Fellas, is it normal to casually admit you have mentally worked out how a certain issue of a certain comic could've ended differently had the writers involved wanted to kill off a certain character?

Is it normal to just shoot that off on a Tumblr post on a Sunday afternoon?

So yeah, I'm yet a-fucking-gain talking about IDW #53, and, full disclosure, I may have started fiddling with writing this out.

So, yeah, let's pretend, as a hypothetical, Evan Stanley decided to go fucking wild, and use the fight against Surge as an excuse to kill off Whisper, how the fuck would that work?

Well, the major change is the easiest: Sonic and Tails show up late.

With the benefit of hindsight, it is practically a literal fucking miracle that, even though Sonic and Tails' house got fucked up during the badnik riot going into Issue #50, the computer managed to avoid getting broke.

Now, granted, by the time Jewel contacted Tails, this had happened-

But, hey, Sonic and Tails still managed to speed over to Central City in time to stop Surge from finishing the job, right?

So, let's assume the computer also needed to get fixed, and they didn't get that call from Jewel when they did.

So, Surge just kills Whisper then and there, right? Post over?

No.

Like I said, I have had dark thoughts, and the way this plays out in my head, that would've been ideal:

After getting distracted by her Starline hallucination, Surge remembers "Oh, right, I was about to kill Whisper," and turns her attention back to her; she hadn't yet gotten up, same as in the comic.

In a panic, Cyan tries in vain to protect Whisper, gets absorbed for his trouble. So, literally, it's just the two of them left.

But before deciding to land the blow, Surge decides "You know what, it's not like you're gonna need it after today," and decides as one final stab to take her mask, and wear it.

You know? The thing that can translate Wisps?

So, what do you think would happen if Surge put that on?

If your answer was "sensory overload in the form of five voices screaming at the same time", then yes, that is what would happen...

So, yeah, naturally, hearing all that screaming freaks out Surge, she unknowingly fries Whisper's mask as a result, and after managing to calm down from that, she get really fucking mad, and decides "You know what, fuck being cute," and decides to... well...

Do what she almost did to Sonic three issues later:

She pins her down to the ground, and starts trying to electrocute her to death; it would probably be around here when Sonic and Tails finally show up.

Regardless of how the rest of the confrontation with Surge plays out, the most important thing would be "Holy fuck, Whisper needs to go to the hospital now," and Sonic speeds her over to the nearest one, and she is swiftly put into a hospital bed; she is most likely gonna need heart surgery, but her heart rate needs to settle down first before they can do anything.

So, that's where we currently are: Whisper is in a hospital bed, unconscious and clinging to life, while Surge is dealt with in the background. What happens next?

Enter the other player in this fucked up game.

It is my personal belief that Mimic 100% was nearby in Central City when Whisper and Surge were fighting, and was quietly waiting for Surge to be done so he could finish the job; it's only when Sonic and Tails showed up when they did that he abandoned those plans.

So, in this timeline, that's not what happens.

While Whisper is recovering in the hospital, a nurse quietly enters her room, with the pretense of checking on her.

In reality, this is Mimic, deciding to take advantage of Whisper's already weakened heart.

He fucks with her IV drip, slips out of her room, and by the time he's sneaking out of the hospital, the medical staff are scrambling to try and save their newest patient, who is in the middle of flatlining, but their efforts will ultimately be in vein.

Surge's attack would already caused bare minimum congestive heart failure. Mimic inducing a heart attack would be the nail in the coffin.

And so, to summarize: How would Issue #53 (and technically 54) need to be rewritten if it was decided to kill off Whisper?

Smash Tails' computer beforehand.

FANG THE HUNTER: ISSUE #1 - THOUGHTS

Figured since folks seemed to enjoy my StH #68 post so much, I should share my thoughts on Fang's first issue as well.

It'll be a shorter one, since I really don't have as much to say about it.

