THE MESSY CONCLUSION OF 'WALK THE MAZE', LOOPiN's EARLY 2024 (FAILED!) ATTEMPT OF A CONCEPT RESTART...

Very few boy groups can confidently say they a had successful 2023 run, and the fact that LOOPiN can include themselves in the lucky few despite the looming shadow of their problematic former co-parent company, Blockberry Creative, is a miracle: after all, they became a 2 million seller group last year, won 8 music shows trophies in total - an 80% growth -, and conquered the heart's of knets with their summer release ‘Beatbox’ and their last title track of the year, 'Tell Me What To Do', which is still charting at the time of writing this article on major Top40s.

It's easy to see that any project coming from the group after 'Internet War' promotions would hardly fly under the radar, and choosing to finally quick off their visual and storyline rebrand in connection to such a well received album seemed to be the perfect recipe for success right at the start of 2024. Turns out it wasn't, partially for reasons beyond New Wave Music’s control, yes, but we're yet to get there.

Coming to its conclusion on December 29th, New Wave's storyline focused project 'Walk The Maze' - an attempt to introduce brand new units to LOOPIN unrelated to their past connection to LOONA - came to fruition through special music videos released every week of December, featuring escapes out of dystopian buildings and sentient robots, all to introduce the subgroups ‘ContraCult’, ‘IdenIdol’, ‘LiveLine’ and ‘InninS’.

It was to expect that after the mass dismissal of the entirety of New Wave’s concept department right after their departure with BBC in November 2022 - where over 21 employees were let go without proper warning or pay, if the former concept director for the group, Oh Yewon, is to be believed; a matter that’s been settled privately between her and CEO Seo Changyuk away from public eye -, the quality of anything cinematic coming from the group would have decayed, but LOOPiN has been working side by side with the small video effects company GOLDWORK Studios and making it work splendidly in visuals; uncoincidentally, GOLDWORK is a subsidiary of chinese commercial studio giant XLV Media, created and managed by J.J’s father, Xu Lianghui.

But despite all the secure outside investment and hype initially built around ‘Walk The Maze’, the members’ personal affairs have, as they so often do, come in the way of smooth success. The conspiratory delays involving LOOPiN for the past 2 years as well as the upcoming girl group act from New Wave Music have raised suspicion of the company's ability to survive another year.

On December 29th, ‘Walk The Maze’s final day, the official site created to house the eventual immersive ‘quests’ to immerse iNSYNCs into the member's new characters and their realities. The overall prize for concluding all 4 was direct access to a mp3 file bearing a re-recording of LOOPiN’s debut single Love Me Right, this time featuring Gyujin - which went public a day later. After the conclusion of the game the site showed a tight schedule for the rest of the semester, promising the restart of Boy Of The Week format and the release of solo singles from every member starting from February. But here is where complication comes.

After all, two weeks before the turn of the new year, New Wave’s trainee team RIIDEWAVEE won ‘Show Me The One’, the reality show where Mnet would provide a ‘premium debut experience’ to upcoming acts from medium to small companies. By contract obligations shared over Dispatch soon after the trio made up of Dahyung, Chaeun and Furumi disappeared from all social media in early January, New Wave Music has until mid February to debut them in a group, or else they’ll have to pay a ₩8,012,349,438 (6 Million USD) fine to Mnet for breaking contract. To no surprise, all the company's resources seem to have gone into making it happen, and its effects on what’s planned for LOOPiN has already been announced: on January 13th, New Wave released a note explaining the scrapping of the singles in the former Boy Of The Week format, choosing to release them all together as a full album on a undecided date. 

In some sort of retaliation, Dylan has apparently responded to the cancellation by releasing his own set of solo songs on the 21th – originally 10, but now counted on Spotify as 9 after the track ‘Little League’ was deleted –, which doesn’t seem to be a full group pleaser; the one day long unfollow from Seungsoo and Haegon raised eyebrows among fans, who are always on edge with intern fighting rumors in LOOPiN.

