#idk if this makes sense but I need to draw more dragons

Hi hi! How did you learn how to draw dragons? I wanna try it out but if I just use a reference of one, I end up copying the style too, making it look like a bad knock-off lol.

Hey firstly everything is derivative, but with dragons your really going to be making a lot of decisions based on aesthetic preference, and they may end up looking a bit like your faves. For example my dragons are definitely heavily inspired by the dragons on the covers of the Dragon Riders of Pern series and for the painting I’m working on right now I’m going to ref them. They were a heavy influence when I was a kid and still are now. In general they tend to be all curves and sinew, with classical “western dragon” anatomy and large jewel-like eyes and pointed snouts..

But even this extremely famous series there is a lot of variation that I can take various ideas from. Between covers and eras the physical featuers are aaaaall over the place. So if you’re trying to make something new and your own its good to grab multiple references and make something new influenced by all of them. 

These are so pretty I wish these books were more about the dragons and less about the human characters arguing politics all the damn time.

Dragons also mean different things to different cultures and famously can have any kind of features as long as you keep them semi-reptilian in either form or texture. Here’s two I’ve drawn in the last year. One is a my take on Jake Long, the other is just a random assortment of creature parts my followers generated on twitter.

The only thing these two have in common is I moooostly use a horse like head shape. Which as @iguanamouth demonstrates here is very much visually short hand for how audiences  think dragons look, albeit with a much wider grin.

Ultimately I  think dragons are the perfect place to use the doodle first, use refs later method. Do some doodling alone. Just drawing what you think is cool from your own head. Get creative with horns, eye ridges, crests but make it your own. 

Next take your drawing and do it again with the refs of how your favorite dragons look. Take inspiration from these for anatomy, and and inspiration from your drawing for your style and for ideas what other cool features you could tack on with the next try. Neat horns? Maybe different shaped eyes or a shorter or longer face?

I digress. But regardless its all just practice, and taking time to look at your work and try to figure out what parts you want different. Once you identify what you’d like to change set out with refs trying to achieve that. Case in point that dragon painting I’m working on right now is actually a redo of a picture a few years back.

I liked this acrylic painting at the time, but the dragon was one of the weaker parts, so I’m focusing on what I want to do  different using digital painting forgiving nature and plenty of refs on hand I’m trying some different things.

The part about him being Luffy’s parent I don’t really subscribe to, I just feel like he doesn’t need to have any ties with the revolutionary army? It doesn’t really add anything interesting to his character imo.

The timeline just invites too many contradictions imo, Crocodile starts living in Alabasta when he was 30, but then age wise Luffy would’ve been born when he was 27. When would he have fought whitebeard then?? He’s not a reckless person, I don’t think he would fight Whitebeard if he had a 3 year old to take care of.. If it was prior to Luffy, why did he join the RA later and then leave??? (and imo I personally think he fought Whitebeard soon after he became a warlord, maybe around 23-25, but a warlord joining the RA also makes zero sense) To me the Luffy parent part of the theory makes Crocodile’s characterization kind of messy, and we also don’t know enough about Dragon to predict whether or not he’s the type to have one night stands LOL

Maybe I’m being too nice in thinking that Crocodile won’t abandon a child immediately after they were born but I guess the whole Luffy parent thing just doesn’t fit with my vision of him haha, it feels more in character for him to have sought out Iva, transed his gender and went “ok we will never speak of this again” than have all this baggage with Dragon and the revolutionary army. Also I feel like if Luffy was Crocodile and Dragon’s kid then Iva definitely would’ve known.. but idk those are just my thoughts haha

I don’t hate the theory I mean I think the idea of Crocodile raising Luffy is a funny one and there’s been a lot of nice art that’s been inspired by it! But it’s just not something I think about often since the other half of the theory hinges on Dragon who is like a non-character to me.

also like we have confirmation from Oda what Crocodile's son would turn out to be if he ever raised a kid and this snotty brat is Not Luffy.

So if anything I just don't want to entertain the thought of Luffy turning out like that HAHAHA

Banging my head against the wall okay, so I haven't developed abyssal magic all that much since I'm not very good at that sort of thing. It's more of a vague concept atm, but what I did have in mind is that it was always much more violent and untamed than other forms of magic, and you often have to draw symbols (like in the owl house) to cast spells.

Then I thought to myself "well, it comes exclusively from the Abyss, and the Abyss itself is filled with death to the point where you're more likely to find a ghost than another person... so what if Abyssal magic thrived off death?"

And then I immediately thought about the Dragon Prince where the only way humans could cast magic was through either the magic orbs I forgot the names of OR by harnessing dark magic by killing living creatures.

