You know, regarding Lloyd's achievement in history and whether ordinary citizens know him or not made me crave post canon modern au.
Imagine seeing an in universe fanfic authors notes in ao3 or twitter crying about how they simply wanted to write a story set in Lloys time but they just keep diving into rabbit holes.
Kinda like
"So i was writing an historical au set in Alician era where the MC had a detour in Cremo and he was admiring a statue by the sea with a local explaining its history. Of course, I needed to do some research only to found out that Lloyd Frontera, YES, THAT Lloyd Frontera who made the Pantara railroad defeated some sea monster, nearly died and got statue for it"
Maybe someone from Beneto Kingdom being so confused because all he learned from history in school (Beneto history) is that Lloyd is just some brilliant engineer so he got specially confused on why in the movie he was watching set in Alician era is Lloyd fighting a goddamn bone dragon.
I'm interested on how scholars and political figures bemoan and analyse Lloyd's action and achievement but ordinary people's Internet discourse could be so much fun as well.
Javier and Lloyd getting the Alexander and Haphaestion treatment on whether they were lovers or not. The discourse would be so toxic lol.
oh my god forget changing the history of civil engineering forever, sparking the nastiest discourse ever on history/fandom internet forums is lloyd's true greatest achievement akshfksdg
he's the go to historical domain character used to set the time period for a historical movie/book/series. he's the guy writers insert to give their work a more period accurate vibe. everyone knows just enough about him to make really passionate history nerds very angry about all the inaccuracies and made up facts that are taken as common knowledge.
i'm thinking people of completely different online circles all knowing about lloyd in some capacity but regarding completely separate facets of his life and work and being so surprised when they accidentally find yet another whole field lloyd revolutionized. like.
a sword nerd who's really into the concept of the asrahan core technique and knows perfectly well that lloyd helped invent it getting gobsmacked about the fact that's the same guy that laid the ground for modern sewer systems.
a fan of historical romance stories who is used to seeing lloyd as a fun cameo in the background of stories set in the alician period being really confused when they open their book on thermodynamics and see there's a whole chapter dedicated to a method lloyd figured out to create ice without the need of magic.
a train enthusiast who is really fascinated by the rudimentary switchback system lloyd frontera implemented when the concept of a train wasn't even known in the empire being completely dumbfounded when their friends invite them to see a movie about that one time lloyd frontera and his knight defeated a knight of hell in namaran.
i think it's definitely a meme to post "so i was doing research for my asfahan au and went on a rabbit hole and guess who fucking built the qanat that's widely regarded as the only reason the kingdom didn't fall into civil war. take a wild fucking guess" "was it lloyd frontera" "IT WAS FUCKING LLOYD FRONTERA OF COURSE IT WAS"
i'm also certain there would be some guys who think he's overrated and people should really stop talking so much about him when there's so many other historical figures who are just as interesting and not as recognized š. to which people immediately go "mad cause your history blorbo didn't defeat a bone dragon aren't you" at them
Javier and Lloyd getting the Alexander and Haphaestion treatment on whether they were lovers or not. The discourse would be so toxic lol.
they definitely get the alexander and hephaestion treatment you are so correct. they're also the achilles and patroclus of the modern magentano girlies. there's a bunch of 'queer retellings' of their lives. they're the go to example for homoerotic friendships. there's a bunch of edits that mix historical paintings of them with ship fanart with that 'history hates lovers' song playing over them. dudebros get really angry about it. llojavi truthers pull out their 20 pages long annotations that start with "they fucking slept in the same bedroom for years" and it only gets worse.
there's one poor person online who just really fucking wants to know how and why lloyd frontera changed faces one day out of the blue with no one ever explaining it. there's no official records. no member of the royal family ever made a statement about it. why is everyone acting like the frontera family didn't have one eldest son for 25-29 years and one day suddenly had a completely different one. what the fuck is going on.
so. yeah. i'm a little obsessed with this concept actually ajkshdksa
#hey i got an ask#myfracturedlife#tged#the greatest estate developer#lloyd frontera#llojavi#<- i guess??

WoT Meta: Prophecies, Fated Lovers, and Robert Jordan's knack for finding the nuance underneath the myth
One complaint I've never understood about the way Jordan writes romances is the persistent claim that he over uses the 'prophesied love' trope.
In part for me, I think it's a little bit folks not seeing the forest for the trees. WoT is fundamentally about the relationship between myth and reality: the place where the fallen angel meets the disgruntled academic, the bitter accountant, and the man who never got over being too short. It's a story where the messiah is real and dealing with chronic pain and PTSD from his stigmata. Where a legendary High Queen has to deal with both marching armies to the apocalypse, and the irritating banal realities of being pregnant at the same time. Of course Jordan digs into the idea of prophesied love- it's a huge theme in folklore and mythologies the world over. Jordan wants to dig into what it really means for there to be a person out there that you are destined to be with: that is a match for you, decreed so by the universe itself....and that you get absolutely no agency and choice in choosing. If anything Tumblr, which adores the 'red string of fate'/'soulmark'/'soulmates share pain'/'world is black until you look into your soulmates eyes' (to name a few of the more prevalent ones- some of which Tumblr practically invented), should be super on board for the parade of fated lovers to be found in WoT. It's nothing short of baffling to me that their not more fondly viewed.
And I think that is tied to the follow up complaint: the criticism that Jordan 'uses prophecy love as a replacement for a romance arc'. But that is something that is just. Patently untrue.
Cause the thing is that is how soulmates are often used...in the majority of soulmate au fanfics you find here and on AO3- an excuse to get the really hard part (two characters realizing they are right for each other and love each other, then having the communication skills to articulate that so they can start a relationship) out of the way, so the author can focus on the fluff or angst or other part they and the audience want to get to. And that's fine! But that's not at all what Jordan does. Just like he does with the Prophecies of the Dragon, or Elaida's fortellings, or even just most of Min's viewings- Jordan takes the idea of the prophecy soulmate, this person decreed by some higher power to be Perfect For You and being right about it, and digs deeper, shining it in different lights and attacking it from different angles. Jordan gives the concept of the soulmate teeth, explores the spines and the sharp points of it: is it real love if it's fated and not your choice? Can you trust your own feelings, or are they fate's design working against you as surely as Aphrodite worked against Helen or Eros against Apollo? What is it like, to see someone one day, and know, beyond a shadow of a doubt that you would love this stranger? This question mark? This wildcard?
Rand's relationships with Min and Aviendha, as well as Mat and Tuon's courtship are great examples of this conundrum. Min and Aviendha have completely opposite reactions to the same information that demonstrates their unique strengths and weaknesses as characters and people, while Tuon and Mat's courtship is all about two people who know they will marry trying to figure out what that means, without ever confronting the reality of those prophecies directly.
Min, as befits a Seer who has learned time and time again that her viewings can not be changed, has resigned herself in an almost fatalistic fashion to all of them, and to loving Rand no less. Min knows that she, and two others, will love him, and she accepts its inevitability the same way she accepts Colavere's death, or Logain's glory, or the shattering of the White Tower. What is, is, and there is no sense or point in struggling against it. What concerns her a great deal more is what she doesn't know- she doesn't know if Rand will love her in return, she doesn't know the identity of the other two women who will love him, and she doesn't know if he will fall in love with one or both of the others but not her. Add to that Min's own insecurities about how she stands out and doesn't fit what her society deems 'proper', between her crossdressing, and her offputting manners, and it makes perfect sense that she's worried about making Rand love her. She doesn't mind sharing him- she hates the idea of being in love with a man who doesn't love her in return, of being stuck like 'Elmindreda' of the stories, sighing and pining endlessly for a man instead of being able to act, to take control of her own fate.Ā
So she takes control: she learns to flirt from Leane, works hard at making herself desirable, and also indispensable: with her visions, her advice, even just her emotional support to Rand when he otherwise has no one else. The irony is that whenever Rand thinks of Min prior to her return to his side in LoC, it's about how much he liked her earthy honesty and lack of wiles: how she was earnest and made him feel at ease, and didn't 'spin his head like a top'- and that's still what he loves about her after they get together: the fact that she isn't fooled by his front, that she sees him clearly and refuses to be driven away the way so many others are so easily. The point is that Min never had to change, and in the ways that matter she didn't- she only thought she did because of her own fatalism.
Contrast that with Aviendha, who, after learning about being destined to fall in love with Rand, does everything in her power to prevent that outcome- because she is a warrior, a soldier, who has never yet met a problem that could not be killed, endured, or retreated from. Aviendha values nothing so much as her honor and her word- she has promised to keep Rand safe for Elayne and what greater act of dishonor could there be in that situation then not just failing in that promise, but despoiling (and she does view it that way) said man herself? So she is awful to him in the hopes of poisoning the well of affection or at least keeping him far enough away that she is never tempted. Aviendha hurls contempt and anger at him, berates him, does everything short of trying to stab him in an effort to make him hate her, and it doesn't work. Despite all her efforts to keep her thorny wall up, they are literally made for each other and can not help but be drawn together time and again. Despite all her efforts to insist, to him and herself, that she hates him, she can not hide entirely that the opposite is true: that she likes him, sees his strength and courage and resilience, and is a little in awe of his generous kindness.Ā
This is why she vacillates wildly between wanting desperately to get away from him in The Fires of Heaven, to not wanting to leave his side: they are two planets caught in each other's gravity, with about as much chance of escaping each other. When she resorts to the last recourse of a soldier- retreat- and runs headlong into a blizzard that would surely kill her, Rand follows to try and save her life and she can deny the truth that she loves him no longer, nor can she resist taking him, even knowing that to redress that balance, she will one day have to offer her life to Elayne (as she attempts to do in LoC)- though fate still has other plans in store.
But in many ways the apex of this, the relationship that really shows Jordan's deconstruction of this trope, is Mat and Tuon. Before they ever lay eyes on each other, each is given a prophecy that they will marry the other: not that they'll love each other, not that they will be able to trust each other, not even that that will like each other: just that they will marry. And their strange courtship is a result of this knowledge, as each attempts to suss out the other, to try and understand them without ever overplaying their own hand. Each believes that the moment they admit their prophecy they will destroy any chance of real connection or understanding.
To Tuon, if Mat learns he is destined to wed her he gains something she can not abide: power over her, leverage that could be used to subvert her own plans and visions- because nothing matters more to Tuon than control, especially over herself. So she keeps her 'fortune' secret and tries to figure out: What will it mean to be married to Mat? Will he be a pretty trophy? A liability? A threat to her Empire? Will she have to kill him once she gets her heirs?
To Mat, if Tuon learns of his prophecy, she gains the power to take away his freedom, to snare and collar him and bind him to her, because that's how Mat deep down views marriage: as a binding cord, a loss of freedom, and nothing matters to Mat more than freedom. So he keeps his *Finn gained knowledge secret and tries to figure out: What will it mean to be collared by Tuon? Will she she treat him as a pretty and plaything the way Tylin did? Will she try to use him against Rand and the Westlands? Will she make him a slave and sent him to be beaten anytime he disobeys her? Will he have no choice but to fight her one day, this woman he is going to swear to spend his life with? Will he have to kill her the way he did Melindhra, and carry that guilt of mariticide on top of all else?
So the two stay in their strange limbo, because as long as they don't admit it out loud to the other, they can pretend they are still two people forced together by happenstance, and (each thinks) they can continue to try and understand and figure out the other, to find out where this inevitability of their marriage will really leave them, and if there can be even the faintest possibility of love in such circumstances. And that limbo- that protracted refusal to act as if they are under fate's direction- is what allows them to build a genuine bond of trust and respect for each other, and to start seeing the other person with the clarity that love requires. All this, so that when Tuon finally does play her hand, and reveal the truth....it's obvious they've long since fallen in love with each other (even though Tuon won't admit that to herself), and come to trust each other (even though Mat won't admit that to himself).
And the thing is- all of Jordanās prophecy romances are written like this: from Egwene seeing that loving Gawyn might be both their downfalls in LoC and seeking him out anyways, to Perrin misinterpreting the 'falcon and hawk' viewing and thinking Faile is a danger to him when she's the love of his life, to Galad and Berelain not even being AWARE theyāre fated to fall in love and just....do, at wild first sight (Another classic folklore/mythology trope). They also never find out:Ā always remaining unaware that the Pattern had long since decreed that they would be together and being incredibly funny/annoying about it. The prophesied love is an example of classic Jordan: taking a common, maybe even ubiquitous premise, and asking those complicating questions that allow him to write it as something much more nuanced and interesting and fascinating. And he gets no credit for it, send tumble.