In the middle of it all, the Japanese fashion house VIANFINO has announced the end of their exclusive contract with Haruki. The decision to let the Idol, who had been appointed as an ambassador for Monica Amano’s brand in April 2022, is strongly speculated to be made after the Idols skipped his scheduled appearance in Milan Fashion Week last September without properly notifying VIANFINO. Despite ending his contract on the 11th, New Wave nor Haruki have acknowledged Monica’s sweet natured departure statement, where the designer regards him as someone she’ll surely keep cheering for on a professional and personal length.

The final nail in the coffin for reputation compromise involving a LOOPiN member apparently has just come with the expose of Night Child’s Dongwook admission into a rehab facility on the 27th. J.J, who has been a public friend of his for months on end, has been excessively judged by NTCD’s fanbase for how quickly he went deleting all traces of Dongwook off his personal social media– hard enough for him to delete his Instagram and Tiktok accounts.

With all that happening in a single month, LOOPiN seems to have retroceded to their infamous ‘curse’ of challenging starts to promotional years. Although, if New Wave Music is really looking for a way to suppress it, enrolling the members in a long due intense media training course might be a good start.

their relationship is very much built on comfort. over the years, seonghwa has become a safe space for juyeon and that’s specifically based on how he treats her when she’s experiencing an episode. he doesn’t try to force her to talk about what’s wrong or ask her if she’s okay. he just sits with her and lets her exist. sometimes, he’ll talk while juyeon listens and sometimes they’ll just sit in silence. he knows how to navigate her and she appreciates that.

on a more lighthearted note, she stresses him out. anytime something happens that he should be even slightly worried about, he’s looking at juyeon first because nine times out of ten, it’s her doing. juyeon doesn’t listen to hongjoong so when it comes to scolding or trying to calm her down, it’s seonghwa on the job usually bribing her with something so she’ll relax.

hongjoong has always had confidence in juyeon. it’s the reason why she’s even in the group. but when she officially joined and began to practice with them, things went slightly south. their different perspectives made them clash a lot. juyeon would call hongjoong too bossy and hongjoong would tell her that her work ethic was poor. this was before anyone really knew about juyeon’s poor mental state so there was a huge lack of understanding between the both of them. it wasn’t completely bad blood but there were a lot of frustrating moments. after talking and learning more about juyeon on a personal level, hongjoong laid off a bit. he took the time to understand her and now their disagreements aren’t as serious as they used to be.

hongjoong is juyeon’s favorite target when it comes to pranks because to her, he has the best reactions. he gets scared shitless and then scolds her like a dad. she thinks it’s hilarious. sometimes, he’ll let her childish energy slide simply just to see her happy.

yunho reminds juyeon of her older brother if they had a good relationship. out of all of the members, yunho and juyeon definitely have that brother/sister energy the most. they’ll play fight and play video games together, screaming at each other through voice chat while being in the same house (poor yeosang 😭).

he’s actually very protective of juyeon, despite her being older. he tries to encourage her to take care of herself by engaging with her. if he goes to the gym, he’ll ask if she wants to tag along. if he’s eating something that’s even a little healthy, he’ll give her some with even asking. he’s like her bodyguard in public (even though she swears she doesn’t need one). he insist on making sure she’s okay.

it took a while for juyeon and yeosang to become close. at first, juyeon thought he was kind of boring. he didn’t talk to her much and kept quiet whenever she was around. honestly she thought he didn’t like her. really, yeosang was just intimidated by her. juyeon is loud and boisterous and comes off as rude or aggressive sometimes. she made him nervous in a way that he didn’t want to accidentally set her off. after learning this, she tried to tone it down a bit around yeosang until he was comfortable enough with her.

in a way, juyeon is protective of yeosang. he’s known to be on the quieter side and juyeon takes the initiative to try to get him out of his shell. you know those moments where yeosang’ll want to get someone’s attention but just doesn’t say anything and stands there until someone notices? juyeon’s the one yelling to that person from the across the room. she always makes sure he has an opportunity to speak during interviews and tells him “don’t suffer in silence.” she just might be the leader of the yeosang protection squad.