"But if Silas wants to keep Finn away from death, why would he teach Finn abyssal magic?" Well you don't have to kill people to harness it. Silas could not care less if Finn killed a fish as long as no harm comes to Finn himself.

I'm just spitballing but sgjajffjajzf it would be interesting if stuff like bones and blood fuelled abyssal magic. While that technically isn't death, usually to get that sort of thing some form of death would have to take place. I can just picture for a small spell just crushing an insect or something and then casting the spell.

Ngl it would be kinda fucked up if you're duelling Finn or something and he just yanks his own tooth out (cause sharks frequently lose teeth and regrow them so it would be loose) or wipes blood from wherever he's been hit and uses it for a spell 😭😭😭

BUT PLS CONSIDER FINN NOT NEEDING TO USE ANYTHING BC HE'S LITERALLY TETHERED TO FIVE GHOSTS AND HE CAN DRAW FROM THEM AHFSTKTSJTJW. Idk if that actually makes any sense but it would be really funny if Silas decided to teach him a basic spell and just used a baby tooth for it but nope Finn doesn't need it 😭

HI HELLO JANE!!!!! sorry this took awhile to get around to answering i wrote all the text and told myself i was gonna draw pictures for these and then i got distracted because i wanted to draw. other pictures instead :,D BUT without further ado !!

face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them?

i don't trust my writing skills enough to write a description. their face:

i talked a little bit abt their facial features in this ask, but yeah, the Bee Stuff is definitely what people notice first. yarrow's modification was an experimental one, so while most people are kinda used to seeing humods with fur on their faces or weird ears or maybe horns and whatnot, invertebrate features are rare and jarring. this does cause issues when you're trying to be discreet, so yarrow tries their best to wear bandanas or masks. even pre-modification they actually wear something to the effect of a bandana or surgical mask often; partially because They Are A Doctor and also because they live in a mining town that doesn't give a shit about how much dust is kicked up from the open-pit mining

pre-modification i'm not sure what people would notice first; they have a few small defining features like their dimples, yellow-gold eyes, straight teeth, patchy facial hair, and mole on their right cheek, but overall nothing out of the ordinary. i think it's less features people notice, and a general impression of openess? he's quick to smile, talkative, and expressive, so people usually feel like they can approach him

motion: How does your OC move? How does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? Are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy?

having trained in martial arts for most of her life, serena's very coordinated and flexible! she also has a muscular stature and she can make herself very difficult to move if she doesn't want to. she's aware of her size and generally has a slouch to her posture and walks with a bit of a trudge and lope if that makes sense? she has enough control though to where she can move almost freakishly quiet and it scares people on occasion

ofc she doesn't wear clothes, but she does have her prosthesis!

she's got both an everyday and a sport prosthesis, so while her movement isn't necessarily affected by that, she's less willing to run or do anything intense if she just has her everyday prosthesis on (that's the one i draw, i need to look more into sport prostheses for humans and adapt a design from there)

bc she's a congenital amputee, the only real adjustment she's had to do irt her leg is adapting to a new prosthesis every few years, so she has a solid sense of moving with or without it on. i've been trying to determine if she has smthin like an adapted wheelchair as well, but since dragons are quadrupeds and she's only missing part of a limb, it may not be necessary when she also has her tail and wings to help counterbalance during movement...? there's also the factor that she doesn't have a lot of money, so regardless of what she has to assist her, it's not always top-quality and she's learned to live with a certain level of discomfort and pain

speaking of wings, flying is something dragons can do, but it's a lot like running where most ppl can't do it for longer periods of time unless they train. it's not as necessary in modern society, so most dragons can fly for short bursts if needed/for fun. with the exception of a few who do things like, idk fly to work, most rely on transit bc it's easier. serena's ability to fly is Okay, she's accumulated some damage to her wings over the years (side effect of martial arts where other people have claws and horns), which makes her less aerodynamic and more easily tired out. she's got a good handle on her body and how it moves, so she's actually pretty graceful in the air and not aware of that fact at all. overall, she prefers not to fly, but still maintains a healthy habit of working out those muscles so they don't atrophy, which is a thing that happens with modern dragons.

