school. - I think there's something wrong with my stomach. - you even have no idea what terrible diarrhea my daughter once had. (her daughter is around 30 already...)
â„ people with strong mutable placements, how often do people tell you that you seem taller than you actually are? or they thought that you were in fact taller than you are?
â„ having Cancer ASC and/or the Moon in the 1st house, along with Scorpio Sun, really creates an "angel in disguise" impression. people with these placements look SO DAMN innocent but then you begin to know them better...
â„ itâs so funny how strong Leo placements can be so obvious in their âgodlyâ self-perception, to the point where you can't even be angry with them. my friend has a Leo stellium (Sun, Mars, Mercury). it was my birthday, so we were planning to have a party at a restaurant. she was the only one who arrived late, and it took her more than 30 minutes after the planned time. and the first thing she said when she arrived wasnât âhappy birthdayâ or âsorry for being lateâ etc. it literally was:
- just look at me. I look so damn gorgeous today, donât you think so?
I thought I was going to die laughing.
â„ aspects of Mercury with Uranus/Chiron can make a person having a rhotacism or some other difficulties with pronunciation. for example, my former classmate and I both struggle with the letter "R" in our speech. however, my Mercury and Uranus form a trine, so people usually don't even notice it unless they are trying to listen for it intentionally. on the contrary, my classmate had a square between them. sometimes it was really hard for people to understand her.
â„ I believe that even though Capricorn ASC people may have other strong placements, they look their best wearing minimalistic clothes. like they are so self-sufficient that the rule "the simpler, the better" works for them 100% of the time.
â„ maybe it has another name in English or I misspelled it somehow (please let me know if you know what it's called). but I haven't seen any articles about Doryphory/Doryphoros and the Charioteer of the Sun in English. however, it's very popular among post-Soviet astrologers.
if you don't know, here's the idea: the Sun is the King, and Doryphory is its supportive power, like a squire. it's the planet that comes before the Sun. check it out. it can, together with the Ascendant, reveal the first impression from you. on the other hand, the planet after the Sun - the Charioteer - can show what you're remembered for in the end.
for example, my Sun is in the 1st house and the first planet behind (clockwise) is my 12th house Mars. Iâm always told that I look like self-collected, confident go-getter at first glance. however, Mercury which goes after Sun usually leaves people feeling that I am overthinking and a little nervous. my sisterâs Doryphory is Gemini Mercury (harshly squared, however). sometimes it really seems challenging for her to stop talking. she looks like such a chatterbox. however, people usually remember her for her good looks. her Sun is followed by Venus. as for my grandma, her Doryphory is Moon and the Charioteer is Mercury. she is the most prominent example of someone who often says or does something emotionally and then thinks about whether it was the right thing to do or not. Thank you for reading! Have a nice day! Picture credits: Pinterest

"Now I've had the time of my life No, I never felt like this before Yes, I swear it's the truth And I owe it all to you"
This is a very, very special drawing for me. âš
In September of last year, I watched Dancing With The Stars' "Step Into the Movies" special again, at the end of which they recreate "The Time of My Life" scene from Dirty Dancing. And that sent me on a nostalgia trip back to my high school theater days over a decade ago now, where the drama club accepted my idea to do a "Time of Our Lives" theme, and a performance for that song Ă la Glee. Mind you, I was mainly the stage manager/techie sort, but I did some scenes for the showcases, and participated in this song with my then-boyfriend, along with two other couples.
And while we were hanging out in the green room backstage, a friend took some pictures of us. Including the one that directly inspired this drawing of Webby + Lena.
This started out as a memory remix of that photo, after watching the DWTS special, because I thought these two lovebirds would be really cute subjects for it.
But once I got going, it turned into a love letter, for many things.
As part of the remix aspect of it, I now picture myself in Lena's spot in the photo, getting to have the short hair I wish I had had back then, and getting to wear a suit and tie! (Yes, in the original photo, I am wearing the dress and red bow Webby's sporting here, and I have long hair. đ Though I will say here that the little heart necklace she's wearing is exactly like the one I had, too! :)) Drawing this was really cathartic for my nonbinary self. đ
And as for Webby, in this remix, she represents someone that, in retrospect, I wish I had shared this moment with from back then. In many ways, she really was the Webby to my Lena. đđđ
(Literally) beyond the subjects of this though, this is indeed very much a love letter to a lot of things, to passions. The background is pretty much a replica of the drama classroom wall we were in front of for the photo, at least as far as layout goes, with a few direct recreations of things that were on the wall and on the table there. Everything else was me being a passionate (theatre) nerd.
(Details (many details) of said nerdiness and alternate versions below the cut!)
I've included un-blurred and background-only versions (and a version with drop shadow lines on the girls, because why not? it's a cool effect!) below, but I just want to point out the details, because I'm so dang proud of this.
