Earlier this week, I reblogged a fanart piece for the Mouthwashing game, wondering why it was so popular, as while I had seen the game months earlier, seeing Tumblr get so into it was surprising as at the time, it didn't stand out to me too much when I first watched it. After being nosy and snooping around the tags, I now fully get why it has become such a phenomenon here.

Anyway, the whole thing kind of inspired me to want to make my own lil space crew. I'll be keeping their designs simple though, as I don't wanna stress myself out with this too much; its just a small side thing for funsies. I don't have full design ideas for others yet, but I figured I can at least post this guy for starters. I admittedly don't fully like the poster one, buuuut IDK how to fix it rn so I'll leave it as is.

The poster's Lone wolf quote is basically Stefan's mantra; it both shows how despite what he may seem like at first glance, he very much cares about the people around him, and how the whole "lone wolf" thing isn't even realistic (and in a way, harmful way of thinking), and Stefan knows that.

When I say "dad" I mean he is the responsible friend who tries to keep most shenanigans at bay - mainly from The Inventor and his old friend.

The person yelling for him is his crew's youngest member, a gal who's kind of an inventor type that he sort of big brothers.

He's bi, tends to be oblivious to people's crushes on him because of a lot of self-loathing caused by what happened

He met pretty freaky people in prison, but NOBODY was as scary as his current captain, according to him.

The crew is very small, because many people tend to not be able to handle the dynamics they have; there's the Captain, Co-pilot, medic, the rescue systems officer (and self-proclaimed inventor), and now Stefan as the general ship mechanic. (at least those are the ones I have ideas for. I could add one or two more later)

Or, as Stefan would call it: the Queen Devil (affectionate), Airheaded Dumbass (sometimes affectionate, sometimes not), the Angel, and of course, the iconic KID NO DON'T TOUCH THAT!

The one calling for him in the image is indeed this "kid no"

His childhood friend has a crush on him, and so does the medic lady. He has NO idea about either, because while he keeps calling his friend dense, he sure as HELL isn't any better lmao (the Captain and the systems officer find it VERY fun to watch)

Those two aren't competitive or anything about their shared crush, they're both the kind of people that just want their loved ones to be happy and would be happy for either if they got lucky - provided the dumbass would notice either.....

His wolf motif is because of his surname meaning "wolf"

BG STORY STUFF: Stefan wears a gas mask, because of his sensitivity to a common gas type utilized in most spaceships' systems in this story; a special type of non-flammable gas, that unfortunately can cause hallucinations, and in his case, causes bouts of severe aggression/Lack of sense of pain.

-----> The reason why he has an odd reaction is because of some evil scientist shenanigans he had to go through as a kid, unknowingly to him and his mum, who thought the doctors were trying to cure a terrible illness he supposedly had. (They were just testing out brainwashing stuff, you know, usual evil government bullshit)

------> he ended up in prison because while working in another ship, he had a severe fit and killed a lot of his coworkers (whom he already had negative emotions towards due to their shitty behavior towards the woman staff - he was raised better by his mama)

-----> There was a massive riot in the prison he was in, hence he managed to escape.

His friend insisted on helping and got him in the ship; Stefan initially avoided everyone else like plague afraid he'd have a fit, but did grow fond of the oddball group pretty quickly.

Then, during a space-pirate raid, he learned that he can actually recognize this group even in that state, so they aren't in danger from him - plus their captain is a very prepared woman, and had already figured out his history. (She has stuff to knock him out to sleep it off)

When did you start writing?

Like wayyyyyyyyy back, I technically wrote my first story when i was 11. I didn't write again until i was 15 (original pieces + fanfics), then i stopped and Im back at it again at 26 ayoooo

Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?

if i really need to search further into my favorite books, i would definitely say psychological horror and dramas

Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?

I don't know writers enough to really get an idea of how to compare myself to any of them, but I do know that i tend to emulate what i'm exposed to, so if I read an entire series from an author, and they used a certain syntax, i'll tend to also do it by force of habit. (i also consider it a flaw cause i see it as hindering my writing creativity ;-;)

Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?

its my personal pc that doubles as my work space, so its a bit all over the place ngl haha, theres a lot of astarion stickers and posters, all the furniture (keyboard, mouse, desk, etc) is pastel purple (my favorite colour), i have three screens (mostly for work but its also useful in day to day life) and my three wallpapers are astarion, of course. sometimes when i feel a writers block, i found out that writing on my laptop does unblock me! in that case, youll find me typing away on my couch in my living room uwu

What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?

MUSIC. What I write will be highly dependent on what I listen at the moment, like I was really into boywithuke when i wrote my angsty fics, and then i moved to a dark romance playlist and that got me going for die for you but then i was unable to continue my other fic cause i wasnt in an angsty mood anymore ._. (i swear i didnt abandon it, it just isnt the playlists turn to play on repeat) and rn im a lot into sleep token and ari abdul

Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?

So. Much. Smut. And angst. not surprising! my writing will also often depict my current state of mind. dw im in therapy, im working on it

What is your reason for writing?

It's my favorite creative output/the one im most experienced in! i wanna start drawing but i never find the time to really get into it and also terrified of failure which brings me to my second reason, its all i think i can do and i get dopanine reading nice comments teehee

Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?

when people tell me about a favourite part, when they liked the tension i managed to create, how i convey some characters, and most of all when i get told they loved a character i created!! this is so encouraging and pushes me to continue <3

How do you want to be thought about by your readers?

i dont know how to answer to that .-. uh, i guess i want to be liked? seen as a good writer if anything? idk man ;-;

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

Definitely descriptions, and creating a build up in a scene. I feel like it comes naturally to me and people have often told me that they are never lost when reading my scenes which reassures me so much LMAO I feel validated I also think I make really fun dialogue, especially banter with my ocs/tavs

How do you feel about your own writing?

i often self criticise my own work a lot, and i get that imposter syndrome where ill reread my work before posting and go "what the hell" in those moments, im grateful im not writing on paper cause that sheet would find its way to the trash real quick ^^ ' im sincerely truly blessed that my partner offers himself to read my pieces and beta read them, and tell me his honest opinion (there are things i wrote i wish i could forget and yall better be thankful he was there to stop me from posting first versions)

When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely for yourself, or a mix of both?

mix of both definitely. initially i wrote my own ideas and if people do end up liking them hell yeah!!! glad im able to find people that vibe the same way i do! then again, when i write for people, even if most of it comes from my silly little imagination, it was initially influenced by the request itself and is going to guide the writing specific to this piece, which honestly makes sense imo

32) Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

i listen to SO MUCH MUSIC!!!!! it depends on what im wrting tbh but i just queue up a bunch of songs in my liked playlist and write and write until it ends or im no longer on that flow. and well my music taste is an absolute mess so there isnt any one definitive band or genre that does it for me (i only pay attention Sometimes) but i suppose artists like mitski and queen would be a decent summary of my taste 😅