To put it short... I liked it! I really love Ian Flynn writing these Classic stories. It seems that when IDW Sonic began, Ian Flynn really squeezed himself into the niche of Plot Guy. Even after Evan Stanley took over as Head Writer, it seemed like Ian would jump back in for the big, heavy, climactic events like Issue #50. It's a really nice change of pace to see him writing these more light-hearted, lower-stakes stories, they give him a great opportunity to display the fantastic understanding of the series' character dynamics that made him a prominent figure in the series.

One particular bit of character work I'm fond of here: Sonic being just a little bit of a jerk!

I'm not the first to bring this up, but nowadays, Sonic has lost a bit of that edge that made him special in the early days. Not Edge in the same sense of, like, Shadow, but the stuff that made Sonic the inventor of the Mascot With Attitude. Nowadays, he's just kind of a smart-talking hero a lot of the time, so I really love stuff like the OK KO crossover taking the opportunity to dial that 90s Attitude up to 11.

Bean gets some solid gags here, too. This was the issue that made me realize how heavily his character writing is inspired by Classic Daffy Duck.

Mauro Fonseca is also doing a fantastic job with art. Their art has been catching my attention lately, they're really good at keeping things on model, but squash-and-stretching those models when needed. I think they're a perfect fit for a Classic miniseries.

The story follows Fang the Hunter, one of the series minor antagonists, and his colleagues Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear, as they hunt a mysterious eighth Chaos Emerald.

Right away, it seems to me that this is a reference to Sonic Championship (formerly Sonic the Fighters), Bean and Bark's introductory game, which featured eight Emeralds. This left the game in something of a weird position, because Bean and Bark reappearing in later material made Championship canon, but ever since Sonic Adventure, the series' lore has always made it clear that there are only seven Chaos Emeralds. This is a neat little way of addressing that inconsistency!

The comic's setup takes an opportunity smooth over a few other cracks as well.

In early Sonic games, lore concerning the Chaos Emeralds was kind of all over the place. Some stuff made it seem like each of the different islands the games took place on had their own set of Chaos Emeralds, some had Emeralds with different colors than others, it was clear that they didn't really think to lock down the Chaos Emerald lore until later down the line.

Here, that's attributed to the legendary status of the Chaos Emeralds and their mythological nature.

To me, this is the job of these comics. Telling stories set in the world of the games provides a perfect opportunity to expand upon that world and tell us how the bits of worldbuilding we get in the games all fit together. I will always love when they use the comics to dig into a game concept and give us a better understanding of how it fits in the games' world.

Once again, I'm a big fan of the environments here. The Classic stories always lean into the fantastical element to their settings, with Seasons of Chaos having a full-blown Zone lineup! What we get here is nothing out of the ordinary in that regard, but it's still nice to see the characters run around areas that actually look like places from the games!

That's about all I got! It sets up a sort of B-Plot mystery early on and I was kind of intrigued about where it was gonna go, but the later issue covers have already spoiled it for me so...

I'm excited for more, I really like having a story that centers around a plucky little group of rogues instead of Sonic and his Assigned Pal For This Arc. It's a pretty good start, but nothing enormous and status quo shifting. You know, a Classic Story! It's fun and I'm having fun with it!

i think infinite wouldve killed ⭐️line had he not died in issue 50 or at the very least pummeled him

when infinite learns that ⭐️line died, just like that? hes PISSED. she wanted him to die by her hands. (of course, he wasnt called the ultimate mercenary for nothing)

like . post lunav2, infinite has so much rage inside her, a level of rage he hasnt felt in a long time, and... he doesnt know how to deal with it. moth can only do so much - they barely remember her.

she still feels awkward confiding in sonic & co, yknow, with the whole war criminal thing. and i think during this time, despite wanting nothing more than to isolate and protect moth in this state, she ends up getting closer with the gang.

and i think this is when most remaining hesitance surrounding trusting infinite subsides? because seeing infinite "friendship is a weakness and youre stronger alone" jackal lovingly doting on moth makes them go oh fuck, he has changed

Before EP15.1(2023) came out. I made this video Source(2022). Did you see something reference? On Tumblr, I post a video on August 18 before Sonic Frontiers initial release. I did draft Tsofph story before post EP9.1 in 11 June 2022 and before IDW Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 44 came out in August 2021 (publication date). There was a page that Sonic is too Trusting and believes the enemies will change their heart. Also in IDW Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 50(Pictures Below)

That words from Surge the Tenrec(IDW Sonic) were similar but not the same as Punch's thought of Sonic in Tsofph Season 9(Final judgement) Even Knuckles mention that Sonic is too Trusting in Sonic Frontiers and I knew Sage would think that too.