Hii do you have any recommendations for bl thatās similar to Bad Buddy, My School President, and Semantic Error? Idk Iām looking for something fluffy, but with some angst for flavor (also potentially school setting but it doesnāt have to be). Anyways thank you so much!! šš
10 Fluffy Yet Angsty BLs + School Setting (By Request Rec List)
Examples: Bad Buddy, My School President, Semantic Error
Interesting selection. I added the "school setting" to keep me tailored down. Let's see what we got.
You'll never guess how we are gonna start...
Did ya guess?
Seven Days
Japan 2015 - grey
Never doubt my ability to recommend this show. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). The leads have excellent chemistry although itās low heat thereās still some really cute mutual kisses.
I Cannot Reach You
AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai
Japan 2023 - Netflix
This classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen. Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way. This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters and I felt almost honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen. Full review.
Light On Me
Korea 2021 Viki
Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screenā¦ and I donāt like love triangles. LoM strategically tailors classic BL tropes to 2 different semes resulting in pristine pacing, plot, and character development, explicitly serving narrative (not just to tick boxes). LoM is a master class in this trope drops. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.) Full review.
Cherry Blossoms After Winter
Korea 2022 Viki
Korea took on early Japanese sweet yaoi but gave it their signature softness and precise production with a STUNNING color palette (beautiful pastels, sun-saturated over-exposure), manga framg style, some traditional BL character archetypes, that tiny edge of bullying roughness and out-of-control seme, plus FINALLY a palatable take on the stepbrothers trope and it was, in a word, classic. Sophisticated and understated CBAW is not slow, itās just subtle. It's dream-like and atmospheric, as if the whole thing took place under cold water on a warm spring day. Is there plot or peril? Not really. Do we care? Also, not really. Look, I canāt help it, Iām old school and so is this show. I grew up reading sweet yaoi, and this was THAT YAOI just on my screen. Thereās no objectivity with me and this show. Itās a beautiful pastiche and I loved it for how it made me feel and what it remded me of. Itās not flawless, but it is a wonderful experience. Full review.
Takara-kun and Amagi-kun
Japan 2022 Gaga and Viki
I gnawed on my knuckles and squealed a lot with this show. Reserved cool kid who must learn to communicate to keep the tiny disaster nugget heās madly in love with. It is beyond charmg: soft and gentle, packed with cuteness and high school angst, thirst, & yearning. Was there plot? Not really. Was it emotionally tense and paced well enough for me not to notice? Absolutely. Did I enjoy the hell out of it? Oh yes. Full review.
Blueming
Korea 2022 - iQIYI
Itās a tiny bit dark and a tiny bit bittersweet, almost too honest to a university experience and first love for BL, but if you want your md ever-so-slightly messed with and your intimacy hellishly sweet, this BL will do it for you in a coldly distant manner, while bitch slapping you with self worth issues. I wasnāt into it at first, but the leads are solid and by ep 5 it got really good, becomg a narrative about self discovery meets understanding and accepting others peopleās flaws without hurting them. Ultimately we witnessed two characters maturing because of each other and their mutual affection, without that affection becomg the conflict point. Instead, tension was built around other aspects of identity, popularity, and self-worth. While production values were a touch lower than usual for Korea, Bluemg included decent kisses and other forms of intimacy and a satisfying ending plus thereās judicious and very elegant use of tropes, this is a great BL. Full review.
About Youth
Taiwan 2022 - Gaga
A truly lovely little coming of age high school BL with a classic YA low drama but high angst and an earnest depth. I didnāt even mind the singing, and thatās saying a lot. A weak seme/uke dynamic but tons of BL tropes (both rare in a high school setting but common for Taiwan) makes this one feel both sweet and colored by real world authenticity and grit. Full review.
My Love Mix Up
AKA Kieta Hatsukoi
Japan 2021 - Viki
Completely adorable absolute chaos bi disaster muffin falls accidentally and utterly in love with his classmate, hijinx and friendship result. Whatās great about this BL is that it deals with things like homophobia, asexuality, and one sided affection in an extremely gentle and palatable way. Perhaps sometimes too subtle, but I believe this is a great show for younger audiences, particularly if you want to spark conversations about identity, sexuality, authority, truthfulness, and consent. Oh and itās funny.
The Eclipse
Thai 2022 - YouTube
GMMTV does gay Blacklist with a good boy/bad boy pairing. This is a good show but the cast is excellent and the leads are absolutely flawless, which elevates it beyond just good. We got a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection, plus plenty of angst. This narrative is less about love than it is about courage and tenderness. However, near the end the pacing was off and the plot frustrating. Still, this is an enjoyable watch, with a finale that features verbal consent and a fun blooper reel.
Destiny Seeker
Thai 2023 - WeTV
Frankly this probubly ranks along side most of hte runners up, but it's chronically under watched so I wanted to give it a special shout out.
A darn near perfect pulp featuring 3 likable grumpy/sunshine pairings with uncomplicated iterations of enemies to lovers. At least one half of each does a decent amount of pining and thereās good chemistry, classic tropes, and communication rep. Itās fun and full of linguistic jokes. Sublimely cheesy but a good rainy day offering with tons of rewatch potential. Full review.
Honorable mention
These satisfy your criteria but I jsut personally like the above 10 better. And you did ask me, still OPTIONS!
2gether & Still 2gether
A Breeze of Love
Between Us
Dark Blue Kiss (+ Kiss Me Again - PeteKao Cut)

August 2024 fic roundup
This was truly the month of the longfic. And to think I only read short fics until @skelavender showed me the error of my ways!
š°šļø Paracelsus by prufrockslove
One of the biggest txf fics ever, and I absolutely devoured it. I loved reading it right after Hiraeth and seeing all the little nods to their past lives. This author knows how to spin a yarn, guys. My one complaint is the never-ending miscommunications towards the end, which is never my favorite source of drama/conflict. Just talk to each other, you idiots! (Although they have those moments in canon, as well, I suppose.)
ā¾ļøšļø A Moment in the Sun by prufrockslove
I will remember this fic for the rest of my life. Itās the type of fanfic you want to write fanfic about. It makes me wish I knew now to print and bind my own books. The universe is so rich and developed. Definitely in my top 5 of all time!
Hereās a list of things I love about it:
William. My precious, bratty British boy.
The way the plot includes elements of the mytharc but put together in a different way so you donāt know exactly how itās all gonna come together
Emily!! You know I love a good Emily AU, and this fic certainly counts. Iām a sucker for a found family, and this fic delivers.
Josh Exley my beloved (and Arthur Dales, but the other one)
Dad!Mulder. The man is an absolute DILF. He tries so hard to overcome his shortcomings and be the father his kids need.
Frohike. His job as an eccentric baseball manager suits him surprisingly well, and his characterization is on point.
The little nods to canon, including episode titles and locations.
The insinuation that all of PFLās AUs take place in the same universe (as Mulder said, āIt has to take more than one lifetime to learn to love someone this much.ā)
The only thing Iām not zazzed about is the ending. It kind of justā¦ends? I wouldāve loved an epilogue or even a sequel (or a 12-book series).
š«šø Dr. Scullyās School for Exceptional Boys by prufrockslove
Oh boy. This fic is a tangled mess of emotions and betrayal and shame and guilt and love and promises and sacrifices and, most of all:
Definitely recommend.
šš©āš¬ The Regency Files by @slippinmickeys
I needed something that needed less mental energy after 4 massive PFL fics in a row, and this one delivered! Itās sweet, romantic, elegant, and has just enough of a plot to keep you interested. If youāre a fan of historical AUs (as I am now, I guess), this oneās a must-read!
šš· The Reunion by @muldersfingers
Absolute trope-y goodness without feeling too cheesy or predictable. My favorite part is how much they laugh and tease each other when they finally make use of that one bed ;)
š¶š„ underdog takes the title by @wtfmulder
MSRās first time is sweet, silly, and giggly. Mulder is absolutely pathetic and pitiable, which Scully finds hot (same, girl). It absolutely melted my heart!
š¶šØāš¼ the bitter and the sweet by @xf-cases-solved
What if baby William was a girl? What if they named her after Samantha?
Absolute perfection. This is how season 8 should have ended!
šļøš² The Mountain Man and A Deadly Hunger by aka_Jake
This historical AU takes place in the same time period as Paracelsus, but itās so vastly different in its setting that itās unfair to compare them. In this one, Mulder is a Montana mountain man who smuggles arms to the Native Americans, and Scully hopes to become an army doctor in a nearby frontier town. Itās a classic Wild West romance with plenty of drama and conflict. I love how each of the characters feel like themselves, especially Scully, who retains her headstrong independence despite social norms.
šš„© The Mastodon Diaries by aka_Jake
Mulder and Scully travel back in time to the Pleistocene era and must rely on their wits and each other to survive.
This is one of those fics that changes you as a person. I will be thinking about it for a long, long time. It broke my heart a thousand times and then lovingly stitched it back together. There were so many moments that took my breath away.
The portrayal of prehistoric humans is especially incredible ā theyāre so well-thought out, and their culture is so rich and developed. Even though 12,000 years separates us, weāre not so different from each other in the end. I absolutely fell in love with the native OCs, which is a compliment of the highest order. I already miss them!
Anyway, itās like this fic was created in a lab specifically for me. It has all my favorite tropes and story elements: wilderness survival, historical AU(ish), soooo much whump and caretaking and hurt/comfort, found families, Dad!Mulder, and a surprising amount of romance. If you havenāt read this one yet, Iļæ½ļæ½ļæ½m begging you to give it a try!
š¦š¶āļø On the Verge by aka_Jake
This fic fits into one of my favorite canon holes: How did Mulder and Scully get back from Antarctica? I love reading everyoneās different takes on this missing scene/plotline, and this one is no exception!