50) How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

gravity falls, no stop. the first one that ever piqued my interest was versability (originally on ff.net me thinks) and god damn it HOOKED ME!!!! gravity falls was already getting me up but wow that just got me SO MUCH HIGHER. i have a few authors i started binge reading like thesnadger and pinesinthewoods, i started extracting fics from reccs from tumblr artists, soon discovered ao3, and never looked back. and as for writing fic,,,,, well frankly it was the search for the cure’s original form that got me GOING!!!! it originally had crappy ocs as the forefronters but i soon changed that lmao (im definitely not saying theyre bad in general, just those… no) and i wrote So Much For It on my notes app. i didnt realize i culd actually show people until way later, in which i did, and realized that it could actually be better. thats why i reversed back to part one, made the story a part two, scapped the ocs, and…now we’re here. i still love it and gravity falls, i dont really show it here anymore. i really should, man. i need to write for them again!!!! it still excites me!!!! and the prose that im weaving now,,,, id DEMOLISH THE GAME!!!!!!! :)

though i suppose if i had to pick one here…god its between time loop and presumed dead (and grief/moruning but idk if thats a trope so much as it is a theme). okay. its finally time for the brainwashing discussing of the fic ! i can tell you alllll about that story and it will be my pleasure sonny 🫡 its a very long story. but short verison in case you dont want to go on: its a Titanic epic . april 1912. iceberg. ive read a few that are AMAZING, but i wanted to write one that catered it allll to Me. it has lesbians, heaven sucking ass, flood parallels, and a king of the world AND draw me like one of your french girls scene. very nice 🔥

okay now its time for the long story. so a super super long time ago for a post i cant even remember (i really wanna find it 😭😭) i for someone reason went on a tangent about the titanic. i had just read this fic called sinking into the sea which was tbh VERY GOOD (and i would read it again fr fr ) but at the time, i was kinda bummed that aziraphale and crowley never actually Interacted when i had expected. aziraphale didnt even know crowley was there!!! it left me feeling melancholy, and realizing that all of the titanic fics ive ate up to that point didnt HIT hit the spot (i didnt find this after this realization, but again, theyre not even on the boat 🤧) so i was feeling a bit incomplete. i started ranting and ranting it was a wholeee wall of a text of what I would do with a titanic story and i realized oh wait i can Do Something with this because i haev free will and actual (somewhat) coherent skill. pepper jumped on the wagon, REALLY REALLY encouraged which i cant thank enough for, and….we’re here. its brewing. i had a very large interest in the titanic for a long time before this tbh, so being able to insert it into The Interest just JUMPSTARTED my brain and it still does to this day. now for the plot….

its 2020, a year after the apocalypse (no pandemic). anathema, newt, brian, crowley, and aziraphale have been assigned to plan adam’s 12th birthday party—they shenanigan, as you do. on the day of the party (adam’s birthday) anathema and newt find a chest in jasmine cottage’s attic full of titanic relics, including a pack of polaroid photos (handheld cameras did indeed exist in 1912, i checked !) which kinda might sort of have a photo of aziraphale and crowley!?!?! it was sent to them about six months before. but after the whole Second Volume fiasco, anathema just sort of wrote it off in that way and Hid It. but newt was curious, he found it, and god it was writtent his way wasnt it. (well, not by the nutter they were thinking of actually). anathema confronts them about itsoon after, and they all sit down to hear the story of the titanic in a sort of rose dawson beat. then its 1912—50ish years since the holy water incident and almost a century since the resurrectionists disaster. aziraphale has been assigned to take this trip to new york for Some Reason (we found out why later) and happened to invite crowley to come along to attempt to make amends after Allat (he really does feel bad, but he will NOT do the holy water thing yet </3) shit occurs, but history atlarge will not be rewritten. it does change their story, though. adding a sprinkle of interest in the device family line. agnes prophec(y)(ies), dancing on deck under the stars, playing cards with humans and winning by a Lot, aziraphale’s artistic skills are put to use at one point—ughghgufhits just so DEAR TO ME!!!!! and of course the conflict will come later, especially considering the religious connections to the titanic sinking—“not even God can sink this ship” type conversation 🥰 aziraphale can and will be made uncomfortable. its for the character development dont worry about it. i even have a playlist for this fic (it sorted by the way the tone shifts thru the story, some songs are silly but they had to stay). pep has also made some song covers to some of the songs that ive heavily connected to the fic and I REALLY FUCKING LIKED. LIKE A LOT. THEYRE AMAZING YOU SHOULD LISTEN IF YOU WANT TO!!!!

the point of all this is that i like titanic fics and im trying to throw my hat in the ring even if its just for me and my friend 🔥🔥 because while others have fed me, i havent seen ones that have documented like Every Single Day on the titanic that aziraphale and crowley would theoretically have as well as developing aziraphale and crowley’s relationship while taking into account whats happened before (insert the story into a part of the timeline seamlessly i think thats how i’d describe) AS WELL AS connecting the reason why the titanic was such a freak tragedy and how the world is not fucking fair instead of just “oh whoops the thing sank 😞” i want NITTY GRITTY DETAIL!!!!!! I WANT GUILT!!!!!!! I WANT CHAOS!!!!!!!! I WANT TALKING ABOUT GOD!!!!!!! I WANT AZIRAPHALE IN A MENTAL CRISIS!!!!! I WANT CROWLEY JUST WANTING TO FUCKING LIVE FUCKING PEACEFULLY!!!!!!! hii! idk if you do this stuff but do you have tips on how to start build an acc? like mutuals followers just general stuff. i'm kinda stuck lmao.

ahhh this one is a hard one to do. if im being honest, i’ve had this account for a while, at least since 2017 😬 buutttt i took a look at your account, im liking the vibes.

when it comes to fanfiction and building an account, usually you have to start writing and posting. i would suggest looking at some of your favorite writers, especially on tumblr if it’s gonna be your main domain and see how they layout their post and try to do something similar.

i’m going to use my acc as an example but there’s many other ways you can go about this.

when i’m looking for fanfiction, i like to see the title of the fic and the person that im looking for specifically. i do it as the title of the fic, some people have it in the body of the text posts.

next i try to summarize it to let people know what it’s going to be about. when i look for fanfic, i have something in mind that i want. i always put warnings because it’s the easiest thing to do/keep track of. sometimes fics can get heavy.

i put a word count in case someone doesn’t want to get caught up in a long fic and they’re just looking for something short and sweet.

and notes is where i put anything important. for that fic, it was the fact that it was based on the taylor swift song. if you’re ever writing based off a certain episode of a show, i would put: spoiler: season x, episode x. or s2ep3. something in that general format.

next comes your fanfiction. people will either love it or hate it. and that’s totally fine. you can put your heart and soul into something and they don’t have to like it. you’re just putting your works out on the market, if they wanna read they will!! if they wanna come back, they’ll follow!!

and tagging is probably the most important way to get traction, in my opinion. i have curated this tagging system over a couple years. it seems to work pretty well. the only rule that i NEVER break is that i DO NOT tag fandoms or characters that are not the main interest of the fic 🙅‍♀️

for example, if the fanfic is about finnick, there is no way that i’m tagging a side character like katniss just for existing inside of it. it clogs up the katniss tags.

anywayyy, that’s my unsolicited advice for writing in general. you just gotta write and post. people will find it in the tags. will you get a bunch of likes/reblogs overnight? not at first. but as long as your works are consistently good, people will follow and come back.

followers on tumblr are not a huge deal. most of the time, people are finding your fics through the search function. they’ll like and move on. if your writing sticks out, that’s when they search your account.

i do not base my entire account around followers either. people will follow and then won’t interact for a loooonggggg time. or ever again. there’s nothing you can really do about it. it’s nice to see a high number but it’s not the end of the world

AND when it comes to mutuals? i don’t really have a lot of advice. i got a lot of my mutuals from the colby brock fandom (shout out to them) back when it was like 15 of us and we were running the whole fanfiction game lol. we still follow each other, but hardly interact.

and it’s kinda the same for some of my other mutuals 🤷‍♀️ i love them all. i think about them sometimes. if we talk to each other, that’s great. if not, i’m not gonna get all uptight about it. life gets in the way and we lose interest in shit.

mutuals are nice if you’re boosting each other’s fics. or to talk to about the latest news with the fandom. yknow. they’re just an internet friend.

