Yesterday my anat & phys teacher called me, personally, a Nerdfighter, during lecture, in front of the entire class. And today I held a real brain from a deceased creature in my hands. I poked a stick into one of its many tubes and found a beautiful plexus there.. Thus was loosed forth some Gunk, which dripped onto my drawing of it - does the mind contaminate itself? What homogenized muscarinic tissues might we find in the spinal cord? What vital arboreal geodes comprise the cerebellum!

Just to let yall know (in case anyone is fretting about it because I know I would be if I was in this position) I did get the requests. I'm just having a bit of a mental health situation.

you don't have to turn your inbox off, or even anon, you can just turn images off asks and don't click on any links (<- just a smart thing to do in general). fearmongering amongst communities is something they want. it's all for a reaction and to cause distress in different fandoms. these are trolls. gross trolls, but they are trolls. they want to stir up fear into communities because they have nothing better to do.

don't close off an important part of your tumblr account in fear of attack, that is letting them win. just take measures to prevent these things if you want. you don't even have to do that, nobody's making you do anything.

i personally won't turn anything off because i really do not care about this sort of thing. i've been sent a lot worse over the years ive been in fandoms. my goal is to report any accounts that do anything, but i don't believe they will do anything to my account in the first place.

i feel terrible for people who have been targeted by this thing, and you are 100% allowed to do what makes you comfortable, including turning asks off entirely. i'm not minimizing the shit that people have been sent at all, and spreading the word is good. everyone can do what they want, including turning their inboxes fully off, these are just my two cents. people are allowed to be scared, it's scary, but that fear is what they want.

ok, i'll confess, since you asked: i sent the ask about the anton video to this blog specifically because i was going to make a riding joke, but i was a coward and backed out of adding it. forgive me!

Quick reminder as we head into Trump’s first week in office. We are about to see an onslaught of executive actions designed to strip of us our rights. We’ve seen this before.

Many of them won’t be legal, many of them won’t take effect immediately, and some of them will be just plain nonsense. Trump alone can’t change the law (yet anyway- that’s Congress) and there is an official government process for enacting most executive actions that works slowly.*

There will be time to fight against these orders—either by stopping them entirely, weakening them, or at least slowing them down.

The purpose of doing so many terrible things at once is to scare us. Is to intimidate us to cede more ground than we need to. Don’t let them.

Stay engaged, stay angry, stay hopeful (or spiteful- me tbh), and—most importantly—stay strategic. Find an organization you trust, follow them, and take action when they ask you to.

(Side note- pick just a few issues to care deeply about and only follow a few organizations you trust. Don’t try to solve everything all the time or consume every piece of news. You WILL burn yourself out and that’s not helpful for anyone. Trust me, speaking from experience. Staying 15% engaged is better than 120% for three months and then 0%).

What we’re seeing right now is a backlash to decades of progress—a dying (and by extension dangerous I’m not gonna lie) breath of those in power desperate to maintain control. They wouldn’t be trying to squash us if there wasn’t something to squash.

TL;DR- there’s gonna be a lot of bad stuff in the news today. Don’t give into panic. There will be time to fight most of it. Stay engaged.