Nerdy is the New Sexy
A Han Jisung Fanfic
m.list
A/N: If anyone gets the title reference, know that I love you.
WC: 1.08k words
Genre: Fluff
Characters: University Student Han Jisung X Gn reader
Triggers/Warnings: Idiots in love, mutual, oblivious pining (I don't like this but here we are)
āYour/Name. Go to sleep.ā Jisung says from his room, rubbing his eyes.
You startle at the sudden noise, only to realize it's your roommate, staying up because of the harsh light coming from your room.
āSorry,ā you say, āIāll just be up for a few more minutes.ā āWhatās so important youāre staying up for it?ā
He comes into your room to peer into your laptop screen. Your breathing quickens at the proximity. He squints for a moment and then he looks at you dead in the eyes.
āWhy the hell are you researching Popular dishes of the Medieval Period?ā āYou never know. I might need itā you weakly defend, though you were just insatiably curious. āGod, youāre such a nerd.ā He says fondly.
You almost forget how to breathe. Both, from the words coming and the person speaking them.Ā
āIām not a nerd,ā you reply, your tone soft, but firm.
āIām not a nerd because nerds genuinely spend their time learning new things, things that make them appreciate the world more. Something that justifies as well as glorifies their existence on this planet. It's like giving back because you have a chance to live a life. I'm not a nerd because I sometimes procrastinate and end up hurriedly finishing the essay in two hours instead of the four I'd originally kept apart for it.ā You ramble in one breath.Ā
Han watches you, soft eyes taking in your every breath and relishing in the words you speak. He didnāt know it was possible to love someone so much, without even touching them. For him, you were the human embodiment of love and he didnāt like it when you discredited yourself, even for the smallest of things.
āBut you write as good of an essay you do in two as well as you do one in four.ā He says firmly.Ā
āThatās true,ā you muse, āWork expands to fill the Time allocated to it, I guess.ā He gives you a self-satisfied look that says āSee? I told you so.āĀ
āYouāre a nerd,ā he says in finality. āDon't even start about how you're not qualified to be one. You're the biggest nerd I know. You're a writer, you make everything sound enjoyable, you're kind, and you have such thoughts about nerds. You're the epitome of a nerd if I ever saw one. So don't worry your little head and come back to sleep. I don't want to drag you to class tomorrow and hear your whining.ā He ends his speech with a tired expression as if recounting all the times he dragged your whiny self to classes held at ungodly hours of the morning.
Your heart lurched and backflipped in your chest. God, this was embarrassing, even if you were the only one who witnessed your lovesickness.
He was basically confessing to you, in terms of, hot romance novel terms. But he wasn't the male lead of a romcom and you weren't the protagonist. He was your roommate and you were his friend he was forced to get acquainted with because of your living situation, nothing more.
You donāt want to have fantasies that will end up being just that, fantasies.
So you donāt think about how nice his smile is, or how his arms have been bulging out from his sleeveless shirts recently and how utterly easy it is to love him.
You decide you'll just keep this safely tucked into your mind, where nothing can reach it. You vow to yourself you'll keep it safe for when you second guess whether you really want to keep loving him, when you second guess if you need to keep writing, or when you feel like giving up on yourself. You're nothing if not a writer of your words.
āWhat a lame excuse of a pun.ā You tell yourself. But then with the look he's giving you, you realise you haven't given him a response to his words, yet. And you sheepishly smile as he shakes his head, knowing you got caught up in your head again.
āThank you,ā you tell him. You want to tell him of your gratitude in great detail, in a much more deserving way, but words have deserted your mind now and these will have to do.
He smiles, āYou act like it isn't true. It is. Now hurry up and get to bed.ā He pats your bed and falls into the mass of pillows youāve kept there. You giggle at his action. That was another thing. You were always smiling around him. He made it so easy.Ā
"Talk dirty to me, why don't you?" you say, playfully wiggling your eyebrows and he throws a chocolate wrapper around you. You frown at that.
āThat was my bookmark, you dweeb.ā
āSo?ā he questions as though it means nothing.
āFind another oneā he says nonchalantly and you want to throw a brick at his stupidly beautiful face.
āI canāt. Ugh. What do you know about the struggles of a bookworm?ā
He rolls his eyes at your theatrics. Even as he makes a note to carry some chocolates for you tomorrow, so you can have enough bookmarks.
āIāll get you your favourite drink if you come to bed right now,ā he says, attentive eyes waiting for your reaction.
For one moment, when he says that, you pretend he's your boyfriend whoās really in love with you. You know you shouldnāt do it but all the fics on your phone say otherwise. So, you pretend he's beckoning you to come sleep next to him, waiting to pull your face under his chin and rest his head on yours. It feels heavenly, the feeling. You wouldn't ever refuse to go to bed if it were real. So you don't refuse now. You turn off your computer and your desk lamp, take off your glasses and dive headfirst into your bed, and itās his turn to giggle at your antics. You wonāt refuse him anything even if heās not yours. The power he had over you, you didnāt ever want him to know.Ā
He tucks you in like a baby, and whispers āSleep well, you nerdā, and then heās off to his own room. You merely smile and snuggle in, and youāre out like a light moments after.
Only when the door is firmly shut, does he kick his feet in the air, having a full-on meltdown after being so near to you. Was this his punishment for writing songs with unrequited love? He groaned. It was so unfair.Ā

hey.
okay. hello! i'm back. :)
maybe you noticed, maybe not, but i have been away for a while.
i wish i could say i've been out living my life, so caught up in happiness and joy and loving each day that i've just not had time for tumblr. but....that is not true. i have been having a tough time! being away has been good, as i've had time to do other things that i like and to put energy into my own well-being, but it hasn't been the best time, I'll tell you that.
i peeked on the dash every now and then to keep my queue full and reblogged soothing things to my main blog and tried my best not to feel guilty about it all (i was also booping on April 1 lol). i just...I really needed a break. i've really enjoyed being here the last six or so months as i've changed my blog and entered the pedro/tlou space but i've also felt so, so alone.
and i know that it doesn't really matter!! like, we should all take breaks and go outside and all that stuff. and I know plenty of people are not very active, but this blog has been such a vital part of my life and happiness since I started it almost two years ago, so any lapse in activity feels like a loss. I've met lifelong friends and flexed my writing muscles and learned a hell of a lot. the fact that I have started to feel isolated and alone on here is a sort of personal betrayal, and there is no one to blame but myself.
So, Iām pulling back.
it means a few things ā i donāt know how much writing Iāll be doing from now on. For Joel, especially ā itās been wonderful to meet folks in that community but it has also been really detrimental to my passion for both the game and writing. Iād like to return to some other characters on my masterlist, but weāll see. Iāve got endless personal projects away from tumblr that I want to pour love and time into (my non-reader fics, my newsletter, a romance novel, a sci-fi novel, poetry, etc). I need to fall in love with my own work again.
it's a me problem, I want to stress that. i'm working on it! irl stuff has been kicking my ass. I've had a really, really hard winter and my mental health has suffered probably more than ever before. i let things I love -- like this blog -- fester and become negative and no longer being me joy. writing became stressful and difficult and I was focused on notes and interaction and looking around me and seeing success and then looking at myself and only seeing lack.
but that's why I took a break! i am getting help and support irl, i am putting in the time and effort to feel better about being alive and to be a better friend and person all around. And I want to tell you all about it because I am so grateful for your time and attention and support, even if weāre just strangers on the internet. i know this probably seems silly -- who cares about a fanfic blog? well, i care! i care a lot! it matters to me and therefore it matters!
anyway. on to the important stuff. here I am! and here's what's going to happen on this blog:
I am working on replying to asks and reblogs and comments I missed. Thank you for being patient with me! I don't know if I'll get to them all but know I see them and I am honored every single time.
I made a totally separate ao3 account with this blog url. I'm working on uploading everything I've posted here onto there and hopefully will continue to crosspost. It is going to take a long, long time, so please be patient! (you can follow my other ao3 here for my non x-reader fanfic).
I posted this fic! Jackson!Joel pulled me back into his world. Itās the first thing Iāve written in ages, so let me know what you think. as of now it's the last planned fic for that series, but who knows!
I hit a milestone while i was away that I am absolutely blown away by. I'm planning a celebration around it sometime this spring (hopefully) and Iād love to see you participate :)
lastly, thank you so much to my friends for letting me complain, whine, winge, etc. I am so sorry for missing all of your work, your celebrations, your bright energies, and all the rest. i am so sorry if it seemed like i was ignoring you. you are my guiding lights, my silver linings, my touchstones. you make me want to be here. i will try to make it up to you!
I want to be online less but make sure Iām connecting more in the moments that i am here. I want to pressure myself to write less and not feel bad that Iām not engaged all the time. I want this blog to once again feel like a place that nourishes me and not sucks me dry. i want to stop feeling like shit about all of it!!!!
so. come hang out in my inbox, my dms, let me know what you've been up to. I am really sorry for missing so much. thank you for sticking around. <3
#personal#this is very long but please read it maybe?#emma rambles#I will reblog it a few times probably