Day 15 - Are there any ships you dislike?

alrighty so. there are only rlly four i ‘dislike’, and the first three… it’s more complicated than anything, it’s not entirely utter pure-n-simple disdain. it’s less about the ships themselves (in two of the cases, anyway) and more about how they seem to be perceived by the fandom + how much they dominate everything. other ships exist, guys! the other characters exist! anyway ill try not to be mean but i am gonna be petty, lol

so for starters, yeah, jack x ianto. i have a very specific view of it, that i do enjoy, but the fandom seems to be doing something else entirely and i've developed some resentment despite myself. especially bc it’s overrated as fuck. don’t get me wrong, it’s iconic, as far as being culturally significant gay rep, but if im honest idk how well they hold up in 2024? i thought their relationship in s1 and s2 of the show was lackluster at best. poorly written bread crumbs. and yeah i know it was big for 2006 but im just personally kind of offended that they could show them sucking face but not show the intricacies of why the hell ianto would fall for a guy who shot his girlfriend down?? like, their relationship is inherently dark and angsty to me and im interested in exploring that, bc the show certainly doesn’t (initially) bother to, and a lot of the fan content i see is either fluffy (??????????), or angsty in a Tragique way, or is just kind of… fetishy and whumpy? people slot them into a Specific Kind of Dynamic and it grosses me tf out. so the fandom culture rubs me wrong, and then it’s just… such a bummer to like owen and tosh and gwen in a fandom that only seems to prioritize this one ship. there are 22k fics in the torchwood ao3 tag, and 13k of them are janto. now, all that being said… they do intrigue me and endear me, just a bit. but it took the audios to make me give a fuck about them, which is sad. 

on that same note - i have the same relationship with tosh x owen, but i'm significantly less fond of it, cuz it just plain rubs me wrong. i like them in theory, so i spent months trying to figure out how to make them work and what other people are seeing that they think is so endearing and cute - i just can't find it. owen's treatment of tosh is just about the only thing i can't stand about him. he treats everyone poorly, but most of the rest of the cast defends themself (or even hit back, like ianto and gwen, and thats why i ship them with him! it’s spicy! i love balanced unhealthy dynamics in fiction hfdsjkf i can’t lie) - but tosh just lets him, creating an unhealthy power imbalance where she’s just getting hurt over and over again, and it makes me wanna fucking punch him cuz she does Not deserve that. i want him far away from her lmao. except under certain circumstances, cuz i have written fic about them, and i’ve read like three rlly good ones (and the main link between them is tosh stands up for herself and puts him in his place! i HATE how he walks all over her in canon ughhhhhhhhh). additionally, i do admittedly enjoy the angst of their canon arc. i just think fandom throwing them together and making it cutesy is lazy, uncreative, and an injustice to both characters. i think the SHOW throwing them together was an injustice to both characters, especially tosh’s. they're tragic and compelling, ill give them that, but theyre not sweet, and i don't think they'd be good for each other. 

(also worth noting on a show where everyone has tension w each other, imo barrowman & gareth and naoko & burn pull it off the least convincingly and have little to no chemistry. like every other duo just kind of sparks in some way or another, and neither of those duos do. which SUCKS bc they’re the canon ones. but it’s also heavily poor writing like they were doing the best w what they had. grr. like i still dont know what the fuck ianto likes about jack or what tosh likes about owen 😭 that’s ridiculous!)

the other ship i’m petty about is jack x john hart. i just think it’s far too popular for what it is. idek why that is, do we have a substantial amount of buffy fans in the fandom? don’t get me wrong, i liked john in the show + i liked their relationship as well, but i'll always be annoyed when a minor character gets more attention than the fascinating main ones. 

and lastly i hate john x ianto, because i respect ianto, lmao. i can’t lie, if he was my fav i’d probs ship it HJFKDSHFK i love putting my favs in awful situations. but as is it just grosses me out. get him outta there!! 

tldr: i don’t interact w the john hart side of the fandom, and if a fic is tagged 'jack/ianto tosh/owen gwen/rhys' i probably won’t read it 😷

Incredibly underrated, in my opinion. It captures perfectly what it feels like to leave home and then return only to find out that you can never go back home again. Not in the same way, at least.

3. The Truman Show (1998, dir. Peter Weir)

I wish I could watch it again for the first time just to experience everything I felt during that last scene all over again.

4. El Secreto de sus Ojos (2009, dir. Juan José Campanella)

It won the 2009 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Everything about it is perfect and it has one of the best scenes/monologues in film history.

5. Perfetti Sconosciuti (2016, dir. Paolo Genovese)

This film is so good, there have been multiple adaptations. I watched two of those, but the original Italian one remains unparalleled.

6. The Two Popes (2019, dir. Fernando Meirelles)

This film resonates so much with me, due to my toxic relationship with Catholicism. I watched it several times when it came out and even made my super religious grandma watch it. She loved it.

7. Rush (2013, dir. Ron Howard)

I became OBSESSED when it came out. I made everyone around me and their mothers watch it. It's my favorite Howard film, it has one of the best Zimmer scores (and that's saying something) and, in my humble opinion, it's the best acting we've seen from Chris Hemsworth so far.

8. Trance (2013, dir. Danny Boyle)

I love this one so much, it grates me that it's not more widely known/mainstream. It's a brilliant psychological thriller that deals with memory and the substantial role it plays on who we are.

9. Maid in Manhattan (2002, dir. Wayne Wang)

I have no excuse for this other than the fact that I love the trope and I love J.Lo and Ralph Fiennes together. They're such an odd pair, yet they work? Idk, everything about this film makes me feel good.

10. Primal Fear (1996, dir. Gregory Hoblit)

Oh man! Another one that I wish I could watch for the first time all over again. I don't wanna say much, in case there's anyone that hasn't watched it just.. do it ASAP!

Some thoughts that I had that just needed to be written down... Now, I’m not going to say anything groundbreaking here, but writing things out helps me work through my own opinions. So read or don’t read, that’s up to you.

So if there’s one thing that Sabres fans have been through over the past four years, it’s been a perpetual state of ‘we’re going to be better next season.’ Now, that’s honestly just a normal product of the off-season, you kinda forget just how bad things were, changes are or aren’t made, promises are made and not fullfilled.

Just a quick outline of the off-season hype:

After 2014-15 (54 pts): Tank season had just finished, people believed things couldn’t get any worse, Eichel was drafted, and despite what everyone says, people were still looking forward to the season coming.

After 2015-16 (81 pts): the season was actually a pretty decent improvement over Tank Season, Bylsma promises that team will be at 95 pts the next season and in playoff contention, Jack and Sam had exhibited their chem in the last few weeks and people were excited to see them again.

After 2016-17 (78 pts): Big disappointing season,  steps promised not made, Tim Murray and Dan Bylsma are fired, Jason Botterill is hired, the team on paper seems to be a good one in theory.

After 2017-18 (62 pts): ....well.... 17-18 is gunna need its own paragraph here real Quick...

So 17-18 is arguably and also not arguably the worst season in Sabres history, even if the point total is slightly better than Tank Season. Like I said, on paper, the team looked to be a good one. People were excited with the change high up on the food chain, GMTM’s firing really opening people’s eyes to how fucked he kinda was and Jason Botterill pretty much built the Penguins into the perennial organization it is ( unlike Dan Bylsma who inherited his Cup winning team ).

But everyone knows that a team is more than just players thrown together --- there were teams in the NHL that on paper, did not promise to be as successful as the Sabres but were. And all that has to do with team chemistry and having players that wanted to not only play the game but play for each other.

The Sabres, to put it lightly, did not have that.

And that is why people say that 17-18 is the worst season in history, because even in tank year, while the players were BAD, they played with passion and put the best product they could out on the ice and people could see that. It couldn’t have been easy, especially in the end when people would cheer for the opposing team ( still not proud of that at all ). It was obvious this past season that there was a whole lot more not connecting than just passes. Players didn’t want to be there, they weren’t a team let alone a family that winning teams require, and that just drove the depressing circle around and around and around.

Which brings finally bring us to the off-season of the 17-18 Sabres, and why it’s so different and important.

Granted, had the Sabres not won the lottery, I might be writing a much different narrative, though in the end, I don’t think it changes what I say all that much. Besides that’s not what actually happened so who cares?