The posters/programs for The Phantom Blot of the Opera, Featherspray, Chickago, and My Fair Dewey are obvious duck-parody references to their real-world counterparts (with the latter being the exact poster they use in DuckTales, in Dewey's dream in "Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!" So thanks, Dewey! đ). The Featherspray one was also included because Hairspray was one of the shows we did in high school! And lemme just say, creating theater posters is really fun!!
The MJ the Musical poster and the half-shown Notre Dame de Paris "Duckbill" right behind Lena's head are particularly special to me, since they (along with Phantom) are my favorite musicals, and getting to draw those two was especially fun!
The L'Orange Theater poster in the top-right is a bunch of duck easter eggs in one - the L'Orange Theater is mentioned and seen in the very first episode of DuckTales 1987, and of course, there's Aquarioon from DT17! Looks like it toured in Duckburg a long time ago. đ
And the sheet music is the DuckTales theme! (Or at least the left side of it :P)
The "Congrats" card, calendar (the whale for upper half was my own touch), folder, page of random backstage stuff behind Lena's head (which includes little Star Trek and Darkwing Duck references), and golden "Theatre" card (with my old director's favorite quote) are directly from the photo (or at least based on what I could see through its blurriness đ), as is the very edge of a cast photo in the upper-right. The purple note (totally not with any secret messages whaaaaat) below that, the certificate of excellence, and the little pride heart pins everywhere are little garnishes/dedications. đ
The stage/theater diagram below the certificate is really cool, because that's a direct recreation (+ another hidden message) of a project a friend and I did for stagecraft back in our freshman year - I was even able to copy my own handwriting for the labels! đđ
The "Time of Our Lives" poster is a reference to the showcase I mentioned above that inspired all this, though the real-life poster looked very different, from what I remember.
The green bag below is sorta a nod to the secret pal exchanges we used to do during shows. đ
And finally:
The Glittering Goldie show poster is me just having an absolute blast drawing her once again and coming up with something for her Blackjack days! And bonus - I'll be posting a gradient-only version of Goldie tomorrow! Really happy with how she turned out!
And the "All the World's a Stage" poster is me combining all of my theatre nerdiness with my passion for space and a good pun! đ
ANYWAY...
I learned a lot with this drawing, about creating and about myself.
And I just had so, so much fun with it - it was all love, all passion, all happiness for this one. đđđ
Wishing the same for all of you. âš
Love, Astro đ
#DuckTales#Webby Vanderquack#Lena Sabrewing#weblena#my art#long post#I just have a lot of feelings for this one đ„č#(the post itself kinda is a love letter? for future me as much as past me and present me. yeah let's go with that)#for real though still cackling over my design for the Phantom Blot of the Opera poster XD

Your yandere is the 'hide the zombie bite' type of guy.Â
TW: yandere themes, disease themes (if that makes you nervous please proceed with caution. I personally wrote this to cope with fear of zombie virus). Angst at first, wholesome then. Also my english is hrr drr eww.
âI bet my ass you were bitten,â you said coldly.
One couldnât look at Michael without tears. From the very morning he looked⊠unwell. He clearly had a fever, and a strong one; despite this, he did his best to cheer you up and even tried to make awkward jokes, but when he thought you werenât looking, he would quickly roll up the sleeve of his sweater and look at his wrist anxiously. His (more so than usual) erratic behavior made it straight up obvious. You put two and two together easily and played along with him for a while, but honestly? All this would be charming if it weren't lethal.
It seemed impossible for Michael to blush any more than he already was, and yet he managed.
âBiten?! What do you mean?â his nervous laughter turned into a strained cough, but he immediately pulled himself together. âIt's because of the flu, right? Y/N, I swear, Iâm just a bit under the weather. Yesterday it was terribly coldâŠâ
âIn the middle of July?â you raised an eyebrow. âBy the way, since when do you wear sweaters in the summer?â
âI love this sweater, after all, you gave it to me!â Michael exclaimed passionately. Well, at least that was true. âOur 32nd date, remember?â he added dreamingly.Â
âDonât change the subject, Michael, youâre being ridiculous,â said you tiredly. That was hell of a night, with him, covered in cold sweat, restless and moaning, clinging to you like there's no tomorrow (and there probably wasn't). âPlease, show me your arm. Just let me see the bite and be over it.â
Michael hid his arm behind the back quickly and forced a smile. He never was a good liar.Â
'Y/N, honey, you h-have to believe me,' he choked on his own words with another cough, much stronger this time, and that cough was louder than words. When he could breathe again, you looked straight into his eyes, and whatever he read on your face made him let out a small sob.