I saw your hyoga request and itās truly a shame not many people write fanfics of him since I love him so much.
I was wondering if you could write smth along the lines of hyoga and a chemist reader having this sort of enemies to lovers kinda romance and in the beginning itās all rocky but maybe during their trek in South America everything changes :) sfw ofc
This is my first time requesting so I donāt know if Iām doing this completely right so I understand if it is ignored. Thanks :))
Enemies to Lovers with Hyoga
This isnāt head canons but it flows like head canons and I donāt know if I like it š Iām sorry, I hope Iām just being critical of my own work and itās actually good.
Why should he be expected to save your life if youāre in danger? Itās pathetic. Truly. Heās frustrated, beyond it actually, that you donāt know how to handle an animal threatening you in the forest. But, as much as he hates it, youāre his ally. And admittedly, you can use chemistry to your advantage in just about any situation needed.
He finds that respectable, so he wonāt kill you, but he questions himself for helping you out of a dangerous situation. Especially since he hasnāt liked you very much since his and Homuraās attack on Ishigami village some time ago.
You were the first person he saw, and you ran scared. He found it pathetic, because doing that with an animal, in most cases, would get you chased down and killed. So he followed you like an animal would. He stabbed you, and in order to get away with your life, you threw some sort of chemical in his face. That dirty trick, arguably much better than being stabbed, however, gave you enough time to get away.
He opted to move on to dealing with Kinro, but you stayed back, wounded and hiding. Itās smart, but youāre truly pathetic, he decided.
He should have taught you a lesson about running from a predatory animal, but he didnāt feel that he owes you anything. So why did he help you now?
He goes on thinking that over for months, between the voyage from Japan to New America. And itās during that time you decide to ask him and the other guys to help you train. Your expression of interest in learning to use a spear, and maybe even his technique, had caught his attention.
So during that time he teaches you to use the spear even a little bit, he begins to notice there is just something about you. He doesnāt know what it is, so he pushes it down. Heās not one to go easy on you, so every day you have new bruises from getting hit with the blunt end of a practice spear. He often gets you and Mozu to spar, but of course, Mozu beats you.
You have no hope of ever beating either of them, lest it be pure luck or a battle of wits.
He takes a certain amount of interest in the way you are a master in your own field, but he catches you asking to learn other peopleās skills even a little bit. He knows you have no real plan to be a spearman, but the skill is a nice thing to have. And he can respect that.
So during rest times, you finds himself near you, then eventually, throughout the days, talking briefly with you. Eventually, you two are having actually conversations. And he finds himself more interested in you than he ever has another person.
You often talk his ear off about chemistry. He hasnāt taken chemistry since high school, and he isnāt interested in the least, but he doesnāt mind it too much. You explain why there are always chemicals in your bag, and why theyāre sealed so well. And eventually he asks what you threw in his face.
You explain it was harmless, but would burn a bit. He smiles.
āAh, so just a bluff?ā He smiles beneath his mask
āMore of a distraction, but sort of.ā You answer, looking out at the sea past the walls of the ship deck.
Eventually, you two become an unlikely couple. And the only way anyone would find out, is when he expresses his confidence in your abilities by addressing you as his partner. Unless, you were rather talkative and told everybody.
More often than youāre sparring with anyone, youāre discussing matters with Dr. Xeno and Senku, sometimes Chrome too. You help them find answers when you can, but often you and Chrome donāt fully understand some of the science they get into.
On foot, in South America, is where you two would find yourselves aware of your feelings. You spend most of your time side by side, or on the same motorcycle. And he realizes your arms around his waist arenāt something he minds at all. Your head rests on his back.
For a while, itās just understood during this time that the two of you arenāt just friends or allies, but there is no word from either of you. No word until he calls you his later, and itās just understood. He assumed as much and you donāt mind.

Since you asked me, I have asks for you! And I'll do anything for an opportunity to pick your brain:
5. Share one of your strengths
13. What's the best writing advice you've ever come across?
14. What's the worst writing advice you've ever come across?
33. How do you feel about crack? (The fanfic genre, not the stimulant)
37. Talk about your current WIPs
38. Talk about a review that made your day
That's quite a compliment ^^'
5. Share one of your strengths
I've been told it's side characters. They just spawn in the text and charm everyone.
13. What's the best writing advice you've ever come across?
That the best way to learn is trying to imitate writers you love. Simply rereading already helps a lot, and my favourite exercise is taking a paragraph I've already written and rewriting it in someone else's style. It teaches you so much
Also (can I have two favourite ones?) one I actually took from Russian lit class in school. The teacher talked about how Chekhov was very dry in his descriptions (the Western world mostly knows him as a playwright but Russian kids study his short stories first) and that summer night has already been described thousands of times, we know how a summer night looks. It's enough to write "shattered glass glittered in the moonlight"
So I try to ask myself whether a thing I want to show has already been described by enough people. Sometimes it works better to focus on a fun detail and let the readers' imagination do the rest
14. What's the worst writing advice you've ever come across?
It wasn't really an advice, just a popular attitude that you need to cut everything from prose that doesn't serve the plot
Yes, kill your darlings and yeet that sentence to the scrap pile, texts need to be condensed. But also texts need to breathe and plot-irrelevant details help with worldbuilding
33. How do you feel about crack? (The fanfic genre, not the stimulant)
I greatly appreciate the genre and I think it's the hardest thing to write
37. Talk about your current WIPs
Labyrinth Warriors chilumi edition, I'm stuck at trying to learn how write innuendo. Turns out I can't write romance to save my life
Also I'm trying to rewrite the 3rd chapter of Transcendere because I deviated from the original plan there and just wrote angst instead of unhingeness
38. Talk about a review that made your day
I refuse to pick one
When I asked Saoki if Transcendere was over-the-top angsty and they replied with "no, it reads as the story of someone that was handed a knife without a hilt and told to not come back without a bushel of grass". I still think about it (it's a lovely review to get but also it sums up the character so well)
Also when you were quoting parts of Ephemeris that were about understanding/kinship with comments like "why did this turn me on". MY AUTISTIC ASS WAS VERY HAPPY
Also when Lim wrote the progression of their reactions to Alexey because oh my god :D
Also Ray awarding me a PhD in Childe ^^
Thank you for the ask! <3