san was someone who caught juyeon off guard when they first met. he was so polite and spoke so formerly, it almost freaked her out. even after she told the members to speak comfortably it took san a bit longer to adjust. she wasn’t used to the kindness san showed her and for a minute, she thought he had ulterior motives. it took a long awaited conversation to clear up any misunderstandings between the two before they became close but they got there.

juyeon considers san one of her biggest supporters, always cheering her on and going with her to solo schedules when he can. many people argue that san brings out the kindness in juyeon. she’s a lot nicer to him and when he’s around. san is known for being very kind and gentleman-like and that definitely rubs off on her. she doesn’t want to do anything that'll seriously hurt him so she stays far away from him when she’s upset. the only thing he isn’t safe from is juyeon stealing his food, because she will take his cake like seonghwa did.

if someone were to ask juyeon who is she closest to in ateez, she would say mingi. to juyeon, mingi is like a giant puppy. she doesn’t like to admit it, but she has a soft spot for him. sometimes she’ll do small gestures for him like buying him snacks or getting him a cup of coffee while she’s at a nearby cafe. she tries to act like it’s nothing whenever he tries to thank her for it. mingi tends to follow juyeon, either hanging out in her room or going with her whenever she has to run errands. he likes being in her presence.

they bond over their similar styles and music taste. they send each other music the other might like and go on shopping trips. they also spend a lot of studio time together and it could either go one of two ways: they make the dumbest, most chaotic song you could think of, or the greatest thing you’ve ever heard.

there’s a mutual understanding for each other when it comes to their mental health struggles. juyeon doesn’t talk about it much but she’ll sit and listen to mingi whenever he needs. in regular conversation, nothing goes without a funny comment or remark from juyeon. but in these situations, she shuts up and listens, allowing he to say whatever is on his mind without any judgement.

loud ass mfs, keep these two AWAY from each other. the smallest things will set these two into a fit of laughter for ten minutes which leaves everyone else confused. nobody is safe when these two are together; you get nothing but chaos and bickering. they’re either partners in crime or each other’s worst enemy in games and challenges. juyeon and wooyoung are definitely the type to have random ass conversations in the middle of the night.

juyeon and jongho have a very casual friendship. some would call them strictly coworkers or “not close” but that’s a bit of an exaggeration. they aren’t strictly coworkers but they aren’t super close either. they actually know very little about each other on a personal level. obviously, they know basic facts but in a who knows who better? contest, they’d both lose.

they definitely have chaotic potential though. they’re usually the ones who find funny tiktok videos to recreate or come up with inside jokes. she really treats him like the younger brother she never had. they tease and set each other up for embarrassing moments but it’s all in good fun.

This was an important performance, SKZ prepared very carefully.I've been preparing for so long, I wanted to be the best for STAY, I wanted to be proud of me! It was a big award where we wanted to receive a big award, Daesang. The boys were tense, they did everything professionally that was needed. The performance was supposed to be with the song "MEGAVERSE" and everything turned out perfectly.

"What are our lovely lady thinking about?" Minho jokingly asked, patting me on the back as I was warming up in front of the studio mirror.

"I'm worried, Ho, I want to show YOU that I deserve to be a part of Stray kids." I bit my lip and shook my body before turning to Minho in a half turn.

"You are an integral part of us, and whoever disagrees with this goes fuck themselves," Minho said briefly, but very accurately. Lily laughed at his words

"What are you laughing at, it's time for us to go"

"And where are the others?"

"Seungmin and Changbin are now buying water for everyone, Chan is discussing some points with staff, and everyone else is waiting in the car. Come on,Bear...You're too slow"

I left with Minho, the atmosphere was quite tense and everyone felt it. We sat down in the car:I was sitting next to Felix, who was taking new selfies for Bubble and we took a selfie together; Jeongin had already fallen asleep on Chan's shoulder, Changbin and Hyunjin were jokingly arguing; Seungmin was listening to music on headphones, and Jison and Minho were pestering each other. Lily exhaled and whispered to Felix, "I'm so worried, freckle..as if I don't have the right to make mistakes."