âMichael,â you said with an unusual harshness in your voice. If he chose to be a little whiner, you should have taken responsibility for you two. âI'm literally traveling through abandoned cities with my crazy stalker who just won't shut up about how exactly he was obsessing over me before the zombie apocalypse. Is there anything else left that we are hiding from each other?â
He shook his head, unable to speak.
âWas that a yes or no?â
âNo,â Michael whispered and, with a gesture full of despair, hid his burning face in his hands. His shoulders shuddered slightly.
You took a small step forward and reached your hand forward as if to comfort him.
âMichael,â you whispered. âMichael, hush, please.â
He peeked at you through his fingers with both horror and hope. You finally placed your hand on his shoulder and gently stroked it.
âHush, no need to twitch. Unlike someone, I donât bite,â you smiled weakly. And at that moment he finally lost it and burst into tears in full force. You held him tightly, hugging him with all your strength, feeling his fever rise and knowing that even now you would never leave him. Especially now.
* * *
âI thought you were above the âhiding a zombie biteâ trope,â you joked awkwardly as you bandaged Michaelâs arm with a clean cloth. At this point it wouldn't help him any more than a bar of chocolate, but at least he'd spend this day as a human being and not as a scared abandoned pet.
âI am, in fact,â he said and gave you a small smile. âWould it be any other group of survivors, I wouldnât hide it.â
"Oh?!" you poked his shoulder playfully. âDo you particularly hate me or what?â
"No, not at all!" he said quickly. His mood seemed to have changed for the better now. âNot at all, Y/N, really. I... just don't want this to end. I donât want us to end.â
He definitely needed painkillers. You turned to the cabinet where the medications were kept.
"Explain yourself."
âEverything... Absolutely everything was going so perfectly,â Michael said sadly. âYou and I are finally together, alone in the whole world. Everything was as I always dreamed. You have only me, I have only you, no one and nothing can separate us and we will never part. It was heaven. I just didn't want this to end. Not now, not ever. Y/N, I swear, I have never been happier than during the zombie apocalypse.â
âMy friend, you're not right in the head,â you rolled your eyes.
He grinned. âTell me something I don't know. But really, I was utterly happy all this time. Were you?" he looked up at you.
âYou can be funny sometimes,â the corner of your mouth twitched.
âWas funny,â he sighed. âI think this is how we should say it now.â
âNo, this isnât,â you said sternly. âOpen your mouth now and drink this. That's it, good boy. What if you come back as a friendly zombie?â
Michael laughed in disbelief. âIt doesnât work that way,â he said. âNo matter how much I adore you now, I will forget everything very soon. I'll be just as dead as before I met you, only⊠deader. Although, of course, the thought of eating you has always been tempting...â
âYouâre terrible,â you snorted. "No, seriously though. Iâm positive that something will remain? You may not be able to learn nuclear physics, but you will remember at least something, and, of course, I will help you with this.â
The meaning of your words did not reach him right away. Then Michael shook his head furiously.
âY/N, no,â he said pleadingly. âDon't even think about it. It's too dangerous."
"Why not?" you shrugged. If he chose to be a little whiner, all you have left was to save both of you. âWeâll find you a nice collar and gag. Would you prefer it pink or black?â
âThis is not a joke,â he protested, and then he realized that you werenât joking.
âŠYou sat there, hugging each other, thinking about tomorrow with horror, but also with hope.
âPromise me,â Michael whispered. âI donât care if itâs pink or black, but it should have a âY/N's Personal Propertyâ tag.â
You kissed his cheek tenderly.
"Promise".

Did you guys hear Disneyland Cast Members voted to strike?
It was nearly unanimous too, 99% of the unionized cast members voted in favor of the strike. This doesn't necessarily mean they will strike, more that when the union rep shows up to the negotiation table on Monday they'll have that extra bit of leverage. Hopefully that'll be enough to win them living wages and such. I don't have anything intelligent to say, I just feel a kind of way about this subject, I'm going to put my opinions under the cut.
Ok, look, I love Disneyland. Love it with a passion. You know what reminded me this was happening and prompted me to look up the story? I was thinking of updating this card I made for one of the many games I've come up with to play in Disneyland because I have a weird variety of hyper-fixation when it comes to that park specifically.
So I am not speaking an ounce of hyperbole when I say Disneyland is my favorite place in the world.
But! Whoever the hell is making the big decisions around there needs to get their head out of their ass. I don't know if I should be blaming Bob Iger or Josh D'Amaro for the way the parks have been since the pandemic, but I'm going to blame both. I can deal with them experimenting with Genie Plus (I hate it but I'm used to capitalism), and I can sort of deal with the prices (I can't afford them easily but I'm saving up), but Disneyland has very clearly been trying to cut labor costs for a while now and it's incredibly baffling to watch. It feels like the parks are being run by somebody with a business degree from a sketchy "college" and zero experience with the real world.