If the "straight women are much more likely to write a spicy and well-written m|m romance with complex male characters because they're naturally attracted to men" claim is correct, then why do straight male authors have acquired the stereotype of writing one-dimensional female characters and lame romances if they're naturally attracted to the opposite gender? Why do they prefer to focus so extensively on the male characters and their bromances then?
First, I think we need to clarify: Absolutely nowhere did I say the spicy mlm fanfics were uniformly "well-written." š There are beautiful gems among fanfiction that have moved me to tears like nobody's business, but there's also just a whole lot of... not very... philosophically deep works out there. I don't want to sound mean, but just being brutally honest, I'd wager if we considered all fanfiction across all fanfic sites, a pretty solid majority of it wouldn't meet most people's definitions of truly "well-written." (Which is completely fine! Fanfic writers aren't getting paid! They're usually amateur authors who are writing for fun and often include younger writers just learning the ropes of grammar and character building for the first time! A fic doesn't have to be perfect to be enjoyable for readers!)
On top of that, let's also just be real--a lot of the explicit-content-for-explicit-content's-sake fics out there aren't really trying to write the most realistic and three dimensional male characters ever. They're trying to write sexy fics; realistically depicting men with life-accurate emotional depth and nuance is often... not the goal. š
Of course there are standout fanfics and incredible fanfiction authors. But, if we're being 100% transparent, I think a solid majority of fanfic authors don't actually write male characters that well. A lot of them have limited development, unrealistic or unclear motivations, out-of-character behavior, or a lack of interiority to their thoughts and feelings. A lot of times male characters in mlm fics are even reduced to caricatures of what women want men to do and feel. (I'm not judging here though--if a woman author is writing for women and her women readers want to see men who meet women's expectations, then hey, give the audience what they crave!) Just like Disney princes, a lot of men in fanfiction would seem very unrealistic and flat if you compared them to actual men from the real world!
I think we fanfic readers are just a bit biased, you know. If you're an average fanfic reader, I'm sure you've had the experience many times of being willing to give fic writers the benefit of the doubt even if their works aren't perfect--far more than you would give an actual published author or TV showrunner.
We don't scrutinize fanworks to the same extent that we scrutinize published media. Most people aren't grabbing someone else's fic and writing a ten page essay on how their male love interest wasn't properly fleshed out. Fanfic is full of poorly written men too, we're just not looking for the writing flaws when we read fanfics, at least not to the extent that meta analysts notice flaws in published media.
Side note that I also think is worth thinking about here: Because most fanfiction readers are female (and statistics suggest that a majority are even cisgender women), I think we're already at a slight disadvantage. Do female readers really have the most accurate perspectives on what realistic and three dimensional men would feel or act like? People are people, of course, but my perspective as a cisgender woman is never going to be as "100% genuine" as the perspective of someone who actually identifies as a man.
Second, and sorry, I know this is already long, but I think it's actually a mistake to buy into the stereotype that a majority of male authors can't write believable and interesting female characters. I think this illusion comes because fanfic fandoms congregate around very specific types of media, and often (though of course not always) that media is geared toward younger audiences. The bulk of the fandom claims that "male authors suck at writing women" come out of the shounen anime and young adult genres which are so prevalent in fandom spaces.
The target audiences for both these types of media are teenagers, who (I'm going to be completely honest) are usually not that picky about the development of the characters in the stories they read. I don't mean that no teenagers care about well-written stories (obviously there are many who do!), but that the typical standard for philosophical depth and nuance to which media for young adults is held is, for better or worse, lower than the standard we hold media for adults to.
We don't expect Twilight to be as deep as Moby-Dick. We don't expect My Hero Academia to be Maus.
This isn't an insult to young adult media; we have different genres of content for different reasons, and I definitely would not have wanted every single manga I read as a teenager to be as mentally or spiritually challenging as Moby-Dick. Content for teenagers should be designed to resonate with teenagers, both intellectually and emotionally. Many works for teens can have excellent writing and punch above their target audience demographic too. But the bulk majority of teenage readers are not (yet) going to be experts in literary criticism and sociocultural theories, capable of pounding out advanced meta analyses of the gender dynamics of characters in their favorite stories. Some will, but most won't.
Stories for young adults just don't have to hold up to that level of scrutiny, at least among their target audience.
At its core, however, the issue with the lower standards for depth of character building in young adult media is that it corresponds with lower standards for becoming popular as an author in fields such as YA lit and shounen manga. You don't have to be Leo Tolstoy or Emily Brontƫ to gain recognition among younger audiences. Sometimes, you don't even have to be good. Twilight was a roaring success, even while people lambasted it for being poorly written.
You don't have to be a literary giant whose books will be short-listed for addition to the canon of classical literature to develop a massive online fandom; Voltron was insanely popular despite being terribly written. š You don't have to be god's gift to storytellers to become a popular shounen mangaka; Naruto is still one of the most popular manga in history and I hope no one genuinely thinks its characters were masterfully developed.
I'm not saying it doesn't take talent! It absolutely does! What I believe is that there's just not a guaranteed correspondence between "this author is popular and has a huge fandom" and "this author is actually good," especially in genres where the target audience is younger and therefore a little less likely to deeply critique the media they consume. Even if your characters--male or female--aren't that well-written, you can still get very, very popular in internet fandoms, especially with younger and more forgiving audiences, where only the rare few in the fandom will dedicate hours of their lives to performing meta analysis of your work, picking apart the writing quality and development of your characters.
So, long story longer: It's not that male writers overall are incapable of writing women. It's that a lot of fandoms spring up around kind-of-poorly written stories in the first place, and male authors who are not great at writing in general are equally unlikely to be great at writing women.
In fact, I'd suggest that male writers who are poor at writing women are probably also not great at writing men. Like, come on, don't tell me you think Bakugou and Midoriya's writing was good by the end of My Hero Academia.
Many popular authors with big fandoms are just being given more of a pass when it comes to writing poor male characters than they are with their female characters, and I'd argue that's likely because of the same reason I highlighted before: Their fandoms are dominated by women who like men and are willing to do more work to flesh out/fix the male characters they're interested in.
(It also helps that, with an overwhelming number of fic writers being female, they have less insight into truly depicting the male experience in authentic ways in the first place; if you are a woman, you're more likely to recognize a poorly written female character on the spot, while having at least slightly less ability to identify the unrealistic or inaccurate elements of male characters.)
Essentially, it's confirmation bias in action: We think men don't understand women, so we scrutinize male writers' depictions of women very closely, all while giving a pass to the fact that a lot of these writers just kind of suck at writing men too.
The "lame romances" in stories written by men aren't exclusively lame because of flat female characters--if the female character is flat, half the time the male character is flat too, and the romance is lame because the writer overall is... kind of lame... š
But why all the bromances? I wrote about this in my big long essay before, and I think there's plenty of very complicated reasons that men write so many male-male friendships and relationships into their story (re: coming from genuinely misogynist cultures, deliberately baiting fans with hints of BL, an actual internalized desire for greater emotional connection with fellow men due to perceived male loneliness, self-projection into their own characters, having been told they aren't good at writing women so they've given up, etc. etc.), but I honestly think one of the simplest reasons is genre. The majority of these "bromances" are coming from shounen manga, and shounen manga has some very common recurring tropes, chief among them being the whole "me and my ~RIVAL~" dynamic.
A lot of mainstream shounen stories have had such enormous success with this "young male protagonist and his best bro/rival/arch-enemy" dynamic that, frankly, I think many modern manga are just piggy-backing on the trope. "Dudes who beat each other up and become besties" has worked for so many series now that it's just become a staple of the entire genre.
I also think the market for Japanese manga in particular is very unique, with male manga artists recognizing--and capitalizing--on the power of the "fujoshi" reader early on. It's easy for shounen manga artists to see the benefits of over-stocking their stories with male characters and queerbait, because hinting at mlm ships they have no intention of ever paying out on 1) rarely reduces their male readership and 2) actually broadens their readership dramatically by deliberately bringing in female readers.
Basically, so long as the endgame is a het ship (or at least no ship), male readers will still read a story even if it has mlm shiptease, while more women will be drawn to the story for the mlm shiptease when they otherwise might not be that interested. There's no way to lose.
In essence, on the topic of queerbait, the shounen manga artists were just really savvy and realized faster that "having your cake and eating it too" is possible by incorporating a higher number of male-male relationships in their stories in order to broaden their readership and sales. Comparatively, western media was just much slower to cotton on to this technique, and I'd say it wasn't until relatively recently that western series have begun hyper-emphasizing male-male relationships specifically to appeal to women readers and viewers (see Supernatural, Good Omens, probably Teen Wolf [I don't actually go there so I can't confirm but I feel like this is true lol], etc.).
And, one final sidenote: I think it's difficult to compare published media to fanfic in terms of "featuring what you're sexually attracted to" because in published media, people are at least supposed to pretend their own sexual preferences aren't entirely warping the story, especially in young adult series (which have the biggest fanfic fandoms). Like... Compare: If you're a shounen manga artist you can get away with some panty shots but you can't be a flat out gooner--conversely, if you're a fanfic writer, you can write hardcore porn without hesitation. If we want to make an actual comparison in how much sex appeal sways character gender ratios in fanfic versus published media, I'd say the only comparable match would be comparing the ratio of female characters in harem anime and straight up hentai to the ratio of men in fanfics. We can't be out here comparing like... the original story content of Harry Potter (made for children, cannot be overly sexual) to its AO3 content (where nearly 40% of all HP fics are labeled explicit/mature). You gotta compare 18+ apples to apples.š
Phew, sorry, that was a lot.
tl;dr: Tons of factors--yes, including misogyny--affect how men write women, but the issue of male writers being bad at writing women is likely being exaggerated in fandom spaces because 1) Fandoms are overwhelmingly female and women are better able to identify and critique poorly written female characters than anyone else, 2) Most of the biggest fandoms on the internet center around stories for younger audiences who haven't had enough time to develop strong media literacy and literary criticism skills, allowing writers to become popular without necessarily needing to be of highest quality, 3) Female fans are more willing to forgive poorly written male characters because they're more likely to be interested in and attracted to those male characters, and 3) A lot of writers just suck in general; it's not localized to just being shitty at writing women.
#fandom stuff#meta analysis#female characters#writing stuff#gender in media#I genuinely think part of the problem with meta analysis in fandom#despite being a person who regularly engages in it myself#is that we do apply extremely adult concepts like gendered power dynamics#sociocultural theories#intersectionality and more#to stories that frankly weren't written to hold up to that level of scrutiny#every character in a shounen anime looks poorly written#when you look at them through the lens of like...#simone de beauvoir and lacan#a lot of the media that is popular in internet fandoms#was actually written for much younger audiences#and the expectations we have for depth and nuance#are often outside the work's goals and target audience in the first place#I'm not saying authors have a free ticket to suck at writing characters#let alone at writing women#but that we need to avoid the fallacy that popularity = quality#and not enter into an analysis of a text with foreordained conclusions in mind#if you set out to critique a story's female characters#but choose not to equally critique the story's male characters#of course the female characters will look worse#meanwhile the male characters will be flat out garbage lolol#but they'll get the pass because the fandom girlies find them cute