"Oh... Lily..this is absolutely normal, our work anticipates constant stress. Firstly, you are an ordinary living person and life without mistakes is impossible, STAY will love you any, like other Members, you will not get worse from this," Felix said with a smile and took Lily's hand in his, he understood how important support is to her now.

house of cards is a south korean reality show created by mnet. hosted by twinstar’s oh hyewon, it premiered on march 5th 2021 and was broadcast every friday for thirteen weeks until its final episode. the series was broadcasted on the sbs m channel or youtube depending on the viewer’s location.

with fifty - two contestants being entered into the ring, the aim of the show was to debut a four - member group under the rising company kq entertainment. and with the growing success of their boy group ateez, it wasn’t long until those fifty - two slots were filled—auditions being held from january to february 2021.

divided into groups of four, a ‘pod’ would consist of thirteen members recognized in the four main categories needed to be a successful idol groups : vocals, performance, rapping, and personality—the last of the categories surprising its viewers. one member from each pod would be selected to represent themselves in their respective categories, as well as expected to keep up if asked to suddenly perform in the other categories. each week, four contestants were eliminated.

on the final episode of the show, aired on may 28th, it would be announced that the final four would debut later the same year.

in an unexpected turn of events, highly voted contestants choi janelle and yamada emi did not make the lineup. ending up in fifth and seventh place respectively, the top four spots went to kq trainees ahyeon and micha, pledis trainee yuina, and eunji—a recent university drop-out and convenient store worker. outrage from comets—fans of teenstar—and new fans of emi were inescapable for weeks online, marring the reputation of the show. but the hate didn’t matter. not to a certain staff member at kq.

house of cards was the brainchild of creative director yoon boeun, hired in 2020 and tasked with the creation and development of the project kqueenz. with her newly selected four, she would go on to partially introduce the girls to the world on june 14th, faces partially hidden in a similar fashion to their seniors. dancing to rico nasty’s counting up, four girls dressed head to toe in black gave a teaser of what’s to come. despite the show’s negative reception, the dance cover was quick to go viral—hate-watched or not. they would quickly gain popularity due to being of ateez’s sister group.

after the release of their dance video, the group would go through a series of debut preparations—the release of the official group name on july first, hijinxx, individual and group street performances from june to august, posters in public areas—all to raise domestic popularity. and on september first of the same year, hijinxx would officially debut.

sora’s patience was notoriously known for being thin but with jaehyun it basically did not exist. this coupled with the fact that he was obviously avoiding cece’s calls, she had reached her final straw.“cece give it to me-!” she attempted to yank the phone out of the crying girl's hands . that was until jaehyun's soft voice echoed around the room.

“hello?”

he finally picked up. after she had tried 5 times already he finally answered the phone.cece yanked the phone away from her friend with a strength she didn't know she had only to lose all that confidence just as fast as it appeared.

the silence that followed was suffocating. despite being so desperate to speak to him, cece felt that she didn’t have the words, her sniffles were all that he could hear through the phone.

sora tugged at cece’s arm once more, managing to separate her phone from her ear just that much more so that she would be heard.

“you’re a fucking piece of shit jaehyun! again ? you did this …again! what the fuck is wrong with you-”cece grabbed the phone once again before sora could say anything more.

“is it true?” her voice was soft as she spoke. “you and hayley… is it?”

all cece could hear was jaehyuns breathing, and a slight shuffle indicating he was moving around. but nothing more.

“please tell me it isn’t.”

cece was already on edge when january 1st rolled around, ever since heeyoung and jisung’s faces were plastered everywhere they looked 3 years ago all of the vivid girls dreaded the day. dispatch had created a haunting tradition of announcing idol couples every new year’s day and shattering their worlds in the process. and despite cece’s previous anxieties nothing could have prepared her for what dropped at midnight.

NCT’s Jaehyun and Sarang are reportedly dating.