They're cutting back on shows, overworking their existing staff, and skipping regular maintenance so they can operate the park with a smaller maintenance team. Overall it results in a worse experience for the customer, making it less likely that they'll convert new guests into returning fans like myself. While Disney World is a major tourist attraction that most people consider a once in a life time experience, Disneyland has always had a steady revenue from local Californians that return again and again. If you frequent forums about the parks you hear all about folks who live in SoCal that buy their annual pass (I know that's not what it's currently called, but that's what it is) and use it to get into the parks just to have dinner or rove around and maybe grab a churro. They might not be paying for Iger's next yacht, but those folks are providing a reliable revenue stream, and they go back again and again because for decades Disneyland has maintained a "magical" atmosphere.
And I feel like it's fairly obvious that the front line workers are the ones that make Disneyland what it is. Right? Like I'm not crazy, we all agree Disneyland would be nothing without the hard work of these cast members, right?
Why are they-? You need front line workers, why wouldn't you-? Do they not have years of research and experience backing up how beneficial a well paid staff is? I love the Incredicoaster but if all I wanted was thrill rides, Six Flags is an hour closer and a whole lot cheaper. I'm going for the complicated rides that require their own pit crew like Mickey's Runaway Railroad. Why are we even still having this conversation? I get that people like Bob Iger are a bit insulated from the rest of us, but the relationship between a happy staff and profit is well documented. Why wouldn't they just...? In the Disneyland subreddit a retired cast member post the Benefits Binder he got back when he worked for Disneyland and this thing was thick, it included health, retirement, and stock options. Somebody somewhere must have known that whittling down benefits while stagnating pay was not sustainable. Right?!
Like I said, I don't have anything intelligent to add to this conversation, but to be honest, I think everything intelligent to add has already been added. I'm just annoyed for my own sake and downright pissed for the sake of the cast members. I hope they get everything they ask for on Monday, and if they don't, I hope the strike knocks some sense into everybody it needs to.
#Disneyland#Foggy rambles#Foggy rants#disneyland california#Disneyland strike#opinions and mostly rhetorical questions#but seriously is this not basic common sense?#you can't run a business without a crew#what the fuck do they think we're paying for? the great honor of being in the presence of their most profitable IP's?#I love it because a whole lotta people that got mouths to feed devoted a whole lotta work into making it a wonderful place to be#pay them

Honestly, when it comes to canon, I feel like the âWillCareâ theory is way too overlooked and despised in the fandom. For those who don't know: âWillCareâ is the theory that William actually cared for his family, and many believe that, well.. He didn't. My point is, such surface-level overview of a character's psychology is just... Wrong. When it comes to villainous characters, people just LOVE to exaggerate their recklessness and carelessness, like âoh yeah he doesn't care about anyone or anything cuz he's so cold and cool and stuff đ€Șâ, and that's just an understanding of a character so dry it genuinely makes me sad. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I've seen people literally getting attacked for not agreeing to William being a literal heartless monstrosity
In my opinion, Afton is (OBVIOUSLY) affected by a mental illness, which makes him less empathetic and more risky with his decisions which leads to him displaying serious neglect towards people he should care about
He does not know right and wrong, exposing his family to danger he doesn't see as âthat seriousâ, and he often prioritizes minor victories in his passion over them, which, obviously, creates an appearance of a heartless person, but could actually be a result of him just being... Unstable. Ill.
When it comes to people who are ill, you can't just choose one side of a spectrum and proclaim you're correct. When trying to prove their point, i've seen a lot of people say something like âhe did (bad thing), (bad thing) and (bad thing), obviously he doesn't care about anyone! But don't bring up (that one thing where he displayed actual care) because it's overshadowed by the amount of the bad deedsâ
Why not take valid arguments into account? The relationships of a character is not some rock-concrete âyes or noâ question, it's not âone or the otherâ, and I think many people fail to understand that. For example, if William actually did not care about anyone, why would he continuously tell Elizabeth not to go to Circus Baby? What would be the point of that? If he did not care what child would be the test subject of the kidnapping mechanism, why care if it's Elizabeth or not? In fact, if it was her, it would be even beneficial to him, as nobody would question his innocence as the owner of the restaraunt if it was his child that dissapeared, and it would be just one less mouth to feed. You can't just leave that out as âinferiorâ to the arguments that prove his horribleness. Why would he organize a birthday party at his restaraunt for the Crying Child if he did not care? And, when it comes to the movie, why would William give away personal belongings of the victims, his âtrophiesâ, to his daughter? Why would he care to make his kid happy with yet another toy if he could just keep it somewhere, hidden? I think it's obvious he viewed his children as his children, just very negligently exposing them to danger and hurting them with his experiments or his blind devotion to his work. When he stabs Vanessa, you can see a moment of thought and regret in his eyes â which is, of course, just a speculation, but adds to the point.