CFWC Writer of the Month - Aug 2023: ao719
Each month CFWC highlights one of our talented fanfic writers, and this monthās writer of the month isĀ @ao719. We hope you will enjoy learning more about them and their work below!Ā The writer is selected at random. More info can be found on theĀ navigation page.
Quick Links:
Tumblr Blog: ao719 Blog Masterlist
How do you want to be known on Tumblr? Anitah
1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played?Ā
I first started playing in June 2018. The Royal Romance was the first book I played, and I got hooked from the end of the first chapter. At the time, they were midway through releasing TRR book 3, so I binged books 1 & 2 and finally caught up on the day of the wedding, where the chapter ended with the attack at the boutique. Then I didnāt know what to do with myself because it was the first time I had to wait a week to find out what was going to happen.
2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?
Finding Tumblr was a complete accident. I was googling something really dumb about Liam and TRR and happened to stumble across a link for a fic on Tumblr. At the time, I didnāt know what Tumblr was; Iād heard of it but had no idea what it consisted of. The fic I came across was around 40+ chapters, and I was in my glory reading this angsty story about Liam, but it wasnāt finished, so when I reached the last updated chapter, I was like, āI need more.ā So I opened Tumblr and searched for more Liam fics and found a trove. I lurked for another month or so before finally making my account in September 2018.
3- How did you pick your blog name?Ā
I wish I had some good story for it, but itās the most basic thing, lol. Itās just my initials and a significant date. I think if I came into the fandom with the intention of actually doing something with the blog, I would have tried to come up with something a little more clever and creative, but I had zero intention of doing anything but reading. I thought about changing it a few years ago, but when I learned that Iād have to relink everything in my masterlist, it didnāt seem worth the hassle.
4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!Ā Ā
Itās from the day TRR 3 ended and itās about how I was sad that it was over but was glad that I had all these stories to read.
5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?
Iād never written anything until I joined the fandom, so Iāve only been writing for almost five years now. The thought of writing didnāt even cross my mind when I joined the fandom, but within a couple of weeks of making my blog, I had a random idea pop up in my head, and for some reason, I decided to write it down. A few days later, after talking myself out of posting and then talking myself back into it, I bit the bullet. For me to post a story that I wrote was entirely out of my comfort zone. Iām pretty shy and tend to be more of a wallflower, so I donāt usually put myself out there, especially like that, and Iāve never been someone who does something where I intentionally set myself up, knowing there is a very good chance that I will fail. And social media on any platform can be a pretty intimidating and terrifying place when you open yourself up, especially to strangers, even by way of posting a measly little fanfic. So to say I was terrified of posting that first fic is an understatement, but Iām so glad that I did.
6- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to write about?
The Royal Romance will always be my favorite. It was the first book I ever played and was the only one I played for well over a year (I just kept replaying over and over and over until @cocomaxley convinced me to give MotY a try, which I fell in love with). Itās my comfort book. And like every book, it definitely has its flaws, but I love it and the characters so much. And TRR is my favorite book to write about. Liam will always be my number one guy.
7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were writing it today?
The first fic that I wrote was I Dare You. Itās not an all-time favorite of mine, but I like it well enough that I wouldnāt change anything about it.
8- What is your favorite fic that youāve written?
This is tough because I have a few that I love for different reasons, but I think Always You will always be the most special to me because it was the first series I wrote that I can truly say I poured my whole heart into. I love that story, and I love the history between Liam and the OC, their bond, and their relationship.Ā
9- Do you have a fic that you didnāt expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to be but found could use a little more love?
When I decided to start Hopeless Hearts, I didnāt think it would be received any differently from most things Iād written before. It was an idea Iād kept on the back burner for over 2 years prior to writing it because I didnāt think it was anything spectacular or out of the box. It turned out to be my most well-received series, and it became one of my personal favorites as well.
I donāt think anything Iāve written has left me feeling as though I wished it had gotten more. Iām still surprised to this day that anyone wants to read anything Iāve written at all, so any love that my fics get is beyond appreciated.
10- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?Ā
Angst (but with a HEA). I love putting my characters through the wringer before giving them that happily ever after they deserve. Whether Iām reading or writing, thereās something about feeling the pain and longing theyāre going through that gets me emotionally invested. I think thatās why I love the second chance romance trope so much, too. Itās a really versatile trope, but thereās a lot of room for angst in those kinds of stories because of that established history between the characters and a past that tore them apart the first time around.
11- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?
I think I sprinkle a little bit of myself into all of my MCs/OCs. Itās usually something small like a favorite food, a hobby, certain mannerisms, etc. I think the one that Iāve added more of myself into than any other and can relate to the most personality wise would definitely be Charlotte.
12- What element of writing do you struggle with most?
I struggle with all of it here and there, and Iām constantly questioning whether something makes sense, if itās flowing together, if itās too descriptive or not descriptive enough, etc. I think the one area I most consistently struggle with is deciding where and how to end because I always want to leave my chapters with a cliffhanger or if Iām finishing something for good, I want to give it the ending it deserves.Ā
13- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?
I have quite a few that are unfinished that I know I more than likely wonāt ever pick back up, mostly because I just lost my mojo for them, but there are definitely some that I want to finish. Iād really like to get back to Past Meet Present one day. I donāt even remember why I got off track with writing it, and itās been at least two years or more since I last updated it š«£ so Iām not sure if anyone would even still be interested at this point, but Iād really like to finish that along with Breaking Point and Us Again.
14- If someone you know in real life (who isnāt involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first?Ā
No. Maybe. I donāt know, lol. I try to be a ānever say neverā kind of person, but writing is something that Iāve done for almost five years that literally no one in my real life knows about. Not my friends, not my family, not a single soul. Itās like my dirty little secret. And itās a little tough because it does get lonely sometimes when you have something that you love doing so much but you just feel like you canāt share or arenāt ready to share that part of yourself with even those closest to you. Iām a pretty self-conscious person, and posting on here where I can hide behind a screen is hard enough; I get nervous and have a good spike of anxiety every time I post something, no matter what it is. I donāt know if I could handle someone who knows me personally even knowing that I write, let alone actually reading something Iāve written. Iāve got the bubble gut just thinking about it š„“
15 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?Ā
Iāve been lucky enough to talk to and befriend some amazing and talented people in the time Iāve been here who Iāve certainly looked up to when it comes to their writing talents. And there are also those writers who I got to know after Iād been writing for a while that not only continued to inspire me with their amazing stories and talent but who also became a huge support and really close friends. They were and/or are always willing to brainstorm, look over snippets, help in those moments when Iāve been extra critical of myself and feeling very unsure, and/or have just been the absolute best cheerleaders and constantly supportive and encouraging to not only me but others as well. I donāt want to make a list because I always end up forgetting someone and I donāt want to leave anyone out, but anyone that fits that bill above, you know how much I love and appreciate each one of you.
16- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?Ā
Iād say either Always You or Hopeless Hearts for a movie. Series I think Full Disclosure with some Charlotte shenanigans would be pretty fun š
17- Do you write original fiction?Ā
I havenāt. Iāve been asked a few times about whether Iāve thought about turning a couple of my series into original stories, but I just donāt think Iāll have the confidence to ever do it š¬
18 -Ā What other hobbies do you have?
I do photography. I love calligraphy and making hand drawn quote signs on wood or canvas. I love to read ā Iām currently in my fantasy girl era and have been obsessing over the ACOTAR series for months, lol.Ā
19 - Whatās your favorite emoji?Ā
I use so many to express myself in conversations that I think it would be hard to pick just one. My most commonly used ones: š š š„² š¬ š š„“ š„¹
20: BONUS - tell us anything youād like (if you want to).
I just want to thank CFWC for working so hard to help keep this fandom active and supporting everyone here.Ā
To anyone whoās taken any time to read my stories and interact with me in any way, I appreciate it more than I can say.Ā
This place has been such an escape for me over the past (almost) five years, one Iām still very much in need of. So, whether youāre a content creator, writer, artist, reader, whatever the case may be, whether weāve interacted before or not, thank you for what youāve done to help keep this fandom alive.

"BOOYAH!!"
Leo's shouts rang out once again as you won yet another battle.Ā
Your team was on par with the S4, possibly able to overtake most of them on a good day.
It was a hot day and you were all growing a bit too exhausted to battle comfortably, so Milo offered that you should all have lunch at crusty Sean's.
A yellow-green inkling had his eyes on you once again. You were used to fans staring, so you ignored him- you truly didn't mind, and was able to push it to the back of your brain, laughing along to one of Leo's jokes.
But he only fell further in love with your adorable smile. He slumped in his chair and let his head lightly hit the table before him out of frustration.
He'd been a constant admirer of yours for a while now. He admired the way you battled- he figured there was a good chance you could even beat his team leader. Well, there's no way he would be able to go all out against you, so that probably wouldn't help..
Now that he thought of it, he wouldn't be able to battle at full strength even if he wanted to. He's sure he would mess up constantly being distracted by you. He let out a quiet groan.
Bamboo offered him a knowing look, glancing over at Tasha, while Blazer grew irritated. She whisper-shouted,
"Just ask them out already!"Ā
Stealth looked at them with a look that said: 'Are you out of your mind?!' He shook his head, as if he could ever have the guts to speak up.
Rider soon came back with their food tray, handing it out to them. Stealth thanked him.
"Y'know, I think you should give it a shot," Rider spoke after a while of eating silently. He looked over at Stealth. Stealth shook his head, there's no way. He nearly stood up and left, annoyed at his teammates, although he knew they were just trying to help, he was just growing more anxious and panicked. Before he could, he heard a fan shout;Ā
"Yo, look, it's Rider!"Ā
This was usual behavior, so he wasn't surprised. Up until he saw you and you team walking over, and he had realised it was Leo who shouted that. Rider was much nicer to fans compared to before, but he acted like he was buddies with Leo- you were all S+ after all. Leo began chit-chatting with Rider, the outgoing squid he is. Rider seemed to be enjoying it. You sat back and watched, enjoying the scene in front of you; you always loved seeing Leo make friends. And hey, it was Rider! He's a pretty cool guy, you thought.Ā
Then you glanced over at Stealth. He grew flustered, quickly facing away from you with a panicked look on his face.
Bamboo subtly stared at Tasha with a lovestruck expression. She then faced Stealth and whispered,Ā
"I'll talk to her if you talk to them,". That was in no way convincing to Stealth as he shook his head, denying it. Before he could speak up, somebody came between them asking,
"What'ch'you guys talking about?" It was lighthearded, and you honestly didn't really care, but you needed an excuse to make convo with the cute cephalopod with Stealth goggles. You hadn't really paid attention to who it was earlier, but now you recognized him, being a slight fan of Rider's team. Not as in you looked up to him that much, but more as in you saw him as a strong rival and skilled individual that you possibly looked forward to battling one day.
Speaking of,
"Hey, let's have a battle!"
Leo read your mind. And Rider accepted with a confident: "sure." Paired with a smirk. He recently learned how to enjoy his battles thanks to Goggles, and he figured this would be a fun yet challenging one.
āāā ļ½„ ļ½”ļ¾ā: *.ā½ .* :āļ¾. āāā
The 8 of you stood on your spawnpoints, ready for the count down. The stage was Arowana Mall. You and Leo quickly ran through the center area, inking a bit while Milo and Tasha stayed back, properly inking the sides. You'd run back to ink the middle better later if need be. You ran off through the right-side path, running into one of their teammates. It was Stealth. He probably took a while to ink, still in the 'inkstrike reserve' mindset.
You decided to give him a moment to try to splat you before you attacked, wanting to go easy on the cephalopod you found cute. But he made no move to attack. The two of you stood off to the side, away from any teammates' view, silently looking at eachother, both confused.
"Why... why aren't you attacking?" He mumbled out to you, confused.
"Cause I think you're cute," you said it so nonchalantly, "why aren't you attacking?"
He stayed quiet and looked away, face warming. He attempted to adjust his headgear to cover his blush, but it spread to his ears much too obviously.
"How about we hang out after this?"
You didn't mind the silence, it was a nice break from all your loud fans, to be honest.
He turned to face you once again, and you were already handing him a small piece of paper. He took it, curious, and it had your number written across it.Ā
"O-oh! Sure?" He wasn't reluctant to hang out with you- no, not at all. He was afraid of messing up around you.
You passed him and waved, he waved back, lovestruck. He only realised that you were headed towards his base much too late, but he let it happen while he sighed and made his way to the middle stage.
āāā ļ½„ ļ½”ļ¾ā: *.ā½ .* :āļ¾. āāā
After the battle was over, 50 something to 40 something- you didn't really care since you won and you knew everyone wasn't trying their hardest. All you were looking forward to was spending time with Stealth. So, when everybody met up after the battle, you quickly told Rider:
"Hey, I'm stealing your teammate, okay? Okay, bye." And swiftly took Sleath by the hand, marching off.
He chuckled at the scene and smirked, glad that Stealth could finally spend time with his Deca Tower crush.
--
First, you took him to an ice cream shop, curious to know what his favorite flavor was. Tiger tail was his favorite it seems, and he got cherries on top. 'What a unique combo,' you thought. He just becomes more interesting by the minute.
"You got something on your cheek there, Love." You had pointed out. He had some powder on his cheek from the mochi.Ā
āHow embarassing,ā he thought. He was so afraid of messing up, and now you probably think he's a messy eater and-
You gently wiped it off with your thumb, kindly smiling at him.
So you didn't think he was a messy eater? Or maybe you didn't mind? Stupid anxiety.
"You're quite fun to be around, Stealth. We should hangout more if you're down!"
He swiftly nods, not trusting his own voice due to how happy (as well as flustered) he is.
After a day of spending time together, paired with some silly, embarassing moments (for Stealth- they only made you fall even harder for him,) you made your way back to the Yellow-Green Team's place, him guiding you there.Ā
Before he opened the door, he awkwardly stood, unsure of what to say. He wanted to say more than a goodbye.. but he wasn't sure what to.
You decided to start, telling him that
"You're free to text me anytime, okay?" With a smile on your face. He nodded.Ā
Before he could turn around to open the door you asked if you could give him a kiss, pointing to your cheek. His face flushed, but he didn't object-Ā
"Sure-yeah, yes. Please. I mean-" you chuckled at his words while he embarrassedly tried to use his headgear to cover his blush, but then realised he had to take it off for you to kiss him. He thought nothing of it, taking it off for you.
As you leaned in and gave him a quick, short kiss, you then paused, opening your eyes to spot two beautiful eyes that weren't joined together by a mask. His tentacles were different too.
He was an octoling. You thought this meant he was trusting enough with you to let you know- but in all honestly, he was blinded by his love. You swiftly pulled him into a comfortably tight hug, offering him another kiss to his cheek while you were there. His face was bright yellow-green, quickly putting his headgear back on.
"You are really cute you know, I'm looking forward to seeing you without your headgear more often," you smiled at him.Ā
He looked down and nodded, not trusting himself to speak and mess up dramatically once again.
He reached for the door handle, but it quickly opened before he could touch it, Bamboo being the one behind the door.Ā
"Oh, you're back!" Stealth moved aside, followed by you, to let her by. She said a quick bye to Rider before leaving the house. Going down the steps, Tasha trailed behind her. Wait, Tasha? What was she- ooooh. Good for her, good for her. You nodded with a grin, proud of her.
"What's your teammate doing here?"
"I think she's going on a date with Bamboo. That's what it looks like to me, anyway," you smiled.
"Oh!" He paused, unsure of what to do next.
"Guess that means our teams just have to hangout more often, hm?" You said with a teasing tone, and he nodded. He finally opted for one last hug before entering his home and waving you goodbye.
He watched through the window as you left, pausing to look at your hands and smile widely to yourself. You skipped off, happy with your day.
He went into his kitchen to grab himself a glass of water to calm himself down, embarassed by how happy you seemed to be about him.Ā
He was so very lovestruck.

