i'm supposed to start my new job on monday and i still haven't received my contract and i'm stressing bc i don't really know much about the job at all :// all i know is my hours each week and one of my responsibilities. i don't know if i'll be expected to do anything else (but it's likely i will). i was told the owner was looking into whether me being listed as self-employed or an employee would be better for her business, but she hasn't told me what she's decided. if she wants me listed as self-employed, i'll need to pay for an accountant, won't get holiday pay, won't be able to get a loan, won't be able to get a mortgage, as well as other issues. i've left my old job for this and now i'm panicking.

And people would probably wonder why i've left my job without any of this info first, but the owner runs her own business on her own. she's absolutely jam-packed, and that's the reason she needed help. she told me on the day she offered me the job that she was working on my contract, so i gave her a bit of leeway because she's doing everything solo and it's my dream job in an environment that seems like it'd suit my needs as an autistic person. and usually i'm desperate for info, like i need every little detail asap and get stressed if people don't respond within a day, but because i've been told by others that that's not how life works and there needs to be a bit of trust that people will get that info to you before following up, i've tried to be flexible. but now i know nothing about what i'm going into, i've given up my income, and i'm not getting any response from the owner because she was in hospital overnight. idk i'm just stressing outtt D:

An alternate version of Vera! @hellishgayliath daughter I've been drawing nonstop (this being no exception)

like always, this is a spiel so- yeah

Ever since looking back at my first sketch of her in this red dress a few days ago, my brain started to trail off to "what ifs" & one of these is what if Vera was bitter & frustrated to the extreme in contrast to her current self is improving from the event.

But the premise is that Vera would become a mob boss herself! While not as reknown as Big Mama, is still a bigger threat (compared to the smaller mobs like in that one episode in Hueso's restaurant)

I don't know how she'd be pushed over this edge to where she'd stop caring about others (being a therapist & all) & I won't even try lol. But in this version, it starts off with the break up (with my assumption of how she would handle it in my other post; compared to her actual reaction would be) & I'd imagine she'd just tear up the room before going to her own living quarters.

Being one of Big Mama's lovers, & a temporary model for the Grand Nexus's advertising, I'd imagine that their breakup would be talked about & Vera would probably start being bombarded at work; unable to take off from work. Maybe she'd start spiraling then? She'd fall off the face of the earth for a while before rumors of a borzoi mob boss rising up starts to become the talk of the city. Of course, I'm sure this would intrigue Big Mama or something, but Vera wouldn't announce her identity. & Idk, that's all I got lol

Aight lil details & facts this Vera would have

Vera's favorite color is ruby/scarlet, so I think her keeping this dress & making iconic look fits. It'd also tie into it being a constant reminder of when things took a turn for the worse & her trust in someone important to her was shattered. Also a funfact about her, by Helli, is that apparently she doesn't wear purple anymore; only wore the color when with Big Mama, aside for makeup. This version of her despises the color & refuses to have any hues of it near her as it reminders her of that Spider. It's why her make up is now red as well. It's also red because blood blends into it well :] (was gonna name her the Blood Queen, but that sounded a too much for Vera; also Red Queen to reference Helli calling Vera that in the first post I made of her)

I don't know how Vera feels about Big Mama fully (aside for wondering if Big Mama was pretending the whole time or not) in the sense of if she's over her. This version is probably less over her than the original, hating her guts but forever thinking of the past. Unlike the original, this version would probably carry any memories of those days with her (on good days) like the cloaking broach. She also has eye creases because tears & probably being more addicted to coffee.

Her being a therapist means she a smart cookie in psychology (i believe so), so she'd definitely use that to her advantage. Being able to see signs of lying, finding spies in her minions, etc.