I feel like people just hate the assumption of Afton being actually human with human feelings, which are, surprise-surprise!, complex, and complexity is what makes a good character. You don't need a character to be literal Satan to be considered a worthy villain, and accepting their humane characteristics does not equal justification for their wrongs. In fact, if you cannot consider a character a villain if they're not the incarnation of evil in their every aspect, it's possible that you find any positive or neutral feature of theirs a worthy excuse that cancels out their every wrongdoing and makes them âless of an antagonistâ, which puts your understanding of right and wrong to the question.
Just to be clear, I am not trying to attack anyone in this post, I am not seeking to start an argument â all I'm saying is, if you take EVERYTHING into account, it is false to decide on just one part of a character's behaviour and call it absolute. You should be equally accepting of all opinions and not start unnecessary fights on the internet because somebody thinks differently. Be nice spread love
btw guys english is not my mother language don't question my wording I don't know what I'm saying either

Hey, teacher! Aka my damn motorcycle Catwin AU! Part 2! Cause I'm easily swayed x
In this AU, Edwin is a school teacher, and Thomas owns a really cool motorcycle :'')
I think its pretty clear, but just for the record: I am taking various liberties with characters etc here
I also know nothing about astrology, friends x
Edwin sighs as he looks over the latest batch of exam scores from his class. High grades from his studious pupils as usual, lower grades from the boys who were almost equally as bright, but didn't put forth the effort. A long-standing issue, one the school board doesnât seem half as concerned with as he is. Now alone in his classroom, Edwin hears the final bell, the ensuing floor-shaking exodus of students to the open air. He leans back in his seat, vowing to try to come up with some sort of solution to this problem later.  Â
He packs some essays to read, homework that still need to be graded, into his briefcase, retrieves his coat from the rack in the corner on the way to the door. He very much needs a nice cup of coffee.Â
"Hey, Mister Edwin!" A loud shout echoes from the end of the hallway, and Edwin frowns, to himself, turning to face the student that the other teachers have affectionately likened to a bird.  Â
"Mr. Finch, I have repeatedly told you to call me Mr. Payne. Not to refer to me by my first name, and especially not within the school grounds."Â
The teen has the grace to look apologetic, yet in pure young-spirited fashion, physically shrugs off the comment just a moment later. âIâm sorry Mr. Payne. But I have good news for you! Check it out!" The young man pulls a thick book out of his shoulder bag, flips it open to a page, bookmarked with a grey and blue checkered bit of laminated paper, thrusts the turned book and open page at Edwin, near bouncing with anticipation. Edwin bends his head and glances, inspects the writing, charts and scribbles. It's a large astrology analysis. On the top of the page, written in bold letters is 'Capricorn'. Below, Edwin skims through a far too large amount of text, even for an avid reader, and regrettably still unwillingly picks up phrases such as âYouâre in the market for a partnership, and you might be pleasantly surprised, Capricorn.â, âAny existing relationship can deepen through dialogue.â or âSaturn favours staying power, so look for a plus-one whoâs in it for the long haul.â Edwin skims faster, rereading the same few sentences to stall, making an estimate of a more natural seeming amount of time to read a prediction of his love life, from an astrology tome held up by a fifteen year old.Â
Next to all of this utter tripe, is a note stating 'check star alignment!' Â Â
Edwin can't help but smile, still, at the studentâs obvious enthusiasm for the subject.   Â
"Isn't that great news?" Monty Finch asks him with an answering smile, "Not only does your horoscope predict it, but I did in fact check, of course, and the star alignment today is also very favourable. Know what that means?" He adds in a conspiring, whispering tone.Â
"You have a bit too much free time and need to be assigned more homework?"Â Edwin asks, with a hint of a smile still on his cheeks and a tilt of his head to accompany his teasing intention. Â Â
The teen starts up his own analysis of the analysis, and Edwin knows if he doesn't put a stop to this conversation, Monty will keep talking, undeterred, for the next 20 minutes. "Alright, well Mr. Finch, thank you for sharing your inspiring passion for astrology. Enjoy your weekend." He pats the boy semi-affectionately on the shoulder, and brushes past him with long strides, beating a hasty retreat.Â
"Trust in the stars, Mr. Payne!"Â
Edwin tosses his brown leather shoulderbag into the passenger's seat of his car, pulls out of the school's parking lot, sighs deeply, rolls the windows down and lets the crisp air fill the car, rustle his hair.  Â
He passes the Allcott estate on his way into town, glances out the window at it as he passes, though he doesn't know what he expects to find. The outer gates are closed, locked, he can't really see past them, so he shrugs to himself, refocuses on the road. Â Â