“yoonoh ,” she gripped her phone tightly as she sighed out his government name. “is it real? please just tell me. please!”

jaehyun let out a sigh before finally speaking, “cece you know the answer to that.”

“clearly she fucking doesn’t,” sora commented, raising her voice enough fro jaehyun to hear across the line. cece wiped at her teary eyes before shooting her best friend a stern look. she loved sora’s fierce loyalty but right now she needed her to just shut up.

“just let me explain, baby, please?”

“no” sora interrupted once again as she gave cece a stern look. “sora get out.”

her face dropped along with her jaw hearing the words leave her mouth. the two girls stared at each other with cold expressions as they both waited for the other to crack. sora rolled her eyes dramatically as she watched cece softly ask jaehyun to give them a second.

cece never listened to anyone when it came to jaehyun. no one could say anything to her about the boy. if anyone ever tried to, she would go on and on about how no one understood them the way that they understood each other. she’d tell them how they were clearly made for each other and no relationship was perfect.they just had some “bumps” in the road. those bumps being jaehyun’s constant infidelity. it was always an us versus them situation, if anything ever went on in their relationship it was never jaehyun’s fault. when sora told her about the night where he tried hitting on her cece didn't speak for almost 3 weeks but she stayed with jaehyun throughout all that time. when doe tried to tell her that he was the one leading their short lived affair cece never listened. even after doe looked her in the eye and called her a ‘fucking idiot’ for believing jaehyun she still hates her to this day and refuses to forgive her no matter what she says. yet she forgave jaehyun so fast sora swore she got whiplash. she took him back.

“please sora … i love you but i need to do this alone.”

she was so stubborn. but sora knew that even though the thought of leaving cece’s side in this moment destroyed her heart she had to just let her learn her lesson on her own, no matter how many times she would be in the same situation. she needed to do this alone.

sora let out an irritated huff , her face still sour as she agreed and left the broken hearted girl sitting alone on the floor as jaehyun waited for the go ahead to speak again.

“ all those photos are out of context. i promise. they were taken after practice when we’d go on a 7/11 run ,nothing else. you can ask any of the members, we were getting group snacks.”

he spoke as gently as he always did. so soft and slow as if he'd never do anything more than love her. the sweetness of his tone wrapping cece in a blanket of calmness. yet she still found herself shutting her eyes tight as a means to stop the stream of tears spilling out of her eyes, they felt as though they would never stop. part of cece wanted to believe the innocence of the photos but she couldn’t help but doubt his words. even if this particular set of photos were not incriminating , a part of her knew that wasn’t the whole truth.

“ that isn’t true. we both know thats not the trut-”cece choked up towards the end, not being able to finish her sentence. her voice was tightening as she felt her heart sink deeper and deeper into her stomach.

there had been rumblings for a while that jaehyun had been seeing hayley behind her back. minji had said before that their relationship was suspicious, even claiming she’d caught hayley coming back from the boys dorms in the early hours of the morning

“i know jaehyun ,cece. i’ve known him for a disgustingly long time and i know his clothes. she was wearing his hoodie.i even asked johnny at practice and he said hayley did come over. she mainly hung out with jaehyun, ‘listening to his vinyls’.”

cece ignored it all like she always did.

her head fell back onto her bed in frustration as she waited for his answer. he had a habit of talking slowly, analyzing every word he was about to speak before saying them aloud. and usually cece found it endearing but in that moment it was the most annoying thing she’d ever encountered. “just tell me the truth jaehyun. right now, every fucking thing.” her voice was still fragile, wobbling slightly as she spoke.

“i am that’s the truth about the photos-“

“it’s not about the fucking photos!” cece interrupted, her frustration making her voice raise slightly but that didn’t mask the pain in it. “what? ”

his confusion had cece’s blood boiling in a way she’d never experienced before. what did he mean ‘what?’

“it’s about the actual article yoonoh. is it true?”

“baby-“

“now jaehyun! oh my god! please just… fuck!” cece’s frustrations had reached their peak, her voice dripping with desperation as she pleaded with the person she believed was the love of her life. “please,” she spoke softly as she closed her eyes, “are you seeing hayley?”