Before the lottery people were fed up and I don’t exaggerate when I say that had they not won the lotto, viewership would have gone down a metric ton. Which honestly, is pretty long for a team to keep it’s viewership when the product has been subpar at best. It’s the kind of city that Buffalo is ---they want to trust their teams and believe in them (ha Billieve), but for the Sabres, 17-18 was the last season people were going to take. The Sabres had finally entered the “prove it” stage to the fans.

But then, the Sabres win the lottery when no one was expecting them to. That in itself is important. I could talk another thousand words on why Draft 2018 is so much different than Draft 2015, but it boils down to: no one expected to win it and get Dahlin. It was lightheartedly joked about, but honestly, almost everyone was resigned to picking four. No one had this expectation or entitlement to winning the rights to draft Dahlin, and because of that, when the Sabres did win him, everyone was pleasantly surprised.

It completely changed the off-season landscape. With a few bounces of ping pong balls, GMBOT’s offseason work became a BIT easier. Certainly, that off-season hope was quickly reinstated with little to no work at all. Fast forward to the draft and to when Dahlin and the organization is free to speak on Dahlin + Sabres 4ever. And Dahlin certainly blew away everyone’s expectations: a prospect that loves us and excited to be here? I could write another 1000 words on this and its important, but maybe on another post. Point is, Buffalo has always loved players that love the city and will love them back. That’s one of the reasons why Casey is loved so much, and why the love for Dahlin practically skyrocketed.

Dahlin brings his own shot of hope, but that’s not the only thing the 18-19 Sabres have going for them and that is what makes this upcoming season so different to Post-Tank Season.

The thing about GMBOT is that he understands how organizations and perennial playoff teams are built, and unfortunately for him, the GMs before him drastically cut down the time he has to work with. That’s not stopping him though, he’s building this team right ---finally.

While Dahlin is a big piece of this off-season hope and the team going forward, he’s not the only reason fans should be excited for next year. It’s in the fact that Dahlin will not be alone. GMBOT is finally building the core that he wants, and it’s going to be the core that he wants: a youthful promising core age 18-23 that will grow and mature together into its prime. By my count, the Sabres will have: Dahlin, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Rasmus Ristolainen, Casey Mittelstadt, Linus Ullmark, and Brendan Guhle on the team next year and that doesn’t even touch on some of the periphery players that could make it out of camp. That is a lot of new blood and guess what? New blood, rookies change the culture.

Which brings me to my next point: Culture Change.

It’s been said a ton that the atmosphere in the dressing room is so so important. We saw it especially in Vegas, who was a team on paper should not have performed nearly as well as the team that made it to the Stanley Cup Final. It’s simple, good people who want to play hockey and want to play for each other.

The Sabres dressing room has been called a lot of things that boils down to toxic, and it showed on the ice. Perhaps helped along by Dahlin’s presence in that they want that dressing room to be perfect when he steps into it, this off-season has been dedicated to righting the ship in that regard ( while yes, beginning to patch up the many, many holes in the depth charts ).

Development Camp is a great example of this working. Assistant GM Randy Sexton said that they’re not just looking for good players but good people, and that it’s sometimes hard to find both. Dev Camp is a great example of the culture finally beginning to shift. It was stated that the atmosphere at Dev Camp was so much different from last year, that this was the best one in a long time. Amerks Coach Chris Taylor said that last year on the first day he had to stop about five times to talk to the players because they were nervous and making mistakes do to that.

This year? Taylor said, "I didn't have to stop it this time around. That shows you the leadership, because we always practice what we're going to do drill-wise. The attention to detail that they watched and how much they wanted to learn, that they're ready in the corners, ready to go. Just that right there, that maturity level and the leadership qualities means a lot to me, that they weren't just putting their head down and just going through another meeting."

Sticking with the culture change rule brings us to the (somewhat) controversial Ryan O’Rielly trade.

Skill-wise, there’s absolutely no reason for ROR to be traded. He did what was asked of him and was a large offensive piece to this team. As several others have stated before me, GMBOT can say all he wants that ROR didn’t fit into his young core (he’s 27), but everyone knows this was an improvement by reduction. I think had ROR not made the comments he did at the end of the season about losing his love for the game that he would have stuck around a little longer, but not much (he would have been moved at trade deadline this upcoming season, in my opinion --after Casey had proven he would be comfortable with 2C alone).

ROR was a very good player and a very nice man, but he was a downer in that dressing room and maybe there were other things happening as well that we’ll never quite get the full story on (namely, the Eichel and O’Rielly rift). The Sabres were always going to lose the best player in the trade when dealing with ANY trade involving him, but I am personally happy with the outcome of it. The Sabres have patched up the bottom six, gained a tremendous prospect in Tage Thompson, and the 1st and 2nd around picks next year. That is a tremendous haul and honestly more than anyone expected him to get in the first place.

What the ROR trade does is shake the core of the team ( something that needed to be done and ROR was the most ready choice ) and it fully hands the reigns over to the young core of Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart and Co. Both Jack and Sam will be off their ELC contracts this upcoming season, they’re no longer rookies, and this has to be their team to take. Ridding the team of ROR helps ease that position along.

GMBOT also made the choice to trade Evander Kane (both a character piece and a ‘cannot afford in the future’ move) and Robin Lehner (much to the delight of fans everywhere). He is building his core and he’s saying to them, here, take over.

The Sabres culture is changing, and the approach is changing as well. It’s a copycat league and dareisay... the Sabres are slightly copying VGK. Sound fake? Just humour me a bit.

A lot of Vegas’ success was built on creating a team that loved each other and building a team out of basically, NHL rejects and giving them something to play for.

With the Sabres, we see that so far they have brought in the Blue’s Carter Hutton and prospect Tage Thompson. You hear the quotes in their post-signing/post-trade media scrums and you hear some interesting things, namely that both players felt extremely wanted by Buffalo. Hutton: "With Buffalo I was their guy and it gave me a lot of confidence.” Thompson: "Buffalo really wanted me and it's nice to be wanted.” Thompson also says some things along the line of feeling pigeonholed in STL and that the Sabres had big top 6 plans for him that he really liked and enjoyed having a team that had confidence in home.

It’s just interesting to me: Buffalo finally making players feel welcomed and giving them reasons to be thankful and to want to play here. Even Sheary (Pens got fucking robbed with that btw), was excited to help an upcoming young core and be on a team on the rise. With Sheary though, there is of course the factor that GMBOT was a big reason he was signed to the Pens in the first place.

To me, all these things just add up to a dedication to Culture Change.

People ( like my father ) criticize that past season, Housley, and GMBOT to no end and think they’re trash because they didn’t turn things around in one season, but the truth is that they never were going to do that. GMTM (and Darcy before him) did a lot of things to the organization that would take forever to heal. GMTM tried his best to make a quick turnaround, and in the process mined away what little foundation the Sabres had to begin with.

Well guess what people, you really shouldn’t be surprised: GMBOT said early on that he was going to take a year to learn the lay of Sabreland and figure out what needed to be done. And boy, what there a ton of shit that he found. This team was lightyears beyond the horrible he expected. And now, he’s finally making those key changes that need to be made. That man said he was going to make changes at the end of the disastrous 17-18 season and by god, he’s making them.

Darcy and Murray burned away years to try to be successful quickly and now and that was never going to work. When was the last time that the Sabres have had a late round gem? It’s been a while: Marcus Foligno was drafted 4th round. Olofsson was drafted 7th and could be a gem, we’ll have to see.

But GMBOT understands building through the draft, through Rochester, and through development. He is trying his best to fix the team now but while also setting the Sabres up for the future, and this is why the post 17-18 offseason hope is so different from off-season hopes from the past four years.