Port Townsend is one of the most affluent in the state. The people who live here have money, and they like to show it off. The school Edwin works for is a private, all-boys school that prides itself on how many of its students move on to acclaimed universities and careers pre-planned by either doting or detached parents. The houses are beautiful and scenic, most of the people are shallow and nosy.   Â
Edwin pulls to a stop when he finds a good parking space, a few blocks away from his favourite coffee shop. It's small, locally owned, and one of Edwin's favourite things to do is order one of their dark roasts, with a scone, that is decidedly nothing at all like a bisquit, and settle in one of the overstuffed chairs by the window while he grades papers.  Â
When the little bell above the door softly chimes as he walks in, he's happy to see that his favourite barista is behind the counter, studiously arranging the pastries. "Hi Edwin!" She chirps, and immediately sets to the task of hand-grinding the beans for his coffee.  Â
âHello, Niko, good afternoon.â Edwin smiles at her and looks for a seat, settling in with a cursory glance through the window. The smile falls from his face. Â Â
He's utterly confused, instead, looks around to see if anyone has noticed that this is happening, or if he's just imagining it. A little shake of his head doesnât clear the vision; the sleek black and brown motorcycle parked next to the curb across from the cafĂ©. The man sitting on the bench near it in the lightest definition of the word âsittingâ, limbs spread akimbo across the furniture, head lolled back against the backrest. Â
"Quite weird, right? I gave him a cup of coffee to go, and then he didnât actually go. He pretty much fell right to sleep on that bench. I donât think thatâs a good position to sleep in. But, he looked so tired I don't have the heart to disturb him. And nobody has passed that bench, the bike is turned off and parked legally, so I don't think anyone minds. Have you ever seen a bike like that? I like his jacket, so cool!" Niko smiles, retrieves his scone and reaches for a mug just as the coffee finishes brewing. Edwin thanks her, but holds up a hand, silently asking her to wait as he chooses another corner of the coffee shop, making sure he can keep the bench and its occupant in his line of vision, though he can't pin down exactly why. Â
Probably just the novelty of it all. Port Townsend was a town steeped in tradition, both in values and a clockwork year-round schedule. The town council kept everything pretty, decent, and calm. If Edwin was completely honest with himself, it was the reason he settled here.  Â
He's interrupted from his wandering thoughts, when the sound of several high-pitched voices, barely audible over the loud clacking chorus of stiletto heels on well-maintained concrete reaches his ears.Â
Oh no. This is going to go really bad, really fast.Â
Edwin is out of his seat, ignoring Nikoâs questioning little âEdwin?â, and heading for the door before heâs even consciously considered the decision. As soon as heâs greeted by the warm air outside, heâs also greeted by the sight of one Esther Finch, and several members of the Homeownerâs Association. When that calculating gaze locks on Edwin, and stays so, Edwin spares a thought, a quick mental note, that Monty must have been wrong about the star alignment. He does not feel particularly pleasantly surprised, at all. Â

Pure vanilla cookie x reader
Hollyberry cookie x reader
White lily cookie x reader
Requested: how would the ancients act when having a crush on the reader? Also can you make it so white lily and pure vanilla and polyamorous please? Can you make them get jealous to. Iâm a sucker for jealous cookies. Gn reader pls
Tw: slight jealousy, slight non canon.
I am sick yet again so pardon the lack of response and quality in this one
Pure vanilla and white lily
Pure vanilla is already a calm and sweet cookie, much like his name, quite a pure personality with care for others. He is quite gentle with everyone including his close friends and his lover, white lily
Though he finds himself dotting on you much like he does with his love, swooning over you like a swan. You reminded him of the feeling he of so loved.
When crushing, pure vanilla acts like his usual vanilla self, conversing with you daily with a blush accompanying him along the way.
Pure vanilla tends to brush up against you and touch your hands, the excuse always being âyour cold, let me warm youâ
Inviting you to his kingdom he did, to meet someone special to him who was arriving today. He wasted no time introducing white lily as his partner to you, in which you both had said hello.
White lily took a liking to you quickly, you were kind, generous and smart. She liked those qualityâs, not to mention you were absolutely stunning. When pure vanilla and white lily are alone, they like to converse about you on how to court you in a well mannered fashion. The turtle always wins the race after all.
White lily loves when you accompany her and pure vanilla for a hour of joy through the gardens of there kingdoms, reading books, telling storyâs or just sitting in silence to enjoy the sensation of the surrounding environment.
She loves quality time, spending time with you and pure vanilla makes her feel at peace. Pure vanilla likes acts of service, though he prefers to give those acts, when receiving, he feels bad that he doesnât know how to give back.