In Fate/Zero, Gilgamesh did mention that betrayal is normal. Even in Fate Extra CCC, Gilgamesh told Gawain that he's too loyal to King Arthur to the point that he can't see his king's burden because in Gawain's eyes, King Arthur is already an "ideal king" But both Sonic and Punch were the Observer Introverts. For Gawain betrayal is bad or worst and the perfect good person never ever betrayed.

Punch views the same way as King Gilgamesh, "This is the nature of this world, betrayal is normal" But Punch also thinks that "If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs" references from Steven Universe American animated television series. Because Punch doesn't believe that people can change because everyone thinks that they are right. They can't accept reality like Punch do. Punch is also arrogant and believes she was right. She never thinks of herself as a good person. Sonic also believe in himself too and sometimes didn't listen to his friends but he knew what is teamwork even sometimes he like to be alone. That what makes Surge the Tenrec(IDW Sonic) can't trust Sonic. Surge doesn't want to be control her ideal by someone or her thought ever again. Like King Gilgamesh said if your paths are different from the beginning you will inevitably devour one another. From the beginning, Punch knew Sonic had similar ideas to her but Sonic never change to walk the same path as her. That why Punch make the decision, She will go to save Sonic in her own way even though everyone says this path is worst and she won't anyone, she will end up alone. That's why I post this(Picture below)

But why does Sonic still trust Punch? Even he knew what Punch is going to do is do genocide?! Um, no such thing. If Punch is going to do genocide, she will kill Peter very long ago. How Sonic knew that even if his memory still does not fully come back? Sonic Frontiers show that even Sage herself, Sonic try to figure out without attack. (In Tsubasa of Phantasia, Sonic can read people's hearts.) Same goes to Sonic and the Black Knight

Also, this cutscene(Below) explains why Sonic understand what Punch was going to do because he will do the same as Punch too. (If too much, Sonic will end up like cyber corruption in Sonic Frontiers) Also in Sonic CD manual,  [Doesn't care about authority and isnt a hero. just has a warm heart, courage and self confidence leading him to do good "No worries! If I have courage, I can do anything!"] Both Punch and himself had the same thought.

That's why Sonic trusts Punch to the very end because Punch's thought is the same as Sonic, only the path is different. You will understand in the future in Tsofph season 7 and 8, why Sonic always is on Punch's side. Note: Sometimes Punch is stirred, goofy and loves to help lives. For Syaoran view, he also believed that Punch is still a kind girl like back when they first met. Velvet and Homura mention that Sonic was more sensitive feeling and positive than Punch even though they were similar.

So, this is super out of chronological order in my OCs’ canon, so it might not make much sense, but this picture is so wholesome that I can’t resist sharing it now. 😭

“Why are you helping me..? After everything I did to you and the others..”

“Because.. when I found you there in the midst of the wreckage.. I couldn’t just leave you to die..”

This is part of an AU I have where Rivet’s present at the battle with Sonic and the others and learns of Dr. Starline’s fate from Belle.

The two of them were close before Starline became a full on villain, so she goes to find him and locates him amidst the rubble, still alive and barely clinging to life. And despite everything he’s done, she can’t bring herself to let him die. (More under the cut)

So, she takes him back to an old base of his, calling in a miracle doctor and pouring all of her energy and tech into helping his broken body heal over the scope of several long weeks.

When he finally does awake, he spirals into depression, mentally broken from his loss against Eggman, and unbelieving that she should have saved him or be helping him, especially considering he hurt her and their friends.

But Rivet is unwilling to give up on him, knowing he can still turn over a new leaf, so she stays by his side through recovery to help support and rebuild his confidence.