The Sabres have a lot going for them in years to come: the young gun core that will mature together, the prospects that excite people Dev Camp, the new blood in Dahlin and Mittelstadt, a lovable goalie duo that fans have been thirsting for since Miller was traded, a very tangible promise of an offensive defense, the obvious signs of culture change, the promise that this team is a family and it’s a family that loves its home of Buffalo.

Which is why I will end this as I have been saying for months now:

Sabres 2020, watch out NHL.

tokyo revengers idol au hcs part 3 that no one asked for AGAIN here’s part 1 and part 2 to get a better understanding.  this is what the members would be doing alongside their idol promotions+ what they would post on social media  toman tbh these guys are all just so damn funny on their own that they would constantly be invited to comedy variety shows. maybe perhaps doing something similar to seventeen or wanna one where they even have their own variety show on youtube (ie. seventeen’s-going seventeen series or wanna one’s show on mnet)  mikey-he would post basic food pics like of his parfaits or taiyaki but also it’s rare because he’d constantly forget his password. however on important days he’ll post long emotional and sentimental posts that hit you in your feels thanking his members and fans always. he also has a youtube channel posting random funny vlogs. draken- he has his own personal soundcloud to upload solo mixtapes/songs feat diff members. posts photos of his bikes and different tattoos he would be getting. responds with 1-2 words to fans during fansigns or ig comments but like mikey, once in a while, will also write heartfelt posts thanking everyone.  baji- his ig feed is filled with animals + dance practice vids. also has his own soundcloud too. trolls his members by commenting on their stuff. “delete this u ugly mf no one wants to see this”.  takemichi- very chatty, (sometimes too chatty where he’ll end up accidentally spoiling their next album info) and interactive on social media to his fans. tries his best to respond to most comments or ama ig stories questions. posts a lot of selfies and photos of his members. king of fan service.  chifuyu- beautiful photos of the sky a lot on his ig (in canon he wanted to be a pilot :,) ) along with cute soft selfies. (which baji and kazutora troll and comment being like “damn....u ugly AF!” “lmao stop pretending to act cute u loser”  kazutora- his ig is filled with pure chaos. just pics of him catching his members slipping (sleeping photos where they’re drooling or have their eyes slightly open or making ugly faces behind the scenes). also has photos of cursed memes and memes made by fans. he’s a literal enigma.  mitsuya- very wholesome ig photos- lots of photos of his family, group photos, sometimes cool artsy edited selfies. occasional photoshoot photos.  hakkai- ig is filled lots of #ootd photos and occasional photos from his modeling or acting gigs (he’s the visual, duh!) gets a lot of sponsorships from big brands.  pah-chin: has a joint youtube channel with peyan. they do silly challenges but will sometimes post dance videos (feat. baji) since they’re the main/lead dancers. fans love him because of his “matter-of-fact” responses that are funny without even trying. bonten because this group’s concept and aesthetic is mysterious, mature, artsy, gloomy, and dark they will take this concept to the grave. (minus a few exceptions) they are invited to variety/talk-shows but never make an appearance because they want to keep the air of mystery around them. (it’s a good marketing technique).  mikey- does not have any social media. he does have a private account to lurk around but no one knows what it is.  kokonoi- has a youtube channel but it’s locked and you have to pay to get into it. posts super short vlogs and teasers. thats it. This will probably be my last post since it’s getting boring but let the explaining ensue:

The age lying thing (imma put into bullet points):

I thought he and others in the discord was my age

I wanted to show ty my nsfw art cause I trusted him the most

I showed him, he liked it, and he drew art for it it was just a good time pretty much

Later on I realized he was not the same age so a huge oh fuck he’s gonna yell at me moment (probably not actually but I know adults can be very worried about that stuff which is understandable and right of them to do)

I don’t remember when I lied about my age exactly but I do remember I did it because I was worried I was going to be in big trouble and I didn’t wanna make him uncomfortable and ruin our friendship

I finally told him my age and I apologized sincerely. We calmly talked about it, he took away the more adult servers i could see (I never went in there after I found out and didn’t like going in there in the first place cause I’m not for nsfw stuff then you think), and then he put a “minor” tag on me so everyone knows. Tbh that was a huge relief and I’m glad he did that cause it was calmly resolved

I never sent nsfw art again unless it was in the cursed chat (which is harmless cause we all thought the stuff in that chat was well cursed so it was mostly shits and giggles)

However that being said I find it weird that he asked to see my nsfw art after I sent a shitpost edited version of it when he knew I was a minor and already told me that he was uncomfortable with what I did before hand

I do understand that it’s wrong. It was VERY wrong of me to do and I am sorry for what I did. I should of asked before hand but be being the dumbass teen I was I didn’t ask and I know my teen friends send nsfw all the time so yea I admit fault to that. Again I find it weird you asked me for nsfw when you knew I was a minor. Also I thought you told me you were in your 20s? That’s why I thought it was weird that an unknown source told me that you were 19 cause I remember you saying specifically “in my early 20s...” (this was after I told him my age btw)

When? You never told me you were asexual? I’m glad we were friends from the time being. Anywaysssss again I wanted to leave this in the past but alas ty still brings it up to this day and says he HATES me (which idc get over it you’re an adult) so that’s my explanation. build a little home | Din Djarin x Reader | Part One

A/N: I know this fic was mentioned quite a bit ago and here you are, part one!!! This is set before or at the start of season 2 so baby ain’t named yet. He’s just Child/kid/baby right now!

Warning: Sexual references. Mando tries to step on a rat lmao. There’s a brief mention of peeing idk?

Word count: 2,650, apparently!!

Summary: Being chased by a dangerous group who wants reward money, you, Mando, and the Child move into a basement on a planet where no one will think of looking for you.

“—looks like this is our home, little one.”

You and the kid on your hip looked at each other before you both continued down the steps into the underground level of the home; it was a small room with some shelves and a small bed pressed up against one of the walls, the only light coming in from a small window on the opposite side of the room.

The Mandalorian stepped down behind you and looked at the room silently, most of his attention on the man who was following with what few belongings you’d packed, speaking in his native language as he explained what was set up for you and where things were.

The three of you would be staying here for the foreseeable future, in a basement on a nowhere planet, because there was a group who wanted the reward money for the Child and they nearly cornered you a couple times as it was.

If it wasn’t for your or Mando’s quick thinking each time they found you again, they would’ve succeeded in their mission.

You both knew that meant the Child would be with Moff Gideon and neither of you wanted that, so you agreed that it would be best to hide out somewhere that they wouldn’t think to look until they gave up searching.

And there you were, on a small planet with small exports that no one thought about, looking around a discreet basement under the home of an ordinary couple where you would be staying, waiting for your connections on other planets to send messages that this group was no longer looking for you.

“It’s perfect, thank you.” Mando’s awkward politeness was something you always found so cute about him, though you would never tell him that you thought any part of him was cute unless you wanted that helmet of his to tilt in offense.

“Thank you so much,” you added, and the man nodded with a polite smile before retreating up the stairs and shutting the door.

You set the Child on the floor when he squirmed to be put down, walking around the small room to look at the items on the shelf.

Mando looked around the room again and then moved his gaze to you, quietly watching as you looked at all of the things that made up your hideout. “He said there’s only one bed and he assumed that we...I will sleep in the chair.”

His almost embarrassed tone made you look at him with a raised eyebrow as you wondered just what the man assumed about the two of you, but it was a pretty easy guess since the two of you traveled together, you supposed.

Not that you and Mando did need to sleep in a bed together, but it was easy to assume simply because you were two adults who were companions and...you were embarrassed too at the thought of someone thinking the two of you did things that involved one bed, looking at the chair he mentioned.

“I can’t let you do that,” you said with a soft gasp as you eyed the old, dusty seat.

“I sleep in the cockpit.” He walked around the room slowly, pulling a tattered curtain to cover up the small window in case anyone was trying to look in.

“I never said I liked that either, but there’s a spring sticking out of this!”