"i'm not ..." he let out a sigh, "i’m not seeing her. that’s not a lie.”

“but you’ve been sleeping with her haven't you?”

the long pause of silence that followed told cece everything she needed to know. the silence that lingered stabbed her heart; she felt like she couldn't breathe. she didn't expect him to say anymore, he'd never admitted anything overtly so she thought this was all she got. this was what she had prepared for, the answer of silence.but what happened next was so much worse than she had mentally prepared herself for.

“yes.”

cece’s heart shattered so overwhelmingly that she swore it was audible all across the country. she hadn't even realised she'd started crying again until sora burst through the door and softly shushed her in a comforting way. she grabbed the taller girl and hugged her close to her chest trying to soothe her erratic breathing that barely managed to come out between her earth shattering sobs. sora rested her lips on her forehead as her hands slowly stroked through her hair but that seemed to make her cry even harder.

“how long?” cece spoke between sobs, her words barely coming out.

“ce-”

“just answer the question please! how long were you cheating on me jaehyun?” cece yelled into the phone her emotions boiling over. if he was to finally admit to the one thing he convinced her was impossible he might as well give her the timeline. it's what she deserved.

jaehyun paused once again. his long beats of silence stretched their phone call much longer than it needed to be.

“jaehyun-!”

“around 6 months.”

“oh my god!” cece screamed as she buried her face deeper into sora’s chest. she couldnt breathe and it was starting to overwhelm her, she could pass out.

“ but it ended 3 months ago because she wasn't you. you know i love you, i’ll always love you. you're my sun, my person, the only person i feel myself around. she was nothing, a terrible mistake, the worst thing i’ve ever done. it didn't mean anything.i only want you, you're all that matters to me. i’ll do better, i'll do anything that will make this better because i love you. its you and me forever. i’m so sorry baby please listen to me.-”

sora grabbed the phone at that, “fuck you jaehyun. go to hell.” she spat the words out before hanging up. she was tired of hearing his stupid voice and poetic words that would pull cece back into their obsessive bubble. she knew it always worked but not this time and sora would make sure of that.

the rest of the members moved into the room as soon as they heard her heart aching sobs, they may have been muffled by sora’s yelling but they still echoed throughout the dorm. heeyoung ran in, joining them on the floor as she wrapped her arms around cece joining sora. dayna and yuri treaded more lightly as they came in, tissue, water and chocolate in hand as they kneeled in front of her.

cece felt as if she couldn't breath, she felt her throat close up around each molecule of oxygen as she choked out her breath. cece's mind was everywhere remembering everything at once: every touch ,every kiss, every i love you. everything that used to make her incredibly happy manifested as tiny needles that poked at her heart. everything felt hollow. anything that involved jaehyun was tainted. cece wished she could just act as if she wasn't shattered but she couldn't. she just couldn't stop crying.

" what's wrong with me?" cece whispered her voice wobbling as her tears fell in thick streams down her cheeks. the girls around her shushed her words, dismissing them immediately.

"there is absolutely nothing wrong with you cece. you're easily one of the best people i've ever met," sora emphasized, kissing the crown of her head. all the girls' voices morphed into one massive loving blur as they continued to sing her praises but it wasn’t enough for cece.

she knew they wouldn’t say it but she could feel that her members thought she was being ridiculous. but she couldn’t help it. she needed it to make sense and that was the only thing that made sense. he always said she was his everything, his sun. but if this was true then what had him running off to girls like sora,hayley and . she always had a nagging feeling that jaehyun was never really happy with just cece , in her entirety. he always dismissed it as her insecurities and swore she was everything and more. but if he actually believed that this wouldn’t have happened, cece was nothing like hayley . she felt that they actually felt more like opposites. she was alluring, soft and mysterious whilst cece was goofy, loud and talkative. hayley was a classic type of beauty whilst she was more modern and charming. cec never doubted that she was a pretty girl but no matter how confident she was in her looks there was no denying that hayley had a once in a lifetime type of beauty. they were direct opposites, something made him want her opposite. why did jaehyun want the opposite of her?