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?

saying wrench is grimm's favorite accessory is actually a stretch bc it loathes wearing it, but adores wrench as a companion but if we are purely talking abt clothing here, grimm's not the sentimental sort, so it doesn't hold on to things once they're to worn nor does it worry about wearing things out. which is the boring answer

wrench is only worn as armor a handful of times in-story and in dire circumstances (that i. have not quite figured out yet <3). grimm fucking hates wearing it, hates the way it takes them back to their past, hates the way it doesn't quite fit their body anymore and hurts if they wear it too long, hates why they even have to wear it, but it's protection and a weapon in one, and they don't have many options.

i talked abt wrench a little bit when you asked abt it here, but wrench is both an artifact of grimm's past and a dear friend. as an animal companion/robot grimm does maintain wrench to an extent and it's a good dog that doesn't age like normal animals, they have a close pet/owner bond. when it comes to "wearing" it, transforming (so to speak) doesn't cause any wear and tear on wrench itself, since that is one of the purposes it was built for, but the situations in which grimm would don wrench may result in damage and there's also an element of wanting to keep wrench safe. aside from being armor, wrench can also do stuff like jam signals for short periods of time and sense heat signatures, so it does have an interest in preserving wrench for its own work and safety as well, but it's also a pet, yknow?

post-story i'm p sure grimm and yarrow would get something equivalent to married. yarrow's the romantic and the one to suggest it ofc, but grimm's like "hell, if i'm going to symbolically tie their life to someone else's it wouldn't be anyone but yarrow" and whatever sort of wedding band/necklace/wearable symbol they choose would become grimm's favorite, esp since it represents a version of themself they like being

despite having drawn a lot of stuff in the past several years I have maybe one print of my art - and that's the like sweet ass metal print I made of Cazan and got off of redbubble (I'm sure there was a better way to do that but I already have an account/store so)

Well basically ever since visiting people who have their art on their walls... I realized "No I need to put some more works of mine on my walls"

Like dude I have a Greta Van Fleet poster, a Halestorm poster, the Cazan print is like propped up against the wall somewhere, a map of Lake Champlain, a cool ass dragon drawing from a friend of mine, and a couple of prints of birds from Etsy. I have basically nothing of mine up and idk I feel like that's kinda sad? Not like in a "I'm pathetic" sense but more like "I need to take more pride in my own work" kind of way.

So I went to Red River Paper, bought a sample pack, and I have both HP and Epson inkjet printers so I can see which one I prefer (I didn't buy either of them I got the HP as a gift from my mom and my coworker got a new printer so he just gave his old inkjet to me).

This is a long way of saying: I'm going to start making prints of my digital art so I can post them up on my walls. Don't think I'll sell them or anything but maybe one day I'll give some away to people who want them. I guess one day there could be The Shattering merch but eh?

This is partially informed by a desire to have interesting characters as dragons but also wanting to keep some interesting characters as still human, the underlying metaphor of monstrous draconic avarice as linked to greed and plundering but also some humans should also just be like that, and also vibes and who would be funnier as a dragon

Anyone can write fic or be inspired or steal my ideas or write stuff based on anyone being a dragon idk I’m just addicted to worldbuilding I need to finish a few other projects before thinking about if I want to write a proper fic or drawing for this, might post snippets if they emerge into my mind though

The legend of St Martha taming the tarasque

is slightly different in this world - after the tarasque is tamed, it is not killed by the people with spears. The same is with St George and the Dragon, where the dragon is tamed and not killed as a demonstration of Christianity's might.

I'm not going to go as far as to say Jesus was a dragon, but from chatting to Impulse and thinking about it, and also that I turned a bunch of military nobility into dragons

In this world there's a cultural Thing around the idea of an ingenue* woman - or man sometimes - being known as a "dragon-wife", a representative and rider, tamer of the monstrous beast, offered to sate the dragon's greed

This overlaps with the idea of a dragon's "favoured person", a person they grow so close to that the dragon-stupour that they fall into when exhausted is lessened and shortened by the presence of that person, and also there might be something about a dragon being able to telepathically talk to them over larger distances, being able to share emotions and senses

People know that the dragon-wife/dragon-rider is not necessarily a dragon's bonded/favored person, but it's better if they are. It's a very political thing for dragons with high titles and high ranks, to be accompanied by a charming maiden.

But of course, these maidens often aren't allowed to have any power or prowess! Though some do carve it out, and some by virtue of having a giant reptilian beast on their side do end up in interesting and exciting places.