“That’s fine.”

He’d finished looking around to be sure there were no other ways to access the basement aside from the entrance and the window, faltering when he moved to your side and saw that the spring was in the seat of the chair and it would probably poke him right in the…

He crouched down in front of the chair and began toying with the spring to see if there was any way he could push it back in or even take it out.

You knew that being in the same bed with him was going to be awkward, but you couldn’t let him sleep in a chair and especially one as broken as this one. “Mando, we’re adults, are we not?”

There was silence for a brief second as he pushed the spring in triumphantly, then it popped right back out and he dropped his head with a huff.

“I am. Some might say your adulthood is up for debate.” He always told jokes with such a level tone that you wondered if he was serious sometimes.

“You’re hilarious, but I mean that we’re both adults, so I think we can sleep in the same bed and not think too much of it.” Sometimes you thought of being in bed with Mando the way that man assumed, but you knew that wasn’t going to happen and you were perfectly capable of sleeping next to him without needing to do that.

“Where’s the kid?” He changed the subject, but he seemed to be considering the bed as he stood up and stared at the chair.

“I think he’s just looking at the room.” You glanced around and frowned when you noticed the child wasn’t in sight.

Then you heard shuffling from under the bed and you smiled, walking over and crouching down to take a look at what he was doing under there.

There was a thumping sound that made you laugh a bit as you leaned down. “You won’t find any snacks there, little guy.”

Just as you were reaching a hand in to grab the Child out, something leaned into your side and your brow furrowed to see who you thought to be playing with the bed was standing right there, watching what you were doing.

You looked back to where you were reaching and you jumped back with a soft cry when a furry, little creature ran out with a piece of cloth that it was probably going to use to make its own bed or something.

“Mando!” Your cry of his name made his head snap up from where he was fiddling with the chair to see if you were in danger.

“You okay?” He took one step towards you and that’s when he saw the little animal running across the room.

Tilting his head at the idea that you were afraid of that, he lifted a boot and raised it over the thing as it immediately paused and cowered in fear.

He was just about to step on it when you leaped to your feet with a gasp, running with your hands held out. “You can’t step on the little guy!”

“I was under the impression you were scared of it and didn’t want it here,” he deadpanned, but he stood there with his weapon of choice hovering right over the creature.

“He scared me, yes, but he’s a living thing even if he’s creepy. Your idea is to step on him anyway? I don’t wanna hear that crunch.” You scowled at the thought of it, looking around the room for an idea.

“Maybe he could sleep in the bed.” It was obvious by his tone that he was smiling beneath his helmet at his own joke, and all you did was glare at him before your gaze landed on the window.

“Let’s put him outside.” You walked over and pulled the curtains aside to see that no one was around, looking over the window before finding the handle to open it.

“By ‘let’s’, you mean I’m supposed to grab it and put it outside.”

“Yep.”

“It’s a good thing that I...forget it.” He grumbled, setting his boot back down on the floor to see that the animal was no longer there.

You immediately pressed against the wall in a failed attempt to climb up it in case it was running around on the floor, and Mando looked behind himself and under a shelf behind him.

A squeak made him look to the side, where he saw the thing squirming in the Child’s grip as he brought it towards his mouth. “No!”

He swept towards the kid like any father would when they saw their offspring misbehaving, bending over and pulling for a minute to make him release the creature, wagging his finger in his face to show him he’d done bad.

“How many times do I have to go over this with you? Not everything is food and if you’re hungry, you tell one of us and we’ll show you what you can eat.” He plucked the fabric that the critter dropped off the floor and let it take it back in its teeth, walking over to join you at the window.

“Don’t you ever feed that kid real food?” You joked despite being pressed against the wall and watching warily as if that thing would jump out of Mando’s hands.

“You’ve been partially in charge of him since I took you in.”

“Then I should go find him something to eat, huh?”

It was mostly an excuse to be away from the animal as you walked to the other side of the room and scooped the Child into your arms, setting him down on the bed where you looked through your pack.

Mando shook his head, guiding the creature through the opening of the window and watching it immediately scamper off like it knew where it was going; it probably only came into the basement in search of things it could use or eat, and now it was running home.

Probably to its family.

He turned away to watch you as you opened a packet of wafers for the kid to munch on, letting him sit in your lap and eat as you looked up at the man who was staring at you.

“Hey, Mando?”

“Yeah?”

“What happens if we need to use the ‘fresher to, like, pee?”

He looked around the room so he could point out a door that led to a refresher, but he realized that there wasn’t even any kind of receptacle in the room that you could use as a makeshift toilet for the time being. His helmet thunked back against the wall and he let out a loud, long groan.

Since the only light source in the basement was the window, the man whose home you were staying under came down before sunset to place a few charged up lamps that allowed you to not be in the pitch black dark.

Mando took off his cape and folded it so he could sit in the chair without the spring right on him, leaning against the back of the chair with his arms crossed over his chest, and you were putting the baby to sleep in the bed.

“—and the man took one of the stars from the sky and used it to always light his way so he wouldn’t fall into any more animal burrows.” You looked up at the plain, tan ceiling with a soft hum. “This would be much more interesting if we could see the stars. Don’t you think?”

There was no tiny babble in response and you looked to your side to see that the Child was fast asleep, and you smiled softly as you tucked the blanket around him a little more.

You looked over at Mando and assumed he was asleep, too, with the way his head was tilted back, so you slid out of bed and moved around the room to turn the lamps off.

Just as you were touching the button to turn off the one by the bed, you heard him ask, “Where did you hear that story?”

“My mother taught it to me when I was young...it was my favorite.” You liked the idea of staying up with him just to talk since that wasn’t something you usually did, deciding not to turn off the lamp as you sat on the bed facing his chair.

“Your favorite story is about someone who’s clumsy?” His tone was slightly teasing as if you were often clumsy when, really, you only tripped or walked into things sometimes.

“Shut up. Aren’t there stories from your childhood that you loved more than any others? One about a grumpy warrior with a green son and he walks around being mean?”

“I don’t remember them.”

There was something in the way he said it that made you not want to push him, like thinking of something like a story from when he was a kid was painful for him.

You laid back on the bed. “What if there’s more of those little animals running around here?”

“The kid can eat those ones.”

“Mando.” You were both scared that there would be more of the creatures and you also could tell that chair was not a fun place to sleep, and you weren’t going to let possible awkwardness make him stay there. “Will you come into the bed, please? Just in case there are some more?”

“I’m right here if you need something.”

“Please just come here.”

There was a moment of hesitation and then he slowly pushed himself out of the chair, walking around to the other side of the bed where he carefully sat down.

The Child was between you and Mando stayed sitting up with his back against the headboard, but it was a little awkward to be in the same space like that.

You were both silent for a bit and then you asked, “Would you like me to tell you a story to remember?”

You could almost hear his eye roll. “Go to sleep.”

“I hope they give up on us quickly if you’re gonna be grumpy the entire time we’re hiding out.”

“I am not grumpy.”

“Right, this is your normal self, we’re just not usually around each other for this long because you’re hunting bounties and I’m looking after the Child.”

“Would you like to sleep outside with rats?”

You let out a rather embarrassing snort of a laugh that you quieted so you wouldn’t wake up the kid sleeping next to you, and Mando tilted his head down to watch you with amusement.

He looked up at the ceiling as you continued to giggle to yourself, smiling just a little even when you’d stopped as he was a little prideful for making you laugh like that.

It was kind of nice to be in bed with you and not as terrifying as he thought it might be; you really were both adults and neither of you were going to do something to hurt the other.

Not that anything you could do to him in bed would offend him, but there would need to be a lot of discussion before you took that step in your relationship and he was pretty certain you wouldn’t want to do anything like that with him anyway.

“You can tell a story if you want,” he said nonchalantly, because even if he did tease you and even if being in bed with you made his mind wander to activities that wouldn’t be happening, he liked listening to you.