" then why- if all of that is true then why was i never enough for him?" she let out the most intensely sad sob, her hand flying up to cover her mouth immediately.

all the girls' faces dropped immediately as they shook their heads and swaddled her even deeper into the group hug.nothing worked to soothe cece. they tried everything before deciding just to hold her and let her cry. words were not working but their presence and comfort seemed like it did even if it was a minuscule improvement.

no one said a word for what felt like hours. if they did speak cece’s sobs drowned them out. she felt szick. her sobs felt like they came from the pits of her stomach, shifting any food she had left and making her ill.

everyone's head whipped to the side as they heard cece's phone ring again. heeyoung wanted to pick it up, the fire in her eyes evident.dayna held her back just as she was about to make a move to answer it,no doubt ready to tell both of them off. heeyoung huffed getting the message and flopping back down in front of cece.

"i'm gonna kill him," heeyoung said, her voice showing no signs of hesitation or humour, cece lifted up her head to see that her face was just as serious. she chuckled sadly as she rested her head onto yuri's shoulder. “ i'm blocking his number.” dayna declared as she picked up the phone, “do you wanna get dinner?” she asked as she placed it down seconds later, job done.

cece shook her head as she slowly climbed onto her bed. she was drained, it was clear to see. her eyes puffy and red whilst her cheeks housed never ending tears, it was clear her day was done.

the girls all received the message as they slowly made their way out of her room. “you are everything and more,cecelia. don’t forget that." sora whispered as she placed a sweet kiss on her best friend's cheek. with that she was gone.

and cece was alone. there was nothing cece hated more than being alone.

JEONGHAN ─── he was one of the frist to approach her OFC. I can see Jeonghan gather everyone to him. As soon as he landed his eyes on her, he knew that they were going to be bsf. He kinda just nonchalant smiled at her and started a convo out of nowhere. From that moment, she followed him everywhere, it became a sort of guide to her in a place of strangers. If she wasn't with Mingyu, she was for sure with Jeonghan. Now, they are still so close, maybe even her closest friendship not only among the group.

JOSHUA ─── at the start things were hard. They were the two new face of the company so they could both feel the pressure on their shoulder. Ayumi used to admire him from afar, not only because of his insaaane beauty, but because she was craving to speak to him. She wanted to know how he was feeling about that and know if they were going throught the same thing but she tought he didn't spoke Korean. When she got to know that he spoke korean as well, after more than a month, she felt so stupid. She assumed that he only spoke english since he was from LA but after that she ran to talk to him. Sometimes, they still tease her for that.

WOOZI ─── ofc things with Woozi were hard. He completely avoided her for the whole time, even when they discovered that they were going to debut on the same group. His frist impression of her was that she was a girl and weird, so a person to completely avoid. Ayumi didn't do a good job too because the frist thing she said to him was <how can you be so pale?> without even introduce herself. BUT SHE MEANT THAT IN A GOOD WAY, it seems that Jihoon didn't took it as a compliment. They later discovered they have a lot of in common and she love to disturb him in his studio.

DOKYEOM ─── they were so stupid for ignoring each other for so long, not because they didn't liked each other but in that green room there were so many people that they didn't discovered each other before. Eventually, following Jeonghan and Mingyu they discovered each other creating a good friendship between them. Don't know why but they fought A LOT back then that they even didn't spoke to each other for days, then forced by Jeonghan to apologize to each other and act like nothing happened again.

SEUNGKWAN ─── MOOOVE, they are the most silly but cute thing a the same time. Clicked almost istantly and boom, they never ever separated again. They got attached to the hip like twins. They are twins. Togheter they make the fun of everyone, tease everyone, judge everyone but you will never see them against each other. There are serious moment too ofc, where they will just listen to each other about the most deep thing, just only listening and understand eachother. She's always at his and Jeonghan house, in fact she should've move out with them before changing idea.