Think of it like a beauty and a beast thing.

also i would like to have more dragons who identify as ladies, dragons do not have physical sex in this setting but they do identify as gender - i doubt explicitly nonbinary dragons will be popping up for a while though and the focus of this is the land with the very gendered language so they just default to unfortunate il

This is gonna be just the most basic rundown of all of them cause there's many and if I went in detail about them we'd be here forever

Alkali Ashford

Alkali was my first x men OC. Her ability is turning into dinosaurs. In her regular form, she has stripes and a tail, so she needs one of the camouflage watch things. She's besties with Kurt, but her arc is sort of opposite to his in the sense that while he wants to fit in and hide who he is, she wants to stand out and let the world know who she is. She's very fun I love her. Also fun fact this is the character that got me in trouble in that one rp server I mentioned a few nights ago, where they yelled at me because they decided shapeshifters aren't allowed only after I submitted her. They hate her because she's too swag for them to handle

Milo

This guy and the next character are basically recycled versions of ooold old OCs of mine. Milo has two water serpent things that he can control. He starts out kinda scared of them because, unlucky for him he has a fear of water due to almost drowning as a child. But overtime he learns to appreciate them

Marigold

Other aforementioned old recycled OC. Her mutation is physical in the sense that she has cat ears and angel wings, so she also needs a camouflage watch. However unlike Kurt and Alkali, she never really faced a lot of discrimination growing up because her mutation is considered beautiful by most (There's lots of angel devil comparisons with Marigold and Kurt it's so fun it's so fun). She's known Milo since they were kids because she is the one who saved him from drowning. They're dating now. Ew romance

Peter Maximoff

"Peg that's not an OC" yeah so I made an Evo version of Peter because I was STUPIDLY obsessed with this man in like 2021 idk what was wrong with me. Anyway he's the twins' half brother and I have yet to figure out what happened between Erik and his mom. He has a really dumb rivalry with Pietro its so funny

Ezekiel

Or Zeke for short. His thing is seeing and talking to ghosts. Lance recruits him to the Brotherhood for all of two seconds before Zeke befriends Kurt and jumps over to the X Men instead. He also dates Kurt later so i can live in my RogueKitty delusions but shhh

Indigo

These next few are part of the new mutant squad. Indigo's power is bringing drawings to life and she has a fun sibling relationship with Peter. They're also a little bit Too wiling to commit murder

Niko

Also a recycled old OC. He has a snake that sticks out of his back. Not much more to him yet, he just has a snake

Cool guy who turns into a fish person when in the water. May or may not have been inspired by Luca. Also for anyone who knows my habit of making Harry Osborn inspired OCs and naming them Ozzi. This guy is not one of the Harry clones, he came way before the raimi fixation attacked me and dragged me to hell

Markus Lang

Member of the X Men and one of the mentors alongside Ororo and Logan. He can turn into a dragon. He might end up dating Logan idk I think they'd be silly together

Gwen Ashford

Alkali's adopted younger sister who has rock powers. She's part of The Brotherhood and she is an absolute menace to society

Wyatt Elsher

This guy is able to turn into like a goop furry thing and I'm being so honest to god I based him off the fucking Transfur Outbreak game on roblox. Embarrassing. Anyway he was childhood friends with Marigold and lived in her old neighborhood, and I imagine initially his mutation was just becoming some sort of werewolf thing. Then he got sent to this lab place that claimed they'd 'cure' him but ended up fucking him up. So now he's goop. He also joins the Brotherhood and has a rivalry with Marigold

Harper

Regular ass human girl who Alkali meets at a party and falls head over heels in love with her. She also sort of adopts Kurt into her friend group after the mutants get exposed, seeing he's alone now and wanting to help him. She does guess he's also a mutant, but she's fine with it

Thats all of em!! It's entirely possible I'll make more soon, but this is who I got right now. I also have like the crumbs of a fic for these guys on wattpad but it has like one chapter that was written in 2021 and also features very shitty old art. If yall want it though I'll link it. I do plan on working on it again eventually

iiiiif u don’t mind me asking, I’m super curious about Synne’s thoughts during the Legend of Ansur questline. how did she feel about its conclusion and Ansur's fate? (I know Roan was *so* excited but afterwards he’d rate the experience as worse than being tadpoled)

idm you asking at all!! actually loved the legend of ansur quest and I was SO SAD when there was no unique kind of dialogue or anything for dragon sorcs there.

So naturally I thought of scenes for myself :) because there should have been :) (and idk if there was any dialogue for a dragonborne)

Definitely Synne was excited when it came to finding out that there was bound to be an ancient, or at least older, dragon underneath Baldur's Gate. At best she was hoping she would be able to connect with and maybe learn something from the dragon, or find some kind of connection should it have been a silver dragon in some way.

Finding ansur's body was a gut punch initially, like so devastating finding him long dead -- not only is the mission a failure but her own personal expectations shot.

BUT THEN SHE GETS POSSESSED.

At that point, my pershunal HC goes v different than how the quest really goes.

I take the kind of influence of this ancient dragon in the dragon sorc's bloodline to be an influence and drawing upon the spirit of that ancient dragon (or perhaps it's still alive in some way and gives its power in the way an archfey or other like demi-god like being does). Either way there is ALREADY A DRAGON IN THERE, THERE'S NO ROOM FOR ANOTHER.