3. What is the most amount of research you’ve done for the smallest detail? What was the detail and how much time/effort went into researching it? ahahaha *sweats* I don't actually research. I write what the characters tell me to write, so I write about stuff I already know - I don't think 'oh I want to write a story about XYZ' and then have to go read up on XYZ before I can write; I don't plan my writing like that. I am indeed an archivist - but that means I don't enjoy research in my free time because it's something I have to do for work. I have, however, included a *lot* of work stuff in All I Want Is You - Bard's mate Stella is basically a self-insert, the house is based on a real one that I work in every now and then, and some of the characters are inspired by members of the family I work for (specifically Thranduil's great-grandmother and great-great-aunt, the two gardeners/photographers/etc), basically because it was stuff I already knew.

4. Share a headcanon about Dáin in The Hobbit/Bard in Empty Vessel! Oh, Dáin, I love him so much. Billy Connolly is an old old favourite and he does such a fantastic job. It's been a very long time since I read the book, but in the movie I absolutely adore how bolshie he is and how rude he is to Thranduil - but I do headcanon that secretly he actually rather likes and respects him and that's why he's so rude. And he has a soft spot for kids so he is very fond of the Bardlings, particularly Sigrid because she stands up to him. XD Bard, meanwhile, in EV-'verse, never quite comes to terms with the whole leadership thing; it was different in Lake-town because he wasn't actually in charge, he was just looking out for the townspeople and trying to keep up a resistance to the Master. Of course, he's a born leader with resting nobility face, and there's nobody else who can even begin to do the job, after the battle, so he steps up because he has to, but he's never really comfortable with it, and he hates that they all decided he was going to have to be called a King.

5. Is there a tiny detail in one of your fics that you feel goes tragically unnoticed? Ooooh. I do like to put little references to canon like bits of dialogue and so on in there (so I have more than once had Thranduil saying that he's patient and he can wait, and I did recently have Aragorn boldly claiming to the twins that here's one ranger you won't catch off his guard, and Legolas alluding to 'they're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!' for example XD ), and sometimes people pick up on it and sometimes they don't - or at least, if they do they don't mention it in the comments :D I don't think I really have plots or plot points, I'm nowhere near that clever, so I don't think there's anything like that, but there are a lot of callbacks and internal references particularly across most of my canon-set stuff as it's almost all set in Empty Vessel-'verse, and I don't know that anyone's as invested as I am to notice it XD

20. Scanning the mind of a serial killer sounds horrific. And to have the memory of it be deliberately provoked is awful, and to do it as a future weapon against you, when you’ve done nothing? The Vorlons really are enigmatic and are quite clearly working on totally different operating systems than the rest of the known universe.

Things to do while waiting for that mail from your editor/publisher

Okay, so I sent my editor a summary of what I planned to do with my upcoming project.

She responded a couple of days later with questions. Cool so far. We discussed everthing and I send her a revised summary. Cool Cool again. Then things got inbetween on her side (I started writing anyway. It´s my project after all and they are basically buying the thing as a finished product not one they can make decisions on plotwise). More things got in the way on her side - no definite Go from her/the publisher. Ah, well. New editor takes over to speed things up and discusses the project in her team. That was days ago, the original mail being like a month ago, and now I sit here and .... wait? I would love to just keep going with my "I don´t actually care too much about it all and will do my thing regardless"-attitude but the restlessness took over yesterday and there´s no stopping it.

So, here´s what you can do while you wait:

enjoy the time off (haha, good luck telling your writer brain to chill)

read other peoples shit (yes! go for it! I´d recommend a thick book to keep you occupied for a while or short stories if you can´t decide on what to read)

get away from your desk and go outside (seriously though, do it!)