Holly berry
Hollyberry is a strong, passionate and persistent individual who is already very protective over her family, friends and subjects.
You must have been strong hearted to catch the queens eye, spiking interest romantically was rare for her. But once she does, oh boy sheâs all over you. Hell she chased you around a table to say hi and give you the biggest hug she could (without cracking your dough that is).
When a event is held, you are always invited as a special guest, having the finest of berry juice just for you. She would have you sit right beside her if there were not a rule already in place where only the royal family may sit at the elegant table.
She would or wouldnât let you win if you every challenged her to a berry juice drinking contest depending on if she wants to impress you, or wants to see you cheer.
Hollyberry is physically affectionate with everyone, including you. Hugs are a must, but hey if you want a little peck on the cheek she doesnât mind-
Honestly she probably has tried to sneak a peck in or two, in which you caught her. The go to excuse being, âI thought there was something on your doughâ
Dancing with her is fun and tiring at the same time, sheâs just so strong that sometimes she forgets you donât have the stamina that she does and the strength she obtains.
I feel holly would be a very slight flirt when not a lot of guested were around, not to much to make it obvious, but enough to get you flushed with a red tint.

Hello to the 2 Zukka fans who may actually see this, i bring you Free Thoughts of a 2 am snacker!
Zukka hockey player/figure skater au
Now, i know what youâre thinking: Lydia! Tupp! This has already been done before!
And you would be correct! However! My brain has tweaked it in a way i have personally yet to see (wink wink nudge nudge drop the fic links if youâve read this before)
So! My thoughts on the subject:
Hockey Player Zuko and Figure Skater Sokka
Zuko, child figure skating prodigy who suffered a tragic accident, is hidden away for two years before he reemerges under his Uncleâs care as a fierce hockey competitor after everyone said heâd never skate again
Sokka, whoâs sister Katara became a World Junior Champion at 16* in ice hockey and who Sokka feels he can never live up to, enjoys after-hours figure skating on the same ice he works to maintain. Sokka, who watches singles programs galore and learns his favorites and recreates them, posting them to youtube for his 6 followers (Hakoda, Bato, GranGran, some kid name Aang, and two other anonymous strangers). Sokka who has a natural grace to him despite the obvious lack of formal training, who skates like heâs got everything and nothing to lose, whose love for the art shows in every glide and every turn. Sokka who gets discovered one day by an old grumpy coach who offers to give him a few tips. Sokka who is a fast learner and spends ages 14 to 18 quickly climbing the local ranks.
Zuko, who, at 16 faces a second injury that takes him out of hockey forever. Zuko, who has just been officially disowned as his own sister takes to the spotlight. Zuko, angry at the world, lashing out at everyone around, but goes willingly with his uncle when Iroh suggests a change of scenery 6 months into his recovery. Zuko who is determined to skate again, if only for himself, if only to prove that yes, he is strong enough to come back again. Zuko who strikes a deal with local ice rink that if he sits and runs the front counter during the day while his uncle runs the popular new tea shop inside the rink, he can use the rink after hours once his injury is healed enough. Almost 17 year old Zuko who stays late to reorganize some papers behind the counter one night and sees Sokka step onto the ice and go through vigorous warm ups and exercises. Zuko, who drifts a little closer and watches as Sokka is told he can skate anything he wants for the first skate. Zuko, hearing the song from the last program he ever skated come on through the speakers and watching as Sokka skates through it easily, with a passion Zuko himself had never managed to feel. Zuko, who occasionally stays behind to secretly watch a pretty boy skate and never gets caught for 4 more months. Zuko, who is finally cleared by his physical therapist to get back on the ice but with orders to take it slow, gliding carefully out onto well-taken-care-of ice for the first time in almost a year in skates very different from his last pair, and it feels strangely like coming home.