So in that moment, before it can go too far into the reveal of Balduran and Ansur, Synne's dragon ancestor steps in, in a violent, explosive way.

As genial and benevolent as Silver dragons tend to be, I imagine that there also comes a time when someone can simply be too old, or too powerful, to truly grasp what it means to be empathetic and compassionate in a way that is fully effective. So while I believe this Ancient Dragon/Wyrm/Great Wyrm (I'm leaning toward Wyrm or Great Wyrm just because this is an elven lineage) had Synne's best intentions at heart, the choice to force Ansur out of her mind/body by occupying the whole of her consciousness, power, and mind was perhaps not the best option.

Essentially the control Synne has worked so long on, pales in comparison to the full force of her ancestor's power taking direct and pointed control of her, and she -- and her power -- snaps.

The fight is then part dealing with Ansur's undead form, but now there's the chaotic might of the spirit of Synne's ancestor there fighting directly against the threat that came to it's progeny.

And Synne, completely lost to the dragon's influence, and now more an avatar of this ancient being's power, has lost control AND MAYBE SHE TURNS INTO AN ADULT DRAGON HERSELF. WHY NOT? Polymorph is a spell that directly influences a change on the physical form, and with Synne having dragon blood within her, it makes sense to me that the chaotic and force of this dragon's influence triggers an awakening in her blood that not only puts her in sync with her ancestor BUT changes her with that magic, into a "purer" form of her draconic ancestry.

(And she's prob just under 200 so that means it's an Adult dragon according to 5e)

So now the rest of the party is dealing with an undead like ancient dragon, a spirit of a wyrm, and a completely off the chain adult silver dragon in Synne.

(And during the fight she either has some vague awareness of what's going on, or is in a different mental plane of existence, speaking to her ancestor directly)

After the fight, and with the influence no longer needed (nor able to be received one moment longer for threat of potentially killing Synne) she reverts back and is OUT.

It's a humbling moment to realize that for all her control it still means nothing when faced the true reality of what her power entails/where it comes from. But still, she mourns how it could not have been a nicer meeting of Ansur himself, conflicted at the back and forth between Balduran and Ansur, and rage/shame of being used like she was by Ansur and her ancestor.

Ed, Edd, n' Eddy as Furries

Another "I don't know who needs to see this" situation, just a list of animals I attributed to the EdEddEddy characters when rewatching the series with my partner. I've had it on a notepad for the longest and as I clean out some of my tabs today I figured I'll throw it up here instead and let tumblr do with it what it do, or not. Idk/c Ed is a Badger of some kind. They strong, stocky, and stinky. At least from my 2 seconds of research, that's Ed to a D. I also thought Bear because of how incredibly strong he is, and I guess stinky doesn't have to be an inherent trait, but, eh~

Edd is a Otter because... uhh. Dang, I dun forgot. I guess cause they're clever? But also kind of adorable and loyal. Yeah, that makes sense.

Eddy is a Stoat/Weasel because come on, look at him. He just is.

Kevin is a Dog (unspecific) is literally how I wrote it down. I guess he kinda defends the cul-de-sac from the Eds' scams, so maybe one that is typical good at defending people. But he's also a dick for no reason at times, so, chihuahua mix haha.

Nazz is a Wolf cus she cool and outdoorsy. She doesn't really have a character? So it's also haha, Wolves generic Furries blah blah idk. Wolf.

Sarah is a Cheetah and not the same as Ed because christ she's a menace. And also they play a big cat noise whenever she's going into feral brat mode so it'd be diegetic haha.

Jimmy is a Bunny because he's soft, whimpy, his fluffy hair, and it makes it all the more funny that Sarah keeps him so close or when he outscams Eddy.

Johnny is a Beaver Literally watch any scene with this boy.

Plank is a Wood why did i write this in my notes. this isn't funny.

Rolf is a Goat because he just *sounds* like a goat. Just as powerful and temperamental as one too.

Lee Kanker is a Fox. Orange hair, orange fur. I can see the mess of hair translating to an equally curly messy tail. Also they're natural predators to Weasels soooo.

Marie Kanker is a Shark cus cool and edgy and *checks google* Okay so sharks aren't exactly predators to Otters, they will mistake them for Seals but won't consume them on purpose. That being said, their bites can be lethal regardless, so whatever.

May Kanker is a Komodo Dragon because I don't remember. I guess cus they're strong and intimidating but they don't even live near badgers so I guess it's just to keep the cool/predator factor going for the sisters.