The industry's pretty girl finally made her Waterbomb debut! After four years of being one of SM's most successful solo acts, she finally made her long-awaited appearance at the hottest festival of the summer, and like everything Namie does, her set was gold! She's finally here, y'all! Namie's at Waterbomb! We did it!

Namie nation was so pissed every time she didn't go for the last two years, but once SM announced that she'd be going, it was all sunshine and rainbows for the first time since 2022!

She reached the peak of her fame (again) this year, so she and the rest of Pink Marmalade were trending like hell!

Namie has always had quite a lot of creative control over her solo work, and it was obvious here! She was so involved when it came to her styling for the festival (because of course she was), and she went full Y2K! She was taking inspiration from Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Ciara... like in the weeks leading up to Waterbomb she was quite literally making whole moodboards. Like, girl, it was serious.

And speaking of styling, let's get into those boots! No one knows how Namie's stylist even sourced those, but somehow it happened. They were truly the cutest thing that any idol has ever worn to Waterbomb, and "HER BOOTS" was trending for hours. So many people were attempting to find them, and Depop crashed a couple times as a result... oops!

Her Versace bikini top was also quite the hot topic! Like, fashion icon we know this already!

Aside from that, Namie's setlist was insane. She literally had all of her hits, all of the summer bops... but a good chunk of her fans were wondering where her debut singles were. And surprise, surprise, it wasn't SM behind the lack of debut era Namie.

It was Namie herself, actually. 😭

She didn't want any of her debut work on her setlist because not only did she kind of outgrow that (she's 24, y'all, come on), but those tracks really didn't fit the whole vibe of the festival. And yeah she's definitely right, but the people would've loved to hear just a wee bit of "Heart Attack," Namie!

But my God her set was incredible. She was smiling the whole time, interacting with the crowd like they were her best friends, and dancing like SM's lights were hours away from getting shut off. Like she bodied the choreography for "I'm Not Cool" like we all knew she would!

And the way she threw her hat once the chorus started... mothering.

For some reason, no one expected Namie to perform "Hey Girl" or "No. 1," but she did! Those are two of her biggest hits, and the crowd couldn't be happier!

At the time of her set, "Obsessed" was literally an unreleased song. And it was fully in English. No one in her crowd knew the words because it wasn't even on streaming services yet and it came out of nowhere, but it sounded good! It was a hit! Everyone loved it!

"NEW SONG" started trending on Twitter the second it started playing lol.

She sang one of her Japanese b-sides, too, which was also a pleasant surprise! And since the song was so long, everyone thought that was it, and then Namie and her cheeky self went "I have a surprise for you guys" right after her ending ment... as if there weren't enough surprises already!

And then "Cutie Honey" started playing... everyone cheered!

Namie is always so expressive every time she performs this song, and it was no exception here! She was up there acting like she was about to win an Oscar and making full use of that stage.

And the best part of all? Right before the first verse started, Namie took off her cute little tube top and quite literally flung it into the crowd! The way the crowd got so loud.

Whoever caught it (either accidentally or on purpose) didn't get to keep it, though lol.

Namie was all over the water guns, too. She shot at the crowd, at her dancers, and she even shot at the rest of Pink Marmalade because of course, they were front and center for their leader! But Jasmine did not appreciate that one-sided water gun fight one bit like for some reason she got hit the most!

And guess who was also in the crowd? Venus! Namie spotted them and waved like her hand was about to fall off like... leader of Constellation nation I fear lol.

After Namie's set of course the girls had to hit the festival circuit themselves! They saw Hyo, Nayeon, Taemin, Hwasa, Kiss of Life... like they got to see all of their faves!

They took so many pictures and filmed so many TikToks, and Waterbomb was essentially just a Sixteen girls reunion! Like Natty, Nayeon, and Namie were all in one room together after nine years!

All in all, Namie was one of the It girls of Waterbomb. She had a great time, #NAMIE_AT_WATERBOMB was trending for a full day, and a fancam of her performing "Cutie Honey" went viral with over nearly 3 million views on Twitter. We love that for her! ˗ˏˋ ꒰ ♡ ꒱ ˎˊ˗