clean your space (an off-topic thing to focuse on but not too much)

call your writing bestie and rant - then cry - than rant - then hang up and binge a series

find out which tea you really like. take your time, test thoroughly

What NOT TO DOOOOO:

give in to the impulse of starting something new (I´m not talking writing-wise, I am talking life-wise. This is just a matter of a couple of days, okay. It makes no sense to plan a trip around Europe or start a University degree ALTHOUGH researching stuff like that might make your brain feel like you are doing something useful and not wasting time. BUT SERIOUSLY don´t act on it. Don´t buy the cheap second-hand boat and cruise along the North Sea coast to Amsterdam where they have the best bookstores in Europa and arguable the coolest vibe, although let´s be fair in terms of vibe-check France would win. Italy on the other hand wins on "coolest history" like you could fly to Venezia and follow Giacomo Casanovas escape routes from various lovers apartments. don´t ... don´t climb up in the rooms though. There are people living there. Fiorenze: what a city! Rome not so much, but I´m an atheist and yk idk it just doesn´t get me. All three of these countries fall short on cinnamon buns. Seriously. Best cinammon buns are made in Iceland. But I would probably not survive a sailing trip to Iceland. then again Columbus did so... I´ll just check which route he took and

The fanmixes are those ones I've been pulling together since spring, so rest assured they are slated to be posted! I'm doing one for each crew member (except remaining unknown quantity Park, poor Park, or maybe lucky Park since all the mixes have heaps of angst tracks), and I was planning to post those first, then the three canon ship mixes, then miscellany like noncanon ships and Other Violet.

I haven't quite finished the first, Sana's...it's admittedly already on the longer side for a non-shuffle mix, but it needs a couple more tracks in the middle before I'll be happy with it. I've been listening to tracks I haven't heard by artists I like, and I found another good Sana track this morning...

But as I said in my tags there's...actually no reason for character mixes to come before the ship mixes? I think that that started as a vague plan when nothing was close to completion, and now it hadn't hit me yet that all three canon ships are ready. The Campathi mix is still on the shorter side, but shorter mixes aren't a bad thing, so I'm calling it done! Ship mix time! (I know, I could always interleave characters and ships, but I like categories. 😄)

I have. Never heard "concept ship name" as a term for that kind of ship name, I love it. I read "mint trees" and my gremlin brain immediately came up with something far worse:

I like the idea of "battle poetry" for Brian/Krejjh...they create battle poetry and he studied an epic poem. Of course, that could create confusion between battle poetry the ship name and battle poetry the thing. I can't think of any serious suggestions for Vikady... I actually think the fatal flaw of both mint trees and tea tree is not that they are silly but that the mint tea was also kind of Arkady's thing, so it would be nice to combine stuff that has to do with each of them. (Anyone?)

I HADN'T SEEN CAPTAIN SOUP. Glorious. I definitely got Campathi from you, IDK if you came up with it or just popularized it ("popularized" = "got at least one other person to start using it"...everything in a small fandom is relative, eh)?

The only ones I've come up with are Tripatel and Tripateliu, when I was trying to come up with a smushname for Arkady/Sana and thought it was cute their surnames nested together that way. Then I realized Violet's does too!! Fate, clearly.

To come full circle, I came up with Tripatel in the process of tagging my first post about fanmixes, since they were the start...

Last week I was listening to a new album and thought “hey this is a good Arkady/Sana track I should make an Arkady/Sana fanmix” which is all well and good but then as I was building the fanmix I kept running into tracks that’d work better for Vikady or Sana/Campbell or Arkady or…..and long story short I now have fanmixes in progress for Arkady/Sana, Arkady/Violet, Campbell/Sana, tscosi in general, Violet, Arkady, Sana, and Krejjh

arkady/violet arkady/sana campbell/sana does arkady/sana have a smushname a quick search reveals nothing that would bar sakady or tripatel from ship name use i think i'm gonna go with tripatel because I simply think it is cute that their names nest together that way

(Technically Arkady/Sana is at the rear of the posting queue because noncanon, but I'm also chicken since "Much of the appeal is that it'd be such a messed up disaster" seems like a great way to alienate anyone who doesn't ship it and anyone who ships it in the sense of thinking they'd be good together. But I'll human up and post their angsty, angsty tracks some day. 😆)

Doctor Who AU

As a Time Lord, Thomas would have a title besides his name. I chose The Defender - if there's one thing he is really good at, it's protecting his friends and family, and even us, the famders, that he doesn't know personally

The others sides, D & V, well... they take longer. He knows that he has been anxious and scared, but doesn’t want to remember those times,.