Anyway that's that. Make fan art of it, idk. I thought about drawing it up but I don't have the desire anymore. :0

Last Song: If the song in the background of a video I just watched counts, then it was "Ain't That A Shame" by Fats Domino. But I wasn't watching it for the song, so I don't think it really counts. Last song I listened to on Spotify was "Death by Glamour".

Currently Watching: The Dragon Prince Season 5. One of the rare Netflix shows to get more than 3 seasons. Kinda surprised I don't see more people talking about it here. It's made by Aaron Ehasz, head writer for A:TLA, and it definitely has a lot in common with it: elemental magic system, similar sense of humor, Jack DeSena (Sokka) as a main character, etc.. Plus, it has dragons (in case that wasn't obvious from the title).

Trying to think if there's some other show I'm currently watching, but nothing's coming to mind. But I might finally get into MP100 soon (something I've been telling myself for probably a couple of years now lol).

I think the last movie I watched was Nimona. Highly recommend that one.

Currently Reading: Oh, gosh, I really need to start reading books again so I can stop being embarrassed every time someone asks me something like this. Been meaning to get into The Locked Tomb series on the recommendation of @prodigaldaughteralice (this also counts as me inviting you to do this, if you want), so let's go with that? But that's kinda in the same sense that I've been meaning to watch MP100. It might happen, but the stars must align the right way first.

Current Obsession: Also my OCs. I had this idea back in 2020 for a video game based on the idea of the hero's journey, and then I kinda shelved it until a couple months ago, and now it's basically the main thing I do with my free time. Except now it's probably going to be a multimedia webcomic instead of a video game? Idk, I'm trying to figure out the plot first.

It was never really going to be a video game anyway. I just wanted to use it as inspiration for my music, like a concept album. But now I'm getting back into drawing (I have the opposite problem as @headlesscribler: I've always been more of a writer than an artist), and I've also been learning QGIS so I can make overly detailed maps of my silly little fantasy world. But I'm eternally grateful to @lunathrix for helping me out with this, both with the art and catching the many plot holes I tend to introduce by forgetting what I've already written. (This is also an invitation for you to do this, but again, only if you want.)

yes, i made her in a dress up game...and yes i could just draw her because i draw...but...ehhhh. maybe later

anyway she's still nameless, however i've been calling her and dagur's son ozzy (short for oswald - because before they were separated, dagur told her the truth about his father)

she's extremely different from dagur in pretty much every possible way - she's quiet, practical, and very conflict avoidant (although she has a sharp tongue and will rip someone a new one if she's in the mood). she's very interested in folklore, culture, trade, and history. the combination of her personality and interests make her a great diplomat, which the beserkers sorely needed when pre-redemption dagur was their leader (no, she was not there to smooth things over with berk...uh...listen...my inner fanfic ideas dont need to make sense ok. idk she was doing something else)

i also think she'd get along great with good guy johann and unironically want to listen to all of his stories

she initially couldn't stand dagur when they first got married but over time he grew on her (because he's super affectionate) - but this made her feel guilty because of how poorly he treated everyone else, which only made her feel more resentment about her feelings

i think she would get along especially well with hiccup and fishlegs (based on interests) and heather (because they both know what its like to be on the run and have mixed feelings about dagur)

i dont see her riding a dragon, at least not in any kind of combative way - but i do think she's absolutely in love with terrible terrors

I had been meaning to draw him as a dragon months before I got this ask and this was the thing that finally got me to do it thank you anon

Anyways. The guy (with a little planning doodle on the side I forgot to erase)

Now to explain my process for the design here, because I'm insane.

Let's start with the hair. Joseph's hair can't really be translated into spines on a back that well. Hair doesn't really translate that well at all. So I opted to lessen the "spikes" to 1, instead of the usual 3. The spines are also all joined instead of separate like I usually do them, to try keep the feel of soft and flowy hair. Also, because I am insane, I decided to make sure this design was reminiscent of. Crash Bandicoot. Yeah I've seen people joke about how similar human Joseph and Crash are so to help keep dragonseph fitting I also used Crash as a reference. This makes sense to me. Understand.

He's a classic European dragon (2 wings, 4 legs) for many reasons. You'd think I'd go with a wyvern bc of flying, but. The limb loss. I have no idea how the loss of a wing via severing would work. Nothing to go off of for it. "Oh but Nibwhip it's just a single drawing" I have thought about this world in great detail and will likely draw more in the future. I'm planning accordingly. I also think it just fits him bc. European (British. I think being British counts as being European? Idk), as well as the limbs. He can run much better than a wyvern can you know?