He looked down when you didn’t say anything to find you were fast asleep, one of your arms wrapped around the kid.

With a soft grunt, he leaned back a bit into the bed to sleep a little himself, thinking that it would be nice if the group that wanted the Child would stop searching for you quickly so you wouldn’t need to hide for long. Though he could admit that it was nice to enjoy a little break from bounty hunting and running even if it was to hide in a small room, under a stranger’s house, on a random planet that no one even really knew the name of so a group of criminals wouldn’t let the baby be hurt for a few credits.

Really, it was just nice to be in a quiet, normal place with the baby and you.

My Hilarious Yet Wrathful Overview Of Phase One: Thor, Redux

If your son who’s to become king requires a babysitter to not screw it all up and also the idea of him being king is stressful enough to put you into a coma, maybe, uh… reconsider doing that? Just a thought.

But you see here why Odin was so deadset on Thor becoming king, despite him being ill-suited for the role. It’s not about what’s best for Asgard; it’s about personal legacy. Thor is Odin’s mini me, and Loki is very much not. There are places within the text where Odin laments Thor “lacking his father’s wisdom” (he’s definitely inherited your humility, though, Odin!), but he hopes for Thor to grow into a “wise king” like himself. Whereas he holds no such illusions (lol, pun) that Loki will ever take after him.

now with tag commentary! #this scene is in the script and both novelizations #(though in reading this novel seems to just be a more complete version of the junior novel? #idk i'm confused because they're supposedly written by different authors but so far the text is identical) #and it drives me insane each time i read it

I know, I know. I try to cut Asgard some slack for being such a militaristic culture because social changes happen slowly and when you live for thousands of years per generation, it makes sense that your views on things like war would be regressive. The text says Odin has ruled Asgard for tens of thousands of years (so much for taking Loki’s “give or take 5,000 years” line literally; sure, the Odinsleep would have extended Odin’s lifespan, but by that much? Idk).

Still, fuck Odin. Especially since he’ll eventually try to shame Loki for doing the same thing he’s fucking boasting about here. And on a much smaller scale too.

…is it, though?

I actually think Loki’s relationship with being the centre of attention is really interesting in its complexity and we don’t discuss it enough. I’ve said this before, but he strikes me as the sort of person who craves attention but also wouldn’t really know what to do with it if he had it. He craves it as a result of neglect, because he’s never been shown recognition or validation. This is why he seems to revel in it in Stuttgart, even in (or maybe especially in?) his brainwashed state. But he also frequently comes across as pretty introverted and has horrible self-esteem, so I think on another level, sustained, genuine attention would make him feel kind of uncomfortable. Loki seems to believe that in order to be loved or respected, he has to literally be Thor, though. And Thor has always been the centre of attention, so for Loki, attention is synonymous with respect.

I find Loki’s relationship with wanting attention especially fascinating because I too both crave and fear it. As a borderline, I need it. When no one is paying attention to me, I lose my sense of identity. I feel as though I literally cease to exist. It’s excruciatingly painful. And yet, I have no authentic sense of self; I’m just a chameleon, and the closer people get to me, the more likely it is they’ll see behind my mask. They’ll realise it’s all a show and that I’m actually no one. And then they’ll leave. I can’t help wondering if that’s how Loki feels sometimes too.

This book was written before Ragnarok was a thing, so it may be unfair to connect the two, but it still seems worth noting that it was Thor who reduced Loki to being no more than a trickster to begin with. “You could be more,” my ass. Loki’s problem has never been that he was one-dimensional; it was always that the people in his life, including Thor, refused to see any other dimensions to him. Which makes those words particularly cruel—as if they aren’t cruel enough already, what with the physical torture and all. 

Always happy to have cause to point out that

Loki was on Thor clean-up duty their whole lives; he certainly was not trying to kill Thor.

People like to point to Loki’s attempted genocide of the Jötnar and attempted(-ish? lol) conquest of Earth as proof that he’s some kind of violent maniac. But in a little place I like to call reality, Loki was historically far less aggressive and bloodthirsty than his peers.

Question: why is one conqueror evil and the other is righteously entitled to ruling over the Nine Realms?

My heart breaks every time I remember that second excerpt because literally ALL OF IT happened to him when he survived falling through the wormhole. My poor boy. 😭

But also of note… Loki gets cold (and also does not like being cold). This interests me because 1) as many are aware, the prevalent headcanon that Loki has a low body temperature irritates me and 2) it possibly(?) lends weight to the theory that he may not be fully Jötun, whether by virtue of his birth or Odin’s spell.

Thirdly, how…? First, it was, “Loki arranged all this because he’s jealous of Thor.” Now they’ve suddenly jumped all the way to, “All of Asgard is in danger.” What exactly does Sif think Loki is planning? He’s gonna, what… assassinate Odin and then sell Asgard to the Jötnar?

Just so there’s no confusion: this one sentence explains everything Loki did for the rest of the movie. It explains how a person who has been historically non-aggressive suddenly transforms into a warmonger. To prove himself a real Asgardian, like his brother and father and grandfather.

…why did Odin fall into the Odinsleep in two completely different scenes in this book? I’m super confused.

Also, we really need to talk about how cruel it is of Marvel to keep forcing Loki to prove his loyalty again and again and again when he’s been doing so almost literally since we met him. And by “we need to talk about it”, I mean I need to tie Kevin Feige and co. to a chair and spend a minimum of five hours lecturing them on how poorly they understand their own fucking character.

Let’s just be clear here: they’re talking about Loki. They’re saying Loki, their LEGITIMATE king, is an enemy of Asgard, based on evidence so paper-thin it’s practically invisible. Just… please, let that sink in. Take a moment to appreciate how utterly fucked up that is. 

I’m sorry (not really), but Thor was so much funnier before Ragnarok.

This scene has always kind of bugged me. If Odin removed Thor’s powers, how come he can still control the weather? Confusing.

So what exactly was Thor’s plan anyway, before he realised he couldn’t lift Mjölnir? He was just gonna call on Heimdall to help him commit treason AGAIN, show up on Asgard against the expressed command of his king, and… Odin would just shrug and be like, “You got me, son! I guess I can’t keep you down. Welcome home!”?

…I mean, I guess that more or less is what happened in the end, but it’s hard to imagine it would have still gone down that way without all the stuff that happened with Loki. Idk.

Anyways, this is an important point that doesn’t get made often enough. People want to act like Loki illegally usurped the throne somehow, but even without the deleted scene that explicitly shows Frigga passing rulership to him (a scene which is, for some reason, entirely skipped over in this book, but whatever), understand this: Loki could not have controlled the Destroyer unless he was legitimately King of Asgard. The fact that he’s able to do so is irrefutable proof that his rulership is valid.

So… here’s my issue with this scene (and with Thor as a character): He always assumes that Loki’s acting out specifically to hurt him. That Loki’s entire life and thought process revolves around Thor. He does it in this scene, he does it in The Avengers… it’s just a chronic thing with Thor. Everything is viewed through the lens of Loki inexplicably hating him.

But that’s… just not accurate. Yes, Loki harbours a lot of jealousy towards Thor. But that’s not what’s happening in this scene. Loki is not trying to kill Thor here because he wants him dead; he’s doing it because Thor (and his friends) are getting in the way of Loki completing his ultimate goal. Loki tried to solve this problem non-violently, by lying about Odin being dead. It’s Thor’s friends who all but forced his hand by going behind his back and trying to bring Thor back to Asgard against Loki’s (and Odin’s!) direct orders.

For all the humility he’s learned in the past few days, this entire speech is still really all about Thor. About assuming that Loki’s doing this for personal reasons, because he holds a grudge against Thor for some unknown reason. This is implicit in his request to “take [my life] and end this.” It never even occurs to him that his friends are traitors to the Crown and Loki, as King of Asgard, is perhaps justified in pursuing them.