It’s actually his companion Joan who connects with Virge first. They bond, and Joan is able to be a calming, straightforward friend to this weird anxious clone of the Defender. It’s through Joan's (and then Talyn’s) influence that Thomas stops pushing Virge away, and accepts this Anxiety Defender as just as much himself as Morality, Logic, and Creativity.

Dee is a different story. It’s not just that Thomas doesn’t want to associate himself with selfish feelings- he outright denies that he’d been at all selfish in this recent conflict. I like the idea that perhaps the Defender is "the last Time Lord" - both he and The Doctor survived the Time War, but neither is aware of the other.

But Dee is bitter at being denied and pulls terribly disruptive pranks around the TARDIS trying to force them all to pay attention to him. Talyn is the first to accept him because they think the pranks are honestly kinda funny. They bring Lo and then Ro around, through pointing out how clever and creative Dee must be to pull these bouts of mischief off. L & R realize Dee isn’t an alien or an imitation- he’s just as much a copy of The Defender as they are. He has the same brain, the same spirit. He's just... selfish, and conceals information from the rest of the TARDIS' passengers.

Pat/Morality isn't a fan of this secretive kiddo who keeps being mean to his other kiddos. Plus, being selfish and secretive is wrong

Thomas/The Defender denies him the most. Even as Lo and Ro try to bring him around, he steadfastly denies that he could have possibly had such a strong feeling of selfishness to manifest another being.

Then, the TARDIS and its passengers lands in the middle of a war-torn, hostile planet. There are multiple warring factions, and none of them are entirely in the right. The Defender, his Sides, and his companions all try to make in-roads with the groups, separately and together, by appealing to their better natures.

Virgil points out how much safer it would be if they were to all lay down arms - but he's ignored, because “there's no way those other bastards would go along with it”

Logan demonstrates how illogical the very source of the conflict is - but his words go unheeded, because really “it's just THEM that's the problem, we'd stop fighting if only it wasn't for THEM”

Roman appeals to their sense of honor and how much more they could do if they worked as one - but that's just a daydream, because “THEY would steal everything we own! THEY have no honor!”

Patton tries his hardest to tell them all that fighting is just wrong, and they have so much in common - but the factions roll their eyes in dismissal at such naivety

Joan and Talyn tell stories of disagreements they'd had with friends growing up, even disagreements between each other when they've diverged artistically - but “you humans could never understand OUR fight!”

The Defender gets quieter and quieter as he watches all these arguments get shut down. He gets flashbacks to the Time War - is this inevitable? Has he been wrong to trust in the better nature of all beings?

He finally lashes out in anger, yelling at all the factions at once, telling them they're a disgrace. Almost as one, all the factions start to turn on these intruders

Surrounded by hundreds of battle-ready aliens, separated from the TARDIS, Thomas and his companions are terrified. They've burned through all the goodwill and patience, and nothing they've tried has worked

Just as Thomas  is attempting to hide all six companions and sides behind him, the TARDIS lands in front of them and Deceit leaps out

He lectures the factions on how really, “this was all an elaborate scheme.”

“Ssssurely you could tell - this was just a plot to get you all on the same side!

Look at you - you have a common enemy. You use the same weapons, have the same righteous anger. This is what my friends have been telling you all along - you have so much more in common than you care to realize.”

The aliens are taken in enough for Deceit to get all his companions to safety in the TARDIS.

As they take off, Thomas takes Deceit aside. "What were you talking about? None of that was on purpose. We just... failed"

Deceit shrugs. "Selfishness isn't always malicious. Sometimes selfishness looks like self-preservation. Sometimes it looks like self-defense."

and then there's a big-ol group hug

Pat realizes that Deceit's quick thinking kept all his kiddos safe. Thomas realizes his doesn't have to be ashamed. He accepts Dee as part of him, and an important part to boot.

(and they all Dooooo-Weee-Ooooo'd happily ever after)