Horns. First of all I've been thinking about the Pillar Men here and designing Joseph accordingly. This sounds odd but. Humans and Pillar Men are different species, different physical characteristics. Same must apply for dragons here, except more visible bc I didn't like too much how the Pillar Men were in canon (too human). I've already confirmed in my mind palace that the Pillar Men (...Pillar Dragons? Yeah let's go with that) will have front facing horns, for many reasons I will elaborate on in a separate, later post. So, normal dragons will always have horns facing the other way (maybe other ways too. But mostly pointing back like that). I've also made em big and fat here to make em look solid. I didn't want to draw him as buff as humanseph, but I still needed to get across that feeling of strength. So boom. Get these chunky horns on your head dude

Now. Colours. Probably were expecting like. Green and yellow/purple for this, right? Those are colours he wears, not just...his hair colour. I went with the brown anyways, not just for the hair colour though. Back to strength. Brown's a nice earthy colour. Quite solid. I don't know enough about colour theory here but. I can ASSURE you that if I had done this in green or purple he would've felt a lot scrawnier. Brown's also a warm, welcoming colour. If that makes sense. Makes sure he still feels friendly and good despite the design change and all the things I did to make him look strong. Also with vibrant colours like green and purple it's harder to make a hypothetical oldseph version of this design. But here the brown also works it's an "old" colour. You know. Like a worn leathered cover to a book or smth. The brown works I assure you.

I also gave him "eyebrows" bc a Joseph without thick as hell eyebrows isn't a Joseph to me. Very defining part of his design tbh I HAD to get it in there.

Watcher's Clutch AU - basic info

Soooooo... this is a mcyt X httyd crossover AU! (it's the 3rd of my mcytXhttyd AUs lol, more on those later)

It's vaguely inspired by the fanfics The Orphan's Ballade and The Hermit's Refuge, which are fanfics for the dsmp and hermitcraft fandoms respectively and feature one character adopting all the others. So uh, yeah. The basic idea is from those, go check them out they're fun to read.

In this AU, it's mostly about the Watchers/Listeners (and a few others), as they get adopted by a stray Watcher who is the protector of children. It all starts when a kid winds up on her doorstep at night, covered in blood (some of it not his own), and begging to be killed. That night, the Watcher takes him in, and slowly starts to draw more kids into the mix.

Under the cut is the details about who are the stray children adopted, and what dragon hybrid they are! I won't go into backstory details because I actually want to write this soon. With in two months at least. Maybe. Don't hold me to it.

Grian - sentinel If you don't know what sentinel dragons are, you probably won't understand why this works so well. It's because sentinels in httyd exist to watch over a dragon graveyard. What better dragon for Grian? On top of that, this adds an interesting idea, because sentinels are blind. So hybrids would probably be born with vision problems or develop them during childhood. So the idea that Grian, even as a teenager, still has relatively good eyesight despite being a species that would've lost it at that point is rather interesting!

Etho - whispering death/sand wraith Weirdly fucked up mouth. That's my main reasoning. Try to put a whispering death mouth on a human. It would looked really fucked up. Idk I almost went with changewing but figured whispering death was a better choice for a hybrid. No I will not explain why he's a hybrid of two dragons <3

Exion (Evil Xisuma) - night fury This one will make zero sense unless you've read my helsmit headcanons post so I'll sum up why I chose this: I headcanon Ex and X to be two of the last voidwalkers, similar to night furies in httyd. Main reasoning tbh.

Helsknight - singetail Arson chameleon.

Skizz - triple stryke Skizz gets the cool scorpion dragon. Also because the only triple stryke we see in canon gives off 3rd Life!Skizz vibes. No I will not explain Sluther could be Skizz and nothing would change.

Chicken - thornridge This one will also not make sense unless you've read the helsmit heacanons post (also included in this category are Echo, 13, Adubs & Grain) But basically Chicken is one of the most peaceful helsmits, and I though he'd fit a thornridge!

Adubs - prickleboggle Funky dragon that casts healing fireballs. Idk I just wanted something vaguely plant themed for this guy.

Grain - dramillion Parrot dragon parrot dragon parrot dragon- Basically the dramillion can mimic any blast it sees, and I thought that it would be cool if hybrids could also mimic voices!

BigB - speed stinger Don't blink or he will zip past you can suddenly you can't move. I like the raptor dragons alright :) He could also be a dreadstrider, which is a hybrid between a speed stinger and a flightmare, but I like basic speed stinger for now!

Echoslab - egg biter Honestly it is simply the vibes

Martyn - slithersong Listen, this dragon lures it prey in by singing. And Martyn is widely regarded as a Listener in headcanons. It's perfect.