April 2024 Angel Fish Awards
(Angel Fish design byĀ @slytherkins!!)
Every month all of you fantastic writers work your asses off to post some truly incredible stories. Our Angel Fish Awards are the way for all of us, as a community of writers and readers, to lift each other up and give praise to those who have captured our attention and deserve a few kind words. (Click here to learn more about how to nominate a fic for an award!)
Nominated by @charliethealpaccaso
Contentment Is A Pearl Of Great Price by ravelqueen (AO3)
This fic captures everything that makes transformation scary but fascinating to read from start to finish. The mental change later on during the fic, Sam has to deal with as the new part of him takes over. It leaves you on the edge of your seat as we have no idea if he will ever be human again or if he will lose himself and his humanity forever. I wish more people would try their hands at more transformation fics, as there are many interesting topics to choose from when creating a fic like this one.
~*~*~
Nominated by @thoughtslikeaminefield
God Save The Queen, And Her Handmaids by darali_starscream (AO3)
I have attempted to think up a scenario in which Charlie Bradbury might sit on Dean Winchester's face to no avail. This isn't what you think, I promiseāthere is no universe in which I'd be OK with a true Charlie/Dean pairing, but this works and it works well. BJ riffs on the spectrum of attraction and sexuality here. The pairing in Charlie and her girlfriend who is bisexual x Dean, and it's a very satisfying little story.
Sleeping Arrangements by @jinkieswouldyoulookatthis
This is very cute and even sexy without being smutty.
~*~*~
Nominated by @zepskies
The Dangers of Hope by @dean-winchester-is-a-warrior
I had never read an "Endverse!Dean Winchester" series before, but this one completely blew me away -- from world-building to the overarching story to the romance itself. Beginning to end, it's beautifully written.
~*~*~
Nominated by @mrswhozeewhatsis
Living His Gray Flannel Life by @samanddean76
Warnings to start - As there is prostitution in this one, noncon must be mentioned. Also, this is a Wincest fic, so, you know, incest. That being said, this story is told from Jimmy's POV, so the Wincest of it all is less Wincesty. Which is right up my alley, man! This is the perfect amount of Wincest combined with outsider POV, where the outsider loves what he's seeing as much as we do. I can't say more for spoilery reasons, but know that there is delicious pining, sweet smutty smut, a fascinating monster, and fantastic side characters. I read it twice just because once wasn't enough!!
~*~*~
Nominated by @salt-n-burn-em-all
House Song by @accordingtothelore
Dean protects Sam from being killed by other Hunters and their dad. Starts Gen, does not stay that way. I just loved everything about it. Fabulous art in the last chapter.

Nominated by @spn-fanfic-reblog-writes
What happens in ApocalypseWorldā¦ by masoena (AO3)
This is such an interesting aspect that Iāve never read for a/b/o. **SPOILERS** The moment Dean and Arthur step through the portal everything changes and the world heavily influences their biology. I loved how, of course, Ketch knew exactly what was happening, which really makes me wonder about wtf Ketch has been through. I really wanna know more about that dynamic change and I hope they really do write more. This is also one of the few stories I get to read a soft!Ketch. I love, love soft!Ketch. Gotta check them out.
Second Chances by @mayalaen
First, I am not a fan of incest. Second, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this because it isnāt tagged. Finally, I love poly fics. Itās so hard to find a poly fic that isnāt just PWP/smut. I really enjoy how the premise is getting Sam to relax and teach him how to handle his health while managing school work in a healthy way. I really like how the relationship between Cas and Sam is setup, Dean gets introduced, and then all hell breaks loose in the different relationship dynamics. The thing is there isnāt an emphasis on their brotherhood and sex. This is NOT a wincest smut story. Itās a story about Sam learning how to be a healthy adult while finishing college and finds a place where he is wanted and feels like he belongs. I also absolutely love the dom/sub and domestic discipline aspects of Cas and Deanās relationship. Itās really a background aspect until it isnāt. I highly recommend the read even if you arenāt a wincest or wincestiel fan. The plot is written and integrated so well with the character development for all three main characters. It really took me by surprise. I couldnāt put it down.
(Divider by @glygriffe)
THANK YOU ALL, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK, AND AS ALWAYS, HAPPY WRITING!