Sokka who watches a stranger hesitantly enter the rink. He comes to the rink on his nights off when everything at home becomes too much. He loves his sister and his parents- because Bato never needed to marry his dad to be a second father to him- and he even loves his sweet crazy old GranGran, but sometimes it all gets to be too much. They know heâs seriously training in figure skating now but theyâve never come to any of his recitals**. Its not that they dont care, but theres always something else going on. âOh, we cant, Katara has her out of state tournament that weekendâ or âOh no bud Im so sorry, Bato and I are going on a late anniversary trip that dayâ or even âI have too much homework, Sokka, Iâll come to the next one, promise!â The only one who never makes an excuse but he also never actually sees in the audience is GranGran (thisâll be important later on wink wink). So, when things get to be too much and Sokka gets tired of having to be the loudest person in the room just to simply be acknowledged, he comes to his safe place. The rink after hours. Sokka watches from the upper shadows as the stranger takes careful, measured, practiced glides. Like riding a bike for the first time in ages, theyâre hesitant at first before they slowly gain traction. At first, he thinks the stranger is just going to glide from one end to the other all night but instead he watches as they slowly begin a few exercises. Very familiar exercises. (Do you see where im going with this?) And then, they turn around, and Sokka is suddenly breathless because before him is the most beautiful boy- the most beautiful human- heâs ever seen. And sure, maybe Sokka has always fallen too fast and too hard, and sure, Sokka has literally never talked to this boy in his entire life, but Sokka looks at him and sees that look on his face and knows. âHeâs just like me.â
Zuko who keeps coming back and lingers before Sokka gets on the ice. Sokka who stays late to watch Zuko retrain himself. Piandao who is sick and tired of watching these two boys dance around each other when they could clearly be learning from one another because, though Zuko had not trained in figure skating in years, he had been a true prodigy and he picked it back up easier than he should have been able. Piandao who was Zukoâs first coach before his father transferred him to Zhaoâs guidance. (Jeong Jeong, a retired pro hockey player who is tired of listening to his husband bitch all day anout oblivious idiots because theyâre starting to remind him of himself and Piandao when they were young and headstrong.) Jeong Jeong who finally takes matters into his own hand and tells the boy who runs his front counter that Piandao would like for him to come to Sokkaâs next practice and then tells Piandao to âStop whining and do something now, Iâll see you at homeâ with a kiss on the cheek as the two boys shyly trade introductions.
Zuko who begins helping Sokka with his training even as he himself recovers and relearns. Sokka showing up on the nights Zuko skates alone with greasy takeout and the occasional baked good his GranGran made that day. Sokka and Zuko curling up on the couch in the back office watching old figure skating videos on an old laptop and Sokka finally realizing exactly who Zuko is as Zuko finally realizes Sokka is that one youtuber he watched for years when he was younger. Zuko laughing and telling him that the random subscriber Aang is actually a friend of his and the other anonymous subscriber was just Zukoâs second account after he lost the password to the first.
On one of their casual skate nights, once Zuko is back to full strength, Sokka suggests they learn a pairs skate tongether for fun. Ike a trust exercise!â He says as if he hasnt been dying to know what it would feel like to skate in tandem with Zuko since he first saw his face. Zuko agrees and he and Sokka find a program they both like. They decide whoâs skating what and then begin to fumble through learning their individual parts. A week or two later, they try it together for the first time, no music, and its not half bad. They continue to learn it together and notice that the more they skate together, the better they get individually. Zukoâs refined control gives Sokka a more polished look without smothering his passion while Sokkaâs passion and fluidity allows Zuko to loosen up and actually enjoy what heâs doing. (1 hour mark)
Eventually, they put it to music, and Piandao and Jeong Jeong emerge from the shadows at the end of the song. Piandao asks them if they want to learn their own pairs program to compete together this year. The two boys share a look and agree almost immediately. The next few months are spent learning the choreography. Sokka and Zuko both go through core strength training and lifting weights because Piandao is currently planning to have them both lift each other at some point in the program.
Time jumps forward to the competitions and Zuko and Sokka blow it out of the water. This time, Sokka spots his GranGran when Zuko is pointing out and waving to his Uncle Iroh near the top of the rink. Sheâs sitting with Zukoâs uncle and heâs elated to see her there and yet, disappointed that his family still hasnât come to support him. Time jumps again. Sokka and Zuko spends hours training and then hours on their off days hanging around Zuko and Irohâs house or even Irohâs tea shop. They ofc have spent all of this time in continual pining.
But, time jump to when theyâre both 18 and 19 and theyâve both just qualified to skate pairs at Junior Worlds for the second year and this year theyâre sure to win. Theyâre in Zukoâs kitchen, baking, and as theyâre waiting for the over timer to go off, a slow song comes on. Sokka, in contrast to his norm, is quiet and gentle in the way he offers Zuko his hand and they slow dance in the kitchen with flour in their hair. Theyâre a little giggly and high on adrenaline but neither are sure who leans in first, only that they are both very much on board with the whole kissing thing. Despite the years of tension, the kiss is tentative and sweet. They begin dating and it only makes their program better. The love they have for each other so clearly pours over into their skating.
This Junior Worlds is the first tike GranGran finally drags the rest of the family by the ear to come and watch Sokka compete and to Zukoâs surprise, he sees Aang and a few of his other friends in the audience. Sokka and Zuko win (to no ones surprise).
Insert sokka family angst and resolve here. Insert zuko family trauma etc here
Sokka and Zuko go om to do more pairs skating things and they live happily ever after etc ete
I ran out of steam there but its 3:10 in the morning and i started at 1:51. Hope you enjoyed, this has been 2 am thoughts with Lydia.
* i did minimal research here, be proud
** same thing but even less this fime