Jimmy - razorwhip A) Jimmy is a toy would work great with the dragon that looks like it's made of metal B) Jimmy can have poisonous tears and breath for fun :)

Scott - snow wraith I am channeling Empires season 1 for this. Es1!Scott is so snow wraith coded.

Bad - flightmare Idk he's Scar's counterpart and sibling. Don't know what else you need

Anyways, those are the main children, with others appearing in cameos or backgrounds. Pearl, Joe, and Keralis have all been excluded from this group despite being Watchers (in my headcanons at least), due to possibly having different roles in this AU.

Stranger Things fic:

nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone - I actually have most of chapter 5 written and know how the chapter will end. I'm just stuck on the scene where Max goes over to Dustin's house. I'm still not sure how close to canon I want to play it. One day I'll rewatch Stranger Things and get back to this, but I think I need to practice writing mystery and action some more so I can really do justice to bringing my plans for this fic to life

The Dragon's Bride - So in the covid brain fog I forgot where this fic was going last year. I wasn't keeping detailed notes about it so I'm just kind of trying to recreate what I want to do with this before I post anything. I have been working on the second chapter though. Overall I want it to have soft Ghibli film romance vibes

JJBA fic:

Houses of the Holy - The orphanage chapter is so hard to write. Why did I think writing out Caesar's whole life story was a good idea??? He doesn't even meet Lisa Lisa until chapter 3! Making up backstory from scratch is haaaaard. My hubris knows no bounds.

had to fall in love - ah band au my beloved. I fucked up the timeline and haven't felt like fixing it yet. I might just pretend I meant to do that all along and just keep writing. Then I could fix all the dates and ages at the end. This fic is a hot mess but It's fun.

Wonders Never Cease - this sci fi au is even more of a hot mess. God I'm a disaster. Don't look at me.

Unpublished WIPs/ideas (also JJBA):

Hotel CA - Caejose pwp set in a world where vampires have overrun the world. Caesar is the leader of a little group of humans taking shelter in an old hotel with a crumbling sign. Joseph sneaks in to Caesar's suite disguised as a woman in the hopes of seducing Caesar into a false sense of security before he reveals his identity. Of course Caesar knows it's him immediately and is curious to see how far Joseph is willing to take his ruse.

Bring 'Em Back Alive - a post-PHF five-years-later fix it endgame Fugiomis fic where Fugo and Mista team up on a murder mystery mission in a Passione-run nightclub where the ghosts of their shared past are disturbed and they fall in love with each other. I'm having trouble juggling the OCs for this one. I think I have to write a more immediate post-PHF fic to establish the villains' motivation better. The playlist is already up on my fandom Spotify though I may change some of the songs around.

i wanna be a slut - this one is named after a Pansy Divison song. It's basically just modern no stands au poly!mista fic where not all Bucci gang is dating each other but Mista ends up either dating or friends with benefits with all of them. Not much angst just Mista gets to be happy and carefree and have a lot of love in his life.

idk what to call it yet I've been calling it figure drawing au or michelangelo nudes - Modern au, no stands. After Mista gets fired from his latest job because his manager hates him, Fugo offers to pay him in cash if he agrees to model for a project Fugo is working on. It's all so Pretty Woman that Mista kinda can't help but fall for Fugo, who is gorgeous and sensitive and brilliant, but Fugo is such a sad lil rich boy he can't imagine Mista wants him for anything more than his money. Mista's just so handsome and so good at living in the moment defying expectations to do whatever the fuck he wants; he's everything Fugo wishes he could be. I just want to write the Fumis romcom of my dreams where Fugo is a PhD student and polymath good at different forms of art and science and Mista's a himbo. I deserve this.

another college au draft where Mista and Narancia are roommates who don't realize they're pretty much dating. Giorno invites all his friends to a house party at his mudad's house. Narancia gets drunk and finally makes a move on Fugo, who gets offended Nara seems to be trying to cheat on Mista with him. Idk this one might never see the light of day tbh but you know I love the Torture Dance Trio so maybe

Phantasmagoria - Fugio gothic horror au where Fugo's parents give him to Dio for mentorship and Fugo quickly learns Dio doesn't actually practice law all that much and his house is fucked up. He meets a cute boy he only ever sees wandering the halls at night

Uh the draft is called Gothic Horror Pillar Men in my drafts but it's more of a bodice ripper type story. It's about Joseph being locked in his grandma's estate awaiting his upcoming marriage and interacting with the strange men who prowl the courtyard looking for something at night. Not sure if I'll ever finish this one but idk. The wedding rings play into it a lot but they're not poison in this au or like inserted into Joseph's body.