I return with another scenerio?
I really dont wanna be a bother I promise.
So, this takes place after Adam dies but since I can't handle character death he somehow comes back as a demon for a second chance or something. Vox finds Adam (or Adam finds Vox whatever you want) and they sorta make a deal (no soul, much to Vox's displeasure). Vox gives Adam a place to sleep and a job and Adam protects Vox since he still has his guitar (the guitar is linked to his soul so he cant really lose it).
After a while, Adam decides he wants to give this redemption crap a try because he misses the exterminators and other stuff. Vox decides to go with Adam (why? its up to you, fight with the Vees, he doesnt trust Adam alone, he doesnt want to be left alone again, whatever).
The Hotel crew was invited to heaven to talk about the hotel and redemption as a second chance, everyone was invited and everyone went (including Alastor, shockingly), But since Lucifer was kicked out he really cant go to heaven so he has to stay and watch the hotel.
Theres a knock on the door and, surprise surprise, its Adam and Vox (whos glaring at Lucifer, for some reason). They explain their situation and why they're here and Lucifer's like "Sure, cant do anything anyways since i'm here."
Lucifer now realizes how much of mistake that was. Not because Adam and Vox are assholes, no no he can deal with assholes, but because he is watching the worlds SLOWEST slow burn fanfic ever, in real life. He has to watch these to be so fucking in love with each other but they are so oblivious.
Vox is the type where he doesnt know he loves Adam so Adam could tell Vox "I love you" and Vox would be like "huh?"
Adam knows he likes Vox but hes scared to be rejected so he refuses to say anything and is willing to love from afar.
its to the point where Lucifer is about to do what girls do with their doll and make them kiss or SOMETHING.
If you wanna write when the hotel crew returns, then they're gonna walk in and see a drunk Vox singing something, Adam looking at the TV man like he hung the stars (/pos), and Lucifer looking exasperated while watching the two. Because I find that would be so funny.
(This was written for only Vox and Adam but if you want you can squeeze Lucifer in there or something, idk. I also feel like Alastor knows how oblivious Vox is since he watched Valentino try to romance him but Vox was like "Oh, as a friend!" so I feel like that could lead to a funny scene where Alastor and Lucifer can plot or something to get the two together? I dont want Alastor included in this through ship though, hes just like "If Vox is staying here he will be happy or SO HELP ME.")
Happy writing! -Bell
(I've never wrote anything for that pairing before. What a fun little challenge ^-^ )
Sitting in the parlor with the two Sinners, Lucifer stared them down. What in the Seven Rings could they be planning? "Tell me again why you're here?"
"I already told you-"
"Not you Adam. Him."
Lucifer didn't trust Vic- Vic? Vax? Whatever. He didn't trust the Sinner. Not after what Lucifer's learned from other Overlords that he was close with and from the residents from the hotel.
Not to mention he was around Adam. The first man. The first real friend Lucifer had ever made. No matter what bad blood was between them, he would always have a soft spot for the human soul. That protectiveness was once again showing itself whether he liked it or not.
"The two of us have a deal. He protects me with his power, and I give him a place to stay. However, I no longer have that. I've had it with Valentino, how he breaks our employees, and how he chooses his favorite porn stars over our relationship."
"You two had a falling out and you're the one who left?"
"Yes, well, can't really be protected if we aren't in the same living space now, can I?"
"I suppose that is fair. But if you're going to be staying here, you will not be causing or bring problems to my hotel, her friends, and her hotel. You will put in actual effort by either trying redemption or working here."
"We get it Luci. We'll play nice, okay?"
"Yes, your majesty- Luci?"
"Yeah. We knew each other since I was created. I'm gonna call him Luci."
~
This was a mistake. Why had Lucifer allowed them into his precious daughter's hotel? Why was he the one left here all alone to baby sit them and suffer through Slow Burn Hell?!
With Charlie and the other residents in Heaven for a meeting, Lucifer was the only one here to keep an eye on the two Sinners. So, when he had gone behind the bar to get himself a drink with their bartender gone the other two decided they wanted to indulge in a good drink also. That had been another mistake. Allowing them to drink.
Now, not only would he have to explain what they were doing there when everyone returned, but also why they were drunk. Maybe he'd have enough time to get them sober or at the very least in bed before that happened.
"Dad! We're back!"
Fuck. Spoke too son. Way to go jinxing yourself Lucifer.
~
"Dad. You did this?"
"Charlie I can explain-"
"This is amazing!"
". . .What?"
Lucifer had expected her to be upset, much like Vaggie and Alastor were when they saw Vix and Adam when they returned from their meeting in Heaven. Vaz was one of the people who let the mistreatment of Angel to happen, and Adam tried to kill them. And had killed on of their other friends.Ā
"I know Sinners aren't your favorite people, but this is a great first step towards your own self redemption! Giving people second chances. I am so proud of you. This is actually what the Hazbin Hotel is about."
Proud? Proud of him? He felt his heart soar at his little girl's words. But he wasn't sure if it was as amazing as she thought. Vox was standing up on the bar singing That's Amore loudly and off key while Adam watched him. Looking at the Overlord like some sort of lovesick teenager. Gross. Was that what he was like with Lilith?
At least some of the others were getting enjoyment out of the two drunks. Angel was laughing with recording the two on his phone and Husk was pouring them more drinks to keep their entertainment going.
"Babe. I'm glad that you're so... psyched for this. But we need to get them to bed so we can go to bed. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them and I'm so tired."
"Right. You're right."
~
"I hate this so much."
"As do I, sire."
Jumping with a yelp, Lucifer glared at his least favorite person from the floor. "Stop doing that, you creepy fuck."
"But it is oh so entertaining!" Offering the other end of his cane to the small man, Alastor pulled him up. "What is not is whatever is going on between those two morons."
"So, you noticed it too?"
"You would have to be blind not to sense the tension between them. Not to mention, our dear Charlie will not shut up about how 'adorable' they are together."
"Not the word I would use."
"Agreed. Now, what do we do about them. Because I will not be dealing with an oblivious and miserable Vox while he is living in my territory."
"Wow. You Overlords really are territorial, aren't you?"
"Oh, like you're one to talk."
~
Hiding around a corner, Lucifer had to admit that as much as he didn't like Alastor, this was a lot more fun than he thought it would be. It had been a while since he had played cupid with anyone.Ā
"Alright. Here they come. You remember the plan?"
"Yes, yes. You will talk to Adam, and I will unfortunately talk to Vox. And will help them through this little issue so this can finally be put to an end."
"You know, you always sound like a pissed off middle aged woman."
"Excuse me-"
"Shut up. They're here."
Not paying attention to where they were walking, their targets almost crashed into each other.
"Oh shit. Sorry about that dude- man- Vox." Rubbing the back of his neck, Adam couldn't believe he was acting like this. Again. For the third time in his life.
And it begins. Poor Adam was a nervous mess. Lucifer remembered the last time the first man had acted like this was when he had first met Eve. At least she had made the transition into a relationship so much smoother then whatever this cluster fuck was.
"It's fine. I wasn't watching where I was going. Valentino keeps blowing up my phone. Just a warning, he might come here and make a scene now that I'm not there to talk him out of having his hissy fits."
"Nothing I can't handle."
"Yeah. I know."
Face palming, Alastor couldn't believe this man could get any stupider. And he had wondered why Alastor had rejected him all those years ago. This had to end. Now. Or so help him, he was going to kill someone. Most likely the both of them.
~
"I thought you two talked to them and set up a date for them."
"We did. It went right over Vork's head."
"Are you getting his name wrong now on purpose?"
"Yes. Because I'm mad at him."
Angel didn't know what was worse. The romantic and sexual tension between Vox and Adam or the fact that this was actually helping Lucifer and Alastor get along for the first time since they met. Looks like it was time for him to take matters into his own hands. Going over to the two who was causing all of this, Angel snapped his fingers in their faces to grab their attention away from each other.
"Alright. We're all fuckin' done with this bullshit. You two need to just fuck already. That and go on a goddamn date. We can't stand this anymore. We're losin' our ever lovin' minds!"
"...What? Angel that's ridiculous. Adam doesn't- ..."
"Did the right wires finally connect in that empty head of yours?"
"I think I'm gonna go."
"Go? No. We're talking about this- Adam don't you run from me!"
Watching the two run around the hotel like a couple of children, Lucifer was flabbergasted. "IT WAS THAT EASY?!"

Hello, you of so many wonderfully angsty Gortash headcanons... I'm looking for inspiration on situations that the little tyrant would cry? I... may or may not be kicking around a sort of '5 times a Banite cried + 1 time he didn't' kind of fanfic idea...
Ohh that's such a fun concept!! I have a few ideas constantly rattling in my head, but feel free to search through my #asks tag for more, I ramble a lot about him on there. (Also pls tag me if you ever post the fic!!)
(tw for abuse and child abuse below)
- The day he was sold to Raphael! Very underwritten scene but very angsty too. Did he notice his parents discussing it? Did he know? Did he try to run away and fail? The scene of Korrilla taking him away without his parents doing anything about it would be pretty angsty in my opinion, his first day(s) in the House of Hope too as he gets used to this new and strange environment.
- Anything with the House of Hope, literally anything! I think the idea of a child slowly learning the rules of being a slave would be tough, even if he was smart enough to pick up on them quickly. How fast was he in figuring out what he could and couldn't do? Was he punished often? I just bet he was, both physically as well as emotionally. Explore that! How does a child grow up in such a hostile and abusive environment?
- Bane Bane Bane. Religion in and of itself is a concept that can hide a ton of angsty subtext, and Bane's church is a particularly harsh one. Did Gortash struggle when he first joined it? Or was he the first to establish it after House of Hope? Either way, you can't go wrong with some good old fashioned religious guilt. Maybe he feels he's not working as hard as he ought to, or he's not as harsh as he'd like to be in his early days or he's just realised that he's in love with Bhaal's chosen. No matter the scenario, you could write about a Banite prayer of forgiveness and the self-torment that comes with it. Get creative!!
- Durgetash, just in general. Guilt, manipulation, forbidden romance, it's a can of worms but replace worms with angst. How did they meet? When did they start falling for each other? Was their first time together traumatising or liberating?
- Speaking of, have Durge react to Gortash's many flaws. An argument that quickly heads south and turns physical for example, that reveals Gort's scars from the House of Hope. Would he be embarrassed? Unbothered? Either way, Durge would want to know about them, with all of what that entails.
- Just write Gortash having a bad day. After Durge's disappearance perhaps, or just generally being stressed out. Overworked, exhausted, running purely on caffeine and cigarettes, have him cry over something small and insignificant (ie he drops his mug or misspells a word) that just breaks the floodgates open. Have him react with violence or anger or just straight up depression. He's a very sad character in essence, and that definitely should be used more.
Anyway, I hope I helped at least a little bit!!

Fantasy Book Review: A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland
JJ's rating: 5/5
How feral did it make me: 5/5
My book reviews
Iāve been reading (or listening) to a lot more books this year than normal, and I have realized that I need an outlet to talk about them. I considered making a goodreads account, but hey I already have this! So I will be reviewing the books Iāve read this year, and depending on how long it takes me, I might just start reviewing all my favorite reads.Ā I'm probably going to add links to my blog to make them easier to find.
Letās get into it. This book is so good. SO GOOD. I listened to it on audiobook, which normally means while Iām at work, driving, or at home doing chores, but I literally listened to the last 2 hours of this book at home doing absolutely nothing, just on the edge of my damn seat!Ā
Hereās a quick summary: the very anxious Prince Kadou accidentally causes a serious incident that leaves multiple of his personal guards dead or injured. In the aftermath, he is assigned a new guard by the sultan who is known for being an uptight rule follower. As their personalities clash, they have to solve a mystery and learn to work togetherā¦
I want to preface this review by saying that this is definitely a romance novel with a fantasy setting. The world building, especially for the main country this novel takes place in, is great and extremely vivid without unnecessary info dumps. The main plot of the story is perfectly serviceable, if a tad predictable, but it 1000% does what it needs to do for the romance.Ā
But, the romance. THE ROMANCE. This book was advertised as an āenemies to lovers slow burn romanceā and it 100% delivers on both. Now, when some people think āenemies to loversā or (even better imo) āenemies to friends to loversā, they imagine that at least one of the parties involved is a horrible villain and the relationship is probably abusive in some way. Iām sure there are plenty of books out there where that is absolutely the case, but Rowland gets what makes that trope so good. Itās about two characters who are both good people, but initially clash. Itās the mutual hatred born out of a fundamental misunderstanding of the otherās character, itās the eventual begrudging respect, itās THE YEARNING. THE PINING.Ā
Both of these characters are so wonderful. We get both POVās throughout: Kadouās anxious desire to do whatās best for his country and not fuck anything up, and Evemereās steadfast, noble determination to understand what makes the prince the way he is.Ā
I donāt want to give too much more away, but this book is filled with ALL the delightful romance tropes you could ever desire.Ā
Can we talk about pacing?? Pacing is so, so important, especially when writing a slow burn romance, and this author GETS. IT. Sometimes if the romance is resolved too early, all the tension goes out of the story, because if itās a romance novel, weāre here for the romance, not the plot. But in this story the whole novel is centered around the romance, and the pacing just works so, so well.Ā
Also, the way that queerness is written into this story is wonderful. Third gender pronouns abound andĀ same sex attraction is fully accepted, and itās really refreshing. Also, there are multiple female characters who play significant roles in the story who are fleshed out characters, which I feel is sometimes lacking in M/M romances.Ā
I have not been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it like four days ago. I listened to the audio book, which had an excellent narrator, but have also ordered the paperback with my favorite version of the cover. Please, do yourself the favor and read this one. Also, if you do read it, the author published a 10,000 word fanfic epilogue on AO3. Itās called What spring does with the cherry trees, and itās a goddamn delight.Ā