It also needs to be acknowledged that Thor’s apology here is hollow, even if it’s ultimately coming from his heart, because he has no idea what he’s apologising for. “Whatever I have done to wrong you” is not an apology. An apology addresses specific hurtful actions taken and commits to not repeating those mistakes in the future. Thor cannot commit to not repeating the hurtful things he’s done, because he doesn’t know what he’s done. Despite his best intentions, what Thor is doing here is actually kind of manipulative. He’s not addressing any substantive issue between the two of them; he’s just trying to talk Loki down. And it ultimately fails not because Loki doesn’t care or because he wants Thor dead, but because it doesn’t actually change anything.

Finally and only semi-relatedly, we should maybe at some point talk about the fact that Loki, who is stated to be a master tactician, has displayed a weird pattern of hardly ever being as lethal as he could be. He freezes Heimdall in place instead of killing him outright; he backhands Thor with the Destroyer instead of incinerating him; he, well… *gestures vaguely at almost the entirety of the first Avengers movie* Anytime the violence is even a little bit personal, he seems to hedge. Odd behaviour for somebody who’s supposedly super evil.

I’m sorry, I know I’ve pointed it out at least a hundred times before, but I just can’t encounter this scene in any form without taking a moment to appreciate how underrated and hilarious it is.

I also genuinely wonder how many Ragnarok stans who have accused me of having no sense of humour, have failed to laugh at moments like this one. Kinda feel like if you need to have the comedy spoonfed to you in the form of ass jokes, maybe you’re the one whose sense of humour is lacking. 🤷‍♀️

Let’s be super clear: this is not what happened. Loki did not betray Odin; he was betrayed by Odin. He did not open Asgard to its enemies; he attempted, misguidedly, to destroy Asgard’s enemies. And he most certainly did not commit suicide out of a sense of guilt.

I’m not saying Loki did nothing wrong, nor am I saying he feels no regret for the lives he has taken. What I’m saying is there’s no indication that he believes he betrayed Odin or Asgard in the process. Which makes perfect sense, because he didn’t. Everything he tried to do was for Odin and Asgard. It was misguided and horrible, yes, but it can hardly be classified as a betrayal.

The insurmountable burden on Loki is not that he did terrible things, but that no matter what he does or how hard he tries, Odin will never look at him with anything but contempt. Consider once more these passages from the very beginning of the book, at Thor’s coronation:

Consider that this book goes to great pains to point out that Odin favours Thor because Thor is a warrior like him. And yet even when Loki embraces that, even when he acts more war-like than ever before, Odin rejects him— just as he always has.

There is a reason why this moment is the last time Loki will ever call Odin his father. Because he realises once and for all that, no, nothing he tries will ever be good enough; no, Odin won’t ever look at him with pride. That is Loki’s burden. That is why he lets go.

The epilogue is really just two pages of making me want to vomit. 

There’s your party where Thor and a certain subset of the fandom insist that Loki was mourned. There’s barely an indication here that anyone even perceives his demise as a negative thing.

“[Sif] could see Frigga thought [Loki was dead] as well” also contradicts the tie-in comic for TDW, so I don’t know what the author is on about there. Unlike the majority of Marvel comics, the tie-in comics are canon to the MCU, so it’s a bizarre statement to make.

COULD YOU SMEAR THE DEAD* ABUSE VICTIM A LITTLE HARDER, PLEASE? Fucking hell.

No matter how many times I encounter this scene, in whatever format, I still fail to become desensitized to how disgusting it is. I realise there’s a good chance that whatever version of events Thor has been told was twisted at best; but how you can look at a man whose son has just committed suicide under any circumstances and say there will never be a better father than that guy, is utterly beyond my capacity to understand.

And Odin’s “you’ve already made me proud” line just feels like extra salt in the wound because, again, Loki let go because he realized Odin would never say those words to him. And yet they come so damn easily when it’s Thor.

Fuck this entire family so much. I think I hate them more than Loki does. Sometimes I wonder what he would think about that. How he would react to knowing that not only is he actually loved, but that he’s so loved that people are genuinely furious at the way he’s been mistreated. That there are people who regularly devolve into full-on rants because they just can’t contain how much anger they have towards the people who hurt him. I think he’d have a hard time wrapping his head around that concept, tbh.

Anyways, to end on a not-completely-depressing note, I’m still waiting for someone at Marvel to explain how Loki knew what Thor said in this scene after plummeting into a wormhole. ‘Cause he references this conversation as Fauxdin at the end of TDW. So like… ?? Did he steal Odin’s memories before he erased them? Because that would be… kind of neat, actually. And very clever. Not entirely ethical, of course, but it’s Odin, so fuck ethics.

peaceful dreams. you finally had peaceful dreams. well, sorta. you were having a dream about the second titan war -which wasn’t peaceful, believe me- but in the grand scheme of all demigod dreams, this was on the more relaxed side. you were currently fighting an empousa with your friend, rose , but just as you were about to stab it, the scenery had changed, and your older brother jake loomed over you.

"y/n." he shook your body. "y/n, wake up." you shielded your face with your arms and rolled over.

“what is it now?" you asked him.

"it's chiron. he wants you at the big house, says you're in big trouble. i think it has to do with the prank you pulled last week." you groaned. last week, while everyone had gone to the cookout and firework show, you had "rickified" every cabin, except for yours. every single cabin,building, and any place you could stick pictures, had been completely covered in pictures of rick astley. and while it wasn't your best prank, you had a very fun time watching everyone think they had found the last of the pictures, just to be met with more. needless to say, chiron was upset. wanting to get in further trouble, you hauled yourself out of bed and to your suitcase. you then grabbed an outfit and headed towards the bathroom to change.

inside the big house, you were met with two unfriendly faces. one belonged to your favorite centaur, chiron, and the other belonged to your least favorite person to exist, leo valdez. there actually wasn’t a good reason you disliked the guy. for gods’ sake, you barely knew him! at first you thought it was his face, but after thinking about it-though you would never verbally admit it-he was attractive. anyway, there you were, in front of chiron and leo.

“so,” chiron began. “both of you are here for chores. first you’ll be cleaning the stables, then you’ll be cleaning the armor and weapons, then you’ll be deep cleaning all the cabins while the other campers are out, and then you’ll be coming back here to clean the big house. i’ll be giving you the list in case you forget, and come back here if you have any questions throughout the day. understood?” you nodded. leo slightly adjusted his tool belt before opening his mouth to ask a question.

“we’re doing this all together?” chiron nodded.

“of course. i couldn’t imagine why you wouldn’t be.” he answered. then you piped up.

“could we split the list in half and work separately but still get everything done?”

“while that could work and i suppose i’d be pleased with the outcome, part of the punishment is working together. i’m not blind, you two. i know you dislike each other. and anyways, wouldn’t it take longer to do on your own?” leo and you stayed silent.

“well then, off you go, children. and leo, dear, before you go, your belt please.” chiron said.

“my what?” leo looked back at the centaur.

“your tool belt? hand it over.”

and so you went, to the stables and to the arena, to the cabins and back to the big house, cleaning and organizing everything without a word shared between you two. or rather, leo tried to make small talk, but you ignored him and moved away. finishing up, you put the mop back in the closet, before you dusted your shirt off and headed off to your cabin to freshen up for dinner. as you grabbed your comb off your nightstand, there was a knock at your door. assuming it was rose coming to walk you for dinner, you ran over with a smile on your face. opening the door, that smile immediately dropped.

“go away.” you said. and then you slammed the door on him. leo looked hurt, but he got over it, and he knocked again.

“just go away, leo, no one asked you to talk to me.”

“i’m not leaving.”

“please just go.”

“no, this isn’t up for debate. i’m staying.”

“what the fuck is your issue? what the fuck do you think you’re playing at?”
